Armand isn't far off. The Sarr has cranked it up to 11. OOC: You are back to full spells along with the bonus spell

Atlas comes up with a very basic battle plan: hold the line. He moves 40 ft or so towards the halfling group (that are still around a quarter mile away.

Mack goes with a diplomatic approach. If the Sarr can hear it he doesn't acknowledge it.

Owen waits to see what will happen. He's a little concerned so prepares to cast a Haste spell just in case.

Ely beefs up her protection and stands alongside Khan.

Osul isn't taking chances. The Sarr may be hostile - or maybe not - but those standing around may be just as vicious.

Neshi makes himself very big. Huge in fact. A huge taur will certainly be helpful should there be a fight.

Sarr continues to grow as the last of the bloodweed is drawn to him. He is immense. Probably 400 feet tall, and over 100 feet wide.

With one more anguished "NOOOOO!" the Bloodweed Sarr creature flings out its arms. Quite literally hundreds of creatures of all kinds and sizes erupt from the massive form. Many seem to have been tainted by the Bloodweed. All of the creatures are moving as fast as they can toward the perimeter of the circle--running, flying, burrowing toward the adventurers.

Toward you.

They have to cover quite a distance--some 2,000 feet or thereabouts. It will likely take some time.

Unless, of course, some of them can teleport.

Owen's haste spell triggers giving everyone a bit of a boost.

He then cast Shield of Faith on himself: +3 to AC 80 rounds.

He calls out again, "I have 1 more shield of faith I can cast, you can't be using an actual shield though to gain it's protection bonus. Anyone or creature need it most? Though it may have to be cast once these things get near, so it would have to be someone in 'reach' of me."

"Oh, and those of you that can't cast we've got some potions available."

"Well, if no one else wants it Armand, I sure could use it. Or Squeaver. Actually, Squeaver probably needs it more then I do."

Squeaver moves closer to Armand, to protect him, regardless of getting the Shield or not.

On Round 1, I cast Owl's Wisdom on myself.
On Round 2, I cast Magic Fang on myself.

OOC: I'll get an update out here hopefully tonight on all of the spells and durations currently in affect for me.

Elyngael accepts a potion of Flying from Armand and elevates 20 feet. She also casts barkskin on Khan, and recommends to Mack, "Mack, you should take the potion of Enlarge person."
She still has an arrow notched and ready.

On round 1, Owen calls out to the Wardens: "I'll try to deter the ones on the ground a little, but I'll focus my main efforts on the air. 'Osul, can you shift into the form of something that fights underground, to take care of the burrowers?" Then he casts Fly on himself and takes to the air. On round 2, he uses his Invisibility Field to disappear, then flies higher and casts Major Image. A massive stone wall, ten feet thick, ten feet high, and 120 feet long rumbles out of the ground behind the party, apparently rooted deep in the ground. DC 18 Will save to disbelieve.

Swift - Activate Invisibility Field.
Standard - Cast Major Image: a really big stone wall appears. DC 18 Will Save to disbelieve. Note: This is a figment, so it is sense-affecting, not mind-affecting. No matter how dumb these creatures are, it should affect them.
Move - Fly higher.

"Owen, so we're to be first against the wall when the revolution comes?"

'Osul had plans to start setting the defenses up between the wardens and the oncoming creatures. Maybe there will still be time.

He spends a Hero Point for an extra standard action, with which he casts Wall Of Thorns A massive thicket of briars and thorns, ten feet thick, ten feet high, and 80 feet long sprouts twisting and entwining out of the ground between the wardens and the creatures. He then spends the actual round summoning a Large Earth Elemental to attend to the subteranean threats.

In the second round he tries to build on the theme, casting Entangle (using the Wall of Thorns as the diameter of the circle of effect).

OOC: Thanks Lynnette! I thought about it, but I rely much more on Dex then Str, so getting enlarged actually does more harm then good for me. ;( I thought about using it for Squeaver, but apparently it's humanoid only (and Squeaver would likewise have a similar problem, also relying more on Dex then Str).

I wonder if it would help Atlas quite a bit, since he's a Strength Fighter?

As you are wrapping up your second round of actions, you see big, glowing letters toward the center of the battlefield. They say: "SIGNAL IF YOU NEED HELP. GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE. SINCERELY, THE IRON DRAGONS".

The casters in the group put up considerable defences. By your DMs count: Wind Wall, Entangle, Entangle, and Wall of Thorns. It will slow many things down, but against an army this size it may only be buying time. For safe measure a Major Image (stone wall) behind the party.

At the same time the warriors in the group ready themselves. Obstacles only hold back foes for so long of course.

The ground troops draw near. Two buzzing swarms of wasps flies over the entangled ground and then moves to try and find a way around the windwall that would surely blow them away. At their base speed you envisage they will be around it in 2rnds.

Five skeletal demons are also trying to make their way around the entangled, thorny and windy area. At their base speed you envisage they will be around it in 3rnds.

Devils, however, are not stopped by the defences as 4 teleport right near the party. Black and twisted angelic warriors, with wings stained black shear and carrying fiery bows. They fly 20ft off the ground and are spaced 10ft apart. There is nothing between them and the party.

More creatures continue to follow all of these. A seemingly endless mass of monsters looking to break you. The Sarr has grown to some 200ft wide and 400ft tall. All around there are groups trying to push back the monsters that spew from his bloodweed form.

OOC: Knowledge Religion: 18 vs 16, 9 vs 18

"Babau Demons...!" shouts 'Osul, followed by a still shouted solitary expletive which doesn't clarify if he was surprised he recalled them, or wished he had more to follow that up with, or wished he hadn't recalled them at all.

"Buy them time..." mutters 'Osul as he looks to put the finish touch to his outer fortifications, and casts Plant Growth, centred again on the Wall of Thorns (but specifically not impacting The Wardens, nor the pace behind them towards the Stone Wall). Hopefully this bolsters both the Entanglement and the Wall of Thorns.

In the hope that something will come of it, 'Osul spends his last remaining Hero Point for one last extra standard action — to go Lightning Lord on the all too neat formation of the teleporting devils.
Damage: 10, 9, 8, and 10, Reflex Save DC 21 for half damage.

OoC: Remember, of the the main PCs (not animal companions, sorry) have Haste! It adds to your movement speed and AC, among other things.

IC: Owen recognizes each of the enemies and shares what he knows: "Those are Hellwasps! We'll need electricity or cold to deal with them; don't bother with fire. Babau demons! We'll need cold iron or good weapons to hurt them; most elemental attacks won't hurt them. The near ones are Erinyes devils. Fire and poison won't hurt them, but good weapons will."

Owen casts Stoneskin on himself and maintains his Invisibility Field as he flies up and back toward the illusory wall. He's about 150 feet above the it.

Osul thickens the Wall of Thorns AND Entangled area. They both become thicker and more troublesome. He digs deep for some more time and calls down some lightning on the devils (OOC: Please roll SR for future attacks. I've given you these in full though). 3 dodge some of the damage, and 1 takes the full zap.

Atlas puts on a display, twirling his longsword in his hand and across his body and somehow leaves two of the devils shaken! That's right, even the spawns of hell are frightened by the fighter.

Armand thinks about it but eventually gives Atlas some windwalking ability.

Owen makes his skin a little tougher (though presumably words would still hurt). He keeps his invisibility field up, but can see the devils watching him all the same. Owen may have something to add about what the devils can and can't see.

Elyngael starts to fire some arrows into the enemy. Cold Iron looks to be the right option here with the full brunt of the arrows doing what arrows do. Khan is ready to act as guard.

Mack does something so amazing it defies all words.

The enemy act...

The swarms and demons continue their movements to get closer to the party. The wasp swarm is flying 75ft away from the party and flying fast. The demons are running along the border of the thorns and entangle area, still trying to get around them. They're about 200ft away.

The devils screech as they launch fiery arrows into the party.

Armand is the first target. (Hit AC33, 27, 29. 3 others miss. Armand takes 7 + 12 + 7 normal damage, and 1 + 6 + 4 fire damage)

Atlas is the next, also taking 3 hits (Hit AC24, 31, 32. 3 others miss. Atlas takes 14 + 12 + 9 normal damage, and 3 + 4 + 3 fire damage)

The devils are 30ft away from the front of the party, spaced 10ft apart each, and flying 20ft off the ground.

All around you can see other groups fighting for their lives as well. None are giving up any ground to these beasts.

YurrNeshi quickly casts and becomes an air an enlarged elemental and plows into the creatures around him as a whirlwind.10 foot diameter 40 foot tall vortex

Damage 9 points per creature struck + below

>>>Creatures one or more size categories smaller than the whirlwind might take damage when caught in the whirlwind (generally damage equal to the monster's slam attack for a creature of its size) and may be lifted into the air. An affected creature must succeed on a Reflex save (DC 18) when it comes into contact with the whirlwind or take damage as if it were hit by the whirlwind creature's slam attack. It must also succeed on a second Reflex save or be picked up bodily and held suspended in the powerful winds, automatically taking the indicated damage each round. A creature that can fly is allowed a Reflex save each round to escape the whirlwind. The creature still takes damage but can leave if the save is successful.

Creatures trapped in the whirlwind cannot move except to go where the whirlwind carries them or to escape the whirlwind. Trapped creatures can otherwise act normally, but must succeed on a concentration check (DC 18) to cast a spell. Creatures caught in the whirlwind take a –4 penalty to Dexterity and a –2 penalty on attack rolls. The whirlwind can have only as many creatures trapped inside at one time as will fit inside the whirlwind's volume. The whirlwind can eject any carried creatures whenever it wishes as a free action, depositing them in its space.

If the whirlwind's base touches the ground, it creates a swirling cloud of debris. This cloud is centered on the creature and has a diameter equal to half the whirlwind's height. The cloud obscures all vision, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. Creatures 5 feet away have concealment, while those farther away have total concealment. Those caught in the cloud of debris must succeed on a concentration check (DC 20) to cast a spell.

Atlas grunts as he is impaled by the arrows. "Armand, it looks like we're both going to need that healing. I'll stay within distance, and thanks for the Air Walk!" Atlas, rushes forward and up to confront the devils, while staying within the 30 ft that Armand requested. With all the spells and his holy weapon he's excited to see what he can do!

He strikes true as he approaches one of the shaken devils. Now that he's within range he should be able to deal much more damage going forward.

"Ugh" Armand staggers under the vicious onslaught of the furies arrows. Before Atlas 'walks' off, he channels energy to heal.
Heal 11 hp to himself and Atlas.

He then spends a hero point, and casts HOLY SMITE on the hellswarm. Lets, see that's evil and outsiders. 8d6 for 29 points damage. Will save 17 for half damage and to avoid being blinded for 1 round.

"Mack, do something, I think we may need help! From what Owen says about them we are going to be overwhelmed quickly, we may need help from the Iron Dragons."

I'll drink my Anything Potion (level 3) as a Fly Potion, and fly up to flank the devil that Atlas is attacking. I'll then use a Hero Point to do my flurry:

(flurry of blows: d20+13+2(flank)+1(bless)+1(haste) for each blow, and d8-1 damage+1d6(sneak),
+1(fang),+1 to hit and +1d6 fire damage on first attack from flaming tear

Owen realizes that he can't do much about this particular crop of enemies, so he stays invisible and flies higher in an attempt to leave their range of true vision. He's around 195 feet above the wall, now. He turns his attention to the Sarr, that he might learn more about the creatures it is spreading: How are these monsters appearing? Are they contained inside the massive being? Are they being summoned or called? Are they being created by it ex nihilo?

Neshi casts a spell and transfoms into an air elemental. He takes in a deep breath and forms himself into a whirlwind and then moves to pick up some enemies. None look to be affected by the windy form.
Highlight to display spoiler: {OOC: Not sure if you saw this bit: "other spells that change your size have no effect on you while you are under the effects of a polymorph spell." Your Enlarge spell won't function while you're polymorphed. Please also let me know the spell you cast to change your shape. EB1?}

Armand digs deep to Holy Smite the swarms. The spell does far more damage than he was expecting, what with swarms taking extra damage from area attacks. Both swarms looked to have stopped in their tracks, blinded.

Atlas steps right up and delivers some holy vengeance upside Devil #2. His blade digs deep and leaves a scar on the devil's face that will take a lot of time to heal.

Mack flies up to double-team the devil that Atlas is having a go at. His attacks hit however the fire doesn't look to do much

Osul calls down more lightning bolts on the blinded swarms. Neither swarm are able to see it coming and the lightning really hurts them. He's really starting to fry them.

Elyngael unloads more cold iron arrows. The arrows are hitting their mark however the fire doesn't look to be doing anything.

Owen stays safely hidden away. The devils may not be able to see him, but he's pretty sure that they can see that there isn't really a wall. He tries to get a handle on how the Sarr is able to create these critters. No summoning or casting looks to be happening. They seem to be emerging freely from his massive body. As each wave of creatures is released the Sarr starts to look a little thinner.

Armand wonders whether now is the time to call for some Iron Dragon assistance. Far in the distance though things look quite grim. The group you suspect to be the Iron Dragons is battling a number of elder dragons. Fire, lighting and green acid clouds blanket the area. The unthinkable has also happened: one of the Iron Dragons looks to have collapsed to the ground! It may be difficult for them to help anyone right now. At least they look to have drawn the sizeable foes away from the fight.

The enemy act...

Devil #1 fires a volley of arrows at Elyngael! (Hit AC29, 24. Miss AC18. Elyngael takes 13 + 10 normal damage + 3 + 1 fire)

Devil #2 is surrounded by Mack and Atlas. It drops it's bow, draws a sword and swings at Mack. This devil has surgical accuracy with its blade and draws a large amount of blood (Hit AC35. Crti confirmed on AC33! Mack takes 26pts damage!)

Devil #3 fires a volley at Osul! (Hit AC24, 21, 21. Osul takes 12 + 8 + 8 normal damage + 2 + 5 + 3 fire)

Devil #4 fires at Armand! (Hit AC25, 23. Miss AC21. Armand takes 14 + 9 normal damage + 1 + 6 fire)

The swarms are blinded and rather than move into the wind wall or tangled and thorny area instead elect to stand still, some 75ft away from the party.

The demons are getting close now. 90ft away from the party and running. Fast.

Atlas is in position to show this Devil what they are made of. He digs deep and begins to execute his favored sequence of attacks and lands with the first hit, but falters and fails on the rest. He struggles to find an extra energy reserve and attacks again, but again fails. He is letting his friends down!

Armand takes a brief moment to bolster his defences. An Entropic Shield and a Resist spell do the trick nicely.

Osul puts some spiked stones in front of the demons to slow them down. He draws down a few more lightning bolts on the swarms.

Mack and Atlas combine to deliver an assault to Devil#2. Mack has better luck landing his attacks, however Atlas's damage is better... when he connects. He laments not being able to do more for the party, but truth be told, things are far from dire. Everyone is still breathing after all.

Elyngael draws some more arrows and takes some time to carefully line up her shot. The first arrow goes clear through the demon's neck, dropping it where it stands (falls?).

Owen makes a renewed effort to get into the fight.

Neshi-wind holds his ground.

'Osul suspects that Khan and Squeaver have the match of the swarms, and if he can hold up the demons then that will best help the other wardens dealing with the devils, and he pumps a fist in the air as Elyngael's arrow fells it's target demon.

He casts Entangle on the slow moving Babau Demons (Saving Throw: Reflex partial vs DC19 ; Spell Resistance: no), and continues to dig deep (why stop now - spend 1 more Hero Point) to hopefully entomb them in a Sleet Storm (Saving Throw: none; Spell Resistance: no)

Armand lets loose with another round of healing. Hopefully everyone should be in the 30 foot range, he excludes the swarm(s) and the Devil fighting nearby with Atlas and Mack.

Everyone heals 14.

He then draws a dramatic breath (spending last hero point) as he whips out the windwall scroll he had from the sargrass boat captain. He utters the words to the spell and weaves it in, through, and about, all grounded party members, (i.e. at least Sqeaver, Khan, and Armand). The range should be sufficient to drive off the hellswarms from the companions but short enough not to interfere with Elyngael's archery. It will also protect all of us in the blowing wind from archery shots.

Squeaver bites at the approaching swarm, and even though some of the wasps drop there are still enough remaining.

Osul drops a double spell combination this DM hasn't seen before: Entangle + Sleet Storm.

The first spell entangles demons 3 and 4. They can't move at all. Movement through the area is now difficult terrain and drops speed by half. He then covers THAT area with a Sleet Storm. Not only can the demons no longer see out, but movement through that area is now so tough that it will take a DC19 Ref Save AND a DC10 Acrobatics check to move at 25% pace. So even if all those checks are made the demons can only move 15ft as a double move. Assuming the spells were cast directly on top of them and thus surrounding them it will at best take them 3 rounds just to get out!

As if that wasn't enough Neshi dumps an Ice Storm on top of that. They all take 11pts damage (resist cold) and will be lucky to escape from these spells. Movement in that area has now dropped to 1 square being the equivalent of 40ft. It's safe to say the demons are well and truly locked up.

Neshi and Osul get hero points for a clever combination of spells.
Highlight to display spoiler: {Wow. "If more than one hampering condition applies, multiply all additional costs that apply. This is a specific exception to the normal rule for doubling." So... 1 square = 5ft. Entangle x2 = 10ft. Sleet Storm x2 = 20ft. Ice Storm x2 = 40ft. Assuming they don't get entangled along the way, it should take them 8 rounds to get out at best.}

Mack continues his flurry and kills off Devil #2. He takes a 5ft step closer to Squeaver and uses his extra haste attack to finish off the swarm next to Squeaver!

With Devil#2 now absolutely dead, Atlas is able to take a 5ft step to get within range of Devil#1. He just about kills it on his own!

Armand let loose another round of healing and sets up a wind wall to protect the party from incoming arrows.

Owen drops down to boost Mack's strength. This could make things interesting.

Elyngael can no longer see the demons through all that sleet and ice, but gets the impression that won't be a threat for a while. She instead targets the nearby devils. As a result of Atlas' attacks, Elyngael is able to finish one off. Her remaining arrow is then sent at Devil#4.

Devil #3 drops its bow to go and attack Atlas (Miss AC20)

Devil #4 turns to shoot at Atlas (Hit AC34. Crit confirmed on AC33. Miss AC15, 20. Atlas takes 24pts damage + 6 fire)

Swarm #2 is pushed to the outskirts of the windwall some 20ft away from Khan, who is closest to them.

Damage 16 points per Reflex DC 18 for 1/2 damage

Creatures one or more size categories smaller than the whirlwind might take damage when caught in the whirlwind (generally damage equal to the monster's slam attack for a creature of its size) and may be lifted into the air. An affected creature must succeed on a Reflex save (DC 18) when it comes into contact with the whirlwind or take damage as if it were hit by the whirlwind creature's slam attack. It must also succeed on a second Reflex save or be picked up bodily and held suspended in the powerful winds, automatically taking the indicated damage each round. A creature that can fly is allowed a Reflex save each round to escape the whirlwind. The creature still takes damage but can leave if the save is successful.

Creatures trapped in the whirlwind cannot move except to go where the whirlwind carries them or to escape the whirlwind. Neshi makes quick work of the remaining hellwasp swarm, scattering tiny little carcasses flying through the air OOC: Just confirming that Neshi is a Small Air Elemental, and how many rounds you have left in whirlwind form

Osul hits the devil with a pretty weak lightning bolt, and even then, it looks to shrug off half the damage.

Armand keeps up the buffing of the party and laments not being able to to safely get close enough to do some healing.

The buffed up Mack steps closer to Devil #3 and flurries as if his life depended on it.

Squeaver sits safe on the ground licking his wounds.

Owen sends a blinding ray at Devil #3. He expects it to be a miss but is happily surprised that he actually hit it! (Yep, Touch AC17 is a hit. Please roll damage

Elyngael just keeps the arrows coming.

Khan is happily safe on the ground

Atlas was so happily basking in his glory that it draws his attention away from the present. He does manage to hit the devil, but barely.

Devil #3 attacks Mack. He did the most damage and the devil hopes to repay him in kind. Fortunately for Mack, his new defences are up to the task (Miss AC28, 25.)

He considers the ineffectiveness of his called lightning on the Erinyes, but knows his quarterstaff would have even less impact.
One still in the air, and one on the ground. There are plenty of forces on the ground, so he looks up at the one in the air, and then more closely at the bow, when an idea strikes him. He casts Quench on the bow, hoping to suppress the flame damage it appears to provide its arrows, and burns his last Hero Point (ahead of the roll) to try to make it through the Erinyes inherent spell resistance.

Atlas shakes off the distractions and concentrates. In doing so he delivers a clinic on how to fight a devil in hand to hand combat, landing on every single attack. He lets out an angry growl when his last blow finishes the attack and then shakes his sweaty hair out of his eyes.

Armand continues with buffing the party. This time granting Elyngael some fire resistance. (Mack is correct, a Nat20 on a skill check isn't an autopass. This was a Perception check anyway, so no biggie)

Atlas gets back in the groove. He swings his holy longsword with renewed strength and accuracy and finishes off devil #3.

Only Devil #4 remains.

Mack is close enough to start hitting it and proceeds to slap it around a little.

Owen can see something approaching and prepares for the worst. A fireball tends to work in most situations.

Like the devils before it, when confronted up close Devil#4 drops his fiery bow and resorts to hand-to-hand combat with Mack, but he's just too hard to hit! (Miss AC17)

All Atlas and Elyngael can do is watch their attacks sail wide, but that's ok. Osul drops a lightning bolt on the devil, Neshi a lightning bolt, and Mack flurries. Even if all saves are made it is still enough to kill it.

Armand and Elyngael also try to watch for the demons. No matter how hard they look however they cannot see within the driving sleet created by the Sleet Storm.

Owen is the one to call out some good news: aid is on the way!

The devils have been slain and the swarms dispersed. The demons are still trapped within all sorts of spells.

The party look to have a moment to gather themselves.

The bralani will arrive next round.

OOC: My notes on my Thunderstone: You can throw this stone as a ranged attack with a range increment of 20 feet. When it strikes a hard surface (or is struck hard), it creates a deafening bang that is treated as a sonic attack. Each Creature within a 10-foot-radius spread must make a DC 15 Fortitude save or be deafened for 1 hour. A deafened Creature, in addition to the obvious effects, takes a –4 Penalty on Initiative and has a 20% chance to miscast and lose any spell with a verbal component that it tries to cast. Since you don't need to hit a specific target, you can simply aim at a particular 5-foot square. Treat the target square as AC 5.

Atlas comes back down to the ground, his hair standing up a little after all that lighting right next to him, and accepts the potion from 'Osul. Taking the stopper out he downs it quickly so that he can be ready for the next fight.

"Thank you 'Osul, that helped." He looks around at the group, "How are we on spells and prayers? I'm guessing this is going to be a long day."

Before turning back to the field he looks to Armand, "Well friend, I'm ready for that other prayer if your god is still willing to give it to me. Every little bit helps."

Atlas isn't as jovial as he normally is. There is a look that you have never seen on him...maturity? He looks ready for battle, he's in his head preparing, he knows the day is going to be long and they need to hold even if it means their life. Yeah, maybe maturity, but then he sees you looking and he smirks and winks. Can he be mature and Atlas all at the same time? What has the wold come to?

Just to make sure my plan was clear... I'm flying towards the demons, if possible with all of the spells on and around them. Up and over the wall and up high above them, if nothing else, before I drop that Thunderstone in their area. I'll be out of range for a Mass Healing by Armand, but pfffft..... ;)

Owen drops down next to the others. "I'm still pretty good on spells, in part because I could do very little against those enemies. I imagine we'll face more soon; I hope I can do more than identify them."

He looks about at the group during this lull in battle. Mack is up to his usual antics, though this flight of fancy is more helpful than normal. 'Osul is looking out for the health of the Wardens. Atlas, ever a fighter, is planning ahead for the next struggle. Armand is supporting his friends with the same intensity out of battle as within. Elyngael is still on the periphery of the group, alert and outward-focused.

Owen smiles quietly to himself. Maybe his age has granted him a little wisdom after all: he remembers that he is a scholar at heart, not a combat mage, and here is a book that needs to be arranged among the others. He turns to the elven ranger, saying, "Elyngael, why don't you coordinate our defense with Atlas? We were in disarray in the last exchange, but having a plan would help us fight as a team."

Atlas looks at Armand a bit sheepishly, "Thanks for the healing, but I thought you were going to do something to make it harder to hit me?"

Looking more confident when he looks at 'Osul, "That is something I can certainly do! Hey El, you seem to like that bow. I'm going to keep getting out in front and trying to draw their attention. Mack will flank with me so that we have a better chance of success. I really liked how the casters were able to slow the groups down so that we could deal with them one at a time. As the bad guys get through the spells they'll high Mack and I. If they try to go around us you pick them off and push them back to us. How are you with that longsword? If they break past Mack and I we'll need someone to stand in front of the casters to hold them off as long as possible until Mack and I can get back to help."

Mack decides it's time to throw that stone away, and he has just the place for it. He tosses it towards the ice storm. He can't see if he has actually hit anything but there is a very satisfying *bang*.

Osul does a quick assessment of the team. The party are actually doing ok.

Armand reminds the party of their stock of cure potions. Now is as good a time as any to have a drink.

There are further discussions about the fight, the enemies, stock levels, and what to do next. Tactics have also become a good topic. A planned attack and defense could prove the difference here.

The Wind Form Bralani Azatas have finally reached the party and slow downn to settle amongst the group.

"The Iron Dragons bid you well. Good shall prevail today as the heros of the Wold unite" says one with a whispery, windy feminine voice. There are no iminent threats so the azata start casting spells. "Our spells are at your service"

One reaches a windy arm out towards Atlas whilst the other towards Elyngael. Assuming neither resist, Atlas and Elyngael are now under the effects of a blur spell (6mins)

The party still have a few rounds before the demons are loose. The bralani are offering CSW or Blur spells as required/requested by the party.

Armand looks around. "By Gargul's cold breath. I think those guys over there may need your help." He points southward around the clock dial, in fact next to the Tree on the dial. There you can barely make out 2 Tyrannosaurus Rex's engaging a small party.

Mack is up for a little Blur (Woo Hoo!)

Owen also takes up the offer. He puts the other group about a quarter mile from the party. You could get there (eventually) but may be leaving this area unprotected.

Osul is third to the party so will have to wait a moment. He works off the assumption that the spiked stones and entangle spells are still in effect, and will continue to do so when the storm wears off.

Elyngael isn't ready to let her guard down just yet. There's a whole bunch of demons within her range and they're just waiting to come out. Blur-Atlas follows suit and prepares for whatever may come next

Armand isn't as concerned for the party wellbeing as he is for that group of people nearby fighting ... dinosaurs???

The azatas blur Mack and Owen as requested. They look about at the other nearby groups and concur with Armand "We should go to their aid. A few more spells on you and then we shall hurry to them"

Atlas hums a tune to himself as he looks into the storm of spells. As Mack approaches he continues to stare forward, but says "Hey buddy, ready to do this again? As the party isn't in immediate danger, he calls out to the others, saying "I'm going to see if I can help out the group fighting the dinosaurs. The group do more buffing. Neshi protecting himself more from fire, Mack casts Guidance on Elyngael, Armand casts Prot from Evil on Atlas, Bralani 1 casts Blur on Neshi, Bralani 2 casts Blur on Armand. It's a buff frenzy!

Owen is concerned about the group fighting the dinosaurs nearby and makes off in that direction. He doesn't get as far as he intended though (Highlight to display spoiler: {"The subject of a fly spell can charge but not run"}

The Bralani look about and are satisfied with what has been done. "We shall follow our masters orders and tend to those in most need. May your blades be sharp and your minds sharper" The pair start their way towards the dino-fight.

The battlefield is starting to be riddled by corpses. Dinosaurs, demons, devils, dragons, hydras, and skeletons are amongst all the things you can see dead on the grass. The battles still rage though as more and more creatures burst from the Sarr and make their way about the battlefield. The Sarr has reduced in size such that he is now "only" 350 foot tall. He looks down on the bodies and booms "YOU WILL NOT HURT MY LAND! I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED SO EASILY!" before letting loose another roar and launching a new wave of creatures, causing Sarr to shrink. You're not sure your eyes are seeing clearly, but it looks like there's about 10 big red flying seahorses coming this way. Yep. Flying seahorses. You put them around 5 rounds away.

Unfortunately you may not have as much time to prepare as you had hoped. The Sleet and Ice Storms have ended sooner than they should have. There is also no signs of any spiked stones or entanglement. The demons are free!

Atlas snorts as the Bralani leave, "If my mind is sharper than my sword then we're in trouble."

Feeling Armand's spell surround him Atlas yells, "Thanks Armand!". With a renewed sense of protection Atlas feels invulnerable and puts on a dazzling display with his longsword to show the demon's that they are in for a short and deadly fight.

Would anyone like an Owl's Wisdom?

DM RobC, Owen: http://www.woldiangames.com/Woldipedia/index.php/Other_Core_Rules? Possibly also letting the red flying seahorses (what?!) get here sooner. It is tucked away with the Masterwork Tools rules.
DM RobC: Good Wiki find, however only creatures with a natural fly speed can use the run action, and - this is where the wiki comes in - if they choose to must keep to a straight line. Flight speed gained through a spell does not allow for the run action.

What is the status of the Wall of Thorns, Plant Growth and the original Entangle centred on that WoT?

Atlas puts on another terrific - or terrifying depending on where you are standing - display with his sword.

There is naturally some confusion as to what the distant creatures are. Owen, Armand and Osul only have a moment, but believe these to be seahorses. More accurately though it is likely they are some sort of giant seahorse carrying the bloodweed sickness and somehow given the ability to breath air and fly. Having never seen or even heard of such a thing that's about all you can tell.

The original Wall of Thorns, Plant Growth and Entangle spells are all still in effect, though may not make much of a deterrent for flying seahorses.

Armand downs a cure potion and ready for the fight. Mack does the same.

Neshi sends in a deep slumber spell. Demon 2 shrugs off the effect but number 3 drops like a stone. He considers using the true strike wand but then has to pause. Wands of True strike have a range of personal. Only the person using the wand can benefit from the spell.

Elyngael isn't going to mess around with potions. She just wants to shoot stuff. One arrow hits.

Owen sends in a Crushing Despair spell and is happy with the results. Only Demon 5 is unaffected.

The demons attack...

Demon #2 moves close enough to attack Squeaver using a longspear with 10ft reach. The despair and dazzling display make the attack a poor one (Miss AC10)

Demon #5 moves close enough to attack Mack the same way but also misses (Miss AC19)

Demon #4 casts a spell and is then surrounded in darkness. It moves close to the party. Mack and Atlas find themselves just within it: 5ft from the edge of the 20ft raidus. Demon #2 and #5 are 10ft further in - around 15ft from the edge.

Owen calls out: "Atlas! Mack! Those things are covered in acidic slime, so be careful hitting them." Then he lobs a fireball at the oncoming seahorses. It seems to be more effective than usual? Not expected with sea creatures.... Creatures in the radius take 38 fire damage; a Reflex save with a DC of 18 will halve that damage.

Armand casts Light on Atlas's shield to help guide him in the darkness.

Mack tumbles to get into a flanking position with Atlas. It puts him further into the darkness but gives Atlas a better angle.

Owen calls out a warning as he decides to throw a couple of seahorses on the barbie. 2 look very crispy and another 3 a little well done.

Elyngael fires off two arrows into the darkness and believes both connect (Miss chance due to concealment in darkness: 50%)

Atlas swings into the darkness and connects twice. He can tell based on the sickly slime that now coats his sword. (Miss chance due to concealment in darkness: 50%. 2 hit. Atlas to make 2 x DC18 Ref Saves: One to prevent 6pts acid to his sword, another to prevent 7pts acid to his shield.)

The enemy act...

Demons 2 and 4 coordinate to flank Atlas. They scratch, claw and bite at him, but amidst all the action only 3 attacks connect (Hit AC28, 28, 27. Miss AC24, 25, 16. Blur Miss chance: 20%. 39, 44, 46 all hit. Atlas takes 34-6 = 28pts damage)

Demon 5 gets close enough to attack Mack but can't beat the rogue's defences (Miss AC15)

Osul puts the seahorses (airhorses?) at around 360ft away from the party and closing at around 120ft/rnd.

A pitched battle rages across the plain. All over, heroes are engaged with the creatures Sarr has spawned. The tide appears to be turning on the second wave as heroes battle and defeat animals, casters, giants, dragons, and liches. Sarr notices the defeat of its minions as well as the weakened state of the rest of its forces and rages, “ALL OF THE SARGRASS IS AT MY COMMAND, MY CHILDREN WILL PROTECT ME! YOU CANNOT WITHSTAND ITS CONCENTRATED POWER!” as a new wave springs forth from Sarr’s body. Sarr is now much smaller.

Yurr'Neshi sends a fireball into the oncoming herd of seahorses ... there are 5 of them ... they roll 19, 22, 26, 16. and 13 --- no wait, they are bloodgrass infected, so that gives them +4 dex off book, so that's +2 reflex saves so make that 21, 24, 28, 18, and 15. Number 2 and 3 take half damage. By odd coincidence, those are also the two that had failed the last save. Well, that puts total damage to all seahorses at well over their hp maxes, even boosted with +4 con via bloodgrass. ALL THE POOR SEAHORSIES ARE BURNT TO CRISPS! AWWW! Nice Job, Mister Yurr!

Armand wonders why his Light did not dispel the Darkness ... he concludes that probably the darkness was created at a level equivalent higher than that of the light. But no matter, a Dispel can do the job ... nice job with the math, by the way, and yes, the darkness is lifted for the moment. Of course, they can create it at will, so we'll see if any bother to restablish the effect ...

Note that the so-called "Darkness" only serves to lower the light level in the area by one step, so if we assume normal light, then the Darkness creates dim light conditions, forcing a 20% miss chance but not blinding anybody. And if you have Darkvision, the dim light is no problem at all, and you do not have to roll miss chances. Oh, by the way, all the demons have darkvision. Muahaha!

Well, looks like DM Rob is giving total concealment and 50% miss chances due to darkness. Well, for this round at least, Kindly Substitute DM Cayzle is ruling that the "Darkness" does not stop you from seeing who is where and that it only grants a 20% miss chance (0% if you have Darkvision) per my more accurate interpretation of the rules. See, I am a nice Substitute DM!

Mack continues fighting a demon. He attacks twice, hitting twice for 21 damage total, and dodging the acid that splashes when he strikes. Sweet. It is very nearly dead.

Atlas attacks four times, and there is no Darkness, so the kindly substitute DM has zero miss chances to roll and no -2 penalty to att and dam for Darkness, whatever that comes from. So Mack hits ACs 21, 23, 23, and 35 -- ALL HIT, whoa! Okay, the one Mack just hit is WAY DEAD. The next three attacks hit Demon 4, for total 6+21+19=46! Wowsy!

OH WAIT! Atlas's Haste is expired! That means the hit vs AC21 is actually vs AC20, so that misses. And the extra Haste attack is not made at all! Well, shucks. That means Atlas only hits twice, not four times. The shield's 6 damage is still enough to put down Demon 2, and Demon four is hit once for 21.

Elyngael shoots twice and misses twice, alas. Her Khan makes a coup de grace vs the sleeping demon. When taking this action, there is no need to roll to hit. You just inflict a critical hit, and then use that for a save vs death. The kindly Substitute DM rules that to be auto damage of 18 with a critical hit bite. That means a DC28 fort save ... the demon has a bloodgrass-boosted +12 on fort saves, and rolls a 28, exactly what it needs, sorry. Demon 3 is down 18 hp, awake, and prone. BTW, Khan has to make DC18 relfex saves with each bite to avoid acid damage, but kindly substitute DM Cayzle does not apply that rule to coup de grace attempts, so no worries on that front. If Khan continues to attack, though, please roll a refles save each time she or he hits.

Owen does NOT waste his fireball on the dead seahorsies. Will your kindly DM of tomorrow grant you an extra action to compensate? Meh. We'll see. At least you did not waste the fireball?

The enemy act...

Demon 3 is prone. He tries to create Darkness! He does not want to provoke an AoO and lose it, so he uses it on the defensive. But his concentration check fails and he ruins the spell-like ability. Sighing, he stands from prone, and THAT provokes an AoO from Khan. Remember to roll that DC18 reflex save if you hit to avoid 1d8 acid damage (roll it yourself if you miss the save please).

Demon 4 sees that Atlas is a bigger threat and a more damaged target, so attacks him. He attacks with two claws and a bite. First claw is a crit threat nat 20 that confirms against AC30! AND the next two hits are a nat 17 and a nat 18! WHOA, the die roller hates you, Atlas! At least there's no sneak attack damage since his pal the flanker is dead! Now, it says in Atlas's header that he has a 20% miss chance, and I see that the Iron Dragons sent you guys some help? Well, let's roll those miss chances, starting with the crit ... I roll a miss on a 01-20 ... 6, 90, and 57! Well, if Atlas really does have that miss chance, it just saved him from that crit. Damage to Atlas is 16 damage from the second claw and the bite; add in another 13 if that miss chance is not real.

Demon 5 keeps on fighting Mack. It makes three attacks at +12. One hits, a failed drit threat, and Mack takes 6 damage.

To answer a question ... all three demons still in the fight are within 30 ft.

NO DARKNESS FOR NEXT ROUND!

ooc: Hey Cayzle, thanks for subbing! I apologize for not updating my buffers, on vacation and working off a phone. The 20%miss is from blur. Also, I forgot my protection from evil, which causes the claw attacks (natural attacks miss, like claws) to all miss, unless I am reading it wrong? Finally, I am not sure why my haste is gone. I had something like 65 rounds left. If it is gone please let me know why and ignore my last attack. Thanks!

Owen the missiles hit the demon by Atlas like a trip hammer doing 26 hp of damage to the fiend.

Mack: fists without flanking fail at flailing. you do 9 points to the demon, and avoid the acid.

Atlas: (snap kick from Cayzle, things happen.) your attacks are more than this demon can take and it spews ichor as you almost decapitate it with your last swing.

Armand: you blast out the power of your god and damage all the demons.

‘Osul: sends his bat into the fray.

Elyngael supports her companion with covering fire to help it withdraw. but the combination of all the attacks are too much for the demon and it crumbles to the ground and begins to bleed out.

Yurr'Neshi pop the demon clean with his lightning bolt.

the sole remaining demon, seeing it's vile companions fall redoubles its efforts to cause misery by attacking the small halfling. it stabs at him with its spear an tries to bite him, but cannot quite hit the dodging halfling.

Unsure what he can makout out coming from the Sar, 'Osul calls another lightning bolt, this time upon "the sole remaining demon".
The dire bat, if finally left with nothing to attack will fly Sarwards in search of something new to smaite/gnaw. Native flyer "flyrunning" 160'.

with a zip Elyngael's arrow hits the Demon. it freezes and slowly sinks to the ground where it slowly starts bleeding to death.

The Sar continues to rage in the centre of the circle and you can see other groups hard pressed by various monsters. you see something drop from the Sar and begin to roll your way, but it is several rounds out. You have time to get healed and re-buff if you need to.

Yep, something is rolling this way. It looks like a huge reddish metal sphere and it's trampling everything in its path. Corpses and grass get squashed like a rolling pin over dough.

It's speed is a constant however - it isn't slowing down - and most certainly and unerringly headed towards the party

The enemy seem relentless.

With the ball approaching Neshi boosts his spell resistance, Armand channels some healing to everyone, and Mack gives Atlas a little guidance.

It's actually a little surprising but Mack can tell this is some kind of construct.

Osul stands in awe and just hopes something will slow the ball down

Owen ascends out of the balls reach and sends down two scorching rays. No damage looks to be done whatsoever.

Elyngael wonders about potential weaknesses.

You have battled many enemy and as this new threat approaches it seem as if the fight will never end. But in fact, you have held the circle long enough! Across the battlefield you can see that all Sarr creatures are collapsing to the ground and falling from the sky and everything stops. Every minion of the Sarr, every enemy infected by or made out of bloodgrass immediately ceases to function as the corruption withers to dust and they become rooted in place as blades of Sarr grasses, only slightly tinged with red. Even the approaching metal ball has collapsed into motionless inert metal plates on the ground.

It would appear that the battle is over.

Finally, there is a huge writhing as three final gigantic creatures emerge from Sarr. They are so large -- a hundred or two hundred feet high -- that in emerging they rip the Sarr asunder! These three figures seem familiar to those images you encountered when you broke the crstal that had infected your homelands they are the mysterious figures, here born as the new powers of the Sargrass Plains.

The one of green transforms into a gigantic treant. The one of white transforms into the mother of all Sarg moths. The one of red transforms into a series of flickering bestial shapes.

They speak together in unison to all around the battlefield. Each of the Powers says a different word when there is a choice in brackets.

"WE ARE THE SARR [REBORN/BORN/EVOLVED]! WE THANK YOU, HEROES OF THE WOLD, FOR YOUR PART IN BRINGING THE PLAINS BACK TO THE WOLD!"

"WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOUR ROLE IN [ENDING/TAMING/CURING] THE [THREAT/CHALLENGE/DANGER] OF THE BLOODGRASS."

"WE HAVE [CONCEDED/AGREED/VOWED] THAT WE MUST NOT WAR AMONG OURSELVES, FOR THAT WOULD DESTROY OUR HOME FOREVER."
