The Temple Rd 1 COMBAT (DM SteveK)

Desdichado volunteers to open the door, swaps to a morningstar and casts Magic Circle Against Evil.

Sarge moves up to the door and provides another burst of healing energy. She draws her warhammer and waits for whatever's behind the door.

Hmerrin pulls his axes, gets in behind Dez, absorbs some nice healing and protection spells, and waits.

Toston accepts the healing, casts mirror image and bull's strength, then takes a position side by side with Hmerrin and keeps his eye's peeled as the door opens.

Eisenhorn stays a safe distance away from the door, refreshes the shield spell on himself and checks on Shifty. It has been long enough that the Air Mephit returns to the Wizard and reports. “No one moving fast to or from the Manor. There are five large groups of people watching the place, and seem to be enough noise in some streets that more groups are coming.”

Gaffer nods to Sarge, "Thanks, that feels a lot better," and moves to the corner of the Shrine. (Gaffer gets 20% cover from the Manor Doors.

Sharpe steps back from the main door (staying on the shrine roof?) and lets the melee boys in front, readies his bow.

………….

Desdichado opens one door and then the other. They are not trapped, and reveal what could only be described as a room designed to guard other rooms. The room is spare, stripped of any finery. There is another Ga’alian Quad here, but they don’t seem to attempt to hide who they are; their chests are bare and prominently display the green vine poking out of their skin. Also in the room is a chest where Anduin is in Ga’alian clerical robes and just finished closing a chest. He looks up and shouts “We are under attack!” And disappears. Two guards move to block the door Desdichado just opened, and two guards block the only obvious way out: another set of double doors. Desdichado and Sarge can see there was another large room with more activity happening before the two guards closed those doors...

Sharpe stays perched on the shrine and tries to clear out the blockers. His second arrow smashes through a thick section of the guards Armour, almost like some sort of divine intervention.

Sarge steps aside and casts Bless on her companions.

Desdichado takes step inside the doorway and attacks the Quaded guard, but his morning star only connects once.

Eisenhorn moves in closer.

Toston points out ‘Anduin’ and his invisibility, then is invisible, takes a step up to fill the hole that Sarge opened, and makes a power attack against one of the quads with his spiked chain... missing.

Hmerrin grunts in disappointment. “Hey Sarge, you get that Make Bigger spell on you?"

Sharpe stays perched on the shrine and tries to clear out the blockers. Two arrows pierce Guard 1, and he starts to grin... they are not bleeding!

Guard 1 and 2 continue to plug the doors. One defensively attacks Dez and one Toston. (Dez is hit for 10 damage)

Guard 3 and 4 continue to guard the inner door with no move to the outer doors...

And ‘Anduin’ remains invisible, but must have cast a spell! Hmerrin, Sarge, Desdichado, and Toston make Will saves DC 18 or be Slowed.

Slow: Creatures affected by this spell are staggered and can take only a single move action or standard action each turn, but not both (nor may it take full-round actions). Additionally, it takes a –1 penalty on attack rolls, AC, and Reflex saves. A slowed creature moves at half its normal speed (round down to the next 5-foot increment), which affects the creature's jumping distance as normal for decreased speed.

He attempts to trip the Quad member in front of him using the spiked chain which provokes an AOO (28 vs Quad member 2's CMD to trip Quad member 2; if the attempt fails by 10 or more, Toston can drop the chain to avoid getting tripped himself)

Noting Toston's coment Eisenhorn quickly drops a Glitter Dust spell where Anduin supposedly is, trying to avoid hitting Toston in the process. ( DC19 Will Save or go blind. Visibly outlined).

He'll then move in to O21 right next to the shrine hoping to get at least some cover from it.

Sarge steps to Hmerrin and casts Enlarge Person. The young fighter is immediately Large!

Desdichado shrugs off the Slow spell then attacks again, slashing for a minor wound. connecting only once, then moves to make room for Hmerrin, but since Hmerrin is already big, the Paladin has to step to T24 instead.

Gaffer steps around the shrine, but can’t cast Faerie Fire: he needs a target creature, not a target area.

Hmerrin quips at another Quad with a different common power. He can’t step anywhere since he is hemmed in by his allies, but Hmerrin discovers that this Quad may be immune to piercing, they aren’t immune to slashing… axes work just fine! Guard 1 dies in three sprays of blood and gore!

Toston heroically avoids the Slow spell, and successfully puts Guard 2 on his back!

Sharpe also considers the Quad’s power as ‘immune from piercing weapons’. Just in case, he plugs the prone Guard 2 with an arrow. Yup, it just quivers in his thigh with no apparent effect.

Eisenhorn, from his vantage point, can target Y,Z/25,26 with a Glitter Dust spell, and catches both Guard 3 and 4 with glittery blindness! Anduin, however, was not on that side of the chest… The Wizard moves to the shrine, and loses line of sight on the Temple Doors.

Guard2 stays on the ground and cuts at Toston, missing.

Guard 3 and 4 stay blocking the door with their bodies, even though they can’t see.

Another spell is cast and the entrance to the Temple is filled with a circular Wall of Fire, a fire that is opaque from the outside and the fire turned in to the circle! Sarge is lucky, only inside the fiery circle, and takes 2 damage. The fiery wall lays across Gaffer, Hmerrin, and Desdichado… each take 22 damage! (minus any defenses)

This is gonna hurt.

Sarge moves to W-23. She can move through friendly squares, but she's going to take damage from the Wall of Fire, and soak up an AoO from Guard 2.

"Immune to piercing?" Sarge waves her warhammer. "Anybody wants a bludgeoning weapon, I got one here."

But this round, she has other priorities. Casting defensively [Concentration 30, success], she casts Invisibility Purge.

Desdichado grimaces from the fire damage. Noting that Hmerrin's axe seemed to make short work of the guard, he swaps between his morningstar for his greataxe, and takes a five foot step towards the guard (U:23), swiftly healing himself as he does so (lay on hands: 9 ugh).

He tries pushing forward, but finds his way blocked by people's backs. Figuring they're his people, he has no option but to back away into the courtyard, where he finds he can't see past the column of fire.

"You still got a way to blip us over?" he thinks to Eisenhorn.

Gritting his teeth as the flames erupt around him, Gaffer waves out a hand and casts Dispel Magic (Caster Level Check: 26) to remove the spell and free the party from pain and obstruction.

Hopefully, with the fire gone, he sees Sarge cast invisibility purge and nods his head, caring much more for dealing with Anduin than the quads.

Sharpe readies an arrow if he gets visibility on Anduin. Right now, he can’t see anything except an opaque wall of fire.

Eisenhorn casts Arcane Sight on himself. Right now, he can’t see past the Wall of Fire that is blocking all lines of sight to the temple doors.

Sarge tenses and moves into the temple and soaking up 22 damage from the Wall of Fire. Guard 2 tries to stab her as well, and barely misses! Although she is interested in the immune to piercing of the Guard, the grizzled warrior feels she has a higher priority and make anyone in her area who was invisible … visible!

Desdichado steps out of the Wall of Fire, swaps between his morningstar for his greataxe, and swiftly healing himself a little.

Hmerrin bellows as he finds himself bisected by a literal wall of fire. Not wanting to squeeze forward or stand still, he backs away and calls for ‘blip’ magic from Eisenhorn.

Toston charges his body with magical energy and launches a flurry of kicks against the downed Quad Guard 2.

Gaffer grits his teeth and casts Dispel Magic removing the inward burning ring of fire! Thanks to Sarge, everyone can see ‘Anduin’. Sharpe’s arrow misses.

Guard 2 keeps trying to block the door while prone. He stabs at Sarge, missing again.

Guard 3 and 4 continue to block the doors with their bodies.

Anduin glares at Sarge. “Later”, he mutters, and then … casts a Wall of Fire in the same place again! This time, however, the heat is directed outward! It again blocks line of sight from Sharpe, Hmerrin, Gaffer, and Eisenhorn. It causes 4 fire damage to Hmerrin and Desdichado [Toston shrugs it off]. It causes 4 damage to Sharpe, Eisenhorn, Sarge, and Guard 2. And Gaffer takes another 20 damage!

“Protect the holy temple! The blasphemers seek to loot and cause disorder!”, ‘Anduin’ shouts above the battle’s cacophony. ‘Anduin’ then moves further into a corner and away from the heroes.

She takes a 5-foot step [to W-24], to get a flank on Guard 2 with Toston. Then she strikes at the guard with her warhammer. [Hit AC 29 for 5 damage; hit AC 26 for 5 damage.]

Desdichado positions himself to threaten Guard 4 and Anduin. "Normally I'd be offended at being accused of 'looting and disorder'", the paladin quips, "but coming from you that sounds like high praise!"

Eisenhorn Dispels the second ring of fire and taunts ‘Anduin’, and preps Shifty for a defensive maneuver.

Hmerrin blinks as the fire wall disappears, reappears, and then disappears again. Maybe he can be forgiven his miss with all the spellslinging and embiggening.

Sharpe flies into the room, squeezing by Hmerrin (ooc: only made it to V,24) and attacks Anduin for what should have been a painful strike…

Anduin almost shrugs at Eisenhorn’s taunt and Desdichado’s advance. “You think me helpless now, Paladin? Magic is only a tool. Observe!” A fist strikes out, and again, and then Anduin’s mouth opens impossibly wide to bite the Paladin! All three hit, rending flesh and blood in sprays across the room! Toston also thinks that Anduin probably didn't survive the combined might of Des and Sharpe so he moves with Hmerrin to take on the Quad.

The gnome moves to X26 and tries to trip up Guard 3 with the spiked chain since it worked well last time and he is hasted now.

The Guard gets an AOO on the trip attempt and if Toston fails by 10 or more can attempt to trip Toston instead, Toston will drop the spiked chain to avoid getting tripped in that eventuality

Eisenhorn moves close to the temple doors and continues his verbal assault on the rakshasa. He then casts Haste on the party.

Desdichado cries out from the massive damage the rakshasa deals, and provides his own retort in mauling Kathenraj.

Sharpe takes his shots in the gaps of the combat and not even the ‘Herald of the Raja’ can stand up to the pounding by Paladin and Fighter. “No”, he coughs weakly, as if not really acknowledging it is over. Then the image of ‘Anduin’ slips away to show the glazed dead eyes of a tiger-headed rakshasa.

Sarge steps up to Dez and casts Cure Critical Wounds.

Hmerrin strides into the room and strikes out at Guard 3.

Toston also moves in with Hmerrin to take on the Quad. Toston misses, but because Guard 3 is blinded, he can’t respond either.

Gaffer follows forward to stand at the doorway and uses his Flaming Sphere to burn Guard 3. The druid considers it wise to hold off on casting more spells at this time.

Guard 3 is really wounded and both 3 and 4 are blind. They keep fully defensive positions in front of the door (round 6) and it takes another round to kill them to remove the physical barrier (round 7).

The heroes now have the double doors in front of them as the only way to continue into the temple. Desdichado and Sarge remember seeing a flurry of movement from the other room before Guard 3 and 4 closed the doors.

Sharpe takes time to breathe and suggests collecting treasure from the chests before they move on.

Desdichado sighs at violence having to be the end of the rakshasa problem, and suggests a change in attacking order.

Sarge wants to get some more healing done before running off, and keeps to the rear of the heroes.

Eisenhron wants to do a whole lot of things, but in six seconds can only note down the characteristics of the rakshasa (i.e. size, color, obvious features), move up, and cast Mirror Image. Everything else will have to wait unless he can convince the other heroes to slow down, and…

Hmerrin is in no mood to give the initiative to the defenders. “We can't wait. In we go, and we'll grab the chests on the way out." The young (large) fighter checks on the doors, and they are not locked…

Gaffer knows Flaming Sphere is not a dismissable spell. He can’t extinguish it, but he can direct it out into the courtyard to idle away until the spell ends. The druid positions himself to get a clear view through the door once it opens.

Toston agrees on not having much time, and positions himself for the right flank.

With a glance toward the heavens, and a couple words to Wardd, the lad nods, draws a breath, and throws open the doors.
"HONEY!" he cries, striding into the room, "I'M HOOOOME!"

Toston asks, "Shouldn't I go first? I am the hardest to hit so if anyone is waiting for the first thing to come into the room to attack and Hmerrin goes first its a lot easier to hit him than it is me."

Toston wants to be flying at U30 when Hmerrin throws open the door the flying gnome zips by the enlarged human fighter and asks "Is antlers around?, anybody see them?"

If an enemy is within striking range he first swiftly charges his attacks magic then power attacks with the spike chain otherwise he fires off a magic missile at the nearest bad guy (OOC: the +2 from my arcane strike should replace the base +1 on the magic weapon as the +2 is higher)

Sharpe starts to open the chest but on hearing the other shrugs, stands behind the chest for cover and aims to fire at the first hostile he sees, but he never sees one showing themselves at the doors.

Eisenhorn and his five mirror images stand ‘his’ ground peeking the corner and turns to Hmerrin "After you big man." he says with a grin.

Hmerrin gives Eisenhorn a sour look and makes an obscure quip (LOL!). A glance toward the heavens and a couple words to Wardd, the lad throws open the doors.
"HONEY!" he cries, striding into the room, "I'M HOOOOME!" Hmerrin is immediately attacked by eight Spiritual Weapons that were Ready, but they all miss! (oh, what horrible rolls!)

Sarge moves to follow Hmerrin.

Toston wants to be first, citing the tactical advantages, but Hmerrin is already through the door. The gnome zips in… and is blocked from his planned route because someone is already there: a tall elf in mail and holding a flail. His chest is proudly bare to display the writhing green vine emplaned in his skin! The gnome swings his spiked chain and scores the elf.

The heroes can see that this room looks like it used to be several rooms with the walls knocked down because the floors and ceilings are of different colors. Some old doorways have been blocked and sealed, and another shrine to Ga’al. Perception DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { The Shrine looks like it was hastily stripped of valuables; the Huge granite statue of Ga’al entwined by a marble vine with pod-like structures in agate looks a bit … threadbare. A last set of prisoners was getting ready to be marched to the Inner Shrine when the heroes arrive, and are now chained to a wall. }

Again, 8 Spiritual Weapons, looking like tridents, spear towards Hmerrin, with only one striking for 11 damage.

The flail-wielding elf against Toston calls out, “I will vanquish this one, Lord Galafar!”, and defensively casts a spell on Toston that strips him of his Telepathic Bond spell!

Another elf, this one holding a battleaxe calls out, “Strip his magics, Silverleaf, and I will lead the fight against our large interloper! Wholly together… cast!” Two Acolytes and the elf cast defensively, successfully avoiding Hmerrin’s great reach. Seven searing light spells beam towards Hmerrin, and the fighter is very lucky that only 2 strike the lad! Hmerrin takes19 damage!

There is another cleric standing on the steps to the shrine of Ga’al, an older human. “Keep the pressure, Amberdrake and Silverleaf! These are the blasphemers I have prophesied!”, he calls. “As the noble Anduin called his warning, stop them from taking the outer sanctum!” He doesn’t attack, but seems ready to counter an anticipated assault.

Eisenhorn cheers Hmerrin on "Don't worry your shirt will turn red with blood soon enough!... with the blood of your enemies I mean...well hope anyways..."

Seing the priest readying something Eisenhorn moves back to W26, hopefully out of sight of the High Priest. Then he casts Silent Image to create an illusory opaque wall between AA and AB in the coridor. Hoping to cut off line of sight between the Acolytes, Galafar and the two elves.

"OUTER Sanctum??" he groans. "You mean there's more people to kill after you lot?"

Somewhat surprised to still be up and about, the fighter sets about reducing the number of enemy.
In a flash, his handaxe is readied.
He takes a step and concentrates on removing acolytes.

Sarge edges through Hmerrin's space [to X-30]. Casting defensively, [Concentration 29, success] she calls down a Flame Strike on 1, 2, 3, 4, and A. They take 30 points of damage, DC 21 Reflex save for half. The damage is half fire, half untyped.

Eisenhorn moves back to avoid Galafar’s eye, then casts Silent Image to create an illusory opaque wall. He tries to completely cut off line of sight to separate the elves from their support, but Eisenhorn doesn’t have line of sight himself for the full spell. (Wall only up from between AA,AB 32-33). It doesn’t matter since Galafar detects the spell and Dispels the illusion before it even starts!

Hmerrin catches the words of Galafar, and sets about reducing the number of enemy. Two strikes is enough to drop Acolyte #2, and a hasted battleaxe strikes hard into Acolyte #3 (Rend didn’t occur this time because Hmerrin didn’t hit the same opponent with each of his two weapons)

Sarge, ensuring she was where she wanted to be, moves forward and defensively casts a Flame Strike to cover most of the defenders! Screams of pain echo in the chamber, and Acolyte #3 is dead.

Desdichado runs into the room and charges Acolyte #1, killing him as well!

Gaffer moves up to get a view into the hallway and begins casting Summon Nature's Ally…

Toston takes a diagonal step to widen the Tide’s beachead, and slams out against Silverleaf, but misses three times.

Sharpe moves to replace Eisenhorn and fires a shot at Amberdrake that misses.

Three of the Spiritual Tridents have disappeared, so only 5 strike at Hmerrin, all missing!

Acolytes 4, 5, and 6 fanatically don’t give up. “For the dominance of Ga’al!” they cry and surge to the attack. (Acolyte 6 has to cross Hmerrin’s reach and the fighter gets an AOO vs #6) All three cast spells and two attempt to touch Hmerrin and one on Desdichado. Only Hmerrin is touched, and takes 15 damage!

The flail-wielding elf called Silverleaf keeps Toston in play, but defensively casts a spell targeting Hmerrin. “Your will is mine! Obey and kill Gaffer the Druid!”, but he fails the juggle the magics and the spell fizzles!

Amberdrake tries the same stunt, and his Dominate Person spell works! [Hmerrin Will DC 17 or be Dominated and try to carry out the order to kill Gaffer as best he can.]

Galafar continues to exhort the priests and acolytes. “Ga’al’s eye is upon you! Show him your worthiness in battle! His majesty is above all!” He also casts a spell, another Searing Light, and Desdichado is struck hard for 29 damage!

More spellcasting to take over his mind, but the young fellow steels himself against the order.

"Wow, Gaffer," he calls out to the druid. "They REALLY don't like you. What'd you do to tick 'em off that much?"

Hmerrin sticks with what's been working. He takes another step to open space, and then tries taking out a couple more acolytes.

Toston isn't liking how hard to hit SIlverleaf is and decides to try a new tactic. He still swiftly overcharges the chain with magic (swift action - arcane strike) but then does something different.

(OOC: The rules say many combat maneuvers can be performed as part of an attack action, full-attack action, or attack of opportunity (in place of a melee attack); therefore I want to use a full attack action but substitute a trip attempt for my first attack)

He makes a full attack with his spiked chain but on his first attack he will try to trip up the priest with the spiked chain instead of damaging him.

The trip attempt provokes an AOO from Silverleaf's

Attack 1 = Trip Attempt: 27 vs Silverleaf's CMD; if this fails by 10 or more Toston is tripped instead but he can avoid falling by dropping the chain; which he will do

Hmerrin bats away the tridents, and heroically steels himself against magical compulsions trying to make him kill Gaffer. The lad sticks with what's been working, takes another step to open space, and then kills Acolyte 4 and 6 before landing a wounding blow on Amberdrake.

Sharpe attempts to keep pressure on Amberdrake, but only manages 1 hit.

Desdichado reels from the burning light and retaliates with a few scratches before healing himself.

Toston tries a new tactic. Magic-charging his chain, he first trips Silverleaf and then tries to pummel the elf; missing as magical defenses deflect his strikes.

Eisenhorn uses his wand of shield to recast Shield on himself.

Gaffer finishes summoning the Tiger which appears at AD33 and, Acolyte 4 being dead, the Tiger launches itself at Galafar! It misses.

For his own action Gaffer attempts to target Galafar with a simple Chill Metal spell, but, surprisingly, the cleric has no metal on his person! The druid moves sideways.

Sharpe continues his barrage on Amberdrake, killing him.

Hmerrin whacks Silverleaf as the elf rises, and, since Sharpe killed Amberdrake, continues to pile on Silverleaf.

Toston taunts Silverleaf, and while he strikes him as he rises, can’t lay another glove.

Gaffer steps back and begins another Summon Nature's Ally.

Battered, Silverleaf attacks Toston with his flail and misses twice. “Lord Galafar they are too strong!”

Galafar looks condescendingly at Silverleaf. “Bah, what use have I for such weak pawns? Fight them until your corpse smokes on the stones, or you shall know pain for eternity!” Galafar, the old human, melts away, and in his place is a Large woman with backwards-grasping hands and a leonine head. Galafar is another Rakshasa!

The Large Rakshasa slides away from Sharpe's line of sight and casts a spell. Eisenhorn attempts to counter but fails. A Flame Strike catches Sarge, Hmerrin, and Desdichado! They each take 40 points of damage!! (Reflex DC 21 for half)

Silverleaf, bloodied and battered, drops his flail. “LIAR!”, he shouts, “You are no follower of the great Peacemaker! Ga’al strike you down!” The Rakshasa known as Galafar only laughs.

Calling upon Domi's aid he cries out "Grant us the power to overcome this evil beast!" as a faint blue shimmer surrounds him and his companions. (Aura of Justice).

Using what he has remaining, Gaffer casts Wall of Thorns so as to cover everything in rows AF,AG and AH, to prevent the rakshasa from getting away, or going towards the innocents in the back.

Eisenhorn compares rakshasa to cockroaches, then moves to get a view before casting a Grease spell, which the Rakshasa avoids.

Desdichado offers a respite to Silverleaf, who accepts in the face of a common enemy! The Paladin then calls on his aura of justice to affect himself, Hmerrin, Sarge, and Toston!

Sarge targets the Rakshasa formerly known as Galantar as her smite, and channels positive energy to heal her companions and exclude Silverleaf and Galafar.

Hmerrin nods gratefully at Sarge, and then smirks as he feels Dez' aura. He asks for Silverleaf to do more than just accept a truce, and steps forward and plants a huge wound in the Rakshasa.

Gaffer finishes summoning his fire elemental, watches as the Large Rakshasa swipes an AOO at the elemental for 13 damage, and then the fiery being misses. The druid then casts wall of thorns to hinder any retreat or using the captives as a shield.

Toston declares his smite target as ‘Galafar’, swiftly charges his spiked chain, and flies forwar. ‘Galafar’, however, is swift and uses a claw with cunning and critical opportunity! Toston takes 30 damage . And after the charge, the gnome misses…

Sharpe re-positions inside the Outer Shrine, and fires a shot, but is unable to get a solid hit.

Silverleaf redirects his Spiritual Trident from Hmerrin to “Galafar”, missing. He also backs up and away from his weapon, further demonstrating his agreement to the truce.

The Large Rakshasa laughs at the Tide, her golden eyes flashing. “You think you will kill me? Or even make me flee? Foolish mortals! I go to the Inner Shrine to open the portal for an army of Jannissaries and Rakasha to raze this city to the dirt which is its namesake! A defensively cast spell and ‘Galafar’ DimDoors away!

Silverleaf groans. “The Inner Shrine is through a corridor behind the holy Ga’al and now warded by this Wall of Thorns. We will never be able to stop him in time!”

Desdichado calls to get Eisenhorn to take down the Wall of Thorns.

Sarge quips on her lack of surprise, and moves up to eye the wall.

Eisenhorn checks with Gaffer (who can dismiss the Wall spell).

Hmerrin mutters words and calls to Silverleaf…. which way? The Ga’alian cleric points to the corridor on the left of the Shrine. “A corridor 20’ long ends in the Inner Shrine and what was supposed to be the most sacred communion to Ga’al. Only Galafar was allowed to that area.”

Toston readies his flight pending Gaffer.

Sharpe keeps eyes and ear open trying to get a sense of what they can expect beyond the thorns.

Gaffer quickly dismisses the Wall of Thorns, Toston zips down the corridor, and the druid follows, but much slower. Fire Elemental follows.

Toston zips through the corridor and around another (stripped) Shrine, and the gnome can relay back to Hmerrin and Eisenhorn.

Silverleaf heals himself.

Behind the ‘shrine’ are treasures: gold, jewels, art, and magic items. A Tiger and Stag-headed Medium rakshasa are throwing treasures into a large magical ‘window’, but the last handful … bounces. Where it used to be the scene of a palace throne room, now only gray clouds and a pair of Golden Eyes stare at ‘Galafar’ and the other two Rakshasa. “You have failed to expand our realm, and let Meat learn of us. I am most displeased. You are banished until you can regain your control of the Dirt City Plantation.” The Golden Eyes glow. “Good Eating.” And the Gate… vanishes.

Galafar (seemingly healed of Hmerrin’s wound), Tiger, and Stag turn and see Toston. They are in a killing rage.

Sharpe hustles up to the corridor, peeks round the corner, and sees the 20’ long corridor and a large (stripped) statue of Ga’al at the far end. He can’t see the rakshasa or treasure beyond…

Desdichado hastily runs as far as he can down the corridor and right up to Galafar in the inner sanctum. The large rakshasa aims an opportunistic claw at the paladin. Des takes 9 damage

Sarge moves next to Sharp and dismisses the Enlarge Person spell on Hmerrin.

Hmerrin takes off after Dez, swinging into line beside him, and sassing the Large rakshasa, who angrily aims another opportunistic strike, this time at the blond lad! Hmerrin takes 19 damage!

Toston attempts to acrobatically advances on "Galafar", but the Large Rakshasa is uncommonly swift and strikes at the gnome as well!! Again, the rakshasa unerringly bypasses Toston’s Mirror Images and lands a critical blow! Toston takes 34 damage

EIsenhorn hustles forward and bumps into Sharpe and Sarge, all three trying to occupy the same space.

Gaffer hustles through the corridor himself to get a view of the fight. His fire elemental does as commanded and moves ahead of the druid.

Silverleaf heals himself again, and moves forward towards Eisenhorn, Sharpe, and Sarge. “I do not think you are willing to allow me to help, but this is my temple and my god. I swear by the Trident of Ga’al that I will raise no hand against you while you are within this temple’s walls.”

Behind the ‘shrine’ and among the treasures, the Tiger and Stag-headed rakshasa join in the fight. The Stag does a stagger step and casts a Lighting Bolt; Hmerrin, Desdichado, and Toston take 33 electrical damage, Reflex DC16 for half. The tiger casts an Acid Arrow at Toston that misses.

Galafar roars. “You… are… so… bothersome!”, she emphasizes each word with a claw aimed at Hmerrin. It is amazing how fast the large lion-headed rakshasa moves! “Now, meat, I will kill you as I wanted from the beginning!”, and she snaps her fangs. Luckily, only two claws penetrate the fighter’s armor, and Hmerrin takes 29 damage.

As he twists to shout towards Silverleaf, he falls directly into the path of the oncoming lightning. Toston is getting pummeled by "Galafar" but his monk training kicks in and he completely dodges the lightning. He see Hmerrin cough up blood and press on as the gnome is not to be outdone by his human fighter.

EIsenhorn will move up to AG27 and try to Slow the three Rakshasa hoping that his spellwork is good enough to overcome any inate resistances they may have. (SR Roll: 17 + 12 = 29) (Will Save DC:19 or Staggered and –1 penalty on attack rolls, AC, and Reflex saves, half movement speed.) Once the spell is cast he moves back to AH29 and checks on the prisoners to see if there is a way to quickly free them.

Desdichado yells back to Silverleaf “For the love of Domi, help!” Claws and lightning are partially healed by the paladin, but he only connects with his axe once.

Sharpe feels it’s a cartoonish set-up at the door, and runs to the shrine to get a good look at the battle before sliding an arrow into ‘Galafar’.

Hmerrin spits out blood, and, reviewing his options, attacks!

Sarge echoes Desdichado’s call to Silverleaf, with a Domi-like dig. She hurries forward and heroically channels healing to her companions!

Toston is getting pummeled, but the healing helps, and he heroically changes to his Golden Dragon form to challenge the Large Rakshasa. He gets an insight that ‘Galafar’ must have True Seeing!

EIsenhorn will move up along the corridor, but still doesn’t have any line of sight to the three rakshasa, and so can’t/ doesn’t cast his Slow spell.

Gaffer must take a step forward to get enough line of sight on ‘Galafar’ to cast Baleful Polymorph to turn ‘Galafar’ into a Common Lizard! The druid pierces the rakshasa’s spell resistance, but the beast withstands the magic!

The Fire Elemental follows directions and moves carefully and attempt to flank Galafar, getting struck by not only Galafar, but the Tiger-headed Rakshasa as well! Fire Elemental takes 23 damage. With its previous damage, it falls away back to the elemental planes.

Silverleaf responds to Desdichado and Sarge by running headlong down the corridor, squeezing by Eisenhorn, running up and over the steps of the shrine, and right into the Tiger-headed rakshasa! “Ga’al accursed monster. Your days of using his temple as a front are over!”

Sharpe sees Stag helping Galafar, and targets the rakshasa, 85 damage.

Desdichado continues attacking Galafar, but the rashaka's defenses are just too much for him to overcome. He, instead, feels that Domi may actually want to heal a cleric of Ga’al?!

Gaffer casts Dispel Magic Greater on Galafar hoping to strip away some protections, but can’t get through the great rakasha’s spell resistance! The druid also calls his support to the cleric of Ga’al.

Sarge grumbles at the paladin’s suggestion, but lets out another burst of healing energy, this time including Silverleaf, but still excluding Galafar.

Hmerrin gets healed and hit and healed again, then growls back at Galafar. Blow after blow lands on the Rakshasa, rocking it back. “Impossible!”, she wails, “Incon…” Hmerrin doesn’t give her time to even finish, and the Takada Rakshasa lays dead on the floor of the Inner Temple! (WoW!!!)

Toston, Galafar already dead, can move over to Stag and finish him off with a bite.

Eisenhorn moves up, and observes the fight, waiting for a chance to act.

Silverleaf and Tiger are in a toe-to-toe fight, Rakshasa kukri against Ga’alian cudgel. Both are spitting curses and taunts at each other. “I trusted you!” “Yes, that was so funny, wasn’t it?” “Aaaarrgh!!” So much so, neither notice the rest of the fight is over in the rest of the temple. The Tide can wade in and just finish one or both of them off in a couple seconds, or wait and see how this fight turns out!

They called this the Dirt City Plantation and mentioned a realm. I think we need to make sure this operation isn't bigger specifically within Dirt City than this temple of Ga'al. When the authorities get here we might need to request access to the bodies tomorrow so that Sarge can speak with the dead, either that or we take Galafar's head with us as a trophy and just speak to it tomorrow. We will also need to cross-reference our notes from the farm. Do you think giant gold eyes are enough information to scry on? It is the will of Ga'al to ensure that others know his priests are not part of the evil outsiders' plans. Rakshasa do not succumb to the Will of Ga'al! Stand with me and I will proclaim this to the people and give them solace."

The Ga'alian priest looks about. "Ga'al has no use for this place of deceit and defeat. Take all that you will save only his image. I will return to Alisidur and renew my surrender to my deity."

"As for the Gate you describe, I never saw it. The one called Galafar forbid Amberdrake and myself from coming into the Inner Temple, as well as any other follower. I did not know anything occuring, having only seen the statue of the Inner Temple. Only the rakshasa pretending to be priests like Orome, Tigrr, Mascachal, Renfear, and Galafar went into the Inner Temple."

If there are other base of operations out there then we need to hit them hard and fast."

"I don't think we have a bag of holding, but if we are sure things are safe perhaps one of you still telepathically linked with Nissa will let her know we need help moving a pile of loot again. She can cast floating disk and can carry 900 pounds of items on a floating disk with one casting. I believe 3 sets of full plate weigh 150 pounds on their own. If the rest of this stuff plus the fullplate weighs 900 pounds or less we can get it all out of here if we can just get Nissa over here."

Sarge, Desdichado, and Silverleaf continue to have an amiable if awkward and slightly tense conversation liberally sprinkled with quotes and maxims of Domi and Ga’al respectively. Basically, Silverleaf gives the Temple and everything in it to The Tide, which includes all treasures currently in the Courtyard or Temple. The only thing that Silverleaf does is mar the statues of Ga’al, smashing the pointed teeth inside each head to make it look like NOT Ga’al.

Sharpe comes back into the Temple to inform the others that a great crowd is outside the Courtyard and looking like they are sorta trying to decide what to do.

The Tide has all the magic, all the treasures, and all the bodies. They also have the possession of a building that is not sitting in any of the Houses areas of control. With a crowd sitting outside and a cooperative cleric of Ga’al, it is pretty much our heroes’ initiative to do whatever they want to do...

Toston says to his adventuring party, "Hold up! Before we go engage the crowd, It seems like we have control of this temple and Silverleaf is willing to just give it to us. We have a Golden Opportunity here. If Silverleaf is ceding control of the temple on behalf of his order then let's take it over ourselves. We want to make a change in Dirt City, right? Free real estate especially in the form of a temple doesn't come along every day. If we abandon the Temple and head back home, then one of the Houses will claim it and expand their influence. This temple is outside of the jurisdiction of house control. Remember when we moved into Shale House and we had to pay protection money to one of the houses and how bad that sat with us? It sounds like if we take the Temple for our own and this building is outside of House control then we wouldn't have to pay protection and we'd actually establish our own foothold within Dirt City where The Tide could actually claim their own territory and protect it without claiming protection money from those who dwell within our protected territory. We could have an influence on Dirt City for the better as we could eke out a piece of the city where the Goodness and Justice of Heroes reign for the people in contrast to the dog eat dog, corrupt status quo with the houses. We could be the change within Dirt City that we want to see as our part of Dirt City could function as an example of how life in the city could be for everyone if the people in the city wanted it.

Toston is really curious to see how things go with his friends and how they process his reasoning but if it looks like they are still persistent in moving on he will try to force the issue by saying (if he is still a dragon out loud: "I CLAIM THIS BUILDING AS MY HOARD"). He doesn't want to split the party but he wants them to consider what is being offered here before they just move on.

To just the party - "I don't know about you guys but whilst this temple does seem to suit our needs better I'm a little worried about what would happen to shale house without us there to protect it. Would we use it as a base for charitable work or perhaps you would consider selling to fund the purchase of a safe house we could use to help those in trouble with other denizens of the city."

The Tide consider the ramifications of having this set of buildings for their own.

Silverleaf has to admit he didn’t know about the Rakshasa until about five minutes ago. “Galafar was a wealthy merchant of Dirt City who invited Ga’alian priests to come here as a hidden testing spot for as long as I can remember; nearly 20 years. About 5 years ago; Galafar decided to be HeartSeeded and turn his manor into a Temple for Ga’al. It has only been since the terrible attack in the Arena that Galafar has been pushing for putting the treasures of the Temple into the Inner Temple for safe keeping.”

At the Gate, once thrown open, the crowd hangs back. After a minute or so of shuffling, it is clear that senior representatives of all six Houses are here, along with a representative of the Prince of of Thieves. It seems none of them are quite ready to see The Tide opening the Gate and brazenly starting the conversation.

“Um, yes”, begins a Wolf Pack Leader, “the rumor was a big fight was happening, and, well, The Tide...”

“Yes, The Tide. YOUR clients, I believe”, sneers the Senior Teeth representative.

“Enough”, states the Prince’s guard captain. “Let them say what is going on before we deliberate with the Houses.

All eyes; in various states of suspicion, Hope, or genuine curiosity; turn to the heroes....

In for a penny, in for a pound.

As the senior representives recover from his entrance, and the rest of the Tide joins him, Hmerrin takes off his helmet, wipes the sweat out of his eyes, and waits.

“Enough”, states the Prince’s guard captain. “Let them say what is going on before we deliberate with the Houses.

"Sooo glad you asked," Hmerrin responds lightly. "You all remember that big fire a few days ago that burned up that city block, I'm sure. That was an attempt to lure out and kill us. Turns out there's been a pack of shape shifting, people eating creatures called Rakshasa operating a people slaughterhouse in the hills northwest of the city. We got a map. Happy to show it to whoever wants to see it.

Our Rakshasa farmers have been paying low-lifes to round up unfortunates in the city, and haul them out to this place, where they get imprisoned until some rakshasa is ready for dinner. I hear sometimes they killed the victims before they ate them, sometimes not.

After we got attacked, we found out about that 'farm', and shut it down, with extreme prejudice.
The rakshasa responded by kidnapping our friends and business partners, and threatening to kill them if we got in the way again. They were based in this complex here, posing as priests of Ga'al.
Well, we got in the way again, and came here, and cleaned out the place.
This fellow (Silverleaf) can back us up. He's a true priest of Ga'al, so we don't agree on much. But we do agree that posing as priests so you can eat people is bad.

There was indeed a big fight, and it's over, and we've eliminated a cult that's been using Dirt City as its own personal meat locker for the last 20-odd years.

And as it turns out, this piece of property sits in neutral territory.
Which means, from now on, so do we.

And that means....," and now Hmerrin's tone drops several degrees from light-hearted banter to stone-cold serious, practically spitting out the last word

Desdichado takes in Silverleaf’s comments about Galafar, and wonders whether the merchant was killed and replaced before or after being Heartseeded. “Is that an aspect of a person they can copy?” he wonders. He tries to remember to later ask Eisenhorn what he knows about this type of magic.

He has another sudden thought: “What if they have been copying us elsewhere! I should bring this up with the others once this mess is sorted.”

Walking out with Hmerrin, Desdichado starts to respond to the leaders’ request for information. Hearing the fighter’s response, he nods along in approval. He points to the side with his thumb at Hmerrin and says, “Yeah, what he just said.”

Toston says, "Well technically we still own Shale House which is in Wolf Territory and we are still figuring out just what that means for our tenants at this time. Our tenants are our friends and part of what set events in motion here was the threatening of our friends by the Rakshasha, just throwing that out there. It looks like We, The Tide, though are considering relocating to this building outside of your jurisdictions as my companion so eloquently pointed out. Still though we would appreciate it if you would not hassle our friends if we decide to keep Shale House as Landlords and not sell it and relocate our tenants here with us or purchase a building nearby outside of your jurisdiction that is on par with Shale House for our tenants. We are still discussing logistics but we take our friendships very seriously as you can see." He smiles.

He continues, "Now back to these shapeshifting slave masters and predators, they obstensibly have other "plantations" elsewhere. I'm not sure if these "plantations" are limited to the Wold or could possibly extend to other planes as Rakshasha are technically speaking outsiders. I was thinking we would cast Speaks with Dead on some of the remains of the Rakshasha from our most recent encounter in order to see if we could determine if this Temple was their sole remaining operation in what they considered the Dirt City "Plantation" or if there are other Rakshasha still hidden among us here as well. Now I think we can all agree that letting shapeshifting outsiders torture, murder and eat the citizens of Dirt City is wrong. I'm not accusing anyone of having any dealings with the Rakshasha or being aware of what they were up to, but we, The Tide, are going to ensure that there are no more Rakshasha operations targetting Dirt City and we would appreciate the help of the Office of The Prince and The Houses in ensuring that. If any of you have any information about possible other "Plantation" related operations We, The Tide, would appreciate it if you could share that information with us. We are going to follow up on the information we have from here and the other places these Rakshasha were operating we already shut down in order to ensure they are gone from Dirt City once and for all. Hypothetically speaking we would not be happy if we later learned from our own investigation into the Rakshasha that some people knew things they didn't share and ended up prolonging their operations in Dirt City. I think we can all agree though that having these predators operate in the city is bad for your businesses and I look forward to cooperating with you fine folks to ensure this threat has been truly eliminated."

Hmerrin, in a simple, no-nonsense story, lays out what has been happening vis-a-vis burning a city block, carnivorous slaving, the Farm and the Temple. Desdichado backs him up, and Silverleaf nods his own agreement. The crowd gasps and hangs on every word, and the crowd is so large that Sharpe can't focus on any one person for long enough to see any surprise out of the ordinary. (ooc: Sharpe will have to designate one person and do a Sense Motive check to get that information.)

Toston goes into further detail, doing a caveat on Shale House (which has a couple Houses visibly sharpen their arguments on Wolf Clients) and talking about planes, speaking with the dead, and a potentially greater Rakshasa influence and conspiracy. As a whole, the crowd gets a glazed look, all this really going over most heads, even the Prince's Captain of the Guard and most of the House representatives. The end of his speech, however, gets back to things that the Houses, Prince, and common people can understand: information, patronage, and threats of what will happen if you don't...

Gaffer turns into a Hawk (with audible gasps from many in the crowd) and perches to look for their tails earlier. Either they are hiding well in the great crowd of people or they aren't there at all; but Gaffer can't find the Tails.

Most of the crowd, being non-House people of the Moontown, Grubbertown, or the Backstab Quarter keep quiet, though there is a sussurus of conversation below the level to hear. Our heroes have been in Dirt City long enough to recognize people who are interested in the outcome but don't want to attract attention... attention that too often comes with pain.

The House Reps all start trying talking at once, The Tide's status, Galafar's House status, Rakshasa, who should get any rewards and treasure... And it takes a minute or two for the Prince's Guard Captain to diplomatically settle things down to where the Reps are more or less in a listening mood.

The Keys Rep slides into the opening with oiled ease. "There are several items to discuss, and no one wants to deal with the details while shouting in front of a crowd. Will the Tide invite the Houses inside so we may discuss civily?" While the Knives don't think an invitation is necessary (since their contract wit the Prince allows them to investigate any disturbance), and the Wolves think THEY should be the ones asked (since Toston affirmed the Tide is in fact tenants of the Wolves), the other four Houses and the Prince's Captain shout down the objections.

Then they wait to see what The Tide has to say.

The Tide quickly (Hmerrin less quickly than most) reject the invitation into Galafar's House/ Temple of Ga'al/ The Tide's new place; and suggests a neutral tavern to talk to the Six Houses plus Prince team. This, of course, starts fresh arguing among the Houses as to what nearby tavern would be 'neutral'. After all, the place where this very public discourse is happening is in front of a fortified manor near the conjunction of Moontown, The Backstab Quarter, Grubbertown, and the Scrum. No one discussing owns the area which means there is no where large enough for all parties involved.

This takes a few more minutes before the Prince's Captain again comes up with a solution: they will set up a large tent right here in front of Galafar's House. More argument and compromise occurs while the tent is sent for and being set up. Eventually, the Prince's man has a tent large enough for the seven Tide Heroes, three members of each House, and two members of the Prince's household and Wardd's Temple. Each group brings thier own food and drink.

WIth a wry smile, the Prince's Captain then turns to the Tide and whispers. "OK, I've burned a lot of favors and political capital to keep the Houses from killing each other in an area away from the eyes of everyone in Dirt City. I hope your information and conditions are worth it. This is either going to be a new era of cooperation not seen since Violet and Arturo, or a bloodbath of vendettas, both inside the Houses and Dirt City itself."

It looks like, once again, the Heroes have the initiative...

Once everyone is in the tent, Desdichado says “I’m finding it difficult to understand what ‘all the topics’ we need to discuss are. Hmerrin here just told you everything that’s been happening over the past few weeks. You have a problem in your Houses: some of you are rakshasa in disguise. We now have territory that is outside of your control from which we will be continuing the fight against them – with our without your help.”

After quieting down, Desdichado keeps his attention on the House representatives. If any of them try to downplay the talk of rakshasas, or accuse the Tide of being untrustworthy about that part, he keeps his attention on the first to do so. (Sense motive: 32)

"Look, all you Houses are constantly jostling around, looking for the upper hand," Sarge says. "And believe me when I say we want no part of that. We wanna stay out of it. And we're thinking of making this place a refuge for people who also wanna stay out of it. We aren't trying to challenge you, or anything like that; we just wanna make a safe place.

"And like Dez said, we wanna make sure the Rakshasas are really gone. Some of 'em may have infiltrated some of your Houses. I know that ain't a comfortable thought, but it's no use pretending otherwise. You want our help with it, we're happy to help. If you don't want our help--well, we still gotta make sure they're gone."

Toston clears his throat "I know there are various intrigues going on in Dirt City with the various houses jockeying amongst each other, forming aliances and trying to gain power and prestige. I've been here for a while now. I've fought undead, fake ghosts, and people trafficking in arms to the Sahuagin among other things. I've fought and defeated the would-be upstart House of Silver, I've defended Dirt City and the rest of the Wold during the Sargrass invasion. I've gone on various adventures. Over the course of this time I've had run ins with the various houses, some pleasant, some unpleasant. Yes, Shale House is in Wolves territory but never have we called on you for anything."

The gnome takes out the tokens or markers the tide has accumulated (OOC: I think we only ever had tokens from the cloaks and the keys, but if anyone else remembers maybe Hmerrin did we ever get any other marker or token from another house).

"We got these from the keys and the cloaks (OOC: and any other tokens I'm forgetting). We never had cause to use these and I don't want to use these now, but look, whatever The Golden Eyes signifies that is leading the Rakshasha it is bigger than us."

He points to Hmerrin's fancy cloak and says, "That cloak signifies Hmmerin is recognized as a friend of the prince. I was there too, but I was much more wary so I never got recognized"

Toston says, "We found documentation at the operation we shut down at the arena that led us to the 'farm.'
After we shut 'the farm' down permanently we found our way to the Temple we're now camped outside of. I'm willing to share what evidence we have with you if you need more proof. (OOC: assuming we can send for the documents from the arena/the farm). This fight with the Rakshasha's was not one that we went looking for. It came to our door and went after our friends and we finally found a means to fight back in a meaningful way. I'm not sure how deep the Rakshasha's have infliltrated or were all their "farms" are as I've said previously. To them we are nothing more than 'meat'. Sarge and Des joined us after they received a vision of ruin from their deity involving Dirt City. I'm pretty sure the Rakshashas are the doom that was envisioned. As I've previously stated I think it is within all our interests to work together. I'm willing to answer whatever questions you have about the Rakshashas. I'm hoping that you all will join The Tide in our battle against them. We want to make sure we've removed any trace of their operations from Dirt City."

Desdichado seems to find it difficult that the people with the power in Dirt City, the City of Thieves, don't just take a Paladin at his word. He again starkly lays out the facts; Rakshasa, in the Houses, and in Dirt City.
And the Houses are not going to interfere as the Tide purges the Rakshasa from ... everywhere.

Sarge states her opinion that the discussion is more because of the jostling of the Houses. She brings straight out that The Tide isn't only not going to be involved in the jostling, but to even focus on those others in Dirt City who also want out of the jostling! The Rakshasa? Yeah, that's just what Desdichado says.

Toston adds to Sarge's statements; bringing the various representatives back to reminders of work the Tide have done for years; the goodwill they have with several Houses, even Hmerrin's cloak demonstrating the Prince's Thanks. Why, the Tide isn't some do-gooder team sweeping in from Plateau City, they are locals! And he lays his evidence of Rakshasa in a persuasive manner to the Houses.

Sharpe seconds what Sarge said.

Eisenhorn considers to withdraw back to the Temple, but that raises objections from all the House Reps and the Guard Captain. Basically, they want to deal with all The Tide equally, and will be suspicious if one of them (i.e. E) goes away. If Eisenhorn still wants to go to the Temple, he can, but he may sour the discussion...

Hmerrin has had his say, and tries to look competent.

While the House Reps seem to be a generally suspicious lot, very jealous of perceived rights, and opportunistic for increasing their Houses own power while reducing that of each of their competitor Houses: they also seem to resonate with what Sarge and Toston have said.

First, that there are Rakshasa in Dirt City and prevalent enough to have claimed to have infiltrated all Houses is hard to swallow. The Houses don't want to admit a weakness, but getting a couple of the bodies to show off and Silverleaf giving his own testimony and how his cult of Ga'al was infiltrated makes the Reps start to look around and wonder. The Chief Cloak finally speaks what they are all thinking. "OK, Tide, you have helped in the past and not upset the balance of Dirt City; so we trust you if not each other. The Cloaks are going to do some interrogating and purging as soon as we are done here." And the other Houses are quick to emulate that sentiment. No one invites (or allows) the Tide to go into their House, and none jump on the 'everyone ally with the Tide' bandwagon, but they will fight the Rakshasa their way.

Then there is The Tide's statement of not Neutrality, but non-political activity. This takes more discussion. While true no House controls the middle of Dirt City, all have 'activity' there and WANT to control the area. It takes the Temple of Wardd and Prince's Captain together to convince the Houses that having the Tide here ensures no House will control the area to get to be a super House, "and besides, Wardd's Luck is fickle", muses the priest of Wardd. "When the ox dung hits the winnowing fan, it may be real nice to have the Tide sitting right here for any one of you." Cloaks, Keys, and Wolves are the first to agree, and with a majority, the Prince's Captain calls it a deal. "Take this back to your Houses, and I to the Prince. Expect a Council of Thieves soon to ratify what we speak of here today."

Silverleaf reiterates his deeding Galafar's Manor-turned-Temple to the Tide, and reinforces that there may be more records for the Tide to learn who in Dirt City was a Rakshasa or at least on their payroll. This makes the House Reps (and the Guard Captain) cast suspicious looks once more; but at least they are acknowledging the threat.

Gaffer can't help but feel surprised by how smoothly everything seems to have gone and suddenly feels at a bit of a loss. No longer in Hawkform, he will set about cleaning up the temple. Moving any remaining bodies to the courtyard and checking on each of the side rooms for any personal belongings of those who used to occupy them, gathering what he can out in the coutyard area, though not directly with the bodies.

Unless there's more to discuss, Sarge leaves the meeting and returns to the former temple to help with cleanup.

As an aside to the others (hopefully out of hearing for anyone non-Tide), Desdichado says, "Why is the Prince's guard captain so quickly aiding our cause? Makes me think either got something to hide in all this, or the Prince is currently on shaky ground."

Toston says, "Technically we saved the prince's bacon once by exposing a plot within his midst to give weapons to the Sahuagin in exchange for outlawed elemental gems. Hmerrin, Gaffer and I were there. Later he invited us to the Castle to speak with us and 3 of our number oficially agreed to a deal where we stay out of House business and they stay out of ours. That is where Hmerrin's fancy cloak came from as I misremembered my adventures. Other folks who went off on their own since were with us for both adventures but Eisenhorne, Sharpe, Des and Sarge - you guys are all right."

He asks, "Anyone got a way to keep those corpse's fresh?"

To Sarge he says, "I hope you didn't take me as being to presumpsious of your spells with respect to speaks with dead but I think between that, Silverleaf's tax records and our existing documentation we should be able to continue our own investigations into where the Rakshasha's still are."

To Eisenhorne and Hmerrin he says, "Can one of you that still have a mental connection to Nissa let her know I'm okay? Also tell her to remain on high alert until we figure out what other operations the Rakshasha's may have in Dirt City but there is hope that the Prince and Houses are dealing with the Rakshashas in their own way?"

He then says, "Now my friends let's have a drink. I'd like to offer a toast to the fact that we're all still standing and it seems like we've eked out a neutral zone inside Dirt City were we have oversight, for lack of a better word, and not one of the houses. I think that might be the best we can hope for with respect to Dirt City. It isn't exactly ideal but it is what it is." He pauses.

He then continues,"I'd also like to also offer a toast to the Tide; for all the heroes and adventurers who have adventured with us from our humble beginnings as associates of the Crescent Moons Trading Company from before we were officially the Tide until now: Wil, Ashley, Ethani, Var, Lornak, Broom, Asteria, Avin, Telanthrel, Roy, Alizar, Dušan, Hmerrin, Gaffer, Sarge, Des, Eisenhorne, Sharpe and myself; Not all of us were here for all our adventures but I think this, our current incarnation, is the most powerful The Tide has ever been - To us, and to our past, present and potential future colleagues wherever they may be."

Seeing the message broadcast clearly enough that even one as socially inept as him can understand it, Eisenhorn decides to stay. At Toston's request Eisenhorn proceeds to let Nissa know that Toston is fine, and to remain vigilant.

Listentning to the conversation Eisenhorn asks "So wait... if we are not under any house and are politically neutral I have a lot of questions and he starts off carefully examining their new rights and responsibilties with the Prince's captain and the other house members." he then begins barraging the various representatives with his questions on the TIde's new status in the city

" Can we set our own laws for the area?

Who has the authority to police our area? Do we have to do it? If so, are we allowed to hire help to do this?

Are we allowed to expel other house members from the area if they were to perform activities which the Tide do not find acceptable in the center of town?

Do we have the authority to levy taxes or tarrifs in the area that we are responsible for?

Who abjudicates disputes in the area under our control? Should we reffer everyone to the Prince or do we have to appoint a member of the Tide as the responsible magister for the area?

Can we give construction permits in the area under our control? Can we allow for the construction of new places of worship?

If the Tide members die, would a new person joining the Tide automatically receive custody of the central area?

If any of the Houses deliberately try to push us out of this area do we have any recourse other than fighting them? Alternatively if we were to join with a House to allow them access to the Area what is stopping us? Who enforces our Neutrality?

Is the Tide responsible for providing any public services in the area under our control?

Is the Prince now our lawful liege? Does the Prince provide any funding to assist us in managing and developing the area? "

Gaffer, Sarge, Desdichado, and Toston seems to agree that the Reps and Captain take the information and discussions back to their principles, and pretty much wrap up the meeting.

Desdichado is suspicious of the Guard Captain, but Toston, Hmerrin, or Gaffer can give him the inside skinny on the Prince of Thieves. The Prince isn't the undisputed ruler of Dirt City; challenges happen all the time; mostly not in the public eye. Prince must demonstrate an ability to control the Houses, and is expected to demonstrate that ability pretty quickly after ascending to the position. One way to maintain the balance of power is to agree with the majority of Houses in most disputes.

Eisenhorn does his telepathy thing, and Nissa relays her thanks. He also has some questions for the Guard Captain as more specifics to what they can and can't do. The Captain scratches his head a little at the other questions. "Hey, look, you Tide guys said you DIDN"T want to set up a new House, so how come you are asking all these House questions? The Tide isn't under any House and are politically neutral. The Tide, you yourselves and your property, which doesn't include any other area of Dirt City. You don't set laws, take bribes (i'm sorry, taxes), or build a power base. Set all the laws you want for Galafar's House. The Prince has the Knives police the non-House areas, but I'm sure they will stop that if you ask..."

For the question about what is stopping the Tide from allying with other Houses makes the Captain scratch his head more. "You SURE you aren't setting up a House? Maybe you wanna talk to your friends before asking these questions, ya know? Here's the big scoop for you. You try to set up like a House, and all six will unite to kill you dead, dead, dead. You really don't know what you are up against, do you?" The Captain shakes his head and goes away.

Toston feels it is time to consolidate and celebrate, and the gnome has a point. The Tide knows pretty definitively that Golden Eyes closed the Rakshasa's Gate in Dirt City, that they disrupted the alliance between the priests of Ga'al and the Rakshasa, and in the past 3 days have killed six more rakshasa!

It looks like it is time to consolidate and celebrate!

As the Captain walks away, Desdichado leans toward Eisenhorn and says "Let's not provoke the evil henchman, okay, E?" then winks goodnaturedly.

As the crowd moves away, and the Tide is left with themselves, Desdichado suddenly feels very tired from all the activity from the past few days.

"It's good to know we're making progress" he says, "let's enjoy our time for now and discuss our next steps in the morning."

In answer to questions, Sarge says, "I can Gentle Repose 'em to keep 'em for a while, but I can't do that until tomorrow 'cause I don't have any prepared right now.

"I don't mind speaking to 'em, but here's a thought. If the Houses are so keen on rooting out the Rakshasas themselves, maybe they can question the dead. I mean, if we do it, and tell the Houses what we learn, why would they believe us? I think it's better to let them do it themselves. I'll keep the corpses fresh, though, if that's what we want. Is that what we want?"

Toston says, "How much do we trust the houses? The Rakshasha threatened our friends and loved ones. I'm not sure I trust them to 100% clean up the loose ends. Can we split the difference and give them the tiger and the stag but keep 'Galafar' to question ourselves? That way they can learn what they need to hopefully and we can learn what we need to hopefully."

Toston says to Eisenhorne,"Those are all good questions. It sounds like some of the actions mentioned are not viable but apparently we can potentially tell the knives to keep out of the non-house areas. That might be the best we can do. Honestly if there are other non-house areas around here I think we sell Shale house and move our tenants. We would then have 2 pieces of property in the neutral zone."

"We could Speak with Dead on Galafar, and then depending what they tell us, invite the houses round and have everyone listen toTiger or Stag?"

Gaffer is wearied but Sarge has already healed most of his wounds, and after the last couple weeks he doesn't feel right sitting around. He moves up to the rooves of the coutyard walls to judge weather he could make a line of garden patches atop them, and maybe a pidgeon coup against the wall of the main building.

(Knowing the size of the courtyard and the size of the huge oak tree, Gaffer only says the below if the tree could fit inside the courtyard without blocking any of the doors.)

Back on the ground with the others, "How would you all feel with replacing the statue in the courtyard with the Oak Tree behind Shale House, if we are moving our friends here, it makes more sense to place it somewhere nearby?"

[OOC: The Liveoak spell says you create a command phrase, can anyone activate the Oak by saying the right words? Or only the spell caster?]

The Tide consider the current political situation, and conclude it is a step in the right direction.

Sarge casts Gentle Repose on the Rakshasa bodies. Their is some discussion on who should do the Speak with Dead spells; whether they should give some bodies to the various Houses, whether they could do it at a temple with everyone listening, or do it themselves and tell the Houses what they found. That decision, with the GP spell, can keep a day or two.

Silverleaf doesn’t stick around. With a pack and a quarterstaff, he shakes the dust of Dirt City from his shoes and walks towards the west...

Gaffer wants to move his oak tree from the back of Shale House to the courtyard of Galafar’s House; now renamed Tide House. It can easily fit after smashing the Ga’al statue.

More work is done on clearing Tide House, stacking bodies for later use, piling treasures, and checking out the house. As predicted, the place is larger than first fought over, with several stairs and passages blocked up by rubble and stone. In fact, the Tide could pretty much design their own two or even three story structure without altering the outside walls or roof...

And wealth the Tide have in plenty...

After the celebrations are done, Eisenhorn spends some time with the dead rakshasa examining them in detail and taking notes on their physiology and characteristics trying to note every detail of their behaviour from the fight they just had. Hoping that he might compile all of this knowledge into a useful book at some point.

He also examines the available space in their newfound HQ to try and figure out the best place to set up a comprehensive library.

Sharpe heads to the Temple of Wardd speaks to the clerics there about a getting breakfast delivered there so he can spend time with the vagrants each morning, he then head down under the temple and places Soul Soap in on of the holes for magical items.

He then considers what best to do with his new found wealth, he too may need a trip to the catacombs.
