School: evocation
Level: Cleric 1, Sor/Wiz 1
Components: V, S, M/DF
Casting time: 1 standard action
Range: touch
Area: up to 5 cubic feet (shape may vary) or up to 3 lb material per caster level.
Duration: 24 hrs
Saving throw: none
Spell Resistance: Yes

This spell will cool up to 3lb material (example, 1 lb clothes or meat) or an area up to 5 cubic feet depending on caster level and version of spell used. The shape of the area is determined when casting the spell. If the spell is to cool or heat an area it must be cast upon an item and radiate out from there, the item can be as small as a piece of jewelry or a section of a wall. If the spell is cast and the item moves the area of coolness or heat moves with it.

The degree of temperature is determined by the caster when casting the spell. Comfortable (between 60 & 80 degrees fahrenheit) This will heat the entire area or amount of material allowed by caster level. Chilly (down to 40 degrees) or hot (up to 100 degrees), will heat up to half the standard area. Cold (down to 30 degrees) or very hot (up to 250 degrees, this will heat up to one-fourth of the standard area. Icy (down to -30 degrees) or Roasting (up to 350 degrees) this will heat up to one-eighth of the standard area.

This spell can not be targeted on any living thing. The caster can cancel the spell at any time before it expires. Component: a few drops of water sprayed from fingers to cool things to a pinch of wall to heat things

Examples:

  • A level 1 human male casts the spell as comfortable, he is 6 ft. 6 in. tall, so he sets the area to be 4 ft. by 4 ft. by 7 ft. (4*4*7=112) tall, this is a smaller volume than a 5 ft. cube would be (5*5*5=125), yet he will remain comfortable all day. He casts the spell on a ring centered on his belt buckle.
  • The spell is cast by a level 1 cleric to keep his food cold as it is a very hot day. She casts it to fill the inside of a box that is 4 ft. by 4 ft. by 3 ft. (4*4*3=48); this is less valume than the cube would be (5*5*5/2=62.5)
