Warehouse Fight!

On to the Warehouse (DM Cayzle)
Tuesday January 26th, 2016 12:14:21 PM

The warehouse is located behind (and shares a wall with) an eatery that is familiar to you all. Clare's Joint on Lakeview serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, though at this hour only the baker is likely stirring within. Your group is not particularly notable in a cosmopolitan city like the Big Float, except that fewer folk are up and about at dawn.

Micah stands by the door on the lakeward side. He's ready to cast a spell -- maybe a Bless, maybe an Enlarge.

Stohp stands next to Micah, filling the alleyway from side to side. She acts natural.

Martisan Odenthorp (marked "O" on the map) looks at the door and then steps back. She is hoping to find something or someone to sneak behind once the door opens.

Agrippa also inspects the door closely, ready to dash in once the way is open.

Pesmer stands behind Martisan. Norr stands behind him.

Agrippa and Martisan have some interesting things to reveal about the door ...

First, it is a set of double doors. One is five ft wide (41AA), and one is 10 ft wide (41AB-C). Both can be opened to make a huge opening, but looking at the pattern in the dirt at the base, it looks like the big door is very seldom opened. The smaller, five-ft door, is the one that is used daily.

Agrippa and Martisan also note two features of the heavy wood doors: a keyhole and a small shutter. The former suggests that the door may be locked, and the latter suggests that a person could stand inside the door, open the shutter, and look out on and speak with someone in the street without opening the door.

OOC: Please feel free to adjust your position on the map. We are not yet round-by-round, so take the actions you need to. Let me know if you have any questions.

And The Map!

OOC: Posted before I saw Norr's post. I'll adjust your position next time.

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 15/15 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13  d20+7=15 ; 2d4=7 ;
Tuesday January 26th, 2016 4:33:09 PM

(+1 Perception; +1 Disable Device; +1 Reflex Saves vs Traps; +1 AC vs Traps; +1 Flat-Footed AC for one hour)

Noticing the markings on the ground, the doors open outward. Agrippa requests Stohp to gently brush anything from the area in front of both doosr out of the way so as to not make a lot of noise when opening. She then walks to her pack and withdraws her Thieve's Tools. Her ears turn slightly red as she catches Micah's eyes, thieves tools in hand. Scratching the back of her neck, she examines the keyhole and attempts to pick the lock (Disable Device Check: 15). After 42 seconds (7 rounds) of attempts, she shakes her head. She whispers to the group, "I migh' be here a'while, but I also have a crowbar..."

Martisan Odenthorp (Damarr) HP: 15/15 | AC: 18 | T:14 | FF:15
Tuesday January 26th, 2016 6:37:42 PM

Finding no traps outside the entrance, Martisan watches Agrippa intently as she tries the lock. She shakes her head at the mention of the crowbar, sliding behind Agrippa for better observation and to and make room for Norr in the shrinking passage (moving to AA39; a few of us'll have to be repositioned for Norr if you're standing in AB39).

"Take all the time you need." She says softly "The crowbar would be real noisy; best used only as a last resort if you can't jimmie the lock after a few tries." She glances around the group, noting everyone's readied state and particularly eyeing the two large 'Taurs packed in around the door. "Then again, seems we have the element of surprise at the moment. We might have more to gain from a quick entry than a silent one..." She looks again to the others, content to quietly wait for Agrippa to pick the lock unless someone suggests otherwise.

Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 17/10/17
Tuesday January 26th, 2016 9:45:36 PM

Micah notices Agrippa's embarrassment and smiles reassuringly. All skills and knowledge can be used for aid or harm. He believes that stopping Eleazar's campaign of revenge is truly good and is thankful that Agrippa has the ability to make a quiet entry, providing less likelihood of injury to his allies or innocent bystanders who may be attracted to a less subtle means of entry.

"Domi give her success," he whispers quietly as he looks around to check that no others have noticed their loitering at the door.

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 13/12/10 CMB: +4
Wednesday January 27th, 2016 12:10:57 AM

Stohp clears away area as requested, though she's a bit unsure why she was selected for the task. As Agrippa attempts to unlock the door, she points out "We could just break it down, we have several strong warriors here."

On to the Warehouse (DM Cayzle)
Wednesday January 27th, 2016 8:10:36 AM

OOC Clarifications: From the hinges, you deduce that while the smaller door opens out, the larger one opens in. Also, the lock on the door is an average lock, requiring a DC25 Disable Device check to open. Also note that per the rules, "Attempting to open a lock is a full-round action." You can retry to open a lock. Hearing someone picking a lock is a DC20 Perception check, with a -1 modifier for each 10 ft of distance from the lock.

Agrippa works at the lock. She says that either it will take some time or she will get lucky.

Martisan empathizes and makes room for Norr.

Micah offers moral support and a small blessing. [OOC: Is that a Guidance spell? If so, you have to say so]

Stohp wonders if breaking down the door would just be better. [OOC: She figures the break DC on the door is an 18.

OOC: In the interest of getting the DM Post up sooner, I'm not updating the map after all. Imagine that you are more or less clustered near the door, and it will be fine. I'll put a new map up tomorrow.

Pesmer Zerase (Ryan W.) HP: 14/14 AC:12/12/10  d20+2=22 ;
Wednesday January 27th, 2016 8:38:55 AM

Pesmer, for the most part, stays where he is at as Agrippa tries to disable the lock. Figuring he had no real skill in helping them enter this place silently, he would focus on keeping an ear open in case he heard any noises coming from inside the building. (Perception 22)

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 15/15 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13  d20+7=22 ; d20+7=13 ; d3=3 ; d20+7=13 ; d20+7=27 ;
Wednesday January 27th, 2016 1:27:36 PM

(Ooc: oh I didn't notice the full-round thing. Ty~)

Agrippa rolls up her sleeves and tries again. She is trying to unlock it quickly, because taking as much time as she needs gives the enemy too many chances to hear her attempts.

(Ooc: The d3 roll was an accident, phones have small interfaces) After only 30 seconds of trying, *click*. She nods at the party, steps back return her tools, moves to Z39 preparing to stealth (20) behind the first person entering, and prays that they were all asleep.

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 15/15 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13
Wednesday January 27th, 2016 1:29:45 PM

(Ooc: Stohp was already in front of the door, was why I asked you.)

Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 17/10/17
Wednesday January 27th, 2016 8:37:09 PM

[OOC: Micah's prayer was roleplaying not a guidance spell.]

Micah did not realize he was holding his breath. When he notices Agrippa relax after unlocking the door, he releases it quietly, inwardly thanking Domi. He nods back with a smile.

[OOC: Did Agrippa open the large or the small door? The following assumes the smaller since it opens out. If it was the large door, adjust accordingly.]

Holding his shield, but leaving his hammer in his belt for now, Micah, after receiving visual confirmation from the others, reaches for the door handle and slowly pulls it open, making sure he hits no one in the process.

Norr (David S.) HP: 25/25 AC: 18 T: 11 FF: 16 CMB :+6  d20+1=5 ; d20+1=11 ;
Wednesday January 27th, 2016 10:54:48 PM

Norr watches over Micah as he opens the door, mentally and physically prepared to enter should trouble be waiting within. (Perception 5, ignore the second roll..)

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 13/12/10 CMB: +4  d20+7=18 ;
Thursday January 28th, 2016 1:57:18 AM

(I am shamelessly copying Agrippa's reminder text for myself. +1 Perception; +1 Disable Device; +1 Reflex Saves vs Traps; +1 AC vs Traps; +1 Flat-Footed AC for hour (50? rounds remaining))

Stohp winces a little as Micah slowly opens the door; he'll be silhouetted in it now and the light will shine into the building alerting those inside that someone is entering. They need to move fast now or they'll lose the element of surprise. If the large door is unlocked she'd help open it and move in quickly, looking around (perception 18). If only the smaller door is open she stands impatiently as the smaller folks enter, bouncing a hoof nervously.

Pesmer Zerase (Ryan W.) HP: 14/14 AC:12/12/10
Thursday January 28th, 2016 4:36:07 AM

(I am carrying on the touch for copying Agrippa's reminder text.. +1 Perception; +1 Disable Device; +1 Reflex Saves vs Traps; +1 AC vs Traps; +1 Flat-Footed AC for hour)

(My previous perception check would have been a 23 due to the bonus from the Performance from Martisan.)

Pesmer follows everyone else as he tries to stay somewhere in the middle of the group. He wasn't strong enough to be on he front line and would need to be close to sling spells should combat start. He wanted to cast a spell to protect himself now but was worried his chanting would break their silent entry, choosing instead to hold up his staff in both arms and ready himself for the charge.

DM Post in progress!

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 15/15 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13

(I am shamelessly copying Agrippa's reminder text for myself. +1 Perception; +1 Disable Device; +1 Reflex Saves vs Traps; +1 AC vs Traps; +1 Flat-Footed AC for hour (50? rounds remaining))

As the door opens, it's as if... time slows down. Agrippa grits her teeth and prepares for the ambush.

Into the Warehouse (DM Cayzle) Round 1
Friday January 29th, 2016 1:36:40 AM

Pesmer listens as Agrippa works at the lock. He hears sounds -- snoring? -- that seem to indicate life beyond the door.

Meanwhile, Agrippa tries five more times to open the lock. The perception DC for the enemy to do so is a base 20, with a +3 for being 30 ft away, and a +10 because the enemy is asleep. The enemy needs to roll a 33, and that is impossible with its +8 perception modifier. The door is unlocked without the sleeper within hearing anything.

Micah lets Agrippa step back, then he pulls the smaller door open. The warehouse within in dark. There's a shape on the floor 20 feet in, and maybe another shape on the floor 30 feet in. The area within 20 ft is dim lighting, beyond that, dark.

Stohp is well aware that the party is now on the clock. However, if there is any noise, the guardian within may wake!

Norr peers in, but sees nothing aside from a few barrels and the figure on the ground 20 feet in.

Pesmer wisely realizes that casting a spell is a DC0 check to hear, so the enemy would have to roll a base 0 +10 sleep penalty +3 distance penalty = DC13 to be woken by the spell.

The bound figure only 20 feet away is clearly a prisoner. He also happens to be our newest PC, played by Zachary. He is bound but not gagged. See my email for more inside info and background. Everyone, please welcome Zachary and also please describe your character's appearance as you come into view.

Is anyone carrying an active light source? I'm assuming not unless you mentioned it earlier and I missed your mention.

Any PC with darkvision, please Highlight to display spoiler: { You see that the nearer lump on the floor is a bound human. The lump 30 feet in is a sleeping giant rat. As big as a halfling. }

NOTE VERY WELL: If you whisper, the enemy will hear you and wake if it makes a perception roll of 25. If you are walking and not trying to be stealthy, it will hear you and wake on a 20. Both of those are modified by distance.

And The Map! NOTE: Current lighting is shown by color on the map. Also, there are barrels scattered on the map, but I forgot to show them, sorry.

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 15/15 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13
Friday January 29th, 2016 2:34:23 AM

(+1 Perception; +1 Disable Device; +1 Reflex Saves vs Traps; +1 AC vs Traps; +1 Flat-Footed AC)
(Stealth: 20)
Agrippa looks past Micah as he opens the door. Squinting, she gets a clear view of the person. As it appears nobody has woken up yet, she holds an open-faced hand pantomiming, "stop," to avoid waking them just yet. She also pats Micah's shoulder and does the gesture again.

Under the assumption that the party has their eyes on her at this point, She'll point to the figure in the middle of the room, and then lie her hands on her head faking sleep. She'll then show the dagger in her off-hand to everyone, and take it away with her other hand, pantomiming disarming him. Agrippa then points to the further lump, and curls her fingers into paws and bares her fangs, but also place her hands on her head faking sleep. She'll then draw her dagger across her neck very deliberately. These gestures (I tried to practice doing) would probably take 3 rounds to do on the fly. Afterwards, Agrippa will pat her chest and move her two fingers alternately, as if they were legs. She then looks at everyone with a knocked brow and a thumb up to confirm. She shows that she wants to make sure everyone is okay with this, or wants to change it, before starting.

She puts more weight on the leg towards the open door, showing her readiness.

Pesmer Zerase (Ryan W.) HP: 14/14 AC:12/12/10
Friday January 29th, 2016 7:56:51 AM

Pesmer blinks a few times as he watches Agrippa pantomime her plan, him just nodding a few times as he believed he understood her. Mostly.. He raises his Quarterstaff and nods, figuring he wouldn't go charging in until he heard screaming and yelling.

Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 AC: 11 T: 11 FF: 10  d20=5 ;
Friday January 29th, 2016 9:48:35 AM

Zanderallen, hoping the group that just opened the door is part of the guard, decides this is a good time to try and break out of the ropes he's been working on all night. (Str 5+2=7 DC 12) He struggles at his bond but is unable to break them. Managing to shift his face towards the door he flashes a winsome smile and hopes that his initial guess is correct, even if the group appears to be lead by a funny dancing woman.

(OOC: Not sure how to link character sheet to name yet. Zanderallen is a 2nd level paladin of Domi.)

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 13/12/10 CMB: +4
Friday January 29th, 2016 11:15:09 AM

Stohp nods along at Agrippa's pantomimes, but frowns when she makes the cutting motion. With a vigorous shake of her head Stohp mimes wacking someone on the head before passing her sap to the other Rogue.

Norr (David S.) HP: 25/25 AC: 18 T: 11 FF: 16 CMB :+6
Friday January 29th, 2016 11:48:09 AM

Norr watches Agrippa's pantomime, raising a hand to signal understanding. He is perfectly willing to let someone lighter on their feet like her make the first move in the dark warehouse.

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 15/15 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13
Friday January 29th, 2016 12:14:09 PM

(Ooc: I thought you were a trap for a moment, Zachary~ nice to meet you, though I wish in a different setting)

Agrippa breathes a sigh of relief upon understanding Stohp's wish to spare the rat. Nodding to Stohp, she pulls out her own regular sized sap. Even though it's not silver, it'll do something.

As she glances back into the room, she hears someone struggling inside and does a very obvious double-take at the [race] male smiling at her through the bindings.

(Ooc: the race of Zanderallen is determining the outcome of my engagement. Wasn't Eleazar a human..? Do we surround him?)

[If his race isn't human] She whispers to the party, "A hostage..?" and, looking at him, puts a finger to her lips, hoping the rat was not awakened by the noise of her whisper or his attempt to break bonds.

Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 17/10/17
Friday January 29th, 2016 5:13:32 PM

Being of medium height, but solidly built, Micah casts a long shadow into the warehouse. His shield bears no blazon, but an iron symbol of Domi is readily visible on hanging in front of his scaled armor.

Micah does not see the sleeping creatures he deduces from Agrippa's pantomime to be one of these accursed rodents laying outside his field of view, but gives her a thumbs up and slowly and quietly presses to the side to allow her to sneak inside. Should violence erupt he is poised to run into guard the bound, prone figure.

Pesmer Zerase (Ryan W.) HP: 14/14 AC:12/12/10
Saturday January 30th, 2016 5:03:48 AM

Pesmer blinks a few times as a whisper of 'Hostage' escapes Agrippa, him not being able to see very clearly in the rather dark building. He watches as Sap's are pulled out, figuring the two rogues wish to do nonlethal damage.. something his spells really cannot accomplish. He continues to watch and waits for them to do something.

Into the Warehouse (DM Cayzle) Rounds 2-3  d20+8=25 (check to hear Agrippa's whisper);
Saturday January 30th, 2016 10:46:09 AM

[OOC: Two rounds go by with this post.]

Agrippa, through clever pantomime, indicates Stop, Sleep, Remove dagger, Fierce monster over there, Sleep, and Dagger across the neck in the universal sign for KILL.

Pesmer nods that he understands and then holds his weapon ready.

The Captive smiles and struggles very quietly against his bonds, without success. [OOC: you can make one attempt per round, and this post takes two rounds, so I owe you another check. Please roll.]

Stohp shakes her head to disagree and hands Agrippa a sap.

Norr agrees and waits for the right time to move in.

Agrippa whispers a single word: "Hostage" -- which would have woken the sleeper had the sleeper been close, but across the room ... not quite. It shifts and settles back down.

Micah squeezes against the building so that Agrippa can slip past. He is ready to run to the hostage.

And here is The Same Map, since no one really moved. NOTE: Current lighting is shown by color on the map. I'm assuming no one has a light source. Barrels are still not shown.

Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 AC: 11 T: 11 FF: 10  d20+2=20 ; d20+1=16 ;
Saturday January 30th, 2016 12:25:23 PM

Zanderallen, seeing a symbol of Domi on one of the group, silently gives thanks that these people aren't with the rats even though he can't figure out why they are taking so long to get into the warehouse. But there is no time like the present to act, so he continues struggling against his bonds as the funny lady continues her pantomimes. Atleast she seems to have spotted the rat asleep in the room. (Str 20 DC 12) Breaking is bonds, Zanderallen stands and heads to the barrel he knows his gear is stashed in. He attempts to move as quietly as possible and draws his sword from the barrel. (Stealth of 16) As he stands and moves over to the barrel is tunic is easily visible emblazoned with the crest of Domi.

(OOC Character sheet should be linked now. Zanderallen is a human. The stealth check assumes he was stripped of his armor, if not then it's 4 lower, 12.)

Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 17/10/17
Saturday January 30th, 2016 5:51:44 PM

Micah catches his breath at the sight of the prisoner. His self-confident bearing, longish hair, and not quite beard are immediately recognizable even in the dim light as one of the paladins he has seen in the temple.

To reassure his allies, Micah points to Zanderallen followed by a thumbs up. To the paladin he holds out his hand indicating he should stay where he is.

Still ready to protect the unarmored fellow servant of Domi, he waits for Agrippa's lead.

Pesmer Zerase (Ryan W.) HP: 14/14 AC:12/12/10  d20+2=18 ;
Saturday January 30th, 2016 10:04:11 PM

Pesmer peeks in to see what Micah and Agrippa at pointing at, kind of curious now as to why they haven't attacked yet. Unable to see very clearly in the dark, Pesmer wishes he had darkness seeing eyes like Agrippa had. He could, I believe, see the hostage somewhat (Perception check 18 vs stealth of Zanderallen of 16) as the human retrieved his gear, noticing the crest of Domi on him.

The half elf wizard, tall and skinny in length, combs his fingers quietly through his bright blonde shoulder length hair as stops looking into the building, concentrating on the spells he had memorized as he prepared for combat.

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 18/18 AC: 13/12/10 CMB: +4  d20+7=13 ;
Monday February 1st, 2016 1:46:06 AM

Seeing the hostage free and Agrippa closing on the sleeping guard Stohp turns her attention to the rest of the warehouse. It may be to dark to see, but she tries her best to divine any other threats and be prepared for a sudden attack. (Perception 13).

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 15/15 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13
Monday February 1st, 2016 4:56:49 AM

(ooc: My last post said, "...if his race isn't human... she will whisper, 'A hostage'," but it appears it's a bit late to go back on the assumption now. She will presume the human to not be Eleazar.)

Agrippa sees the human break its bonds and walk over to a nearby barrel. She'll remove her finger from in front of her mouth (making a note to herself that this human might not heed the advice of half-orcs) and put it over her silver dagger (which she will draw during her double-move). Entering the room in stealth (20), she will move to [Either AC 45 (or less), or Z 46 (or less), whichever is behind a barrel and closer to Zanderallen]. She keeps an eye on the rat, expecting the commotion to wake it this time.

Into the Warehouse (DM Cayzle) Round 4  d20+8=27 (sleeper does not awaken);
Monday February 1st, 2016 10:06:04 AM

The Captive frees himself from his ropes and sneaks over to a nearby barrel. His stealth check is 16, so the sleeping enemy guard needs a 16 +10 +2 = 28 to wake ... it does NOT wake (rolled a 27), but it almost does!

Micah, peering in, recognizes the paladin of Domi They have not met, but the fellow is familiar. "Zandallan"? Something like that is his name. Micah communicates this with a thumb's up.

Pesmer peeks in and sees what is going on. Still, he wonders when the sneaky part will end and the casty part will begin.

Stohp peers in too, notes the sleeping creature deeper in the warehouse, but sees no other threat.

Agrippa stealthily enters the warehouse. With her check of 20, the enemy would need a 31+ to hear her and wake, and that's not possible. So she sneaks confidently over to the freed captive and his barrel.

[OOC to Agrippa: Highlight to display spoiler: {You see doors in the southern wall at X48 and AE48.} ]

[OOC to Zanderallen: Highlight to display spoiler: {You can pick up an item with a move action and don it with another. So on average you can equip 1 item per round, starting this round.} ]

And The Map. NOTE: Current lighting is shown by color on the map. With no light source. Barrels shown.

Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 AC: 11 T: 11 FF: 10
Monday February 1st, 2016 1:48:52 PM

Zanderallen pauses at the barrel, thinking to himself, "Did that rat just shift in it's sleep?" Seeing someone move into the warehouse, even though he's having trouble seeing them after they move inside, he whispers, "Druid's rat", pointing to the rat sleeping nearby. As he whispers he equips himself with his longsword from the barrel.

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 15/15 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13  d20+10=25 ; 2d6+1=7 ;

Agrippa wished she brought her tools with her, as she sees a few doors, but she doesn't attempt to leave this up to chance anymore. She'll sneak up next to the dire-rat, and clunk it over the head with the sap (not sure if this is an automatic crit, kind of like coup-de-grace, or not). [Attack: 1d20 (15) + 4 + 2(invisible) + 4(prone) = 25; Nonlethal Damage: 7]

The blow probably wasn't enough to knock it out completely, but she might get another chance to attack it before it even gets its bearings.

Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 17/10/17  d20+3=18 ;
Monday February 1st, 2016 10:07:41 PM

He readies himself to charge in when he believes it is time for everyone to make their move. (Ignore the 18 as my computer messed up and put in 2 d20 rolls. Perception 6 for incoming danger.)

Zanderallen takes a moment to inwardly reflect on how he got here as Agrippa advances, "Maybe it would be nice to have others to work with. Courage doesn't mean doing it all yourself, sometimes it takes the most courage to ask for help. Doing it all yourself can get you tied up in a dark warehouse."

Into the Warehouse (DM Cayzle) Round 5-6
Wednesday February 3rd, 2016 12:27:54 AM

Agrippa sneaks up next to the dire rat. I need a stealth check please. That's one round.

If the rat does not wake, Agrippa can make her coup de grace attack. That hits automatically as a critical hit. That means you roll damage twice. Agrippa has already rolled 1d6+1 for damage plus 1d6 sneak attack damage. I need another 1d6+1 damage please.

Then the rat has to make a save vs the total damage dealt as the fort DC. If it fails, it is knocked out. If it saves, it still takes that damage and is prone.

The rest of the groups watches quietly.

OOC: As soon as I have those rolls, I'll post again.

Stohp begins to examine the woodwork of the door. Shoddy stuff really, it looks like it hasn't been cared for in ages, all dirty and splintered. Then again it is a warehouse, not a business, so no one probably cares what it looks like.

(This would be 2 rounds of actions, if it can be done during/before Agrippa's sneak attack)

As Agrippa sneaks further in to the warehouse to deal with the sleeping sentry, Martisan slips past the others in the doorway to stand before the large door (Double move action to reach AC42; Stealth 21). She ignores the unexpected, former captive for now as he gathers his gear, seeing Micah's silent voucher for the other holy man.

Martisan studies the large door, knowing that the Minotaurs' help could be needed any moment if things suddenly go South (Perception 23 {forgot Performance}; full-round action to find the lock & unlock the large door, leaving it closed & unlatched).

(Welcome Zachary! I apologize for my absence, everyone. Ugly red marks.)

Into the Warehouse (DM Cayzle) Round 7  d20+7=26 (Agrippa's stealth); d20+5=24 (rat save); d100=41 (miss chance for rat, nope); d20+6=21 (bites at Agrippa); d4+3=4 (bite damage);
Thursday February 4th, 2016 7:59:42 AM

OOC: Your DM is rolling Agrippa's Stealth check for her. 1d20+7 ... 26. So that's not a problem!

Agrippa sneaks up to the dire rat without waking it. She coup-de-graces it with her sap, inflicting 3d6+2 = 11 damage. The rat must make a Fort Save vs DC10+damage dealt or die (in this case, with a sap, fall unconscious).

[OOC: There is no attack roll needed for a Coup De Grace, so the dim lighting and 20% miss chance is moot. Plus Agrippa has darkvision, so double moot.]

That's a DC21. The rat has a fort save of 1d20+5, and rolls a 24! It is not knocked out by the blow! It has taken 11 nonlethal damage, however, of its max 24 hp. Not enough to render it unconscious either.

Meanwhile, Martisan has opened the large door so that the taurs can enter freely. More light enters the warehouse. Everyone can see the rat and the doors to the south.

NOW the dire rat acts! As a free action, it starts squealing and squeaking VERY LOUDLY!

As a move action, it springs up from prone, which provokes an attack of opportunity. Agrippa gets a free shot at it. Its AC is 19. No miss chance with darkvision.

As a standard action, it attacks Agrippa. It rolls a 41 on its miss chance, so OK. It bites AC21, a hit, for 4 damage.

But more dangerous, maybe, than the bite is the loud alarm it is raising.

And The Map! Somehow I forgot to add the blue of the lake water on the map before. Fixed now. GOSH DARN IT. My Web hosting service is down. I'll attach the map to the daily email. SORRY.

[OOC: You'll see my annotations on the die rolls above. That's for your benefit, so you see how combat works. In future, I may not do that, and few-to-no other Wold DMs do, just because of the extra time it takes.]

(Thank you DM Cayzle for taking the time to show us the annotations on the die rolls. I look forward to seeing what you throw at us. ^.^ )

Hearing the loud screeches of the rat as Agrippa smacks at it, Pesmer moves into the building and slips up behind a crate (Or barrel?) at Y43. Seeing Agrippa attacking what he assumes is that rat, which is somewhat blurred by the darkness, Pesmer readies a magic missle against another other rats or ratfolk that bust into the room that look aggressive. (Is actually using the readied action combat move to cast magic missile on any nasties that suddenly spring into the room)

Stohp rushes forward to try to grab and silence the rat (grapple check 6). Unfortunately she misses the small shape in the dim light. "Someone shut it up!" she yells, in her urgency she making more noise then the rat.

Zanderallen moves around Agrippa to the side of the rat (square AC48). Wielding his longsword in both hands he swings hoping to silence the rat for good. Still sore from being bound all night his attack swings wide. (Attack role 7 with Bless) "Watch out everyone, that rat has been trained to pull your feet out from under you.", Zanderallen cautions.

Martisan spins on her heel at the sound of the injured rat's squealing, faint smile playing at her lips as the others spring into action. Whip still in hand, she moves further into the room, following Zanderallen and stopping just behind Agrippa (AC46). Making a sharp clicking sound with her tongue, Martisan points to the Southwest-most door, indicating someone should cover that entrance. She crouches down behind the larger Half-Orc and unfurls the length of corded leather, intently watching the Southeastern door.

(Move action stop behind Agrippa at AC46; standard action readied trip attempt (whip, 15ft) on the first enemy that comes through the Southeastern door. Stealth 27 trying to use Agrippa as cover to hide from any enemies that enter.)

Effects: (Martisan's encouragement; +1 Perception; +1 Disable Device; +1 Reflex Saves vs Traps; +1 AC vs Traps; +1 Flat-Footed AC for hour)
(Micah's Bless; +1 hit, +1 save v. fear)

Hearing its loud screech threw Agrippa off as it attempted to right itself. Her secondary attack (of opportunity: (I forgot to add +2 from succesful stealth) 17 miss) was deflected by it's leg as it twisted and stood. With her experience fighting rats, one would think she would be used to the bites by now, but this bite was quite sobering.

Holding in her own screams, she sees Stohp attempt to grab the thing, shouting to keep it quiet. She noticed that it is fighting blindly in the dark for now. She will attempt another whack at the beast to silence it (1d20 [8] +4 +2 (invis.) +1 (spells) = 15, miss), to no avail. She will then move to the Southeastern door without fear of the rat taking a free bite at it, and attempt to hide behind what might soon be an open door to get an attack out of whomever might be coming out (Stealth = 20).

(ooc: that is the rat's Flat-Footed AC, right?)

(OOC: Micah, you cast bless in your last post already. Not sure if there's a reason for the repeat, just FYI if you wanna do something else. Considering Agrippa moved, Martisan will still try to hide where she is (AC46), behind Stohp if possible, depending on the Minotaur's position around the rat. Using another creature (at least one size category larger) as cover for stealth incurs a -10 penalty, so Martisan's stealth check is 17 vs any incoming enemies, if she can hide behind Stohp. Otherwise just the move & readied trip actions if the angles don't work for hiding. Hoping to eke out that +2 concealment bonus myself. I might be misunderstanding your situation, Agrippa, but just to note, you're no longer hidden after attacking, & partial concealment (low light here), while adding to your defense, doesn't confer the +2 attack bonus, that's just with total concealment.)

LAST ROUND: Agrippa's AoO as the rat rises to its feet: I said its AC was 19 but I forgot you get a +4 because it is prone -- so you need to hit AC 15 instead of 19! Agrippa's AoO of 17 vs AC15 is a hit -- the Dm rolls damage of d6+1=7

Pesmer readies a spell!

Stohp rushes in and makes a grab at the dire rat -- but it slips away!

Micah casts bless and walks up!

Zanderallen moves up and misses!

Martisan walks up to ready a whip attack!

Agrippa tumbles to flank -- the DC is the rat's cmd which is 17 so she fails -- and provokes a AoO by moving; the rat is not bothered by the dark -- it bites at Agrippa -- hits her for 5 hp of hurt! And Agrippa ends her move behid a barrel!

Norr moves into the warehouse!

THE RAT bites at Zanderallen with a miss chance of 20% rolls a 84 no prob! It hits AC16; Zanderallen is AC11 so it hits for 4 hp!

Then the rat backs away 5 ft!

Martisan winces as Agrippa and Zanderallen are bitten by the rat. Seeing an opening as Agrippa takes cover behind a nearby barrel, Martisan drops her whip at her feet and shrugs the shortbow off her back, drawing and nocking an arrow in one smooth motion. She quickly lets the arrow fly before any other companions interpose themselves between her and the target (14 to-hit). Unfortunately, Martisan's eagerness gets the better of her and the shot goes wide.

(Move action draw bow; standard action attack. The map has 5 ft between the rat and everyone nearby, so I thought it a good chance to try for damage without shooting into melee.)

Agrippa will suggest, "Should we block the door with a barrel for now? 'Ere, I'll head to that side then." Nursing her bleeding calf (again), she moves (to Y45), drawing her regular dagger in the process. She will throw her regular dagger at the rat (1d20 [19] +4, -2(range), +1(bless) = Hit (failed crit confirmation); dealing 2 damage), and end her turn crouched, in case the door in front of her opens. The dagger clips the rat, but enough for it to take notice.

[OOC: The rat is in the dim light -- so there is a 20% miss chance when attacking it -- that means a miss on a d100 roll of 1-20!}

Pesmer continues to keep his spell ready!

Micah walks to the southwest door and cats light on his hammer. With this light and the daylight coming in from the doors, there is no more miss chance anywhere.

Martisan sees a clever chance to shoot before melee is rejoined, but her shot goes wide.

Zanderallen steps up, swings, and crits! He inflicts 14 damage to the dire rat. It has now lost 14 of its 24 hp, and it has taken 18 nonlethal damage, well over its current total. It falls unconscious.

The battle, for the moment, is over. The piercing squeal has been ended.

Stohp moves to the eastern door.

Agrippa heads to the center of the room and throws a dagger at the downed rat, just to make sure it stays down.

Keen senses honed through much discipline, sharpened now as they were, Martisan immediately picked up on the casting behind the door. Need to see if Pesmer will teach me some of the words from his books, so I can recognize the sounds. She idly ponders, imagining what types of magic each word signifies. With a slight bend to her knees, she snatches her whip from the ground, nodding to cover her smug smile as the gallant longlegs charge fiercely into the jaws of the enemy, weapons bloodied and shining with divine light.

"See if Micah can spare a moment to tend to your injuries, take care of yourself, stay in the fight. Well done. Know this spell?" She whispers to Agrippa and Pesmer as she darts past Stohp's hooves through the opened doorway, shortbow momentarily useless in one hand, whip ready in the other.

He sees a human and a ratman in the well-lit room. The ratman is standing protectively in front of the human, and the human is casting!

Zanderallen cures himself with a touch, then moves through the door following Micah.

Stohp opens the other door and peers in. She sees that it is dark in there, but maybe there are doors and stairs going up in the room?.

Agrippa draws a blade, slips into a room, and dashes behind a chair in the corner.

Norr moves through the warehouse.

Martisan picks up her whip and moves [OOC: Tell me where you want to go by map coordinate, please.]

Pesmer moves deeper into the warehouse, but still behind his comrades.

This room seems to be a sort of sitting room. There is a sofa and a comfy chair.

ENEMY ACTIONS

The caster in the back is Eleazar. He looks mostly human, maybe slightly ratty. He finishes his spell, and two dire rats appear on either side of Rooger. Eleazar immediately begins to cast another spell.

The ratman -- It is Rooger, of whom you were warned -- is wearing studded leather, and wields a rapier and a heavy wood shield. He strikes out at Micah with a poke and a bite ... The rapier pokes through but the bite does not. Micah takes 5 hp damage.

Dire Rat 1 bites at Micah, missing.

Dire Rat 2 bites at Zanderallen, hitting for 2 damage and forcing Z to make a Fort save vs disease at DC11.

Pesmer enters the room and ends his movement in square Z49, which should be behind Zanderallen and to the right. (Spellcraft check of 24)

Deciding he didn't wish to risk Eleazar getting off his spell, Pesmer's hands light up as he chants his own magicks, a brilliant display of color now springing forth from his hands. The vivid cone of clashing colors sprays out, missing Zanderallen as the mist slams against several of the enemies, including Eleazar.

(Using the 15 foot cone from here: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/gamemastering/combat/space-reach-threatened-area-templates, I am hitting the squares Z50, Z51,Z52, Y51, Y52, AA51 and AA52. This should not hit Zanderallen and will hit R, E and D2 enemies.

Will save 15 to resist the effects of Color Spray. If they fail and if they have 2HD or less, they are unconscious, blind and stunned for 2d4 rounds, then blinded and stunned for 1d4 rounds then stunned for 1 round.

Seeing the other door thrown open and hearing Agrippa's shout, followed quickly by the sounds of battle, Martisan rushes into the room. Taking stock of the situation, she steps to the side of the door (AB51), and lashes out at Eleazar with her whip, aiming to trip the man and throw off his spell. Luck is on her side as the end of her whip wraps itself neatly around Eleazar's ankle, pulling the limb sharply as Martisan tugs the whip back. (trip attack with whip; natural 20 for 24 vs CMD)

Agrippa opens the door, calls out, and then whips a dagger at Eleazar. The blade thunks into his shield.

Zanderallen slashes out, misses, and does detect evil in Eleazar.

Pesmer enters the room and then casts his Color Spray!

One rat is knocked aglee (taken off map). Rooger shakes off the effect. Eleazar is stunned for four rounds, and blind for the first three of those!

Micah swings at the remaining dire rat and misses.

Stohp walks through the other, dark, room, and looks through the door that Agrippa opened.

The small Martisan dashes in between Stohp's legs, past Agrippa, and uses her whip to trip the blind, stunned, and, now, prone Eleazar!

Norr remains vigilant in the large outer main room.

No fool he, Rooger steps forward and attacks Pesmer with rapier and bite. You think you're so smart! he shouts at Pesmer. "We wanted him alive!" she yells at the former prisoner, knowing that he might have good reason to want the ratman dead but angry just the same. Tearing off part of her tunic she tries her best to stabilize the dying ratman (heal 16).

If Rooger is apparently deadStohp sees the killing blow land on the ratman and for a few moments can only stand and stare. Then, silently, she leans against the wall next to the door and slides to the floor, head in her hands. Her one thought is "What will I tell Jasper?"

Pesmer lets out a rather loud yell as Rooger sinks his fangs into his flesh, though thankfully Micah's holy light heals up his new wound almost completely. (Took 8 damage but was healed for 6). Hopefully he wasn't striken with the disease from the ratman's teeth, thinking he would need someone to look at his wound after the fight. (Rolled an exact 15 vs the fortitude 15 save. Hehe.. Such a close dodge of death and disease.)

Growling back at Rooger as he mocked Pesmer's intelligence, he watches as one friend of his after another strikes at the ratman. "Smart enough to choose better friends then you did, Rooger!"

Pesmer will now down one of the following:

A) If Rooger is down and out from all the attacks from Pesmer's friends, he would turn to the others and speak. "We must hurry and tie Eleazar up. His stunned state won't last forever."

B)If Rooger is still standing after the onslaught of attacks from his friends, Pesmer would make sure he was flanking Rooger opposite Agrippa as he swings his silver staff against the foe, hitting an AC of 22 and doing 7 points of silver bludgeoning damage against Rooger.

Pesmer would choose A over B as long as Rooger doesn't seem to be fighting back or is unconscious. If Rooger is still fighting, he will do B.

Into the Warehouse (DM Cayzle) Round 12  d20+1=10 ;
Friday February 12th, 2016 1:47:01 PM

[OOC regarding Eleazar: He is stunned, blind, and prone, but not helpless. You cannot just tie him up unless you first grapple him and then pin him. Granted, he has -8 on his melee AC and has lost his dex bonus. But he is not helpless!]

Realizing that the enemy is as yet unwounded, and that therefore the act cannot aid them, Micah channels positive energy, healing his wounded friends.

Agrippa moves to flank and would have hit hard, but all 9 hp damage she would have inflicted is nullified by Rooger's DR. The weapon seems almost to pass through, with no damage done!

Martisan tries to trip Rooger, but his CMD is 18, and she rolled a 12. She did not fail by 10, so she is not pulled off her feet either.

Zanderallen correctly deduces that Rooger is evil, and smites him, but good! By the DM's count, Z is +2 BAB +2 Str +3 Chr +1 MW sword +1 Bless and -1 Power Attack = +8 to a raw roll of 14 is 22. The ratman's AC is exactly 22. The hit lands true with surgical precision! And cuts right through his DR!

Rooger suffers 15 damage! He's still up.

Stohp rushes in and grapples Rooger! Doing so provokes an AoO ... but since she is 10 ft away when she provokes the AoO, Rooger cannot reach her in order to take advantage of the AoO. Her grapple check of 22 beats his CMD18, so he is grappled.

Norr continues to stand guard in the outer room.

Pesmer steps up and whacks Rooger with the silver end of his staff, which thunks the rat-guy soundly and puts him either at 1 hp or 0 hp -- the DM is not sure why Pesmer gets +2 damage instead of +1.

At this, the game is over for Rooger, and he is smart enough to know it. "I give up! I give up!", he shouts, going limp in Stohp's wrestling embrace and dropping his sword.

The dire rat bites at Micah again for the third time and misses. Then it poofs away to the realm from which it was summoned.

No map for this round needed. The rat is gone, the rat-man is captured, and the rat-mage is stunned, blind, and prone.

Martisan locks the iron cuffs, and slips the key into a button-clasped pouch on her belt (Average Lock DC 25; Manacles DC 30 Escape Artist. DC 26 Strength).

"The real trouble now is what to do with this one.." She says, turning to Stohp and Rooger in her arms. "Might be we could put him and the other one to work? Clean this place up; scout out other areas; sniff out some information when we need it. Pay an honest wage, help keep them out of trouble?" The halfling looks from Stohp to the others as she gathers up her weapons.

Coughing a little as Pesmer checks the wound Rooger gave him, stepping back now as he leans up against the nearby wall. "Some bite you have there, Rooger... A little higher and ol' Pesmer would be leaving this place in a box."

Giving a nod to Zanderallen, he watches the male heal Agrippa's wound with a touch. "Nice to meet you, Zanderallen. The name is Pesmer." Looking back towards Martisan as she speaks of cleaning up the place and putting them to work, his dark eyes peer curiously over Rooger and Eleazar. She's not one to disagree with a room full of powerful and authoritative humans (and halfling), so the matter is decided for her.

She'll assist in bringing the rat men to the authorities. During her travel, she hopes Eleazar can answer a few questions along the way before they meet the guards. If not, she'll try and strike conversation with Norr and Stohp. Removing her head from her hood, she reminisces, "Remember when we spoke in the bar abou' the risks involved with 'venturin?" "These two made their choices, with plenty opportunity from when we first picked up their trail until now to come clean and do right by the community - not to mention all the time even before their actions raised enough concern to put us after them."

Martisan shakes her head, tapping one of Rooger's furry feet with the heel of her whip as she coils it at her hip. "Jaspar even gave this one up for lost when you asked him to persuade his kin to leave Eleazar. If the miscreant's better-mannered cousin didn't didn't think he could win Rooger over before we brought the law to their home, I have no interest in whatever promises they might make now that punishment is their only alternative. Rooger speaks up at last. "Look," he pleads, "I was just a hired guard. I didn't hurt nobody. Please let me go, and you won't see me again."

Eleazar sputters and speaks with a strange accent, after the spell has worn off. You see that he has rat-like features. It looks like rat-teeth deform his speech a bit. "You rat-haters!" he sputters. "I'll show you! You'll regret this!"

Would it be fair if their attackers or those who directed their attackers were not held accountable?" asks Micah rhetorically. More directly he asks, "Should we muzzle Eleazar? He is a caster. And what about looking around to see if he left any notes about his plans?"

He turns to Rooger and calmly guides him away from Eleazar into the main warehouse and says "Rooger, your being let go is for the authorities to decide, not us. I do have a piece of advice for you. Your boss seems bent on revenge. Perhaps, if you helped us and the authorities by telling what you know of his activities and what he might do in revenge, the court might take that into consideration."

"Rat-haters? While not my favorite animal I have nothing against rats, until they start swarming, organizing, and attacking innocent townspeople. And I would have a problem with any creature doing that." , Zanderallen exclaims in response to Eleazar, adding under his breath, "The nerve of evil, claiming racism as soon as someone calls them out on their misdeeds."

Zanderallen will retrieve and equip all his gear from the barrel. After gathering that all up he takes a look around the warehouse looking for mostly for any evidence, documents or the like, that he thinks would be useful to the court. He also checks out everyone's bite marks for signs of infection or disease. (perception 3, Zanderallen thinks this might be Eleazar's warehouse but isn't sure...) (Heal 13)

Pesmer couldn't help but chuckle at the conversation, him watching his new friends as they all try and get a feel for one another's priorities and personalities. He took note of who wanted to show leniency Rooger and who didn't, finding it all very interesting. Turning his attention to Micah and Eleazar as Micah asks his question, Pesmer shakes his head. "Eleazar should be fine just tied up. Usually you need hands to cast spells. Plus the moment he tries anything that give him a light smack to the head. Should keep any spells from going off."

Deciding to help with the searching of Eleazar's place, Pesmer looks about from room to room as he looks for any and all things that could help in this investigation against Eleazar and friends. ( Perception check 19 to check the place out)

(Probably doesn't matter but I've lost track of how each of them is restrained. Did someone manacle Rooger, or should I make a check to tie him up so Stohp doesn't have to keep grappling him?)

He moves far enough to see where they go, lighting the way with his illuminating hammer, but will not go up them until others have finished their searching.

Zanderallen hopes that the others are having luck finding anything. But he feels much more comfortable now that he is back in his chain mail. Having pushed and trained to wear it without fatigue since joining the martial branch of the church of Domi he feels almost naked without armor on. And there is just something reassuring about the chink of well made chain mail when moving around.

Zanderallen moves to support Micah in exploring up the stairs when he finishes tending to the wounded.

Wednesday February 17th, 2016 10:31:50 PM

Searching the warehouse Pesner and Agrippa (and Micah after) find --

-- a large upper story area is full of rats in cages!

-- there are also living quarters there too!

-- there is a little area full of writings on rats!

-- there is a reserve of coin in a tiny chest

-- there is gear of the sort interesting to adventurers (weapons and such)

Zanderallen finds no sign of disease!

Norr finds a secret door that leads to a narrow hall and then to stairs down and then to a closed portcullis!

Stohp watches the roped Rooger and the secured and gagged Eleazar!

Rooger is willing to cooperate and says he knows little -- he was just a hired sword!

Peering over the lot of coin in the tiny chest as well as the assortment of gear interesting for the adventuring time, Pesmer casts detect magic to see if any of the objects, including the tiny chest itself, is magical or not.

Pulling out his notebook, Pesmer categorizes each of the items as well as the gold, writing out every detail he could to make sure everything was marked within his books. Turning to those who were searching as well, Pesmer remarks, "There is some nice stuff in here.. I believe Happy said we could keep whatever objects we found, yes?"

(Let me know if Pesmer needs to do spellcraft checks for any magical loot and how many he needs to do.)

Following the others, Martisan briefly reads through some of Eleazar's writings before joining Pesmer as he details the warehouse's contents. Jotting down quick a list of quality, type, and number for the assorted adventuring gear, Martisan comes to attention when Pesmer mentions the findings being theirs. "Apparently a bountiful proposition, that." She says with a wink to the wizard.

Heading back down the stairs, Martisan begins a spell as soon as the Stohp comes within sight. She sends the Minotaur a quiet message before coming within earshot of the captives. "Pesmer mentioned Happy granting us the spoils of this adventure. I have some things I want to check out regarding that. Maybe pay your buddy Jasper a visit, if you'd like to help me track him down."

Reaching the watchful Minotaur and her wards, Martisan addresses Eleazar, her tone conversational. "Do you own this warehouse? I found your research upstairs - what were you planning here?"

Peering over the cages of rats and notes, Agrippa shakes her head at the opportunities for mischief that Eleazar was apparently planning. As the coin and gear gets documented by the eager scribes, Agrippa will take a look at the narrow hall leading to the closed portcullis. She'll attempt to find if there really isn't a way to open it from within (Perception 19, 20 if traps).

"It's a nice warehouse," Agrippa says out loud.

According to Pesmer there is around 1500 gp in divers coin in the chest -- and the following things detect with a glow:

Rapier
Clip in Eleazar's hair
Ring on Eleazar's finger

Other vslued stuff

non glowing good wood shield x2
rat books
non glowing good sap
personal stuff -- jewelry (rattish) - clothes - knives - candlesticks - etc

Martisan says the rat books and writings are quite detailed! [OOC: can give a +2 on Kowledge checks vs any rat topic with 1 hour study]

On the other hand - Eleazar is not talking or answering questions! And not on the topic of who owns the warehouse either!

Agrippa likes the place - just needs fresh air to get rid of the rat scent! She finds windows that open on the upper floor!

And under she finds the wheel that turns to open the portcullis - which opens to where Jasper had greeted you!

Micah says a prayer and stays alert!

Turning to Zanderallen as the new found friend heals him, he smiles and gives a polite bow. "Thank you kindly, Zanderallen. Appreciate you tending to my wounds."

Turning his attention back to the rapier, Eleazar's clip and his ring, he begins to decipher the magical properties of said items to relay the information to the party. He made sure to have Micah or Norr or someone strong keep Eleazar still as he removed the clip and ring. (Without the manacles & lock Martisan is 3lbs below max weight for light load, so she won't be carrying much away herself. Actually, just realized small creatures have 3/4 the weight limits listed in the chart, so Martisan has technically been encumbered with a medium load this whole time. Gonna update some items' location on her sheet to the Fatted Calf. My bad.)

"If I've got things right, Eleazar and his cohort's crimes will be judged by the City - whichever officials preside over The Fence, but the apprehension of the miscreant was commissioned by Happy, on behalf of local business owners, who said himself we have first claim to these mispurposed if not ill-gotten goods.." She pauses and taps a finger to the side of her nose, again wishing she were as well-versed in the myriad nature of arcane magic as the astute scholar.

"I think it very prudent for us to take a careful look at the most powerful items found. I myself would gladly play a game of chance for their use, depending on the nature of the magic." As she says this, Martisan pulls a silver coin from her pouch, which she begins flipping with a wink to Agrippa.

"Also, I'm very curious how far Happy's incentive extends. I'd like to see about repurposing this warehouse for ourselves. I'll gladly do the legal legwork with the city - it doesn't hurt that we just detained a wanted man and acquired a few valuable items to give us a bargaining chip or two - and I can think of at least one good-natured rat who might appreciate the honest work involved." She looks around to the others, the excited gleam in her eyes tempered by patient determination. It's clear she's going to try this one way or another.

(What's the ruling on magic items & size? Typically I've played that magic items re-size for the creature using it, but some DMs have held that doesn't work for magic weapons & other specific items.)

Micah originally disapproves of Zanderallen's profligate use of healing power when their allies wounds would readily resolves themselves with a bit of rest. After thinking a bit more, however, he realizes that had he just been rescued from being bound in a warehouse, he also would likely be inclined to be highly generous with Domi's power. Perhaps using such power in this situation would in fact be an expression of gratitude to their god as well. Micah's face grows distant as he ponders this.

Then seeing that Pesmer is taking a look at some items recovered from Eleazar. He joins him. To Pesmer he says, "I am not much of a scholar in these areas but perhaps I might be able to discern something, too."

Better they get put to the best possible use among us. As for claiming the warehouse there is one major problem even if all the legal end works out. What would be done with all the rats upstairs? There are enough there to overrun a district. While there is little pleasure in acting as exterminator, drowning them in the nearby water might be the quickest means to end the possibility of an infestation. Whatever the means they need to be dealt with.", Zanderallen says with a contemplative look on his face. Trying to deduce the reason behind wanting an old dirty warehouse in the docks. She says with a laugh and wink to Zanderallen, "Not that I've any lust for riches myself, but as you said I'm sure we can find a better use for the items than sitting on some city councilor's mantle or hanging on a merchant's rack."

She winks at the armored man again, "Name's Martisan, most recent addition to this intrepid band. You raise a good concern about the rats." She turns to regard the kind-hearted Minotaur, tone softening just a bit "If we were to let that swarm loose now, it would trouble the folks here for months if not years. Who knows, Eleazar may have already done some tricky magiks on the rodents that would turn the seed he's keeping upstairs into particularly nasty infestation should it be allowed to take root. That said, perhaps we can talk to that tough Turtlemaster about shipping the rats out of the city."

Zanderallen and Norr please accompany me to make certain they don't escape and so you can give your eyewitness account Zander.

Unless someone else has a better idea then I suggest we let Martisan pursue her idea to get rid of the rats.

Pesmer, Micah, if you could determine the use of these magic items it would be quite helpful. I suggest taking them and the other valuables back to the Fatted Calf; this isn't the most secure location. (You should be able to take 20 to identify the magic items there.)

I will gladly give my account to the authorities. If exterminating the rats if off the table getting them out of the city is the best thing to be done. They are far from innocent my kind-hearted friend. Ever seen the damage they can do to a pantry or food supply? Or the death they can cause with the diseases they carry in the lower levels? Wear it and it shall give you more protection against enemy blows. Its a powerful ring indeed. I can take the other two items to the library and look up their properties if that is alright with everyone. Or maybe Happy has a friend who could help us as well. Although.."

He ponders for a moment on what he needs to do next, mostly disregarding Stohp as she gives out orders. "Hmmm... Brother Micah, dear friend, I need to make a stop before returning to the inn. If no one objects, I will take the two items of unknown property to go be studied. The ring grants powerful protect so whoever needs it should throw up their voice now."

I stand strong by this notion. I would rather they be shipped off or moved to a more healthier location if possible."

When the group is leaving, Pesmer will wander up to Martisan and speak lightly to the halfling. "A favor, Ms. Martisan.. I am in search of The Star Mages guild. I haven't been able to locate the place as of yet. Could you point me in the right direction?"

(I should be in bed. Knowledge Local 24 regarding property ownership in The Float. I might have cried if nobody got at least 15).

Martisan smiles as Stohp takes charge of the situation. Good delegation there, she nods her agreement.

"I don't see any reason to be shy if I'm going to be seen, and if I'm not seen then I'm certainly not going to be seen as being shy." She shrugs "But you're the bold one, Ser. I saw you put your hands on the lass so you could 'heal her!'" Laughing lightly, Martisan runs her fingers along the hem of the paladin's heavy chain shirt, creating a surprisingly melodic and resonant sound, like a collection of tuned chimes sounding briefly inside a small theatre. (Prestidigitation). "But I'd maybe wait until she's not trying to cut you out of the spoils." Martisan says in a loud whisper before quickly skipping a short distance away.

As her gaze passes over the two captives, she quickly sobers up. "I would greatly appreciate it if you could make sure those metal cuffs make their way back to me. They weren't cheap, and they're much easier for me to manage than a heavy pile of rope." She gives the key to the manacles to Stohp. "I'm glad you're going with to turn them in - the most important thing now, likely out of the whole ordeal, is making sure the truth is heard and these two are given a fair hearing before facing whatever justice is necessary."

The Halfling scratches her head at Pesmer's question, "Can't say I'm familiar with it myself. I've never had any kind of formal book-learning on magic, so I never thought to seek such a place out." She gives Pesmer an appraising glance, "But after today I see maybe mages and their old guilds might not always be so stuffy. Tell you what, I'll ask around about the Star Mages Guild, let you know what I find out, and then maybe we can talk about you teaching me some of the magic words from your books."

Pausing, Martisan points to Eleazar's collected notes. "While you're consulting with the scholarly types to identify those items, you should also see if you can locate someone that might be interested in buying this library of rat knowledge, so long as no one here is looking to continue Eleazar's research."

"I'm off to see a lady about a turtle and some rats, if anyone cares to join me."

As everyone heads separate ways, Martisan makes her way to the docks to find the Turtlemaster (or assistant), where she explains the situation with the rats, and asks if it would be possible to ship the caged animals off The Float. She also asks around about the Star Mages Guild on her way to the docks and while she is there. Smirking a little, Pesmer nods as he gathers up the book (or books) of rat information, figuring he might be able to find someone who is interested in such reading material. "Right. I have the books and the three items. I will get them properly looked at and will bring them to the celebrations tonight. We can divide up everything then, eh?"

Turning to Martisan as he grins a little, his eyes traveling from his own spell book to the halfling. "Sure sure, I can teach you few magic words. I cannot promise you have the energies to cast such things, but I don't mind sharing knowledge."

Turning to Micah, Pesmer nods as he welcomes his holy friends company. "Of course, Brother Micah, would love it if you joined me. I am also very interested in what this clip is and how it changed Eleazar. We shall uncover a great many secrets before the night is over."

Journeying with Micah and whoever else wishes to join, Pesmer seeks out the Star Mages guild in hopes of joining up with them. (Knowledge Local 11 to ask around about where the building is.)
If Pesmer cannot search out the place by gathering info, he will return to Happy who he figures might have that information.

Agrippa's ears twist as she hears the words, "...teach you few magic words..." and decides to walk slightly behind Pesmer and Martisan. Upon hearing (and remembering) that Pesmer was looking for the Star Mage's guild, she finds herself not to be too useful (Knowledge Local: 11).

Remembering the moment Martisan cast the Message spell before the engagement, Agrippa will try practicing the movements and words while they walk. She'll stray off with the silver weapons when their path tangents from her own.

Micah (John) HP: 16/16 AC: 17/10/17  d20+1=7 ; d20+7=9 ;

Enjoying the stroll through town, Micah decides to assist the young wizard in his search for the illusive Star Mages guild built his limited knowledge outside his normal routes (Know Local 7) nor his inquiries around the area (Diplomacy to gather information 9) prove fruitful.

He tries to keep the inquisitive arcane scholar from spending too much time and urges him to return to the planned rendezvous in time.

Zanderallen (Zachary H) HP: 23/23 AC: 19 T: 11 FF: 18
Wednesday February 24th, 2016 11:30:02 PM

Zanderallen talks freely about himself when questioned. He relates how he heard of the trouble with rats in the area and took it upon himself to see how he could help. Through some asking and Domi's providence he stumbled upon Eleazar's warehouse earlier that night and thought he had found the source. He managed to talk his way in but as he asked more questions he barely had time to even reach for his blade before he was jumped. Tripped by Eleazar's dire rate companion he was overwhelmed, robbed of his gear, and tied up until they could quietly get rid of him.

He leads a fairly disciplined and simple life among the paladins of Domi, doing what he can where he can. When asked about his past he relates how during his early years on the streets and his adventures with his crew. How he then came to be an apprentice for a baker and the trouble he got in leading the other baker's apprentices and refusing to back down from any fight. And how he was then recruited to join the Holy Orders.

Upon reaching the authorities Zanderallen gives a full account of the misdoings of Eleazar and Rooger, explaining Rooger's role as possibly just a misguided hired blade but probably still a danger, and hands them over to be tried. He will also alert the guard to the presence of the caged rats in the warehouse and the groups efforts to remove them.

The group spends a little time getting to know Martisan and Zanderallen.

After that, it becomes clear that several jobs need doing -- and Stohp suggests a division of labor.

Agrippa recalls that only the Overlord or Nobles can own buildings and property in the Float. Everybody else leases.

Martisan adds that leases are usually for a term of 100 years. And are transferrable, with a simple procedure requiring only one year's leasage fee, two copies of the deed to the property, and three neutral witnesses (at least one of whom must have seen the property recently).

Martisan heads to the docks to visit the Turtlemistress, Belba Stubbletoe. She is a well-known figure here on the Fence level, and when Martisan introduces herself, and asks her help with the rodents, she is willing.

"Well, you are right that you cannot free them in the Float. And if you let them loose in the Crying Woods, the carnivorous plants will make short work of them. The Wood has a deep hatred for animal life."

"But I know several fishermen who would be glad to use them for bait. Heck, my own dolphin, Lucy, would find them a treat. For the quantity you mention, 50 gold sound fair to you?"

Stohp, Zanfer, and Norr bring the two prisoners to the nearest constabulary - the one at Gargul's Corner, between the Fish House and the Auction House. There are constables there who will take the prisoners. They are serious and make notes as they ask for what happened, and once you explain that you are licensed adventurers, they loosen up and relax. Tey tell you they can either handle it from here, no problem.

Pesmer and Micah work on the magic items, but so far with no luck. They do note that the rapier is about as magical as the ring, and the headband less so. Eleazar has nothing to say before he is taken away. Rooger continues to say he is just a hired guard and knows nothing about magic.

Pesmer can take the rat-books for an appraisal. He has heard that the Star Mages outpost here is located on the top level. That's more than Micah has heard!

Nodding a little and thanking the person who gave him the location of the Star Mages guild, or at least its general location of being on the top level, Pesmer turns to Micah and smiles. "Do you wish to venture to the top level now, just us, or do you wish to go celebrate with the others and then see how many of us wish to make the trip together? And while we are on the top level, we really should give the officials our group name.. We still haven't named ourselves as of yet."

If Micah wishes to go to the Guild now, Pesmer will nod and the two can try and find their way to the top level. If Micah wishes to return to the Inn so they can meet up with the others, he will do that instead.
