DM Robert - "I'm not gonna carry it deep down into the underground."

Micah volunteers to cast the spells for Carver. He also needs a few supplies.

Carver talks about a future lance sheath. He volunteers to carry stuff, but only so far.

Dorbin is happy about so many supplies.

Stock is not bashful, he immediatly starts toting stuff through the portal.

Zanderallen the silvertongue smooth talks the official. He indicates to Lady Yasume the supplies that are already available.

Stohp tries to smooth things over with the official and in the end decides she is not too happy with goats.

Bartomus tries to help out in impressing the custom official.

Sid ? has apparently overslept and does not appear at the custom house.

Zanderallen, Bartomus, and Stohp appease the custom offical. He relents and grunts. "Sammy, Bob, get out here and lend a hand toting that stuff over."

Lady Yasume steps aside as Stock comes through with his first load. "This is quite unexpected." She says.

The group finds themselves standing next to one of five large stone archways arranged arraigned in a semicircle on a large open plaza. The air is thin like your are high in some mountain and the plaza has a thin layer of dust with a few scraggly plants eking out an existence in the cracks between the stones. You can tell from the height of the sun that you are a perhaps a hundred miles north-east of the Float. The multicolor gate way fills the center archway of the five. One of the other four stone archways has a faint trace of magic about it, but the other archways are black and dormant.

The porters Sammy and Bob grab stuff and start carrying it through. You quickly find the work done. The Drow shift around a bit as the pile starts to grow.

The Plaza of the five gateways, is a large oval shape and is lined with large stone statues of Drow and a reptilian like humanoids. map Yes I'm cutting and pasting, no use reinventing the wheel. Except for the maps most of the stuff on that page doesn't really apply to you as it was from another gaming grup.
The Gateway Plaza faces the rest of the city. It rises up above you looking to be built out of the top of the mountain forming two peaks covered with terraces, pathways, and ruins of old buildings. You can also see some to the roadways disappearing into the mountain side. Most of the terraces seemed to be built for growing things and still support a lush growth of overgrown bushes and short trees.

The city seems to be built as four levels, with each level getting smaller and higher. The final level is split between the double peaks of the mountain like two islands. The Gateway Plaza is on the lowest level. The land seems to slope down quickly from this level and a sea of clouds surround the lower level stretching out. A few nearby mountain tops can be seen rising above the surface of the clouds. You have no idea how high this city is or what lies below the ocean of white.

Micah notices the reaction of the Lady and asks her quietly, "Unexpected, Ma'am. In what way?"

But when he sees the nervousness of the drow, he grows concerned. Hoping to draw them out, he asks, "I must admit, we focused on getting these goods here, giving no thought of how to dispose of them here. What considerations need to be accounted for now, that we are on this side of the portal?"

Not truly paying attention to the Lady, Carver is more intent on watching the Guards and their reactions.

"Am I to assume, from your looking about, that you are worried about Kobolds attempting a raid on these supplies? Or is it more than that?" Carver is being sure that they know he saw the tracks.

"So glad that you could help in this sir," Bartomus turned and smiled at the custom official and made a point of introducing the man to Lady Yseme and playing up the part of how the official oversaw the safety of the collection of the goods.

Bartomus was a bit taken aback at the reception of the Drow when then saw the items. They step through the portal and the Taur took it all in. He looked about and as he did so, he started to realize that they weren't necessary alone. "So, do we call those watching now, or do we try to create some distribution system. Is there a leadership group amongst the refugees that we can call upon to help out? Don't want to be doing guard duty. Oh, and what do you all call this place by the way?'

Stohp is slightly confused at the Drow's confusion. Maybe they just didn't expect so much? She was pretty sure they had informed the Drow they'd be bringing donations beforehand. At the comment that they might be raided for the supplies she tries to spread out some just in case.

Zander helps carry the goods through the portal, trying not to think too hard about the change in elevation between the two sides of the portal. Once everything is through he takes a moment to look around catching the signs of what he guesses are kobolds. "Doesn't look like this plaza is used too often. How far is it to the city?" He shifts a little nervously picking up on Drow's unease.

Sid looks at the little feet prints and quietly absorbs everything about him. His pride at the largess of the Float when people are need makes him look positively beaming. He keeps pace with everyone listening for the uncommon tongues of these people.

Micah asks Lady Yasumey, "Unexpected, Ma'am. In what way?" He also asks about distribution of the goods.

Carver thinks the guards might be getting ready for an attack. Not an attack on the Shields but an attack by Kobolds.

Bartomus continues to smooth things over with the customs offical. He also wonders if there is going to be an easy way to distribute the goods.

Stohp is confused at the Drow's confusion. She actually spreads the supplies further out rather than clumping them together.

Stock asks how to get in touch with the Kobolds.

Dorbin is amazed at the city and quickly whips out his journal and starts taking notes.

Zander asks how far to the city. He looks around a bit nervously.

Sid swivels his head this way and that acting like tourist, but nothing goes unnoticed.

Lady Yasume says "Well obviously such quick response to our request for aid. I am constantly astounded at the kindness of some races."

One of the guards nods courtly at Carver. Another guard eyes Stock and then says, "It's not a matter of how."

Lady Yasume begins to answers Zanderallen, "In fact you are already in the city, albeit at a lower level."

At this point 30 kobolds spring out of hiding. They have the area you are in loosely surrounded. 28 of them are armed with light crossbows and rapiers and are wearing breastplate. Two others are in banded armor and shield and have a short-sword drawn. Attached by a pole that is belted around their back is some sort of banner that loosely flutters in the wind.
The two in banded mail are speaking in Draconic.

Carver walks over between the 2 conversing kobolds and the pile of supplies.
In Draconic Carver tries to be diplomatic....
"As you can see we are not from here, we heard of multiple plights besetting the region. First is your arrival needing food as you were forced from your home. The second, is the fact that you were forced out of your home.
I speak for myself, but if you take these supplies right now by force, I will NOT help you get back to your home caverns.
If you allow us, to orderly pass out the supplies once we get them organized, I will do all that is in my ability to try and get you your home back.
The choice is yours, be civilized, or live with the consequences."


Carver steps out from between them and the pile, he pulls the pebble from his gauntlet and lets it "burn" providing light. (continual light) He's also ready to invoke the ring, but will as a reaction. (ring of force shield)

(Stohp didn't move any supplies, she was moving herself so they could cover all angles of approach in case someone attacked).

Fortunately Stohp speaks all of the languages involved and is pretty sure they can resolve all of this peacefully. In Woldian Below she addresses the Drow, "Peace. Lets not start a fight defending food we were going to give to them anyway."

To the Kobolds, in Draconic, "We intend to give it to you. As my companion said this food was brought here to feed the hungry. In addition to what you see we bring magic that will create more food. Are there any leaders or elders we can speak with? We would speak with them to ensure the fair delivery of the food and learn of your peoples plight so that we might work to end the difficulties troubling you." (Diplomacy 25 to aid Carver)

Stock looks between Carver and Stohp and then looks to Sid. "I don't know what they just said but it sure sounded flowery. I think I'll just let them talk."

Stock leans on a stack of crates, doing his best to act casual. "Hey Dorbin - you better hide Emily Jasmine. I bet kobolds eat cats."

Out of the shadows and out of the woods, came the movement and then they were surrounding the party and the stack of goods demanding them as their own. Bartomus watched as Carter and Stohp both stood their ground and appeared to explain why they were there with Lady Yaseme and her guards. He looked at the small reptile-like humanoids and kept assessing one, then another, and then another. "They are rather small aren't they, sorta like the lizardfolk but in miniature," he said in tauric and to no one in particular. There was a contrast between the languages being spoken that was also interesting to him.

He switched over to common as he watched the kobolds move about and some coming out of hiding and then stepping back into the landscaping. "Wonder how many of these little ones there are here? We may need more scrolls."

Zanderallen doesn't react to the appearance of the kobolds, he was pretty much expecting it. He mentally curses as the languages spoken are outside his understanding. When Carver and Stohp speak up he doesn't understand the words but he can guess what Stohp is saying. The cadence and body language are familiar from all the times they'd talked down some really aggressive people together. He casually moves to put his plated body between Dorbin and the majority of the Kobold crossbows.

Dorbin jumps when the kobolds appear. He understands the drow and Stohp's response. He is glad to slip behind Zanderallen and tries not to make it too obvious. When Stock mentions Emily Jasmine, Dorbin looks down to see she is sitting there, casually taking a bath, as if nothing else was happening in the wold.

Micah tenses when the kobolds appear, but relaxes, only slightly, when he realizes no one is truly spoiling for a fight.

"Stohp," he says softly after observing she is fluent in the relevant languages, "Please, translate for us as you can. It appears that this encounter will likely involve more words and less violence."

Carver leads off with some big stick diplomacy and then for some reason takes out his ever burning pebble. You realize you are outdoors, and it is morning? Also did you get your lance ever burninged?

Stohp attempts to intercede with calmer words.

Stock is not sure what is being said by everyone.

Bartomus wonders if they have enough food and scrolls to feed the Kobolds.

Zanderallen has faith in Stohp's ability to talk down the Kobolds.

Dorbin is nervous but his cat appears unperturbed.

Micah asks Stohp to translate as he senses that maybe not everyone wants to fight.

Just as a reminder you are fairly high in the mountains (think Denver, the mile high city) on a plateau. There's no forest here, it's all greenery, possibly cultivated fields that have not been cultivated in a while. Looking from your lower plateau upwards you can see many buildings, some are in better condition than others. And you're pretty sure from the size of the place that Lady Yasume's comment of 500-1000 Drow would leave this place mostly unoccupied. The black boxes are buildings. There is a stream running just west of the plaza you are in.
Perception 15 Highlight to display spoiler: {You note that while the stream is running it appears to have a bit of a green tinge to it, as if filled with too much algae. It won't kill you to drink it, but you can tell it probably has a special flavor.}

Lady Yasume apparently can't follow along with the Draconic talk. She cocks her head at Carver and Stohp speaking to the Kobolds. "Maybe we can negotiate with them? I should warn you we think there are as many as 500 in the city."

The Kobolds tense slightly at Carver's words. Stohp's continued talk appears to take the edge off. Koblod number 1 nods to number 2. Kobold number 2 takes a half step forward and speaks in Draconic. I'm going to assume Stohp or Carver will actually translate now since neither indicated they did on the previous post. "We are starving and cannot return to home. These Drow can not help us, claiming we are too many to feed with the supplies they have. Then they go off through this gate and you appear with all this food. We are thinking we must fight or our clan will starve."

Kobold number 1 again nods and speaks in Draconic. "If you in truth mean to speak with pure tongues I will summon our chieftain.

Now that the kobolds have surrounded you and been here a few minutes you note a faint musty smell in the air, like moldy leaves and damp earth.

While conversing, Carver's mind wanders a bit as he notices the stream has a green tinge to it, something to mention later, the conversation is more important right now.
In Draconic, "I need to translate what we are discussing, not everyone on our side can understand, I know you understand some common, and can speak it somewhat, but so we are not misunderstood, Draconic, would be easier for you, right?"
Carver translates what was said before.
Then back to the Kobolds, "Yes, they left by the portal, they came to our city to do a couple of things, one was to trade, the other was to get help dealing with your problem. This pile of supplies was donated to us to help you. There is not very much, but it is all we could get on short notice.
On my Honor, I give you my word we came to help. If you could get your Chieftain, we will arrange to get these supplies passed out, you'll need to scrimp a bit to make it stretch. We might be able to use Magic to stretch it a bit further, but any food created with magic isn't storeable,
Once we deal with that problem, we can then discuss what caused you to flee your home, and see if we can fix that problem too."

Carver carefully translates what he said, being sure to make sure the phrasing gets clearly translated for the Group and the Drow, hoping they understand what he said and how it was said.

Sid has an 'aha' moment after listening to the Kobolds speak for a bit, understanding the spoken tongue better after listening to it a bit. Sid will translate to those who don't speak Draconic while others speak and will speak back so that Carver and Stohp can speak more naturally.

Bartomus looked about and tried to get a sense of where the kobolds were coming from and what the situation was that now surrounded them. He caught sight of the greenish tint to the nearby stream and a change in the scent that seemed to be associated with the group of kobolds. He continued to listen to Carver translating the two lead kobolds and looked at the Drow. "Kind Lady, being told 500 now, well, I hope we can provide some relief to their food needs, otherwise that may become a much great problem. How easy is it to open that and send word to the Float that we are going to need a lot more in the way of assistance? Also, can they eat fish? I mean we might have an in with someone who could help deliver some fish.""

Stock goes up to any of the guards he has seen speak common. If none have then he goes to Lady Yasume and asks, "Like many of my people, I am fond of the mountains and you have a beautiful location for a city. Let me ask though, given how many of your people you said live here, it seems there are too many buildings. What happened to your people?"

Seeing the Kobolds lower weapons and hearing the words translated Zander almost noticeably relaxes his muscles. Asking for translation he offers further reassurances as he shows his WLA officers badge, even if they didn't recognize the WLA the officers badge looked impressive, "Friends, I doubt you have heard of us but among our own people we are great adventurers. Many of us are members of a great adventuring guild. The drow sought us out to aid you in whatever is driving you from your homes. We also brought food as a gift from our people. Hopefully it can help keep the edge off while we help return your homes to you."

Stohp adds her own two cents to the diplomatic effort. "We would be honored to speak with your chieftain. The sooner we do, the sooner we can see that the food is passed out among your people and the sooner we can work with you to reclaim your homes." (Dip 17 to aid another)

DM, I'm not sure. I assume Woldian is the same as Common. High Woldian has its own entry in the Wiki as a separate language to learn, so I'm assuming it's different enough that you can't use one to know another. Undercommon was changed to Woldian Below, I think more for a flavor statement.

Bartomus asks if the Drow maybe misrepresented the scope of the problem. Although you were not present for the first part of talks with the Float Council

Stock asks one of the Drow guard what happened to all the people.

Zanderallen adds to the diplomatic attempts.

Dorbin continues scribbling furiously in his notebook.

Stohp also helps with the diplomatic talks.

An young looking Kobold arrives. He speaks common, "I am Prince Kasmeer." He's interrupted by a loud cough behind him. "Perhaps King Kasmeer at this time. I have understanding that you have brought food for my people thanks to our hosts." He waves to the Drow.

Lady Yasume bows. "Indeed King Kasmeer, it is as we told you, we are not capable of dealing with your problems and ours at this time. So we sought aid. Fortunately the only gate open leads to a Floating city and we were able to find great heroes."

The king replies, "The raids do not affect us they are on the upper levels, we are concerned with survival."

Carver understands the reasons for the pile of poo Lady Yasume is layering on and also understands there are more things going on that just the Kobold problem.
He's more interested in questioning the King, for now, the Lady would it appear rather not discuss more than the Kobold troubles while they are here.
"King Kasmeer, we still have not heard why you have migrated from your home to here. Could you please tell us what caused you to leave and then we can figure out how to get you back to your home."

Bartomus nodded along with Lady Yasume and even gave a formal bow towards the kobold leader in an effort to accentuate the already extravagant ego-soothing that the Drow matriarch was undertaking with the newly minted King. He also watched her a bit closer and processed what Carver was saying. However, once the effort to distribute the transported goods was mentioned, and the excitement amongst the throngs of upright toothy grinned walking miniature lizards grew, his focus shifted.

"Alright, now whoever speaks their language, tell them that we need folks who are fair, well organized, and well respected to come over here," [b] Bartomus pointed to where he was standing and continues. [b]"We are going to need them, with his Majesty's royal approval of course, to help us determine how we distribute the perishable foods first - my suggestion is those who may have been going without the longest so others might have something be first. Then we need a few of us Shields to activate the scrolls to figure out how we provide something for the rest. Also, ask them what type of things they can eat to survive, cause I think we need rations and such from the Float - immediately."

He looked at Stohp and said in Tauric, "You might want to have at the ready that changing into a giant just in case things get rowdy, I suspect a giant Taur might just scare them enough to settle down."

Also having been laying it on thick Zander appreciates Lady Yasume doing the same. However his appreciation dissolves when King Kasmeer mentions raids in the upper levels. Leaving others with the skills to distribute the goods he pulls Lady Yasume to the side, "M'lady, it seems I have learned more in 5 minutes conversation of what is going on here than several hours of questioning on the Float. We are more than happy to offer help wherever it is needed but don't appreciate being blindsided. If going into the lower levels and freeing their homes so the kobolds can return is all the help you need then I will turn a blind eye to raids in the upper levels. But if you want to ask for help please do so, we are here now." He continues giving her a diplomatic stare down until she answers.

If any of the kobolds get unruly he puts a quick stop to it. He does not even try to ply any of the leaders for info. Talking is not really his bag.

Becoming a giant is actually a spell one of the others can cast on Stohp, not something she does herself. She can disguise herself as something else, but not size change. Regardless seems thing to be going along just fine. She pitches in where needed, whether that's organizing or diplomacying.

King Kasmeer looks up, way up, to Carver, "Bad times. Big trouble. Nasty things. Months ago we get invaded by cousins, large, you call them Trogs. They had bunches of goblins with them. They over-run us, take over. Make us labor and dig and dig. Then blackness comes, goblins and Trog's go in and come out worse. They meaner. Start making us dig more. My people start disappearing. Gobins then say they go off to do war for master, invade woods." He holds up one hand and counts his fingers and thumb, "One, two, three, four," he holds up his other hand and counts off, "one, two, three, four." Holding both hands sprayed out in front of them he shakes them jazz hands"Many fours of fours ago. Goblins no come back, Trog King say master pleased, means woods still bad he make to go to war. Need more troops. More kobolds sent into darkest tunnels not come back. We decide to make escape try to get all still alive out one night. Take portal key and throw it back through portal as is closing. Is so Trog no can come, and master no can come, because key on other side of locked door now. We protect our allies the Drow."

We cannot find out anything except that during the night the ground will shake, but not over the whole plateau, only where the next morning we find a crater like depression and then discover that someone has been going through an old building that is near the ground disturbance. Sometimes there is evidence of recent breakage of old cabinets and chests that have been left there. We think the two things might be connected. The portal," She points at one of the nearby portals, "that led to the underground mines and the kobolds lair has been deactivated by the kobolds as they have removed the keystone that activated it."[b] She then pauses to wet her lips. [b]"I was to take you to some of these sites after you spoke to our council, but we can look at them on the way as they are all up hill from here, and we live on the highest plateau."

Bartomus nodded at Stohp when she reminded him of how she stood up as a giant in the past. He nodded and then focused on the distribution of the food. He appreciated the way that the kobolds quickly helped and then took over the operation that slowly pushed the Taur a bit further and further aside. They were nice about it and did let him left the bigger things, but it was obvious that now they were going to take care of things.

He smiled at Lady Yasume as she talked to them and then him. With a big doopy grin and a lot of jovality, he said aloud what he was thinking. "Sure, sure, let's be off - but exactly off to where and to do what? See, I am still a little confused about EXACTLY what you want us to be doing here and what it is you may KNOW about that like the arrangement for food purchases, what the kobolds eat and such, that doesn't seem to be fully shared with any of us, unless I am missing something and these three have been sharing more than their glares with folks."

He smiled and nodded to the three guards and then smiled at Lady Yasume.

Dorbin notices nothing about the kobolds (perception: 14), he just thinks there are a lot of them.

When Stock gestures towards his cat, Dorbin casually replies, "I have a feeling they will be quite surprised. She not only has quite sharp teeth, but also four sets of very sharp claws. Oh, and a friend who has a few magical powers." He tries to glare at any of the kobolds that might glance at the cat.

That would be to try and cheat us. We have brought food and supplies, the only thing we ask in return for them is not to be cheated. It could cause us to become irritated if we should find out that fraud was being committed. I personally would take great offense and might decide to have anyone caught be judged by Lord Gargul.

Bartomus is confused about what is going on and what they are expected to do.

Dorbin looks around but does not notice much. Probably because it's all just so much to take in. He indicates that Emily is not defenseless and he will protect her as well.

Zanderallen apologies he is ready to go see the Drow Council.

Carver threatens the king. Sorry your words are clearly a threat because saying you'll have lord Gargul judge someone also implies you are going to kill them so that it can happen. An Intimidate roll is more in line for your attitude than a diplomacy roll.

Micah seems to only be paying attention to the interaction with Lady Yasume.

King Kasmeer stiffens at Carver's words. Before you can do anything he sprints away while emmitting a strange warbling hiss. All the kobolds spring away and quickly duck into the ruins and scrub brush, a few even jump into the nearby stream but don't come back up. Most of the goods had been passed out but what few items were still being carried by the Kobolds were dropped in the sudden exodus.

Lady Yasume cocks her head at Carver. She then looks at the rest of the Silver Shields. "I trust you don't think that we have been misleading you with regards to anything. I certainly would not wish to be called upon to be judged by Lord Gargul because of a misunderstanding about why we wished to hire you."

The Drow guards draw away slightly from Carver but are keeping a wary eye upon him.

She then looks directly to Bartomus. "To be clear, feeding the Kobolds is not why we have sought to hire you. What you have done of your own accord I commend and applaud you. I went to speak to your leaders to arraigned for food to be delivered and we intend to pay in goods. They told me the first shipments would begin in another day. What we need you to do is find out why the kobolds left the mines but more importantly find out what has been raiding our buildings. The council is awaiting you and will try to inform you more thoroughly."

As the group progresses up the path the PC’s note there are many areas of overgrown grass that may have once been fields, or parks. In addition the large rectangular pool on the next level is clearly in need of cleaning, or at least having some sort of fish imported to provide a balanced ecosystem.
Knowledge Nature 20: Highlight to display spoiler: {Fixing the lake would be relatively easy and could be accomplished with the aid of the fisherman of the Float.}

Proceeding through the town the PC’s find that there are more buildings that are unoccupied. The drow are living in the two upper sections of the city and most of the repairs and rebuilding is happening on the second level. Twice on the way Lady Yasume stops and indicates a strange circular depression perhaps 20 feet in diameter, the depression is surrounded by overgrown grass and clearly visible as no grass is growing in it. It is very smooth. "This was not here before."

This is a three story building, or at least it was, parts of it no longer reach that high and only about 25% of the roof is still in place. Inside you note a good deal of dust, dirt, and debris. There are a few old wooden furniture items, desks, etc. There is evidence that the desks were recently smashed apart.

This is a two story building, or at least it was, parts of it no longer reach that high and only about 50% of the roof is still in place. Inside you note a good deal of dust, dirt, and debris. This may have been a family residence at one time. There are some heavy old wooden bed frames, and old wardrobe, and a book case (all in different rooms). The wooden bed frames have recently been tossed against the wall, or maybe lifted and leaned there, but tossing seems more likely judging from the crush marks on the wood that your carpenters can tell you. The wardrobe is now in large pieces, you can tell it's recent from the ageing of the wood. Curiously the bookshelf is not broken.

Bartomus was taken by surprise when the kobolds suddenly ran away, literally just ran off dropping everything about them. He turned towards Carver, "Um, so I take it IT was something you said?"

He sighed and took the dressing down he somewhat deserved from Lady Yasume and followed along as they worked their way up the mountain and through the buildings that were no longer being maintained. He took it all in and as the paused at one of the ruined buildings, he took part in looking about and then studying the circle that the Lady had indicated shouldn't be there.

"Ok, anyone recognize or know what makes those type of tracks?" He was not sure and really didn't know much beyond the grasslands and the Float, it didn't seem to be anything he knew or if he did he couldn't figure it out. They continued onward and upward stopping at another ruined but not as large and somewhat more usable than the other. He looked about, and again, it didn't make sense. "More tracks, can't make them out but, kinda odd that that shelf was left alone."

Bartomus walked towards the shelf as he tried to figure out the room and what had happened.

"Yeah, I guess so...I mentioned that cheating would irritate me and probably my friends, then I sort of made a off hand threat, which I meant as a way to get his undivided attention. I probably went a bit too far with the threat.
They were pulling a switcheroo and at least one of them was on his third trip through the line."


He sees the pond and figures it could be cleaned up a bit. (know: Nature 18)

At the stone in the pit, "I think this might be the remains of a wall of stone spell or something similar." (Arcana 22)

In the first building Carver notices the tracks and points them out to the others, but has no idea what made them. (perception 28, Survival 19)

In the second building, he's busy thinking about the stone wall plugging the pit. (perception 19)

"Maybe someone used that wall of stone to plug a doorway that leads to wherever they came from."

"Lady Yasume - You know some folks in the Float could help get this pond cleaned up. Looks like it just needs to be stocked with some fish..."

Then later in building 1..."I hate to see solid wood working get smashed like this...I mean it's not Dwarven work but the elves apparently know how to smooth out a board...Hey, are those tracks?" He gets close to the ground and inspects the tracks..."Not brand new although just a few days old. Looks like there are a couple sets...maybe some Drow which makes sense and also some kind of large lizard...maybe those trogs."

...and in building 2..."...more tracks here though it's not as clear as the last place...Can anybody make these out?" He begins turning his head left and right, looking at the dust on the floor until he realizes he is getting dizzy and stops. He gets his bearings and moves to inspect the untouched bookshelf. He carefully looks at the line of dust on the shelves to see if it was previously empty or if it had books of some sort.

"So how would a Wall of Stone spell work here? Like they tunneled up from underneath and then sealed it with a new wall? And then what...it just formed a crater?"

Dorbin nods to Stock and agrees with his observations. He says, "This looks like there's been an attack here. This isn't just something staying underground and attacking the kobolds, is it? Something is coming out of the ground and is attacking your houses. And those marks aren't from some lizard, that takes some serious spellcasting power and ability to cast that kind of spell." He turns to their host and asks, "Was this your people taking defense actions, or are we going to be facing some seriously powerful magical foes here?"

Zander raises an eyebrow as the kobolds run away. That was the first time the Silver Shields had ever scared something away with diplomacy. He picks up on Stohp's annoyance and exchanges a look with her. But the raid sites distract him from being able to take immediate action. He listen to the other Shields, his own expertise lacking in those areas. "Well your problems and the kobolds problems may be one and the same Lady Yasume. It appears from what my companions have observed that something in tunneling up from below. And sealing it back up. So we are dealing with something that can tunnel through extreme distances and possesses capable magic. We should speak with your council immediately." The thought of subterranean raiders makes Zander a little uneasy. He adjust his various straps and buckles even though they are already at perfect readiness.

Sid examines the second building with more interest than the first. "Three lizardy people were really interested in this bookshelf and not much else. Good for them for breaking stereotypes. Reading is fundamental. I don't see anything around though. Hmmm..."

Sid takes a moment to focus on something that may or may not have been on the shelf to see if it was actually a book or a bauble, and will do another once over to make sure something didn't fall off or get over looked.

Carver tries to explain what the kobolds were doing. He identifies the Wall of Stone and points it out.

Stohp seems a little put out by Carver's diplomacy. She too points out the tracks in the buildings.

Micah notes the Effects of the Wall of Stone.

Stock offers that there are some people in the Float that can clean up the lake and restock it. Stock identifies that some of the tracks were made by Troglodytes. He doesn't care for wanton destruction of wooden furniture. He carefully studies the bookshelf.

Dorbin asks Lady Yasume if her people are prepared to take defensive actions.

Zanderallen picks up on Stohp's annoyance. He reasons that whatever drove the kobolds up from below may be coming up with them.

Sid also notes the strange occurrence at the bookshelf.

Just as a reminder you are fairly high in the mountains (think Denver, the mile high city) on a plateau.

Lady Yasume says, "Thank you Stock. We have been so busy these last few years trying to straighten out and reclaim the upper level that we have not had time or manpower to get this far down as yet." You notice that both she and the Drow guard are squinting in the noon sun. Freebe, Drow are still slight sensitive.

At Dorbin's query she nods, "We have been trying to set up something but I'm afraid we've come up against improper planning and relying on others. You see when we first reclaimed It-lal a decade ago we had a group of adventurers serving our cause. Much like the Float has you. With time we became reliant on them to handle all the major problems that came up while we concentrated on the more mundane affairs of putting a city back together. But as time marched on they left for other adventures, and then none came back. We know not if they died or found a new home. Then suddenly we were beset by problems we were no longer prepared to handle."

Those of you that studied the bookcase can detect that there were several volumes (books) on it recently as noted by the dust marks and age marks on the wood. You think there the bookcase may have been over half full, so you estimate that there could have been at least 30 books there.

Lady Yasume shows you into a large building. It's not dwarven crafted stone but it is rather pretty in an elfish stone cutting way. The building interior is slightly cooler than the outside but not by much. You notice that there are heavy drapes on the narrow windows. Lady Yasume shows you into a furnished room set off to the side. "If you would wait here I will see to having some refreshments sent. It may be an hour or more before the council is ready to see you." She smiles to take the sting out of her words. "I know there is urgency but try to remember we are still a race not used to sunlight. Most of us work in the evening, night and dawn. This time of day is generally when we rest."

The room is spacious, but the seating is decidedly medium only. There are several side tables and small tables next to the armchairs. It strikes you as a very comfortable sitting room. Unless you're a Minotaur...or a Centaur.

There will be brief wait until you are called by the council. In other words next turn you go forth.

While waiting to be summoned, he approaches Zanderallen. Quietly, but not so quiet that the others cannot hear, he says, "I would like you to follow what is going on in the council without having to have it translated for you. When we are about to enter I will give you the power to understand languages. The spell should last for about an hour and a half."

Stohp is tall enough she can just sit on the ground and be at head height to the table. It's a little awkward but not terrible. "So... Carver. I think we need to discus your... 'negotiations.'" She looks around at the rest of the party. "I know most of you didn't understand the exchange but lets just say it did not go well at all. The first thing he said was a death threat. I barely managed to smooth things over. I counted at least two more death threats and eventually they just all ran away, as you saw."

She looks back to Carver. "I know you're trying to help, but this is a relief mission and we are not the mob. Our job is to help these people, not threaten to kill them if they look at us funny. Yes, they were armed and ready to take the food by force, but it was obvious they were merely desperate and willing to do anything for relief rather than actually hostile. By handling it the way you did at best you've just scared off the very people we hoped to help and someone will have to go through a lot of time and effort to get them to trust us again. At worst you've convinced them we're a hostile take over and they're already preparing to kill us all to secure the food they're in desperate need of."

"Look, you're new to the party and you have no experience with how we handle things. Just, take a step back, let someone else handle negotiations. After the fiasco just now you probably shouldn't be speaking to the kobolds at all anymore, they'll take everything you say as some threat against their person. If you really want to know when it's time to start glaring and looking all scary follow Stock's lead. He's been with us a while and he knows exactly when a stick is needed to back our usual carrot approach. You clearly don't."

Stock takes a seat at the table, takes out his block of oak and carving knife and begins removing material. All at once, he puts down the block of wood and goes outside. He returns a moment later with a small black stone that he drops in his rock pouch and goes back to carving.

Bartomus pulled out a few of the books, took a look or two at their titles and then put them back as the party indicated it needed to get moving.

Bartomus listened and after Stock broke the ice that followed Stohp's "character building" discussion with Carter, and offered, "well ok, so the tone was a bit edgy, but can we just admit that there seems to be a lot more going on here that neither the Council nor the Good Lady have really been all that forthcoming."

He paused a moment and took a place at the table, "it's easy to get excited, I mean heck we connected in an undwater castle and are now at the top of a mountain all in a short time. Usually, I am the bull walking about the pottery shop in these things, so I get it. However, I also understand pushing back, maybe not shoving, but pushing back."

Zanderallen bows to Lady Yasume as she leaves, "We understand M'Lady. We will be ready."

When Stohp sits Carver down, trying not to feel small compared to the two taurs Zander speaks up, "But let it not be said that we are reluctant to distribute smiting when it is called for. However we strive to reach agreements through peaceful means when possible. And use threats only once peaceful options have failed. We'll make a Silver Shield of you yet Carver." With that Zander holds out his hand with a genuine smile.

Zander thanks Micah for the magical boon, glad to be able to pick up on any side comments the council might make.

"Sorry all, I'm just a bit more used to being more blunt, I'm Honest about it, but not much for backing down. I was just trying to get them to not try and pull a fast one. I know we already decided that we would give what food and supplies we brought with us to them. I just didn't like the cheating they were doing. I guess I've realized that outright death threats won't always work, It's just that where I was trained, the general rule was no blood no foul and spending time in the Mercenaries I guess backed it up.
Oh, and I can try to cast that too, but my armor may get in the way... Who else should it get cast on?"

Sid settles down and listens to their admonishments and nods. "Stohp's right Carver, just follow Stock's lead, When he starts gouging their eyes with carrots you can start using the stick. And if he's also foaming at the mouth make sure you give him his space," Sid grins and looks at Stock. He then asks the group, "Say, what were the Drow speaking? It sounds familiar, but I just can't place it."

Micah will cast Comprehend Languages on Zanderallen.

Stohp tries to give some heartfelt advice to Carver.

Stock does some carving while the group waits.

Bartomus agrees somewhat with Stohp but also points out there is more going on than they know about. By the way there were no books on the bookcase. There WERE books on the shelves but they were taken away by the Troglodytes, as if they could read, well maybe, you never know.

Dorbin keeps working on his journal. Make a profession Sage roll, just to see how well you're doing.

Zanderallen offers Carver a hand of friendship, or at least let by gones be by gones.

Carver apologizes and tries to tell a bit about his background.

Sid also advices Carver to follow Stock's lead in being the flexing muscle of the group if that is more in line with his temperament.

After several hours the party is beginning to nod off from the waiting, the wine, the sweet meats, and the chocolate cakes. But They manage to stay away when the door opens and a Drow wearing rather fine clothes bows to you. In Woldian Common he says, "Apologies for the long delay, the Council is ready to speak with you if you are willing and able to attend."

You gather your things and follow him down a short hallway to a larger room. This room has a table at one end behind which three Drow females sit. You also note that there is enough chairs in the room to accommodate everyone one and every size just right.

Lady Yasume of House Mylyl sits on the left and you can clearly see now that she is the youngest member of the council. The center seat is occupied by a Drow of undetermined years, which means she could be anywhere from 50 to 500 years old. Her hair is white, like most Drow and her eyes are alert and penetrating. She is introduced by the Major Domo as, "Lady Larvanya Bralfah of House Bralfah". The right hand seat is "Lady Athena of House Bancurpi", another female Drow somewhere between the two in age.

Lady Bralfah rises and greets you. She then motions to you to sit and begins speaking in common. "I understand Lady Yasume has already explained why we have had to seek outsiders to aid us?" If you recall she said, 'We have been trying to set up something but I'm afraid we've come up against improper planning and relying on others. You see when we first reclaimed It-lal a decade ago we had a group of adventurers serving our cause. Much like the Float has you. With time we became reliant on them to handle all the major problems that came up while we concentrated on the more mundane affairs of putting a city back together. Then suddenly we were beset by problems we were no longer prepared to handle.'"She has told me she has extended our offer and you have accepted." YOU RECALL 'Lady Yasume nods her head. "Indeed we offer each of you one of these, or a minor item of equal value for your services." She holds up a clear spindle stone. identified as this is an Ioun stone, the clear spindle sustains the user without food or water. It's a minor wondrous item worth 4000gp see the chart on page 497 for other options at the 4000gp level.

She continues, "Let me be clear though. We are in no way defenseless. We have an organized army, but this problem does not really lend itself to the workings of an army. I fear we face some form of unknown foe from below. One that strikes randomly during the night. Fortunately we have not had any casualties as the disturbances are occurring on the lower plateaus."

"To make matters worse a large number of Kobolds arrived through the gate to the lower mines and promptly disabled the gate. Which is another reason my soldiers can't go down exploring what's wrong, well the lack of a gate and having to keep a watch on the Kobolds. We're currently at peace with them, but we've had our differences in the past." She pauses.

"I'm sure you have questions."

In the end, he took a nap waiting for the summons. It was a good nap and when he awoke he was thirsty and sipped from some of the items offered. "Good, tastes good," he said to no one in particular. He slowly paced about the chamber they were waiting in. He made notes about the furnishings and decorations and then joined with the others as they entered the room where the three ladies were seated behind the table. He glanced about taking a chair that seemed to be nearly perfect for him. Then studied the three women and the room about them.

He made a mental note of the three representing not only the leadership here, but also the fact that the three stages of life were also presented - youth, what he assumed was middle age, and elder. That resonated with him as he watched and listened.

He watched as Zander and Micah listened and when the elder finished waited for them to ask the first questions, but he had a few in mind and made a mental note to ask about what they knew about the attacks, the victims and locations. He also realized that they were going to need to know the same from the kobolds and that was going to be a bit more interesting to figure out how to obtain.

When Stock gets up to join the council, he is a bit perturbed by the wood scraps. He puts away his tools and quietly kicks the scraps on the ground beneath the table. He listens intently to the council and asks,

"So where exactly do you recommend we begin looking?
Is there a tunnel that the kobolds are coming out through?
It looked like some kind of lizard tracks in one of the houses below. Have you seen trogs in any of the lower tiers?
It kind of seemd like they took some books. Would books of value be in any of the lower tiers still? Those look abandoned...
Can you settle a bet for me? Do you pronounce your ancestry as surface drou or droh? Is it more like Cow or Dough? I've heard it both ways and have to say I've always said it more like cow."

He is not in the least abashed by this last comment.

Zanderallen bows to each of the matriarchs as they are introduced. When the floor is opened for questions he has a few.

"If I understand correctly these portals have keys necessary to activate them and the kobolds threw the key to the lower tunnel portal to the other side so the portal can't be activated. Is their any way to circumvent the key or any other portals or passages down to the tunnel?"
If not then would you be able to assist us in mining through one of the sealed spots the invaders came from? If my understanding of the magic behind them is correct it should just be regular stone covering whatever passage they came up in. They may have collapsed more of the passage but they may just have sealed the end and thought that sufficient.
And please take no offense at my dwarven friend. Like many of his kind he has no notions of manners, and has no sense to remain quiet. But his skill in combat is hard to match so he remains with us."

Zander has ceased to be surprised by Stock's undiplomatic comments and hopes that the surface drow share the same opinion of dwarves other elves do.

Micah finds himself mimicking Zanderallen's bows. As Stock adds his customary commentary, he does not even attempt to suppress the boyish grin it evokes. He does, however, nod solemnly as Zanderallen adroitly attempts to smooth over any potential offense.

After the others' questions are answered, the priest asks one that has been concerning him for some time, " I freely admit that I do not understand your history nor your society, so I beg of you to not take offense at this question, but why are representative's of the kobolds themselves not here to plead their plight or provide insight and information that might be helpful in addressing this issue?"

Carver aids in Zanderallen's efforts of smoothing any ruffled feelings.

The attacks as such were not even noticed at first because there have never been any victims. Rather they seem raids on old ruins of the city and they have been taking place at the lower levels. It can be as infrequently as every 4-6 days. We're placing our best guess on our ability to read tracks and the wanton destruction inside the buildings."

It looked like some kind of lizard tracks in one of the houses below. Have you seen trogs in any of the lower tiers? The three look at each other. Lady Athena then responds, "I believe you mean Troglodytes? We have never seen them before. I don't believe we've ever heard of them occupying the tunnels with the kobolds before."

Some of this just wasn't making a lot of sense to Bartomus who stood and made a small bow before he continued. "I mean why worry about the lower plateau's at all, unless you are using those for food production or something - or are there Drow trying to settle those buildings too?"

When the tremor beneath his feet, "Ok, and that didn't seem to feel like something normal either. You felt that right? Can't say that was hundreds of kobolds, right? As I see it, we are hired, but what have folks seen in these attacks? Micah, Zander, we gotta talk to the kobolds, this seemed to start with their arrival, and solving this problem is going to need all of us working with everyone, right?"

He turned to the Shields leadership as he finished his questions. He turned slightly bowed back at the three matrons and then sat back down looking at the floor.

Zanderallen shakes his head a little and speaks up, "I don't mean offense by any of this I'm just summing up so we can move on to dealing with the problem, correct me if anything I say is incorrect. We have two hostile, or at least unfriendly groups, normally co-existing by the distance between your settlements. Some stronger enemy has now pushed the two groups together and you're trying to figure out how to not kill each other with the constant threat of the underground invaders raising tensions. Neither group is strong enough to deal with the problem on their own and has too much history to work together effectively. The invaders have some goal that is unknown to either group, but have been making incursions into the city obviously looking for something related to it's history.", he pauses briefly to see if anyone wants to correct him, "The way I see it the only way to find out more is to bust open one of those tunnels and go "ask" the invaders what they're after. How soon can you prepare teams to open one up? The only further information I think the kobolds could usefully give us is maps of the underground city, unless the drow have such maps they could share."

When Bart says he felt a tremor, "Wait, did you just say you felt a tremor? And didn't the areas that were supposedly attacked look like something erupted from the ground? Wouldn't that feel like a tremor? Maybe we should go check this out, and if it is another attack, maybe the tunnel will not be plugged and we won't have to dig our way in."
Carver, rather than heading off in a rush, waits a minute for the others to realize what was said.... But he does stand and begin to float on blue glowing hooves.

OOC,AS I see more than one person did this... as a reminder if I call for a die roll, or two, please state you are rolling in your post, ie Perception 28 (d20+12). Those die rolls are otherwise very tiny print and the portion in parenthesis helps sort things out. Also if you don't state what it's for I could just assume you are attempting use a diplomatic roll to help your speech, or using a knowledge roll to try and make sense of things.

Bartomus has many questions and asks if anyone felt the tremor.

Stock looks around confused, unable to perceive the tremors in the ground.

Dorbin suggests that the Drow just move so they wouldn't have to worry about all the things going on.

Zanderallen tries to explain but finds there is not enough time so he sums up. Correctly

Micah points out the Shields are not mercenaries but they are willing to help out.

Carver points out that Bartomus asked about a tremor. He suggests that maybe whatever is doing its attack from below is getting ready to attack from below.

Sid asks about Troglodytes.

Stohp doesn't feel the tremor but thinks it could be an opportunity to find out what's making the holes.

Just as a reminder you are fairly high in the mountains (think Denver, the mile high city) on a plateau.

"If you left your city for 30 of your years and returned to find it deserted and broken, would you try to restore it knowing that the residents are still around, displaced, living in fear in hidden shelters, and treated as second class beings where-ever they were currently eking out an existence?"

Lady Athena replies to Dorbin, "Would you up and leave your home on the Float to avoid threats you could not see? Would you be happy living in a place you did not call home?"

Lady Yasume shrugs, "We have never had to deal with Troglodytes.

The major domo comes in, "Councillor's there seems to be a disturbance. Several runners are reporting tremors from around the city."

Lady Bralfay stands and walks over to one of the walls. "Show me." she says. You can see from where you are that section of walls has several rolled up things which look like large scrolls, suspended by rods. You then see her pull one of the scrolls upon revealing itself to be a map (see the map above). The Major Domo then points to three different spots on the map.

You will have to use Knowledge Engineering 20, or Knowledge Dungeoneering 20, or Knowledge Geography 20, to triangulate the points on the map and determine the probable exit point of whatever is trying to come up from below. At least it's not going to be a graboid. You may work together with aid another, I will even allow you to aid another with a different skill. In other words you could use knowledge engineering to help someone else knowledge dungeoneering.

Bartomus tried looking at the large wall map and couldn't really figure it all out. Part of it might be that the rumbling had puzzled him as to what could have caused that. He turned to Micah and Zander, "If it makes a rumble that we can feel up here, and has prints the size of all of those we saw down there, do either of you know what it might be that we have coming up from the kobold's mines?"

The coordinates point to the second tier on the northeast side of the map. More specifically on the thin outer edge on the northern side.

Lady Yasume exclaimes, "That is near the spider house and the silk spinning buildings!" As a reminder their garments were spun from spider silk, how many small spiders would it take to get that much silk? Who says they are tiny...

Lady Bralfay says, "That is not good."

"Quickly, follow me." Lady Yasume proclaims leading the way.

Lady Bralfay shouts after, "I'll try to send some help.

I'm assuming you are going to follow her. In less than a minute you are out the door and down a paved pathway. Lady Yasume points at two buildings in front of you. "The far one is the silk weaving building, and the near one is the spider house."

Stohp looks about for any sign of the what made the disturbance (perception 20). "If they tunneled right into the building I assume that would mean the silk building, as they'd be after the product and not the spiders. But that assumes they know what's in the buildings and aren't just checking random ones for what they want."

If there are no signs of what's going on from the outside then she suggests they check in both buildings real quick - after all it seems implausible a tunnel from below could dig up to anywhere but the ground floor of the buildings so a quick look might tell them where the enemy is.

Bartomus grabbed a couple of the treats that they were given earlier, and a quick gulp of wine, as the Shields went running behind Lady Yasme and her guards. He asked as they were hurrying along, "Ok, again, any clue what could cause that type of rumble? Are we talking something really big, or a lot of somethings? Anyone?"

He continued on behind the others looking about as they came upon two taller buildings. When the Lady mentioned spiders, he said somewhat louder than he expected, "Spiders, it had to be spiders? At least it's not snakes, right it's not snakes?'

As they came to a more cautious pace, he took a look about and kept also a feel to the ground to get any sense of what they were rushing into. "So, are these little spiders, or are these a lot bigger as in they might be attracting something as being a food source for the rumble-causing unknown?"

I'm guessing this silk manufacturing is important, so let's make sure it doesn't get damaged." It is now nearing dusk. You are in the shade of a higher elevation and west is to your backs.

Carver moves up, quiet silently except for some clanking of armor. At least his horseshoes don't go cracking on the pavement. He thinks he can see a tiny bit between the buildings and there might be movement south of the Weaving House.

Alas, Zanderallen, Stoph, and Bartomus cannot see around the buildings. You can see the west and north face of both buildings, but there is nothing out of the ordinary. At least nothing in your eyes, you've never been here before. NOPE nothing, Lady Yasume would tell you if there was something wrong with THESE sides of the buildings.

Lady Bralfay says, "The spiders are maybe a bit bigger than the dwarf. They are relatively peaceful, but can become cantankerous if prodded too much."

Bartomus wonders what could be causing the rumbling, without seeing any specific evidence his mind wanders...ants, hundreds of giant ants; Bulette(s); bunch of hasted Duergar; really big Earth Elemental or a multitude of smaller ones; Purple Worm; Umber Hulk; just to name a few.

Bartomus had started to walk towards the spider house at a pretty good clip and came to a halt mid-step when Lady Bralfray said that the spiders were larger than a dwarf. He slowly turned his gaze back at her and then at Stock. His eyes went wide and continued on shaking his head, he asked aloud to no one in particular, "What by the Float do you feed them?"

Lady Yasume answers Bartamus. "Oh, sheep mostly."

Carver and Stohp move up and take a look around. To the south of the Weaving House, they can see a large hole in the ground (the big black thing I tried to make into a circle, but making a circle is not easy with squares). Near the hole they see a hooded man sized creature and standing nearby a Troglodyte. Unfortunately because of the angles of the building you are limited by your view, and actually you saw those figures as you crossed along your route. I'm not sure you could see them from where you ended movement.

Carver and Stohp please make a stealth check. Target 14. Hmm, what's the penalty for carrying a torch (flaming lance)?

Dorbin cannot see anything moving in the windows of the Spider house.

Stock stares at the ground but at best he can make out some old boot prints where maybe someone walked off the path to get around something. The grass looks like it's being maintained by sheep wandering around eating it. You don't see any current sheep, but that's to be expected because usually animals don't much care for the ground trembling beneath their feet.

All except Zanderallen move west and south, but generally west.

Strangly it's kind of hard for an 7 foot 800 lbs cow lady to be very stealthy. Equally surprisingly they don't notice her anyway (rolled an 11, going to hero point for +4 cause why not?). She moves around the corner (AF/AG 0/1) and makes a "quiet" motion to the others while pointing at the enemy.

Carver makes no pretense of trying to stealth as he shifts forward a bit and tries to detect evil. Alsa they are way out of the 60 foot range of that ability/spell. Each square is 5 feet.

Dorbin moves to the Spider house.

Carver clearly hears and understands the hooded person, "He's telling the Trog to call in his men as reinforcements." No sense being quiet, so Carver passes it on loud enough Dorbin can hear it, those around the corner, maybe not so well.... (rolled 6 too high for perceptions so 21=15, 18=12)
Carver tries to recall what he knows about trogs, (know:local 8 fail)
As a standard action, Carver calls upon Lord Gargul to grant his weapon the Merciful blessing and since the Lance is already flaming and shedding light, it should go unnoticed, except that he "blessed" his weapon. (Bonded Weapon glows like a torch when called upon.)

Sid attempts to climb the house but fails. You need a 25 for typical lower levels of a building, also climbing is 1/4 of your move rate, that building is 30 feet tall, it would take you a double move and another move to get to the roof in that corner. Also you can't climb with something in your hand.

Zanderallen can see a bunch of Troglodytes come pouring out the of the Weaving house. He notes quickly the javelins and clubs in their hands.

Zanderallen and Stock can see that there are 2 hooded figures. H1 glances at Zanderallen, Perception 15 Zanderallend only. Bartomus quickly moved his fingers and could see a bit better in the changing light and watched as Carver suddenly became some type of Centcushion as something obviously struck him from the dim-lit beyond. As he started off, even a javeline came flying out of the dim twilight. He dash across the street following behind Stohp who got to the corner of the Weaving House quicker than he could. He asked her in a whisper, "So what do we got coming at us?"

Dorbin can hear the action and as soon as Bartomous steps out of the way, he can see into the mass or trogs. Staying at the corner, he quickly casts a spell, waving a small, dried squid tentacle in the direction of the monsters.

Casting black tentacles (range 190'). Putting a straight edge on my screen, I think Dorbin can see and would aim for T8 (AV20) to center the spell. It has a 20' radius spread, so should cover ALL the T monsters (even T1), and even H2. They are all attacked with a grapple of 26 (d20+14). If they are grappled, they receive 7 damage and are grappled. They need to beat CMD 24 to escape the grapple. They cannot be damaged and the terrain is considered difficult as long as the tentacles remain.

Carver feels the poison start to flow in his veins and calls forth a Heroic effort to attempt to resist it's lure of surrender to it's power. He feels his will exert it'self and proceeds to see some of the poison drip from the wounds he took from the crossbow bolts.
"Those Crossbows are poisoned, we need to take them out."
He rears up and takes off like a bolt, his hooves leaving a streak of glowing blue horseshoe shaped tracks in the air, he suddenly takes a turn, not just a slight turn either, his right front hoof dig into the ground and left a divot in the street. As he regains his momentum he's still moving at a charge but now headed right past H1.
As he lowers the lance to attack position, he mentally suppresses the blessing granted by Gargul.
He strikes at the "person" who shot him, ending his move near enough to H2 to strike him if he tries to shoot again.

Initial part of charge is to AK/28, then turn and end move at AW/24 (Centaur Charge feat) With Ride by Attack and Powerful Charge

You can't count 20 foot radius, and have a square 5x5 on the inside as a starting point. You have to take a crosshair, in this instance I took the crosshair between T8 and T9. If it had been on the other side of T8, yes H2 would have been inside, but then so would have Carver.

Zanderallen charges forward and strikes the undead crossbow wielding thing, delivering a staggering but not 'fatal' blow. Crit not confirmed

Bartomus moved around where Stohp had been standing, looked at the sky and smiled, His fingers moved quickly and he summoned the charged cloud he needed.

With the enemies occupied by the spell or her allies Stohp feels safe enough to double move to right behind Zander. Hopefully she can grapple the hooded one and take him prisoner so they can find out more from these characters.

Carver again uses a heroic effort to force more of the poison from his bloodstream, he hopes that he got enough of it out that the rest won't have a negative effect on him. As the sword hit him, Carver snickers a bit. He turns away and charges away to the south. (drawing an AoO) He reaches and slaps his chest, allowing the power of Gargul to flow through himself and heal some of his wounds. (gaining 11 hp)
After running south for about 30 or 40 feet, he again spins around and charges back towards the guy who dropped the poisoned fancy crossbow. Ending the charge at AX/25.

Locked in close combat with the undead he feels the burning and then loss of sensation as the poison works it's way through his system. Clamping a quick hand over the crossbow bolt he heals the wound and by Domi's mercy the poison as well. With a cry of victory he presses the attack on the hooded undead. With the strength of his arms diminished he doesn't manage to land a single strike.

Micah moves up and enlarges Stock..
The figure is hooded and cloaked. You can't really see what it is that Zanderallen is fighting.

Bartomus shifts position and casts a spell, hitting Trog 8 and others.
I don't think you get a Dex save if your grappled and can't move.
Also you are within 30 feet of T3, you must make a DC 13 fortitude check or become sickened by their stench, and gain the Sickened Condition.

Stohp hurries to try to get behind Zanderallen.
I don't think I can get you exactly behind him, Stock got enlarged taking more space, and I tried counting square movement that was as close as I could get.

Carver gallops off turns and charges again, while doing some minor healing. He does manage to hit his target.
1 - I assume the d20+18 is your fortitude save for poison, EVEN THOUGH YOU DID NOT DECLARE IT AS SUCH.

The cloud formed instantly and the lightning did what it needed to do, well sort of. He realized one of the nasty looking reptilians was coming at him and it stank. It was worse than all of the horses of the clan when pinned up during a storm. He drew a line from the cloud down to the stinking creature with his left hand and readied his glave with his right.

Fortitude save 17; Call Lightning AQ17 on T4 for 19 dex save against 17 reduces that by half; readied attack option with glave.

Carver is more interested in other things than exactly what the hooded guy is. (rolled a 8 religion)
Rolled saves for each Trog, 5 & 8 make him sick, 3 & 4 were out of range, rest he's good for 24 hours (unless different rules are being used than normal)
Carver seeing the strange Crossbow laying on the ground, decides it's still dangerous, because of the poison that's being used....
He strikes out at the crossbow laying on the ground (attack to sunder it 21, damage 13 (forgot damage -2) bypassing hardness/adamantite weapon)
He lays hands on himself again, healing 7 more hit points as he again draws attacks of opportunity as he runs back to the south, ending up at BA/45 and turning around to face the fight....

As the armored Troglodyte fights with Stock Zander gets a good whiff of it's stench but manages to shake it off. Catching the undead's attack on his shield he returns the favor. His first swing is easily parried but was really a second intention attack as the second swing makes contact.

You just need to roll the stench effect once.

Stock shouts and strikes hard.

Bartomus calls down some more lighting. It's a standard action to call down the bolt, you can't have the glave readied. The bolt comes down and the Troglodyte seems a little dazed maybe because he clearly tried to avoid it, but stepped into instead.

Carver You only had to roll once. My bad I missed that extra post. You are safe for 24 hours. The repeating crossbow for H2 was dropped at AZ22, his original position. To get there you would draw AOO and have to squeeze past 2 opponents, which you can't do in combat. Best I can do is have you pull back and go around them, hit the crossbow and then retreat south. But you are not as far south as you wanted.
Carver swings around and attacks the defenseless repeating crossbow on the ground. He then retreats a bit.

Zanderallen swings and attacks, easily killing the undead creature. Stench safe for 24 hours

Dorbin lets the tentacles do their work, alas they have not killed anyone this round. An Eagle appears, alas the hooded figure that was to be it's target falls before Zander's sword.

Stohp curses to herself when hood 1 dies and the 2nd escapes. They're clearly the leaders and she had planned on catching one of them. Disgruntled she moves to secure one of the trogs in the black tentacles, ignoring the foul stench it gives off (13 fort, just enough). "Enough! Take the rest alive or we accomplish nothing here - we need to know what they are after."

Double move to AQ/AR 18/19. She can't also grab it this round, but if it runs she should get an AoO to do so.

MY BAD - T2 is still alive, T8 is dead. I had the text right but the map wrong, and no one caught it. I fixed the map

Bartomus calls lighting down again I think I made a mistake on your first blast. It says a 5 foot square, nothing about collateral damage to adjacent squares. Also noted you are rolling 4d10, Call lighting is 3d6 and Call lighting storm is 5d6 - it is not storming so you don't get the extra die, which version are you using? You didn't specify a target square so I'm going to say T3?
And a bolt of lighting comes down crisping T3 killing him.

Stohp moves while calling out that you need prisoners.

Zanderallen jumps down the hole, realizing that on this end it is only 5 feet deep and goes charging at the hooded figure Technically it's rough terrain, I don't think you can charge, but he's in 1 move of you, see the extended map at the bottom of the map. And just barely catching up to H2 he swings his sword and ends it's pathetic undead status.

Dorbin dismisses his black tentacles spell.

Micah moves and casts a spell. AU 29 is in the hole, how about AU28? Suddenly an invisible Troglodyte pops into visibility at AZ23.

Zanderallen moves forward/downward and calls out to the fleeing Troglodyte in its native tongue. Also Zanderallen can see that ahead the tunnel begins to turn leftward as it descends.

Bartomus moves asking some questions. AP20 would have you overlapping with Sid's character. How about AQ29.

Dorbin moves to the chaos at the hole. Don't forget your eagle is flying around doing nothing.

Carver moves down the hole and gives the Troglodyte a little love tap.

Stohp readies herself to rush a troglodyte. When it appears it is out of range, you didn't say you were going to move unless in range, but also assume Stohp would try to position herself to be able to get an attack in maybe next round.

Sid shoots. Actually all 3 shots hit, rolling another damage for you. Man you really need to put something else with that bow for some extra damage, frost, fire, lighting, it would just up your killing ability with that thing. All three arrows hit the Troglodyte and it falls over hitting the ground with a dull thud.

T2 is clearly startled to be visible. He/She/It whips out scroll and says the words inscribed. Suddenly a wall of stone pops up on the battlefield. It is 5 feet high, the Troglodyte ducks a little to get some cover. Though I would think Stohp's height could let her see over it somewhat.

T5 flings a javelin at Stohp and moves to the cover of the wall of stone.

Zander moves to the down trog, stowing his shield as he does. Holding his sword like a torch he checks on the trog. He hopes the thing isn't bleeding out as he struggles to find a pulse in the lizard like creature and starts dragging him out of the tunnel.

Micah approaches the wall, gambling that the apparent leader speaks common, he tries his wand on the troglodyte caster, jumping up if he needs to, to see his target over the newly formed wall. "APPROACH!" he commands.

Then, he shouts, "Carver, you are the swiftest. We need combat support against this trog caster! Take him alive if you can."

Dorbin watches as many of the group disappears down into the hole. He sees the wall go up and that others seems to have the enemy in hand. He directs his eagle over to support those at the wall. It will only attack if one of the trogs continues to try and escape. He turns to Lady Yasume and says, "Oh, it can be exciting, but it really is much more dangerous than it looks."

Stohp moves around the wall and easily grabs the Troglodyte.

Zanderallen discovers the tunnel trog is still alive.

Micah tries his wand of command at the Trog sorcerer. (will save 23)

Stock picks up the tunnel trog and begins carrying him to the top.

Dorbin sends the eagle over the wall and talks to Lady Yasume.

Carver moves back to the surface completely missing the prone hood 2 in the tunnel that Zanderallen down.

Bartomus stopped at the tunnel and kept looking at it and looking at it...and looking at it. Then he shrugged and started to pick his way down to try to help Stock. "Sorry, just not all certain we jump down into the dark tunnel, cause these sure as heck didn't build this."

The Taur pointed about the round tunnel and tries to help Stock with the struggling Trog. "I can just hit it really hard on the head with this," he said as he shifted his glave.

Stock carries the troglodyte as far as he can and says to Z, "You know maybe it wasn't the smartest thing to chase these guys down this tunnel. I'm kind of with Bart on this. I came after you because I know my way underground better than you...but these tunnels are a bit ominous."

Zander bows his head a little at Stock's rebuke, "You're probably right. I just didn't want them escaping and warning whoever it is that sent them. If it makes you feel better about my sanity I wasn't planning on chasing this one down until Sid managed to drop it with his arrows. Nice shooting by the way Sid." Zander scrambles out of the tunnel spotting the remaining Trogs and starting to head towards them.

Dorbin instructs the eagle to land on the wall and look threatening, hoping that will help subdue the non-surrendering trogs. He looks around the battlefield, and all seems to be in hand. Then he looks over at Yasume and realizes what she's doing (sense motive: d20+4=22). His face turns bright red and he looks around, wondering where his cat has gone.

Bartomus tries to lend a hand, but Stock's captive is unconscious, it's Stohp's captive that is still struggling.

Stohp body slams her captive to the ground. Stohp knows all the trogs have been speaking draconic.

Carver easily pops the trog sorcerer on the head. (Actually my bad his stat bar says grappled but he wasn't but his armor class is 17 so you still easily hit).

Stock comes out of the tunnel hauling his unconscious, unbound, captive.

Zanderallen comes out of the tunnel. (Umm, there's still the dead hooded skeleton (h2) back in the tunnel).

MIcah moves around to engage the trog sorcerer only to find that Carver has already rendered him unconscious. Unfortunately his words, spoken in common, cannot be understood by any of the trogs.

Dorbin lands the eagle and then realizes the potential trouble he's in.

Sid peers down the tunnel but doesn't see anything moving anymore.

Trog sorcerer (t2) falls unconscious to the ground.

The trog that Stohp has pinned to the ground just starts making a strange hissing sound accompanied by some snotty sniffing. Stohp can feel that the creature isn't even trying to do anything anymore.

"Well now, that was a bit of a different approach to the night," Bartomus said to no one in particular. He looked about and moved back up to the surface area near the tunnel opening. He looked back down and asked, "so do we want to toss something down into that so we can see if something is coming back up for these guys?"

He looked about and tried to find Lady Yasume. He just asked really loudly, "who speaks their language so we can get something out of them that is useful? I mean I am all for setting up that wizard's questioning with his back to say the open door of the Spider House. But, I might be just a little bitter about all of this too right now."

With all the trogs unconscious or being sat upon Zander ducks back into the tunnel real quick to gather the hooded undead and carry it back up. He lays it near the other hooded undead calls Micah over, "Brother Micah, any idea what these things are? I wonder if they have more of those poisoned darts, I'm curious what kind of poison they used." He then walks over to Stohp and her prisoner and continues in Draconic, "Alright my new friend, we're new around here and before you attacked we were really just looking to talk and get some answers. If you're willing to answer some questions I'm sure we can be friends. If you don't then we'll be forced to keep you locked up until we can go down your tunnel and find out for ourselves. As a sign of good faith I'm sure my large friend would get off of you, just please don't try to do anything stupid." Zander winks at Stohp and holds out an arm to the Trog.

At Zanderallen's call, he walks over and removes the hood. He frowns a moment, then proclaim, "These are skeletal champion. I would say they are of drow origin."

He then turns to their contact and inquires, a grave expression on his face as he ponders the implications, "Lady Yasume, these creatures appear to have once been of your people. What do you make of this?"

Carver realizes the conscious trog is crying.

Stohp tries to reason with the trog.

Bartomus is a bit put out by things.

Zanderallen asks for Micah to take a look at the hooded creatures and asks about the crossbow bolds not darts they were using. Alas, no one has done any searches of the bodies, or gathering of the loot. Then he tries the hand of friendship on the trog.

Stock asks Lady Yasume to check the buildings for vandalism. And checks the crater for tracks.
Stock drops off the body and as he takes a breather, looks around at the surrounding buildings. Specifically he is looking to see if there are any signs of forced entry.

Dorbin finds some relief.

Sid keeps his eyes peeled.

Micah announces that the hooded figures were "These are skeletal champion. I would say they are of drow origin." He asks Lady Yasume what to make of these things.
Micah knows...
1 - Skeletal Champions are special and retain their intelligence and skills of before they were made undead.
2 - They have DR5/bludgeoning, I missed that, good to know.
3 - They have channel resistance.
4 - They have spell resistance, I may have missed that too, need to read the stats better, but it's not easy when it splits over to page 2 on the master monster document.

The Trog rasps out in draconic but I'm assuming you'll be translating. "Fates worse than death that's the reward for failure. We've failed. Those that have fallen are free, at least for now." He stares at Stohp and Zanderallen. "Bah, no good will come of anything. Fate conspired against the tribe when we sought new dwellings. Too good to just have allies and new slaves. Greed brought us to the darkness." He spits some blood. "What have you say? Then quick kill and send my soul to peace."

Stock looks around the tunnel entrance. Appears that the troglodytes came up the hole and then went over to the weaving house. Pretty hard to read what with all the stomping around and spilling of blood.

Bartomus and Stock, please make an incredibly high Knowledge Nature roll since you are examining the tunnel area. I'll tell you the target is 22, maybe you can get some aid another?

Stohp does translate for the Trogg. In common, she tells the group, specifically Lady Yasune if she's near as she would probably be the one deciding the Trogg's fate. In common, "I don't think we'll get anywhere threatening him and it sounds like someone or something might be enslaving the troggs for their own purpose. If we remove whatever that is, it might bring us closer to a solution."

Back to the Trog she speaks again in Draconic. "We aren't going to kill you, and we'll do our best to protect you from whatever would punish you. Tell us all you know of what threatens you and makes you raid us. Just the other day we defeated tentacled horrors from beneath the waves, and we command more power then you know. We would defeat that which threatens the Drow and free your people to end the raids." (Diplomacy 27 to get the trog to help/make him like/trust her).

To the trog he says, "What's this about new dwellings? Is that your way of saying you dug too greedily and too deep and awoke something in the darkness? And talk plainly please, what were you actually doing up here? Why that building there?" He points at the weaving house.

Stock then goes and investigates the weaving house.

Micah sees that the prisoners are being accounted for. He watches Stohp thoughtfully. Although he cannot understand what she is saying, he notes the body language and tone. Thinking that she appears to have the situation well in hand, he proceeds to deal with the fallen and casts detect magic.

Going back to the conversation way of posting.

Stohp tells the trog,"We aren't going to kill you, and we'll do our best to protect you from whatever would punish you. Tell us all you know of what threatens you and makes you raid us. Just the other day we defeated tentacled horrors from beneath the waves, and we command more power then you know. We would defeat that which threatens the Drow and free your people to end the raids."

The Trog cocks his head at her. "Chieftan make us raid. He says Lord is angry because forest not right. Say's go to top and find histories. I don't understand. What threatens Drow? What Drow?" You realize that the Troglodytes have never encountered any Drow in their raids, they have usually been hitting abandoned places.

Bartomus eyes the hole. He notes the deep regular chisel marks along the sides, the ridge like undulations of the tunnel itself. Then he realizes that the tunnel was not dug, it was eaten out, by something big.

Stock looks with Bartomus and agrees with the findings Bartomus points out. With Bartomus's realization that the tunnel was eaten Stock has a dread feeling and remembers ancient dwarven tales of huge armored purple worms. you're welcome. :-)

Stock directs some questions to be translated remember he only speaks Draconic to the Trog "What's this about new dwellings? Is that your way of saying you dug too greedily and too deep and awoke something in the darkness? And talk plainly please, what were you actually doing up here? Why that building there?"

The Trog answers the redirected questions, We come from far away, find kobold mines, nice place, lots of food." He smacks his lips in a knowing way. "Yes great old one, Lord, found deep in old mine. Scary man. Takes many prisoners, not many kobold left. Chieftan start giving Trog's that displease, never seen again. Come up here find old books. That building closest." He's telling you what he knows and understands for his level in the pecking order of the Troglodyte power structure and his intelligence.

Dorbin looks in the window of the weaving building but there's nothing to see here. Really there's no movement inside the building. I think you got confused when Lady Yasume went there first and then was called back by Micah.

Zanderallen tries to probe the trog some more. "You say they're free for now. It seems like you allied with those that deal in necromancy and the command of undead. And from what I've observed your people seem to be somewhat reluctant allies. Like my friend says, we can help. We just need to know what you're dealing with."

The Trog turns to Zanderallen, "Never seen him, just heard others talk. Ancient man with things at this command, some undead like those," he points to the hooded corpses. "Some things that are ... built?. And he commands the Kirshacka to dig." When he see's your confused looks at the proper name he used. "Kirshacka, you know armored purple worm.

Carver eyes the trogs and Lady Yasume. The Troglodytes are very definitely evil. No evil coming from Lady Yasume.

Lady Yasume takes Dorbin's hand. "You're friend said I should check out the building. Do you want to come guard me?"

In Celestial, Carver figures the Trog's will have no idea what he says in it, "Lady Yasume, can you understand this language?" Either way, Carver is sure some of the group does understand it, so continues.
Umm, no, they aren't going to leave or be freed, at least not by me, unless they manage to under go some sort of major change. Evil as they are, I'd trust any promise they make about as far as I can throw that building, which is absolutely no where.
I know you like to talk your way past things, and while that's a good general rule, but I'm sorry, I draw a line at Evil that attacks us first.
And if we are dealing with someone who creates and commands undead, I won't hesitate to drive my lance through his chest. It's just not something I can just let it pass. I hope you can understand why I feel that way."

Carver will translate enough into common unless Lady Yasume indicates she can understand it.

Micah is unable to follow most of the conversation, so he focuses on examining the captured equipment. He whistles softly as he sees the number of magic auras radiating so many things.

When he hears the Lady's request to Dorbin, the priest grows wary. "Please allow me to accompany you as well," he offers as he rises to join them, leaving the magic items for the moment.

Stock recognizes the reference to the purple worm at the exact moment he connects it to the hole in the ground. He groans. "Purple worms...armored. Fabulous. Something tells me I'm going to be eaten alive again...Still though. It seems like we could potentially start exploring through these caves. Or we could follow the path the kobolds took when they fled. It sounds like they'll both lead to the same place.

Stohp translates, then tries to think through the implications of all that was said. "So the troggs come from elsewhere, find the kobold caves, and move in. Possibly they're the ones that enslaved the kobolds, but I thought I remembered lizardfolk being mentioned in relation to that. Maybe I'm misremembering. Anyways, in the mines they dug down and found something or someone powerful and now he enslaves them. People sent to him disappear, trogg and kobold alike, and he seems to be some way connected to the woods, or at least wants to figure out what happened to the woods. The troggs are raiding up here to find documents, histories, and may not even realize the Drow are living here."

Stohp does not include celestial among the many languages she speaks and raises an eyebrow at Carver when he speaks in it. She can guess at his purpose, but wonders why he didn't go with Elvish, a language more likely to be understood by the Lady and his companions but not the Trogg.

"Seems like we'll need to deal with this Lord, his undead minions, and the purple worm or worms. Once we remove them from the equation we can probably "convince" the trogs to go back home, then the kobolds can go home, and the drow can have their home back. Carver tries to engage the group in a Celestial conversation. However, the group appears to be but simple folk and don't understand a word he says. And besides the Troglodytes only understand Draconic, so speaking in common is perfectly safe.

Stock thinks the party can travel down the purple worm highway. And no, you can't do what the kobolds did because they used the archway portal and then disabled it.

Stohp translates Stock's question.

The trog shrugs in response. "Never seen in person the master, just do what chief says and he gots them hooded ones with him. Just the one Kirshacka, he is under master's control does not bother us." Which might give you pause, after all, how can someone control a purple worm...must be some powerful magic going on there.

Stohp excellently sums up what has happened. Have yourself a hero point. For clarification lizard folk can refer to all lizard humanoid species, so yes Troglodytes are a form of lizard folk.

Zanderallen contemplates the steps needed to restore order. Except that 'convincing an inheriently evil race to pack up and move back to where they moved from might not be that easy... or likely.

Dorbin escorts Lady Yasume into the weaving house.

Micah hurridly goes through the magic gear and then leaves it where it's lying along with the and 12 pouches taken off the troglodytes and skeletal champions.

Entering the weaving house Dorbin and Micah see that the doors have been broken open. Inside the first floor is full of bins of spider silk. There are numerous spinning wheels scattered around the room. Along the back are shelves of dyes and barrels for dying the spun spider silk. A few bins are overturned but it is obvious that the troglodytes did not have much time to get in and mess things up. The second floor hosts a myriad amount of different size looms and some sewing tables. Here is where the spider silk/thread/yarn is turned into fabric and then turned into garments. The third floor is an arrangement of open work spaces. Each appears to serve a different purpose, a few are design offices where clothes are designed, but over half appear to be the workshop of wizards. Indeed it appears that magical vestments are part of what the Drow will be selling in the near future on the Float.

Lady Yasume turns to Dorbin. "We have several tomes of magic that our learned mages are trying their hands at in creating some magical garments. Perhaps you'd like to stay awhile and learn the craft yourself?"

Meanwhile...Stohp...and anyone with her and the 'prisoner'.

(Stohp can't actually fail that roll with a +16, and I never said she let go of the Trogg, she just started talking to him.) Stohp tugs on the prisoner, pulling him back where he was. "No trying to escape. There's a lot of people here with sharp weapons that will likely react badly if you try it. Besides from all you've said going back would just end in you being given to the Lord and suffering some horrible fate for talking to us. Your fate is up to the drow, not me, but from what you've said they won't be nearly as bad as whatever awaits you with the lord."

He then heads to the unopened bags to inspect them.

Bartomus just kept looking about the opening and then back at the area of the fight. Then back at the opening. Stock shared with everyone that the opening had been made by a purple worm and Bartomus stayed quiet. As the talk with the captured wizard provided a bit more background, Bartomus realized that the hadn't asked a few questions.

"Where did it go?" Bartomus stood as he asked the question somewhat absently, but then focused. "Ask him where the worm went? Where it came from? Who controlled it? Are there more that they can use? The hooded ones, how many of those are about the Chief?"

His questions came along with his steps as he approached Stock and Stohp with the captured trog. "Then ask yourselves this, why would something need books and scrolls, unless there was something that might have been imprisoned a long time ago? Maybe we should ask the Drow if there are legends about something being kept in the mountain or locked within its depths?"

Micah surveys the operation with a craftsman's eye. Although not familiar with the specifics of textile manufacture, he can relate the various functions to those of the smithy in which he grew up.

When the lady asks her question of Dorbin, his face pales in realization. Unconsciously holding his breath, he awaits Dorbin's reply fearing that the lure of gaining this new knowledge may tempt the young wizard to separate from the Shields. Not Pesmer again," he thinks, reflecting on the first wizard to be a part of the Silver Shields.

Not seeing any further information to gain from the prisoner Zander leaves the trog in Stohp's capable hands. He heads over to Lady Yasume and scowls upon seeing what is going on. "Lady Yasume, a moment please. I think we've learned just about everything these trogs know. Since we are acting on your behalf and they invaded your city we will be turning them over to you. It seems the trogs have been drafted by some evil power from the lower depths that commands undead and a purple worm. I think the basics of the current plan is take a tunnel down, find and destroy the worm, the undead, and the leader, and bash enough trog heads until the remaining ones are convinced to leave. I hesitate to ask but would any of your clerics be able to provide Lesser Restoration, the poison those undead were using has left me a little woozy?"

Stohp tells the Trog he's not going anywhere, with a firm grab thrown in.

Stock senses that Carver is not happy and checks the pouches/bags.

Bartomus asks many questions.

Micah examines the weaving building. He has a slight sense of dread.

Zanderallen turns to ask Lady Yasume a question, but she is deep in the weaving building...

Dorbin looks around fascinated.

Sid wants more information about this armored worm.

Carver ... (technically posted twice last turn, but nothing from this turn).

Stock looks in the dead's bad guys pouches and finds, a lot of small uncut gems totaling 960 gp, and 443 gold pieces.

Bartomus asked where it came from. The trog answers, "It came from sleep place and went up tunnels and then dug this one, we followed. When it hit surface it backs out and then goes down and around to main tunnel. Long walk to get up here. Many hours."

B - Who controlled it? - already answered, the evil 'lord' that appears to have cowed the Troglodyte chieftan.

B - Are there more that they can use? - already answered, there's only 1.

B - The hooded ones, how many of those are about the Chief? The trog shrugs, "They come and go. Sometimes none, sometimes, one, sometimes more." like I'm going to tell you the full complement of baddies. ;-P

Bartomus informs Sid that purple worms naturally have plates of chitinous armor. That is what the Trog is referring to when he says armored, purple worms are not soft and squishy.

At this time reinforcements arrive in the form of Lady Larvanya, with 4 elite looking body guards and 30 foot soldiers. Lady Larvanya nods, "I see we have chosen well in seeking experienced adventurers."

When Zanderallen starts to ask about healing, and realizes that Lady Yasume is gone, Lady Larvanya says, "Not a problem." and promptly casts Lesser Restoration twice upon Zanereallen. She then says, "Does anyone else need healing?"

Bartomus can then ask his question about legends about something being kept in the mountain or locked within its depths? Lady Yasume contemplates the matter. "It is hard to say, we have lived apart from our less desirable brethren for centuries. A millennium or more ago, when the surface Drow first came to the surface, they left the catacombs and warrens beneath the earth and emerged in the great forest. It is said our people dwelled there for many years, until the forest became evil and the lizard folk and green dragons made war upon us. Then our ancestors fled to this mountain top and built this city. I would presume that since our ancestors left the underWold in this general vicinity that there may indeed be old passages that still connect down there."

Carver still having detect evil up, since that was what he was last doing, can detect no evil among the drow that just showed up.

"So kill the Chief or we kill that that controls what made that," Bartomus gestured at the hole. He shrugged and continued, "so do we spend hours walking down into that hole, probably triggering a whole bunch of nasty look-a-likes to that thing. Or, by any chance any stories about a scary don't open this special door or this tunnel cause it's where the daytime nasties live in the really dark places of the mountain?"

He turned back to Lady Yasume as he asked that question.

Zanderallen thanks Lady Larvanya for the healing and gathers with the Shields, "Looks like only way up and down the mountain right now is these tunnels till we find the kobold's portal key down below, which we need to get a description of. So down the tunnel and let's start knocking some heads until they take us to their leader. Now where did Dorbin get to?" Zander heads into the weaving house looking for the young wizard.

Carver indicates that a little physical healing would do him well, when healing is offered.
Thinking on Purple Worms (know:Arcana 9) Carver may have heard of them and all he knows, is that they're called purple, so he figures they must be actually purple.
He examines the Belt and crossbow to see if he can figure out what they are. (Belt 26, crossbow 23)
Carver is not interested in going into the factory, unless he hears screaming, he plans on staying outside.

Stohp brings up a more immediate concern. "What should we do with the prisoner? This is your city and your laws so I presume you have a place to keep him in custody. They don't seem to know the city is occupied, or at least he didn't, so I personally suggest leniency. After all they only broke into a few empty buildings. Well, they did fight us, but while under the thumb of those robed guys."

Bartomus asks the Drow if there are any rumors or legends they have about what's under the mountain.

Stock would like some healing. Yes the tunnel was a straight descent for about 200 feet and then starts bending counter clockwise. No one went to the bend.

Zanderallen states the only way down is the worm highway. He asks about the gate portal that led to the lower levels.

Dorbin continues exploring.

Micah asks Dorbin if maybe he ought to take the opportunity to say goodbye to the Silver Shields.

Carver examines the Belt and crossbow to see if he can figure out what they are.

Sid waits with Stock until the others are ready, silently smiling at Dorbin's earlier predicament.

Stohp turns the prisoners over to the Drow.

Lady Yasume not being present yet, Lady Larvanya responds to Bartomus. "I'm afraid there's none that I have ever heard. You see it was a very long time ago. Why It'lal was Abandoned about 1,400 years ago. That was before I was born. I seem to remember by grandmother speaking of loosing to the reptiles during the wars. The Crying Wood was becoming too angry and our magic could no longer deflect it's sense's from us. I'm not sure how long before that the well for lack of a better term the surface Drow left the underWold."

Lady Larvanya will channel energy several times until everyone is fully healed. You notice that the wounded Troglodytes were also brought over for healing. But not until after they were manacled.

Lady Larvanya turns to what you assume is the ranking Drow guard. "See to the prisoners confinement. Make sure they are well guarded, we don't want them breaking free and possibly finding some way to sneak back down to where-ever and warning anyone." The guards start leading the prisoners away. Though they don't share any common language the guards manage to make their instructions known to the Troglodytes. Lady Larvanya calls out to the guards, "Make sure to feed them."

Lady Larvanya then returns her attention to the Silver Shields and explains, "The portal gates are just as they sound, they each have a keystone, which is naturally at the top of the arch. But it also has a keyhole carved into it. The key is placed in the keystone thus activating the gate. They key that activated the gate to the mines was silver and had a several small rubies in the key loop."

Caver examines the loot. The belt is a belt of giant strength +2, the crossbow is only masterwork, but the other crossbow 'clip' contains 5, +1 Frost Bolts.

Lady Yasume turns to Dorbin. "I think we should bet back to the others and let them know nothing was disturbed." She leads Dorbin back outside. Lady Yasume and ... Micah ... and ... and Dorbin exit the Weaving House. "There was nothing disturbed too badly within." She announces. Seeing Lady Larvanya she walks over to her.

Stock nods thanks to Lady Larvanya for the healing. Then he notices and hears the comments about Dorbin staying. He give a long look at Dorbin and nods. "If you stay behind, Dorbin, I get it. Nobody will think you are a coward. You've honored us this long." He stares at Emily Jasmine for a long moment before kneeling end extending his hand.

Satisfied that the prisoners are taken care of appropriately, Zander turns his attention to the hole. He files away Yasume's statement, that could be dealt with once they were back. He shifts his gear around a little to make sure it's balanced. "Anything else we need to take care of before we descend? The longer we wait around the more suspicious they'll be of their raiding party not making it back. I'd rather not disturb the nest before we're in it."

I assume you're going to head down into the tunnels -- please look for me on your return, perhaps I will have enough to return with you to the Float at that time."

"Mind if I snag one of the longsword and that invisibility wand? Since I'm most likely not be stealthy at all, it should be helpful.
As to being ready, no time like the present to get going."

Carver has the lance out, to use it as light, since he can't see in the dark... yet.

"I hate to say this, but we need to either go after these folks down there now, or make every effort to hide the bodies from this attack, while awaiting their next raiding party to sneak behind them and descend," he said as he looked at Dorbin. "A magical, spider silk top in my size, Dorbin would be really cool."

"I think Carver having the invisibility wand makes sense, not really sure what I should grab out of all of that, but gotta say that purple worm really has me a bit concerned," he added.

Micah clasps hands with Dorbin in farewell with a wordless nod.

After the young wizard moves away, he returns to the matters at hand. He nods agreement with Carver's suggestion to keep the sword and wand. "I will take one of the cloaks," he informs the others as he inspects it before donning it. "Who can make use of the belt? I can use it, but would prefer it go to anyone who might put it to better use? Stock, you should take at least one of the potions. If no one else takes them, I will grab a crossbow and the frost bolts. Or Bart, maybe you and I should split them?"

He helps with the disposition of the newly acquired items deliberately and methodically, wordlessly communication his agreement with the consensus to proceed down the tunnel. He realizes the scrolls were never identified, "Carver, now that Dorbin is separating from the Shields, you are our resident arcanist. Can you possibly identify these scrolls?"

"Sure, I can do that, it may take a few tries for me to cast read magic, but luckily it's one of the first I learned.
Oh, any extra healing, I'll be glad to take, my armor may reduce the damage, but it sure doesn't prevent them from hitting me."


Carver manages to get Read Magic cast on the first try and identifies the spell Scrolls as well.

Sid pats Dorbin's back, "I'm going to miss you down there, be safe here." He pulls him in and says, "Good luck. Remember, a nice bottle of Red on a beautiful night and reciting a love sonnet is nice, just don't choose anything that takes you longer than an hour to recite, that's a little heavy for a first or second date." He good naturedly pats his back again and says to the group. "We should go now. We don't generally do waiting and we can still possibly get there before anyone has mobilized. Maybe."
