"Agreed, mushrooms, and they aren't expecting us. So, here's an idea, I could fade into the darkness, and go deliver them a big ball of fire with everyone rushing in as the surprise starts." Bartomus offered as an idea to these group huddled together in the hallway.

Micah winces as he observes Carver take down the trog oultier. He starts to activate his wand, but realizes in time there is no real battle here.

He then nods grimly as the others confirm what he heard and smelled.

"Sounds like a plan," agrees Micah as, once again, he readies his wand.

His mind going into battle mode Zanderallen pulls himself back from charging straight on ahead. "Bart if you've got some trick start doing it and not talking about it. Seems like a large room. We need to make sure to not get stuck in the doorway once the fighting starts." Holding his sword behind his shield to block most of the light Zander slowly moves partway down the hallway to give Bart time to launch a surprise attack.

Stock chugs another potion of invisibility and moves forward. Drinking a potion is a standard action, your base barbarian speed is 40, you can't get that far, putting you at AK21.

Carver readies his ring.

Sid moves forward.

By the way the Trog you killed was not wearing any armor, and only had a club for a weapon.

Bartomus moved as quickly as he could to get behind others in the hall and in front of Zander. He then looked at everyone and nodded as he readied himself.

Trogs that are in black anyone can see because of the low burning cook-fire. The bluish trogs can only be seen if you have dark-vision. Keep in mind the sight restrictions below.

Stock only since he's really the only one in the room right now, and only he can react to anything.

The room is fairly bare. You can tell that the 10 foot high ceiling may have had some tapestry hangers along the wall. Where the tapestries are you have no idea. There are numerous javelins stacked about the room, well mostly just in piles on the floor.

Trog 1 is wearing a chain shirt and has a great axe sitting next to him. He is seated in a medium sized red velvet chair that has been placed on a dais. He is in a bit of a relaxed position. He appears to be listening to 4 and 2 who are talking too quietly for you to hear anything.

Trog 2 and 3 are in breast plate armor and have a longsword at their side.

Trog 4 is in hide armor and looks to have another of those obsidian gauntlets.

Trogs 5-14 have no armor and appear to only have clubs. 7,8, and 9 appear to be resting, but do not appear to be asleep. 5,6,11 and 12 appear to be squating around a low burning cook-fire dishing out something from a largish pot. They appear to have oversized mugs, but you realize that they might be soup bowls for small sized people.

The "x"s in the back of the room appear to be piles of loot. Mostly of the ornamental, jewelry, perhaps coins, silver dishes, etc.

Bartomus walked along the corridor, his hands moving and his mouth doing the same very quietly. He passed through the doors fading away as he did so, tossing his hand and the spell at the creature closest to the fire that he saw. If nothing else, that should be a surprise for the others to take advantage of, he thought to himself.

Move to AQ22; Fade Away Stealth 14; Flaming Sphere Greater at T5 for 21 damage, reflex save negates that against a DC I believe of 19 (10+Caster's Level?)

Sid peers around the corner, just barely seeing another door, since he can see T3, and a plan starts to formulate. If they can get half team to that area then they should be able to easily surprise the 6 trogs in the room ((Sid only has low-light vision)). He starts to turn to fold the rest into what is possible and then everything breaks loose. Sid sighs and will do his best to stealthily move ahead of Bart to AT20.

Stock quietly moves into the room.

Bartomus fades away and casts a spell. Okay, Greater Flaming Sphere is not in the 'allowed' rules set for the Wold. In the Wold you are limited to the basic core book. So you are limited to standard Flaming Sphere. Saves are 10+spell level(not caster level)+ability modifier. Thus you 2nd level spells all have a save DC of 15.

Micah casts Bless and moves forward. Assuming you cast it before Carter, Zanderallen, and Bartomus moved then they would be in range. Sid and Stock are out of range of the spell and don't benefit from it.

Sid, startled by the sudden rush in, decides to try to move in stealthy.

"Well that didn't go as I expected," Bartomus said to no one in particular. He faded into view and flicked his right hand at one of the two trogs coming towards Zander (T6) while pulling out his sling and letting one of the normal clay plugs fly at the other coming towards them.

Ok, sorry about that, have highlighted that spell to replace it with another when we get out of mountain; flaming sphere for 9 pts on T6, Reflex save against 15 (TY) to avoid; sling shot against T3 w 14 for 2 pts

Stohp moves into the room. Unfortunately if you don't have the spell detect magic up and going you don't get to see any glowy magic stuff.

Bartomus directs his flaming sphere and it rolls up on T6. He then slings a stone at T3 and misses.

Zanderallen steps over to Trog 3 and swings hitting nothing but air.

Micah slowly runs into the room.boots of speed...

Carver charge T5 ripping him with the lance, but not quite killing him.

Stock steps up to the armored Trog and swings but only finds air.

Sid switches to his bow.if you did not want to put your sword in its sheath and just drop it you could fire the bow, unless you have quickdraw attributed to your shortsword, then you could resheath it and draw and fire.

A fireball erupted off to his left singing the Taur, "That's bigger than mine."

At about the same time, a javelin and then another flew past him but from behind. Bartomus called his own fireball at the trog near Zander and then faded away.

Reflex save failed damage noted; move fireball at T3 for 12; save against 15 to avoid damage; fade away 2/6

Stohp somehow manages to completely avoid the fireball despite being in the center of it (30 to save, evasion means no damage). Able to see the caster now and noticing most of the troggs seem busy she resolves to try to go grapple a caster or at least take some pressure off Carver. She moves past Stock and his opponent, stopping on the other side to give him flanking and maybe disarm the trogg.

Move to AQ/AR 14/15, drawing flail as a free action. NO way to move without provoking an AoO (too fat!), will take one from 2. 22 to disarm him.

"OUCH! AHHHH!!!!" The fireball only seems to drive Stock's rage hotter. Unfortunately it doesn't really improve his aim...which also serves to fuel his rage.

Zanderallen almost turns in time to catch the worst of the blast on his shield but ends up with a face full of fireball. More than a little miffed he takes a massive swing at the trog he's fighting, which is good but leaves him off balance for any followup.

Once into the room, Micah realizes the rat's nest the Shields have rushed into. Noticing the caster and recognizing the casters motions and words, he calls out, "He is enchanting his weapon."

Seeing Carver is dealing with some casters, he focuses his efforts there, casting holy smite. "In the name of DOMI!" he shouts as the holy power blasts the area.

Bartomus moves the ball o' fire on the armored troglodyte, he then dissappears. you didn't say you moved so I assume you didn't. Or does fade away also give movement?

Stohp moves uhh, AQ15 is the campfire, I'm going to assume you don't want to be standing in that attempting to disarm trog 2, just missing.

Stock swings and manages to hit with 1 attack.

Zanderallen swings at his enemy, hitting once. Stock and Zanderallen are having a contest, both are tied.

Micah casts holy smite. I changed the center based on your character's experience. It affects more trogs that way and since Carver is good aligned he is immune.

Sid gives some warning to Carver and shoots. You say the magic man, but technically there are 2 troglodytes casting, t1 and t4. I'm going to assume you're after t4 since his was the spell that didn't blow up in your face. 1 Arrow hits.

Sid the stench save was 14 so you made it cuts with his shortsword.

Stock does a side step shuffle and unloads. Killing Trog 12 and wounding Trog 2.

Zanderallen inflicts a little hurt on his lizard.

Micah, ignoring the trog in front of him, casts on Stock enlarging him. Adding insult, he ignores the pesky trog and walks away from him, which will draw an AOO.

Carver has a clear avenue and takes it to trog 7 dropping him.

"They can't see me, they can't see me, they can't," he was saying to himself as he flicked the flaming sphere back at the dexterious trog when he was slammed into by another trog that was hissing and slashed out at the Taur. "Oh, frig, they can see me." But, Bart didn't say 'frig,' rather he said the mother of all cuss words and swung his glave at the hissing, clawing trog thing.

After mixing a few movies together, Bart is visible and staying in place - as his player screwed up the last turn. Move flaming sphere to T3 - DC against 15 to avoid 9 pts dmg; 22 to hit with glave on T8 for 10 pts

Stohp disarms trog 2. Stohp, you did not make a will save vs the hold person that was cast on you last round by Trog 4. That was a DC 14 will save. DO IT.

Stock follows up Stohp's disarm by crushing his enemy and seeing it driven before him into the ground. Trog 2 dies.

Bartomus moves the flaming sphere and swings with his glaive at T8. Unfortunately the glaive being a reach weapon it is ineffective against adjacent targets. So Bartomus is unable to connect with the willy troglodyte.

Zanderallen steps a bit and flourishes his sword madly in the air.

Carver charges across the room impaling Trog 8 and summarily killing him.

Micah actually I see path to AT18 with no provoke moves and readies to cast a spell but trog 2 has gone to meet Gargul so DM option he casts hold person on trog 3.

Seeing Stohp disabled and Stock sporting many wounds, Micah grimaces as he realizes he must deal harshly with his immobilized opponent if he wants to aid his friends. Moving next to the trog he just held, the priest raises his mace high over his head. Then, putting every pound of strength into it, and with a tortured wordless scream, he brings it down in a vicious blow to the top of his foe's skull.

Seeing an approximate source he starts heading that direction, ignoring the lesser trogs that stand in his way. Catching the ending sequences of what he thinks to be magical gestures from Trog 4 as his light moves forward he closes with him.

Zanderallen rushes across the battlefield, the light from his sword displaying different scenes from the fight. Stohp freezes in place. And gets lucky because technically T11 should have gotten a coup-de-grace on you last round, but stock is killing it this round.

Stock shifts and attacks I'm assuming you're attacking T5 and T11, you didn't specify killing both troglodytes.

Carver charges and impales another troglodyte on his deadly lance, all while singing a tune.

Bartomus moves back and swings at T9 but misses. He leaves the ball of fire to toast the poor defenseless troglodyte.

Micah steps over to the trog he just froze and brings his mace soundly down on his skull. There is the distinct sound of bones cracking and his whole head sort of collapses, and then the trog falls, and continues to cook in the ball of fire. failed the fort save. Micah seems to hear a gentle voice in his head say, 'Sometimes unrepentant evil must be dealt with expediently to save lives.' He seems to recall hearing that voice before.

Bartomus realized that there was no trogs about him and he had a lingering fireball but also knew it moved about as slowly as he did. AND, Zander was being surrounded and swarmed by trogs and not in a nice way. Pincushioned might actually be a better description. Bartomus took off at quick clip sliding past Sid and coming up next to where Carver was standing with glowing lance.

Bartomus moved forward and watched as Stock slammed one of the frogs. He fished out one of the special bullets he had picked up just for this adventure from his sling and whipped the bullet at one of the trogs attacking Zander. In his rush, the bullet sped forward and not in the way he had hoped.

Stohp hurriedly rushes around the room. I'm assuming with the double move you avoid the AOO from T13?

Stock clears a path by murderizing the poor troglodyte 13. However he fails to connect with trog 4.

Bartomus moves up and slings a stone, unfortunately the stone fell out of the sling on one of the twirls and lands at his feet.

Zanderallen "By the power of Domi, I have the Power!" swings his glowing sword and sends troglodyte 1 to the long line awaiting judgement by Lord Gargul. Seeing his target fall he shifts his back-swing and it sunders T4 from the land of the living.

Micah moves forward but finds his intended position blocked by Stohp.

Carver races to the wall and returns seeing his intended target down and then his secondary target down, shifts to the last Trog (10) and skewers him like a side of meat ready for the barbecue.

Sid moves in for the kill but finds no kills remaining.

And suddenly you find yourself panting and looking around at each other. All the trogoldytes have been eliminated. The battle is won.

In the aftermath, leaderless any remaining trogs in the warrens will quickly head for safer places to live.

Zander snorts at Stock's comment, "Too slow friend. Although Micah took my first opponent from me so I had to pass the favor on." He grins that they are able to joke around after winning a fight. Such victories had become less common. "Let's finish searching around here and heal our wounds. The boss is next on the list and I have a feeling he's going to be quite upset at how we've messed up his plans." Zander helps with searching the area and remaining rooms, mostly providing a light.

Micah looks around, alert to any remaining foe. Seeing none he pulls out a wand and adds, "It looks like there is no fight left in them, but let us tend to our wounds quickly in case we are mistaken."

He starts inspecting everyone and using one of his cure light wounds wands while everyone else checks the room.

Carver uses his wand to heal up.... He uses 2 charges, remaining 1 hit point down....

With ease, He then casts Detect Magic on the gear from the Trogs, to make it quicker to sort important from just cash items....

Stohp looks around but really doesn't investigate much.

Stock begins a more close search of the room.

Zanderallen wanders around providing some light.

Micah goes about healing people.

Carver does some healing on himself.

Sid really gets into searching the bodies.

Bartomus wonders what's behind the other doors. nothing, it was the king's family's quarters, its been really ransacked and torn up. (11-15)(8 was a waiting room) (9 was privy) (10 was a guard room).

You find that there are numerous tapestries that appear to have been torn off the wall and used for bedding for the trogs. You can see that there are a few scraps of firewood that the woodworkers in the room will recognize as a chair leg, and part of a bed frame. There are 4 medium sized chairs in the room. They look rather comfortable and are in upholstered in green velvet.

AND FURTHER, on a chain around the lead troglodytes neck, you find a largish brass key with 3 emeralds in the handle. It radiates magic but you're pretty sure that this is the key to activate the gate. You know that actually the gate is activated on the other side, to wit on the drow side. You surmise that the slot on this side may serve as some means of activating the gate if the key is already in the capstone on the other side. In fact....given time you will notice traces of gold along the inside of that slot and you surmise that using the gate on this side required a fee. Probably ported back to the drow when the gate activated.

Lastly, I give you a DM hint. This module is designed for numerous rest periods. You can rest and regain spells before going in search of whatever is deep down below.

Light Sources and Illumination just a reminder your torches, everburning lances, lit maces, and glowing swords, provide normal vision in a 20 foot radius and provide you dim vision in a 40 foot radius. Low light can See up to 40 foot from a torch light source and gets 20 feet of murky shadows beyond that.
ALSO, you don't need to be in the light field to see what the light field reveals. Example. You can be on the west side of someone carrying a torch and outside that light field, but still see to the extent of your vision east of the light source.
AND LASTLY, There's a fungus in some caves/tunnels that will give those with Dark Vision extra range, I will let you know as you enter them.

After looking about, and seeing a lot of things were pretty trashed, Bartomus paused to look at the woodwork now turned to kindling and the tapestries. He looked at the tapestries and shook his head, "do you think that they can fix all of this when they come back to their homes?"

As they worked together to sort through the various things that they found, he added, "So, do you think that was the ring leader?" He nodded to the dead trog mage that had had the jeweled key. [/b]"Or, do you think we have someone else causing all of this trouble up above?"[/b]

"I think he was wrangling the other Trogs into doing the bidding for whomever it is that is in charge. With him dead, the other Trogs I expect will scatter and vanish, at least for a while.
We have broken their resolve but over time they will regain their nerve.
Oh, and can I use that Axe, at least while we still have it? It'll give me a melee weapon that is magic that I can use without needing to actually charge around. I'll lose a bit of tactical ability. but we can't have everything."

Carver's military and mercenary background are showing, but he seems to be trying to fit in....

"Agreed, this guy was probably the head trog before the new "master" showed up. As long as we deal with him as well the remaining trogs will most likely scatter. And sure thing Carver. I think we'd all agreed we'd much rather see gear put to use than sit in a sack till we get back home. Use it for now it's permanent fate will get decided back in the comfort of home. I can't imagine being underground is comfortable for you."

Zander helps and thanks Micah with the healing and helps gather the goods up. He is pleased once the key is found and it's use figured out. "One goal of ours complete. Bring this back to the surface and the kobolds can easily return home. Now to the other goal, how do we feel about continuing onward down the next tunnel? I feel prepared to continue the fight, but how about everyone else?

Micah is a bit embarrassed that he did not notice Carver's wounds. When he sees the centaur healing himself he nods and sighs in acknowledgement of his own oversight.

In response to Bart, he replies, "He seemed to be calling the shots for everyone here, but we still have not found the necromancer we have been told is among them. "

He whistles in admiration at the collection of fine weapons and armor.

After looking over the magic items, he comments, "We need to spread out these potions of healing." He takes one in each hand, pointedly holding them out to Stock. Then he continues, "I will take the scroll of spiritual weapon. Bartomus, you can use the meld with stone scroll. Would you like to take it or should I take it?" He also takes four of the smokesticks for himself
