Sanji (Eric) AC: 18/15/13 HP: 6  d20+2=8 ;
Wednesday September 30th, 2009 2:39:58 PM

Sanji wonders where her other 2 companions ran off to and hears a lot of shouting coming from behind her. Something about falling back. Then, Maikill thunders close and Motley comes up as well. I thought the sword was supposed to handle these individuals. Where did everyone go? Her heart is still racing from the dwarf's near miss with his hammer. 3 on 1. These are odds I can get behind. Seeing the advantage she has because of her newly arived companions, Sanji decides to stay in the fray and do as much damage as she can. Her blade flashes yet again seeking to drink from the dwarf. But nothing seems to work.

Grendel moves forward to ready a javelin throw as Bosk contemplates the situation and begins to bark out orders.

Motley snaps back to attention about the combat at hand and gleefully runs into battle against the Hllinn the dwarf--his greataxe tasting blood for the first time today, the gnome nearly kills Hllinn in one blow.

Xeron moves forward, making no attempt to remain silent, and attempts to hide behind a nearby bush.

Valla yells to his companions about the man he had shot and that they must have a healer. Deciding whether or not to attack by sword or bow, Valla chooses the latter and runs to the protection of a rocky outcropping some 55' away (no attack this round).

Maikill yells out to Motley to not kill the dwarf without him and promptly runs to join the fray.

Padre agrees with Bosk about delaying the attack, then runs forward to join up with Xeron, but finds that he has moved a little forward to the next bush. However, the cleric of Gargul can see him clearly from behind.

Sanji thinks about withdrawing for a mere moment until she is reinforced by Motley and Maikill, so she strikes out at the dwarf instead, but misses horribly again.

-------

Hllinn thought for the first time he was going to die and it filled his heart with dread. He had hoped to make something of himself and return to his clan replete with the trappings of success, but today may end that dream. The woman before him was no threat, she could barely wield the steel she carried, it was the gnome that has nearly killed him that was the biggest threat. Striking out with his warhammer, he roared out in disgust at missing him.

Hallfred spotted the hiding Xeron and had to choose between shooting into battle or taking out Xeron--he chose the latter. Raising his bow and taking careful aim, Hallfred cursed his luck as his shot goes wide.

Ao moves forward to flank the attackers as a Javelin from Grendel sails over his head. Calling upon his unholy god to bring down Bane upon the three attacking Hllinn, his prayer is immediately granted.
Maikill, Sanji, Motley: You are no longer BLESSED

Igor rushes straight forward into the fight--he detested namby-pamby tactics and preferred a straight up fight.

Raisa shook her head, but followed behind Igor so he didn't get flanked and killed outright.

Hakon spotted Xeron to his right and after seeing Hallfred miss, he chose to lay a line of defense and moved to his right and loaded his crossbow.

Jens had just recovered from being shot earlier in the day and now they've returned. The one who shot him had moved to his left--he was going to die.

Drusinthe needed to get closer and didn't want Jens to get shot again so soon, so she stuck with him, as did Taklum.

Maikill HP 14, AC15/12/13 /13  d20+7=13 ; d12+5=16 ;
Wednesday September 30th, 2009 7:18:29 PM

Maikill smiles down at the small warrior who almost cut his quarry in two.

"Motley is fierce, you kill him. I kill fool who runs to me."

Moving quickly (to P-19) Maikill swings his axe high and arcs it down towards the human enemy (Igor #4). In his earnest haste his swing seems clumsy.

Finishing his prayer to Gargul, The Horned Cleric grimaces as he realized that the battle has started without him. Bending low to the ground and running from cover to cover Bosk hurries to join his comrades as he tries his best not to be seen. As he approaches the space where Xeron is hiding, he slows down and carefully scans the area for a suitable place to hide. They might have seen me running, but hopefully I can find enough concealment to prevent anyone from being able to easily shoot at me cast those annoying spells.

Grendel (Jay) AC:16/10/16 HP 9/9  d20-4=3 ;
Wednesday September 30th, 2009 11:41:43 PM

Grendel moves forward very slowly as she gives the combat a good once over... her healing efforts will likely be needed soon but since she doesn't know who will need it she does her best to stay center to the whole group. It feels nice to have a minotaur ready to counter charge just behind you... an assuring presence. Valla has a good vantage point but is open to a counter charge. Motley and Maikill are handling themselves well giving Sanji the chance to put a flanking shot in if she positions right. Xeron and Padre might charge in to their open flank in a moment...

That's when she spots Raisa. The only reason one would enter combat without armor is if one didn't use it... she's their caster! That thought spawns action as Grendel draws another javelin from her back and launches it at the girl, hoping to catch her with a lucky shot. She grimaces as the shot goes wide yet again.

Burk-sleg! she curses to herself in orcish.

Thursday October 1st, 2009 12:10:31 AM

Ha! Didn't see that coming, did you? And I'm just getting started!

Emboldened by his last swing, Motley tries to catch the Dwarf on the upswing, after taking a 5' step to R18, but may have been too bold.

Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:6/6  d20+4=15 ; d8=3 ;
Thursday October 1st, 2009 12:27:09 AM

Valla, surveying the battle field, sees he can't help out to much at the moment, or from his current position. So, the Elf quickly thinks, I need to do something, I can't just stand here. They know where Im at, no chance in hiding... Shooting is what I'll do.. The elf runs forward (J/16) and fires at the one who called upon his own god( Ao-#3), then quickly dashed back toward the spot he was using for cover.

Actions: Move: J/16, atk, then back towards J/11 or as close as possible.
Atk: d20+4=15: Dam?? 3

OOC: If Valla is using the helmet to disguise as Katrin, how would Jens know its him? Unless he heard Valla tell the group, but even then I would think Jens would be more confused than automaticly know. Of course this is minor, and really doesn't matter. I was just curious on how you came to this conclusion.

You cannot move, attack and move unless you have a feat allowing such. If you wish to change your action before I post, you may. Otherwise it'll be: move and attack. For more information about combat rules, please checkout d20srd.org -- DM JIM

Xeron AC AC15 HP 7/7  d20=13 ;
Thursday October 1st, 2009 7:09:40 AM

Xeron sees the projectiles flying at him and realizes he is as well hidden as a fish in a barrel.
"Time to fight or time to run! This is not my type of fight. Now, who is the weakest and the most dangerous?"

He quickly makes a run of the ennemies "1-breastplate. 2-chain shirt. 3-chain shirt. 4-breastplate. 5-tunic. 6--breastplate. 7-breastplate. 8-leather. 9-scale. The number 5 must betheir wizard. That will be my target."

He moves within striking distance and swings his rapier at #5, but misses miserably (1d20 = 13)

Thursday October 1st, 2009 12:53:11 PM

I need to do as much damage as quickly as possible. My strike needs to be like the gavel of the Judger of Souls.

Sixtus realizes that he has a more powerful option than the axe in his hand, as trusty as it may be. Quickly holstering the axe on his back, Sixtus reaches back and pulls the long, sturdy piece of mahogany wood that rested between his back and the straps of his backpack.

After getting the quarterstaff free, Sixtus reaches into his belt pouch and pulls out a murky-brown liquid filled vial and prepares for what may come.

Hang back, stay out of direct sight... DON'T DIE!... I have no spells... Only my bow... No one is a clear enough target... At the least the arrow may provide a distraction... The elf ponders to himself while surveying the battle field.

Giving the kill to Motley, Maikill rushes forward and strikes clumsily at Igor, missing him easily.

Bosk runs forward to Xeron's side, trying to hide behind the tree that is only a little bigger than himself. However, he can clearly see the foe to his south and they likewise.

Grendel see's what possibly is a spellcaster and take a short hop to throw her javelin, which flies so high in the air, one could almost loose sight of it's slim silouette. It lands some distance away, completely missing the supposed spellcaster and anyone within a square mile.

Motley moves to gain a flanking advantage on Hllinn, but still the braggart gnome misses his foe.

Valla decides to move out into the open, then thinks that unwise, it would be a linear entrapment into the open--not good. Staying where he is, he fires at Ao. The shot is perfect--until it strikes a branch and veers widly off target (higher than % is required, so 51% or higher in this case to hit).

Xeron decides that the one wearing a tunic and breeches must be the Ironbands mage and so charges her immediately (only way you could reach her; Also gives you a +2 to hit), luckily for him, she had no idea he was there. His swift blade cuts deeply into her side as he makes his sneak attack (5damage).

Padre stays where he is and oils his staff (that sounds so nasty :)

-------
Hllinn couldn't believe he was still alive, his gods were on his side, "DIE filthy Gnome!" And strikes Motley hard on the shoulder, possibly breaking it.

Hallred takes aim and fires at Bosk, the closest target to him (you cannot Hide while being observed, and Hallred was), skewering him with an arrow.

Ao wasn't about to hide in plain sight while the intruders had a fairly capable archer, so he charged into battle against Maikill--but misses him with the mace he tried bashing his skull in with.

Igor strikes back with a blood curdling scream, slamming his mace into Maikill with a severe blow.

Raisa had been completely surprised by the assassin's sneak attack, so she struck back as best she could with a flurry of blows, but misses with both attacks.

Hakon stays where he is and also fires at Bosk, but misses badly.

Jens, Drusinthe and Taklum continue to make a flanking manuever, ever wary of Valla's archery.

Sanji (Eric) AC: 18/15/13 HP: 6  d20+2=4 ;
Thursday October 1st, 2009 8:06:56 PM

After seeing the dwarf lash out against Motley, Sanji refuses to leave the battle to chance. She still doesn't fall back. Instead, she tries to clear her head as the melee erupts around her. She side steps into a flanking possition. Just focus and let your blade do the work. Sanji will attack again. This time, trying not to miss completely.* But aparently, hoping not to miss isn't good enough.

Sixtus watches as brutal swings and blood break out with Motley and the dwarf. He also sees that Maikill is already outnumbered and neither of those sits well with him. With his staff nice and oiled up, he breaks into the fray, coming around Motley's back and swinging with force at the dwarf who is almost at his end*.

Perhaps it was the muddy-ish ground, perhaps the branch hanging above him, but something devastated his attack to the point of being ineffectual.

Maikill loses focus on himself, pain is all he feels. Pain, and the need to end the cause. With a hatred bred through years of foul treatment by those who despised his orcish blood, he lets out a terrible yell. His hatred is in evidence as he swings his axe at Igor (#4).

Wishing he had the speed necessary to attack the next opponent, his bloodshot eyes swing towards Ao.

A prayer to Flower is already upon her lips, she just needs to get close enough to deliver a boon of healing.

He yells "Bosk, how you use these horns of yours to actually do something to help us? Praying won't save us today"

He swings his rapier but fails to connect "Here goes my luck" and braces himself to be hit. (1d20 = 11)

Perhaps she had angered the gods, stepped on a bug that would decide the fate of humanity, or just plain sucked with her sword. Whatever the reason, Sanji could not manage to hit the dwarf, Hllinn, even from behind.

Maybe it was Padre's god that was mad at the two of them, perhaps his staff was just too slick, because he too couldn't hit the overwhelmed dwarf.

With a yell born of terrible anguish and blackened hatred, Maikill, in a single blow, cleaves Igor through his steel shield and armor, through his clavicle down into his ribcage, killing the man instantly.

Grendel rushes in to help, the words of a prayer on her lips.

Valla cries out that there are three coming around after letting loose an arrow into the same man he had almost killed earlier in the day, but this time it does not drop him, but buries itself firmly into the man's right arm.

Motley knows he must end this soon and takes a skillful swing at the dwarf's head, taking the top of it clean off, killing him in a spatter of gore than litters Sanji's clothes.

Yelling out for help and crticising Grendel's plan, Xeron tries to slice open his foe, but finds she is too agile for him.

It felt like a stampede! The earth trembled as Bosk charged forward, ending with a crushing blow to Raisa's shoulder that sent her into immediate unconsciousness.
-----------

The tide of battle had drastically changed, Jens looked to the other two and he could see they were thinking alike, but retreat was just not in his blood. So instead both he and Taklum charged the lone Valla. It was Taklum that reached him first and swung mightily with his warhammer, striking the scarred elf with a solid blow, sending him reeling backwards and unconscious into the ground. Jens pulled back his sword, but instead reversed the grip and steadied himself for a coup d'grace against the man who nearly killed him before. Drusinthe abhorred all the violence, but she had signed on for this and so she helped as much as she could. Calling forth a flame in her hand, she flung it at Maikill, barely hitting him, but enough to burn him painfully.

Ao lost the firm grip he had on his bowels at the sight of Igor's sudden death, and so too with his weapon, as it fails to hit the raging Maikill.

Both Hallfred and Hakon level their bows at the enormous carriage of Bosk's body and let fly their arrow and bolt, but only the arrow manages to hit Bosk, cutting him slightly.

Friday October 2nd, 2009 9:25:54 PM

Xeron likes the odds a little better " 8 vs 9 is now 8 vs 6. Good thing the man-bull is on our side."

He takes a quick look of the situation and yells "Grendel! Padre! Motley! Go save Valla! Bosk! Go get the two in front on us. I will be right behind us."

Having said that, he kneels to the monk in front of him and ends her life. "As Penn said and I agreed, no prisoner! This will avoid the discussion of what to do with the survivors and have them come back to cutour throat!"

She heard his cry for aid. She heard the charge of their opponents. She watched as he was cut down. Everything slowed down for her as she ran in the direction of fallen Valla. As she watched one of them ready his sword for a killing stroke, she unleashed a spell of power and pointed at the man's weapons as she uttered the command "DROP".

She had not a weapon in her hand, but in her heart she had faith and she was intent on weilding it as the dangerous weapon that it is on this day.

She shouts to her nearest allies after the spell releases, "Valla is down, they mean to murder him!"

Although he made a horrible mistake, he turns just in time to see the warhammer. Then feel the agonizing pain as it crashed into his face, breaking his nose, shattering his cheek bones, and forcing him to swallow many teeth.

OOC: Not sure if he already did the coup de grace, but Valla's fort is 10....

Valla sees himself in a meadow, tall grass, bright sun, hundreds of elves running about. Laughing, children playing, adults joking and carrying on. Valla himself is not unscarred, his flesh is as smooth and fair as it once was in his early life. A smile paints his face in this death dream.

Feeling the arrow pierce his flesh, the Minotaur roars in anger. Turning his attention once again towards the two snipers he lowers his head and charges towards Hallfred's left, hoping to use the human as a shield and keep as much distance between himself and the second attacker. Just as he closes in on the chain mail clad figure, he begins to twirl his morning star in a complex pattern of circles in an attempt to wrap it around his bow/cross bow (not sure which one is his) and rip it from his hands. Hoping to catch the man off gaurd, he swings one of his massive horns at the guys face, hoping to catch human off gaurd.

Padre Sixtus Torquemada | HP10/10 | AC16 | Spell List | [Drew]  d20+3=12 ;
Sunday October 4th, 2009 11:12:54 PM

Padre watches as bodies split open allowing bowel and spleen and gore to tumble forth and begin mixing with the mud and grass underfoot. He has seen worse in his day but the sight always brings back the taste of lavender to his mouth. Blood and gore was one thing; it was something that you worked with on a daily basis as a healer. It was the eyes. The vividness of a person's pupils going from tightly contrasted, moist and attentive to foggy, lax orbs of defeat as if one's soul is a milky ghost which tears through it's body's eyes when slain.

"Valla!!"

Sixtus was not sure why he yelled, but the actions had changed so quickly that he was caught off guard. He began running, noting three IronBand members amidst the newly buzzing swarm of Venbolio's Lackeys. He ran at the only Ironbander not receiving attention, but he knew that too much would happen in the time that it would take him to reach the female clad in leather armaments.

"The Judger of Souls will find you wanting this day! May your womb begin to rot!*"

The Attack -- Round 5 -- DM Jim
Monday October 5th, 2009 1:21:56 AM

Yelling out for his companions to help out Valla before he is killed, Xeron kneels down to Raisa and methodically slips the blade of his dagger between her trachea and sternocleidomastoid muscle, severing her carotid artery, killing her in mere seconds.

Grendel calls upon the grace of her goddess and commands Jens to DROP his sword, which he promptly does. Unfortunately for Valla, the point of the blade was down and poised over his chest when Jens let go of it, and it sinks into Valla's chest and stays there, however, it's not enough to kill him outright.
(sorry, Jens was poised over Valla's body and I figured there would be a small chance of it hitting him...then I rolled a nat 20, luckily no crit)

Taking in the scene around him, Valla is amazed at the scenery, the beauty of the land--then a huge wasp lands on his chest and stings him mightily.

Giving some words of advice to his opponent, who will never be able to act upon them, Maikill fells his foe with a single blow from his great axe, then runs toward Drusinthe.

Rushing to Valla's aid, Motley gives out a guttural yell as he charges Taklum, but fails to hit the wily dwarf.

Sanji's frustration with her success, or lack thereof, is evident as she struggles internally abuot whether or not she's really helping. But after seeing Motley charge off, she follows suit and finally lands a blow with her rapier, although a very meager one.
You had to charge, and when you charge you cannot go around someone in a circle to flank them, it has to be a straight line. So no flank, no sneak damage

Bosk is angry and you won't like Bosk when he's angry. Driving his hooves deep into the dirt, Bosk charges forward with his horns down, then suddenly whips around his morningstar to disarm Hallred of his bow, which he does quite proficiently. The Taur then follows up with a horn attack, but this time Hallfred dodges it easily.

Calling out Valla's name, Padre rushed forward but was unable to reach him, but instead called out a virulent curse to Drusinthe, who responded, "You talking to me? You talkin' to me?!" (not intimidated)
----------

Unable to pick up his stuck sword because of an ensorcellment, Jens moves to the otherside of Valla while drawing out his bow, then takes a shot at Maikill. Luckily the tree between them doesn't get in the way of his shot and his arrow strikes Maikill in the lower leg, nearly driving him into unconsciousness from the pain.

Taklum was outnumbered, just the way he liked it. They would be singing songs of his victory for weeks to come at the hands of these thieves. Deciding to go right to left, as he was right handed, Taklum brought down his warhammer on Sanji, striking her soundly on the back of her shoulder as she tried to spin away from his attack. Pain and darkness were the last things she felt and saw before hitting the cold hard stone beneath her feet.
Sanji was AC16 due to charging

Drusinthe was quaking in her sandals as the slavering monster of a half-orc was barreling down on her. She wasn't about to stay there and fight it, so she did something she hadn't done in such a long time-- whipping out her sling she reminded herself of the story about the sling taking down a goliath, it had to work here. Flinging a stone at Maikill, Dru's prayers were answered as the stone slams into the half-orcs face, knocking him out. Running north to group back up with Jens, she looked over her shoulder and wondered how those near the Taur would fair.

Hallfred, reft of his bow, drew his longsword as he took a 5ft step to his right, and slashed out at Bosk. Luckily for the Taur, his magic deflected the blow, leaving him unharmed.

Deciding between Bosk and Xeron, Hakon decides to take a shot at Xeron for fear of him joining the battle against Hallfred. However, his loading skills with the light crossbow is far from proficient, and the misloaded bolt flies hap-hazardly into the air, missing it's target by a mile.

Grendel catches Maikill as he falls back from the impact of the slingstone. Her arms already wrapped around his torso she bends her head, touching her forehead to the back of his head as she offers a quiet plea to Flower. "Fight without fear orc. I am here to lift you each time ye fall." As she feels Maikill come to she releases him and lifts her morningstar from her belt.

He goes next to Bosk and tries to help the minotaur hit his target but his attempt to confuse the ennemy fails.

OOC: Based on the map, assumption was that Xeron could get close to the ennemy and attack at the same time.

OOC: Rerolling HP's in the Wold
Monday October 5th, 2009 12:13:58 PM

Whether it's rolling HP's for character creation/advancement or healing, the Wold house rule is that if the die roll is a "1", not including modifiers, you get to reroll until you get something other than a "1"

Sanji's healing above is due a reroll and if Jay doesn't reroll before everyone else posts and I post a new round, I'll make the roll.

Maikill's rage is gone, so he is at -3hp, the minimum healing Sanji can give him is 4hp because you can't roll a "1", so Maikill will be able to act this round, but remember that standing up is a move action.

BTW, if it wasn't for Grendel last turn, Valla would be dead, since no one else attacked or otherwise tried to stop Jens :)

"You good, thank you. I go kill woman with rocks now."

He moves toward the woman with his axe held high.

Watching as the entropy of battle forces body after body to spill blood and collapse to the earth, Sixtus shakes his head and grits his teeth in determination. Now their only spellcaster and one of the rogues had dropped...two people that should not being going toe-to-toe with an enemy.

"Grendel! Get to Sanji and stabilize her, NOW!"

Sixtus then strides forward towards the dwarf who stands before the mousy girl's limp body and takes a double-handed swing of his oily staff at the stout opponent. His knuckles crack audibly as he tightens his grip, determined not to let the slipperiness of it get the best of him this time. The paleness of his eyes are almost white now, as if a ghost or spirit were possessing him. Hunger grows intensely through the paleness and Sixtus means nothing but blood.

After a few soothing words of prayer, Grendel heals Maikill of some of his wounds.

Maikill, dazed a little at first, quickly rises to his feet and thanks Grendel for her spiritual help. The half-orc however is not so gracious with Drusinthe as he tells her what he's going to do to her as he runs straight for her.

Rushing to aid Bosk in melee, Xeron finds his attempts to distract Hallfred, as Bosk attacks, are all for naught.

Bosk, try as he might, has a formidable foe in Hallfred, or at least a well armored one, and fails to strike the man with both his morningstar or horns.

Yelling out to Grendel to stabilize Sanji immediately, Padre moves to engage Taklum, giving him some words of wisdom as he smashes his oil-laden staff on top of the dwarfs head, driving him to the ground unconscious.

Sanji continues to hemorrage inside, the bones of her broken shoulder having pierced and torn adjoining tissue.

There is nothingness, wait...there is something, something in the dark--something waiting for Valla

------

"Run Dru!" Jens called out, then snatched up his sword from Valla's body as he charged Maikill. "Die beast!" Jens yell as his attack critically wounds the half-orc, sending him once more into unconsciousness.

"No way Jens!" Dru retorts after seeing the ferocity of which Jens attacked the filthy, ugly, hideous, slobbering beast running at her. Casting her own spell (Spellcraft DC16 Highlight to display spoiler: {Shillelagh}), Drusinthe readied herself for the incoming attacks.

Hallfred once again struck out with his sword, only to fail once again at injuring the beast.

Hakon came to finally realize that he just plain sucked with a crossbow. Dropping it, he rushed forward and called upon his god to bring fire to his enemies. Outstretching his hands, he sent out a torrent of flames bathing both Xeron and Bosk in it's painful embrace.

The smell of burnt hair and flesh was overwhelming. Where in Gargul's name did that fire come from? Bosk wondered, while quickly patting out a couple of minute flames that still remind on his cloths. Leaning back and narrowly avoiding the tip of Hallfred's sword, the truth dawned on him. Magic! With armor like that, I assumed he would come at me with a blade. This is not good. Even with Xeron's help I won't last long on a two front battle.
Glancing back to Xeron, the Minotaur's ice blue eyes burned as he moved them from Hallfred to Hakon and indicating what he planed to do. Xeron shifted his weight, almost imperceptibly, and Bosk knew he understood. This was probably his only chance to end the battle quickly, and failure would mean being attacked on both sides...and probable death.
Please Gargul , was the only prayer he had time to say.
Instantly, The Horned Cleric sprung into action. Letting out a guttural blood curling cry that could have been coming from the depths of hell or from Gargul himself he raised his weapon. Swinging the morning star in a large arching circle he spins around, stepping behind Xeron, and perfectly timing his down swing at Hallfred just as Xeron ducks out of the way. Using the momentum from his spin, Bosk comes around again and raises his head, aiming his horns for Hakon. Feeling a solid connection the Minotaur smiles. While unsure if he penetrated Hakon's thick armor, he hopes that he at least broke the mage's concentration long enough to disrupt his next spell.

Wednesday October 7th, 2009 12:42:47 PM

Stepping over Sanji's broken body, dropping her morningstar and resting a knee on Taklum's chest as she kneels, Grendel calls upon the power of her goddess to heal, slightly, Sanji's wounds to stabilize her condition--which she does.

Maikill's body stems the flow of blood from his wound and bleds no more from the clotting of his blood, or could it have been his late mothers gentle touch that stopped the blood from spilling from his body any further.

Valla feels darkness all around him, it is neither warm or cold, but something waits for him out in the dark.

His anger overflowing, Motley runs as fast as his little legs will take him and strikes a cruel blow against Jens, nearly chopping his left leg off and dropping him where he stands, inconscious and bleeding to death.

Rushing to Maikill's aid, before he's killed outright, Padre rushes at Jens with his oily staff and bludgeons the man to death, never fearing that he will rise again to bother their group.

Working in unison with Xeron, Bosk moves with great tactical finesse and lands a solid blow on Hallfred, but it's not enough to take him out. With his wickedly curved horns, the Taur strikes out at Hakon, but his foe dodges the attack easily.

----

"Sorry Jens!" Dru cried out as she quickly turned and ran as fast as she could from her attackers (withdraw action: 120ft away from her last position on the map).

His ribs nearly crushed, Hallfred wasn't a man about to die for nothing. Most of his crew was done for and it was only the three of them now. Seeing Dru run away solidified what he needed to do, "Run for it Hakon, we'll meet at the usual place, run!" With that said, both men turned and withdrew from the battle as fast as they could (withdraw action: both 120ft away from their last position)

Hallfred can only withdraw and not draw an AoO from one person, so either Xeron or Bosk may take an AoO attack on him. You guys decide which.

If you decide to pursue, please state so in this next round, otherwise combat is done.

Grendel is in no mood for further combat, though she has no doubt that these survivors could be a big problem in the future if they catch the group at the wrong moment. She takes a moment to relish the savor of standing victorious on the battlefield. Unscathed from the experience Grendel says a soft prayer of thanks to Flower for keeping her from harm this day, then looks to the wounded.

She gently drags the immense form of Maikill over to where the others lay. She then breaks out her healer's kit and begins to provide long term care to Sanji, Maikill, Valla and any others who wish to rest.

What is it that is waiting for me? Is there even anything there? I am so close to figuring it out. Sanji stands on the brink of death and suddenly stopped in her journey. She isn't sinking toward nothingness anymore. But, neither does she seem to be returning to her previous state. A soft moan escapes her lips as she lies in a crumpled heap on the soggy ground. After dispatching his foe, Bosk addresses the group. We have earned a few minutes peace, but we must work fast and return to Penn. The way I see it we have three tasks; to heal our comrades, to check out the camp, and to check the bodies.

When we were hired by Penn, he said that he would cover any extraordinary healing services we may need for injuries incurred during this period of employment. I believe we may need to take him up on that offer. In our current state it would be difficult to adequately defend the camp against another attack, we cannot wait for natural healing or even for more blessings. If we are attacked again, we will need all the spells we have.

We also need to decide our course of action. At the moment we have two helmets of disguise. I suggest we can have two of the sneakier of our party check out the camp and look for valuables the Iron Band abandoned, or we can go and explore as a lage group. My guess is that the camp is empty, or else they would have called for backup rather than running away.

We also need someone to search the bodies and figure out how to transport them and our friends. I can carry our injured comrades if necessary, but restoring them to waking and walking condition would be best. Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions.

Everyone has fled, so yes, killing anyone at this point who is helpless is considered evil. You could leave them to die, although a good person would heal them and give them some options.

Xeron will kill Ao before anyone can stop him...Anyone going to convince Xeron to stop killing the unconscious enemy?

"Valla? Can you hear me?"

Sixtus waits a second and begins wiping blood from the elf's contorted face. Then he begins whispering to his god, a hint of urgency in his hushed tone.

A moment later and Sixtus' hands begin to glow with a bluish-white light. He begins tracing the wounds with two fingers, watching as the flesh begins to close back together and mend itself.

Grendel smiles as Padre uses a boon of healing on Valla. Though as he scrambles about trying to use dirty clothes to patch up his wounds she gives Padre a stern slam on the wrist. Showing him her ample healer's kit it is clear to see that she has enough clean bandages and potent herbals to keep a small unit of wounded well tended. She motions over to the stalking form of Xeron, I wonder how Gargul views his actions post battle. It is a dishonorable practice. she says to Padre in hopes someone who has sway with Xeron will correct his behavior.

These wounded need seeing to. I will also guard them. Those that have not given chase to the remainder of Ironband should quickly investigate their camp. Loot anything of value. Then help me transport these fallen. They need at least a full days rest, if not two before we can expect them to even limp about. Grendel will drop some green branches and begin making stretchers that can carry the wounded with only a single person dragging one end along the ground.

OOC: Meta-gaming Versus Role Playing finishing the wounded
This is the second time the issue is showing up so I want to put it to bed once and forever
It make NO sense from a RP point of view for Xeron not to finish the dying. He is from the south continent so he could not give a rat ass about the gods. In addition, given his background, he does not see it as a "bad" thing.
However, given the way this board is run and the naive definition of good on this site, the practice is a problem from a meta gaming point.
So I have no problem having Xeron stopping the practice but I need one meta gaming promise. None of the one we spared will come back to make us regret it. The ones who escape are one thing but the ones we saved should not be an issue in the future. If not, it would be stupid to save them.
If we want to apply 21st century enlightment to medieval type situation, we need some agreement that being the good guys won't mean we will regret it in the future.
Frankly I am tired of the situation and I just wish they would be either alive or dead like a critter. So let's all agree on how to deal with the situation and move on. This is not fun.

OOC: I agree with Xeron; chasing down, or finishing off foes who tried to kill us... Shouldn't be considered evil. If we happend upon a helpless person, yes, killing them would be evil. Even if it was an enemy in the past. But some one who just swung a sword at our head, then ran for it, and we waited 5 mins to pursue for what ever reasn, should be cut down, not as an evil act. Killing some one who is unconcious that just tried to kill us shouldn't be considered evil ethier, they just tried to kill me! If so, then a coup de grace would be an evil act. No?

Roleplaying -- DM JIM
Thursday October 8th, 2009 2:28:28 AM

If you are not having fun all the time, then this is not the game for you I guess, pure and simple. I cannot guarantee fun all the time. Sometimes, and it will come again, your character will be placed in a moral dilemma. How you roleplay through that situation isn't meant to be fun, it is meant to give the story some drama. We could roll dice all day and talk about this or that, or I could do my job and place you in situations where you have to decide, good versus evil, which one are you? Unfortunately the Wold does not allow neutral PC's, but there are plenty of neutral NPC's who don't care about your character, your woes, what you want in life. All they care about is themselves and they most got to that point because they made a decision to take the easy way out and guess what, they are not heroes--you are supposed to be.

What are the reprecussions of Xeron killing the incapacitated foes? If he did it in the city streets of Hook City, would it be any different than where he is now? No, it's just easier to get away with, it happens all the time by the looks of Pig Alley--but does that make it right? Does it make it heroic? No, just easier. It's easier to kill them and not worry about them coming back after you, always looking over your shoulder. Just like water finds the path of least resistance and become crooked rivers, so to do we have crooked people who have taken that same path.

It's not meant to be easy, sometimes hard decisions need to be made and if you the player doesn't like making those decisions, then don't, leave it to someone else. But if you do, then know what you're getting into. Killing someone who is incapacitated, while you are not threatened in any way, is evil. Period. You (as in each player, no one in particular) have an opportunity to roleplay something other than hack and slash, take advantage of it, make it twist your character's guts into a knot, have them develop an ulcer because of what they've done; Have them seek atonement, go questing, do something other than just sit there like a lump and make spot and listen rolls everyday, 5 minutes a day.

Grendel (Jay) AC:16/10/16 HP 9/9
Thursday October 8th, 2009 9:04:28 AM

OOC Post:

Some of the confusion I have encountered with alignments is that people usually hold to one of two different moral viewpoints. It's the old situational ethics vs absolute morality.

Situational Ethics determines the right/wrong of any action based on the person who is committing the action and the circumstances that person finds himself in. A Paladin stabbing a guard in the back would be viewed as evil, but a rogue doing so would be viewed as something less than evil.

Absolute Morality on the other hand holds that certain actions are right/wrong inherently regardless of the person committing the action or the circumstances. So both the paladin and the rogue in the above example would be committing an evil act.

Unfortunately, regardless of what viewpoints we each personally have, D&D is built on the idea of Absolute Morality. There are gods who are the arbiters of good/evil and law/chaos. Regardless of what a character may think about himself and his actions, those actions are judged by these deific third parties who are very opinionated.

That said, the path of 'good' is a tough one. Often the choices we make will come back to make our path difficult again in the future. That's part of the fun of playing a good guy. Making the decision to do right even against our own better judgment and then having to deal with the complicated consequences. It's about the struggle. If you take that out you don't have a story, you have a simulation of medieval fantasy combat.

Good Gaming!

Xeron AC AC15 HP 5/7

OOC: I know better than to disagree with the DM who is always right but how is Motley running after an ennemy catching her and killing her not evil while finishing people who tried to killed like Xeron does is considered evil. I do not get it.
I guess you want us to play good the stupid way (stupid being a reference to Spaceballs and MEl Brooks famous line, not an insult) i.e. turning the other cheek this way we can be hit again.
Fine it is your game, you run it the way you want.
But how can you justify looting the bodies? what we find should be given to their kin or a charity, not kept by the adventurers.
To me alignments is the weakest point of the RP in DnD because it makes no sense. Sneaking into someone house to kill them and steal their stuff is a GOOD thing because the person we attacked was EVIL. Makes no sense. How can the use of violence be good? We attacked them. It was not self defense.
However, we have arbitrary things like killing them while they stand is GOOD, but killing them while they are unconcious is BAD. Is it me or killing is simply a BAD thing, regardless of the person level of conciousness?
It is arbitrary line that does not stand scrutiny if looked out with an enlightned 21st century eye.
But as I said, it is your game and I will play by your rules. So strike my previous entry. NO KILLING. NO LOOTING. NO SEARCHING. GOOD PEOPLE DON'T ROB THE DEAD.

The Camp, Part Deux -- DM JIM  d20+2=11 ; d20+2=13 ;
Thursday October 8th, 2009 12:11:03 PM

As Motley and Bosk continue to give chase to the fleeing Drusinthe, Grendel back at the scene of the finished battle tends to the fallen, on both sides of the conflict--her action leaves both Hallfred and Taklum alive, Ao on the other hand could not be saved due to Xeron's blade.

Deciding on what must be done, Grendel suggests the Ironband camp be looted, but Xeron doesn't heed her words, instead he picks up Sanji and starts carrying her back to Penn's encampment, some fifteen minutes away.

Eventually the enraged gnome, Motley, loses sight of Drusinthe amongst the myriad of tents, lean-to's and other poorly constructed buildings of the shanty town and soon loses his rage and becomes fatigued. Bosk is close behind and joins the gnome to see everyone giving the pair a wide berth, some taking an adjoining "street" to come nowhere near the crazed looking gnome and his Taur companion.

-----

Chasing after a fleeing enemy combatant, who is not helpless, is not the same as finishing off an unconscious person, neither is looting. No one is making your character do something he or she doesn't want to do--I'm just reminding you that there are reprecussions.

In the future such discussions should be taken to email and not clutter up the board here. Brief OOC questions are fine, but OOC discussions of this magnitude are not suited for this venue.

He had promised to be good and promise that he will never ever finish a dying person and he will never take anything from someone he had to kill. This was bad behavior. This has became obvious to him when the female orc after claiming the goodness of her god was able looting the camp. I realize that things are different in Mudtown, but where we come from the will of the Gods and chiverly are taken very seriously. I know the rules gets confusing, but part of the code is that we do not kill after the battle is over. These rules were made in part by royalty and people of power to protect royalty and allow for noble deaths. They are pacts among men of honor. It may not seem fair that they are applied to honorable people, but we must live by example if we are to change the wold. The benifit is that if you win in battle, the enemy's weapons, armor, horse, everything is forfeit in exchange for thier life. If they die in battle, they are still forefit because they tried to use them to kill you.

The trick is to make sure they are dead before the battle is over. Also remember that while we cannot kill them, we do not need to save them either... Although I don't believe Grendel will agree to that. On the plus side, letting them live will make us not only appear just, but it will allow for the survivors to spread word of our victory.[b]

Sixtus watches as the group begins to dismantle and scatter to the wind. He is not sure why people are doing what they are doing but his face begins to flush with frustration.

"STOP! ALL OF YOU, JUST STOP! XEERRROOOONNNN!"

Sixtus cannot help but lose his cool just a bit. There has been nothing close to a plan for anything that has been done since a group of strangers formed to save what seemed to be a child and an unconscious minotaur. He looks at the two newcomers with obvious skepticism and upon those who he has fought with something close to annoyance.

"We are NOT splitting up again! We just destroyed one of the most feared, hated, and well-connected free companies in Mudtown....and some of you want to leave without the group? THINK! Gargul help me. Some of us are hurt pretty badly."

Sixtus walks over to Valla and grabs his bow before helping him up out of the cover he had found.

"Valla is broken, bloodied and barely conscious BUT at least he is staying to help protect the remaining group. XERON is carrying an unconscious Sanji who almost died. Do you think that helps her heal, being slung over his shoulder like that? As for you," Sixtus points at the female Cleric of Flower, "Save your supplies for your co-workers. You have stopped the remaining Iron Band members from dying outright...that is good enough. They stay or they get dropped off at a medical ward. They do not come back to our camp and the do not get any more of our supplies or our blessings. If you have a problem with that, find other employment."

Sixtus takes a moment, chest heaving as he finishes his tirade. His eyes are red from battle.

"We all go to search the camp. What if the one who escaped went to get a friendly free company to come back and avenge the Iron Band? We are hired to be a group...we need to start acting like one. Grendel, do you have any blessings left to take care of Sanji?"

Bosk and Motley ran after one of the Ironband obviously thinking as you do, that they will come back against us."

She looks around at what they do have... which is not much. "If you don't want these members of Ironband returned to our camp that is fine..." Her fists clench for a moment as she continues, "Though as for my supplies I will use them as Flower directs and if that means you don't want me in your band you can have that conversation with Penn when we return."

She points to the Ironbands Camp, "You take Valla and raid that camp. I'm sure I can transport Maikill back to camp safely." With that she touches her hat of disguise and whispers, "Shizzle-bop" while picturing a human girl wearing healer's garments. "When I get to camp I'll keep an eye on Xeron and provide care to Sanji should she still be living."

With that she will load Maikill onto the crude stretcher she had been working on through all of this confusion and begins to move back toward Penn's camp. "Be quick you two and may Flower protect you."

===================================

Xeron left with Sanji
Bosk and Motley are together.
Grendel will move Maikill.
That leaves Padre and Valla together without any wounded to tend.

"I have used all that Gargul has granted me this day. I am sorry. Grendel is the only one who has any blessings left as far as I know. Besides," Sixtus wave his hand around in a horizontal-arching motion, "with just us left to find the Iron Band's camp and loot it, I am sure we will be dead before you get a chance to receive any more blessings."

Dropping off Maikill at Penn's camp she will leave him there under the guard that Penn has arranged. If there is a healer there she will ask for a boon of healing to be used on Maikill and Sanji if she is there as well. Then she plans to immediately head back toward the Ironbands camp with haste. If she sees Xeron there she will speak with him. "Xeron the remainder of our group is checking on the Ironband's camp. We should be with them rather than sheltering here. Penn's temporary guards will keep our friends safe for the moment. I plan to go, whether you accompany me on not is your decision." With that said, Grendel heads to Ironband territory with a prayer to Flower that the rest of our group remains safe.

The Looting -- DM JIM
Monday October 12th, 2009 4:37:42 PM

Battered and weary, the remaining members of the group (you guys need a name) rise to the challenge of looting the enemy and their camp. Thankfully they don't find any resistance in the Ironband camp, easily spotting Hakon's tracks through the mud leading away from the center of the copse of trees where the camp lay.

The camp is a collection of six tents of varying sizes ringed around a large campfire--the embers of which are slowly dying in the noon sun. Other than personal possessions of little worth, nothing else is found. It would seem the Ironband members liked to keep what they owned of worth, on their person. No chests were found or warderobe, but a side table next to a cot had a note addressed to Hallfred to have a talk with Gordo of the Bucket of Blood Saloon because there's stuff missing from the last check on "the merchandise" stored there.

Relieving the dead of their armor and purses yield the following:

(3) breastplates
(2) longswords
(2) short bows
(26) arrows
(1) scale mail
(3) light steel shields
(2) warhammers
(2) heavy crossbows
(1) light crossbow
(1) light mace
(1) chain shirt
(10) daggers
289gp

Near the end of bundling all this equipment and gold, Grendel comes back from delivering Maikill at Penn's camp. As agreed upon, Penn called for a healer to come administer to the wounded. Gathering everything and making their way back to Penn's, the group rejoins in whole and takes stock of their situation. Penn's guest has just left and the healer he has called for arrives and tends to the wounded.

Everyone is healed back up to max hitpoints.

"How get here? I kill only two in fight, then they kill me two times. We win or lose?

then he looks over at the pile of loot, and his eyes grow big.

"We win!"

He walks over and fingers the chain shirt.

Back at the camp Grendel is uncharacteristically silent compared to her behavior on the cusp of battle. The loot is good and should provide a decent haul once split up amongst the group as it now stands. Her thoughts linger on the battle.

Considering we were outnumbered and all of our casters were spent, aside from her own spells, the battle went much better than it could have. It was close though. Plus some of our quarry got away. Though none of our group perished, there were multiple close calls.

Going over it as best she can, she still cannot come up with a better strategy than the one we used. She shakes her head to clear her mind and moves over toward Valla. "Good to see you in one piece. Aside from the loot, did you find anything else of interest?"

Xeron looks at the pile of armor and weapons, still covered in blood and gore. "Is this what I am destined to do? Kill and loot? Like I used to do in Mudtown? Is this what my life of good will be?"

As Sanjii is healed and goes probably inspect the loot, Xeron observes the others. "Why does this not feel right? Did the Ironband really mean to go after us? Could we have been manipulated into taking them down? For such a big bad group, they went easily down. May be something is not as clear as it appears. Is Penn telling the truth? Or playing us like a fiddle? Were the goblins realy ironband members? did we attack innocents?"

Lost in his thoughts, the rogue continues to try to make sense of the situation.

Valla winks at Sanji as he heads to Penns camp.

Back at Camp -- DM JIM
Tuesday October 13th, 2009 12:20:55 PM

After Penn's guests had left, the merchant listened carefully to what Valla had to say, unfortunately he didn't have much more to add. Penn did surmise that the Ironband was effectivily dead. He thought they had numbered about 20 when he hired their group, but couldn't be sure. With those killed and captured in both battles, that would leave them down to two, which would not be enough to restart such a group. Continuing to speak what was on his mind, he reminded Valla that he still had prisoners in their tent, waiting for a resolution--either the guards or Pig Alley. Thinking about it some more, Penn also wondered aloud that if the Ironband were engaging in some goblin attacks, where was all their loot?

I take it you left the dead and dying Ironband back in the copse of trees to their fate?

I guess we won and we all made it out alive. Hearing someone comment about a round of ale reminds Sanji that she is very hungry and thirsty. She takes a long pull from her water skin and splashes some on her face. Let's just hand these prisoners over to the authorities and be done with it. I, for one, am sick of babysitting. On the way back, I'll pick up enough ale for the lot of us. Mr. Penn, you're welcome to some as well. My treat.

The elf then turns to leave Penns tent, but then adds We will be giving the prisoners to the guards soon enough, not myself personally, I need some rest, but it will be done good sir.

wow... Thanks, I did over look that.. ::feels dumb::

Re-enactment of what Valla says.

Yes, they were wearing helmets of disguise when they attacked us, looking like goblins. A note we found in their camp seems to suggest that the loot from all their 'goblin' raids has been stolen or secretly moved by one of the greedier members of Iron Band. We, our group, havn't given it much thought yet, but those are my thoughts at the least.

With that Valla walks over to the bulk of the group, shaking his head as he see Grendel taking a ill-timed nap.

Sooner better than later, until that point I'll wait here, watching the camp, for your alls return He then winks at Sanji, With the ale hopefully, by the way. What do you guys think about the note? He was not about to promote his achievement. That was not him. And after all, he was used to be ignored by girls. The only one that ever paid attention to him were the ones he paid. Why would anything be different? Being good never meant that people would be nice to him.

I may be weak physicaly, but my spells more than make up for that orc! Valla knew Maikill wasn't talking about him personally, but the refrence to his race obviously upset the wizard. A flare in his eyes shows his frustration with the half-breed.

Trying to calm himself he turns to Bosk, a trusted friend... I think questioning him further will be a waste of time, but its your choice friend. As for the hats, I think we should sell them. The disguises they offer really arn't that useful. I mean I was spotted as me as soon as they laid eyes on me. Even though I had takin the appearance of Katrin. As for the rest of the stuff, sell it as well.

The elf then walks over to Xeron, places a hand on the rogues shoulder, Don't beat yourself up over things like this man. Lets just do this job, as best we can, and get into the city proper. Then we can really make a difference in this lawless town...

then he locks eyes with the small elf

Sanji (Eric) AC: 18/15/13 HP: 6
Wednesday October 14th, 2009 4:49:45 PM

I'll go with you to take the prisoners back. Let's get to it. I grow thristy!! Sanji pumps her fist in the air to add emphasis.

As for the loot, I don't think I'll be able to use much of it. All I really need is gold. I say we sell it off as quickly as we can. But, I would like to hang on to one of the helmets. That could come in handy for me. Suddenly, Sanji's face grows more serious. She places her balled fists on her hips and stands up straight.

While we're all here, perhaps we should address something else. How many of us nearly died? Two?... Three?... I know that I was a little shocked to see so many of us fighting alone or not being supported by others. Perhaps we should work on our Teamwork. I for one was shocked to see Valla overwhelmed as quickly as he was with so little help. Now, I'll admit that I'm not the best one on one fighter. But, I work very well with others. I tried this several times and it never seemed to work. My first attempt, I attacked a dwarf by myself while my 2 companions stayed behind. The second time I went in was to prevent Valla from being pinned to the ground with a sword. Sanji's chin falls to her chest as she remembers her failures in combat. In both instances, I failed to slay any opponents. Perhaps I would have had a better chance if I would have been working with another person. We need to work on this. If we ever get an opportunity to attack an opponent 2 on 1 or 3 on 1 we need to take it. It increases the chances of defeating the enemy and keeping ourselves alive.

Her sword hand begins scratching at her head as though she is trying to put the thoughts of the battle out of her mind.

I no call you Orc, you no call me puny! You protect elf, elf protect you. Understand? Valla speaks slow, and on Maikills level, then sighs, knowing he's only going to further escalate the situation Arguing with a large half-orc is probably not the best thing to do at the moment...

Maikill, stick with me. You cover me and I'll prove my worth, but in a melee combat I couldn't hardly stand up to one such as yourself, or even one lesser than yourself. I need a partner in the battles that are sure to come in the future. Fighting alone is not my expertise, thats for sure.

Valla motions to Sanji, Like she said, a plan. I suggest a sort of buddy system. At least for me. Sanji, Xeron and Myself should be paired up with one of you who are better at toe-to-toe melee combat. That would ensure us to stay alive... Longer at least...

The horned cleric smiles, glad to see people are getting along and trying to plan things out in advance for a change. I like the idea of working in pairs or small teams, however we should save this conversation until after we have taken care of our prisoners. No sense in risking them overhearing our plans and using it against us. Also, I agree with Valla, we probably don't need all of the helmets. However saving two or three as a group commodity may come in handy and would still line our pockets some. I am going to question Katrin to see what I can learn. Removing the helmet and returning to his regular form, the minotaur picks up some of the bloody armor, (preferably the broken breast plate, if Grendel will loan it to him) and marches over to Katrin. Dropping the armor in front of her he says [b]"The Iron Band has been destroyed. We have need of some more information from you, if you cooperate you leave here today. If you don't...then you will be joining the rest of the Iron Band."[b]
Bosk proceeds to question her about the note and it's meaning.

To anyone who was observing her it was plain to see that she had not parted with the magic item since getting her hands on it. The way she held it to her chest as she slept spoke to how much she valued it. Perhaps she knows the value of the item and is greedy for the gold... or maybe it is the value she finds in the magic that allows her to change form that has stirred her desire so.

Seeing Bosk come into the makeshift tent with the damaged armor and hearing his subsequent story, Katrin resigned herself to whatever her fate might become, "Yes, that's the name of the tavern we were supposed to meet up at and drop off the goods to be fenced. It is time to turn our captives over to the authorities. Katrin has been more than cooperative, and at least one of them was visited by Gargul while we were gone. We don't need any more bodies stinking up the camp.

I suggest we use the "buddy system" and continue working in groups of two or three. We will need to make a trip to the gaurds, to Pig Alley, and to gather information on the fenced goods. We also do not want to leave Penn unattended. I suggest we have no more than three people leave camp at a time. I am willing to transport the prisioners and go to Pig Alley, but I feel there are others better suited for gathering the information on the fenced goods. I can also sell our "loot" and bring back the gold and anything we need purchased.

Spell recuperation -- DM JIM
Friday October 16th, 2009 10:59:33 AM

We've discussed this on another game and in the rules section, and in the Wold, spell recuperation is going to be limited to once a day--usually rememorizing and praying in the morning, or at least after 24 hours has passed.

Maikill HP 14/14, AC15/12/13/13
Friday October 16th, 2009 11:30:54 AM

Maikill grabs the dead body(s) and throws them on the cart.

"I get rid of dead ones. How bout this one, it dead?"

He points to an unconscious prisoner and prepares to throw him onto the cart as well.

"I go throw these away, be back soon."

Maikill will go on his own unless someone decides to tag along.

Xeron AC AC15 HP 7/7
Friday October 16th, 2009 11:41:13 AM

Xeron finally speaks. "I will guard Penn. No ones worries."

He says to HIMSELF "Why are we going after the IronBand loot? This is stolen stuff. Is it for us to keep or to give back to the rightful owner? I am so confused."

He watches Maikill get the dead bodies on the cart. "This guy is quite strong. Must be nice to be that strong."

Valla AC:16/16/12 HP:6/6
Friday October 16th, 2009 12:05:13 PM

Valla nods to Bosk and Maikill, Sure, Maikill disposes of the bodies in Pig alley, Bosk sells this stuff, buying whatever equipment we might be needing. Padre, I think should go to the tavern. He's the silver tongue of this group, as everyone knows. If not him alone, possible Sanji and Motely should go with him. I'll stay here with Xeron and guard Penn. I won't be much use in any battle that may break out, so staying with the bulk of the group is my best option.

The elf plops down on one of the log benches around the fire pit, Bosk, you think you might find a healing potion? I figure selling most of those hats will bring a pretty penny. A healing potion would allow me to at least tend my own wounds once. In the midst of battle, a quick healing would lift much off your, Padre and Grendel's shoulders. Keep me alive a bit longer as well I think.

OOC: DM Jim; Healing Potions? Would they be available in Mud Town? Would selling one of the helmets cover the price? What would be the price? According to the 3.5 PHB, a lvl 1 CLW potion would be like 76gp. Adding in the xp cost as gp, and raw materials. But this is to brew the potion yourself. It would be a bit more expensive, to buy off someone else right?

-- you do not know of any sources to buy magical items at this time. Brewing it yourself is half the cost with an added XP cost. d20srd.org has all the list prices under magic items. -- DM JIM

ETA: the half cost means you have to have a source to buy the material components, luckily you have a source in Mr. Penn, for now.

The plan?-- DM JIM
Saturday October 17th, 2009 5:50:17 PM

LMK what you guys are going to do. It's about 1pm in the afternoon. You have two live captives, the half-orc you re-knocked out and Katrin. There are 8 helms of disguise, who is holding one, or some?

Valla will sit at the camp, keeping alert for any invaders. Giving the helmet he has to Bosk to sell in town. He sets on a log around the camp fire, awaiting everyone elses return, from turning in the captives, selling items and dropping bodies off at pigs alley.

Grendel is sleeping at Penn's camp. She's got one of the helms of disguise tucked in her arms. She returned the suit of scale mail she borrowed and paid for the broken suit of breastplate armor, which has since been borrowed by Bosk. Her plan is to wake at 9pm and pray for her spells, then take the night watch in it's entirety.

Unless told otherwise, Bosk will sell all unclaimed items. This appears to be all but two helmets. One in the custody of Grendel and the one Bosk wants set aside as "Group" property for use as needed by whoever needs it (for the benifit of the group). If things are done in shifts, he will also help Maikill with the bodies. It sounds as though Valla's potion will be taken care of here at camp. As I mentioned before, I perfer another character tries to gather information, as Bosk is not skilled in that area. However, if no one else wishes to Bosk will keep an ear out for information.

That afternoon -- DM JIM
Monday October 19th, 2009 12:29:44 PM

As Maikill loads up the cart with another dead body, leaving Katrin and her unconscious half-orc companion behind, while Sanji and Padre head out to the Bucket of Blood saloon. The rest stay behind to do their duty and guard Penn, who has excused himself for a few hours to go see how the "number" situation has progressed to figure out about when he'll be allowed to enter the city proper. Bosk temporarily accompanies him, but is looking for a place to sell the group booty they have gotten, not thinking that perhaps the Bucket of Blood saloon which houses a fence, would have been a good cover story for them to get a foot in the door. Penn shows Bosk a reputable place, takes his leave, and the Taur receives 5sp on the gold for the sold items after negoitations are made(50% value, 6200gp total, including items taken from 1st Ironband battle).

Valla prepares in his mind the necessary ingredients to make a potion or two, but reconciles the fact that he has no "lab" to brew them in, nor knows anyone who would lend or lease him access to one.

Xeron tends the fire with Valla as they keep guard duty.

Grendel sleeps and dreams of a large frog donning a custard crown and a thin crepe-like cape which Grendel promptly eats.

Motley also stands guard duty and cleans his gear of the blood and muck of the last battle.

Maikill eventually makes it to Pig Alley which is as he had last seen it--a pockmark on the face of the Wold. Unloading the body the half-orc spies something out of the corner of his eye, something moving amongst the dead bodies in the chasm below (Maikill, please make a Will Save DC15).

In the meantime, Sanji and Padre arrive at the Bucket of Blood saloon and find that it's a rather upscale kind of place--at least for Mudtown. There are hardwood floors, a sturdy bar, plenty of tables and even a minstrel playing music for the clientiele. In comparison to city taverns, the BoB would definitely rate -1 stars, something of an accomplishment amongst the muddy streets of Mudtown. They quickly discern the owner, Gordo, who after careful consideration by the pair, has all the attributes of a weasel in human form. (Please make a Gather information roll if you wish to find any thing out). Inquiring about buying a keg of ale, the cost seems a bit prohibitive at 50gp (Diplomacy roll to lower price if you want to try).

Making sure the fire stay warm, Xeron chit chats with Valla "Elf, why of all places, would you decide to excercise your art in Mudtown? I had no choice. I was born here and drank sewer water instead omilk. I am tainted by this place as it is in forever in me. By why would anyone come here is beyong me. Thee are better place to adventure I believe. "

He stops and puts another log in the fire. "This place is rotten to the core and contaminate its inhabitants. Even if one makes it out of Mudtown by luck, they are still dirty inside, their soul soiled forever. Why would anyone come here voluntarily?"

He stops and looks at Valla deep in the eyes "You seem to have enough experience to survive but I am a little concern about the rest of the group. They are going their way in Mudtown like it is a gentle elf forest village or a town controlled by law and justice. They will lose gold and hopefully that is all they will lose."

Maikill's senses are overwhelmed and he takes off screaming at the top of his lungs, running as fast as he can from the unknown entity--then he immediately stops and says, "Blasuee, sjele audlog qofu! Kduin!" Turning, Maikill spots a lone spider making it's way across a fallen twig on the ground and jumps on it repeatedly, killing it many times over. Burning rage in his eyes, he runs back from where he came from, finally reaching the cart he left behind, only to start screaming again and running away from the area once again at full speed. Eventually he returns to his senses and see's that he's about 160' away from the cart, out of breath, and no longer feeling confused.

Gasping more from the fear and dread than from the exertion, the large half-orc stops to gather his wits. Something was down there, something bad. Glancing at the cart he can also see the edge of the pit, thankfully he cannot see into it. He could go back for it, but that something is still there.

Making a decision, Maikill heads back to the camp leaving the cart at the pit.

Stepping with confidence into camp, Maikill pronounces:

"Threw body into pit. It no problem now. What we do now?"

he makes no mention of the creature in the pit or his overwhelming fear.

With a proud look he smiles warmly at Xeron.

"I am so glad I spend to gold to have Mom burned and her ashes spread over flowers. I would never forgive myself if she had been dumped in Pig Alley. " His eyes turn dark as he remembers how he got the gold needed for that.

Grendel grimaces visibly at Xeron's question. "Let me consider your words for a bit...?" is her only reply. After walking silently for a while she seems to have found the words she was looking for. "It is hard for me to say. I've been around humans for only a short time... but I watch and listen... and learn quickly. My own people are rough. When an orc female is interested in a man she will make it a point to be found in his presence. This often merits increased beatings. A woman who can take this abuse and appealing to his eye will soon find herself mating with him."

"Humans are not so different. Females tend to inconvenience themselves just to be near a man they fancy. Unless they are overwhelmingly charming, men often scorn these early advances. If she is pleasing to his eye and continues to pursue him eventually the female will succeed in mating with the man through ceremony or otherwise."

With a mischevious grin she adds, "Why, who catches your eye Xeron?"

As he continues to speak about the circumstances of his attending to prostitutes she frowns... deeply. "Every person has an innate need to be loved Xeron. Though your solutions to this need up to this point have been shameful, there is no shame in the longing. Flower teaches us that, even though there are many ways to fill this need in our lives, the beautiful union of one man and one woman in the bonds of lifelong commitment is the very best solution."

"Fighting is not the problem. I can fight fine and my style might not be as impressive as Maikill here, but it can be as deadly. It is just that I can never think of anything witty or smart or even how to approach a girl. Not sure how to talk to them. I can go steal their purse or cut their throat without problem. However, if I need to talk to them, I simply cannot. This is why it is easier with the Ladies of Pleasure Alley. They do all the talking for you."

He laughs as Grendel talks about marriage "Why would any woman with her right mind spend her life with me? I am .... "

He stops and get tense for a few seconds before continuing "So, talking about commitment, ... where is Mr. Grendel? You could not find anyone that could beat you up?"

Grendel just shakes her head. "You just don't get it." she says and quickens her pace to walk a little in front of Maikill, Bosk and Xeron. She uses this solitude to work through some thoughts.

Those years were tough years. I was barely a woman when I caught them giving me looks. I wiggled out of nearly a dozen 'close calls' before it occurred to me that leaving might be my only option. I figured that since humans were weak I could survive here by brute strength. Jumping in the river might not have been a wise decision as it battered me worse than any beating, but the shores it left me on were near a human monastery of the goddess Flower. It was during my recovery that I learned the beauty of kindness and began to understand the arts of healing. As I walk this divine path I find myself in Hook City and surely I will learn the arcane mysteries here as well. And once I've mastered both paths...

She whispers under her breath to herself, "...I will return one day to my people." The quiet statement spoken as a vow, as powerful as the will of the girl speaking it.

Actually, she is more interested in the hidden supply of goods, but if there is two things that motivates males it is a woman possibly in need of help and free liquor.

With that she turns to leave Pig Alley and makes her way to the Bucket of Blood tavern.

Funeral train -- DM JIM
Friday October 23rd, 2009 5:01:24 AM

As the somber retinue of the deceased pass the quartet, Bosk politely inquires of some of the procession about who the funeral is for. The Taur learns that a rather rich merchant, a Reginald Perrfold who made his home in Mudtown, was slain in the dead of night, two days past. No one knows who did it, but Bosk does learn that the man died a gruesome death--his head had been cracked open and most of his brain consumed.

Not willing to pay Gordo his asking price for the barrel of ale, Sanji puts that idea to rest. Noticing the warriors on guard, a new idea enters her mind. Ok Gordo, we both know that the price is high. But that's fine. You are aloud to sell your product for what ever you would like. I guess I'll have to wait to replenish my personal ale stock. Do you make your own ale or buy it from another supplier?

Giving Gordo a little time to answer, Sanji then scans the patrons again looking and listening for anything out of the ordinary.*,** I've notices that you have a rather small number of people working security. Even though they seem to be very capable people, I'm surprised that any tavern in Mud Town would make it with so few bouncers. Are you by chance looking for more help? I've heard that the Iron Band used to frequent here so I guess it's possible that you got "protection from them. I also hear that they are officially out of commission as of today. Rumor has it that you performed certain services for them. Those people looking for work along the streets of Mud Town can't stop talking about it. Personally, I think the Iron Band got what they deserved. It also opens the door for others to make a profit in their absece. I've just joined a group myself and we may be looking for some services that someone like yourself could provide. If I'm wrong and you have nothing to offer, I'll leave you to your work.***,****

Not sure if she will make a dent in Gordo's defences, Sanji is prepared to leave and return to the camp.

Bosk Deox: AC 14/10/10 HP 14 of 14 Will Save=7  d20=11 ;
Friday October 23rd, 2009 4:06:09 PM

I was just figuring out how to divide up the gold.
According to my notes:
Valla still owes 310*.9=279 for the MW Short Sword
Grendel has a 1800GP helm...that can't be paid off at the moment.
Since no one objected, Bosk is currently carrying the groups helm.
Grendel also paid 20 GP for the Breastplate, which I will split up with the gold.

Questions
1)Does anyone else have any loot I overlooked? Armor (I believe all that was borrowed was returned) or the MW Dagger?
2)Do we want to assume Lenwe, Ariman, and Naru gave / forfeited their share to Grendel, Maikill, and Motley in order to keep the game balanced?
3)Grendel cannot afford the helm by our current rules...but since there were eight helms, does anyone mind if we view it as Grendel kept her share?

I have not seen Sanji. Who knows? She might be entertaining them at the Blood Inn.

The horned one came back but did not discuss loot. I trust him he will have it properly sold and split.

And the orcs and the mino stops to see a funeral. Strange hobby
"

He goes back guarding and more guarding .....

Valla nods his head at Xerons statements, Bosk will do it fairly; What did Maikill see at Pigs Alley? And keeps his eyes and ears open for anything and everything.

OOC Loot:
Bosk; 8 helmets means we all should get one, right? if its worth 1800gp; then Valla should recive 1521gp from 'his' helmet alone. (Or 621gp if sold at half-price for 900gp) Then his share of the rest of the loot, this would 'pay' off the MW short sword. Or, take the full amount of gold we get, divide by all of us (besides Grendel), then -279 from Valla and divide that among everyone else (besides Grendel). Yes, Grendel keeping the Helmet should be her full share of the loot; in my opinon.

Besides the MW short sword, MW dagger and the helmets; below is what we found when the Iron band came to us:
1 silver dagger
2 chain shirts (1 small)
2 leather armor
2 scale mail
2 light steel shields
3 shortbows with 10 arrows each
4 light crossbows with 10 bolts each
6 darts
3 longswords
2 heavy maces

Treasure splitting -- DM JIM
Friday October 23rd, 2009 6:22:11 PM

The easiest way would be:

6200/8 = 775gp each

Valla owes 310*.5 = 155gp, so he would receive 620gp and the rest would receive an additional 155/7 = 22gp 1sp 4cp

Grendel owes 1800*.5 = 900gp, so she owes the group 105gp (less 20gp she put in) and everyone else gets 775/7 = 110gp 7sp 1cp + 2gp 8sp 6cp (20gp she put in).

Make sense?

Sanji gives several glances behind her as she leaves the saloon.* Well that certainly was a waste of time. Sanji makes her way back to the camp empty handed. With defeat writen across her face, Sanji takes a seat next to Xeron and hangs her head. There seems to be something fishy going on at the Bucket of Blood Saloon. What ever it is, they don't want to tell anyone else about it. They only have 2 bouncers working but they seem to know what they are doing. And to top it all off, that piece of garbage owner, Gordo, would give me a reasonable price for ale. 45 gold for a keg. Can you believe that? Well it looks like I'll have to wait to buy a round when we are all at a tavern next.

Glancing around the camp, Sanji wrinkles her nose and gives a sniffle. Where is everyone else?

Looking around the camp, Bosk begins to worry about the group's current situation. Not only did we manage to lose our employer's horse and cart, but now we seem to have lost Penn himself. This will probably cost us a hundred gp or so to replace, and it won't be good for our reputation. What if Penn was called to enter the city? This could be bad, I should have stayed with Maikill! I didn't even realize we had been separated. We were supposed to dump the bodies after we sold the loot, I should have been more clear.

Trying to forget their predicament for the moment, Bosk begins to divide up the gold, hoping he counted everything right.

Somewhat depressed by the thought of the missing cart and Penn's conspicuous absence, the Horned Cleric makes up his mind--Bosk calls the group together to addresses the situation at hand. Penn has been gone too long. We should have had someone go with him, but its too late for that now. I suggest half of us leave to gather information and search for Penn while the other half stay here and guard camp. If those looking for Penn hear anything about the funeral procession, the Iron Band, or the fenced goods let us know, but that is a secondary priority. My suggestion is is that Maikill and Motely stay here. They have proven themselves in battle, and we will be more likely to need good warriors here at camp. I suggest that Padre and two others skilled with words or gathering information go with me to to look for Penn. My role in the group will be more for protection. I am not quite as skilled as Motely and Maikill, but we are less likely to face an organized attack in town.

As the group decides what they are going to do, Bosk places a hand on Xeron's shoulder and gives him the faintest smile. Are you coming with me, or staying to guard the camp?
