Scene 2: Trip to North Liontaur Island

Ships Ahoy and East
Monday August 6th, 2018 9:02:28 PM

With all the preparations the Rose is ready to head out. Ramsey, like he promised, set the Rose beside Crab beach. The crabs crawled from the water in a battalion of six-legged red tanks.
The Petals find that the fastest route is East around the island. Pym is a day and a half trip by boat.
A small crew on the dock unmoored the lines and Ramsey asked for help to unfurl the sails. Once unfurled Ramsey turned to sails to catch the wind. The Rose backed up till it hit a current. The Roses crew worked to make the ship turn and they were on the way.
To the right was the coast of Chessford. Once passed Chessford the beach disappeared and was replaced by cliffs that rose into the sky.
(Finnian) Highlight to display spoiler: { Finnian find the cliffs familier. The name, what is the name of the cliffs? (DM thinking..lol) The Thunder Rock Cliffs. The height and odd shapes of the cliff crags is known to reflect the wind as thunder. With really good perception you are able to make out several taurs standing at the highest point. }
Half a day has passed. How do you spend your time on the boat?
Everyone take 400 XP for the scene

Kiwina (Steve M) (51/51 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:18) | HeP: 4 | Status: None  d20+10=18 ; d20+10=18 ;

Kiwina worries about how the Rose will take to the water, even though the party has inspected her thoroughly and pronounced hef seaworthy. This is still (as far as he knows) her maiden voyage on the sea, and he has to fuss and make sure she handles it well. When he's not checking on the ship, he's checking their position, assesseing her speed compared to other ships of comparable size, and looking for dangers in the water to avoid. (Rolls: sailor = 18, perception = 18)

Rolth Niheow (BatMark) (36/36 HP | AC: 14; Touch: 11; CMD: 19) | Glaive +7 1d10+6 x3 | Paws (2) +5 1d4+2 x2| Status: None  d20+8=11 ;

Rolth will spend most of his time helping to sail the ship. (Profession Sailor = 11) He will spend his down time examining the Sargrass tapestry that we gained in our last adventure. He hums an old liontaur tune about roaming the plains as he looks it over.

Home, home on the plains,
Where the wolves and the driders do range,
Where ever is heard, poetic encouraging words,
And the Eight Petaled Rose wins the day.

(Detect Magic)

Wait, is that a glowing aura he detects? He leans in for a closer look...

Tsak, taking a leaf from Falco's book, rises early and meditates on communicating more with Esmerelda.
Afterwards he does what he can to help keep the Rose afloat and moving in the right direction aka sailoring.

Just before the boat sets out Falco thinks of the new power, the three that that ended the fight with the Sarr. He doesn't exactly prey but does ask that they watch over the vessel on the journey.

Once underway he climbs to one of the higher points on the ship and does his best to keep a lookout. {perception: 18}

Nothing in life has made me think a simple journey will be simple or safe. Best keep my eyes open.

Gothruk seeing that others have taken up the reins and that he'd probably just be in the way if he tried to help keeps up with his training. He feels like he's markedly improved since he first joined the petals.

He goes along the boat practising forward kicks, kicks that come from the side, from above. Jabs, heavier follow-through punches, uppercuts, different combinations in quick succession. Practising his ballence on the ship as it rocks through the waves.

Elyas brings his books out on to the top deck, spending some time pouring over his spells and planning, but enjoying the open air and the sea while he works. He watches the other petals, feeling a strange sense of belonging here.

He practices some simple fire spells, careful not to actually use their full power as he knows the dangers of fire on a boat, but also preparing to fight the brambles with an effective weapon.

Those are the... Uh... Thunder Rock Cliffs. I've heard the wind sounds like thunder around here. I think. Finnigan relays his knowledge to the group. With his keen eyes he points out some Taurus along the ridge. "Best keep an eye on them. See if they're just looking or shadowing us. I'll be in the crows nest if you need me." Finnian grabs a quiver and a quiver of sticks and, forgoing the rigging, climbs the mast like the trunk of a tree.
[Climb=26,Natural 20]

Once up there he sets in for the long haul and widdles away at the sticks.

He casts Alert if he spots anything but probably doesn't... [perception=14 Natural 1]

Maiden Voyage (DM John)

Rolth bursts into song then examines the tapestry for auras. Rolth Highlight to display spoiler: {. You do in fact detect a moderate magical aura. A Knowledge Arcana DC21 to discern school of magic. You also see that this is very finely and cleverly woven. Some of the effect is natural, but appears to be enhanced by magic.}

Kiwina worries about how the Rose will take to the water, even though the party has inspected her thoroughly and pronounced her seaworthy.

And the Rose is soon put to the test.

The weather started getting rough.
The Petals ship was tossed.
If not for the courage of the fearless crew, the Rose, she would be lost.

Kiwina and the others, taking advantage of the advance warning providing by the watchful Falco and Finnian successfully crew the ship through the surprise squall that commonly appears in these waters. Although everyone is completely soaked in the sudden, but short lived downpour, no one is the worse for the experience.

Tsak gets to know his new friend. When the squall hits, Esmeralda, though a cat, seems to be quite unperturbed by being drenched.

Gothruk maintains his fighting form and works on his sea legs.

Elyas prepares to fight with fire.

The rest of the trip to Pym is uneventful. As they approach the coastal town, it is as if Elyas action were somehow prophetic, for there appears to be smoke coming from the settlement. Lots of it

(Perception vs spoiler=27, Profession: Sailor=13 to know the attributes of a long-ship)
Tsak is able to perceive the shape of a ship in the harbor. It looks like a long-ship.
I agree, caution is advised, but the villagers may already be in need of our assistance. There is a war-ship in the harbor and it looks mighty suspicious. It seems our 3 hour tour is at an end. Luckily I believe those ships are more likely to be used as troop transports rather than carrying cannons, so the Rose should be safe. Although she will be quite fast and we may not be able to catch her if she spies us early.

"Thunder Cliff? If liontaur live there they would be the Thunder Cats? Great name really."

Falco is in a good mode despite the sudden storm. The fact that he spotted it even gave him a feeling of being useful on a boat for the first time. This quickly sours when the smoke is spotted and the others speak.

"Could this have to do with the witch and the brambles? Brambles come in and the other taurs are reacting poorly?"

As they near the coast, he also spies the longship in the harbor and what looks to be attackers setting fires. "We must go to the assistance of the villagers! A couple of us could board the ship while there's no one aboard and sabotage the anchor so it can't be raised or detached easily. The others go into the town and find out if there's anyone in need of saving. Though I don't understand why brambles would be
torching things since they're so susceptible to flames themselves? Perhaps it is the tribes using fires to keep brambles at away?

This takes a minute, so if there is no time, he will skip it. If the spirits say not to take the ship, he will suggest going directly to the aid of the villagers. Pym (DM John)
Thursday August 9th, 2018 8:54:22 PM

Pym is a small fishing village located directly on the coast. There is a bit of an inlet here so that the coast line actually borders the southern edge of the village. To the west is a rock outcropping upon which a tower rests. From its rundown appearance, it seems to not have been in use for some time. The houses are taur sized of beam construction with plank roofs. A few of the larger buildings are surrounded by unmortared stone fences which appear to be more for confining animals than for defining property boundaries.

There are three piers each with small craft moored to them or along the piers lining the shore. [Note that the large boat shown in the drawing on the left side is not actually present.] On the middle pier is a longship. Its single mast is unfurled and two medium sized humanoids stand on the deck. Perception DC 25 Highlight to display spoiler: { One seems to be dressed well. The other is attired like a typical ruffian.}

Among the buildings are three separate bonfires. These bonfires are being fed by mino-liontaurs who are dismantling the houses to fuel them. Perception DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: {They seem to be being forced to do so by armed medium sized humanoids.}

Running among the house are several people (medium size) who seem to be grabbing valuables and throwing them into sacks in the packed paths that serve as roads. Also, along these paths are several large corpses can be seen.

It appears the Petals have arrived near the end of a brutal raid.

Sable moves toward the longboat in order to try and immobilize it. [OOC: Tell me how you get there and what you do about the two guards on it.]

Rolth casts Toros Taur Try on each Petal. He then takes a look at the longship, seeing that there are two medium sized creatures on it. One dressed fairly well; the other like a thug.

Ships move slowly giving Kiwina time to consult with the aumakua. Kiwina Highlight to display spoiler: { the spirits reply seems hazy at this time.}

Tsak explains to Ramsey the plan to immobilise the war-ship and anyone on it before attending to those who appear to be attacking the village and instructs Ramsey to stay on the Rose and try to keep her out of danger once the petals have disembarked.

Ramsey gulps at the responsibility then nods agreement and understanding.

Once the Petal has come within range, Tsak is ready to stealthily approach the ship and makes it to the rudder, but does not see any way to disable it.

Elyas looks at the ship in the harbor and tries to think what options they have for disabling it quickly. He comes up with several: foul the mast, disable the rudder (though doing so could be compensated for with oars), cut it loose and float it away, breach its hull (though hard to do), set it on fire.

Falco suggests casting glitterdust on the ship guards and stealthily approaches the long ship.

Finnian calls out what he sees and descends from his perch.

[Ahh, the challenges of PbP:
Choices as the DMs see it:
1. Run the Rose near the longship and hope the two on board are distracted enough not to notice (this is a Profession Sailing check);
2. Stop the Rose offshore and swim to the longship;
3. Approach the shore (there were sufficient Sailor checks to do so safely) and approach the longship along the shore from the watchtower (west) side;
4. Approach the shore (there were sufficient Sailor checks to do so safely) and approach the longship along the shore from the east side;or
5. Something else.

Pick one, either by posting or email, and we will take up from there.]

Kiwina tries to bring the Rose alongside the warship. Tsak and Gothruk step in to help and she is quietly brought alongside the moored warship. On board are two men, one dressed in a cloak and nice leather boots, but without any apparent armor and armed with only a dagger and a crossbow hanging from his belt; the other wears leather armor and is equipped with a shortbow bow and hand axe. As you near, it becomes obvious that both are half orcs. Obviously here to guard the ship they appear to be more interested in watching the shore, neglecting any threat from the sea! You approach without being detected.

[OOC: The Rose is at the longship. What next? Need another Profession Sailor check to stop her. Note that something will have to stop her. It can be mooring lines, oars, the longship, the pier, or the shore. Of course, those last three might cause damage.]

When the Rose gets close, Rolth makes a spectacular leap, landing next to the better dressed of the unsuspecting guards. Dressed in a fine cloak and soft leather boots, he appears to be not wearing armor and armed with only a dagger and crossbow. As he looks up in surprise Rolth, sees the man's tusk lined mouth open in the shape of an oh. Rolth can take a charge attack vs flat-footed AC 11.

Sable takes a careful look as they approach. Sable Highlight to display spoiler: {. You see two standing watch on the longship. They are both clearly half-orcs. One wears no armor, but has better clothing and appears only armed with a light crossbow and a dagger at his hip. Also (with that roll) you note he has a pouch on his belt you commonly see used to store spell components. The other guard is wearing leather armor, a handaxe, and shortbow and quiver. The pier the longship is moored to is about 100 long and 20 wide. The bow of the longship is about 20 feet from shore. About 20 feet from the pier are two half-orc warriors wearing chain shirts carrying what appears to be a blanket filled with loot. They notice the Petals about the time you assault the longship, dropping there burden and running forward, drawing greataxes.}

Falco stands ready on the bow, prepared to cast glitterdust if spotted. Amazingly it proves unnecessary as the two watchmen, are paying too much attention to shore.

Elyas prepares his crossbow and casts shield on himself. OOC: Elyas gets a surprise round shot at either target.

Tsak, having successfully brought in the Rose, heads toward the two half-orc watchmen. Esmeralda follows along.

Gothruk informs the others of what is happening on shore and proposes taking the longship quickly to use in bargaining with the marauders.

Finnian finishes climbing down and is ready to board the ship.

Rolth leaps to the moored longship before the Rose closes in and lands a bone crunching blow with his morningstar on the well dressed half-orc. He then shreds his foe with three of four claws. "Greetings from the Eight Petaled Rose!" he exclaims as the half-orc falls lifelessly to the deck.

Kiwina expertly brings the Rose alongside the longship, and with Gothruks able assistance is able to tie her off to their prey. Gothruk then stands ready with his polearm.

Elyas and Finnian, both perceiving Rolths target is a spellcaster, take careful aim and bury bolt and arrows into the caster even as Rolth eviscerates him.

Falco loads his crossbow and keeps his eye on the likely spellcaster to see him slain by Rolth and Elyas.

Tsak draws his sword and attacks the 'other' half-orc. He draws blood and is taken by surprise when Esmerelda flies past him and also attempts to take a chunk out of his opponent. The kitten completely mis-times her spring, however, and makes no contact with the stranger.

Sable calls out, Watch out for the two warriors approaching the boat, but definitely take out the spellcaster you are working on Rolth. Elyas takes a long shot at the marauder on the left, but it, too, fails to penetrate the marauderfs armor.

Filled with the thrill of battle, Finnian strikes the unengaged marauder twice, fatally wounded him.

Gothruk jumps down to the captured boat and realizes that, given the longships low draft, that there are no need for ramps or planks as the top of the gunwale is about the level as the pier. Getting from the longship to the Rose, however, is a bit trickier. Fortunately, she is fitted with boarding nets exactly for this purpose. Although on the Plain these allowed for access to the ground rather than another ship.

Sable takes two shots with his bow. The first one bounces harmlessly off one half-orcfs mail while the other passes about a foot to his left, landed in the dirt beyond him.

When Rolth attacks his intended target, the half-orc realizes flight is impossible and takes a stand. He lands a mighty two handed swing of his greataxe deeply into the liontaur's flank. RolthTakes 12 points of damage!

Fatally wounded by Sable the other half-orc raises his axe in defiance, a gleam of shear hatred in his eye. Defiantly he staggers toward Rolth, driving his dying body beyond normal endurance. Having moved within reach of the barbarian , the marauder draws his weapon back for a mighty blow, but his body fails him before he can drive it down and he collapses at Rolth's feet.

The remaining half-orc continues to shout, obviously calling for his allies.

I say we push forward into the houses where we can ambush them or attack smaller groups before they mobilise or retreat back to the boat. Though making a stand on the pier will limit the amount that can get to close to us, these are raiders, it seems likely they'll have bows for hunting and they can use the houses for cover while we'd have none on the pier.

Pym: Round 2 (DM John)
Wednesday August 15th, 2018 9:07:27 PM

A brief description of the layout:

Pym is built up next to the shore. A dock lined seawall borders the southern edge of the village. Three piers jut out from this dock into the water. The Rose is moored against a longship, that is itself moored to the west side of the center pier.

A row of buildings, mainly houses, are set back about thirty-five feet from the water. Beyond that is another row of houses. Beyond that are a several larger buidings each with a stacked stone fence.

The row of houses nearest the waters edge from left to right (west to east) are spaced as follows. A smaller dwelling, three larger dwellings, a lane about thirty feet wide, two buildings, a twenty-five feet wide lane, then three more buildings.

The thirty feet wide lane is directly lined up with the pier that the Petals are currently on. For reference, let us call it Middle Lane.

There are three bonfires being tended by taur residences with half-orc marauders directing them. The nearest bonfire is beyond the first row of houses to the right (east) of Middle Lane. You see the smoke and the light, but do not have a direct line of sight from the center pier.

The next closest fire is near the dock to the left of the leftmost pier (to the west). It is clearly visible from the middle pier as it is one the clear ground near the dock.

A third fire is farthest away. It is in the yard of one of the larger buildings in the second row of houses. It is just a little left (west) of Middle Lane. As for the closest bonfire, you see only smoke and light, but not the fire itself for it is obstructed by two rows of buildings.

Rolth withdraws and takes a stand on the pier.

Falco reloads and moves onto the pier as well.

Kiwina does some quick estimating and determines there were about twenty crew on the longship and passes this information along to the others.

Tsak moves closer and hits the standing half-orc with an arrow.

While the others are withdrawing to the pier, Gothruk proposes moving into the line of houses to set up ambushes and make use of cover.

Elyas endorses Gothruks proposal and climbs down into the longboat. [OOC: DC for climbing a knotted rope is 5, so Elyas made it.]

Finnian fires another arrow, severely wounding but not killing the half orc on the shore.

The lone surviving marauder from your initial contact runs screaming up Middle Lane veering to the west side of the lane where he disappears from view.

Rolth will move aboard the longship and cut its rudder free. He will either throw it into the Rose, or let it fall into the water if the former option is not possible. He will suggest that the others toss all the longboat's oars on board the Rose, then direct Ramsey to anchor the Rose safely offshore a little bit, but remain where he can see us and sail in if we signal for him. Then we'll be ready to do as brave Falco suggests!

We should try not to be seen until we can overwhelm smaller groups. We do not want the villages being used as hostages...
Fighting near the bonfires should hide the sound, they seem to be converging around them anyway. Perhaps we could also arm the villages, if we get enough free and armed then remaining bandits might flee without fight.

Thursday August 16th, 2018 9:25:25 PM

Sling ready, Kiwina makes an observation post of the high ground provided by the Rose.

Falco propose a more offensive tactic and starts heading toward the village.

Rolth leads the effort to strip the longship of oars and rudder with Sable pitching in.

Aye, aye, Captain? responds Ramsey, giving a puzzled look between Kiwina and Rolth. The bramble then steps to, following Rolths instructions.

Tsak stands ready to attack should anyone approach.

Elyas reloads his crossbow and moves on to the pier from the longboat, watching for the group of marauders that is sure to come now that one got away.

Gothruk moves alongside Falco, his Guisarme at the ready. He warns against creating a hostage situation and advises focusing on the bonfires and arming the the villagers.

Finnian joins Falco and urges everyone to hurry.

You see someone run across Middle Lane, going from where the wounded marauder ran to the direction of the east bonfire. The running is shouting as he heads that way. It seems the alarm has been raised!

Battle for Pym: Round 4 (DM John)  d20+1=10 ; d20+1=18 ; d20+1=7 ;

Stowage of oars and tiller done, Rolth dusts his hands off and takes a look around. Seeing nothing of immediate interest, he moves back down onto the pier taking advantage of his speed to get back in front of some of the more vulnerable Petals, than stands ready to attack anything that approaches.

Kiwina helps bring the marauders' oars onboard the Rose, then helps Ramsey unmoor from the longship before climbing down to join his friends.

Observant Sable alerts the others, There are four figures using the houses as cover, armed with javelins and greataxes - in the shadows. As he says this, he takes careful aim into the shadows. He is rewarded by the sound of a scream of pain and the sight of one of the hiding foes crumpling to the ground.

At the sight of Sables attack, Falco calls out, "Fortune favors the bold my friends. Move fast to follow those arrow!" As he advances he casts glitterdust at the hiding foes. He hears gasps of outrage as his spell affects his targets.

Illuminated by the spell, you can see that one is clearly dressed as a leader, another appears to be the one who you previously encounter at the waterline, a third one standing, and a fourth one lying dead, having been slain by Sables arrow. The captain and the unwounded one both appear to have been blinded by Falcos spell.

Elyas casts a protective aura around on the nearby Petals.

Gothruk moves forward to protect his allies, ready to defend against incoming javelins.

Tsak Takes fires an arrow at the foes around the bonfire to the west. Despite the distance, he manages to score a hit on one. The marauders immediately start looking fro cover. Tsak thinks he may have slowed their approach a bit.

Finnian heals Rolth and encourages him to be careful.

The group of foes around the captain, three total now, are completely disrupted by Falcos spell. The group coming from the west, having received fire from Tsak, takes a more cautious approach and takes cover along the buildings on the west edge of the waterside row of houses. The group on the east side, however, continues their rush toward the pier. Shouting menacingly, brandishing javelins with greataxes held ready in their off hands,they are almost to the pier that the Petals are on. At this point they are about 40 feet from the leading rank of Petals. There are six of them.

Rolth gets angry as he waits for Gothuk and Tsak to make a path, then makes a mighty leap over the water on the way to charge to Captain. All the ground around and beneath the buildings is mostly rock. Even after a rain, the path would be fairly passable. There are occasional tufts of weeds, a tribute to natures relentlessness, but nothing in the way of lawn or verge.

Kiwina fires at the nearest group, hoping they will also run for cover. He hits one solidly with his sling bullet, but apparently mob rule is keeping the group running forward.

Rolth gets angry as he waits for Gothuk and Tsak to make a path, then makes a mighty leap over the water on the way to charge to Captain. When he closes on the Captain, he makes a savage series of attacks.

Despite the grievous wounds the captain blindly lashes back at the raging liontaur. Despite his handicap, the captain manages to deeply slice Rolth with his greataxe. A look of vicious satisfaction on his face, the half orc collapses, dead at the barbarians feet. [Rolth takes 14 points of damage!]

The seeing marauder next to the captain starts to run after seeing his leader shredded, but Finnian slays him in his tracks, both arrows biting deep.

Targets are falling in the space between the two targets. Sable buries an arrow deep in the remaining marauder. Blinded and severely wounded he still manages to find his way into the next row of houses.

Tsaks focus is on the group closing in from the east. He buries an quarrel into the charging marauder struck by Kiwinas stone.

Falco, content with his disruption of the group with the captain, focuses on the group charging from the east side. He hits one with an acid dart and is rewarded with a roar of sheer fury.

Elyas enhances his crossbow.

Gothruk moves up and finishes off the stoned and bolted marauder. Despite the fatal wounds, the half orc charges the minotaur, a look of total defiance on his pain contorted face. [Take an AoO vs AC 13. If it hits, the half orc is slain without being able to finish its orc ferocity action. This action will inflict 8 points of damage on Gothruk if it lands.
Please take all three of Gothruks AoOs vs AC 13.]

Two of the marauders charge Gothruk (M6 and M7, all subject to AoOs, AC13) [Unless they are dropped to -13 hp, the first one does 11 points of damage, the second does 5 hp to Gothruk.]

Another marauder (also provoking from Gothruk) runs past to engage Tsak. He swings his mighty greataxe (hit AC 26 for 7 points of damage against Tsak.

The raiders on the west side back away and disappear from view.

Behind the group on the east, three villagers, obviously emboldened by their rescuers, charge from between the buildings swinging giant planks of wood at the half-orcs in the rear of that group. One connects solidly, the sound of the impact clearly audible even over all the other battle sounds. Despite the fatal wound, the half orc manages to drive its axe into his nemesis before collapsing dead. Though deep, this wound does not appear to be fatal. Another turns to defend against this new threat. It appears the marauders are unaccustomed to their victims having any fight in them.

[Last round Gothruk killed M5 before he could get his ferocity attack and drops M7 to 0 hp.]

Kiwina leaves the longship to get closer to the fighting.

Tsak responds to the half orcs attack with a point blank arrow. He is rewarded with a gout of blood and a cry of pain from his attacker. Esmerelda darts out, but again the young animal's timing is off and she causes no harm. Attacking with his bow in melee range, the half orc takes the opening presened, hitting the ranger with his axe, before collapsing from blood loss. [Tsak hit AC 23, take 6 points of damage.]

Rolth charges the bandit on Gothruk, coming to the aid of his bold friend who interposed himself between the Petals and the advancing marauders. In a flurry of weapon, paws and teeth, the half-orc is completely destroyed. So utterly complete is the damage, that no amount of ferociousness can activate his broken body.

Falco moves forward so he can have a clear line of sight around his bigger companions while trying to stay out of the way. Launching a small ball of acid at one of the attackers he is distracted by the railing of the townsfolk. "There fighting back, lets hope they don't get themselves killed!" he cries urging his allies on.

Elyas fires his enhanced crossbow at the closest marauder on the docks, but his aim is off. cursing under his breath he reloads as quickly as possible

Finnian fires two arrows into melee but is unable to cause any damage.

As Gothruk takes two wounds across his large body he bellows a curse. Seeing one immediately fall under the claws of Rolth he attempts to punch the other unconscious, but due to bad luck or distraction, he misses both blows.

The marauder (M7) hit by Gothruk, when charging last round, takes one last swing before his body gives out. [miss with 13 to hit]

The remaining marauder is pummeled by the three villagers, but nothing gets through his guard or armor. He, however, draws blood as he connects with his greataxe. (villager 2 takes 10 points damage and staggers back.)

Three villagers from the west come forward cautiously to see what is happening. They remain abou one hundred feet from the main combat.

There are only two remaining marauders at the shore.

All other marauders are hidden from view. The last ones were seen heading in the direction of the center bonfire along Middle Lane, farthest from the shore.

Our babies! cries the villager who delivered the fatal whack to one of the raiders. You realize this is female minotaur and likely a mother. They have taken our children as hostage in the Meeting Hall. As she says the last, she points in the direction of the middle bonfire. Over the two rows of houses you can see the larger building illuminated by a fire that is currently hidden from your view by houses.
Blood still flows from a deep gash on her left flank, but she seems unaware of it.

And they have some abomination that drains your very soul with them, says the unwounded one, a male liontaur.

The third one, a male minotaur looks wildly around, clearly expecting an attack at any moment. He sports a messy gash on his thigh, his breeches soaked black with blood.

The three villagers, a minotaur and two liontaurs, continue to approach from the west. The nearest one of them is about eighty feet from Gothruk still.

You hear angry shouting from the area around the center bonfire, but cannot see what is happening.

"The Eight Petaled Rose is on the job, and we will do our best to save the children and defeat these foes!" Rolth says encouragingly to the villagers.

The Eight Petaled Rose! exclaims the lady minotaur. You won the Taurnament. There is hope afterall!

The liontaur next to her scowls, Taurrrnaments aint raiders, Marge, scowls the liontaur next to her. Marge promptly slaps the top of his head. Tell that to them, she replies pointing to the dead raiders along the shore.

After some needed healing, Rolth joins the stealthy group moving toward the main hall.

Kiwina proposes being a diversion and openly moves along the waterside away from the others. Sable joins him.

Finnian stows the wand and nocks an arrow "are we ready to head to where the children are," he asks in a hurry to rescue them before something even worse happens to them.

"I don't know what the creature you describe might be, but whatever it is we will fight it to save your children! hopefully it doesn't like fire, says Elyas as he prepares to move with the others.

Gothruk moves toward the meeting hall with the stealthy group.

The Petals except for Kiwina and Sable stealthily move up middle lane, staying close to the buildings for cover. As they get to the second row of houses and peek around the corner, Rolth can see that a group of half-orcs is milling around the entrance to the Meeting Hall. It turns out the Meeting Hall is only slightly larger than the houses, about 25 wide by 40 long. It also is made of wood plank walls and roofs as are the other buildings. Around the building is a low fence of unmortared stones standing about five feet hall, probably more for use as a corral than as a boundary or defense.

In front of the opening to the fence is one of the bonfires. There no longer appear to be any villagers tending it. You speculate they may have run off when the fighting started.
There are, however, five half-orcs standing in front of the fire. They are about ten feet in front of it, likely still uncomfortable from its heat, and looking in towards the shore line. They do not appear to have noticed your approach. The crackling and roar of the bonfire likely interferes with their hearing and despite the daylight, the light from the fire will cast a bit of the shadow from the building on the Petals approach.

About an equal distance behind the fire you see the creature described as a walking corpse along with two other half orcs. Sense Motive 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {It appears the two raiders are trying to keep their distance from the creature and not too thrilled with their post next to it.}

Marges description about the creature was accurate. Its features are well illuminated by the bonfire before it. You can see the near fleshless skin, the pallor of death upon it, but the red glow from its eye sockets clearly reveal its evil nature.

Single roll. Higher score reveals additional information.
DC 13 Knowledge Religion Highlight to display spoiler: { This is a wight! Wights are humanoids who rise as undead due to necromancy, a violent death, or an extremely malevolent personality. Their flesh is twisted by evil and undeath, their eyes burn with hatred, and their teeth are beast-like. }

Kiwina (Steve M) (51/51 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:18) | HeP: 4 | Status: None
Saturday August 25th, 2018 2:30:53 PM

Kiwina continues to move at his normal pace. How much noise his hooves make depends on the road, but he doesn't want to be too obvious about making noise. This may leave Sable a little behind, but not far behind.

Kiwina intends to move around the roads until he would be on the road in front of the hall that is perpendicular to the one the main party is on.

(OOC: I have marked the map with a bunch of red dots in the rough area he is headed for (mostly because I thought I would select the blue circle to change its color) but I have only moved Kiwina 1 round's worth.

Tsak moves quietly along with the rest of the group. He had thought about using Esmerelda as a distraction, but the Centaur was a step ahead of him. He's hoping the five orcs near the fire will take the bait and chase Kiwina and Sable, if that happens then Tsak plans to attack the creature from the eastern side behind the fence.

Rolth will hunker down to wait on the distraction from Kiwina and Sable, taking a moment to spy on the mysterious undead thing--which remains a mystery--and take a more general look around for any sight or sound of the children, or new threats. (Sense Motive = 8; Perception = 19; Knowledge Religion = 4)

If the orcs outside get drawn away, he will advance through the gate to attack, waiting for covering fire from the other Petals over the wall to the east.

Battle for Pym: Rounds 14 and 15 (DM John)
Monday August 27th, 2018 9:15:56 PM

[OOC: Note that two rounds have elapsed to allow Kiwina to get in sight of the Meeting Hall. This especially applies to Finnian who will have an additional round to climb (if he desires) before the next round--in other rounds he can climb for the second round of last post and this post. Others may take an additional round of non-combat action as well.]

Tsak moves quietly along with the rest of the group, keeping Esmerelda with him. He waits to see if the orcs take Kiwinas bait, planning to attack the easternmost guard in the yard.

Elyas follows behind slightly, loading another bolt. He will hold his fire until everyone is ready.

Rolth waits on the diversion, reading to run through the gate should it work.

Finnian looks past the half orcs around the fire to the ones nearest undead abomination. "looks like they don't want to go near that thing" Finnian whispers. He attempts to climb the wall. He barely makes any progress before falling to the ground. [OOC: normally falling would require a DC 15 Acrobatics check avoid falling prone, but not necessary since we are not precisely in rounds at this point. You can always retry. DC 15 to climb these walls as they are very roughly made with lots of cracks to get a foot or hand in. Fail by 5 or more and you fall.]

Falco stands ready to cast glitterdust when the right time comes.

Gothruk wait quietly.

Kiwina continues to move at his normal pace, taking no measures to be quiet. Sable jogs alongside him. He takes a circuitous route to come up on the west of the meeting hall.

One of the half orcs cries out, [If you understand orc, Highlight to display spoiler: {There they are!} pointing at Kiwina and Sable.

[If you understand orc, Highlight to display spoiler: {Hey! Theres only two of them!}

They gather in a loose line facing Kiwina and Sable. This puts them in a ragged line perpendicular to the five foot high stone fence and slightly to the west of the gate entrance (about 5 from the west edge of the gate.) They stand tense, javelins at the ready. Sense Motive 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {They look terrified, but unwilling to back down.}

The two in the yard stay where they are, but the undead thing moves toward the entrance to the hall watching the street warily, looking around and not just at the two Petals currently visible.

Rolth looks at the fearfully quaking orcs out in the street, and feels a little pity...but then remembers the children. He grimly gives Finnian a quiet boost up the side of the building to get a good sniping position, then readies to leap into the compound at the proper moment. He whispers his concern to the others that the evil thing is moving toward the children. "It is time to act, I think. I'm going in. How about some confuscatory spells like you suggested? But let's concentrate on our lethal blows on the evil thing and the others might break. Do it for the children." Rolth waits on any covering spells to land, then makes a leap over the wall into the compound.

(OOC: Per the earlier ideas from the casters, one glitterdust on the five (now in conveniently close order) would be most excellent. Maybe another on the boss and his closest minion to freeze them too? Time to get killy!)

Kiwina fires a sling bullet at one of the raiders, missing.
Sable also fires, also missing--twice.

One raider, apparently emboldened by the failed attacks, taunts, Is that all you got, Seabisket!

[b]And what about you, Fernando!
joins in another. They all chuckle at his joke. Kiwinas real objective has been achieved as they stand resolutely, javelins readied, all focus on the two Petals.

Finnian brushes himself off and makes a second attempt at climbing the side of the house, this time with greater effect thanks to the boost from Rolth. He swings his leg up over the lip and crouches low. Trying to stay as quiet as possible he creeps along the roof toward the direction of the line of orcs. He continues to creep forward and, keeping the roof between himself and the main line of orcs, draws his bow.

Tsak uses the cover provided by the buildings to take a position outside the wall on the east side of the building. He then instructs Esmeralda to guard their position.

Then all Petals break loose:

Falco nods as the half-orcs start to move. He takes a short step into the open and tosses a small amount of dust in their direction. As the glitter leaves his fingers an explosions of gold glitter encompases all of the half-orcs in front. All are covered in glittering light and the two in front shout out in dismay as they realize they cannot see.

Tsak rises from behind the wall and takes fire at the undead thing, piercing the creature in the arm. Instead of blood, a viscous block fluid oozes out of the wound.

Finnian neglects the bow and calls upon a power that he knows little about and in general detests, but his hatred of the undead is far worse than his hatred of fire. A ball of fire appears in his hand and he instantly flings it across the battlefield at the creature, striking the creature solidly in the chest. It howls in outrage and pain, its voice a terrorizing inhuman screech that reverberates before ending. [OOC: I assume this was produce flame. In the future include your prepared spells on your character and call them out in your post. That narration of the spell: very nice.]

Gothruk moves up to cover the movements of his fellow Petals as they cross the street, ready to attack anyone who closes.

Rolth heroically leaps the wall, landing near the easternmost guard in the wall.

The undead creature, singed and dripping ichor and way too close to a charging liontaur, rushes into the doorway slamming it shut behind him, the sound, an abrupt response to the Petals onslaught.

The half orc nearest Rolth quickly takes a look at the warrior, at the suddenly appeared Petals, and at the closed door. Enough. I was only doing my job. he states, tossing his greataxe to the ground.

It does not take the other half orc in the yard long to follow suit.

In the street, the raiders are a bit slower, but they, too, come to the same conclusion. The four with their sight drop their weapons. After a few harsh words to the blind ones, those also follow suit. The raiders to a man, have surrendered.

The undead creature, however, is inside the building...with the children!

Battle for Pym: Round 17 (DM John)   d20+6=17 ; d4+1=3 ; d20+2=4 ;
Wednesday August 29th, 2018 11:00:39 PM

The building is a simple rectangular structure 25 wide by 40 long. The walls are of large wood planks, as it the roof. [Although the Roll20 map shows a chimney, there is not one in this tropical clime.] The wall is fifteen feet high and the pitch of the roof is slight with the center gable only rising four feet at the peak. The door on the south end is eight feet wide and twelve feet tall, having a simple wood handle. There are two large windows on either of the long sides. The bottom of the opening is six feet above the ground and the top is twelve. Each window is twelve feet wide with an eight foot space between them. Each has a wood plank cover that is hinged at the top of each window. These covers have been dropped down, closing the window openings.

Tsak stows his bow and draws his falchion, moving to the back of the building. He shouts in orcish to the guards Is this the only entrance, or is there a back door?

Tsak Highlight to display spoiler: {Before he can hear their answer in the affirmative, he can see for himself that there is in fact a door on the back wall directly opposite the front door. It appears to be tied shut. [It will take one round to break or remove.]}

Rolth yells at the orcs to lie down and remain still, or suffer the consequences. Quickly surveying the options, he decides on the direct approach. Casting off all restraint, he lets his anger at the threatened children strengthen him and draws on his inner reserves. He bursts through the door, ripping it from its cloth hinges and breaking several of the planks that comprise it. Inside he discovers a startled creature trying to grab the nearest child, all of whom are covering from the undead thing in horror.

Rolth gets in before the thing can grab its prey!

Gothruk makes his way towards the building at top speed following Rolth in.

Sable runs toward the door, trading his bow for his greatsword. Making it to the yard behind Gothruk and Rolth.

Kiwina moves in, taking care of the surrendered foes and calls for the villagers to help restrain them.

Falco calls out to the half ors, "Wait for the villages and turn yourself in. You have been marked, even after the glitter fades we can find you. You did the right thing now finish it and redeem yourselves." [OOC: normally that would call for a bluff check, but the circumstance bonus would be high enough to succeed even on a one.]

Finnian takes a step up to the edge of the roof with his bow in one hand and ball of flame in the other.

Elyas moves up to cover the warriors as they prepare to enter the doorway. He has crossbow in hand, but is also thinking about what spells might work against this thing...

The marauders know when they have been beaten and submit to the Petals. Several of the villagers timidly approach at Kiwinas plea. Leading the way is Marge, her wound wrapped in blood-stained cloth. Dont be so bashful you lugs! The Petals did all the hard stuff! she shouts to her fellows as she approaches the nearest half orc.

Inside the building is mainly open. Long benches are pushed up against the wall. On the far wall is a closed door directly opposite the one Rolth demolished. Huddled up against that wall are twelve young taurs in variously degrees of fright, but of most immediate concern is the creature with the glowing red eyes.

In reaction to the sudden incursion of heroes, it charges the huddled children. Though it carries a battleaxe strapped to its back, the creature strikes with its taut-skinned claw-like hand. His victim, a minoliontaur about six years old, shrieks in terror and collapses to the ground as the creature strikes it. Rolth Gothruk, and Sable Highlight to display spoiler: {You see the child blanch at the creatures touch, its young body shivering before it collapses. Before your very eyes you see the wounds inflicted on the creature by fire and arrow partially heal.
Its red eyes seem to glow brighter for a moment.
}

Turning to face the rushing Petals, its face contorted in a vicious grimace, the creature spits out, Another step closer, and another loses its soul.

Battle for Pym: Round 18 (DM John)   d20+4=15 ; d4+1=3 ;
Thursday August 30th, 2018 10:20:51 PM

Kiwina keeps watch over the half-orcs and contemplates heading toward the rear of the building.

Tsak unties the back door and rushes in. He finds himself facing the back sides of two terrified taur children who were pressed against the closed door. They turn around both looking at him with startled and bewildered expressions clearly showing on their young faces.

Falco rushes in, offering to turn one of his allies invisible.

Gothruk speaks, Any words you bother to speak are just distractions, you are clearly an evil thing with no intention of letting anyone live. We will destroy you completely unless you can convince us otherwise! Then he heroically rushes in and
shoves the vile thing against the wall away from the children. With that roll, but constrained by the room, you can move him 10 away from the nearest child up against a wall.

In response, the creature lashes out at Gothruk, clawing him across the face. [Hits AC15 for 3 points of damage. Make a Fortitude DC 14 save or gain one negative level. Despite having reach, you still provoke with making a bullrush as any part of your body reaching into range does so.]

The creature is also treated as one level lower for the purpose of level-dependent variables (such as spellcasting) for each negative level possessed.}

Rolth charges in to attack before the thing can further menace the children easily closing with him now that the children are no longer in reach of it. The barbarian holds nothing back, tearing into it with weapon, claws, and fang.

Elyas takes aim at the wight with his crossbow and sends a bolt deep into its accursed chest.

Sable moves in to take a swing as well, cutting deeply into its rib cage.

As its torn and battered body drops to the floor, its glowing red eyes lose their light. Without further sound or expression, the creatures head rolls unnaturally to one side, its neck obviously broken.

A collective gasp escapes from the children in the room as they see their captor and tormentor destroyed before their eyes.

Silence ensues for but a moment before it is broken by a choked sob and a cry of Kater! One of the children rushes to the fallen child, grasping it in a desperate embrace. The little taur girls skin has paled and she lies motionless on the ground where she collapsed at the undead creatures vile blow.

The Petals have victory, but at what price?

Outside, unaware of the drama unfolding within the building, Kiwina wisely supervises the capture of the half-orcs.

Inside the building the Petals react to the aftermath of the battle.

Rolths rage ends abruptly, as he becomes aware of the cries of the children. He is distraught over Katers fate and regrets his inability to save her. Having time to reflect now, Rolth realizes this was a wight! He recalls that are humanoids who rise as undead due to necromancy, a violent death, or an extremely malevolent personality. Their flesh is twisted by evil and undeath, their eyes burn with hatred, and their teeth are beast-like. You have learned by experience that its touch drains the very life force from its victims.

Tsak puts his falchion away and checks on the little girl, but she doesnt look good. He worries about Gothruk, then begins to depart the building.

Gothruk endures the thing's touch, drawing on his deep meditation and spiritual monk power to avoid being pulled towards death. He begins to mourn the loss of the innocent child

Falco rushes to the fallen child to see if she is in fact dead, dropping to his knees beside her.

He checks for signs of life. Motionless and still, she lies on her back almost as if laid in estate. Her skin is pale and cold to the touch. Then...ever so slightly, her chest rises. Though shallowly and weakly, she is breathing. She is on the edge of death, but Kater has not yet left this world!

About the time that Falco has discovered this, the large female Minotaur, Marge, brushing past Tsak, bursts in, plank still in hand. When she sees the diminutive Falco over the girls motionless body, she screams, Whats wrong with my baby?

Quietly Falco whispers. "Warper-sar, let me be your vessel. Warp me as you must so that I may borrow your power. Children must be saved"

He lets out a stiffled moan and then throws his head back and arms out straight as the moan turns to a scream of pain as his body goes rigid and a wave of healing energy emanates out from his core. The energy baths all those present in healing energy knitting wounds closed. {Channel Positive: 5}

A rush of images passes though the mind of the young halfling. The final battle with the bloodgrass from many angles. The three aspects of the Sargrass rising to power. A beastfolk, shaped of a humanoid panda bear, with Nunchaku on his belt looks at Falco. "You will be the first it seems." He nods points at Falco a beam of green energy passing between the two.

Falco collapses, face down, his body shaking and warping as the others look on. His skin first takes on a brown color before before feathers, deep brown feathers begin to sprout. Over the next minute his body shifts and changes taking on an avian form but retaining its small stature. His breath shudders a few times before evening out as he rolls onto his back, large gold eyes blinking above a black beak. Last to form, last to change, two small wings also sprout from his back, tucked to his sides.

Changes by the power of the Warper-sar Falco now resembles a halfling sized owl beastman. His crossbow has lengthened into a bow and his robs have changed to chain shirt.

He smiles up towards the ceiling. "Did it work? Is the child ok?"

Battle for Pym: Epilogue Part Two (DM John)
Monday September 3rd, 2018 9:49:15 PM

Kiwina advises against unnecessarily harming the prisoners. He has questions and finds that he can ask them in common.

Sable quickly moves to apply a charge of the wand to the small child on the brink of death. As the power transfers to the child the wound inflicted by the wights claws close up, leaving only a faint line. Her eyes flicker open, then she gasps and attempts to scurry away from the large ranger before realizing he is attempting to help her. So weak, she murmurs softly before laying her head back on the floor.

Some color appears to have returned, but her give still retains some of its grayish pallor.

Tsak reassures the imposing maternal Marge, attempting, despite the size difference between he and the large minotaur, to give his allies the needed space to heal the child.

Elyas stays with the children, keeping them away from the dead bodies any potential unpleasantness with the prisoners.

He is relieved to find that, considering what they have just survived and witnessed, they are unharmed.

Rolth moves to comfort and calm Marge and Kater, breaking into a soothing song* as Sable applies some healing.

Marge ceases her struggle with Tsak and lets out a sigh of obvious relief. "Thank you", she faintly whispers as you see the tension drain from her shoulders.

The liontaur bard is rewarded with a faint smile from the injured child, a surprising calmness spreading across her still pale features.

Quietly Falco calls upon his new found powers.

The healing energy washes over those in the hall, including little Katar. The faint line, the only remainder of her wound after the healing by Sable, is completely removed now. The ashen hue of her skin, however, remains unchanged.

Falco, however, is dramatically altered by the forces he called upon. Changed by the power of the Warper-sar, Falco now resembles a halfling sized owl beastman. His crossbow has lengthened into a bow and his robes have changed to chain shirt.

Gothruk looks on in confused shock as his companion Falco baths the room in Holy energy and then grows wings and feathers.

When he sees that the child is not fully cured by the healing magic, he explains, When the creature attacked me, it tried to take a portion of my soul. I imagine just healing his body might not be enough and that we'll need a spell that can get back what was taken."

The wight is destroyed. The children are safe and little Kater is stabilized. Marge, despite her bulk, gently approaches the child. She murmurs thanks again to all of the Petals as she lifts her daughter and carries her out into the sunlight.

The prisoners seem to have accepted their defeat and put up no resistance. With one exception, to a man each is unwilling to answer Kiwinas questions.

Battle for Pym: Rogue Tusk's Tale (DM John)
Tuesday September 4th, 2018 11:01:01 PM

Sable senses there is much more to the story and checks out area. He notices no immediate threats or influence, but does realize that these raiders are fairly well equipped: their battleaxes are masterfully made and they have pouches typically used to hold potions.

Tsak too gets a strong sense that the prisoners are more afraid of something or someone else more than they are of the Petals. He finds the village head and discovers there isnt really one. Marge appears to be the closest thing to it, as the others tend to do whatever she says.

Elyas sees that the children are returned to their homes and rejoins the group.

Falco embraces his new form while Rolth puzzles over the transformation.

Rolth then advises Marge to seek clerical aid for Kater and keeps a careful eye out for additional threats.

Finnian keeps an eye out from his rooftop perch and calls out to the others.

Kiwina, realizing the half-orcs are too afraid of something to talk, decides to make them too afraid of him not to. The very large monk who single-handedly threw the terrifying wight across the lodge hall enhances Kiwinas attempt.

The centaur singles out one of the younger ones. It turns out his name is Rogue Tusk. Once motivated, he turns out to be quite informative.

"Why were you raiding these villagers? . . . We were hired by some lady who says that the hybrid taurs are an abomination. She paid very well and He hesitates before adding, She is not someone to say no to.

Where are you from? Im not really from anywhere, but the captain picked me up off the streets of Bonetown.

Why were you working with that corpse-like thing? He shudders at the mention of it, then replies, Capn, called him his insurance plan. Once Maldus [It turns out that was the creatures name in life] appeared and threatened to drain peoples souls, they would usually surrender. It worked with these taurs. They resisted at first, even killed a few of us, but once Maldus showed what he could do, they backed down.

When Carylns name is mentioned. Rogue Tusk blanches white. With a glare from both Kiwina and Gothruk, he reluctantly shares the following, Capn responded to a call for ruffians willing to clean out a village. He responded to the recruitment and arranged a meeting with our benefactor. Turns out it was this. He hesitates before continuing, Lady. The capn and four of us went ashore to discuss terms. They bartered for a bit, then the lady had some minotaurs dressed up like plants bring this cauldron up. She brewed something that smelled a bit like fresh cut hay mixed with garlic--I kid you not. Then asked us for a volunteer to drink it. She said that anyone who drank it would become strong as a tree with extra strength and power. My buddy, Gaden, volunteered. He was always the foolhardy one. He took a big gulp--the idiot. At first nothing happened, then his skin started crawlin like bugs were underneath it! He started screaming, then the lady started looking really worried.

She must have given some kind of signal, because before we knew it we were surrounded by these plant minotaur guys.

I watched Gaden twitch and writhe for what seemed like an eternity before the screaming finally stopped. His skin looked a lot like those taurs, but it was splotchy in spots, not all over like they were. It turns out they werent dressed like plants. They WERE plants. The potion made them transform, but for some reason it didnt work on Gaden.

By this time the lady had figured out how to handle the captain. She gave him some magic potions that really worked and some gold, and said there was more where that came from if he destroyed the village. It was not stated, but all of us knew, that if he turned her down, we would be getting that potion that Gaden had.

The plan was to destroy this village. After we finished burning our dead, we were going to set the whole village ablaze and go back to get our fee.

He shrugs, knowing there will be time to contemplate this later. He truns to Elyas and tries to smile but.. a beak is not so good for smiling/ Hopefully my eyes shows the smile at least. This is quite amazing.

He slowly approaches the raiders.

"Why burn the village? Your not looking for an item or anything?"

It's interesting to know that while she can create these plant-taurs, she might not be able to do it consistently, or maybe she's changing her spell trying to get different results.
Either way Rogue you're going to point out on a map where this happened and how we can get there. It seems you arrived by boat luckily we have one of our own.

The Petals notice a new-ish member of the Petals, or is he familiar? Falco is marveling at his new body. Falco spins in a circle first before testing the pull of his bow. He mumbles to himself.
"I had no idea I would change so much. I guess being able to use a bow is the least of things." he pauses for a moment and then says much louder "Warper-sar, you taught me to sail!?!?"
He shrugs, knowing there will be time to contemplate this later. He turns to Elyas and tries to smile but.. a beak is not so good for smiling/ Hopefully my eyes shows the smile at least. This is quite amazing.
He slowly approaches the raiders.

"Why burn the village? Your not looking for an item or anything?"

The rogue and the other raiders stare at the owl-like creature. Who are you? One of the raiders said with contempt. I dont recall you being anywhere near us. Are you part of this group?
Burn the village, we were instructed to destroy the village. There is no room for these imperfect creatures, the half orc said with little emotion.

Elyas watches Falco with some concerns but ultimately decides they need to move. Once the interrogation is over the villagers grab up the remaining raiders and forcefully take them away. We have no prison but there are somethings that we can do. We have some tasks, like cleaning the beaches and scrubbing the black off of rocks.
Responding to Rolth Ill be honest, says another villager. Im not on board with leaving the dead on a ship docked to the island. The dead smell rather fast and they could always return. I would prefer you allow us to bury them or burn them.
Rolth finds no magic surrounding the raiders.

Kiwina
After the interrogation, Kiwina catches up on what the other Petals were doing with the wight. "Hey, guys, what happened in there? Where's Falco, and who is this you've rescued -- doesn't look like a child."
He's not so keen on the burial at sea for these fellows, but turns his attention to the villagers and the prisoners. "Do you have some place to keep the prisoners? Maybe you can get some labor out of them if you care to."

Gothruk Gore

Rolth is fine with burning the raiders' bodies. Although keeping some of their cloaks for disguises might be useful. He will suggest a few more questions for the interrogators before we turn over the prisoners:

--How many taurs or other troops does Caryln have guarding her lair?
--What are the various ways in and out of her lair?
--What traps or other obstacles protect the lair?
--What is the layout of the lair, and where is Caryln typically found?

Once the prisoners are marched off by the locals, he will inquire of Marge or others, "We seek to root this witch out of her lair. We know we need to pass Kaga, moving through Ag territory. Do you have any advice on how to do so safely, or gain their permission? Are there any other hazards along the way that you know of?"

The notion of several of the party sneaking in with their cloaks is amusing, but others might pull it off. Looking over the gathered loot, Kiwina decides, "We should leave a share of any money with the villagers. If it didn't come from them in the first place, it can help them rebuild."

Rolth is fine with burning the raiders' bodies. Although keeping some of their cloaks for disguises might be useful. He will suggest a few more questions for the interrogators before we turn over the prisoners:

--How many taurs or other troops does Caryln have guarding her lair?
-- The lead raider blushes. There are at least a hundred brambles surrounding the... the village of Kaga North West of here.
What about the bramble fence? Tell them about the fence. Another raider offered but stopped quick with a scowl from the head raider.
She has spies everywhere. You just sealed or fate, idiot. After that outburst the half orcs stopped talking completely. They seemed frightened but said nothing.

The Ag clan is very territorial. They come around here very little but the last time they visited they were very irritated. Im sure with Carlyn taking over most of their territory thats a good reason
There is a castle in the center of Kaga, it belonged to a Liontaur Queen of Old. Theres an old witch on your way West of here. She lives in a tiny shed. A really tiny shed. Ask her for the ring of the Old Liontaur Queen. She may give you some trouble but shes harmless. Show this and explain you wish to defeat the Plant witch and they may help you.

Thinking ahead Tsak enquires of the captives how many half orcs are in the service of the witch, how they got there, passwords for re-entering her camp and anything else that might be useful should infiltration be a possibility.
The half orcs refuse to answer any more question.

The wight has upon its body a couple potions of light healing and a Masterwork Rapier. Whatever the creature was before is hard to tell. There is a hint of blond hair under a dark hood and a partial human nose. His clothes are from a era long past which indicate it was quite old.

"Who am I? Just another imperfect creature like you are, like we all are. If you were one of the ones that was blinded that was me, not that it matters at this point." he shrugs and turns away from the raider I don't think I will get more out of them then the more intimidating folks will.

After a quick search of the raiders ship you don't find any treasure but you do find a ships compass, tools and materials to make maps and a navigational map of the islands and even outside the islands. From the looks of the map the raiders have traveled a lot.

What you you like Ramsey to do, head to the North coast and wait or wait here?
Falco gets comfortable in his new skin as most of the Petals settle down for the night.
Marge offers the heroes a bed for the night and a hardy taur breakfast in the morning. Even if you sleep on the Rose breakfast is still an option in the morning. She adds that Kaga is near the center of the island. The ship does not belong to the village and the witch is 500 feet West of the edge of the village. It's the only tiny home on this side of the island. I hear there is a tiny village on the other side of the island.

When Rolth asks for additional healing Falco becomes very excited. Happily doing what he can he gathers Rolth, Gothruk and Finnian and any others that are injured and calls on the warper-sar to heal them. He releases the power three times, keeping a little bit for an emergency. {healing: 3/6/2} As the power washes over him, in his mind, Falco sees each of them warp a little. Growing horns, changing color or shrinking but this is only his perception, given by the warper-sar.

When Finnian comments Falco again tries on his new beaked smile. "It is quite amazing. The warper-sar has rewarded the Petals, not just me, for helping him and his triumvirate. I will do my best to keep you all healthy so we can protect those in need."

Falco heads to the ship for the evening. He spends some time going over the ship and letting his immortal power given knowledge tell him what is what. {Prof Sailor: 11 should have taken 10 for a 17 lol} Once satified he knows the ship he beds down for the night thankful that being part owl does not keep him up all night.

In the morning he rises and for the first time preys to the Warper-sar in earnest. Making the devotions that he suddenly feels are appropriate. As he goes he asks for a few things to aid him in his day and is confident he will get them when he calls. Finally he opens his old spellbook but immediately knows his mind will no longer hold that sort of spell. I guess this is just a sketchbook now.

With that he heads to breakfast.

A good look at the map concrete a good passage through the Ag territory. Kiwina notices Highlight to display spoiler: { that the trip looks difficult with rough terrain, large hills and valleys.}
Rolth notices that there is not village of Kaga does not show up on the map. (Perception vs DC 11) Highlight to display spoiler: { You do find a circle written in blood near the center of the map. To the left is the mountains and the right is a valley. }

Falco gets comfortable and sends out some healing energy. He finds a comfortable spot within the ship or a perch ;)

The witch replies with a smile, Those half-orcs and homework. Im afraid it will have long passed by then. Wow, you are the sweet one. I was going to give you trouble but you have swept me off my feet. Can you help me plant these Goodberry bushes while I search?
The witch returns within moments with a large emerald ring. Perception vs 10 Highlight to display spoiler: {} You notice the carving of a majestic liontaur warrior with a long, tight braid up the center of his human head on the sides of the ring. [/b]

At the witches question Gothruk uses a simple algebra and comes up with the answer of Ahhhhhh, Long? He says in his deep Minotaur voice. To Gothruk, the witch grins. You sound like one of my students.

To Tsak, Madam Pythagoras is wonderful. I will be using that from now on but question Who is this Pythagoras, anyone you know?
Head West young men. Its a challenge at times. Trees cramped together since meteor shower. An odd thing but I talk to much.

Rolth will indeed try to help plant the bushes while she searches, hoping that Finnian will tell him if he is doing it wrong. When the witch returns, he thanks her for allowing us this honor and asks, "Can you tell us more about this fascinating ring? Who is this handsome taur on the sides?" When she protests about talking too much, he assures her that it does not seem that way to him. "We ourselves met trees that walk and talk, on the other side of the island. A bit standoffish at first, they were, but in the end, we all got along fine. Do you think that these trees cramped together near here might be of the same sort?" He will happily listen to her tales as long as she likes to tell them. Then he is ready to be off, despite the warned about challenges.

Goodberries were things that druids would use... Or could create? From the little I know they work well to fill an empty belly, even though they are so small. Though Gothruk was in-part raised by a Druid he only heard about goodberries in passing and might be wrong.

Gothruk watches to see how the others plant the berries incase just putting them in the ground like any other seed is wrong, then he'll copy. Survival=7

In a rush Finnian gets down on hands and knees and begins to dig. "I've picked good berries from a bush, but I admit I transformed the berries from one bush into good berries. I don't know if I've ever seen one before. Do these bushes produce the same magical fruit that I've picked?" he asks looking up from his work, now far more interested in gardening than anything else. " I find the natural Wold such a fascinating and powerful place. One of these berries," he says pointing to the Bush " can sustain you for an entire day, at least the magical ones can, while I eat meals apon meals and still my stomach growls. I wonder how long I would last eating only one a day?" he looks up and turns as red as a ripe goodberry when he realizes what he's been prattling on about.

I am impressed young minotaur, Madam Pythagoras says to Gothruk, answering the question for the others. I have students that would not know a goodberry from a raspberry. Don't worry just dig a hole about the length of a human hand, lay in the young berry plant and cover.
This ring is a wonder. It belonged to the Queens young Prince Michael. The prince is a hero to the members of the Ag clan. I met the Prince and he lent me this ring.

----
A couple Petals stumble a bit through the rough terrain but recover beautifully without much trouble. The rough terrain is only the beginning as they notice the trees are very close together. Humans can weave through easily but the larger members of the good are going to have to squeeze. The perceptive members of the group can make out human-like features but all the trees are motionless. Some seem to be grabbing/hugging each other. Other trees look like they are running toward the coast. Is it a coincidence or just a natural thing? Its hard to tell.

Rolth immediately stops moving, concerned that these trees might actually be transformed people, and he doesn't want his bulk to harm them. He watches in interest as the others try to find ways to move through the trees. He passes the time by singing a tune about trees from the liontaur skalding troupe, Rrrush.*

There is unrest in the forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the maples want more sunlight
And the oaks ignore their pleas
The trouble with the maples
And they're quite convinced they're right
They say the oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made
And they wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade?
There is trouble in the forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the maples scream 'oppression!'
And the oaks, just shake their heads
