The party quickly finishes the cytillipede. It cries out desperately as it dies, still scrabbling to defend the little cave until it’s final breath.
The cave behind the gate is relatively small and almost looks like a stable. There’s posts with things to tie down the centipede, little stalls, and various foods, especially stocks of the fungus. Strange, glowing eggs, tiny in comparison to the grown creatures, are gathered together in some sort of small incubation hole, only a food or so deep in the stone.

The eggs are remarkably similar to regular bug eggs, just much larger. Asimov finds a lot of stuff down here seemingly designed to tend to them, and it is likely they can only thrive here, under specific conditions and with the poisonous Cyttillish being infused into them. Likely they were once regular animals, but like the noble races turned wolves into dogs over centuries the Derro have made these insects into mounts and companions over the years, and with the death of all the caretakers and the parent bugs there is likely no hope for the eggs - they would not survive surface conditions.

The eggs are suffused with the poisonous fungus and will be very very poisonous to eat. The head of the cytillipedes is very distinctive and glowy. It would make a great trophy.
The party heads down the south tunnel. It’s surprisingly short, and ends in an empty cell. There are scratch marks on the walls and bars and scraps of fabric like what those zombified minors had on. This is likely where they were held before being brought out for the fight. A quick search finds no clues or things of value.

Zeoll again goes to scout and this time there’s dim lighting provided by fungus so he can see. He enters an expansive cavern is dimly lit by patches of glowing fungus here and there along the walls, floor, and ceiling. It appears to serve as some sort of laboratory sized for a small person. Contraptions of tubes, wires, glass bottles, and beakers—all of which bubble and steam with glowing chemicals and fluids—top low slab tables arrayed about the cavern. Three large cylindrical tanks contain glowing blue liquid, the northernmost of which holds a humanoid body that periodically twitches as electrical currents flash through the tank.
Bedraggled men and women in miners’ work clothes huddle together miserably within an iron cage held twenty-five feet above the ground by a thick iron chain attached to a pulley in the ceiling. From the pulley, the chain runs back down to a lifting-and-lowering mechanism bolted to the ground.

Clarification: There are 4 derro lab workers in the room examining various concoctions and muttering among themselves. They do not notice Zeoll or Elron.
Zeoll’s pretty sure this is an advanced alchemy lab. They seem to be testing various mixes of chemicals and plants with the fungus to use on people like the poor bloke in the jar. This is probably where those undead miners they fought earlier were made.

Mundhildur moves up quietly to be perhaps 20 feet from the entrance - so long as it is out of line of sight of the chamber, just ready for when it seems time to enter.

The derro are absorbed in their work and don’t notice the stealthy party sneaking into the room. The cage is suspended by a simple pulley, easily lowered, and locked with an intricate padlock. One of the derro has the key. You could probably steal it from him without difficulty, but there is no chance they won’t notice the lowering of the cage - it looks like it’ll make a good amount of noise.
The man in the jar looks unconscious or dead. Freeing him also seems simple - there’s a big button that says “release” on it.

Zeoll sneaks all the way back and around the corner. He returns the favor and casts Invisibility on Asimov, whispering that there is a lock to pick, and Asimov has to go sneak up to the cage. He then gives the invisible Asimov his rope so that he can see where Asimov is and target him with a spell. He also gasts Guidance on Asimov to help with the lock.
Then Zeoll moves forward so that he is as far from the derro as possible but still has line of sight to the jar and the cage. P-Q-14-15 looks about right. He can be up to 75 feet from the jar and still be in range.
Stealth 33
He gives Asimov time to get into position, watching the rope.
As quietly as possible, the taur casts Sculpt Sound. He targets the jar, the cage (plus pulley, chains, etc), the lock,, Asimov, Elron if he is near the cage, and then any prisoners he can see, up to 11 people and creatures with the one spell.
Zeoll sculpts the sounds that all these objects and creatures make when they move (not when they speak) into the sound of feathers falling onto a marble floor.
He hopes Asmov has luck with the lock.

The plan works like a charm, at least as far as freeing the prisoners. The cage is lowered and opened before the Derro notice anything. The prisoners are surprised but hope dawns on their faces as they look around and see the adventurers in the room.
Sadly a giant cage with injured and sick people trying to quietly leave it is just too visible to go unnoticed long no matter how silent the spell makes things. A derro turns to say something to his college, sees one of the prisoners out of the corner of his eye, and whips his head around staring in shock and reaching for a weapon.

All the derro die within seconds. The prisoners just stare at the swiftly eliminated derro in pure shock. They look more then a little intimidated as they look at the party, fear and hope waring in their eyes.

The prisoners were freed before the fight started and trying to sneak out with the party. As the fight begins they freeze up, but the few seconds it takes to win leaves them blinking in shock and, in some cases, crying, in relief. They’re a motley crew of humanoids in both guard and prisoner outfits all looking underfed and weak from the strange poisons of the enemy. Many can’t remember the details of the attack due to the poison, but a few resisted it enough or just got a lesser dosage and tell how the Derro dug up through the garden as everyone was going to bed. Their leader uses his spells to paralyze or control guards while the minions hit people with their poison so they forgot what they were doing mid combat. Once everyone was controlled, paralyzed, or unconscious they dragged them all here in this big cage through the tunnels. Presumably a group stayed behind and cleaned up all evidence of the attack.
None of them seem under any mental compulsions.

Elron asks if everyone is able to move out and back to the colony. But he keeps an eye on them. Some of these folks were guards and others prisoners, and he doesn't want fighting in the group. Getting everyone back safely might not be easy (or so he says).

Cytillish seems to be the main component, the glowing fungus, but there’s a standard set of other things you might find in an alchemy lab. Zeoll cares for the prisoners. Asimov tries to figure out if any of the prisoners are ones they were specifically asked to rescue. Elron worries about guards and prisoners fighting.
None of the prisoners are either the healer they originally came here for nor the guard captain, whom is the brother the party was asked to find. The terrible experiences they’ve suffered seems to have drained any bad feelings between guards and prisoners from them - they lean on each other and lend helping hands across the guard/prisoner divide, all stumbling forward towards freedom and the sun. There’s a great sigh of relief as they see the day and soon many of them are on the ground sleeping the sleep of the truly emotionally and physically drained.
One of the prisoners indicates the northwest cave, saying that everyone was kept there until being dragged to this cage to be prepped for experiments.

Cyrion will call over Asimov, "Is there anyway we could use the Cytillish to create antidotes so these people could regain their lost memories, or in case of future attacks?"

Mundhildur suggests they feed them more of it until they have no more problems Zeoll asks about what caves they have and have not explored. Elron gets a headcount. Asimov wonders what to do with the survivors/freed prisoners while they search the cave.
The Twins volunteer to guard the rescued prisoners while the rest of the party explores. Standard care vs poison, such as remove poison or heal checks, can help the survivors, though some lost memories can only be recovered with powerful magic the party doesn’t have.
The party has explored every cave but the north and northwest ones.
Heading back into the cave the party finds a 40 foot tunnel that leads towards a larger cave in the northwest. I’ll give the party a chance to decide approach before describing them enting the cave at the end.

As the party heads toward the cave, he also reads a scroll of Good Hope. Everybody gets a +2 morale bonus on saving throws, attack rolls, ability checks, skill checks, and weapon damage rolls for the next 11 minutes!

Mitch - The Twins combat Tunnel Map Thursday December 14th, 2023 8:30:42 AM Mundhildur asks the twins about separating. Zeoll buffs everyone. Elron starts a joke but forgets the punchline. Asimov is worried about remaining resources and needing the Twin’s help.
The party head into the cave. Several wide pits dominate this cavern. Long stalactites covered in glowing blue fungus hang from the ceiling high above. More of the blue fungus grows in patches on the walls, casting a blue glow throughout the cavern but doing little to illuminate it.
A wooden ladder lies on the ground near the closest pit. A rack near the ladder holds a collection of long poles tipped with cruel-looking hooks and blades.
Map in header is updated. Each pit is about 15 feet deep.
Asimov takes a look around trying to determine just what is in each pit.

Mundhildur walks over to one of the pits, and asks, "Anyone in this hole?" If there is no answer soon, she will spit down to see if she can hear the spit hitting anything below.
However, if there is someone down there. and not invisible, the giantess can see. If she sees someone, she will ask, "Want to come out? Or are you comfy where you are?"

The nearest pit just contains a variety of equipment. However all of the other pits contain prisoners. Diary and exhausted, they huggle together in small groups of 2-3 per pit with the glowing fungus coating the walls.
Asimov, while looking around, has the good fortune to look up. So he’s able to warn the party when he sees the warden, a massive, grey-skinned, and lanky behemoth crawling down from the ceiling towards the party with murder in it’s eyes.
