Tahni heals Jozhur.

Terser attacks the reaper, and hits once, doing damage.

Zeoll's Shambler isn't having much luck. He completes his summons, and gets another Sea Hag! He has her go stand next to the first one. This should end well. He starts another summons.

Aexana's Ball Lightning continues to fling electrical charges at the reaper, but this time it dodges all of them! It cannot dodge Leafy, however, who lands a punch and does damage. She flings more lightning at the reaper, and it dodges some of this damage, too.

Jozhur's healing came in the nick of time, and he is able to land a powerful strike with his sword.

Bralin keeps going with the wand, and does more damage.

The second Sea Hag conjures a giant foam hand in black and gray, the index finger pointed up. "Number one!" she yells. "We're number one! Whooo! Go, Lesser Death!" The first hag also continues to cheer.

The reaper may or may not hear them; it's a little preoccupied. It decides to focus its attacks on Jozhur. It hits twice, but one of these is a critical hit! Jozhur takes 51 damage!

Reminders:

Unnatural Aura: Normal animals do not willingly approach the reaper unless the animal's master makes a DC 25 Handle Animal, Ride, or wild empathy check.

Aura of Misfortune: When a living creature attempts an ability check, attack roll, caster level check, skill check, or saving throw within 10 feet of the reaper, it must roll two d20s and take the lowest roll before applying any modifiers.

Rill checks the situation, and monitors that status of the Black Lions. Then takes a 5' step and does a healing burst, healing all but Tahni and Zeoll for 26 points.

His Spiritual Weapon strikes AC 37 for12 damage, and then hits AC 29 for another 12 damage (Aura of Misfortune only applies to living creatures, which the Spiritual Weapon is not?)

Then the Earth Elemental strikes for 15' away, hitting AC 28 and AC 30 for 20 and 18 damage respectively.

(OOC: Cross post at the same time as the DM. With the DM's discretion, that was last round, and this is this move. If not, feel free to pick which post you want to use. It's not a great excuse for a late post, but I spent the weekend trying to help pull off a wedding or a friend in the Santa Barbara area through venue and caterer changes due to the fires. Ugh. Lots of smoke and ash. The wedding was great! Just got back.)

Rill is relieved to see Tahni heal Jozhur. He casts Greater Disrupt Undead, and hits the creature with positive energy for 19 points of damage (Reflex save DC 18 for half.)

The Spiritual Weapon strikes again hitting AC 34 for 6 damage, and then missing.
The Earth Elemental hits AC 28 for 20 damage and then missing.

Rill laughs at the undead creature. "You have no power here. Gargul holds sway over life and death. Begone!"

Aexana concentrates on the Ball Lightnings hoping they will annoy the Undead some more...

Jozhur is struck again and again. He feels this death may actually take him. Just as he is getting weak, he feels his vitality return. Jozhur simply grits his teeth and continues his attempt to poke holes in this reaper, but his attacks fall short.

Zeoll's Shambling Mound attacks again, this time just trying to grapple the undead thing, with a CMB of +18 with the flank ...

Grapple Attack: Two rolls = beats CMD 26 and 32. If the roll of 26 wins the grapple, then the damage is 12 and it is grappled.

Zeoll concludes his fourth summons of the fight and brings a [SFFIII] ... d10=5 ... A Mothman! Zeoll is a little fearful of what it might do, but he puts it close to the fight anyway. He commands it in a clear voice: "Fly to that shambling mound, cast Grreaterr Invisibility on it, and then fly back to yourr starrting space please!" Zeoll figures better to have it cast on the shambler than maybe jinx a fellow adventurer.

Last round, Rill healed his companions while his Spiritual Weapon thwacked the reaper. This round, the Spiritual Weapon does more damage, while Rill casts a spell targeting undead. The reaper dodges some of it, but it's looking hurt. The Elemental continues to attack, but does not connect.

Tahni heals Jozhur, who presses his attack, but is unable to land a blow.

Bralin activates the wand again, but this time his aim fails him.

But all of that is okay, because you have Terser, and Aexana, and Reggie. Among the three of them, they send the manifestation of Death back to wherever it came from, while the Sea Hags set up a chorus of boos.

Zeoll summons a Mothman, but the fight is over.

With everything seeming calm for the moment, Terser drops out of his rage and enjoys the healing energy, panting for a few moments while waiting for something else to manifest itself. Zeoll stands respectfully and silently, except for warning his friends not to approach the hags.

The odd thing about the Summon Fey Friend spell, he muses as he waits for the spells to expire, is that while the Summon Monster and Summon Nature's Ally spells can be dismissed -- that is, the summoned creatures can be sent back before the spell expires -- his magic cannot. Whatever is summoned remains until the magic ends. "Therre's no saying "no thanks" to the Fey King," he thinks to himself, not chuckling (so as not to annoy the hags), although the swish of his tail betrays his amusement at his own internal comment.

The old taur is wary that another enemy might appear, so he keeps alert ... Perception 42.

If no enemy pops in, the hags go away after 2-3 rounds; the mothman after 9 rounds; the shambler after 15.

Aex casts a sigh of relief. She was worried this battle would have cost the life of some...
The little Gnome stands before the mighty treant and nods. Instantly the Treant shrinks and moments later Aex holds her Staff again... Leafy feels bad he could not hit the foul creature but is happy no one suffered serious injuries.

"Anyone in need of some healing? Potions? Sadly I don't hold the power yet to cure the negative effect the Reaper caused... let's just hope we get through this night so we can fix the ships in the morning. Yet somehow... I'm worried we haven't seen the last here...

Where's here?? Hoping to get some clue about their whereabouts Aex questions the captains of both ships...

She keeps the Ball Lightning active (another 13 rounds).
Still several minutes before the Mass Bull's Strength and Aex's endurance end.

Reggie staggers a bits and move to the side of the nearest ship, she leans against the hull and tries to keep to her feet.

her skin returns to normal once more. it takes a bit as her internal power slowly subsides.

Rill and Tahni heal Terser, who needs to rest for a bit. While he's resting, he looks around for dropped weapons, and sees that the death figure did indeed drop its scythe.

Reggie, too, is suffering from post-battle exhaustion. She goes to check on the ships, and finds that Ky has cried himself to sleep, with Bralin's stone lion clenched in one little fist.

Aexana belatedly wonders where you are, and discovers that the group had previously ascertained that this atoll is probably southwest of Rum and north of the Taurs.

Zeoll, Bralin, and Jozhur stay alert for possible new opponents. You don't see any yet. However, Zeoll and Jozhur notice that there's an interestingly symmetrical lump of sand on the beach, perhaps worth exploring. It's uncomfortably close to the hags, however, who are still booing and jeering the results of the fight.

Rill gestures and returns his white robes to their clean and pressed state. He pushed his helm back a bit on his head as he pulls out a wand of Lesser Restoration. Then he and touches both Reggie and Terser with the wand (and anyone else that may be fatigued.)

"There, that should remove your fatigue. Hmm. For folks with negative levels, those Death Ward spells are only gonna last another 10 minutes or so. I can burn a Restoration scroll to fix one person, but the rest are going to need to wait until tomorrow."

"Good thinking to steer clear of that lump until we can catch our breath, but we should poke at it in about 5 minutes. Things have been arriving here with some regularity, and I'd rather do it before those Death Ward spells wear off."

"Hey Zeoll, can you send your not-so-frindly friends to the other side of the island until they disappear? They're creeping me out."

Jozhur scratches his head over the interesting lump of sand. He patiently watches the hags and waits for them before he goes to inspect the sand mound. Jozhur has always been amused with the random nature of Zeoll's magic.

When they do approach, Jozhur will ask the others to stay a short distance behind him, just in case it is a trap of some sort.

With the group's decision to wait a little bit Aex's Ball Lightnings wink out of existence. Not sure what else remains of her cast spells. She asks Leafy to keep his guard. The trustful young tree companion sticks his wooden nose in the air hoping to catch the scent of anything foul that approaches.

Bralin raises a hand when Rill offers the Lesser Restoration wand. Hopefully the effects of the bat creature's attacks are temporary and can be restored.

Otherwise, he waits to see what develops from the sand.

The battle done, the casters begin worrying about lingering effects. Several people have been level drained, and Bralin's Charisma was drained, not damaged, meaning a Lesser Restoration will not be enough.

But there is also that tantalizing lump of sand. You wait until Zeoll's...um....friends blip back to wherever they came from, then step forward to explore. You find a small wooden chest, battered and aged. It has clearly been here for some time. Inside are a rod, a wand, a small bag, a ring, a little purplish stone, 4 silver goblets, 2 bracelets, a necklace, and a pouch containing three gemstones. You also have the scythe the reaper dropped.

[Hint: some of the treasure is non-magical, so Appraise checks would also be useful.]

As you examine the treasure, the crew of both ships hesitantly begin coming out onto the beach.

Tahni will look over the recovered items and make suggestions as to what each one is. Hopefully her mind is a little more focused now that the combat is over. Her mind was really out of it that time.

Rill will cast Detect Magic to see what's magic and what's mundane.

"Tishe, I see that your practiced eye is better than mine at this sort of thing. I'll just keep an eye out for any trouble."

Rill looks to make sure there are no more surprises, and readies a Dispel Magic should the act of identifying these items trigger some unwanted effect.

Zeoll studies the loot, field manual in hand. He marvels at the utility of the tome, with the notes compiled from a long life's memories; the joy of reading, an ability he only acquired later in life, strikes him anew.

Plus as he looks over the treasure, he hopes that maybe the voices in his head will help ... Detect Magic and Guidance from the Fey Queen surely will!

Aexana knows something about plants and animals but when it comes to appraising weaponry and trinkets she's no help at all. So she keeps her distance as the rest examines the goods.

She watches the rest of the crew as they seem to disembark from the boats again. The little Gnome waves and says it appears to be safe for now on the beach. She does urge them to continue with the repairs and to not wander too far from the ships... who knows when and what will pop up next.

Leafy makes a sour face... he was just digging with his roots into the sandy soil but it's too salty here for him to find some refreshment. What else can you expect from a weird atol in the middle of the sailing waters.

You put your heads together and are able to figure out what you have.

From the reaper, you have a +2 Keen scythe.

From the chest, you have a Metamagic Rod: Extend, a Wand of Resist Energy, a Bag of Tricks: Rust, a Scroll of Wall of Thorns, an Ioun Stone: Pale Lavender Ellipsoid, and a Ring of Chameleon Power.

You also have some non-magical items: 3 fire opals worth about 700 gp each; 4 silver goblets decorated with moonstones, worth about 400 gp each, a set of coral bracelets worth about 2,000 gp total, and a gold an emerald necklace worth 2600 gp.

It is nearly full dark by now, and the sailors are lighting lanterns to work by. They have formed themselves into three groups, one for each hole, and are currently sorting through their timber and hardware, figuring out what they have and what they need.

Rill will move among the groups effecting repairs on both ships, casting Guidance and healing spells where needed. His Ring of Sustenance will allow him to go with little sleep, and he has a number of Continual Flame items to help with lighting. (The Lionfish already has several Continual Flame lanterns and such to provide non-flammable light sources.)

Aex looks at the loot. There are some nifty things in that pile but none that trigger her attention.
She then observes the works on the ship... if only she had meditated some of her woodworking spells... things would go a lot quicker.

Not the handy type without her spells she looks around to see what she can do... she'll take care of small injuries, blisters, thirst, anything that keeps the wheel spinning. After a while she yawns...

"You know I could do with a little sleep... after a good sleep I might be more useful..."

If no one objects, Aex will go for a nap... Leafy will stand guard, he never sleeps anyhow...

Zeoll looks over the loot and explains that he is especially interested in magical musical instruments these days. He is happy to take gold so that he can craft his own. He's in the middle of making a variation on the Horn of Valhalla. So the cash is fine.

He surveys the scene, just making sure everyone is okay. As the durations for the shambler and the mothman expire, Zeoll bows and thanks them kindly for their service.

At the moment, your primary concerns are loot and repairs. Whatever shook up the Wold seems to have died down. It's a lovely, clear night, and there are no signs of any other unwelcome visitors.

The sailors work far into the night, completing their repairs. It is past midnight by the time they begin gathering their tools and returning to their ships.

Room is found for Aexana on the Lionfish, and both ships push out a short distance from shore before dropping anchor to wait for daylight.

I'd say we use whatever gold we need from this newly found loot to buy the scrolls or ingredients. We need everyone patched up... if the Wold is to come to its end we'd better make sure to be in shape. If there's any share for me from this pile please use it."

when offered the money as part of her share, "keep all that you need, get people taken care of. I am not needing that much right now." she says offering as much of her 11k gold as she can to get what is needed for healing.

Tahni offers a Lesser Restoration for anyone who needs one, but alas, it will not help anyone at present. It would be able to help with ability damage, but ability drain requires a full Restoration. As do the negative levels, of course.

However, Tahni also offers to Teleport to the Catacombs to buy whatever the group may need, and that will probably be more useful, once you figure out what you do need.

Absent magic, anybody who got a negative level must succeed at a DC 29 Fortitude save to get rid of it. You get to try to save once per day. Ability drain will remain in place until magically cured.

As you discuss your options, the eastern sky grows lighter. Dawn is arriving.

Rill will assess the whole level loss situation.

"Awright. Anyone that was weakened in a specific way (ability drain) will need a Restoration, and it just takes a little diamond dust (100 gp). If you were weakened in a general way (level loss), that should be temporary effect that I can fix now with a Restoration spell and a little diamond dust (100 gp). But if you wait a whole day, those things can become permanent. That's when it costs a whole lot more (1,000 gp)."

With the morning light, Rill will pray for several Restoration spells. He will pull out some diamond dust, and cast Restoration on Jozhur, Reggie and Terser(?), Bralin(?). This should alleviate the need for any saving throws for lost levels.

Restoration - This spell functions like lesser restoration, except that it also dispels temporary negative levels or one permanent negative level. If this spell is used to dispel a permanent negative level, it has a material component of diamond dust worth 1,000 gp. This spell cannot be used to dispel more than one permanent negative level possessed by a target in a 1-week period.

Restoration cures all temporary ability damage, and it restores all points permanently drained from a single ability score (your choice if more than one is drained). It also eliminates any fatigue or exhaustion suffered by the target.

The next morning Aex rummages through her potions and digs up some Lesser Restoration potions.
"That's the best I can do I'm affraid... I have 4 of these if that would help someone. The rest we'll need to buy a cure for... I do have some Bear's Endurance potions too... that would help increasing your fortitude to fight the negative powers. Drink that before you try to fight it out of your system..."

Refreshed and her spells meditated Aex checks if there's anything light to eat. Leafy has some fresh water to drench his roots into and he seems to be catching the morning sun with his leaves.

"Well... it's been most intriguing bumping into the Lionfish last night... I'm getting old so maybe you already told me but... where were you heading? "

Rill will respond low to Zeoll, "Zeoll, that is a good thought and a kind gesture, but it's been my experience that people need to follow their own path. I do not advise that purchase without permission."

"Aexana, we are headed back to Bonetown for now. I think. Even so, we don't seem to stay there long. Troubles crop up in the Wold, and seem to find ourselves needing to stand between that trouble and some innocents. You are welcome to join us again. We could certianly use your healing and you abilities."


Rill will ask Tahni, "Tahni, I will stay here with the ship and crew, but I'd appreciate it if you could purchase these things..." He gives the gnome a list of mundane items - mostly diamond dust and scroll materials.

As for any the ability damage and lost levels, Rill's use of Restoration should take care of that before any saving throws need to be made.

But I need to know who lost levels and Charisma so I know how much diamond dust to use up. So far, Bralin, Jozhur and Reggie. Anyone else?

He ponders the supernatural storm and the strange monsters, trying to come up with some sort of explanation, but he doesn't know much about these things. He pesters Zeoll and Tahni about what they saw, hoping they can come up with an answer.

As the Lionfish makes way to Bonetown Aex gazes the calm waters around her. The Wold is such a wonderful place... can this all go to waste? Are evil powers trying to end it?
She looks at the white foam topping the waves as they pass by the Lionfish proud hull - the scratches on her belly the only proof she's been in some dreadful battles at sea. She pulled through so far... she'll make it through the end of days as well.

"Stay here Leafy"

Aexana plunges into the water and changes into a Dolphin. The Wold looks beautiful above water but it's majestic beneath the waves... In Dolphin shape she swims along with the Lionfish. She watches schools of fish minding their own business, sparkly corals, plants waving their leaves gently with the current.

In her absence she learned about rare plants and herbs. Some can be used to create unique potions or ointments... who knows, she might just stumble on some rare ones down here... (lesser herbal infusion)
