DM
Saturday January 19th, 2008 12:24:42 PM

Hey all. I delayed posting a turn as I asked the PTB to examine the situation to ensure fairness, etc. The consensus as I understand it is: "high-level games get very complicated and confusing, dragon games moreso. There are misunderstandings and mistakes on both sides, often at the same time. Dragon groups are supposed to deal with adversity and move on, expect their butt kickings, and give them right back."

That's a paraphrase of the conversation, not anyone's direct statement.

In any case, turn will be out today. I'm going to enlarge the map to show everything possible.

Part of the point in Fae Skiemir is forcing the PCs to now know what the heck is going on or where the heck they are. While I hadn't planned on explicitly stating what was intended to be a bit confusing, I'm going to simply explain the tower:

the first floor had a stairway connected to the inside wall. You walked up the stairs and where inside the room still (i.e., an open stair, one side touching the wall, one side open to the room's interior space). Hard to explain well, I hope you can envision this. The top ended in a manner of stairwell that allowed the door to open into the next room, which was directly above. This is why on that previous map the door was sideways along the wall to the 2nd floor.

From 2nd to 3rd floor, you had the same stairway: hugging the wall, but open to the 2nd floor room in its entirety. Had someone fallen, for instance, they would have landed a few feet from the forcecage holding the big spider (which is still there, btw).

Now, the next door opens outward. This was intended to simply confuse the heck out of you, but I hadn't foreseen that anyone would assume the prior space wasn't there for some reason. I guess it's had for me to predict what you'll think, and vice versa.

So, this door opens outward into another circular room. If you look, this new room is about 20 feet wider in diameter than the 2nd floor. How can this be? The tower, at its top, actually splits into 2 circular towers. THis wasnt visible from outside due to that fog and lightning you saw. So right now, you are fighting in one of two tower-tops. There would be one directly opposite this door, on the other side of the 2nd floor room. (no, there's no secret door in the 2nd floor room).

I dislike giving any of this up, but I think it's necessary because (1) there was unintended confusion and miscommuncation, and (2) I don't want you guys thinking I screwed up and you're suffering for it.

So as I said, post will come today. And as for everyone's "curiousity" questions, I welcome the private post discussions, though I cannot answer specific technical issues until after the fight. I still have a few surprises up my sleeve that I don't want to give away.

Round 4, PC Results  d20+29=37 2d6(1+2)+17=20 d20+23=33
Saturday January 19th, 2008 6:41:13 PM

Monthor screams in rage as his friend is snatched up by the demon. He flies forward, pressing his own attack against the flying Marilith.

[If you want to flank, you only get 1 attack (have to move), and you'd incur an AoO. However, your first attack roll is a hit, so attacking here or moving and only getting that first attack is the same net result.]

His first axe swing connects with the demon, taking a chunk out of her long tail. [the axe connects, but the fire damage appears to be useless]

As her tail loosens involuntarily, Arien chooses that moment to call upon his own powers, transporting himself out of her grasp and into the relative protection of a pair of enormous, furry bears.

Vedik moves to the doorway and sizes up the demon. Raising a hand, firing off a murky, greenish ray that hits the snake-demon square in the chest. [no hero point needed, it hits]

Lumi becomes enraged at seeing his friends beset, and flies forward to return the favor. The Marilith takes a swipe at him with one of her swords as he moves in, hitting AC 37 for 20 damage.

[if you wanted to be on Jova's other side, that's fine I can move you. There would be an AoO either way]

Lumi raises his own sword, taking a swipe at the demon as he moves in. His bastard sword comes crashing down, but gets deflected off of her scaly shoulder at the last moment.

Jova is battered by the assault, but manages to drop his wand and withdraw another one.

[How does that concentration check allow you to finish the summoning? After deductions for stoneskin, I count 68 damage, so the concentration check would be 78, or at least a natural 20. Admittedly, I don't know everything about these checks, so there might be a rule I'm missing. Please specify if there is something I'm not considering]

Jova lets a ray burst forth from the wand, this one again hitting the Marilith square in the midsection and causing her to scream in agony.

[Also, what was cast from the wand? I need to know damage type, etc. I also don't know what spell has a difference in damage that severe based on saving or not saving. Did you really mean 95 or 12?]

[Finally, moving into the room is safe for Jova. The marilith is considered grappling until the start of her next turn (notwithstanding Arien's movement, as all is considered happening at once) so she can't AoO you if you move. Specify if you do so, and I'll change the map as needed]

Draax resists the temptation to press the attack against the demons, and grabs a scroll from Tratain's backpack. He hands it over to Vedik so the Fixer can heal the Knights.

Horvis prepares a second summoning spell, pleased with how his allies have helped the battle thus far.

. . . enemy turn coming soon . . .

Round 5, Enemy Initiative  d20+12=32
Saturday January 19th, 2008 7:01:26 PM

The demons outside by the stairs pause for a moment in silence. With a glance at each other, the chaos resumes.

The Nalfeshnee looks at the Mariith for a moment, apparently deep in concentration. After but a moment, he stops, and re-fixes his eyes on the enemies before him.

[caster level check vs. Vedik's dimensional anchor = 32. Vedik, I believe your CL is 16, correct?]

The Marilith swoops back a few feet, closes her eyes for a brief second, then disappears.

Back inside, a pair of snake-like demons emerge from the fog. While they appear a slightly different than the last one (and they don't have wings), it is clear enough that they are Mariliths as well. They step forward from the fog and eye the bears, wicked grins on their faces.

Map:http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc35/carucci3/round5.jpg

Things to answer:
1. Where exactly is Lumi
2. Did Jova want to move since there is no AoO
3. What spell came from that wand that Jova fired
4. How did Jova's concentration check work

The link to that map makes it pretty blurry. I'm trying to find an alternative, and will post it asap.

Edit: I'm just going to email it tonight.

More Enemies! An Ally! The Dire Bears move in and attack.

Dire Bear 1 (AC 17; 129 HP)
The bear steps 5 feet northwest (O9 - Q11) so that it is flanking with the recently arrived air elemental. It launches into the marilith in front of it (M1). Both claw attacks hit, the second one very accurately, but it cannot come to grips with the demon. It's bite is successful but barely does any damage.
Claw 1 - hits AC 29, 21 damage
Grapple - 34, automatic failure on natural 3
Claw 2 - hits AC 45 (threat), confirmed AC 36, 39 damage
Grapple - 35 vs. DC of 39

Dire Bear 2 (AC 17; 75/129 HP)
The bear steps northeast to O15 - Q17 to flank the other marilith. The first claw attack hits and the bear immediately moves to grapple with the demon. It successfully grabs hold and continues to claw and bite but cannot hit the creature.
Claw 1 - hits AC 37, 22 damage
Grapple - 49 vs. DC of 39
Claw 2 - misses AC 28
Bite - misses AC 19

Huge Air Elemental (AC 21; 136 HP)  2d8(4+7)=11
Saturday January 19th, 2008 10:42:28 PM

The huge air elemental appears behind the two mariliths. After the dire bears attack, the elemental shifts into whirlwind form and moves slightly. First, it lifts off the floor and moves to the south slightly to contact the marilith before jogging east to try to grab the other marilith from the dire bear.

After picking up the two mariliths, the elemental reverses direction and flys through the fog or smoke, climbing as it goes.

Actions

Monday January 21st, 2008 1:06:33 AM

The staff had erupted and sent the green ray at the Marilith. Then the beast had blinked out of existence. Jova did not know if it were an apparition or what.

Looking toward the other demon, he notes Monthor hacking at it. Although he is still bleeding he knows the stoneskin spell is nearly depleted. He decides in order to survive he needs to cast it on himnself. Going through the motions he casts the stoneskin on himself for protection. He knows his fellows can not see him, so he blurts out.

"Still alive, could use a heal though."

Heal enables you to channel positive energy into a creature to wipe away injury and afflictions. It immediately ends any and all of the following adverse conditions affecting the Target: ability damage, blinded, confused, dazed, dazzled, deafened, diseased, exhausted, fatigued, feebleminded, insanity, nauseated, sickened, stunned, and poisoned.

Aww crap...could have healed Tratain and ended his stun. Damnit.

Tratain's eyes snap into focus as the Healing Magic washes over him. Unsure as to how he got to where he is Tratain stands, drawing the Cold Iron Longsword lent to him by Draax as the familiar weight of his Warhammer is gone.

Tratain then defensively casts (Defensive casting roll passed) Align Weapon(Good) on the Longsword as he glances about his surroundings.

Seeing the Marilith past the corner of the door Tratain stretches out the Longsword Towards Draax saying "Draax, take your sword and have at it. Wheres my Hammer! What Happened!"

Arien you're like 9 feet out of range for the Mass heal, you definitly have the movement to get into range. You might wanna talk to Matt and see if he'll let you adjust your move.

Adam OOC

Moving straight up is double move, fly speed is 60 so the farthest I could move up is 30 feet.

Joe OOC

Gah, looks like I miscalculated. I thought the wall was 25 feet up, so up 25 feet puts you even with the wall. Going up costs twice so thats 50 feet. Decending goes twice as fast so I thought the last 10 feet decending towards the party would get you into range. Unless I got that all messed up heh.

Monthor's axe flashes again and again as he continues to assault the Nalfeshnee. [Note, Monthor is hovering over open space if he wants to reach the demon. I believe he is flying, right?]

All three attacks connect, one of them biting even more deeply than normal, causing the Nalfeshnee to scream in pain.

Horvis causes an enormous air elemental to appear behind the Mariliths [I'm not sure where Horvis is moving to, can you give me coordinates?]

The air elemental must make 2 reflex saves, each DC 23.

First save: if it fails, it takes 60 damage. If it succeeds, it takes 30 damage.

Second save; if it fails, it takes 40 damage. If it succeeds, it takes 20 damage.

One of the dire bears moves in to attack the left Marilith, clawing and biting it viciously. Blood spews onto the bear's fur as the Marilith is buffeted by the onslought.

THe other bear lands a massive paw, and wraps its arm about the demon, dragging it in for a rather unfriendly bearhug.

Horvis Highlight to display spoiler: { Each dire bear makes 1 will save, DC 23. If either passes, read the second spoiler. Please do not communicate the fact that saves are being made, unless one of them succeeds.}

Horvis second (spoiler]The dire bear that made its will save (or both) gets the impression that there is something strange about these mariliths. YOu can't communicate directly with them (that I know of) but you can tell by their body language that they no longer consider these demons as much of a threat as they did a few seconds ago[/spoiler]

The elemental then swoops in and tries to scoop up the MAriliths.

Horvis third Highlight to display spoiler: { THe elemental also makes a will save, DC 23, for each marilith. If it succeeds, it then knows what is in spoiler #2, and you can glean this information from its actions}

THe Mariliths are swept up by the whirlwind. [If you still want it to move into the fog after knowing of the reflex saves, that's fine, but if it flies as stated it will at minimum 1 more reflex save, DC 23, or take 59 damage (29 if success). You decide and specify please]

Jova re-casts the stoneskin spell on himself, then calls out to his friends so his location and health status is known.

Arien casts a spell on himself and soars into the air, rising to the top of the wall of force.

Vedik unfurls the scroll given him from Draax, reading loudly. Massive amounts of divine power surge through those nearby, filling their spirits and envigorating their bodies.

Tratain awakens from his stunned state, able to act again. He gives a look of annoyance at Vedik for holding the spell for so long. [sorry, couldn't resist, hilarious that he could have been unstunned 3 rounds ago. I forgot as well! :)]

[Arien is 5 feet above the top of the wall. Using the diagonal, 3D rules, Arien is reachable by the spell, I believe.]

Draax removes a potion of flying and quaffs the entire draft in one gulp, rising a few inches into the air as he does so.

Tratain jumps into action, pulling out Draax' longsword and blessing it before handing it back to the warrior. THe Nalfeshnee in front of the Knights looks on, his eyes widening in what almost appears to be fear at the newly-aligned weapon. [correct, Tratain, no AoO due to the circle]

Round 6, Enemy Initiative  d20+20=28 d20+17=20 d20+17=32
Monday January 21st, 2008 10:07:48 PM

The Nalfeshnee tries to repay Monthor's favor, biting and clawing at the dwarf in rage. All three attacks go wide, somehow missing Monthor completely.

The Mariliths writh inside the whirlwind, their screams lost to the maelstrom. After only a few seconds, though, they disappear from inside the elemental.

In the outer room, another brief flash of light is seen as the Glabrezu reappears. It now stands on top of the forcecage holding the spider, glaring malevolently at those Knights still standing outside. It's eyes are very clearly healed after Vedik's previous assault.

[anyone know a reason why the demon can't stand on top of the forcecage? I'll be honest, it's just a guess on my part, so if it's wrong, he will go away]

Round 6 PC Results  d20+18=38
Tuesday January 22nd, 2008 8:36:57 PM

[sorry, I think 1 or 2 haven't posted, but I've got to get the turn in, it takes an hour or so and it's getting a bit late]

Monthor presses his attack on the Nalfeshnee, landing two heavy blows on the beast. Lumi steps forward, adding his own deadly blades to the mix and scoring another slash across the demon's midsection.

Draax flies forward, bringing his newly-enhanced sword to bear and slashing the Nalfeshnee across the neck. The blow proves to be the demon's undoing, as greenish-black blood spouts forth from its neck.

With a groan and a gurgle, the Nalfeshnee falls out of the air, plummeting to the floor below and landing in a lifeless heap next to the spider's cage.

Vedik calls out a warning, then removes another wand from the folds of his cloak and points it at Monthor, causing the dwarf to expand in size, his axe growing right along with him. The smell of unbathed dwarf radiates even stronger throughout the chamber now.

Tratain first helps himself to his own portion of battle magic. His muscles swell with newfound strength, but the protector resists the urge to leap into the fray. Instead, he raises his holy symbol, casting another spell at the Glabrezu.

The demon's back arches, pain wracking its body, although it fights off the overpowering urge to succumb to death. [fort save 38, natural 20 - wish that was on an attack roll]

Then, the oddest little thing appears: Horvis, Vedik and Arien, standing in the larger room, look to their left to see what appears to be a halfling with a loaded bow, poised to fire at whatever he decides to be a threat. Is this another of the Marilith's tricks? How did a lone halfing come to be here like this?

[Dwight, I put you to the left of the fog. You snuck around the fog to get where you are, and saw everything I related in your email.]

The halfling, for his part, appears a bit afraid. His bow moves back and forth between the giant bears, the whirling air elemental, and what appears to be a number of various demons milling about.

Arien spends a moment studying the fog.

Arien Highlight to display spoiler: { It looks to you to have come from a fog cloud spell. However, you know full well the spell doesn't make that much fog. There must be multiple castings here to fill up all that space. (in case it wasn't clear before, the fog goes from floor to ceiling)}

Then Arien moves a bit and casts another battle spell on his friends, allowing them faster movement and attacks. [let me know what space you move to. I'm sure there is a good spot to get everyone, although the newly-appeared halfling isn't going to get the spell effect, unfortunately]

. . . enemy turn coming . . .

The Glabrezu takes a small step forward, then lashes out at Lumi with every weapon at its disposal.

One of its claws rakes Lumi's chest (AC 32), for 11 damage.

It's pincers reach out, both clamping down on Lumi (AC 37 and 33), for 18 and 14 damage.

A pair of Marilith's emerge from the fog on the right side of the room.

A third Marilith appears just above the doorway, flying inside the anti-gravity area. This one has wings, and hovers 50 feet up in the air, nearly reaching the ceiling.

All three Mariliths hold longswords in each of their six hands.

Horvis commands the dire bears to attack the mariliths in the room.

Dire Bear 1 (AC 17; 129 HP)
The bear towards the closest marilith, ending at N12-P14. It claws once at the marilith, hitting the demon and then grabbing it.

Claw 1 - hits AC 40, 22 damage
Grapple - 43, vs. DC of 39

Dire Bear 2 (AC 17; 75/129 HP)
The bear doesn't need to move at all to attack the grappled marilith.

Claw 1 - hits AC 42, 23 damage
Grapple - 49 vs. DC of 39
Claw 2 - hits AC 36, 17 damage
Bite - misses AC 26]

Dire Bear 3 (AC 17; HP 122/129)
Is no longer dazed. Hearing the shout from Horvis, the dire bear overcomes its fear of unnatural falling and "leaps" onto the marilith hovering above it.

Falling Object dmg to marilith (20d6, maximum because bear is "falling" 30 feet and weighs several multiples of the 200 lbs required for 1d6 damage) = 74
Jump (untrained) = 28
Falling damage to dire bear (3d6) = 7

Once it is close to (or sitting on) the marilith, the bear starts attacking. The first claw misses but the second catches the demon in a vital area. The bear cannot grapple the marilith because its claws ripped something loose. Finally, the bear bites at the marilith.

Claw 1 - misses (natural 1)
Claw 2 - hits AC 43 (threat), confirmed AC 33, 44 damage
Grapple - misses (natural 1)
Bite - hits AC 34, 23 damage

Tratain scoops up the potion left for him by Jova Thanking the Sorcerer. At the Mention of a Halfling Tratain takes a step into the Doorway and glances in at everything going on inside the room for the first time.

Seeing Elementals, Giant Bears, A Halfling, Several Mariliths one of which has wings and is flying which can't possibly be real, Tratain decides to cast True Seeing(defensively) to sort out what is real and what isn't.

He calls to his friends "That Halfling is really there and really a halfling. It doesn't look like Dorbuns Halfling I don't think. Don't kill it yet until we find out more."

Tratain will also call out to his comrades what is real and what isn't.

Round 7, PC Results  d20+18=29 d20+18=27 d20+20=25
Wednesday January 23rd, 2008 8:19:18 PM

The dire bears leap into action. Two make for the closest Marilith, ripping and tearing at it with their claws.

Horvis Highlight to display spoiler: {THe dire bears, and the whirlwind for that matter, again make DC 23 will saves. Success gives them the same info as in the spoiler last turn}

The third dire bear, in its tiny mammalian brain, decides that the easiest way to attack a Marilith is to simply squish her. It lets go of its hold on the wall and flies upward, slamming into the demon and knocking her to the ceiling.

Both of them are now prone on the ceiling. The dire bear tries to attack the Marilith with mixed success.

[First, AC 33 does not hit this Marilith, so that last attack is a miss, and the second is not confirmed. Also, the dire bear is prone just as the Marilith, so it has a -4 to attacks. She has a -4 to AC against it, so it doesn't matter as to this MArilith (all works out the same), but don't forget this in case it becomes relevant).

THe elemental, meanwhile, flies over, trying to suck the Marilith up into its vortex. This demon proves a bit more resiliant, and the elemental is unable to even hurt her.

Horvis then finishes his third summon, bring three griffons into the fight.

The griffons leap at the demon, attempting to rend her scaly flesh. Unfortunately, they prove not to be as effective as Horvis would hope. [even with -4 for being prone, only the first attack of the first Griffon lands]

Monthor calls out a battle cry and advances on the Glabrezu, swinging his axe and slicing open the demon's forearm. [Monthor has to move 10 feet to attack, as he was 20 feet away, so only 1 attack this round.]

The demon takes a swing at Monthor with one of its pincers, missing him badly (AC 25).

Lumi also charges forward, cutting deeply into the Glabrezu's hide. [same here, only 1 attack because you had to take more than a 5' step. Luckily, the first attack was the crit]

Arien raises his hands and waves them toward the left side of the fog bank. A section 20 feet wide and from floor to ceiling disappears. As the smoke clears, Arien can see the ends of two walls that seem to be made of whirling blades. Judging from Tratain's prior use of such things, all of you can easily identify these as blade barriers.

A Marilith's snake-like form can be seen behind the second barrier.

Jova tosses a potion of flying at Tratain's feet, then casts true strike on himself, preparing to assault one of the demons.

Vedik points his wand at Lumi, causing the Protector to grow even larger in size.

Draax flies towrad the Glabrezu, raising his sword for another attack. [same as the others, more than a 5' move, so only 1 attack] He connects, causing the demon to scream in rage as the sword cuts deeper than the other blades.

Tratain grabs the potion provided by Jova and steps to the doorway.

[you said "into the room, but moving into the room causes two problems: first, you can't cast, as that would be 2 move actions, and second, you didn't drink the potion so you're falling to the ceiling again. I'm assuming you moved to the doorway, a 5' step, then cast the spell, although if this is wrong, please say so. I'm also assuming the potion is not consumed yet, as you can't drink it and cast both in this round.]

He casts true seeing and looks around the room. "The halfling is real!" he yells. "The flyer is an illusion, as are the demons the bears are fighting. That marilith way back there is real."

The newly arrived halfling hesitates for a moment, sizing up the situation, and decides to take the side of the demons fighting against the mariliths. He lets loose three arrows, two flying wide. The third hits one of the mariliths, though Dwight cannot tell from this distance how much damage it did. [which marilith? if you shot at the one fighting the summoned bears, you hit. if you shot at the flying one fighting the summoned griffons and elemental, you missed]

[note, griffons not marked on map, but they are all right there with the flying marilith (#3)]

. . . enemy turn coming . . .

The Glabrezu takes a step to the side, out of the way of Monthor and Draax, and presses its attack on Lumi. In a raging torrent of blows, it connects with all five of its attacks, Lumi's fur and blood flying every which way.

Its pincers do 20 and 19 damage.

Its claws do 8 and 7 damage (2d6 rolled together, but separate damages).

It's bite does 12 damage.

The two grounded mariliths raise their arms above their heads, pointing at Horvis above. (concentration checks to cast defensively made, 46 and 31).

Two identical rings of spinning blades appear above Horvis' head, at the ceiling, spinning downward to slice into his body.

Horvis must make two (2) reflex saves, DC 23 each.

If he fails the first, he takes 65 damage.

If he fails the second, he takes 59 damage.

Also if he fails either, he must make a DC 75 or 69 concentration check (depending on which failed) or lose the spell he is casting.

The flying marilith watches as its companions attack the bears. Then, with a grisly smile, it looks down toward the floor. It closes its eyes for but a moment (concentration check to cast defensively passed, 31), then opens them and points a finger at Vedik.

A wall of blades, similar to those assaulting Horvis, appears across the threshold of the room, and directly through Vedik's body.

Vedik must make a reflex save, DC 23, or take 46 damage. He can choose whether he moves into the main room or back to the stairway landing, but he must move one way or the other.

Anyone passing through the doorway or any of those squares must make a reflex save, DC 23. If you fail, I will roll damage at that point.

The dire bears keep up their assaults on the mariliths. Horvis directs the dire bears to go through the cloud.

Dire Bear 1 (AC 17; 129 HP)
The bear notices something about the marilith, something unusual. It doesn't taste like demon, for one thing.
Will = 28

The bear dances aside from the ring of blades and ends up in L12-N14.
Reflex = 25, second reflex = 9 (natural 1) for moving through Blade Barrier

Obeying Horvis' command, the bear moves directly north. Once it clears the cloud (and passes through whatever spell exists (Reflex = 19 for moving through Blade Barrier), the bear attacks whatever is visible.
Claw - hits AC 37, 22 damage
Grapple - 41 vs. DC of ?

Dire Bear 2 (AC 17; 75/129 HP)
The bear keeps on attacking M1.
Will = 13
Claw 1 - hits AC 32, 22 damage
Claw 2 - misses AC 20 (natural 1)
Bite - hits AC 29, 23 damage

Dire Bear 3 (AC 17; HP 122/129)
The bear realizes that something is amiss, but cannot do much about it right now. It remains prone beside the prone marilith (no mention that it stood), attacking without pause.
Claw 1 - hits AC 32, 21 damage
Grapple - 51 (natural 20)
Claw 2 - misses AC 17
Bite - misses AC 26

Locked in a struggle to the death, Lumi barely feels the punishment handed out by the pincer-demon (3 stoneskin (gone), 5 damred, 58 dam to Lumi), and he bares his pointed teeth at his enemy. White foam flecks his mouth and his eyes burn red in the Punainen-Silma of his battlerage.

If the Glabrezu goes down under Monthor and Draax's attacks (combined 164 damage with no reduction since both weapons are good aligned), the blood-streaked white form of Lumi-Juova pads to the entrance and waits for the barriers to be brought down so his rage may be unleashed.

If the Glabrezu is somehow still on its feet, Lumi uses the reach of his increased size to let his sword drip red. "HAAKA PAALE! HAAKAAAaaa!!!" he screams into the demon's face.

Once again, tonight may be a problem for me to get a full post in, and I may have to get it in tomorrow AM. Sorry for the inconvenience, thursdays are just really tough for me lately and it's hard fitting everything in.

Tratain Drinks the Fly potion provided by Jova and then Dives through the Whirling Blades. (Reflex Save 27) He flys up towards the Ceiling intending to pick up his Warhammer when he gets the chance.

(With Fly plus Haste that gives 90 movement. Since the Ceiling is actually down because of the Reverse Gravity Tratain should have plenty of movement to get to it.)

Trying to clear a path towards his 'new allies' Dwight first clicks his boots slightly.

He then lets 2 arrows fly (at the same Marilith the Dire Bears are attacking, if its dead, he targets another in that area).

First Arrow: 38 (nat 20)/27 (I don't think this is a crit.) Dmg: 8

Second Arrow: 15 MISS

He then grabs 2 arrows and launches them at the same demon: 25 dmg: 31

Monthor and Draax continue to press their attack on the Glabrezu. Between their blows, the demon finally crumbles into a lifeless heap on top of the forcecage.

Horvis directs his bears to head through the clouds of fog.

The first dire bear charges into the fog. Unfortunately, it's reflexes aren't all that good. [I rolled another save for it, got a 16, it had 2 make 2 saves in the fog]. Charging blindly ahead, Horvis hears the bear scream out in pain once, twice.

Damage to dire bear 1, 52+57=109 total (2 failed saves).

If still alive, Horvis hears the bear attacking something. [grapple check is good, though you can't see what it is fighting]

Dire bears 2 and 3 continue attacking their previous target, slicing and rending the demon's flesh underneath their great paws.

The elemental follows the first bear, plunging into the fog bank. It is somewhat more agile than the bear (being made of wind), though a roar can be heard soon after, sounding much like a strong gale blowing through the room.

first save passed, damage 56, half=28
second save failed, damage=60

Total damage=88

As the roar subsides, Horvis feels the elemental dissipate, returning to whatever plane it was called from.

Horvis, meanwhile, transforms himself into a stirge, then flits across the ceiling towards the fog. [a stirge? very nice]

Jova spies the spider below and decides he wants to take it out. He fires off a spell, but unfortunately, it seems to fizzle without hitting the enormous arachnid.

[forcecage blocks spell effects like a wall of force, as far as I know. If I am incorrect and someone points it out, I'll apply the spell]

Arien identifies what he realizes is an actual, in-the-flesh demon, and wastes no time in sending a small bead of fiery force at it. The bead explodes, engulfing the marilith in flames. The demon is entirely too slow [save 19], and is rewarded by the stink of burning, smoldering flesh.

Lumi, still foaming at the mouth, watches the demon fall to his friends' blows, then heads to the door, waiting for the chance to strike another enemy down.

Vedik's flesh is rended by the whirling blades, though he survives the assault, landing himself on the ground.

Tratain gulps down the potion. Then, in a daring move equal to any circus performance, dives headfirst through the whirling blades. While he does receive some cuts and slashes, he somehow gets through without any significant harm.

damage=50, saved for half, so total is 25.

The mysterious halfling lets a volley of arrows fly. The first sinks itself into the demon's tail, though the others go wide. [the demon is prone on the ceiling, so ranged attacks have a -4 penalty, while melee attacks have a +4 bonus]

. . . enemy turn coming . . .

Friday January 25th, 2008 10:16:11 AM

From behind the fog cloud, you can hear the slams and bangs of a fight going on.

The dire bear screams in agony, while another gutteral voice laughs in twisted glee.

The bear is hit 7 timies, taking a total of 107 damage (14, 17, 15, 13, 17, 16, 15). Giving one final groan, Horvis can hear his ally collapse on the floor.

As Horvis lands on the ceiling inside the fog cloud, he is forced to make 2 additional reflex saves, DC 23. [sorry, I wasn't looking at the map when I posted your results above, so I forgot to mention this.]

First=56 damage if failed, 28 if passed.
Second=48 damage if failed, 24 if passed.

[Minimum total damage is 52, making Horvis -11]

As soon as the stirge-Horvis flies into the fog, his limp body is tossed back out. By the time it lands on the floor, it has already reverted to Horvis' regular form. A noble centaur lies lifeless on the floor, and a pair of dire bears, across the room, howl in unison mourning their friend.

The winged apparition looks at Arien. (concentration check 38) Another ring of whirling blades appears, cutting and slicing through the mage's flesh.

Reflex save DC 23, or 57 damage (pass=0).

The still-smoldering Marilith snarls at Arien, then raises its own hands. Pointing a sword at Arien's chest, it makes a quick motion sideways.

Suddenly, Arien fells a great weight pushing him, almost throwing him bodily into the blades that stick out from the fog.

He must succeed on a will save, DC 23. If he does, he is able to stand in place and resist the unseen force.

If he fails, he is thrown through the air and hurtles into the wall of blades whose end sticks out from the fog. [he would land in L7]

If this happens, he must then make a reflex save, DC 23. Failure means 51 damage. Success means 25 damage.

Map will be along via email later today.

Monthor AC 34 (36 vs evil) HP 130/130
Friday January 25th, 2008 10:54:29 AM

Monthor rumages through his haversack and takes out his Cape of the Mountbank.

" Draax! Wanna go on a trip! Let's port over to the Queen Orc Lover and make her pay for what she did to our friends!!! "

ooc> Monthor will DELAY ACTION until the end of the ennemies' turn and then dimension door ( with Draax if he chooses to accompany Monthor) over to the Marilith ( the furthest one, the one that attacked Arien). If I'm thinking this right, since it's a delayed action, Monthor would dimension door and then be able to attack before the Marilith gets an action next round. Dimension dooring ends Monthor's actions (this round) but he'd get first action next round. Right?

ooc> Is the forcecage barred or windowless? If it's barred. Spells can go through.

Effect

Fly- The subject can fly at a speed of 40 feet). It can ascend at half speed and descend at double speed, and its maneuverability is good.
Haste: When making a full attack action, a hasted creature may make one extra attack. The attack is made using the creature's full base attack bonus, plus any modifiers appropriate to the situation. +1 bonus on attack rolls and a +1 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves. Enlarged: +2 size bonus to Strength, a -2 size penalty to Dexterity (to a minimum of 1), and a -1 penalty on attack rolls and AC due to its increased size.
Dodge bonus to the creature being attacked
( AC 37 )

A few problems with dimension door here:

1. Your plan isn't quite correct. if you dimension door, that's your turn. The enemies get to go, then you get your next turn.

If you delay now until the enemies go, they get to go again, then you teleport next turn. You're essentially skipping 1 round for Monthor without getting any benefit out of it. No matter when you do it, you can't dimension door, then act, before the enemy gets another turn.

2. Now, Draax would get a single standard action after the dimension door, although I'm not sure he can go with you. You need 3 caster levels above the spell level to bring a medium or smaller creature, and if you are using the cape, it is minimum caster level.

Of course, if Draax plus your gear doesn't exceed Monthor's max load, I'd allow it regardless.

3. This may all be moot, because Monthor is currently wearing his cloak of resistance (based on the saves he's made in the tower so far). So it would be 2-3 move actions to get the Cape of the Mountebank ready. First removing the cloak of resistance, second taking the Cape of the Mountebank out, third putting it on. I'd limit that to 2 move actions, although it doesn't make much difference since I think the end result is, you can't dimension door until next round anyway, and it would be the only action in that round.

Sorry to give the bad news, I'm not trying to screw up the plans. if you need to redo the turn, go for it. -M

Monthor AC 34 (36 vs evil) HP 92/102 (130)
Monday January 28th, 2008 8:25:14 AM

:: Monthor "Magekiller" of the Axe Head Clan unhooks his cloak of resistance, letting it drop to the floor, and draws out his cape of the Mountbank from his handy haversack ( "Retrieving any specific item from a haversack is a move action, but it does not provoke the attacks of opportunity that retrieving a stored item usually does." ) and dones it. ::

ooc> I really don't like the thought of going through blade barriers and obscuring mists to get to the Queen Demon. So, even if it takes another round, "I" still think this is the best way. Even if was just to charge through, he wouldn't get to attack. So, it clarify. This round, he switches out the cloaks ( Especially hasted (double move), that should be good enough correct? The cloak is just unclasped and dropped to the floor. The cape is in the haversack and easily accessible.) Even if it's a two round process, let it role.

=============================================
ooc> Now, regardless of when this happens, if Monthor delays action until after the ennemies are done. This would be Monthor's action for the round. End Monthor's round. Next round, wouldn't Monthor be able to attack first as per party initiative? The dimension door "end action" effect was done the previous turn. So: Monthor delays, ennemy action, Monthor's action, end turn ( i.e. no attack on Monthor).
Next turn, Monthor attacks first. If this isn't acceptable, Monthor will Ddoor anyway but further east ( likely in the BC 12/13 area) and go from there.

[OOC: the circles on the map are blade barriers. Check text on the right for definitions, etc. on the maps]

Lumi flies upward, squeezing his way over, under and around the blade barriers in his way, to attack the flying marilith image. He lands a number of solid hits, though the demon simply smiles as it watches the taur swing his blades.

Tratain watches sadly as one of his friends dies, then wastes no time retrieving his hammer and strengthening himself for battle.

One of the dire bears (2) drags a marilith into the fog, attempting to grind its flesh within one of the blade barriers.

The other dire bear (3) does the same with the flying marilith, pulling it out of the gravity field and through one of the blade barrier rings.

[when grappling, both entities occupy the same spaces. I tried a few things, but couldn't see any way to pull the enemy into a blade barrier without the bears also getting hurt. If you have a way I missed, please specify]

Both bears and both mariliths are instantly shredded by the blades.

Dire bear 2 and its enemy each take 57 damage (reflex 23 for half).

Dire bear 3 and its enemy each take 40 damage (reflex 23 for half).

Vedik pauses a moment before continuing, healing his wounds.

Dwight floats a few feet into the air on an odd little magic broom. He fires off 4 arrows in rapid succession. Unfortunately, the swaying of the broom must have hurt his aim the slightest bit, as the arrows fly by the demon's head, mere inches from puncturing an eye. [all missed]

Arien easily avoids his opponent's magical barrage, and decides to return the favor. Eight beams of light shoot forth from his outstretched hand, each a different color.

A violet beam strikes the marilith in the back. The demon arches, writhes in pain for a moment, then settles, a grim smile on its face. [made save with 31...phew. Also, I acounted for anything that happened beyond the fog]

[OOC to Monthor: now I understand what you are getting at. Apologies for my confusion. Yes, if you do those things and delay, you can appear after the demons have their turn, thus avoiding an attack.

It's a question whether you could get everything done this turn or not. But you are hasted, so I'll say Monthor can switch the cloaks fast then use the second one. He would then appear at the end of the demons' next turn.

Does Draax go?]

. . . enemy turn coming soon . . .

The marilith facing off against Arien scowls darkly. Straightening its back, it pushes through the blade barrier, unheeding of the whirling blades of force. Nimble enough, the demon barely pauses as its arms and tail are cut. [reflex 31]

Moving forward quickly, it raises a longsword and takes a slice at Arien, cutting through his robes.

It hits AC 42, for 17 damage.

Another marilith appears a few paces west of Vedik, snarling a challenge to the dwarf.

Both mariliths that were identified by Tratain as images fall silent and still (they are still there).

Suddenly, another marilith, the same winged demon that attacked Jova and Arien earlier, appears near Tratain and Lumi, its arms raised.

Its longswords flash out. It presses a vicious attack on the pair.

Attacks on Lumi:
AC 46, damage 22 plus 6 fire damage
AC 41, damage 22 plus 6 cold damage
AC 31, damage 25 plus 1 electric damage
AC 33, damage 19 plus 2 sonic damage
AC 49, crit confirm 41, damage 36 plus 4 chaotic damage (if you are lawful)

Lumi's enormous body sags, then falls to the ground under the onslought. Tratain watches his companion as the liontaur plummets to the floor below, the marilith laughing menacingly as the rest of her arms cloud Tratain's vision.

Attacks on Tratain:
AC 38, damage 17
AC 48, crit confirm 44, damage 38
AC 25, miss
AC 31, miss? If it hits, damage is 19
AC 15, miss

Its tail lashes out, trying to wrap Tratin up inside it.

It hits AC 43, for 24 damage.

The demon then attempts to grapple Tratain with its tail. Grapple check: 34 (I don't know Tratain's grapple DC, but I'm going to assume this makes it unless you say otherwise).

As it wraps its scaly tail around the Protector, it begins squeezing the life out of him, constricting for an additional 31 damage.

map will be emailed in a few minutes.

Lumi-Juova ( HP -27/176) dead
Monday January 28th, 2008 10:16:09 PM

Faced by the many armed demon, Lumi is too lightly armored and suffers strike after strike, tearing the hide, arms, and torso of the white wemic until it is difficult to see the alabaster fur. (134 damage, 5 dam red, and Lumi was chaotic ;)

The last cruel blade slams the wemic to the stones and he crashes in an inglorious heap.

Pain! and then... nothing. Lumi opens his eyes and feels himself stand, but there is something wrong; a body of a noble Ice Vien wemic lays bleeding sluggishly on the stones...

Attack #2: 21+1+2=24 (miss)

Round 10, PC Results  d20+14=28
Tuesday January 29th, 2008 8:18:07 PM

[just to be clear, those labeled M1, M2 and M3 on the map are the ones Tratain identifed as some sort of illusion. Mar1, Mar2, and Mar3 are the ones he saw as being real]

Dwight floats on his broom, firing off another volley at one of the Mariliths. Two of his arrows embed themselves in the demon's shoulder, causing it to howl in anger, though the arrows don't seem to cause as much injury as they should.

[Two problems with Mislead: 1, it is a standard action so you can't fire an arrow if you use it. 2, you need an SR check to make it work. If you want me to remove the attacks and use the mislead instead, just say so and I'll change this]

Monthor appears behind the flying Marilith, swinging his axe like it's going out of style. His first strike nearly severs one of her arms (crit just made it), and the next three bite deeply into her flesh, tearing scales and chunks off of her.

Arien flits to his right, then a scowl darkens his face. Raising his hand and pointing at the marilith queen, he unleashes the full fury of his arcane abilities, firing a beam of pure elemental ice. The freezing beam slams into the demon, nearly knocking her to the ground. She howls in anguish as her body is covered in freezing ice. [crit confirmed, and wow, nice spell]

[I put Draax under Monthor, only way he could fit and attack without getting blade barriered]

Draax, appearing along with Monthor, hefts his blade and hammers the demon once, twice, thrice! [AC 32 missed, and the crit confirm missed - I gave you the 24 from the first roll]

Finally, the demon screams once more as her back arches in pain. "OOoohhhhh! My beautiful wickedness!" she yells. Her arms go limp, the blades falling from her hands. "Gone! All gone! Aaaaahahhhhhh!"

Tratain slips out of her now-weakened tail as her wings cease their flapping and she plummets to the floor.

Partway there, she lands on top of Arien's wall of force, bounces southward, and slides down. "goooonnnneeeee..." you hear her voice fading, then her lifeless body is caught in her own blade barrier and torn to shreds, covering those nearby in a sticky green ichor.

One of the marilith images mimics her movements, dropping its blades and howling silently. Then it simply winks out of existence (M3).

Jova fires off another invisible blast from his dispelling wand, though the blade barrier and gravity field seem to stay in place. [didn't beat CL]

Vedik flies under the blade barrier and reaches out, laying a hand lightly on the marilith. [I move you to this one since the other died, please tell me if you don't want to change targets]

The marilith shudders, wracked with pain, but recovers quickly enough [made save].

Tratain, seeing the closest enemy plummet to her demise, targets Vedik's opponent as well. Raising a hand, he utters a word of power. Barely recovered from Vedik's assault, the marilith strains again, but seems to overcome the Protector's power. [I'm very sorry to say, it has exactly 151 HP left...]

[I saw Dwight's and Draax' edits, but no matter, you killed her anyway. She had 320 HP too...]

Enemy Initiative
Tuesday January 29th, 2008 8:22:00 PM

Seeing their queen fall, the remaining mariliths pause for a moment. Their eyes widen at the awesome display of raw power from the Knights.

They look at each other for a split second, their expressions making them seem deep in conversation, though their mouths do not move. One nods, and both take a step backward. At the same time, both disappear from sight.

A few seconds later, their images disappear as well, leaving the Knights standing in an oddly quiet room, the only sound that of the whirling blades of force staggered throughout the area.

Monthor lowers himself to the ground and picks up one of the demon queens swords.

A tear starts to trickle down his face. Now that the battle rage has subsided, the pain of losing two friends starts to swell up inside of him.

" Well, that was fun.... "

:: A blood curdling scream of rage and sorrow escapes from the dwaves lips as he breaks the sword over his knee... ::

:: Monthor turns toward's the party's war leader. ::

Tratain watches the Flying Marilith plummet to the ground with some satisfaction. As the other two Mariliths vanish Tratain casts Greater Dispel Magic at the Fog Hopeing to get rid of it to see if they decided to Hide behind it.

He calls to the Halfling "Hey, where did you come from. Why are you here. I saw you shoot at the Mariliths, so you don't seem to be their friend. Do you have any Idea where they could have gone to?"

If we have more time without interuption Tratain directs His companions to strip anything Magical off the Dead Marilith. He Opens his Portable Hole somewhere where there is room and Directs they put everything in it. He also directs Lumi and Horvis's Bodies be placed in there as well. Saying "We can see if they wish to be brought back when we get outside the City, or bury them in the Graveyard with the Paladin which would due them honor."

"I'm no coward, but I'm not going before Gargul to ask another boon before we complete the task he's set before you."

Clearly addressing the halfling now, he says
"Answer quick little one. Our party had a rough time of it in this place so I'm wondering how you got here by yourself."

Vedik (Description)
Tuesday January 29th, 2008 9:23:50 PM

OOC, for Dwight

Dressed in white, the figure before you wears the colors of Alemi. Of average
height for a Dwarf, his greying brown hair is close cut, and he wears his beard
short. Steel Grey eyes watch you, and you can sense quite wisdom and calculation behind
them. Over his silvery plate armor is a full length vestment, white with
red-brown trim. In the center of the vestment is an open hand, also
red-brown as if stained by long hours working with the earth. His left arm
carries a shield and a dark metal mace is attached to his belt. You notice that his
hands are dirty, as if he has just come in from the field.

Lumi-Juova (dead)
Tuesday January 29th, 2008 10:07:15 PM

His eyes take in the scene, of the heroes defeating the evil one, and Lumi smiles. He tries to reach out and exult, but the feelings aren't there. No feelings, no pain, no anger...

And no aloneness either. Lumi tries to think about that for a moment and looks at his feet. He is surprised to find a small rivulet of blood that leads off through the wall. And he feels pulled towards its gentle urgency...

Dwight
Tuesday January 29th, 2008 10:11:25 PM

Floating on his broom just away from the winning demons, Dwight considers his next move. As some begin speaking to him, he options slowly dwindle.

He quickly looks to each demon covered in green goo, and then watches as one becomes a dwarf.

So as not to loose his balance, he slings his bow, and opens both palms towards the dwarf in a calm, respectful, healing fashion.

"I am Dwight Twiggebundler, an expert marksman, traveller, and aid to those that need it. At the time of my escape above, it appeared you could use the slight assistance I can offer against such powerful foes."

"The queen had captured me, though I know not why as I was far from here, or so I believe as I am not sure where here is. Regardless, I am glad she tasted some of my arrows before being shredded."

"If the demons have not fled for their lives, they may have advanced upstairs in an attempt to loot the queen's treasure. It is not far from here."

"Not that I have introduced myself, may I request the same of you. Surely your present form is false."

OOC: Now that PC's have a chance to look at Dwight, he is an average build for a halfling, though wears what appears to be a patchwork attire. Various dule colors seem to have been sewn together to make his entire outfit. Aside from the obvious broom, bow, quiver, he carries a small sack, and a shortsword at his side.

While talking openly, flight remains an option while he sits on his broom.

Arien (hp 90/90) AC 26 (Mage Armor, Shield, Stoneskin, Bear's Endurance, Spell Turning, Fly, Haste)
Wednesday January 30th, 2008 1:27:09 AM

Arien, seeing the Marilith leader slain and her henchdemons fleeing takes a moment to concentrate and drops the Veil spell so that the party no longer appears to be demons.

Arien then descends almost to the floor and bows slightly to the halfling. Withdrawing a handkerchief from a pocket, Arien mops at his face and hands, cleaning off blood from his earlier wounds. After his moment of grooming Arien collects his thoughts and says, "Well met Sir Twiggebundler, I am Arien Silverbow. I had not expected to find allies in such an inhospitable place but I am well pleased that we did."

Arien folds the handkerchief as he is talking and stows in back in his pocket.

OOC Description: What you see is a pale elven mage with pitch black hair. Eschewing the traditional wizardly robes Arien instead dresses in sturdy adventuring gear, though now it sorely needs repair, colored as best you can tell through massive amounts of blood that cover the mage, in green and gold.

Jova 70/70 HP 21 AC [Mage Armor, Darkvision]-Stoneskin-Grtr Hero, See Invis 10min
Wednesday January 30th, 2008 3:29:58 AM

Jova dismisses the invisibility spell as he hears voices from within. His wand had not done a very good job at dispelluing anything. So he puts it away. He waits outside to see if the blade barrier will disappear from someone within, or until the rest come out. He is sure if he tries to get through the blades, he will be shred to pieces.

"Not that I have introduced myself, may I request the same of you. Surely your present form is false."

As the Veil drops, Monthor's demon form changes to that of a blood splattered, armor wearing, axe carrying dwarf ( and a darn ugly one at that). Monthor walks with determination towards Tratain. Looking back towards Dwight, the intensity on the warrior's face tells the tale. Monthor has death on his mind.

" Me names Monthor said Magekiller of the Axe Head Clan and the Grey Knights of the Hamlets. These be me boys. The two dead ones were me friends too. Those two demons that left the room alive won't be for much longer. If ye know where they be little one, point the way. For surely me axe is gonna be avenging

" Tratain, heal us up. Cast that align thing on me axe and lets go kill the orc lovers. "

Draax (AC 31, HP 176/176) - Endure Elements, Stoneskin, bear endurance, fly, haste
Wednesday January 30th, 2008 3:00:28 PM

A satisfying smile appears on Draax's face as the realization that it is dying is shown on the creature's face. The half-elf watches it fall and then be torn to sheds. He stares at the other two creatures until they vanish. As he gets his bearings, he learns about the deaths of two of his comrades. He says a silence prayer for each, but is not sad because Draax knows that they are most likely at peace wherever they are and the group will at least petition to see if they want to return. Draax help secure the bodies in the Portable Hole and then turn his attention to the newcomer.

"Nice to meet you Dwight, I am Draax." (Draax is half-elf of average height with black hair and hazel colored eyes wearing a very fine set of chain mail armor. His ears and the way his carries himself will easily identify his elven heritage and his lack of good looks can be contributed to his human side.)

Draax flies down and retrieves his shield. At the mention of the creature treasure, Draax says, "Lets go and take this thing's hoard and keep it out of the hands of the other creatures that will try to take this thing's place as soon as they realize it is dead."

Aftermath
Wednesday January 30th, 2008 3:50:34 PM

Monthor is the first to react to the carnage in the room. Holding one of the queen's oversized swords in his hands, he curses and rages as he attempts to break it.

THe sword proves stronger than expected, and merely clangs to the floor, a bit more tarnished than before.

Tratain uses the dispelling wand to remove the fog and blade barriers. After a few moments, the room is cleared of magical obstacles.

The fog was covering a pair of crossing blade barriers that went from floor to ceiling (actually a few barriers on top of each other). Behind all of that is a large set of spiral stairs, winding up into the ceiling. A bit of natural light can be seen through the opening.

There is nothing else of note in the room.

Tratain opens a portable hole and starts loading it. Whoever casts detect magic can immediately see that the queen's longswords emit some fairly strong magical auras. They are large-sized.

Tratain has the taur bodies loaded in as well, planning to deal with them at a safer time.

Vedik asks the halfling who he is, and warns him to answer quickly and honestly.

THe halfling, for his part, identifies himself as Dwight, and alludes to some sort of capture that brought him here. He hovers on his broom, a bit nervous, as if he is is contemplating a quick getaway.

Arien takes a moment to clean himself off with a handkerchief, though the effort is akin to damming a river with pebbles. Still mostly bloody, he introduces himself to Dwight.

Jova comes into the room to see what is going on. [assume either you or Tratain dispelled the blade barrier, there are no dangerous effects going on. Not sure if Arien dismissed the wall of force or not]

Monthor does a hasty introduction, then demands to know where the demons may have teleported. CLearly, the blood-lust is still strong in the dwarf.

Draax silently mourns his lost friends, but his attitude is one of acceptance. He helps load their bodies, then introduces himself to Dwight.

The area is calm and quiet, much like after a storm. Demon bodies litter the floor, and blood of red, green, and black is splattered almost everywhere you look.

There is the door you entered through, and the stairs across the room. It is an open stairway not touching any wall. It spirals upward, through the ceiling, seemingly to outside air. Perhaps the mysteriously-appearing halfling knows more of this?

[free posting so introductions, discussions, etc. can be done with the new PC. Don't worry about sticking to 1/day, just talk away and tell me when you have a plan of action.]

Now that the Veil spell is gone Dwight sees A human armored in Full Plate. He stands just under 6 feet tall, His hair is cut very short and he is clean shaven. An adamantite Warhammer is held in his left hand, a soft white glow emanating from it. A simple shield rests on his other arm. Over his armor you can clearly see Vestments Proclaiming his faith in the God of Courage Domi, His Holy Symbol a Masterfully Carved Warhammer made of Mithril is clearly visable as well.

Tratain looks at the young halfling and says "Dwight was it? We are grateful for your assistance against the Demon Queen, it was bravely done. You could have run but you stayed and fought with us, anyone willing to stand against that evil has more than eared our respect. I would suggest that you stick with us for now, you find yourself now in the cursed City of Fae Skymir. A very bad place to be either by accident or on purpose. I fear it will take all of us to win our way free of this place."

He continues "I assume the Mariliths Treasure Horde is up those steps? If you could lead us there and share what you know of the room and any traps or defenses set up there."

He tells the Party "We need to hurry, We don't know if the other two Mariliths are up there taking things as we speak, or if they will return soon with reinforcements. We also don't know when the other powers in this evil place will realize that we have slain the Demon queen and come for what was hers. Let us quickly take anything of Value in this Tower get out as fast as we can. We can rest outside."

Tratain then pulls out two wands and Heals Monthor and Vedik and casts Align weapon Good on Monthors Axe. (Monthor Heals 24, Your Ability damage was cured by the Heal spell earlier. He heals Vedik for 17.)

He then Directs the Party up the step or whichever way Dwight indicates the way to the Treasure horde is, keeping an eye out for any hidden places hidden by magic while his True seeing is active and also for more mundane hiding places. Once there Tratain will direct the taking of anything that looks Valuable and storing it in the Portable Hole and other Various extradimensional storage bags that the group has brought with them.

If the group encounters either of the Two Mariliths Tratain will Immedietly Dimensional Anchor it. Range Touch = 34, Check to Penetrate Spell Resistance = 30.

The old dwarf calms a bit, regarding the halfling with a puzzled expression.

"I'm Vedik, Fixer of Alemi, not that most know what that is. Well met. How did you come to be all the way in here? Surely you didn't walk into this cursed place alone!"

He lowers to the floor, and sees to Monthor's wounds.

"Monthor's right to keep moving. There's supposed to be a treasure here, and those demons might be picking through it. We came to do a mission, and we do not honor our fallen friends if we let the mission fail because we wasted time after a fight."

He looks to Tratain, waiting for the order to proceed.

Dwight
Wednesday January 30th, 2008 7:19:07 PM

Dwight nods to each in turn as they introduce themselves. He returns a 'innocent' smile to Monthar and says, "You see me as nature intended, and the elements have maintained." He pauses, and then unable to contain himself, "your true form is only a slight improvement of the illusion."

Once out of his lips he quickly changes the subject. "Yes, up the steps, not far. When I first escaped, I looked around a bit and found only the treasure. Luckily my gear was there. I was heading down, when I came across this battle."

"At the time I was upstairs, it was empty, though I did little to draw attention to myself."

Remaining on this broom, Dwight floats to the steps and leads on. The bow slides back into his hand.

Lumi-Juova (dead)
Wednesday January 30th, 2008 9:20:06 PM

compelled forward, Lumi feels as if he is a single drop of blood falling towards the trickle of Woldsblood that only he seems to be able to notice. The bloody scene in the tower fades from his perception and opening before him is an infinite feeling of welcome and peace.

If the drop that is the essence of Lumi still had a body, he would weep for joy as he joins his family at long last in the the Lands of Rest...

Jova 70/70 HP 21 AC [Mage Armor, Darkvision]-Stoneskin-Grtr Hero, See Invis 10min
Thursday January 31st, 2008 6:14:20 AM

Jova finally gets into the battle room. Bllod, gore, ichor cover everything. What a mess. His friends had really done a job this time. Then he sees the crumpled body of the centaur.

Jova rushes to Horvis's side. In mid run he encounters the wall of force he has forgotten, and abruptly falls to his back with a ummph. He does hang on to his staff, although he clatters loudly on the floor. Gathering his wits, he wills himself into the air, and flies over the barrier.

Jova lands at the centaurs side. Bloody side. The poor beast had really suffered. He wondered to himself if Horvis was dead or alive. Glancing around, the others are milling about, talking to the halfling. Jova cocks his head, in obvious wonderment. [italic] Surely someone had tried to heal the noble one. [/italic]

Jova produces a wand from his pack and taps the centaur 3 times with it. Either the wand was not working, or the effect was lost. Jova drops to his knees. Jova reaches out and caresses the shoulder of the fallen druid. What could he say? or do? Maybe Lumi was strong enough to heft the body out to ressurect Horvis at later time.

Jova hears Tratain shouting orders, that they needed to continue the expedition. Jova knows the centaur would want a piece of the Marilith for his totmne bag. So Jova flies over to the fallen beast and gathers several of the bloody scales. Jova had seen Horvis, and other Taurs collect pieces of their foes for the totm bags, so he knew what to get.

Jova carried the tresure over to Horvis, and finds his bag. Opening it, Jova places some of the scaly skin inside. Closing the bag he helps Tratain and the others place the centaur into the magical bag. His concern that Lumi carry the centaur alleviated. Jova looks around, oddly at a loss for something. Or someone. The striped wemic was nowhere to be found.

Out of the cvorner of his eye, the white and black crumpled body, lies motionless. Jovas mind races.

"Nooooo!!!" The sensation of complete dread fills the sorcerer. Slowly merchanically Jova moves to the wemics side. As though he leaves his body he watchews himself fall to the ground. Slowly he reaches out, trying to find the heartbeat, one to which he knew would not be there.

Jova's hand clssps a clump of fur. Then the other hand. Desperation fills the human as there is no life coming from the liontaur. Life. Lumi was life. The hunter was life in itself. And now his blood was soaking the stones of this evil place. Not being able to control himself, tears begin flowing down his cheeks. Jova mutters incoherently. Jova then pounds the dead friendss body, angered frustration taking him over.

Slowly, as he comes back to the real world, Jova finds himself placing part of the Marilith into Lumi's totem bag as well. Then Jova falls back onto his but, legs spraweled forward. Hre vsn not move. Or will not move. As the others continue to gather the items, and dead, Jova just sits, muttering.

"Wunjo....wunjo....wunjo..."

Up and On
Thursday January 31st, 2008 4:12:25 PM

Introductions are made all around.

Afterward, Tratain orders the group forward and up, to seek out the demons or their hoard.

Dwight indicates that the treasure hoard is somewhere above the steps, and floats up on his broom.

Meanwhile, Jova enters the room and is let down by the site of Horvis' body. Then he spies Lumi, and collapses on the floor, unable to contain his frustration and anger any longer. After some consolation by Monthor, he moves on with the group.

Heading up the spiral stair, the Knights find themselves on an enormous landing the size of the room below. Smooth flagstones line the floor, and there are no walls to speak of, simply open air.

The ever-present fog lines the sky, although things appear somewhat different. The dark, thick smoke forms a dome around the tower-top, with you inside. It is impossible to see through the fog, though somehow, there is light inside the dome. The air around you is crisp and clean, albeit a bit colder than on the ground.

Ahead, you can see an identical flagstone patio, circular, and the same size as this one. A wide stone bridge connects the two. On the far patio is another set of stairs, leading down into the tower.

To your right is a strange contraption. What appears to be a bed made of more stone stands alone. Above it, balanced by a series of pipes, is a large glass ball, over 2 feet in diameter, with purple smoke inside. Part of the ball is cracked, and the smoke is seeping out. It makes its way up, and the fog parts to let it through.

On the stone bed are some ropes, now cut.

On the far landing, you see one of the mariliths.

This one, however, appears to be dead. Two longswords protrude from its still, scaley body. One sticks out from its torso, and another is driven through its neck into the flagstone beneath.

A few gold and platinum coins, dark red rubies and blue-green sapphires are scattered around the body.

Tratain
Thursday January 31st, 2008 6:10:09 PM

At the top of the Tower Tratain looks around with his True Seeing to see if anything is concealed by magic or if there are any Enemies hidden by Magic. He glances curiously at the Orb noting its location for later.

Tratain says quietly "I guess we go that Direction" indicating past the fallen Marilith "They must have taken to fighting each other, Vedik we will need a Silence spell so that we might sneak up on it. If it is looting the Treasure room we might be able to come upon it unaware."

Once the Silence is in place Tratain leads everyone across the bridge within the silence sphere. Again, if the Marilith comes into view he will cast DImensional Anchor on it. Stepping out of the Silence sphere or just casting it if Vedik is quicker with getting rid of the focus for the Silence spell.

Tratain (2nd)

Dwight
Thursday January 31st, 2008 10:31:57 PM

Dwight looks around the room, though he had been in this room before. He wonders what exact action caused the orb to break, and if the escaping gas could have any postive effect.

He listens to Tratain request about a detect magic, and complies by casting one of his own.

He first looks to the slaughter demon and the swords and announces what he sees.

While we know the orb is magical, Dwight slowly looks in the orbs direction as well, hoping not to be overwhelmed (his broom flutters just above the floor) he studies it and finds out what he can.

Jova hangs back. Lost in his own thoughts, he peers over the side, into the haze.

"We mustnt forget the large disdappearing spiders we met outside. They could return."

He smiles to himself having actually said something that might matter. The fog looks soft fronmm here, the question enters his mind, should I jump?

Across the Rooftops
Saturday February 2nd, 2008 2:32:31 PM

Tratain looks around, but doesn't see anything hidden, even with his magically enhanced vision.

[you aren't in a room, you are on a rooftop. Dwight's mention of "room" made me think it might not have been clear]

Dwight casts detect magic. You don't detect any magic on the marilith, nor do you see any signs of a magical trap. The only aura you detect is one coming from the cracked glass sphere. Focusing for a moment, you determine that the sphere, or more likely the smoke inside it, is emanating some sort of abjuration aura, although the aura is warped. It isn't like any abjuration magic you've ever seen before. It almost feels as if the magic were twisted, or inverted, somehow.

Arien bides his time, holding his magic back in case of more urgent need ahead.

Monthor watches his surroundings warily, expressing some concern over the smoke and the fog.

Tratain also studies the orb, but can't discern anything more useful about it. It certainly has no specific religious significance that he can come up with.

Nor can Vedik tell anything more, although a quick inspection tells him that the pipes are simply a stand for the glass orb, and don't seem to do anything but support it.

He casts a silence spell so that the Knights can sneak up on anything waiting ahead.

Draax, not trusting the scene, stabs the Marilith a few times more. Its death is confirmed. No blood spews forth, but simply drips out, congealing around the areas of the wounds.

Jova reminds the group of the demon spiders the Knights encountered outside, then looks over the side. He can only see about 30 feet down before the fog obscures all sight.

After the silence is in place, Tratain leads the Knights over the bridge and to the staircase.

Walking down the stairs, you find yourselves entering a smaller room than the one in which you fought the demons. About 30 feet on a side, it is a small, dimly lit square room. There do not appear to be any doors, windows, or other exits aside from the stairway.

But what immediately catches everyone attention is the glint and sparkle of gold. Everywhere you look, you see chests of coins and gems, racks of shining swords, and shelves of ancient books and tomes.

A few of the chests nearby are half-empty, coins and gems scattered about the floor as if snatched up hastily.

Tratain sees nothing out of the ordinary with his true seeing. Dwight detects magical auras from various sources: weapons, staves, even a few of the chests seem to have something magical inside.

There is nothing else in the room that can be seen.

As you look around in bewilderment (having never seen so much treasure in one place before), you hear a loud banding sound from outside.

BOOM...

BOOM...

If anyone runs up the stairs, you see nothing different than before, and nothing that would explain the noise.

Tratain stands in awe at the amount of wealth that the Marilith had manages to amass. When the Loud booming sounds are heard he leads the others back outside quickly.

When nothing is evident he says "Vedik and Arien go try and examine that Orb, try and see what it does, at the Very least Try and determine if it is safe for us to move and take with us. Dwight, I'd Like you to stay at the top of the stairs to the Treasure room and Keep an eye out for us. If anything comes upon Vedik and Arien call to us at once. Monthor follow's Tratain's orders and uses his haversack to load up treasure. He first concentrates on gathering up the magic items, then gems, then coins. "

Moving Quickly?
Monday February 4th, 2008 7:06:55 PM

As the loud banging is heard, Vedik reacts quickly. He rushes to the glass sphere and draws forth a few precious drops of woldsblood. For a fleeting moment, he wonders if any part of this contains a bit of Lumi's, or Horvis', essence.

Pushing the thought from his mind, he applies the woldsblood and quickly repairs the glass. The orb is now intact, and the remainder of the smoke is trapped inside, where it swirls aimlessly.

Tratain posts Dwight on the stairs while sending Arien with Vedik. He then takes the others to start loading treasure.

Jova recalls that Verash requested a set of books, quite possibly located on the shelves in this room.

Monthor hands a feather token to Dwight, explaining the highly useful result of throwing the coin to the ground.

Draax helps fill bags with treasure, cautiously but quickly organizing magical and mundane as best he can.

Dwight floats vigilantly at the top of the steps, keeping both eyes and both ears open. He doesn't see or hear anything other than what the group previously experienced.

Arien examines the orb while Vedik works on it. He cannot discern much more than previously. It does seem that the smoke is some sor tof by-product, possibly the result of whatever experiment was going on here (or intended to go on before the Knights interrupted). What that experiment might have been, or how the smoke was ever produced, he has no idea.

The treasure loaders work as quickly as possible, throwing everything they can into the portable hole and every other bag in the Knights' possession.

Finally, every possible container is bulging with coins, gems, and various artifacts. It is hard to imagine how the group will even carry all of the booty.

All told, you collect the following:

Taken from Marilith's Body
6 large magic longswords
1 magic ring (forgot this before)

Taken from Treasure Room
Magic Greataxe (medium)
Magic Staff
Crystal Ball
Magic Bastard Sword (medium)
Magic heavy steel shield (large)
Magical drums
2 magic longswords (large)

2 books radiating magic (don't look like spell books)
large collection of rare and precious-looking books

45 star sapphires
82 star rubies
34 black pearls
104 aquamarines
67 garnets

22,649 platinum pieces
123, 501 gold pieces

As some of the Knights pack everything into containers and consider how best to carry the load, Dwight's vigilance pays off. He hears a voice in the distance (from somewhere over the edge of the tower wall).

"XANAPHELAS! I feel you weakening, witch! The time has come for me to bring your tower down!" the voice booms.

As Dwight (and others, if they choose) listens, he can hear a low rumbling in the distance.

Tratain  d20=20
Monday February 4th, 2008 7:50:19 PM

As the Group finishes packing up all the treasure into the Portable Hole and other Bags of Holding Tratain is finally able to mentally tally what the group has just taken and is stunned for a moment.

When the Voice Calls out Tratain listens (Int Check Natural 20!) for a moment and says "It is time for us to leave. It sounds like some sort of Army is marching on the Tower now. Jova I'll need you to cast fly on those of us who can't fly ourselves. We're going over the side of the Tower. Directly away from those coming for the Tower. If they're between us and the Gate we'll swing out wide of them and back onto the streets we know are safe thanks to our Map. I really hope with that Army on the Move everything else in the City will be hiding and won't bother us. We need to move as quickly as we can for the gate out."

He Continues "Once whoever that is, and I'm assuming is one of the Other Major Powers here in the city, finds out that we've killed Xanaphelas its going to come looking for whoever did it. We need to be out of the City before he can bring that army he's got into contact with us."

Monthor shoulders as many of the bags as he can carry while flying.

" Me boots will only let me fly 10 more minutes... Me'll let you figure out if me needs a spell or not. "

" Lead on Tratain. Ready to go when you are. "

Dwight
Monday February 4th, 2008 9:56:11 PM

Dwight looks upward and wonders if there is a barrier preventing their escape by flight as Tratain suggests. He saw the orb's midst float away, but knows flesh is much more delicate.

Having relayed the message, he moves over to the dead demon, slicing a piece of wing, ear or whatever that is easily cut off, he throws it at the 'ceiling'. Surely there must be something there, else this area would be covered in midst itself.

"What of the orb?" Dwight asks. "Do we really want to leave it for the army? Perhaps, we should roll it off the ledge and destroy it," Dwight offers noncommitmently.

-------

Meanwhile, high in the sky, Dwight senses the location of his eagle.

Tratain - Addition
Monday February 4th, 2008 10:00:14 PM

OOC: Oops, just so we're clear, we're taking the Orb if Vedik and Arien say that its safe. And Tratain plans to go down the side of the Tower after going off the Bridge between the two topmost towers.

Jova
Monday February 4th, 2008 11:12:51 PM

"Ok, I can cast the fly spell on most of us, and I have an extra potion as well. But with Ariens teleport spell and your recall spell, it would be better to leave that way. Then there is no trace of us, and noone to have hunting us. We teleport back to Verashs cabin.

"If not, I will cast the fly spells."

Draax  d20+1=9
Tuesday February 5th, 2008 12:03:58 AM

If needed Draax will carry as many bags as he can and still fly comfortably. He takes his last potion of flying. "I am ready to go."

Vedik(AC 29(31 v evil)) 117/163 HP)
Tuesday February 5th, 2008 7:28:37 AM

Vedik picks up the Orb now that it is repaired, carrying it to the stairs carefully.

"Is there room in the hole for this? Carrying it might be tricky."

Tratain
Tuesday February 5th, 2008 4:33:10 PM

Tratain says "There should be Plenty of Room for it in the Hole or One of the Other Bags or Haversacks."

OOC: I'm pretty sure we Can fit everything in our extradimensional Bags. He have at least 1 if not 2 Bags of Holding Type 2, each will hold about 25,000 coins. Theres Probably 3 or 4 Haversacks that can hold Over 5,000 coins. And we Have the Portable Hole which is a 6 foot around 10 Foot Deep Hole, I'm assuming at the Minimum it will hold twice as much as the Largest Bag of Holding which will Hold which puts it around 150,000 coins give or take.

Dwight
Tuesday February 5th, 2008 10:15:56 PM

Hearing the Booms and seeing the orb safeguarded, Dwight attempts to take a peek at the oncoming army.

Staying close to the edge/floor, he looks downward (without touching the 'wall'). The thick midst quickly dulls everything to gray, but he continues looking for a light source or to localize the noise.

At a moments notice, he is ready to depart with the others.

Arien

"I will carry the Orb in my haversack should it fit, otherwise carrying it would seem to be the only other course."

On the Run
Wednesday February 6th, 2008 8:30:07 AM

[OOC: I'm so sorry. I completely forgot to post last night. Woke up at 3am and remembered somehow...]

Tratain prepares the group to head directly over the side of the tower and down to the street, bypassing the inner rooms completely.

Making a final check for anything hidden or previously overlooked, you find nothing more than what you've already seen.

Monthor prepares to activate his boots, grabs as many bags as possible, and prepares to fly out.

Dwight worries about passing through the fog, then comments on the orb. It is decided to take the glass ball with you when you leave.

Dwight feels the presence of his familiar high above, on the other side of the fog. At the very least, the fog doesn't seem to block that connection. The eagle, circling overhead, feels very, very scared about something. [you can't actually communicate with it, right?]

Jova mentions the possibility of teleporting, but it seems such spells are not prepared at the moment. He does have ample flying magic to apply to his comrades.

Draax grabs more of the bags, and readies his flying potion as well.

Arien volunteers to carry the orb in his own haversack to keep it safe. Vedik carries the repaired orb to him and puts it inside, packing it safely and tightly.

[Tratain, I'm assuming you can hold everything plus the bodies. I'm not big on exact carrying capacity, space, etc. Heroes don't worry about how much fits in their pockets, where and when to pee, etc. I just assume it works]

Dwight attempts to see over the edge of the tower, but the fog blocks all view outward, above and below.

Potions are consumed, boots and brooms are activated, and spells are cast. Within seconds, all of you are floating a few inches above the floor, ready to go.

Without further delay, the group streaks over the side of the central bridge and downward. You break through the fog without trouble and behold a city in turmoil.

A few blocks to the south, a group of blue-green ogres is trying to fight off an enormous blob of goo. Two ogres are already stuck inside.

A group of more than 15 humanoids, each at least 12 feet tall, with red-brown skin, makes its way over some rubble towrad the tower from the southwest.

Screams, bangs and clashes can be heard in the distance in every direction, as if a hundred minor battles were going on around the city.

Worst of all, walking down the wide thoroughfare from the north is a fairly large mounted cavalry unit. What appears to be the leader was probably once a man. His skin is now drawn tight to his bones, with gaping holes in some places. Sinewy tendons stretch between his jointed bones. His face and skin are a pale, greyish color. A golden helmet sits atop his head.

He rides on a jet-black horse. The beast has red eyes, and reddish streaks of fur streak down its neck and back. It's hoofs are made of pure fire.

Behind him is a motley assortment of zombies and ghouls. Men wrapped in white bandages carry whips, and employ them at will to push the zombie riders onward.

Behind them in the distance, you can barely make out a troop of skeletal foot soldiers, though from this distance an exact count is impossible.

Floating above the heads of the lord and his army are countless wispy shapes, dark, man-shaped beings flashing in and out of existence, sometimes visible and solid, sometimes completely gone.

As you fly out of the fog and downward, the lead rider calls out again, "Outsiders! Behold, the queen has fallen indeed! Onward, scum. Take from them what shall be mine!"

He draws a wickedly curved, serrated blade and points it toward the tower, accelerating his demonic horse.

Knowledge (religion) DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {None of these are hard to identify. The lead rider appears to be a lich. Zombies, ghouls, mohrgs and mummies ride behind him, with skeletons on foot behind that. Overhead fly nightshades, shadows and spectres. The lord rides a pretty large Nightmare (more planes than religion, but whatever). This is likely the undead army Haveril warned of}

The Knights are airborne, about halfway down the tower (I assume 50 feet above ground, but if you would have flown farther or less far, say so).

The closes enemies are the fire giants, who are a block away to the south. The riders to the north are 3 blocks away and galloping. The gate to which you delivered Haveril, Dorbun and the others is about 1 mile south, then 1.5 miles east. Going directly diagonal (i.e., not following streets) would be a total distance of 1.8 miles.

I leave it to you to specify how far you want to travel, how far you CAN travel with the fly spells (rate of travel per round, etc.), and/or what conditions would make you stop, etc.

Sorry again for the delay, but I will post again tonight if everyone posts today.

Monthor
Wednesday February 6th, 2008 1:30:00 PM

Monthor follow's Tratain's lead but suggestes that the quickest way between 2 points is a straight line.

" We're in no shape to take on this army boys. Let's boot it back across the gate, prepare for undeads, and then come back to clean the place out. "

Dwight
Wednesday February 6th, 2008 4:16:28 PM

Dwight nods in agreement to Monthor's plan, though he wonders how much of a vote he actually has.

Not actually knowing where the gate is, Dwight takes to the rear, and pulls his bow out as well.

Vedik (AC 29(31 v evil)) 117/163 HP)
Wednesday February 6th, 2008 4:16:42 PM

Vedik follows the party towards the gate, moving as quick as the slowest member.

He keeps an eye on the lich, hoping for the opportune moment.

Vedik also takes a moment to cast a quick spell, holding the spell.

OOC:

Tratain AC 28 HP 114/119
Wednesday February 6th, 2008 9:04:29 PM

Tratain nods at Monthor and Vedik as he casts the spell. He says "We're going for the Gate, fly as fast as we can together, don't get seperated. We'll see in a minute which of them can keep up and which undeads can't. It'll be best if we can just outrun them and we'll try and use the buildings to block their vision of us and try and lose them. Arien, Haste us again, we'll need the Extra speed to try and put some distance between us."

Tratain leads the group as straight as possible and as fast as possible towards the Gate out. The group Drops down below the level of most of the buildings trying to use them to block the party from view of the lich and his minions. Tratain pulls out the Last mass heal Scroll as the party makes a break for the gate.

OOC: The Party stopping is Unlikely, We may slow down briefly for either Vedik or Tratain to heal if its necessary, or for Jova to redo the fly on those that used potions instead of getting it cast on them. Stopping to confront the Lich is unlikely unless he gets pretty close, say within 60ish feet or so and doesn't have many minions with him and we'll decide then.

With Ariens Haste the Group Travels at 140 Feet Per round for 16 Rounds, Then it Drops to 80 Feet Per round after that, so 12ish Minutes to the Gate?

Jova
Wednesday February 6th, 2008 11:20:31 PM

Concentrating on flying in a group was posing difficlties. All of them seemed to be going at different speeds, and wobbling and whatnot. They surely were not practiced in the movement. Jova decides to fly to the left of the group. That eay anyone needing to drawe a weapon would not turn to their right and hit him on accident.

It was then he spotted the lich oh the horse. No horse was not correct. Magnificent beast. Jova had seen one many years ago, and fell completely in awee. It had been a orc back then, riding a nightmare into a raid. A raid that nearly killed all of the merchants guards. The nightmare alone had killed many.

This one however looked like an adult compared to the other in his past. Jova yearned for the saddle. Yearned for the feeling of the horse under him. Nothing compared to riding, nothing. Jova had often dreamed of entering a cavalry regiment. His fighting skills had alweays made it improbable.

Oh how Jova wished they could stop and study the beast further. In a different world mayve he be allowed to run the beast. Such was not to be.

Reality comes crashing back as a bug suishes its life juices all over his cheeeks. He has to rub the mucus away before it enters his mouth.

Arien

Following directions, Arien hastes the party and then continue flying in formation.

Flying Out
Thursday February 7th, 2008 6:14:50 PM

Monthor uncharacteristically recommends moving on without a fight. He suggests flying straight toward the gate.

Dwight agrees, and takes a place at the rear of the group.

Vedik follows as well, watching the lich lord. [opportune moment? I'm not sure what to describe since I don't know what Vedik is looking for]

Tratain gives some quick directions for the Knights' travel to the outer gate, hoping to outrun any enemies that may be nearby.

[12 minutes sounds good to me]

Draax flies along with the group, keeping an eye open for dangers. [see below for what you spot]

Jova glides a bit left to avoid bumping with his companions. He floats in awe of the Nightmare for a few moments, an almost wistful look on his face.

He sighs as he watches the beast gallop, then comes swiftly out of his reverie as a large, rather juicy big squishes itself against his face.

Shaking his head, he resumes his flight along with the group.

Arien gives the Knights some extra-fast movement, and everyone flies on.

As a whole, the Knights soar southeast over the rooftops of Fae Skiemir.

The undead army charges toward the tower, but does not continue past it. The lich lord stops his horse and watches as you fly into the distance, but his minions focus on Xanaphelas' tower. Some of the more ghostly o his followers continue south to swarm over the fire giants, and another small battle erupts, the giants quickly getting the worst of the deal.

The scene dwindles as you streak southeast. Draax, the self-appointed lookout, watches the horizons intently.

Draax Highlight to display spoiler: {In the distance to the south, something catches your eye. It is hard to make out due to the countless billows of fog, but something rather large comes into view for the briefest of instants before disappearing again behind a tall building. The shape is nothing more than a large blur, black or dark blue in color, and following after it is something long and thin, whipping in the air before being obscured by fog again.}

The group flies for about two minutes, when a hail of arrows erupts below. The volley looks like it was intended for the Knights, though the archers are either unskilled or hasty, as the arrows turn and plummet back down well before recahing you.

Hearing some yelling, you look down to see a large brigade of humanoids, most with bows of varying size pointed toward the sky. Humans, elves and dwarves, though all appear twisted and deformed, as if their bodies were warped by some strange disease.

Many run after you, following beneath and shouting, waving axes and short-swords while their brethren load another volley of arrows to their bows.

Time elapsed since tower: 2 minutes 30 seconds

Tratain AC 28 HP 114/119
Thursday February 7th, 2008 7:29:25 PM

Tratain keeps flying for the Gate as fast as he can. He calls out "Don't bother stopping for any of these guys, we need to get out of here pretty quick. I have a plan to get us across a pretty decent chunk of the distance we need to travel. When we get closer I'll pass some scrolls out."

He continues "oh, you don't have a Hewards Haversack or a Bag of Holding or the like do you dwight?"

Draax  d20+7=13 d20+3=11
Thursday February 7th, 2008 8:37:15 PM

Draax speeds up a little to match his flight speed with Tratain; he talks to Tratain but also loud enough for everyone to hear, He does not point or make any gestures in the direction of the large blur. "Hey Tratain, I am pretty sure I just saw a large very dark something in the fog to the south and I think it had a tail. I only saw it for a second before it disappeared back into the fog. I have no idea what it could be or which direction it went once it was back into the fog. Everyone should keep their eye open in front of us as well as behind."

After giving his warning to the others Draax drops back into his normal place in the order and continues to scans the area and his eyes will often go back to the area where he observed the unknown creature.

Vedik (AC 29(31 v evil)) 117/163 HP)
Thursday February 7th, 2008 9:50:14 PM

Vedik flies fast, trying to keep the distance from the lich. He looks down at his hand, flexing it and pondering the power of the spell he holds.

He peers behind him after hearing Draxx's warning, fearing he might know what it is that's back there. He prays he's wrong, and speeds up a little.

OOC: Still holding the charge on the Heal spell.

Jova
Friday February 8th, 2008 5:33:11 AM

Jova continues to concentrate on the flight. He goes over his spells, trying to figure out what is left.

Still Flying
Friday February 8th, 2008 4:54:06 PM

Tratain pushes on, ignoring the impotent warriors below. Monthor follows behind, along with Dwight.

Draax flies forward a bit and relates to the group what he's seen to the south. He continues to look out, but doesn't see anything else of note.

Arien flies along, worrying a bit about all the magical "trackers" the group is carrying.

Vedik keeps a spell ready in his hand, and speeds up a bit, worrying himself over what Draax may have seen, while Jova runs through his spells, in case any are needed.

The warriors below quickly fall behind, left waiving their weapons and shouting meaningless noises at you. Some even look sad that you've flown past.

You fly on a few more minutes, judging that you must be half way to the gate by now.

Anyone with true seeing, see invisibility, etc. Highlight to display spoiler: { Suddenly, you see what some of you dreaded since Draax made his report: out of the fog to the south, an enormous black dragon flies directly toward you, a wicked grin on its face (it obviously assumes you can't see it). The jet black, scaly body is stretched and elongated for the fastest flight possible. A pair of yellowed horns come from the top of its brow and curve forward, and its jagged face appears almost skull-like. It's body is about 15 feet long, though with tail and neck, that length is easily doubled. Not as big as the crystal dragon, Phaedrus, that you met the other day, but still quite a bit larger than most you've seen.

You estimate that at its current speed, it's going to reach you in about 15 seconds.
}

Tratain AC 28 HP 114/119 True Seeing
Saturday February 9th, 2008 12:52:20 PM

As the Group Flies on Tratain is luckily able to see the Black Dragon Approaching, His eyes go wide at its size and appearance.

Tratain reaches into his Pants O' Plenty and Pulls out 5 Scrolls in each hand shouting to his Companions "Theres a Big Black Dragon comming at us! It'll be here very soon. Arien and Jova, take these Dimension Door Scrolls. Cast them one right after the other and keep us heading for the Gate!"

He Yells to Monthor and Draax "Monthor, Draax! Theres one person here too many for the scrolls to be able to take all of us. You need to stuff Dwight in Draax's Bag of Holding, He the Lightest! Monthor Give him that Necklace that you wear so he can breath in there, hurry and don't let his Haversack go into the Bag of Holding."

Tratain Hands over the Scrolls to Jova and Arien and then goes over to help get Dwight in the bag. He says "Sorry Dwight, this will only be for a minute, you should be fine and its better than being eaten by a Dragon." and Grabs Dwights Haversack and Broom while Monthor and Draax "Help" Dwight into the Bag.

Once The Group is ready the 5 Dimension Door Scrolls each cast by Arien and Jova should cover most of the Rest of the Distance to the Gate.

Vedik(AC 29(31 v evil)) 117/163 HP)
Saturday February 9th, 2008 2:46:17 PM

The ominous warning from Tratain furrows Vedik's brow.

"Hand me one of those scrolls Tratain. If it catches us I have a plan."

Vedik flies close to Dwight and calls out "If ya got any bags of holding or other special magic storage things, I'll hold em for you. Hurry!"

Dwight
Sunday February 10th, 2008 8:41:43 PM

Dwight is completely caught by surprise as the group 'volunteers' him to be stuffed in a bag while holding his recently found equipment.

"is this really?," he begins as he quickly looks for and considers the fact that he can't see this supposed dragon. "unbelieveable," he exclaims as he hands his sack over to Vedik.

Waiting for this supposed necklace, Dwight succumbs to the submersion. "How humiliating, its just not...." he mumbles as the cord is closed.

OOC: That just ain't right! :)

Monthor
Sunday February 10th, 2008 10:17:52 PM

Monthor hands the necklace over to Dwight, stuffs his new little buddy in the portable hole and waits for the others to Dimension Door him away.

{ Me'll be back for ye dragy... oh yes, me will... }

Draax
Sunday February 10th, 2008 11:15:01 PM

Hearing Tratain's warning, Draax turns his head trying to see the Dragon, although he cannot see it, he has no doubt that it is coming after the party.

Draax opens his bag of holding and help Dwight inside. "Don't worry I will let you out as soon as I can." Once Dwight safely in the bag, Draax closes the bag and waits for the others to do their thing.

Tratain (2nd)
Monday February 11th, 2008 8:44:18 AM

Tratain says "Draax and Monthor, grab onto Arien. Vedik and I will go with Jova. Go quickly."

Poof
Monday February 11th, 2008 8:02:34 PM

[Haven't seen Arien or Jova post, but I'm going to assume they cast the spells, since I need to get the post in]

Tratain immediately sees the invisible dragon streaking toward the Knights. Scrolls are broken out and the casters quickly prepare to teleport the group to safety.

Before he even knows what is happening, Dwight is manhandled into a bag, a thin tube put in place to let him breath. He figures it must be some sort of hazing ritual to join this illustrious group...

To the south, the dragon must have realize something is going on, because it gives its scaly wings a great flap and speeds up, trying to reach you in time.

Arien and Jova grab their companions and begin to cast the spells.

"WAIT!" the dragon's booming voice calls out. "I HAVE A BARGAIN FOR -"

POOFThe group disappears in a cloud of smoke...

POOF...reappearing again hundreds of paces further southeast. The dragon is now far behind you, though now visible, hovering where the Knights recently departed.

Looking around, it spies you and begins flying in your direction, albeit at a slower pace and without attempting to hide itself.

[I'm not clear, do you keep using the scrolls until you reach the gate or they run out?]

Tratain AC 28 HP 114/119 True Seeing
Monday February 11th, 2008 8:29:44 PM

Tratain says "Keep going. Theres 4 more scrolls to cast each. I don't have any interest in listening to that Dragon. It's probably a Trick to get us to stop so it can attack us. We're not prepared to face it if it tries something. Lets just keep going to the gate, the scrolls should take us all or most of the way to the Gate."

OOC: Theres 4 more scrolls for each Arien and Jova. We keep casting them until we reach the gate or they run out, whichever comes first.

Dwight
Monday February 11th, 2008 10:10:36 PM

So this is what a pickles feels like, floating in the sea of nothingness. Dwight thinks to himself in the darkness.

He stretches out to feel for boundaries or walls and finds it unsettling nothing is within reach left, right, forward, backward, up or down.

Jova

Jova continues casting the spells from the scroll. Having now seen the enemy dragon, it seems easier to comply with Tratains wishes.

Arien
Tuesday February 12th, 2008 3:08:57 AM

Interested in the dragon's reaction but not trusting a creature that approaches by stealth Arien will keep using scrolls as needed to move the party along.

Vedik(AC 29(31 v evil)) 117/163 HP)
Tuesday February 12th, 2008 7:32:02 AM

Vedik moves with the party, staying close to his assigned dimension door caster. In a vague way, he wonders what the dragon looks like, how big it is, and what it's doing in this city. But it's the fact that it's in this city that is all the real information he needs to know not to trust it.

Monthor

Now that he is able to see the dragon, Draax has to agree with Tratain, "Even if the thing is sincere, what would happen if we listened and decided not to take its offer? Most likely it is after something we took from the demon. Its bargain will probably be to do what it says or die." Draax keeps an eye on the thing and also scans for any other surprises while he waits for the next jump.

To the Gates
Tuesday February 12th, 2008 7:19:00 PM

Tratain orders the group on, expending all of the scrolls if need be to reach the outer gates.

Dwight, meanwhile, has no idea what goes on outside. All he knows is that it is dark, overly spacious, and a bit uncomfortable in his current predicament.

Vedik spends a moment wondering about the dragon, but decides not to think too much on the subject, content to simply get away from it.

Monthor, true to form, sticks out his tongue and gives the dragon a raspberry. Though the great beast probably can't hear it this far, the effect, or at least the satisfaction to Monthor, is sufficient.

Draax opines on the black's purported offer, not trusting it very much at all.

Arien and Jova keep their assigned companions nearby and continue to cast their spells.

Poof

and poof

and finally, poof!

Within a few short moments, the dragon is fully out of sight and the gates are a mere few hundred feet ahead.

The Knights fly forward, deciding not to risk waiting a moment longer. Dwight is released from his confinement.

As you near the gates, the fog thickens just as before, as if preparing to bar your exit. But at the last moment, it parts. It almost appears reluctant to do so, if a fog could be said to have such an emotion.

Flying straight through the open gates, you streak across the short grassland, to find yourselves in the woods once again, not far from the spot you camped the night before.

You are outside the eastern wall of the city. Verash's hut was located outside of the southern wall, towards the western end (about 2/3 along the city from your end). If you pressed hard, you could reach his hut by nightfall today. It is early afternoon at this point.

Tratain
Tuesday February 12th, 2008 7:47:58 PM

Tratain breaths a sigh of relief when the group manages to exit the city.

He says "We should be able to reach Verash's by tonight. Lets go there and see if Phaedrus will let us spend the night again. We need to deliver the Books to Varash anyway, once we get them to him I bet he forgets we're there anyways. While we're there we can decide what to do with Lumi and Horvis's Bodies. Also Arien you can Identify all the Items we took from the Marilith and you can Vedik can take a look at that wierd orb in more detail, maybe Phaedrus and Varash will have some idea's on that as well."

Draax
Tuesday February 12th, 2008 8:30:46 PM

Draax reaches into the bag and pulls Dwight out. He nods his head in agreement as Tratain talks about continuing on to Varash's. "Yea, lets get going. Hopefully the fog will keep those creatures inside the city, but I would not like to bet my life on it."

Dwight
Tuesday February 12th, 2008 9:37:58 PM

Gasping for air, when he is finally returned to the light and living. Dwight passes a quick unhappy look to each of the party members. "Surely that isn't the proper way to make new friends, I hope a good meal is soon to follow after such an uncomfortable seclusion from reality." Dwight's tone isn't serious or stern, except about the meal part.

Seeing the grass, Dwight floats down and walks a bit, feeling the softness of the grass between his toes. "So where exactly are we going now, and what types of local dwellers should I be expecting; and be they friend or foe?"

Dwight then follows in the directions others lead.

Vedik(AC 29(31 v evil)) 117/163 HP)
Tuesday February 12th, 2008 9:49:18 PM

Vedik chuckles at Dwight. "You took that fairly well lad. Hopefully we won't have to resort to plan halfling in the bag too often." With that he gives a hearty laugh.

"A meal sounds good, and some ale.", he nods in agreement. "We're going to the home of a sage who gave us information on the city. Its safe to say they are friends, but I wouldn't make any sudden moves, his guardian doesn't take well to strangers."

OOC:
Theres a few actions I need to take after we arrive, but before we sleep. Just some woldsblood stuff. Not sure how much you're going to advance time in the next post so I thought I'd get it out there.

Jova
Wednesday February 13th, 2008 3:17:45 AM

Jova chuckles softly at the halflings mention of a meal. Was the little man offering himself? Jova cannot hide the mirth in his belly. As they walk on, he laughs repeatedly. Silence, then bursts of laughter again.

"So Mr. Dwight, was Dorbun or Celeste your best friend?" Between fits of laughter he questions the halfling.

--Jova is a tall thunly built hunan. He is dresseds in leather clothes, with the leather duster length coat. Long blackish hair on his shoulders, keen hawklike eyes darting back and forth.

Arien
Wednesday February 13th, 2008 11:00:31 AM

"I would like to leave this place as soon as possible, let us press on then and seek Verash's home."

Monthor
Wednesday February 13th, 2008 1:57:18 PM

Monthor likes the idea of food. Better the idea of drinks. And best the idea of getting to Verash's as quickly as possible.

The dwarf puts a hairy, meaty, smelly hand on Dwight's shoulder.

" Don't worry little buddy. Me'll look after ye. If Tratain said that ye'd be safe in the bag, then me trusted him. Now, about this food.... "

Tratain (2nd)
Wednesday February 13th, 2008 2:26:20 PM

Tratain says "Sorry about that Dwight, we will see what we can do about that meal for you. With that Dragon approaching us invisible there was not time to ask. I figured that that would be the easiest way for all of us to get out of that City alive, the rest of us are too big and heavy to fit in the bag. I do hope it wasn't to uncomfortable."

He continues "We're going to the Sage Varesh's home, he was the one who suggested the Marilith as our target when we went to him as we were instructed by the consortium. He companion is named Phaedrus, she is a Dragon and is very protective of Varesh. We had to leave our weapons with her where we were there two days ago, I assume that we will have to do it again so don't be alarmed if she asks."

Vedik (2nd)
Wednesday February 13th, 2008 4:56:22 PM

Vedik scowls slightly at Tratain's words, and chuckles "You're no fun, ya a didn't have to ruin the surprise!"

To Verash
Wednesday February 13th, 2008 6:17:30 PM

Draax removes Dwight from the bag, and the halfling seems flustered, to say the least, though his humor is still intact. Vedik voices his assent at the suggestion of a meal.

Jova finds the entire situation quite funny, and laughingly questions Dwight on his recent past.

Arien desires to move on as fast as possible, and Monthor follows along, pressing Dwight about the food that may or may not have been offered, depending on exactly which words Monthor chose to hear.

No sooner has Tratain mentioned Phaedrus than a loud, but soft and melodic, voice is heard from overhead.

"My, my, but a dragon's ears do burn," the voice calls loudly.

Looking up, you see another enormous beast slowly spiraling downward out of the sky. The dragon is still over 200 feet high, but already you can discern the smooth, sleek lines of its shimmering body. Fifteen or more feet longer than the black, the dragon most of you easily recognize as Phaedrus floats down to land on the ground ahead of you.

By this time, you behold a familiar sight. Dwight, on the other hand, has his first opportunity to take in the majestic dragon: silvery, crystalline scales cover its body, a ridge of sharp spikes run down its back, looking for all the world like a row of carved crystals themselves.

She flaps her wings once, twice, sending a strong breeze over the Knights, then settles into a sitting position.

"So then, younglings, have you my Verash's prize? Hmm?"

She lowers a wing to the ground and continues, "If you do, by all means I offer you an easy ride. If you do not, I suggest you see your way back into yon city."

She smiles, if a dragon can be said to smile. Long rows of razor sharp teeth flash at you, and she could very well be airing out her jaws for a quick meal. But her entrancing voice puts you sufficiently at east to assume the latter is not the case.

Tratain
Wednesday February 13th, 2008 7:43:14 PM

Tratain looks up as Phaedrus Descends from the sky and says "We seem to be Dragon Magnets today, thats two in less than 15 minutes."

He says "Indeed we do have the books that Verash wanted, and we would be glad for the Ride. It has been a tough day. Would we be able to spend a day or two at Varesh's home before we head back through the portal? We have some items we would like to look over, and perhaps since Verash has studied the city in great detail, and you are certainly know more than we if we had any questions could we avail ourselves of what you know?"

Monthor
Wednesday February 13th, 2008 7:54:08 PM

:: Monthor smiles as the dragon lands. ::

" 'Sup Draggee. What's for supper? "

Dwight
Wednesday February 13th, 2008 9:13:05 PM

"Ah the bag wasn't as bad as I first thought. Perhaps when we get a chance Monthor, you can take a dip yourself." Dwight smiles a little until he notices the dragon. His hand instinctually goes to his bow, and then tries to pass it off as a stretch as the dragon seems to be recognized as a non-enemy. Dwight remains unsure if it could be called friend.

Dwight listens as the dragon speaks, and various party members confirm success of their mission. Then, before he can stop himself, he blurts out, "Phaedrus, what an honor to see such a mighty and knowledgeable dragon. Might I know the number of seasons that have passed since you were equal in size to myself? I, Dwight Twiggebundler, am just a few seasons under 100." He then stands in semi-awe of such a beast.

Draax
Wednesday February 13th, 2008 11:25:46 PM

Draax is glad that Phaedrus spoke to them before coming into view, he would have hated for the group to have attacked her because they mistaken her for the other dragon.

He is surprised at the way she mentioned the book, he did not know that the book was a requirement for their hospitality. Draax wonders what she would have done if they did not have the book and did not want to go back into the city, but he is glad that they do not have to find out.

Jova
Thursday February 14th, 2008 6:18:02 AM

Jova is now indaunted by the sight of a dragon. In the past few weeks he had seen no less than 3 different types. When Monthor asks the Dragon whats for supper, Jova says, "Obviously not halfling brains." At which poiny he breaks into a nother fit of laughter.

Dwight the halfling had not answered his question. Either it was unimportant, or maybve this yahoo wasnt really named DFwight. Elaborate illusion?? He would need to keep an eye out he decided.

Vedik(AC 29(31 v evil)) 117/163 HP)
Thursday February 14th, 2008 7:36:34 AM

"It would be an honor elder one" Vedik says at the offer of a ride, bowing his head slightly. He ponders the great beasts role in all this, but not for too long. Enjoying a dragon flight is not something to be undertaken while distracted by other thoughts.

Arien
Thursday February 14th, 2008 11:11:25 AM

"I thank you milady for your kind offer of transportation. As the younger races say, the day grows no younger. I propose that we leave now and have our conversations and queries at Verash's home, what say you?"

Dwight
Thursday February 14th, 2008 10:53:55 PM

Dwight listens only absentmindedly as other pay their various forms of respect for this dragon. Or is it perhaps fear? If so, it is likely warranted

At the moment Dwight is too distracted to manage a response to Jova.

Through the Air
Friday February 15th, 2008 11:14:05 PM

As the Knights climb onto Phaedrus' back and nestles in for a short ride, the dragon smiles. "That is good to hear, Protector. I am sure my Verash will not be adverse to your company. Of course, under the same terms to which we previously agreed, hmm?"

She tosses her head slightly at Monthor. "I see Fae Skiemir hasn't taught you manners, dwarf? We shall see about that, we shall."

Jova, meanwhile, finds the exchange quite hilarious, and breaks down in laughter again.

As Dwight introduces himself, she bows her head again. "And a pleasure to meet you, child. Seasons?" A long, low rumbling can be heard from deep within her chest, which after a moment, you realize must be laughing. "Why, child, I lost count of my seasons long ago. A hundred . . . a hundred times a hundred times again, and them some, perhaps.

"Why, I was quite seasoned when I came here from Elenna. I hear it's New Elenna now, and many other regions as well? Humans . . . always changing a good thing." She snorts as she rises into the air, turning gracefully to the south and flapping her wings.

"I believe you right, elf," the dragon says to Arien. "Time to be off."

You soar into the air, and soon have a view of the entire eastern side of the city, though much is clouded in fog.

Draax sits quietly, pondering the situation.

Vedik sits much the same, enjoying the ride and trying to soak in every detail.

Phaedrus flies quickly, and the ride is over in a matter of minutes. CIrcling a few times, she puts down in the small clearing next to Verash's modest hut. As the Knights disembark, her body begins to shrink and change itself. After a few seconds, you once again behold the tall, lithe woman in her long silvery dress. Smiling, she nods her head toward the hut and walks on.

Halfway there, she pauses and points to a spot on the ground. "Weapons, if you please sirs. You are more than welcome to examine your various . . . acquisitions. But please keep such activities out here."

Without another word, she heads for the hut. "Verash? Verash, dear, most of our friends have returned."

Jova
Saturday February 16th, 2008 11:47:37 AM

Jova leaps down off the dragon. The air smelled better cleaner. He knew the drill, and placed his staff and dagger on the ground. As her looked towards the hut, he felt as though something was proving his mind. Something was trying to get into his thoughts. It was an odd sensation, but very familiar.

Z!! So the hawk had not left him after all. The birds swoops down and lands near Jova's feet. They exchange greetings in their tongue, and move off toward the house. Jova explains the trip to see Gargul, then the adventure into the city. Z for his part had returned to Verash's hut, and stayed in the vicinity. Z had felt peace, solace and safety with Verash and Phaedus. It was good to have his friend back Jova decided.

Vedik
Sunday February 17th, 2008 9:41:52 AM

Vedik relaxes for the first time since leaving the city. He releases the heal spell he has been holding, healing himself to full.

One landing, he thanks Phaedus with a nod, and turns to the group. "We should see Verash first, and then decide what is to be done with our fallen friends."

If the group decides to go see Verash, he begins removing his weapons and leaves them where they were left last time.

Monthor
Sunday February 17th, 2008 1:39:51 PM

Monthor lays his axe down.

"No offence ment Pheed. Me bows down only to me Ma and to Moradin himself. Since ye be neither... this be the best ye can expect."

Tratain
Sunday February 17th, 2008 8:51:50 PM

At Vedik's suggestion Tratain says "Aye, I think that would be best. Lets Bring in the Books he wanted, and I think all the other books that were not magical in nature. We can examine them all together and see what knowledge they contain. After that we can decide what to do with our fallen friends, I think it would be best, if Varesh allows us, to bury them in his graveyard here with the other Hero's that have fallen in the City."

Dwight
Sunday February 17th, 2008 9:41:21 PM

Dwight tries to do the math the dragon gives as her age, but quickly runs out of fingers. In the end he smiles. "Most impressive," is all he finally manages to say.

Dwight makes the most of flying on a dragon, riding near the head and feeling the breeze/wind blow into him. Dwight feels comfort in the air, and shall remember this flight in particular.

In the back of his mind he feels and odd feeling. Not his own, but not a common feeling either.....jealousy? He returns thoughts of love, affection and longevity, but also of warning to keep some distance for the time being.

As the party lands, and the dragon transforms, Dwight watches with obvious interest. As a pile of weapons is created, Dwight realizes he really isn't ready to part with his again so soon. He lays his as directed, but has an unsettled stomach over the decision.

Dwight then follows the others into the strange and powerful house.

Draax
Monday February 18th, 2008 5:24:21 AM

Once the group has landed, Draax begins removing his weapons. He takes the time to remove any lingering demon's blood from his weapons before putting them with the others.

Arien
Monday February 18th, 2008 9:45:00 AM

Arien sets down his few weapons as the others divulge themselves of theirs and as long as there seems to be some time before the group is ready to proceed, will attempt to clean some more of his blood off.

Questions Answered
Monday February 18th, 2008 2:48:56 PM

As he dismounts, Jova immediately feels a presence. Finally, he recognizes his bird, which swoops down to greet its master.

Vedik finally feels at peace, and lets go of the magic he had been saving.

Monthor does his best to explain himself to the dragon. She is quiet for a moment, thinking his words over. "I see," she finally says. "I guess you are right. Everyone has their own values and standards, and who is one to force their own on another? You are wiser than I first thought, child. But don't let that be a license for foulness, hmm?"

Tratain suggests burying the fallen heroes here in Verash's graveyard, then removes the special books to bring to the sage.

Dwight, meanwhile, is a bit apprehensive to leave his weapons alone. "Worry not, youngling," Phaedrus whispers as she watches him. "No harm will come to them while here, nor to you. That much, I can promise."

Draax and Arien follow suit, cleaning their gear thoroughly before leaving it in a pile on the grass.

Heading toward the hut, Verash spills out of the door before you even get close enough to try the handle. "Books? Who said something about books?

"Wait...I did. Yes, that's right. And our friends have returned? Hmm. I count 7. Where are the big folk? Went straight home? All the better, they couldn't fit into my house anyway. Why the long faces?"

Verash looks at Phaedrus for a moment, then his face fills with understanding. "Oh...My deepest apologies, friends. Sometimes I'm a bit, well, you know.

"Anyway, anyway! Let me see those books! Ahh, just beautiful, aren't they? Come in, come in, let us look at this prize!"

He ushers you into the house, to a large dining room with a long table, mostly covered with an assortment of books, tomes, scrolls, maps and charts. Brushing everything to the side, he makes a meager attempt at dusting off the table. "Sit, sit. This is a gift beyond all belief. I'm sure you have a million questions about the city, or anything else. Whatever I can tell you, I will. Ask, ask."

Dwight
Monday February 18th, 2008 10:01:32 PM

Dwight takes only a small amount of comfort as Phaedus reinterates the safety of his persona and weapons pile.

However, as he follows everyone in, he makes an effort to sit near Phaedus, and offers to pull the chair out and push her in if she doesn't object. He then seats himself, and scans around for the beginning of the meal.

With food on his mind, he manages to keep his mouth shut.

Draax
Monday February 18th, 2008 11:57:34 PM

Draax takes a sit inside and relaxes as much as he is able to relax. He sits quietly and listens to the conversation around him.

Jova
Tuesday February 19th, 2008 5:51:15 AM

Jova tells everyone he will cast some prestigation spells to clean every one up. After they leave the hut he will clean the weapons but for now, he cleans each member.

Z continues to ask questions, excited at the outcome of events. Jova laughs during mucvh of the retelling. It was odd this feeling ofg mirth at such a time. Jova convince the bird to be quiet for a bit, trying to think of questions he would like answered.

Tratain
Tuesday February 19th, 2008 6:30:00 AM

Tratain says "Yes, we've quite a few questions. I guess I will start it seems."

He continues "Being told about the City is one thing, actually going there and seeing it for ourselves.... I have never seen so much Malevolence all in one place before. Do you have any idea what happened to the City to make it such a place? Do you have any idea if there is a way to lift the curse that draws evil to it?"

After Listening to Verash's answer and any other questions the other Knights may pose, Tratain says "One more curious thing that we have found. In the Mariliths tower we came across this strange Orb, none of us have ever seen anything like it before. Phaedrus and Yourself are much more knowledgeable than we are, perhaps you can help us make sense of it?"

If Phaedrus and Verash agree to help us look at the Orb Tratain will go retrieve it from where it is stored and show it to them.

Vedik
Tuesday February 19th, 2008 7:32:51 AM

Vedik furrows his brow. "There was a dragon there, it was invisible, so I couldn't see it. Sounded big though. Someone else will have to give you a better description. Do you know anything about him?"

He starts to open his mouth to speak further, but then closes it, clearly deciding there would be a better time to ask.

Monthor
Tuesday February 19th, 2008 7:38:01 AM

".... how many likes does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop???? What? The Wold may never know? "

Dinner and Conversation
Tuesday February 19th, 2008 8:17:56 PM

As the Knights seat themselves, Verash grabs some bread and a few cheeses, along with some bottles of wine and ale, and sets them on the center. Dwight offers Phaedrus a chair, but she politely declines and takes up her familiar position in the corner, watching over the meal.

Jova helps clean his companions, making the meal much more enjoyable, and Draax settles in to get comfortable for the first time in a few days.

Vedik readies a question, then thinks better and waits for the others to speak.

"A dragon?" Phaedrus asks quietly. "That side of the city, it would have been Astoraxus. The bastard... Excuse me, where are my manners."

Composing herself, she says, "He is a waste of good, solid scales. A coward by most measures, if he can't get the jump on his meal he likely won't bother fighting. Worry not about him, he has neither the brains nor the wherewithal to ever escape that city."

Monthor chimes in with a question, to which Verash quickly answers, "Three! Why, any one who has ever spoken to an owl would know that! How many owls have you met, sir dwarf?"

Tratain takes over with some more serious questioning.

Verash listens to the protector, then says, "Unfortunately, son, I am but a historian and scientist. I have long studied the cursed city, but have no idea how to remove the taint, if at all.

"As to how it started, what I can tell you is that the elves who once lived here used their magic, the innate magic of the land, for everything. Travel, comfort, sustenance, anything you can imagine. Somehow, the magic became warped and twisted, and most of those elves either died or were driven out of the city. Some say it was due to the greed and malevolence of some of the ruling caste, though I know not for sure.

"Should you check back with me in a few months, I expect to have some of these books deciphered and hope to know far more than this."

Tratain listens, then asks one more question. At the mention of the orb, Phaedrus steps forward and interrupts, "Orb? Take me to it immediately. Not here! Outside."

Once (or if) someone shows her the orb outside, she studies it for a few moments in silence.

"It is as I feared," she says quietly. "This thing is quite dangerous. I'll not have it under my Verash's roof. I suggest you allow me to return it to the city. If not, it is your own lives you risk, and no business of mine. But you will keep it outside and away from Verash and his home.

"Ask me no more questions about it. Keep it away, or better yet give it up and be thankful you are done with it."

She stalks off, refusing to discuss it more. If anyone tries to bring the orb back into the house, she will bar their entry, though she welcomes anyone in without it.

Meanwhile, inside, Verash asks, "So then, friends. How long will you be staying, and what about these poor dead ones I've heard about?"

Dwight
Tuesday February 19th, 2008 9:45:02 PM

Having reach for the cheese and bread and stuff at least two pieces in his mouth, Dwight feels momentarily satisfied. He continues to listen and watches as Phraedus seems overly stressed about the orb.

He then addresses Varesh, "My name is Dwight Twiggebundler, and I really appreciate your hospitality. Pardon my directness, but I seem a bit at a loss here, to what end are you studying the city? Aside from the books you now have, I am not sure what was done in there will have any lasting effect on the cure for the city as a whole." His tone is inquisitive, and curious.

As he awaits and answer, he ponders why a dragon would be so 'afraid' of an orb. Yet, be willing to travel with it to remove it from the home.

Draax
Tuesday February 19th, 2008 11:33:23 PM

Draax helps himself to something to eat while he listens to the others. He wonders what the orb is and is surprised by the dragon's reaction. Draax does not like the warning that Phaedrus gave the group about the orb, but is equally bothered by the fact that she will not tell the group what it is. He thinks that Dwight makes a great point about the dragon and the orb. "If the orb is a dangerous as Phaedrus suggests, I would bet that it is what the black was after. I have no problem with leaving it behind, but it is up to you magically sensitive guys to make the decision."

Jova
Wednesday February 20th, 2008 5:16:18 AM

Jova listens intently to Verash and Tratain. When an opening occurs he puts in. "the fog, or mist seemed to be a living being. Maybe with the ability to think and communicate. I struck it several times with a dispel magic wand and it only recoiled. Odd."

Then he thinks about the dragon. "What do you know sir Verash of the dragons followers. As we were escaping many elves and dwarves it looked like were firing arrows at us. I find it hard to believe the dragon didnt have allies. The lich king definately seemed to be the more powerful. Am I also to believe the dragon was somewhat young in age?

"Now thinking about it, there was smoke eminating from the orb, maybe that was the origin of the fog or mist. Could it be the force that entraps the bad ones in the city? If so, we have have unleashed that evil out of the city, That would not be nice. But if the orb is so evil it should be buried somewhere, cast to another plane, or destroyed."

Arien
Wednesday February 20th, 2008 10:03:31 AM

"While not too attached to this orb my first instinct is to investigate what exactly it is and what it does. It may be something terrible and evil that was contained in the city until now. If so I'd be more at ease if we knew its details, such as how to destroy it." Arien finishes eating and, brushing his hands together to rid them of any lingering crumbs, offers any assistance he might to their host with his texts.

Vedik
Wednesday February 20th, 2008 2:54:32 PM

"It was unable to be identified with Arien's powerful divinations, yet it is clearly magical. To me this says it's power is considerable." He regards Phaedrus thoughtfully. "We are to become members of the Consortium, it does not become us to shrink from something dangerous, especially if it should be destroyed."

Tratain
Wednesday February 20th, 2008 6:41:45 PM

Regarding the Orb Tratain says "i'm not willing to leave it or toss it back into the City without more than an "Its Dangerous because I say so. If Phaedrus won't tell us what it does we will have to discover it for ourselves. If
it is so Powerfull the last place I want to put it is back into a city full of evil creatures."

On the Topic of the groups fallen comrades he says "With your permission Verash, if my friends agree I would like to bury them here in your graveyard for fallen Heroes. We really have no better place until our castle is built and we don't know how long that will take."

Dinner & Conversation Continued
Wednesday February 20th, 2008 8:03:49 PM

Responding to Dwight, Verash says, "As I said, I am a historian, and a scientist. I have been called a sage, though I don't quite know what that means. No, I am simple here to learn. The history behind the city, the reason for the evil that infests it, anything I can learn, I will."

Draax listens, then opines on what the black dragon wanted back in the city. He doesn't seem to care either way about the orb's fate.

Jova asks about the fog, and Verash smiles, apparently warming to his position as educator. "The fog, now there's an interesting bit. As far as I've been able to figure, it is some sort of by product of the evil that twisted the city's magic in the first place. It feeds on pain, greed, and death. I'm not sure if 'living' is the right term for it, but at the very least, it certainly seems at least partially sentient, perhaps 'instinctual' is a better descriptor?

"If it can think, or communicate, I haven't heard that yet, though I wonder . . . resisted dispelling, you say? Now that is certainly interesting." He grabs a notebook and scribbles furiously for a few moments, and Phaedrus takes the opportunity to jump in.

"I'm not sure just how old Astoraxus is, but I wouldn't call him young, exactly. Certainly a few hundred years old, though not so mature and experienced as his age would otherwise dictate. Followers? I doubt it. He has always been a loner, and his tiny realm in the city shows it: he can't increase his holdings because he is weaker than some of the other powers, as you correctly surmise. As for the humanoids . . . I assume that is just a coincidence that you saw them at the same time."

Phaedrus sighs as Arien and Vedik speak. "Fine then. The orb is a sort of gate, or portal. It helps open a semi-permanent portal to another plane, though to which I cannot say. My guess is Xanaphelas was trying to bring an army of her demon followers to this plane. I'll not have it in this house and risk harm to Verash. If you don't want to send it back to the city, take it away with you. And quickly. I know not how to safely destroy it."

Turning to Tratain, she says, "That is exactly where it should be: a city full of evil creatures that cannot escape. The choice is yours, I'll not force you to follow good advice. But bear in mind what it means to be members of the Consortium when making your decision."

"That's enough, now, Phaedrus," Verash chimes in. "My boy, I'm sure those buried out back would be honored to rest next to your comrades. Be my guest if you like. You'll find some shovels and other gardening tools along the side of the house."

He starts cleaning up empty plates and bottles from the table. "I'd say we all could use some rest, and you'll want to be off early tomorrow." Leaning over to speak more quietly, "You don't want to upset her any more, trust me."

"I heard that, dear," Phaedrus says coldly.

Dwight
Wednesday February 20th, 2008 10:13:06 PM

Having heard the primary use of the orb, Dwight adds he is opposed to leaving it here, or returning it to the city. "It must be safe in its current condition, else its emersion in our bag would have been disasterous."

"If it is evil, it is likely our duty to see that it is destroyed while causing the least amount of harm to anyone."

"Besides, if it only helps open a gate, then its somewhat useless now as we are not likely going to use the arcane spell to activate it."

As the table is cleared away, Dwight looks to the others to see if the fallen are buried tonight. If so, he joins and offers his silent mourning, but does not help as it does not seem to be his place.

Draax
Thursday February 21st, 2008 12:01:49 AM

Draax gets ready to rest up for the night. "If we are going to take it with us, lets make sure nothing tries to follow us back."

Jova
Thursday February 21st, 2008 2:36:02 AM

Looking over to Phadeus Jova asks a question. "With all due respect, could you grant me one question? The orb connects to another plane as I understand it. Could good and lawful creatures be called from it? Or is it evilly aligned? Ooops thats 2 questions."

"Tratain, I want to preserve our friends. We need to know from Gargul what their fates are to be. I know we shouldnt go before him now, but in the future,,,, Anyway, I would like to lay them out, turn them to stone, then shrink their bodies. That way they would be asier to carry, and not decay. Then if they have trully passed on, and Gargul will not help us, we can un shrink them, and bury them at the foot of our castle.

"A tribute to the 2 heroes who gave their lives to become Dragons, well, seems more fitting than a unmarked grave near a city of great evil."

"Sir Verash. We came into the vallet through a portal at that end of the valley. We met others who seemed to arrive here from another way. Do you know of any other ways out of the valley? I don't pretend to understand the geography of the Wold, but where are we, in reference to a larger city, one we might recognize?"

Vedik  d20+24=32 d20+24=38 d20+24=42 d20+24=34
Thursday February 21st, 2008 7:39:22 AM

Vedik strokes his beard thoughtfully. "Planar gates are not something to be dealt with lightly. The course of action you propose is direct, and immediately solves the issue, but what of the future? Xanaphelas is gone, but there are other beings of its ilk there. Do we not risk another attempting to use the Orb as the demon intended? Our purpose in destroying Xanaphelas was to preserve the balance, because we feared one evil growing beyond the bonds of the city. Would we not risk that again by returning the orb?"

Vedik frowns before continuing. "And portals go both ways. Could it not also be used as a way to escape the city? I do not relish the notion of the Lich escaping the city by way of the demon realm."

When the conversation pauses for the night, he asks Tratain for his healing wand. He then concentrates for a moment, and begins drawing Woldsblood.

"Yeah well... where's the food? "

" why not just drop the glob down some volcano or something??? "

Tratain
Thursday February 21st, 2008 1:16:57 PM

Tratain says "I agree with Vedik on the Orb. Just because none of the Evil Creatures have gotten out yet that anyone knows about doesn't mean they can't in the future. Also if the Orb is that Powerful, it will give a huge advantage to any of the Major Leaders in the city if they can figure o t how to use it. We managed to get it away from that Marilith in time it seems, but who know what the others could do with it. If we can't figure out how to retune the orb to somewhere harmless or how to destroy it we will just have to try and hold onto it."

On Jova's suggestion he says "I'm not sure I like the idea of carrying them around for that long, Removing their bodies from the City is one thing, but carrying them around with us for Weeks or Months while we try and find a place for our castle and have it built? I doesn't sit well with me but its not a decision I can make for us, we'll go with the Majority Opinion of what everyone thinks."

End of the night?
Thursday February 21st, 2008 5:06:47 PM

[have to post a bit early, local game tonight]

Dwight feels that the group should take the orb with them and find a way to destroy it. Draax agrees, but warns against any enemies trying to get it back.

Jova begs another question of Phaedrus. She replies, "The orb can allow entry to any creatures, good or evil. It is tied to a specific plane, chosen by the orb's creator. Given the circumstances under which you found it, you can guess what creatures are likely to come through."

Jova also questions Verash on geography. "Well," hums Verash, "we aren't quite anywhere near anything you'd know. There are a number of portals scattered around these woods that grant entry to this land from various points in the Wold. But other than those portals, there isn't much connecting this land and that. Not another plane, mind you, but separated long ago by those ancient elves.

"Now if it's returning that concerns you, the portals are fairly easy to navigate going back the other way. I'm sure Phaedrus would get you to the proper portal quickly."

Vedik ponders the orb, and posits some wise thoughts on its use. Phaedrus sighs, "You are right, dwarf, and wise beyond your years. Even at my age, my judgment can still be clouded by emotion." She pauses with a quick look at Verash. "You are likely best taking the orb and dealing with it. But I still demand that it be kept away from the house for the time being."

Monthor is served his plate of food, and eats hungrily. As to his question, Phaedrus responds, "There are many who could withstand such challenge to retrieve it. I'm not sure a volcano could stop me from getting the orb if I truly wanted it, and there are those far more powerful than myself about."

Tratain agrees with Vedik's suggestions as well.

On the topic of what to do with the fallen, Jova and Tratain seem to disagree, but the question is left for majority vote.

When the evening comes, Phaedrus walks toward the door. "I feel I can trust you enough here alone. I will take some time to myself outdoors. If and when you are ready to depart, now or in the morning, let me know and I will bring you to your portal."

Dwight
Thursday February 21st, 2008 10:07:02 PM

Dwight watches from the window as Phaedrus gets some fresh air. He doesn't want to intrude on her alone time, but really wants to watch her transform again.

Afterwards he takes to his bed and falls fast asleep. His dreams are restless, being in a unfamiliar bed among unfamiliar 'friends' in an unfamiliar land. He awakes in the morning, and quietly moves outside to take in the crisp morning air and nibble on the extra piece of cheese he took from the table the night before.

Jova
Friday February 22nd, 2008 12:43:03 PM

Jova spends the time making small talk with Verash as he starts examining the books. Z is by his side most of the time, getting his neck scratched. As the sun sets Jova exits the house and spends some time under the stars, enjoying the relkative peace.

Tratain
Friday February 22nd, 2008 4:38:31 PM

Before the group rests for the night Tratain says to Phaedrus and Verash "The two of you are Probably more Traveled and much more knowledgeable than we are so I have one more question if I May. Part of our Deal with Gargul to return our friend was for us to construct a temple in his Name in a place where he is not known. Do either of you have any idea's where such a place may be? I thought all people knew of him, but perhaps somewhere quite far away there are people to whom he remains unknown. I was wondering if you had any idea's on that."

In the Morning Tratain goes outside, upon seeing Dwight he says "We will be returning to our home soon, you are more than welcome to join us if you wish. Or if we could escort you anywhere you wish to go. You have earned our respect for battling the Marilith with us, and it would be our honor if you wished to travel on with us. I can not promise it will be easy or safe though, we are being tested for our worthiness to join the Dragon Conortium, we have lost two comrades to these trials already. I think I can speak for all of us when I ask you to stay and Travel with us."

Draax
Friday February 22nd, 2008 6:35:15 PM

Draax responds to the question about the bodies.

"Not knowing the wishes of out dead teammates makes it hard to give an opinion on what to do with their bodies. If we knew their history, I would say return their bodies to their tribes, but we did not know them well enough to locate their families.

If the bodies can be preserved and shrunk, I have no problem with storing them at our place until we find get our castle. We could even bury them at the base of our tree and then moves the bodies to the final resting place at the castle when it is ready."

Monthor
Saturday February 23rd, 2008 10:20:20 AM

The dwarf eats, drinks, laughs and somehow feels more "experienced" then he did before. He'll follow Tratain's lead as to what to do next. Monthor knows that it's irrelevant where his friends' bodies are layd to rest. It's the adventurers' souls that matter and those are now at rest until the great gods call on them again.

Arien
Saturday February 23rd, 2008 1:00:43 PM

"Perhaps a compromise then, we can carry them to the other side of the portal and back to the nearest town. There we can bury them and should we ever gain the chance to track down members of their family we can let them know where they lie. That way we don't have to worry about their state for the next several months, nor do we leave them where it is almost impossible to retrieve their remains."

Vedik
Saturday February 23rd, 2008 1:13:20 PM

Vedik ponders the fate of the remains of the fallen friends, and the experience of the last few days. The nature of life and death is a subject that weighs heavily on the old dwarf of late, but he keeps his council to himself, and prepares to set out in the morning.

Tratain (2nd)
Sunday February 24th, 2008 10:15:30 AM

Tratain listens to his friends in the Morning and says "I guess we're taking Lumi and Horvis's Bodies with us. Jova I'll Help prepare them so you can turn them to stone and shrink them."

Once all the Proper spells are cast for Identifying the items and Lumi and Horvis's bodies are cared for Tratain will let Phaedrus know that the group is ready to leave. Once the group passes through the portal Tratain will cast Windwalk to speed the groups journey home to Plataue City.

Dwight
Sunday February 24th, 2008 9:54:16 PM

Listening to Tratain, Dwight looks in his direction and thinks for a moment. "Well, given what I've seen in just the past hours, it seems you cause is just and it would an hour of mine to contribute as much as I may."

The End of Evil
Monday February 25th, 2008 2:13:18 PM

Dwight sleeps restlessly, dreaming of his friends in the Crescent Valley. In the morning, he takes a stroll through the grass to lighten his spirits.

Jova and Verash talk long into the evening, trading stories, discussing the merits of particular historical interpretations, and after a few glasses of brandy, singing a few songs together. Once darkness comes, Jova retires to the field to collect himself before going to sleep.

Tratain asks the hosts about Gargul's charge. Verash shakes his head and returns to his discussion with Jova. "Not for me to meddle in the affairs of the gods. No, sir," he says.

Phaedrus sighs. "He's always been a bit superstitious. Though he has a point. It is for every man or woman to decide for themselves what path has been set for them.

"That being said, maybe I can give you my own interpretation. Gargul mentioned people who do not 'know him,' yes? You are quite right, one would be hard pressed to find a land where Gargul's name was not known.

"But you knew my name before coming to this land, did you not? Would you then say that you 'knew' me, Phaedrus, as you now do?

"My point is, maybe you are ascribing the wrong meaning to the words. . . .

"Then again, child, the gods are an odd bunch. Gargul could just as easily have meant for you to find a land where no one ever dies. They might not know his name either. It certainly gives one something to ponder.

"In the end, I think you'll have to decide for yourself what he meant, act on it, and accept the consequences." She pauses for a moment, then nods to herself, as if satisfied by her own answer, then goes to sit beside Verash.

Draax seconds the idea of temporarily shrinking the bodies of the fallen Knights, possibly keeping them in Plateau City until a castle can be built.

Monthor eats his fill, and Draax's fill as well, and drinks enough for the entire team. His mind is filled with existential ideas on the afterlife provided for his fallen comrades, though he keeps the thoughts to himself.

Arien proposes a compromise on the bodies, hoping to appease both factions on the issue.

Vedik, like Monthor, quietly considers the issue, but keeps his opinions to himself until the group departs.

Tratain makes the decision to follow Jova's request for now.

Dwight decides to become a permanent Grey Knight upon Tratain's invitation, and the group departs.

Phaedrus takes you on a now-familiar and far less exciting aerial trip, floating over the treetops of the forest for a few miles.

She sets down in a small clearing. The area is familiar, with its large stone portal in the center, and a few cryohydra bodies lying in the grass. Though you were just here a few days ago, it feels like ages since you came to this land.

Setting you down, Phaedrus plods over to the portal and does her best to crouch low. Her tail aimlessly flits back and forth, knocking a sapling out of the ground.

She places one clawed hand on the top of the stone portal and closes her eyes. Mumbling a few unintelligible words, she bangs her paw on the stone once, then steps back.

After a moment, the portal darkens, then explodes in a flash of bright light. The light subsides, and after a few moments, your eyes can see again. Phaedrus has already lifted herself into the sky.

"Farewell, children," she calls. "Give my regards to that pompous gold, Arrak, when you see him!" Laughing, she speeds off, back toward Verash's home.

The gate stands before you, shimmering brightly.

One by one, you step into the light and through the stone portal, and . . .

Dwight
Monday February 25th, 2008 9:20:38 PM

Trusting the dragon, and ready to be away from this area and in more familiar dwellings, Dwight steps through.

As he exits the other side he takes a deep breathe of the 'city' air, but then coughs as with the breathe came a small bug that now twitters in the back of his throat.

"Ah, the city life" he finally manages to cough out.

Draax
Monday February 25th, 2008 11:18:27 PM

When They walks through the portal, Draax immediately looks for Troughton to see if the man actually waited for them. He wonders just how much of the story is safe to tell the man.
