Arrisa  d20=11
Wednesday September 27th, 2000 12:22:06 AM

Arrisa looks around at everyone, checking to see how they were doing. She was feeling pretty good (passed voluntary endurance check based on Con) and so walked over to Bill and helped him bring the unconcious Sea Devil in to shore.

K'isst
Wednesday September 27th, 2000 3:39:23 PM

K'isst, not 5 seconds into her sleep, awakens screaming. "Marteaus! No!" She stares around her. "Oh Gods only a dream." She groggily gets up and begins helping the injured.

Bill Troublefinder
Wednesday September 27th, 2000 8:44:43 PM

With help provided, Bill gets the sahuagin up on shore, and, distasteful as he finds the necessity, binds the wounds of the creature, and asks that someone tie him up so that he won't try again to escape. "After the serious wounds of our people are taken care of, perhaps someone can see to making sure this fellow stays alive, too. Maybe we'll find out who sent them, or something."

Bill joins in with some of the cheering, and works his way over to see Mary Bear Claw. "Mary, I'm so sorry I distracted you. I couldn't let the one who hurt you get away. Do you think you will be all right, Mary?"

Arrisa
Wednesday September 27th, 2000 11:03:28 PM

After helping Bill with the Sea Devil, Arrisa simply looks at her own wounds. She would be fine for now, and others would probably benefit from healing right now more than her. Arrisa simply shrugs and sits down, waiting to see what the others decide to do.

Arien
Thursday September 28th, 2000 2:00:09 AM

Arien covers his wound with a makeshift bandage and wanders through the Sahuagin corpses, looking for any salvageable arrows or anything else of interest.

Dm
Thursday September 28th, 2000 9:38:26 AM

(OCC sorry guys I have been having ISP probs and hard drive probs)

Bill and friends get the seemingly limp and unconcious sea devil on shore but when Bill goes to bind him finds that there is no need to bind as the sahaugin is dead (he had 1 hp left before the mind blast). Mary nods at Bill and just shrugs and then wades to shore to check on her men. The ravaging militia woman spins looking for something else to attack and then collapses. Those who get wounds bound by someone receive 2 hps those who bind themselves get back 1 hp. Hiram Veil turns and quickly goes to tell the head crew to bring it back and in moments it is back in place. The two priests, with the help of Bearclaw and his daughter get the towns folk rounded up and reseated for the ceremony. Arien finds several(6) salvageable arrows as well as two nice swords, a trident, and two nets which look very well made. Eventually Hiram Veil approaches K'isst and the others and asks if they are ready to take part in the ceremony. Just about the same time a very familiar tune can be heard being whistled, coming from the bridge and heading toward the sentinel field. Mere moments later a human male figure in splint mail carrying a shield emblazoned with the scales of justice strolls into the ceremony field.

Sedar the Survivor
Thursday September 28th, 2000 6:56:14 PM

Racing over to help the fallen Berserker. Sedar tends to her wounds. "You'll be just fine there. You did well. ....... Never did get a chance to thank you for saving me just a bit ago." He gathers the guards to help her to the Ceremony. "She wouldn't want to miss this." And as he seetles down he hears that darn whistling again. 'No ... could it be ... ?' He stands to get a better look. 'Could it be ?'

Draax
Thursday September 28th, 2000 7:17:40 PM

Draax just sits down on the beach and sighs in relief, not that the fight is over, but because he realizes that he is not going crazy and it all was not just a dream. He begins to laugh, but stops as he notices people looking at him as if he was crazy. As he starts to get in place for the ceremony he hears the whistling and turns his head in that direction.

Arien
Friday September 29th, 2000 12:55:46 AM

Returning the servicable arrows to his quiver Arien piles all of the loot near the area where the ceremony is to take place then waits to see what happens.

Arrisa
Friday September 29th, 2000 1:49:48 AM

Arrisa simply watches everyone around her. She had never seen this ceremony, but it seems there is a first time for everything. Arrisa carefully takes her leather armour off to inspect her own wounds while waiting to see what everyone else decides to do.

Bill Troublefinder
Friday September 29th, 2000 12:34:52 PM

To no one in particular, Bill suggests, "We really should move the sahuagin off the ceremony grounds before we begin."

He walks across the battlegrounds of the Sentinel field. "Andraaxius - great job with your bow. You're okay, right?"

He comes back over near Arrisa and sees her wounds. "Don't worry, Arrisa. The ceremony is a time of healing, as well as of protection. Thanks for your help. We should ..." He interrupts his sentence when he sees the whistling man with the scales of justice emblazoned on this shield, trying to see if he recognizes him. The halfling takes a deep breath, holding it for a moment.

[OOC: If the tune is familiar - what kind of tune is it? Is it the same one Marteaus whistled earlier? Or something completely different?]

K'isst
Friday September 29th, 2000 10:44:03 PM

K'isst spins toward the warrior her weapon hanging from her weary arm dragging on the ground. "What now?"

Rond
Sunday October 1st, 2000 8:05:48 AM

Once Rond is satisfied that the wounded are taken care of, he'll work on recovering his arrows. As Rond is moving about, he begins to smile somewhat realizing that they are getting closer to the ceremony. When the whistling can be heard, Rond turns to face the new comer.

DM
Sunday October 1st, 2000 9:45:20 AM

The tune you all hear being whistled is the same tune that Marteus was whistling, kind of lonely and haunting, but the whistler has yet to come into sight. The sahuagin bodies are removed from the actual ceremony grounds and everyone is starting to take their places and are looking expectantly toward you. They seem to either not notice the whistling or are just ignoring it.

Bill Troublefinder
Sunday October 1st, 2000 6:51:26 PM

Bill wonders then who the fellow is with the splint mail and shield. He has little doubt that the yet-to-appear whistler is the so-called Dark Lord, back to seek some further advantage. Or maybe just to watch...

Bill quietly asks, not wanted to alarm the gathered celebrants, "Hiram, are you acquainted with one called 'Marteaus' and also known as the Dark Lord?" He looks for any hint of recognition on Veil's face. "Well, I don't know if you can hear a tune being whistled right now or not, but, he seems to be on his way here. By the way, do you know who bears a shield with the scales of justice on it?"

The halfling looks at the expectant crowd, "Oh, well, I think it may be time to get started, regardless of what known or unknown 'guests' come to observe. Do you want to do the honors, or would you like us to say a word or two first?"

Sedar
Sunday October 1st, 2000 8:52:17 PM

Getting up. He slowly makes his way to the fringe of the crowd. In the direction of the whistled tune. 'I need to see who this is,' he whispers to himself. Upon seeing the whistler the Mage will step forwards to meet him.

Draax
Sunday October 1st, 2000 10:46:31 PM

Draax also moves in the direction of the whistling. "I hope this is not what I think it is. I thought that the nightmare was over."

Arien
Monday October 2nd, 2000 5:56:54 AM

Taking this break in the action for a breather, Arien stretches out on the ground by the pile of loot and relaxes for a bit.

K'isst (Kim)
Monday October 2nd, 2000 12:06:48 PM

The exotic troglodyte's diluted elven blood is barely enough to keep her from total collapse. Pushing for days without sleep, with new battles every few hours. Then death by the staff of Marteaus. Then an unlikely resumption of life. A nightmare repeat of a battle - but this time won.

K'isst sways, then leans upon her weapon to steady her. She will conserve her energy until the moment it is needed again. Her heavy-lidded eyes stare at the approaching figure.

Damocles
Monday October 2nd, 2000 1:53:56 PM

Damocles stops whistling as he comes upon the ceremony scene and instead moves towards the back so as not to interrupt it. He wears a tabard over his mail, and the shield he bears with the scales of justice matches the pendant of Alemi hanging about his neck. A backpack full with gear and an assortment of weaponry (flail, warhammer, and sling) mark him as a wandering pilgrim perhaps, the dust on his clothes a mark of life on the road.

Dm (the show must go on)
Monday October 2nd, 2000 7:45:30 PM

Just as the new comer comes into the ceremony grounds, the two priests turn and face the crowd and suddenly there is a hush in the ampitheatre as all eyes focus on to them. Taking turns, the two priests start telling the story of the Teucri, the sentinels, dragons, and the reasons for the renewal ceremonies. As the story goes on the sentinel statue begins to flicker with spark like flickers. The Ceremony reaches a point where the priests and towns folk are echoing a chant and parts of the story. At this point the statue is all but pulsating with bands of color. Almost as one the priests and the towns folk chants end all at once. Mere moments later, a deep resonant voice softly says, "People of the Hamlet, lend me your strength, your desires, your dreams and your hatred. Think of how you would like things to be."

K'isst (Kim)  d20=17
Monday October 2nd, 2000 8:56:40 PM

K'isst is relieved that the newcomer does not intend trouble. She turns to face the Sentinel. As the ceremony proceeds, her attention fades in and out, her eyes closed more often than open. But at the sound of the voice - the voice she has heard twice before - she forces herself to do as the Sentinel bids, willing a few minutes of focus.

She thinks back on her elvish great grandmother, and the teachings of her noble troglodyte tribe. Her chafing at the restrictions placed upon her as the daughter of the chief, and desire for adventure. Of Donyra's release for her to explore the world. And of the new companions and friends she has made only in the past few days. Her growing respect for them. Love? Weeks? Where are we in time? Her hatred for the Sons of Dread, who killed so many of her people, and of the amphibious raiders, the Sahuagin, she gives to the Sentinel.

K'isst swoons, falling to the ground, arms outstretched toward the Sentinel, lost to the moment, dreaming of hopes, of joy, of battle, of sorrows, of laughter.

Draax
Monday October 2nd, 2000 10:41:57 PM

Relieved that the newcomer is not who he thought it might be. Draax returns his attention to the ceremony.

Bill Troublefinder
Tuesday October 3rd, 2000 4:32:15 AM

The hobbit is glad that the ceremony finally begins. And the sea devils will not break it up again this year. He prays out loud (but not loudly), "Good gods above, or wherever you dwell, watch over us now, as we renew this covenant."

Bill wills his strength to the expression of shared unity. He thinks of his mother - oh! there she is! and the rest of his family! He moves over to them, and puts his arms around - well, he can't reach as far as he wants to ... Bill thinks about the berry pies, and the smell of his uncle's pipe tobacco, and of playing with his cousins - Borbo Pastna and his family. Playing in the mud. Throwing stones, and darts in contests. Of the Ogre Grog and his inn, and the great mixture of people and races that make up the town, his town, their Windhorn Hamlet. He wills the good times to return. He wills the defeat of the Sahuagin, of Marteaus, of the Sons of Dread. He rejoices in the massive strength of Atomos, in the second sight of the old woman of the Inn of the Crystal Sphere. He wills the boyish mischief of young Merik to turn to manly heroism. He mourns the loss of Branze Bones, and Borbo - and thinks wistfully of him noting his fins changing back into 'feet!', and of Galahad Quivelio, and of the few militia who just fell in the past hour. "Oh, spirit of the Sentinel, can you revive our friends who just fell in our defense?"

Rond
Tuesday October 3rd, 2000 3:01:35 PM

Rond is relieved to finally be getting the ceremony started. When the voice speaks up, Rond starts for a second. He's not sure whether this is supposed to happen or not (first time). But thinking that it is right, he starts to go back in his memory.

He dwells on his anger with Marteaus, and whether there will be lingering effects from his time shift. He dwells on his anger towards the Sahuagin, and everything they have, or have not done to the hamlet (confusing though in itself). He thinks of his strong dislike of the Sons of Dread, and their destroying of most of K'isst's tribe. He rejoices in the pleasure of having been part of the party to restore the statue, of freeing Atomos, and of meeting new races (new to Rond that is). He also thinks of the hope he has, that the people of the Hamlet will be left alone after this ceremony is done.

Sedar
Tuesday October 3rd, 2000 9:10:06 PM

Seeing the stranger join in the ceremony, he resumes his own immersion into this great magic. He remembers his long road alone through his times schooling in his arts. His delight in seeing the odds of fortune ebb back and forth. The great freedom of chance and change. The faces of friends and opponents, recent and past.

Damocles
Tuesday October 3rd, 2000 10:04:58 PM

Damocles seems awed by this interesting ritual, trying to leave the area of the worshippers as the ritual is unknown to him. He watches, interested, not knowing what to expect.

K'isst (Kim)  d20=18
Wednesday October 4th, 2000 12:48:45 AM

Suddenly, K'isst opens her eyes and sits up, looking around for the next attack. Seeing none coming, she resumes her participation in the event, first thinking to herself, "I've really gotten edgy lately."

Dm (pretty colors)
Wednesday October 4th, 2000 8:47:30 AM

Just as the voice starts to fade from your mind, an explosion of color erupts from the sentinal statue and streams of rainbow colors pour forth and divide and divide again until there are enough that one strikes each person bathing them in color. As the rainbows strike a feeling of extreme well being comes over each of the people in the ampitheatre, followed by a giving and taking of strength. Just as you all feel like you are about to explode, the beams of color pull back from you even brighter than before and slowly retreat to the sentinel, waving rhythmically as they return. Just as the last rainbow is reabsorbed you all return to full awareness and notice that the sentinel statue is full of vibrance and all but looks alive. Also you notice that the Sentinel Head that you returned is now hovering 3 inches above its cradle. All this takes but a moment and you once again hear the voice. "The pact is renewed as are we, Go forth in renewal and know that the cycle begins anew." At the very moment the voice disappears, you hear the two priests chant, "Let it be so, as we are renewed so is life and as life is renewed we go forth."

Just then you hear a loud unbelievably painful roaring scream and there as you look up, fifty feet off shore, are a dozen very angry and pained dragons. They stare at you and the statue for several moments and then as one they turn and fly back over the ocean and disappear. After the dragons leave there is almost a celebratory feel to the air and the citizens start cheering and quickly file out as they head for the post ceremonial celebrations, leaving the party and the newcomer alone on the beach. As the people leave the sentinel's voice echoes in the minds of the party members. "You may remember what has occurred but you may not speak of it where any others of the hamlet will ever hear."

Once again you are alone on the ceremony grounds with only the new stranger left with you. Bill seems to remember seeing an individual similar to him at the Red Wyrm Inn when he was making his plea for help.

(Damocles, you were in the RWI when you heard about the goings on here and came to help and now you find no battle but a celebration instead.)

Damocles
Wednesday October 4th, 2000 2:27:53 PM

The priest walks over to Bill.

"You said you needed assitance, yes? But it appears now that everything has been righted... May Alemi be praised."
After a moment's pause...
"Ah, yes, so rude of me to not introduce myself. I am Damocles, a follower of Alemi. And who might you be? And those gathered?"
His voice has a calming, soothing effect, and the look behind his eyes show that his words do indeed have meaning to him.

Draax
Wednesday October 4th, 2000 3:44:03 PM

Draax rejoices during and after the ceremony. His mouth breaks out into a big smile as the dragons are turned away. "Boy, it is good to be alive." He hears the stranger address Bill and it answers a few questions in his mind about where Bill disappeared to. He sits down on the beach and enjoys the day. "I wonder where this place is going to take us next."

Sedar
Wednesday October 4th, 2000 8:33:53 PM

Finally sitting down. The Mage inhales deeply and slowly lets it go. "I still wonder if I made the right choice with that Ring. I wonder if we will ever cross its path again." Relaxing in the peace and quiet at hand. "I can't speak for anyone else, but I could use a nice vacation for a bit." In reply to Draax's open question.

Rond
Wednesday October 4th, 2000 10:31:09 PM

Rond revels in the left over feelings from the ceremony. He doesn't seem to respond right away to the stranger's questions.

Bill Troublefinder
Wednesday October 4th, 2000 10:45:54 PM

"Bye, Mama, Papa, Sirka, Tamos, Laila, Jenna, Rombi," Bill waves to his departing family members. "No, I can't come right away." He looks around. "Where's Skirra? Oh! Bye, Skirra! Later - I'll see you later! Promise! Yea, dragons! Our Sentinel really does a great job, doesn't he?"

Bill walks over to his friends. "See, my family came!" He watches them blend in with the crowd as it leaves. "I'll introduce ya all sometime."

The halfling smiles at the newcomer. "Thank you for coming. Damocles? Very well met. I am Bill, Bill Troublefinder." He gives a little bow, right hand across his stomach, and left hand behind his back. "And these are my friends. I'll let each one tell you a little about himself, or herself, as the case may be, you know. But their names are K'isst," he says, indicating an exotically beautiful ... elvish troglodyte (!?), "and Rond," pointing to a tall strong and lanky human fighter, "there's my friend Sedar," he gestures toward a half elf, "Draax," he nods towards a warrior with a bow, "Arien," another fellow with a bow, "and Arrisa," a female elf, clad as a ranger.

"Everyone, this here is Damocles. If you were wondering what happened to me for a while there, while we were talking with the fellow who wanted the ring, I popped on over to the Red Wyrm Inn, and asked for help." He looks at the priest of Alemi, "You're the first one to show up from there. Join us as we celebrate. Then I'm gonna sleep for about a week!" he says, rubbing his eyes in an exaggerated fashion.

But then, looking with admiration at the Sentinel Head, now radiating power, Bill sits down next to Draax on the beach, and invites his friends to do the same.

Serious now, Bill says, "We need to talk a bit about what has happened before we join our village." He picks up a handful of sand, and lets it drift through his fingers.

"I pledged to bury Borbo, and the rest of our friends, here in Windhorn. Now I don't know where they are to bury. Are they alive? If so, why didn't we see them here today? No, I think they gave their lives. And, in the end, it was not in vain." A sad smile rests on Bill's lips, and he is quiet for a bit as he listens to his companions.

DM Kent (missing old friends and meeting new)
Thursday October 5th, 2000 8:13:25 AM

As the crowd disperses and the party mills around meeting Damocles, you all notice several things. First, all the seadevil bodies are gone and except for the stray weapon or so there is little sign of the battle. As you gaze around towards where the dragons disapeared, you see several, (about 8) 3 - 6 ft tall figures standing with their backs to you at the far end of the beach facing the deep water.

Arrisa
Thursday October 5th, 2000 6:13:29 PM

Arrisa was sitting alone in quiet contemplation. She didn't know what the ritual was about, and so just sat, watching. She also put her armour back on. Arrisa stood and wandered over to Bill when he beckoned them. It seemed that she was the only one not overly affected by the fatigue of the past few days. But, she had to admit, Sedar's idea of a short vacation appealed to her. Then, she noticed the standing figures. Arrisa stood up and slapped her quarterstaff back into her hands. "I'm getting tired of everything trying to fight us now. Especially those damn Sea Devils." She regarded the figures cautiously, waiting to see what they do.

Draax
Thursday October 5th, 2000 7:39:36 PM

Draax waits for Bill to finish the introductions and then he extends his hand to Damocles. "Pleasure to meet you Damocles, welcome to Windhorn Hamlet. You just missed one hell of an adventure. I am so confused with everything that happened I kind of wish that I had missed it too." Draax pauses for a minute and then nods to himself as if he came to some agreement. "I need to take back that last statement that I made back. I would not have missed this one for the wold." He looks down at the beach and see the 8 figures facing the water. He stands up and points in their direction. "Maybe I spoke to soon, I wonder what that is all about. With my luck I will probably find out." He readies his bow, but keep the arrow pointed toward the sand and waits to see what happens.

K'isst (Kim)
Thursday October 5th, 2000 9:52:26 PM

Due to the power of the ceremony, the sleepiness in K'isst's eyes disappears. She nods at Damocles with a pleasant expression on her face. "Hello, Damocles. Look, we appreciate your coming to help. And I don't mean to be rude. But before we go back to the village, there's something we who went through this need to discuss. Could you give us a few minutes?"

Once Damocles steps out of earshot, K'isst asks, "What, exactly, happened to the ring?"

And then she notices the eight figures. "Just leave us alone," she says quietly, clearly exasperated.

Bill Troublefinder
Thursday October 5th, 2000 9:56:44 PM

Bill, wanting to soften the request K'isst made of Damocles, says, "Yeah, sorry, it'll just be a minute. Don't worry." At K'isst's question, Bill turns to Sedar. "You mentioned the choice you made with the Ring?" He checks the bandage made by Ira in the Red Wyrm Inn.

Rond
Thursday October 5th, 2000 10:16:46 PM

Rond nods his head in acknowledgement when Bill indicates him (looking like a Ranger ;)). "What is this Red Worm Inn?" he asks Bill. "It seems that we just sort of keep jumping from one thing to the next." When the 8 figures seem to appear, Rond mutters, "Speaking of which."

Damocles
Thursday October 5th, 2000 10:55:41 PM

"Surely fair lady." Says Damocles, smiling brightly to K'isst "Whatever your needs are, I am merely here to help."
Damocles walks a few steps away and looks to the figures on the beach with greater scrutiny, placing a hand on his flail as he does so.

Sedar - Ring Giver
Friday October 6th, 2000 1:07:38 AM

"Well Bill, I'm concerned about the choice of giving it. I saw all the death about and became disheartened. Many of us were ... well ... not in very good shape to do anything. I couldn't see any think of any options, except for the promise to bring everyone back to life. It carried a lot of weight in my decision. ..... But why would one of such great power desire with that ring. How much more power will it give him. I wonder if the short term gain .... of this hamlet's safety .... may in some way effect a greater burden. .... it worries me."
Lastly seeing the peoples in the water, he pays them little heed. Sitting down, the Mage muddles through his own grey thoughts about the future.

Arien
Friday October 6th, 2000 1:10:26 AM

With a huge yawn Arien sits back up and stares around in a sort of daze. Being an elf helped but he was still a far cry from being rested. He sees the figures but it doesn't really register and he lays back down and dozes some more.

Bill Troublefinder
Friday October 6th, 2000 1:34:39 AM

Answering Ranger Rond ;), the hobbit says, "Oh, it's a great Inn, in Plateau City. 'Bout a hundred miles away! And, get this - you can get to it in your dreams, and you can get to it in real life. I have this theory about traveling in dreams. Goes like ... well, we maybe can talk about that later. Oh, and it's W-Y-R-M, the Red Wyrm Inn. Wyrm means dragon!"

He listens carefully to Sedar's thoughts. Bill stands, walks over and puts his hand his shoulder. "When I tried to teleport away with the ring, and it stayed behind, keeping the tip of my finger," and here he holds up his left index finger, "I knew there was little hope of keeping it from the Dark Lord, regardless of what we tried. Ya know, on the one hand, he's probably gonna do somethin' terrible with it." Bill looks toward the village. "On the other, I sure am glad to have my family, and our town, back. I don't trust that fellow, but I have to say thanks for keeping his word on this one. Least it seems he has." He takes a ring off his right ring finger. "I took this from you, Sedar. For a diversion, I guess. Thanks for letting me borrow it." He hands the ring back to the half elf.

Bill gives a last squeeze to his friend's shoulder, and then turns toward the eight. "Anybody who wants to rest up a bit more, just take it easy," he says, looking enviously at Arien. "Anybody wanna come and say hi to those guys, I'm goin' to now." He walks until he's even with Damocles. "Know 'em?" Bill looks to see if they look like the grey riders he saw back in Plateau City.

Sedar
Friday October 6th, 2000 2:20:45 PM

Accepting the ring back from Bill T, "Thanks Bill, we will just have to wait and see." He places the ring back on his hand. 'Wonder what these rings' abilities are,' as his thoughts shift to the items he received from Atomos. 'Time to find out what there are.'

Draax
Friday October 6th, 2000 5:04:12 PM

Keeping his bow ready, Draax walks up until he is even with Bill and Damocles. "I will come with you, for some reason I am not even a little bit tired. I only slept for about a few minutes on top of the head, but I feel like I slept for almost half a day. I want to know who/what they are and if it is going to mean trouble or not."

DM (kent)
Friday October 6th, 2000 10:18:49 PM

As Bill and Draax join with Damocles and look toward the figures. The eight figures don't seem to have moved although they seem to be farther on land than they were just a few moments ago. The hubbub of the towns folk has faded into the distance. You are effectively alone in the area.

K'isst
Friday October 6th, 2000 10:25:34 PM

"Halt! Who goes there? State who you are and your purpose here!" K'isst's temper is definitely short. Her fatigue is not just of body, but also of spirit. She strides forward toward the strangers. "Let's get this over with."

Bill Troublefinder
Friday October 6th, 2000 11:24:59 PM

Bill comments to Damocles, "She is our chief diplomat." He walks forward as well.

Damocles
Saturday October 7th, 2000 1:39:31 PM

The priest nods and advances towards the figures, staying a bit back and readying his sling, just in case the group is hostile.

"Does she make diplomacy with her tongue? Or with her blade?" inquires Damocles to Draax.

Arien
Saturday October 7th, 2000 2:37:54 PM

Startled out of his reverie by shouting Arien looks over to see the party approaching a group of strangers. Groaning to himself Arien pushes himself off the ground, reluctantly grabs his bow and starts walking after the others.

Draax
Saturday October 7th, 2000 3:02:35 PM

Draax moves forward with the others, he smiles at Damocles' question. "Both, I have seen both her tongue and blade be equally as deadly." With a big grin he states. "She tends to talk to them as she cuts them in half."

Arrisa
Sunday October 8th, 2000 3:31:43 AM

Arrisa continues to watch the figures in the distance. Somehow, they had crept on land without her noticing. She continued to watch them while the others greeted the new person

Sedar

DM Kent (Reunited??)
Sunday October 8th, 2000 8:40:36 PM

As K'isst and the others come up to the figures, they notice two things. First they appear to be paying no attention to you what so ever and haven't even turned around to face you. And secondly, upon closer inspection they appear to be made of white marble. From the rear all you can tell about them is that the figures are all of humanoid shape ranging from just over two feet all the way to over six feet.

In front of the eight figues, on the sand and being lapped by the waves as the tide comes in, is a chest.

Bill Troublefinder

Bill runs around the eight figures, glancing briefly at the faces, astonished. He runs and jumps up to the top of the chest, and yells, waving toward the sea, "Crabmen, come back! Water elves, come back! Troglodytes, are you out there? Atomos? Thank you, everyone! Thank you, Alemi, Domi, Donyra, Teresalia, Wardd, Kerracles and, and, yoo-hoo!!!" He says, jumping up and down.

Looking at the statues and then the relative size of the party members a realization comes to Damocles' mind.
"Hmm, it appears that you have a fan club, yes? How nice of them to leave you such priceless monuments."

Rond
Monday October 9th, 2000 2:29:04 PM

With Bill's performance going on in front of him, Rond's groans in anticipation of what he finds, when he gets in front of the statues. (Expecting to see statues of all of us, he figgers) ;)

Sedar
Monday October 9th, 2000 8:19:52 PM

Watching little Bill T jump about. The mages makes his way to the newcomers quickly. "Com'on Arrisa. Something is exciting Bill again." Arriving he joins in the joy of the great gifts of gratitude. His heart grows warm at the Honor.

Draax
Monday October 9th, 2000 8:35:26 PM

Draax puts away his bow and moves near to the figures for a closer inspection. He smiles as he watches Bill running around and yelling in exciting.

K'isst
Monday October 9th, 2000 11:01:43 PM

K'isst turns on Bill to shut him up and to make him stop playing the fool in front of these intruders who are about to animate, when she hears the comment of Damocles. Her mouth drops and she stands there shaking holding her Trident. She moves between the statues and takes a look at the one that she thinks must be her image. Then she passes them by and walks out into the water. She checks to see that her other trident of water breathing is working as she walks below the surface. There she just stares at the vast underwater kingdom and cries where no one can notice. She doesn't know why exactly she feels the need for this release, but she sees pictures of those tho died, her professing her love for Bill and not understanding why, all the blood and killing, the fatigue, the deaths, her death, the joy of seeing everyone alive, the guilt that Sedar must be feeling, her hatred for this Marteaus, the ceremony. It's been a busy few days--weeks... and she'll never be the same again.

Arien
Monday October 9th, 2000 11:56:34 PM

Smiling a bit at Bill's little happy dance Arien slings his bow over his shoulder and walks over to look at the chest. He looks at the others and asks, "Well shall we?" and unless anyone speaks up he opens the chest.

DM (Confused and disappointed)
Tuesday October 10th, 2000 8:36:38 AM

Well as you all come around to the front of the statues, Bill does his happy dance and the others make assumptions about the figures (now you all know what happens when you ASSUME).

It is K'isst who on inspecting the statues, looking for herself, sees that the statues are of Borbo, Galahad, Branze, the four militia men who died, and suprisingly Ahkum, who you just realized none of you had seen since Marteus' departure.

Rond
Tuesday October 10th, 2000 11:46:04 AM

When Rond realizes what the statues are, he is stunned to silence. He inspects the statues, and observes a moment of silence for his fallen comrades, and others that have fallen during this journey.

"Ah... I apologize for my misconceptions.. it is only that from behind."
The priest pauses.
"Would you like me to perform last rites for your comrades?"

Bill Troublefinder
Tuesday October 10th, 2000 1:51:03 PM

Bill looks again back at the statues, then realizes that each of the statues is of one who gave his life. His eyes go first to the shortest of the images, and he feels a fluttering in his chest as he recognizes Borbo. There is Branze, hard headed yet brave. The bright Galahad, whom Bill wishes he had gotten to know better. And Ahkum, the cleric who joined so late. And the four militia men ... he knew them from around town, but none too well. Subdued, he steps off the chest, and walks up to the marbled likeness of his cousin Borbo Pastna, and runs his finger along the rounded cheek. Bill follows the gaze of the statues, then returns to sit upon the chest. He watches K'isst go beneath the lapping waves, then allows his eyes to focus on the waters of Dragon Bay. As he sits, a tear opens a rivulet on his cheek, dripping to his lap. After a minute or two, he looks up at his friends. "Our friends gave their vigilance and their lives. They, too, shall ever be sentinels."

Sedar the Re-poster
Tuesday October 10th, 2000 8:48:25 PM

As the half-elf reaches the statues, a deep sadness comes over him. "lost friends ... you shall not be forgotten." He places a hand on the shoulders of his lost friends (Borbo, Branze, and Galahad). "I have only known them for a short time. I am so glad to have met such great people"

K'isst
Tuesday October 10th, 2000 10:47:12 PM

Suddenly Kisst freezes as she realizes what she actually saw. She bobs to the surface and yells, "It's Borbo! It's all of them. Oh my gods! It's statues of... of...." and then she bobs below the surface. Shortly you see furious swimming and a totally drenched K'isst emerges from the sea and races to the statues. She goes straight for Branze's statue and gives it a huge hug and a kiss. She then races from one to the other doing the same thing.

Draax
Wednesday October 11th, 2000 12:09:43 AM

Of all the things that Draax expected to see upon looking at the statues, the sight in front of him was not one of them. He bows his head for a moment and then in a soft breath he says. "If only everything was as it was before the fish devils took the head. You all died fighting for the greater good and your sacrifice will not be forgotten."

Arien
Wednesday October 11th, 2000 12:53:14 AM

His attention drawn from the chest by his companions, Arien takes his first good look at the statues and realizes what they are. He gravely faces the statues and in elvish says, "Friends, companions and brave souls, may your rest be peaceful and undisturbed. May the blessings of the gods go with you."

K'isst
Wednesday October 11th, 2000 7:26:26 PM

K'isst tears herself away from the statues and runs to Sedar burying her head in his shoulder and feeling totally overwhelmed with the emotions of this day.

Dm (Endings? or Beginnings?)
Wednesday October 11th, 2000 7:49:07 PM

As you all celebrate and mourn your fallen comrades and you successes and run the gamut of emotions, Arien noticed that there was a note lying on the top of the chest.

The chest is small, and made entirely of a material similar to the statues. It is roughly 20 inches long, 10 inches wide and 14 inches tall. There is a golden hasp and latch on the front but no lock.

The surf is now definately incoming and the waves are washing halfway up the chest.

Sedar the Hugged
Wednesday October 11th, 2000 7:51:47 PM

Caught off guard by K'isst's sudden show of emotion (so different from her usual anger), the half-elf holds her close. Allowing her to release those long repressed feelings. "They were great people and friends .... we will always have memories of the time we knew them. I wish them well on their new adventure .... in the heavens. ...... remember them well, for I will"

Arrisa
Wednesday October 11th, 2000 8:18:12 PM

Arrisa stands and follows Sedar. She didn't know all of the people depicted in the statues, so she simply stands by and watches, letting the group have their moment of solitude with the statues of their friends.

Draax
Wednesday October 11th, 2000 8:37:30 PM

Noticing the incoming surf, Draax will remove the note from the top of the chest handing it to which ever member is closest to him. He will then pull the chest up on to the beach.

Bill Troublefinder

Thursday October 12th, 2000 11:37:42 AM

Damocles assists Draax in heaving the chest onto shore, audibly grunting as he does so.

"Can't let this get wet, eh there?"

Rond
Thursday October 12th, 2000 1:07:34 PM

Being one of those Big people, Rond helps out with moving the chest out of harm's way from the surf.

Arien
Thursday October 12th, 2000 4:19:41 PM

Letting the stronger types move the chest Arien walks behind them, wondering at its contents.

Damocles
Thursday October 12th, 2000 7:09:00 PM

Once the chest is safely ashore Damocles inspects its opening to see if it is locked. If not, he'll crack it open, and thus hopefully reveal the mystery behind its contents.

K'isst
Friday October 13th, 2000 1:24:16 AM

"Oh Gods, I hope we get a rest after this!" She sucks it up one last time and sees the chest being moved and the note being read. "Perhaps we should take an initial look now and a detailed look once we obtain a room at an inn?" She moves to look over Bill's shoulder. Someting suddenly occurs to her. "Oh! Should we move the statues further inland? Will they be carried away or covered by the tide?"

Bill Troublefinder
Friday October 13th, 2000 12:06:54 PM

"Good idea, K'isst. I mean, ideas. If we can move the statues, let's do it. But if they are fixed solid somehow, then we don't want to snap them off their foundation." Bill rereads the note to himself, ready to share it with the rest of the group once he can make out what he's read.

"Maybe someone can dig down and see if it's attached to anything. If it's not, we can put some rope around the thicker parts low down, and work together. It's gonna be heavy." Bill pauses to think for a moment. "But, say, wouldn't you think that whoever put it here was wise enough to make sure it was placed right where it was supposed to go?"

Rond
Friday October 13th, 2000 12:57:54 PM

"I would tend to bet that they can be moved, since I'm assuming they were moved here". Rond will co-ordinate with the lifters, to try to get the chest and all the statues at least further up the shore, if not putting the statues around the head.

Bill looks up at Rond, and is both genuinely impressed with his tall friend's common sense in the matter, and nonplussed that he didn't figure this out himself. "Say, I'll bet you're right, Rond. Why didn't I think of that?" Bill will assist as he is able, yet try to not get in the others' way, nor be in a position to get squished himself. (Rolled well on a strength check.)

Sedar the slight
Friday October 13th, 2000 7:56:44 PM

Be of small frame. the half-elf leaves the moving to the mighty. He smiles a Bill T's string of discoveries. "rest we need plenty of .. lets hope some comes our way." in reply ti the half-trogs' last statement.

Arien
Saturday October 14th, 2000 12:57:57 AM

"I think perhaps that we shall be given a small break before the next adventure calls out to us Sedar, somehow it always seems that thats how it works. As for those statues I would guess that they be too heavy for the tide to take so perhaps we should enlist the aid of any villagers willing to help us. I imagine that the guard would be interested as well as four of their number be here. I suggest that we place them around the sentinel's head and let them guard, what they perished to guard in life, forever more."

DM Kent
Saturday October 14th, 2000 1:29:51 PM

Bill reads the letter, the chest is moved, Damocles peers inside the chest and several people talk about and attempt to move the statues.

The statues are found to be extremely heavy and while you might get them tipped over, carrying them would be out of the question without block and tackle and wagon, and reseating them would be a major undertaking. As you all ponder this you finally realize that the statues are facing in the direction of the Sahaugin's Island.

(Bill's and Damocles' discoveries are being emailed.)

Damocles
Saturday October 14th, 2000 8:52:09 PM

"My... this is... *QUITE* Alarming." states the priest, opening the chest fully for all to examine the contents within.
"Are you sure these are meant for you? Perhaps we should inquire as to recent shipwrecks... these might belong to someone."
ponders Damocles, wondering why someone would leave an entire chest of gems lying around.

Bill Troublefinder
Sunday October 15th, 2000 4:36:36 PM

"Hey, hey, listen! Listen, everybody. This is from Atomos, the huge giant! Wow! 'In truth be found your safety.' What a great motto that would be!" Bill looks up at his friends. "Okay, okay, I'll read it. This is what he says:

'To the Heroes of the Hamlet:

'Thanks to you and your timely rescue, I am free to roam again. The Sahuagin threat has been neutralized for the time being and Sekola is fled, unfortunately before I could find him. I know somewhat of what you have faced and what you may face again when you get home. That you are reading this, is a sign that all is not totally lost. Be aware that the great sacrifice made to save those that mean all to you, while seemingly to have possible horrifying consequences, was meant to be. Do not fret over that which you have no power over. In the chest is a small token of thanks from me and mine. Use it as you see fit, and remember that the cause of good is often its own reward. I see fearful times ahead for you, but be true to each other and you will prevail.

'In Truth be Found Your Safety,

'Lord Atomos'"

Bill again looks up, serious now. "Do you hear that, Sedar? K'isst? Do not fret. Friends, do not fret. Let us be true to each other." And he hands the letter to Sedar.

Turning to Damocles, he says, "Lord Atomos already gave that to us, but we could not take it at that time." And to the group, "I believe the images of our companions will now stand as sentinel against the sahuagin. This will require some care in the telling to a few select people, for we dare not, as the Sentinel told us, reveal all that has transpired. But let me talk with Capt. Bearclaw, to give enough to satisfy his curiosity as to the statues, and the treasure, but not enough to cause harm. I shall simply let him know that something happened, 'last night,' but honor the intent of the Spirit of the Sentinel. May wisdom be granted all of us." Bill then, perhaps a bit incongruously, peeks at the open box of treasure.

"Come," and a smile returns to Bill's face, "Let's go rejoice. The Sentinel is renewed!"

Draax
Sunday October 15th, 2000 6:29:50 PM

Draax looks inside the chest and although the content looks familiar at that moment he could not remember where he had seen it. As Bill reads Atomas' letter it all comes back to him. He smiles at the fact that giving the ring away did more good than bad. "Yeah, I think a little celebration is well over due."

Sedar of Lifted Spirits
Sunday October 15th, 2000 6:51:32 PM

The Mage reads the letter to himself again. "thanks Bill T." Acknowledging the little fellows concern. "I feel much better about things now. Not terrific mind you, but much better." A weight seems the be lifted from the half-elf's heart as he makes his way back to the town for a much needed rest. "eat and sleep for a week, I think" adding as a after thought, in a whisper to himself. 'still have some items to figure out'

K'isst
Sunday October 15th, 2000 7:38:59 PM

Smiling a genuine smile for the first time in a long time, K'isst turns to Sedar and says, "Amen, Sedar. Amen." Then she turns to Damocles. "Sir Damocles, seems this treasure of gems is...ours! So, Sir Damocles why don't you join our little band and help us spend it?" K'isst's face lights up like a school-girl as she turns on the others and says, "I've always wanted to visit a big city. Now we have the means and what a better place to relax and have some fun?....after sleeping that is. What do you guys think? Floating City? Lankhmar? Plateau City?" She grabs a handle on the chest and says, "To town then and an inn with a soft bed!" She takes off helping to pull the chest.

Rond
Monday October 16th, 2000 11:37:18 AM

"Do you think it might be worthwhile to include Hiram Veil, or instead of Capt BearClaw? He would be more inclined to not disbelieve certain magical aspects of our story, depending upon how far you wanted to go?!"

Damocles
Monday October 16th, 2000 1:42:38 PM

"I would be honoured to do so Lady K'i... K'i.." the priest appears to be a bit puzzled "That's quite a tongue-tumbler... Lady K'isst.." he smiles for a moment, apparently pleased with his ability to finally spit the name out. "Quite honoured indeed."

"What if you were to tithe some of the gems to a local missionary. I'm sure I could use my contacts in the church to find a place where that money would be sorely needed... But it is your to do as you wish." states the priest, reluctantly.

Bill Troublefinder
Monday October 16th, 2000 3:46:32 PM

"Ronderiadshal, that is a wise recommendation. See, our prayers are being answered already! Hey, Rond, why doncha give K'isst a hand with that chest, there," Bill suggests. "Wait, who's got that bag? You know, that holds lots of stuff, that Atomas gave to us? What say we see if the chest will fit in that? Draax? Sedar? Arien? Arrisa? Who here has it?"

As he waits to see who comes up with the bag of holding, Bill answers Damocles, "Certainly, the church of Alemi ought to have a share of the tithe, as well as Domi, and Donyra, and Wardd, and Teresalia, that I can think of." He waits to see if any others care to add to this suggestion.

Monday October 16th, 2000 11:06:35 PM

Outrightly chuckling at the idea of a band of travelers hauling a chest full of gems into an Inn. What would be the odds of be refused rooms for the night. 'Wardd I think the odds are with us today.' Then to the Innkeeper, "Time for a room and a good night's rest. A big bed will do just fine." After say good night to his friends and settling into bed. The Mage will pull out those four items he recovered from Atomos, (3 Rings and a Dragon headed dagger) and carefully inspect them. Then safely putting them away with his books he falls fast asleep for what seems like the first time in months. "ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ"

Draax
Tuesday October 17th, 2000 12:28:31 PM

Draax looks at everyone is the group especially Bill, K'isst, Rond, and Sedar. "Before we go anywhere or give donations to everyone, I have a question." He looks down at the water breathing ring on his finger. "Ok, after the head was stolen we borrowed these items from various members of the town. Telling them that we will pay them for them or return them when we are done. Now, since that the head was never stolen, did we actually borrowed these items or do the people who own the items still have them? Do we need to return them or pay for them or did the turn of events created duplicates?" Draax takes out the Bag of Holding (I did say that I will take whatever everyone else did not take and no one said that they was taking the bag) and hands it to Bill. "Here you go Bill." Draax waits to see if anyone else can figure out what to do about the water breathing devices.

Rond
Tuesday October 17th, 2000 1:49:05 PM

"We have much to do, and for the time, a reprieve from any pressing engagements. Remember, we just borrowed these the other day, so I doubt they will be missed just yet (referring to our water breathing stuff). I would say let's go to the Inn, put all the unaccounted stuff, in stronghold (safe location) at the Inn, get rested, and start tackling all this stuff tomorrow. There might be some information that we don't know, that we might have to come upon. Now that I think about it, we might be able to get the militia to watch our stuff for the night, or something similar. Though, that in itself, might not be a good idea, since this chest came outta nowhere. Hmmm the webs we weave." As Rond works with K'isst to move the chest to its new resting place.

Bill Troublefinder
Tuesday October 17th, 2000 1:56:56 PM

"Thanks, Andraaxius," Bill says as he takes the bag of holding. He looks inside to see if there is anything already there. If so, he takes it out. "Okay, let's see if the chest will fit inside." He works with the others to check it out. "Let's take a few coins and gems each for now, put 'em in our pockets or pouches, then keep the rest in here 'til we have a better chance to look it over." He takes a hobbit-sized handful, including a couple gems and a few coins. He hands the bag (with chest inside if it fits) back to Draax.

Addressing Draax's first question, Bill says, "I'll bet that they'll want them back. Some are lost. The cloak that Branze wore is damaged. How about if one of us return one of the items, and see how that goes? I'd be a little surprised if there were two of each item. Say, maybe K'isst can go up to that fisherman and say, 'Do you have that trident that allows you to breathe underwater?' And if he says, 'No, I gave it to you,' or something, then we'll have an idea what to do. And Ronderiadshal, you're right, we should be able to think through some of these things better after a good night's sleep."

At the Inn, Bill asks who'd like to share a room with him. Yet, despite his sleepiness, he wants to take at least a little time before he goes to bed to join the celebrating town, just looking at all the people, appreciating very much the fact that they are alive, and he can get to know his friends and neighbors even better.

Bill finds that the chest is not going to fit into the bag, unless he really forces it.

As a group you arrive at Grog's and as you wander in you see Fist, Grog's bouncer and Bartender sitting at the bar talking with the cook Matilda. At K'isst's and the other requests for rooms, Fist looks up, a puzzled and confused look on his face.

"Why you needs mow rooms? Rooms you hav no good nuff? You be paid for thru day, plus morrow after. You knows dat." He looks at all the stuff that the group is carting around. Bill doesn't force the fit, then.

"Hi, Matilda. Hi, Fist. Don't worry. Rooms are great." Bill climbs up onto a stool. "Yeah, I'm going to the party. Hey, there gonna be more pies tonight? I gotta have some pieces of pie later. Maybe one now, more later. Got some?" He lets the others figure out what to do with the chest, and decide whether they want to come. But he asks Damocles, "You want to meet some of my friends here in town? By the way, what was that tune you were whistling? Are there words to it?"

Hearing the group talk about a city, Arrisa simply shuddered. She wasn't too thrilled at the prospect of going into the village. Going into a city would prove even more daunting for her. She simply sighed and followed the others to the Inn, hoping that a room was ready for her as well... and keeping quietly to herself as usual.

Bill finishes his piece of pie (if there was any), then heads out with Damocles and whoever else comes, to join in the celebrations, to honor the Sentinel, the militia, the leaders and the people of Windhorn Hamlet. On the way, he tells Damocles, "That's interesting. Heard someone else whistle the same tune recently... Ah, there's ..." and Bill gives the cleric of Alemi a little tour, and introduces him to his family and friends, and raises a toast (and pays for one round of drinks) to the militia who fought so well, and to those who gave their lives for our freedom and safety, and to the good gods who watch over this sweet, rowdy, homely little town. "Good morn, er, afternoon good council," Bill says in greeting. "Hope we don't disturb you by having an afternoon snack." He again spends some time inspecting the items that he recovered from Atomos, seeking to discover any hints of their nature. As time passes he eventually makes his way down for a very late morning snack. Paying little heed to the gathering. He relaxes. Happy that there is no need to rush around. Whispering to himself, 'Going to need time to study some spells today. It would be nice to find the local sage to perhaps purchase some more.'

Draax
Thursday October 19th, 2000 2:37:59 AM

Getting out of bed, Draax thinks to himself, 'Maybe I will go have another look at the assorted magic weapons and items that was for sale in the other time line, especially with our newly acquired wealth'. As Draax comes down stairs from his room and see the council sitting around the fire, he lets out a low moan. He said in a voice that is as low as a whisper. "I hope that this is good news." He puts on a smile and nods to the council as Bill introduces the new members.

Arien
Thursday October 19th, 2000 8:01:11 AM

After rising early and studying for a bit and memorizng a new batch of spells Arien heads down to the common room, led by his growling stomach. While he wanders about snacking and greeting folks he tries to catch what the council is discussing.

Rond
Thursday October 19th, 2000 10:32:00 AM

Rond rolls, and stretches, and leisurely heads down to the common area. When he sees the gathering of heads, he mumbles to himself, "When will I have to stop thinking so much?"

Arrisa
Thursday October 19th, 2000 8:39:02 PM

Arrisa wanders downstairs in the morning. She looks around and simply nods in greeting to everyone that she knows. Looking around, she tries to find somewhere quiet where she can sit. Inspecting her wounds from yesterday, she makes a mental note to see a cleric before they head off to their next destination...

K'isst (Kim)
Friday October 20th, 2000 2:07:25 AM

[OOC: Jerry left word in the RWI that he is feeling ill, and asked for help posting tonight.]
K'isst stretches her muscles, massages her shoulders, and kneeds her thighs. She sits on the edge of the bed for a few minutes, wondering whether by the act of leaving her room, she'll be destined to face yet more obstacles and opponents. *'Of course I will,'* she tells herself, then, smiling, shrugs her shoulders. "'Least I got a good night's sleep." She descends the stairs, breathing deeply of the savory smells filling the area. "Good day, all." She takes a seat, then remembers she left the chest upstairs. "Juices, please," she asks of the waitress, "and some of that stew." She waits to hear what council has to say.

DM (Kent)
Friday October 20th, 2000 8:49:35 AM

As the group all finally gets downstairs, they can just overhear the council discussing disturbing tidings. It seems that a burned out barn was discovered at a farm nearby that wasn't burned when the farmer left to go to the ceremony, but the ashes were already cold. Notice came from the west that a Dragon, of all things, had been sighted feasting on several head of cattle. And that several residents have discovered that they are missing individual magic items. The main complainer being a river fisherman named Lief who it seems is missing his trident. No clear consensus is arrived at and they start to adjourn as you all approach.

Damocles
Friday October 20th, 2000 11:08:15 AM

"Intriguing indeed..." mumbles the priest. He whispers to Bill beside him, "Is this work by your hand? Perhaps you should return the things that you have surreptitiously borrowed? Alemi frowns on thievery..."

K'isst the "white liar"
Friday October 20th, 2000 12:48:32 PM

K'isst looks at Bill with a totally straight face and then smiles. "What was it that you said was missing again kind sirs?" She ticks off her fingers as they repeat the list. "This is truly strange. See these items were included in a treasure chest that was left for us on the beach near the new statues of our fallen comrades. We recently took a trip under the sea to infiltrate the Sahuagin Lair that is nearby and the Crab Men and a huge sea giant sent us this reward as well as the memorial for our friends. I don't know where the items came from, but since they fit exactly the description of what you have that is missing, consider it our donation to the wonderful cause of dealing with the damage done by the nearby Sahuagin attack. If you like, we can go upstairs and get these items for you to return?" If they say yes, K'isst motions to the party and they do this.

Bill Troublefinder
Friday October 20th, 2000 3:27:04 PM

Bill, mouth full from a big bite, nearly chokes when Damocles implies they may have been guilty of thievery. He reaches his short arm over to try to hit himself on the back, then raises his arms up and down, his coughs mainly dying out after a few red-faced moments.

"Wro- Wrong pipe," he explains. "Swallowed wrong."

As he is recovering, K'isst weaves her mostly factual story, prefaced with a convenient fiction, and Bill decides not to take another bite. He swallows some light ale, trying to clear his throat. He ascends the stairs to play out his role in K'isst's script. Another cough echoes down the stairs.

Sedar
Friday October 20th, 2000 8:17:23 PM

The Mage's drifting thoughts are driven out as he overhears the local news. Concern of how to return such valued items without consequence. 'Perhaps just sneaking in the shadows and through a window would work.' Again he snaps back from his thoughts when K'isst trumps in with such an announcement. He scans the hamleteers to gauge their reaction. (If favorable the half-elf will retrieve the chest for the Duke, if negative reactions occur he will just sit and wait.)

Draax
Friday October 20th, 2000 9:41:33 PM

Draax frowns as he hears about the sighting of a dragon. Upon hearing about the missing items, Draax is ready to confess the whole unbelievable story, but K'isst begins her tale before he can dig himself and his comrades into a hole. He smiles until he remembers the damage to the cloak that Branze worn. He hopes that K'isst can come up with a story for that item.

Damocles
Saturday October 21st, 2000 2:14:21 PM

The priest frowns at K'isst's statement... finally he sighs. "Ah, I'm sure a good explanation of this will come with all of this will come in time," pondering aloud.

Dm Kent (final post as Kim is taking over the game)
Sunday October 22nd, 2000 10:11:32 AM

Capt. Bearclaw stands as K'isst makes her announcement, and as she speaks there is a strange look on Sidion's face, as well as Hiram Veil's. As she finishes speaking, before any hubbub can break out, Sidion steps forward and says, "Well thank you, K'isst. It certainly was a banner day when you and your group decided to stay on for the ceremony. Though I wonder how it is that there has been a dragon sighted on this side of the coast. We need to get a Message to Plateau City as soon as possible. I guess we will send several of our militia men with a message."

Turning back to K'isst. "So what are your plans my lady, now that the ceremony is over?"

Draax
Sunday October 22nd, 2000 8:50:22 PM

Hearing the word Dragon again, Draax remembers an event that happened in the last time line. He says as if to himself, but for all to hear. "I have heard that some people will mistake large eagles for dragons sometimes, and I remember hearing something about some large eagles being in the area although I cannot remember who I heard it from. I just hope that it were eagles and not dragons that were sighted."

Rond
Sunday October 22nd, 2000 10:34:17 PM

"Yes, pray tell," Rond says rather drolly. "What other words of wisdom to you have for us?" If Rond catches K'isst's eyes, he'll wink at her.

Bill Troublefinder
Sunday October 22nd, 2000 10:37:41 PM

"Well, you know how we saw those dragons at the end of the ceremony? Well, *cough*, here's what I think may have happened," Bill volunteers. "See, what with it being the day of the ceremony and all, and the Sentinel's covenant magic being kinda mostly worn out right before the ceremony, maybe the dragon somehow, *cough-cough*, managed to sneak in just a little before we had the ceremony, and ate the cows or whatever. But, I'll bet a silver piece - well, Mama told me not to gamble, but it's just a silver, you know - that the dragon got kicked out again once the ceremony was over. What do you think?" he asks the council members.

Bill takes a sip of ale, his throat still somewhat irritated. "Oh, oh!" the halfling interrupts, "maybe the sahuagin and the dragons had some sort of deal goin', like," and here he switches to a high, screechy sahuagin-like voice, holding himself in the posture of the evil amphibians, "'We go steal-steal the Windhorn head,'" then in his own voice, "say the sea devils to the dragons. Then the dragons say," and here Bill lowers the register of his voice, and spreads out the words, emphasizing the silibants. His head goes back, and he attempts to look imperious. "'Sssso, do thissss and we will invade the landzzzz, and give you a sssmall ssshare of the treazhurezzz.'" Bill shrugs, and in his own voice concludes, "But, they didn't get the head. And it's our duty, the duty of the citizens and leaders of Windhorn Hamlet, to see they never succeed."

Sedar the Worried
Monday October 23rd, 2000 12:53:04 AM

Jumping in as the council ask the half-trog that last question. "I think we all are just going to relax for a few weeks or so." With a worried tone he thinks she may volunteer them all for some sort of immediate mission. "I have some of research to catch up on before I'm ready to go anywhere," adding in a hoarse whisper under his breath, 'not to mention some wealth to spread and spells find.'

Arien  d6=6 d4=2
Monday October 23rd, 2000 1:40:45 AM

"Yes well a good rest never hurt anyone did it now? Oh and about those magic items." Arien pulls the dolphin pin (brooch?) out of a pocket, tosses it in the air a few times before depositing it in the hands of the nearest council member. "I believe that that particular one belongs to a certain witch type lady, I'm sure she'll be glad to have it back." (Rolls were for hp.)

Arrisa  d10=9
Monday October 23rd, 2000 2:21:15 AM

(OOC: Roll was for HP)

Arrisa lets out a slight sigh, listening to plans being made to visit the city. 'I hate cities, but I guess I am going to one...' she quietly thinks to herself. Deciding food and drink would be a good idea, Arrisa orders some stew and water, smiling slightly when Sedar mentioned taking a few weeks off. It seemed like a good idea to her...

Damocles
Monday October 23rd, 2000 5:00:12 PM

"Heh... out of the boredom of one city and into the tedium of another, eh? Ah well, it shall give me ample time to read up on the laws I suppose... if nothing else."

Draax  d10=8
Monday October 23rd, 2000 10:05:25 PM

(OOC: Roll was for HP)

Yeah, a little rest would be nice. We can take the time to resupply and upgrade a few of our items.

Council Adjourns (DM Kim)
Tuesday October 24th, 2000 2:22:14 AM

"Eagles?" one councilman echoes. "Hain't heard of no one talkin' 'bout no eagles round here for a little while." Another one says, "Oh, yes, there's a pair over by the ridge a ways north of here." The first says, "Right, and they been a-eatin' cattle?"

Bill's disquisition on the hypothetical agreement between sahuagin and dragonkind gets another riled up. The earlier man says, "Hmmm, mebbe makes some sense. Where'd you learn to speak those devil & dragon tongues, Bill?" The man who mentioned the eagles out north nudges him with his elbow. "He doesn't speak dragon. He is just trying to figure out ..."

Sidion waves an arm toward the adventurers, and interrupts the speaker. "Let us thank this good group. Obviously they are in need of rest and refreshment. And let us now adjourn, for we all have work to do, right, Hiram? Captain, I'll trust you to assemble a small group to serve as emissary to Plateau City."

When Arien tossed the dolphin pin in the air, Capt. Bearclaw's eyes narrowed briefly. The councilman to whom Arien gave the item passed it on to the captain.

Hiram nods to the mayor, and the assembly breaks up, with various small discussions ongoing as people leave.

The sagacious Hiram Veril sits for a few moments, staring into the fire. Once the council is gone, he approaches the party. "Yes, K'isst, the return of the items - whatever happened - would be appropriate. If you would like to take a few minutes, Bearclaw is waiting outside for them." He looks at the group. "Some of you I've just met." He smiles and says to the newcomers, "Welcome to our little town. Some I've known for a few days. And some for years, now. Your ... insight into the coming attack was useful. Perhaps, as you catch your breath, get some rest, you'd be willing to tell a smaller audience more details." Looking at Sedar, Draax, Bill, and Rond, he says, "I believe you know where to find me." With a serious look on his face, he gives a wink, and turns to go.

Shopping Time? (DM Kim)
Tuesday October 24th, 2000 2:28:50 AM

It is roughly half-past three in the afternoon. Rest, acquisition, research have all been mentioned as desirable goals. Go ahead and indicate planned actions for the balance of the next day and a half.

K'isst
Tuesday October 24th, 2000 10:38:24 PM

K'isst frowns at Damocles, and says, "This is just a village. Maybe several hundred on an average day. Plateau City is a city! Thousands of people! Parades everyday! I heard there are usually more than 100 adventuring groups there at any time. I've always dreamed of going to one." She turns to Bill and the others. "Can we?"

"If so, we can shop there! That would be cool! There's a magic castle that is a shop there where you can get any type of potion there's ever been! There's this place called the Red Wyrm Inn that is also a castle! At least that's what I heard..." She kinda trails off realizing that some may not be excited about such a venture.

Damocles
Wednesday October 25th, 2000 12:06:31 AM

"I was just at the Red Wyrm Inn before I came here... ::sighs:: I suppose that we could go back. It is the will of Alemi that so guides me I suppose." Damocles shakes his head for a moment, and then goes up to his room, returning moments later with his backpack. "Well, I'm all packed... I suppose I shall go visit the local shrine unless you all desire to leave immediately?"

Arien
Wednesday October 25th, 2000 12:40:04 AM

Arien tries to rest some more but that large pile of wealth keeps nagging him until he finally gives up hope of resting. Getting up Arien wanders around looking for Sedar, when he finally finds the mage he gets right to the point, "What do you say that we get together and figure out just exactly we got in the way of loot?"

Bill Troublefinder  d20=10
Wednesday October 25th, 2000 2:49:19 AM

Bill smiles at K'isst's description of what she's heard of Plateau City. "Yes, we should go there, soon. But I need to take care of a few things here before we leave. How 'bout next month?" Then he sees K'isst's face fall. "It's just, I want you, uh, you all, to meet my family before we go. But maybe we can leave sooner than a month. What say we stay at least a few more days, and then, say, no more than a week, go there?"

To Damocles, the Windhornian halfling says, "If you find a place tedious, you might ask yourself the question, 'Is it this place that is tedious, or do I simply carry boredom within my soul?' My father told me that 'boredom is the symptom of a moral problem at worst, and a lack of imagination at best.'" Then Bill gets a smile on his face, "'Course, that was after I told him I was bored of him just sitting there watching the garden and smoking his pipe." But then, more seriously, "But he did teach me to try to find what was interesting about any place, and any person."

He looks at Damocles' backpack. "Hey, friends, shall we give two and a half percent of whatever Sedar and Arien count up for Damocles to figure out how to tithe, and maybe another two and a half percent for him personally? Why? Because Damocles answered our request to help, and I think it'd be good for him, who is willing to fight for the good, to join in with us."

"We should set aside some for the Pastna family, too. Does anyone know of the families of our other companions, and the militia? Friends, think it through, and let's try to do what is right."

Bill gives the brooch to Capt. Bear Claw, and tells him, "I believe this belongs to the Lady at the Inn of the Crystal Sphere. I wish to see her when I might, Captain, but don't wish to delay the return of this item." As he turns to go, he says, "It is good to have such valiant ones as you and your daughter watching over this town, sir," then re-enters Grog's Inn.

"We've gotta figure out what all this stuff is. Should we try that here, or in Plateau City?" the hobbit asks.

Having noted Arrisa's seeming aversion to towns and cities, he tells her, "You know, I've heard it takes almost a week of walking through the woods, and meadows and hills to get to the city."

Bill returns to his room, and successfully uses his mental powers to cause the tip of his left index finger to regrow. [OOC: Who has significant wounds, still? Bill will try to help his friends get better soon, and will ask Damocles if Alemi has given him the power to help heal.]

Bill Troublefinder
Wednesday October 25th, 2000 3:05:45 AM

K'isst the Impatient
Wednesday October 25th, 2000 3:38:40 PM

"What! We're staying here? Arrrrggggh." K'isst is very frustrated at seeing this "hometown boy" type attitude from Bill. "I didn't leave home to just stay home. My home is just over that hill and down a tunnel. I left home to LEAAAVVVVE! I want to go somewhere. Anywhere. True, I'd prefer somewhere really neat and famous, but awaaaay! Not spend two weeks at momsy and poopsie's house!" She is totally adamant about this. She pauses. "I'm going to pack." As she gets to the top of the stairs, she calls back over her shoulder. "We can divide this stuff up right quick before we leave, right?"

Sedar the Searcher
Wednesday October 25th, 2000 7:24:21 PM

Making inquiries into whereabouts of a local Mage or Sage in an effort to acquire some spells. Sedar wastes little time before rushing around. Knowing the length of time before K'isst will start making commitments for the group is indeed short.

Rond  d10=8
Wednesday October 25th, 2000 9:29:18 PM

Rond returns his magic item. (Roll is for hit points). (Will post more, but had to look back at some stuff first, didn't want to lose hp roll) ;)

Rond
Wednesday October 25th, 2000 9:35:15 PM

Rond will head out to run some errands. His first errand is to visit with Hiram Veril, and explain what he can (archives aren't accessible (at least on this website :) ), so I couldn't review what we could and couldn't tell). Rond will then sorta just wander around town, to see what has been going on. Then he'll retire for the night, to think on what has happened. He'll check in with the group in the morning, to see what the split is for the loot.

Rond - To find the archives, click on "GAMES" at the top of the page. Then scroll to the bottom of the page listing the games. Click on "Library" there. You'll find the archives for this and the other Woldian games. -Kim

Arrisa
Wednesday October 25th, 2000 10:06:37 PM

With a slight sigh, Arrisa stands up. "I think I'll go out into the woods for a short while. I'm more relaxed there. I can practise and be alone for a while. A day and a half? I assume today is that half." She wanders towards the door and stops for a moment. "See you all in a day or so then...." The elven lady then wanders out of the tavern, presumably to the woods...

Bill Troublefinder
Wednesday October 25th, 2000 10:44:05 PM

Bill says to K'isst, "Oh patient one, your rush to leave at the cave of the crabmen made sense." He follows her to her room. "Look, K'isst, I did some things with my mind and body that took a lot out of me. I fear if I don't rest at least for a few days, it may go poorly for me. Now, if you want to rush off, I can't stop you. But couldn't you wait just a bit longer? I want you to meet my family. And I want to be in good enough shape to face whatever it is there will be to face. And I'd just as soon be with you when, well, whatever happens."

Just before he turns to go, he asks, "K'isst, can I borrow your translation stone tonight? I can get it back to you tomorrow."

He next looks for Draax. "Say, Andraaxius, may I borrow the bag of holding tonight?"

He also looks for a few of the scrolls of water breathing.

The Loot - DM Kim
Wednesday October 25th, 2000 10:52:37 PM

In the box left by Atomos, Arien and Sedar (and anyone else checking) find the equivalent of 40,000 gold pieces in assorted gems and coins.

Draax
Thursday October 26th, 2000 12:30:49 AM

Draax will do another tour of the magical weapons shop, looking at daggers, bows and arrows.

Damocles
Thursday October 26th, 2000 3:12:13 AM

Damocles counts the coins and his 7% share...
"Amazing. 2800 gold for responding to a mere cry for help. Were only all our brethren so lucky... I shall give all but 100 of this to the church, so that they may set up several new parishes to serve those in need... perhaps some will be sent in humanitarian aid to those under Parnoth's rule..." Damocles turned to Draax. "Have you ever considered granting your services to domiciles for the desperate for a day? They could certainly use someone of your stature."
Damocles spends the rest of the time healing the party and then tending to any of those in need in the village.

Bill Troublefinder
Thursday October 26th, 2000 12:56:26 PM

"Damocles - last time I checked, two and a half plus two and a half equals five, not seven. Make that 2,000 gold pieces, assuming the rest of the party agrees," says Bill with a smile. "And, while you can do with it what you will, and your heart is very generous, I see, you may want to consider holding a bit more than 100 gp in reserve to buy, oh, healing potions or the like."

And, as he sees Damocles helping to heal his friends and neighbors, he sends a prayer to Alemi to bless His good cleric.

Bill goes to meet with the Pastna family, to tell them what he can about Borbo's death, and how, through what he did 'last night' he helped prevent an even bigger invasion of the Sahuagin, and how without him, the dragons might have destroyed the village, and how he is a hero, and how Bill will never, ever forget his cousin and friend. He mourns with them. He takes them to see the statue at the Sentinel grounds.

Bill asks if any want to come with him, and goes, if he is able, to each of the homes of the militia who were killed, and if Branze, Ahkum, or Galahad had any family in the area, he will try to contact them.

K'isst
Thursday October 26th, 2000 3:10:33 PM

K'isst grudgingly admits to her selfish self that what Bill is doing is good, but she has no taste for comforting. No one ever comforted her, except for this group that is now her family. She wasn't even allowed to grow up in her parent's house because she was a female. So she grabs her pack and leaves town, camping a mile or so on the road to Bree, hunting and fishing for what she needs and tries to practice patience. The solitude seems to do her good and help her put the events of the past few days/weeks in perspective.

Draax
Thursday October 26th, 2000 5:27:11 PM

As Draax gets ready to head to the weapons shop he turns to answer Damocles' question. "Helping others in such a direct manner is not my way. I am an adventurer, some people say hero, some say sellsword, some say mercenary, but I say adventurer nothing more, nothing less. I have never been known as a charitable person and I honestly do not wish to be known as one. I usually put my money into getting better weapons, better armor, and my time into training. I respect those of you that donate your money and time into making life better for others, but that is not my way." Draax takes his share of the money and continues on his way to the weapons shop.

Arien
Thursday October 26th, 2000 11:21:50 PM

Arien gathers together the party members that he can find and informs them of the treasure situation. "We have here an accumulated total of around 40,000 gold pieces. With 2,000 to Damocles that leaves us with 38,000 to split 7 ways. If we split it into 5,000 each that leaves us with 3,000 left over which can be sent to the families of those who lost thier lives during this ordeal. What does everyone say to that?"

Ruthat's Weapons Shop (DM Kim)
Friday October 27th, 2000 12:09:35 AM

At the weapons shop, Draax finds Ruthat, and pretty much the identical weapons and such that were there last time he checked, except that the weapons the party purchased are not there. "Welcome, welcome. How are those things I sold you?" Ruthat gets a curious look on his face. "Funny, I remember selling things to you and some of those lads who helped out the other night on the big wheel, but ... well, never mind. Oh, well done, well done at the ceremony, by the way. It was bad, coulda been worse, hadn't you all been there. Back so soon? What can I interest you in today?"

Damocles
Friday October 27th, 2000 12:18:30 AM

Damocles shrugs his shoulders in response to Bill and Draax. "There's a reason I went into the clergy rather than mathematics... And I'm sorry about your feelings Draax, perhaps with time they will change, perhaps not. In whatever way you help know that you have the blessings of Alemi." Damocles carries on into town to complete his prior actions.

K'isst
Friday October 27th, 2000 12:46:28 PM

K'isst befriends some ducks near a stream which she begins feeding daily some pieces of bread. Soon one of the uglier ones who is always picked on by the others, and usually doesn't get as much food, is eating out of her hand. She sighs, thinking, "Patience is a "good" virtue....a "good" virtue....a "good" virtue....

Draax
Friday October 27th, 2000 7:12:16 PM

As Draax enters the shop he returns Ruthat's greeting. "Thank you, your weapons are working out well for me and my comrades, I just came in to take another look at your daggers, bows and arrows." Draax smiles as Ruthat's remembers an event that happened in a different time line, but he figured that since he was missing the amount of money that he brought the sword and shield with that somehow it all would fit. Draax take his time examining the weapons, testing each one and draining Ruthat's brain dry on his knowledge of each one that Draax finds suitable.

Sedar the Spell Searcher
Friday October 27th, 2000 7:38:43 PM

"5,000 apiece .... I wonder how far that will go at the Mages guild. And as for the 3,000 left over, I say we donate that to our Local chapter of Wardd's church. They have been extremely helpful to us, even though they may not be aware of that fact." Then he moves on to find that local guild again. "hmmmm money to burn, this may be lots of fun" and the half-elf makes haste in route.

Arien
Friday October 27th, 2000 11:30:13 PM

"Eh? Mage Guild? Now that you mention it I could always use a few more spells, I'll come along if you don't mind." Pocketing his share Arien follows Sedar.

Rond
Sunday October 29th, 2000 9:58:59 AM

As the word gets spread amoung those patient party members ( ;) ), Rond will pick up his part of the treasure, leaving it in gem form.

Bill Troublefinder
Monday October 30th, 2000 8:27:31 PM

"Hmmm, some for the families, some for the temples. How about this?" Bill proposes. "250 gold for each family who lost a member in the Sahuagin attack. The rest split, 500 for the temple of Wardd - Hiram Veril is the priest there, and 500 for the temple of Mittiri - because they gave us some things that helped us on our foray against the sahuagin. If any of the eight who died do not have family, how about the first 250 to the farmer whose barn was burned, and the rest, if any, to Capt Bearclaw for training up some replacements for the militia, and equipping them?"

"There isn't any mages guild here in Windhorn Hamlet, Sedar. But in the city there oughta be! Maybe you and Arien can swap spells."

Bill goes to see the "hag" at the House of the Crystal Sphere. He tells her that he and his friends met Atomos, who told him to send his greetings to her. "He said he remembers you fondly, ma'am."

He speaks with Bearclaw about the boy, Merik Andovin. "Captain, I think he has talents that could serve this town well. But, he's prone to mischief. I'll tell you, though, he has eyes that see much and ears that hear much. And, I have a feeling that he is a survivor. Keep your eye on him, if you would, sir." Bill gives the captain 500 gold pieces. "For you and your militia, sir. You showed your mettle at the ceremony the other day!"

Just before lunch, Bill takes whoever wants to go with him to visit his family a couple miles outside of town. He introduces whoever joins him, enjoys some of his mother's cakes, and leaves behind 500 gold pieces: 100 for his father, 100 for his mother, 100 for his siblings ... and privately 200 for his mother to squirrel away, "in case of emergencies."

Ruthat (DM Kim)

Ruthat shows Draax once again his selection of daggers, bows and arrows. He has a selection of good bow strings. A compound long bow that requires significant strength to pull (18/76 or better) is available. Plenty of arrows, sheaf and flight. A larger-sized quiver, able to hold up to 36 arrows (with room for six arrows in each of six compartments) looks like it might fit across Draax's back well. Costs five times what a normal quiver goes for. Throwing daggers, a punching dagger ("Just found this in a drawer," Ruthat tells you), boning knives, spearbow arrows, fishing arrows, and eight arrows with cloth wrapped around the shaft just behind the arrowhead. "Dip that in this oil here," he says, holding up a small bladder, "light it, then shoot the arrow. Stays lit pretty well. Don't wait too long to shoot after you light it, though." (Arrows and oil: 80gp.) There is a longbow that he'll tell you, "Seems to have a little magic about it."

As Draax looks these things over, Ruthat's niece comes in and whispers something in her uncle's ear. He says, "Oh, all right. You'll have to excuse me, but I'll have to close up in five minutes. Should be back tomorrow afternoon, but won't be open for more'n an hour, say at three hours past midday."

Learning from Draax (I hope) when Ruthat is in, Bill goes in to buy 80 darts, or as many as he has, if less than 80. He figures in the city there will be more options.
