The Return of the Sarr

Tahni asks for the date, and the Harbormaster gives it to her. Sure enough, you have been gone for just over a month.

You head for the Lionfish to speak with Tula. As you approach, you see her up on the deck of the ship, in intense conversation with someone who looks familiar. After a moment, you place him--he is Eloi Kole, the representative of the House of Teeth from Dirt City; the guy who bought Dealer's Choice from you.

Bits of their conversation drift toward you.

"--some kind of lease arrangement or something," Tula says.
Kole says something about salvage rights.
"--adventurers....trouble. I'm not convinced they're gone," Tula replies.
"But without a crew--" the rest of Kole's reply is too quiet to hear.

By this time, you are approaching the gangplank. A couple of tough-looking guys stand at the top; you recall that Kole typically travels with bodyguards. "Boss," one of them says quietly, looking at you.

Tula and Kole look your way, and the next thing you know, Tula lets out a whoop. "Ha! Told you!" she says. "And I told those lily-livered deserters, too. They'll be back, I said, and look!" She frowns suddenly. "And just where in Wardd's name have you been?" she asks.

It's shaping up to be quite a scene, but you might not get to finish it. Zeoll feels a sudden sharp pain and pulls out the little ritual book. It feels as if the thing bit you! It falls open to the last page, and you see there is yet one more ritual to be completed. You feel a sense of urgency, as if it must be done right away!

Aexana watches the scene from the back of the pack... she was caught in her own dark mind pondering the nature of the weeds and they why all this happened. From what she hears, Tula sure remained true to her position aboard the Fish! At least that's a clear proof of her loyalty and friendship towards the Black Lions.

Then she notices Zeoll checking his behind suddenly...

"Bees sure can sting right old friend... Don't worry I have a great salve to take away the pain... euhm... where's the bee?? "

"You and your charge may leave now," he informs them.

Zeoll reveals all that he learns to his friends.

"This book says we have not finished the thing we set out to do. Let's stand on the deck of the Lionfish and follow this last page!"

He tells the crew to stand back.

If a Perform check is needed, Zeoll says a prayer, uses the manfri pipes and gets a 35.

Rill follows Zeoll and the others aboard.

"Well, I guess our visit to the Catacombs will have to wait.

"Ah, Eloi Kole! Good to see you again. I'm not quite sure what you were discussing with out First Mate Tula there, but you can see that the news of our demise was a bit premature. If all is good between you two, then I hope we can buy you and your men a drink when we return. And if all is not well with you Mr. Kole, we will settle things with you then. But rest assured that Tula is always under our protection."


He look at the two bodyguards. "And remember - we have dwarves."

Then he addresses Tula. "Tula, we're terribly sorry to have been gone for so long, but it seems time moves more slowly in the Twilight Vales. As usual, you're in charge of the Lionfish until our return. I'm not sure when that will be, but here are some funds to tide you over until then. And if you need to sell that Swan Boat Feather Token I gave you some time ago, please do not hesitate to do so."

Rill hands her a sack of coins - about 200 GP in all. He then moves to where Zeoll is on deck, intentionally paying no more attention to Eloi Kole.

Zeoll tells his friends that there is one more ritual left to complete, and proposes performing it on the deck of the Lionfish.

Bralin is way ahead of him, and tells Kole's bodyguards they can leave.

Rill goes Bralin one better, and gives Kole an overt, if polite, warning.

But Kole doesn't look as if he is going to be a problem. "Glad to see you ain't dead," he says, and he seems sincere. "I was just talkin' to your mate here about maybe buying the ship, but I see now it ain't for sale. If it ever was. Let's go, boys." And, gathering his bodyguards, he departs.

You board the Lionfish. A relieved Tula accepts the operating funds from Rill and stands back while you complete the ritual. It doesn't take long, and when it's done....

"Oh, no, not again," Tula says, clinging to the mast. For, once again, the ground has begun to shake. As the shaking intensifies, you all have a sudden vision of the grassy plain you just left being lifted into the air and carried through space!

At the same time, you are being lifted in the air! The Lionfish is seemingly dropping away from under your feet as you rise higher, higher into the air. Stars wheel above you, and you watch as the plain, the Sargrass, moves from its secure pocket dimension and back into the Wold.

And you seem to follow it. Almost as quickly as thought, you travel far, far southward until you are flying above the fabled Southern Continent. As the Sargrass settles beneath you, the Wold gives one final, massive shudder. Looking down, you can see it blends seamlessly with the landscape, as if it had always been there.

You're not quite sure how you're going to get down from here.

Tahni does her best to hold onto the side of the Lionfish and keep her breakfast down. What would you even call this? Sea sickness? Air sickness? Dimensional sickness?

All the thinking does keep her distracted though.

Terser is just jealous that Tahni had found time for breakfast with all the craziness. He looks over the side of the ship, gripping the rails with probably more force than is necessary. He's gotten used to walking in the air, but never quite this high.

At least the Sargrass appears to be in its rightful place.

As the party is lifted off the ship and through the Planes, Zeoll goggles at the sight of the entire country of the Sargrass being moved. Surely that's a sight even for this taur's old eyes. In the back of his head, there is an epic song being composed about this vision.

As the Sargrass is lowered into place in the Wold, Zeoll hovers over the replanted land and looks it over, north to south, east to west. "What a beautiful place!" he says. However, he is a little nervous and seeks out signs that the land remains infected

Aexana is baffled when she and the rest of the crew are lifted of the Lionfish high into the air. While she certainly enjoys being high up in the sky as a bird or so, she's not quite used being up here as her own Gnome self...

"Dunno about you lot but this ring of feather fall might come in handy" she says as she waves her hand... "Who wants this? I'll change shape and fly my way down... "

She's ready to pull of her Ring of Feather Fall and hand it to someone else if anyone wants... then... should the decent be faster than we want it to be, she'll change into Eagle shape...

"Gah!" Jozhur gasps as the party is hoisted into the air. His faces wears an expression of terror as they are flung across the Wold. He starts to calm down as they come to a halt over the southern continent.

"And we had just made it back to port. Is that all there is to do?"

With a stomach churning lurch, Bralin is lifted into the air.

Nothing but stars above and the enormity of the Wold and Sargrass below.
The dwarf's agoraphobia kicks in hard, and he clenches his eyes closed to fight the vertigo.

It is extremely disconcerting, being lifted and flung through space like this. Bralin copes by closing his eyes. Tahni and Aexana attempt to cling to the Lionfish, but alas, the ship did not accompany you and you find yourselves clinging to thin air!

Zeoll has the presence of mind to look around, and sees that there is Bloodweed here, writhing and twisting on the ground. Aexana begins formulating a plan for getting down from here.

To your relief, however, such plans don't seem to be needed. You are lowered gently to the ground--a process that takes a while because you were pretty high up!

As you descend, you get the sense of a shifting, and a refreshing of your internal resources. Almost, you feel as if a new day has begun. [OOC: Everyone receives the effects of a full night's rest. Spellcasters can prepare new spells. Also, any long-term magic effects such as Heroes' Feast and Mage Armor have expired.]

As you approach the ground, you see other, similar groups of adventurers also falling slowly out of the sky. They are all pretty far away--the closest are a good quarter-mile off--and you can see that you and the other groups are being placed in a rough circle. To your right is a group of mostly Medium-sized humanoids, with one smaller person and one minotaur. They seem to be wearing matching outfits. To your left is a group that includes two minotaurs and two smaller people, along with assorted Medium-sized humanoids. It's hard to be sure at this distance, but you think you recognize the minotaurs as Zane and Bosk, the Iron Dragon adventurers who helped you after the hurricane.

You alight on a patch of grass that is thankfully free of Bloodweed. Glancing around, you can see why that is. The Bloodweed is moving, streaking toward the center of the circle, gathering itself into a--what? It's hard to tell.

As Zeoll's ritual book drops to the ground, you all hear a clear voice saying, "You must hold. The fate of the Sargrass--of the very Wold--depends upon it. You hold. Whatever happens, YOU MUST HOLD THE CIRCLE!"

tl;dr New day. New spells. Old spells have worn off. You are in a circle with other adventurers. You need to "hold" it, whatever that means.

Tahni feels quite exposed without her Mage Armor in effect, especially with so many potential hostiles surrounding the group. She casts the spell and then backs up to some of the muscle in the group.

"Wait, is ... is that the Iron Dragons?" she asks nodding towards the left. Tahni actually relaxes a little. She's not sure what is going on but feels better having the Dragon Consortium nearby.

As soon as they land and it becomes obvious they are to "Hold the Circle" whatever that may mean, Aexana makes some preparations. First she sticks her Staff into the ground bringing forth the Staff Treant again. Next she casts Bull's Strength Mass on all standing close to her - casting this at CL11 she can give the buff to 11 creatures around her - she's not casting it on herself. Leafy and the Treant are two so... there are 9 more available.

Bralin lands on good earth, and breathes a sigh of relief.

With "you must hold the circle" ringing in his mind, he takes in the groups to his right and left.

"We have multiple groups in this circle," he observes. "If they all be as mighty as we and the Iron Dragons, and yet the plea to hold is that strongly made, what power are we likely to face?"

Grimly, the dwarf accepts Aex's buff, and casts Shield of Faith upon himself.

Zeoll senses that his spells and other powers have been renewed, and he is grateful. He is glad to be cured.

The old taur grins and accepts the Bull's Strength, although if the battle comes down to his old claws, then it is likely lost! :-)

He does feel naked without his usual spells. He draws his Horn and blows it as a challenge and as a way to establish a magic circle vs evil.

He looks around, especially at the thing in the center of the circle.

Being flung halfway around the world on no notice was disconcerting, but you are adventurers and you recover quickly, turning your attention to what comes next.

Tahni re-casts her Mage Armor; Bralin casts Shield of Faith.

Zeoll blows his horn and Rill casts Air Walk on Bralin

With no spells to cast, Terser readies his rage and stretches a bit.

Aexana summons the Staff Treant. She wants to cast a mass Bull's Strength, but that's going to have to wait just a bit.

The streaming Bloodweed has finally coalesced into a---well, you're still not sure what. Whatever it is, it's immense. Probably 400 feet tall, and over 100 feet wide. Its form is vaguely humanoid, and it seems to be capable of speech.

"MY HOME!" it roars. "MY CHILDREN!"

With one more anguished "NOOOOO!" the Bloodweed creature flings out its arms. Hundreds of creatures of all kinds erupt from the massive form. Many seem to have been tainted by the Bloodweed. All of the creatures are moving as fast as they can toward the perimeter of the circle--running, flying, burrowing toward the adventurers.

Toward you.

They have to cover quite a distance--some 2,000 feet or thereabouts. It will likely take some time.

Unless, of course, some of them can teleport.

[OOC: Everybody can post 2 rounds' worth of actions. Aex can cast her spell now, plus whatever else people will want to do. There is a map here; please arrange yourselves. The monsters are coming from the east (right) side of the map.]

Jozhur moves in front of Tahni and hides. He hopes to protect Tahni and ambush creatures as they go by. He reaches into his bag for a potion of Shield, which he will down at the last moment. Jozhur blends into the shadows and waits, sword in hand. He steels himself for what is sure to be a great battle.

She is grateful for Jozhur's protection and tries to buff him before he vanishes.

Zeoll casts Mage Armor on himself, and then casts Entangle, centered on a foe within 840 ft, or if there are none, then 840 ft toward the center, so that hopefully the enemy may run into its 80 ft diameter.

Aex is clueless about what they are facing... all she can tell is that most of her friends are getting quite nervous... Zeoll's statement that it is an 'immortal power' makes Aex look around... would they notice if she just dissapears?? She's quite small... so... who would notice...
Leafy though gives her a nudge in the back and gives a low humm...
"Yes yes... you are right...", she sighs...

First she cast her Bull's Strength Mass. Anyone willing grabs one. Leafy, Treant and herself are strengthened. Anyone else who wants it take one.

If there's time left she'll have a Stoneskin on the Treant.

Bralin nods once in recognition of Zeoll's words.
"An immortal power," he murmurs, eyeing the oncoming hordes. "Ill news."

The dwarf uses his newly acquired air walk ability to climb as he moves forward, so that he is generally on line and level with the elephant and Tree Creature.

He attempts to discern how much time remains until the foe is upon them.

First, a bit of unfinished business from yesterday. When all of the creatures burst from the Bloodweed creature in the center, Perception DC 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {the Bloodweed creature became noticeably smaller in size.}

Rounds 1 and 2

Jozhur hides, hoping to create an ambush.

Tahni casts Barkskin on Jozhur and Terser, Overland Flihgt on herself, and Haste on the party. Which is the kind of thing you can do if you have a Quicken rod.

Terser summons his trusty elephant and drinks a potion.

Zeoll casts Mage Armor, followed by Entangle. When he casts it, there are no opponents nearby, so he places it in the path of the onrushing attackers, making your DM stop and re-do all her careful calculations!

Aexana goes ahead with her mass Bull's Strength, followed by a Stoneskin on the staff Treant.

Bralin casts Divine Favor and moves into position.

As you are wrapping up your second round of actions, you see big, glowing letters toward the center of the battlefield. They say, SIGNAL IF YOU NEED HELP. GOOD LUCK, EVERYONE. SINCERELY, THE IRON DRAGONS.

The onrushing creatures are beginning to string out a little, with the faster ones moving ahead and the slower ones trailing behind. In front, you see three spectral forms flying at a good clip toward you. But, although they are moving fast, it will take them a few rounds to get here, so maybe you'll have time to--

Oh look, demons.

Two creatures teleport into your midst. They have boar's heads, tiny wings, and thick, fleshy bodies. It's a DC 24 Knowledge Planes to identify them specifically as Highlight to display spoiler: {Nalfeshnee}, but I'll give everybody "some kind of demon" for free. They seem to have been infected with the Bloodweed. Impossibly, they are flying on those tiny wings. Nauseating beams of writhing color twine around their bodies.

And the map. Note that the entire area is difficult terrain, so movement costs double, and there are no 5-foot steps.

Knowledge Planes ... 27. Zeoll hopes that his knowledge is enough to tell him if these creatures are immune to his mental magic.

If they ARE immune, or if Zeoll does not know, then the old taur uses a move action to shift his great shield out of the way [AC20/22], and then uses a standard action to cast Glitterdust, on both demons if he can. Spell resistance does not apply. The Will save vs blindness is base 10 +2level +5cha +2 cradled = DC19.

If Zeoll thinks they are NOT immune to his mental magic, then he keeps his shield up [AC29/31] and casts Suggestion on one of the demons. Round 3

Seeing your unwelcome visitors, Tahni begins a summoning spell.

Zeoll is reasonably sure these creatures can be affected by his mental spells, so he casts Suggestion. He casts powerfully enough to punch through the creature's natural defenses, but the creature's will is strong and it does not succumb. Zeoll takes out a scroll.

Rill casts a quickened Prayer, then attempts to banish one of the demons. Unfortunately, his casting is not strong enough to overcome the creature's natural defenses. [OOC: I'm going to rule that demons don't especially hate or fear Gargul, but don't worry. I saved some undead for ya. :) ]

Jozhur switches weapons.

Bralin calls for a Haste, perhaps not remembering that Tahni Hasted the group just last round. Perhaps you'd like to roll a Hasted attack? :) His first attack hits, but doesn't seem to do quite as much damage as he was expecting.

Terser also attacks, but all three of his attacks miss. His elephant manages to hit once, and does a little damage.

Aexana's Treant and Leafy attack, but are unable to hit. Aex tosses a couple of lightning bolts, but is only able to land one of them.

The writhing colors around both demons suddenly burst outward! All non-demons within 60 feet (which is everybody, I think) must make a DC 21 Will save or be dazed by visions of madness.

The dark-red demon gestures, and Rill, Bralin, Terser, Zeoll, Aexana's Staff Treant, and Terser's elephant must make a DC 17 Will save or be Slowed.

The light-red demon gestures, and a lightning bolt heads right for Aexana! Aex takes 10 damage, DC 17 reflex save for half.

Rill resists both effects by the demon. He then uses a rod to casts an extended Bless, which should affect all our party.

Rill says, "Hey Terser, what say we show them what it means to be caught between two dwarves? With your permission..."

Rill uses his Agile Feet ability to ignore the grasses (if necessary) and takes a 5' move to Terser. He will use a move action to Dimensional Hop himself and the Terser on the other side of the demon to provide flanking for both Terser and Bralin.

Round 4

As you battle, you get brief glimpses of other battles going on around you. To your left, the Iron Dragons seem to be fighting actual dragons! To your right, the group in matching outfits are facing rhinoceroses. Distant shouts and a few explosions echo from various parts of the battlefield.

Tahni finishes summoning a Treant, who casts Haste on itself. Meanwhile, Tahni casts a Confusion. Unfortunately, the casting isn't powerful enough to affect these opponents.

Rill casts an Extended Bless, then grabs Terser and Dimension Hops to the other side of the demon.

Jozhur fires some shots, only one of which hits. The demons do seem to take Sneak Attack damage, but they also clearly have some kind of damage resistance. Jozhur and his shadow drain some strength from the demon.

Bralin keeps going with his axe. Two of his four attacks hit, and although the blows are mighty, they don't do their full damage.

Zeoll tries again with the Suggestion, but this time the spell is not powerful enough to affect its target.

Aexana calls out indignantly that the demon is being rude! In your head, you "hear" a reply, You cannot prevail, little one. There are many who serve the Sarr, and the Sarr will reclaim its own!

Undaunted, Aex fires two lightning bolts and two sun bolts at the demon! Only one of each is powerful enough to affect its target, but they do damage. [The spell description for Sunbeam says a save is allowed that can negate the blindness. Is Aex's sunbeam different? Or does she have a feat or something?]

The Treant's Haste is gone. [Slow is a Transmutation, not mind-affecting and in this case all it does is dispel the Haste.] It hits once, and does a bit of damage. Leafy hits twice, and does a bit more.

The demons go. The light-red one has had its strength drained, and it may also be blind, so it begins chanting...something. You're not sure what, or why.

The dark-red demon takes a 5-foot step. [Yep, bad guys can do it and you guys can't. Bwa-ha-ha-ha!] He lashes out with teeth and claws, at Bralin and at Terser's elephant. Bralin gets bitten and swiped by a claw! He takes 16 damage from the bite, and must make a DC 29 Fort save or be infected with Sargrass Sickness. He takes 17 damage from the claw. The elephant takes a critical hit from the claw! [Sorry.] It takes 40 damage.

First Aex launches two more lightning bolt and two more sunbeams at the Demons... (last 2 beams, 7 more lighting bolts available)

Round 5

Having been in combat with these things for a bit, you're starting to get an idea of their defenses. You've seen a blow aimed at AC 30 miss, while AC 31 hit, so you're pretty sure you know their AC. SR is more difficult; you've seen a 24 fail and a 27 succeed. So SR is somewhere between 25 and 27. They seem to have damage resistance as well, and so far nothing you've hit them with has overcome it.

Terser unloads on the dark-red demon. Between he and his elephant, they do a lot of damage. [I assume this was last round? The elephant took 40 points of damage at some point; is it still standing?]

Tahni's treant circles around, which would provoke from the light-colored demon, but it has actually been blinded, so it doesn't. The treant's attack misses, but Tahni's Magic Missiles hit as usual.

Bralin swings 4 times at the demon, and hits twice. The dark-red demon is now looking pretty hurt.

Zeoll tries his spell again, but just can't cast it powerfully enough.

Aexana keeps going with the bolts and beams, and hits each demon once. The dark-red one is now blinded as well. She scoots over to heal Bralin while her treants attack. Leafy is unsuccessful, but the Staff Treant hits twice.

The light-red demon has taken 32 damage this round, so it loses its spell. But the thing is, I screwed up. It isn't a spell; it's a spell-like ability. I assumed that it would take the same action as casting a similar spell, but I was wrong about that; spell-like abilities are a standard action unless they specifically say otherwise and this one didn't. So, there shouldn't have been a spell to disrupt, is what I'm saying. So I'm going to let him try again.

He succeeds in summoning another demon. This one looks sort of like a nightmare bird! Knowledge Planes DC 19 Highlight to display spoiler: {It's a Vrock}. The bird-demon lets out a screech! All non-demons within 30 feet need to make a DC 21 Fort save or be stunned for 1 round. [By my calculations, that's Hyward, Bralin, Terser, and Rill.]

The dark-red demon is also going to give it a try! He is less successful than his companion, however, and no demons answer his call.

The dark-red demon is pretty badly hurt; the light-red demon is less hurt, but is blinded and weakened, so it's an open question how much of a threat it really is.

Zeoll sets aside his shield and casts Glitterdust (see map) ... to get two enemies and no friends.

There is no Spell Resistance, and the will save DC is 19.

A cloud of golden particles covers everyone and everything in the area, causing creatures to become blinded and visibly outlining invisible things for the duration of the spell. All within the area are covered by the dust, which cannot be removed and continues to sparkle until it fades. Each round at the end of their turn blinded creatures may attempt new saving throws to end the blindness effect.

Since Aex moved to heal Bralin last turn she's also caught in the screech from the bird-demon... again Aex is oblivious to what it is... neither does she know if her spells do damage or not... she seems to have a mind focussed on living plants and such... demons is not her forte... the screech itself though does not scare Aex-air (Fort save 32 - success)

Aex looks at the battlefield. Seeing new additions to the demonic side of the game is never a good sign.
Some wind power could be handy to knock that thing from the sky...

The greenmage summons the power of wind... Jozhur's Shadow, Terser and Rillet can feel the wind power surging just 5ft away from where they stand now... it blows straight towards the East. Just a very local Hurricane (75+Mph). Wind strong enough to destroy wooden buildings, uproot large trees... surely plenty to knock a large flying thing from the sky no?!?

Control Winds (CL17) - no spell resistance - FORT DC24 to negate.
Hurricane +75 mph : ranged attacks are impossible, large creatures can not move forward without DC10 STR check on the ground or without a DC20 fly skill check.

Rill is unaffected by this new arrival's scream. His Knowledge Planes check is 23, but I'm not sure if that tells me more than this creature's name. But he sure knows it's a demon.

"Oooo, more bad stuff." He looks over his companions with a keen eye to assess who's hurt. There are injuries, but it's not too bad yet. He moves forward a bit and conjures a simple Guidance spell. He touches Terser, granting him a +1 competence bonus on his next attack or save.

Mr Treetrunks took 40 damage, but is still only half dead, so he keeps up the assault. it smacks it with its tusks (ac33) for 19 damage.

Terser shifts up a square (can't manipulate the map on my phone) and continues to killify the lower demon, until it's dead, at which point he shifts to the upper.

Round 6

Around you, the battle rages. To your left, the Iron Dragons appear to have coped with the dragons they were fighting, but they're still fighting--something you can't really see from here. To your right, the matching outfits have finished off their rhinos and are now facing dragons of their own! Oh wait, no. Those are hydras. Hydrae? Anyway, it's headilicious over there.

In your corner of the battlefield, Zeoll casts Glitterdust, which bursts over the light-red demon and the vrock. The light-red demon is already blinded, and now the vrock is, too.

Jozhur attacks with his sword--and does full damage. Whatever he's got is overcoming the creatures' damage resistance. Perhaps he'll share his secret some day. He and his shadow drain some more strength.

Tahni targets the vrock with a Suffocation. The casting is strong enough to overcome its resistance, and the creature fails its save and begins to suffocate.

Bralin finishes off the dark-red demon, with a little assist from the elephant.

Terser therefore turns his attention to the light-red one, and now it is looking very hurt.

Aexana conjures up a hurricane, which sends the blind, suffocating vrock tumbling to the ground!

Rill uses an orison to help Terser.

The light-red demon lashes out blindly at Jozhur, Terser, and Bralin. It manages to hit Bralin's armor, but that's the best it can do.

The vrock rights itself, and struggles to move against the hurricane. It manages to walk forward, but that's all it can do this round.

But the next wave is already arriving. Three spectral forms streak toward you through the air. They have red hands that twitch and jerk oddly, almost as if they're trying to control something you can't see. Knowledge Religion DC 25 Highlight to display spoiler: {They are Dybbuks}.

They reach a point about 140 feet away from the party and pause. Their hands twitch. Zeoll, Tahni, and Aexana each need to make a DC 22 Will save or be feebleminded

Tahni is a little happy that her suffocation spell is working. It's never fun to see something struggle for breath though so looks away. It's fortunate she does as she can now see some new threats approaching.

She feels the spell poke in her brain, and as an arcane caster feels it even more strongly than most! She resists it's effects however.

Hvward flails about with his sickle doing nothing helpful (Hit AC18, 26 and 14. All miss)

Tahni waits for the demon to die, and then moves in to cast Ghost Weapon on Jozhur's blade.

Glad at least one demon is gone, Aex is worried about the next ones that are homing in on the Black Lions... Seeing her friends are about to engage within the hurricane area, Aexana dismisses the winds.

Round 7

Behind the spectral figures still arriving, you can see your next opponent. It is still a ways off, and won't be here for several rounds. It is quite large, and--another demon, perhaps? It seems to have horns of some kind, and it is literally walking on the air, its enormous strides bringing it ever closer.

But it's a problem for the future. In the here-and-now, you've got three probably-undeads, plus the remains of the demons.

Jozhur's sword flashes, and you have one less demon to worry about.

Tahni casts Ghost Touch on Jozhur's weapon.

Bralin runs over and clobbers the vrock.

Aexana mutters complaints about her opponents, perhaps not realizing that some people think fighting demons is pretty cool. And sometimes the universe saves the best for last. She dismisses her hurricane, and hands a potion to Jozhur. [Also, it wasn't so much that the lightning didn't hurt the demons, but they had spell resistance so only some bolts got through, and they had a lot of hit points.]

Zeoll does need to spend that Hero Point to avoid the Feeblemind, but it's a point well spent! He casts See Invisible, but sees nothing he didn't see before. He readies his shield.

Terser and his elephant keep after the vrock, which is looking hurt. And suffocating.

Rill turns his attention to the new arrivals, targeting them with a Holy Smite. All three make their Will saves, so none of them is blinded.

The vrock falls to the ground and begins dying of suffocation. You can keep thwacking it if you want, but it's basically a goner.

The three flying specters advance. Tahni, Terser, and Bralin must succeed at DC 26 Will saves or be Dominated.

Spellcraft to ID the domination: 34.

Zeoll sees what is going on and moves 30 ft forward, using his Woodland Stride to reach his friends in a move action. NOW he is adjacent to Terser and Bralin. If either of them is dominated, they may now make a second save with a +2 morale bonus. If Zeoll's magic circle saves them, then they HAVE to stay close, within its sheltering aura.

Zeoll thinks about healing, but neither dwarf has been much wounded. So he casts his Elf Vision spell and tries to figure out exactly what the party is facing, maybe recalling some weakness to exploit or power to fear.

Terser's eyes begin to glaze over, but Zeoll steps up just in time and he's able to shake off the effects. is the re-save my action? or do I still get to do stuff?

Mr. Treetrunks has just enough range at half speed to get up to the suffocating vrock and try to stomp on it once. AC31 for 22 damage

Knowing that he has to stay close to Zeoll, he just moves slightly and hurls his new hammer at one of the creepy floating spirit dudes. 5 foot step takes range to blue to just within 2nd increment

It smacks the creature full in the face (i think) and returns to his hand in a twinkling. AC 35 for 27 damage

Hastened Hyvward charges forward without care and is likely as usseful as he has been to date. Still, he may make a good shield.

Tahni feels the tug on her mind and it takes a heroic effort to push the feeling away.

Rill uses Sense Motive 38 to make sure he understands the effect on Terser. Understanding the effect he's under and the limitations of Zeoll's protection, Rill steps in and casts Protection from Evil on the dwarf.

"Quick thinking there Zeoll - you probably saved us a whole heap of hurt. I'll see if I can allow him to move outside your protective circle."

(Not quite sure of the interplay between the protective spells on Terser, but Rill is just trying to make him able to move forward if he wants.)

Round 8

The battle continues to rage, with no signs of letting up. To your left, massive snakes have burst out of the ground to challenge the Iron Dragons! To your right, the hydras are breathing both ice and fire all over the matching outfits, who in turn are dispatching them as quickly as they can.

In your corner of the battlefield, Zeoll realized immediately what the spectral figures were trying to do, and moved up to bring his Magic Circle Against Evil to help Bralin and Terser. He is able to figure out that these creatures are dybbuks, and that they are incorporeal undead.

Bralin, as it turns out, did not need Zeoll's help, and is able to shake off the effect on his own. He pulls out a wand and attempts to use it. He is able to overcome the creature's resistance, and hits it with a searing light from the wand!

Terser does need Zeoll's help, so he sticks close to the Liontaur and instead hurls his Dwarven Thrower at one of the dybbuks. It connects, and does damage--though not full damage, as the creature is incorporeal. Meanwhile, the elephant stomps what's left of the vrock into the ground.

Rill steps up with a Protection from Evil spell, so now Terser doesn't have to live in Zeoll's hip pocket.

Jozhur moves forward cautiously, trying to stay hidden. You think you can hide in plain sight here, but the dybbuks seem like they're good at noticing things, and you did roll a 1.

Tahni gives Terser's glaive the ability to do full damage against these creatures.

Aexana lets fly with three lightning bolts. She powers through the creatures' Spell Resistance, but all three creatures make their saves. They do seem to take electrical damage, though.

The yellow dybbuk reaches out to touch Hyvward, Tahni's tree friend. The creature hits a Touch AC 33, which I'm going to assume hits. Hyvward takes 28 damage.

The pink dybbuk flies right up to Jozhur! It tries to possess him! Jozhur must succeed at a DC 25 Will save or have his soul forced out of his body, similar to a magic jar spell (except without the jar).

The blue dybbuk flies right up to Terser and....tries to do something. You don't know what, because it is thwarted by the Magic Circle. It hisses in annoyance.

Terser thanks Tahni for the ghost touch, and just in time. The crazy critters come swooping into AoO territory!

He rages on and strikes out unexpectedly unexpected strike once it gets in range. AC30 for 23 damage
Then before it tries it's voodoo, he lashes out again! quick reflexes! AC 28 for 21 damage

Then using his extra agility, he steps back 5 feet nimble moves and unloads a full barrage on the creature!

Jozhur feels something tugging at his soul. It is a familiar, and very uncomfortable feeling. Fending off the attack, he shakes his head and strikes back with his sword as his shadow comes to flank his opponent.

Round 9

As you battle the dybbuks, your next opponent is approaching closer. It is a very large humanoid, and it definitely has horns. It is night-black from head to toe, seemingly woven from darkness itself. It is about 400 feet away, and appears to be walking--or rather, running--on air.

Rill casts a Protection from Evil on Bralin, who swaps his wand for his battle-ax, ready to re-enter the fray.

Zeoll begins summoning a Fey Friend.

Leafy and the Staff Treant attack, but since their attacks are not magic [right?], they cannot harm the incorporeal undead. Meanwhile, Aexana conjures up some Ball Lightning! All of the lightning balls hit, but only one does full damage. These ghosties are nimble!

Terser puts the smack on the blue one! One hundred fifty-five points of damage later, the creature dissipates! Meanwhile, Mr. Treetrunks tries to trample the pink one, but his attacks are not magical, so he is unable to harm the incorporeal creature.

Jozhur shrugs off the attempted possession and strikes back with his sword. He only hits once, but he does full damage.

The yellow dybbuk again attacks Hyvward, hitting for 31 damage.

The pink dybbuk attacks Jozhur. Its touch causes Jozhur to be wracked with pain! He takes 30 damage!

Zeoll uses a Restoration spell to spontaneously cast a Summon Fey Friend 4 spell. That's a d8 roll to see what answers the call ... the roll is a 6 ... that's a Nymph. Zeoll places her 45 ft from himself towards the center of the circle.

Zeoll calls his thanks the fey creature for her help and asks her to move as fast as she can towards the oncoming horned humanoid. He asks her to use her blinding aura and stunning glance and spells against the enemy, but try to stay alive too.

Her action this round is to RUN or else DOUBLE MOVE toward the horned foe. She only turns on her blinding aura (a free action) when she is 30 ft plus beyond any of Zeoll's pals. The blinding aura has a range of 30 ft and a fort save DC21 vs permanent blindness.

How high up is the horned dude air-running?

Round 10

The battle continues to rage. To your left, the Iron Dragons are mopping up the giant snakes. To your right, the matching outfits have dispatched the hydras and are now fighting--aww, look. It's a bandersnatch! It brings back memories of that Arena fight in Dirt City. Good times.

In the here and now, Bralin spends the round moving into position.

Tahni moves forward to heal Jozhur, who keeps after the dybbuk with his ghost touch weapon.

Terser attacks that same dybbuk. It's hard to tell from looking at it, but surely there's not much life--or rather, unlife--left in this one.

Rill casts Fly on himself and moves forward.

Zeoll summons a Nymph and asks her to move forward. Unfortunately, the area is still difficult terrain, and I don't see Woodland Stride listed for her. So she double-moves, but doesn't get very far. Zeoll, meanwhile, tries to figure out what the newcomer is. You're pretty sure it isn't an Outsider (so much for the demon theory), but you're not sure what it is. It's elevation is about 20 feet at the moment, but it's been gradually descending.

The pink dybbuk shifts to one side and attacks Jozhur again. It scores a critical hit! Jozhur takes 42 points of damage, and is again wracked with pain.

The yellow dybbuk attempts to possess Mr. Treetrunks. Terser needs to roll a Will save for him, DC 25, or Mr. Treetrunks will become possessed!

The air-walking figure hasn't quite arrived yet, but it is in spellcasting range, so it casts a spell. Jozhur's shadow is immune, as is the dybbuk, but Jozhur, Tahni, Bralin, and Terser need to succeed at a DC 19 Will save or suffer from confusion. This thing is definitely evil, so the resistance bonus from Protection from Evil will apply.

For DM Kathy, Please Highlight to display spoiler: {[OOC: Kathy, thanks for the nymph icon. But you placed her 45 ft from Zeoll, which is where she was summoned. Then, after 2 move actions of 15 ft each, she should be another 30 ft along. That puts her RIGHT at the edge of the map. Zeoll warns his friends not to get within 30 ft of the nymph when she is using her aura. "Betterr safe than sorrry!"

The nymph takes another double move and activates her blindness aura (free action). The blinding aura has a range of 30 ft and a fort save DC21 vs permanent blindness.

Zeoll finishes his second and last SFF4 spell. This time he summons a ... die roll 8! player's choice! Woo Hoo!

A Huge Earth Elemental appears right next to Zeoll.

Zeoll uses a move action to doff his shield. Then he casts a Mage Armor spell on the Elemental, as a standard action. He asks the elemental in Terran to stay within the magic circle. (As a free action, Zeoll has a waking nightmare of the elemental being possessed.) In fact, how about it stays directly underneath Zeoll, earth gliding. He'll send it into combat soon enough.

BTW, I'm assuming a caster can summon his own creature so that it arrives within a magic circle. I hope that's right. Good topic for the Rules Board.

Between his anger and a nat 20, Mr Treetrunks gives a resounding trumpet of No Thanks to being possessed. However, his feet are still not magical, so he just spins in place for now, looking for something he can smash.

Terser remembers this feeling. In fact, it's almost like he took a totem from an earlier battle just to make it a little harder for something to confuse him again. He shrugs off that spell with no problem at all.

He nimbly steps to the north a bit and attacks Pinky, shifting attacks to yellow if Pinky bites the dust.

Rill contemplates channeling energy, but Jozhur's Shadow is there. He's still never been comfortable having that undead thing around - even if it does seem to be under control for now.

Round 11

The battle continues. To your left, the Iron Dragons are fighting a moving castle. As you do. To your right, the matching outfits are having some trouble with their bandersnatch, proving they're not as awesome as you guys.

Terser's elephant resists being possessed! Terser himself goes after the pink dybbuk. He swings four times and hits three times. Then he takes a moment to heal his companions.

Aexana flings some lightning bolts, which finish off the pink dybbuk!

Jozhur circles around to where he can attack the yellow dybbuk next time.

Bralin stands where he is and mutters something. Dwarven philosophy maybe?

Rill casts Air Walk on Terser.

Meanwhile the striding black figure continues to advance. Zeoll's nymph friend turns on her aura, and the creature is blinded! Zeoll has conjured up an Earth Elemental, which he now protects with a Mage Armor.

Tahni fireballs the dark newcomer! It manages to dodge some of the damage.

The now-blinded dark strider Air Walks past the nymph then creates a darkness all around itself. Knowledge Arcana DC 23 Highlight to display spoiler: {Deeper Darkness}. The darkness is absolute; even Darkvision cannot penetrate it.

However, in the moment before it disappeared into darkness, you were able to get a good look at the creature. Knowledge Religion DC 26 Highlight to display spoiler: {It is a Nightwalker, a kind of Nightshade, and undead.}

Aexana watches the dark figure (again she remains oblivious to what it is or what exactly he's casting)...
As she notices him (her?) turning the lights out around him she intends to counter the effect with her own daylight spell...

The Staff Treant makes a double move closer towards this new demon thing. (he has base speed 40 but i'm assuming a double move with this grass also equals 40ft total?)
As he passes Aexana, she casts Dayling (lvl 3 spell should negate darkness lvl 3 spells) on the Treant... now, hoping that if the Treant comes in range of this demon's darkness both spells should negate one another?? With a RADIUS of 60ft the Daylight spell on Leafy should cover practically the whole map. (@ DM Kathy, shouldn't your darkness already engulf us too? It also has a 60ft radius.)

In the back of her mind all Tahni can do is wonder what she did to tick off Wardd. He certainly isn't helping her in this fight.

That means the old taur is unhappy. His enchantments and charms remain useless against undead. Well, there are always more fey friends to summon.

Speaking of whom, the dryad moves closer to the Nightwalker, turning off her blinding aura. She casts her Call Lightning spell. If she can see the Nightwalker, she targets it with a bolt.

Zeoll calls his huge elemental friend up, fearing that he may need the thing's protection. (placed on map)

Rill hopes that Aexana is able to push the darkness back. He also hopes that Jozhur moves that shadow of his out of the way before it Rill burns it along with the rest of the undead here. Rill uses will delay until the end of our actions to channel energy, hoping Jozhur moves it out of the way. In any case he will move up 5' (using Agile Feet) and release a burning positive energy burst for 29 points of damage (half damage to the incorporeal undead, DC 24 Will save for half, roll to overcome Spell Resistance is 20.)

Terser works on finishing off the last Dybbuk with Jozhur before turning to the new threat, assuming he can see it.

He continues his pattern of 3 of four strikes hitting, which is just fine in his mind.

Jozhur sees the new enemy approaching fast...then it goes dark. But something isn't right, even he can't see through the darkness. He warns the others as he attacks the last Dybbuk, "I can't see through that dark, there is something strange about it."

He also has his shadow move under the ground when he notices Rill is about to start channeling.

Round 12

Aexana casts Daylight on the Staff Treant and sends it up close to the Nightwalker. The Daylight and the Deeper Darkness cancel each other out. [OOC: Yes, it was supposed to be 60 feet. I meant to expand the circle after I drew it. D'oh!]

Once the nightwalker is in view, Tahni tries to cast Magic Missile, but the creature has Spell Resistance. Make a caster level check, please.

Zeoll's nymph [it is a nymph, right? not a dryad?] tries to cast Call Lightning, but needs to make a caster level check to overcome the spell resistance.

Rill channels energy, which I think will affect both undead. Also, channeling energy is not a spell; I don't think you need a caster level check. Anyway, I'm going ahead with it! The dybbuk makes its save; the nightwalker does not. Both take damage.

Terser goes after the yellow dybbuk. It does have some damage resistance, but it hardly seems to matter. Terser does a lot of damage. Mr. Treetrunks attempts to attack the nightwalker, but it is still about 20 feet up, so the elephant is unable to reach it.

Bralin attacks Leafy! Has the dwarf gone insane?

Jozhur sends his shadow safely underground so Rill can do his thing. Then he attacks the yellow dybbuk. He only hits once, but does full damage.

The dybbuk shifts forward and tries to possess Terser, but fails due to the Protection from Evil!

The nightwalker can't see, and isn't sure where its opponents are, but it guesses. It guesses pretty well, dropping an Unholy Blight where it will affect Tahni, Bralin, Leafy, and Aexana. All of the good-aligned creatures in that bunch take 30 points of damage and are sickened for 3 rounds. A DC 19 Will save cuts the damage in half and negates the sickened condition. Neutral creatures (which I assume includes Leafy) take 15 damage, DC 19 Will save for half, and are not subject to the sickened condition whether they save or not.

Aexana has her eyes on the demon thing before her and is pleased to see the Darkness was countered by the Daylight spell on the treant... she's just about to check if this think likes lightning bolts as a sudden pain rips through her... LEAFY!!

The greenmage turns around in terror... she sees Bralin's Waraxe cutting down on Leafy!!... splinters of wood fly... her companions branches are broken and ripped from his body... his eyes grow large in terror and confusion as this Dwarf has his Axe buried deep in side...

Leafy takes 74HP and crumbles to the ground... dead...
She cast Stoneskin on the Treant... not Leafy...

"NOOOOOOO...", Aexana shouts in agony, "YOU ... ", tears well in Aex's eyes but she tries to stick to her senses... Tahni stands close to the confused Dwarf ans she'll be next if Bralin's not stopped... for a moment Aex intends to send 4 lightning bolts up the Dwarf's behind but she refrains from hurting him.

Instead she tries to contain him untill he's back to his senses...

"THANI BACK UP !!!", Aex shouts. She casts a Wall of Stone (CL11) around Bralin and does not want to trap Thani inside the wall with the nutty dwarf... Aex can have 11 x 5ft squares so she uses the excess available squares to thicken the wall. Possibly Bralin gets a Reflex save DC23 to avoid getting trapped inside the stone wall cage Aexana builds for him.

Will Save vs Unholy Blight 41 - nat 20 - still she take 15 damage.
Leafy, the poor thing, no longer needs to worry about the Nightwalker's spells... Bralin already too care of that work for the demon...

The Staff Treant also feels the pain Aexana is in but he must continue to fight and mourn his leafed friend later...

Terser thought it was Bralin that was confused, but it seems Jozhur was confused about who was confused. Terser is no plant hater, and he bets Bralin normally isn't either. But he's not got the luxury of time to mourn Leafy now, so he holds it in for later.

Mr. Treetrunks thinks he should be able to hit the flying corpseman, being 15 feet tall and all, but instead his trunk just tickles his feet. Distraction attack?

Terser steps back to shadow space, since he sank into the ground, though he wonders why Rill doesn't just keep his channel from affecting it. It must be easy if Terser can do it. He keeps up the attack with the ghost touch glaive, not noticing or caring that not all the damage gets through. He'll just have to hit it harder.

Round 13

Last round, Tahni was not able to cast her Magic Missiles, because the Nightwalker's natural spell resistance was too great. This round, she notices that something is seriously off about Bralin, and hits him with a Heal spell.

Bralin is no longer confused, but is perhaps a bit bewildered, because he takes no actions for the moment. He still needs to save against the Unholy Blight.

Aexana, shocked and traumatized by Leafy's unexpected death, takes no actions either.

Neither Zeoll nor his nymph do anything, either. The nymph still needs to make a caster level check.

Jozhur attacks the dybbuk, hitting twice.

Terser also attacks the dybbuk, and also hits twice. It is hurt, but still active.

Rill attempts to banish the Nightwalker to another plane. However, it makes its save and doesn't go anywhere.

The dybbuk shifts, and reaches out a spectral hand for Jozhur! It hits! Jozhur is wracked with pain and takes 29 damage!

The Nightwalker seems to understand what Rill was trying to do, or maybe he just doesn't like being touched. At any rate, he drops an Unholy Blight right on top of the cleric! The burst catches Mr. Treetrunks, too! Rill takes 25 damage and is sickened for 1 round; a DC 19 Will save cuts the damage in half and negates the sickened effect. Mr. Treetrunks, being neutral, only takes 12 damage, DC 19 Will save for half (and no sickened in any event).

The one bright spot in the last few rounds has been that you didn't see any more opponents heading toward you. But it looks as if your luck has run out in that regard. In the center of the circle, the Bloodweed creature cries out, YOU WILL NOT HURT MY LAND! I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED SO EASILY! Again it flings its tendrils outward, and again creatures begin racing toward you. It was hard to tell this the first time, but this time it's more obvious--the Bloodweed thing shrank when it sent all those creatures. Defeat enough of them, and you might be able to beat this thing.

Of course, that means you need to get on with the defeating part.

Old Business: Nymph caster level check for Call Lightning (CL7 ... a 16, surely not enough.)

Zeoll finishes casting his SFF3, and summons a (d10) woolly rhinoceros! Zeoll places it 25 ft from the NightThing.

This round:

Woolly Rhino charges! With +2 to hit, it hits AC33. Since the monster is blind, do we get +2 to hit it? It canot take AoOs, right?

Does it lose its Dex bonus to AC? If so, then all rogue attacks (within 30 ft) vs a blinded foe are sneak attacks, right?

Do natural attacks even affect this monster?

If the hit on AC33 (or better?) lands, the woolly rhino hits for special charge damage of 39.

The earth elemental runs to get closer to the melee. He has to go in a straight line for a run, so he ends move a bit south of the monster.

The nymph gives up on the lightning and moves to the elemental, casting barkskin on it to give it a +3 boost.

Zeoll hustles next to the elemental (double move)as he readies his shield (free action combined with a move). His magic circle protects the elemental, the rhino, and the plant thing next to him.

Mr. Treetrunks shrugs off the spell, but still can't reach the hovering nightwalker. He stands around drawing fire until a suitable foe appears.

Terser yells out for some assistance - Any chance of getting a magic boost for the elephant? He can't touch that ghost and he's too short to reach the Nightwalker!

Terser meanwhile continues chipping away at the ghost, not leaving Jozhur to face it alone. He positions himself so Jozhur can easily move to flank and strikes away, though not so successfully this time.

The fog lifts, and Bralin stops. For several long moments he ignores the battle, instead regarding the lifeless form of the plant companion before him.

After several long moments, the dwarf turns to face the nightwalker.
Guilt and rage ripple across his features.

Still 15' in the air, he has a clear path to the foe, and with a roar, Bralin bears down on it, ending his charge with a mighty blow.

Round 14

The battle continues to rage. To your left, the Iron Dragons are still fighting that animated castle. To your right, the matching outfits have driven off their bandersnatch, and seem uncertain whether to chase after it or stay where they are.

In your battle, Tahni begins a summoning spell.

Rill tries again with the banishing. Again, the Nightwalker makes its save.

Zeoll's nymph was indeed unsuccessful with her lightning, so this round she casts Barkskin on the earth elemental, who had hurried up to join her. Meanwhile, Zeoll summoned a wooly mammoth. The mammoth moves forward, eager to engage with the Nightwalker--the trouble being that the Nightwalker still has an active Air Walk and is still 20 feet above the ground. The mammoth can join Mr. Treetrunks in the frustrated stampy animal club. Zeoll hurries forward to keep his summoned friends inside his protective circle.

Aexana's staff treant attacks the Nightwalker. Its first attack misses; its second attack hits but does no damage. Meanwhile Aexana sends lightning bolts toward the Nightwalker. [You'll need to make caster level checks for them.]

Terser attacks the dybbuk, and does more damage. He's counting on his strike partner to finish the job, but alas, Jozhur seems disoriented and takes no actions.

Bralin charges the Nightwalker. He hits and does damage, but this thing seems to have significant damage reduction.

The dybbuk shifts and attacks Jozhur again! It misses with a natural 1!

The nightwalker again attempts to drop an Unholy Blight on the party, but this time the blind creature can't locate a target. The effect goes off harmlessly over where Zeoll and his menagerie used to be.

Tahni knows full well the power of her summoning spells. She isn't going to call on just one being to come to their aid but several. Why call on the power of one when you can call on the power of many? Alas... only one hound archon answered her call. (d3=1)

Oh well, one is better than none. She bids it to run up behind Bralin and give him some aid.

Believing she can do better Tahni starts up another summoning spell.

The nymph uses her Stunning Glance (Su) As a standard action, a nymph can stun a creature within 30 feet with a look. The target must succeed on a DC 21 Fortitude save or be stunned for 2d4 rounds. The save DC is Charisma-based. If a check vs SR is needed, she rolls a 13.

The huge elemental moves 20 ft closer to the enemy. It is huge, so it is 15 ft tall and has a reach of 10 ft. Can it just reach up to grab the blind enemy? It tries.

The huge earth elemental (with a -4 to hit the airborne enemy) tries to grapple it! He rolls a 29 against its CMD. He provokes an AoO doing this, but I do not think blinded foes can take AoOs.

Round 15

You know there are more foes on their way, and looking up, you can see two of them. They look like dragons. They are about 500 feet away, but they are flying very fast. They will probably be here next round.

Between them, Jozhur and Terser take care of the final dybbuk.

Tahni summons a Hound Archon, which she sends to help Bralin. She begins another summoning spell.

Bralin, for his part, keeps after the nightwalker. He hits it three times, and does damage. This thing does not seem to take cold damage, however.

Zeoll's Earth Elemental tries to grapple the nightwalker! It can reach the creature from the ground, and the nightwalker, being blind, does not get an attack of opportunity. Even blind, however, it is still strong enough and nimble enough to avoid being grappled. The nymph tries a gaze attack? On a blind creature? That's going to fail unless I'm missing something. Zeoll himself gets out a tangleburn bag and casts True Strike.

Aexana sends her ball lightning, and one of them does damage!

Rill gives up his attempts to banish the nightwalker, and instead heals the party.

The nightwalker lashes out at Bralin! It knows where the dwarf is because of the attacks, although it still has a 50% miss chance due to blindness. Its bite hits! Bralin takes 20 damage, and must succeed at a DC 36 Fortitude save or be infected with Sargrass Sickness.

With a range of 240' and area of 20' high by of 280' long, he should be able to catch both of them with the spell as they approach. With the Dybbuk dead, Jozhur looks around for more targets. The nightwalker is in the air and appears to be out of reach. With the dragons a ways off and also flying, Jozhur sheathes his sword and resorts to his bow. He takes careful aim and launches his first arrow.

Zeoll moves 40 ft and readies a Calm Emotions when an oncoming enemy is in range. Will DC23 and Spell penetration check 27. (lost the roll maybe, but that's what it was.) If the Peaceball is triggered and works, Zeoll calls out to his friends so they know which dragon NOT to attack!

Wooly rhino moves to flank the enemy if it gets dragged down. If its readied attack is triggered, it hits AC23 for 18 damage.

Huge Earth Elemental tries again to reach up and grapple. It succeeds vs CMD32.

Round 16

Their dybbuk foe defeated at last, Terser and Jozhur turn their attention to the nightwalker. They discover what Bralin already knows: this thing has a lot of damage reduction.

For his part, Bralin isn't feeling so good. His leg itches where the nightwalker bit him, and he doesn't feel he's operating at his best. [Bralin is sickened.] Nevertheless, he keeps after his foe. He only hits once, but he does some more damage.

Aexana seems to have found the hang of her Ball Lightning. She powers through the nightwalker's resistance. It saves against two of the bolts, but that is not enough. The creature falls to the ground, dead. Or, re-dead.

Aexana is also concerned with the arriving foes, and summons up a hurricane to try to slow them down. Rill likewise tries to slow them by throwing a Blade Barrier in their path.

Now that the creatures are closer, you can see that they are not dragons in the traditional sense, although they have a strong resemblance. But these creatures are clearly plants. Or, made of plant matter, or something. It's weird. Knowledge Nature DC 26 Highlight to display spoiler: {They are zomoks}

They are Gargantuan in size, so they are not affected by Aexana's hurricane.

Rill's Blade Barrier appears in their path. They are not great flyers, so they are unable to maneuver over or under it. They go through it, but manage to dodge some of the damage. They do not seem to have spell resistance.

Once they arrive, Zeoll casts his Peaceball on one of them. It does not seem to have spell resistance, and it fails its save! Zeoll warns his companions not to attack the green dragon-thingie.

The nymph uses her stunning gaze on the other dragon-thingie, but it easily makes its save.

The blue one then unleashes its breath weapon, which is a sight to behold. A 60-foot cone of dust, soil, dirt clods, twigs, and small rocks comes out of its mouth. Tahni, Jozhur, his shadow, Rill, and Aexana are not in the area of effect; everyone else takes 69 damage, DC 28 reflex save for half.

"Now that I read about!", Aexana says almost cheerfully... for the first time this battle she actually read something about what they are fighting, "and these things don't like fire!..."

From what appears to be a rather safe distance Aex evokes a Flame Strike (CL11) upon the blue Zomok...

Next she moves the lightning balls towards the new enemies...

The Staff Treant gets covered in the dirt the Zomok belches out... (Ref Save 18 - fail)... and he takes full damage. At least without some reductions here and there (-10 DR10/Slashing and -10 Stoneskin)

Bralin stops to catch his breath as the Nightwalker goes down. The itch on his legs, and the heaviness of his arms feels unnatural.

After a few deep cleansing breaths, the dwarf looks up to evaluate these Zomocks...and catches a blast of rock, dirt, and branches square in the face.

Rill's healing spell helps a bit, but Bralin knows he just endured a fearsome blow.

There is but one response, and Bralin closes to melee range.

The battle continues to rage. To your left, the castle that the Iron Dragons were fighting has turned itself into some kind of airship, piloted by liches. As so many castles do. To your right, the matching outfits have lost their bandersnatch altogether in the tall grass. Somebody lobs a Fireball in its general direction.

In your corner of the battlefield, a steady, rhythmic pounding would seem to indicate that more foes are on their way.

Tahni flies close to the action, glad to be able to use her fire spells at last! And the results are even better than she could have hoped for! All her rays hit, and do even more damage than she thought they would. It seems these creatures are especially vulnerable to fire.

Rill provides the party with some much-needed healing.

Aexana knows these creatures are vulnerable to fire, so she hits the blue one with a Flame Strike! The creature fails its save, and takes a whole lot of fire damage! The staff treant recovers from being hit with dirt and rocks. [Originally, the green one had cast Entangle, and I didn't include the Entangle effect from the blue one's breath weapon because it felt like piling on. Then I had to go back and have the green one not act because Zeoll had successfully Peaceballed it, but I didn't fix the breath weapon thing. But it's all good.]

Zeoll's nymph moves away, but since she is on the ground and the blue zomok is still in the air, she doesn't provoke. She tries her stunning gaze again, and is again unsuccessful.

Jozhur sends his shadow forward and shoots the zomok, doing some damage.

Bralin attempts to shake off his illness, and moves forward to confront the blue zomok. However, the zomok is still flying, and Bralin is on the ground [right?], so he can't quite get to melee range yet.

The zomoks have been flying up to this point, but now that their forward momentum has slowed, they have to land; their flying skill is not that great.

The blue zomok casts an Entangle, which is going to affect everybody who isn't flying. Everyone needs to make a DC 19 Reflex save or become entangled.

Round 18

Tahni hits the zomok with more Scorching Rays.

Terser enlarges himself and attacks the zomok!

Zeoll's nymph heals him, and the rest of his menagerie prepare for the next attack.

Between Bralin's axe and Aexana's ball lightning, the blue zomok falls. Jozhur's attack is not needed.

Rill heals his friends.

The other zomok is still there. It has landed, so it is on the ground. It is currently peaceful--but it's possible that you may need to defeat it in order to defeat the Power that sent it. Will merely pacifying it be enough? It's hard to say.

Meanwhile, the steady thumps are getting closer. Looking in that direction, you can see several big, roughly humanoid shapes heading toward you. They occasionally glint in the sunlight.

Round 19

Zeoll is again healed by his nymph. His other creatures move forward to engage the new threat.

Aexana goes aloft to take a better look at the battlefield. You can see that the Bloodgrass creature in the center has greatly decreased in size. Maybe it's just about done spewing creatures, which would be nice.

Terser, Jozhur, and Bralin wait for their chance to attack.

Rill begins casting a spell.

The approaching creatures are not flying, and they are strong enough to power right through Aexana's winds. As they arrive, you can see that there are six of them, and the seem to be made of metal. No, hang on, not metal. Some kind of grass that seems to have metallic qualities. Weird.

Aexana almost falls from the sky as she realizes what the 6 things that easily plough through the hurricane are... but since no one speaks auran she can't inform her friends about it... frantically waving her hands would probably not do much good either... if only she knew more about what they are made of.

She flies about 60ft above her friends and heads in the general direction of the 6...

The Treant looks around where the first Zomok went down... this thing was made of dirt and rocks... he looks for a nice medium size boulder... picks it up and hurls it towards the Golems...
He throws the rock at the purple golem and hits AC24 - damage 21HP

Having made a single move herself, Aexana directs the 4 Lightning Balls towards the Golems too... they are only active for another 7 rounds...

Not to be out done, Rillett Savenport summons a Mastodon on the far side of the constructs! The huge creature then will trample the blue and the green golems, ending it's move between them and us. It will inflict 27 points of damage. (They can each either take an AOO or attempt a DC 29 Reflex save for half damage.)
