The Petals share an extended meal and a good time with loved ones. They wonder if the visitors are real or just conjured from their memories, but they certainly seem real. They feel real and smell real. Heck, even Mak’s curmudgeonly veneer seems to soften a bit in this place.
As the evening winds down, the Petals get up and move about, meeting their friends and loved ones. Some even learn a secret bit about their fellow Petals from those conjured here. Kiwina is able to spend some quiet time alone with Kinipeli.
Finally, the rotund man with the holly crown speaks.
”Friends, I hope you are refreshed by this respite. Rest here a bit - you’ve all earned it and I sense there is much ahead for you.”
He waves his hand. Perhaps it’s the food and drink. Perhaps it's the relaxation from having loved ones close. Perhaps the recent fights you’ve faced are catching up with you. But you all begin to feel a bit drowsy as you sit or lay down where you are next to those you care about.

You wake to the musty smell of stone. You are in a tunnel about 30’ wide. Things seem a bit hazy as you recall being in this place. Was it moments ago, or a lifetime away? With some dismay, you see your loved ones and that big fat guy are nowhere to be seen. But still, you feel refreshed and rested.
Before you is a dead kobold, and two live ones cower in fear having tossed down their weapons.

Elyas feels quite refreshed, and ready to continue. His spells come back to mind readily after a good rest, but he feels like he could do more if he had some time. Seeing the others stop to meditate he also spends some time getting ready.

In addition to the spells, Elyas has started to recall old lessons he took in his training days. Hearing the draconic langugae spoken has brought those memories back to the forefront, and Elyas feels that he could understand the kobolds a lot better after having the time to reflect and refresh...

Besides realizing that you have regained spells, you also notice that your wounds have closed, and you have regained all HP. The kobolds remain seated awaiting instruction. It is clear that they are completely complainant and don't desire any further conflict.
The time passes and our praying heroes gain their new spells. Time passes without incident, and you are pretty sure that if Falco decided to spend some time with his god, he should be fine.
In the meantime the kobolds are still awaiting instruction.
Here is the last DM post prior to the Saint Nick encounter.
Mak suggest letting the captives go. He suggests keeping their gear as payment for their lives.
Wil asks what they should do with the kobolds, claiming it would be dishonorable to kill them. He gives some healing to Ayotnom.
Tsak is on high alert as the situation looks dire. The kobolds are telling the same story, and he hears the truth in their words, but he wonders if it is the whole truth. He asks if anyone has a plan.
Ayotnom wonders if Grovas can turn kids into kobolds or wyvarans. Ultimately he just wonders what happened to the kids.
Kiwina cliams they can ask Grovas where the children are, when they are done with the kobolds. He suggests asking about the distance to the lair, if the dragon is here, and what buffs are desireable.
Rolth likes Mak's idea, and Kiwina's line of questioning. He is ready to go and than buff, at the last minute.
Elyas too wants know how much farther, and says the kobolds could be lying about being the last line of defense. He mentions that some dragons can polymorph and hopes that Grovas didn't disguise himself as a kobold and slip away. Of course Grovas has proven himself to have a massive ego, so he doubts it.
Falco allows his friends to do the talking, as he wonders how good the dragon's ears are.

Kiwina agrees it is time to deal with the dragon, and rescue the children. He looks ahead into the pitch black. With his low light vision, he can see farther than most, but his vision isn't good enough to give him any further insight.
Rolth continues to prepare himself for the task at hand.
Ayotonom reminds Kiwana that the dragon may have eaten the kids, or somehow changed them into kobolds or wyvarans.
Our intrepid heroes are ready to set out. Is there any more prep and or planning they wish to make? The kobolds are waiting patiently to receive their sentence. it is hard to tell for sure, just by looking at their scaly faces, but they seem to be showing signs of fear. Perhaps it's due to the fact that they have been defeated, captured, and their captures speak a language they don't understand. That coupled with the long deliberation, as well as the seemingly odd behavior of their captures. Pausing everything to stop and pray, and/or prepare spells would seem a bit odd, especially since they have no idea that time stood still , and that their captures were gone for a bit.

I agree with Mak, I don't think we want these guys running in ahead of us. do we just let them go? We don't have a great way to hold them here, or anything we would do with them when we come back through. We are wasting time here, though, we need to move forward and pick a fight with a dragon....
To prepare for any more ambushes, Elyas casts See Invisibility on himself, then light on his dagger and moves up with Kiwina to see what lies ahead.

Rolth asks the Petals who can speak Draconic to tell the kobolds that they can go, if they never again return to this place, serve Grovas, nor take up arms against us or the inhabitants of the Taur Isles. With that, he is done and ready to move on, and suggests keeping spread out more than usual, and avoid lining up too, given that our foe has multiple breath weapons to choose from. He checks whether the previous protection from energy spell is still in place, and if not, requests that perhaps now would be a good time for our casters to renew our protections. He then takes his place near the front of the party and heads down the tunnel with his fellows.

As long as someone is watching the kobolds Tsak takes an hour out to prepare his few spells and his mind for the battle he expects is coming.
As the party prepares to head out he turns to Rolth and Kiwina Where do you want me lads, scouting out front or bringing up the rear? The ranger still feels the sting of the last attack that got past him, even though they used invisibility, and is determined it won't happen again.

With the kobolds on their way Falco relaxes some. He considers the dragon but realizes the best he can do is be responsive to the situation.

Falco continues his watch duties, as he tries to mentally prepare for the challange ahead.
Elyas agrees with Mak and suggests letting the captives go, as they have no way of holding them. He reminds everyone that they are wasting time, as he casts see invisibility on himself, and light on his dagger, than heads forward to stand by Kiwina.
Wil cracks a joke, and then suggests leaving them to their own devices. He than shares his stratagy for the fight ahead.
DM Mark asks to speak with Steve. (Sorry, I couldn't help myself)
Rolth asks a Draconic speaker to translate his ultimatums, and than as his protection spells are gone, he asks for a renewal. He than takes the lead.
Ayotnom asks as a translator, than asks to make sure Wil is joking.
Tsak prpares spells and than asks where the others would prefer him.
Kiwina shares his plans.
Wil verifies that he is indeed joking, than asks what the other may be seeing.
Mak collects the kobold's gear than sends them on their way.
Falco relaxes when the kobolds leave but now they have a dragon to deal with.

With the added light at the head of the party, those with low-light vision or darkvision can see that about 50 feet ahead the tunnel takes a right hand turn, making seeing what is beyond impossible.

Not having darkvision, only lowlight, at the moment, he will move up not-so-quietly to support whoever wants to take a peek around the corner, staying just around the corner behind the scout. Wil calls out the the departing kobolds, asking how they may get a hold of them if they wished to hire them. In response, a business card comes flying out of the darkness, like a shuriken, hitting him in the chest, with a barely audible thud, as it bounces harmlessly off his armor. Picking up the card it reads, "Rogues for hire. No job too big, no job too small, as long as the coin is good." It than lists an address in Dragon Bay. Wil offers some protection magic.
Mak mentions that protection magic would be nice but Rolth should have first dibs.He wishes he knew which he knew for certain if the dragon was evil, as his sword is good verses evil.
Rolth happily accepts WIl's offer, and appreciates Mak's thoughtfulness. He joins anyone who wishes to look around the corner.
Kiwina claims to have multiple protection spells, but doesn't how best to distribute them.
Ayotnom also has some protection magic available, but questions which energy type to use, since Grovas has several options.
Falco offers some protection magic as well, and wishes they had gotten some contact information from the kobolds. Just as he mentioned that, the business card hits Wil.
Elyas cast some protection magic on himself and suggest that everyone simply pick an energy type. He than offers yet another casting of protection.

To the others, he says, "Let me see what talking can accomplish. Maybe buffs now and other spells later, so we can start any fight pumped up if I fail." He then casts Eagle's Splendor on himself and calls out,
"Grovas-Haltavar, why do you seek to sadden your sister? Do you hate her so much? Show some care for the one who clearly cares for you. For if you fight us, you will make her disappointed and sad. On the one hand, you may be victorious and eat us, although I must warn you that fear is not something that the Eight Petaled Rose are wont to feel for more than a passing moment, our hearts steeled by Domi and the Warper-Sar. If you defeat us nonetheless, you perceive that you will sadden the heart of your wise sister, Ledra, who has counseled a different path. And if on the other hand we should prevail and vanquish you, it is clear that your sister holds you close to her heart and would be deeply saddened. I can understand a monster that wants to eat its prey, but what kind of monster would you have to prove be to do such a terrible things to one's own loving sister? Let us find another path that fills whatever hole in your heart would make you even consider such a path. What say you, will you parley?"

Wil casts energy protection on Rolth, and shield of faith on Mak. He would like to cast protection on himself, but want's to make sure all the fighters get some first. He suggests not rushing in.
Ayonom cast protection form fire on himself and offers up some more. If no one takes his offer, he will cast more protection on himself.
Rolth praises Mak for being right about Haltavar, than tries to get chatty with Grovas, after casting eagle's splendor on himself..
Kiwina casts some protection and buff spells on himself, and casts protection on Mak.
Tsak casts protection magic on himself, and preps himself for battle. He isn't thrilled about having to face two dragons.
Mak lets Rolth know that he would have been happy to be wrong. He points out that the dragon's can obviously shape change.
Falco hopes they don't have to kill the dragons, as he feels they are majestic creatures. He casts shield of faith on himself, and readies his bow.
Elyas casts protection on Rolth as well, Than mentions that everyone should stay close together, for the moment, as he will cast Haste when things go sideways.

Ledra speaks up, "You are my brother Grovas, and even though I think you a fool, I will stand by your side, however, you should listen to that one, he speaks true. I have no desire to kill sentient beings, and I refuse to consume them, but I will fight by your side if you won't return to reality. Our father was bested twice by a band of adventures, and completely changed his ways out of fear for his life. He spoke to us from the day we hatched that we should stay away from the very path you are running head long towards, and he instilled in us the fear, he shares, of adventures. Why have you forsaken the teachings of your youth? There is still time, you can still make amends for your actions These Eight Petaled Rose chaps seem like reasonable fellows, I'm sure they can come up with a way to end this without bloodshed."
Grovas retorts, "Sister you still fail to understand that it is bloodshed that I crave!"
The two dragons continue to talk, though Ledra's words seem to be falling on deaf ears. Rolth's words also seem to have little affect on Grovas. When the two dragons talk it sounds like the bickering of siblings, and your pretty sure the back and forth will go on for some time, allowing for further prep time. However, you are also pretty sure that they will drop everything , if and when danger befalls them.

I would be loathe to strike her down, for she seems quite a lovely wyrm, but you drag her along to a mutual doom if you should attack us. And all for naught! As Wil, Tsak, Rolth, and Mak enter the chamber, they see that the room is roughly 100ft X 100ft with a 40ft ceiling. they see 2 almost identical huge dragons. Even though they are very similar in appearance, there are slight differences, and you can see that one is clearly the one that carried Haltavar away, and the other one opens his mouth and says, in Grovas's voice "Your not fooling anyone half-orc, we see you! So you claim you're ready for fire Mak, how about this!" With that, Grovas opens his mouth and a long stream of acid fires out of his mouth heading straight for Mak. Mak takes 47 damage. (DC 22 reflex save for half)
Ledra stares ahead not sure what to do. You easily surmise that Ledra was trying to get Grovas away from Frog Hollow, so she could try to talk some sense to him. With that failure, she now seems a bit shocked to find herself in combat. Everyone must all make a DC 19 will save or be shaken for 16 rounds, as Grovas activates his frightful presence aura.

Mak leapt into action inspired by Rolth and urged to great speed by Elyas as he ducked a shoulder to avoid most the acid as it washed over and down his arm. He charged across the distance to Grovas while the acid burned him as he moved with his rapier out and ready. With his bow tucked behind him in his off hand Mak dashed up to the evil dragon.
Mak's black whip thin blade lashed out and swiped across Grovas' flank as it left a bloody line in the dragon's flesh.
"You are fat and slow, Greengas." Mak taunted the dragon.

Rolth merely grins widely when the wave of fear washes over the party. Grovas talks a big game, but Rolth is a confident Officer of the WLA--with dreams of being a Champion. He will not be deterred by the likes of this dragonlet. (WILL Save = 33, success)
He calls out to Ledra, "Fair Ledra, help us subdue Grovas and secure acceptable terms of surrender from him, and he may yet live. Otherwise, his mad bloodlust will force us to destroy him. You are wise, surely you can see that is the only path out of this mess of his creation!"

Falco is a bit shaken but manages to drop a flame strike on Grovas. the dragon doesn't seem to take any damage from the flame portion of the spell, and somehow manages to escape half of the divine damage.
Elyas is also shaken up a bit, but begins summoning some back up.
Mak brushes off the fear aura, and half the acid damage He charges Grovas taunting him in the process, landing a crit for good measure. Grovas is most definitely evil, but you don't know about Ledra yet.
Rolth brushes off the fear aura. He appeals to Ledra, asking her to assist in subduing Grovas, as he charges her brother. He lands one morning star blow, confirms a crit on his bite, and lands both rakes.
Ayotnom casts shield on himself, as he moves forward.
Tsak moves forward and fires an arrow at Grovas, finding a weak spot in the beast's armor like scales.
Kiwina moves into the room and addresses Ledra.
Wil fires his force crossbow and summons a second one. He misses with the first bolt, but sticks the second, failing to crit.
Grovas howls in pain at the onslaught he has received. He takes a 5ft step back and belches out a 50ft cone of cold. Rolth Mak and Kiwina all take 58 damage (DC 22 reflex for half) Tsak sees and feels the cold approaching, but the cone peters out just before hitting him.
Ledra is obviously torn. You see her looking back and forth between her beloved brother and the Petals. It is clear she is considering Rolth's words, but finally she appears to steel herself, as she moves herself into position and belches out a 50ft cone of acid. Kiwina and Tsak take 64 damage (DC 22 reflex for half)

Elyas finishes his summoning spell. a large dire tiger appears, glowing in celestial light. with a simple command from Elyas it launches itself at Grovas. It uses its divine power to smite the dragon, then launches in biting clawing and slashing at the big dragon.

Mak took a five foot step forward and lunged with his rapier just as the cone of cold lanced out at him. Once more the nimble warrior managed to sidestep the majority of the attack and bolstered by Kiwina's magic the cold wasn't as devastating as it could have been. In return the Ebonblade rapier sliced through the air and added to the bloody lines it created a moment before.

There does not seem much chance that the dragon will survive that onslaught, so he turns to Ledra to continue to plead his case that she need not die today. He drops his rage, touches himself with calming touch to end his fatigue, and speaks,

As Falco said, your kind are magnificent creatures that are rare in this world, and you seem unusual even for a dragon. The Wold would be a lesser place without you. The choice is yours, will you yield, that we might part ways as fellow admirers of the Wold rather than mortal enemies?"

... with flanking, strength, inspired courage, weapon, and haste bonuses, Kiwina hits AC 30 for (d8 weapon + d6 sneak attack + 8 =) 13 points of non-lethal damage with the trident.
No doubt Grovas feels like he was tickled.

The acid spray engulfs Tsak and halts his forward momentum. He sees the petals continue to take the fight to Grovus and from the looks of the hits landed the evil little beastie is done. Despite the pain of the breath attack Tsak stays his hand. He puts his crossbow away and draws his sword but doesn't advance. Tsak will give Ledra a few seconds to respond to Rolth. Hopefully she makes the right choice.

Wil takes a 5-foot step to the doorway and summons a third spiritual weapon. He targets the new dragon in the fight with all of them figuring the others had the big guy. With frost rimed hair and reddened skin from the acid, Mak turned to look at Ledra in the moments of Grovas' death. He could have said many things to Grovas' sister, but in the wake of the dragons death all he could do was stand and breathe while others pleaded with the remaining dragon. Yes, she should leave, but she was a dragon and presumably there was treasure here and she might be reluctant to walk away from her shiny things.
So Mak watched, and waited while Ledra made the decision to live or not.

Elyas's summons appears and tips Grovas a new one.
Mak goes to work on Grovas, turning him into a pin cushion.
Falco yells out to Ledra to stop. He believes that dragons are amazing and he doesn't want to end her as well.
Rolth tries to smooth talk Ledra into giving up the fight.
Kiwina rushes forward and lands an attack on Grovas.
Tsak is hit hard by Ledra's acid, but refuses to retaliate, hoping Rolth's words hit home.
Ayotnom takes to the sky.
Wil turns his spiritual weapons on Ledra and opens fire hitting once
Mak waits to see Ledra's reaction.
Rolth tells Wil to hold, giving Ledra time to think.

Grovas doesn't just collapse when he dies. Instead his whole body thrashes around and trembles violently, much like when you remove the head from a bird. Of course when a creature of Grovas's size thrashes about in a death throw, things can get dangerous. Mak, Kiwana, Rolth and Elyas's dire tiger must all make a DC 22 reflex save or be trampled for 27 damage, and be pinned between his body and the ground, as the thrashing comes to a halt. A successful save negates.
When Grovas falls, Ledra lets out a blood chilling scream, "Nooooooooooooo." Than in a much more somber and obviously grief stricken tone she says, "I tried to warn you brother, why couldn't you see the wisdom in my words? Why didn't you listen to father? Now you are gone and for what?" You can clearly see tears in her eyes. Without addressing the Petals, Ledra produces a scroll, reads it, and than disappears. Elyas' Dire Tiger jumps nimbly out of the way, probing the body of Grovas to make sure it is dead. Elyas recalls it before it starts to eat the body. [Reflex save = 31, pass]
Elyas just shakes his head sadly as the second dragon cries out. It didn't have to go this way. Elyas is at least glad that the petals didn't unleash their fury on Ledra before she was able to leave.
[auto-pass the spellcraft roll with a +20 modifier] She's gone, teleported out. Somehow I doubt that is the last we will hear of her though... we gave her the option of leaving, but we also killed her brother, and her father was also killed by a group like ours. that kind of thing can be a seed for worse violence in the future.
Once the body is done thrashing, Elyas will examine it with Detect Magic active to look for anything worth taking.

Mak watched Ledra vanish, unfortunately he didn't also watch Grovas' convulsing body and was slammed against one wall and pinned beneath the huge creatures tail.
