Scene change. You each get 42,000 experience points for combat and role-playing.

Armalad continues her comments, and searches the prisoner.
Bartomus prepares to tie the prisoner.
Stohp goes outside.
Delia is diplomatic.
Stock demands some answers.
Zanderallen heals everyone.
Ohen dismisses the sphere.

Armalad dumps a sack of flour over Nightshade despite his protests. She then searches him. She finds a hidden knife down each boot and a knife strapped under the sleeves on his forearms. They are not magical but of superior craftsmanship. There is a pouch with 2000gp and a vile of some bluish sticky liquid.

Nightshade says, "Really you have trouble crossing the street. Didn't your mother show you how to look both ways? The contract came at 2pm. The gold and a very nice portrait of the target, with his name on the back, along with a list of places he could possibly be stashed. I of course deposited the gold in safe place."

The guard of 8 show up. It is led by Phaela Vala from the Palace Guard. They place heavy manacles on Nightshade. Phaela looks at Nightshade, "So we meet at last. Well you seem a little worse for ware all covered in flour like that." She then looks at you'all. "Well I guess you were up for this. I'm glad your on top of things. I'll send someone around with some lumber and things to board up your window. Note she only see's the lower window and is unaware of your damage upstairs as those windows open out to the lake.

The guards prepare to haul Nightshade away.

Drezz says, "Well I've got to work on my speech. Do you happen to have any parchment and pens?"

"Um Captain, Lieutenant, Vala, there was a group and their bodies are all about here. They broke out numerous windows. We are going to need a repair crew eventually, not now, but eventually. "

Bartomus explained and pointed about the main room and then indicated that there were broken windows upstairs.

"How do you suggest we get rid of the bodies of those that came with him, but were removed from this world?"

Armalad says to her friends, "The Studded Leather is +2."

Before they cart Nightshade off she asks, "Where is the picture of Drezz? I would like to examine it."

To Drezz she says, "Alas I do not have any parchment, pens or ink bottles but I can go and procure them. I need more flour. A lot more flour. If they are going to keep sending invisible assailants at us then the supply I have is not enough. Does anyone else need anything mundane?" she asks the party

As the situation begins to calm down, Stock gets to work cleaning up the broken glass. Every once in a while he trips over an invisible body and grunts annoyance.

Delia will move around and try to pile all the invisible bodies in one corner of the room, unless air elementals dissolve once they die. If that is the case and any are still solid she when pull out her sword and stab it until it dies.

Zander greets the guard captain and oversees the hand off of the prisoner. "Your assistance is appreciated, our hands are quite full without escorting talkative invisible assassins to the dungeon. Don't let him out of your sight." Zander barely manages to keep a straight face with his parting comment needing some humor to diffuse the stress of the attack.

Once parchment has been fetched, between Dorbin and Brit there was bound to be some lying around, he sits down with Drezz again. "So what message are you going to give to the people? By now I would guess the scene at the Cathedral has made it's way through the city, made even more elaborate every time it changes level. What is your vision for what you want to make the Float if elected Overlord?" Zanderallen realizes that this is an opportunity to potentially help shape future Float policy and he's curious about Drezz's opinions.

Bartomus mentions the other damage points.
Armalad identifies the armor.
Stohp gets some parchment and pen.
Stock starts sweeping up.
Delia wanders around looking for the air elementals.
Zanderallen wants to know Drezz's goals.
Ohen also wonders about the aerial servants.

Nightshade says to Armalad. "It's in my residence. And I'm not going to be telling you where it is."

Ohen can affirm that the bodies of the aerial servants were slowly dissipating, as though unraveling and rejoining with the air while they waited for the guards to show up. It was a bit unsettling and he opted not to share the details with everyone. As these creatures were not summoned as the summon monster spell they did not instantly return to their home plains. Indeed someone had to call them to this plain and then negotiate with them to have them go after Drezz.

Nightshade will volunteer that he was not working with the aerial servants. However, when some other invisible opponents were attacking he used it as an opportunity because he was not about to share the bounty.

Phaela then hands each of you a certificate and a finely worked wallet. Inside the wallet is a gold star. "I was able to get you named honorary commissioners in the city guard. That will give you some clout with the guard. Don't go abusing the privilege." She then smacks herself in the head lightly. "Oh by the way." She digs out a parchment and hands it to Ohen. "This came to the City Council."

Ohen see's that is a letter, General Delivery, The Float, Ohen Kuldrven. Ohen recognizes his father's handwriting on the envelope. Ohen only Highlight to display spoiler: {fill in as you want}

Drezz thinks about what Zanderallen asked. "Well my campaign points were about
--Make the giant turtles a protected species and have monstrologer clerics on hand to better take care of them.
--Structure work on the lower levels. One of the corner pillars is decaying from the inside out as evidenced by the collapse of the stairs in the pillar 2 years ago.
--official registration with not just the WLA, but the city for all adventuring groups that wish to call the Floating City home.
--official registration and licensing of all bounty hunters and a code of conduct established for how they will operate within 60 miles of the Floating City."


He pauses in thought. "I guess I'm going to have to say something about the Lords of Diamond as well. Should I give the full explanation of the plan do you think?"

Phaela watches the guards leave. "First off the site for the speeches has been picked. It's going to be in front of Flower's Temple. Candidates will be inside the temple until called to the stand. The stand is going to be built raised so everyone can see the candidate speaking. It's been scheduled for 2pm tomorrow." She looks around, "Do you think this is the best place to hole up? Though I really don't see anyone offering to take you in right now? Any chance you have some anti-location magic handy? Wait I don't want to know, the less I know the better. Here take these." She hands you 3 feather tokens.

Armalad says to Phaela, "If you can get the location of his residence out Nightshade I for one would like to see that painting of Drezz."

Armalad says to Drezz, "Well if you explain the Lords of Diamonds evil plan do you think it will make them want to kill you more or less? I mean on the one hand the cat is out of the bag as it were but on the other hand you do kind of make yourself a thorn in their side. Do you need us to retrieve that evidence you stashed prior to your speech if you decide to explain the bit about the Lords of Diamonds and their nefarious agenda?"

After the guard leaves Armalad says to the party, "If I go to the catacombs I can buy some material components for some spells that should help. If I get some crushed diamond dust and some crushed jade I can make Drezz not show up by certain divination spells for 9 hours per 50 gp of diamond dust and casting of , that is unless the caster of the spell overcomes my protection which may or may not be possible as my background does make me not as powerful magically as a straight up wizard with my experience, alternatively I can get 250 gold worth of crushed jade and with each casting of false vision I can ward a 40 foot radius with an illusion of my design for 9 hours. Apparently there is no way to resist that illusion either so that might be the better plan and I can buy 3 portions of jade dust and 3 portions of diamond dust with the gold I have the problem is I won't be able to cast them until tomorrow. I was thinking I create a tiny hut we hang out in and then ward a 40 foot radius around the tiny hut with an image of an empty room. We have total concealment inside the tiny hut from those physically outside and if anyone scries on drezz all they'll get is the illusion of an empty room. Heck we could put the tiny hut in a room that is 40 feet or smaller and then make the illusion of the room the tiny hut is in resemble another room somewhere else. So I guess I'm off to the catacombs then."

"Everyone's going to be wondering about your association wit the lords. The other candidates will use it against you if you don't reveal you've been investigating them." Stohp points out. "It also sounds like two groups of enemies, so probably two people who want Drezz dead. Probably two lords of diamonds, we can expect more attempts."

Stock reluctantly accepts the badge and tucks it away. With a slow drawl he says, "My hypocrisy knows no bounds."

He then says to Drezz, "At this point, you want to control the narrative. You have to get your version of the TRUTH out there. Especially since you already have people trying to kill you."

Zanderallen thanks Phaela as you hands over the badges, "I give you my word we will only use the power in times of need, thank you. As for staying here, this might not be the greatest fortress in the world, but it is home and we know everything about it. Sounds good for the speech tomorrow, we'll have people there early to secure overlooking rooftops." He nods as he accepts the feather tokens, tucking them into a pouch.

"I like that plan Armalad, both for if we get attacked here and if we get attacked at the speech. Plan is we get Drezz off the platform, inside the temple if possible, if not then inside a tiny hut.

Zander considers Drezz's points. "As they've said, the cat is out of the bag. I don't think you go naming names yet, but you've got to get people to believe you're one of them, not a Lord of Diamond bent on extorting them and the city. Give them the story, plain and simple, without going into details. Then drop it and move into your main points. You've got my vote with those goals."

Delia will whistle for Hawky and tell him to follow Nightshade. If there are any problems he should return and Alert (which involves cawing loudly at Delia's face) and if they contain the assassin safely he should just return to her.

She'll listen intently to Drezz's campaign points and nod slightly once he finishes. She'll add quietly, "Hopefully the Shields being your personal guards will lend a bit of truth to not really being a Diamond Lord."

Ohen will take the letter and carefully read it, getting a little bit sad as he does.

"Ah, well I was hoping my father would take advantage of the opportunities here in the Float and stay, but it looks like he is moving on.

"I was hoping to remain a Silver Shield, there is much good to be done here, but I guess it is not to be. The Wold is a dangerous place for a traveling merchant, and family comes first.

"I suppose this is goodbye, I will be taking my things and helping my father load up."

"So they were just creatures of air then," Bartomus said to Ohen as he explained what exactly were the other assailants. He then beamed when they were informed that they were honorary commissioners in the City Guard and repeated it a bit louder than the whisper that he intended. "We fancy, honorary commissioners in the City Guard."

"Wait, wait, there's a pillar rotting? Is that normal, I mean I think on a floating city that probably needs to be an immediate focus. Just saying. Oh, and I like that turtle idea. Turtles are awesome, everyone would want to make sure they are well cared for. Not sure about the other stuff, I once heard someone say though, "taxation is the price of civilization." Bartomus added. He listened to the others discuss what Drezz should share about the Lord of Diamonds and something just made him nervous.

"So, do you have your investigation materials somewhere or with someone in case things go wrong? I mean they tried killing you to silence you. If you say had copies in places where they are suddenly revealed if something were to happen to you, that might add more reason to protect you. I mean if there was a spell that would trigger your allegations to appear on the walls of buildings if you were killed, and you shared that if you were to die everyone in the float would know who the actual lords of diamonds were, would they kill you?"

Delia tells Hawky what to do. all is well, your hawk will return with nothing to report.
Ohen makes an announcement.
Bartomus makes some political commentary.

The guards depart along with Phaela. Hawky follows them and eventually returns to Delia and just lands and starts preening its feathers.

Ike Holmes shows up with some lumber and a few workmen. He quickly see's to boarding up the windows. Then he proceeds to start taking measurements of the interiors. He says, "I've gotten a commission to reinforce your walls. I'll need to take measurements, and of course we will have to reinforce certain load bearing points." He nods to Stock, Stohp, and Bartomus, "I understand you practice a bit in the crafts. I'm thinking stonework for reinforcement of your outer walls. It would probably be best to build it as a secondary interior wall. The weight load will have to be fixed from underneath. I understand there's a sewer entrance here? We might be able to get under the main structure and reinforce from there. This place was originally a warehouse and probably built to minimum code requirements. I like to go beefier on code because minimum is sometimes too minimum."

Drezz takes your comments in stride making notes on the paper he's working on. "But don't you think that by having the city register adventurers it would encourage those that don't wish to partake of the WLA? I mean from what I've heard not everyone wants to be a member. It's not really a taxation thing its more of an encouragement for other opportunities for people." He will work on his speech for awhile.

Where are you going to have him sleep?
um... What's your watch order?

And we bid farewell to Ohen. He will be missed.

"Sir, I think you have a better understanding of how best to do this, but I like that we also ensure we exceed the code standards. I mean us taurs aren't all that light and I don't think I want to come crashing down from the practice room into someone else's bedroom." Bartomus offered in response to Mr. Holmes' suggestions on the improvement of the headquarters building. After they worked out where their guest would be staying, Bartomus well lend a hand to Holmes and his crew if he was willing to have some assistance.

"I am going to suggest that we keep Drezz either down here and maybe between the pillars on something we can set up to make him comfy; or, in the workshop. What do you all think?" Bartomus asked his fellow Shields.

Armalad says, "I think Drezz should sleep someplace centrally located where one of us can stand guard at various times. Despite being an elf I need my undisturbed rest for 8 hours to plan new spells. Even though it kind of goes against my normal strategy I wonder if I should prepare some arcane sight or see invisibility n addition to any tiny huts or spells that thwart scrying. The thing I'd be worried against the most during the speech would be some kind of ranged attack. I would cast protection from arrows but the DR on that is overcome by magic so I'm not sure if it would be that useful. Can anyone throw up a wind wall while he was talking? That might be the most useful defense against the assassins bolt or bow. Once I start preparing some tiny huts each day we can put Drezz in a tiny hut to sleep and he will have total concealment for 9 hours. I have to stay in the tiny hut but I can do my 8 hours rest in the hut."

Stohp says her goodbyes to Ohen then makes the obvious suggestion. "Put him in Ohen's room. He doesn't need it anymore, and it's on one of the upper floors allowing us to better secure it."

She'll help with fortifying the building and take first watch. She'll keep an eye on the contractors as they work to make sure none of them were paid by a Diamond to add something subtle that will be a problem later (perception 19, to watch the workers, and craft: carpentry 35 to help with the work and double check for potential problems/sabatoge).

Stock leans in to Holmes and says in a low voice, "No disrespect Ike, but if you're doing any stonework, do you have any dwarves on your team?"

He then helps Drezz to move in and offers to take fourth watch.

"I don't remember ever setting a watch order at home. Do you all think there's a chance that the Diamonds aren't done with Drezz?"

Zanderallen says good bye to Ohen, wishing him all the best.

"We do now have an empty bedroom. The window will need to be reinforced. But it should be a safe enough spot. We know for a fact that two hits were put out on Drezz. The air elementals and Nightshade were not the same contract. So I do not think the Diamonds are done with him." Zander will direct Ike to stoutly barricade the window to Ohen's old room, even if it wasn't broken.

"For protecting Drezz during the speech, I have some divine protections I can place upon him, but in the event of an attack I will remain near him. I have a thought on how to remove him from harm's way."

She then volunteers herself and Hawky for 5th watch.
For the speech the next day she asks, "Now that Ohen had to leave, can anyone see invisible things? We'd be a lot more vulnerable this time."

Bartomus is suitable impressed with Ike's knowledge and knows the work will be in competent hands.
Armalad proposes strategy.
Stohp suggests a strategy. No actual work is starting now (except boarding up of the windows-you may consider them secured), Ike is just taking measurements and checking things out.
Stock wants to make sure stonework is done by the masters.
Zanderallen thinks things aren't done yet.
Delia wonders about seeing invisible things.
Ohen leaves.

"Hey, I had an idea. Wouldn't an earth elemental like the one at the temple be able to know where things were moving? I mean I think it would work, right?' Bartomus said as he came back from his walk about with Ike. "Oh, we don't need to worry about Ike. He definitely knows his wood. He's treat us well I am certain."

Bartomus eventually wandered off, got something to eat and took a quick nap. He pulled himself up and made his way over to where Stohp was on guard.

"Ok, friend, I'm your relief. Head on out to get some shut-eye. Anything to share? Bartomus asked?

Armalad says to Ohen, "Take care. I wish I could have gotten to know you better. I think despite the guild's haughty attitudes toward spontaneous casters you folks are a-ok in my book."

Armalad says to the Others, "Well as I said I can cast see invisibility on myself which would last 90 minute per casting, technically if I prepared 2 I could give one to Joker as well and we would have two folks that could see invisiblity. Actually if the assailants are within a certain area and Joker has the wand of silent image and the ability to see invisibiltity he could use the illusion to paint where the invisible folks were like Ohen did. I would say though with such a limited window of seeing invisibility we probably save it till we know there are invisible things about. I also can prepare alarm which can detect invisible things but I can't do Glyph of Warning as that is a cleric spell. Buying those material components pretty much tapped me out of my funds but I do have 12 one pound sacks of flour now so if we needed to spill some on the floor to detect tracks we could and if we see tracks in the flour we can't account for I could cast see invisibility on myself and/or my familiar and we deal with them. The earth elemental is a good idea, if anyone can do anything with a bat that would work or caltrops going back to material solutions but like I said, I'm kind of out of cash after buying the material components I need to ward Drezz against scrying. I have 54 hours of warding total between the components I bought. 3 of those 9 hour periods would allow us to ward a 40 foot radius area where we keep Drezz for 9 hours with an illusion of my design and that would be whatever anyone scrying on Drezz would see. The other 9 hour portions would protect Drezz from various divinations directly unless whoever was trying to spy him could overcome my warding which is possible since my eclectic training weakened my caster level versus a dedicated wizard. The trade-offs were worth it in my opinion but this is one of my weaknesses."

Stohp will help with the boarding of windows. She's fairly alert during her watch (perception 29)

"I can't add anything to stopping invisible attackers but I can place substantial divine protections on Drezz before he has to expose himself to give his speech. Delay Poison will prevent poison from affecting him, atleast until the spell runs out. Shield Other will allow me to take some of the harm directed at him, as long as we can pick up a platinum ring. Magic Circle against Evil will provide him protections as well as stop summoned creatures from being able to approach him, atleast evil ones. And finally Death Ward will give him considerable protection against death magic and powers. Except Death Ward they last for hours.

Zanderallen takes his watch extremely diligently, patrolling the hallways of the headquarters.

Bartomys headed off to bed when his watch was done and then went to sleep. When he awoke, he went up to the rooftop and spent some time thinking of the day to come and his want for the day. When he finished his meditations, he worked his way back down to the first floor. He grabbed a bite to eat and listened to Drezz practice his speech.

"Do we just stay holed up here, or should we go and see what others are doing in this part of the Float?" Bartomus asked the others.

Armalad thinks long and hard about her spell selection that day.

She tells the others, "I have prepared Alarm, multilple glitterdusts, true strikes and see invisibililty. I am also preparing detect thoughts and am planning to use it during the speech to read the crowd's thoughts. I also thought of another spell that could be useful called rope trick. We could secure Drezz and 7 others myself included in an extradimensional space if we needed to. I have also 2 Tiny Huts, 2 nondetections, a resilient sphere we could always use around Drezz also if it came to it considering it would trap him but protect him, not ideal but in a pinch if the choice is that or him dying probably preferable, and lastly false vision. I will figure I'll use 9 hours of the nondetection during the day and then at night we can use false vision on a 40 foot area that Drezz will sleep inside, preferably one where we put a tiny hut."

Zanderallen will expend more uses of his channel energy to get everyone healed up before everyone heads to bed. He greets Happy with a smile, "You've always been good to us Happy. Lunch at 11 would be perfect. Happy could you arrange for someone to pick up a platinum ring for me? Here's 50gp for it, I would go myself but..." He gives a meaningful look inside.

He tucks into breakfast with an appetite, making sure Drezz eats. He then offers his help in finalizing the speech. "No no no. With passion. People know you're the target of assassins. Let them know you're not afraid. That's better. Now we need to work on the wording. You're getting lost in the details, big picture, give them something to get excited about. Don't lose them in the paperwork."

Healing....I'm willing to say your characters would have been smart enough to have done that before you went to bed. So Zanderallen would still be at full lay on hands.

Healing in general, with no cleric that is a chink in your armor. Didn't you have a party wand of healing? Can't anyone that can cast that spell use the wand? Also do you want to pick up some healing potions in the catacombs?


Happy is startled by the request but quickly nods. "Sure no problem." He pauses, then says, "You know there's other's campaigning already? Posters going up and what not. They really are playing on him being a Lord of Diamond and despite the gods' will not a good thing to have as Overlord." He then sort of shrugs. "Just saying, ya know."

From the south wall you hear some faint knocking. At first you are all tensed up but soon realize it's just the sounds you've heard before from the neighbors, boxes being stacked and crates moved around and such. Life goes on in the Float.

Drezz shakes his head. "Well I don't really have any campaign people. I was pretty much just running by going to different places and giving a speech. I guess some of the others are really throwing in the works to get elected. I've heard of some places where placards and posters and fliers are used a lot, not just speech making and going around shaking hands and acting concerned about everyone's problems." He realizes he may have misspoke. "I mean some other politicians in other cities are like that, so I've heard. I know our current Overlord genuinely cares about the people here. But many of her plans have been stymied by emergencies, lack of funding, and sudden dissatisfaction by the concerned parties. All pretty much the way the Lords of Diamond operate to get their own agenda's advanced. But a secret organization isn't so secret if it can actually be revealed to the people. Maybe if they knew for a fact what the group has been behind in the past they can view current events with a more critical eye. By all means let's go see this Pepper person. If she works for the Weekly Bugle then it's the best way to go." He stands and puts on his mask as if he's going to go out the door.

So who's going to stay behind and guard Drezz and who's going out to get Pepper and start campaign things?

Armalad previously cast Nondetection on Drezz when the party agreed it was a good idea.

She says, "At minimum I think Zanderallen, Joker and myself should guard Drezz here. My reasoning is I have see invisibility I can put on Joker and myself and Zanderallen has healing capabilities. We can either do a rope trick or tiny hut while we wait for the others to get back. I have 2 tiny huts and one rope trick on the day. We should also put flour down and if anything disturbs it that we can't see that can be my clue to use See Invisibility on Joker and myself as it is a personal spell and Joker is my familiar so I can share it with him. Joker will then use the wand of silent image to paint targets on the invisible things like Ohen did and I'll use my skills / spells as appropriate"

Joker says to Armalad, "We haven't gotten that familar boss."

Armalad says, "I don't think an elf and a Mephit are compatible plus I don't think of you in that way."

Zanderallen agrees letting a few people out to stretch their legs and dispel cabin fever would probably be for the best, not good to keep angry dwarves on sentry duty too long. "Sorry Drezz, but the streets are not safe at the moment until absolutely necessary. Maybe after this first speech we can start to escort you to certain places, then at least your death would look like the Diamond Lords trying to silence you." Zander gives a smile as he realizes how grim that sounds. "Pepper should be getting back the publishing house around the time you would get there. She usually tries to get in interviews first thing and then get stuff written to paper midday before interviews again in the afternoon. If she's working a story, which I'm sure she is right now."

"I think until the danger is past Drezz and I are going to be best friends."

Drezz seems chestfallen but nods in agreement. "I can see your point." He fondles the hat you've loaned him. "You know when we do go out I can use this to look like one of you, that way it could help and throw off the assassin."

Right now it looks like Stock and Delia are leaving the building.
There's two ways to leave the building, blatant and stealthy. If you want to be stealthy and loose anyone that might be tailing you please roll Stealth.
Also roll perception and knowledge local just to see how the people are acting. Don't forget to wear your masks.

If staying inside there's little to do. You may use diplomacy to aid Drezz in his speech or you can roll perception to be on guard duty.

Bartomus got all wrapped up in the rapping, the tapping, and such. He wasn't all that use to actually being in the HQ when it was a "business day."

When he got a bit stir crazy, he grabbed his mask, put it on.

"Going to look at the tree and just peak down the outside. Be right back," and he stepped out the front door. He made the very short walk over to the tree that he had helped get started overlooking the lake.

He looked out and back at the wall and windows that the attackers had blown out and then spent time just enjoying the view of the lake. After a bit, even Bartomus got an itch to go back and see how Drezz was doing on his speech.

Sorry, rushing to get somewhere for the weekend.

Armalad says, "Drezz, would you be willing to rehearse your speech in the 20 foot radius of a tiny hut with me? I mean I'll be on lookout but the point is if we are in the tiny hut you have total concealment meaning that xray trick won't exactly help them this time."

If Drezz assents Armalad first empties some of her flour sacks onto the floor outside of where she would be casting the tiny hut so that she can see if anyone is trying to sneak up on them again. She then casts her tiny hut in the middle where the flour is encircling so that the 20 foot radius of the spell's hut is encircled by the flour trap. (OOC: I have 12 bags; how many did I use).

While Drezz works on his speech Armalad stands guard with Joker as the inside looking out of the hut is transparent.

Drezz nods and passes the hat of disguise to Delia. He turns to Armalad, "Well I suppose if you think it's necessary I can use your hut thing. But will I be able to speak to the reporter person you're bringing back? Also what if I have to go to the bathroom?

Bartomus, Delia, and Stock head out to find Pepper. The town is fairly buzzing about the implications of the election. There's numerous posters proclaiming the pro's of electing Rothchild and forcing a regent than having a known Lord of Diamond at the helm. There's a few posters proposing Gerard Gilcrest be elected and forcing the regent option as well. People are certainly talking about that as an option. There's lots of rumors flying about various things that have gone bad in the Float being laid at the doorstep of the Lords of Diamond and their evil plans.

The trio find Pepper outside the newspaper, (at least you assume it's pepper, it's a female wearing the same mask that Zanderallen has, and you know they bought their masks together). She's talking to some people and defending the Sheilds getting involved in protecting Drezz. You hear her say, "I'm sure they were told to do it. I mean come on look at everything they've done to protect the Float it the past. They CAN'T be working for the Lords of Diamond. It's a ludicrous suggestion." The people around her grumble and go away but you can sense they may not be convinced. Never-the-less she's alone now.

That's a lofted ball to you, how do you want to handle the approach to her and the pitch?

Stohp considers security measures. Once before they had better security. Guards, servants, all that kind of thing. Then everyone died while the Sheilds were pursuing a case and no one's wanted to hire new people since. Especially at the moment where potential hirelings could be plants by the DIamonds. Still there are other options. She reviews ideas like permanent spells on the building to prevent invasion, maybe constructs to defend but would have no personality for them to be guilty over if they died.

"Stock is telling you some solid truths there," Bartomus added from the side as Stock gave a good explanation. The taur looked about and tried to gauge the small crowd's reaction.

"You all should have been there. I was working in my room on a carving and the windows were blown inward. There were these nearly invisible hitmen that started attacking everyone in the headquarters. All we were doing was what we were asked to do, mind you. While that distraction was going on, this guy Nightshade was doing the sharp pokey, pokey with knives and things at this Drezz dude. But, we were able to beat off his elemental sidekicks, get him tied up, and turned him over to the Guard. Cause, well you know, that's what us Shields do."

Bartomus made sound effects with his mouth during his explanation and used hand gestures to punctuate points in his performance.

The crowd listens intently. When Bartomus mentions Nightshade the crowd makes suitable oo and ah sounds. It appears the 'legend' of Nightshade precedes you. The crowd disperses and you overhear them start to talk about your past exploits that have aided the city.

Pepper is also impressed by your information. "YOU guys captured Nightshade. Oh man, interviewing him would be interesting, but Drezz is number one. Let's go!" She is ready to go.

I also suggest we use the hat on Drezz and we have Zanderallen be prepared to cast protective spells on Drezz should we get attacked on the way to the debate. While we wait for Drezz to speak we use either the rope trick or the tiny hut to stash Drezz in. As I said I would use detect thoughts to scan the crowd for potential trouble makers. If Pepper gives her directions, Delia will hand her the hat of disguise, either to use on their way back or just return to Stohp or Drezz and branch off from the group towards wherever that would get done. She tells Stock and Bart to keep Pepper safe and that she'll meet them back at HQ.

If splitting off, she fades into the crowd and keeps an eye out for tails.

"I have several spells that will last several hours. I will cast them before we leave. Happy is bringing lunch at 11am. We can eat and leave HQ to get to the cathedral by noon. That gives an hour to secure the location. The cathedral should be safe, in the event of an attack our goal is to get Drezz secured inside. We can use additional protections as well. We'll want to secure any high points overlooking the location and if something gets through I will be right behind Drezz to take a hit if it comes to it."

Pepper, Stock, and Bartomus return to the HQ. Pepper glances at Zanderallen and gives him a big stare and a splinking of eyelashes. Then she zereos in on Drezz. Her questions are fast and consice. However, she gives him plenty of time to tell his story. You can tell it will take a while.

The Shields in the HQ talk about the setting and are able to come up with some rough outlines of what the place looks like. After all they were just there. There's a lot of space in front of the cathedral along the streets. That's where a good portion of the crowd is going to be jammed in.

Pepper indicated that the publishing house behind her are the best printers around. And the Shields do have a connection with the owner from previous work. It would probably be pretty easy to have some posters made up if you have the money and know what you want to have said.

Delia nods in thanks to Pepper and then pauses, looking at Bartomus and Stock for help before they leave, "There was, uh, something about a collapsing pillar? And... adventurers? We should have brought someone who's good at people..."

If enough of Drezz's talking points are remembered, she write them down. Then, she heads to the publishing house and approaches the nearest worker.
"Hi, um, I'm with the Shields and we're supporting-er-helping out Drezz. He seems really nice actually and isn't one of the Diamond Lords-well, he kind of is, but he doesn't like them-" she cuts off her nervous tumble of words, pushing her notes of Drezz's policies to the worker, "Please help."

Once help is acquired, she does a solid job of negotiating a good deal.

Back at the HQ, Stock participates in building a plan for the speech. "If I remember right, the site for the speeches is going to be in front of Flower's Temple. Candidates will be inside the temple until called to the stand. The stand is going to be built raised so everyone can see the candidate speaking...and I think I remember that more or less verbatim.

Now we will probably want some air cover - maybe Armalad, Bartomus and Delia up high. I'll be in the crowd, first row looking outward for disturbances. Z - you are probably sticking to Drezz's hip the whole time. Stohp - maybe you are with me."

"We'll want to position everyone where they can help if something happens, either vantage points with range, or nearby to hit things. I agree Stock, I'll be with Drezz at all times. Zanderallen hugs Pepper close once she finishes her interview and he see the worry in her eyes. The gratitude on his face is evident as Stohp offers to escort her out the sewers. "You might want to be careful after you publish this story. We are going to root this out, but the Diamond Lords will not go down without a fight. And if something doesn't feel right, use this, for emergencies. Love you, Domi watch over you. Zander takes one of the feather tokens from the overlord and presses it into her hand. Once she leaves he settles into his old rituals of cleaning his blade and armor, making sure every strap is in place and tight.

If needed, Delia's movespeed is 45ft so she could stare in horror at the nice man helping her as she realizes she doesn't know Drezz's points, run and catch up to Stock, Bartomus, and Pepper, and then return to the publishing house with her answered questions. Or realize she needs help before heading into the business

As a long time float resident and ex-townguard, Delia would note down many high traffic locations for the posters. She'll target the lower half of the city more because she knows it better, putting some extra ones on the level where the pillar is collapsing.
She counts out 165 gold, "150 posters please. The extra 15 is to make sure they get hung well before the fancy speeches this afternoon."

Well Eberyon is a power unto himself. You're not going to be able to summon him. The task required of a planar ally is not going to be cheap, and it would have to be one within its power to achieve. Lesser Planar ally, lesser, is only going to get you a 6HD ally at best things like: Half-Fiend Minotaur, Barghest, Bearded Devil, Hound Archon, Janni, Nightmare, or Shadow Mastiff.

Pepper looks at Zanderallen and then hugs him fiercely. Even in his armor he can imagine feeling her arms pressing in on him. She nods to Stoph and the two leave through the sewer entrance.

Delia returns pleased to report that campaign posters for Drezz will soon be hanging in inconvenient places for the other Lords of Diamond.

A little before 11 there's a knock at the door. It's masked Happy with your lunch and the ring that Zanderallen ordered. Happy winks at Zanderallen, "I assume this isn't for Pepper, but if you ever get around to it I know a guy."

Stohp finalizes her thoughts on how to guard the meeting place. She figures Armalad should go on top of one walll and Delia on the other. They can use long range magic and keep an eye open for snipers from up there. Zander and Stock should stay with Drezz on the platform. They can body block attackers and use healing/defensive magic to keep him safe. Stohp and Bartamous should be in amongst the crowd looking for assassins hidden in the masses. People with concealed weapons and the like. She also wants to know about guard presence - with how important the speeches are presumably the guards would be there on crowd control if nothing else.

Armalad says to Stohp, "My detect thoughts spell only works for me while I concentrate. I could start on the wall but then use my fly spell + detect thoughts to buzz the crowd overhead looking for surface thoughts of wood-be assassins and Joker could probably fly with me and use that wand of silent image to highlight them for you. I only have 9 minutes on the 2 spells so when it is getting close to them expiring I could fly back over to the wall and be on watch with Joker at my side."

She adds to the planning, "We need an exit strategy in case things go south fast. Are we scattering and regrouping back at HQ? Getting Drezz to a nearby defensible position - which would be where? - and grouping on him first?
"Eyes in the sky is a good idea, but I could put Hawky up there instead of me. Even though it's a good vantage point, I'm concerned about getting stuck on top of a wall and things moving out of sight."


She looks at the hat of disguise, "How many magic disguise potions could we get our hands on? Something goes wrong and suddenly all of us look like Drezz so assassins don't know who to target?"

Zanderallen takes the ring from Happy, "This one is a focus for some protective magic, but I may need your guy sometime..." His voice trails off as he looks off where Pepper disappeared. His gaze moves back to Drezz and he snaps back to business, there may never be a good time but under active assassination threat was a worse time from most. He hands the ring to Drezz, "This is a focus for a shielding spell I will be placing on you before we leave, don't take it off."

Zander helps Happy bring in lunch, "Eat up everyone, after this is go time. No need to hide weapons, this time we're not guests to a religious ceremony. We are a protection detail, being visible deterrents can sometimes be more effective than the actual protection we provide. In the event of an attack our fall back location is the Cathedral. If that's cut off we get Drezz into a rope trick and/or tiny hut. Then we'll assess the best method to get back home based on the threat."

He then sits down and eats with vigor.

The food is good. Drezz picks at it a bit, but manages to get some down.

Questions:
How fast do you want to eat? 10 minutes or 30 minutes...or an hour?
How fast and how do you want to get to the cathedral? Quick march straight up? Stealthy through the sewers...though that would actually take longer overall. Some other method(s).
How much time do you want to have to check the area before the speeches start?

Right now I'm thinking of zones for placements once you get up.

Armalad says, "If things go wrong we could hold up in a rope trick for a couple of hours. not many spells can get in, the entrance is disguised and we could see out."

As for eating Armalad doesn't want to eat so fast she gets indigestion. She also thinks they should try to take an unexpected route to get to the venue and get their early enough they have some time to scout things out prior to the speechifying.

"If an attack happens then Zander and Stock grab Drezz and rush him into the temple building where the avenue of attack is more limited. The rest of us try to apprehend the attackers. We probably don't want to try to rush Drezz through a panicked crowd of civilians. If the assassins stay and fight then the height advantage will let Delia and Armalad attack with impunity. If they flee it's probably best to let them - our priority is Drezz's saftey, and any hirelings probably won't be running around with direct evidence of who their bosses are. Our enemy has proven to smart for that.

I want someone on each wall - if we only put one person on the wall then with our luck some sniper will end up on the opposite side. Armalad and Delia are the only two with good enough ranged options to provide support from so far if someone from the crowd attacks. There should be no risk of those on the wall being cut off because we won't chase fleeing assassins, we'll stick close to Drezz. We'll deal with any attackers while Zander and Stock keep Drezz safe, then regroup in the temple and escort Drezz safely home. The enemy has shown capability of moving assassins into the same room with Drezz while the rest of the team is busy so you two should stay right next to him at all times just in case an obvious attack outside is bait for us to stash him and leave him vunerable."


Stohp waits for other critiques/comments on the plan. The nice thing about a large team is that they can find holes in her logic and flaws in her plans. She'd want to get to the speech spot at least a half hour early if not more to survey the grounds and find a good place for Drezz to hole up safely in case of attack. She also still wants to find out if there will be any regular guard presence, even if it's just for basic crowd management.

As he started back up the stairs to his room to get his armor on, he turned his head back and asked, "We going to eat quickly here and then what use the sewers or just walk up on the lifts? He's going to need to shake some hands and kiss some babies right?"

Zanderallen encourages everyone to eat at least a little, giving a good half hour to eat in comfort. "Plan sounds good Stohp, hear that Drezz? Something happens you stick to me and Stock will clear our path. Since I'm your bodyguard use your hat of disguise to look like me, should confuse any attackers."

Zander fully gears up and makes sure everyone else does as well. "Out the sewer, we'll take the run to the central stairs and then come out to the street. Should give us a head start on anyone watching the front door. Straight up the stairs, on the double, guards try and stop us flash the badges and keep moving."

Right before they leave Zander casts some long lasting protections on Drezz.

1: Okay this is primarily prep stuff. Spent some time creating the map with zones listed.

2: I found you another way up. Long ago there was an adventure where the Shields were transported between levels with a flying carpet and that it was an expensive business within the city. Not sure what it was called but I found a Gordo's Transport on the Gold level. They have 1 10x10 magic carpet. It can't carry all of you because of you large's but it can make multiple trips. Let's say the Overlord has booked it to transport you up. It's ready when you are.

3: The buildings along the inner blue wall are all businesses. They are all 1 story. It would be gauche to live above your business if you are operating on the Open Air level.

4: Look at the range line, roughly 1 inch should be 200 feet. At least that's what it looked like in photoshop. Estimate thusly, the short area of the trapazoid in front of the dais is 200 feet to the back edge where the grass starts.

Armalad tells the others, "I may use a bow but I'm most effective within' 30 feet with total concealment as I get sneak attack damage. I'll stay on the wall if that is what you guys want but having me be able to fly with Joker by my side would give me mobile options especially if joker is using his wand of silent image to put me in an illusionary fog cloud. Does that change your plan for me any? I'm not going to bring anyone down at long range today especially with the spells I prepared for today as I did more defensive countermeasures to foil invisibility, scrying and give cover if we get into a pitched battle."

"Like I said I have detect thoughts with a time limit of 9 minutes so wherever I am I can patrol my nearby crowd and guards looking for thoughts of assassinatiion but I don't know if you want me to check my area out ahead of time or wait until the speech starts and patrol. I also can fly for 9 minutes which would give me the ability to move between areas but again I don't know if you want me to use that to check my particular zone or be multi-zonal or save if for if an assailant reveals themselves."

If the party still insists on the original plan of having Armalad on one of the walls her and Joker will take zone 1. Otherwise if they think she should be multi-zonal then theoretically she could fly between 1, 5, 3, 4 and 7 for 9 minutes and then when the spell is running low land at either zone 1 or zone 7 as on top of the 2 story building could also be a good position for her if not a wall.

"If you can fly then by all means do so. The important thing is to have eyes on both walls in case of snipers - flying over the wall and over the main crowd does that just as well as you sticking to the wall. Alternatively, If Bartomous has enough range on his magic he can take the wall and you can fly over the crowd on the ground. For the most part we should all be mobile except for Zander and Stock. If you see something suspicious in the next zone over then check it out.

We also just don't have enough people to cover everywhere. We'll have to focus on the closer areas - if a sniper or mage takes a potshot at him from the distance then they'll be so far a way a healing spell and rushing Drezz into the temple will be enough to keep him safe.


So, per Stohps stated plan, Zander and Stock would be zone A playing bodyguard. Delila would be in either 5 or 6, with either Bart or Arm taking the other wall. Stohp would be in the crowd 3, possibly cycling between 3 and 4. Bart or Arm would be the 2nd person in the ground crowd, mostly 4, maybe some 3. Regardless of where Armalad starts, she would be flying around sweeping with detect thoughts and visiting other nearby zones. 1,2, and 7 would be unguarded by the party.

Okay like Armalad has been saying her flying is going to last only 9 minutes and you are getting up there at 11:30 and the speech doesn't start until 1pm. So you can go zone or wander around checking out security. I imagine you'd want to save the flying until the speech actually starts...or until Drezz actually steps out from the temple.

There's a knock at the door and you see it's Gordo. He nods to you, "My lords and ladies, If you would like we can handle boarding from your roof. It would limit the number of people seeing you leave as I can take you directly out toward the lake and then up and around to the temple. I can take um, the regular sized folks in the first trip and then I can come back and take your two larger members in the second run. I believe there is a back entrance on their patio."

In the temple you are met by two paladins. They nod to Zanderallen. "Sir we are here to assist you. There is an anteroom where we had planned to put the politicians. But then it was pointed out to us that perhaps keeping all of them separate would be more prudent. So we've set aside some of the quarters for our guests. Please let us know how you would like to proceed."

At the front of the temple Lieutenant Lestrade is waiting to speak to you. "He nods to you. Good to be working with you again but I wish the circumstances were better. I have 20 men ready to be assigned. Also There's 10 of the palace guard that have placed themselves at our disposal for this event."

The guards have almost certainly managed this kind of thing before, or at least one of their captains would have. So Stohp doesn't tell them what to do, rather she asks them what their experience tells them about placement of guards and keeping things civil. Even beyond assassination attempts there are important crowd control duties the guards will likely have - keeping people orderly and preventing stage rushes by excited or angry crowds, that sort of thing.

Zander sighs in relief as he recognizes the guard lieutenant in charge. Since Lestrade is asking he's willing to provide advice on how he'd prefer the guard set up. "Lestrade, it's good to see you. We've got a plan of how we're going to setup, which I'd rather not discuss, no offense to you but the less people know the better. Please modify my placements if you have any better ideas, they are your men. But I think the best way to supplement our positions is the ten palace guard in front of the platform to hold back the crowd, then all of your men divided into pairs. Your most trusted pair at the doors of the cathedral in case we need to retreat inside. Then a pair on all the walls, outer and inner each side. Two pairs guarding the house (Zone 7) and the final three pairs patrolling around the main crowd. Thoughts?"

Lestrade nods but before he says anything one the temple paladins steps forward. "Sir, I respectfully request that you have myself and Erlic as the guards to the temple doors. Then Joan and Wilhelm can be guarding Drezz's room before the speech starts. Oh my name is Charles."

Lestrade smiles, "Well Stock I can see that Zanderallen has a grasp on things. But I think we have a few more teams for general 'floor' duty in the crowd." see the map for disposition of men.

He then looks at everyone. "Some people are starting to gather now. Do you want to patrol some to see if there's anything we may have missed or anyone that is already acting suspicious? Granted we could do that, but it's big area to cover and there's going to be several hundred people up here, if not a few thousand. I understand that the Overlord is contracting some sort of magical to help broadcast the speeches to other places in the Float since our entire population of 51,203 can't possibly fit in this area. And there's a variety of street performers staring their acts to entertain the crowds and such as well."

Delia also tries to remain unseen on her patrol, looking out across the other zones with her spyglass.

Zanderallen nods as Lestrade makes the adjustments to the guard dispositions. "That should cover us as far as security goes. If anyone wants to conduct some presweeps I'll stay with Drezz and get him warmed up for the speech." In the room Zander works to make sure Drezz is relaxed and ready to go. As they approach speech time he has a couple more protections to cast on Drezz before they leave the cathedral.

The perceptions you rolled last time allow you to see a few things. To get more detail you need to make some more rolls, sometimes one sometimes two.

Armalad spots the two guardsmen on this level talking with a man in front of a food cart. He appears to be selling a variety of shish-kabob type foods. The kabob's look to be over a foot long from where she is. She can't overhear the conversation but there's some hand gesturing going on.

Stohp see's a street performer juggling knives close to the edge of the stage. He looks nervous.

Bartomus found a good place to stand and look over the crowd gathering below. He caught sight of someone moving against the flow of the crowd and at an angle and tried to keep the swimming upstream person in his sights.

" 'cuse me," the voice was a bit higher and he only heard it because he felt a tug on his kilt. He tried keeping the man moving against the crowd in his sight, but had to look down as there was another tug.

Bartomus looked down and there was a very small child pulling on his kilt. The child was stocky and had bushy eyebrows looking up at him with a slight twist to its closed lips.

"Yes?" Bartomus asked and tried to smile slightly as it seemed that the child was worried.

"I can't find my mama. Can you see my mama?" The voice was higher pitched and there was a quiver to it. Bartomus sighed softly and nodded down at the lost little one. He knelt down to be a bit closer.

"Sure, sure, what's your mama look like and what is she wearing?"

"She's got blonde hair and a blonde beard." The child, and Bartomus was pretty certain a dwarven girl, said without hesitation. "I call her mama, but other people call Geira. We're Stonglocks."

Bartomus nodded as she spoke and then she thrust her small hand out at him. He chuckled and carefully let her grasp two of his fingers which she shook. His smile grew and he chuckled.

"Well, now, we should be able to find her. Here's my question though, did you lose her up here or down below, little miss?" Bartomus asked with a slight nod.

"Oh, up here, I am sure of it. I tried seeing down there, but had to pull myself up on my tip toes and then she wasn't next to me, but you were. I am Armata."

Armata let his fingers go and tilted her head. Bartomus nodded and focused his gaze on her which knitted his brows together and Armata became a bit nervous.

"Alright then, Armata Stronglocks, I am Bartomus with the Silver Shields. What I am thinking is maybe you could climb up on my shoulders, hold on to my horns and we can find your mama together, watcha think?"[b/]

The dwarf's eyes went wide and she smiled. [b]"Sure, Mr. Bartomus.


Armata scampered up onto his shoulders and Bartomus used to his glave to steady his slow rise as he stood up. He glanced back out at the crowd below but couldn't see the man and sighed but then turned towards the crowd that had gathered where he was at. He didn't see anyone with blond hair, but suddenly heard a loud excited squeel and the shout of "MAMA."

Numerous masked heads turned his direction and gave the odd pair an even odder set of stares. But, one of the heads that turned about had a blonde braided beard hanging below the bottom of a cat mask. That woman's eyes went wide and scampered over to where Bartomus and Armata were.

"Child what are you doing up there on this poor man's shoulder and why weren't you were I told yo to be at all times, RIGHT NEXT TO ME." Bartomus did his best not laugh as it was pretty clear that the latter question was anything but that. He could hear a bit of a whimper from Armata.

"Ma'am, I may have cut her off without realizing it when I came up the stairs and stepped up to the wall there to look at the cathedral. Your little one asked if I could help her find you. Us Silver Shields are always willing to help someone lost find their folk."

As Bartomus spoke, he started to kneel back down leaning on his glave. Armata's mother was less than pleased, but seemed to relax a good deal as she listened to what Bartomus said. As he finished, her eye went up and she smiled. Armata climbed down using Bartomus' horns and bent knee as needed. She eventually jumped down and stepped next to her mother.

"Thank you Mr. Bartomus." Armata said with a strong voice. She looked up at her mother and smiled very innocently. Her mother looked back at Bartomus and he simply nodded at her and smiled.

"Alright, little miss, mind your mum and enjoy the event. Going to be lots of talking, but you can watch all of the people and their masks. Nice to meet you Armata of the Stronglocks." There were a few more nods and then her mother's hand took Armata's and off they went. Bartomus chuckled into his mask and laughed when Armata's head swung back to look at him with a giant smile on her face and a slow exaggerated wink.

He turned back to see what was occurring below.

Armalad cannot decipher a thing between the gesturing of the gaurdsmen and the kabob vender but the length of the kabobs make her do a double take and let out a curse in Elvish as she realizes the kabobs may be crossbow bolts. She explains the situation to her familiar as they make their way to the vendor

She hurries over to where the vendor is flashing her badge as Joker calls out, "Oi, you got a loicense for those crossbow bolt kabobs you got there?"

Armalad says, "You! By Authority of the Overlord I demand you allow me to search your cart for hidden weapons. Any weapons found will be confiscated by the same authority and you may be subjected to fine or imprisonment as Float Law allows. Do you understand? If we don't find anything and you are just selling abnormally large shish kabob then given the sensitive nature of this venue you are still going to have to move your cart to another location farther away from the stage and outside of crossbow range as your cart could be a false positive for our security sweeps."

She then proceeds to tell the guardsmen that are standing by the cart and Joker to help her thoroughly search both the shish-kabob cart and the vendor himself for illicit weapons.

Zanderallen almost blinks in surprise at the priests offer. Politicians having to speak in a Zone of Truth, he'd never considered it before. No wonder the council lords were so good at saying a bunch of words without any meaning to them. "That aid would be much appreciated. And yes let's get Oath-binders called. If there are any concerns with Flower or her priests unduly favoring Drezz their inclusion may help. And would be on hand if any deals need to be brokered between candidates."

The vendor's eye's budgle at Armalad and then makes to run. Fortunately the guardsmen are keyed up and as soon as he makes a move they pounce on him. There maybe a sap being used on the vendor by one of the guards. Searching the cart reveals that there is a heavy crossbow strapped to the bottom of the food cart. The guards will drag off the offender. Food in the cart is now untended....

The group keeps vigilant but nothing else grabs their attention. The Overlord arrives at the temple and takes a seat on the the temple steps. She whispers to any Shield that gets near. "We have a lot riding on this, is everything prepared? I know you are the best hope we have of this coming off successfully."

Two priests of Alemi arrive.

Time ticks.
11:55, any spells that need to get cast on Drezz assume you have enough time to go back and get them cast. Next post will start the speech.

Armalad renews her Toros Taur Try spell on both her and Joker and then prepares to cast Fly and Detect Thoughts when the speech begins doing her plan of buzzing between 1,5,3,4,7 as her 9 minutes of flight time allows and scanning the crowd for surface thoughts that may indicate trouble makers.

(OOC: not sure if you mean the speech starts next post or if we are planning to do something dynamically in time with the speech we go at the same time so I'll include the effects of fly and detect thoughts)

If Armalad's flight coincides with the speech she will turn her 60 foot cone toward a group of the crowd and focus for 3 rounds trying to look for any surface thoughts that could be dangerous to Drezz before moving onto another area. She will keep a close eye on the time and when her flight gets close to 9 minutes she will try to land on either the tower at 7 or the wall at 1.

Right before the speeches start, Delia casts Barkskin and Longstrider on herself. She also hangs her rope of climbing on the wall facing the crowds to give herself a quick way down if needed.

Bartomus watched the crowd grow and saw some commotion off in the distance, but shrugged and looked about the areas he was focused on. He could sense the crowd focusing on the stage and he started to worry a bit more.

He quickly did the movements for the spell that hardened his skin and started studying the area around the stage trying to determine how far it was from him and the stairs down from the area he was standing.

Stock takes up his position OOC Like a bouncer at a concert and pops the cork on a vial, downing it. He feels his senses sharpen and his muscles twitch a little from the potion. He settles in and grumbles about how it's difficult to see over all these humans when you are a dwarf.

Zanderallen smiles at the Overlord, "Ma'am, this place is locked down about as tight as can be without declaring martial law. Someone can still make an attempt but I'll give their chances about a snowflakes chance in hell."

He then starts his last minute preparation, tightening his straps for the umpteenth time and making sure all weapons are in position. His plate mail gleams in the open air level. He turns to Drezz, giving him final instructions and prep talk, "Alright Drezz, this is it. You only need to worry about one thing, telling people the truth. Remember, just stick with me and everything will be fine. Now let's go kick some Diamond Lords in the teeth."

When the time comes he opens the temple doors, looking around to get the all clear signal from the teams before stepping aside to let Drezz step forth. He takes a position right behind him all the way up to the stage, outwardly calm but whole body tensed for action.

The priests prepare the way and announce that they will be taking turns casting zone of truth. They will stand off to left side of the stage (if you were facing the stage). The priests of Alemi come forth with Drezz. Drezz nods to the priests and says "I swear that all that I shall say and reveal is the truth." He turns to the crowd and takes OFF HIS MASK, "People of the Float, I want you to know this is me, not someone else hiding behind a mask. The Lords of Diamond are built on secrecy these are not street kids shaking down local merchants. These are businessmen and aristocrats who have built a small empire, but one that is not well organized. Each Lord of Diamond has his or her own agenda, plan, or pet project. They use extortion, drugs, slavery, murder, fraud, whatever their means to achieve their goal and score points against each other. Yes to them it's a game, with a score card. The Float is their board, and many of you are the pawns, obstacles, and goals."

He continues, "Nobody knows who these men or women are, who controls them, who leads them. Nobody has known for 500 years. But today, I stand before you with a secret of my own. Ten years ago I learned that my sister was slain in the city, it was a most horrible death. I'm sure you'll recall the story in the Weekly Bugle, it was quite sensational. He provides enough detail that it will spark memories but not graphic enough to scare the crowd But what was not reported was that she was an agent of the Overlord. And she had been charged with trying to seek out the Lords of Diamond and see if they were real and what they were up to. Well with her death I found her diary, and it seemed she did find them and in turn they found her and dealt with her. So I went to the Overlord and offered my services to try to pick up where she left off. Mine is a quest for revenge a quest I still have not fulfilled. But I did manage to join them I am in fact one of the Lords of Diamond! And I have evidence and proof of the identities of several of the Lords of Diamond!"

Armalad as you fly around and do your detect thoughts, What's she doing flying around? I got to move the guy in front of me smells. Rabble Rabble. It was three years ago. Lords of Diamond aren't real. Lords of Diamond are responsible for all the misery in the Float. That Zanderallen looks cute. Look at the dwarf trying to be a big man. Where's the rest of the Shields? I thought he would be taller. Hold on to your potatoes. Oh I remember that. It's getting more and more absurd. We are at war with the Lords of Diamond, right here in my own city. The largest criminal organization in the world. I don't understand. I'm not paying for any damages.

Stock turns slightly at the commotion and sees Drezz with his mask off. He smiles behind his mask and his attention returns to in front of the dais. His eyes slowly scan left to right, close to far, trying to look big and trying to look over the heads of all these humans. He refrains from jumping to see over them, barely.

Zanderallen stands at parade rest behind Drezz, eyes scanning the crowd and surrounding area. (He's getting nervous if the crowd looks like page 2) But he trusted the palace guard to appropriately hold back the crowd. He is half listening to Drezz, the man seemed to have the crowd's attention. A good start if he could bring it home. His gaze flickers from spot to spot where he knows his fellow Shields and the guard should be stationed, looking for any of them to spot trouble in their zone and give signal.

Anyone over 20 on Perception, see's 4 individuals easily working their way forward from zone 4, they are just behind the first row of people in zone 3. They don't appear armed or armored, but they are all dwarves.

Anyone over 22 on Perception, a guard has climbed to the roof of both the west side and south side first building inside the blue wall. They are alone, and don't have a partner. They do appear to have long bows, something the guard doesn't normally carry.

People were still listening to Drezz talk while Bartomus continued his surveillance. Four dwarves were heading towards the dais and that was odd. They were not sitting, or just standing to listen, they were moving. Then he saw someone climbing up onto the building below and to his left of the wall, he was on. He glanced across the crowd and saw another guard do the same. Both were armed with bows.

"Guards don't usually use bows," Bartomus said aloud to no one in particular.

Then the dais alit in fire. He started moving along the wall towards the area where the bowman was. Glancing back, he figured he would lay the trap to prevent anyone from rushing the dais or make it very painful.


Another perception check - 30
Cast spike stones in the space between the front of the crowd in Zone 3 and around the front of the dais. Will create 20' squares per casting level - so 20' wide by as long as I can. Range is 230' (100+10/casting level). Zanderallen sees the red bead flying through the air, but it's moving way too fast to do anything. He covers up behind his cloak of resistance and lets it's protective magic take the worst of the blast. He still reels from his own burns and the burns transferred from Drezz, thankful Drezz only looked barely singed.

Combat reflexes take over almost immediately, he looks at the priests with pain but his charge is Drezz. Zander draws his shield and grabs Drezz around the shoulders with his shield arm, turning him towards the temple with his shield covering his back. "Inside, NOW! On me." He leads Drezz down from the stand and towards the temple, eyes alert for any immediate danger.

Armalad scans the trees but can't see anything. She does hear someone casting a spell. Spellcraft 19 Highlight to display spoiler: {someone cast dimension door}

The 4 dwarves I'm just going to call them what they are, crowd assassins surge forward with unnatural speed for most humanoids. They manage to avoid serious injury from Bartomus's spell. Three of them stop to engage Stock and Stohp. One continues around and tries to get to Drezz but Zanderallen places himself in the way.
1-3 are able to strike at Stock and Stohp (move speed 70, so they spend 40 in the spike stone area, and still had enough to make it to you. However I'm giving the guards get a AOO on them.

Zanderallen has singular purpose, keep Drezz alive and inside. If he could get Drezz out of line of sight of the archers he could handle the single assassin that made it through. He continues pushing Drezz towards the door, Heroically channeling positive energy to his allies while excluding the assassins. "OPEN THE DOORS!" he yells to the paladins. Upon reaching the door and getting Drezz inside he stops in the doorway drawing his sword to block the assassin. "Stay near me Drezz, we don't know if they have men in the temple."

speaking of favored enemy... are the bounty hunters human? If so, BH2 takes 4 extra damage from last shot. So that I make you do less math, what range penalty am I at?

Delia unloads on the bounty hunter she can see, cursing the Lords of the Diamonds for their willingness to send attackers after someone in the middle of a crowd.

(OOC I'm not sure how these tricks work, but Hawky is attack(all) trained, Fetch (The animal goes and gets something. If you do not point out a specific item, the animal fetches a random object.) trained, has spring attack, and is at 3 int. Can he Fetch someone's weapon? If it doesn't work, fine but I'm trying to figure ways for Hawky to be useful in combat)

Delia whistles the Fetch signal for Hawky (AC 23) and points at BH1's bow. If he can make it to the target(80ft fly), he will spring attack this round and replace his melee attack with a disarm attempt. If not, he will do it whenever he gets close enough

Armalad shoots her bow seeing a still invisible figure crouching behind the podium on the stage. The figure wasn't there before. She shoots at him. Just barely hitting him (Really Nonleathal damage?)

Stock unleashes the inner beserker, but doesn't kill his target. (they have Purity of Body, making them immune to all normal and magical disease, granted sickened isn't diseased, but I would say he's immune to your feat)

Zanderallen keeps moving and pushing Drezz.

Delia shoots with vengeance (yes they are human) and he goes down! I'd say 500 feet for the one you killed, 300 feet for the dwarves at the stage, the mage is invisible).

Zanderallen doesn't even slow as the monk attempts to hit a nerve point. He gets a little nervous as the paladins converge on him but relaxes from that potential danger as they offer healing. He turns to face the assassin, holding the doorway as he transitions his shield to protect himself now that Drezz has cover from the door. "I happen to be rather opposed to assassination as a means of political discourse. And the Diamond Lords in particular. NOW DIE!" Zander attempts to smite the assassin in front of him.

Bartomus wanted to move closer to the arrow sooner, but wasn't sure that was the best approach. He called down two more books of lightening on the Archer as he scanned the area

using both standard action to call bolts down, 9, 11..reflex save against 17 on each bolt to save half on each.

Stohp gets up and tries to trip her opponent but fails. Then she moves to the temple (location?) And moving a standard move away is going to provoke an AOO.
Armalad preps her bow and shoots an arrow at the mage sniper
Stock hits his opponent who goes down on the first swing and then takes a 5 foot step You can take a 5-foot step before, during, or after your other actions in the round. I'm interpreting that to mean your other attacks can go to the other monk.
Delia, Hawky grabs the bow CMD is 30, but a nat 20 always hits, however, fetch as the animal trick is not considered a CMB attack, fetching without improved disarm is needed to avoide AOO, I'm ruling the bow is grappled. The mage slumps over.
Zanderallen calls on his holy vengeance but finds it really doesn't help him in this battle.
Bartumus um you only get 1 standard action, and then a move action calls down a lighting bolt.

Armalad seeing the invisible mage assassin fall over decides to go after the bounty hunter on the roof seeing as how the mage is apparently out of commision.

She moves towards Bounty Hunter 1 remembering her orders were to see to range attackers and even though he no longer has the bow, hopefully her, Delia and Hawky can drop him before helping with the monks.

My thought with the lack of Hawky's feat was if the archer had his bow equipped, then he wouldn't have a weapon to take a AoO with to matter. Hawky also does have spring attack so he could have grabbed it and flown back out of reach with bow in claw.Hawky: AC 23(27 vs movement AoO), HP 41/64

Hawky attempts to maintain the grapple and completely fails. Hearing his human's whistle, he retreats, taking the AoO (AC up to 27 from mobility)

Delia flinches as Hawky screams in anger and pain at the bounty hunter and whistles him off. She will shimmy down the rope of climbing she set up earlier, say the command word to unhook it around 10 feet off the ground, and take off at a run towards Zone 6 to get a better and closer angle, preferably to get a line on the one who hurt Hawky. If Armalad is within 30 feet of the Bounty Hunter she will tell Joker, "Fog cloud cover please, 4 squares"

Joker will use his wand of silent image (UMD: 37) to oblige and create the illusionary fog in a 4x4 square covering where he and his master are flying.

Armalad has to make a DC 11 Will Save (22) to disbelieve.

(OOC: I'll roll a full attack and if she still has to move toward the bounty hunter she'll only move and make a single attack)

The bruises from the pesky monk are starting to stack up. He keeps trash talking the dwarven monk in their native language, "You don't look so good. Why don't you just back off and I'll go take care of your friends"

Zander knows he'll be sore tomorrow but for the moment his armor protects him from the worst of the attacks. The only real pain he suffers is that transferred from Drezz. His mind races as he takes in the current situation. Two assassins, two dead paladins, limited help in the immediate vicinity. Time for plan B. "Drezz, GET IN!" With little time to explain Zander drops his sword to have a hand free. Pulling the draw strings all the way open on his Type IV Bag of Holding he "helps" Drezz inside. Pulling it shut behind him, and drawing his warhammer from his belt. "Looks like you've got to get through me now boys."

Armalad moves forward with cover and shoots an arrow.

Delia shoots at a monk... (he has AC 33 on your fire round, so only the first hits, he has deflect arrow so he can deflect 1, I'm assuming you're firing two arrows on your first shot? You didn't specify.)...however the one arrow that hits him is enough to put him down.
Bartomus drops another bolt on the archer, and moves down the stairs.
Zanderallen (oh i forgot to half his damage last round...adjusted, give yourself 9 damage) stuffs Drezz into his bag of holding, it's a tight fit. The maneuver is unexpected by the dwarves, and it's only 5 foot so not sure it provokes).

Zanderallen looks down at his empty hand, then at the monk his disarmed him. Then he looks at his shield, securely strapped to his arm, and grins. With a quick touch to heal some of his wounds he heroically calls upon the power of Domi to empower his shield before repeatedly bashing the monk in Stohp's arms in the face.

(OOC: If Armalad was outside of 30 feet of the bounty hunter she wouldn't have had Joker use the wand. The wand does nothing for her if she isn't within 30 feet of whatever she is attacking, otherwise if she was within 30 feet when she attacked then the sneak attack + deadly aim should have applied but it looks like the cloud happened but the extra damage didn't but I only wanted the cloud if it would get me sneak attack)

Armalad sees the bounty hunter get away and the unusual tactic that Zanderallen employs and figures it is time for one of her own. She heroically casts true strike and then imbues one of her arrows with resilient sphere and then fires at Zanderallen knowing that although the arrow will hurt it is only nonlethal damage

Bartomus watched the runner do just that and while his attention at the ruckus up front. Seeing two flee from their Shields opponents, he calls down a 5th bolt of lightening at the closest one one his dude of the stage area.

With the wall of force protecting the fleeing monks just as much as it protects him he watches them run, raging at being unable to pursue them for a moment before reason kicks in that he would be equally unable to catch them whether the bubble was there or not. He instead takes the reprieve to catch is breath and retrieve Drezz from the bag. "We're safe in here. Plus it appears the assassins are all either dead of fleeing. You Ok?" Zander winces as the movement reveals several large dents in his plate that will need to be mended.

This has all happened so quickly that the crowd has barely had a chance to react. About 25% of zone 3 is in the process of fleeing. The other 75% are watching the train wreck. Few of the people in zone 4 have left.

C3 and C4 suddenly change direction and charge toward the crowd. They both easily clear the 20 foot spike stone barrier (Acrobatics 39 and 40). As soon as they land on the other side the zone 3 people scream and chaos ensues. They were fine with watching as long as the 'barrer' kept them safe. But now that the combatants have breached the barrier and are among them they panic. Screams go off, people surge against each other. Women and children go down in the press of bodies.

Bounty hunter 1 - west roof
Jumps down from the roof (acrobatics 28) rolling with the landing and coming up running. He's ahead of the throng that has broken out in zone 3 behind him but is about equal to the first batch of people that broke when the fireball went off.

Drezz starts to answer and hears the screams from the crowd. He shuffles forward in the sphere out of the temple now. "We must stop this, people will be injured." He tries shouting to gain the populaces attention. "Citizens! Please. Remain Calm! Panic leads to chaos!" (Diplomacy 17...not quite enough).

Delia gives the fleeing monks a long look, but decides firing into the crowd at that range isn't a good idea.

Armalad keeps shooting.
Bartomus decides intimidating the crowd is the way to go.
Stock limps up the stairs.
Delia goes into the crowd.
Zanderallen lends a voice of calm.

The crowd was on the verge of bolting but Zanderallen's voice seems to have backed them down a bit. They are still a bit on edge. Delia weaving among them doesn't spot anything untoward. She helps a few people back to their feet.

The bounty hunter lifts a sewer lid and jumps down the hole.

The monks, being monks, run (move 70x4). They gain the area where the sewer grate has been lifted and jump down as well.

Combat is over.

There's 1 human bounty hunter body being dragged forward by two guards.
There's two dwarven monk bodies down in front of the podium.
There 1 human spell caster of some kind lying on the podium.

Zander thanks Armalad for letting him out and let's Drezz say his piece from the temple stairs. He is about to escort him down to join the rest of the Shields when he hears the murmuring of the crowd. He pauses, thinking, and decides if their hand has been dealt on who to support politically they might as well go all in. "Well said Drezz but there seems to be some doubt among the people, let me convince them." He moves beside Drezz, removing his mask and looking over the crowd, "I, Zanderallen of the Silver Shields, stand unmasked before you and the gods and declare, I believe Drezz. Flower has marked him, the Lords of Diamond have tried to silence him with assassins, even attempted to silence this very debate. Who has the motivation to do that other than the very men he just named? Listen to their words if you will, we must get Drezz to safety for his sake as well as your own. May the gods bless those slain by the assassins of the real Lords of Diamond." If Rothchild, DeChancy, or Gilcrest are around he casts them a look of righteous hate before putting his mask back on and leading Drezz down to where the Shields are inspecting the assassins. The hate turns to tears as he looks at the bodes of the slain clergy.

The wizard is just barely alive. (He's not going to reveal anything, he just has a standard Flyer/bulletin calling for Drezz dead, for 25,000 gold, to collect on completion). The bounty hunter has a flyer from the bounty hunter's guild putting a bounty on Drezz dead, for 25,000 gold. It looks like you had a couple of different groups all trying to take out Drezz at the same time.

The crowd reacts to Zanderallen's endorsement with suitable oohhs and aahhs. They nod with praise. There's a lot of "That's good enough for me." comments.

Lord Marcus Rothchild and Gerard Gilcrest refuse to come out of the temple. They are righteously angry but unwilling to face the crowd right now to try and spin it differently.

Bartomus was lost in watching everyone escape and really didn't clue into the fact that the ruckus was over until someone nudged him to help retrieve the bodies. He dashed over to do so and soon joined in with the others looking over what they could salvage from the attackers.

"Giant strength could be helpful for me, if it would fit I guess."

Sorry not sure if I missed monday's post or not with the time difference. Perception was a complete fail.

Stohp reflects that the multiple groups after Drezz is a blessing and a curse. It means they could probably expect more attempts, but they are unlikely to be coordinated and thus less dangerous.

Zanderallen makes sure to collect his weapons from where they had been dropped and disarmed. Then when everyone is grouped up he channels energy to take the edge of their numerous wounds. He offers his bag of holding to help get all the loot home. "We'd better get moving soon. Drezz, how would you feel swinging by your hiding hole and picking up that evidence? You just called them out, you're going to need to back those words up soon. Then we need to get secure at home."

Stock helps pack up the assorted loot and gives Z a tired look. "Thanks for the healing, buddy.

I imagine we should travel in a pack with Drezz to get his stuff, then head back home. We really need some guards or an alarm system or something back at the HQ. The locks on the doors and even the windows seem inadequate if we're not always there."

(Amulet of Natural Armor would be slightly useful to me when I don't have a chance to cast Barkskin and I'll take and/or split the regular arrows with Armalad.
I could use the ring of protection +2 and cloak of resistance +2 if no one closer to harm's way can make use of it.
I'm at xp to level up and will be able to do so this weekend at the latest - and my ooc is longer than my in character. Oops?)
