Stock thinks someone owes them.

Lord Rothchild cocks an eyebrow at Bartomus.
Lord Yeager responds, "We are still working with the merfolk to fully outline our diplomatic and economic relations. There's a lot of past history to work through."

The older fisherman turns to Zanderallen, "Well sir we have a good crew, but there's only so much space on board. We've a crew of 8, and can fit your group," He pauses and eyes the two minotaurs, "reasonably well. But a rower can't row to beat a turtle long. I guess we can hire 6 more crew that would allow enough to take turns at the oars, but then the boat would bet fairly crowded." He scratches his chin, "Reckon that with good winds and some strong backs we could have you on the western shore in 2 maybe 3 hours or so."

DM aside the forced march is because moving through the forest is going to be difficult terrain and I assume you're going to be in a hurry. So actually if Delia has the right feats it may not even be difficult terrain for her.

Zanderallen scans Malici and detects no evil.

Micah diplomatically queries Malici I really should have considered a non M name for him, but that would also eliminate S names for sure, as well as B, Z, D, and O now. Malici smiles and offers the coin again.

And as stated previous Ohen detects: the medallion radiates overwhelming: Universal, Conjuraction, Divination, multiple Enchantment, and Transmutation. [i]I just checked and Ohen did not follow up on the schools I gave him. Weird, arcane sight keeps saying like detect magic, but detect magic requires a knowledge arcane check to detect schools, and arcane sight says spellcraft to detect schools, but then can determine more based on detect magic, but then detect magic states use spellcraft after knowledge arcane to detect properties of an item. Very confusing. I will allow you to use either Spellcraft or Knowledge Arcane to determine possible spells involved on the Medallion, ROLL HIGH, REALLY HIGH.[i]

Ohen sees that Malici is a sorcerer between 9 and 12th level.

Sid reads the note. It's in draconic. It pretty much says what Tanglefoot told you.

Tanglefoot looks at his hand and then starts patting his robes and looking around on the floor.

Overlord Aerashkiel addresses the Silver Shields. "I leave this in your hands for now. Paragon Belkior will you see to means of staying in touch with the Silver Shields. The rest of us have duties that must be performed." She looks at all the council and then rises and exits the room.

Belkior bows to Aerashkiel. After she leaves he turns to you, "I believe I have a few feather tokens back at the temple."

Stock nods to Ohen, "Yeah as much as I hate being teleported I appreciate its usefulness. I'm sure the folks in the Catacombs would be willing to put it down on paper for you for one time use as well...alas we probably don't have time for shopping at present."

Then to the council he says, "You need to screw your pride to the sticking place and make nice with the merfolk, even if just for now. The guard is good, but having a below-the-water naval force is better; especially now that you have multiple hostile forces in the area. Even if you are not ready to make them your allies, I'm fairly certain they are the enemy of your enemies.

Paragon Belkior - we have an extra pair of ring gates. Can we use them as a communication channel?"

We still have the Ring Gates. The DM heavily hinted we'd want to make use of them in the module although they are currently off our WBL.

Zanderallen nods to the fisherman, "You'll have a bonus on top if you can get us there that quickly. we'll be at the dock as soon as we can." He clears Malici and offers a hand, "Sorry to submit you to that, but these are uncertain times. Your help would be appreciated."

He bows to the council, "We will report as soon as we learn anything. Then we will quickly stop by the temple Lord Belkior, then home to gear up, and then the dock."

Zanderallen moves to follow Belkior to the temple, doing his best to refrain from picking up and carrying the short legged halfling.

Micah nods thanks to Malici after he passes the examinations. "I am off to my quarters to get my equipment. Would you care to join me?" he offers.

When Stock speaks, the priest's mien goes blank, attempting to hide his mirth at the discomfort the dwarf's words surely caused.

With or without the half dragon, he heads back to get his armor and other gear.

Yeah I noticed the discrepancy with Arcane Sight. I just used Detect Magic's rules. Knowledge (Arcane) to determine school, and Spellcraft to determine properties. In the end, it doesn't matter, because I add the same +15 to Knowledge (Arcane) and Spellcraft. I meant for my February 20 post to be a 24 Knowledge (Arcane) to determine school, and the Spellcraft natural 20, total of 35, to determine properties or spells. Let me know if I should make more rolls for other properties.

Sid hides the note in his hand and says to Corbin, "We'll do what we can as fast as we can. Don't lost faith." on the way out he pats Tanglefoot, "It'll be ok. Your people are strong and we don't forget our friends." During the exchange he plants the note in Tanglefoot's pocket. "I'll meet you at HQ!" Sid says and darts to his home to pack and prepare.

Stock's comments stop some of the council people from leaving. Lady Asking says, "Impertinent." and leaves in what you assume is a huff. Lord Rothchild simply looks down his nose at you, sniffs with disdain and leaves. Lord Yeager says, "Rather harsh words sir." and also leaves. Belkior sighs and shakes his head, "For better or worse there's always someone that blurts things out." He smiles at Stock to take the sting out of his words. "Friend Stock, I fear you may have made some enemies today, and you are as a babe when dealing the political game. Come let's be off, but if you have those ring gates that would be the fastest and most secure method of staying in contact. I'll have a temple acolyte on duty all the time to observe the ring for any messages you pass through."

Corbin nods to Sid. "You're a good lad. I trust you'll do right by Cutter." He heads out.

The two fisherman say, "We'd best get moving to hire some people this time of day."

AS you recall, you came here in the late afternoon, at this time it is now suppertime. Given what you know by the time you get ready and then head out, you'll probably make landfall as night is just starting. Though that would put you on shore to begin your journey as soon as the sun came up.

Jasper says, "Oh, thank you. It's makes me miss working for you to see how you jump in to help others." He looks up at Stock. "The Paragon is right though, the rulers weld power you can't even think of, like sudden rezoning of your residence, or something like that. Best make nice when the opportunity presents itself again."

Tanglefoot nods and suddenly grabs Sid in a hug. "Thank you. You have done so much for my people and for me. You did saved me from certain death with the trolls, and of course then you saved the whole village from invasion." He lets Sid go and then pats his pocket again and finds the note. He shakes his head, "I thought I checked that pocket."

Malici watches the interchange between Tanglefoot and Sid (note the note passing, just the actions and words). Then he nods to Micah. "As I'm not that sure of my way around your fair city I think it best I accept your gracious offer."

Ohen gazes long and hard at the medallion. One can almost see the glow in his eyes twirling like twin whirlpools. Ohen only Highlight to display spoiler: {You're pretty sure that some of these spells are in play when creating the medallion: Wish, Geas, Permanancy, Major Creation, and Nondetection. Certainly not all the spells in use simple from the amount of aura's you detect.}

The party exits the council chamber and makes a quick stop at the temple to Alemi, where Belkior is also the high priest. One of the ring gates is exchanged.

Any last minute shopping?
Next post will have you leaving at the wharf...unless you want to do anything else. Remember you have not ate dinner, and you will be arriving on shore after the sun has set. It is currently mid spring as no one has really given me any time of season otherwise.

Bartomus was lost in his thoughts until Stock called out the Council's leadership. He didn't disagree with Stock, rather just sat there slowly nodding his head in agreement. He also continued to nod in agreement with Belkior's assessment of the situation.

"Jaspar, we miss you as well. It would be great if we can help though, not fair that these marauders have attacked you all," Bartomus said and just shrugged at the comment that Stock and probably everyone else would need to make amends for the statement of the obvious.

"You two, I am wondering if we might on the sail drop a message or a dozen to the merfolk? Not sure how we would do that...maybe something bright and shiny with a message inside. Could we drop glowing weighted floats every hour or two with some type of message attached?" While Bartomus directed that back at the two fishermen, but really looked about the Shields. "They may not like it, but Stock is absolutely right about needing everyone to help and that included the MerKing and his court if possible."

Delia tries to cover a snort with a cough at Stock's callout of the Council. As members of the council huffily leave, she leans over and mutters, "The Float probably did things just as terrible as what they're mad at the Merfolk for doing. People aren't magically nicer just because they don't have gills or a tail. People who are actively trying to kill you are much worse than people who used to try to kill you and have decided not to anymore."

Delia will introduce herself to Jasper and promises that, even though she is new to the Shields, she's just as willing to help his city.

Delia is ready to go whenever everyone is ready. (Benefits of only have work clothes.) She will help in any way she can to speed up preparations.

Stock smiles at the interactions and then nods to Paragon Belkior. "It's a fair point but what they may just need to be reminded of is that while they are playing politics, I am not. I, along with the other Shields, will just keep saving the day. I will allow it is wise council nonetheless and thank you for your honesty."

To the rest he says, "I will jog ahead and have Happy box up some meals for us and the crew.

Delia- does Hawky have any dietary requirements?"

Zanderallen nods to the fishermen and Stock as they announce plans of action, he thanks the paragon for being their point of communication and leaves him one of the rings. He quickly makes his way through the city back to headquarters. Once there he removes his fancy clothes, and switches to his rugged adventuring gear and armor. Making sure all his equipment is properly stashed he grabs several bags of gold and makes his way down to the docks with whoever else is ready. He glammers his plate armor to look like normal clothes.

Micah escorts Malici back to their quarters, but stops along the way to buy some supplies, grabbing a couple of flasks of acid and two flasks of alchemist fire. "Tanglefoot's mention of trolls reminded me that I have been wanting to have some of these on hand," he explains to his new companion.

Once at the Shields' home, Micah gives his guest a quick tour of the ground floor and makes sure he has something to drink and eat before heading to his chamber to retrieve his armor and other adventuring gear.

Sid stops for supper on the way, bringing a few things that Elly loves and one or two treats for her apprentice. He explains what is going on with the Float and the surrounding area to Elly only, after supper and they spend a few minutes alone. He promises to come back, as always, and let's her know that Torbin might need assistance and that Tanglefoot might need a friend. She's always been better at that than he has and he wants to make sure that people have the support that they need. She knows her limits and skills and he trusts her.

When he is done making sure he has fresh tea and food in his HHH he heads to the docks after a long goodbye.

Delia smiles at Stock's concern for Hawky, "Thanks for thinking of him. He'll eat anything that used to breath though. I'll go with you to help carry food, and to get some of his favourites. Do you think Happy has any extra beef kidneys lying around?..."

She'll jog along with Stock to the Giggling Ghost and the on to the Shield's next meeting point, whistling to call Hawky to her from where he was waiting right outside the council building. She'll then ask, "Do the Shields often get called to speak to the council? If so, I'll have to get used to them..."

Ohen stares at the medallion, his eyes swirling and glowing, twin pools of gold. After a while, he comes to himself with a start, and nods as if satisfied.

Later on when the Shields are alone together, he'll talk to all of them.
"I was able to see some of the properties of that medallion. It has powerful magics on it, magic powerful enough to warp the fabric of reality (wish). Malici's has also been put under a powerful compulsion by it (geas). I think it would be wise to try and determine if that compulsion is as harmless as traveling here, or is more sinister. There is permanency magic on it, as well as creation magic (major creation). And we were told that it resists scrying (nondetection). There was definitely more besides that."

While shopping.
"Given the number and uh... size," Ohen's eyes flick briefly to the Taurs, "of our group, buying scrolls of teleport would not be feasible. I will try to figure it out on my own."

All the Shields gather at the doc and find the fishing boat with which they had set up a contract. Stock and Delia arrive with food. The boat crew quickly munch it down. While the others wait. The boat captain, Ahab, rubs his hands together. When he learns of Bartomus's thought about dropping messages to the Merfolk he shakes his head. "My understanding is that them Merfolk live deep in the lake, over 50 miles south the Float and however deep the bottom is. That would be a great detour and add days of travel onto your mission."

Malici scratches his head. "I don't feel any sort of compulsion other than to return to this area. I'm not sure of anything else. Perhaps it must be also keeping me here."

The boat crew makes ready. a lass, Sid has yet to show up.

Malici turns to the other Shields. "From that, let's see, his name was Tanglefoot right, well from what he said I take it you saved an entire village?"

The sun goes down behind the eastern mountain ranges when Sid finally comes waltzing down to the wharf. It's clear he's already eaten. In dusk the boat sets out. It's close packed in the craft It's 30 feet long and 18 wide. There's a single mast rising mid boat and three oars on each side. Ahab's crew seems competent.

It's a good thing you have the oars as the light wind seems mostly out of the south west. Unless someone has some control weather or wind related spells. The rowers break into some sea chanties to keep time. After a while the non-rowers keep the singing up, as the rowers need their breath to pull the oars. The second shift of rowers take over, and you see shore, dimly in the night. You make shore and disembark and Captain Ahab bids you ado. "Sorry for the late arrival. Circumstances were a bit out of my control though." He glances at Sid.

Jasper has been fairly quite all this time. In fact he's been asleep. But he wakes up when you hit shore and looks apprehensively at the forest.

It's night. Do you want to try and move forward or set camp here? What sort of camp, i.e. campfire or cold camp? Watches set?

"Not thinking it would be a wise thing to light a big old fire here on the beach and create a beacon in the night to call in the nightmares." Bartomus said as they huddled after coming ashore. He took a few steps towards the shore and just listened and then looked about. [b]"Don't like just sleeping here on the shore, but that might be a safe move.

When Delia asks about past meetings with the council, Stock shrugs, "Maybe every month or two we get called by Belkior...although it is growing more often. Best keep your eyes open with that crew. I believe most of them to be well meaning, especially Belkior. The rest though we've not yet gotten to know."

Later at the landing...

"I don't see a reason for us to force a march at night through the dark. Seems like some of us would trip through the woods...Anyway let's see about finding a place to bed down."

"We'll have to force a march through the forest once dawn comes anyway, but... I guess we don't have to start yet. Hawky and I normally take second or third watch, so we'll do that again. If it's alright."

She will also look for a good, sheltered campsite.

I don't know if the Shields normally take 4 or 3 watch shifts, but she will volunteer for any of the mid shifts. At the start of her watch, she would cast Darkvision on herself (lasts 7 hours).

Micah watches as Delia and Stock work to identify a camp site, nodding his appreciation to each. He takes the opportunity to stretch his own legs while they set up camp.

"Let us settle down for a proper meal, no fire needed, before we start are watches. Please give me some time while I pray for it," he explains as he sits down at the chosen site for an extended prayer. After about 15 minutes, the tone of his prayers change, obviously shifted into the casting of a ritual. When he has completed it, a magnificent table cover with find food and drink and fitted with enough chairs of the appropriate size for everyone, springs forth in their campsite. "Thanks be do Domi," he says as he sets the example by sitting at the table and helping himself.

While eating, he offers to cast darkvision on Delia. If she declines, he casts it on himself.

Prayed to fill open 2nd level slot with darkvision and open 5th level slot with Heroes' Feast. Provides 12 temporary hit points, +1 morale bonus on attack rolls and will saves, and +4 morale bonus on saving throws against poison and fear effects, and benefits of neutralize poison and remove disease for the next 12 hours--basically until the end of our watches.

Micah volunteers to take last watch. He casts darkvision on either Delia or himself, duration is 11 hours, being ready to start his morning prayers once others awake.

As they disembark Zander, with a short glare at a certain elf, thanks captain Ahab warmly, "You and your men did a fine job. I could not have asked for more. Here is the promised gold and bonus. We'll be contacting the Temple to Alemi to arrange our return so no need to wait for us. Safe return."

"Let's push far enough off shore to avoid being visible to roving pirates. Then we can get a good night's rest and start first thing in the morning. I will take 1st watch while there is still some light." He lays in heartily to Micah's prepared feast, bowing his head in thanks to Domi.

Stohp wonders how long the march will take As stated previously, but you were out will, it's 2 days march because of the difficult terrain.
Bartomus thinks it's wise not to sleep on shore.
Stock looks for a defensible place to make camp.
Micah lays out a feast....lasts for 12 hours, 8 of which you're in camp.
Zanderallen pays the boat crew.
Sid mumbles an apology while still not revealing he's newly wed.
Ohen volunteers for second watch.

Hmm, seems we have some questions about who's on what watch, let alone how long a watch is. Just an FYI, you may want to work out a marching order unless you're going to walk through the woods in a skirmish line. Might I suggest when you've gotten the bugs worked out...put in on your wiki page?

Stock and Delia manage to find a fairly good spot to set up a camp, as there's a small outcropping of rock just off the shoreline in the first area of trees. It's large enough to see over if you stand on your tip toes and wide enough to protect the entire party from prying eyes further in the forest.

Stock and Stoph manage to not volunteer for a watch and thus attempt to get a good night's sleep.

Malici observes the team pull off the campsite. He seems somewhat put off that no one addressed his question about their saving of the Lizard-folk village while on the cruise over to the shore. "I too can see in the dark and am willing to aid in your watches. I do not require a great amount of sleep."

Malici will take second watch with Ohen. To help pass the time he tries to engage in some quiet small talk with Ohen "I can see that you have some of the blood of dragons in your line. Do you find that others, I mean humans and such, tend to ostracize you for that? I've often found myself on the receiving end of persecution and thus have often had to move. Have you heard anything about this group's past exploits? I find it interesting that they don't seem to have a care about those they help in the past, not bothering to check up on them or keep up with them. Are they mercenaries?"

Fortunately this night passes uneventfully.

The morning will bring the start of your journey. You will be traveling in an old growth forest, that has few animal trails (the occasionally large beetle was actually hunted out and killed by the forest before the shift to the plateau.) It's going to be filled with large old trees, piles of dead leaves, vines, and lots of low shrubbery. While you don't need a marching order, you will find that having a trailbreaker (and possibly switching off for that position) is going to make things easier. NOTE Delia is not affected by the terrain and can move at normal speed.

Feel free to make any sort of traveling role checks you think might be useful.

Bartomus enjoyed being up and not only doing his daily meditations but also getting to watch the rising sun and its light upon the distant lake and nearby forest.

When they started off, Bartomus offered to help mark trail using his glave to cut away saplings that would help his colleagues follow along. He was comfortable in working his way through the brush and shrubs, as his growing up with the nomads of the plain made him accustomed to finding trails and avoiding trips.

"Jaspar, we need to commission a good road and path for you all with a right and proper dock on the lake's edge," he offered after slashing a few sapplings and briars. He was leaning on his glave and looking back at the others.

Bartomus has woodland stride, so that will help him to move along slashing trail marks with his glave. Perception 14; Survival 12

"It probably makes more sense for me to scout ahead with Hawky, but I can trailbreak if that's what we need. I've spent a lot of years doing this kind of thing for a handful of mercenary groups, so whatever you guys need I can do."

If trailbreaking, Delia will use her survival skills to try and lead the party through the animal trails and patches of lighter underbrush.

If scouting, Delia will stay within a reasonable distance of the group crashing through the woods and, if she finds an easier path direct them towards it, but mostly be on alert for dangers or signs/tracks of the enemies Jasper has warned them about and any other threats that make their home in the supposedly ex-spooky forest.

Regardless of what else Delia does, she will instruct Hawky to scout. He will maneuver through the trees overhead, trying to look like a regular old bird, and be on the lookout for any threats that he can detect. He has specific calls to inform Delia of immediate/close and far-off dangers, as well as general size of the threat.

"I must admit that I've been swept up quickly be this group, and do not know details of their past exploits, only that they are considered noble warriors and heroes of the Float. I have started to hear stories, though admittedly from their side. Who in particular have they not checked up on? "One would think the canopy would give more comfort than the open sky but it almost feels more unnatural somehow." He keeps his eyes and ears open as they travel, and whenever a particularly dense undergrowth halts their progress till a path is cut he opens his divine senses for the presence of evil.

Yes and I specifically asked about this at the beginning of the module which Stohp did role-play well. Part of this module is going to lead you to 'other things' down the line. But I would also like to point out that you do not, have an effective means of communication with all the groups you have 'helped', wherein you could....oops almost said too much.

On the Float is easy, you mostly interact with the Fence level, the Merchant level, and the Trash level.

Lizard Folk at Riverton: you have a contact through Tanglefoot their diplomat on the Float.

Beast Folk: you know Jasper and Zoule, but you have no way to interact/contact with them. They all left the Float and it's not like you can just call or text them.

Cutter (human village): I think you went there once, and have Torbin Cook as a contact on the Float.

Merfolk: you know King Atteun, but again there is no line of communication.

Bartomus marches in front hacking a trail but like Delia he is not too bothered by the undergrowth. Thus there's a time or two he fails to hack at things because he doesn't perceive them as an impediment. Fortunately, Stock is next and feels like working out some energy so what Bartomus misses he manages to whack soundly.

Delia finds the going pretty easy if a bit unnatural. This part of the forest still has no natural wildlife. It is quiet with only the wind rustling the young leaves as any counterpoint of sound to your parties loud slashing and marching. Delia does run across the remains of a giant beetle half smashed under a huge tree limb. It's almost like the limb just detached itself from the tree and fell on the beetle. Delia does manage to find some new berries, just ripe and some mushrooms. Enough for a snack for everyone, or for some seasoning of cold trail rations.

Jasper responds, "Well certainly that would be nice and it's on the to do list. But setting up a village isn't something that happens quickly. We've been busy working on the pyramid to clean it up and get some of the niceties of living arraigned. You don't realize how you depend on fresh running water in the Float, but out here it's a lot like a long term camping trip. We're getting there. Hopefully in a year we may get some sort of trail going, a road is a long ways off. Let's see how did the council phrase it...it has to be economically feasible. In other words we have to come up with something the Float wants, that is something we can sell at a profit you know."

Malici walks along listening to Jasper. "Mr. Jasper, I understand you've lived in the Float. May I suggest you consider what the Float has and what it doesn't have to try to come up with some form of commodity."

Malic looks at Ohen and Micah since they are closest in line. "Is there anything that you could suggest to your friend?"

Zanderallen and Sid find themselves trudging along at the rear. Zanderallen tries to envision all the leaves as just a big green roof.

In all you spot nothing more exciting. Thankfully the ancient Crying Wood even hated insects so there are hardly any bugs around to cause you problems. After a long day of travel you estimate that you've only covered 14 miles, and that not in a straight line, but rather in the path of least resistance. Jasper estimates that at this pace you should reach the pyramid about noon tomorrow. At the end of the day Bartomus and Stock are the only ones that reallyworked up a sweat having been trail breaking and chopping all day. Whew, there's a smell.

When you stop for the day Malici goes up to Stock and Bartomus, "Good sirs, if you would like I have a spell which would aid in cleaning one's self up."

Stohp is a little perturbed to find out they didn't have a solid trading plan before moving to the woods. For some reason she thought they had. "Food is a good option, right now the float has to import all of it's food. Well except what we catch in the lake. In theory beating the imported food prices should be easy as you'd have less transportation overhead but the lack of good roads makes any trading difficult as you can't transport things in bulk. What you need is something in the woods that is valuable in small quantities for easy transport until you can get a proper road built. Which here means some sort of plant probably." She sinks into thought, making various hrms and hums as she walks along.

When Malici asks about cleaning up, Stock looks down at himself, notices a loose twig and tosses it away, ignoring the stains from vegetation and sweat that have coated him. "I'm not too dirty yet...but sure, why not."

So Jasper - what are we likely to find when we get to the village? What kinds of enemies? How many? How are the villagers defending themselves? How are they even holding back the wave of the siege?"

When they were done, he was sweaty, thirsty, and stinky. Not necessarily in the order of greatest concern, mind you. When Malici was offering a quick way to freshen up, and the Taur seeing no major water hole nearby to wallow in, he quickly agreed, having an idea what spell might be involved. "Thank you, as I suspect that even the Float might have an idea of where the two of us are at if the wind shifts just right."

When the light began to fade, after a good helping of bread, nuts, and dried fruits, Bartomus unrolled his kit and was asleep nearly instantly and snoring shortly thereafter as he dreamed of various things with the occasionally tall Tauress.

When he was shaken awake for his watch, he yawned, stretched, and took a slow walk about their camp to get his bearings and clear out all of the cobwebs.

Sid eyes the woods and keeps his mind on the task at hand. "The Float is more of a hub of commerce and recreation. We connect the outside Wold to the area and provide an easy assembly point." He says more automatically to himself, and possibly Z, than anything. Walking through the woods and only having to be normally paranoid makes him feel better however so that by evening he is able to help setup camp, eat, and trance without issue. After four hours he takes the middle shifts that would be more disruptive to others.

"As we've seen from recent events, there needs to be better communication between the float and the surrounding cities. Considering the necessity of trade in a floating city, and the advantages of quick communication between leaders, I'm surprised the council hasn't done it already. Perhaps we can talk to them about setting it up?"
"What role do the Silver Shields have in the Float? Do we in general help someone when the council tells us to, or are we more autonomous? Does it make sense for the Silver Shields to set up communication, or wouldn't it be best to set up sending stones in some sort of postal system set up by the council?"

The extreme quiet of the woods unnerves Delia initially, every noise (especially from the party) breaking loudly against her senses. However, after a few hours she settles into it and allows the heavy silence to calm her from the stress of the Council and the threats unveiled there. During their meal break she would share the berries and mushrooms she found to make their rations a little bit more interesting.

She would come awake quickly when shaken for third watch and nod amiably to Sid as she casts Darkvision on herself and settles in for their shift. If there's a convenient tree that she can perch in, she will do so to give herself both a better vantage point and a place to hide. If there isn't a good tree, she'll just find a shadow to melt into.

I'm skipping the summary because in flipping screens I accidentally closed this one after I was done with the writing so now I have to rewrite it. Grrrr

Jasper puffs along behind and responds to Stohp. "Well we were working on tilling up that green space around the pyramid and turning it into a farmstead. It's slow going and of course most of the crops we'll be needing for ourselves. However Briadoc Greenstocking, has been doing a lot of exploring around us in the forest. He says he's sure there some unique things that could be distilled from different plants." He continues along for a bit and then answers Stock. "Well at first it was more of a confrontation, there were these strange looking humanoids, with a purple vegetable-like skin and razor-sharp claws. Its head sports two large yellow eyes, a wide mouth, inset nose, and a topknot of dark brown leaves. Leafy tendrils protrude from its shoulders, midsection, arms, and legs."

Jasper pauses and then continues "And there were some old, moss covered, dead looking trees, but they were walking around. First off one of them purple humanoids steps out and proclaims itself ruler of the land and that we was trespassing. When we went to see what's what he said to bow down and accept his rule or die. Well I can tell you, actually we asked for some time to think on it. But then he started attacking. We fled back to the pyramid and holed up there. Briadoc had some vials of stuff, said twas agent orange and to toss them out at the things attacking. They didn't like it much and retreated. Then the next day we started noticing strange plants around the far edge of the greenspace. That's when it was decided I should get some help."

Malici asks, "I thought the Float was ruled by an overlord, but this council seems to have a fair amount of power in your city. Would you say it's a representative democracy? I mean is the council elected?

The Overlord dwells in the palace at the top of the Open Air Level. The Underlord lives in the Bunker on the Trash Level, maintaining the magic that powers the Big Float. But these two alone do not
Power In The Float

Since the Float is a form of democracy, egalitarianism is valued, and those who openly display their power are mocked and scorned (aside from the OverLord and the UnderLord). Therefore, those who are powerful tend to use their influence in secret, and it is hard to figure out who is in charge. However, these centers of power are fairly well known:

The Floating City Council are advisors selected by the Overlord, in number chosen by him, to advise him on policy and strategy.
Meanwhile, the bureaucracy, or civil service, actually runs things in the upper city. These devoted officials, chosen by test and promoted by merit, control the day-to-day affairs of the city and directs the city guard. This bureaucracy also licenses and tracks adventuring groups, following the New Elennian tradition of relying on hero groups for special missions and defense of the city.
In the city below, the Underlord and his 400 undercrats, run the magical machinery that keeps the Float afloat.
An old tradition of nobly born aristocrats still persists, with the wealthiest families being the most powerful.
The Big Float does not permit guilds, believing that such things take away from the freedoms of the citizens. Therefore, such guilds that exist are thinly disguised as clubs or individual businesses. The most prominent of these are the three distinct groups of thief organizations. These are the Rogues’ Fellowship, the Black Blades, and the Lord’s of Diamonds.
There are diverse gangs and protection societies that hold more sway on the Fence and the Trash.

Elections and Transitions

Once a year, on Mask Day, the Underlord emerges to preside over the selection of 20 new Undercrats, and to switch roles with the Overlord. The Overlord becomes the Underlord, and vice versa. They continue rotating each year.

Current Turtle Law states that the Overlord and Underlord serve until one of them retires, dies, or is impeached. As a point of history, the longest any pair of lords has retained office is 31 years. When one Lord leaves office, the other Lord must also abdicate as soon as an election campaign can be completed. The election fills both positions. Anyone can run for Overlord, and a candidate typically self-funds the campaign or has backers provide financing. After the election, the winning candidate becomes Overlord and the second-place winner becomes Underlord. They swap positions after the second Mask Day after the election, then every Mask Day as usual.

The night passes seemingly quietly. You hear nothing. You see nothing.

Now originally when I wrote this module there was no ranger, and no flying scout. You are approximately a half day's trail breaking noisy movement away from the pyramid. Which is to say Delia and Bartomus could make it here in a couple of hours. You may want to take some game time and plan how you want to do this. At this point, you really can't sneak, well Delia could, maybe Bartomus, but the rest of you are going to be heard.
Options, go straight in, scout the siege line, look for the main army encampment, etc.

Zanderallen considers Ohen's and Malici's questions before answering to the best of his knowledge. "I have been confused my whole life as to how the government of the Float works. I know there are overcrats and undercrats and they get chosen by lot and there's a big celebration every year where the overcrats and undercrats switch positions. The undercrats live in some sort of control room for the floating city in the Trash level that nobody really knows anything about. As to the council I have no clue as to it's membership or power. It seems to be comprised of leading nobles of the upper levels and conduct much of the day to day business of the city. I do know that one of the undercrats is an old adversary of ours, a priest of the Hands of Love cult."

"As to our role in the Float. We were originally commissioned by a committee of merchants on the Fence level to deal with problems that the neither the town guard nor the upper levels were willing to help with. Before we set up shop even the Fence level was a lawless place the guard seldom ventured into except in force. The merchants built our headquarters on the Fence level to keep us connected to the lower levels, which our friendships would have anyway. The Float, whether they admit it or not, is extremely class biased depending on what level you're from. Maybe it is time to more openly set ourselves as protectors of the common person. I'm sure Happy would love to get food supplies from the beastfolk or Riverton rather than having to buy everything through the upper level gate. If communication channels were setup through the council much would get lost in the bureaucracy. We need Silver Shield Tokens to hand out that set off an alarm in our headquarters when activated, color code them to certain groups or something. Is such a magic item possible?"

After waking and getting geared up, Zander offers a potential plan of action, "We probably don't want to go barging into an army without knowledge. Delia and Sid could sneak through the woods and figure out the best point of attack, then lead us there to attack. Although it might also be wise to plan a path of retreat rather than get stuck in the middle of an army."

"I lived in the Float for all of my childhood and I still don't understand how it works, other than there's some fancy people in charge who get caught up in wanting to do the things that make them look or feel more powerful. With that, it might be really good for the people if the Shields are accessible to them. I'm not even opposed to getting cats off of roofs."

"I'm somewhat familiar with Ents, but... Did you guys say that you had encountered these Vegepygmy-like creatures before? If so, do we know any of their weaknesses? Or anything that would make it harder to sneak up on them? Or harder to run from them if sneaking fails?
"I'm good to scout the siege. I can range ahead of everyone and scout it while y'all are travelling so recon doesn't move the timetable back too much on when we're able to start breaking the siege."
She turns to Sid and Zanderallen and bluntly states, "If Sid and I got in trouble, we'd have to stay and fight because he couldn't outrun them. I don't think it's a good idea for anyone else to come scouting with me in this terrain."


I'm able to have a 45ft move speed if I cast Longstrider (lasts 7 hours) before scouting ahead, so I should be able to stay far enough ahead of the party to have time to scout before all of the heavily armored people get within hearing range of the plant monsters and theoretically outrun any threats if they do see me.

Micah follows up on Zanderallen's comments about the role of the Silver Shields, "As Zanderallen said, we were initially commissioned by folks who saw a need the government was unwilling to provide. As we have had some measure of success and have gained a bit of a reputation, the council was obligated acknowledge and even commission us. For whatever reason, they have been unwilling to think outside of the Float, even to the point that we felt we had to step in to facilitate the trade agreements with the Lizardfolk, the beastfolk, and the Drow, not because that was our role, but because it needed to be done.

"Perhaps we need to stop waiting for the council to do their job, and take the initiative ourselves to set up effective relations with those around us outside of the normal diplomatic channels.

"Zanderallen, I like the idea of some form of long distance notification device that is significantly less costly than those ring gates we found. Simple thaumaturgical principles would imply that such a thing should be possible. Perhaps Ohen and I can devote some time to studying this after the immediate crisis is resolved."



As the topic of scouting comes up he adds in, "It appears Delia is well suited to wilderness exploration. I think Sid would be best utilization staying here. His perceptiveness and other skills can be put to better use here should our group be discovered."

"You facilitated the trade agreements, not the council or Overlord? I'm shocked, surely trade is important in a city full of so many people without any farmland around. It must be a nightmare to get food and other supplies, like iron and wood. I suppose they can get lumber from the lizardfolk now, and teleport other things through the gates. I must talk to my father about this, he will be beside himself at the trade opportunities if he hasn't figured them out already. 'One man's ordinary seasonings are another man's exotic spices' as my father always says. Filling needs like this is exactly his specialty. Surely they are tired of fish all the time.

"Considering what I've read of the city typically following New Elennian practices of relying on heroes to help those in need, and the apparent incompetence of the council, I think Malici is right, we need to be able to help these people.

He kept listening and then looked at Micah. "Would an air wisp be invisible to whoever has the pyramid under attack? Thinking of a way to see what we are heading into. Also we could see about starting a forest fire behind whoever is trying to force them to submit."

Sid is pretty knowledgeable about politics (though he didn't say anything, so I guess you can highlight info from last turn if you are curios.).
Ohen is shocked at the potential trade opportunities and wonders about palantíries. And yes MikeK and I argued about the economics of a city that seeming exporting nothing and had to import everything including food, that's why we got the Crying Wood Reduced and opened up the territory.
Stoph also explains some of the ins and outs of government.

Bartomus did not get the hint. Before the Crying Wood left the whole of the forested area and made itself isolated on the plateau, it waged a final war on all the living things. The beetles are all dead. You found a carcass on your way here. I looked it up, it says a Wisp is tiny but made no mention of invisible. IT does say though that it emits a strange hum, which would be pretty obvious in this forest.

Anyone Knowledge Nature 10 or Intelligence 15Highlight to display spoiler: {As stated previously, this is an old growth forest, LOTS of dead leaves from years of neglect on the ground, lots of shrubbery half starved for sunlight and water. Starting a forest fire as a distraction would lead to a serious wildfire.}

Jasper takes all the suggestions in. "Say Mr. Ohen, you say your father is a merchant. Maybe if we can convince him of something worth selling out here he would be willing to help in constructing a road."

Malici stands astounded at what he's heard. "It sounds to me like the form of government the Float has is grossly incompetent. No wonder nothing gets done as this leaders are constantly changing positions. It almost sounds like someone planned for the city to be a chaotic mess." As to conversations about tactics, Malici says, "Well I could cast Fly on at least 7 of you. It's only going to last about 12 minutes though, and you would loose one minute while the first person waits for the last person to receive the spell."

Delia takes off on a scouting trip. Remember you have to move at half speed with being stealthy, and I doubt you have the fast stealth rogue ability.
Please make: 3 stealth checks and 3 perception checks.
Also if you want your hawk to follow you or operate on his own he will need instructions. If you send him off on his own he will also have to make 3 stealth checks and 3 perception checks, he's going to have to fly under the canopy though so it's not like he can soar way high and avoid detection. Also, unless you have the speak with animals spell though you won't know what he's actually seen.

Delia will take a few seconds to look mildly horrified at the suggestion to start a fire, as all the dead leaves and growth of this ancient place would likely lead to burning half the forest down.

Before heading off, she will do a quick check of weapons and say, "If I get into trouble, I'm sending Hawky straight back to you, if he gives two sharp cries, then I was up against a serious threat when I sent him to you. If I just need to relay information faster than I can get back to you, I may send a note with him, but he won't make much noise if I'm not in immediate danger. Stay safe, see you soon."

Delia picks up a pinch of dirt and rubs it onto the soles of her boots as she murmurs a few words (Casts Longstrider), with that, she takes off into the woods with Hawky tucked safely under her cloak, probably perched on her sword hilt or hip quiver.

Stohp shrugs. "Meh, they all have pros and cons. Our government changes a lot but that means when we do get a corrupt or incompetent ruler at least they're gone soon enough. Doesn't matter what the system is it'll always be open to abuse, corruption, and incompetence. The important thing is to just make sure the system if fixable when problems happen.

He says this quite matter of fact-ly without any malice or embarrassment at any implications. He then leans against a tree and keeps an eye out in the direction of the settlement.

Bartomus shrugged and watched the new scout vanish into the wilderness. He looked about and listened to the conversation. He walked about looking out as the conversations were going on. When Malici mentioned his concerns about the government of the Float, Bartomus chimed in.

"Efficient is not necessarily the best way to do something when many people are involved. Sometimes, the inefficient process creates a tension that requires collaboration and compromise. Progress is a constant effort and requires a firm commitment to continually form a more perfect union, you might say." Bartomus paused and looked out in the woods. "It is not perfect at the Float, more need to be represented on the Council I suspect. But, I think we may need to be focused on the hear and now in the woods."

Talking about politics, "I think it's a bit strange that the same person is the Underlord and Overlord, I would think those take different skill sets. I think it would be better if the council was comprised of representatives from every level, so that the Trash and Fence levels aren't forgotten by those above, and so that there is accountability for incompetence. The political discussion carries on. Malici comments, ”This is very interesting, you all seem to feel that your current government is shall we say not optimal but are willing at least to let it continue perhaps with modifications. It seems to me though that those currently in a position of power may be recalcontant about sharing power. Or perhaps that are just blind to others. Maybe their life view has not included considering all the others that they govern. Maybe a sheltered life? Or cloistered?” [i]Everyone gets a hero point for participation.

Fortunately the party detects nothing approaching the camp. Until suddenly Delia is aback among you.

Delia stealth is masterful. As she come closer to they pyramid she slows and takes her time. It seems there is a strange bunching of plants at the edge of the forest leading to the greenspace around the pyramid. There seems to be 3 groups of plants placed around the Pyramid.

There’s several spaced around, more than enough to keep the beast folk in for now. Not really a serious threat to the Sheilds, though the Blood Brambles could be difficult. She knows not to get to close to them as they have tremorsense. And it they get tied up at one area that would allow the ‘sentinels’ from the other areas to converge on them.

But she wants to find the main army and thus stays out a little longer. About a mile west of the pyramid she finds the main ‘army’ encampment. This time she has to be even more careful. She recognizes what looks like a Giant Flytrap in the center of the encampment. It seems to be acting as an area sentinel. There are about 30 Vegepygmy preparing crude weapons. It’s odd though, these are not pygmies. All of them are medium sized. And there’s one that is very robust looking. He really doesn’t look that much vegy, he has wings and a tail along with his leaves. There are also 4 odd looking treants stationed at the edges of the encampment (the 4 cardinal points).

Jasper asks ”How are my people doing? Delia however is not able to really give an answer as the did not get close enough to the pyramid to really give any sort of answer.

You now have some options…
1 Attack the siege line and raise the siege, though eventually the army will join in.
2 Attack the main encampment, though eventually the siege line will join in.
3 Do something the DM has not foreseen.
However, you’re pretty sure that whichever way you attack your battle would be over before the reinforcements could arrive.

"I imagine with two sorcerers we have the range advantage against plants and crude weaponry. I say we either parley, or we bombard them with spells. Make them come to us or be destroyed. We should also be on the look out for another fourth of the medallion."

Zanderallen listen to the report from Delia, envisioning the layout in his mind, "The enemies first move was to demand enslavement of our friends and then attack them. I agree with a direct attack on the main camp. Judging from the description and what we know of the current situation I would guess the one with wings and a tail is another half-dragon and almost certainly the leader. He will be my primary target as his bloodline leaves him particularly vulnerable to Domi's justice.", Zander looks slightly apologetically at Malici, "I would guess he exerts some kind of control over the plants, eliminating him should end or at least greatly reduce the threat they pose. I would be highly appreciate of the capability of flight magic. Both to keep certain members of the party out of harms way and to let us keep certain enemies in harms way."

She will try to reassure Jasper, "The vege-monsters are still there and I didn't see any bodies of your folk, so they should still be safely inside."

"The 3 types of plants stationed as the siege line and sentinels are not very fast, so if we hit the main camp hard and fast, they shouldn't be able to join them quickly. Not like the winged-plant-maybe-dragon-monster and its forces if we attacked the other way around." She'll turn to Ohen, "If there are three medallions to go with the three threats, that maybe-dragon-plant will probably have the medallion, same as Malici, 'cause of the compulsion magic on it."

She tries to answer Micah's questions."The camp is in a clearing of sorts, but there's still fine grass and some low shrubs. There's a lot of big trees and intertwined canape around the clearing. It's very strange like the tree's moved around to give them a place to make camp. Fire in the tree line would certainly pose a larger fire risk. Yes the vege-orc (that's what they really are) with the tail and wing could be a half-dragon, I marked him in red for now, but he was moving around a lot. You guys are pretty noisy moving through the woods. It doesn't help that there's nothing else really moving round, well except for some of those plants guarding the pyramid. So I'd say no closer than a mile, maybe more like 2."

DM says, I always get confused with converting round distance to minutes and such. Fly gives you move of 60/round, but can you double move? What does that convert to in minutes? 600 feet a minute, 10 minutes gives you 6000 feet right? A mile is 5280 feet, so if you can double move, you can be 2 miles out and have Malici and Owen cast fly, Sid's boots would last the duration.

If we only approach to max spell and arrow distance then we don't have to be particularly stealthy to catch them by surprise. Stepping on a twig won't alert them from 100 feet out. It looks like we can hit the middle of the camp from about 50 feet away from the edges. We advance from an angle to give us the most distance from the treants (around the n-p/36-38 tree), then cast fly on our archers and casters. They go up over the treeline and target the winged guy. If they have a competent ranged response they can always drop back under the treeline to get cover. Best case scenario we take out the leader before any of the rest can respond. Worst case scenario we still weaken him a good bit before having to engage all the rest."

She looks around at the party. "Ok, now tell me what I've missed that will get us killed."

"If they really are lighnting treants, then elecricity resistance would help." He searches around in his bag and pulls out two potions. "Resistance against fire and cold...no lightning. Hmmph."

He goes over and looks at the map and listens to Stohp's proposal. "Ok, come from the southwest, Z goes for the half dragon...I'll go after the southmost Treant once they start to close and then charge the flytrap. If we get that far without the plan blowing up, we're doing pretty good."

Bartomus looked down at the map and tried to visualize in his mind what lay ahead. His focus was such that really everything else seemed to go right by him as Delia explained what she saw. His life before the Float was spent on the grassy plains and the idea of walking or moving forests was simply alien to him. His first encounter with a forest was when he was introduced to Eberyon by his tribe's shaman filling his belief that woods were a place where magic occurred. His second was when they had to fight amongst the woods and it simply affirmed that belief. Now, the trees were moving about on their own. So, that seemed rather common.

He stared at the map etched into the dirt. He rubbed his chin and sighed. "So, I have a few questions. First, why as that in the center? Is it needing protection? Does it do something that we can't see? And if it does, should we focus on it or on these tree things on the outer edges?"

Let me just say in the previous post I said, if you get within 1 mile with your trudging over the difficult terrain of the forest you risk being heard, 1 mile is 5280 FEET.

Bartomus tries to think of several things.
Fly trap plant has a good tremor-sense. You don't have to strip down when doing beast-shape, your gear either falls to the ground or trans-morphs into your body - I've always ruled that anything worn trans-morphs. The only thing that might not is your glaive since you have to hold it...unless you do like my cleric and get an efficient quiver which is where I store my glaive along with other long pointy things. Oh, and perhaps more importantly....higher level druids can make plants move around for them, allowing say vege-creatures sunlight to nourish with.

Zachary proposes some prep spells to cast.
Malici responds in the affirmative, acid breath, 30 foot cone.

Delia proposes she can talk to plants.
Might want to be closer to the control area for that. Also Let's hold off on prep spells yet.

I'll give you this as well, your bow is not going to do well against most of the plants, plants generally have DR 5/bludgening or slashing.

Okay, that all said, I'm not putting you on the map yet.
If you want to SNEAK within 100 feet, you all have to make stealth checks at -4, and you have to all take the lowest role of the individual that rolled lowest. You are moving as a group I assume.
Or
As I said in an earlier post, Malici can cast fly on almost all of you at 1 mile away and you would be able to fly in attack, avoiding the difficult terrain movement penalties. But your fly would run out when battle is joined.

So that being all said...
Make your decisions on:
1- What your plan is,
2-what prep spells you're going to cast, some of which could be done in the 10 minutes of flight time,
3-where you want to land,
Once you cross out of the tree line you will be spotted, even if you're flying. I would allow 1 charge/surprise attack/person.

Ohen will cast fly on: himself, Delia, Zanderallen, Bartomus if he wants it, and Jasper if he's coming with us. We all get a +9 bonus on the fly skill from the spell, on top of any ranks or Dex.

Bartomus agreed with the plan and then as they got to their departure point, he choose the form of a large sea bird that they would see flying over the lake. He flew as best as he could in the new form working his way to the rally point and coming to ground. When he landed, he took his time and cast upon himself the spell that made his skin stone, hardened stone, it should help, he thought to himself.

Then he moved deftly as he could and threw the bundle of swirling air at the space near the center plant thing. He could see where the winds settled, but was unsure in the swirling what all felt the heated blast.

Malichi will cast Fly on whoever else needs it. So everyone has Fly on for at least 5 more minutes, assuming you were going to hustle from 1 mile out.

I made the map edge bigger so more people could fit at that bottom corner. Bartomus declared a different start position but that would be too close in to start casting your prep spells. Zanderallen also declared a point at the edge of the clearing, but again there looks to be several prep spells cast at the last minute, since none of you have silent casting I thought it better to put you all at Ohen's rally point.

You have at this point cast all your preparatory spells. The camp seems to be in a non-state of alert, at least that's what you think.

Dragon boy is on the north side of the Fly Trap plant.

The plant men are standing and flexing. Zanderallen recognizes it as warming up calisthenics, but not necessarily for combat rather for marching.

(It also amuses me, which is why I did it.)

Stohp spends the time judging distances while the rest of the party casts their preparation spells. "You should be in range next to that tree there to hit the middle of the camp where the target is." (by my count AO/35ish is where the 110 feet mark is).

Stock feels dizzy from all of the surrounding magical effects. He shakes it off and chugs a potion, dropping the bottle through the tree canopy and starts flying left to go after his chosen target. He senses Micah wants to touch him again with more magic but says, "You're going to have to chase me, cleric."

He ends up behind a tree and can feel his rage starting.

Rounding the tree, Stock sees an explosion and giggles at the carnage. He reaches down for his trusty flail and decides against it, instead grabbing his new axe. Then a thought strikes him; while Stock is definitely not used to flying, he has no idea about landing. He does his best to loop to the side of the treant to flank with the spiritual weapon...and then the rage hits him and everything turns red.

I think Stock is large sized right now. Micah cast it in the fly up 2 turns ago and the spell has minutes/level; When stock was flying away from Micah it was avoiding his battle rage spell ability since it wasn't going to be used anyway. This post has Stock still enlarged; if your ruling for this post is still that he's medium, I'll update my future posts.

The trees Delia, Ohen & Stohp, and Malici seem to twitch and move even though there is no wind. There's almost like a sound but just barely at the edge of your hearing. It's more like an itching in your ears. Too bad no one has speak with plants going.

Bartomus moved as the lightning bolt came at him, but it still jolted him as he moved. He dismissed the winds as his mind and fingers began another rather simple spell pulling forth a flame in his hand. He flicked it at the Tree-thing in front of him that had sent a bolt at him.

With her heightened speed, Delia narrowly dodges lightning flung at her. Realizing that she's not consistently hitting the leader and that these Ents are a danger to her metal covered friends, she switches targets (LT3) and floats just a little bit closer to the treant (5 ft step to AS33).
(I forgot that she is in fact airborn (about 20ft up), but I autosucceed the needed DC 10 or 15 check to hover or move just a little bit)

Stohp grimaces as she takes the hit. Covering for the casters seems to have become more of a hindrance then a help. She's thinking too 2d, as if the enemy could charge the flying group and attack in melee. She double moves tot he branches of the tree at af/ag 40/41, trying to take cover from more lightning and be far enough away more won't be able to make the jump to any of her comrades if more does come.

Zanderallen gets his shield angled to throw off the worst of the electrical blast, but still feels it. Seeing the vege dragon furiously casting spells he recognizes the need to threaten the caster. "I hear you Micah, I'll get him." Not wanting to risk getting grabbed by the flytrap he flies up and over the flytrap before descending next to the vege dragon. "You seem to have wandered into the wrong neighborhood, friend." he says in Draconic. And then focuses Domi's anger onto the vege dragon.

Bartomus casts a spell. Please tell what the rolls you make are for. FOR instance you have two d20 rolls. I assume one is for your reflex save. Perhaps the other is for your ranged touch attack. But YOU didn't say ranged touch to hit 28 (d20+8) etc... LIKE I do when I'm doing the bad guys rolls.

Bartomus see's his fire hit the treant...and not do much damage. Resist fire 10 Delia shoots treant 3 but sees that her arrows aren't doing as much damage as they should. DR10/slashing Stock in his frenzy kills everything around him. Ohen is amazed that the Fly Trap doesn't seem to even notice the flames anymore.

As Zanderallen comes in for a landing Vege1/2dragon whips his glaive around cutting at him with his AOO.

Twisting to dodge the lightning being thrown his way Zander is just distracting enough to distract the enemy spellcaster. The flytrap coming at him gives him a moment of pause as he throws up his shield arm to block and is greeted with crushed pain and the thing grabs him. Channeling healing energy into his body he maintains his focus on the vege dragon, following his step if he can shake the flytrap off. Moving faster than he seems to be able to control, Zander cuts an outline of the vege dragon in the air around him.

Stohp takes the high road.
Stock takes his axe and goes after the fly trap, drawing an AOO.

Ohen arsonist nature takes control as he whips out another fireball. (Veg 2 made the save but dies anyway, veg 1 being a leader type makes his save and still lives.)
Delia moves and fires at the Flytrap, killing it. (I'm going to say okay to up and over 5 it would be like a diagonal step on a 2 dimension board).
Zander swings valiantly a dazzling display to be sure.
Sid uses a hero point to reroll and moves away.

Eyes blinded by the lighting that he somehow made it through he pulls out one of the spears that is lodged in him and turns 90ish degrees to follow Micah. "Micah! If it's not too much trouble I seem to be about to die." He pulls another spear out of his rib. "Also I think I need to rethink my place in combat."

Zanderallen coughs at bit at the spores but otherwise remains unaffected. He dodges out of one lightning blast only to end up right in the middle of the second one. Grunting a little in pain he starts stepping towards the vege dragon when he casts his spell. A grim smile spread across his lips as he feels the disease purged from his body by holy energy before it even takes hold. Continuing the flow of holy energy into his wounds he heals some of them. He then completes his step and finding his balance, lays into the vege dragon, including a heroic turn of the blade to land a hit in the middle of his attack sequence. "Domi sends greetings!" he yells as his blade cleaves plant matter.

Seeing the treant she's been attacking moving towards her, Delia will glance down at the sword on her hip, but realizes that even against a tree, her mastery of the bow outclasses her swordplay. Not having to (immediately) worry about Stock, he turns at Sid's call. After assessing his friends' injuries he flies forward, descending as he goes, and calls forth Domi's healing power.. "Get out of here, Sid. We are no match for this lightning," he says as he ignores his own advice.

FYI, the treants have fast healing 10, it specifically says in their write up that they will heal after the 'dying' stage of death. You need to take them down in hit points well beyond the normal 'death' zone of a PC, ie you have to get it past it's CON in negative hit points.

Bartomus actually hits with his glaive as he steps away slightly.
Stohp double moves for descent and heroically wraps her arms around the half dragon. However, since he has a reach weapon he gets one AOO as she closes on him.
Zanderallen steps forth and with the luck of the gods (criting) slays the half dragon!
Delia shoots into the treant (though it has DR10/slashing).
Stock....since Zander killed the 1/2 dragon I'm going to assume you would attack the nearest lightning treant. So I moved you toward it and used your first attack to inflict damage. (However this would generate an AOO from vege 8 and from the treant since it has reach on you, but I don't think your character would really care about that in his desire to chop things.)
Micah's magic weapon continues it's attack and Micah desends to do some healing. (Hmm, healing is a 30 foot radius and you are 20 feet high, I'm not sure everyone would actually be in that sphere...need some 3D math you engineers.)
Ohen magic missiles treant 3, and see's it stagger and fall over, but not get 'removed' from the board.

Bartomus attempts to intimidate a tree.
Stohp pins the 1/2 dragon to the ground.
Stock chops wood, but doesn't kill it.
Micah charges vege 7 and trips it while his spiritual weapon chases the target and kills it.
Zanderallen connects with the VERY EVIL treant, however they are fire resistant 10.
Delia, actually I'm going to have to rule you cannot see #1 from where you are even with movement. I put a ruler up just to be sure, his outer edge and yours are still in the ice storm spell which is 40 foot high. You don't have a shot with only a 5 foot move.
Ohen, unfortunately at BB31 you can't see V1 there's a tree in the way, however at AW31 your outer corner and his outer corner are visible. Magic missles away.
Sid attacks a prone defenseless target, and forget to add his backstab multiplier forcing the DM to look it up. Also remember, you only get 1 attack when you move more than 5 feet. :P (+23 damage)

Stohp throws the dead half dragon to the ground following up with a pinning arm bar. It is quite spectacular as the intestines spill out and blood flies everywhere, partially covering Stohp. As she applies the cross body arm bar, the arm, somewhat severed in Zanderallen's attack comes off of the body and Stohp finds herself holding the bloody arm shoulder to fingers.

Sid's attack on the tree splinters it with a resounding crack.

Zanderallen grunts as he takes a couple solid blows from the knobs of the treant. However he notes that his blade surges with holy energy as it hits, confirming the treant as an evil being. Ohen, seeing that nearly everything is handled besides the fire resistant trees, will move to a more central location to get a better view of everything. As he passes by the fallen treant, he will call out to the group "Does anyone know how to make these stop healing besides turning them into firewood?". As he looks around, he will make sure treant 3 has stopped healing after Sid's strike at the heartwood, and will check to see if any of the other ones are healing. He also points to the tree to the northeast. "Our vegetable friend moved behind that tree."

Unfortunately Micah and Delia cannot see into the acid fog...Acid fog creates a billowing mass of misty vapors like the solid fog* spell. In addition to slowing down creatures and obscuring sight, this spell’s vapors are highly acidic. Each round on your turn, starting when you cast the spell, the fog deals 2d6 points of acid damage to each creature and object within it. *This spell functions like fog cloud, but in addition to obscuring sight, the solid fog is so thick that it impedes movement. Creatures moving through a solid fog move at half their normal speed and take a -2 penalty on all melee attack and melee damage rolls. The vapors prevent effective ranged weapon attacks (except for magic rays and the like).

Everyone is looking around and realizing that there are no more combatants.

The acid fog cloud spreads some more, (11 points damage to everything, including the tree). You hear the distinct crackle of bark sizzling in dissolving acid. The smell of the acid is non to pleasant either. Delia is pretty sure she did not see the vege come out to the east, and Micah is pretty sure he did not come out to the north. As you hover briefly you hear a rasping scream as if someone's lungs were no longer fully functioning due to inhaling some caustic substance. And then there is only the sizzle of the spreading acid cloud.

Ohen detects several magical items...Malici descends to join Ohen.

Bartomus joins in the gathering of things from their foes. Like the others, he was standing about and hears Stock point out the 1/4 medallion to Malici. Bartomus rolls his eyes a bit as he seemed to recall that the four holders of the medallion were connected as siblings, albeit estranged. He tried to find some diplomatic way of asking the question he had, but sighed and just put it out there.

"Malici, if it is, then that was one of your siblings, right? " Bartomus paused then continued. "Will we have to expect a battle with everyone holding one of these?"

Ohen will raise his eyebrows in surprise at the dragonhide breastplate, and pick up the medallion.
"It seems our theory was correct unfortunately. 3 other half-dragons compelled to come to this area. Each with less than peaceful motives."
He will place the medallion in his bag of holding for safekeeping, watching the magical energies with his arcane sight as he does so, and pulling the medallion away if anything untoward happens. He will then start identifying.

Hmm, Acid Fog can't be dismissed either, that thing is going to go on for 12 rounds (total). And I think it keeps expanding by 20 feet each round. The camp is going to be encompassed before that spell is done.

Unfortunately, there is nothing really left to loot. The vege-orcs had only simple weapons made of bone and wood. (well except of the vege-orc leader, he had some masterwork stuff, but it pretty much dissolves in the acid). The treants had no treasure nor did the giant fly trap.

Even as Stock points out the medalion Malici has already landed beside Ohen and see's it as well. Bartomus asks his question. Malici shrugs not taking his eyes of the medallion. "I guess so, it's not like I have a working knowledge of all the possible siblings that may have survived my father's trials. I did not think I would and did not want to try for I did not want to be his puppet. That's why mother and I fled."

As Ohen tries to picks up the medallion he feels an electrical tingle and icy hotness (that's from the medallion not Malici). The glow from the detect magic seems to pulse on the medallion. As he tries to tuck it away, Malici says, "Excuse ME, I believe that should go to me." Malici holds up his quarter of medallion. At this point everyone can see that both parts of the medallions are pulsing in sync with each other. So no, Ohen, you don't get to pocket the medallion as you posted. You may try to now though...

When Zanderallen calls for Jasper he hears no response. Delia and Sid having stated they are on lookout can not see him either.

Bartomus nodded as Malici reiterated the fact that the experimentations and the efforts to create controlled puppets is why he and his mother had fled the dragon. He watched as the medallions were pulsing and he looked at the two pieces. "Could it all be a key? Do they join together if they are put side by side?"

Then he was looking over at the other things collected. "That head band kinda looks like the one I am wearing. Huh," he picked it up and looked at. "better made and looks a bit older as well. I would be interested in swapping these, unless someone else needs this?"

When they had mentioned Jaspar being missing, Bartomus looked about and noticed that the acid fog was still moving about. He chuckled at Stock's joke. But, continued to wonder about Jaspar. "Any chance he might have ran back to his village? Do we just head that way to see what we can do and then worry about where he might be?"

Stohp and Sid, you each have been healed for 53 hit points each.


Satisfied that everyone is mostly well, Micah focuses his attention on Malici and Ohen.

He frowns deeply when Malici tries to claim the medallion piece. "If it is all the same to you," he says quietly, but firmly, "I would rather Ohen keep possession of that." Although careful to keep his posture unaggressive, his demeanor is nonetheless serious and intense.

Bartomus having the circlet makes the most sense to me. Micah does not have an open headband slot, so could not benefit from the new circlet or Bart's old one. Anyone with this slot open could benefit from Bartomus' old headband with the +1 boost to will saves and perception checks, even if they are not a wisdom based spellcaster.

Still a little worried about Jaspar, Zanderallen knows wandering off into the forest alone to look for him is just a good way for two people to get lost. "Go ahead and take the headband Bart, you're best suited for it." He stops and stares for a good while at the breastplate, "Wow, real bona fide dragonhide armor. That's not something you see everyday."

Near the pile of bodies being looted he sees the medallions light up and he has a hard time not reaching for his weapon. As Micah speaks, he positions himself next to Ohen, posturing solidly next to the new medallion piece as he opens his divine sight(Detect Evil) and looks at both medallion pieces.

Delia, unaware of the potential conflict with Malici and concerned about Jasper's disappearance, would go to where he was last seen as soon as we realized he wasn't responding and look for signs of struggle or tracks. As she heads in that direction, she'll call out and let the rest of the party know that she's looking for Jasper.

Sid will keep on lookout but at the sounds of tension behind him he switches to Brawen and gets ready to notch one of his elf bane arrows.

Ohen will wait and see what Malici has to say before pocketing it, but he also will not let Malici take it.

Stohp suggests going to the next target....where ever that may be...
Stock thinks about being a pain in keister to the powers that be.
Bartomus queries what would happen if the pieces were put together, and places dibs.
Micah is rather firm about the medallion.
Zanderallen uses a little paladin power.
Delia goes off looking for Jasper.
Sid readies a threat.
Ohen is steadfast.

Delia flies to where the party met to pre-cast their battle spells. Then she realizes that Jasper was also flying with the group, so there's not much in the way of tracks to follow.

Zanderallen detects no evil from the medallions.

Malici crosses his arms, bringing himself to his full height. He looks around noting some of the postures of the party. Arching an eyebrow he says, "I see." Then he takes flight straight up and once above tree top level, turns southeast and heads off.

For those curious, I'm saying the map now shows the acid fog at about 1/2 of it's total potential spread radius. That's if I'm reading the spell right, it says it spreads Effect: fog spreads in 20-ft radius, 20-ft high. I'm not sure if that means just the initial spell point or if it continues to spread each round.
