The group rests at the valley of two hills.

Healthy moss soup is prepared and its quite delicious with the small cache of mushrooms.

The smell of ash wafts from the steeper mountainside behind you.

Dende is quick at setting up tents with his hammer knocking stakes into the ground.

Braugh, Tahni, and Boomy discuss the mysterious powers that lie within this mountainrange and the explosive death of the halfling Fire Sorcerer pirate, Mercutio.
Nearly half the forest was burned in his wake.

Sam probably listens intently to their stories, knowing reciting their heroics later may make good poetry.

Jarga sleeps and thinks of fireflies and burning stars... Jarga only Highlight to display spoiler: { In your sleep on this ashy land, you can feel the movement of heat and warmth. Not words, but an emotion is stirred in you, it says, Embrace the Flame. }

Devlin perches on the top of the hillside and becomes one shadow with the hill, watching the horizons like a hawk.
The young black-bearded Dealbreaker awaits, Devlin only Highlight to display spoiler: {]You feel an emotion. There is something missing. Something you desire, and know it is within your reach. Valuable, worthy, those diamonds. They should belong to you. Make a DC 10 Will save or be compelled to steal the diamonds sometime in the near future. }

But then, the young black-bearded Dealbreaker's thoughts are interrupted, as he hears movement in the night.

He scans the horizon for a few seconds, moving his head ever so slowly.

movement he thinks.
A tree shakes, a rustle.

Then you see it, or him, rather.
Standing five feet tall, with black scales, yellow and black reptile eyes, humanoid torso, bipedal, with long whipping tail.

Moving like a hunter in the night, bow taught and eyes darting as if on the hunt.
Any dungeoneering knowledge Devlin has accumulated knows this creature to be a Troglodyte.
Probably a scout from the looks of him considering his leather armor with many pockets and quiver of arrows.

He has not noticed you, and is about 200 feet away, across some hilly ashy land. He is moving slowly your way in a zig-zag motion. (stealth = 22, perception = 19)

Tahni is exhausted from the day's events. She used every trick up her sleeve to keep the party alive that day, and right now, she does what she can to get a good nights sleep. A peaceful nights sleep does not come easy however, as she has disturbing dreams about Tina and her baby.

Devlin begins to stalk the scout, attempting to get in closer to make any shots count. He keeps a close eye on the trog not wanting it to slip from his view. With his mind focused on the task he is able to shake off an odd feeling without much thought.

Actions:
*Stealth closer to Trog, will fire on him at anytime if he attempts a hostile action.
*I want to try and get within 30' (my sneak attack range)
*I want to determine his intentions if possible, if he notices the group and makes to flee in the direction he came I will fire to keep him from alerting other to our presence.

Devlin stalks the sneaking black-scaled Troglodyte, keeping a sharp eye on the inherently evil lizardfolk.

The Trog's yellow eyes dart back and forth, scanning the horizon as he moves in a zig-zag across the hills.
You don't know his intent, but he's obviously scouting for something.

He moves slowly, his long tail waving back and forth like a snake as he stalks the ashy lands, Devlin trailing closer and closer and closer.

By guessing his path, Devlin can tell that the Trog will stumble across the Dwarven encampment that rests in the valleys within a minute... and it is almost sure that he will alert others. Whether they will attack or not is unknown.
Perhaps hostile action is necessary? Or could his path be diverted in other ways?

With your two nat 20's you can certainly get within 30feet of him without noticing... you sneaky sneaky Dealbreaker. The fate of your friends rests in your capable hands.

Meanwhile at the camp, Tahni hears a whimper and looks over to Tina Cloverdale, the beautiful blonde dwarven woman that has undergone so much hardship. There are beads of sweat on her brow. She is obviously in pain, even in her sleep.

Tired from the constant fleeing, fighting and injury Devlin's dark blood urges him towards action. I am done with fleeing and diplomacy its time to act! Lining up his crossbows he fires at the creature wanting to silence it before it can alert others. His bolts fly forth catching the trog completely unprepared.

Full round action fire at trog:
First shot = 10, used hero point 14; dam = 2 + 4(sneak attack)
Second shot = 19 ; dam = 9 + 7(sneak attack)
Total dam if both hit = 22

OOC: DM, what do you think about a trait for my background with the Duergar? Would you be ok making one up?

Boomy sleeps with strange dreams flowing in and out of his mind. In on dream he is the mountain, strong and unyielding. The next he sees himself as a vulture preying on the dead and dying, each of whom have the face of recent enemies. The undead, the dark bloods, Mercuito and the Necromancer. In the final dream he sees the energy, the ki of his body flowing through him and begins to manipulate it new ways.

Devlin sneaks up behind the lone scout Troglodyte.
twang twang, The first bolt lodges in his scaly hide, and as he pivots on his clawed heel, his eyes widen as the second bolt sticks in his neck, sending spurts of blood as he hits the ground and rolls around in pain.
He gurgles as he flails, scratching at the ground and whipping his tail as he struggles for breath.

Then he stops moving as blood pools about him.

Devlin scans the horizon and sees that the noise from the brief encounter may have excited other movement in the distance....

Tahni goes to comfort Tina, yet her slumber becomes more disturbed. Beads of sweat drop from her brow and she emits a high-pitched grunt that awakens Boomy, Jarga Baenor and Dende as well. Her clammy hands writhe in agony.
Please succeed on a DC 16 Heal check to quiet her or her condition will worsen... and she may get louder.

Boomy sees something out the corner of his sleepy eye when he sits up to look over the situation:
Are those tiny yellow eyes in the distance (about 150feet away)? They aren't moving in one direction, but are scanning back and forth very quickly.

Wanting to get the drop on any other foes that may stumble across the camp Devlin takes to the shadows waiting for the enemy to come to him. Not wanting the party to be un-prepared he does the quietest thing he can to warn them and fires a crossbow bolt skidding along the ground into camp. Once that is done Devlin will stay in the shadows until a target is close enough to fire at with deadly accuracy.

Fire into the ground in camp = 12 (only need AC 5 to hit a specific square)
Stealth = 15

I don't know what to do" she says looking to Bruagh and Sam "Your lullaby may give her a better night's sleep, Sam. That may be all we can hope for at this stage"

As Devlin's arrow slides into the camp, Tahni goes wide eyed. "Is that Devlin or are we udner attack?" she assumes a crouched position next to Tina and looks about (Perception: 19). Fearing the worst, Tahni will go full-defence.

Tahni manages to keep Tina from convulsing to noisy proportions and Sam assists by humming a soothing lullaby to her, that puts her into a deep restful slumber.

Sam gets a hero point for putting her to sleep for the combat. (My plan was to have higher DC heal checks to keep her quiet, lest the position of the refugees be known)

Then, the quick-witted Devlin sends a bolt skidding into the camp, alerting everyone to be on alert.
Then, a moment later, the darkblooded dwarf takes a few steps down the hill and spots a smaller, leaner dark-scaled lizard, also wielding a taught and ready longbow.
He fires a bolt, and it snags into his back, making him yelp in pain.

Troglodyte Ashscale Scout 5 falls to the dirt and fires two arrows that were knocked at the same time.
Devlin sidesteps one arrow, but the other lights on fire mid-flight!

The heated flight path leaves a bit of smoke in the air as it zooms over the valley that the refugees, Tahni, Sam, and Jarga all reside and lands somewhere far to the southeast hills.

Braugh grabs his weapon and charges up the hill after Devlin.
His clanking form gives no need for subtlety.

ting ting, shink

Two arrows from hidden Troglodyte Ashscale Scout 1 catch Braugh in the breastplate and arm, spurting bits of dwarven blood on the scab ash. (Hit flat-footed AC 25 and 17 for 4+2sneak = 6 damage. -2 from your DR though for 4.)

Boomy, Jarga, and the hidden Sam see all the little yellow dots that are moving about in the darkness on the COMBAT MAP
(Troglodyte stealth checks of 27, 28, and 27. their perceptions were 17, 10, 10. lol)

Seeing the scout drop prone Devlin grins. Fool thinks I'm all fer shootin, looks like this is gonna get personal.Quickly dodging the first arrow Devlin begins his charge, as the second arrow flares with light he grimaces in frustration. Have ta keep anything away from the refugees. Giving his best battle yell he pulls his sword free and finishes his charge plunging the acid coated blade towards the creatures exposed neck.

Sam hears Devlin's war cry and his muscles tense. His impulse is to run to his aid. He then remembers the refugees. They are defenseless. Devlin can fend for himself...hopefully.

Sam stays hidden and keeps the sleep spell readied for an unsuspecting foe.

Addison: Please be more specific as to where you want the sleep spell to go off and at what time (coordinates?). IT has a 10foot radius burst within 130feet, so its possible to get more than one in a shot. I will allow you to target an area rather than a unit. SO feel free to blast blindly if you don't know what's out there or can otherwise only see yellow eyes.

Are the yellow spots on the map the Eyes Boomy spotted?

Boomy scans the darkness and sees enemies surrounding the group. As Braugh charges North Boomy holds his ground to defend the refugees. Adrenaline begins to course through his veins as he waits for his attackers approach. Once an enemy moves to within 60 ft Boomy will charge it while drawing his Guirsame (Reach weapon to avoid an AoO). The monk easily moves across the terrain and jumping over obstacles (acrobatics = 20) and kicks the creature square in the face. (Hit Ac 20 for 8 dmg).

OOC: There's something ominous about that "strange bush" :) Then again, it looks like we are protecting "Dopey", "Bashful", "Grumpy", "Wednesday" and "Tiny Tim". Nice touch on the refugee names there, Addison

"Smother the fire!" Tahni whispers back to 'Dopey'. "Everyone stay close. Devlin may have slain whatever was out there, but we must wait for him to give the all clear"

She stays alert for signs of danger and prepares to help illuminate any hidden enemies (Perception: 19). She maintains her position by the refugees, ready to defend them as best she can.

(It's unclear whether Tahni can see the 'yellow eyes' or not. She will ready an action to cast Dancing Lights at the first indication there are enemies out there. 4 circling lights in a 10ft radius. Range 110ft. Able to move 100ft per round)

ooc- When I declared the sleep spell I did not have a map. I was just hoping you would assign a target for me. I am unsure if Sam sees yellow eye, so I will make 2 action options.

If Sam sees yellow eyes near the group, he casts sleep on as many as he can target.

If he can't, he moves to G67 to look for threats to the NE. If he sees one, he will begin casting sleep on the up to 130 ft.

Jarga remains close to camp, but fearing the encroaching beasts he begins to quietly chant. Twin flashes of energy hurtle from his hand and shoot unerringly towards a pair of the glowing yellow eyes.

Devlin charges the prone Trog and skewers his jugular in twain after a brief gasp of shock, the acid silences his vocal chords replacing with sizzle...

Then, the Dealbreaker emits a thunderous shout that sends shudders of movement skittering in the distances.

You see a great number of shadows moving. You hear 10, 20? Maybe more? pairs of clawed feet running around sporadically.

Braugh charges Trog Scout 1, but the lizard deftly backsteps away from the axe. He counters by dropping his bow and pulling a sidesword from a ready scabbard.
cling Your shield catches the metal blade, sparking a bit as the metal connects (miss AC 10)

Sam sees two lizards moving with gecko-like feet, sticking to the side of a rock, knock arrows aimed for Braugh. He chants a metrognome and a soft blue haze fills the eyes of the two lizards.
With a plunk, plunk, they hit the ashy ground, fast asleep for 3 minutes!

Boomy spots another gecko-like scout crawl on the 20foot high boulder.
He charges full speed, the Trog fires two arrows at Boomy, but the monk deflects each one with a brief spin of his guirisame (Miss AC 7 and 13).
With great acrobatics, he jumps up at the climbing lizard and kicks him square in the skull, sweeping him from his perch and onto the ashy ground.
crack he lands with a crash and curses, looking up at you with fear in his eyes.

Jarga waits for the right moment, searching the northeast quadrant.
You hear pat, pat, pat. They are coming fast!
You summon spheres of glowing hot energy in your hands. They lift javelins at your direction.
At the same time, you fire your energy at one of the Trogs, blasting into his chest making his javelin go awry (Miss AC 12), but his friend's javelin hits its mark, skewering into Jarga's side, sending dwarven blood yet again on the scab ash. ((((Hit AC 23 for 8 Piercing damage to Jarga)))) ouch!

Trog scout 3 takes out his sideblade from a scabbard, and taps his injured partner on the shoulder, who then follows suit as they stalk closer to Jarga.

Dende shouts, Dwarven lives shall not be lost! and pulls his hammer and shield, approaching the two Scouts.
Baenor says, "By Domi it shall not! and he draws his greatsword, stepping forward to defend Jarga as well.

Tahni ignites globes of angel-blue light, revealing a tall, thin Trog DarkShaman

He squints with the light and focuses on Tahni for a moment, studying her fine dwarven form.
He breathes in deeply, and emits a high-pitched, high-frequency clickclickclickclick, as he shakes a skull-wand in the air faster and faster. Spellcraft DC 16 Highlight to display spoiler: {Command!}

Tahni shakes off the effects of a spell that she knows was directed at her. "Spellcaster to the southeast!" Tahni calls out in dwarven "By the lights!"

The javelin that skewered Jarga looks nasty, however Tahni has no more healing spells available to her for the day. "Jarga, stay close to me. I'll do what I can to protect you!" She is momentarily distracted from her surroundings and preoccupied with aiding a fellow dwarf (Move to M,70. Perception: 11. Attempt to Aid Another to give +2 to Jarga's AC: 1 = Fail) She tries to get by Jarga's side, hoping to be between him and whatever else may come at the party but she is too far away.

Jarga roars in pain, and staggers slightly to his right, grabbing the spear that has pierced his armor and flesh. His hand comes away bloody. As he sees his own blood glistening in the dim light his roar becomes one of fury.
Fire dances is his eyes and the blood on his hand instantly boils and shoots forth as ray of fire at the injured beast.

Bruagh realizes how agile his opponent is and attempts to compensate for that on his next swing of the axe, swinging about a foot behind the creatures neck, expecting it will back up, so the strike will decapitate the creature.

Jarga's fiery ray is sidestepped by the Trog scout...

...distracting it enough for Dende and Baenor to charge and clash weapons with the Troglodytes. Dende sweeps at its knees as Baenor slices deep into its ribcage in a samurai-like swipe. (Miss AC 8 and Hit AC 18 for 9 damage! Go NPC!)

Trog 3 swings at Dende, only to be ducked (miss AC 8) just as Sam completes his spell, sending Lizard 3 into a deep slumber, plopping head-first on Dende's shoulder. He shakes off the guy with a grunt.

After Braugh quickly decapitates his Scout foe, he and Devlin run back to the main group, they look behind them to see what is making all the thudding.

A large black-scaled alligator-man-like beast is charging across the hills, accompanied by two more scouts.
He ROARS, "Take no prisoners!"

Scout 11 Pulls a flarestick, ignites it, and throws it into the air behind him!

Tahni hears a rattling sound from the southeast.

The white-scaled leather-dressed Shaman is emanating waves of terror from him.

Jarga hears the great beast and stares. It is large, it is loud but it is flesh and will burn if it comes too close.

A cold, chill runs down his spine... the same chill he felt when his brother gazed at him with cold, unloving eyes before hurting him. He trembles and turns towards the Shaman and feels the waves of fear rippling towards him. He sees the cowering of the refugees and scowls...

He whispers some quick words and the air around him shimmers for a moment before becoming still He strides to stand between Cloverdale and Hobbinbuttoms and then growls, locking eyes with the Shaman.

Tahni too hears the monster roar and feels the shaman try to rock their spirits. She looks about the shaken refugees and her colleagues in battle and smiles as she addresses them loudly "Take no prisoners? Why, I think the little lizard was giving us dwarves some good advice. The waves of terror shake the landscape as more and more Troglodytes pour in from the dark ashy abyss.

Jarga's knees begin to shake as he casts a sphere of protection around him that stops any further evil.

Tahni inspires Mr. GoodButtom, who stands and draws an alchemist fire....

Mr. Goodbuttom then scrambles to the top of the hill and locks eyes with the DarkShaman.

The DarkShaman raises a hand and a wave of Red Energy emanates from him,

... just as Sam's sleep spell is completed, and a blue haze envelopes the Troglodyte Shaman, sending him to the ground in a deep slumber (Will = 12, FAIL)

Mr. GoodButtom's hand shakes as he loads a crossbow and walks over to the sleeping Trog Shaman.
A wave of arrows (miss AC 5 and 13) send GoodButtom to the ground as his hands shake to load his crossbow... he looks determined to kill the Shaman while it sleeps.

Meanwhile

Boomy jumps from his perch on the rock and lands both feet on the head of the Troglodyte, smashing his face into the earth.
stomp stomp stomp With a quick russian-stomp dance, he pounds its skull further into the soil, scaring the living hell out of the witnessing Trog Scout 10, who fires a single arrow at Boomy!
(((((((Hit Boomy's AC of 21 for 2 damage))))))

Braugh activates his smite, summoning a wave of golden energy about him that connects his destiny to the Trog Ash Beast.

As The Beast and his two Scouts charge, Devlin fires two bolts that plug into the neck and side of Trog Scout 11, dropping him to the dirt.

Trog Scout 13, who also charged in with the Beast, runs over to the Sleeping Trogs at the Southwest and slaps one to consciousness, who awakens quite confused! The awake one points to the refugees and the previously sleeping stands and begins running that way, drawing a bow

The Ash Beastsmiles and charges Braugh,
stomp, stomp, stomp at the end of his charge, you hear a great rumble from the belly of the Beast and a wave of Acid erupts from its maw, drenching the Paladin in burning acid.
((((((Hit Braugh's Touch AC 13 for 9 damage.))))) How much AC does fighting defensively give? +2? Do attackers win ties?

A wave of arrows flies from the NorthEast, piercing Baenor's armor and making him take a step back (Hit AC 20 for 3).
plug plug Dende's shield catches two arrows and he steps back as well, his eyes widen.

From the NorthEast you see a Trog donned in full plate and wielding a two-handed greathammer marching slowly towards the Refugees. Two scouts accompany him.

OOC: II believe it is a dodge bonus to AC which would apply to Touch AC. Ties go to the attacker though if it is a dodge bonus then it misses.

Bruagh dodges the creatures acid attack and closes the distance with the creature trying to slide the longsword in it's soft underbelly. "Aww, he quit smiling."

Devlin glances around weighing his options. His eyes shift to the area north which is empty except for dead bodies. A cry from the children hardens his resolve. He sets his eyes upon the beast assaulting Bruagh and charges once again. As his blade comes forth it is once again coated in acid. He is able to slip behind the hulking trog and slip his blade between its ribs. Bruagh lets finish this thing we have plenty more targets.

Flank charge Ash Beast = 19 to hit ; Dam = 17 (6+5 acid+ 6 sneak)
Bruagh you got +2 to hit due to flanking.

ooc-I sent Addison my changes for APG via email. I plan on one level in cavalier and one more level in bard. After that...BATTLE HERALD shooting crossbow bolts while on a wolf! Hoping to get a wolf with a laser strapped to his forehead.

Sam is pleased with the effectiveness of his sleep spells. He decides to try to target the unchallenged party from the northeast with the dusk cleric. If they could be slowed down for even a few moments, it would give the rest of the group enough time to finish off their foes and shift east to protect the refugees. He clenches his new crossbow after the spell goes off. No more spells. Time to support the group with encouragement and crossbow bolts.

OOC: Tahni had moved to P,73 at the end of her last turn however it's not shown on the map. I'll assume that's where she is though.

"Oh that thing is SO going to die!" Tahni promises herself as once again the shaman attempts to shake her conviction (Will Save vs DC16: 18 = Pass)

She moves closer to the shaman, ready to end her first life in the scab, before arrows landing nearby draw her attention. (Move to S,74. Perception: 26. The yellow dots at S,85 are in darkvision range now) "I'll take care of this one!" she calls to Mr Goodbuttom. Tahni defends herself as she considers the best way to end the life at her feet (Total Defence. +4 Dodge Bonus to AC. AC now 19)

Braugh and Devlin surround the Ashbeast and attack in one coordinated motion. The longsword cuts deep into its belly and it roars in pain, followed immediately by a shortsword in its back, splattering blood all over your armor and weapons.

The Ash Beast counters, flailing its claws once at Braugh, deflected. Once at Devlin, dodged.
Then, he uses his tail to wrap Devlin in a vicegrip and picks up the dwarf, plunging him into its gaping maw!
(((((Miss AC 7, 10, 10, but..... HIT AC 26, confirmed criit with 19 for a total of 26 damage to Devlin!)))))))))
The rogue's bones crunch and grind in the jaw of the beast, leaving him a broken and mangled mess.

Trog Scout 13 wakes up Scout 7 and then shouts, Attack the Paladin!
And thus Scout 7 and 6 both draw shortswords and charge Braugh, flanking with their beastly friend.
The Paladin sees this coming though and deflects one blade with his own while catching the other with his shield. ((Miss AC 14 and 13!))

Sam uses his last sleep spell on the three Trogs approaching from the NorthEast.
The two scouts instantly drop as the blue haze overtakes their sense. The Cleric though, stands (fail will save 13, 11, and success 21)
In response, the Cleric's jaw drops open and he moves to Scout 14 and kicks him awake, thus using his turn.

Tahni goes on the defensive and moves next to the sleeping Trog DarkShaman.
pat, pat, pat Trog Scout 16 charges Tahni, but Jarga's missiles blast holes in hit chest, making the blade easy to dodge (Miss AC 11)
He says in a slithery common, "You will not kill our shaman!"

Trog Scout 17 fires at Mr. GoodButtom, but the prone gnome rolls and the arrows land aside him. He returns fire (miss AC 13 and 12)

Trog Scout 10 and 15 jump over the stream of lava and fire at Boomy (((((Hit AC 22 and 19 for 2 and 3 damage for 5 total!)))))

Devlin rolls from the creatures mouth and lands on his feet. His left arm hangs limp at his side having taken the brunt of the bite. Blood flows freely into his eyes clouding his vision. His breathing is short and ragged, a wheezing is heard from a puncture in his chest.

Hearing the call to arms he grits his teeth and plunges his sword at the beast again. He looks at Bruagh and winks I'm almost done here lad, gonna have to leave ya soon.

"Hang on Brother!" Bruagh yells to Devlin as he is being crushed by the beast.

Sam chants a battle cry that boosts his allies' moral as the battle continues.

Tahni taunts the Scout and steps back, the Trog Scout says, "What honor is there, you fien BLARGH" as Jarga's energy blasts two small holes in his throat, silencing him in a gurgle.
You see Trog Scout 17 charge Mr. GoodButtom and stab him in the side (Hit AC 20 for 4 damage)
Mr. GoodButtom responds by slapping the blade aside with his crossbow and points it at the ribcage of the Lizard Scout, firing the bolt into his chest (Hit AC 17 for 5 damage)

Then Tahni plunges the blade into the chest of the Troglodyte DarkShaman, it lodges on his ribcage and his eyes open. (Fort save 17,... 6 damage total)

Terror.... rage

The Trog Shaman's white-scaled clawed-hand latches onto your own as you grasp the dagger in his chest.
Its cold and leathery... He Squeezes your hand with crushing force, making you lose grip on the dagger (Grapple hit your CMD with 19, disarm = 13 vs your CMD. You are now grapplingwith the Shaman.)

On the west side of the map, Devlin falls to the ground and swipes at the Beast's knees, blade bouncing off scaly hide.
As the creature hungrily looks to Devlin, sensing a kill Braugh jumps from the side blade-first, slicing the creature's right eye in twain.
BARAAAAAGGGHHH. MY EYE!" The cold blade freezes him and he falls backwards, grasping at his face. He is not dead, but very disabled.
Then Braugh touches Devlin's shoulder, healing some of his wounds in a flash of golden hues. ((((Braugh gets a Hero Point for earning the Dwarven Protector Badge))))

Troglodyte AshScale Scout 6, 7, 13, all charge forward to defend their injured comrade and assault in a coordinated blade dance.
Swipe, swish, clang, tink tink. BAT, WHOMP.
Braugh's swordsmanship and shieldarm are unmatched as he defends his dwarven brethren.
(Miss AC 16 and 16, one hits AC 19 for 2 damage that is dmg reduxed to 0!))))

Boomy charges one of the oncoming Scouts and jump kicks him in the head, cracking his jaw.
With the same motion he delivers a roundhouse body shot that breaks several ribs.
Completing the pirouette maneuver, his shin smashes the knees of the lizard, sending it to the earth. DEAD

Trog Scout 15 sees this and turns tail and runs....

On the East side, Trog Scout 14 wakes up 12, who then draws a bow and follows his Clerical Leader.

The Young Paladin's aura begins to glow silver as he braces himself for the impact.
Dende lifts his shield, expecting a huge impact,
But the two-handed mallet wielded by the buffed Trog only taps the edge of the shield.
The youth's eyes open in realization a nanosecond too late. A feint....
The mallet swipes to the ground and then picks back up, smashing into Dende's chest taking him off his feet and into the air.
Tiny blood droplets sprinkle like dew.
He hits the ground hard. (Hit AC 21 for 15 damage. Dende is OUT)

Baenor grunts and Charges the Cleric, locking his greatsword with the mallet (miss AC 9)

Jarga, watches the Trog gurgle and fall and feels a surge of optimism.. which dies quickly as he sees the seeming endless Trog encroaching. As if time has slowed he sees Dende fall, smote by the Cleric, his blood dangling like rubies in the air. Dende, crumples in a cloud of dust and blood and Jarga screams.

He strides towards the cleric, radiating rage like a furnace

He raises his hand which explodes in a broad, sizzling cloud of flame, catching both a scout and the cleric.

Bruagh breathes a sigh of relief when he connects with the beasts eye. Seeing Devlin still on his feet, Bruagh turns his attention to the three Lizards South of him. He attacks the scout that seems most likely to go after Devlin.

Tahn struggles against the cold iron grasp of the Shaman, but cannot break free.
But then, a Boomy's foot smashes into the side of the cleric, crushing ribs and allowing Tahni to break free! (Succeed with 20 Fort save)

The young Wyrmryder steps back in surprise and ponders what connection may have just happened.
She knows that when two beings of magical nature connect in times of high emotions, sometimes barriers in the natural world can be crossed.
These things often result in visions.

On the West side of the map, Braugh slices a scout's chest open with an upward thrust and shouts for Devlin to finish the deed on the AshBeast. The Two remaining scouts attack again ((((Miss AC 16 and 12)))))

Rogue draws his sword and steps towards him, the AshBeast bleeds from his eye and his face is partially frozen from the power of the the Longsword .
Yet he speaks in a low rumble, "You slay even a wounded snake. Honor and mercy are at odds with our kind, isn't it?"

The blade finds its mark, ending the life of the AshBeast. Devlin earns a ruthless counter on his personality meter as the blood spills onto the ground.

As the young Paladin, Dende, hits the ground, Jarga steps forward and radiates a href="http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/b/burning-hands"]wave of heat that engulfs both the cleric and the scout, singing them both (reflex save = 19 for cleric and 7 for scout).

As the armor sizzles on his body, Sam's bolt clashes into his dark metal chestpiece, bouncing off onto the ground.

The enemies attack,
At the same time, Trog Scout 12 runs and jumps over the Cleric as the full-platemail wearer summons an aura of Red negative energy about his hand. The Scout lands on Baenor's head, and starts melees with him.

Then, the Trog Cleric steps forward and grabs Jarga by the wrist!
Suddenly, sores and wounds open up along the veins up your arm and to your torso, dropping you to one knee! ((( Hit Touch AC 15 for 8 damage! You just got hit by Cause Mod Wounds. Ouch))))

Tahni hears a squeel from her left and sees that Trog Scout 17 placed his blade keenly into Mr. GoodButtom's stomach (Hit AC 23 for 4 dmg). He looks at Tahni next as he walks over with his blade drawn.

Then the DarkShaman takes a step back from Boomy and Tahni, and shakes his skull-rattle.
A dark glowing orb of Acid appears in his hand and he flings it at Boomy! ((((HIT AC 22 for 8 damage!)))) The acid burns your bare chest, sending vapors into the air about you.

You hear bloodcurdling screams,
Trog Scout 14 has mounted the hill and is firing arrows down at the children. Dopey has been hit.

Then you hear galloping from the North, and a deep shout, "Route the enemy!"

A Dwarf in black platemail and a large black beard , rides on a large black bear with and a lance in one arm. With the other, he throws an axe at Trog 14, but it skitters to nothing (Miss AC 6, nat 1)

A second younger Dwarf with a short red beard, large muscles, and seemingly no armor runs fullspeed, greataxe lifted above his head. He looks to be in a rage.

They are followed by three more dwarves in iron breastplates and dwarven axes. One on a horse.
Lastly, there is a tall human riding on a white horse. He lifts his hands and a waft of blue energy emanates from him gracing his allies with lingering sparkles.

Yet more black-scaled Trogs pour in from the sides.

Jarga's vision dims as he drops to ones knee and feels the Shaman's dark magic writhe up his arm like a hundred deadly vipers. Dizzied by pain he is suddenly...somewhere else.

He is knee deep in snow, so cold that it sears and it is his brother, not the Shaman before him. His brothers hand is like ice and, as it leeches his warmth, his feel his life slipping. His brother stares down with cold, cruel contempt and Jarga closes his eyes.

Somehow though, across the soft whisper of snowfall there comes the sounds of battle. He hears the pained cry of a child and something stirs in his weary heart. His vision doubles, the snowfield rips away and resolves into the hateful black eyes of the Troglodyte Shaman still grasping his arm.

"Aye then," he whispers "lets finish this."

He curls his burn scarred hand around the Shaman's arm, grasping, preventing it from releasing and drawing away. He pours his grief, his loneliness and his anger down through his ruined arm and out through his palm. The Shaman's eyes widen in shock as flame-wreathed lightning courses up his arm.

Jarga pulls the Shaman closer and through clenched teeth demands

"Yield!"

Sam throws his crossbow down in disgust as the bolt bounces off the dusk cleric's armor. I'm barely strong enough to reload this thing. By the time I do, this battle will be over.

Bruagh can't see what is going at the camp but gets the idea. He hears Jarga yell followed by the sound of lightening scorching flesh. He hears one of the children cry out in pain rather than fear. The battle does not seem to be going well.

"Devlin, brother, get to the children, I'll finish these two."

Bruagh parries the attacks of the two lizards as he hears the sound of unfamiliar Dwarven voices, charging cavalry, and... a bear? Domi let that be the Ursine Outriders, or at least help. You know we need it.

Bruagh's heart breaks as he hears Sam say someone help Dende. Domi no... No NO NOOO!" Having already lost one son, there is no way Bruagh can handle losing the young lad he helped rescue.

Bruagh in a white hot rage, slashes twice, going for the neck of both lizardmen. He then turns and races towards the rest of the group searching for the fallen Dende.

Use a Hero Point for extra Standard action.

Leaving his sword to sizzle in the beasts neck Devlin turns and heads towards the campsite. A dark rage smoulders in his eyes upon hearing a child cry out in pain. A sinister voice enters his head promising death to those that would harm a child. For once he listens to the voice, embracing his dark blood. The rogue stalks forward thoughts of pain and malice follow with him. An enemy comes into view and his crossbow snaps up instinctively. He fires without thought the bolt sinking into the creatures flesh. Devlin scans for his next target.

(I'm assuming the red cross on Mr Goodbuttom on the map means he's dead)

Tahni turns as the screams from the camp grow louder. "Boomy, you got this? I have to help the children!" Turning on her heels, Tahni takes aim at the scout approching the children and charges directly at him. She sees both Dende and Dopey have fallen. Darga too looks critically wounded, and the unconscious Tina is oblivious to the danger she is in. Tahni feels a moment of dispair, but as she runs a feeling of calm comes over her. "I can save them. My life for theirs. I can save them!" She let's forth a scream as she runs, alerting the scout to her attack, and attemps to bullrush him away from the refugees (Charge at Scout 14 - 40ft straight line. Attempt to Bullrush him: Natural 1 = Fail. Also gives him an AoO against Tahni. Ooh, he's using a bow. Does he still get an AoO?) but fails miserably.

As Tahni moves to take care of the others the monk nods. Aye, I think I can handle this one. Then, just as his target backs up and begins shaking his rattle Boomy makes a wild swipe with his guirsame to stop the creature, but comes nowhere close to landing a hit. Perhaps he was a little too confident. Immediately he feels the cold touch of acid on his skin followed be the searing pain and acrid smell of brunt flesh another reminder serving to teach him the cost of failure. Boomy steps back up to his opponent and attacks wildly through the pain, his attacks no where near as accurate as he would like. In the back of his mind me wonders what the rattle used against him was. Was it another of those strange holy symbols or a magic item he could use to pay back the favor on the lizards kinsmen.

OOC: Yeah, Redforged sort of owes us... I have a feeling we are about to be even. Hehehe.

Redforge is pretty awesome. Tina Cloverdales fiance' Guy lost his arm while under Redforge's nephews command as they were defending a tavern we were staying at from Orc's who had been armed with Duegar weapons.

Nephew Redforge sent us to find the Uncle Redforge at Riddleport which we found blown up. Redforge was the captive of pirates, we fought our way out, and Redforge took of with a group of refugees in one direction while we went in another with our group of refugees.

He was presumed dead as pirate raiding parties have been harrying before we crossed Forlorn pass.

So there is your Redforge history.

As an aside, glad I got to kill some Duergar with that Addy Handaxe before I gave it back to him!

Much to the DuskCleric's surprise, Jarga clinches his hand on his wrist and delivers a shocking grasp that sends firey sparks in all directions.
When the Fire Sorcerer demands he Yield, the Cleric's red eyes narrow as he lifts a foot to kick Jarga in the face, forcing you back on your heels.
Then, as he raises his greatmaul to finish you, a waft of yellow haze envelops the face of the Evil Cleric as Sam's Daze spell forces him to lose a turn!
(Fail will save 13. Sam just saved Jarga's life! The original action was hit AC 13 for 10 damage)

Tahni runs across the field in an attempt to deflect fire from the refugees, only to be sidestepped and tripped by the Trog Scout. She falls to the earth and the Scout 14 takes a step back and fires an arrow into her side (((( Hit AC 19 for 3 damage))))

Boomy assaults the DarkShaman with a lovely flouret of guirisame followed by kicks and punches. The shaman dodges all of them, but the last kick smashes the ribcage of the shaman, making him cough blood.
The shaman then turns tail and runs away... full retreat. He shouts in Draconic, "Keep him off me!"
Heeding the shaman's call, Trog Scouts 17, 21, and 22 all begin firing round after round of arrows at Boomy. The nimble monk dodges and deflects the first two volleys (Miss AC 16 and 15), but one arrow gets through and pierces his thigh (((( HIT Ac 24, fail confirm crit 5, for 7 damage))))))

On the other side of the field, Devlin fires two bolts, making the Scout 19 drop to one knee and hold the wound tightly (disabled)
Braugh quickly dispatches the last two Scouts in front of him with an overhand chop followed by a sideswipe across the neck, sending frozen lizard blood into the air from the open wounds, and then runs to Dende's side.

The Dwarf with a large black beard spurs his riding black bear to charge the DuskCleric lance first! The Cleric deflects it to the side, though grunting through the strain. A second attack comes in the form of a boot to the face, that is also deflected by platemail (Miss AC 9, nat 1 and Miss AC 16)
He shouts amongst the clanging metal of battle, "Death to the AshScale!"

He is followed shortly thereafter by the mounted cleric, who raises his staff and a white wave of healing energy wafts over everyone in the camp, healing Jarga, Tahni, Dende, and Dopey for 7 hp.
Braugh feels a sigh of relief as he sees Dende's eyes open and breath inhale.

Immediately as Dende awakens, despite the nasty blood clotted on his head, he charges the Cleirc! A silver aura radiates from him as he wields divine force behind his hammer. (Miss AC 9)

RedForge charges across the field and jumps into the air just before overhand chopping the ground at Scout 20's feet (Miss AC 13, nat 1)

Sam smiles at the blank expression on the dusk cleric's face. That's a one time trick Jarga. I can't save you again. You might want to let the tough guys take him on.

Upon seeing the scout approach the refugees, Sam springs into action. He steps closer to the scout and with a quick, magical gesture casts daze on the new target.

Lying on her back, Tahni turns her head to the side and spies the Trog shaman trying to flee "The shaman! Stop the shaman!" she calls out, as she gets back on her feet, eyeballing the scout in front of her. Her arrow wound was healed as quickly as it was caused, and though her clothes may be bloodied, she stands at full health (Move action to stand up)

She is empty handed, regetting that she was not strong enough to maintain her grip on the adamantine dagger. Still, she stands between the Trog and the children - exactly where she should be. Determined not to let it get past her, she holds up her hand and sends a vivid cone of clashing colors towards the scout (Cast Color Spray. Will Save vs DC12)

(OOC: Ignore the D20 roll. I was going to try another combat manuever, but didn't realise I had been knocked down. Had to use the move action to stand up instead)

With his blood raging Devlin sees an ash scout threatening Tahni and the children. With a low snarl he fire both crossbows at the creature. The distance and his injuries make it difficult for him to see whether he hit.

As the reinforcements surge into the ranks and the fight looks to be won Devlin is able to finally relax. The last minute or so had been rough on the scrawny Dwarf and he is beginning to feel it. What was that voice and where did it come from? Looking down at his left arm. Whatever it was it allowed me to reload and fire even though I'm sure me arm is broken. We've been at this too long were all on edge makin' rash decisions. Now I be hearin' voices. Shakes his head slowly to clear his thoughts. I need a good meal and a good night sleep

Jarga feels a surge of healing and though he still feel stabs of pain he is strong enough to stand and, seeing the Cleric's eyes roll back in head for a moment, he quickly steps away.

"Sam is right" he muses to himself as he moves west. He eyes the scout attacking Baenor and considers; with that scout down the cleric would be surrounded by dwarves fiercer than he. That settled it.

He mumbles something that sounds oddly like "Chilli-flakeius intobascosauceral!" and another ray of dancing, radiant heat arrows towards the already singed scout.

Jarga's stomach grumbles.

Boomy swears under his breath as the shaman retreats. Come back you coward! Boomy swings again with his guirsame and misses by a mile. As the shaman retreats Boomy pulls out his trusty ring. He had hoped for once to make it through a battle without drawing upon its powers, but once again he finds himself too slow and too weak to rely upon his own strength. Drawing upon the rings power he sends forth a wave of flame directed at the shaman.

Hey guys! Here is my character so far. Please look it over and let me know what you think. I still have to write up my character history and motivation (still noodling that one) and my mount has to wait until I hear back from Addison on a question.

Also, can I use hero points to re-roll HP during character creation? Or is that a no-no? Thanks!

Zach R: Unless it just changed with the APG, we have always rerolled HP's with Hero Points. I'm going to research.

Rob C: It changed with the APG :) No more rerolling HPs. You can only reroll D20s. That being said, as it's for a new character and everyone else had the rerolls up until now, maybe you could sweet-talk your friendly DM into letting you do it?

HIT POINTS

All classes get maximum hit points at 1st level. At levels above the 1st, all ones are re-rolled. Online, all hit point rolls must be rolled in the Loot and Booty. A hero point can be used to re-roll the score. In this case, the best of the rolls will be used. Keep records of how many hps are rolled at each level noting any Con Adjustments."

ooc-Hey Miyoshi. Welcome again. I have 2 things relating to my character abilities that you need to know for posting purposes.

1- I use "inspire courage" during combat. Once I start it, I don't stop it. It gives all who can hear me +1 to hit/damage and also vs fear/charm. Make sure you add the bonuses to your rolls. I will give notice if it will end due to Sam running out of performance rounds.

2- I have a bardic ability called "inspire competence". It uses a round of my performance and gives you a +2 skill check. If you need a boost on an important skill roll outside of combat (not stealth) declare my use of the ability. Don't ask, just use it!

I changed my fullplate to masterwork and added my +2 bonus to a save from Order of the Sword. Thanks for picking those out. As for my hit points...

Zach R: also should only have 2 hero points I believe.

Rob C: Bzzzt! :) Per the wiki: "Acquiring: Each character begins play with 1 hero point at level 1. We also want to mention that we usually give folks half rounded down of max hero points when starting a character that is not 1st level." So a level 3 character gets 1 Hero Point to start off with, which will actually put you on par with most of the party - unless you choose to use it to reroll HP, which I would do before the wiki gets updated to say that people can't do it anymore ;)

OOC: Congrats to Laurie/Jarga for winning the "best player post of October" comp that Jerry was running. The Forged players now have the use of a teamwork feat from the APG to use throughout November. So if anyone has any strong feelings about which one they think would be of benefit to us, yell it out. I'd like to propose that as the winner, Jarga/Laurie gets to make the final decision as to which one we go with.

OOC: I like outflank and precise strike. Looks like Devlin may be mixin it up in melee a bit more this month. Between the precise strike, sneak attacks and dual wielding with the extra +2 to hit I will be able to put out a lot of damage in one round of combat.

You guys rock. Happy Halloween. Sorry for the lack of posting, crazy weekend. So Miyoshi is joining, James is leaving, and Ben is rejoining right? Good! Now lets go

A lot of this happens at the same time:

Braugh charges through the battlefield, slides down the hill, jumps over the fire and declares the shaman shall not escape.

In his charge, he passes Siv, who was previously known as Dwarven Soldier 3. Charging in from the NorthEast on her large Chocobo (((((Siv, please give me a charging attack and damage roll against Trog Scout 21! Welcome to the game!)))))

Trog Scout 17, 21, and 22 all fire volleys of arrows at Siv and her mount, hitting AC 23 for 7 damage as arrows clang off your armor, one draws blood.

Then, Boomy uses the power of his Solis ring to fire a ray of flame across the field. As soon as Braugh get close to the Shaman, Boomy's ray hits him, igniting is innards and with a waaaaaaiiiiiilll, the Shaman bursts into flame and falls to the ground, bleeding out.

It smells like burnt lizard.

Jarga sends a wave of heat through the negative energy that further ignites the Scout 12, allowing Baenor to finish the job with a swipe of his greatsword.

Sam casts a blue haze around Scout 14, that makes himsss quiiiteee woooozy. a
Then Tahni blasts the same scout with an array of clolors, making him back, losing control of bodily functions as he falls to the ground.

Then, as the Trog 14 stumbles back from the two spells, two of Devlin's bolts clash into his chest, sending him to the afterlife.

The Dwarven Bear-Rider plants his Dwarven Axe into the Cleric (HIt AC 26 for 9 damage)
As the battle continues.

The Troglodyte Dusk Cleric wields his mace with deadly purpose as he deflects oncoming attacks.
He looks about and sees his army being slowly dismantled around the defending dwarves.
He breathes deep and shouts in lizardtongue (Linguistics DC 16 Highlight to display spoiler: {, "For Marteaus"}

And a wave of negative energy emanates from him, causing the life energy to drain from everyone.

((((( Jarga, Tahni, and Sam, please make a DC 16 Will save or take 17 points of Negative Energy damgae))))

Half the children are in range of the burst and fall to the ground immediately.
Spellcraft or Knowledge Religion DC 14 Highlight to display spoiler: { You see their souls begin to take form and waft away a Gargul's hand passes through the dwarves.}

He smiles as the surviving adult dwarves stair in disbelief and shock.
