"...and just who might you be?" - DM Hugh | Asimov and Irony  d20=19 ; d4=4 ; d20-2=11 ; d4=3 ; d20-4=5 ; d4=1 ; d20+1=15 ; d4=3 ;
Tuesday October 18th, 2022 12:21:23 AM

Asimov says, "Alas there is still not much I can do against poison."

=========================

(OOC: so she failed her save when she took the spur and I forgot to add poison damage on that turn so she took 1d4 = 4, she made her save the next round but the poison needs 2 saves. she failed her save the next 2 rounds and was down to 2 con. even with the antitoxin she still failed the most recent save so she has 0 con)

Mundhi administers Kyria but all she can do is give her some antitoxin though it might be too little to late

The Twins play crowd control

Elron appeals to the crowd

Zeoll and Asimov lament there isn't much they can do for her.

Kyria has fallen to the ground in the midst of this desolate place and the winter wind starts to feel like it is picking up. As her life leaves her she asks, "Is...is everyone okay?"

She goes on to say, "I just wanted friends to play with me."

Nin Gikuga runs up and gradles her tiny body

Kyria says to Nin, "Don't worry. Dreams live on...somehow. Keep believing in the dream, don't warp or change it. It wasn't your spell that made me monstrous momma but that nobody believed in my dream. Will you sing that song you used to sing when I was younger?"

Nin obliges as Kyria dies.

Kyria's body shimmers out of existence her mortal body long gone. The fairies fly around the scene, changing into the other youths who gave their lives to be with her and the wind picks up dangerously.

Your vision starts to fade though as you do the area changes to become desolate without a garden but there is now a single sapling growing in the center of it...

AND just like that your vision is restored. Only instead of being in that desolate field you are in an inn. The bard stops playing suddenly as you appear.

Behind you sits a tapestry showing the desolate garden with the sapling growing in it.

A burly man with a red handlebar mustache walks out from behind the bar and says, "I suppose ye be adventurers given the unorthodox method of entry to my establishment?"

Suddenly other things start to flow out of the tapestry

a +2 full plate, +1 flaming greatsword, amulet of natural armor+2, 3 cloaks of resistance +1, a headband of inspired wisdom+2, a potion of cure light wounds and 44,200 gp worth of coins and gems.

As the innkeep sees the wealth flow from the tapestry his demeanor perks up and says, "Not just any adventurers who ruined my tapestry of a demon and replaced it with one of a tree in a garden but wealthy adventurers, pull up a seat by the fire and let me get you something to eat and drink. My name is Cyrus by the way and just who might you be?"

(OOC: everyone please add enough xp to put yourselves at 8 level and add 2 hero points. 1 for leveling and one for heroics during this module)

The Twins grimace at the innkeeper. "Bloody Fairies." "Were are we and what year is it?"

Sitting outside of the tapestry, Elron's confused. This doesn't look like the tapestry he went through last time. All in all, it's disorienting enough for him to accept that drink.

Zeoll (AC21, HP46of55) | Bill the Camel (AC21, HP33) | Cayzle

Zeoll looks at the tapestry. "Werre we in a tapestrry within a Tapestrry? You don't look like Happy." That last comment is made to Mr. Stashe.

"The arrmorr is nice, but too heavy and too metal forr me. I used to use a grreatsword in my youngerr days, but no morre. I have an Amulet of Naturral Arrmorr +1 that I would trrade forr the upgrrade. I have a betterr cloak."

"...that is what I get for buying decorations from mysterious old men" - DM Hugh | Asimov and Irony
Wednesday October 19th, 2022 1:43:40 AM

Asimov says, "Perhaps that storm we found ourselves in was so dire that the only way to survive it was to find another tapestry for shelter and that is what we did. Then when we freed Kyria of her curse by slaying the demon and allowing her to be reborn as a sapling that ended whatever it was that was protecting us there and we were shunted to the exit of the tapestry?"

==========================

The Twins blame the fairies and ask where are we and what year is it

Elron is a little disoriented by emerging from the tapestry as it doesn't look like the tapestry he entered last time so he'll accept that drink.

Zeoll asks if they were in a tapestry within a tapestry and that Cyrus doesn't look like Happy.

Asimov theorizes as to why they were where they were if they were indeed a tapestry within a tapestry.

Cyrus affirms that it is the same year you expect it to be and that you are at an Inn called the White Stag located on the Marquis Horatio Lockwood's High Road.

He then goes behind the bar and pulls Elron a tankard of ale then plops it in front of the bird-man.

To Zeoll he says, "I'm not happy. That tapestry cost me a pretty penny. It was my favorite decoration to trot out round All Hallow's Eve because that demon was something fierce. Now it's a sapling in a wintry desolated field. I'll have to switch it to my new year's rotation. I guess that is what I get for buying decorations from mysterious old men. I didn't think it was one of those tapestries when I bought it and the guy selling it said nothing of the sort. Still though, you live, you learn, you cater to some very wealthy new clients. Caveat Emptor eh?"

To Asimov he says, "I don't really know what you are talking about. Perhaps that storm addled you?"

He clears his throat and says, "I take it you will be needing rooms and you'd like hot baths drawn? Also can I get any of the rest of you something to eat or drink?"

The Twins had no intention of destroying this random guys nice tapestry. They ask out much it was and refund him 75% since he can still get some use of it.

"All Hallow's Eve, eh? Can't think of a better time to be cartin' a cursed item around. That demon was real! Still don't know how we got stuck in there." Elron gives the bartender a long look, trying to figure out if he somehow put them in the tapestry.

"The Twins herre have a good idea. We will make this rright with you, sirr."

Then he turns to the crying giant. "Don't be sad, since it wasn't even rreal afterr all."

"He wanted 450 gold pieces for it and I hagled him down to 380." - DM Hugh | Asimov and Irony
Thursday October 20th, 2022 1:07:34 AM

Asimov says, "I'll take some mead and a meal. I'll also kick in toward the tapestry reimbursement fund considering I think we can afford it based on all the coinage we made from that trip. As for rooms and baths, what do the rest of you think? It probably couldn't hurt right since are on the High Road back to the Marquis we need to be presentable to our patron no?"

To Mundhi and Zeoll he says, "Technically Kyria was already dead when we got there and her existence and the town was somewhat of a cursed dream, hence the not being real part. By defeating the demon we broke the curse and allowed the dream to end, though I'd wager some part of Kyria lives on in that sapling."

=================================

The twins had no intention of destroying the tapestry and they want to refund him 75% of its cost

Elron says All Hallow's Eve is an appropriate time to be cartin' around a cursed item and eye balls the inn keep as if he had something to do with them being in there.

Mundhi looks around bewildered and begins to weep.

Zeoll agrees with the idea of making things right regarding the tapestry and tells Mundhi not to cry because it wasn't real.

Asimov orders some food and drink, suggests the party consider the room and baths and then speculates further on the nature of the tapestry arguing they were sort of in a cursed dream until they defeated the demon and that Kyria lives on in that sapling.

Cyrus says, "Well if you'll study the weaving of the tapestry you'll notice it has some gold and silver threads along the border. Also the mysterious old man who sold it to me says the artist was of some renown. He wanted 450 gold pieces for it and I hagled him down to 380."

Well there's plenty of gold on the floor over there so the Twins scoop up about 300 and give it to the man. They are interest in the +2 plate, but apparently have a ring of protection +3 from a previous adventure that already makes them worth double normal WBL soooo maybe not.

"Not real, Zeoll, because it's in a tapestry? Is little Dani also not real? Master Lockridge, Gideon, the zappy blue glow in that castle? -- Well, okay, Lockridge is a voice in a box, he might not be real." Elron starts to pick up the treasure before this Cyrus fellow starts getting ideas about whose tapestry it fell out of. "Where'd you say our rooms will be?"

"All the Wold's a stage, and all the taurrs and two-legs merrely playerrs." - DM Hugh | Asimov and Irony
Friday October 21st, 2022 12:24:00 AM

Asimov goes to help Elron scoop up the treasure, ordering Irony to help out as well.

Asimov says, "Did we make things better for the town or worse? I'd argue we made things better considering we broke a curse."

(OOC: I literally just followed the module that was given to me as it was written)

==========================================

The twins scoops some gold off the floor and gives it to Cyrus. He's also interested in the plate+2 but he has a rather expensive ring+3

Elron makes argument for the events in the tapestry being real and then starts picking up the treasure lest Cyrus get ideas. He then asks where their rooms will be.

Zeoll gets philosophical

Asimov argues they made things better by ending the curse and helps Elron scoop up treasure with Irony helping.

Cyrus says, "Your rooms are upstairs. They are the finest rooms I got and as I said I can have hot baths drawn and waiting."

Don't you agree?" Elron directs this last question to Cyrus before making his way to a room. Who knew that Zeoll comforting Mundhi could lead to egg-head type thinking. Elron prefers to think that they released Kyria from a curse and wherever she is now at least it's not being imprisoned by a demon.

Elron calls back as he's going, "Hey, Cyrus, is Lowestoft anywhere in these parts?"

"Hey, Cyrus, is Lowestoft anywhere in these parts?" - DM Hugh | Asimov and Irony
Monday October 24th, 2022 12:51:32 AM

Asimov moves the loot upstairs with Irony's help. Gives Cyrus 10 gold coins downpayment for the food, drink, rooms and bath, figuring the bill will be higher in the morning, then goes to take a bath himself before bed.

=====================

Mundhi shrinks to her smaller 7 foot size heads upstairs to bathe and then bed.

Elron gives an observation about reality and asks Cyrus if Lowestoft is anywhere near these parts.

Zeoll asks if Cyrus has a bathtub big enough for a Liontaur

The Twins are pretty sure they just slept but whatever and resolve to go to bed.

Asimov makes sure the loot that he gathered up previously with Elron is safely stowed upstairs getting Irony to help before taking a bed and a bath himself.

Cyrus says to Elron, "Well yes. The Marquis's high road does go to Lowestoft. It is a few days journey from here."

Cyrus says to Zeoll, "Liontaur, Minotaur, or even Centaur my tubs can fit, of course for Centaurs I typically use ground floor rooms."

Most of the party has taken abed. Do Elron or Zeoll want to do anything else before doing so themselves? (If so tell me and I'll adjudicate in the next post)

The party pretty much bathes (separately of course) and rests and the next morning when they come downstairs Cyrus greets them with a buffet style breakfast. Pancakes, Waffles, sausages, bacon, coffee, juice, milk, tea, pastries, fruit, butters, jams, syrups, muffins, eggs, biscuits, toast and hash browns are all piled high on various serving apparati.

"Slept well?" Cyrus inquires, "I decided that for extra special guests such as yourselves an extra mile is needed so I had the cook whip up a little breakfast buffet."

The Twins are grateful for the meal and eat heartily as things had been slim on the wintry road and village.

Elron had splashed around in one of the washtubs before headed to bed, then in the morning tucked into breakfast and after he ate you wouldn't know he was clean.

Zeoll enjoys extra servings of bacon and eggs and compliments Cyrus on the food.

Asimov also digs into breakfast feast provided.

Cyrus says to the party, "Would you be wanting anything else."

(OOC: A few things. 1) who is going to run Kathy's module. I volunteered however that was only if no one else would do it and both Mitch and Steve said they were up for running Kathy's module so I'm more than happy to pass the reigns. 2) I purposely gave us treasure so that if the magic items were sold we'd be at WBL assuming everyone started at WBL. It sounds like Mitch is somehow over WBL so I think we need to figure out what treasure we are keeping and what we were selling and then we might need to have a "tax day" to put ourselves at the right WBL unless we don't care we start a little over where we should be?)

Mundhildur dreamed of fairies and demons and clerics and swimming through caves and fighting with her friends against unreasonable people.

But she wakes up clean. And hungry. And digs with pleasure into the amazing breakfast. "Can we stay here a few days?" she asks - not terribly seriously, yet wistfully. When Cyrus asked if they want anything else, she asks, "Where are we, now? Are we in a town, a village?"

Asimov says, "We can stay here for a while I suppose."

========================================

Mundhi dreams of fairies and demons and swimming through caves and fighting with her friends against unreasonable people. When she wakes up she's clean and hungry and asks Cyrus where they are population wise as well if they can stay longer.

The Twins don't mind staying

Zeoll is content to rest and relax for a while. He suggests maybe they spend their time training up.

Asimov supposes they could stay a bit

Cyrus says to everyone, "Of course. Stay as long as you like. I'll just add on to your tab. I know you are good for it."

He then starts answering questions.

To Mundhi he says, "More of an outpost really. The Marquis's high road has been subject to bandit and monster attacks of late so the inn kind of used to be its own waypoint upon the road but Lord Gideon was concerned about the inn's safety and that of travelers on the road that he built a small garrison, a watchtower nearby and stockade walls around us."

Zeoll says he's learning to charm a monster.

Asimov asks Zeoll if he is wanting to try to join one of the garrison's patrols to find a monster

Asimov says to Zeoll, "Well Cyrus did say he can manage it so let's ask him to set it up and we will join a patrol and the first monster we come across you can try to charm."

Asimov says to The Twins, "I'm a tinkerer not a fighter so no thanks, but you lot can spar if you want."

=============================================

The Twins suggest everyone spar to kill time

Elron suggests they divide up the loot

Zeoll asks Elron to tally up the treasure and agrees that Asimov's monter hunt idea is a fine idea

Asimov agrees about the monster hunt and the treasure but isn't too keen on fighting the rest of the party.

In response to the inquiries Cyrus says, "I'll be right back."

He returns with 2 men both wearing scale mail.

He says, "This is guard captain Peter Stark and his trainee and newest recruit Michael Drake. If you are still willing and interested to go on patrol, the captain will deputize you and your group and Peter and Michael can all head out together to keep the road safe. There are even rumors floating around of some type of fanged marsupial monsters giving travelers trouble on a forested section of the high road nearby."

Elron totally ignores the idea that he tally up a blortload of treasure like some accountant. He happily divides the assorted coins and gems (less what's already gone to the local economy) into six bags of pretty close to the same weight for everyone. That makes everything about even. Probably.

=====
The total was: (1x) +2 full plate, (1x) +1 flaming greatsword, amulet of natural armor +2, (3x) cloaks of resistance +1, (1x) headband of inspired wisdom +2, (1x) potion of cure light wounds and 44,200 gp worth of coins and gems.

Asimov also says, "Can you give us a moment to make preparations my good men?" to the 2 garrisoned soldiers.

Zeoll suggests they should fight against the vampire roos though they can't be charmed if they are undead

Elron puts the loot in sacks he distributes to everyone and is on board with going to hunt the monter

Azimov suggests the errant marsupials could be something called a Su instead of vampires and if they are then magical beasts are very charmable. He then asks for a moment.

The two guards look at the adventurers and say, "Sure take your time."

The guard captain quickly deputizes you, "Repeat after me; I [state your name], promise to uphold the law, do no injustice to another, and defend the weak and innocent. May truth and honor always guide me so that I may find the courage to truly live and take a stand for what is right even if no one else is willing to. So help me Gods."

He then says, "Right then. If you all will follow me."

He then exits the inn and leads to one of the gates of the pallisade fortification. The walls form a sort of square around the inn and garrison with one watchtower to the north and one watchtower to the south. There is a well in the middle and gates in the pallisade wall construction to the East and West.

He takes you out the exit to the West. The Marquis's high road is very well maintained on the stretch of road you are on. You walk about an hour on it and the plains of where you started start to give way to a more wooded area. The woods gradually become thicker and thicker as you advance.

The captain says, "The report of the attacks started in this area just up ahead. Everyone be on your guard. From what we've heard these things can confuse people, make them bleed, grapple, rake, pounce, climb, do some kind of psychic attack, and disarm or trip folks."

Mitch - The Twins HP: 84/84 AC 29/15/27

The Twins have no perception bonus so can't make that roll. They advance cautiously.

SteveM - Elron | AC 23 (21 if raging), HP 51/64, DR 2/--  d20=17 ;

Elron doesn't notice anything out of the ordinary.

But he is on his guard now.

Zeoll says the oath without reservation. He thinks about the Oathbound, folk in tales devoted to Ffloy who really know how to speak a binding oath. But the bard is not so rude as to correct the guard captain's form.

The liontaur is ever alert, and rolls a 30 with a nat 18! Oh, darn it, still not close enough to that DC!! On a subconscious level, the old taur intuits that SOMEBODY rolled a 19 on their stealth check, but in his waking mind, the liontaur blithely goes about the stroll, oblivious.

(OOC: leveled Asimov and Irony and rolled a 3 on a d6 for Asimov and a 2 on a d10 for Irony; also Irony flies now! yes it flies now!)

(Perception: 22 - Asimov; Perception: 7 - Irony)

Asimov and Irony also don't notice anything.

====================================

The 2 guardsmen also fail to notice anything (24 and 13 respectively)

Suddenly the murder marsupial makes it's presence known and pounces from the tree branch onto Irony?!?

The guard captain cries "Lookout!!!" in reaction as the creature dives from the cover of the trees

Since it pounces it attacks with a bite (35 vs AC - hit; 2 claws 20 vs AC - miss; 30 vs AC - hit and a rake of 2 claws 32 vs AC - hit and 27 vs AC - hit)

Irony takes 5 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 11 damage and the Su has grab so it rolls a 21 and poor Irony is grappled

What do you do now?

[The DC is high enough that none in the party, at this level, can make the perception roll. Not that it would make any difference for Mundhi, who rolled a 1]

As they travel along, the Jotunar is distracted by a pebble in her shoe. She stops, leans against a nearby tree, and removes the footwear, shakes out the pebble, and puts it back on. Yet while she is kneeling to retie it, there is the noise. She looks toward the critter attacking Irony. She stands upright and hurls a rock at it, hitting AC 24 for 18 hp damage. She does not have time to throw a second rock.

Elron moves and whaps. Unless by some strange chance he can whap the creature without moving. After whapping the creature, he looks to see what it is.

Elron hits AC 17 for 2 points of damage. . . Almost more embarrassed if it hits than if it's a whiff.

Zeoll sighs, seeing as his friends' attacks make it nearly impossible to charm these things.

The liontaur settles for casting Calm Emotions to stop the thing from attacking. If it works, he shouts, "Tell Irrony to stand down! No one attack it!"

Save DC to affect the creature: DC20.

(OOC: my alternate title for this post is the best laid plans of Liontaurs and Bird-men...)

Asimov heeds Zeoll's advice since this was Zeoll's hunt to try to charm a monster he says to Irony, "Stand down!"

Irony does not do anything this round.

Irony - 11 / 40 damage

===================================

Mundhi fires off a giant pebble at the Su hitting 8 damage (OOC: that rock was not magic correct?)

The twins fire off 3 arrows but all 3 miss the creature, none hit Irony either, considering they were firing into a grapple

Elron moves and attempts to Whap the creature only to whiff

Zeoll casts Calm Emotions hitting an area that the Su, Irony and Elron are all in. Irony is a construct and as such is immune to mind affecting. Elron has to roll the save per Zeoll. The Su rolls a 25 and is not calmed.

The Su looks at Zeoll with a hateful glare and swiftly does something (know (arcana) DC 18) : Highlight to display spoiler: { Id Insinuation II }

Zeoll must make a DC 16 will save or be confused, if you fail the save and become confused you must roll twice on the first round to determine the state of your confusion and the Su picks which roll to use, subsequent rounds resolve normally. The Su prefers the following conditions: Attack nearest creature (in this case that would be the Twins) over deal 1d8 + Str damage to self using item in hand over do nothing but babble incoherrently over acting normally.

The Su decides it doesn't like the fact that the metal creature it grappled does not bleed and decides to leap from Irony to Mundhi pouncing the giantess.

It gets a bite - miss vs 18; 2 claws - hit vs AC 22 and threat of critical vs 36 for 36 to confirm as well as 2 rakes - 17 vs AC - miss and 30 vs AC hit.

Mundhi takes 8 + 10 (from the crit) + 10 from the rake for 28 damage and the Su gets a grapple attempt from its claw (37 vs CMD) so Mundhi is now grappled.

The 2 guards ask, "Do we risk shooting your friend by firing our ranged weapons into a grapple? How can we help you the most."

Su - 8 damage unless the rock was magic in which case 18

The rock (not pebble) Mundhildur had thrown is a non-magical fist-sized stone - if the fist belongs to a Jotun. Smaller than a bowling ball, a bit larger than a softball. She carries a supply in the bag (somewhat like a large version of a handy haversack/bag of holding - it's a Jotun thing) she carries, slung cross-shoulder over a hip.

"Risk away!" Mundhildur replies to the guards.

Meanwhile, she slams her foe twice, but misses on her third attempt: AC 32 for 11 (-10?), AC 33 for 13 (-10?). AC 14 for 15 (-10?) likely has no effect. "This one feels resilient."

Elron gets angry -- probably not the result Zeoll expected when casting his spell -- and attacks again with a flurry of blows. (Considering that the Twins, Mundhildur, and Irony are also on the creature, a flanking bonus is included in the to-hit roll.)

First attack hits AC 33 for 2+6+2 = 10 points damage
Second attack hits AC 19 for maybe 4+6+2 = 12 points damage
The spirit whisps surrounding Elron hit AC 8 for whiff

Asimov fires off a wrist rocket at the Su hitting for 13 magic force damage.

Irony slams into the Su but misses (20 vs AC - miss)

=========================

Mundhi slams into the creature and hits but does nominal damge (4 damage from the slams that hit)

The Twins switch to melee and critically hit.

Elron gets angry and attacks with flurry of blows hitting once. (OOC: is it magic?)

Zeoll inspires courage and Bill charges the beast missing

Asimov fires off a wrist rocket while Irony misses with a slam

The guard captain fires a salvo of arrows at the creature and hits once for 12 damage

The greenhorn fires a single arrow that hits but fails to do enough damage

The Su glares at Zeoll again, uses a swift action and does something defensively 22 vs 21 so no AOO (Know[arcana]: DC 18 Highlight to display spoiler: { Mind Thrust III } and Zeoll takes 50 damage DC 16 Will save for half as his mind is overloaded with psychic information

It then decides that The Twins are the biggest threat and pounce from Mundhi onto the Twins

It attacks the Twins with a bite 33 vs AC - hit; 2 claws - 34 vs AC - hit and 36 vs AC hit with crit threat for 29 to confirm and a rake of 2 claws 35 vs AC - hit, 36 vs AC - threat of crit with 27 to confirm so no crit

The twins take 11 + 4 bleed damage from the bite + 5 from the first claw + 14 from the critical striking second claw + 7 from the first raking claw and 10 from the second raking claw for 47 damage + 4 bleed damage additionally the Su has improve grab on each claw (22 and 24 = no grapple) but the Su fails to grapple the Twins

Su - AC 21; DR 10 / magic; can't be flanked due to all-around vision: 64 - 74 damage

As the su moved (I think) more than 5 feet, Mundhi takes an attack of opportunity with her +1 longspear : AC 30, 10 hp damage (no DR, as it is magic). Then, for her normal attacks, she hits AC 31, 9 hp damage, and AC 20, 11 hp damage. But the su has AC 21, so that's only 19 hp total damage this round. Wait! Zeoll was even more inspiring - so all 3 hit (31, 32, 21), for (11, 10, 12) 33 hp damage.

[Why does it have all-round vision? Does it have eyes on its back?]

Zeoll does not know what this attack is (Know check 10), but he does not need a name! What he knows is that it HURTS!

Will save 30, nat 20. But he still takes 25 damage!

The liontaur keep singing to inspire everybody. NOTE this is +2, not +1!!

Bill bites again, missing!

Zeoll uses a full round action to call a fey ally. Per his special Greensinger archetype, he rolls a Perform check ... 27 means that up to a 6 HD fey can appear. Zeoll seeks a satyr, but we'll see what appears.

OOC: Finally leveling Zeoll to 8th. +1 Wis and Druid 4 means his Will save is +12, not +10 as I HAVE ROLLED SO FAR THIS FIGHT! And some hit points ... roll of 6 = +9 hit points, just in time! Also, Bill gets a hit die and a feat! He rolls an 8! And takes Toughness. That boosts his hit points!

Elron hits AC 32 and 18, the spirit whisps hit AC 15. Elron's one successful attack does 4+2+2+2 = 10 points of (magical) damage.

The captain and recruit put their bows away and says, "This section of road should be a little bit quieter thanks to you. Would you like the beast's head for a trophy? " They ask
