RobC - Tahni Wyrmrider -- AC 20/13/17 -- CMD 19 -- HP 136/136
Tuesday April 3rd, 2018 7:49:36 AM

Tahni looks over the ship as she creates a little more water. If this thing requires water to set sail it is going to take a whole lot of create water spells.

"I don't know about everyone else but I'd rather keep to our 24hr routine. That may mean travel by night and sleep by day, but it would ensure we are well rested"

Terser (Warren) [AC22/13/19 - CMD 30 - HP 169/183, DR 1/-] (25% no crit, rage 24/34, channel 3/5)
Tuesday April 3rd, 2018 2:28:46 PM

I'm almost more used to darkness than I am daylight, so traveling day and night doesn't bother me any. Still, since we don't know the landscape, I wouldn't advise full speed in the darkness, since we can only spot 60 feet ahead or so, unless someone puts up some traveling lights.

Terser doesn't mind using the hammer, since his only attack at range right now is his ring, which is quickly being depleted of charges. But he envisions an epic battle with himself and Bucky (I mean Bralin) flinging the hammer in turns at a highly armored foe.

Rill (MarkB) HP 110/111 - AC 25/15/23 CMD 23
Tuesday April 3rd, 2018 5:18:10 PM

Rill only needs a couple hours of rest. He will pray and rely on his divine connection to let him know when he can regain his spells, and will be pleasantly surprised to find he can prepare one additional spell for the day. In thinking about it, he is also concerned.

"I am able to prepare one additional powerful spell. Either my connection to my God is closer here, or Gargul as decided we're gonna need the extra help. Or both. Regarding this present darkness, I have sufficient light sources to help aboard this ship, but they will not extend very far. At the very least, we can tie one to the front prow of this ship. I agree that we should go slowly during the night, proceeding eastward. We can go to full sail once it's light."

Rill pulls out a number of items with Continual Flame cast on them - a couple of daggers and a few bellaying pins. That will help.

"As for the thing we seek, it is a single drop of water that 'seems to sparkle a little in the dim light.' Maybe it'll be easier to find at night. But we're not going to find it right here. Let's get thing moving."

Rill suggests that we get the mast up and the sail rigged, and see if that's enough. If not, we can use the elephant to pull the thing forward onto the grass.

Aex and Leafy help wherever help is needed. The little greenmage did chip some more wood and carves some life wood boxes of it. Perhaps she'll come across some strange weeds that can help her brew new things. She certainly will try to take a plank of this lifeboat with her. Perhaps she can grab some of this strange grass? And who knows what else grows here. Sure the main goal is the drop of water but one can do some exploration too right?!

"I'm fine with the 24 hours routine... just as we get our lunches in time...

Bralin nods in agreement with Tahni. Keeping the sleep cycle is more necessary than whether it be light or dark.

The dwarf is somewhat at a loss about the extra spell slot, finally settling on Wind Wall. Who knows, mayhap it will help propel this boat.

In the evening (okay, the late afternoon), Zeoll entertains the group with tales of the Fae King, and a bit of music. At his urging, Drini creates a Minor Image of a nymph dancing to the tune. Some of it gets a little naughty.

Overnight, the only thing Zeoll can discern from is dreams is that you're headed in the right direction. More or less.

In the morning--or rather, after you're done resting--Tahni creates some more water and the casters prepare their daily spells. Then you turn your attention to getting your newly-repaired boat up and running.

It's a bit of a challenge. The wood is repelled by the grass, so presumably if you can get it over the grass it should sort of hover there--and then you can rig the sail to make it go. So you pick the thing up, working together, and carry it to where the grass is thicker. And the minute you let it go--Sproing!--the thing goes flying straight up! Luckily it comes down again, and you are able to get everybody aboard. But there are seven of you, and not all of you are lightweights. As each person clambers aboard, the boat sinks a little lower. By the time you're all aboard, it is scraping the tops of the grasses.

You set up the sail, and can make progress. Rill finds he needn't be concerned; even at full sail, the vessel moves pretty slowly. But it does move--and it moves faster than you would on foot down there in the grasses.

Navigating by unfamiliar stars is difficult, but not impossible, and there's enough experience in your group to manage the task. You are on your way.

Tahni spends a few hours during the rest period to do a little more crafting. (2hrs crafting gained for the day to make a total of 28 out of 40 hours complete.)

If anyone is still in need of healing she will tend to the wounds with utmost care.

As the party move to head out in the morning she flies around 20ft above the vessel to get a view as to what it around. She's fortunate to be a dwarf and have darkvision.

Terser is glad they managed the boat without the use of his elephant. The poor beast is getting a lot of use and will be tired out and unavailable for a while once he's summoned again.

Terser employs his darkvision as well, preferring to use it instead of lights, so as not to alert creatures ahead of them.

He prepares his spells as usual, feeling that they might be a little stronger while they're here, though he doesn't think he can prepare an extra one. His magic doesn't seem to work that way.

[OOC: Should I go back and count all my crafting days? I really have not been keeping count. And it will take a good 50 crafting days to make Zeoll's horn. He's been working on his Horn of Valhalla since Aug. 28, 2017. He was 12th level (almost 13th) then.]

With Tahni flying rather than riding the boat, you make a bit better speed. If you could figure out a way to offload a couple more people, you could actually make pretty good progress.

As things stand, you do make progress, and honestly anything is better than struggling through all that grass. You rely on Darkvision rather than risking lights, but there is little to impede you.

Zeoll, listening to the chatter of his new friend Drini, is forming the beginnings of a pooka lexicon of sorts. You already know, of course, that when she says "the thing is empty" she means she is hungry. Since she is a flying bunny with a high metabolism and a small stomach, the thing is empty rather often. She doesn't seem to eat meat, but she'll eat most other things, and often asks about "bee juice," which you tentatively decide is honey. You've figured out that "twilight" means "piece of cake" or "no problem," and you have also learned that Drini is a touch overconfident, and sometimes things she thinks are twilight really aren't. After a time, you figure out that "sunlight" means "now," and you are reminded that in Sylvan, the expression "under the sun" is often used to mean "now." You still aren't sure about "goblin." Painful? Difficult? Complicated? All of the above? She has told you more than once that you are "past past" and you have no idea what that means. Clearly this is a work in progress.

As the sun begins to rise, you all have a bad moment, because it is coming up behind you. You're supposed to be headed east! How did you get turned around?!

After some frantic consultation and checking, you come to the conclusion that, no, you didn't get turned around. The sun rises and sets in the same direction here! Which makes designations like "east" and "west" kind of meaningless, except now you know you need to travel away from the rising and the setting sun.

Also, Drini's thing isn't the only one that's empty right now. Even though it's dawn here, your bodies are ready for a midday meal. Do you want to try to find a clearing, or just munch snacks on the boat?

"Wow, that's pretty weird to have the sun come up and go down in the same place. I remember the sun moving differently in the Ice Vein, but not like this."

Then after a while he exclains, "Oh, I'm terribly sorry. Since this ring I wear sustains me, I forget about this for others. Please allow me to provide some nourishing food and water for us all."

Rill casts Create Food and Water. Though he may not be hungry, he will still eat with the others, and he will also refill his water skins. It provides enough for far more people than we have here.

"Ah, my young frriend, yourr rreflexes arre betterr than mine, and you have alrready prrocurred prrovisions for all. Thank you, good Rrill."

He has an idea ... "Most Excellent Rrill, I wonderr if it is worrthwhile to cast a Hallow spell on this vessel of ourrs? The days herre arre extrra long, but do we have 24 hourrs to sparre? " If Rill agrees to do so, Zeoll will chip in half the 3,000 gp cost.

Zeoll sets to with a good will, polishing off enough to feed a horse! He tries to convince Drini to eat as well, although it is not honey-flavored. Listening to her rattle on, he develops the theory that being "past past" means he is very old. Zeoll laughs at that thought -- after all, he is!

As the group sails on, Zeoll continues working on his magical horn.

Tahni swoops down to pick up some food before returning to the air. She flies a little off the side of the vessel so as not to drop any crumbs on the party below.

She really paid attention to the sun's position until now, but now it remains firmly in her mind.

Rill is able to conjure up a meal, and everyone eats with a will. Drini eats, too. She is not a picky eater by any means; she just doesn't eat meat. Because, you know, bunny.

You continue to travel through the morning. It's beginning to get a little tiring. People of action, you don't take well to being crammed together on a too-small vessel, flying over landscape with little variation. By night it was at least somewhat mysterious, but now, in the full light of day, it's tedious.

You are all ready for a break when Tahni spots a clearing from her greater height. And although it is still morning, and you've traveled a hair less than eight hours, most of you are ready for another extended rest. And at any rate, clearings in this landscape are hard to come by; you might as well take advantage of this one while you can.

The clearing, you can soon see, was created by a rocky outcropping. The ground here isn't exactly soft, but it is free of grasses. Gratefully, you haul in the sail, leave the vessel, and begin stretching legs that have been in the same position for far too long.

As you are setting up for your rest, your lookouts spot something unusual--a large bird of some kind, heading right for you.

Terser, Tahni, and Aexana realize immediately that this isn't an ordinary bird. It looks like a raven, but it is much bigger than any raven you've ever seen; its wingspan is nearly 7 feet.

Your assessment seems to be shared by Drini, who says aloud, in Common, "Hey! That's not Al!"

As it approaches your campsite, the oversized raven comes down as if to land, then transforms seamlessly into a tall, handsome knight wearing armor patterned like feathers. "Thank the gods I've found you!" he says in Common. "I only hope I'm not too late. Tell me, have you secured it yet?"

As the bird approached, Zeoll cast his spell. He was able to overcome the creature's Spell Resistance, but the creature made its Will save.

Zeoll and Tahni call out to the man who used to be a bird, asking him who he is and what he's doing here.

I understand that you are some of the heroes trying to save your world by recovering a certain item. I have come to warn you: not all who travel on these plains have similarly good intentions. Rill casts a Detect Magic. You can tell that the falchion at Florian's side is magic, as is his armor, but identify no other auras. You ask who these people are and why they want to stop you.

"They are adventurers like yourselves," Florian replies. "Though not much like you, I suppose, since they are of an evil intent. Why they seek to stop you I do not know; only that they do not want you to succeed in your quest."

Tahni turns her mind to it, but cannot recall hearing of a Lord Florian. She can tell that he's carrying a +5 cruel keen falchion and sporting +5 full plate.

Terser offers a bit of rum. "Thank you," Florian says. "It is a dry country here, is it not?" He takes a drink, and returns the cup.

Invisible eagle Aexana bows. You're pretty sure he winks at you.

Zeoll asks how Florian knows so much. "One hears things," he replies. "And, over the years, I've built up a network of confidants who supply me with information from time to time." You ask whether he wants to help stop the spread of the bloodgrass. "Yes, of course," he says. "But more importantly, I want to make sure that you noble and heroic adventures get the credit you deserve for saving your world. I want to help ensure that you are respected and appreciated as you deserve."

Bralin and Jozhur simply watch and wait.

Rill's Probe Psyche finally kicks in. He's not sure why it didn't work before--perhaps some misalignment of cosmic understanding amongst the gods. Or maybe it hadn't been a full minute. For whatever reason, you now know that Florian's alignment is Neutral Evil, that he is a malicious deceiver, and that he likes to ingratiate himself with powerful people with the intent of manipulating them.

"We really need to come up with some signal words" Tahni resolves to come up with that plan later. For now there's a guy standing here with some cruel weapons, good armor, and some powerful spells.

"It sounds like you know your way around this land. Perhaps once we've had a chance to rest you could guide us to our destination. Or perhaps if there is a settlement nearby for us to restock. Our supplies are starting to run a little low. It would also be good to prepare ourselves for possible threats"

"Say, that's a very nice falchion you have" she compliments Florian with a nod "I bet weapons like that would really help us. Would you be willing to trade for it?". It's small-talk but she's hoping to draw others attention to the weapon.

Aexana breaks off her pursuit and returns to the clearing, and you set about making camp.

Rill has some spells to cast, which he is able to do.

Between them, Zeoll and Terser set up a comfortable camp--not an easy task when you're basically sleeping on rocks.

It seems odd to be resting during broad daylight--or perhaps it takes you back to your very early adventuring days, when the entire party had to rest because the mage had cast 2 spells and was done for the day! Either way, as you rest, the sun rises higher in the sky until it is directly overhead--and then it heads back toward the horizon in the same direction it came up. You don't think you're ever going to get used to that.

After your rest is complete, Rill casts a Heroes' Feast and invites everyone to partake. Drini becomes visible for the occasion, and happily tucks into fresh fruits and vegetables. You don't have many of those in your packs, of course; such things don't travel well. You're reminded of why it's called "rabbit food." There is also a pot of honey, which Drini gets very enthusiastic about. "Bee juice!" she says, dipping a piece of bread in. Then she makes silly rhymes: "Bee juice, flea sluice, sea moose...."

As you are finishing up the feast, Zeoll gets a very strong feeling that the time is right to read some of the little book Mahyawu gave you. Not the whole thing, but there's a bit you need. At least that's the sense you get.

So, you dig out the little book and read the following:

Each item has been entrusted to the care of one or more volunteer Guardians, creatures of virtue who have sworn an oath to protect these precious remains of the Sargrass that was. These Guardians were placed in stasis along with the objects they were guarding, suspended without need for air, food, or drink.

Night and day are difficult to navigate here; both are too long, and the sun both rises and sets in the same direction. So, some of you are understandably confused about what time of day it is.

Your previous "day" of travel was mostly by night; you made camp when the sun was still low (although it had risen a couple of hours before). As you rested, the sun went up to noon and started back down. Started meaning "it's afternoon," not "the sun suddenly slam-dunked down below the horizon and it's night again." Today's travel will be by daylight.

Rill--and the rest of you--know that east is in the opposite direction from where the sun both rises and sets. Since you camped a couple of hours after sunrise, you can remember which way the sun was going--and you can kind of see which way it's headed now, although it's going slowly. So east is in the opposite direction.

Aexana half-hopes there's a map in the little book, but there is not. Bralin spent much of the downtime carving on a stone, and is now unbelievably psyched that it's still daytime.

The rest of you are concerned with Florian--with where he is, what he's up to, and whether you'll see him again. Some of you are loath to let him just run around loose, but you have a greater duty to the Wold right now, so "lord" Florian will have to wait.

You pile back onto the not-quite-big-enough craft, and continue heading east. Being packed so tightly together is probably doing wonders for Bralin's mood--and possibly everybody else's as well. Oh, and it's hot out here in the afternoon. Your progress is steady, but slow, and there's nothing to look at but grass. It's unbelievably tedious.

You make it through the long, boring day as best you can. Tahni flies above the craft, occasionally joined by Aexana. Bralin hides his face and makes the best of it. Terser tries to set up targets, but you're all packed in so tightly that there really isn't room to swing a cat. Or a hammer. Instead, he sets up a game, which Rill joins in. Jozhur concentrates on flying the boat, while Zeoll sings and plays to relieve the tedium.

Zeoll also has plans for the evening, but they may have to wait.

Tahni, aloft, sees it first--a huge clearing, far bigger than the one you rested in, or the one where you found this vessel. She alerts Jozhur, who heads for it. The sun is less than a handspan above the horizon when you reach it.

It is a clearing about 100 feet in diameter. The ground is red dirt, and no grasses grow here. In the exact center of the clearing is a sphere of shimmering colors, hovering about 4 feet above the ground.

Rill starts trying to work out what the hovering sphere is. You cast See Invisibility, and you think you see something inside the sphere, but you're not sure what. The interior of the sphere is a void to your Deathwatch; whatever the sphere is made of seems impervious to your spell. You cast Detect Magic, and are soon able to detect a single Moderate aura where the sphere is. As with the Deathwatch, you can tell that your Detect Magic cannot "see" into the sphere; all you can see right now is the aura of whatever is creating it. You attempt to identify it, but you cannot.

Rill (and anyone he tells about what he has discovered) can make a Knowledge: Arcana check, DC 24, to realize Highlight to display spoiler: {the sphere is acting like a ]Resilient Sphere }

Zeoll sounds his horn and casts Mage Armor. He offers the same protection to his companions, and Aexana decides she wants some of that action. Meanwhile, Bralin does some warmup exercises, while Jozhur hides himself as best he can.

Zeoll asks Drini if she knows what this is, but she is as puzzled as the rest of you.

So far, the sphere has done nothing but hover there.

Rill is able to report to the group that there's something inside the sphere, though it's hard to tell what. His spells are unable to penetrate it, so he really has no other information on it.

Zeoll summons a Djinn and asks it to make a plushie souvenir of the globe. The djinn lets out a long-suffering sigh. Perhaps this is the same djinn that had to make a plushie sea-serpent. At any rate, he produces a round ball of plush, which is about a close as he can get, given the medium.

Zeoll then asks him to investigate the globe. The real one, not the plushie one. The djinn examines the sphere, and can provide no more information than Rill could. There's something in there; it's hard to tell what; magic will not penetrate it. He creates an illusion of a massive snake (or sea-serpent?) and has it attack the globe. Nothing happens. He touches it. Nothing continues to happen. On his own initiative, he uses gaseous form to try to get inside it. He cannot; there isn't the tiniest crack or opening in it.

Tahni reports that the globe is similar to a Resilient Sphere, and wonders whether brute force or a simple Dispel is the better course of action. Bralin is partial to the former.

Zeoll recalls his djinn friend; he and Terser and Aexana watch as Rill casts a Dispel Magic.

The sphere goes away, and a couple of things happen. The most noticeable is that a skeletal corpse, clad in plate mail, tumbles to the ground with a rattling clank. A nice-looking sword lands next to it. Experience in adventuring has taught you that this dead body will get up and try to kill you at any moment, but so far it isn't even moving. Could this just be a dead body that's, you know, dead? And if so....what was it doing in the sphere?

Eventually, you notice that the sphere you dispelled was only an outer layer. There is a second, smaller sphere encasing what you can clearly see is a single, sparkling drop of water.

" We're not thieves now are we?!?" Aex asks her friends.

Aex realizes she's not the best negotiator but none the less she thinks the least the Black Lions should do is try to talk to the Guardian... he's doing his job and protecting the drop from evildoers...

"My Lord, we are sent here by the Gods in search of the Sacred Drop of Water... the first drop... the drop that can save our Wold from being devoured by the Red Grasses... the same we see here... I see you have been able to ward them from getting to the Sacred Drop... you have fulfilled your quest my Lord... we are here to help and bring the First Drop of Water back to the Gods... Please...

There are others looking for this very same drop and we are worried they too will find you soon...

Speaking of which... Aex looks around to see if that raven is flying around this area somewhere... (perception 31)

The little greenmage has no idea what this Gate Archon is Thani mentions not what spells would work against it... Leafy stays close to Aex.

"Only one guardian for such an important drop of water?!? How strong is he that he can challenge the Black Lions on his own... " Aex thinks quite worried...

Jozhur winces as Bralin decides to strike first, though he's probably right. He still does his best to talk the ghost out of a fight, he knows he is of little use in a fight against a ghost.

"Wait! We are not thieves. As my friend said, we were sent here by the gods to retrieve this sacred drop of water and serve as its new guardians. Look around you! The red grass invades your plane, just as it does our Wold. We can stop it, but we need this water. That is the purpose of the sacred water, the reason you have been standing watch over it. Your duty is complete."

Jozhur gets the feeling he probably wasn't convincing enough. Maybe he should have spun a tall tale instead.

Seeing the undead form, Rill quickly gets to casting! He casts a quickened Prayer, then gives Bralin's weapon the Ghost Touch property.

Tahni joins the buffing party and casts Haste. As your DM used to say in face-to-face games, everybody who is paying attention is hasted.

Terser embiggens himself.

Zeoll sends his djinn to give Bralin a hand, and starts summoning a new friend.

Aexana and Jozhur try for a bit of diplomacy, but the ghost is unmoved.

Bralin shrugs all that aside and moves up to attack! His weapon hits, and hits fully, though it doesn't seem to do its full damage [the critter has DR above and beyond its incorporeal thing].

The ghost begins casting a spell. Spellcraft DC 22 Highlight to display spoiler: {Banishment}. It casts defensively, so as not to provoke. Bralin and Terser need to make a Will save, DC 22, or be banished back to the Wold.

And the map.

"What's he casting?!" She shouts to those closest to her and holds her action to see the effect of the spell... she holds her Greater Dispel Magic ready to cast it as a counter spell should it have some dreadful effect. (Greater Dispel Magic check CL11 : 21)

If neither Bralin not Terser are affected by the spell Aex will cast it anyway but target the Guardian himself hoping to strip away some of his buffs. Aex can try to clear 3 spells : checks : 15, 27, 30

As a free movement she sticks her staff into the ground bringing forth her Staff Treant again at full force... Both Leafy and the Staff Treant move towards the center and veer in on the Drop of Water.

DM Kathy  d20+16=25 ; d4=1 ;

Terser resists the ghost's spell. Swinging his glaive at the creature, he thinks back to the good old days, when the streetcar cost a nickel and THAC0 was a thing.

[A note for all us Olds about how incorporeal works now. You no longer roll a miss chance when attacking with a magic weapon. Instead, your (non-Ghost-Touch) weapon does half damage. The only time you roll a miss chance is for non-damaging effects.]

Terser also channels energy into the ghost. It makes its save, and takes half the damage. [Can you re-calculate your weapon damage, and give me a new total? DMs aren't supposed to roll for players or I'd do it myself.]

Rill gives Terser's weapon the Ghost Touch ability, so now the math should be easier, at least.

Aexana aims a Dispel Magic at the creature, and she successfully dispels its True Seeing spell. The other checks were not high enough.

Tahni targets the guardian with good ol' Magic Missile, which always hits and even damages a ghost. This ghost is no exception.

Zeoll continues casting while his djinn continues helping Bralin. Bralin keeps going with his ghost touch weapon, doing a lot of damage.

Jozhur joins in the attack, doing some damage of his own.

The ghost seems to--well, not heal; it's dead. But it seems to recover a little. "BEGONE!" it shouts, its voice rising into an unearthly howl. All living creatures within a 30-foot spread must succeed on a DC 25 Will save or become panicked for 2d4 rounds. This is a sonic mind-affecting fear effect. A creature that successfully saves against the moan cannot be affected by the same ghost's moan for 24 hours.

Looking at the map, that would seem to affect Bralin, Terser, Jozhur, both Leafys, and Zeoll's djinn.

And the map.

Leafy and the Staff Treant are immune to mind-affecting spells.

When Terser passes her by the Greenmage starts thinking what she has in her pockets that could hopefully help him... Lesser Restoration potion perhaps? No spells that can cure him... Aex has potions that can help for a lot of things but nothing to remove Fear...

The Staff Treant moves behind the guardian and bashes with his branches...
Slam hits AC30 - damage 11
Slam hits AC23 - damage 15

Leafy is blocked from getting any nearer to the guardian.

With his True Seeing spell gone, the Guardian now no longer can see invisible creatures... so Aex takes the benefit of using her Ring of Invisibility once again and moves closer to the second sphere... She prepares one of her Lifewood Flasks hoping to capture the water should it's protective barrier break. She makes a double move nearer.

Bralin is unaffected by the ghost's frightful moan, and continues laying into him with his Ghost Touch weapon.

Jozhur is also unaffected, but without his sneak attacks, he can't damage the creature.

Aexana, confident that the ghost cannot see her, moves closer to the sphere, while the staff treant attacks and does a bit of damage.

Terser is frightened by the ghost's moan! He begins fleeing as fast as he can! Which, once he hits the tangled grasses, is honestly not very fast. It may take a while to get him out of there, though.

Tahni calls for a Peaceball, but Rill is already there with a Break Enchantment. I'm honestly not sure whether that will work against a supernatural effect, but even if it does, you need to make a caster level check. Your DC is 28.

The ghost is badly injured now, ghostly emanations eerily reminiscent of blood pouring out of its ghostly wounds. It heals a little, but not nearly enough. Another round like that will finish him.

He casts a spell, concentrating so as not to provoke from Bralin. A Blade Barrier springs up around the sphere. Jozhur can make a DC 21 Reflex save to avoid 59 points of damage.

Zeoll's scroll finishes ... or does it? It is a Summon Fey Friend VII spell, requiring a caster level of 13! Zeoll has only a caster level of 11. He must roll 1d20+11 to beat a DC14. He rolls a 13! Oh my! But with a heroic effort, he adds +4 retroactively to the check and succeeds anyway!

What do his efforts bring him? What creature has the Silver Lady sent? On a roll of a d6, Zeoll lands a 1, and calls forth an Elder Elemental! A d4 roll (1-air, 2-earth, 3-fire, and 4-water) reveals an elder fire elemental! At Zeoll's request, the ancient roaring embodiment of flame rears up and slams into the ghost -- if it can even affect it at all!

If so, it strikes with 2 slams +23 (2d8+8 plus burn) ... hitting AC39 and 32 for 14 and 20.

As for Zeoll himself, the old taur, sluggish today it seems, wonders if he should even have gotten out of bed today. Oh, that darn lumbago! He contents himself with channelling energy to hurt the ghost, since it is undead after all. The Will DC is 20 to take 5 damage or 2.

As Rill goes to cast Break Enchantment on Terser, he is suddely struck by the fact that the casting time on that is 1 minute.

(Grrrrr! Not what I was thinking trying to ready a 1 min casting time spell! Wasted action.)

He has no way to stop Terser from running off, but if there is anyone that can take care of himself out there it's Terser. With his cestus, he's always armed, and with his spells and healing ability, he should be in good shape. Given the Status spell Rill has on Terser, Rill will know if he runs into trouble and finding him later should be simple.

As the dwarf runs off into the grass Rill says, "I have no way to end the fear effect on Terser, but I will monitor his status and location from here. If he runs into trouble, I can get to him in an instant. The quickest way to help Terser will be to end this creature."

Tahni conjures up a Spectral Hand while Terser continues to flee.

Zeoll calls up an Elder Fire Elemental, who strides toward the ghost. Before he can get there, however, Rill's channeled energy, Jozhur's rapier, Bralin's axe, and yes, even the combined efforts of the Leafys (the ghost's AC is only 19) banish the ghost before we even find out whether fire would have hurt it.

The ghost is gone, but the Blade Barrier remains. Terser is still fleeing, and Tahni's Unseen Servant continues to drag the sword along the ground.

"I'm going to monitor Terser, and once I no longer sense he is panicked I'll go get him. Cause I don't really want to get out there and chase him through this grass. If he becomes hurt or otherwise affected, I'll grab a few of you and we'll intervene."

Rill will use Status to monitor the Dwarf's location and condition until the fear in him subsides. Then he plans to Dimension Door out there and back.

Rill keeps tabs on Terser until his terror wears off, which only takes a few seconds (3 more rounds). You are easily able to Dimension Door over to him and extract him from the thicket of grasses he's managed to tangle himself in.

Tahni is interested in the armor and sword. The armor is not magical; some consultation with the rest of the group eventually reveals that it is Mithral full plate. The weapon is a +3 defending greatsword.

The rest of the group is more concerned with the drop of water--has it changed? how is it protected?--but it's difficult to see much detail through the wall of whirling blades that surrounds it. The casters among you (presumably) know that the blade barrier will not last forever, but for now, it's going to be very difficult to discern anything meaningful about the drop.

Of course ,the barrier only blocks the sides of the sphere, and at least one of you is flying.

Rill brings Terser back to the clearing. The dwarf is inclined to be a bit shamefaced after his sudden departure, but his companions seem ready to forgive him. After all, as Rill observes, ghosts are scary.

Bralin expresses an interest in the armor.

Zeoll suggests dispelling the Blade Barrier, but Aexana, at least, won't be able to help with that. She and Jozhur discuss ways to dodge past the blades, but decide they're better off just waiting it out.

That is, unless Zeoll was offering a dispel, instead of just suggesting one.

Meanwhile, Zeoll's fire elemental stomps around the clearing, looking vaguely disgruntled. Little sparks and bursts of flame fly off its body and into the very dry grass, but this stuff seems to resist burning. Anyway, there are no brush fires yet.

Whether you wait out the Blade Barrier or dispel it, eventually it is gone and you can get a good look at the water drop. It does not seem to have changed since you first set eyes on it, though you can see it a bit more clearly now that the outer sphere is gone. It is enclosed in a very similar sphere, which [map notwithstanding] isn't much more than 4 inches in diameter. Depending on what is making the thing hover there, you might just be able to pick it up and carry it.

Unless, of course, it's protected by some kind of magical trap you haven't detected yet.....

Tahni looks at the water drop. You can see the Resilient Sphere surrounding it, and something resembling a Levitate. Both spells are obviously permanent, though you see no sign of a Permanency spell. You don't see anything else.

Aexana suggests just packing the thing up and carrying it, while Bralin tries to stow his new armor.

Jozhur is on alert, but all seems quiet.

Rill volunteers to grab the sphere, but requests somebody be ready to catch the drop just in case. "Twilight!" says a little voice, and Drini becomes visible, clutching the vial that Zeoll gave her waaaay back before the first sphere was dispelled. She holds it up, ready to catch the drop.

She proves not to be needed--at least, not at this point. Rill can grasp and carry the object just as if it were a ball of glass or metal or some other material. It does still want to float in the air, so you'll need to make sure it is secure, but it looks as though you can just carry it around until you need to use the drop.

Speaking of which, Zeoll senses it is now time to play upon the flute that Mahyawu gave you. You also get a sense that it will return you to the meteorite and the crystal shard--which is underwater.

There may be some spells that need to be cast at this point.

Zeoll gets out the flute, but you pause for a moment. Your casters have cast a lot of spells; many have the wrong spells prepared. You'd like to wait a day, so you can rest and re-prepare.

Rill casts a Divination, and asks what will happen if you wait a day. The answer is as simple as it is horrifying: The Wold will end.

While you organize your spells, Rill reads the book. The ritual calls for the musical instrument to be played, and Zeoll seems to have that covered. No specific type of music is indicated, but perhaps, given the nature of the group a sea-chanty would not go amiss.

While the music is playing, herbs need to be scattered near the crystal. You realize that what you though were sticks of incense are in fact tightly-packed herbs, ready to be scattered. It will be a challenge underwater, to be sure. [OOC: It was incense, but your DM realized that making you burn incense underwater was just mean.]

Once the music and herbs are going, the water drop needs to touch the crystal. You're pretty sure you can dispel the Resilient Sphere around the drop, but then you have to make sure that that one drop, out of all the drops of water in the ocean, actually touches the crystal. And how you're going to do that is a bit of a puzzler.

Once everyone understands what is expected, Zeoll raises the flute to his lips and begins to play....

(MikeK)Bralin (AC35 / T14 / FF32)CMD 30 - HP 176/165)
Wednesday May 9th, 2018 5:54:49 PM

Bralin cracks his neck .. left, then right. He windmills his arms. He looks to Zeoll.

Bralin is ready.

Zeoll (Cayzle) (AC29/31; 77+11 of 77hp)
Wednesday May 9th, 2018 6:10:18 PM

Wednesday May 9th, 2018 6:27:00 PM

Jozhur puzzles about how they are to do all of this underwater. It seems they would have to figure that out on the fly, as Zeoll begins playing. He holds his breath and feels for his magical bottle of air in his bag of holding.

Tahni nods at Terser's wisdom. It is far better to have a maneuverable fighter that caster.

She closes her eyes just a little in preparation of being underwater once more. Also because she has no idea how this flute even works.

not sure what to do to keep the drop of water safe... under water... perhaps being an elemental could help keeping it safe?? But without a clue yet how to solve this riddle Aex fears they'll just have to find out on the other side...

Water breathing up and running on all but Aex...
