Return to the Festival
Thursday August 22nd, 2013 10:48:15 PM

The group heads out of the cave to locate a defensible spot for an overnight stay. Terser is able to locate one within about 30 minutes and soon an overnight camp is set and the Grim Guard start drifting off to sleep. Terser stands first watch and Karnas lets it known that Chak is going to be going through a metamorphosis during the overnight hours. In the morning the sorcerer believes that if his studies and preparations have been correct at least, but that Chak will have telepathic capabilities. Thus being able to relay what Sam and now Bruagh might want to say though one cannot and the other has taken a vow of silence in support of Sam.

The night passes and another mighty dawn breaks in the Scab. The rush of the previous evening's experience has left Terser and he is now felling the affects of not sleeping. Terser is fatigued The Guard stow and break camp and head back towards the Stone Festival location with the grim news to give to the clan lord. Thus far none has spoken about what they might say to him, how might he react or the Demon for that matter. By the days end the matter is going to settled.

Karnas (L1-2 L2-1 L3- 2): AC12/12/10 - CMD13 - HP20/40 , Cark AC: 19/16/17 - CMD 14 - HP 20/20, Blindsense 20'

Karnas followed with the group to the location, taking to bed early and rising early as he spends a hour in contemplation of new knowledge as he works and manipulates several of the spell frameworks over Cark that only he could see, shifting and molding her form slowly from the slightly modified bat to something far more unique and capable. After about a hour of consistent work, her transformation is complete and she bursts from where she laid to fly above the camp, taking advantage of her new wings and letting out a loud cry of bliss at her new form before flying back down and landing either on Sam's shoulder or outside of his tent, looking to him as she sent him a telepathic message. To Sam: "Hello there, I'm going to be your translator for a while until the 'oh-so-grand god of easily bruised ego' decides to stop being a jackass. Just think at me me what you want to say and to whom and I'll relay it word for word, I can hear you from...." She jumped off his shoulder, opening her wings and using a couple short flaps to land about 60' from him. To Sam: "About this far away. I'll try and stay close, but for when I can't, pick some sound such as a snap of your fingers or a whistle or whatever, tell me what your going to use now, and whenever I hear it an am out of range I'll come over.

OOC:
For sake of ease, Cark's new appearance.
For Cark's telepathy, If it's not said who she's addressing in particular assume it's the group as a whole. Most of the time she will address single targets though.
@ Sam: Until Sam regains his voice, I'm giving you full control to speak through Cark at will. Just keep in mind that it has a 60' range and there's no control of her movement unless you ask me via email or IC.
@ DM If possible, I'd like to have her weight be 4 or 5 pounds, but that's not re-skinning technically, so if it's not allowed it's fine

Devlin wakes with the rest of the group to see Terser has stood watch all night. He pats the stolid Dwarf on his shoulder in thanks and imparts some magical energy to him.

Best we move out lads. It still be a walk ta the festival grounds and I would rather get this over with. Devlin travels with the group doing his best to keep them on course and out of danger. His thoughts clouded by words he cant find. How do ye tell a king his daughter has been turned into a unholy abomination, let alone the fact that she be with child. His thoughts flit back to Riddleport and the hellspawn that was born there. Its shrieking wail still imprinted on his memory. The druid stumbles for a moment but Raeb is at his side to help steady him. He gives her a pat and continues the journey.

Sam silently hugs and shakes hands with his dwarven brothers. Tears fill the eyes of the muted bard as he hands over the newly found diary. He begins his journey whose purpose is unknown to the Grim Guard. Perhaps he is going into hiding from a deep, dark dispare. Maybe he is seeking atonement for his words against Gargul. Or possibly the gnome could be searching for a worldly cure for his golden tongue. Those that watch as he leaves can only guess. In their hearts they feel that their paths could cross again, but for now they are without their gnome, their bard, and most importantly...their dear friend Sam.

Ooc- It has been an awesome journey. Goodbye my brothers.

Return to the Festival
Monday August 26th, 2013 10:48:18 PM

The walk back to the festival grounds is uneventful save one thing. That one thing, being Sam's decision to walk a different path. The gnome was going to put the Grim Guard behind him, at least for a time. The events of the last few months may have overwhelmed him, perhaps he needed time, the guard may never know and that may be one of the hardest parts of the bards departure. The mystery around and circumstances about the decision. The unknown in this way was always the hardest on those left behind.

in light of Sam's leaving, the conversation to be had with Ironbane about his daughter pales slightly. The clan lord may have to wait a bit longer

OoC I'm sorry for your loss Mark

Clan Lord Ironbane
Tuesday August 27th, 2013 9:59:35 PM

The group marches in relative silence, with Sam's departure weighing on most of them. The day's walk back to the location of the Stone Festival is uneventful outside of spotting birds of prey on the thermals high above and the occasional sign of mountain goats and deer. With still a good hour before the sun moves behind the high peaks of the Scab, the Stone Festival grounds come into view. The Clan lords great pavillion and 3 other smaller tents are all that remain in the area to mark it differently than any other section of partially cleared area in the Sacb Mountains.

Several of the lords men spot the group rounding a high stone and move towards the pavillion to alert Ironbane of your return. You arrive at pace and are informed Ironbane is waiting.

Clan Lord Ironbane
Wednesday August 28th, 2013 10:45:18 PM

The dwarven guard, a pair of stout warriors open the flaps of the pavilion and announce you. "Clan lord Ironbane! The Grim Guard have returned!" No one steps up to ask for weapons or any other question. Entering the pavilion, you find Fifur Ironbane standing just to the right of the small throne he was using during the festival to greet all comers. The trio of dwarves, the channelers who summoned the Deamon Ashtrious, stand just off to Ironbanes left. They stare placidly at you, almost through you. You see no other dwarves about, none of the lords regular guard and those that let you in did not follow. As it was last time you were in his presence with the these strange three dwarves in robes.
Your boots falls upon the rugs seem muffled, as does the clink of mail and steel of your armor. Again you also note that while this time there is not so much outside noise, again none seems to penetrate the canvas walls.

Fifur Ironbane looks at you with eyes that have not slept and perhaps have had their fair share of drink. A sidelong glance spots at least one empty cask in the rear. His brow furrows as his eyes narrow, "You return without my beloved Tali. I would know why."

My lord Ironbane.Devlin says with a bow. We followed the lead to a cavern under The Scab. Before we could enter we were attacked by the giants that have been causing problems. After dispatching them we were able to enter the cavern. Almost as soon as we stepped in we were again assaulted. This time by a horde of undead, the foul creatures were everywhere. Once we were finally able to push through the horde we found a Sorcerer who had been controlling the undead. Apparently he was the one who captured your daughter and who controlled the undead. Devlin gets a sad look in his face and lets out a short sigh. It grieves me to tell you this my Lord but your daughter was given to necromancers for them to do their foul work. We've seen it before in Riddleport. She's been made one of the thinking undead. I'm sorry you have to hear this but you need to know. She escaped us before we could capture her and killed the sorcerer in the process. Devlin runs his hand over his face and rubs his temples. It also appeared that she, she was with child. Fifur Ironbane stares at Devlin his fingers digging into the back portion of the stone throne in front of him as the druid relays what has befallen his only daughter. His face reddens with each passing word, his hands tightening with his jaw and blood sprouts from several fingers as the Ironbanes fingernails prove to not be up to the task of penetrating stone.
A heartbeat passes for the time Devlin stops speaking to Bruagh stepping forward and placing a hand upon his brother's shoulder. Another heartbeat and then if Tali ironbanes scream was that of death and hate, it is with all the rage any mortal can muster that Fifur Ironbane roars. At first, but only for the merest moment does it seem like the clan lords anger is pointed at you.

The clan lord Ironbane's fury rivals anything the Grim Guard has ever seen. Ironbane grabs the small stone throne and topples it from its place. His furious anger then falls upon the 3 dwarves, the channelers, who were the conduit to bring forth Ashtrious.
"You knew! You KNEW she was gone! YOU KNEW she was lost! All this time! She laid not a league from here and YOU KNEW!"

Fifur Ironbane lunges at them, covering the 10' in the span of a heartbeat and with a final shout of his daughter's name levels one of them with a punch to the face. The dwarf's face explodes in blood as his head snaps back violently and he crumples to the ground in agony

The channelers are all on their knees, bowing their heads and throwing themselves at the Stonelords mercy. One of them is bloodied badly by Fifurs rage. When Terser intervenes, Fifur takes a step away and turns his back on the channeler and Terser.

He signals to his guards who bring him his axe.

"I'll be killin' these channelers now. And ye'll be gettin' outta my way. Going through you is as go an option as any lad.""

Fifurs face is puffy and swollen. His hard eyes shift to the Channelers of Ashtrious who are begging still, planting their faces in the dirt.

Terser tries to think of what Sam would do in this situation, if his golden tongue had not become golden in truth. He knows his talents lie in other directions, but he would want to do the bard proud.

Yer a blaygird fool, Ironbane. Ye couldn't find hide nor hair of your daughter until these dwarves put their souls in the hands of some foul demonic being, and all ye can think is that they didn't damn themselves earlier for your convenience? It seems that they are the only lead ye have for finding her again, in whatever form she may be inhabiting. All magics can be reversed, but not if you destroy everyone that can attempt the proper spells! If ye were so concerned about your daughter, why did ye not offer your own soul to the demon for the knowledge of where she was? Now these channelers, the Grim Guard, and meself, are going to track down your daughter again and bring her back to be restored to her normal, beautiful dwarven self, and ye are going to sit in your throne and lead your clan like a sensible man until we succeed.

Ironbane glowers at the Grim Guard, all of whom have now stood between him and his revenge. He grips his axe tighly and takes another step closer to the channelers. Tears well up in his eyes as he spares another glance the the prostrate dwarves. Dwarves who were chosen by Ashtrious and accepted his burden for the benefit of all dwarves in The Scab..

Roaring in frustration, Ironbane turns and hurls his weapon, sending it spinning in lazy circles until it strikes the massive throne on which he had been sitting. His rage seemingly buried along with the axe's head, he turns and then claps a heavy hand on Terser and Devlins shoulders.

"Thank ye lads. I .. I nearly did something terrible. I be owin' this group not only for your service at the festival and for killin' undead and giants, but fer stopping a raging clan lord from committin' murder.

He glances at Oathbreaker and eyes his bow.

"Though I have a feelin' that one woulda pin cushioned me before I could have followed through."

He pulls away from the Grim Guard and nods gruffly before stepping past them to the channelers. He helps the one he struck to his feet, then pats him roughly on the back. He looks up and dismisses his guards.

"Sorry. I treated ye downright piss poor. Ashtrious will be upset I'm sure. Maybe it's lost a daughter.. or spawn.. or whatever a daemon has fer offspring..I dunno. Either way I have a final request as Stone Lord. Grant these dwarves another audience. Do this and I'll ask naught else of you this year."

Fifur walks back to his axe, embedded in the stone throne. He grips it and wrenches the weapon back and forth, loosing pieces of stone from the overturned throne. Finally, he plants his feet and tugs, and the throne lets loose in a shower of rock.

He looks down at his feet, examining the large chunks of rock. He selects one and clasps it in his hand, then closes his eyes and chants a few words in an old dwarven dialect. There is a faint blue glow from his hand, and then he hands the stone to Braugh.

"You'll not see that often. It's called a Marker. It's a bit of old blood magic that resides within Clan Lords. Ye can take that to ANY Clan Lord in the scab to call in a debt or favor and as long as you aren't askin' for their heads or something ridiculous, they'll honor it. Tradition binds them to do it. The magic will tell me when you turn it in, to whom, and whether or not they honored your request. Use it wisely."

He walks back away from the group and rests his axe, then turns back to you.

" I'm torn lads. Torn deep. Part of me wants to demand or shout that ye go out and get back my daughter and these mages, but I'll not do it. You've been bandied and bustled about, sent on one errand and the next fer awhile now. I set ye free of my service and elevate you to the status of Honored of Clan Ironbane. Once word travels, you'll find people within my realm more than happy to bend over backwards ye, and they well should. I'll set my own people on tracking down Tali, but I doubt they'll be as successful as ye would. Yer free now to pursue an agenda of your choosing and I'll hold you no ill will for whatever that may be..."

He bows to you all.

"Seek out the Channelers and Ashtrious at your leisure. And if ye do see Tali out there somewhere, finish her quickly if she is beyond salvation. Her and the babe. I'll not have them suffer."

The Clan Lord waits to answer any questions you might have before cleaning up the mess from his outburst.

DM Ken OOC: Hey all! Consider this MODULE wrapped up! We will be moving into downtime now, so if there's any thing you wish to accomplish, let us know! There's 2000xp per dwarf for stopping Ironbane from killing the Channeler. Also, add Clan Iron bane Marker to someones list of magical items. You've also gained a title, because dwarves like titles! Honored of Clan Ironbane can be used any time you introduce yourself, should you wish to get fancy. It also might have some gameplay benefits in certain areas. =)

Also, expect to see a circular email coming from Dan and I. We would appreciate everyones inputs, as it directly impacts the way we run and shape YOUR game.

Lastly, a hero point for Terser, from the DM's, for the battle in the caves. Please email me and dan a vote for a second character to receive a hero point based on your feelings about the battle and the encounter with gargul.

Terser, Honored of Clan Ironbane (Warren G): HP 82/82 - AC 21/13/21 - CMD 24 (raging HP 100/100, AC 19/11/19 - CMD 26)  d20+4=24 ;

Terser lets himself calm down, then helps the channelers to their feet, and offers to tend their wounds as best as he can. He surprises himself with how easily the binding of wounds and stitching of cuts comes back to him, and thinks to himself how useful and appreciated these skills can be.

Heal - 24 (nat 20)
