Irblis' words also imply that killing the downed Cyclopes would reveal more treasure, but Gaffer isn't inclined to point that out for the moment.

"So when we saw the wolf die, that creature that appeared was chasing their treasure threads... We should get out of here sharpish then?"

Nira looks at the gemstones that Hmerrin is collecting. "If creatures are so set on chasing treasure here then perhaps we can even use gems like that as a distraction. Get creatures to chase those instead of chasing us?"

She checks to see if the gems continue to have a gold thread above them once they've been collected by Hmerrin.

He's fully trusted, but the feeling is probably mutual and Irblis scampers over one of the makeshift roadblocks and disappears from view.
Hmerrin accepts that the treasure is there for the taking and starts taking. Specifically culling through the large pile and grabbing gemstones.
In the first few minutes he figures out there is a good amount of objects buried in the coins, a Cloak, Trident, Bracers and likely more. He has found a Pink and Green stone, several rubies the size of a gamblers die, and a sapphire and white gold ring.
Nira adds the thought that is the occupants of Fae Skiemir are so obsessed with treasure, might it be a means of distraction as well.

The scale in Dankos hand gives a faint pulse and grows warm, puling towards the a partially collapsed building at the back of the square

Nira looks upwards, specifically to see if there are any of those golden trails above the party. If there are, then stealth may not be an option.

She's not sure how she feels about walking into the partially collapsed building. It just feels like being outside has advantages in this place. Still, if that's where the crystal is then that's where they have to go.

Hmerrin shovels quickly and scores a good bit by dodging coins.
Cloak of Resistance +5; Bracers of Armor +5; Ring of Protection +3; Pink and Green Ion Stone +2 Cha; Trident of Fish Command; Gold and Emerald necklace worth 10k
Nira has only noticed a gold bead appear upon the death of a creature and her magically enhanced senses does not see any such beads about any of The Tide.
Gaffer contemplates debris removal, and could probably get some, but he notes, many of the blocks and stones are several thousand of pounds in weight and it could cause further collapse. The druid then notes something rather extraordinary. Fine debris and cracks in the stone are disappearing! The building is repairing itself! Very slowly, but it is.

The Tide head into the building and the dragon scale leads deep into the collapse. The party winds along, squeezed, and forced into a single file. Climbing over debris, sliding on your bellies, the threat of cave-in is very real. For nearly an hour, you manuever along, the occasional groan of timber and stone beneath your feet, or above you head giving an adrenaline rushed pause. The scale eventually leads to a hole in the floor where a massive beam from above smashed through. The hole extends well beyond anyone's sight. Cool air can be felt stirring below and the sound of water, possibly a river can be heard below.

A big hole in the ground. This feels awfully similar to how the party first found Vyrmix, and it gives Nira an uncomfortable thought. "You know, we're taking his word that we're looking for a crystal. For all we know this scale is directing us to his brother and we're expected to help him break out of this place"

She casts a Dancing Lights spell and sends it down the hole as far as she can (up to 280ft).

Hmerrin's good mood about the treasure haul fades rapidly during the long slow drag through the debris punctuated by occasional moments of terror as the building shifts above him.

He regards the big hole.

The fighter pulls out the Carpet of Flying, hoping it works in this place.

He glances over at Nira's comment and chuckles.
"We can try going back without it and see if he'll take a carrot instead."

Gaffer isn't so bothered by the debris, he shapeshifts himself into a small air elemental to get through the smaller spaces and as they reach the hole, he peers inside and if he'll fit as something larger.

"I can give someone a couple hours of Air Walk if you're not clean on the carpet."

Ramirez looks into the hole in the floor. Hmm I wonder if we could summon an elemental and have it scout for us. Not sure if that kind of magic will work here though.

The deep hole gives Nira pause, could the dragon Vyrnix's crystal actually be a dragon to rescue from this city? The bloodwitch casts Dancing Lights and send it 280' down and only more darkness can be seen below.

As Gaffer and Ramirez contemplate summoning an Air elemental to scout, Danko speaks of pickles and steps off the ledge. Activating his wondrous Boots of Levitation, he starts floating towards Nira's Dancing Lights below...

At about 3' per second those topside have a bit to decide how they want to descend before Danko gets to the Dancing Lights at 280'

Once all aboard who's coming aboard, the fighter manuevers the carpet so as to get ahead of...er, below Danko and company. He'll keep himself about 10' lower than everyone else.

Nira takes one last look around to see if they're being followed, and then heads after Ram using her overland flight. She keeps the dancing lights at a distance to help lead the way.

As they descend she also keeps an eye on the walls. She heard running water, and that could mean a waterfall or something coming in from the sides and she'd prefer not to get wet.

Those in Levitation mode are considerably slower at 20' round than any of the other means. Hmerrin and Ramirez lead the way and the bard has a Dancing Lights spell about them to make it easy enough to see. Next is Gaffer, who nearly fills the entire hole as a Huge air elemental. Behind him are the levitation duo of Danko and Des and bringing up the rear, is Nira.

The sides of the hole for the first 100' are sublevels of the building above and eventually give way to what looks like an ancient tunnel system beneath the city. The scale continues to indicate a descent and so the party keeps going.

At 500' the first signs of water appear. A few natural rivelets running down the side of one of the now rock walls. Gaffer notes the telltale markers of what would be a massive burrowing creature having created this section of the shaft. Possibly the Linhorn seen earlier or some other as of yet unseen creature in the deep below the city.

At 800' the Shaft opens as you move through the ceiling of a natural cave that spreads out all around you and here is where the sound of the water that reached your ears above exits. The Dancing Lights are able to move and illuminate the ground below you, another 200' still, but in doing so, you see a fierce white water of a river flowing through this cavern and disappearing into a far wall.

You land 5 minutes after you started in a very large cavern. The river rushes along at your backs and the scale has increased in warmth substantially and is actually emitting a soft blue-white glow as it is swept before you. The Crystal must be quite close and away from the river.

Nira moves towards the middle of the pack and tries to keep her dancing lights in the direction opposite to Ram's, so as to give the party light on all sides. She's glad the scale is directing them away from the river.

Ramirez sends his lights to the right and Nira does likewise to the left where they both quickly are able to define the width of the cave, varying around 150'. Stalactites and stalagmites hang high above and litter the ground and numerous large natural stone columns have formed. The right side of the cave has a large 10' high shelf running down it and to the left is a 20' high shelf. A deep groove, or gouge tears from left to right between the shelves creating a 10' deep natural trench.

Keeping the lights close enough to the walls to illuminate them in dim light, the pair push the magic lanterns further in...

At the very edge of Nira's light and her ability to see well in low light conditions, movement. A large black mass of...something is coming out of the deep dark of the cave and towards the party. It takes Nira's brain a moment or two to decipher what it is seeing. The huge thing is a horrid mass of barbed tentacles, glaring eyes, and gnashing teeth, twisting upon itself and reshaping into new forms.

A chaos beast of unheard of and unprecedented size.

Only PC's with Low light vision can see it with Perception Checks DC 20

Des draws his great axe and stands his ground waiting for the monster.
Gaffer identifies the horror coming at the party and asks about the scale. The scale is increasing in warmth aand brighteness as the creature closes.
Ramirez casts Haste affecting everyone and then begins an inspiring tune.
Nira casts Reverse gravity and the beast floats upward and hangs oddly spinning mid air.
Danko casts Wall of Force, but nothing happens. Whatever forcing were affecting spells above, are in play down here as well and the spell is wasted

Des wonders, and given the reaction of the dragon scale he's right, if the Beast ate the crystal.
Ramirez asks about opening up with arrows to take it down while its floating about.
Gaffer acknowledges his readiness to engage. Gaffer casts Sunburst at the beast. The cavern glows temporarily and then the magic seems to flow into and be absorbed by the creature. Certainly not the expected affect.
Nira lets everyone know the Beast will be right where it is for just under 2 minutes
Danko too, is done with chaos magic and sprouts great leather wings from his back to do things the old fashioin way.

A golden bead does indeed appear above the Beast and glide off into the dark, but being a glowing golden bead, it is not hard to keep track of and seems to come to a rest about 350' away. The scale indicates the remains of the creature, leaving no question as to the location of the crystal.

Gaffer takes off and soon disappears from sight. He soars past the golden bead and deeper and deeper into the cave. As he passes, he can easily confirm a substantial pile of treasure where the bead hovers, almost seeming to call out to him. His vision only extends 60' in the black and the golden bead quickly recedes behind him. The cavern at this point, nearly 1,200 feet from the party has narrowed to 90' across as it tapers.

Back at the dead beast, Somewhere in the 1000's of ponds of amorphous flesh like mass, lies the crystal.

Knowing the upcoming confrontation with the Maharaja and if any of it is to be believed, it's goin to be amongst the most dangerous and powerful opponent the Tide has ever faced, Hmerrin suggests the treasure should be grabbed to better prepare for it. The group moves quickly. Nira strays back a bit to keep an eye on her friends. Was the greed of the the trap within Fae Skiemir the actual guiding principle here, or it it simply as stated by the young warrior? If she is honest with herself, she is unsure. Her senses and experience of expectation tell her there is no outer influences going on
Ramirez casts prestidigitation and the spell is as easy as always and there is no hints at the chaos surges that have plagued many other spells cast in and below the city.

Feeling secure, the party gets cleaned up quickly.

Nira's arcane sight flutters as she wills it active, but once that passes, she is able to discern the magic auras quite well.

Treasure is gathered and as the last bit of the treasure is accounted for, the golden bead vanishes.
Through various items and abilities The Tide ascend from the undercity cavern. Reaching the top, the group notes all of the Cyclops still lying where they fell, but all 3 are now dead. Three golden beads float over the substantial treasure pile.
It is easily apparent that a deep bladed cut at the neck of two of the monsters was the cause of death.

More treasure is better than less right? Hmerrin moves in wondering why someone would kill the cyclops, but not take the treasure. Danko agrees and is with him quickly
Nira points out what the Erkling pointed out. This is the city of greed, of Fae Skiemir and it ensnares and traps those of greedy intent and heart. The bloodwitch is concerned.
Des backs her up, there are plenty of other times ahead for treasure.

Hmerrin sees nor hears nothing of ambush or a trap. He also notes that he was sure there was more gold coin here. His quick ply through the substantial amount of silver coins reveals an onyx and iron brooch, and 4, no 5 goblets of silver with inlaid pearl. A glint in the darkened partially collapsed building catches his eye. Is that a blade of some kind partially buried? Didn't Ramirez mention some powerful blade. I mean it looks like it's just inside there....

Danko finds a beautiful ruby pendant and another of the goblets, making a set of 6. Odd number, one would expect a setting of 8. Perhaps deeper in the pile of silver, no wait....not all the coins are silver....Why that one looks more like a polished dragon scale, are there more?......

No bad guys in sight, the group exists the town square and begins working their way back. Mostly under the direction of Nira through here keen memory, as the scale that lead you here is not leading you back and the path taken was hardly a straight line.

Back down the streets and dashing down side alleyways The Tide moves purposefully and alertly. Combat in a square ahead freezes the group. The ring of steel on steel plainly heard followed quickly by a great darkening cloud in the sky and monstrous thunderbolt from the heavens. In giant comes a cry Highlight to display spoiler: {Retreat! Fall Back!} followed by a deep laugh, then in giant Highlight to display spoiler: {"You can try fools!} and another great bolt from the heavens lances down. You can tell the fight is moving off and a few more moments the sound of battle is mostly lost in the general din of the city.

Moving quickly the party continues up the street to the intersection. 3 cloud giants lay dead in a blackened area that still smells of ozone. Turning right the party continues away. Another 20 minutes of cat and mouse through the streets and the party finds themselves crossing another square.

Nira spots them as well. "Yep, horned devils alright" she relays silently over the telepathic link "and I'm not sure we could take on six of them. Even if we did, the combat would likely attract something worse this way"

Several in the group spot and subsequently identify the flying creatures as Horned devils.
Hmerrin pulls his bow as the others discuss alternative courses of action.

The flight of 6 reappear above the rooftops and as Hmerrin sends an arrow skyward, 6 fiery red beads descend.

One simply vanishes as soon as it starts, another strikes Danko, but does not explode. The remain 4 detonate about the party.

The devils are 120' away at a height of 100' and have slowed to a hover.

Fire rains down and the call goes out to get to cover and several of the The Tide do so.
Hmerrin fires a full volley skyward, but none of his shots strike home.
Ramirez casts Haste affecting everyone and moves to the side of the street entering a building through a busted window.
Nira is with Ramirez and enters the building as well.
Des remains with Hmerrin.
Gaffer, being too large to get into any building, moves to the side of the street and casts Control Winds The spell flickers into existence and then immediately dissipates.
Danko remains where he is as well, muttering nonsensically to himself or some unseen being.

Ramirez and Nira find themselves in what looks to be a small shop of some kind, 25' long and 15' deep. The interior walls are painted in a mural of rolling hills and trees under blue skies and small clouds. So real you almost feel as if you could step into it, but definitely a painting. 2 sets of small rounds tables with a pair of chairs are scattered where Ramirez came in and a small counter is at the back wall with an interior beechwood door.

For a brief moment, a blast of wind strikes the cadre of devils pushing them skyward. The 6 quickly recover however and send another volley of fiery beads. Using the near center of the boulevard, the 20' radius of the Fireball spells engulf everyone who did not get into a building.

Nira gets out the healing staff and gives Dez a not so gentle prod with it.

She's still not entirely sure about trying to Plane Shift out of here, so offers some alternatives to get them to the border. "Well, if my spells work I could cast an Etherealness spell. We all become ethereal and head straight to the exit - right through buildings and walls if we have to. Or a Wind Walk spell and we could travel at up to 60mph" she gives a couple of suggestions, but then wonders if she's complicating things "Do teleport spells work? Could we just teleport to where we came in?"

Right now she's happy to go with the majority though on how to get out of this situation.

Hmerrin Dez and Danko dash for the cover of the building amidst the blasts of the fireball onslaught and leap inside. Des did not go down so Hmerrin can simply run and hold onto his bow
Gaffer shifts and get inside as well.
Once everyone is inside, Ramirez casts Mass Cure Moderate Wounds and the spell floods the heroes with some needed healing. Party heal 30
Nira produces her Staff of Healing and is successful at healing Des. Des heals 150
The conversation quickly runs the gambit of how to get out of the current situation.

Thinking about options, he thinks Wind Walk (if it will work) is probably the least risky possibility. "I'm a little worried about what trying to teleport to the exit might do. The Erlking said that's our only way out, which makes me wonder if it's warded somehow."

"If it comes to a fight, I can lend you all some of Domi's power for a bit."

In the meantime, he tries to stay in cover and observe the Devils on the side nearest him.

Nira isn't quite sure what's got into Danko. She suspects it's either that bead that hit him earlier did something, or going for that extra treasure did curse him in some way. Her constantly active arcane sight will let her know if he's gained any additional auras, so she quickly looks him over.

She still has the Heal staff in hand so gives him a poke with it.

Des votes for Wind Walk as the discussions continue on getting out or fighting.
Danko, suddenly goes for Hmerrin and the fighter finds the elusive rogue quite hard to simply get a hold of.
Nira has better luck and the Staff of Healing cures Danko of his Confusion.

The Devils close outside on the main road to stand in the middle of the road 20' from the party and all 6 hurls beads of fire into the building.

Everything explodes inside the building and Gaffer feels his world go black for a moment before the wave of healing pulls him back to consciousness, barely, reaching for somebodies hand as Danko instructs.

If the Wind Walk succeeds, Gaffer immediately flies at full speed away from the devils.

If both Plane Shift and Wind Walk fail, he shifts his form into that of a crumblind earth elemental and dives into the earth until a next fireball would not reach him.

Des provides a healing burst to the group, or rather he attempts to do so, but nothing happens when he calls upon the normally reliable ability.
Ramirez steps forward and tries to cast a spell, but the smoke causes him to choke and he loses it.
Danko attempts to Plane Shift.....nothing happens.
Hmerrin grabs Danko and Ramirez's hand and hopes....
Nira casts Windwalk and the group becomes translucent cloud like creatures
Gaffer immediately flies as best as he can away from the burning building and the devils

Windwalk was successful and DM imagines the PC's want to do something immediately so here is your chance

Gaffer propels himself forward without hesitation, trying to escape the next round of explosions that are sure to come, not taking the time to become familiar with the sudden transformation, he instead crashes across the street, next to the very devils he was trying to escape.

Gaffer's vaporous form doesn't prevent the expletive telepathic shout that echoes to the minds of the others.

Danko and Des exit the burning building and turn hard right, making for the end of the street and gaining altitude to go over the buildings
Gaffer is less fortunate and does not make the turn, coming to a stop just past the 6 devils.
Ramirez grabs Gaffer and starts to pull him along, getting another 20' down the road.
Nira flies out and stops in between the devils and Gaffer and Ramirez
Hmerrin, also makes the turn and catches up with Danko and Des at the end of the street

The 6 devils turn as the group speeds out and all smile at what appears to be three victims. They move in, leaping into the air. 4 attack Nira and the other two go after Ramirez. Laughing and taunting the fleeing the group. "Have you ever smelled such treasures brothers!."
They lash out with their spiked chains....

Desdichado feels very awkward in his flight. He considers turning around, but it relieved to see that it looks like the others are helping Gaffer. His flying is barely under control and he has a real fear that if he makes any movements or jerks he'll go considerably off track. He hopes they can make it back to their entryway soon without any more struggle. As soon as they are on the ground, he can help Gaffer with more healing.

Nira and Ramirez are able to fight off the stunning affect and with Gaffer fly off, putting a considerable distance between themselves and the devils.
Hmerrin and the others pause just long enough for the last three to catch up. While waiting, they see 6 large black serpentine creatures with the heads of crows 'appear' in the street 100' further back from the devils . Each sends a massive blue-white bolt of lightning into the cadre of devils.

The party is nearly 300' from the combat below on the street behind them standing upon the rooftop of the building row at the end of the street. The city spreads out in all directions with varying tall spires, massive rising structures and sculptures in the distance that reach hundreds of feet into the sky, even to the clouds themselves. Dust and smoke rises in dozens of locations including, of course, not too far behind you. A maze work of streets and alleys twist through towards the great wall that encircles Fae Skiemir.

Nira catches up to those waiting ahead. "We've still got things flying in every direction. I'm not sure we have a lot of time to rest up" she advises over the telepathic link.

If the others are dropping their mist shapes, she will as well.

Nira tries to gauge how far they are from the point that they entered the mythal. She assumes that's the direction they've been flying and the landmarks here feel pretty distinct.

Gaffer catches up to the others and his shoulders loose their tension as Ramirez sends healing through. "Thanks, I needed that, and thanks for the back up down on the street."

DM: point of order. You cannot cast spell in WindWalk and once you leave the Windwalk form, the spell effect is ended for you and you cannot return to WindWalk form. So if Ramirez wants to try and cast CCW he will no longer be able to Windwalk.

Dropping o out of cloud form, Ramirez successfully casts Cure Critical Wounds on Gaffer
Following Hmerrins advice and Gaffers ‘I know where we are going’ skills of direction, the group quickly makes for the edge of the city where they entered.

Far across the city, one of the great spires moves! What appeared to be a tower shimmers and begins to stride across the buildings, a titan! Fortunately for The Tide, the titan is heading generally away from you. All in the party can also sense, even from here, the pull of gold in the direction the titan moves

The flight plan works well and 20 minutes later the party lands where Gaffer knows the Erkling should be waiting and sure enough a hand waves from just inside the gray-white field about the city

The group wastes no time upon arrival and Hmerrin leads the party into the opaque barrier. You do indeed need to join hands and what you find as you pass through is a living chain of various medium sized fae. The Erkling is the nearest in the chain and offers a simple enough instruction. "Don't let go as you move along or you will be lost." Voices can be heard, distant murmurs, quiet whispers on the wind, but this time there is nothing distinct.

Moments later, you are standing at the edge of the woods once again and the fae that guided you through are gathering about. The Erkling shoos them away and gives you an appraising look. "It would seem that all of you are here and no more the worse for the experience. You do the noble races proud. Good luck."

With that he simply fades as a breeze picks up, blowing him to unseen vapor with a final 'wink'. You stand alone at the edge of the plains to Fae Skiemir and a great wood, somewhere in the Lands of Rest and The Twilight Valley.

Well that was...interesting. I feel like we should put up some warning signs. Ramirez looks at the magic field containing the city and wonders if there is any way to free those trapped inside. Maybe someday. He turns his attention back to the group. So, I feel like we should thank the Queen for her help before we try and go back to the dragon.

Free of the city, Gaffer gives a small bow and quiet "Thank you" to the Fae that helped them.
Then he turns to his allies and gives the same. "That was about as close it's been for me, so thank you again. And let's get out of here."

He sets about orientating himself in the forest and searching for the path back to Maab's palace.
