Yes, Delrid will seal the path behind with a 20-foot radius web. Hopefully some we can catch some "Z"s, avoid hooking up with burners, and come out of this smelling like roses (prestedigitation cantrip).

A frown lines Jarga's forehead as he considers the jets of flame erupting from the ground; his steed and friends are not as used to the stinging lick of flame as he is and he worries for them.

He pulls out his wand of Shifting Sands and calls out to them :

Delrid positions a webbing strung between large boulders and the walls of the crevice behind you.
A dozen Zombies are instantly caught in the web and become utterly entangled, but two manage to scratch through. (Your DC is 18 right?)

Luckily, BlackAxe stands at the wall of webbing and slashes it to ribbons with two quick flicks of his axe (Hit AC 20 for 13 damage)
The Black-Bearded enlarged Dwarf smiles through the gore, "They've slowed to a trickle, check your flank Stormbringer!

Three run around a corner, moaning ravenously, but Braugh turns it into pixie dust with a swipe of his axe (You cant mount a Large animal while Large yourself, smash)
Two more slam into your shield (miss AC 13 and 3), scratching wildly.

Tahni heals Starbright with a pat of her mane, and she seems to calm quite a bit. She is still quite shaken though and stutters on every other step (Handle animal to improve this)

Devlin and Sam lead the pack into the dark and unknown fiery pit. They dodge bursts of flame from the ground.

Please make perception checks.

Tally follows and you hear a Yelp!

You smell burnt saddle as his horse bucks in protest and you see a patch of fur missing with scorched skin on both rider and ridee. (Reflex save nat 1!!! 3 fire damage to Tally)

The Cleric of Flower says, "I do declare it is hot here." He taps his holy necklace, whispering Airconditio, and a cool breeze wafts from him. Highlight to display spoiler: {Endure Elements}

Then he digs through his backpack and draws a scroll, "I have one Resist Energy Scroll. Perhaps your horse?"

Everyone who walks down the path must succeed a DC 10 Reflex save or take 3 fire damage. Rider's saves double for your mount's

"Bah, sodding fire!" Tahni curses as the flames lick at her and her pony. (Reflex save: 8 = Nat 1 = Fail. 3Dmg.) She does her best to control Starbright, but this pony sure doesn't handle well under pressure (Handle Animal: 8).

"I sure hope this helps, girl" she speaks, once again touching the pony's mane (Cast Endure Elements on Starbright)

She continue to follow Delrid and Tally.

(OOC: Were just using maps as a supplement to the action, no need for exact movements, just what you perceive and react to. Missing people?)

After receiving a burning steam vent to the back, and Tahni Casts Abjuration fmagic from the Scroll, protecting Starbright in a cool 70degree shield. She stretches her neck with pleasure and trots lightly

plop Zed head rolls as the still enlarged Braugh (Its 3minutes duration, you may dispel when you wish though, it's been two since it was cast. 10 Posts/ Rounds left)

Siv quickly lances one between the eyes before riding into the chasm, dodging flames alongside Enlarged BlackAxe.

And then the Cavalieress sees glittering Red covered in ash through the smoke to the North. (Anyone who becomes aware, Appraisal or Knowledge Mining or a similar ability to know Highlight to display spoiler: {"Where there is volcanic activity, there is also great pressure under the crust. Carbon aligns in beautiful geometries. This could be Valuable..."}

Sam goes to the right and sees a large pool of bubbling Lava, and only a small ledge leading further that way. It would be a balancing act to cross.

Tahni continues to guide Starbright at half pace with the rest of the party. Focusing on the task at hand, she fails to notice much else in the immediate vicinity (Perception: 13).

"I don't know how much longer that web will last, but given how easily they go up in flames, you might be able to take a few zombies down if you set it alight. Of course, waiting til we're as far away as possible would be nice too!" Tahni calls to Delrid and Jarga.

Always looking for additional uses for her favourite orison, Tahni will keep an eye out for any potential fiery vents in her path and douse them with cool water (Cast Create Water - 6gallons - at any nearby vents)

OOC: Not sure what DC is needed to get the info in the spoiler. Also, I envision when the water hits the vents, we get a ton of steam instead of fire. What do they call that, out of the frying pan and into the fire?

Sam rides up to the chasm and does his best to assess the difficulty of the path across. (DC?)

If we can make it across here, we could probably watch most of these zombies fail and fall into the fire. I can give anyone unsure a few words of encouragement to help them across.

Jarga looks around, slightly unsure as to where he is in all of the confusion. He looks across to Tahni, acknowledging her idea with a thumbs up. Looking back whilst riding with the others, he waits either until the web is just diminishing from view. Narrowing his eyes and peering intently at the web in the distance he lets loose another pair of missiles. They whisk towards the web and a trapped zombie and connect with a small whoosh.

" I'm running low on energy guys... I can slow them with Girtha's gift from now on, but hurting these fiends might be up to you for a while! "

Delrid heaves another web behind to slow any zeds that trickle through. By now their numbers must be diminishing through jet of flame, combat, and lack of mobility through the crevasse.

Delrid will attempt to create an illusion of a rocky wall immediately behind the next flame jet the party passes. Hopefully this silent image will cause the undead horde to pause in the heart of a lethal flaming envelope.

Hopefully being the operative word...

Steam erupts from the vents as Tahni shoots jets of water into them at her feet.

(This effectively lowers the Reflex DC to avoid flames by 2 for everyone)

Jarga gets worried he is running on fumes and Tahni notices that if you light the webbing, the dozen zombies stuck in the stuff will also be toast... but that may free up the path to increase the flow.

The Web holds strong, slowing the rush of Zombies to a slow trickle.

Delrid makes an illusionary rocky wall in front of a jet of flame as the Zombies charge towards it.
Four run around the corner and charge right through the wall, smashing into Braugh's shield. And the Paladin effectively slashes one to bits.A bout of flame dissolves one Zed to ashes in seconds. If you move, you will incur AOO for the remaining 2... but they can be dispatched easily.

It seems they operate on smell?

Sam suggests crossing the ledge as a group, hoping the zeds will fall to their doom as the group does a balancing act.

To the Left, Devlin sees the valuable ruby-red gem residing before him and a path beyond it is as trecherous with bouts of flame and lava as the path behind him.

The DC to appraise the value of the Ruby Gem is about 12 for a rough estimate, higher results give more accuracy.

(Everyone succeed on DC 8 Reflex or take 8 fire damage)

Sam easily dodges the flames (reflex 20) and looks back to the rest of the group.

Which way are we going? We could loose a lot of zombies in the fire when the fall off this ledge, but I'm worried that we might also fall in. Any ideas?

Devlin eyes the gem noting its worth. He guides shade closer and hops down to grab it. He is back in his saddle in an instant. He dodges through the gouts of flame and meets up with the group. Sam's way may be more treacherous but it will probably be the best way ta destroy more of the Zeds. The other way is just more of what we have been through. The rogue looks at the ever present horde and shakes his head. With so many of them I don't think we can afford ta play safe if we want ta live through this.

Question to DM: How wide is the ledge? Could the horses walk it? I'm just wondering whether another web spell from Delrid (attached to the edge of the ledge, and then to a point on the wall above it may act as a kind of safety barrier to stop people from falling in. Granted, they could be tangled for a round or two if they lost their balance - but they wouldn't be crispy :)

Starbright huffs and snorts in protest, looking at the ledge warily and stomping her hooves, Sam nearby to provide musical assistance if needed

Do you try to get them to cross the ledge? THat will take a Handle Animal check DC 14 to convince them it will work.
If you decide to do this, please roll DC 10 acrobatics check for the horses to balance across, they only get a +2to the roll, and anything else the team can provide....

Zombies run, one, two, three, around the corner, so you can't see how many there could be beyond. You think the original webbing must still be holding if there are so few getting through to harass you.

[i]smash[/b], three slam into Braugh's armor, tackling him, trying to pull him down (Hit CMD 19, Miss 16, and 12! You're grappled)

I'll go across first with Jarga. I'll bring an end of a rope with me. Once across, I'll talk everyone else over. After everyone is over, I'll cast grease on the ledge, and we can watch the zombies burn.

Ooc-I plan on using a hero point to lead the way. Once someone gives me an end of a rope, I'm going. You will each get a +2 to your checks with my bardic performance.

I will be last across. It will be easiest for me to make a quick dash across the ledge. Even if its greased I should be able to make the jump. Devlin looks at the group with a hint of worry in his eyes. Delrid get a safety web up if possible and lets get moving.

Tahni is uncharacteristically balanced as she slowly traverses the ledge, carefully guiding StarBright with her (Cast guidance to get a +1 bonus to acrobatics. Acrobatics: 18, Handle Animal: 18, StarBright acrobatics: 17. All pass, and didn't take Sam's bonus into account). She exhales, not realising she had been holding her breath, when safely on the other side.

This pony has taken care of Tahni so far, always handling well under pressure. She will have to make sure he gets a good brush down later.

Jarga strokes Le Fleur's mane and whispers quietly into her ear:

" We can't stay girl.. "

The sounds of combat and zombie groans behind them make Le Fleur's ears flicker.

" You've been a good girl.." he whispers calmly and warmly, ".. just once more into the breach eh? "

She stamps and snorts and he smiles.

" Together then. "

He starts to slowly move across the ledge and she follows faithfully. The chasm seems to skew in his perception becoming infinitely long and ferociously thin but slowly, inch by inch the end draws nearer. Jarga steps onto safety and starts to turn, his hand still holding Le Fleur's reins when he hears a scraping.

The small slip of dirt and rocks is a vipers hiss, with fangs of terror that bite into his heart. Time slows as he see Le Fleur's back hoof slipping, her rear sliding over the edge, her eyes rolling in fear. Jarga seems locked in that moment, frozen in time; each missed beat of his heart building pressure inside of him.

His ears roar, his chests tightens and When it seems as though his heart would burst from the pressure he looses it in a word the booms across the mountains :

"NO!"

He wraps the rein around his hand and grasps tight,

"No.."

plants his feet with dwarven stubbornness,

"no..."

and looking into her eyes, unwilling to have betrayed her trust, he pulls her forward.

"No!"

She scrabbles, scraping the ledge with her dangling hoof, and in a moment that Jarga would recall for the rest of his days, she finds purchase and stands. He leads her to safety and throws his arms around her neck.

"Good girl."

Lava bursts from the pit below Sam as he balances across the ledge, leading the trusty mule, Jugo, along. The Speak with Animals spell still active, Jugo says, "By go-ho-ho-ly is hot out here!

Smoke exudes from the fiery pit beneath, choking you as [b]Tahni
and Starbright tote the invisible Delrid safely across the chasm.

Jarga follows and tiptoes with LeFleur, humming calming notes to the scared mare. She shudders and shakes with each shift of earth and gout of flame about her.
In the last few feet, the rocks give way to her hoofs and she scrapes the onyx-floor for grip.
The sorcerer expends every muscle in his back pulling her to safety.
Her eyes are wide with fear.

grrroooooooaaaaaaan

Zombies trickle around the corner and Devlin stays behind, still mounted? on Shade.

BlackAxe shouts, "Aye, across the bridge then. The ones that follow shall meet my axe."
The enlarged black-bearded dwarf then swings his blade at a stumbling undead and misses! (nat 1)
The axe is buried to its haft and he tries to pull it out, "Bloody, rotten, flesh-walking, death!'

RedForge laughs and rides by, drawing a short blade and taking the head from the beast in one swift motion (nat 20)

Tally speaks, "We should be less concerned of the undead... and more of where we should go from here?' as he crosses the bridge with his beatuful stallion (acrobatics 13)

He looks to the east and sees a land of bursting lava and temprorary stability of footing....

Devlin holds his ground as the rest of the group crosses the bridge. He dismounts to allow for better mobility. Keep moving, Sam get ready with that grease. He fires a few shots at any zombies that make it around the bend.Black Axe get moving so you don't get cut off from us.

Bruagh see if you can help me get Shade moving. Shes being a bit stubborn. Once everyone is across Devlin rushes over the narrow path with Shade in tow. The nimble rogue easily traverses the ledge and Shade easily keeps pace. As soon as he is on more stable ground he shouts. Sam, now!

The enlarged and enraged BlackAxe rips his dwarven death-dealing blade from the ground, throwing two zombies into the air with uplifted earth (Strength check = 25)

Bolts fly from Devlin's bow, sticking one zombie to the earth, it twitches under the bolt
Shade is struggling against your lead, not willing to stand on the narrow bridge with all this fire and smoke.

BlackAxe approaches and whispers to Shade, "Hush now little one." (Handle animal= 13), but the sight of a huge dwarf just freaks her out even more.

She bucks and breaks the reigns (Strength check = 20), kicking up blinding ash and dashes away from you, charging north!

RedForge charges to cut off her path, but she whisks past him. "Argghh!"

A few zombies try to scratch at her, but the black beauty runs too swiftly to be caught.

Sam greases the bridge, making it nearly impossible to pass... (fail 15, succeed 18, and a 20)

Zombies plummet to their deaths. Others slip and fall to the ground, finding it hard to stand.

Still, dozens stumble around the corner towards you

Might not be a bad idea Sam. Lucky for us the zeds are mindless. They will probably try to pursue us across this ledge for quite a while. He looks back at the shambling horde. They seem to act on smell. I've got an Idea ta keep there attention on this side even after we leave. Tahni I am going ta need your help for this. Setting his pack down he pulls out his old worn and smelly clothes and places them in a pile on the ground. Now comes the crazy part. Devlin brings out his dagger and before anyone can react slices his palm open, allowing the blood to ooze out his fingers and onto the clothing. The horde shamble on the other side of the 15foot bridge long bridge. The black smoke arising from the pit below adds a bit of cover. from direct eyesight.

Sam wonders about the remaining hordes ability to terrorize MountainBurrow...
How many did you kill anyways?

Tahni looks for the wounded and is quickly granted what she is looking for as Devlin splits his hand open on soiled clothes, hoping to attract the zombies from across the bridge. He sees Shade in the distant north running far away from the zombies... maybe she did find her way out of the mountainous crag.

Sulfur in the air numbs much sense of smell, but the movement of Devlin placing the clothes across the bridge gets the attention of four.

They stumble forward and step on the Grease spell, three slipping and falling to their doom in the fiery pits below.

But one moonwalks across (nat 20) and attacks Devlin! Miss AC 6, biting at him.

BlackAxe steps forward and decapitates the Zed in one swift flick of a giant dwarven axe (Hit 29 16 damage). "Come lad, we'd best move a bit from this spot. Only one out of 20 seem to make it across, but that's enough to disturb our rest."

Tally looks to the East and tosses a scroll to Delrid, Read Scroll written in a curvy draconic, are the Aracana symbols: Rope Trick

Fields of molten rock with little onyx landbridges separating mounds of pulsating radiation."

I'm still concerned about MountainBurrow. There is no way all of the hoard followed us here. Our priority should be to protect our people before heading east. What good is going after the dark dwarves if we come back to find MountainBurrow wiped out? I think one of us at least needs to warn them, so they can prepare..

MountainBurrow seemed well hidden and well protected. This was to be a scouting group to find the zombie horde. We found it and led it away from the city. Its numbers seem greatly decreased. Our options are to head back to the city as planned or seek out our primary target. Lets move to a safer location to discuss and rest.

The group takes a quick breather and begin to discuss the next course of action

Tahni and Sam feel that the Horde must still have enough numbers to threaten nearby cities, but Devlin remembers that MountainBurrow is hidden in the side of the mountain and covered with a number of Illusion enchantments.

Delrid can assess from his knowledge of local geography (29) and the fact that the sun is rising with the mountain to your South, so you must have ran all along the western flank of Forlorn mountain. . .

Sorry I've been out of touch lately. I went on vacation, the family got sick, and when we got back the internet in my area was down. You know the old adage: "The FIOS giveth, and the FIOS taketh away."


Delrid feels similarly about the intent. With an understanding of the lay of the land, perhaps a pit stop at MountainBurrow would be appropriate. "I can understand Jarga's desire to see his flame (and his candle) wax instead of wane, and we are still in the process of creating items from our last haul."

"Plus, I feel as though we've accomplished our intended mission. The beasts are entrenched in a lava field, and many have been slain. It looks as though we could all use some rest. I'll set up an enclosed space for us to 'camp' for the night."


With that, Delrid looks for an out of the way alcove in which to cast rope trick. When he finds the right spot, he'll pull his wand of Metamagic: Lesser Extend and double the duration (6 hours total, unless Delrid is 4th level based on the experience accrued, after which the duration will be 8 hours).

The zombies advance, though only because the ones in the back are pushing the ones in the front forward. Another few fall off the ledge. One lands on a ledge about 20' down and holds on, though, how he had the brains to decide to hold on is a mystery.

Then about 15' feet further ahead, there is a sound. It was not there a moment ago. Something has changed.

The sound? Flowing Water. Inviting. Pure.

Looking ahead, an opening into the mountain has appeared. Ancient Woldian symbols float in the air above the opening. Glancing inside, a short moss-covered passage leads to an opening beyond. Crystal flowers are growing directly out of the rocks on either side of the moss forming it into a trail.

The scent of fresh water fills Jarga's nostrils.Now that he has noticed the sound he feels for his horse; his own throat is parched and poor Le Fleur has been doing all the running. He leads her towards to cave and stops at the entrance, pausing long enough to inspect a crystal flower. He whispers back to the group, waving his hands at the flowers lining the cave entrance:

" If these pretty things are delicate then perhaps we can assume this cave is undisturbed by anything too big and too nasty?"

Sliding Donk, his trusty club from his pack, with his tongue poking out in concentration and his eyes flicking about the cave cautiously, he not too gently nudges a flower.

He taps it lightly with Donk, his trusty club to see how tough it is.

Delrid looks at the cavern, attempting to ascertain the architecture and artifice or the orifice. It seems magical, but is it natural, are there others? He also studies the runes [Read Magic if necessary].
