The Temple

DM (Kent).
Wednesday December 29th, 1999 7:17:30 PM

For clarity purposes, From the front gates to the back curved wall is 250 ft. The front entry way is 30 ft x 120 ft and has two towers at the juncture of the front wall and each side. Each tower has an open door that is partially off its hinges. The foyer leads to a raised platform aisle is 10 ft wide and 130 ft long and runs the length of the temple to a circular platform upon which can be seen a dark altar and a large sharklike statue. The circular platform is 60 ft in diameter and the dais upon which is the statue and altar is 30 ft in diameter. The troughs of dark, almost reddish-black water are each 20 ft wide. You can only see that there is a hammer in the statue if you are on the circular dais. The temple is fairly dark but it is lit by the stars and moon above that seem to be shining through a translucent rock dome. It is almost full dark now and it is a full moon.

As the two sea devils are hit and injured all four appear to vanish as they dive toward the water. There are however no splashes or ripples. Or for that matter, blood.

"We must work fast." (Failed voluntary perception check and thus will not do scheduled action.) She stands guard near the entrance and encourages the others to get to that altar.

Follows Triple B to the altar. "where they go ...." as he scans across the water " not even a ripple ?"

Rond
Thursday December 30th, 1999 12:51:48 PM

"I will cover your advance". While saying this, Rond is look up towards the ceiling, and then down towards the water.

Arien
Friday December 31st, 1999 4:00:49 AM

Backing away from the water, Arien scans the doorways and the water. Seeing no immediate danger he quickly draws another arrow and sets draws it. He moves to the base of the walkway so as to get a clear view of both sides. Watching Branze, Arien calls out after him. "be carefull there might be traps."

K'isst
Friday December 31st, 1999 7:43:22 AM

Nodding to Branze, K'isst moves to the western tower, Trident drawn, and looks inside, up and around. If she spots any Sea Devils, she yells and attacks.

Draax
Friday December 31st, 1999 2:35:50 PM

Halting his rush at the sea Devils, Draax is surprised to see these creatures run from a fight. He stand a little confused for a minute then decides to back up K'isst at the western tower.

Bill Troublefinder
Friday December 31st, 1999 5:37:52 PM

Bill follows the sea devil leader, leaping on to the surface of the water (on the left section of water when viewed from the entrance door), then running lightly across the surface in the direction of the circle at the opposite end of the temple, looking to see if he can see evidence of anyone or anything beneath the surface. He carries his magical sword in his left hand, a dart in his right.

DM (Kent)
Saturday January 1st, 2000 12:59:22 PM

As Branze and Sedar step onto the circular platform the is a soft chime of a bell ringing once and the silenced. In front of them they see the altar and statue. At the far side of the platform is a round dais, upon which stands a Marble statue of the shark god Sekola and a marble blood stained altar inset with manacles and chains. The statue is very old, fragile, and brittle in places. The statue is also slightly transluscent and something small and shiny can be seen in the chestof the shark. K'isst looks into the west tower and sees very little in it the towres them selves are 20 ft tall and the west one is dry there is a small cot like bed, a small desk, and a fireplace with a mantle. On the mantle are two dingy but possibly gold candle sticks. Bill notices little of consequence in the water in that because it is so dark it is almost reflective. However both Bill and Arien, notice in their scanning of the space that neither Borbo or Galahad seem to be in the temple any longer or at least they are not to be seen anywhere.

Branze Bones
Sunday January 2nd, 2000 2:40:04 AM

::looking at the statue in depth Branze figures the stains are blood. "This be an altar they sacrifice on. THe hammer be in there. Im going to smash it free. But beware there may be consequences, they may come back to defend. Or they may have gotten reinforcements." he says as he takes the hilt of his sword and begins to smash the hammer free.

Bill Troublefinder
Sunday January 2nd, 2000 10:31:10 PM

Pleased that Borbo slipped on his ring of invisibility, Bill continues clockwise around to the right side of the circle, then climbs up to the lower platform below the dais. He places himself at the north of the platform, between the shark statue and the edge of the water. His eyes glance once toward the ceiling, then sweep back and forth west, north, east, to guard against things leaping forth or reaching from the awful liquid below. In his mind he asks Alemi for help, and protection.

Sedar

moving to the shark statue. "the lord of Air said to retreive the heart and bring it back to him. " The 1/2 elf will then draw a dagger and gingerly climb the statue to try and chip its heart out.

K'isst
Tuesday January 4th, 2000 12:25:08 PM

K'isst actually moves into the tower at the north and explores it. She looks in desks, etc. for anything helpful. Since the party has already been discovered, she isn't concerned about noise. She wrecks the place, looking first to make sure there are no sea devils there to ambush us and secondly for information about the Sahuagin. She doean't keep her back to the room for long at a time, expecting those Sahuagin to regroup and surface again. "Hey Draxx. Has anyone checked the depth of the water in here yet? We should know how many could be hiding down there. They won't stay submerged long with us blocking their exit. Have Borbo and Galahad do it since they are invisible if they will." Once she has ransacked the northern tower, she does the same with the southern tower.

Rond
Tuesday January 4th, 2000 12:25:09 PM

Rond will hold his position, scanning the surrounding area.

Draax
Tuesday January 4th, 2000 12:25:10 PM

Keeping an eye on K'isst for any ambushes, Draax calls out to both Borbo and Galahad. " Borbo, Galahad wherever you are can you come over here for a second?" When Draax is sure that one of them is close he will talk in a soft voice. "K'isst suggested that while you are in your current state one or both of you explore the depth of the water and anything else you find while down there."

Galahad
Tuesday January 4th, 2000 6:29:30 PM

At Draxx's call, Galahad steps back into the temple from outside and wanders over to Draxx. "And what state might that be that you are rferring to?" As for the depth of the water I think I can find that out easily enough. Galahad then proceeds to remove a 50 ft rope from his pack, tie two iron spikes to the end and standing near one edge tosses it in the center of one of the watery channels.

At each step that Branze and Sedar take toward the statue the chime sounds, until they reach the base at which time there is one loud resounding GONG!!!!. Neither Branze or Sedar can quite reach the breast of the shark but their chipping and pounding sends sharp shards of marble flying evey which way. Several shards hit them on exposed skin areas and does 1 point of damage to each. Kisst searches the tower pretty thouroughly but in addition to the gold plated candle sticks, only a scroll and 32 silver pieces are found. As Branze and Sedar start their second set of bashing at the statue, and Galahad's rope is finally striking bottom at about 30 ft, there is a great disturbance in the water all around the circular dais as 6 sea devils erupt from the murky depths. (see map for placement and remember distances)

K'isst
Tuesday January 4th, 2000 8:23:51 PM

Not hearing anything untowards, K'isst puts the gold candlesticks in her pack and carries out the scroll for one of the mages or clerics to read. She then exits the tower on the left of the entrance and begins to head to the other one. Spotting the Sea Devils, she moves racing as far as possible towards the thieving sea devils as her legs will carry her. "Gaarrh! Holy Goddess aid me!"

Sedar

"Hi!" Bill says to the emerging sea devils, "We're returning a statutory favor." Making called shots with his darts, he aims for an eye of each of the sahuagin arrayed before him (SD1,2,3&5) hitting the first three [woo-woo!], missing #5 [woulda hit if not 'called' - btw, 'called' is at -4, right?] who ducked, for 2hp on #1, 3 on #2 and 3 on #3. Bill tries to stay alert to any hands which may reach out in an attempt to grab his handsome feet.

"Domi, freeze these devils in place so justice can be brought and what was stolen returned. ((hold person on 4 sea devils))

Draax
Wednesday January 5th, 2000 3:28:02 AM

Bill finishes #1 off as his his second dart finds its target and the the third strikes as the seadevil falls. Almost simultaneouslt #5,4 and 2 are dealt blows that literally send blood and body parts flying all over the dais covering all, on the dais including the statue, with many droplets of blood. As Bill looks for movement in the water he sees nothing...at first and then suddenly #3, that had been held, dives into the water directly out from the eastern stairs beside the dais and disapears out of sight. as suddenly as you had company you are alone again.

Bill just remembers to get back to the dais before releasing his Psionics so he doesnt splash down. "I think I can get the hammer to our big giant friend back in that cavern right away. I mean, I can, like, disappear from here, and show up there only like a second later. Then, give it to him, or tap his knee with it, or whatever needs to be done, then I can ask him to come here, and help us out with the bad guys, and meantime, you can check things out more, and find out what you can, and look for our sentinel, and ... well, that's it. Branze hands Bill the little hammer, Kisst, Arien, and Sedar dive into the water, Galahad, Rond, Draxx and Branze all ready thier water gear and step to the edge of the dais. There is a little "pop" as Bill disapears. (email info)Kisst, Arien and Sedar all notice that as soon as they get under water the water is as clear as glass, rose colored perhaps but the vision is very good. They do notice a chamber like opening in the north wall, to the east side of the dais. Those three also notice that the others have not joined them in the water as yet. There is now rubble, anywhere from pebbles to fist sized rocks, falling from the roof.In act as Rond moves up to join the group he is hit by a large piece for 2 points.

*Poof* The air around the dais pressurizes just a little bit as Bill reappears. In his right hand is the hammer. His left is holding the side of his head. "You stop it!" he yells at the damaged statue of Sekola. He makes a swing at the shark statue with the hammer, but misses entirely, seeming disoriented. "Oh," he says, turning away, "nevermind, I'll ge-*" is heard as he dives into the water amidst falling debris. He swims down a ways, looking about, and tucks the hammer within his pants (the legs of which, by the way, are tied just below his knees). He cinches his belt, then draws his new short sword.

Everyone manages to get in to the water and to the entry before the major rock fall begins although, as the last few leave the dais, they noticed that the outside 2 ft of the dais were submerged in a foot of water already as they dove in. as you get to the entry way, it is merely an opening in the wal that leads you northward down a very rectangular chutelike hallway, 10 feet across and 20 ft high. Every 20 ft or so there is a grate along the eastern side. The hallwy angles slightly downward, is totally filled with water and seems to go on for quite a ways. After having traveled somewhere about 200 ft or so the passageway ends in a stairwell that leads upward. It is kind of hard to tell the distance but it appears that somewhere along the way, the stairs exit the water and it looks like there might be some sort of small room above.

Faced with stairs and no feet Arien is in an akward situation. He swims as close to the top as possible. When he finally breaks the water he sits on one of the stairs and levers himself up stair by stair by stair until his feet are completely out of the water and return to normal.

As you manage to swim, slide scoot and walk up the stairs and leave the water behind the stairs go upward out of the water another 30 ft and end in a small 10x15 room. There is a table and 4 chairs along one side with four plates of food and beverage sitting untouched on the top. The rest of the room appears to be empty. There is a six foot opening in the ceiling 80 ft up and a single door opposite the stairs.

.....Click....The door opens easily onto a long passageway that has many twist and turns, doorways, openings and other halls, all of them though seem to be side branches of the main hallway that leads northward. Afterabout an hour or so of twists and turns the passageway abruptly ends in what appears to be raw, unhewn stone cul de sac. It is almost as if the rest of the work was never finished. There are several old rusting picks and hammers on the ground, a small barrel filled with some sort of liquid, and a small metal box with a curved lid and a handle on the top. There is a small latch on the side of the box.

As Sedar wonders about the dead end he really never lloked around the area except to look at, check out, open and inspect the lunch pail. The samdwich looks fresh and eatible and the liquid is still warm, or at least the container it is in is. As K'isst stands guard waiting, Bill is playing at being a miner(or is that minor) and he discovers the wall is quite solid. Draxx also finds that when pressed upon the wall feels like solid rock and holds him up. Arien throws pebbles at the wall and watches them bounce off and hit the floor. Branze after reviewing his spell's results tries to not believe that the wall is there and to his suprise, he realises that it really isnt there. Or at least he doesnt see it anymore. In fact as he makes this discovery he sees Bill's pick and Arien's pebbles appear to both hit the wall and bounce back and go through the open space at the same time. Second there are three levers at the base of the pillar. thirdly the head at best guestimates looks like it might weigh in the area of around 500 pounds give or take a few. Branze's spell again comes up with no traps per se, although there was a mechanical type bleep when he checked the pillar.

Remember how he disappeared yesterday for most of the day? Then just showed up on the wagon?" Then Bill covers his mouth, realizing he is beginning to babble. Yet, unable to restrain himself, he briefly takes his hand away from his mouth. "Uh, Borb is good at the type of thing you're askin', Brother Branze. Anybody else here know how to fix traps? Then she attacks s3 twice dropping her sword during the first attack and picking it up again in lieu of the second attack thus not ever closing with s3 as planned, but instead just moving to her stated position to the north of s3 and s5. K'isst let's out a scream of frustration as she fumbles around with her weapon and then is attacked by #5 as it tries to draw a nasty looking sword, but gets it caught in its sheath and the stroke, when it finally comes, happens when Kisst is bending down so totally misses her. #2 charges through the crowd and is heading toward Draxx, Arien and the head and has a trident in hand but is too far away to attack. #3, after being stuck by bill's darts gets angry and charges forgetting that he only has an unloaded crossbow in his hands. Weilding it like a club, he connects solidly and causes Bill 4 pts of damage. #4 joined #2 in its charge but veared off and is engaging Branze with its trident and was distracted by Sedar re-activation of the lever, and missed Branze badly. #1, having been ounched in the nose by drax for a point of damage ( sorry Drax I missed your weapon in hand post several back) and then being skewered by Rond's arrows, decides he should try and take out the archer and charges Rond trident lowered and ready. the only problem was he wasnt paying attention to where he was going and runs 3ft past Rond. #6 steps up to replace 1 and attacks Draxx with his mace and misses. Meanwhile Drax Found his weapon in his sheat ready to draw(sorry again) And the door is grating closed yet again.

Sedar looks at the three levers on the pillar's base and finds that they are identical in length, circumference, color, and material. The only apparent difference is that they each fit in to their own groove. Each lever is 18 inches long, gray metal and about 5 inches in circumference. The lever you all used is in the full down position the others are in a neutral middle position. As Sedar plays inspecter #13, the Sahuagin attack again and #1 again misses Rond and stares at his trident, like it is to blame for the misses. #2 continues its charge toward Sedar but being distracted by the arows that hit him misses his attempt at making the Wold's first Sedar-Que skewer. #3 Responds to Bill's complaints by missing, cursing in a tongue none can understand, and throwing his crossbow to the floor in disgust. #4 Does a quick reversal and manages to stick Branze, not once but twice, with his trident for 13 points of damage. #5, almost taunting K'iist as it dances away just out of reach of her last attack counters with her jagged sword connecting for 4 pints. #6 whirls his mace around and swings mightily at Draxx's body but manages only to hit air as he reels from the wound inflicted by Draxx. (The sahaugin are still AC 5 as posted above)

Sedar lowers the two levers and only one apparent thing happens. The pillar and the head start rising up even higher. The pillar starts to slowly move upward and by the end of the round has come to a stop at 30 ft up. Only 2 ft from the roof. #1 seems a bit wobbly, or is it a ruse as he steps up after being hit by Rond and deals a blow of his own that causes pain and 4 points of damage to the stalwart Rond. #2 taken by surprise by Sedar's ducking action, two more arrows, and the quick rising of the pillar lunges at Sedar and sends his trident out into the pool of water. The seadevil has a look in his eye like he would like to join it. #3 strikes out at Bill and misses and throws his weapon away looking like he is going to use his natural weapons on the little fellow but instead fals to one knee. #4 goes for Branze again and misses so badly that for a moment he is turned all the way around(+2 to hit Branze) #5 has a shocked look on its face as it is not only hit once but twice, by the troggish warrior princess. It recovers enough to send a strike K'isst's way but it glances off and does no damage. the Seadevil then collapses. While Sedar has his back to the fight and is facing the pillar and hence the pond, he now sees two more things. First it looks as if there is more water pouring into the room from below and there is an awful lot of other activity coming from under the surface.
