"We are the Eight Petaled Rose, champions of the Taurnament, favored of Hollyhocks." (DM Mark) MAP  d20=16 ;
Wednesday October 27th, 2021 8:14:05 PM

Rolth explains who the Petals are and how they came to be here. He uses his calming touch on the Centaurs, and they do seem less fatigued.
Kiwina adds some detail to Rolth’s story.
Tsak leaves the room and watches in the corridor for trouble.
Son Imod relates how he arrived here, and mentions Imod’s impatience with strife between the Taurs.
Falco makes sure no one is injured.
Wil channels some more healing (12 points), and wonders aloud why there would be strife among the Taurs.
Elyas gingerly picks up one of the long, rough crystals. Even as he holds it the glow fades from all of them completely. He is unable to divining the properties of the thing, though he knows they are imbued with magic still.

Eventhough Rolth’s calming touch and Wil’s healing has a benefit, still these three centaurs remain somewhat less than they should be.

It is clear that the other two centaurs defer to Pholus. At the mention of Pelonius, Pholus tired eyes sofen. ”Ah yes, the champions of the Taurnament. Hollyhocks mentioned you then, and has several times since. So it does not surprise me that Domi would choose you to visit my daughter and seek out rescue. I deeply regret that three, perhaps four of our group perished. Tell me, did you by chance hear of Brygape? He was alive when we became trapped.

“Long has there been strife between the Taur races. I would like to say it was just our competitive spirit, but alas it has become something darker. I sought this place in response to dreams from Domi. My intent was to seek wisdom in who should succeed me. But Domi had other ends in mind. There were lessons here that we needed to heed, lessons written on the walls of this place.”
He coughs a phlegmy cough that causes looks of concern from Barbale and Timapius, but he continues.

“During my time trapped in the mirror, Domi spoke to me. He has told me what I must do among the centaurs. But more importantly, he has given these three mirrors with a stern message for all the Taurs. I need to bring these mirrors back, and it looks like I will need your help with that. I think with the mirrors out of this room, that the treasure there may be safely touched. We should drink the wine together to celebrate what Domi has done through you, but the treasure there should be yours as a reward.” He has another fit of coughing.

As he speaks, his voice echoes in this place, and reflections of all of you abound from all the mirrors lining the walls.

“I am willing to help take the windows from the room,” Wil says as he joins the others.
He approaches a mirror and measures its weight and how hard it will be to move. If there are no problems, he will pick it up. (Check for traps: 16)

"Domi be praised! Certainly I will help carry the mirrors from this place. Where must we take them? Please tell us more of the lessons that you have learned from the walls of this place. We have seen the writings, but have not puzzled it all out ourselves. As far as Brygape, he did escape, and we rescued him from pirates before allowing him to head back to Centaur Isle aboard the Pounding Fury. Captain Kira seemed uncomfortable leaving you behind but did not know what else to do in the situation. Come, let us remove the mirrors and claim the reward!"

Son Imod says to Pholus after his coughing fits subside, "Are you okay? That cough does not sound good."

As for the mirrors Son Imod says, "You can count me in with respect to moving the mirrors. If Imod wills it then it shall be done. I can carry a lot so I'm willing to take up this burden if it furthers the goal of Tauric cooperation and if we get to celebrate with wine after it is done more's the better."

Elyas chuckles a bit at Pholus' words. guess it's a good thing I didn't pick the mirrors up and chuck them at the golems then! he thinks.

I do not have much physical strength, but after the next time i rest i could help transport the mirrors with some teleportation if needed.

it's certainly worth trying to get the treasure once the mirrors are moved. we know now how to get someone out of them if they get stuck again.

unfortunately I don't know what these stones do, but the are magical. I will study them closer in the morning.

When Mak heard the taur talking about racial strife all he heard was blah blah blah...Whatever was happening amongst the taur races certainly didn't extend to the other races like humans, elves, and dwarves and he doubted the few short weeks since they'd come from Minotaur Island had changed the attitudes of those from Greenvale..or for that matter the ones from Liontaur Island.

Still, he was hopeful. Maybe it would be better on Bridge Island. It could be worse...they could all be heartseeded.

Wil takes a look at the mirrors to gauge their size and portability.
Rolth says he is willing to take the mirrors from here. He asks what Pholus has learned from this place. He says that Brygape did escape and is still alive. (As I recall, Brygape threatened the captain of The Pounding Fury with losing his ship if he did not take Brygape back to Centaur Isle. Brygape was killed in the pirate attack. The Pounding Fury was badly damaged and you towed her back to Bridge Island where they intended to effect repairs.)
Son Imod is worried about Pholus, but eager to help with taking the mirrors from here as is Kiwina.
Elyas suggests some more magical options after some rest.
Mak listens.
Falco is interested in the treasure, though he thinks he cannot be much help with the mirrors.

Examination of the mirrors shows them to be about 7’ tall and nearly 3’ wide. They seem to weigh over 100 pounds. Both the frame and the tilting stand that holds them up is very sturdy and well made. They have a solid wood backing and the border of each is carved differently, one depicts liontaurs, another has a border of centaurs, and the third shows minotaurs. In the middle of these mirrors is a large bottle of blue wine surrounded by a pile of gold and gems.

Pholus replies, ”What have we learned here? Well, it seems the words of the prophets are written on the stoneway walls and underground halls.

“Two are stronger than one, and a cord of many strands is not easily broken.”
“Might and magic are often mistaken as the path to power, when they usually only lead to death.”
“False visions can be your downfall.”
“Music can soothe the soul. The music of the sphere can do more.”
“This is the beginning of wisdom - that communication and understanding leads to peace and cooperation.”

“Long did I contemplate these while trapped in the mirror. Some I think are a simple warning about the room, and some a clue for how to proceed. But all these things, indeed this very place, are a warning for all Taurs to turn from a path of destruction and pull together as one. And clearly Domi sending you here was to humble us in our hubris. Indeed, perhaps you are here to humble all Taurs. Have you been to the other isles recently, and if so why do you think that is?”

What now?

Rolth shakes his head and admits, ""I think the golem strikes must have addled my wits for a moment. Brygape is actually dead, after having forced the Captain of the Pounding Fury to set out for home. We did defeat the pirates and save the Fury, but not before they killed Brygape. Still, we learned enough of the story to lead us here, so all is not lost! As for your questions, we indeed have been to all the Taur Isles, drawn by missives from taurs, but I think guided by Domi. In each place, we sought, sometimes successfully, to bring taurs together through talk, trade, or taking up arms together. And the leaders of each place have sent us on further quests across the isles, until we arrived here on Bridge Isle, where Kiwina, a minotaur named Sable, and I started out together some time ago. Nyloth has appeared twice at least during this journey, and so must be of some note in this story. What am I leaving out, my fellow Petals?"

Although his skill at shipwork is not furniture making, the materials are similar and he will see as best he can if they can be prepared to minimize incidental damage as they are carried. Rolth provides some background info.
Kiwina looks at the mirrors, wondering how well they’ll survive being moved.
Tsak keeps watch on the silent corridor and listens for the sound of silence.
Son Imod suggests the taurs work together to move the mirrors, moving them one at a time.
Falco agrees.
Mak suggests a wagon.
Wil politely suggests tying the mirrors to the centaurs. He wonders about getting past the stone golems.
Elyas likes the idea of moving the mirrors carefully.

Pholus’ countenance darkens at the mention of Brygape. ”I will need to speak with Captain Kira about this to better understand. Brygape must’ve fled when we were trapped. Somehow he made it past those stone golems. But the fact that he made no effort to get help or come back to free us is disturbing. It’s a pity he’s dead, but it may have save me the trouble…” The other two centaurs nod in agreement.

”As for these mirrors, they are indeed sacred relics since I believe it is Domi that placed them here. I fear we may not be much help, at this point.” He gestures to himself and Barbale and Timapius. ”I do indeed apprecaite your offers to help. I have a chime that allowed us to bypass the stone golems before, so I hope it will again.”

Barbale adds, ”You are indeed a good and noble group, and you three represent the true ideals of what the Taur races should be. You will always have a place in my Herd.”

”And mine.”
adds Timapius.

You can see that, despite your ministrations these three centaurs are indeed weak. It’s almost as if they are recovering from a long illness, or perhaps starvation though none seem famished or thirsty.

As he does so, he continues talking with Pholus and the others, "I am honored to be called one of your Herd! As for Brygape, it would seem that he was terrified by the whole experience, and thought that you must all be dead. Although I suppose that could just be what he told himself to excuse his lack of steadfastness. In any event, I must warn you that things are tense back on Centaur Isle, with the various factions at each other's throats. We can help you return, of course. In the meantime, let me tell you more of how we came to be here. There is a threat to the Taur Isles, masterminded by some abomination called the Deep. We have traveled the Isles and the seas in between, encountering and defeating its servants. As we have done so, we have had occasions to foster ties between the taurs. We helped a liontaur village on Minotaur Isle deal with violent racists there--although truth be told, we might have been to violent in our defense. The Purple Duke then sent us as emissaries to Liontaur Isle, where again we did a service the local Council of Clans. They in turn sent us to deliver a message to you. By the time we arrived on Centaur Isles, you had already left to come here to Bridge Island. And so here we are. Would you like our assistance in returning to Centaur Isle? And when and where would you like us to deliver the message from the Council of Clans? Here, or upon our return to Centaur Isle?"

Kiwina helps move the mirrors to the hall, but asks if any of the spellcasters has a way to protect them for the longer trip to town. As he recalls, it to the town. As he recalls, it took about a day to get from town to the doors outside these halls. Barring that, it's back to doing what they can with ropes and blankets.

Once the mirrors are out of the room, it sounded as if Pholus believed the treasure would be safe to touch. Kiwina is willing to help with safeguards if the rest of the group wants to be sure, as suggested by their spellcasters

After that, well maybe being magical items will help the mirrors avoid incidental damage, as well.

Mak smiled at the invitation the three taurs had to join their "herds", but couldn't miss the lack of diversity by omitting the non taurs in that. It didn't annoy him, he expected that the children of Domi would likely stick together and was glad they were patching up their differences at the least.

"WE NEED A WAGON." Mak emphasized once more. "Unless you people want to carry these all the way back to town. Elmer is probably weak with hunger if he's still alive, so he's not carrying these. So we'll need to get a wagon. Yep, that is what we need, a wagon. Can we get one of those in town? You know, a wagon?"

Mak took a sip from his cup and noted that it was just plain water as he'd already used it's magic once today. He put the thing away and pulled out a wine skin he'd specially prepared for the trip. After a drink or two he smiled as all was once again right in the world.

"So, three mirrors. Two people on each one and we haul them out of here. Once outside we put them in our wagon, you know, the one we need, and then head back to town. You'll need some oxen, mules, or whatever to haul that wagon though."

"I am honored to be called one of you herd." (DM Mark) MAP
Monday November 1st, 2021 4:15:57 PM

Rolth says he is honored to join the herds of Barbale and Timapius. He says Brygape was terrified and thought everyone dead, so he fled. Then he provides some background about what the Petals refer to as “the Deep,” adding that he has a message from the Purple Duke for the centaurs.
Kiwina wonders if the mirrors can be magically transported and if the pile of treasure is actually safe to touch once the mirrors are out.
Wil suggests that perhaps his ape could hlep carry the mirrors. (How long will this ape be around? It’s been a couple minutes.)
Son Imod
Mak clarifies several times that a wagon is needed to transport the mirrors, and asks if he can get a wagon in town. The centaurs think he probably can. He wonders what may have become of Elmer. (Your current DM lost track. Did you leave him outside this place when you went in? In what manner - was he tied up, was he hobbled? Just wondering.)
Falco agrees that a wagon is in order, and wonders about some farms nearby. (You did pass some early on the trek.)

Barbale and Timapius will clarify that the invitation to join their herds was not limited to the taurs - it is open to all the Petals. They were merely noting that the three taurs in the party seem to represent the ideals all taurs should follow, and that no distrespect toward the non-taurs was intended.

Barbale and Timapius seem to jockey a bit over Rolths acceptance, but through some complicated interaction between the two Barbale seems to win out and she begins letting Rolth know what will actually be involved being part of her herd. It quickly become clear that joining her herd is not merely symbolic. Rolth will be expected to relocate to Centaur Island and BE part of her herd on a regular basis, accepting her authority over him.

Timapius replies to Son Imod with a smile, ”I was not aware that Minotaurs had herds, but perhaps I am uninformed. In anycase, I already lead a herd, so I fear I must respectfully decline joining yours.”

They seem to take this whole being a part of a herd pretty seriously, and you conclude the offer was not made lightly.

The Petals work to move the mirrors out of this room and into the hallway. Everyone there is terrified at the thought of having the ape help, so that idea is put to rest. They are heavy and their size makes them unwieldy, but they are not otherwise difficult to move. You find that though can be tilted on thier stands, they can also be locked in place making them a bit easier to deal with. They seem sturdy, but you assume the glass in them may be fragile though this has not been tested. Certainly a wagon would be the simplest means of transport.

Pholus listens carefully to everything that is said. He addresses a number of things:

”Brygape? Do not make excuses for him. When we were trapped, he could see us in the mirrors. He may have fled those jagged glass monstrosities you killed, but he knows were were not dead. The fact that he said we were dead and made no effort to bring help speaks to his loyalty. I will deal with his herd when I return.

“Factions on Centaur Isle? I don’t know what you encountred, but if you spoke with Pelonius and Hollyhocks, I am encouraged. Jockying amoungst the herds is to be expected, all the moreso with many of our leaders being away. I will settle with them when I return. As for transport, we would very much appreciate your assistance with getting back to Centaur Isle.

“The Deep? I have not heard of this and I am not aware of any threat to my people. If there is something we should do, please tell us.

“A message from the Purple Duke to the ceantaurs? You may give it to me - I would like to read it. As noted on the walls of this place, communication among the taurs has been lacking and is becoming our downfall. I believe that if we can get these mirrors to the leaders of each of the Isles, they will help with this.”

The map is not critical to keep current at this point, but I left the link in case there is a need.

OOC: DM Highlight to display spoiler: {When we entered the dungeon it was near nightfall and Mak assumed (incorrectly) that they'd only venture in to see the entrance. So, he didn't prepare Elmer in any way for an extended absence. He would have left him loosely tethered in case predators came after him. Since we ended up staying inside for three, maybe four days, Mak hopes the horse wandered off to get water at least. Elmer still had all his tack on as well. Please note that Mak made multiple attempts to get outside to the horse but was vetoed each time. We got any druids with us? }

Mak was willing to help carry whatever was needed. As for the invitation to join the heard he didn't say anything as he fully intended to return to Ailsildur one day to claim his inheritance and send those heartseeded SOBs back to the lower planes where they came from. Changing his allegiance at this point was out, but he certainly appreciated the thought of becoming allies in the Wold.

Kiwina asks if part of the group should stay here with the mirrors and recovering centaurs while the rest find a wagon or two. It would be a matter of a couple of days, and perhaps rest under a healer's care would help Pholus, Barbale, and Timapius. I'm sorry if I implied otherwise! I like the wagon idea, but suggest that we get the mirrors to the entrance to this complex before sending a few Petals to get one, perhaps from a nearby farm rather than all the way back in town. Pholus, I would propose to deliver the Duke's message to you once we are safely waiting for the wagon to return, rather than here and now, if you agree." Turning to the other centaurs, he bows and replies, "Forgive me, I am unfamiliar with centaur herd customs, and did not realize that it would be exclusive and binding. Alas, for now, my fate is tied to the Eight Petaled Rose and our quest. So please do not take my refusal of your honorable offer as anything other than my determination to meet my obligations and fulfill my duty to all taurkind."

we sill need ot move carefully to avoid the dangers in the other rooms as we leave this place. the golems should be able to be pacified with the chime, which will save us a lot of hassle in that room. we should move carefully through the coffin room and watch for more of those shadows. and we have to move the mirrors out through the doorway in an acid wall, how will we protect them from damage there?

i will volunteer to be one of the ones who stays here with these rescued nobles while others try to locate a cart or wagon. I will not be much help with that unless i have time to rest again.

Mak stands ready to carry whatever is needed.
Kiwina is a bit unsure exactly what was related about Brigape by Captain Kira, and suggests that Pholus check with the Captain to see what she knows.
Rolth says he would prefer to wait to give Pholus the message the Purple Duke sent to him. He also respectfully says that he cannot join a centaur herd since his loyalty is to the Petals.
Son Imod suggests moving the mirrors to the entrance of this place. He muses about the animal basis of the tauric races, suggesting that the groups of them are akin to their seeming animal counter parts (or at least that’s how it’s perceived.)
Tsak makes a joke about the wagon. Timapius groans, as Barbale laughs and says, ”Do not PUNnish us so…”
Falco offers to stay with the centaurs if the others go to get a wagon. In response to Son Imod, he wonders what he people might be collectively called.
Wil offers a suggestion to Falco. He also offers to stay with the centaurs.
Elyas also offers to stay, and wonders aloud how to deal with the threats of this place.

(For reference regarding Brygape, you can check the May 22 and 24, 2001 DM posts. But there is no expectation the PCs have exact recall.)

Barbale graciously accepts Rolth’s refusal to join her herd. ”I understand. In any event, know that you are welcome among the centaurs for your service to the Head Stallion and the Corral.”

Sense Motive DC 15:Highlight to display spoiler: {From the subtle flare of his nostrils and movement of his hooves, you can tell that Pholus is irritated that the Petals have a message for him that they will not give him yet, though he keeps his emotions in check. Knowledge Nobility DC 10:Highlight to display spoiler: {Pholus is the leader of the centaurs. In human terms, this would be akin to a king or powerful local ruler. Kings are not used to being told they just need to wait. However, this particular king is in your debt just now.}

Even in his weakened state, Pholus is a regal presence. To Son Imod, Pholus says, “I think you misunderstand our use of the terms Corral and Herd. These terms may have similarities to those used to refer to animals, but they are quite different terms for us. These are political divisions, and how we organize Centaur Society. Indeed, for most taurus mention of our animal similarities is considered offensive. I have found this to be true for minotaurs as well, though liontaurs seem to be less touchy on this point. As for offense, none is taken Son Imod.

“As far as minotaur herds go, I suppose you could create one, but this would be a new thing for minotaurs and perhaps not well received. What do you call a group of minotaurs, you ask? I do not know. What do you call a group of humans or elves?”
Pholus’ tone is respectful as he says these things, taking on the role of a tutor as centaurs often do.

Speaking of threats, how do you deal with the route to the entrance? Pholus will relate that as the stone golems had attacked, he puzzled out the clue and broke the metal sphere on the table. When he rang the chime that was inside, the golems immediately ceased their attacks and returned to their positions along the walls, but not before the Stallion Sebochus was slain.

There were no shadows in the room with the two sarcophagi. There they fought and defeated two mummified minotaurs that killed the Mare Agarime. They did not encounter any shadows. And then there is the matter of the acid rain in the first room.

Rolth notices the subtle signs of the Chief Stallion's concealed displeasure at being made to wait on the message from the Duke, and offers with a bow, "On second thought, I should not further delay contact between the Purple Duke and your august self, given the importance of ties between all taurs. Allow me to present this message to you now." With that, he hands over the sealed message to Pholus.

That duty done, he turns to the planning. "I agree that the chime is the best means of bypassing the stone golems, who pose a great risk to our quest if fought head on. We did not encounter any additional shadows when we returned to the room where Agarime was slain, so hopefully that remains safe. Maybe we should check for the magic items that we detected on one of the chests that the summoned elemental later burst asunder. As for the acid, it was not too hard to avoid on the way in, and we can protect the mirrors with blankets and quickly wash them off as needed, I think. Of course, magic might help, if anyone has enough mojo left today. Pholus, is it the way of your people to try to recover the remains of your fallen comrades? If so, we can do our best to remove them from this place. Any other thoughts?"

Kiwina suggests this order of exit, then.
* They will carry the mirrors to the next room, but not out of the hallway.
* They will gather the treasure where the mirrors were.
* Pholus will give someone (Kiwina would work) the chime to stop the golems, or could use it himself. That person would step into the rooms and sound the chime in order to stop the golems (and hastily retreat if it doesn't work), Someone would remain with the chime in case the golems reactivate while the remainder of the group shuttles the mirrors through that room. The group would also recover the body of Sebochus.
* Recover the body of Agarime from that room on the way to the door leading to the acid room. Ferry the mirrors and Sebochus to that point as well.
* Verify that the door can be opened.
* Protect the mirrors with what they can find or conjure -- blankets or bedrolls if nothing else. The open the door and hurry past the acid.
* Clear anything with acid off of the mirrors. See what time of day it is, and plan the remainder of the trip from there.

Wouldn't that be an interesting day?"

To Rolth Son Imod says, "Oh I've got plenty of magical energy left; the problem is most of it isn't really useful to what we are trying to do here."

Mak says that he looks forward to being out of this place, and plans to secure a wagon once the whole group is safely out.
Rolth differentially hands over the Purple Duke’s message to Pholus. He has some thoughts about the rooms, and asks about how to treat the dead centaurs.
Kiwina suggests several matters to address regarding the rooms, the bodies and the way out.
Son Imod suggests that perhaps one day all taurs will be part of centaur herds.
Tsak helps carry mirrors.
Elyas moves back into the room once the three mirrors are out to gather the pile treasure. He reminds others, as Rolth and Kiwina did, that there may be magic items still in the room where the shadows were.
Wil seems a bit eager to battle the stone golems.
Falco provides what help he can, offering to handle the golem chime.

Elyas survives collecting the treasure. It contains 5,000 gold pieces imprinted with Domi’s holy symbol (no added value though), 5,000 gp value in gems, and a very large bottle of Blue Wine.

Knowledge Local or Knowledge Religion DC 12, taurs add +5 to their roll: Highlight to display spoiler: {In tauric societies, tauric Purple wine is considered a very precious resource -- the only thing more valuable than that is the mystical Blue wine that is used for religious purposes only. It is an immediate death sentence to be caught dealing illegally in the making, trading, buying, selling or possession of Blue wine that one hasn't gotten permission from the religious sects for.}

”Thank you Rolth.” Pholus reads the missive from the Duke. ”Hmm. Increasing trade. Excellent. This is also a good sign as it will require more cooperation. He says he’s made a similar proposal to the Chief on Liontaur Isle. Good.”

“As for the dead, we would prefer the bodies be properly dealt with. Given where we are, it would be appropriate to burn them. Perhaps we can do than when we are outside.”

The Petals move the mirrors. Kiwina moves into the Dome of the Liontaurs with its liontaur statues and it’s ceiling tiled with scenes of liontaurs frolicking, fighting hellhounds, and resting in their traditional homes. Five of the liontaur statues come to life and Kiwina rings the chime, sending them back against the walls. Then the others move in. Once again the stone golems seem to move, and once again Kiwina calms them by ringing the chime. It seems that each time someone moves in the golems come to life. However, with the chime, the group makes it through the Dome of the Liontaurs carrying the heavy mirrors.

They move to the room where the Shadows were, recovering the bodies of Sebochus and Agarime along the way. They verify that the doors here can all be opened, though they tend to slowly close again if left on their own. Opening the door to the acid room, an acrid stench hits them as before and death rains down the walls, including the doorways in and out.

But I got a little ahead of things.

In the room with the two two large stone sarcophagi, where the dead mummies lay, it is the southernmost one that radiates two point sources of magic, though it looks to be empty. Who and how do you investigate this?

The map is still there for your use.

(OOC: I must be tired IRL this week. Of course the message was from the Council of Clans, not the Purple Duke, as noted in Rolth's Oct 30th post. That one was our previous quest. Sorry about that Sigh.)

Rolth shakes his head one more time, and his eyes uncross completely. "Sorry Pholus, my brains must still have been sloshing around from that blow to the head, but I think I'm better now. This missive is from the liontaur Council of Clans, although as you say, a similar arrangement was proposed by the Purple Duke to the liontaurs. I agree with you that it is a good sign indeed!"

Upon re-encountering the magic auras in the sarcophagi, Rolth recalls that Elyas had learned much about it, namely that the strong one has enchantment, necromancy, evocation, and transmutation. One moderate one emanates transmutation, and the other emanates enchantment. It might be worth checking if anything has changed, especially since the number of auras appears to have gone from three to two...

Regarding the blue wine, Rolths highlights its religious significance to taurs, and the death sentence associated with messing with it without proper permission. "Fellas, maybe we should be careful with that wine, until we can see what the proper religious authorities thing might be right to do with it. I'm still pretty new to the whole shaman thing and might be better of checking with more experienced folks first."

Son Imod notes the missive discusses trade between the liontaurs and centaurs, but what about the minotaurs? He takes his time searching the sarcophagus and he can tell there is a carefully placed false bottom to the sarcophagus where he is told the magical auras were.
Tsak stays with the mirrors.

Elyas helps put the gold, gems and wine in a bag of holding, hoping the priests will not be angry if they are given the wine. He checks the sarcophagus to see if the magics he saw before are still there, and they are.

With an audible click, Wil is able to prevent some sort of trap. He’s not entirely sure what, but he does see a few small holes in the base of the sarcophagus as he pulls up the false bottom. Who knows what might have come out of them?

(I’ve mentioned this before, but for reference you have to affirmatively say you are checking for traps. Most perception checks are reactive to what you see. Actually checking for traps requires calling that action out.)

Laying in the bottom of the sarcophagus you see two things:

+ A thick metal rod with a flanged ball at one end and six stud-like buttons along its length. This is the source of the enchantment, necromancy, evocation, and transmutation auras.
+ An ironwood staff with a fist-sized emerald that seems to have some dark, smoldering power within it. This has an aura of transmutation.

If checked, the sarcophagus still detects as magic with an aura of enchantment.

(Ooc… will try to remember)
Wil talks excessively as he works through the trap. When he disables the trap and pulls open the bottom he smiles widely.
“This is great. I haven’t done this since I was taking up residence on First St in Dirt City. I had this great box, with the white cat I called Lucky. I busted into a Dart Safe house… have I told you…” He continued to talk on as he carefully pulled the contents from the bottom and placed them on the floor.
“This staff is certainly interesting… I wonder it is?”

Falco quickly clarifies. "The permission to transport I said, not consume. I assume you have some sort of licensing for both but transporting would be a lower bar." as a reply comes he pauses "Oh, well neverminded."

Once open he rushes in from the hall, curiosity getting the better of him, and looks at what he missed. Seeing the sarcophagus still glows with magic he holds his detect magic to zero in and tries to work out what is going on. {Know Arcane: 24 | Spellcraft: 26}

He has to actually touch the sarcophagus, and he can tell there is magic associated with this that would have caused a confusion effect in the area. Mak looks helpful. Well, and he is pretty helpful in general. But he also looks the part.

The petals gather up the rod and the staff. They work together to get the mirrors down to the room with the acid. As they open the door to this room, the acrid scent almost takes their breath away and they hear the wailing as before. They see the stone faces on the walls are weeping acid, causing a spray within 5 feet of the walls.

This seems odd to Son Imod, since when he came through the place smelled the same, but the walls did not weep acid or wail.

(Sorry for the abreviated post - rough day.)

The Petals work together. You do a great job mitigating the effects of this room with the falling acid.

Rolth is able to negate the despair effects of the waling in this room with his countersong.

There is a DC 13 Reflex save to avoid taking damage moving throuh the acid - failure causes 5 points of damage as you move through. This can easily be remidied with a channeled engergy burst once you are out.

You took steps to protect the mirrors and now three bed rolls are damamge. They’re serviciable for now, but will need to be replaced which is a very minor issue.

You now make it out. Ahhh. Fresh air! You’ve kind of lost track of time a bit, and find that it’s late morning when you get out. The skies are overcast and it’s a bit chilly, but no rain. And even if there were, the initial hallway could provide some shelter, though that constant wailing would make rest difficult.

The centaurs seem relieved to be out as well and quickly set about gathering wood for a funeral pyre. All are still in a weakened state, but Pholus is clearly the worst off. You think they may get better with food, rest and time.

Elmer is nowhere to be seen.

Most of the group goes in search of Elmer, looking and occasionally calling as they go. After a couple of hours, they see some vultures on the ground in the distance. The Petals shoo them away, fearing the worst. But it’s not a horse they were eating. It’s a small mountain lion.

For surely they showed magnificent courage in taking up this quest, and meeting the test, at mortal cost. Let me see if my words can be their equal."

That we all differ
is natural, and each taur is imbued
with his own singular life and livelihood—
but none persists in a wholly happy state, separate as we are by our riven history.
… There’s no taur I can name whom Fate
… has given good, and only good, when we exist in such a state.

Fallen comrades, Fate has granted you
your day of felicity in due proportion, and as you possess the fearlessness of true success,
it has not harmed your memory, we, your guests and friends in this moment of contemplation, would help the taurs you love, deflect the darkness, and send over our heads, like water streaming down,
songs of true praise: for the good are requited, and merit renown.

"May Domi receive you by his side, to take you into his light, and continue to be a shining example for those of us left to carry on in your absence."

Elyas does not follow any particular deity closel, though the others' faith in Domi has certainly gotten them through some hard times. he bows his head respectfully as the other speak their prayers, but he does not add any words.

Once things are finished he lets them know that while he was up in the air he spotted some smoke, but it was pretty distant. he can at least point out the correct direction.

He wonders to himself, of course, it was in an audible whisper if his father would appreciate the fact that he moved from Gargul. The guy was a tough nut and a strict follower of Gargul... too bad the cleric of the Dart family died years ago.
"He did!" Wil shouted before quickly zipping up...
"A very nice ceremony," Wil says after a moment. "I'm sure Gargul will be pleased with it."
"Hey, the horse is back!"

Rolth steps up to provide eloquent words of comfort.
Son Imod shares some words about the unity of the Taurs. He provides some healing for Elmer.
Kiwina likewise adds his thoughts to the ceremony.
Falco adds a silent prayer for the fallen.
Tsak listens to the others. He prepares a campfire and makes a nice stew.
Elyas listens respectfully. He later mentions the smoke he saw in the distance.
Wil talks to no one. He assures the centaurs that he has a few loose marbles, but that he’s perfectly sane. Totally lucid. No need to worry about us.

Pholus, Barbale and Timapius also speak of the fallen centaurs. You learn that the mare Agarime and the stallion Sebochus were two Herd Leaders and part of the ruling Corral. You learn about their families and their bravery. You learn that Sebochus was an artist, making intricate carvings. Agarime was an accomplished bowyer and fletcher, and worked with Sebochus decorating some of the weapons she made. They were valued members of the community on Centaur Island and will be deeply missed.

As Rolth, Son Imod and Kiwina speak they feel a peace about the ceremony. This peace also emboldens them and gives them a sense of courage in their service to Domi/Imod. (For Rolth, Son Imod and Kiwina - You may add +5 to your next attack made against something that is attacking you or poses a threat to someone you care about. This is a one time benefit. You should note this on your character sheet.)

The pyre is lit, and the fallen are toasted with the blue wine. The wine is passed around and consumed until it is gone. If anyone balks at drinking the wine, Pholus will assure them that Domi approves of this, and they need not fear either it’s effects or repercussions from drinking it. The wine is very potent and very good. Everyone's a little tipsy as a result.

Night falls and the sky is clear and dark, filled with stars. Pholus will spend some time pointing out constellations and sharing the significance of each and teachin a little about using them for navigation.

Everyone is tired. A watch is set, and the centaurs will take a turn. You sleep without incident, and wake to a cold but sunny morning.

Rolth is quite pleased to have such rare approval to partake of the sacrament of the Blue Wine, and enjoys both the wine and the comradeship of his fellow taurs and Petals. Surely there is more to come!

Rolth enjoys the evenings activities. In the morning, he mentions again going to seek a wagon to make things easier with the mirrors.
Kiwina appreciates the evening. In the morning he asks Elyas where he saw the smoke.
Son Imod may not know the local customs himself, but he certainly is able to piece together from what has been said they drinking this blue wine was very unusual and significant. He agrees with the need for a wagon.
Tsak is good with the plan, and suggests that Mak take Elmer to see if he can get transport.
Falco appreciates the significance of what happened, and thanks Pholus, though the little owlman is a bit worried.
Elyas also enjoys the experience with the centaurs and his friends. He direct people to where the smoke was coming from.
Wil is uncharacteristically quiet. And happy.

Everyone seems to enjoy the peaceful evening, even with the somber send off of the deceased centaur leaders. Indeed, there is a peacefulness to it all and people wake with a calmness and feel unusually centered, as though everything that has happened and is happening as it should be.

There is general agreement that a safe means of transporting these mirrors is a good idea, and a wagon of some sort seems to be in order.

There is some discussion about seeking out this source of smoke, which when contained as this seemed to be usually indicates some sort of control and intent. But, you know, could be a farmstead, or a house fire, or even trolls cooking local residents. Hard to say.

Kiwina has already pointed out that he and Rolth are the fastest, and therefore thinks they should go. But he isn't sure how Elmer would take the company and does not object if the rest of the group prefers a different arrangement.

In his mind, the question is where to look for a wagon. Town was a day away, and even if he and Rolth are faster they're not going to get to town and back in a day. He tries to recall where the communities are located on this island, and whether another is closer. (know geography = 21)

Rolth is content to go with the party consensus on who goes to find a wagon and who stays put. His hope is to find a wagon at a farm or small village very close by, rather than have someone go all the way back to town. He suggests that, if the smoke looks like it isn't too far away, we all just go that way together, carrying the mirrors with us the short distance. If farther, then sending two or three, with all due caution as they near the smoke, seems better. He is happy to be one of the two or three, or defer to Mak, Tsak, and others who have expressed interest in going.

Who Goes There? - (DM Mark) MAP

Kiwina estimates the source of yesterday’s smoke is a little less than an hour away, even with Mak on foot with Elmer. Mak will recall that Elmer’s never really been trained to ride, but the horse is trained to a pack or a wagon.

Everyone seems to have a different idea about where to go, who should go and what to check out. Various options are discussed. Seek out a village or a nearby farm, or failing that to go all the way back to town. To simplify, the DM will assume the following:

Tsak and Mak move off with Esmerelda and and Elmer to check out the nearby source of the smoke. There is no big source of smoke now, but as they approach they do see a farmstead in the distance. Son Imod notices a group of dogs or perhaps coyotes following them. Mak tries to scare them off with a few arrows and bolts, but eventually Mak finds he has to actually shoot one to make his point. Killing one of them does dissuade the canines and they move off from what they thought was easy prey.

Coming closer, to the farmstead you see a timber wall encloses a corral, and a two story house sized for a large creature. There is a worked garden area outside the wall, and you notice the remains of a burnpile, likely from the day before. As you approach you see a thin whip of smoke coming from a chimney of a house sized for a large creature. The large gate in the wall is open.

The two story house is positioned to provide an excellent view of the surrounding area. A large minotaur emerges from the farmstead wall and hails you as you approach. ”Greetings. We do not get many visitors here. To what do I owe the pleasure of this visit? I am Seolas Greateye.”

Having found them, he says you also found some heavy items that must be transported with care and ask if the minotaur will lend or rent them a wagon.
Son Imod introduces himself. He looks for a sign the minotaur follows Imod, but sees nothing that would indicate this.
Mak remains silent, holding the reigns of Elmer.

At the farmstead, Seolas stands in the open gate. He holds a stout staff in his hand, but not threateningly. "Greetings Tsak and Mak. And Son of Imod? That is a bold claim to be the child of a god. You say you would like to rent a wagon - what do you offer? You are an odd trio with an odd story. Tell me, where are you from that you came here without a wagon, but now are in need of one. What is this cargo you wish to transport? And who and where are these centaurs that they should need rescue by you three here on Bridge Island?"

They did not have posession of the artifacts going to the dungeon so they did not need the cart going in but coming out it would be greatly beneficial to have it to get back from whence we came. As I said we are willing to compensate you. Now the going rate for a coach cab is 1 copper per mile however you aren't exactly a livery service and a given wagon is worth about 35 gp so how about 1 silver per mile?"

Son Imod says to Tsak, "Since I joined you guys at the dungeon how far do we have to go back to get where we are going?

Son Imod then turns back to Seolas and says, "As for the centaurs I believe they are some nobles that got themselves tangled up trying to recover the mirrors from the dungeon. The mirrors hold a special significance for those who follow Imod."

Son Imod then nods to the figure in the window and asks, "Who is that person and might they have any thoughts about our request for your wagon that we should ask them about?"

We will probably only need the wagon to get the mirrors to the nearest town, we can make other arrangements from there. Its about a days walk, not sure how many miles. Wouldn't be more than 15. Son Imod clarifies his name and shares about they you are here. He asks about hiring a wagon again, and asks about the other minotaur.
Tsak says you only need the wagon to go to town, maybe 15 miles away. He offers 30 sp.
Mak looks on.

Seolas shifts his staff to his left hand and steps forward offering a handshake. ”Welcome. The in the window? That is Erdinan. Forgive our apprehension. You are welcome here - please accept our hospitality.

“As for a wagon, I agree on one condition. I go with my wagon, and you can pay me what you wish. I would like to see what this is all about and meet these centaurs that needed rescue. Come, refresh yourselves. Would you like some water or wine? I’ll get some food.”

Seolas waves to Erdinan and heads to back into the gate, gesturing to you to follow.

Erdinan appears in the doorway to the structure, and ee goes and speaks quietly with Seolas. They go into the house and soon emerge with a couple of wooden platters of rough bread, cheese and fruit. You see a couple horses, some goats and some chickens in the yard. He offers an apple to Mak to give to Elmer.

Son Imod agrees to have the minotaur accompany the Petals with his wagon. He mentions the rescued centaurs.
Mak says the Petals are transporting mirrors and rescued none other than the King of the Centaurs. He ups the offer to 100 gold as would befit a task for royalty.

Seolas is a bit surprised. ”100 gold you say. And the King of the Centaurs. I was not aware they had a king. But now I am intrigued. I tell you what - if you're as close as you say you are, we shall go and fetch this King of the Centaurs and bring him and your friends here. That way you can rest a bit before we make the day’s journey to town. I assume by town you mean Hearthhold Keep by the bay there.” (That sounds about right. And staying here means you will reach the town in one day without having to bed down on the road.)

”Family? No, it’s just Erdinan and I here. We have no family.”

Erdinan also greets you, though he seems more reserved. He and Seolas discuss things, and Seolas tells him to prepare for guests while he goes to fetch them. Erdinan asks, ”Won’t this King of yours be offended by such a mean estate and and meager offerings?”

Seolas grabs a bag and a few supplies, hitches the wagon to one of his horses, and asks if you want to use Elmer as the other beast to haul the wagon, or he should use both his horses?

--------------------------------------------------------------

Rolth continues to take a gentle approach, introducing the Eight Petaled Rose. He asks who Yan is and how this creature may be sent back?
Kiwina is also puzzled, saying he was not aware the Petals had summoned this creature.
Falco chimes in, telling the creature he is glad to have another small person around and asking that he come out from his hiding place.
Wil has a conversation with himself, warning himself of a thread and suggesting he looks even crazier now.
Elyas asks who this Yan is, asserting the Petals have no business with someone named Yan.

After a moment, a small creature steps out from behind the brush. He is about 2’ tall and weighs maybe 30 pounds, with brown, weathered skin and pale hair. He carries a sturdy knife and a pouch designed to give quick access to several darts. Dressed in rather nice clothing in earth tones and leather boots. His upswept ears clearly show him to be a fey of some sort. He has a rather sour look on his face.

”Yan? He’s a nasty little trickster in Maab’s court. But he’s got a mighty pretty sister. If’n he didn’t have the high friends he does, I’d give him what for! Yeah, you say you don’t know Yan. Then how come he sent me here? This don't look like Maab’s court. Are you in her service too?”

He reaches down to take the food Rolth provided. He says as he chews, ”Hey, this’ pretty good. Got anything to drink? And don’t be tryin’ any funny stuff. I’ll know an’ you’ll be sorry.

“Eight Petaled Rose, eh? You don’t look like no flower folk - or any kinda plants for that matter. Centaurs ain’t plants.”

“How ya doin’ there Birdman Roseguy? I'm Wemore. Where am I?”

The Centaurs look at the little creature and seem to dismiss him as being neither a help nor a hindrance as they talk amongst themselves.

Mak says Elmer was recently injured, so Seolas should use both his horses.

Seolas nods and he and Erdinan hitch both his horses up. Seolas asks how many guests they will have, and asks Erdinan to prepare for as many. Seolas carries out a heavy wooden chest and fixes it beneath the driver's seat. He puts a heavy staff, a large morning start and a crossbow in the wagon along with his bag things.

As Seolas prepares to leave, it’s clear that Erdinan is a bit worried. Seolas tells him not to fear, that he knows Seolas can take care of himself. They embrace and then you are all off.

Any that wish to ride in the wagon may, and Elmer can be tethered to the wagon as well. You’ll find the wagon bed is a bit of a bumpy ride as you head back.

Rolth is unsure about this little man and defers to Falco.
Wil hears Yan referred to as a trickster. He wisely surveys the surroundings for trouble.
Falco explains who he is and who the Petals are and are not. He replies that all he has to drink is water.
Kiwina says the Petals do not know Yan, and asks if perhaps Wemore can recall what Yan said before he wound up here.

Wemore thanks Falco for the water. ”Water’s fine there Birdman. Er, I mean Falco was it?

”So, you folks say you don’t know Yan. Awright then. He, well, he didn’t like me hanging around his sister you see. So he told me to ‘shove off.’ He’s the one that oughta’ shove off. He says she’s marrying a fella named Kerleksurian. Do you know him? Nope, ok, well he’s a rich guy awright, but … well I don’t s’pose you care about all this. Anyhow, Yan said I needed to take a trip far away. Then he cast a spell and here I am. Oooo, when I get ahold of that guy, he’s gonna be sorry.

“But … how’m I gonna get back to the Twilight Vale. You got someone that can send me back? This don’t look like the Twilight Vale, and I’m pretty sure I can’t walk there from here - wouldn’t even know which way to head.”

Wil points out the incoming wagon.
Tsak As the wagon pulls up, Tsak jumps out and introduces the minotaur Seolas.
Mak adds to that, introducing Pholus as the King of the Centaurs, as well as Brygape and Timapius. He says that Seolas has agree to provide transport for the heavy mirrors and shelter for the evening.
Rolth is puzzled by the little Fey creature. He greets Seolas and mentions the fey visitor to Mak.
Kiwina follows the lead of the other centaurs here and ignores the little man.
Falco tells Wemore he has no way to transport the little man back.
Elyas looks at the strange little creature and listens to his tale.

For Elyas: Highlight to display spoiler: { This fey creature is a Buckawn. Buckawns are somehow related to brownies, but they are nowhere near as kind-hearted and playful. They are extremely reclusive and rarely have dealings with outside races. Buckawns favor daggers and darts in combat. They readily use poisoned blades when confronted with a tough opponent, when outnumbered, or when battling opponents for whom they have great disdain.

Wemore’s mention of the Maab and the Twilight Vale, brings to mind stories he’s heard about the Valleys of Twilight where Maab, the Queen of the Fey, holds sway. The valleys sit between the Lands of Rest and the Estates of Unrest, and contain Lands of Yore from the times of the Gods of Yore, including lands long since removed from the Wold, and remembered only here. Some valleys in her realm hold great evil, and others great goodness. Some say that the Valleys are places of dreams and mysteries.
}

Wemore seems apprehensive with the approaching wagon, and he hides behind Falco a bit. The Centaurs still seem to ignore him.

Barbale and Timapius stomp around a bit as the introductions are made, but Pholus gestures for them to be patient. Then he says, ”Greetings Seolas. You are kind to help us out. I am Pholus, Lead Centaur and head of the Corral on Centaur Island. I am not a king in the human sense as I was kindly introduced. We Centaurs are more of a loose collective and we elect our leaders. Barbale and Timapius here are both Herd Leaders, and all the Herd Leaders make up the Corral that makes decisions for my people.

“Son Imod, Tsak and Mak - tell me what agreement was reached with Seolas for this service?”

“As for the rest of you, you seem to have found a little lost friend. What do you plan to do with Wemore?”

At this, Wemore seems a bit offended. ”Do? With me? Yer some kinda centaur king - doesn’t a king have a way to get me to the Twilight Vale?”

Pholus does not respond to the little man. Do you Wemore go with you? He seems a little lost, scared and grumpy.

Soon, you’re on your way to Seolas’ farmstead. On arrival, You find the gates are closed, but as you approach, Seolas produces a whistle and soon the gates are opened by Erdinan.

As you enter, you find that Erdinan has been quite busy. Things look very tidied up. A large tarp has been tied up inside of the timber palisade as a makeshift tent, and fresh hay and some blankets have been placed beneath it. A large fire is ready to be lit in the middle of the enclosed yard.

DM Highlight to display spoiler: {"That fellow Mak over there always has some booze about, you might want to ask him politely for a drink. He's a bit old school, but alright despite that."}

Standing back up, Rolth makes ready to move to the farmstead, and looks suitably impressed upon arrival. "Quite the tidy place you have made for yourselves, very nicely done. Thank you for welcoming us into your home. Perhaps I could sing for our dinner?" If they agree, he will pull out his sawgrass lute, and sing up a cheery tune that might even inspire some to dance and caper.

Tsak responds to Pholus' query about the services agreed with Seolas:
We agreed to lodgings for the evening and transport to the nearest town for the mirrors. After that we will have to make other arrangements to get them where you need to go.

He turns to Esmerelda:
Apparently this is Wemore. So far he's a friend, don't eat him... yet The last with a wicked wink to the creature.

Son Imod studies Wemore.

Perception: 23
Know[Nature]: 29 (OOC: is Wemore a fey?)

Son Imod says to the party and Wemore, "I have within my possession the ability to open a pocket realm only I may enter to do some crafting. I learned how to do this so that I may focus on quickly using my herbal healing capability. I can attempt to quicken the pace at which I brew my special herbal healing potion so that I have a 100% chance of encountering a fey creature. Now you cannot enter my portal unless you know how to use an ishgaran stylus to create pocket realms yourself and have an ability that lets you help me create my herbal healing poition but from what I understand there is no rule preventing a fey that shows up from exiting the portal with me. If I were to attempt to brew an herbal healing item quickly enough theoretically I could make contact with a fey creature. This creature may be friendly or adversarial but don't some fey creatures travel to the Twilight Vale fairly regularly? If I take this gambit and attract a friendly fey that can travel to the Twilight Vale maybe this fey can help Wemore? I mean it would be a risk on my part as I could summon an adversarial fey but it might help Wemore get to where he wants to be sooner. I confess I don't think the intention of using the Ishgaran stylus to create a pocket crafting realm is to use it to make contact with the fey but if I attempt to make time in this pocket dimension move fast enough while I am working on my potion it will cause one to appear nonetheless"

Wil listens intently to Son Imod and is amazed with this talk of pocket dimensions. He recalls some interest in this stuff when he was under Gargul.
"I would be cool to learn more of this," he says to himself but of course Wil cannot keep his thoughts quiet and says it aloud.
"I once wanted to be a Grim reaper.. cool thoughts."

Elyas shakes his head.

I have heard of the Twilight Vale. but only in stories. it is a place of contradictions, ruled by the fey Queen Mab. they are ancient places, and some of the valleys in her realm have been removed from the Wold long ago. I do not know the way to get there, and even if i did I don't know that it would be the right choice. the lands are alien to us, full of great evil and great good and very hard tot ell the difference.

he looks tot he little fey

you are welcome to journey with us though, and if you know of a way to return home we will try to help as well as we can. but i do not have answers that you do not have on how to return

Kiwina is happy at having a place to stay, and helps see to the careful placement and securing of the mirrors in the wagon. He addresses they fey creature before they go, "Wemore, we're heading to a place to stay overnight and after that to a town. If you're comfortable with those places, it's more likely we can find you help there than here."

When they reach the homestead, Kiwina looks the place over -- particularly Seolas and Erdinan. (Sense motive = 26, perception = 35, both include bonuses for dealing with monstrous humanoids)

"Seolas, what sorts of creatures live in the area? . . . Have you seen or heard of anything like Wemore around here before?"

A Relaxing Evening - (DM Mark)
Tuesday November 23rd, 2021 5:27:54 PM

Rolth asks Wemore if he is willing to help the Petals in their quest in the Taur Isles. He thanks his hosts here at this farmstead and offers to play some music.
Tsak clarifies the Petals agreed to stay the night here, and that Seolas would provide transport of the mirrors for the following day’s travel to town. Then he introduces Wemore to Esmerelda and tells the cat not to eat the little fey.
Mak confirms what Tsak says about the arrangement with Seolas. Then he adds to Rolth’s proposed entertainment.
Son Imod considers Wemore. He offers to use an Ishgaran stylus to open a portal and bring in a fey creature that may help. Or may it not.
Falco is a bit sceptical and tells Wemore he may travel with the Petals if Son Imod’s plan does not work out.
Wil tells Wemore that the Petals will help, but he needs to be patient. He says he would like to know more about Son Imod’s proposal, and admits to wanting to be an embodyment of death
Elyas shares what he know of the Twilight Vale, but agrees that Wemore may travel with the Petals.
Kiwina tells Wemore the Petals will help if they can. He keeps an eye on his hosts and their farmstead.

Kiwina: Highlight to display spoiler: {Kiwina can tell that Seolas and Erdinan are a couple, though they seem discreet and respectful on this point with their visitors. He can see that Erdinan has worked hard to prepare accommodations for the guests that are not usual here. He senses no subterfuge nor hidden agendas with Seolas and Erdinan - they simply seem to accept things at face value and expect the same. They both seem intelligent, and they are observing the Petals and the centaurs as well.}

Seolas replies to Kiwina. ”Creatures? Well, we seem to have the usual fauna, including some smaller predators.” Not sure what “smaller” means to a minotaur though. ”Nothing that causes us trouble really, but we do keep our animals in out of caution. There are other faresteads around, some that hold extended families. A few villages here and there, and of course there is Hearthold Keep overlooking the fishing village where we are travelling tomorrow. It’s said that Keep is the resting place of the Healed Heart of Domi, though I’m not sure what that is or if it’s even true. But I understand that Bridge Island is different than the other Taur islands. Where at they tend to each hold one race of taurs, all three live here in harmony.”

Pholus will add that it is this division that he believes these mirrors will help address.

Wemore becomes rather excited at Son Imod’s proposal. He begins to hop from one foot to the other as he talks, balancing excitement with apprehension. ”Holy moly big boy, you maybe got a way fer me to get home? Let’s do it, let’s do it. If you can get someone from the Twilight Vale here, I’ll do my best to convince ‘em to take me back. Ooo, wait’ll I get ahold of that Yan! You guys are alright.”

The centaurs also seem intrigued by Son Imod’s proposal. The stallion Timapius in particular seems very interested in this, ”Tell me Son Imod, what is this Ishgaran Stylus? How is a pen or marking tool able to open a portal to the fey realms?”

You soon notice a rectangular pit with burning wood. It has a place for a couple of spits that may be put across the eventual coals, and there is a slaughtered pig and goat dressed and ready on a couple of spits. There is also a basket of vegetables and tubers nearby. That looks like a lot of work already done and still ahead for the laboring Erdinan.

Son Imods plan calls for an overtly raised eyebrow and a quick glance at Wil. Seems like theres some competition for the role of kooky professor.

He is conscious of the effort spent by their hosts and makes sure to chip in and help and to let them know its appreciated.

Son Imod says to Timapius, "Well as I understand it the technique was developed by an adventurer named Gillian to speed up time spent crafting items. I decided the ability could be useful so I sought to learn it myself. Apparently the magical properties of the ishgaran tree convey the stylus with this ability if you have have learned to employ it so. All one does is draw a portal on a vertical surface and one can enter this portal to get to the crafting area. It is equipped with some tables and a heat source that can serve as a forge. Time moves quicker there to facilitate faster crafting and the area is setup such that while a crafter is there they do not need to worry about food or rest. The thing is using it incurs a very small risk of attracting a fey like 1% with normal usage. One can attempt to make time flow up to 4 times faster in exchange for a 100% encounter with a fey. The problem is I do not know if the fey encountered will be good, evil or neutral until I do so and I can only do it once per day.

I'm not a conventional crafter but my herbal healing ability is similar enough to potion brewing that I could benefit from this ability. I was planning to make a cure serious wounds herbal healing potion today and if we are settling here for the night I should be able to do so. Like I said though we may not attract anyone who could help us get you home but I'm willing to try.'

If no one has any objection he prepares to create an herbal healing potion of cure serious wounds at 4 x speed using the portal.

Fascinating. I would love to see this in action, and perhaps study the stylus at some point. I have some experience (more recently particularly) with summoning creatures from other planes, but none of them have been fey. mostly celestial animals and elementals.

be careful dealing with the fey, their morals are not like our own. Some say the fey cannot tell a lie, but they are experts at not quite telling the truth either. one that seems good may in fact be evil or the other way 'round

A Relaxing Evening - (DM Mark)
Wednesday November 24th, 2021 4:58:55 PM

Rolth offers to help with the cooking, and sings as he does so.
Mak Enjoys the evening, but lets Rolth do most of the music.
Kiwina delights the others with rather interesting tales from his island home. He alerts Erdinan of liontaur meat preference.
Tsak worries a bit about Son Imod’s plan, thinking perhaps Wil’s madness is rubbing off on the minotaur.
Son Imod explains the use of the stylus and Gillian’s Fast Forge to the interested Timapius.
Elyas is interested in what Son Imod proposes to do, but warns care in dealing with the Fey.
Wil keeps a sharp eye out, but sees nothing out of the ordinary. Until a visitor appears.

Son Imod takes some time to draw a portal on the farmstead wall with his stylus. A doorway appears and the minotaur steps in and begins hastily crafting a potion. Soon, there is a shimmering in the back of the space where Son Imod is, and a medium sized woman steps through. She wears an exquisite close fit green and gold gown with a high collar, and she moves with an unnatural grace. She is very shapely and attractive. Large green emeralds hang from her upswept ears, and her brilliant red hair flows across her shoulders and is topped with a crown of live twigs.

Her eyes grow wide, and she smiles broadly as she regards Son Imod. Even though she looks up at the tall minotaur, Son Imod feels as though she is somehow weighing and measuring him same time, almost gauging his worth.

”Well, I see an artisan is a work here, and a strapping specimen at that. It seems you are trying to tap into the power of the Twilight Vale to cheat time. Excellent! Tell me what is your name child, and what do you seek to make here? You know, I can offer you a tool that will enhance your skill at this.” She holds forth a delicate cut crystal flask with precise measurements marked on the sides. Light sparkles off the thing.

Then she looks out of the interdimensional portal and into the courtyard. ”Oh, you have some little friends with you. How wonderful! So, who are you all?”

Wemore’s excitement seems to fade and he goes a bit pale. He almost seems to hide behind the little Falco.

As she appeared, the centaurs look on with interest. Likewise, Seolas and Erdinan watch intently, a bit apprehensive at her sudden appearance.
