The Tunnel

DM Carl - 15 rounds
Tuesday March 31st, 2020 12:33:07 PM

Everyone runs. With a full round of just running, everyone should be able to make it through that door.

The door closes behind the party and plunges them into darkness. Our dwarves find their darkvision doesn't work, but they don't have long to ponder this. In the darkness, the floor moves violently beneath the party. Our heroes are tossed around without any real sense of where they're moving to. About 30 seconds later, it abruptly ends.

Two bright lights shine at either end of a long tunnel. It's about 500' wide. One light is immediately behind them, the other at the far end. The magical darkness effect has ended. The areas closest to the lights have normal light. 60' away from the lights, it's dim light.

Terser (Warren) [AC22/13/19 - CMD 30 - HP 255/255, DR 4/-, Regen 1, Mind Blank] (SR21, 25% no crit, rage 38/43, channel 7/7)

I don't trust this. Should we cross all together? Or stagger ourselves?

Terser is slightly faser than the others, so he'll move just enough to keep only a few feet ahead of the others. That is, unless a button makes itself apparent, in which case he'll sprint to it.

Rill (MarkB) HP 136/152 - AC 28/20/26
Tuesday March 31st, 2020 1:35:36 PM

"Ugh. Glad to be done with that that stupid tree. I wonder where we are now? Do your dwarven senses tell you anything about depth or direction? Is this normal stone around us?

"Looks like it gets dark ahead. I don't want to slow us down because I can't see."

Rill will smear some salve on his eyes as he casts True Seeing on himself. Then he will move ahead 30', sensing for constructs and outsiders as he goes, relying on Foresight to alert him to dangers. He'll start running next round.

-----------------------------------------------
True Seeing - The subject sees through normal and magical darkness, notices secret doors hidden by magic, sees the exact locations of creatures or objects under blur or displacement effects, sees invisible creatures or objects normally, sees through illusions, and sees the true form of polymorphed, changed, or transmuted things. Further, the subject can focus its vision to see into the Ethereal Plane (but not into extra-dimensional spaces). The range of true seeing conferred is 120 feet.

Foresight - This spell grants you a powerful sixth sense in relation to yourself or another. Once foresight is cast, you receive instantaneous warnings of impending danger or harm to the subject of the spell. You are never surprised or flat-footed. In addition, the spell gives you a general idea of what action you might take to best protect yourself and gives you a +2 insight bonus to AC and on Reflex saves. This insight bonus is lost whenever you would lose a Dexterity bonus to AC.

Sense Outsider - Sense direction and distance to any outsider, fey, demon, devil, or elemental within 1,080 ft., even through solid objects.

Sense Construct - Sense direction and distance to any any construct, animated object, or golem within 1,080 ft., even through solid objects.

Aex nervously watches how her friends make it into the tunnel.
She figures it's worse to just standing here being unable to do anything than being down there...

[Perception 17, 19 for unusual stonework]

Getting to his feet, Bralin nods at Rill's suggestion, and tries to figure out if they are actually underground, as well as trying to spot any hazards.

He moves after Terser, but not nearly as quickly.

Terser don't trust this. He decides to take off ahead of the rest of the group.

Rill has several magical accompaniments that are really going to come in handy. His true seeing spell helps him see through the glare of the light to notice what it actually is: a window. There's also a small hidden handle beneath it.

As soon as he starts to move down the tunnel, his foresight spell warns him it's not a good idea.

Bralin's knowledge falls short here, unfortunately. The pressure here indicates they haven't descended any, but that's about it. The stonework doesn't appear to be noteworthy. It's just a nondescript tunnel.

Aexana watches nervously as her friends complete the statue obstacle. She's watched other teams navigate this tunnel, so she knows what to expect. So does Bezos, though he remains impassive. Eyebrows furrow as Terser and the rest start to move, but one rises when he sees Rill respond to something.

"Come on, dummies!" says Octavius. "Figure it out already! I got a lot riding on all of you!" It's the most animated he's been since he got here. He's even stopped eating. Gambling seems to bring out the worst in him, which is saying something.

"Pull yourself together, friend." It's Lew speaking this time. "You can lose this wager 1000 times and still be one of the wealthiest here."

"Not the point though, is it?" is the response from Razma. The man has not regained his sense of humor...

Rill shouts a warning to Terser, "Terser, come back. I think that tunnel ahead is a ruse, and I have a bad feeling about it. The light here by us is actually shining through a window, and there's a hidden handle here just below the window. See. It's right here."

Rill will reach down to turn the handle once Terser is back, relying on his Foresight to warn him if this is a terrible move.

Terser hustles back, bracing himself for whatever happens when Rill pulls on the window handle.

Bralin stops at Rill's words, and also returns to their starting point.

(Also, since turning this handle is a move action (like opening a door or moving an object), Rill will also take a standard action to cast a spell.)

Rill first casts Moment of Prescience on himself.

The longer the gauntlet takes the more anxious Aex gets. She also senses Octavius is getting agitated too... she's never been the greatest diplomat but with everything that is being said it seems there's a lot going on beneath her radar...

"Go slow friends... I need you to come in second... sorry" the little Greenmage thinks... who knows her thoughts carry through the magic blockade...
