"Right. So the tentacle felt great but made a 'monster' I am going to get closer and see if I can just poke the shield with a small stick or something. Maybe non-threatening contact will do the quick. Of course if it kills me I guess we will learn something too."
Cursing his curious nature Falco grabs any small inanimate object he can find and move to touch the 'shield'.

Rolth examines the swirling pattern carefully, looking for a gap and warns Falco to move away from the edge.
He sees no obvious pattern and any gap that does appears is too small and too fleeting to exploit.
Tsak keeps his bow at the ready and scans behind them.
Except for the motion and sound of the sphere (and Ramsey’s whimpering from below deck), it is eerily quiet and stil.

Falco, being a good sport and the curious sort, gently pokes the glowing, swirling sphere with an object.
Finnian keeps his bow ready as Falco conducts his “experiment”.
All eyes are on Falco as he moves forward to touch the sphere with yet another belaying pin. As before, the strands in the sphere start to coalesce around the point where he touched it. A transparent tendril reaches out to touch him, but rather than retract, it wavers for a minute, then reaches out to Rolth and touches the top of his head before whipping back into the sphere.

Moments later, the mass of strands weave themselves together, taking the form of a large quadruped with the lower body of a lion and the upper body of a human. Its head stands about eight feet tall. This creature nimbly drops out of the sphere onto the surface of the bridge. Fibers in its body writhe onto the two arms of its upper body, forming what appears to be a glaive of woven grass. He looks menacingly at Falco, pulling the glaive back for a blow.
Elyas, ready for danger, sends forth a searing beam of fire.
It strikes the newly formed plant beast squarely in its chest. The scent of burning grass fills the air as its chest flashes into flame. The fire quickly burns out, leaving the creature’s chest blackened and smoldering.

[OOC: Given that the bottom of the sphere is touching the bridge, for Falco to reach it, he must move forward. I assumed he would not want to stand on the remaining strands of the previous grass creature and repositioning him on the Roll20 map accordingly.]

Sable moves and is ready for a shot.
Tsak and Finnian are also ready to fire into the creature. Finnian proposes that these creatures may not be enemies.

Gothruk Gore, seeing that the creature falls, attempts to walk through the sphere of energy.

The grass fragments again concentrate near the point of contact. Next to Gothruk appears a large, bipedal grass creature with the torso of a human and the head and legs of a bull, wielding a vicious glaive constructed of tightly woven grass. This it raises and swings mightily at the minotaur of flesh and blood, opening a vicious gash across his chest. It then follows up with a slash of its horn of hardened fiber, opening up a slash on Gothruk' neck.
(Gothruk takes damage of 15 from glaive and 7 from gore.)

As Gothruk pushes towards the sphere Falco chuckles and skips back as quickly as he can not wanting to get crushed by a big plant.
"Fine, take all my fun." he chuckles as he moves.
His attitude changes when the figure steps out and slashes at Gothruk.
He quickly mutters and launches a small dart of acid at the new plant creature.

Gothruk will step back out of reach and use his Guisarme to attack the creatures as they come forth. He dosn't really have time to calm his rapid heartbeat before other start creating more grass-creatures.

The Petals continue to interact with this mysterious green sphere. Constructed of an olive tinged light, it swirls bits of sargrass that what ripped from the surrounding plain when it formed.
Kiwina shares what he has discerned about the sphere and its diminishing size.
Tsak fires a shot at the sphere. His arrow bounces harmlessly off. As before, the grass concentrates around the shot, a green light flashes out and touches Tsak before returning to the sphere, and a Tsak-sized creature steps out of the globe. Rolth and Gothruk, being ready for the appearance of a creature, each take a mighty swings at it, each striking deadly blows. These two blows are sufficient to fell it. It collapses into a motionless pile of grass.
Falco encourages the others to touch the sphere to keep the creaturescoming.

His acid easily hits the sphere, but splashes harmlessly on its surface. Where it struck, grass fibers coalesce and the green light lashes out at the wizard. After the light returns to the sphere, a human-sized grass creature forms and steps out, wielding what appears to be a crossbow. The creature fires its crossbow at Elyas, provoking an attack from Gothruk. Gothruk’s glaive hits, scoring a deep gash across its chest while the creature's arrow manages to hit Elyas for 3 points of damage.
Finnian wishes to parley with the sphere and plunges his transformed arms into the roiling globe of grass and light, hoping to initiate contact.
Finnian discovers that the sphere is surprising solid and impervious to his touch. Grass starts forming at the point of contact. Like the sun’s, this light’s touch is impersonal and feels devoid of any sentience or emotion.}
The creature lashes at Finnian with a thorn covered fist, but fails to land the punch.

It is now clearly obvious that the sphere has decreased in size. The floating object remains in its center. Since the bottom of the sphere continues to touch the bridge, the object is now about twelve feet above the surface, whereas it started nearly twenty feet above the surface.

The acid dart strikes the sphere, splattering harmlessly on its surface. Harmlessly except that it spawns another grass creature! The familiar green light lashes out. It hesitates slightly before redirecting to Kiwina. A centaur shaped creature forms near Green Finnian then advances toward the centaur. Kiwina Highlight to display spoiler: {When the flash reaches him, Kiwina experiences what feels like the caress of a sun warmed breeze passing across and through his entire body.}
When the newly formed creature goes toward Kiwina Gothruk takes his opening, striking it for 14 points of damage.

Green Kiwina then turns to attack Gothruk and scores a hit with its hardened grass spear. Gothruk takes 5 points of damage.
Elyas reloads his crossbow and fires at the green version of himself. The bolt sinks deeply into its chest; the creature collapses into another pile of hay.
Tsak fires at Green Finnian. The bolt misses its intended target, but impacts the sphere, bouncing harmlessly off. This time the light touches Sable spawning a grassy minotaur that heads toward the ship and its bovine counterpart. It nimbly drops from the bridge to the deck, drawing a grassy battleaxe as it advances. Green Finnian attacks flesh Finnian, but once again its attack causes no harm.
These last two spawnings have reduced the sphere to about a foot in diameter, barely larger than the object in its center and only about six inches above the bridge's surface. Perhaps two or three strands of grass continue to swirl around the one foot diameter--certainly not enough to form another creature.

Kiwina additionally solidly connects with both hooves on the grassy centaur for 15 points of damage. Combining with the devastating strike from by Rolth’s attack of opportunity and Tsak’s arrow, the creature collapses into a motionless and unilluminated pile of grass.
Sable fires twice at Green Sable and hits it once for 9 points of damage. [OOC: plant type, not monstrous humanoid; You should be in melee now with Green Sable, but green sable used its AoO on Rolth, so the ranged attacks do not receive an AoO.]
Rolth leaps to the deck behind green Sable. The grassy beast makes a vicious cut with its hardened grass battleaxe as Rolth passes through his reach. Rolth takes 14 points damage. The liontaur responds with an attack of his own, cutting a bloodless gash in its side.

Falco hits Green Sable with an acid dart. The air fills with the acrid smell of chlorine and chlorophyll as the acid burns into the creatures side. He then moves close to the object contained within a now small globe.

Gothruk takes his AOO against Grassable opening a gash in the creature. Seemingly mindlessly it continues past that minotaur in its apparent single-minded pursuit of the other one.
Green Finnina again is again unable to land an attack on Finnian.
Green Sable rears its bovine head back in a silent bellow as it finds an opening in Sable’s guard. Its grass-made battleaxe cuts deeply into the minotaur’s shoulder. Sable is hit for with an almost critical for 14 points damage.
The creature’s follows up with a gore attack that strikes armor, but does no damage.

Falco grabs at the object within the small protective shield.
The shield is hard and unyielding to his touch. The few remaining strands of grass within it briefly move toward his hand, but soon they resume their swirling motion around the object.

To the Petals, he suggests some healing from the wand, starting with Gothruk, who took wounds almost as grievous as his boldness. Time permitting, he'll accept some healing himself (two cure light wounds would be nice.) All the while, he'll keep an eye out for new threats, leaving the sphere to the more arcane amongst us. Rolth calls to Ramsey. Keeping a weather eye open, he sees no other creatures or threats.
Ramsey quickly responds, climbing up the way he went down. Upon seeing the diminished sphere, his homely face breaks into a great smile. ”Awesome!" he exclaims as he cautiously approaches it.
Elyas assists in examining the sphere. He continues to see a moderate abduration aura on the now, much smaller globe and a strong transmutation aura on the object.
Kiwina suggests Ramsey attempt to grab the object.
Tsak joins Rolth in keeping a watchful eye. All appears quiet on all fronts.
Sable provides some much needed healing.
Falco considers using his dagger on the shield, but asks the bramble to give grabbing it a try first.
Finnian pull out his bow then heals Sable.
Gothruk, sorely wounded, waits to be healed before doing anything else.

Ramsey looks quizzically at Falco then, after a brief hesitation, impulsively reaches out to grasp the sphere. He tries to lift it off the surface of the bridge, but finds it to be immovable. It will not even roll when pushed. After a few failed attempts of trying to make it move, he draws his longsword in frustration and slashes at it.
IMMEDIATELY, A MIGHTY BURST OF SOUND LIKE A CLAP OF THUNDER ERUPTS FROM THE SPHERE AS IT RUPTURES WITH A BRIGHT FLASH OF VIRIDIAN LIGHT.
Everyone except Tsak, Sable, and Rolth[/b] make a Fortitude Save DC 17 or Highlight to display spoiler: {on failed save take 8 points of sonic damage and be stunned for 1d3 rounds. } Ramsey drops his sword and stares motionless at the object, an astonished expression on his face.
Silently compared to that din, the talon drops the short distance to the bridge no longer surrounded by the protective globe. The few remaining strands of grass were blown away by the force of the sound.
A short time later, however, the Petals hear something again. From the talon itself seems to be radiating what sounds like an animal cry. Deep and resonate, the call is a cross between a lion’s roar and the sound of a millstone as it rolls in its track.
From the north, another such roar cries out in the distance as if in answer.
Nearby you hear a rustle in the grass. Perception DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { the tatzlewyrm has broken cover and seems to be running at full speed to the south away from the bridge. It is the last you see of it.}
Then to the east, somewhat farther away, another lionine roar resonates. A few seconds later you hear another, then another, then another, from many directions and from various distances, none of them particularly close.
At the same time, those on the bridge feel a rumble. A crack booms from the column across from the already fallen support.

At the sound, Elyas feels his ears bleeding and loses all sensation for a moment, dropping his crossbow and falling to the ground.
He tries to choke out Help me... but is not sure he was able to get it out, and hopes someone is able to help him off the bridge.

Finnian hears the roar and sees the worm booking it across the planes. He hurries over and using the wand already in his hand rushes to Gothruks aid. [6 points in round 1, 5 in round 2] "Get up! He yells I can't carry you and we've got to go," Finnian yells as he stows his bow and tries to pull Gothruk to his feet.

It looks like Logan didn't see the opportunity to heal. If the DMs agree, how about he got the same as the other wounded Petals (2 CLWs from the wand)? Healing =17hp after rerolling the natural "1"
That would leave him conscious with 8 hp left after the BOOM!

Sable provides some healing and other assistance.
Rolth is healed. He shouts, "Quick, get back on board, the bridge is collapsing! I'll start preparations to get the ship underway as soon as all are on board. Captain Kiwina, should we follow the wurm, which has disappeared toward the south? Or does our goal lie elsewhere? In any event, let's get away from those roars!"
Falco maintains his grip on the talon and gets to the boat after informing the others that the tatzlewyrm has fled.
Tsak makes ready for a quick departure in the boat.
Elyas is stunned by the blast, but soon recovers.
Gothruk is healed by the wand then stunned from the blast. OOC:[Healing occurred BEFORE the blast. Gothruk is stunned but not unconscious.]
Finnian heroically avoids the impact of the blast. Finnian Highlight to display spoiler: { Finnian does not recognize the beast that is making the calls. He does think that it is saurian and likely very large.}
Enough time has passed that everyone, including Ramsey, has recovered from the blast.
Another report sounds from the same column as before, sounding deeper and lasting longer than before. Almost at the same time the column nearest the the ship emits a similar noise. The bridge shudders and bucks as the columns seem to be giving way.
Anyone on the bridge make a Reflex Save DC 10 or fall prone. Ramsey sways and topples to the bridge. He pulls himself up and scrambles toward the boat.
Beyond the bridge, the wild calls continue. They seem to be getting closer…..

(Climb=13, Perception=19) Tsak climbs to the crows nest to get the best possible view of what's happening around the ship. He assumes the structure is going to collapse but isn't focused on that, he's more concerned about the animal calls - are they Rapkes? Is it hunting time or should the team be booking it after the wurm? He peers out and shares what he sees with the other petals as they organize themselves about the boat.

Enough time has passed that everyone, including Ramsey, has recovered from the blast.
Seeing that everyone has recovered from the blast, Kiwina starts heading for the ship when the bridge starts shaking. Four-footed, he stays up okay. He pauses to help others if they fall, but moves to the ship as soon as he sees they haven't.
(Readies action to move and jump once he sees the others stay up or stand up.)

On the boat Falco really cannot see the surface of the bridge. He does yell to those on the bridge which he figures is the most a halfling can do to help in this situation.

All make it safely to the boat and push it away just as the first column gives way with an ear splitting crash and crashes to the ground. The entire structure seems to sway. The bridge shudders in response as if resigning itself to its collapse. For a few more moments it appears that the structure will hold after all, then with a great heave the supports give way. The bridge drops. A resounding crash like a thunderclap bursts across the plain, a cloud of dust rising in the air in response.
All seems still.
Breaking the momentary silence, another call sounds out, much closer this time.
A bow shot away in front of the ship, the tall grass can be seen swaying, revealing the presence of something very large moving very quickly toward the vessel. A reptilian head lifts up above the top of the fifteen foot high grass. Its eye glints as it surveys the ship, then it lifts up its tooth filled snout and emits the call you have been hearing. As quickly as it appeared, it disappears again beneath the surface of the grass.
Several more calls erupt in reply, closing in on the petals from every direction.
Given the size of that creature, the ship might be in danger should it attack.

I'm steering for what I hope is the optimum course for maximum speed with the wind and some angle off that nearest rapkes. I figure that they are coming in a loose circle, so we can use our speed to cut the cordon just outside that one's reach and then race away on the wind. Hypothetically." With that and a snappy salute, he hands the conn back to Kiwina and helps further stoke the firebox as ordered.

Gothruk salutes Kiwina before racing up the rigging to get to the Crows Nest. He hopes that from the tallest point of the boat he'll have an easier time seeing them move through the grass. He'll shout out where they are coming and any directions he thinks would be best to get away. Climb 1D20+8=9 with a 9 he might not be able to get to the Crows Nest until next round. Perception to see rapkes from his elevated position.

Finnian runs to the back of the boat and prepares to cast create water 30 feet behind them once the boat gets moving in the correct direction. His hope is that is the barren land the presence of water may distract them or call other beasts to serve as a distraction.

Sable scans the grasses, looking for disturbances as Gothruk begins his climb (Peception 28). He will call out locations of the beasts and other threats as he sees them, once Gothruk is in place - he will move to aid sailing of the ship.

Kiwina ably assisted by Rolth and Elyas manage to get the ship safely and quickly away.
Gothruk gets his horns tangled in the rigging as he attempts to climb up the crow’s nest, and loses some time shaking free before continuing his ascent.
At the stern Finnian stands ready to summon some diversionary water.
Sable meanwhile is spotting for rapke’s.
Eyes wide, Ramsey, rushes at helping with getting the ship underway
Sable sees that the ship is in fact being surrounded by the large beasts. Looking vaguely like a cross between a horse and a raptor, the creatures stand about ten feet at the shoulder. When they rear on their hind legs they head easily reaches about the tall grass, something Sable sees them occasionally do to get a better look at the ship’s position.
The minotaur readily recognizes that these are the rapkes that have been spoken about. Of more immediate concern is his realization that these creatures are behaving like a hunting pack and the ship and its occupants are their prey!
The Petals have yet to see a rock on the Sargrass Plains, but it feels as if the ship has found one as it shudders from the impact. The cause of the impact becomes clear when the ship continues onward, revealed a slightly stunned rapke in its wake.
Falco recalls that the Manfri elder, Mahyawu, gave them a magic flute to play that would return them to the crystal when played.
Deeming, given their current predicament, he pulls it out and starts to play.
Apologies for the railroading. I dislike doing so, but am trying to get the game back on schedule with the other campaigns
