DM Mark - "Lets go take a look, shall we?"

The items located under the broken boat are examined. What to do with the remains of the previous owner are discussed too, ranging from burning them to taking them to the nearby wooded grove. There is also some speculation about how he died.

Emrys suggests a way to use the wood from the boat.

As all this is happening, Brom announces he will take the remains to the woods.

Based on the party’s earlier intentions, you all assume mist form a drift to the copse of trees nearby. As you enter in mist form, you find that the wooded area is rather ovegrown. There are a few birds here and insects as well. There is a clearing of sorts in the middle, where you will find an old sod hut.

You assume solid form in here. The insects here are a bother, and some bite and sting, which you find rather distraction. As you search the hut, you find the remains of animals and plants in here, once carefully collected and organized, but now you see they have decayed, and in some cases been gnawed on by some animal. There are also some bottles and clay pots here. Most are broken and empty, though a few are still sealed. There is also an old box that contains two metal tankards.

Not wanting the bones he carries to be gnawed on as well, Brom thinks to bury the remains. As he does so, the silent form of the druid rises from where you buried the bones, looking like it did when you fought it - but perhaps not as angry.

“My name is Glúnmar. Thank you for returning me to my home and releasing me from this place. Long have I laid in that spot. Now perhaps I can rest. I recall that when the Sargrass was removed from the Wold by Maab, many that lived here were given the choice to leave the Sargass for other parts of the Wold. Most did, scattered across the Wold. But I chose to remain. So did some of my brethern. But that was long ago. Some left later. Some went mad.

“There were people that saw the relocated and depopulated Sargrass as a place to plunder. They were either those that chose to stay in Rotterdam and elsewhere, or that travelled here by planar travel. It was one such group that came near to my place. I ordered them to leave. They chose to fight. I was crushed in my battle with those on that accursed boat. But I did not die right away. I lay there, trapped and unable to cast spells, for hours before I perished.”

The form of the spirit of Glúnmar begins to fade.

“Do not harm this place. Respect the Sargrass. Respect my grove. You shall have no trouble here. Go in peace.”

The pestering insects suddenly depart from you.

You find it is late in the day and your body needs rest, though the sun is still high in the sky. You may choose to rest here or elsewhere, or to press on.

As you go north, you will find and search a few more wooded groves over the next day or two Please note what your general approach to travel is. Please also note what your approach is to exploring these groves. Bear in mind that you are a bit vulnerable in mist form, as it takes 5 rounds to transform and you cannot cast spells or fight while in mist form.

"Huh? well...Brom was right. I suggest that I cast the mansion and we rest here. This place seems safe enough, and as I already have the spell prepared, we may as well rest in complete comfort. We can then discuss how we are going to approach things in the coming days."

Unless there is opposition, V will cast the mansion and Once inside, and everyone has had a chance to clean up, eat and drink, V will begin the discussion for upcoming days. "We may need to search dozens of these groves before we find the one that has the crystal. While the windwalk has the benefit of lasting a long time, and carrying all of us, being stuck in mist form and defenseless for half a minute could certainly be a fatal move. Especially if something nasty in a grove sees us coming, and prepares to hit us as we start to transform. I have some teleports, but that will only work if we can see the grove, and I can't get all of us. fly has time limitations, and would not be spell effective as far as resource usage. I'm also not a huge fan of wandering through the red weeds. Ideas? Anyone?"

Tishe’ is pleased they were able to lay the druid to rest and in fact got more information on what happened. “He was a druid of the Sargrass like my Bloodpack friend, Gilan. We had different experiences on the Last Day but the Sargrass was, is, a wide land. And he died fighting white-handed beaters. I wish him a shady rest.”

She considers Emrys’ suggestion. “We never tried that but we can now.” Tishe’ works with Emrys to see if between Tishe’s knowledge and crafting skills and Emrys’ Witchy abilities, they can devise a talisman of druidwood that repels the BloodGrass.

“Travelling by mist is fast and safe, but we’ll need some hand gestures to point out landing areas, danger, and other codes.” The sorceress helps out so simple thoughts can be done while on mist form.

As to protections and preparations... she shrugs. “Until we know a specific danger, all my protections are short duration and so of little use while travelling.”

Barratore scratches his head and rubs a horn. "I'm sorry, but I must be getting old." Barratore pauses and purses his lips, "V? Did you just say, Brom was right?" Barratore steps left out of Brom's reach. The fighter does not find himself with much to add on searching the groves in mist form. He agrees that forming up in a grove with hostiles is not a good idea, but rather than a set of hand gestures he'll forget, he offers the following

"When we come to a grove, Brom should make the sweep while we wait at a safe distance. Brom could then return and either lead us in or to a safe outskirts landing zone ."

"Course, I was right." He says putting his fist up in a mock fighting pose at Barratore.

"Don't you guys got some spell that let's us talk without talkin'?" He says. "Gotta be somethin'. If not, I'm good with B's plan."

Inside the manor created by V, Brom takes off his armor and gets cleaned up. At the meal, Brom listens to the discussion. "We can make one of those grass ships. Might take up a little time, but probably save us time in the long haul."

"Yes... that's what V said, dear Barratore."

Before Emrys will retire to the mansion, he asks to wait until he can do one last thing with one of the planks of druidwood from the boat. While touching one of the planks of druidwood (one that is not load bearing or would cause the structure to collapse on him, Knowledge [engineering]: 28.) He casts a powerful spell that causes the plank to polymorph into six medallion-shaped disks of druidwood (8-inches in diameter) with a hole that could be strung with a chain or cord. One of the shapes is a wooden ring that could fit on Daemon.

(Casting Polymorph Any Object on a plank of druidwood. Duration: Same kingdom +5, same class +2, related +2 = +9 duration permanent. He tries to make the disks somewhat pleasing to the eye.. simple design, beveled edges, etc.)

After gathering up the wooden disks and ring, he enters the mansion with the rest. At dinner he discusses ideas on how to boost their inherent natural repelling abilities at least temporally. Possibly weave an infusion of a Control Plant spell to better resist the grasses. (Knowledge [Arcana]: 31, Spellcraft: 43.)

Velarin creates a mansion, and everyone enters. Before Emrys enters, he returns briefly to the broken ship and selects a plank. He casts Polymporph Any Object and transform a plank into a wooden medallion-shaped disk (if he wants to have 6 of these, he will need to cast the spell 6 times.) Then he returns to the mansion to think about what to do with the disk.

The heroes of the Vale retire to their mansion and discuss tactics. It’s quite comfortable here, and the food is very good. They discuss various ways to approach and search any wooded areas they many encounter. Barratore offers for Brom to go first is such situations.

Edson again asks about using some of the magic items. Emrys discusses with the others some ways to use his druid-wood disk. (Your DM is not quite sure what Emrys wants to do. Is he crafting a magic item? How does he do this?)

(If you can let your DM know in general how you approach these wooded area, we can simplify things. Alternatively, we can run through them all one by one.)

Velarin smiles as Barratore took the first verbal swing at Brom, having known very well that someone would.

"Barratore's plan has some merit. The only issue would be if something could attack Brom while in a gaseous form, which I grant you is unlikely. If such a thing happened, we would need to start transforming back immediately, and I could teleport most of us to Brom's aid. After Broms fly around, it would be his call in locating the safest place for us to reform, even if that were outside of the grove. We would just be able to follow and do as he does."

"Sometimes the simplest plans are the best, and this is pretty simple. Even we shouldn't be likely to mess this up. I will have four endure elements prepared again for tomorrow."

V will enjoy the comforts provided by the mansion for the evening, and get some sleep for another long day. Memorizing spells in the morning.

Noting the knowledge that Emrys has in the engineering field, Barratore defers to the blood witch. Aiding his friend in any plans they can create to possibly create a skiff as described by Tishe. "Although the skiff would not be under the affect of any Air Walking spell."

Barratore cleans up, taking advantage of a good warm bath. He then eats and drinks as only a minotaur can and gets a good nights rest.

In the morning, he dons his armor, checks through his gear and meets the group for breakfast. "Brom will be moving to fast for anything to get a real good shot at him and if it does he comes back to us, he land nearby form up and go pound the thing."

Emrys prepares his spells like he normally does. He reaches into the shadow plane to extract a drop of woldsblood. It's power infuses him with energy. He then begins his rituals with the help of Daemon.

He performs the Ritual of Warding (Survival: 24, success. Emrys and Daemon get a +1 to AC and Saves.)

Emrys then stares at his hands (Guide bloodwitch ability), granting himself a +2 insight bonus on his next skill check as he performs the Ritual of Spiritual Healing (Heal: 39, success. Cure spells use d12's instead of d8's.)

He decides not to tempt the fates by trying an Advanced Ritual with only Daemon. The repercussions would be quite undesirable.

When the Keepers are ready to go, he will go through the same painful process that he did the day before by casting Surrender Blood. This time his hand contorts into a ghostly gnarled claw which he rakes across his chest. Emrys turns pale once again from the wound while he uses his own lifeforce to empower his next spell (casting his next spell at 18th caster level, while inflicting 15 points of damage on himself.)

Ermys then casts Windwalk on himself and everyone in the group (Duration: 18 hours). He then casts two Cure Light Wound spells on himself. (Reroll 1's with Cure spells, house rule. 1d12+5 = 10, 1d12+5 = 11.)

"Do you all wish another divination before we head north?" If not, they take the 30 seconds it takes to mistify and off they go like a leaf on the breeze.

(addendum) Before they go in the morning, Tishe' takes some time with the items that the Manfri, Mahyawu, provided the heroes: the ritual book and the pan pipes. "I think we need to make plans for when we find the pure crystal and get it to the center with the other eight groups of heroes in the Wold. We'll need someone to read the ritual, someone else to light the insense, another to play the pipes, and another to set the crystal. At the same time, I'm certain the creator of the Bloodweed will be trying to stop us and so the rest of us will need to guard the ceremony."

Answering Barratore about repairing the ship, he answers, "I thought about it last night and their might be a way. As you know, I'm well verse in polymorph magic ... recently I've figured out ways to polymorph objects as well. It may be possible to polymorph the wrecked ship into a fully functional one. However, Im not for certain that this transmutation would include such things like sails, rigging, anchor and so on ... Ive simply never tried it before. While I do believe that our knowledge of Engineering would definitely aid in this transformation."

"Agreed Tishe', but if 4 of us have jobs in the ceremony, that only leaves 2 to defend. We may have to cross that bridge when we come to it, and see what challenges we have at that time."

"I think we can check a few more groves before throwing another divination Emrys. If we haven't found anything by the next time we are ready to use the mansion, that would probably be a good time to cast it."

V waits until everyone is ready to turn to mist and move out, and joins them.

{ooc: Forgoing my normal recap as I am picking up a little late. Busy day.}

The team makes their preparations for the day and prepares to exit. OUtside the mansion it is still dark but will get light within an hour or two. As the days, the nights seem longer.

Various buffs are applied and the team is converted to a mist form and they move out. The closest grove of densely packed trees does not take long to arrive at, further on you can see a slightly larger in the distance and beyond that one that mostly likely is even larger.

The closest stand of trees is extremely densely packed and it is easy to see that, due to the thick canopy observation of what, if anything, is inside will not work from that vantage. At a lower level things are tightly packed, at least at the outermost level, and would take some work to get though. Of course, you are mist.

Though the day is young it should be possible to check more than one grouping in a day if desired, again if they are empty

Tishe’ casts her Endure Elements spell on Edson and herself, then casts her daily Detect scrying spell to be aware of anyone less than an immortal watching them, then turns to a mist and follows the plan.

She speeds with the group to the next grove to the north and waits with the others at a safe distance while in mist form while Brom (also still in mist form) to do a sweep of the dense grove. When Brom comes back, Tishe’ follows his directions to either be led in, led to a safe outskirts location to change, or be led north to the next grove.

Brom does his thing at each copse of trees. He comes in doing several flybys and then moving in for closer inspection. If he finds nothing, he returns to the others and signals for them to continue. Otherwise, he will signal land and move to the place he has determined is a good place to land.

Tishe’e cast spells to allow for resistance to elements as well as to keep away prying eyes before turning to mist and traveling with the others. Barratore states his preference for guarding the bulk of the group before likewise turning into a much bigger cloud of mist. Velarin likewise prepares and take on the form of mist.

With the others ready Brom assumes a similar state and they begin their examination of the clumps of trees. The others wait while Brom moves though this first dense group of trees. He search is thorough but does not come up with anything that is not in keeping with the area they have seen. It is of note that the grass does not extend into this area.

Approaching the second grouping of trees it is clear that this area is even denser then the first with limbs both low and high making travel difficult for beings of less power and ability then yourselves. The bold Brom again traverses the air between the branches, flowing and shifting in his gaseous form. There is a moment of concern as a crash is heard but investigations show it to simply be a branch that cracked from the weight of other vegetation.

Again, on the move the group heads to the largest grove they have seen. This large stand of trees breaks monotony of the grass some distance away. It is hard to judge with few landmarks but it could be several miles of travel to get there.

The closer the get the more unusual this forest is. It would appear that the area is roughly circular, maybe a quarter mile in diameter. Like the others this forest looks very dense and at least forty feet tall. Closer still it becomes no more normal looking, even form a distance you can see that it would take substantial effort to pass through the underbrush. If possible, it is far from practical and anything passing though would clearly be damaged by various thorns and spikey bits. No animal noises can be heard nor is there any movement detected, most likely a testament to the aforementioned thorns and spikey bits.

When the gaseous group is roughly twenty yards away there is a shift. A section of the trees seems to shift to the side leaving what would appear to be a path of some sort. The trees and brush do not walk like a treant but instead just sort of part revealing deep rich soil.

Tishe’ breezes on with the others, happy the Endure Elements is keeping the heat of the day off the group, even in gaseous form! She smiles and strokes one of the trees in the first grove, the druidwood groves seem to retain thier affinity for repelling Bloodweed just like regular Grasses!

Two groves down and Brom hasn’t seen anything. When they approach the third grove and it opens a path for them; she shrugs her ignorance at the others, and waits for Velarin, or more likely an impetuous Brom, Barratorre, or Edson, to make a decision for them!

The travel north is uneventful, a little boring for Brom's liking. The last and largest forest, if you could call it that, was a mass of thorny vegetation. Brom moves around looking for a way to pierce the thorny veil of the copse. Then unexpectedly the thorns part as if to invite the gassy group in.

Brom lands and takes solid form. "It's be rude to ignore an invite." He says drawing his sword and entering the forest. Note: His sword is drawn, but kept with point down to see less aggressive.

Emrys doesn't want to leave the barbarian alone and solidifies with him in this unusually dense and wonderfully magical forest. Being a forest-born (and Forest Walker), finds the place a breath of fresh air compared to the grassy desert of the Sargrass. Emrys is no stranger to magical forests ... in fact Culverwood is his patron ... and he looks about to see if things 'feel' familiar to him.

Barratore watches Brom land and solidify. It was such a simple plan that even he could remember it. the fighter drops down and also solidifies with Emrys and Brom. "Aren't you supposed to fly in and give it a once over?"

Upon hearing the explanation, Barratore chuckles, "And you and I are all about not being rude." Barratore leaves his weapon sheathed and gestures for Brom to lead the way. "I'll take up a position in..." he stops and shakes his head, smiling he simply says, "I'll be last in line"

"It's kind of funny how, as often as not, an invite is also a trap. Let's keep an eye on the canopy as well. Normally I would go airborne here, but I think the trees will make that problematic, and possibly more dangerous then staying on the ground. Having had a moment to process the moving of the trees you can see that the area that opened was the only area that had some small red flowers. As the trees moved, the flowers have disappeared, mostly like behind the dense trees.

Seemingly happy for the diversion from the planned travel method Brom lands and solidifies. Barratore does the same but with a bit of a chastising for Brom for breaking from the plan. Emrys solidifies as well not wanting to be left out and enjoying the idea of a magical forest, it feels like home.

Velarin, also comes out of his gaseous form and comments on how an invitation is so often a trap in the Wold. Tishe’ follows the lead of the others and approaches. {ooc: I will let you decide if you solidified in your next post.}

Emrys Highlight to display spoiler: { Combined with overall knowledge you can guess that his area has been an enclave for druids for many many years. Isolated and without communication it is unclear what the forest contains. You can deduce that the forest is under some powerful enchantments not the least of which is permeant Plant Growth. }

The path is roughly ten feet side, give or take in places, and the floor is rich dark dirt. Above the canopy is unbroken though enough light filters though that it is not difficult to see. Initially the path only extends thirty feet in but as you approach it extends further. In front of you it opens into a wider clearing and a glance behind will show that the way you came has closed, you are inside of the magical woods.

As soon as the trees open onto the clearing three arrows whistle one of which thinks into Broms forearm. {To hit: 34 | 21 | 15 Damage: 9 piercing +1 Fire = 10} and a blast bursts from a point in the middle of the path briefly engulfing both woods and party. All {Fireball: 31 Damage to all DC18 Reflex to half}.

Inside the room are three human size figures, not treants and not humans but some mix of the two. Their skin made of wood or plants with green clothing of oversized leaves.

The figure on the left holds a flaming staff and, on the right, a flaming sickle. The one in the middle appears to hold an ornate bow made of a finally carved branch of wood, still containing leaves and possibly a flower. The trees and vegetation around you was not affected by the fire.

A single voice on two frequencies, low and high speaks.

“Flesh things. This is our domain, our protectorate. You should not have come.”

Emrys grits his teeth as he dodges most of the damage from the burst of heat. "No, not this time!"

He mutters a few words of power that emboldens his range of influence over hermits and recluses ... and a deeper understanding of loners and outcasts.

Emrys steps out 10-ft in front of Brom. His flesh becomes wooden bramble of thorn, his hands look carved from spiked hickory (free action, Bramble Armor, Wooden Fists: Plant Domain su abilities.). He stretches out his arms as he guards Brom from anymore arrow. For the moment, Emrys is more plant than flesh ... like their attackers.

The arrow strikes Brom followed by an explosion of flames and Brom, who managed to partially shield himself from the blast, brings his weapon up quickly searching for a target to destroy. Before he can move, Emrys steps out in front and does some magically thing. Brom delays his action to see the outcome of the Witch's actions. If Emrys's actions fail, Brom will charge the bow wielding opponent.

Velarin sidesteps the majority of the fireball damage(reflex 30). "If these guys are throwing fireballs in here, it's likely that everything in this place is immune or resistant to fire. Including them."

V watches Emrys move forward and change form in order to try and broker a peace. Tishe’ ducks and avoids most of the blast, and thinks Emrys is onto something based on the shouts from the three defenders. “A Manfri sent us, and we were aided by a Druid some miles to the south. The Saar has marked me as a Spellweaver and in dedication to the preservation of this land! We have come not to harm the Sargrass, but to save it and the Wold!” Tishe’ hopes the defenders of the grove can sense her motives are true.

Emrys starts talking and while his tone is somewhat convincing it will take far longer then a simple sentence to dissuade any attackers.

Brom, knowing that trying to talk them out of combat is impractical at this point, charges the archer and lands a substantial blow. {Hit: 37 | Dam: 41}

Enjoying the idea of being in a magical forest Barratore takes the time to look around until arrows and fire fly. Seeing that the battle is inevitable he charges the staff wielder connecting with his charge. {Hit: 21 | Dam: 29}

Side stepping the fire Edson launches three arrows at the bow wielder. One of the three connect and it does very little damage. {ooc: Please update your HP, it’s not that much work.}

Also avoiding a good deal of the blast Tishe’ chimes in while preparing a spell to counter what is cast next. Something is a little off and she knows her attempt to counter will be to no avail.

Velarin, hopes to no avail to avoid combat so simply casts haste on the party.

The multi tonal voice again comes from your adversaries, all of them speaking at the same time but with one voice.

Finally, the creature holding the sickle, takes a small step, raises her arms and chants a short phrase “Vlam!” As soon as her arms come down a vertical column of divine fire slams down around Emrys, Velarian, Tishe’ and Edson {Flame Strike Damage 27, DC19 for Half}

Tishe’ looks incredulous as her counter weaving fails. “That’s never happened before?!” And then a flame strike hits her squarely, force and fire slamming her about. “Ow!”

Knowing some of her friends are less hearty than her own Sargrass upbringing, and so touches Emrys with a Quickened Resist Energy (fire), then touches Velarin with another Resist Energy (fire). She assumes Edson’s uncanny rogue abilities will be able to dodge spells like that all day, and she is tougher than her other two friends!

Daemon is hypnotic to watch. The way he moves seems so unnatural, yet beautiful to behold. From both the fireball and the flamestrike, he is miraculously dances around all the flame unscathed. If only Emrys could do the same (Emrys takes 13 damage).

Emrys recognizes the feeling of Tishe's spell and he gives her a nod and a smile ... however that expression goes cold and dark when he turns back their attackers. He steps forward 15ft so that he could see everyone involved. Daemon moves with him, staying within reach but slithers in front of his master. He says in a grim tone, in a way that feels dirty upon the ears, "Very well then ... we'll tear the shade from your bodies and feed it to the light! Ahhh, how savory, like blood itself!"

A dark, necromantic aura bellows around Emrys as he hisses the words ... then black, eldritch energies crackle around each of the creatures.

(Emrys casts Mass Painstrike on each creature, empowered by Focus Curse. He wants to target all three, but if he can't he's more concerned with Staff and Sickle. Fort Save: 28. Their bodies become racked with agony, Sickened condition, and take 1d6 nonlethal damage for the next 15 rounds. Casters are suffering a continual damage effect and must make concentration checks when casting spells. Emrys gets a +4 circumstance bonus on Intimidate checks.)

If a viper could smile a wicked smile, he is right now. He rises up and with full hood and fangs exposed, dripping with venom; he shows them all what true fear looks like.

Tishe’ worrying about her companions casts a spell protecting Emrys and Velarin.

Barratore holds his ground and is incredulous that the staff wielder has held her ground. For her part the staff wielder is incredulous that Barratore things she is male. He connects with two of his attacks. {57 Damage}. She weathers the storm and seems to be able to take quite the beating.

Brom, a rage, steps to the archer and swings four times, connecting with two. {83 Damage} The archer is in very bad shape but still standing. [b] Edson also embeds two arrows in the archer but they seem to do little to no damage.

Keeping his distance Velarin calls forth a bolt of lighting that lashes out at all three of the attackers. None of the attackers can avoid the damage and both the staff wielder and bow wielder are killed by the blast.

Dameon fixes the caster with a terrible gaze and the creature appears to be quite shaken by the stair. {ooc: well this is OP for a companion.} Despite his companions help Emrys spell cannot quite take ahold of the sickle wielder. {Fort: 34}

The final creature speaks before again casting a spell. “You may defeat us but we are not all that protects our charge.”

Again her arms go up and she calls down a flame strike centered squarely on Barratore this time. {Flame Strike Damage 40, DC19 for Half}

Barratore gets a twinkle in his eye as it appears the fight is going to be a bit more than he originally thought. His shoulders drop as V's spell lays two of the opponents low. Flames erupt about him, but again the minotaur is able to protect himself from the harshest of the flames.

Trusting in Barratore Brom and Tishe’ does not press the attack but takes a moment to look around the area. Brom & Tishe’ only Highlight to display spoiler: { While the majority of the surrounding forest is fairly uniform greens and browns there is one section, to the north east, where a few small red flowers can be seen. } Tishe’ also she ups her personal protection from fire.

Likewise assuming Barratore will finish the battle quickly Emrys take a moment to heal himself from his injuries.

Velairn smiling as two of the tree people fall to his lighting mildly taunts the remaining while he prepares to try and counter whatever the creature casts next.

Having avoided the brunt of the most recent flame strike Barratore quickly moves to attack the last of the female tree people. His blade cuts deep but the creature does not so much as falter from the blow. Edson again fires off two arrows, both of which hit but do no damage.

The creature takes a quick step away from Barratore and begins to cast a spell but Velarin manages to counter her attempt using his own arcane powers. {ooc: well poop} Dark sap runs from her open wounds but she stands defiant against the group.

Emrys winces after witnessing the barrage of attacks on the plant creature. He still feels pain from the critical blow dealt to him by Barratore when he was occupying the Purple Worm. As he looks away from the assault, he notices that Tishe seems to have several wounds that need mending. He walks over to her, followed by Daemon, and speaking words of healing and touches her arm. All her wounds heal almost completely.

Tishe’ gives a “shady pick!” shout to Velarin, and sighs as Emrys’ healing magic flows over her. She starts humming a childhood song her mother would sing as she moves closer to observe the red flowers and see if there is any magical properties or if she can discern if they are a threat or opportunity.

Barratore steps into the tree woman and swings several mighty blows. Like Paul Bunyan he brings her down. Emrys provides some more healing to Tishe’ who hums and sings a shildhood song as the energy washes over her.

Velarin readies to cast a defensive spell but when the tree/druid/woman falls he relaxes. Brom seems to have fallen into a trance and just stairs straight ahead unmoving.

Edson’s decision not to attack is rewarded when he sees the final druid fall. He also notices something else. Edson Only Highlight to display spoiler: { To the direct east you see a thatch of trees a little different then the others. Closer examination makes you think that something is being concealed. Finally (thanks to a 38!) you can see that you might be able to untangle a group of branches kind of like unlocking a door. }

As the final creature falls the forest goes quiet. To the north another path, where some of you saw flowers, has opened but behind you, the way you came, is a virtually impassable wall of forest, thorns and brush. The path appears to travel in for some ways and doglegs out of sight.

Around you are three bodies that truly look like nothing more then a treant / elf hybrid. There weapons; staff, sickle, and bow lay where they have fallen and all are clearly enchanted.

Tishe’ puts in her two coppers worth of an opinion. “I agree. Everything in this grove is either hostile like the elf-treents, or will automatically support us like the grove providing a path. I don’t think there is any in-between here.”

Noting Velarin’s concern over the limited number of Emrys’ spells, she chimes in again. “I also have a Cure Light Wounds wand. Not much good during a battle, but the most efficient way to heal afterwards!”

Tishe’ provides Edson with a quick Guidance spel, giving him a +1 boost to deciphering the tree branch puzzle.

Barratore eyes the new path and motions down it, asking if they should just consider everything to be hostile. Brom wipes the drool from his chin and answers in the affirmative. Emrys take a moment to heal Barratore and agrees that anything they meet will likely be hostile.

Tishe’ and Velarin looks over the weapons and quickly realizes that all are +3 Flaming weapons. Emrys gives Brom a little booth in health as the group moves towards the open path. The trees open before them to another large clearing, nothing can be seen in this room but a chest rests near the center. Perception DC20 Highlight to display spoiler: { There appears to be a pit, 10ft wide crossing the ground in front of you from tree to tree. }

Edaon examins the unusual bit of trees he discovered and can see that there is indeed a trap. From the looks of it if not done correctly the branches will burst outward striking and flipping whoever is in front into the air.

Hearing the identification of the bow, Barratore turns to tell V to give it to Edson. Seeing Edson not with the group he scans about, "Where'd he go?" Soon enough, surely, he learns Edson stayed back to check something out. "Let's not go forth on multiple fronts if we don't have to."

With that, Barratore turns back from the new clearing to be with Edson and assist with whatever it might be that he has uncovered. Hopefully it will be a dragon or something just as exciting.

(Chris, the staff is more expensive because it's a double-headed weapon. Each end has a separate +3 flaming ability. Each end doesn't need to be the same ... the other end could be frost, for example.)

"The sickle is an implement of the harvest ... I like the idea of possessing such a reaper. At least to hold on to for the time being ... see how it feels." He takes hold of the curved blade if no one objects.

Hearing V's observations from above, Emrys tries to take a look from the ground. "Maybe another divination is in order?"

Barratore, noticing Edson is not with the group turns back to check on the rogue. Brom thanks the others for the healing but tells them not to worry about minor cuts and scrapes. He seems a little bemused by something as simple as a pit and questions how the others would like to proceed. Scanning the area, form his vantage point, Brom sees no immediate threats just a chest sitting on a tree stump.

Tishe’ claims the staff thining it may come in handy and waits for the others to work out the pit. Emrys claims, at least for the moment, the sickle liking that it is an instrument of the harvest. Satisfied he wonders if another divination is called for.

Velarin notices a trap in the dark earthen floor and informs the others. He scans the canopy of branches above and sees no threat and so flies up to take a look. In the air he can clearly make out the outline of the pit directly in front of them. {added to map}

Edson, at the back of the group attempts to disable whatever trap has been set into the wall. Moving the branches slowly he finds the trigger and disables the most violent part of the trap. Once disabled the branches move our of the way immediately revealing an open box containing five gems, two potions and a long silver dagger. {ooc: The box would have been locked and trapped but giving you both for the nat 20 disable device}

How will you all proceed.

Barratore hands Edson the flaming bow, "Here and well done. Grab the goods and let's catch back up to the others. With that, Barratore turns and rejoins Brom at the front.
"As fun as it would be to watch you jump the pit onto some great catapult and flung off into the woods, how about this."

"This looks to be right up rogue's alley. I say we stand back and let Edson do his voodoo."

Barratore will stow his shield, sheathe his sword and draw his bow and ready to cover Edson should something unsavory appear

Brom and Barratore watch the rogue do his rogue things to the long pit but remain armed in case things go wrong. Brom questions what the rogue found in the previous area.

Edson returns to the others and examines the pit. It takes a moment of work but he figures a way to disarm the pit by jamming the hinge mechanisms. You probably wouldn’t want to stand on it and jump but it should get you over the trap.

Emrys casts detect magic and has Daemon keep his nose open for any threats. Emrys Highlight to display spoiler: { The forest itself glows with a faint elemental magic, probably indicative of its resistance to fire and rapid growth. }

Velarian holds, twenty feet in the air, and keeps his eyes open for future threats. From this position {ooc: giving you a bonus} he sees two additional pit traps but they are arranged in a way that you can simply avoid them unlike the first.

The chest is cracked open and contains a small bag. Once the bag is lifted, it is light but there is a small object and a piece of paper inside. As the bag lifts from the stump you here a click, probably the pits locking in place, and the forest to the south east parts revealing another path. At the end of the path there is a veil of swirling mist.

Inside the bag is a small whistle and a note saying Blow once and leave. Once and the magic is done. Detect magic shows the whistle is infused with conjuration magic.

Onward or just blow the whistle to leave?

(Sorry, I slept through the entire evening as soon as I got home.)

Emrys can see that the entire forest around them has the faint glow of elemental magic. Possibly what is giving it it's resistance to fire. He can also tell that the trees are affected by a rapid growth. He lets the others know this.

If he is able to safely get within range of the swirling mist, he will attempt to detect its magic, if there is any to begin with. He knows several mist spells and he is well aware of their danger.

"That is a bit of a quandry. The author of the note definitely wasn't big on details. Blowing the whistle could be a trap, or it could be the way to the crystal that we seek. It may open some sort of gate to another place, or open a path in the woods for us to follow. Either way, it sounds like a one time thing, and with the swirling mists that just appeared, it may be here and now or never. I'm thinking we need to blow the whistle, and follow the misty path."

Tishe’ examins what was found in the other room and finds they are 2 potions of Cure Serious Wounds and a +3 Bane (elemental) Dagger. {ooc: The dagger is worth 32,302gp and the five gems are worth 5000gp each}

Brom thinks the group should press on and Tishe’ agrees since they do not know if the item they seek is here or not. Barratore also wants to press forward but wonders out loud if the whistle will remove them from the grove or the area.

Emrys explains what he has found about the forest being magic which gives it the resistance to fire and rapid growth. The also examines the fog but it does not seem to be magical in origin.

Velarin is perplexed by the whistle and suggests following the path and blowing the whistle. Two things that may well be diametrically opposed.

{ooc: Ok, my note was vague. It should read the following: “Blow once and leave this forest never to return. Once and the magic is done.” }

Edson, like many of the others, does not want to risk bowing out early and so the party presses on.

As the party moves forward the mist hangs lower and lower. Finally, at the start of the room the mist hangs on the ground, no higher than a humans knee. The ground, hidden but the fog, becomes more uneven and your feet snag on roots or rocks below the low fog. {ooc: This room is difficult terrain.}

Stepping forward from the fog on the far side of the room is one single huge creature. This creature looks much like an animated sculpture of a treant. It has a thick, corrugated hide of bark like stone, with many thick stone branches. Its legs, made of large shaped stone connect with great weight as it moves.. What passes for a face is carved out of the same stone as the rest of the body.

Velarin comments that introducing themselves would likely be pointless. In leu if introduction he bolsters Barratore with some fancy defensive spells {ooc: Barratore please note that I will not adjust the damage that is for you in tracking}

Brom strides forward and readies an attack should the behemoth approach while Edson moves to a position in which he could flank the creature.

Barratore, seeing the strategy, fires off a series of arrows, three of witchy hit causing damage and bring forth small jets of acid from the wound. The acid falls harmlessly into the dirt and quickly goes inert.

Sounding like a moving mountain the stone treant lumbers forward and takes a single swing at Brom who connects with a preemptive strike as the creature moves in. {Broms attack hit} As Broms adamantium weapon strikes home a gout of acid sprays from the wound at Brom. {14damage | Relex DC20 to half} The creature completes its swing crunching one of its stone branches/arms into Brom. {Hit: 50 | Dam: 29}

Not dumbfounded ... not at all ... at closer inspection the witch is simply caught in a dramatic pause of smoldering intensity.

His eyes transfixed on Emrys, Daemon can only gasp with awe. "Mannn, you are ssso intenssse!"

Emrys finally takes action as he moves forward (E11) behind Barratore. "Maybe this will soften him up," he says with a slight chortle. As he moved, he gracefully takes hold of his Rod of the Quickening. He casts a quickened spell ...

(Casting Quickened Eye of Newt and Toe of Frog. No Save. Emrys receives of piece of matter from the Stone Tree. Stone tree suffers a -2 penalty on saves against Emrys' spells and a -2 on attacks on Emrys.)

each cast spells that the creature seems to have no defense for. First Tishe’ slows the creature to a crawl removing almost all of its abilities to do damage. This is followed by Emrys transforming the behemoth from stone to flesh removing almost all of its defenses. {ooc: well that was two effective spells}

Seizing the new opportunity Brom strikes again, cutting deep into the transformed creature. Again acid sprays from the body of the creature at him. {Brom: 13 Damage, DC20 Reflex to ½}.

Fling above Velarin unleashes a massive bolt of lightning into the now flesh creature who manages to take the blast full in the chest. {Reflex: 20}

Again using his bow Barratore fires five arrows, all of them hit as the creature no longer has its stony hide, doing massive damage. With the final arrow the creature stumbles to the side and falls over dead.

Laying beside the body, they must have fallen off when the creature became flash, you find ten move gems valued at 5000gp a piece.

The passage behind you, as has become habit is close. In front of you, to the south is another passage that quickly turns east.

Emrys stands back in stunned silence at what he just saw. "Indeed," he answers Tishe. "Likewise, you're spell was also well placed." Daemon keeps glancing back and forth between the monster and Emrys. "In all my livess, I never ssseen anything likess that," hissed the viper. The snake begins to wonder if there was any difference between the two. "That was the first time I cast that spell," the plainly states.

The fleshy treant looked grotesque ... sickening, in fact. Like a many-fingered severed hand ... a very misshapen and diseased hand to be precise. The flesh still undulated and bled where it fell ... bubbling in a soup of its own acid blood. Emrys almost felt sorry for it ... it was a treant after all. At least it's returning to the earth from which it came.

He walks over to Brom and touches his shoulder ... a wave of moist, healing energy courses through him and heals his wounds. Somewhere in a distant land, a blackthorn bush withers.

Noticing that Tishe was examining the gems, he asks, "Find anything interesting?"

Velarin nods appreciatively as he watches their opponent fall much more quickly than anticipated. Perhaps they were beginning to become a good team. Knowing what the others would do in most situations, and planning on that happening. Well....except for Emrys, who could pull some crazy stuff out of his magical hat.

V flies down and collects the gems from Brom after Tishe' takes a magical look at them, and then adds them to the group treasure haul in his bag of holding.

"Well, it looks like we are going that way. Shall we?" V falls into the middle of the line.

Brom's moment of disappointment is quickly over and he lifts his head, proudly. There was another path and other chance for glory. He turns to Barratore, "No more disappointment. I know the battle we seek'll be at the end of this journey. Somethin' that'll test our mettle to it's greatest. These battles are just warm-ups fer that. I know it." He says.

Brom sighs as the creature falls to the ground, dissolving in its own blood, before picking the gems to move to the next opening. Barratore stows his bow a bit disappointed before moving forward to what he calls another path to glory.

Tishe’ comments on the great use of a spoell by Emrys before checking to see if the gems are magic, they are not. Emrys likewises comments on Tishe’s effectiveness. Deamon is surprised by the spell reducing the creature to a bubbling mass of flesh while Emrys almost feels sorry for the creature.

Velarin collects the gems from Brom while thinking the team is getting better at working toether. He falls in line with the others moving on. Edson is a bit surprised that the creature died so fast that he did not really get to help. {ooc: The GM is also surprised by that.}

As the party pushes forward though the ever shifting forest they move first south, then east then loop north. The forest again opens onto a large clearing, bigger then any you have been in so far. As with the others the canopy of branches and leaves above creates a sort of ceiling roughly 40ft above the ground.

Hanging in the air in roughly the center of the room is a floating crystal that emits light very similar to the light initially seen in the craters back in Cinnamon Valley what must seem like quite a while ago.

The crystal does not appear over large and does not hurt the eyes as the meteor did. It hangs roughly four feet above the ground with no visible suspension and has an almost translucent quality.

"I would suggest that Edson lead the way with Brom and Barratore behind him as he checks for traps. The rest of stay here with spells ready to assist when it turns ugly. Because it probably will."

Assuming that the time remaining on the original haste is getting low, V calls forth his extend rod and casts another extended Haste spell upon the group. "Might as well make sure everyone is ready." Brom steps forwards and holds his hand up. "Don't cast yer spell yet, V. Give me a sec. I wanna see if somethin's been here." Brom scans the area for the smallest signs of any creatures passing through the chamber and in what numbers is possible. Perception DC 40 (Brom has survival, but perception is higher. Note: Brom is not moving into the area. This is being done at a distance; so, I am aware that penalties may result from the distance.)

Tishe’ walks through the aware forest with the Keepers, but the woods creep her out: she is much more used to the open spaces of the Sargrass! She keeps a tight hold of her new double-ended flaming staff and keeps her awareness peeled, especially to her Detect Scrying spell.

Once at the clearing, she states the obvious because no one has yet done so. “Well, that’s looks like the Crystal the Manfri sent us to find!” Yet, discretion is the better part of valor, or so Trellus always said, and Tishe’ keeps alert for any other defenders of the Crystal. “I wonder if this isn’t protecting these woods, and if we take it, the woods will die. Like as soon as we touch it, everything will try to smash us.” There are many scenarios running through her head, and nervousness makes Tishe’ full the void with words.

Emrys looks over the scene and agrees with Tishe about the Crystal. He then tries to recall the instructions the Manfri gave them, including the tools he sent them with.

He looks at the anchor crystal to gauge its size. He knows that the book contains a ritual to kill off all the bloodweed, but he tries to remember what the panpipes were for (I don't recall if their function was ever explained.). The crystals are sensitive to sound ... he wonders if the music of the panpipes will resonate a tone the crystals favor.

Emrys takes the steelgrass panpipes from his bag and looks to the others if he should attempt a simple note or two. He's not a musician ... if only the Muse were here ... however, how hard can it be?

Seeing the floating crystal Velarin points out that it is most likely a trap and suggests that Brom, Barratore and Edson lead the way.

Brom is sure at Velarin does not act to fast and looks for signs of previous life. He scans the floor and while it is uneven he sees no tracks or traces of passage. Barratore stays near Brom while the others study the situation, he also notices nothing of passage or life but between he and Brom they can see that the crystal seems almost ethereal.

Tishe’ suggests that this may the the crystal Manfri sent them to find and postulates that it may have been protecting the woods with its presence. Emrys agrees with Tishe about the crystal and thinks back to the instructions they were given. He suggests the pan pipes but somehow things they are not part of this equation at the moment.

Edson scours the area for trap but does not see anything that will drop out, snare or that is otherwise set to injure the party.

Satisfied those that planned to move forward do and get much closer to the crystal unmolested. The closer they get the more beautiful the crystal appears and it seems to create a sort of shimmer in the air on each side of its location, again the sight is simply breathtakingly beautiful.

Barratore grins a bit as he takes in the remarkable beauty of the crystal. Barratore turns back to look at Emrys, who now has the pipes. the fighter almost reaches out to touch it, to see if he can and to see what might happen if he does, but he decides against that and steps just to the side of the crystal, perhaps 10' way and gestures for Emrys to play.

(As far as the manfri items are concerned, I don't recall who grabbed what ... except Emrys took the ritual book, because of his extensive experience with ritual magic. I don't remember the instructions; they were never clear to me in the first place ... I may have missed that post. I was hoping that Emrys' memory would be jogged. His intelligence score is higher than mine.)

"Agreed, we should be prepared for the ritual. I was confused as to when the proper time to perform it. I was quite overcome with emotion when the ritual was first discussed ... crushed from sundering of my walking stick by Gargul. How ironic, Gargul's weapon of choice is a walking stick, and yet ... but I digress."

"I can provide deafness, like before, if we need it ... in various forms. I can also gift the one who wishes to handle the crystal with various wards ... such as Death Ward."

After learning that Barratore is the grabber, he casts few wards on the minotaur.

He then casts a very powerful ward of the three warriors of the group. He grants each one with protection from spells. He does so by handing each one a single gem ... the ones they recently found.

"Hold on to these gems ... they are now talismans that will protect you from spells and spell-like abilities. Put them in your pocket or something ... keep them on you."

{ooc: I will look back to find the ritual later today, I am sure it is in past posts that are available. Had to write this post twice, internet ate the 1st.}

Barratore first suggest that Emrys try playing a note but his idea is overridden by the others.

Tishe’ points out that the Manfri was quite clear about not doing the ritual until the crystal is found. Instead she decides to lay out the ritual if it is needed. Emrys agrees and helps lay out the ritual confessing that he was overcome with emotions and did not catch all of the instructions. Once complete he casts Death Ward on Brom.

Velrain likes Tishe’s plan but has not silence spells at the ready and raises a concern about lighting the candle. Emrys agrees to handle the candle if needed.

Brom volenteers to be the grabber of the crystal as his skill with the arcane is limited at best. Trying to lighten the mood Edson offers to take up the mantel of Brom the Barbarian should something bad happen to him.

With the plans set Brom reaches out and grabs for the crystal. His hands do not meet the resistance that you would expect and pass though the crystal. As if it is a trigger of some sort the crystal glows and becomes embedded inside one of the two massive crystal creatures that appear from thin air in front of the party. These creaturs made of quartz, earth and crystal stand nearly 13 feet tall with powerful arms and razor sharp claws that glint and shine like polished steel. Its large rounded head supports two sunken crystalline eyes and a gaping toothless maw.

Know: Planes DC24 Highlight to display spoiler: { These are creatures are Crystallis. Outsider earth elementals of a sort. When damaged they eject crystal shards that strike attackers. }

The creature now containing the floating crystal takes one swing at Brom striking him square in the chest. {Hit: 30 Damage: 19+2 Bleed – Adamantium Weapon}

Tishe’ nods, a short vicious gesture. “We all knew it was a trap, we just prepared for the wrong kind of trap!”

The Spellweaver Studies the creatures, but besides made of crystal, she has no clue what they are. “But they are made of Crystal and Brom is protected from Sonic...”.

Tishe’ moves to the right to get the Minotaur out of her line of attack and uses her arcane sorcery to spontaneously cast an Enlarged Shout with no additional time! The sonic attack can break glass and is much more effective against crystalline creatures than that of flesh and blood!

"When fighting earth ... be like the earth." Emrys begins to speak in an ancient eldritch tongue, invoking the power of the root ... twisting the fabric of space and dimension ... the weird and the wicked. In a dark, echoic tone, "No matter the distance you put between me, you're never out of my reach." Brom feels Emrys' touch on his arm ... from there the barbarian's skin grows rough and tough like hickory, but oddly remains flexible.

Seeing Brom attacked Edson moves forward to a flanking position and attacks with his Kukri. {ooc: Making an assumption there based on the d4 damage} Two of the blow hit causing damage and shards of glass to fly in the immediate vicinity of the creature. Velarin flies to the east and calls forth the lighting at the two newly arrived creatures. {Reflex +13 | +30} The eastern creature takes the bold of lighting square in the face, the second creature avoids the bulk of the damage but it is still enough that the creature explodes in 20ft radius burst of shards. Brom, Barratore and Edson are engulfed in the shards of glass for a brief moment.

Seeing the creature fall Brom steps though the cloud of glass shards and swings at the remaining attacker. Two of his attacks strike true causing substantial damage and again bring forth a shower of sharp shards. {Damge 9 | 6 Reflex DC18 Reflex to avoid EACH}

Emrys thinks about the team and casts barkskin on Brom.

Tishe’ moves to the side and casts a spell, Shout, at the remaining creature. The sonic blast rattles the creature, and like its partner it explodes in a shower of crystalline shards. {ooc: It had 20hp left so even though you didn't roll damage its dead.}

Laying on the ground where the final creature fell is the glowing crystal ready to be retrieved.

Seeing the crystal laying there brings back the memory of your encounter with Mahyawn when you received the book and the quest items.

Then he gets up. “Oooo, I almost forgot, You’ll need these.” Mahyawu hands you a book and a set of panpipes made from Sargrass. “The book details a ritual to stop the bloodgrass. Inside the cover are a few sticks of incense and small pieces of clear crystal, though these a not the one crystal you seek.”

Then he takes a black feather, black as midnight, and lights it with a flame from his hand. It billows into a great, smokey portal. Beyond it you see grass.

“This, this is where you must go to find that which you seek. We all need you to do this. You need you to do this. I believe it is for this that you were born.”

Emrys looks on with a bit of dumbfounded intensity. "Brom, please hurry and take the crystal and gentlemen come back out of that cloud of shards. It can't be good on your eyes or lungs. Try not to breathe it in."

He can't help but feel they over-prepared. "I used one of the most powerful wards in existence on you three and not a single spell was used against you. I feel like I should shoot a spell at you three ... so you could, at least, resist it! I could then rest knowing my magical protection wasn't going to waste!"

Emrys wonders why he didn't see these invisible creatures before with his See Invisibility spell active. He looks around some more, in case there are more invisible creatures left to come. (Perception: 31)

Tishe’ blinks again, taken back by the suddenness of the encounter. “You are right, Velarin, we do seem to be working better together.”

She checks the small crystals and insense sticks to be in the proper position for the ritual, using Prestidigitation to light each of the sticks as the ritual dictates. When they get to the part of the Crystal, she glances over at the elf wizard for confirmation, then looks at Brom. “Now Brom, pick up the Crystal and we all step into the ritual circle.

A barrage of shards fly all about as the constructs are cracked and exploded with every strike and with the final blow. The shards strike Brom more than he can count. He ducks for cover to protect his exposed areas. In the end, Brom stands, brushes the dust off and grabs the crystal. "That was interesting..."

With the crystal in hand he holds it away from the others until he is called for; when it is needed for the ritual.

Emrys laments being overprepared for the conflict and wonders why he could not see the creatures given his preparations. A thought strikes him that they may not have been invisible as much not on this plane of existence until the crystal was touched. Edson puts away his weapon and prepares for what is next. He examines the area but dose not find anything of additional note.

Blinking at the speed in which the creatures were dispatched Tishe’ agrees with Velarin that they are working together. Checking the other items they were given she asks Brom to retrieve the crystal and move close. Velarin lands and wants to start the ritual.

Brom avoids signifigent damage from the flying crystal shards and brushes himself off before grabbing the crystal and rejoins.

Those that think back and have read the book recall that the manfri said you would only need to play the instrument once you have the crystal, and this should return you to your plane.

The book seems to give instructions on what to do with the crystal to address the red weed back on your home plane, and it's likely associated with the meteorite you found it the crater. If fact there seem to be a number of actions that must take place there:

* There will be a need to physically keep the weeds at bay, as it is likely the weeds will try to stop you.
* The incense will be needed, and the book outlines a somewhat complicated way that a nimble character could do this effectively.
*Holding the crystal in the book to the meteorite will set up a discordant resonance field, so someone with strong fortitude should be able to do this well.
* A good performance with the instrument will be critical in keeping the dissonant resonance at bay. including again playing the instrument, touching the crystal to the meteorite.

Other actions may be helpful as well once you are back on your plane.

Emrys looks over the instructions with V and Tishe. He becomes a bit concerned about one aspect of this ritual.

"Does anyone here have ANY musical talent?! It's essential to countering the dissonant resonance!"

An idea crosses his mind ... "Hmm, is it possible to summon a satyr," he muses; uncertain of the full scope of his magical abilities.

The crystalline guardians explode everywhere and it reminds Barratore of the last time he was in a china shop. He keeps his shield raised to protect his eyes and simply trusts V's spell and his full armor to do the rest. in the end, he picks up a few very minor scratches. Peering the top of his shield, he smiles and looks over at Emrys of his minor good humored rant.

"I know how you feel Emrys. I was just getting my blade warmed up there. I feel like I need to keep swinging it as someone to make it worth the trouble of drawing it"

"sounds to me like we play the pipes and go home, and then we are going to be doing the whole big ritual thing. Good point Emrys. I know i have none. Brom can carry a tune and tell a good tale. How do you feel about trying to play a pipe brother?"

Barratore in general thinks we should have a plan BEFORE going back. and by we, he means the smart folks.

"I must say, the thought of summoning a Satyr is quite ingenious. Are you able to? I can summon monster as well, but I'm not sure off hand if any of the standard summoned creatures could play an instrument. I will ponder possibilities."

"From the ritual description, it seems that Edson is best suited for the nimble incense job. Brom or Barratore will need to handle the resonance field. That will leave the rest of us to assist where needed or stop the weeds from reaching the ritual participants."

"Was there an exact spot that the ritual must occur at? If not, we could try and locate an area that's somewhat weed free. Perhaps a rocky outcropping."

With the crystal creatures shattered the group takes a moment to figure out the next step. While doing so they notice several large games shining from the pile of smashed crystal. A quick search reveals that there are twelve gems, green-ish, shining gems that look quite valuable.

Emrys asks if anyone has any musical talent and ponders summoning a satyr to play the pipes for them. Barratore agrees with Emrys earlier statement and laments the speed at which the battle was resolved. He also admits to having no talent with the pipes and suggest a general plan before going back would be in order.

Tishe’ chimes in that, while bard like in some ways, she does not have talent with the instrument at hand. Blushing she seems to like the idea of the Satyr. Velarin seems to like the idea as well, calling it ingenious. He questions if it can be done before laying out an idea for a plan for the ceremony. His idea is:

• Edson dealing tith the incense.
• Brom and Barratore will handle the resonance field.
• The rest protect the others.

Edson agrees with that plan but may be privately worried about his job. Brom also confesses to no musical talent and agrees with the plan. He also gives himself the roll of killing and protecting which should come as no surprise to anyone.

{ooc: Since you are all high level and using “rule of fun” I endorse the idea to summon the satyr in this unusual situation.}

The group has at least the sketch of a plan and a possible way to play the pipes. Around them they can begin to hear the sound of trees crashing in the distance and above them they note that the leaves are turning brown of a matter of minutes. It would appear that without the crystal this forest will be reclaimed by the grass.

Responding to the question about summoning a satyr, he says, "I'm not sure ... but I think I might. I've never tried it before. There is spiteful little one that frequently inhabits my dreams, playing the same annoying song over and over. So many nightmares I have cast upon him ..." his sentence is cut short as he notices a falling brown leaf pass by his field of view. He looks up and spots many more.

"I do believe that our possession of the anchor crystal is causing a Fall of discontent. Shall we return to our hopefully still Living Wold?"

“Still living Wold?”, Tishe’ asks distractedly, then focuses her attention before gathering the inscence and little crystals. “That’s right, we’re supposed to get the Crystal, go back to The Wold, and THEN do the ceremony?”

Barratore agrees with preventing the grass form killing people and is ready to pop back.

Emrys notes the degradation of the forest as he considers summoning the sytre. In his he makes and off hand comment hoping that the world is still living. Tishe and Edson react to this having not thought about what could have happened to their Wold.

Velarin offers that he may be able to summon a Satyre as well if need be and his desire to find where they will make their stand.

Thinking about the instructions in the book you know it is the playing that will first return you to your plane and so he begins the summoning. Pulling from his innate power he calls out but quickly realizes that this attempt is going to fail leaving the group to explore other options.

The forest continues to degrade around the group at an increasingly alarming rate, you can even for the first time start to see gaps in the thick forest walls.

You all remember that the instruction is simply to play the pipe to get home. It does not say play them well that you remember.

(Yes, the ruling in the Black Genie is that Emrys can't summon the satyr because he's a CR4 not a CR5. So the satyr will continue haunting his dreams.)
