At the WLA, "Welcome to the Local Chapter of the Woldian League of Adventurers. How can we be of service today? Are you searching for martial or skill teachers, or possibly even doing research for spells or other thing? My name is Daisy and I'd be glad to direct you in the direction." The young woman is in her mid 20's probably and has a terrible set of burn scars on her left arm, but isn't letting it bother her.
At your favorite councilors office, as you entered, those of you who are casters, felt arcane energy sweep over you, it didn't seem to do anything that you can tell, yet. It seemed to be some type of evocation magic and it emanated from the corner of the room. Shortly after it was cast, each of you has a faint red outline surrounding them like an aura. "So, you want to talk about the bombings, are you volunteering to go look into them? And on the other thing, there are some people in Float City that have privileges over and above the rules. I expect you bumped into one who has such privileges. I hope you didn't get on the wrong side of that person, they sort of, how do I phrase this correctly.... They make their own rules, they have access to the Overlord. And I mean they can show up in the middle of the night and get in to see him. Even I can't do that. So, the council has already determined that "most" wagons and carriages are banned until the bombings have been stopped, especially delivery wagons. Even with the searches we've instituted it hasn't been enough." He seems exasperated but you're not sure over what....

At the WLA, the woman thinks for a couple moments, "I'd say the best sparing partner would most likely be found at the Temple of Domi, or as the person you'd be looking for Imod. Yes, the person is a Minotaur, he's been a fist of Domi or Imod for quite a few years. Now the best for all out combat is now a body guard, not sure for whom, but he retired from the arena a few years ago. He goes by his last name, Wulf. When you see him, you'll know it, he's extremely tall for a human. Most Taurs have to look up to see him eye to eye. But he's not a WLA member. Not sure why but he has chosen not too. Well, I'll make your names in the logs as residents of Float City and that you have checked in. Anything else I can help you with?"
Mean while in the office of everyone favorite councilor, "Well, I may be a top councilor, but even I don't make all the rules. Especially the rules that govern the members of the founding families of Float City. I do believe the person you are referring to is the eldest member of the family that has run the arena since the city was founded. That kind of power brings with it certain advantages that mere mortals like us can only hope to achieve. And yes, the ban is hurting the flow of cash around the city, the meeting I'm on my way to is about that very subject. Are you as a group willing to search out the source and cause of these explosions and to put a halt to them?" He seems to not be as hostile as he was when you entered, maybe being nice to him or at least not out right abstinent in his face is helping out.

At the Office of the Councilor, "That red glow, it's a variation of what I think people call Faerie Fire. Unless you have a special marker, the spell triggers and all visitors to my office wear it. It will fade in only a couple minutes. It's protection against assassins and such, as in it allows me to see all of my visitors. One can never be to careful when one does the job I do. More than one government in other cities has been changed by a blade slipped between the ribs. I must be off to the Council session, I will be sure to inform the rest of the members of your wish to volunteer your services in solving the problem the city is currently under. Thank you for your concern about the City proper." He motions for you to leave the office and makes to exit himself after you have left....
The girl at the WLA raise a eye brow at the confidence of soon being we known around the city. She says "I believe his name is Luther." and waves as you leave and she goes about the business she was doing before you arrived. It takes a while to travel to the top level of the city.

As the group from below emerges onto the level below the top level, they catch sight of the fancy carriage and the horses pulling it along without a drover, it does not appear out of control.
The group at the castle, makes it back to the top of the flying carpet ride, finding the carpet at the bottom currently, that leaves the heavy lift, which is half way up with freight and the zig-zag ramp unless they wish to wait for the carpet.

With the arrival of the flying carpet the group gets down to the garden area in time to see the rest of the group headed past towards the temple of Domi.
The group headed to the temple of Domi to see about sparing with the Fist of Domi assigned to Float City sees the rest, mostly because someone calls out to them.
The two group merge and have things to discuss.....

Odd looking coin that I've never seen before. The village delivered it with the glowy moss. Apparently we can look forward to a great deal of glowy moss in the future as well." Barratore shrugs at that.
"Brom and I stopped in theWLA and were just going to say hello to Luther, Hand of Domi and currently running the Domi arena. Thought he'd be a good person to know."
Barratore blows out his snout to the side, "Apparently there is quite the fighting arena here and some rather famous folk locally. Brom and I plan to become a couple of them. So that is where we are headed, Good luck in your investigations"

The two groups meet and things are discussed, the coin is mentioned, arena fighters as well as a visit to the temple of Domi. Standing just outside the garden and in sight of the Temple itself the group seems to wander towards it while the past couple hours are discussed. About the time the talks are done the whole group is standing in front of the temple doors. The Temple of Domi sits in the corner of the top level of Float City, it sits almost on a pedestal, as there are four steps leading up to the base of the temple walls all the way around, or at least as far as anyone can see around the temple. The walls have flying buttresses about every 50 feet and between each is a huge double door. Each of those doors is currently wide open, seeming to be inviting anyone to freely enter into the Temple itself. Near the doorway is a Priest of Domi, standing proudly in his plain robes the color of worked steel. "Welcome to our temple." After welcoming the group he goes back to hammering on the hinge of one of the doors, it apparently needs to be repaired.

So... the group heads into the Temple. Around the outside are steps leading down, but they are double sized steps, so each step can be used as a seat, which over looks the sand flooring of the middle of the temple proper. There is a palanquin stashed in a cubby area near the outside edge of the temple closest to the outer wall of Float City. A Hammer and Anvil can be seen sticking out from under a steel colored cloth. Apparently it is used to carry the holy items out to the middle of the temple when they are needed. Scattered about the big open area of sand covered floor are three groups. The first group is obviously novices, they are just learning to fight, some are even tripping over their own feet. The second group is practicing archery, both bow and crossbow at a couple of targets on the top step of the steps, giving them the furthest targets possible in the temple. The third group consists of three people. Two of them are minotaurs and the third is halfling, all three have pants tied with a piece of rope and no shirt. Their bodies each glisten in the sun light due to the sheen of sweat that each has worked up. The halfling seems to be holding his own against the big Taurs, his size seems to not be a hindrance.

Barratore takes in the interior and makes a bee line for the halfling and minotaurs. He stops about 30 feet away. They were I the middle of stuff and even he knew you didn't just barge in. So we watches for a bit, trying to gauge their skills levels and also looking about the immediate area where he might remove and place his armor if need be. This was more up Broms alley then his, but unarmed combat was something he had been meaning to learn. Just hadn't gotten around to it. No time like today though.
He asks Brom, "what do think?"

We moved to the Float not long ago and we wanna find a good place ta train with guys that have some skill. We asked around and we were sent here." He says waiting for a response.

It takes a few minutes before the trio breaks from their session. The two minotaurs face each other and begin speaking quietly about something to do with one of the moves the halfling had been using. The halfling moves to the group and looking up," Welcome to the temple of Domi, or as my large friends over there call it, Imod. My name is Jax and I'm the deputy in charge of the temple. How is it we can be of assistance?" Hearing the reply he responds,"I'm sure we can work something out, we usually only train our own members and most of them are striving to become Fists. Not everyone is suited or succeeds in that endeavor. Only myself and the Fist Prime would be available for training against blades and such, if you were interested in unarmed there are a few more qualified for sparring with. You are the group I've heard of that sometimes works for the City?"

Jax listens and almost smiles as Barratore starts shedding gear and clothing down to his breaches. "Let me go speak with Luther for a moment and we can spar for a couple minutes. That way I can judge with whom you should be matched for future training. Normally Luther would do the testing, but he is guiding a fellow member towards his test for Do...Imod." He corrects quickly, with a sheepish smile at the corners of his mouth. He goes back to the two 'Taurs and after about 10 seconds he returns. To Edson Jax says, "I knew a human that couldn't fight his way out of a burlap sack sober, but drunk... I saw him one time at the temple in Imod City lay out the Temples Fist as well as his deputy at the same time. The more he drank the better he was it seemed." "So, Barratore Steelwind are you prepared?"
Suddenly the halfling moves faster than believed, he is standing right next to Evred, "I believe that the Lord of Diamonds is in charge of the main thieves guild, it wouldn't be smart to cross him, but that's just my opinion on the subject. And yes, I have very very good hearing." He then then shifts back where he was facing Barratore.....

Having just seen the small man's speed and knowing such a smaller opponent would be hard to part a hand on, Barratore then gets serious and spaces his hooves for balance and directional change.
Barratore grins a bit, "Ready when you are Mr. Jax."
As he comes at him, Barratore falls to his side away from the halfling while bringing an arm across to put his opponent into a roll

Barratore looks at Jax with a raised brow and snorts loudly once. He wasn't really sure where to go from here. The fighter was well trained and knew when he was completely outclassed and Jax completely outclasses him. All he would really learn from a sparring match with the halfling was that how long it would take him to get irate. "All right, so now what?" he asks a bit sharply. "Us sparring ain't gonna happen and if Junior is in your league, that would be a waste of my time as well. I'm not being Domi's personal punching bag."

At the Temple of Domi (DM JCC) Tuesday February 23rd, 2016 11:33:20 AM "Fear not, I am not a servant of any Mage, I am a just a Raven. I saw something different than usual happening here in the Temple and decided it needed a closer look. I see these people practicing every day and your arrival has changed that." Jax sees the Raven and says, Ignore him, he's just nosy." He calls over a couple of the other people in the temple and indicates that they should introduce themselves to the group. The archer trainer steps forward, "I'm Byron and I am the Archery Instructor, although I also train the throwing arts as well." The other instructor speaks up, "I'm Joshua and I'm in charge of teaching edged weapons. But it includes basically any weapon Jax isn't skilled in, just usually it's swords and maces." Jax says, "So the three of us are the ones who do the training and would spar if that's what you wish, at least in the temple. The Guards have their own facility down on the barracks level of course. Luther has duties as a Hand that include assisting prospective Hands and as being equal with the top Priest assigned here deals with other issues as well. I'm not sure that you know this, but a Hand is considered the chosen of Domi, sort like a Paladin of other deities are. Don't mistake me though, there are Paladins of Domi as well, it can be confusing at times depending who is in residence or just passing through, as to whom is in charge...." Having been introduced the other two go back to what they were doing, running the training of the others.

The Raven cocks his head to the side for a moment, "I was woken up by that bang, it shook my nest so hard it made me lose the dream I was having. Then there was a lot of excitement and people running about. Then I remember seeing you and your friends arrive at the docks. There are more brave faces being shown around the city that usual, I think people are scared. There has been a couple smaller bangs, nothing like the one that damaged the building at the docks. I'm not sure the smaller bangs are the same thing, I think one of them was from the alchemist's and he's always causing bangs, but with so much worry around...." Joshua pairs you off with a partner, one of them uses a whip and shield and the other has a gladius and net. "He is a ex-arena fighter." Joshua says indicating the one with the gladius.

Barratore grunts and bears his teeth in a smile as he scoops up a shield and bastard sword. He gives a few test swings to get a feel for the weight of the slightly lighter blade and nods to the man with the whip and net. Brom could take on the other guy for the first go round.
He takes a couple of side steps and shuffles once to right and nods to the man, "Whenever you are ready."
Barratore is not wearing his armor and thus only has an AC 18 His AoO is a non lethal strike Hits AC 27 Dmg 22
His follow through attack is a series of quick strikes to try and get the man moving to his left, where the minotaur tries to move him off balance with a horn thrust at the end

Barratore ends up facing off against the man with the whip. After both indicate that they are each ready, Barratore starts to move in to attack, as he does so, the whip snakes out with barely even a movement and he suddenly finds himself with his legs taken out from under him and looking up at the man moving in with the shield ready to bash down at him. The rounded off studs obviously replacements for what would normally be very sharp spikes.
Brom is facing the man with the gladius and net, After indicating both are ready, the man just circles waiting for Brom to take an action....
The rest of the group sees Barratore end up on his backside almost before they started the match. They are so shocked at the result, all they can do is stare and watch....
The Raven says...Didn't see that happening....." Jax watches but says nothing, only nodding as things happen, like he is ready to critique everybody's actions...

Brom readies himself and make the first move against the sword and net fighter. He fights more cautiously than normal testing the opponents defenses in order to judge the guys ability.

Brom comes in on his opponent and unleashes a series of strikes, as he throws the first strike at him, the gladius strikes out and parries the attack. Before Brom can follow up with his second attack, the spins and the net unfurls entangling Brom, the man then attacks through the nets opening doing non-lethal damage, not a lot, but enough that Brom knows he has been hit.Highlight to display spoiler: { (An entangled creature takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty on Dexterity, can move at only half speed, and cannot charge or run. An entangled creature can escape with a DC 20 Escape Artist check (a full-round action). The net has 5 hit points and can be burst with a DC 25 Strength check (also a full-round action). }
Barratore, strikes out from a prone position and succeeds in hitting the air around the man's feet and legs, avoiding the attacks. Highlight to display spoiler: { -4 for attacking prone} He attacks using his shield as a weapon, it has rounded half spheres that look like they are removable and if there were spikes on it, it'd probably be very very nasty. He strikes out, doing non-lethal damage. It seems that there will be bruises.
Jax speaks up. "I think I should have people who are more conventionally armed spar with you, these two are some of the best in the Temple." The two men are still in sparing mode.

So was it luck or did the halfling set them against folks he was confident could win and embarrass them. If it was the later, the little man and his temple just made an enemy. Barrartore, for now, decides to the former and gets ready for round 2

Edson watches with passing as the fight draws on. He was always in awe of Barratore and Brom's skills, but it looked like they were being tested.

Brom doesn't move very much because the man uses the rope attached to the net to control his movements, he also strikes out with the gladius again doing some more damage.
Barratore's opponent is wearing light armor of some sort. Is Barratore able to stand without provoking an AoO? Barratore did manage to glancing hit the man before. (can't 5' step while prone)

OOC Barratore Provokes AoO to stand...i cant find anywhere that allows anyone to do otherwise
Going to assume Barratore is on the Ground, prone
Barratore fights from his prone position. His sword thrusts out in two consecutive quick jabs, followed by his horns. His opponent would take some time to beat and would be annoying, but even if the spikes on the shield were sharp, Barratore could handle the minor wounds for a long long time

15 Skill points in Acrobatics provides a stand without AoO, there is also a feat, but it's not CRB. (Spent weekend dealing with this in Society Play)

Barratore manages to bash his opponent Hitting solidly. The man steps back slightly (5' step) and the whip snakes out again, catching Barratore's leg, dumping him to the floor again. He starts circling Barratore and looks ready to move in again with the shield.... Brom bursts through the net and moves up on his opponent, circling watching his target. He lets the rope slip through his fingers until there is about 5 or 6 feet from the end, and then he tugs it and the end is discovered to have a iron ball on it's end. He starts it in motion, but circles as well. The Raven says, "This looks interesting, most never seen but Jax and L'thor able go toe to toe. You are important people, maybe I should pay more attention." Jax nods as the net bursts and does not seem surprised that the other end of the net's rope had a metal ball attached. "Sometimes the best defense is offense and the only way is to take damage, I see you both already know that lesson." He continues watching the proceedings....

Brom continues to spar with his opponent. His style doesn't match well against his sparring partner. While Brom's style is straight forward using his strength to it's best ability, his partner is not the same and it's seems to give the barbarian some problem.

Barratore Hits the man as he closes to strike with the shield (counts as a charge), but then he follows through with the shield strike, Causing some damage with the blunted spikes. He then steps back 5 feet or so spreading out again.... Seems he trips you, then charges in, then backs off repeating the process, it's a bit complicated but it's working for him so far. Brom and his man continue to circle, he now has a gladius in one hand and a "mace on a rope"? The circling goes on, it seems he is not planning on assaulting, he seems to have gone defensive.
The Raven speaks up, "Won't find a drink up here, except the various temples holy drinks. Down below on the next level they charge 2 or 3 times what drinks are worth, but I expect you have cash."

Barratore stands up, the man is within 10' and if he strikes with that whip, Barratore knows he will be able take advantage as well. The Minotaur is comfortable trading his 12' of steel with the smaller man's shield hits. To take greater advantage of his chances, Barratore looses his shield and switches to two hands on his blade.
The Minotaur steps in to close the gap to a nice personal range and strikes
Hit AC 24 Dmg 19 AoO if he strikes with his whip when I initially stand up hit AC 29. Dmg 23 AoO combat reflexes hit AC 32 if he strikes with his whip on his turn as I am now 5' from him. Dmg 13 AoO combat reflexes hit AC 18 if he moves through my 10' reach Dmg 17
