The Scab is a grotesque ugly range of mountains that separates the Elennian Peninsula from the mainland of the continent. The was complicated by the 4th cataclysm which caused the Scab to rise with volcanic activity. The range has been impassable since that time. Before the 4th cataclysm, the range was passable on the southern coast of Dragon Bay, but considered extremely dangerous. The Scab also expanded west and south to Culverwood giving the Scab the magical entrapment properties of that ancient forest. It is rumored that The Teucri had a mystical passageway under the Scab before the 4th Cataclysm. Of course, the mountain dwarves who populate the western face of the Scab claim to have tunnels that come out on the eastern slopes. They believe, though, that to see the cateclysm lands is to lay a terrible curse of death upon their tribe.
The Scab is populated with dwarves, giantkind, and other assorted tribes. The difficulty of survival in The Scab seems to require the cooperation of groups and tribes. The dwarves are the only groups that have been able to obtain some measure of civilization. However, more and more of the dwarves migrate to the plateaus either in search of the civilization that their tribe has lost or claiming that their gods have forsaken them.
Needless to say, those who would venture into The Scab are risking their lives if not their souls. Those who would see the other side are no better than the cow who sees the greener grass on the other side of the fence only to die of poison weed.
