Tersers grit and determination have won over most of the crowd. It's easy to cheer the hero against the giant monster, and today is no different. His blows land again, several times, and the final one is enough. In a spray of slobber and droop, Tencents head snaps aside and he falls onto his back.
Who knows if Terser would have won a straight up fight? His final tactic and gambit, pushing the monster back into the swarm of dire crocs, was probably what made the difference. In the end, he is the victor.

Except maybe Bralin. His next fight is against Jada, Tersers own sister.

When Tencent falls, Terser is at first shocked. He had not thought that he would make it through that one. On a different playing field, it could have easily gone another way. Another few seconds here and an unlucky blow or two and he'd have been done for. He reaches down a hand to help the bear to his feet.Well fought, sir.
After this fight, he wonders if there might be a theme. Grandpa, then Tencent. How will bears factor into his third match?

Tencent falls back into his human form, naked, with no hint of modesty. He takes Tersers arm and wobbles on his feet. He gives the dwarf a long look before trudging back towards his corner.
Rills curiosity of the crocodiles isn't long held. A pair of spellcasters cast ranged healing spells on the survivors, and a second pair summon another one to the field. It seems that when the animals die, they die.
Fang and Tahni applaud their friend, and even Gort behind them and the canid beastman beside them seem swept up in the moment.

"Red side." Heathers instructions to Bralin are brief. She doesn't offer much assessment. "I think your first round fight was harder than this one. Popular opinion is she won because she took less bleeding damage than her opponent. She's a cleric, through and through. She's lucky to have made the second round."
Jada's corner seems to be giving her a million pointers, most of which she ignores. After a moment, she brushes off the advice and moves to shake hands with Bralin before the round. "Don't go easy on me now. I have every intention of making it past you and to my brother. Either way, I wish you no ill will beyond our bout." She offers out a hand to Bralin.
Afterwards, they are expected to take the field.
Bralin.
Roll initiative. Roll Perception. Know Engineering.
From Terser, you learned.
1. The water is toxic, and the fort saves get harder each time. 2. There are 3 crocodiles. 3. They hold attacks for those who fall in. 4. When one is defeated they back off for a round.

Those not in the fight fuss over the successful Terser. After this round though, he and Bralin will meet in the semifinals. Though, that doesn't happen until tomorrow.
Gort seems chuffed. "It should be me in there against him. The lass outsmarted me. Twasn't a proper fight."
Elsewhere, with their last fighter defeated, Last Whisper seems to be packing up to leave. Only one of their members, Caisyth, the Tiefling wizard, seems to be staying around. Khloud is clearly frustrated, and the cracks in his typically calm demeanor are many. A couple of onlookers, clearly unaware of his worse natures, are attempting good natured ribbing.
"Darn! I lost money twice betting on your people. Last Whisper? More like Last Whimper!" His mate laughs. "Or Lost Wager?!" As the two chuckle on, neither seem to notice Khlouds weapons sliding from its sheath.

Rill sees Kahlid reach for his weapons, so he raises his voice as he speaks to those chiding the touchy man.
"Ah gentlemen, be careful what you assume about The Last Whipser - there is more to them than it would appear. Kahlid here is not a many to be trifiled with, and he knows the real prize is the final competition. I'm sure he would not do anything to jeopardize that. Perhaps these losses are part of their plan to boost their odds."
Rill hopes Kahlid takes his meaning that he should not attack these men. He will fix the man with his gaze as he speaks to drive home his message, and he will move to aid them if Kahlid should still attack.

The immediate crisis revolving around Last Whisper is a tense one. Khloud hears Rill, and noticed Jozhur stand. He says something, and a few of his own fellows stand and prepare to draw weapons as well. Only when the spectators realize their good natured ribbing is not welcome, do they quickly shut and and scuttle out of the way.
Last Whisper passes on through, leaving only an oblivious Caisyth alone in the stands. He is staring at Jada's equipment greedily, taking notes.
Gort pipes up. "I dunn know if those guys are going to last until the tournament starts. They'll kill someone and get disqualified, sure as sunlight."

Bralin is slow to start, and lets Jada take the initiative. Her sturdy armor and posture indicate that she's trained in combat, but a true artist with a weapon like those who would usually challenge Bralin. The only thing that might give him pause is a strange device she wears, a harness of sorts. As the fight starts, she enables it, and something like a timer starts begins ticking. What the timer does, and what the effect of the contraption is, whether its an active boost or something that happens when the timer ends, is beyond him.
She moves up behind her large shield, and plants it in a defensive posture.

Tahni looks carefully at Jada's gear, in particular that strange device, trying to determine what she might have at her disposal
Tahni ponders the device. She's too far away to see it as well as Bralin can, but it does appear to be a counting timer, surrounded by a weaving adamantine casing. Its immediate effects are unclear, and what happens at the end of the count is anyones guess.
Fang, Jozhur, and the others still get some bad vibes from Khloud. The new fight is starting to draw some boos, for its relatively gentle start.

Bralins hammer comes down over the top of Jada's shield, and her knees buckle. she dips her shield, and Bralin notices that the crazy woman is smiling. He hears the whir of gears and then suddenly find himself surrounded by fire and smoke.
From the stands, its hard to make out the fighting at the center of the ball of fire. The explosion is massive, and the shockwaves send the dirt and debris from the stands scattering about the arena. Jada coughs, clearly on her last legs, and backs away from the crumbling bridge. The harness was destroyed in the blast, it seems.
Bralin, 136 damage, Reflex Save DC 20 for half.. If failed, Fort Save DC 25 or be stunned for 1 round.
Also: Fort Save DC 20 or Blinded for 3 rounds. Also: fort Save DC 25 or be Deafened for 1 round.

While impressive, it doesn't seem like it's enough to take out Bralin, unless it drops him in the swamp like he was a couple times. With the bridge damaged, it will be much harder to climb out.

The woman's smile gives Bralin enough warning that the trick he's been anticipating is at hand. The dwarf dances to avoid the brunt of the blow.
A desperate effort, and clearly tied to dropping him into the water below. Bralin wonders if Jada knew of the bridge beforehand, or manufactured this harness after seeing it, or happened to already have it. He resolves to ask her....once she regains consciousness.
Inexorably, Bralin pursues Jada, and putting some extra effort into his swing, chops down hard.

Rill is as stunned as anyone else by the sudden explosion. Instantly the cleric reaches out with the Status effect of the rings to assure himself the dwarf survived the blast.
As the smoke clears he says, "Bralin's alright. A bit beat up, but alright. I'm surprised such a device is allowed. But then again, I expect the Chancers care more about the spectacle and the odds than the contestants and the rules."
As the Abbot speaks up behind them, he turns to the gnome. "Oh. There you are. Greetings my good Abbot. How are you?"

As Bralin comes charging through the remaining crumbles of brdige, he bears down on Tersers sister. He raises his weapon, and she raises her hand to give him pause.
"I yield.", she huffs. "If a bomb like that can't drop you, I sure as spit can't do it myself. You win." Wobbly, she falls on her back and takes a deep breath or two. The crowd, inspired to new heights by the explosion and destruction of the bridge, just cheer in unison at the dwarf who survived it. Kozy takes it from there. "That's it for that one folks, you can't die in the arena but even top level warriors get tired of getting hit! Jada withdraws, and Bralin wins!"
In the stands, the old monk laughs. "I'm well, Rill. I thought I would check in with your group and see how things have been going. I noticed you avoided coming to blows with Last Whisper, and you have a Mailed Fist fighter with you. I can hope for the best?"
Those who are examining the blast can only conclude that since the fight wasn't stopped by judges, it must have been mechanical in nature and not magical. Whether or not Jada had anything to shield her from the explosion herself is another mystery that only she can answer. It is a frightening indicator of the type of challenges the dragons can expect from her tinkering.

She gives him a salute, but then decides to escort him all the way to the stands, and then decides to wedge in between Bralin and Terser, while smiling at all the others.
"So boys, girls, who buys the losers drinks?"

Terser reminds Tahni that the 3rd and 4th matches are set for tomorrow, and a good thing too. He's used up about half his energy for extra intense fighting today, so he wouldn't want to go up against another fighter or two that doesn't need to overexert themselves to fight at their best.
While we have you here, Jada - this tournament has got me seeing that some of my gear is as old as you! I had to borrow some boots to even think about keeping up with my extra mobile opponents. Anything in your bag of tricks that could give me an edge? I'd be happy to buy from my FLTS (friendly local tech store)

There's no real trouble in the arena right now, especially since Last Whisper has departed. The monk has nothing new to share, he was checking on your progress, and hoping to learn what you had found so far.

In the Arena, Fang has the leading initiative. She is placed in the red corner, and given the go ahead to begin. The arena itself hasn't changed at all during the second round. It seems they intended for several fights to happen over alligator alley.

From the last matches you have learned that the crocs disperse when one is killed, they prepare attacks for anyone falling into the water, and that they are bog standard dire crocodiles with some amount of training or programming at work.

Fang moves quickly across the bridge, and Runt tries to circle around it. skirting the edge of the swamp. He swings a large, complicated looking crossbow from under his cloak, and fires a round at Fang. The bolt sails true and hits Fang in the leg.

"I'm sorry! He shouts. "I'm sorry if it hurts!" Weirdest of all, he seems genuine.
Jada bonks Terder on the noggin with her mug. "Well, yeah I can make stuff. No more bombs though, I've only got one of those left, and it needs to stay in place. I can make all sorts of gadgets. I even made something for the kid out there. I wonder if he'll use it."
Rill and the master monk watch the fight for a moment. "The gods aren't happy with whoever is behind this, I imagine. The entire pantheon seems tense, and more moody than usual."
Jozhur, Tahni, and Aexana all watch the bout. The Fangs of the Beast are in the arena too, but most seem a bit disinterested in the match. Only Mirri and Kirri and watching and cheering. The rest seem think the match is a foregone conclusion.

Fangs combat dash is effective, and unfortunately for Runt, his crossbow does not have exploding bolts.
Rather than fight back, Runt quickly goes on the move. He makes an adjustment to the side of Fang, and suddenly dives headfirst into the water. (Withdraw action)
There's no immediate churning of the water to indicate the dire crocs are on the attack.

The monk shakes his head. "I don't know, and I'm sure the kidnappings are connected to the whole .. event .. and its difficulties. But to answer you directly Rill, in my experience, movement among their pantheons or a disturbance among their followers. Has the consortium had interactions among the divines lately? Have you any long term foes of that magnitude?" He ponders the things he's been told for a moment, though he seems distracted by the arena match.
Jada smiles at Rill. "You'll know it when you see it. Otherwise, I'll keep it secret for now. I don't want to ruin the surprise." Rills inspection of the crossbow, from this distance, is not too helpful. It certainly seems to be a masterpiece weapon, but its oddity comes from its repeating mechanisms and the fact it is fed by a belt that connects to something under his cloak. Most repeating crossbows use a disposable cylinder of bolts, rather than this method, whatever it might be.

(I'm confused as to which icon I am. I think I moved the wrong one the first round, cause when I checked things had been reversed, so the next round I moved the other and now it's just been taken off the field entirely.)
Retreating from Fang once she was ranging next to you was not an easy task as the archer soon finds. She is no more then a step behind him chopping away the entire time.
No escape class feature lets her follow as an immediate action thus get full attack after they both move

Fangs prey dashes into the water, and soon after she sprints in behind. She dives into the water after Runt, only to find that it looks more or less like he's vanished among the seaweed and plants along the depths of the swamp.
Underwater, fang guess the depth is 20 feet or more, and the whole thing is seemingly cut in a perfect cube. Fang also notice that she's not alone under here, the crocodiles seem to have noticed her. Runt seems to be as good at hide and seek as Jozhur.
Fang: Opposed perception, DC 26 Fang: Fort save, DC 20 Runt: Fort save -3, Pass.
Two crocodiles snap their jaws ferociously, but only one connects with our raging hero.

Tersers warning falls on deaf ears. As soon as he shouts, Fang hits the water and goes into the murk. Bralin is more distracted by questions of the monk. So too, do the other Dragons seem suddenly occupied.
The only foe that the Dragons can remember not explicitly destroying is one entity known as the Tinker. Billpool too, may not be quite dead, but was certainly stopped from achieving diefic power.

Unable to find the enemy Fang ends her rage and falls back, not willing to stay in the dangerous waters that her foe is clearly more comfortable in. She with draws to the shore and tries to find a space she can't be seen from unless he surfaces, which would hopefully draw the crocs to him.
(If the walls are an easy climb she can withdraw and prevent an AoO, if she has to climb the bridge to get out then she provokes AoO from nearest crocs)

Fang falls back out of the water, and the crocodiles leave her be. Fang suddenly sprouts another crossbow bolt. Fang takes 25 damage.
Perception: DC 14 to spot Runt sniping from under the bridge. Perception: DC 1, to spot the Dire Crocodiles, who spotted Runt, sniping from under the bridge!
Both Crocodiles suddenly lunge forward, snapping their jaws at something in the water.
Runt: 32 damage.

Up in the stands, the monk sighs. "Like your Fang, this Runt is too impulsive. He took the time to formulate a plan, but he never considered whether or not he had the skill to pull it off. I think he thought he would resist the poison, hide from the crocodiles, and whittle Fang down all match. Unfortunately, he's not quite at that level. He won his first match using his head too, withdrawing and using bolts to whittle down a rampaging fighter. He will be a good asset for the Fangs of the Beast in time, his body just can't keep up with his mind."

Now that's a tactic Aex appreciates. She's never been on the frontline either so she kinda favours the hide 'n snipe Runt tries. When the crocs attack the little Greenmage holds her breath... ok it wasn't Fang but she didn't wish a croc bite for Runt either.

Fang sees Runt as he pops up and the crocs jumping him (30 and 14). She takes a moment to assess the wound and how best to remove the arrow while she waits without damaging herself (heal 9? Mostly just a RP moment, not actually trying to recover health or anything)
She's fairly confident the crocs and the poison will finish off her foe long before there's actually a risk of him killing her. She takes a seat and puts her axe on her legs and waits, trying to judge line of sights and ready to dodge any arrows while being a small a target as possible (Total defense, +4 AC (34 total), is there any spot on the battlefield he can't see her at? without leaving the pool?)

Fangs strategy is a fine one. No sooner than she starts fussing with an arrow, there's a ruckus in the pools. Runt starts to drag himself out, only to get caught and pulled by in by a pair of dire crocodiles.
"It hurts! It hurts!", he screams. He tries to escape, but is caught fast in a grapple from the animals in the swamp.

The crowd, not really expecting something like this at all, becomes a mixture of jeers and laughter. From the Fangs of the Beast sideline, there's a ruckus as people start ducking and running. Mirri and Kirri are giving quite a tongue lashing to those who were taking aim at poor Runt, and more than one fellow seems to have a mostly harmless knot on the head.

Tahni watches them closely and then casts a spell of her own. She points at Miri, Kiri, Mint, a dozen or so of the people ducking and running, and a couple of guards and casts a Message spell
"Looks like some people are getting unruly and not appreciating the fight. The Sea Dragons are currently observing and are ready to intervene and assist if required. We trust it will be resolved peacefully and that weapons and spells won't be involved. "
She believes the message is general enough for all the recipients to understand, though each may interpret it differently.

Fang is a little curious about how battle hardened Runt is. She figured if he was in such a powerful group he had been in many scrapes in the past and would be used to injury in combat. Perhaps not though. She kind of feels sorry for him but since this is a non-lethal contest and he'll live (though be in a lot of pain) she doesn't intervene. It's actually more stressful to just sit and watch then for her to have been doing the deed herself - her every instinct as a healer and defender of the weak is screaming at her to go help him.

Rill can see that his friends are using some subtle means to warn the Fangs off. Rill instead gets up from his seat. He turns to Jozhur, "C'mon Jozhur. Let's see if we can put ourselves in a better position to intervene if necessary. Sir Abbot, perhaps you want to go too. After all, the monks are charges with keeping the peace for this event."
Rill hastily moves from his seat and through the stands to where the Fangs are, trusting that his reputation and his stark white clothing make him stand out in this crowd. Jozhur and the Abbot are much more adept at moving though these crowds, and Rill hopes that his more obvious approach will provide them with some cover.

The Dragons begin to congregate on the Fangs while their own Fang just watches feeding time happen. When Tahni starts issuing warnings, Mirri and Kirri turn their scowls on her. Then Rill stands, so Grandpa stands. Then Jozhur suddenly jumps into the shadows, and in response, Kirri and Mirri both do the same, practically vanishing from sight. One, at the end of a spell, and the other, at the drop of a hat.
Mint finishes her spell, and the Dragons find that other than those with a few lumps on noggins from laughing at Runts misfortune, no one is in any real danger. Well, no one but the crocodiles.
Four red balls streak from the stands into the monstrous amphibians. They all punch through the animals tough hides, then explode. Each small meteor detonates with the force of a fireball, and steam hisses upwards from the arena into the stands, blocking vision in the entire field. Several moments pass, and when the smoke clears, the crocodiles are dead, and Mint is in the arena, holding Runt easily by the scruff of his neck.

"He forfeits.", Mint says flatly, before she magically pops back into the stands with the disheveled young archer in tow. She says aloud, to no one in particular. "Hiding implies hunting. Hunting is a life or death proposition. Consider carefully whether or not that's your intention."
A few moments later, both Mirri and Kirri reveal themselves. "One of them is stalking, Mint. It was only fair."

With his comrades moving to deescalate the fight in the stands, Bralin continues to watch the match.
He nods as Fang awaits the outcome of the fight in the water, and is rather surprised as the meteors explode on the water.
Looking up, he absorbs Mint's warning, and snorts. They are nearly as short tempered as Rill, he notes with a slight twinkle.

It's a minor difference, but her tone is clear. To forfeit is to surrender graciously. Outside assistance or breaking the rules is a disqualification.

Huh, ok then. Fang shrugs and gets up. She'll have to find Runt later and chat, help him feel better about the match. He had a decent plan, just couldn't stay hidden from the crocs. She wonders if she can now claim that her enemies are so afraid of her they fed themselves to crocs rather then face her.

Aexana is curious about the next round, but there isn't one. Attendees start filing out of the stadium. The Martial Tournament will conclude tomorrow. Terser congratulates Fang, who is shocked a bit at the sudden ending of the match. Tahni thinks that disqualification is the right title for the move, not forfeiture, but the result is the same. Fang is moving on to fight her sister in the next round.
Bralin and Rill are nearby when the head monk of Domi exhales loudly. "I'm glad that she ended that one, honestly. If only to prevent further scuffles. [b]Rill can easily note a few monks moving in the crowd, administering to anyone concerned over their scuffle-lumps.
Now that the days matches are over, one issue remains. You have a date, time, location, and depth hand scrawled on what basically amounts to an invitation. The question is trusting it. The Dragons will need to decide how, and if, they respond to the information.

After the round, the Dragons join the crowds emptying out of the stadium, with their escort from the Mailed Fist in tow. Back at the Village, they find Heather there waiting for them, with a cake in hand.
"I should have expected it, but I didn't! A perfect record today! I saw all the fights but Fangs final, but looking at Runt, it seemed like a forgone conclusion. Spirits high, right? Who wants a celebration cake!?"

Is Tahni paranoid? Perhaps, but since they got here people have been trying to sabotage them.

Tahin's divinations reveal nothing untoward about the cake. It's clean, poison free, and probably just a bit sweet for the dwarven palate. Tersers inspection reveals that the cake is moist, but the icing is getting warm and starting to lose its form just a little.
Better eat it quick.
Heather has both rum and coffee available. "Wine is for dark chocolate, and this is vanilla."

The dwarf sets upon the cake like a starving, well, dwarf. And has several mugs of rum to go with it.
"Who is the fourth semi-finalist?" he wonders aloud.

Rill politely skips the cake. "Thank you Heather, but I have other things pulling at me that have upset my stomach a bit."
He will wait until we are alone, and then compose himself. He goes over the names of the missing team members, and he reads over the notes indicating a time and place. He lights some incense and begins his meditation, casting Divination, asking his God, "What awaits us should we appear at the designated time and place indicated in the notes that were left behind?"
(Rolled a 40 - success!)
Then he takes out some rather expensive incense, lights it as he casts Commune, and again meditating as he asks:
