Rolth skins the Hellhounds with Kiwina's help, he also tries to help identify the rod.
Kiwina queries what the party will do next, and tires to figure out if the pups will fend for themselves. Highlight to display spoiler: {Yes the pups are probably old enough to fend for themselves}
Tsak mentions his desire to keep the rod, depending on what it does, but he's also prepared to kill the pups and offers Mak water.
Falco tries to help identify the rod, and get's excited about what it might be.
The Petals continue on their way moving across the plains and territories towards where the Hound's Tooth Clan's lands are, the journey is nice and easy going, not too many hills or ravines or rivers to worry about. At the end of the following day you arrive at the main Hold in the Hound's Tooth lands, and find it, oddly, completely empty.
There is no sound, no movement, it appears as if everyone has just left. You can see in the distance a small wisp of smoke rising, possibly from a cottage or something along those lines. It's not out of control, so possibly coming from a chimney.
Other than that, the whole place is without any sign of life at all.

Falco very much enjoys the walk and takes the time to look at the local flora. I wanted to see the Wold so this is a nice little walk. When they get to the hold he is a little surprised it is pretty empty but at the same time is use to odd situations at this point.

Rolth looks around Highlight to display spoiler: {It appears they all left peacefully, but dropped whatever they were doing and walked away. There are no signs of a struggle.}
Tsak keeps watch. Highlight to display spoiler: {You can hear nothing but the sound of birds and other perhaps small animals in the brush. Nothing that you wouldn't expect to hear if you were standing silently in the middle of a large field with no buildings out in the wilderness.}
As you all look around the small village you see that the whole place is in good condition, there's no damage or anything broken, and everything is covered in canine and teeth motifs. It would seem the Hounds Tooth Clan is nothing if not proud. A lot of things have wolf or canine teeth as adornments and display markings, clearly intended to show off in some way.
There are meals left out, soups, meats and bread... all of which seems to be old. The soups appear to have frozen, rethawed and frozen again, the bread is becoming mouldy an inedible and the meat has turned and begun rotting. The smells are... impressive, to say the least.
Candles appear to have burned all the way to the end, fires are just full of ash and thoroughly burned logs, but all are stone cold...
There are a few pantry doors open with food left on the floor, covered in dust, as if whoever was getting it out simply placed it on the ground and left...
The smoke is continuing to rise a few minutes walk away...

Kiwina can't tell what happened in such a busy place after the time that has passed. "They seem to have gone quickly and unexpectedly. Might do to see ifvthey had time or thought to take their animals if we intend to look around here before checking out the smoke." He'll cast expeditious retreat on himself on the way over, and if the locale at the source of the smoke looks inhabited, he'll also cast Eagle's Splendor just before we arrive.

I wonder what could make everyone leave all at once so suddenly? if i was leaving my home in a hurry i would probably bring my food with me, not knowing when i might find more. this certainly has a creepy feeling to it

As you approach the source of the smoke, you see a small defensible earthen hovel, carved into the side of a hill, with a chimney allowing a small trail of smoke to come out of it. The home itself appears in good condition despite it's semi-rudimentary construction. It's clearly built with a defensive position in mind and is rather well fortified for it's style. You can see some movement inside the hovel, and it's the only sign of life in the area.

Tsak looks around Highlight to display spoiler: {Everything is eerily quiet, you hear the odd birdsong, but not as much as you might expect. Even the normal sounds of nature seem a little subdued. But you cannot hear anything moving or sneaking up on you, it's just... quiet.}
After you all call out/knock on the door, the door opens, to reveal an old wizened Liontaur, who looks to each of you, a frown on his face.
"What are you lot doing here? The Eight Petaled Rose? Never heard of ya. What do you want?"
The frown never leaves his face, but his fur is greying and old, he still moves with grace and deftness despite his apparently advanced age.
The Building is large enough to fit a small family, maybe up to three or four people, but any more than two and it'd be a tight fit. It looks comfortably habitable by one or two people.

The old taur looks you up and down and makes a harrumph before turning back around into his hovel and walking in, leaving the door open. You stand stunned for a few moments before you hear his voice bellow back out.
"Are you going to come in, or stand outside like animals all day. Outside is no place to have a long conversation..."
His tone is slightly perturbed but not annoyed. You all enter the home and it seems nicely enough decorated, spartan, with only a couple of chairs, but a warm hearth going and just enough creature comforts to keep someone happy. He goes and fills a kettle with some water then comes back in and puts it on the fire.
"I'm Chesmu and I assume you all drink tea?" he says as he sits down in one of the chairs facing the fire. "You all best take a seat, this could take some time to go over... so you're here for Nantyr then? He left with the rest of the village. The headed towards the coast, but I've no idea why." The kettle boils after he speaks and he pours everyone a cup of tea, before sitting down and drinking his own.

You are all given tea, as Chesmu sits down in his seat, letting out a little groan as he does so.
"Well... it happened quite some time ago. About a month I think... they all just up and left. They were blathering about some important thing they had to go and do. I don't often head into the hold proper, I tend to keep to myself so I only heard about it when I went into the centre for a bit. They were discussing the need to do something. I didn't really pay attention."
He pauses, sipping his tea for about thirty seconds before continuing. He speaks slowly, making it all take a lot longer than needed.
"After a few days, it didn't seem like they were comin' back so I let all the animals go... didn't seem right to let them all starve to death, and I can't take care of them myself." He shakes his head. "Very irresponsible of the rest o the clan. It reminds me of Chitto..." when he mentions Chitto he looks to his side, into the corner where there's nothing you can see. "Yes yes I'm getting to it..." he says to the corner.
He takes a long deep breath, and sips more of his tea, the slurping sounds filling the house.
"Chitto wanted to remind me to tell you about the amulets... the townsfolk had said they had found new amulets for the Clan, and that most of them began wearing them." He turns back to the corner. " There? See? I mentioned it! Happy?" he says this last part a little jokingly and sighs afterwards.

Elyas frowns at the mention of new amulets, reaching for his own neck, but then remembering that he left the tentacle amulet on board the ship. he is about to ask about the amulets when Falco speaks up first. Elyas puts his hand back down and waits to hear the answer.

Mak, like some of the others was reminded of the amulet they were warned to stay away from. That they left it on the Rose made him feel a bit more comfortable.
What was unsettling was the creatures focus on what appeared to Mak to be an imaginary being. Mak peered into the location where the creature was speaking to see if anything at all might actually be there. Unless the thing was sitting in plain sight Mak didn’t see it.

They were... wrong somehow. They gave me the creeps. So I told them not to bother me anymore. A few days later, they were gone."

Chesmu shakes his head. "All I know is they were glowing and looked like... snakes or something, but rising up out of a stone... well... sort of like snakes. I don't know where they got them from, and I don't think anyone has any boats. Even if they did, they'd never have enough space for everyone." He takes a deep breath, and describes a fairly easy route to the coast. "That's the route they took. Nantyr's home is in the hold itself, it's a larger property, has double doors at the front... I don't know if anyone unusual came, I don't go into the centre of the hold often. What's with all the questions?!?"
His head snaps to the corner.
"Chitto said I should apologise... sorry... I guess. Anything else? No I've no idea where they got the amulets, or what they thought they should do. As I said I keep to myself... much like I'd want to be doing now..."

I suggest we proceed with caution. I'd like to find the tribe before they find us and watch them for a while. Those harpy's that were under a compulsion were sickly and not looking after their own interests. This could be very powerful and we need as much information as possible before proceeding.

Now that the group isn't around Chesmu and Chitto, Kiwina admits that he isn't sure he trusts something that only materializes at night. That isn't like the spirits he knows.
Kiwina does his best to help locate Nantyr's place from the descriptions they were given (perception = 34).
Tsak stays with the group performing his role of point guard. But he also keeps an eagle eye out for anything that resembles a tavern.

Some of you check out the village, some of you look out for a tavern.
Tavern group - Highlight to display spoiler: {You find an inn, with several barrels of beer still sitting in the casks, and some bottles of spirits under the bar. You could easily take them as there is no one around to stop you. As you drink a few you, you begin to relax and enjoy yourselves.}
Searching Group - Highlight to display spoiler: {The village itself hasn't changed, but you quickly manage to find Nantyr's home. It become apparent that it was abandoned at the same time you know the others abandoned the village, there is dust on the floor and covering everything, with not foot prints in it until you enter. If Nantyr came back to the village he certainly didn't stop at his home.}
After a few hours, you meet up again and head back to Chesmu, who greets you again with a warm smile and a cup of tea.
"Chitto will be along in a moment. Did you find anything of any use in the village?"

Mak too enjoyed just a couple of beers on a warm sunny day.
It has helped take the edge off his nerves and happily his leg has improved with the rest. He is still guarded, but interested to see if Chitto turns out to be anything of import.

"Chitto, show yourself to these friends of mine..."
After a little while, a spirit glows and fades in, it's another Taur, a young looking female liontaur, who smiles happily at Chesmu, then looks to the rest of you.
"It is good to meet you... I'm Chitto... I heard your conversation earlier, and wanted to offer my help. I can answer some questions about the area that Chesmu may not know if you like. But I won't have the strength to remain here long... you will only have time for a few questions." The spirit smiles at you briefly before looking back at Chesmu, who's eyes you can see are welling up.

Mak simply relaxes.
Chitto smiles brightly at you, but you can see that remaining requires quite a lot of effort.
"I will do my best to answer the questions that are most pertinent... the amulets definitely had something to do with the Clan leaving... once one of them got an amulet, everyone else started wanting to get it too... they all began turning up with them. The Clan went to the coast... I believe because the amulets encouraged them to do so... Chesmu was right when he said the amulets were wrong."
She takes a deep focussing breath, you can tell she's drained from appearing and is going to have to disappear very soon.
"Nantyr was not here when the rest of the clan left, but once he arrived, he immediately followed them... it's like he knew where to go... I believe the amulet he had was what drove him to return and then head to the coast... I'm sorry... I have to... have to... go... "
With that Chitto begins to fade from view, but smiles at Chesmu, who smiles back, you notice a subtle nod shared between the two, and Chesmu's eyes are filled with tears again, after a few moments he wipes the tears away.
"Right... well I hope that helps you... if you can find the clan and bring them back and fix them of the issues making them act strange it'd be helpful! You're welcome to stay here, or in the Inn if you prefer until morning when I guess you'll set off to the coast."

Rolth thanks Chitto as she fades from view. "Oof, those amulets are bad news. Sounds like we have our work cut out for us, but at least we have some experience dealing with them. Thank you for the offer to host us, Chesmu, but I think the Inn might be more comfortable for all, and we have imposed on you enough."
Once we take our leave of Chesmu, Rolth suggests that we spend a little time strategizing at the Inn before we turn in for the night. That way folks can make good choices about spells and the like in the morning before we set off. "In particular, we need to think about how to deal with the clanfolk if the amulets make them turn on us. How do we protect ourselves without killing them, as we promised. I can fascinate a pair of them at a time, so that might help if we can peel off one or two key folks. A couple of us can probably outrun them as well, if the need arises for speed. What other ideas do you have for breaking their enchantment or otherwise keeping them and us from harm?"

I suppose if we have trouble finding them we could use our own amulet to try to get into whatever group is forming

Kiwina can't answer this question, which is mostly wishful thinking, but perhaps Elyas can. It might be nicer to deal with a power behind the amulets than with all of their victims. . .
Kiwina considers Rolth's recommendation. "So, spells to capture folks or gather information rather than spells to hurt folks? Sadly, I think the invisibility potions* we've picked up along the way are back on the ship -- I'm certainly not carrying one." Not that Kiwina would be silent enough to sneak around even if he were invisible.
He checks out the inn before deeming it worthy for the night, and is no longer worried about occupying someone's home while they're away.

Chesmu nods, and allows you to go on your way. The Inn itself is dusty and somewhat unclean, but not uncomfortable. A little brushing, a little wiping down and everything is good again. The beds are fairly soft if a little dirty still, and the hearth is easily coaxed back to life in the main room. The ale is on tap and still able to flow freely if you so choose.
Eventually, you all turn in and go to sleep, and are awoken in the morning by Chesmu in the main room putting on some tea. He looks a little at odds and unhappy to be away from home.
"Morning you sleepy heads. How are you? Heading off today to the coast I take it?"
He doesn't wait for an answer as he pours tea for each of you.
"Chitto said to give this to you, it's a healing salve she made when she was still alive. I've been keeping it for... well... long enough. I'll try and answer any last questions you may have before you go... but I'm not as big a help as Chitto..."

Mak greeted Chesmu warmly and poured himself a morning ale, for medicinal purposes, of course. He said as he settled in and packed away a hearty breakfast. Afterwards he worked at getting some spirits into his flask and some ale into his water skin. "For later, my beans." he assured the group. "In case my leg acts up, you know."
Then like any good soldier he started to clean and oil his gear as he waited on the others to get ready. As he did so he did a quick inventory of his items and arranged a few things for easy access.
He then started to ponder how he could bring along some of that ale by the cask. When Tsak arrived he asked quietly. "Think Kiwina would let us strap a cask to his back? He's horse...like."

"As far as I know yes... the clan had only select people with the amulets, at least last time I came into town before they all left. But that was probably a week or two before they left, so they could have gotten more. But like all things people covet, they found their way into the hands of those in power."
He sighs heavily and sadly.
"As for leaders, well there's a few prominent families, but like most Clans we're not a huge group of people... there is a couple of shamans, who may be able to help, assuming they're all still in good enough health..."

Hopefully our skilled trackers can find the trail easily, it can't be that hard given the movement of so many large creatures.

You head out on your journey, the walk is comfortable enough, and it's nice to be moving again, especially towards the coast. However after a few hours of walking, you see in the distance, on the path you're travelling a fleshy lump, you cannot make it out clearly from here. But it looks like it maybe a liontaur...
As you notice it, you become more aware, and the smell of death invades your nostrils, sweet and sickly, and all too familiar. You cannot make out what may have killed this person, as they are too far away, but they body has just been left there, there doesn't appear to have been any carrion feeders eating it...
