Go Forth And Find

DM Mark - Go Forth And Find
Monday March 12th, 2018 12:14:47 AM

Tishe says, ““That is just like all the Manfri I have met; lots of explanation without a basis of knowledge.” Then she summarizes what Mahyawu said and adds a bit more information. This earns her a flat look from the little man. “And that is just like heroes - always think they can do it better. Just remember, when you have that crystal in hand, then you play the pipes. That will take you where you need to be.”

Barratore asks what happens if one of the other groups fail?
“Fail? Do not ask about failure before you even try! And you don’t need to worry about other groups. They’ll worry enough for themselves.”

The group says they need to rest first, and Barratore asks Tishe to share what she knows about the Sargrass.

“Rest? Heroes like you? I already opened the portal! You should be able to rest in the Sargrass plane - it will probably take you a day or two to find what you seek anyway!”

“Worry. Rest. You’re just like the others - cautious and smart. Maab chose you for a reason - I like to think she knows what she’s doing. Go. You need to go.

[If you refuse to all step through the portal, we’ll stop here and take up what happens in the next post. If you step through, continue on...]

As you step through, you see that you are in an area of very tall grasses. And it’s pretty dark - but not totally dark. There seems to be a very low amount of light coming from everywhere. (those with low-light vision can see about 30’) You realize the grassland you saw through the portal was not dim because of the smoky portal, but because it was night. There is the low sound of bugs buzzing and chirping.

It’s warm here. And really, really dry. You can almost feel your lips chap as you stand here. The portal behind you vanishes as the last of you comes through.

Edson doesn't say anything to the others. He just steps through the portal.

He touches his dry lips, then licks them to wet them. He looks around as far as he can see (30'). Perception 33.

He takes out his kuhkri and waits to see who comes through.

"Since it appears that rest will temporarily wait, let us begin." V follows Brom and Barratore through the portal. "Great. Really tall grass. Perfect place to be ambushed. Let's be on our guard."

Once everyone has arrived, and the portal has closed. V offers an option. "I do not think that wandering around in the darkness will accomplish much, especially with Tishe's and Emrys's spells depleted, and as was stated before, rest is needed. I am not thrilled with curling up in the grass and seeing what arrives to play. I have a scroll that should do the trick, but I have only one. Although i could memorize the spell in the morning. The spell creates an extra dimensional haven for rest and relaxation. It should be safe and leave us without worry of unpleasant encounters in the middle of the night. What say you?"

Barratore bristles a bit, "Im not concerned about OUR failure, but I want to know what we will need to do to if someone else does not prevail. I like to think of it as having a plan b and when the fate of the Wold hangs in the balance patting me on the head and giving me a lollipop is a stupid answer." Barratore snorts, turns away and steps through the portal. What the little man thinks is less than no concern to him.

Barratore steps through and the dry heat assaults him as it has the others. "If this is night, I imagine we will be requiring protection from the elements on a constant basis."

Barratore agrees with V, "We simply can't wander around like a bunch of blithering idiots. The extra dimensional haven sounds like a good idea V Conjure that puppy up and lets get some rest"

"Very well."

Emrys takes his haversack and removes a weapon he hasn't used since his old academy days ... a beautifully crafted and ornate darkwood light crossbow and a quiver of bolts. It was made out of darkwood because he wasn't strong enough to carry it otherwise. "We may need your assistance, old friend." He places broken pieces of his walking stick within the secondary pouch of the quiver.

He then makes sure the items the Manfri had given were not forgotten and heads through the portal.

V smiles slightly at Barratore's words. He'd been looking forward to the day he had the necessity to attempt to impress his friends with this spell. Seeing no other objections, V calls forth a scroll from his haversack, and begins casting a powerful spell. Upon completion of the casting, a faint shimmering in the air appears that is 4' wide, and 8' high. V designates all of his companions as able to enter the mansion.

V looks towards Barratore. "The door is large enough for you as well my friend. Shall we?" at that, V walks through the portal. As his friends follow, they find themselves in an enormous foyer, which appears to be Elven in appearance. Flowing fountains and trees are placed throughout, and the trees wrap themselves from floor to ceiling and interconnect. The residence is immaculately clean, fresh and warm. The two level residence has a pair of vaulted spiral staircases leading to the upper floor, and several doors leading off of the main foyer. The railings of the staircase appear to be branches from the larger trees existing throughout the residence.

More than two dozen servants await to do their bidding nearby. "There are more than enough rooms for all my friends. Anything you need, just ask them for" V indicates the servants. "Baths, grooming, food and drink, and anything else you may request that they can accomplish, and also, we shall have a very large banquet once we have had the opportunity to clean up."

V then wills the exterior portal to become invisible.

"Make yourselves at home my friends. Let us clean up, eat, drink, be merry, and then rest my friends, because more bloodshed surely awaits us tomorrow.

V allows the servants to strip him, clean his gear, bathe him, and dress him in casual relaxed clothes for dinner. At dinner, V will ask Tishe' what she knows about the Sargrass, and specifically, V's biggest concern regards fire spells and their use here.

V looks toward Emrys, contemplating his question for him, but decides to hold his tongue. A question for another time and another place. Instead, he eats heartily, and enjoys a very tasty wine.

Tishe’ passes through the portal, a little hurt that the Manfri was incurious to the mandates the Wandering One laid upon her and the Keepers. Still, the same urgency that sent them through the first portal makes it clear they have to go through this one as well. She steps through.

And is prepared for the hot, parched Sargrass. “If the Sargrass remains the same in the Lands of Twilight as when on the Southern Continent, it will be extremely hot come the morning. Oh, and don’t spill any water. When I was last on the ‘Plains, there was no open water at all, and spilled water attracted flesh-devouring insects by the millions.”

She pauses and continues under her breath, “Though I have no clue if the rules I learned are the same now that the Lands have changed.”

Brom also agrees with Barratore. "Ain't there a book or somethin' we can check?" He says before following Edson through the portal.

"Hey, hey, wait up Edson." He says to the rogue.

V drops his mansion. "Hey somethin' a wizard's useful for." He says getting in a jab at V.

DM Mark - A Welcome Respite

You arrive in the warm dark of the Sargrass at night. The long blades of grass, most of which tower over you heads, rustle in the dry breeze. There is apprehension at being stuck in a strange place needing rest.

Fortunately, Velarin has a solution. He pulls out a scroll and reads it. Soon, there is a shimmering rectangle 4 feet wide by 8 feet high appears. Velarin enters, followed by the rest of you, and immediately the warm, dry grasslands fall away to be replaced by an enormous foyer. The decor is decorated in elven motifs. As you move into the area you see flowing fountains and trees are placed throughout, and the trees wrap themselves from floor to ceiling and interconnect. The residence is immaculately clean, fresh and warm. The two level residence has a pair of vaulted spiral staircases leading to the upper floor, and several doors leading off of the main foyer. The railings of the staircase appear to be branches from the larger trees existing throughout the residence.

Velarin tells you that there are rooms here where you can all rest and clean up, for later will be a banquet.

Nearly transparent servants appear, willing to dress and bathe you. They bring fresh clothes, bidding you to relinquish your gear to be cleaned. They offer cool drinks.

Later a meal is served once you are all together. This is all really unlike anything you have seen before.

Along with all of this, you find your spirits are renewed as well. You're not sure if it's this place or something you learned from your encounter with Gargul, but you are now all 15th level! Please put your character at 635,000 XP and add one Hero Point as well.

Tishe’ sighs in relief as Velarin brings forth a magnificent mansion. “Oh thank you!”, she says to Velarin, “I wouldn’t want to impose even more on the Keepers’ Hospitality, but it appears our threads are interwoven for the time being.”

She has no worries or concern about stripping and cleaning both body and clothes in the warm pools. Once clean and dry, she takes all of her equipment out of her extra-dimensional pockets, from her Pants O Plenty, to verify they are ready at need.

Sleep and food follow, and she tries to keep quiet, allowing one of the Keepers to start the planning conversation.

After eating, and prior to sleep, V will speak with the assembled group

"So? Where do we begin? As Mahyawu said, Divinations will speed the process. Emrys? What you got? We need to find this crystal as quickly as possible. When we head out, we need to be ready. Tishe? Do we need to worry about the heat, and have spells prepared for such? I can handle four of us if you can finish the group. Can I cast fire spells here, or will I set the whole place ablaze?"

"I would suggest while traveling, we be a little more strategic. Perhaps Either Barratore or Brom taking point, with flanking positions taken up by Edson and either Brom or Barratore, and us spellcasters in the middle, where we are least likely to be torn apart first?"

Tishe’ looks pleased and smiles, “Why Brom, that’s the sweetest thing to say! Edson has also invited me right after the graveyard fight. If none of the others object, I would love to join the Keepers!”

She nods to Velarin. “I can cast three Endure Elements spells to protect the rest of the Keepers”, then nods to Brom, “but it may not be complete protection. There are two types of dangers in the Sargrass that I knew: the land and the beasts.”

“The Sargrass of my youth was so hot that the middle day of summer would burn through an endure Elements spell. I have told you of the dangers of water. There were many types of Grasses, some more flammable, some less. Many of the Grasses would suppress electric energy. There were also Grasses to weave, to eat, to turn into wine.”

“Then there were the beasts of the Sargrass. The Slug-Piggies we in the town of Rattledam used for food. We fought off the Bounders, leaping rubber ball bodies with two legs, a tail, and a mouth of sharp teeth. The raiders would capture Rapke to ride, very similar to the velociraptor dinosaurs in far-off lands. Herds of Great Ranthoms, like land-whales that eat everything in thier path. And then the Sargrass Moth, as large as a Roc. These were the creatures of the Sargrass, a part of the Cycle of the Plains.”

Emrys is pleasantly surprised and impressed by this feat of magic. It's much like his father's mansion at Culverheart, although it stays empty most of the time now. He gives V a nod of appreciation. He too employs many of the servants to show him to a private room and allow them to undress him and launder his soiled clothes while takes a bath. First time to finally be alone with this thoughts, except for Daemon. His thoughts aren't kind.

"Give me my WINE," he commands one of the servants.

Daemon, also enjoying the bath, says, "I knoow they're only magical constructss but there'ss no neeed to be rude."

Emrys ignores him, like he often does. He gulps the wine down like how a simple dwarf would. While Daemon wiggles on in the water, Emrys just stares off into a void, stoic like a statue, until he slowly begins to crack. As his defenses crumble away he becomes overrun with sorrow. His tears add themselves to the bath as he quietly weeps.

Daemon instantly exits the bath and slithers to the door ... listening as best as he can ... keeping guard. He doesn't want the others to find his master in such a sad state.

-------------------------

Emrys later emerges from his bath, dressed in house robes and rejoins the others in the common room or dining hall ...just in time to hear Brom's unique brand of etiquette so lovingly explained to Tishe. "And don't forget to use your indoor voice, dear Brom! There are pointed ears in the room!"

To answer V about spells, "I should have a wide variety of divinations to work with after my powers are restored. Woldsblood should be richer here, hopefully that is something to take advantage of. The items the Manfri should certainly help. Hopefully that piece of crystal will help focus my search."

The group welcomes the rest and comfort in this place of Velarin’s creation. It’s nice to get cleaned up, and to especially wash off the dirt and the dust and the worm goo.

Tishe is not wanting to impose, and Brom makes it clear that she’s part of the team and needs to stop acting like an outsider. Tishe is honored to be so accepted. Then they turn to her as having perhaps the most knowledge of this place. She offers what information she recalls from her time in the Sargrass.

When divinations are mentioned, Emrys says he is ready to cast such once his spells are renewed.

The group continues to talk of plans into the night. And it’s a pretty nice place to pass the time.

"Now this is a nice bit of magic making V." Barratore states as he enters the mansion. He looks about, taking in the detail the grandeur and not without a good amount of wonder. V was becoming almost like their own private genie. The Minotaur suddenly chuckles at the thought of grabbing the man to rub his head and make a wish. He glances over with a small bit of mischief dancing in his eyes, and then it is gone.

Barratore enjoys the down time, as he always does. A good soaking bath, plenty of food and as much drink as he can without alarming his friends.
Hanging out in the lounge by the fire with everyone, the plans start. V really seemed to love this type of stuff. Planning seemed to bring him almost as much joy as blowing things to pieces through evocational magic. Barratore refocuses to pay attention and pours another drink.
"Well said Brom." Barratore seconds the man's comments to Tishe

"I think Tishe needs to be in a position to help direct our path. Emrys can point the way and she can help us not step into anything nasty, or at least lest us know, by the way if we get jumped around here, no fire spells. If it looks to be as hot as she says, we might also want to think about travel at night and rest in this here fine bit of magic in the day"

V then listens to Barratore. "Thank you my friend. I tried to give this place my own little flair. I will keep one of these memorized each day for our protection against the creatures and the elements."

Following Barratoe's final comments, V closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. "Fire spells are the best of my spell repetoir. Lightning bolts have limited targets, and empowering them is pointless. My offensive capability will be cut in half. had I known in advance where we were going, I would have purchased other spells, specifically spectral hand. But since that is not the case, i will need to adapt as everyone else. I will not cast fire except in dire circumstances, and will take a variety of other spells that may aid in other ways. I am not a fan of traveling at night in this strange land. I foresee a group of very stealthy hunters popping out of the grass at close range and doing very painful things to us. I would suggest we head out at first light, and see if we can locate one or more of these groves of trees. If we can get there before the mid day sun, we can likely spend the hottest part of the day searching the grove. If not, then I will call forth a mansion and we will change to night tactics.

(He is attempting to familiarize himself with the materials.)

He considers which divinations would be best to use the next day. Fortunately, he's figured out a few new ones. He then remembers something Tishe had said about water in the Sargrass.

"Or we could all fly above the grass, like wisps on the breeze."

DM Mark - A Welcome Respite

There is discussion about how to approach the next day. Some suggest travelling at night, others during the day. Brom doesn’t much care how you proceed, so long there’s fightin’. Then Emrys suggests, "Or we could all fly above the grass, like wisps on the breeze."

Edson decides this is a good time to get some rest.

Emrys turns his attention to the book. It’s a curious thing. It seems to outline some sort of ritual. It describes how to use the crystal you seek along with the incense and small crystals in the cover and the pan pipes, and suggests this may somehow affect the bloodweed.

Eventually, everyone follows Edson’s lead and you all have a comfortable rest. When you rise in the morning, you are all treated to a hearty and filling breakfast, leaving you to face the new day.

As you open the dimensional door to the mansion, you find that what you thought should have been a bright, sunny morning is just barely getting to dawn. You could have sworn it was later than that given the darkness you found when you arrived.

Before you is grasslands, with some of the grasses stretching up ten feet or more in height. And now that you can see better, you notice that there is that awful bloodweed growing among the tall grass, along with that sickly sweet smell. Even much of the grass here is red like the bloodweed.

Tishe will tell you this is not right.

Tishe’ is happy with the plans. “The Bloodpack, that was the name of the heroic group, always travelled in the daytime. Of course, most of the time we sailed over the Grass in Druid-Wood ships. Druid-wood repelled the Grasses, and skilled craftsmen built them into great sailing ships to skim over the Grass like a boat on water. But.. (she adds sheepishly) we don’t have that here.”

“I think we should go Walker by day and single file, unless Emrys can use his Mist Walker spell on the six of us? There were few of no ambush predators in the Sargrass, and so we would usually have some warning by the Grasses moving against the wind.” She is happy to walk just behind Brom or Barratorre near the front.

Come morning, the sorceress is worried. “The Manfri list dozens of types of Grasses, but I had never shears of BloodGrass, and now it is everywhere. We need to move both cautiously and quickly.”

Tishe’ casts Endure Elements four times, on herself, Emrys, The Witch’s Viper, and Edson. Then another spell to detect any scrying on the team. While the group gets ready, she gathers healthy Grasses to weave hats for each of the heroes. Then, she is ready to travel.

“We are to be heading to a grove of trees where the anchor crystal is to be hidden. I see no need to travel through the bloodweed infested grasses to get there. I am able to give each of you mist walking abilities, including dear Daemon, but I must surrender a little blood first.”

To give Brom and Barratore some anticipation of combat, he also adds, “I am almost certain there will be some sort of guardian to contend with, so I hope your blades are sharp. This is an artifact we’re after, who knows what’s waiting for us!”

Emrys begins to speak words of power and a ghostly dagger appears in his hand. He then swipes it across his jugular. For a brief moment an image of blood pours from the wound, but it is mostly illusional and disappears … but Emrys becomes rather pale from the effect.

Barratore accepts the hat and stows it. His full plate armor included a helm and he was not going to be taking that off. While normally he would prefer walking, in this case, the Wind Walking spell made a great deal of sense.

Barratore grins a bit as Emrys mentions a guardian and adds, "Better be."

"Edson, keep your bow out and set up flanking with Brom and I. Your accuracy from 25-30 is what we need." Can anyone enhance Emrys' bow with greater magic weapon?

The group discusses and casts some preparatory spells. Tishe also harvests some blades of grass in the pre-dawn light and weaves some hats as the others prepare.

Emrys finds that it is just a bit easier to draw Woldsblood here. He’s not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. In fact, there are a number of subtle effects on spellcasters.
--------------------------------
- Bloodwitches find that the DC to draw woldsblood each morning is 5 less than usual.
- All non BW divine casters gain one new spell or spell slot of the highest level they can cast.
- Non-divine casters with supernatural or spell-like abilities find that the save DC for all these powers is increased by +2.
--------------------------------
Also, as you step out the door of the mansion, those with items made of Sargrass feel a sense of peace and contentment here. You also notice that such items take on a red-tinge and feel prickly.

Emrys casts Wind Walk on everyone, and then settles down to cast a Divination, asking, “We seek the anchor crystal hidden in a grove of trees. Which direction and how far should we go to find this grove?” The answer is, “The trees you seek lie toward the north, as far as you need to go.”

With that, everyone assumes a misty form and takes to the air. Your mist is a bright crimson - which is odd. As you rise into the air, the sun has begun to rise as well, and with it come heat. You fly northward for a few hours. Eventually you see a copse of trees rising above the level of the grass. Several hundred feet away from the trees you see a clearing of sorts in the grasses. It looks like some kind of structure, though it’s hard to tell from this high up.

-------------------

This is odd, he thinks, after discovering that grass has grown within the tree grove. From the stories that Tishe has told, it was his understanding that the trees here repel the grasses. If that were the case, then the sailing vessels would no longer sail atop the grass. Maybe that structure is one of those vessels.

This crimson glow was also troubling, however he couldn't express his concerns to the others just yet, not as a misty cloud. This red glow was similar to how the worm saw the world through it's unique perspective of madness. Oh Light ... is the grass their hats are made from infected?!

Emrys also descends with the group and looks for a safe landing spot either around or upon the wooden structure ... he urgently wants to remove the hat as soon as possible. He will stay with the group and suggest a spot, with signals and gestures. Emrys looks at V and wonders what he is mouthing.

He will solidify once the rest start to do so. First act after becoming a solid again, he will carefully lift the hat off his head ... being sure not to scratch his skin. Thankfully he has a thick head of luxurious hair.

The clearing up ahead and the Brom cloud goes in. Barratore hangs back with the others. Brom would be back soon and simply lead to the best landing spot to reform. He wondered if they knew he was simply scouting it out or if they thought he was just going in to form. Barratore cloud shrugs at his own internal question and waits.

As you get closer to what had appeared to be a structure, you can see that it is large and flat, about 100 feet long and maybe a third of that wide, rising slights at one end. There appears to have been some sort of masts and sails that once rose above it, but the sails are mere tatters and the masts have fallen. The structure is about 10 feet high, with some roofed structure in the middle that rises another 8 feet above that. There are old burn marks here and there on the thing. There is about a 3 foot clearance between the grass and the structure.

Brom circles in mist form, looking for anything suspicious. His sharp eye spots an old skull and some discarded weapons here and there. He also notices that the masts are splintered where they broke.

Everyone else lags back in mist form as the barbarian takes a look. There is a copse of trees several hundred feet away.

You surmise this structure may be some sort of large, flat ship. In the middle is a superstructure with a flat roof, probably some sort of cabin, with ladders from the deck to the roof. There are a couple of fallen masts, and some tattered sails. Old burn marks can be seen here and there that never made it through the wood.

Having looked around, Brom descends onto the flat roof of the structure above the deck and spends 5 rounds coalescing. He scans the area. He can see a skull and a few scattered bones, likely picked over by some scavenger long ago. There are also some scattered weapons here and there, blades of various sorts. In the debris, he notices a couple of hatch covers in the fore and aft of the ship.

Barratore also descends and becomes solid, choosing a place on the main deck.

Emrys examines the vessel. His engineering skill tells him that what he can see of the thing looks sound, and that it does indeed rest on the ground. He can also see that there is no grass growing within about 3-5 feet on any side of the thing. He lands and assumes a more solid form, as does Velarin and Tishe.

Edson follows suit. Taking no chances, he drinks a potion as well. He expects a surprise and he is not disappointed.

Without warning, there is a loud grinding sound as the area all around the ship shakes violently! Rifts open in the earth and then grind closed! Anyone on the ground or the ship need to make a DC 15 Reflex Save or fall prone. In addition, the structure of the ship is now badly cracked and damaged, so treat areas on the boat as Difficult Terrain.

Just after the earthquake, you see four huge earth elementals rise out of the grasslands. At 15 feet tall they are above the tall grasses and red weeds, but they appear to be darkly twisted and deformed. Their faces are drawn into a wicked, leering smile, as their gnarled hands throw rocks at you!

Being the closest target to three, Brom is missed twice and hit once for 22 damage.
Barratore is hit with a crit for 32 damage.

Anyone within 60 feet of these elemental needs to make a DC 18 Will save or be shaken.

With quick thinking and quick feet, everyone manages to stay upright during the earthquake.

Brom drinks a potion.

Tishe and Velarin take to the air.

Emrys casts a spell and with a momentary look of surprise, one of the elemental vanishes. Not to be outdone, Daemon draws himself up in his most intimidating stance and and gives them the full viper! While Daemon is indeed intimidating, he is not within 30’ feet of his foes, and only gets a few sneers in return.

Barratore reacts quickly drawing his bow from and activating his torc. He shoots several times, hitting one of the the elementals three times for 43 damage.

Edson likewise shoots, hitting the same creature Barratore drew on once, but the arrow bounces harmlessly away.

Then, one more elemental (EE3) rises from the ground near the others. The others move up a bit and again throw rocks. Barratore is hit for 19 damage, Emrys is struck for 17 and Brom takes 18 damage.

The one that recently arrived says in a low grinding voice, “You, you are just as the others. You come to take and destroy. You shall die like the others and be trapped here for eternity with me!”

Then that elemental casts a spell, and four things appear on the deck of the ship. They seem to be a mass of roots and vines and dripping slime on two trunk-like legs, reeking of rot and freshly turned earth. They have a red tint to their foliage, and there is a strange, menacing look about them as well. Once again, everyone needs to make a DC 17 Will save or be shaken.

Then the mounds of vegetation strike. Four hits against Barratore miss. Two hits against Brom miss as well.

Emrys is missed, but Daemon is hit for 12 damage, and as the creature’s vines wrap around the viper his s squeezed for another 18 damage.

Tishe’ is shaken from the appearance of the elementals, but the mutated shambles hold no further terror. The appearance of a magic-casting elemental is of special note! “It casts spells?”, she calls incredudously, then a look of instense curiosity comes over her face. “I wonder if it is magical or only using the magic of those it has trapped for eternity?”

With a violent shake of her head, Tishe’ forces herself to the matter at hand, and addresses the new elemental. We want to heal and preserve! We want to help! Let’s stop fighting and talk!”

Negotiations, however, doesn’t stop her from defending the team. She rises another five feet in the air and looks at the Mound that is squishing Daemon the Viper. “They look like Shambling Mounds, so electricity or fire attacks are not shady here!”, she calls to her fellow KeeperPack. “But I’ve got something for that...”

Tishe’ targets the Mound grappling the viper. First, a Sonic Scorching Ray, and then a Quickened Sonic Scorching Ray... six lines of sonic power stab at the monster!

The Spellweaver then turns her attention to the magic-wailing elemental and demonstrates, at least in short bursts of power, a Spellweaver of the Sargrass is unmatched! Tishe’ prepares a Readied Dispel magic to counter the next spell the elemental may cast!

Brom gets pretty mad. These things are hurting his friends. He steps forward and strikes the thing holding the viper. He hits. (For future reference, the damaged boat you are on is considered Difficult Terrain, so moving 5’ will count as a move action.)

Tishe, surprised by a spell casting elemental, tries to reason with it as she finishes the one that Brom attacked. She shouts a warning about these shambling mounds. Then she readies an action to dispel the creature’s next spell should one be cast.

Emrys addresses the elemental in Terran, growing thorns on his skin as he does. Then he casts a Greater Dispel Magic, and one of the shambling mounds disappears.

(The way I read Greater Dispel Magic on this is that it only ends the spell for that target. ”You can also use a targeted dispel to specifically end one spell affecting the target or one spell affecting an area (such as a wall of fire).” “If you target an object or creature that is the effect of an ongoing spell (such as a monster summoned by summon monster), you make a dispel check to end the spell that conjured the object or creature.” I appreciate that there may be an argument that this also ends the spell for the others, but I do not agree with this perspective.)

Barratore quickly stowes his bow and draws his sword, striking a vegetable horror dead. (In the future, Quick Draw does not allow you to quickly stowe or sheath a weapon - that is a different sort of action that normally provokes an AOO. In the future, you will need to drop your bow to quick draw your sword.)

Edson was ready to drop his bow and attack, but he finds the foe nearest him vanishes thaks to Emrys.

The compost pile before Brom almost seems to leer, if it even had a face, as it hits the barbarian for 14 damage. The vines it strikes with fail to grab him though.

The other elementals then move up to attack, triggering Velarin’s lightning. Electricity arcs across two of them, as their twisted smiles become a nightmarish grimace. Nontheless, they strike. Barratore is missed once and hit once for 25 damage. Brom is struck by another rock for 18 damage.

The one elemental (EE3) again speaks in a low grinding voice, as his face holds a sneer of disgust. “You stupid fools. You think I care a whit about these creatures or your intentions? You are all just dust in the wind. Just as I am trapped here, so shall you be.” And with that, he begins to gesture - only to have the spell snatched from him by Tishe’s readied action! “AHHHHHH!”

Tishe’ counters the elementals spell and smiles grimly. ”Perhaps I’m seeing the pattern wrong You care not for what should be but only crave to dominate others in your own twisted image. To set the pattern right, we will have to free you from the corrupting bondage.”. She says the last sadly, wishing there were another way but knowing there is none.

Emrys, however, gave her a good idea, and the Twisted Shamblers don’t seem to be much threat to the melee team. So the Sorceress hovers five feet up and over, then concentrates on Elemental EE4, casting a spell of Dismissal!

Then she turns her attention back the the spell-casting elemental to counter it’s next spellcast.

The elementals were out of his reach, besides, the spell casting power of Emrys Tishe and V seemed to be more than a match and so Barratore focuses' on taking out the last plant thing. From what he was hearing from the earth elemental, the party was not actually facing an elemental, but rather summoned creatures then dominated or possessed by something else. Something very powerful and perhaps the same something behind all of the Sargrass. A Power, a power driven mad and the longer they took to set things right, the more dangerous and strong it would become.

Brom strikes at the remaining shambling mound, hitting it soundly and sending vegetable muck flying.

Tishe attempts to send one of the elementals back to where he came from. The creature vanishes. Tishe then readies herself to undo any spell the other elemental may cast.

Emrys attempts to banish one of the elementals, and it too vanishes from sight. Then he taunts the spellcasting elemental a second time, and throws a curse at the creature.

Velarin hovers, ready to dispel anything cast by the elemental.

Barratore ponders the nature of his opponents as he steps forward 5’ and lays into the elemental before him. He hits the creature 4 times, but the thing doesn’t seem to take as much damage as he thought it should. (He could not reach the plant creature without moving, attacking only twice, and provoking an AOO from the elemental, so i assumed he would instead attack the nearest creature.)

That elemental will strike back at Barratore, hitting him twice for 19 and 17 damage.

The plant creature lashes out at Brom, hitting him once for 18 damage, though it fails to wrap its vines around Brom in the process.

The elemental that spoke before moves forward and fixes Brom with a baleful stare. He takes 8 damage and must make a DC 23 Fort save or also take 4 Charisma damage. (This was not a epell.)

Tishe attempts to send elemental EE5 back to it’s plane. For whatever reason, the thing is still here.

Brom lays into the shambling mound in front of him. He tears into the thing, and the mound of vegetation slumps, motionless.

Edson fires arrows at the nearest elemental (EE5). While he hits a couple times, his arrows bounce harmlessly off the creature.

Emrys casts a spell and a small portion of the creature appears in his hand. It looks to be a rock of some sort. Daemon rears up to his full height, and tries to intimidate his foes.

Barratore lays into elemental EE5. The things slumps to the ground beside the boat.

Velarin watches. Ready to hurl a Magic Missle at elemental EE5, he finds that is not necessary.

The one standing elemental continues to smile a wicked smile. “Though you will soon join me, you shall never have my power.” The he casts a spell, and swarms of centipedes appear on the boat! Those on the boat take:

Tishe shares her thought about the elemental, and then readies a Dismissal spell should it try to cast a spell. As she does so, she again taunts the creature, trying to discern it’s motives. She does sense that the elementals movements seem a bit awkward and out of place at times.

Brom is being eaten alive by the insects. He tries to move forward to attack the elemental, but finds there is some invisible force blocking him.

Emrys and Daemon move out the the swarming things. Emrys asks Edson to join him, but Edson does not respond. Emrys and Daemon disappear to the ethereal plane. (Daemon is a medium sized creature? If so, he would not coil up Emrys’ leg unless I’m misunderstanding.)

Velarin is annoyed at the elemental’s continued spell casting. He pulls out a rod and casts an empowered Lightning Bolt at the creature. It manages to sidestep some of the damage and takes 34 points.

Barratore drops his sword and draws his bow as he moves forward. He shoots at the elemental, but misses.

Edson hits twice, but hit arrows bounce harmlessly off. (Sorry Shawn, but his arrows are not doing any damage because they are not exceeding the creature’s damage reduction.)

The elemental then casts a spell. Tishe’s readied action occurs, but the Dismissal seems to have no effect.

The elemental laughs with a malicious glee that seems to be at odds with it’s grinding voice. “Hee hee hee. Two of you have fled, bothered by my little bugs. Soon, you will all sleep with the worms as I do. Here, let me help you along.” The spell effect he calls forth summons individual lightning bolts that strike all but Emrys and Daemon for 11 damage, DC 22 reflex for half.

The centipede swarms move and attack. Edson, Barratore and Brom all take 11 damage, plus DC 24 Fort Save or take 1 point of DEX damage

She’s unable to dodge and gets a little scorched, the smell of ozone in the air. Hovering, she assessed the lightning the elemental threw, wondering if it was because Velarin cast lightning bolt at the elemental. “Grasses are partially immune to electricity and conducts it!”, she calls to Velarin, “try some fire!”

With only Barratorre and Brom on the ship, Tishe’ can give them some room to work. A Dispel Magic on the swarm around Barratorre is followed up by a Quickened Dispel Magic on the swarm surrounding Brom. And then Tishe’ turns back to the elemental, readying a Counterspell to counter its next spell!

Emrys is both miffed and relieved. He was glad to see the centipedes fall off of him as he melted into the ether. Everything a swirling grey mist, but he can see his friends and foes nearest to him. Their voices like echoes in a rocky chasm (I imagine the effect similar to Frodo putting on the ring from LotR.)

He's annoyed that Edson simply ignored him. However he doesn't dwell on it very long. Time for part two of his plan, until he notices his friends being ripped apart by what looks to be lightning. From here he can only look on in horror. Barratore and Brom are taking too much damage. His plan has to change. Emrys is very vulnerable himself. He wouldn't have lasted another moment in that chaos. He hesitates for a second... then hesitates no more ... "Time for a new plan!" With a sigh, he moves in the opposite direction he was originally planning to go.

(Emrys moves to W-20, behind Barratore. Daemon moves to V-20. No Difficult Terrain in the Ethereal Plane. :)

Emrys takes his Rod of the Quickening and casts a quickened Cure Spell on himself.

(Casting quickened Cure Critical Wounds on Emrys. Empowered by the Spiritual Healing ritual, bloodwitch ritual.. Use d12's instead of d8's with cure spells. Cures 4d12+15 = 46.)

He then dismisses the Etherealness spell, (standard action) and suddenly reappears next to his giant friend, hopefully finding cover from the elemental's perception. Emrys then reaches down deep and painfully forces out yet another spell ... but how can he do that!?

(Hero Point: Get another Standard Action! Casting Heal on Barratore. Heals 150 points of damage ... and a host of other conditions.)

Tishe laments her previous decision. She shouts to Velarin to attack the elemental with fire. Then she unleashes a couple of Dispel Magic spells and the swarms around Brom and Barratore vanish. In thinking about the lightning the elemental called, she realizes it was not a spell, but a divine spell-like ability he used.

Brom barks at the spellcasters to deal with...something. As he does so, the swarm around him vanishes. Then Brom heals himself for 19 points.

Barratore taunts the creature and hits it with two arrows for a total of 23 damage.

Emrys is annoyed that Edson didn’t take his offer last round, but focuses on matters at hand. He and Daemon move, and Emrys heals himself. Then he steps out of the ethereal and heroically casts a Heal on Barratore for 150 points.

Velarin tries to make the magic go away on the elemental, but he cannot (he was pretty close though.)

Finally, Edson sprints toward the spellcasting elemental, pulling his weapon and informing all there that his weapon will destroy it. He leaps off the ship as he goes, and then *SMACK* he runs into some sort of invisible barrier.

The two remaining swarms move to attack Emrys, Daemon and Brom. Each takes 15 damage, plus DC 24 Fort Save or take 2 points of DEX damage.

“Just as I have been denied the peace of my home, so shall you die here! Perhaps we can battle for eternity! Surrender, and your end will be quick.”

Then the elemental calls down lightning again. Tishe tries to counter the effect, but fails (only affects up to caster level 8.) So individual lightning bolts strike EVERYONE for 13 damage, DC 22 reflex for half.

Tishe focuses on the invisible barrier around the elemental. She dispells it and informs her friends.

Brom threatens the elemental, and then drops his sword and attacks with a long spear, hitting the thing for 51 damage.

Emrys and Daemon move out of the swarm, and Emrys heals the viper. (I thought my HP tracking was right, bit let’s go with your numbers since I confused you with the map.)

Edson move up and attacks, but his damage fails to get past the creature’s damage reduction.

Velarin moves and launches three scorching rays - and the thing falls dead.

But something strange happens - as the elemental falls, there is now a translucent figure standing partially out of the creature’s body! You only see the upper-third of it’s body sticking out of the dead elemental (giving it partial cover.) It wears tattered robes and wooden armor. And it smiles.

Barratore focuses on this new adversary, and fires his arrows at it instead. Three if his arrows hit and inflict half of 27, 25, and 24, or 13, 12, and 12.

The apparition smile curls into a sneer. “You stupid fools. You will join me. Eventually.” The thing gestures and Barratore must make a DC22 Fort Save or be turned into a little bunny. Then the apparition sinks down into the dead elemental.

The swarms continue to be nuisance. One of them move again on Emrys and Daemon, while the other stays around Brom. Each takes 17 damage, plus DC 24 Fort Save or take 1 point of DEX damage. Brom and Emrys are looking pretty beat up.

Tishe is able to dispel the remaining swarms, much to the relief of Brom, Emrys and Daemon. She calls out to the others to ready an action to attack the spectre should it appear again. She also readys a counterspell as only a Spellweaver can.

Edson climbs 10’ up back aboard the broken ship. (Remember, you are 10’ off the ground level.)

Emrys and Daemon again move out the the centipede swarm. Emrys Heals Brom for 150 points and removes all of his dexterity damage.

Suddenly Brom feels like his old self. Well, his old enraged, enlarged self anyway. Brom drops his spear and picks up his sword, and then moves off the broken ship and down 10’ onto the ground next to where the remains of the elemental were. (I was not taking into account Brom’s DR - thanks.)

(For Brom, I will let the sword re-enlarge this time, as this has not come up before. In the future a dropped sword will not get big again when Enlarged Person later picks it up. I posted this on the rules board if you want to discuss.)

(The elemental remains are no longer there - summoned creatures disappear with then die. By contrast, the remains of the Shambling Mounds that were not dispelled can still be seen on the deck of the ship.)

Barratore moves back to where he dropped his sword and and readies an action to shoot the ghostly spellcaster if it shows up again.

Velarin readies a Magic Missile.

Then, the apparition shows up again next to Brom (that’s the red square on the map.) This triggers a readied attack from both Barratore and Velarin - roll attack and damage please, AC 19. It then uses a supernatural ability (does not provoke an AOO) to merge with Brom. Brom needs to make a DC 23 Will save or be possessed by the creature.

If Brom fails on his Will save, the creature is no longer there. If Brom succeeds, it’s there on the map and can be attacked.

The sorcerer Delays, waiting to see if the attacks of the others take the Entity down before making her own move. The ghost appears next to Brom with a malicious smile, and tries to merge with the barbarian, Brom heroically resists the attempt. He smiles back at the apparition, and brings his sword down on the creature.

Edson leaps down off the ship, landing next to the ghost and striking once!

Emrys realizes he’s no good to others if he’s dead, and heals himself.

Velarin’s readied action is triggered, and the lets several Magic Missiles fly. The force missiles strike the ghost with full effect.

Finally, Barratore lets fly with several arrows, striking the creature dead.

An anguished look is frozen on the ghost’s face as he silently fades out.

Tishe was ready to try to trap the creature and distrupt it’s spell casting, but finds that neither action is necessary.

With the disappearance of the creature, the battle seems to have ended. You stand on and around a ship of sorts, broken by an earthquake. The Sargrass stretches out before you - a sea of green and yellow and grey. And among these grasses, you see the now familiar red weeds. The breeze that moves the grasses carries the sickly sweet spell of the weeds.

“There is supposed to be a glade nearby? And there may be supplies, maps, or other clues on this GrassShip. I could try to repair the ship and we could use it for transportation across the Grass.” Her mind flits quickly from one focus to another, not even giving suggestions, just possibilities.

“And what WAS that? And how is it linked to the BloodGrass infecting the Sargrass?”

Emrys then turns his attention to the well-being of his fellow Keepers. He knows that if there was any continued poisoning from the centipedes, he will at least try a simple divination to determine that. He knows his Heal spells on Barratore and Brom would have purged any poison.

(Casting Detect Poison three times, 0-level spell. To detect poison on himself, Edson and Daemon.)

He is satisfied that the others would be able to find anything hidden among the wreckage, Emrys decides he would search the tree grove, not that far away. "Please pay no mind to all my many eyes buzzing about. I'm sending them to search the grove ... a little swarm of my own." After a minute of chanting, 17 fine-sized orb constructs begin to hover and circle around the witch. "Go search the grove of trees, look for objects that may interest me ... mainly crystals! Now off you go!" The orbs then speed off, descending upon the grove, eyeing everything hungrily.

(Casting Prying Eyes. Duration: possible 15 hours. Range: 1 mile. 1d4+15 = 17 eyes, fine-sized constructs. Perception +15. Fly speed: 30ft. Any knowledge Emrys possesses the eyes know as well.)

Tishe and Velarin both remain aloft.

Tishe talks about fixing the boat while she scans the area and sees nothing but the broken ship, a nearby copse of trees and lots of grass and weeds. She can see what maybe other outcroppings of trees and the like in the far, far distance.

Velarin believes the badly damaged vessel if beyond repair, but does suggest a good search of the thing and the surrounding grasses before moving on. Barratore agrees and asks Edson to look around.

Edson sheathes his weapon and starts looking around the boat. What was once a sound vessel in now a broken hulk. Resting it’s flat bottom firmly on the ground, it did not fare well from the earlier earthquake. There is no grass growing within about 3-5 feet on any side of the thing.
He also looks here and there for hidden or secret compartments. Brom looks as well.

While they sees nothing hidden above decks, there are some scattered bones, likely picked over by some scavenger long ago. There are also some scattered weapons here and there, blades of various sorts. In the debris, he notices a couple of hatch covers in the fore and aft of the ship. There is also a superstructure to this thing, a large cabin of sorts - now also badly damaged. Forcing open the door, they enter and find some old clothing and rough maps and such, but has a hard time making heads or tales of them. One map seems to show the larger area. There is a large mountain range bisecting the place with more mountains on to the north, east and south. To the west it shows a sea.

Emrys removes his hat, inspecting it for signs of the red weeds. He sees none in the hat. Checking his friends for poison, he finds none, though some are still injured and suffer from ability damage. Then he casts Prying Eyes, sending a number of small orbs off to the copse of trees several hundred feet away. It takes a while for them to get there. They speed off towards the trees.

Boy this day sure seems long. The sun seems to have move rather slowly across the sky.

“Lenna’s Greater Mending would restore some of the ship”, Tishe’ says sadly while looking critically at the hulk, “but for something this broken, I’m afraid it will consume all of my strongest spell slots for several days. More than that, it’s laying on the ground. Even if it does repel the Grasses and ‘float above them, we’d never be able to drag it to a place where it could float again.”

Tishe’ is quickly interested in the old map, but just as quickly dismisses it as of little use right now. “It is a map of the Sargrass-that-was, but where on the map are we? If we choose north or south, we could be going in the opposite direction to the Crystal Mountains (which she points out as the mountains that bisect the Sargrass). Even more than that, there is no guarantee that the Great Migration didn’t change the borders or cardinal directions. And didn’t the Manfri say only a portion of the Sargrass was brought to the Valleys of Twilight? This map is probably nothing more than a keepsake.”

Still, Tishe’ will keep the map as a remembrance of her homeland.

Barratore, Edson and Brom search the ship. Edson shares the maps he found. In the hold are some mouldering cargo remains - foodstuffs, rope, bunched grass of some sort. Some of the pieces of grass prove to be quite brittle and shatter like glass. They also find about 100 gold pieces and 200 silver pieces in a small chest. There are also some long poles you find near the edges of the deck. Beyond this, they find nothing more than the bones, weapons and debris on the deck.

Tishe considers mending the ship, but laments that this may take several days. She looks at the maps and wonders which way to go. She recalls that the Mahyau said that Maab pulled the Sargrass and the Crystal mountains here to save them. She also recalls that Emrys did a Divination about where to go to seek the crystal, and the only direction he got was north.

In looking at the ship, Tishe does not find a skiff or smal boat. She will recall that druidwood ships are an efficient means of transport in the Sargrass, but there is not the same need for rescue or secondary craft like there is on water. In fact, these boats don’t even need to be waterproof.

Velarin waits for Emrys floating eyes to return.

Eventually the floating eyes return. All but one of them. They will report that there is a copse of trees, and within that there is an old sod and grass dwelling. It has fallen into disrepair. There are insects there too. And a few birds.

Her mood brightens at the idea of making a boat. “I am not skilled in crafting ships, but I remember the Bloodpack had a druidwood raft when we started out. We walked but kept a rope tied to the raft to carry extra supplies or wounded. Seiur Barratorre, you could engineer one I would think, though I do not know what benefit it would be. I never heard of using the wood as a talisman, but you could try it. It may help!”

With the few useful items and coins tucked away and a clear objective in the corpse of trees to the north, the only thing the sorceress can see is preparations then movement. “I don’t have any spells to repel insects, and I’m worried about the many your eyes found, Sieur Emrys.”

There is talk and concern about the insects that Emrys mentioned in the trees ahead.

Tishe calls out one of the things in the hold is Glass Grass. She mentions building a raft from the wood, and suggests going to the trees.

Velarin suggests using Wind Walk to get to the trees.

Barratore considers the suggestion of a raft, and thinks he could work out how to do such a thing. But it would take time, and he’s not sure about that. Now that he’s thinking about time, he realizes he’s rather hungry for supper. Which is odd with the sun directly overhead.

Edson takes some time to search ship again. Nothing new is found. As he looks about, he can see that the elementals’ remains have vanished. Oddly, the shredded vegetation of the shambling mounds remains.

Emrys and Velarin will recall that summoned creatures’ remains usually vanish when they die.

Emrys examines the maps. There are marks here and there with names that mean little to him. He’s not really sure where he even is on these maps, or if all of there are of the Sargrass. He reminds his friends that there is an old dwelling made of sod and grass within the tree grove, and suggests that perhaps it belongs to the druid they fought.

Brom suggests checking out the sod hut. He realizes he’s getting hungry too. Why is it not later? It feels like it should be later in the day than this?

Emrys casts Detect Magic as he prepared to again assume mist form. This takes a bit of time, and as he does so, he notices there is a source of magic coming from one spot near the bottom of the broken ship, near the front.

As Emrys Detects Magic under the bow of the boat, he reverses his transmution into a mist form and alerts the others. (The weapons found amongst the bones on the deck do not detect as magic.)

Brom laments more the lack of ale than food.

Velarin considers the day and the movement of the sun. He estimates that the day would run roughly 18 hours here (and he will find the night is also 18 hours.) Also just as strange - the sun both rises AND sets in the West.

Tishe says these long days are not normal to the Sargrass. She also suggests that there may be a way to lay the ghost to rest so it does not come back as Emrys and Velarin warn.

Barratore notices the unusually long day, but his attention is drawn to what Emrys says is a source of magic at the front of the boat. As he tries to move to the prow of the boat, he finds he needs help. With Brom and Edson assisting, they lift the thing and move to the side. The broken boat groans as they lift it. Brom thinks for a bit then says. "Look at the crash. This druid is beneath it. His home is over there." He says pointing back towards the hut. "I bet the ship was gonna crash inta his home. He did his druidy thing an' made himself somethin' really big, then caught the ship an' saved his home but was killed in the crash."

"I'm takin his remains home. If I got killed protectin' my home, that's where I'd want ta be laid ta rest. My spirit protectin' my home fer eternity."

"I find it hard to believe this druid, as powerful as he was, would have allowed a boat to run him over. He could have taken this boat and warped it into a ball if he wished. There is more to his story that isn't apparent ... and if we had the time I could have possibly divined it."

He then looks at the items, "I could make use of that ring."

Emrys then turns to Tishe and asks, "Is it possible to salvage pieces of this wood, enough that we could wear ... that could repel the grasses ... allowing easier, safer travel within the grass?"

DM Mark - "Lets go take a look, shall we?"
Monday April 9th, 2018 1:48:36 AM

The items located under the broken boat are examined. What to do with the remains of the previous owner are discussed too, ranging from burning them to taking them to the nearby wooded grove. There is also some speculation about how he died.

Emrys suggests a way to use the wood from the boat.

As all this is happening, Brom announces he will take the remains to the woods.

Based on the party’s earlier intentions, you all assume mist form a drift to the copse of trees nearby. As you enter in mist form, you find that the wooded area is rather ovegrown. There are a few birds here and insects as well. There is a clearing of sorts in the middle, where you will find an old sod hut.

You assume solid form in here. The insects here are a bother, and some bite and sting, which you find rather distraction. As you search the hut, you find the remains of animals and plants in here, once carefully collected and organized, but now you see they have decayed, and in some cases been gnawed on by some animal. There are also some bottles and clay pots here. Most are broken and empty, though a few are still sealed. There is also an old box that contains two metal tankards.

Not wanting the bones he carries to be gnawed on as well, Brom thinks to bury the remains. As he does so, the silent form of the druid rises from where you buried the bones, looking like it did when you fought it - but perhaps not as angry.

“My name is Glúnmar. Thank you for returning me to my home and releasing me from this place. Long have I laid in that spot. Now perhaps I can rest. I recall that when the Sargrass was removed from the Wold by Maab, many that lived here were given the choice to leave the Sargass for other parts of the Wold. Most did, scattered across the Wold. But I chose to remain. So did some of my brethern. But that was long ago. Some left later. Some went mad.

“There were people that saw the relocated and depopulated Sargrass as a place to plunder. They were either those that chose to stay in Rotterdam and elsewhere, or that travelled here by planar travel. It was one such group that came near to my place. I ordered them to leave. They chose to fight. I was crushed in my battle with those on that accursed boat. But I did not die right away. I lay there, trapped and unable to cast spells, for hours before I perished.”

The form of the spirit of Glúnmar begins to fade.

“Do not harm this place. Respect the Sargrass. Respect my grove. You shall have no trouble here. Go in peace.”

The pestering insects suddenly depart from you.

You find it is late in the day and your body needs rest, though the sun is still high in the sky. You may choose to rest here or elsewhere, or to press on.

-----------------------------

As you go north, you will find and search a few more wooded groves over the next day or two Please note what your general approach to travel is. Please also note what your approach is to exploring these groves. Bear in mind that you are a bit vulnerable in mist form, as it takes 5 rounds to transform and you cannot cast spells or fight while in mist form.

"Huh? well...Brom was right. I suggest that I cast the mansion and we rest here. This place seems safe enough, and as I already have the spell prepared, we may as well rest in complete comfort. We can then discuss how we are going to approach things in the coming days."

Unless there is opposition, V will cast the mansion and Once inside, and everyone has had a chance to clean up, eat and drink, V will begin the discussion for upcoming days. "We may need to search dozens of these groves before we find the one that has the crystal. While the windwalk has the benefit of lasting a long time, and carrying all of us, being stuck in mist form and defenseless for half a minute could certainly be a fatal move. Especially if something nasty in a grove sees us coming, and prepares to hit us as we start to transform. I have some teleports, but that will only work if we can see the grove, and I can't get all of us. fly has time limitations, and would not be spell effective as far as resource usage. I'm also not a huge fan of wandering through the red weeds. Ideas? Anyone?"

Tishe’ is pleased they were able to lay the druid to rest and in fact got more information on what happened. “He was a druid of the Sargrass like my Bloodpack friend, Gilan. We had different experiences on the Last Day but the Sargrass was, is, a wide land. And he died fighting white-handed beaters. I wish him a shady rest.”

She considers Emrys’ suggestion. “We never tried that but we can now.” Tishe’ works with Emrys to see if between Tishe’s knowledge and crafting skills and Emrys’ Witchy abilities, they can devise a talisman of druidwood that repels the BloodGrass.

“Travelling by mist is fast and safe, but we’ll need some hand gestures to point out landing areas, danger, and other codes.” The sorceress helps out so simple thoughts can be done while on mist form.

As to protections and preparations... she shrugs. “Until we know a specific danger, all my protections are short duration and so of little use while travelling.”

Barratore scratches his head and rubs a horn. "I'm sorry, but I must be getting old." Barratore pauses and purses his lips, "V? Did you just say, Brom was right?" Barratore steps left out of Brom's reach. The fighter does not find himself with much to add on searching the groves in mist form. He agrees that forming up in a grove with hostiles is not a good idea, but rather than a set of hand gestures he'll forget, he offers the following

"When we come to a grove, Brom should make the sweep while we wait at a safe distance. Brom could then return and either lead us in or to a safe outskirts landing zone ."

Barratore takes full advantage of the mansion

"Course, I was right." He says putting his fist up in a mock fighting pose at Barratore.

"Don't you guys got some spell that let's us talk without talkin'?" He says. "Gotta be somethin'. If not, I'm good with B's plan."

Inside the manor created by V, Brom takes off his armor and gets cleaned up. At the meal, Brom listens to the discussion. "We can make one of those grass ships. Might take up a little time, but probably save us time in the long haul."

"Yes... that's what V said, dear Barratore."

Before Emrys will retire to the mansion, he asks to wait until he can do one last thing with one of the planks of druidwood from the boat. While touching one of the planks of druidwood (one that is not load bearing or would cause the structure to collapse on him, Knowledge [engineering]: 28.) He casts a powerful spell that causes the plank to polymorph into six medallion-shaped disks of druidwood (8-inches in diameter) with a hole that could be strung with a chain or cord. One of the shapes is a wooden ring that could fit on Daemon.

(Casting Polymorph Any Object on a plank of druidwood. Duration: Same kingdom +5, same class +2, related +2 = +9 duration permanent. He tries to make the disks somewhat pleasing to the eye.. simple design, beveled edges, etc.)

After gathering up the wooden disks and ring, he enters the mansion with the rest. At dinner he discusses ideas on how to boost their inherent natural repelling abilities at least temporally. Possibly weave an infusion of a Control Plant spell to better resist the grasses. (Knowledge [Arcana]: 31, Spellcraft: 43.)

DM Mark - Discussions and Hand Gestures
Tuesday April 10th, 2018 1:44:16 AM

Velarin creates a mansion, and everyone enters. Before Emrys enters, he returns briefly to the broken ship and selects a plank. He casts Polymporph Any Object and transform a plank into a wooden medallion-shaped disk (if he wants to have 6 of these, he will need to cast the spell 6 times.) Then he returns to the mansion to think about what to do with the disk.

The heroes of the Vale retire to their mansion and discuss tactics. It’s quite comfortable here, and the food is very good. They discuss various ways to approach and search any wooded areas they many encounter. Barratore offers for Brom to go first is such situations.

Edson again asks about using some of the magic items. Emrys discusses with the others some ways to use his druid-wood disk. (Your DM is not quite sure what Emrys wants to do. Is he crafting a magic item? How does he do this?)

(If you can let your DM know in general how you approach these wooded area, we can simplify things. Alternatively, we can run through them all one by one.)

Velarin smiles as Barratore took the first verbal swing at Brom, having known very well that someone would.

"Barratore's plan has some merit. The only issue would be if something could attack Brom while in a gaseous form, which I grant you is unlikely. If such a thing happened, we would need to start transforming back immediately, and I could teleport most of us to Brom's aid. After Broms fly around, it would be his call in locating the safest place for us to reform, even if that were outside of the grove. We would just be able to follow and do as he does."

"Sometimes the simplest plans are the best, and this is pretty simple. Even we shouldn't be likely to mess this up. I will have four endure elements prepared again for tomorrow."

V will enjoy the comforts provided by the mansion for the evening, and get some sleep for another long day. Memorizing spells in the morning.

Noting the knowledge that Emrys has in the engineering field, Barratore defers to the blood witch. Aiding his friend in any plans they can create to possibly create a skiff as described by Tishe. "Although the skiff would not be under the affect of any Air Walking spell."

Barratore cleans up, taking advantage of a good warm bath. He then eats and drinks as only a minotaur can and gets a good nights rest.

In the morning, he dons his armor, checks through his gear and meets the group for breakfast. "Brom will be moving to fast for anything to get a real good shot at him and if it does he comes back to us, he land nearby form up and go pound the thing."

Emrys prepares his spells like he normally does. He reaches into the shadow plane to extract a drop of woldsblood. It's power infuses him with energy. He then begins his rituals with the help of Daemon.

He performs the Ritual of Warding (Survival: 24, success. Emrys and Daemon get a +1 to AC and Saves.)

Emrys then stares at his hands (Guide bloodwitch ability), granting himself a +2 insight bonus on his next skill check as he performs the Ritual of Spiritual Healing (Heal: 39, success. Cure spells use d12's instead of d8's.)

He decides not to tempt the fates by trying an Advanced Ritual with only Daemon. The repercussions would be quite undesirable.

When the Keepers are ready to go, he will go through the same painful process that he did the day before by casting Surrender Blood. This time his hand contorts into a ghostly gnarled claw which he rakes across his chest. Emrys turns pale once again from the wound while he uses his own lifeforce to empower his next spell (casting his next spell at 18th caster level, while inflicting 15 points of damage on himself.)

Ermys then casts Windwalk on himself and everyone in the group (Duration: 18 hours). He then casts two Cure Light Wound spells on himself. (Reroll 1's with Cure spells, house rule. 1d12+5 = 10, 1d12+5 = 11.)

"Do you all wish another divination before we head north?" If not, they take the 30 seconds it takes to mistify and off they go like a leaf on the breeze.
