Rat dropped off at Madame LaRues, you notice that there seem to have been at least two other rats dropped off there before you,

Figuring that you have the time all be it only a short amount, you do need to eat. The dancing pig and the belly buster await.

Flimsipold "Hin Billy" Williewhim AC: 15/13/13 HP: 10/10 (C. Neagu)

Soon as the group makes it to the Belly Buster, Flimsipold bolts straight up to the counter and inquiries about the night's specialty. He turns around and begins scrutinizing the establishment to see if he can make out members of other parties.

OOC: I don't want to seem rude, or make you think I don't appreciate your work, Kent, but it's really tough for us to post anything constructive when we have nothing to work with. It doesn't help that everything we decide (like splitting up to cover ground faster) gets overlooked, and I do understand it's more difficult to take care of two groups, or when we are about to move away from a prepared script, but in the lack of communication we just get to awkward bumps in the road like today.

After Murphy "pierces" his heart with the imaginary sword Hazel drops his arms and head, feigning dead, just to snap back at attention at his "she likes you too" words.

"Really, how? Why? Who do you know? Do yo believe so?"

He goes the rest of the way floating a couple inches above the ground, smiling broadly and with a dream and a gleam in his eyes.

At the Belly Buster he sits next to Alouryn and asks her what is this "flower" business about...

OOC: I must say concur with Neagu. I didn't understand why we "dropped" the rat at Madame LaRue, nor if anything happened because of it. I posted this late because I was at a loss of what to do (and have been since yesterday, that's why I tried to add the RP element with Murphy).

Alouryn Buttercup Bumblebottom AC: 16/14/13 HP: 7/8 (Vaughn)

Alouryn has never been to the Belly Buster and is cautious to enter.
To Hazel: "It's dark right? No one can see us? I hope I don't get recognized in here, they probably won't even serve me. Maybe I should just go to the temple....I don't want anyone to think I'm a ... Pleaser" She whispers the last word quietly before the bustle of the other Halflings entering from behind forces her and Hazel through the door.
Alouryn quickly hides her whip and pulls her Devotee robes around herself trying to hide her face with the collar. She sits with the others and is glad Hazel is beside her. She hides her face when the table is being waited on and quietly refuses to order before mumbling under her breath "I'll have what he's having.". Nodding towards Hazel. Once the coast is clear she answers his question,
"Well it's a long story but Flower is the goddess I worship and the High Priestess (Sarabella Lovesong) lives right here in our Temple in Humble's Ford. She healed me when I was really sick as a child and told me all the stories about Flower and I've been faithful ever since. So now I'm a newly ordained Devotee of Flower and that's why I dance a lot and try to be pretty just like Flower.Oh, and Flower is the goddess of love so I'm always trying to help other Halflings find true love, but I've never found it myself, and it's really important to us, but I've kinda stopped looking for now, and yeah, so that's it, what was your question again?"
Alouryn speeds up as she talks getting quite flustered at the end. It's obvious this topic is something she gets very caught up in, but right now she is caught up in Hazel's attentive eyes.

"I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting the Flower Temple but maybe you can take me there after the hunt if we don't head there during our competition. I would dearly like to meet Priestess Lovesong." Eral also orders what Odo and Alouryn. "I might also be able to show you around my temple of Domi if we ever head that direction. We might not be a pretty as you but we do pride ourselves in providing protection to the weak and that is how I ended up a Devotee of Domi."

Odo gives the menu a quick glance over before ordering whatever the largest meal on it might be. He then turns his head to the bard, speaking in a hushed tone so that their server might not hear.

"It doesn't matter what their specialty is, Master Billy. No matter how good it is their best'll never be as good as the Pig's. It's the size what matters."

OOC: I somewhat agree with Catalin. Vaughn is right that we can be indecisive, but it's quite hard to actually be decisive when there are so many of us posting ideas once per day and we don't have much time to react to them, like Catalin says, causing some to be overlooked.

"Guys, should we be taking this long for dinner? I'm in favor of grabbing a couple pieces of fruit, and finishing this Hunt. Every moment we sit here is wasted. The other teams could all be flying by us right now, while we are stuffing our faces. I say we get back at it!"

The OOC discussion we are having today is why I hate the one post per day limit. It is really hard to role play and become cohesive on plans and the like if we can only fire off one post, and try to do everything in it, per day.

Zylo approaches waiter, waitress, or someone who looks like they can respond. "We need food quickly, to take with us, and we need to be out of here with the food in three minutes. Make it quick, make it good, put it in a few bags for us, and we'll come back later and spend more money. Bread, meat, cheese, fruit, and some mugs - five with cider, four with kvass, or whatever." He offers five gold. He turns to his companions. "You cover anything more than that."

If they respond quickly, he thanks them, grabs a chunk of cheese, and says, "Let's go."

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood HP 9/9 AC:15/13/13 (Kim McCoy)  d20+11=27 ;

Disturbed that the group is more interested in food than in finishing the quests of the day, when they are so close - and two groups already are ahead of them (and perhaps more, if some already have the staff, and are on their way to Madame LaRue's place), But Murphy mutters, "We are halflings. Of course we need food... I suppose."

Then after herding into the Belly Buster, listening to a few people ordering, and glancing around at who else may be there (perception 27), he hears Zylo makes an astounding request. He wants food, and fast? "Which is it? Food or fast? Can we really have both? If we fast, then no food. If we eat, then no fast," he quips.

But he supports the request. "Yes, yes, please, make haste." He adds 5 gold pieces on top of Zylo's, and that should buy a movable feast, indeed.

Once free of the Belly Buster, Murphy says, "Let's stay together, unless you won't. If you will... "Haste, haste to the Second Dinner Club," he recommends, then begins trotting north the few hundred yards to the towers of Humble's Ford's wizards. He makes do with a mouthful of bread and a swig of kvass.

If any wish to go elsewhere, he reminds those with whistles to use them if they find a staff, despite the lateness of the hour, that the others may hear and head immediately to the pavilion "Three fast toots, then two long toots is our signal."

(OOC I agree the one post per day thing can sometimes be an issue, though I believe I said at the outset that as long as we werent in combat and no one is trying to takeover that an additional post could be made for role play or decision making. I certainly haven't been trying to ignore post and I thought had posted the two dcecisions that one or two had suggested but saw little or no concensus from anyone on what the group was to do and I am sorry but I am not running nine different games here. As for why you took the the rat to Mdme laRues, because you were told to in one of the riddles that were posted. So once again you still have a decision to make; Flower Temple, Dinner Club Tower or Bumbleluck House.)

The group makes it to the Belly Buster They actually see acouple of other groups in the place. One of them looks extemely beaten up, maybe the Falls Fellow, and the group from plateau city is making their way out the door as you enter. They are talking fairly loudly and suddenly go silent as they realize who you are. perception DC 12 Highlight to display spoiler: { their conversation was all about how they were going to break into Flower's Temple and retrieve the staff hidden their.}

The bar mistress refuses to take your money as she says she that she feeds all the compeditors for free during the actual events if they come in. The group quickly orders up some fast food and they soon have trenchers full of meat pies, a roasted potatoe and a chunk of yellow cheese for a quick bite to eat as they make their way back out the door toward their destination.

Headed back out the door food in hand, there are only three staves and eight groups hunting, if they have made it this far in the competition, so they are likely perhaps to be competing up close and personal with one or more groups where ever they go.

Murphy suggests the mage's towers and starts off that way turning to see if the rest are in agreement or not and reminds them about using the whistle.

Shel sidles up to Murphy, as the group heads out toward the mage's towers. "The way the day has been unfolding, I suspect there might be a scrum at some point and time with another team. Remember, per the rules, we can't do any lasting harm to them or take any items from them. But, if I were to put them to sleep, and a staff just happened to fall out of their hands to the ground, I reckon we could pick it up and take it. I don't see that being a violation of the letter of the law. Just a thought for the rest of the night."

Then suddenly, she perks up. "Dinners not too bad, is it? Sandwiches aren't exactly my favorite, but in a pinch, they do nicely. "

As they wend toward the tower dwelling of the Second Dinner Club, Murphy asks, "So, how do we wangle an invitation into the tower, that we might spy out whence to purloin the purloined staff?"

Unless someone else has a better idea, Murphy says his plan is to knock on the front door.

The destination determined, Zylo says, "We'll get there faster taking the pathway than the road." He urges the group to go that way [see dots on map just above Belly Buster which lead up and to the left - northwest - rather than following the road down, right, right, up]. If the group does not go that way, Zylo himself will do so, running along as best he can by the light of the moons and stars and scattered lights of the town. If a group is in his way, he will go swiftly around them, attempting to do so in a reasonably stealthy manner (stealth 22, including +1 circumstantial bonus for it being nighttime). If he goes by himself, he will take the opportunity to scout out the environs of Flower's Temple to see who else might be about, and any activity around the grounds.

The decision is made to head to Flower temple and see what can be done about aquiring one of the three judges staves.

Zylo reminds everyone of the path going to the Temple, which would indeed probably put you there ahead of the Group form Plateau city as they appear to have headed down the road route.

The trip to the temple is uneventful and when you arrive you seem to be the only ones around. As you arrive at the wall with the gate, you find it a bit odd that the gate is closed and when tried locked. Alouryn can attest to the fact that the gate has never been locked in all of her memory. The wall is ten feet tall, rough stone and probably very easily climable. The gate is a five foot tall solid wooden gate set into the wall, with hinges on the right side but on the opposite side of the gate. There is a key hole about halfway up the gate on the left. There is a small rope, which could be a small bell pull coming out of and hanging from the wall above the gate.

"Zylo, Odo, Alouryn... shall we enter and seek?" he asks quietly. "Anyone else care to come within?"

If the gate is opened by Zylo, he steps within the grounds, and waves everyone in. He whispers to Alouryn, "The priestesses know people will be coming - this is part of the game, and expected of us. Now, how would you suggest we enter, and where shall we look?"

Hazel doesn't notice anything out of the ordinary on this side of the wall other than the gate being closed and locked, and reaches for the rope only to have Zylo stop him from grabbng it. and then scurries up and over the wall.

As he reaches the ground on the other side and looks at the gat he notices a small ledge just to the right of the gate. in it is a key that looks like it would fit the lock. trying it out first he finds that it turns easly and he hears a click as the gate opens up.

Meanwhile on the otherside, the others decide to send only a small part of the group inside, while the others wait and keep watch. The inside party seems to be Odo, Zyo, and Murphy, while the rest will remain outside. Alouryn though is having second thoughts about breaking into the temple at all and begins to go home, Eral tries to reason with her to get her to stay.

Those inside the walls see the path leading up to the door of the darkened temple, the temple doors are closed (which is not normal) and the shadowy darkness of the gardens surrounding the temple.

Murphy, aware of the noise his friends are making, and the activity in which they engage, quietly prays, closing his eyes as he stands behind Alouryn. "Flower, goddess of love and beauty, I pray you take no offense at what we do. I know that lovers enjoy games, and even playful teasing. Please look upon us awkward ones as ones who love, who play. If for some reason, you feel displeasure with us, rather than delight, please let us know. I pray thee, though, that you be gentle in any case. Truth be told, I myself am feeling a mite foolish at the direction this game we play has brought us. Uh, that is all. Selah."

(OOC: Ok all I have started back to work, so the majority of my posts now will not be made until after 6 :30 PM Est from now on. I will continue to post every 24 hrs.)

Odo Murphy, Zylo and Alouryn, altogehter not very quietly, move to the temple door and find that it is locked but Zylo makes quick work of it.

Alouryn is confident she can lead the group around the temple easily, though she hasn't been into the rear two rooms behind the alter. And unless things have been changed there are only so many places that a staff could be hidden. She also lets Odo know that the lamp shouldn't be needed as the temple is magically lit when there are people inside and the door is open.

Once the door is opened and the four step inside a soft light does indeed light up the inside of the temple. Everything looks fairly normal to Alouryn though there are a number of tall wooden poles that are standing erect at the sides of each row of benches, as well as the flower boxes at the front of the sanctuary.

Out side the gate, Edric goes and makes himself scarce behind some bushes while the others spread out a bit and keep watch on the trail and the road for the other group to show up. After but a few moments they start to ee a soft glow coming from the Temple door and another that seems to be more wavery, like torches, coming up from the road. Soon you see five members of Scalzo's Fury, the group ffrom Plateua city coming up the road.

He merely touches each pole the rest of the way down that aisle without slowing to examine them further. "Strong flowers here," he stages whispers to the three towards the front of the chapel. Hazel quickly comes up with a plan in what to say to the Fury team.

"Well, I am sure they don't want us to dig anyone up. We just came from fighting some huge rats, and my friend and I" - signaling his sling staff - "blow a couple of them up. I mean blowing them, never seen that happen before. But in the melee I got deafened, and was not able to hear the next clue. And well, my team is new, and I don't know them all well enough, and we got all split up, and I don't thing any of them has hear, much less understood what Hin Billy here have just said to you. And I think none of us, I can certainly say not me, what those Bad Apples win this year, I prefer some nice fellows like you to win. But you got to get moving! I would go with you, but I am not sure the rules allow people helping other teams. Thinking better about it, maybe is better if we leave this meeting private..." - looks towards Hin Billy - "...and don't tell anyone about it. And if you happen to win, I think Hin and I can accept a drink from you guys." - he winks at them - "You know, as friends, Because this is a game, after all, and people is taking it too seriously. Go, run, and keep your eyes open, good luck!"

So as to avoid confusion, Flimsipold was saying that there is nothing in the graveyard, while trying to make it obvious that there definitely is something in the graveyard, but he apparently failed at that and his attempt at making it seem that something is in the graveyard by claiming nothing is in the graveyard is probably a testament to the fact that there really is nothing in the graveyard.

There are more within the temple - dozens. Perhaps luck is with us, perhaps it will be with you. But there is no need for us to take an aggressive stance with each other, is there? Feel free to explore yourselves, or come with us back to the pavilion, as you like. But, as the rules of the game make clear, we may not take items you have gathered, nor may you take items we have gathered."

He addresses both the group from Plateau City and his own friends. "Let us play hard, but fair. None of us wants to develop the reputation the Bad Apples earned last year. And, who knows? Perhaps they will redeem themselves and play fair this year."

[Diplomacy11] Murphy hopes that moral suasion will encourage both groups to do what is right.

[Sense motive 23] "My brother spent some time in Plateau City. He told us it is an amazing place. As a native of Humble's Ford, welcome to our little community. I am Murphy." He holds out his hand in an offer to shake with whichever member of the group is closest. "Murphy Leafwin Pipewood." If one will shake his hand, he will then in turn offer to shake the hands of the other group members, too, and again wish them good luck.

As the Swords from within come out and rejoin their outside folk they can sense the tension in the air though most of it seems to be coming from the other swords themselves. The Fury have made no move toward their weapons.

So are you all going to stop us from going inside then the Fury leader asks the group outside. But know that if you do physically keep us from entering we will register a complaint with the judges. bluff DC 21 For inside is where we are going despite what your friends now say. Murphy wonders what mix of genders are found among the members of their rival team, and how their team responded to his outstretched hand, and what kinds of clothes they are wearing, and what kind of shape they appear to be in. Somehow or other, though, things seem vague... other than the fact that their nondescript leader (male? female?) is insistent on their being allowed to enter the temple.

All he says to the leader of team Fury, though, is, "Feel free to enter. We will not stop you. Again, good luck in the games."

Agreeing with Alouryn, and with a wave of the head toward Hazel to move down the road, Murphy heads out with the group. "Let's move our feet quickly, friends - we may just beat another team also returning." He jogs down the road, encouraging all to do likewise.

The Group hurries back to the Pavilion where the three judges are seated waiting teams to return, along with about 35 or 40 diehard spectators. As you show up from one end of the tent, you see the Buddy's Fall's Fellows standing in front of the judges.

The seven of them look more than a bit battered and very tired. You also hear the excited chatter of another group arriving from the other end.

Looking over you see that it is the Forest Walkers from the Culverwood. All eight of them look tired, but in good shape. The three young ladies in the group are leading the others in with the one with purple eyes called Violet carrying a staff, above her head, as if in victory.

You both arrive in front of the judges at just about the identical time, and just in time to hear the results of the team that is already standing in front of the judges.

Tolman Montajay is standing looking down at the Fellows as they hurriedly set forth the items they collected during the scavenger hunt. Montajay shakes his head slowly from side to side as looks at the items. "I am sorry but you have brought an eight sided gold nugget and the staff is not one of ours. I am sorry but you have been eliminated.

The sudden quiet in the tent is as this pronouncement is made and the Fellows bow their heads and begin to make their way from pavilion and toward the Flying Pig. As they leave Montajay retakes his seat.

As you and the Walkers move up to the bottom of the stage, Amaryllis Greenbottle stands up.

"Well, first off, I see that you both do indeed carry the correct staves. Please show us the rest of your items.

As the group lays out the items collected, Zylo gets a big smile on his face. Maybe coming back to Humble's Ford really was a good idea. Maybe some of the Humble's Swords can become his friends.

He looks over to the Forest Walkers. "If we're tied, it looks like we're all in for another good day tomorrow," he says to them. He usually does not feel so jolly about things, but, life is looking up.

Then the thought occurs, Don't get your hopes up, buddy. You'll just get them dashed again.

Amaryllis Greenbottle checks each of your items as they are presented and as Murphy repeats the poem that they heard.

She then moves over in front of the Forest Walkers and asks to see their items as well.

There is a little confusion as they can't seem to find their purple rose, but finally one of the other girls speaks up to one of her team mates. "Hob, didn't you put the flower in your haversack so it would be safe?" Thumping himself on the head the afore mentioned Hob quickly divests himself of his haversack and recovers the purple rose. Amaryllis finishes checking over their items and moves back to the center of the platform.

Murphy is fairly sure that he recognizes a couple of the Forest Walkers, though he wouldn't necessarily call any of them close friends. He has heard about purple eyed Violet though never met her, while he has met and come across two of the male members, Drogo and Tolman, in his wanderings through the Culverwood. He comes out of his musing as Madame Greenbottle begins speaking again.

"Congratulations to you both. You have successfully completed the scavenger hunt. Please be sure to be here at the tent ½ bell after sunrise tomorrow morning."

As Shel asks the question about how many teams are left, the mage looks down at the groups.

"Well I can't say at this moment, but you are the first two groups to have completed the scavenger hunt, and you saw that the Fellows have been eliminated. And of course the baron's best have withdrawn due to having several of their members having been very badly injured. However, I expect that if you think about it a moment you can figure out how many teams will move on to the individual competitions. I might suggest that you get plenty of rest tonight.

Odo looks around for the BadApples but sees no sight of them. As he asks some of the spectators about them, several of them spit on the ground and mention that they were seen coming through town much earlier in the evening and then heading up the North road toward the tower.

As you think about the next day's activities you remember being told that there are going to be ten competitions; Slinging Accuracy, Dagger Accuracy, Crescent Valley History, Dart Accuracy, Javelin Distance, Pony Acrobatics, Wrestling, Running, Swimming, and of course a Pie Eating Contest.

You also recall that everyone must participate in at least one competition and that no one individual may compete in more than two, though you may have more than one team member participate in the same event.

Thursday August 29th, 2013 9:33:30 PM

Some preliminay discussion is had about who might compete in which events. As the group begins to head out to go to sleep as another group, not the BadApples, heads into the pavillion area to try their hand at completing the scavenger hunt, though they seem a bit subdued.

The night passes quietly and the morning comes early as you are woken when you asked to be. As you head down to the common room for breakfast there are already a number of people up and eating and the room is abuzz with chit chat, gossip, and the latest news. Apparently the big news of the night though it can't seem to be verified is that one of the teams in the competition was disqualified for cheating. And to a lesser extent the other big announcement apparently, is that an additional individual competition has been added to the slate for the day and will be taking place under the pavillion on stage.

Breakfast done, the group heads over to the pavillion. You are the first group to arrive and you are greeted by a number of raucus cheers and congratulatory comments and yes even a boo or two, from the nearly two hundred spectators standing around and seated in the chairs along the sides of the area.

Several moments later the Forest Walkers arrive greeting and waving to you and the crowd. Their arrival causes another uproar of cheers and jeering as well as even a couple of boos.

Overheard from people in the gallery are a myriad of comments.

"Hey did you hear? A group was disqualified for cheating. I wonder if it was those BadApples? And they have added a performance competition to the individual competitions this year too. That should be fun. Hey do you know who the third group is? I am surprised that rag tag team from Humbles Ford made it through. (that last comment elicited a shove and a punch from so local and nearly causes a brawl until stopped by other nearby onlookers) I heard that one of the groups got badly mauled by that wolf pack that has been tearing up the area.

It is almost a quarter bell past sunrise and still no other teams have shown up for the day's competition.

Moments later, Mayor Bumbleluck and the three judges walk into the pavillion and climbing up on to the stage take their seats.

Just as the half bell begins to ring and the mayor stands up and move to the podium, you hear the sounds of a number of people rushing up from behind where you are seated. Turning, you see the BadApples entering the pavillion and strutting up the aisle to claim their seats. This arrival, again causes a bit of an uproar in the crowd as gain cheers and a number of boos ring out. In the back ground you can hear bets being placed and odds adjusted for the final competition winner as the last of the still competing teams is accounted for.

"Ok OK everyone clam down! Let's get started shall we. As I am sure you have heard the most distressing news that we had one team have to drop out due to injuries and that we had to disqualify another team for cheating last night so our third and final team to make it through to the Individual competitions is last year's champions, the BadApples (more cheers and boos). Joining them for the individual competitions are the Humble Swords (more cheers) and the Culverwood's Forest Walkers (more cheers and a few boos).

Well it seems that we have lost more teams on the first day than planned, so today becomes even more important, as only two teams will advance to the final day. Yesterday was a team competition and you worked together to accomplish the tasks assigned you. Today you are going to need to choose one or two group members to compete in some or all of the individual trials. So let me go over the ground rules.

You do not have to enter an event though you can gain no points in an event if you are not competing in it. "You must be in it to win it."

No single member can compete in more than two events and all members MUST compete in at least one.

Points will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places and then all points will be compiled and added together to create a group score. The two teams with the highest scores will advance to tomorrow's competition.

We decided last night to add an eleventh competition this year so this year's indivual competitions are as follows;

Slinging Accuracy,
Dagger Accuracy,
Crescent Valley History,
Dart Accuracy,
Javelin Distance,
Riding Acrobatics,
Wrestling,
Running,
Swimming,
Artistic Performance
and of course a Pie Eating Contest.

The first competitions will begin in thirty minutes so please get us you list of event compedititorsprior to that time.

[Note: For the Reader's Digest version, look at the ROSTERs below. Otherwise, you can read Murphy's running commentary which follows]

"We all did well yesterday. Some was easy, some was hard. We watched each other's backs," and here he gives a nod to Hazel, recalling his rearguard action last night. "And we tied for first in getting the scavenged items back in time."

"Today we have a different set of tasks. Less group work, more individual or paired efforts. Each of us gives to the team, however, as we work hard on our own at these events."

As he talks, he holds two pieces of parchment, each with what looks like an organized chart. He passes the two pages out so people can see them (see below).

"Slinging, Dagger and Dart all have a similar set of aptitudes and training," Murphy says. "It's throwing things for accuracy. No great distances here - they'll probably have targets about ten feet out or so, or maybe twenty. All of us can throw that far. It's just of matter of this - how close can we come to the bullseye?

"I propose the following group of people work out among themselves which they want to do of the three: Shel, Eral, Zylo, Alouryn

"Javelin Distance - Hazel. You have many skills, and could help in the accuracy events, too. But your arm is strong, and that is needed for the javelin. Eral, if you want to take only one of the accuracy events, you could double with Hazel, I suppose.

"All right - the following people and events I want set:
"Crescent Valley History - Alouryn and Zylo. Alouryn - you have studied history and religion at the academy, and are well suited. Zylo - you and I have fair acquaintance with local knowledge - and maybe you're better than I am at some of it.

"Performance - It goes without saying. Hin Billy. You have a talent for lyrics, and keep up a good tune, and your rhythm can't be beat. Ha! Oh, and, uh, you might want to think of a different theme than Mulberry. Save her praises for the after the contest. I'm just thinkin' of the judges' perspectives, y'know. What theme do you think... no, don't tell me. I want to be surprised.

"Wrestling and Running - Edric. You told me you enjoyed wrasslin' while growing up. And today as we all have been hustling here and there, you seemed fleet of foot and you have good lungs. You and Hazel are our best swimmers, you'd do great in the missile weapons, but we need you in these two.

"Pony acrobatics - Hazel. You ride Faoil right well. Time to see how you get on with a pony, eh? I can't wait to see you get a pony to do a cartwheel.

"Pie eating contest - Odo. You are our anchorman in this event. Once all is said and done, what do halflings enjoy more than a good pie? I know the answer to that. Lots of good pies, that's what we like! We'll be rootin' you on, envious all.

"Here, let's just all go over the rosters."
ROSTER: Assignment by Person
Alouryn: CV History, and one Missile accuracy event (Sling, Dagger, Dart)
Edric: Wrestling, Running
Eral: Missile accuracy event, plus choose 2nd Missile or Javelin
Flimsipold: Performance, and your choice
Hazel: Pony, Javelin
Murphy: Swimming, and your choice
Odo: Pies, and your choice
Shel: Missile accuracy event, and either a second Missile, or performance
Zylo: CV History, and one Missile accuracy event

ROSTER: Assignment by Event
Sling/Dagger/Dart: Alouryn, Eral, Shel, Zylo
Javelin: Hazel [Eral?]
Crescent Valley History: Alouryn, Zylo [Murphy?]
Pony: Hazel
Wrestle: Edric
Run: Edric
Swim: Murphy
Performance: Flimsipold [Shel?]
Pies: Odo
"Everyone should be in two events - even if you don't come in first, a 2nd or a 3rd place spot still adds to our team points. So, tell me clearly, plainly, if you have a choice for a 2nd event - that would be Billy, Odo, Shel's choice missile/performance, Eral on two accuracies or one accuracy and the javelin. And myself. Think I'll go for history. Murphy - swimming and history - if they will allow one team to have three members in one event. Since they didn't say 'no' - I will assume yes.

"So, quickly now: Any objections? Suggestions? I realize there will be some disappointments - I'd like to be in three events myself. Talk among yourselves. C'mon, Hazel, I need you as a witness just in case. We'll be back in about three minutes."

Murphy breaks off the from group with Hazel and approaches the Culverwood's Forest Walkers. "Hey, Drogo, Tolman. It's me, Murphy - we saw each other out in the Culverwood last year. Just wanted to wish you guys good luck. However it turns out, once it's over, lets raise a toast together." Addressing the rest of the group, he says, "Sorry to bother you. But, well done, so far!" Unless they detain them with conversation, he steps away.

As they walk to the Bad Apples, he tells Hazel, "Sorry, no time to introduce you. That's not what this is for, anyway." Once in earshot he tells last year's champions, "Way to go - I figured you all would make it this far. Just came by to wish you luck. We'll let you get back to it. See you on the field!" He won't allow himself or Hazel to be detained more than a moment, as they need to get back to his own group. "Thanks for being my bodyguard, Bob," he tells his friend with a gentle nudge to the ribs, using the first name that Hazel seldom uses.

And, on their return, he says, "All right. We have about six or seven minutes. Lay it out."

"Umm Murphy. I'm not too sure how good I will be at throwing stuff. Not really my Forte. I think I would have a better chance at the Pie Eating. I might be small but my stomach is large. I could also do the Run Event or Wrestling. Just let me know what we need." Eral pats on his belly as he talks. He is more than willing to participate any way the group needs but wants to not let people down.

Shel turns to the other 'throwers.' "I think darts would be my game. I'd be happy to have another couple of you throwing with me though. Like Murphy said, we need to be in as many events as we can to gather up all the points possible!" Her tone rose as she gave this speech, clearly excited. She began bouncing back and forth from foot to foot, ready for the action to begin.

"Whoever we got knife throwing though should probably use this, if they can." Odo pulls out the supposedly magic dagger Shel gave him the day before, and will give it to whoever is taking part in the dagger accuracy event.

"I mean, I know a fair amount, I suppose, and I grew up here, mostly, but I spent some time in Plateau City, so may have a few holes in what I'll be able to remember. Now, if you still want me to, I'll do the history thing - but since you want to be in the history contest, too, Murphy, what if I swap that out for dart accuracy, along with Shel? Dagger throwing is fine, though."

The three groups pass pleasantries along to each other as they pass each other going to where-ever it is that each group is doing its planning sessions.

The swords find a quiet little area and sit down for a bit of discussion and planning and in a matter of 10-15 minutes there is a rough out of who is going to participate in which events. (You will have until Monday morning to submit your fianl list and may post as you wish over the weekend to make any plans or strategies you may put into play.)

**Please note Hazel and others that the event is riding acrobatics, not Pony acrobatics. So your mount can be anything.

"Try not to trip! Just joking. All the luck."

"Thanks for being my bodyguard, Bob," he tells his friend with a gentle nudge to the ribs, using the first name that Hazel seldom uses.

My pleasure, Bumblebee! - he answer with the playing nickname he has always used with Murphy - Don't you think Alouryn looks lovely today? Damn! I need to take that girl out of my head, and concentrate. Do you think they will let me ride Faoil? If we can do it together, we will own the riding competition.

Talking with Hazel on the way back, Murphy says, "Faoil? Maybe they will. Let's just ask to make certain." So, Murphy asks if Hazel can show off his riding skills on his dog, rather than on a pony (which question Kent already has answered in the affirmative).

"Alouryn?" he responds to his friend's comments. "Yep, she is lovely indeed, as is Shel. We are graced with some beautiful women. Besides, just thinnk, Hazel, you also have me, who has a lovely gap between his two teeth. Just how lucky can a guy like you get, I wonder?" He adds, "Just don't let my marvelous teeth distract you in the midst of competition, Haze," and gives him a quick wink. "If you are, though, I know you won't be the first one that has happened to, so, don't be too hard on yourself." Hazel sees his friend's mock-serious face.

"Edric - For the greatest chance for our team to win, it's better if you are in both wrestling AND running. I am fine with Eral choosing either one - but we still need him in the pie contest, too."

"Alouryn - As you are skilled in dance - go ahead and join Flimsipold and Shel in performance. One could argue it would help our chances to have two people, and not three, in each event possible, but if we sweep performance, why, that would be sweet, too. Maybe you three can work out something together - if the judges will allow for group performance. If not, then I guess an individual dance is what you'll want to prepare for!"

At this time, Murphy submits the final assignments. The only change that should be permissable is if Eral wants to run rather than wrestle (or if someone else insists on a tweak before Kent has the Monday post).

As the rosters are posted there is a major flurry as the bookmakers rush about to set odds on indidual events as well as on individuals as well and just about anything you can thing of. And there seems to be a lot of betting taking place amongst the spectators.

Mayor Bumbleluck steps up on a small stage set to one side. "Ok, OK everyone let me have your attention please." We are just about ready to begin the competitions. Please note that good sportsmanship is the rule for the day. We want this to be a fair and friendly competition. We will begin with the History competition and then we will move on to the others as we go. The final competition will be tonight at the Dancing Pig, where we will have the performance competition."

The competition begins with the Crescent Valley History competition and the judges have placed themselves in three chairs lined up in front of a small stage with 6 chairs on it. Only four of those chairs are occupied as apparently the Forest Walkers are conceding this event to those who are actually from and live in the area.

So for the Crescent Valley History competition we have Alouryn and Murphy of the Humble Swords, competing against Crystal and Belba of the BadApples.

Please write down the answers to the following five questions.

During what age was the Crescent Valley finally home to halflings?
Who was the mage that created the Giamt Towers?
Who is the druid that takes care of the former inmates of the sanitorium?
How did the Dancing Pig get its name?
Who or what are the Yoke?

*** if you personally know the answers (without looking them up) then answer them if you do not, then make a knowledge history or local role DC 12 for each question.

OOC: this post is made for tomorrow's competition. Shel throwing darts.

Shel hasn't spoken much to Zylo as luck would have it, before the dart throwing event. "Much luck to you Zylo, please bring home a win for the good guys! Assuming I don't do that, I suppose. Eh, nevertheless, I hope one of us wins."

Shel takes five of the tiny darts in hand and focuses intently on the target. Again and again she lets e projectiles fly until they were all gone. She took her familiar pose of nervously hopping from one foot to the other as she waited for the judge's tally.

Three atrocious throws later he only wish she didn't saw the competition.

He also cheers his other teammates, flinching at Shel's horrible last Dart Throw, and helping Eral oil his skin, while avoiding Alouryn out of shame.

"Remember, Eral, don't let him have you back!"

Tomorrow I'll post the Riding throws. Hope I got more luck then.

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood Crescent Valley Quiz Time (Kim McCoy)  d20+2=14 ; d20+2=18 ;
Tuesday September 3rd, 2013 5:01:32 AM

At this juncture it's lucky for Murphy that his brother Kendry and sister Selithe insisted that the family read and listen to their stories of adventures in Crescent Valley and other places round about.

The answers (or Knowledge: Local roll results, which Murphy would translate into the appropriate answers) are in bold type below.
[blockquote]During what age was the Crescent Valley finally home to halflings? - [Maybe 3rd but probably 4th, once the Teucri set the guard towers] Knowledge Local 14 (So he just manages to dredge up the correct age - I do know Eberyon's recounting of the creation of the halflings, but that does not include their placement in Crescent Valley)
Who was the mage that created the Giant Towers? - Shafbaffum
Who is the druid that takes care of the former inmates of the sanitorium? - Graeff
How did the Dancing Pig get its name? - "Named for a wild hog it took a long time to trap, that the hunters let loose in the pub's kitchen. It raised a ruckus. The pub owners cooked it up, and renamed their place (whatever it used to be) after the pig - called it the Dancing Pig. Partly because of the pig, and its wild dance through the kitchen, I suppose, and partly because - that's where folks go to dance - in the same place the pig danced up a storm." *
Who or what are the Yoke? - DC 18 [and Kim has no idea, but apparently Murphy does know fairly well][blockquote]* As a footnote to his quiz, Murphy adds: "Also, they serve up pretty good bacon there, at the Dancing Pig, but that is not part of my official answer."

Zylo's opening dagger misses the target entirely (nat 1), the errant blade flying well past the intended spot. He then has an excellent throw, 22, a solid throw, 16, and a superb throw, 23. He finishes this competition as he began - the dagger lands about six feet in front of the target, the handle stuck in the grass. Zylo considers falling upon the up-pointing dagger.

He shakes off his decidedly uneven performance. "All right, Hin Billy. Beat that!" He waits for the bard to put his all into it.

=====

For the darts, he thanks Shel for her well-wishes. "Yep. Let's try one-two!" He watches - and her throws are mostly passable, with a real good penultimate flight, but ending with a wide miss.

His turn announced, he steps to the line. Holding on to the first dart, he moves his arm forward and back a few times to accustom his arm to the heft. Then he releases smoothly. A bullseye (nat 20, for 24) on his first throw! A nearly perfect 2nd effort (23). A respectable throw (18). A passable cast (15). Come on, man, don't buckle to pressure. Focus. Take your time. He lines it up. Meh. A 13. Well, he hopes his strong start can swing him into 1st place, or at least a solid 2nd. Now to see how the competition lines up.

Murphy, excited to compete head to head against five other people, finds his excitement level dampened when Lotho's formidable entry into the water nearly drowns him. His head turns to the side for his first breath only to suck in a wave (Swim: 6). He struggles to recover (9), when near the midpoint of the race the many hours of swimming he has enjoyed since his boyhood come to his rescue (18). He comes on strong in the latter part of the race (22), kicking furiously, and finishes as well as he might apart from any external augmentation (24 - nat 20), feeling his strong, smooth stroke at last.

As he touches the marker at the end of furious race, he looks about to see if he was able to pull victory - or at least a respectable placing - out of such a tough beginning.

Beginning with the sling accuracy challenge, Odo looks around to see that no one else on his team is competing with him. He begins spinning his sling, aiming for the target with an eye narrowed. His first shot, of course, goes badly (8 to hit). "Just warming up. Heh." he comments to anyone nearby. He then proceeds to knock out four fairly decent shots with Pebbledasher (14, 22, 20 and 24 to hit). Quite pleased with himself, he pats his belly, swings his sling back over his shoulder and marches off to the pie eating contest when all is said and done.

OOC: Because I'm not too clear on the nature of the pie-eating contest (other than it involving eating pies, of course) I'm just going to list the rolls here: 18, 8, 11, 19 and 13.

Flimsipold strut up to the range with a smug grin on his face, "I think ya should get ya eyes checkered, Zylo!" he giggled derisively, though amicably enough. He looked to the five daggers before himself and began a little warming up exercise, starting with stretching his arms and shoulders, and ending with the very loud crackling of his knuckles. "Now watch the magic fingers at work!" He said, picking up the first dagger's blade between two fingers and taking an all too comical throwing position.

Though Flim's initial throw is well enough sub-par, he quickly picks up the pace, landing a beautiful hit with just his second (nat 20). Delighted by his achievement, Flimsipold then took to giving it more credit than it was worth, his horseing around gets to the point where the fourth throw he does with his back turned. Noticing this failure and the potential effect on his score, he somewhat awkwardly repositions himself for a more conservative last try.

Note that if Point Blank Shot is in order, everything is at +1.

It is very obvious that the Humble swords are ready for the history competition as soon as the questions are asked both Murphy and Alouryn start writing immediately. A couple of the questions seem to give them a few problems but they work right through them, Whereas the members of the BadApples seem to be struggling with a number of the questions. When it is all said and done the results are as follows.

1st pace Alouryn, 2nd place Murphy, 3rd Place Crystal

*******

The athletic competitions begin with swimming first thing while everything is still a bit cool. You gather along the shore of the river, looking at a buoy floating just at the other bank.

Murphy, and the others set a number of young female hearts a-flutter in their swimming costume, wade out to the start, which is just about knee-deep on him. Right next to him is Lotho and he looks over at you an mouths a few words to you. "So are you ready to drown?" The rest of his opponents wade into the water to get ready and facing you both is a short, muscular woman flag raised in her hand.

"OK then, around the buoy and back to this line," she says. "Ready--GO!"

You all take off, and that Lotho nearly does drown Murphy as he hits the water and sends a wave cascading ove him Before Murphy quite knows what's happening, He sees Violet ahead and opening up a lead. Murphy and Candy are nearly neck and neck right behind and surging forward, but Violet is almost already to the buoy, and if anything is farther ahead.

Rounding the buoy, though, the other swimmer seems to tire and Murphy seems to be making some headway. His stroke isn't as clean and his breathing pattern is off, but Murphy manages to close the distance almost as rapidly as the other kid opened it.

Violet, Murphy and Candy are nearly even as they approach the line, when Violet puts on a burst of speed leaving both Murphy and Candy behind. Murphy tries his best to pull ahead of candy but it seems every time he makes a move she is right there with them and they cross the finish at the same time.

Results of Swimming: 1st place Violet (FW), 2nd place Candy & Murphy

*****

The footraces are next. And only Edric is entered and he lnes up at the marked start line and is quickly joined by Candy Crystal and Hob. Just off to the side sitting in a chair is Halfred Humble. He looks you all over and in his soft gravelly voice tells you.

"OK, once around the field and back to this line," "Ready--GO!"

Edric gets off to a pretty good start and actually has a pretty good lead on the rest of the runners when they get to the first turn he looks over his shoulder and finds that suddenly the other three and right on his heels and soon pass him by. He runs the rest of the race looking at the others in front of him wondering how he managed to do that.

Results: 1st Place Crystal, 2nd Place Candy, 3rd place Hob

In the weapon events there are three different target ranges and an open area for the Javelins.

In the Sling competition there are small animal targets of squirrels and rabbits set up in and around the area's trees and shrubs and each competitor comes into the range not having seen the previous competitor's round.

The sling stones fly and nearly everyone has a good round with some truly amazing shots. As each competitor moves through the range you hear the comments from the spectator's gallery as shots are hit and missed It sounds like Odo is having a really good round as you hear cheer after cheer for him and less cheers for the others that came before him and after. Finally there is only one final competitor, and from the start you can tell he is having an amazing round. Finally the scores are tallied and the results announced.

1st place Lotho, 2nd Place Odo, 3rd place Violet

**********

In the dagger range they have targets of giants, orcs and goblins with an occasional Halfling child that pop out from behind trees and the such. The object of course is to hit the bad guys and not hit the good guys.

Zylo has a hot and cold outing as he hits three of the bad guys with killing shots but also manages to hit accidently hit two of the good guys.

Flimsibold has a decent enough round and manages not to hit any of the good guys but did miss one of the bad guy targets.

Two of the competitors from the Forest Walkers do extremely well here and the final results show as such.

1st Place Fosco, 2nd Place Verna, 3rd Place Flimsibold

*************

The dart competition is much more traditional with standard targets set up at a couple of varying distances.

Shell starts out and send 4 darts directly at their intended target with one in the bulls eye, but on the last dart something flashes across her eyes and she totally misses with her final dart.

Zylo follows after that and has several truly amazing throws and nails every one of his targets and has two bulls eyes to boot.

The only other competitor to actually hit her targets on a consistent basis is Belba but she also missed one target completely with one bulls eye.

Results 1st place Zylo, Second Place Belba & Shel

********

In the Javelin the object is primarily distance, but they are looking for consistency with accuracy as well and have several giant sized straw targets spread out at different distances on the range.

By far, Candy is the most consistent with her throws sending all five of her javelins into the target midway down the range, while Drogo hits with four of his javelins and missed with his last as he tried for the farthest target.

Hazel starting out nailed the first midrange target and the followed that up with decent distance but not much accuracy on the next three, so following Drogo's plan he takes aim at the farthest target and lets fly with his final javelin, nailing it dead center. That final javelin is enough to secure him a placing.

Results 1st Place Candy, 2nd Place Drogo, 3rd place Hazel.

Eral is a bit slow off the mark in his first bout and is quickly taken down by his opponent but he rallies quickly making an escape an then capitalizing on his opponent's slip and takes him to the mat where he manages to finally get the match on points.

Edric on the other hand gets out of the box quickly, but can't seem to a hold of his opponent and finds himself quickly on the ground and wrestling for his life against a much more muscled Lotho. The match goes back and forth with both contestants gaining points when in an amazing move Edric swings around Lotho's back and somehow plants him on his back for a quick and neat pin fall.

In the final matches Eral also pins Lotho and Edric pins Odo B, while the other matches fall to other competitors.

Results 1st Place Edric, 2nd place Odo B, 3rd Place Eral

********

As Hazel is preparing for the riding competition, One of his opponents approaches him. He is a tall, dark-haired, good-looking Halfling lad with a ready smile. "Fosco Bramble", at your service," he says, extending a hand. "I see I'll have to be at my best, if I'm to ride against the pair of you, indicating Faoil! May the best rider win!"

You draw lots to see who gets which position. Once you are all mounted, the horse-master signals and the race / competition begins.

Fosco absolutely leaves everyone else in the dust, setting a bruising pace. And makes to the first obstacle well before everyone else. Hazel tries gamely to keep up, and seems to be gaining at one point, after the third obstacle Hazel has a bit of a stumble while Fosco keeps up the nearly perfect ride.

On the last section of the competition where you are each doing a series of vaulting moves on and off your mounts as they are moving along the track Hazel begins to make his move and somehow you manage to cross the finish line several lengths ahead of the others.

However, Fosco is laughing as he dismounts and comes back ove to Hazel. "What a rider!" he exclaims. "I wish you could have more like you on our hunts!"

Results 1st Place Hazel 2nd place Fosco, 3rd place Milo

The long afternoon draws quickly to a close as everyone finally gathers in the center of the field for the pie eating contest, where the two Odos, Eral, Tolamn and Hob take their places in chairs set up infront of a table where there are five large assorted fruit pies sitting in front of each chair.

The moderator for this event is none other than Miss Mullberry Drinkwater herself. Ok, the rules are simple. You must be the first to completely eat all five pies and keep them down. the entirety of each pie must be eaten. Nothing may be left on the ground, table ot in the pie plate. Are you all ready? BEGIN!!!

Pies ar dove into as quickly as you could name weach of the fruits they are made of, and different techniques are used to devour the pies as well some are using one hand while others are using two. A couple are just picking up the pie plates and eating right off the plate.

Eral and Odo B get off to a bit of a rocky start and Odo B actually ends up spitting a bunch of his pie back out and onto the pie plate where he determinedly starts eating it again.

Odo and Hob are the first two to down a pie and seem to be going at just about the same speed and bite for bite. But then about half way through the second pie Odo slows down for some reason and Hob goes on to finish his second pie.

Odo B makes up some ground as does eral and soon all five are on their last pie. It looks like it is going to be a close finish when Hob suddenly turns to the side and lets fly covering the ground behind him in chucks of fruit and crust.

Results 1st place Odo B, 2nd place Eral, 3rd place Odo.

[OOC for Alouryn, Flimsipold and Shel: If you want to do such an interpretive dance, the song Murphy sang for the group (go to Archives to see post of Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood (Kim) [at Belly Buster] on Friday July 12th, 2013 1:09:20 AM) about that event may be a useful reference point. -Kim

Eral Sunstrider AC:18/12/17 HP:11/11 Spells (3/0+1)(A. Skomrock)
Wednesday September 4th, 2013 6:29:13 AM

"Great Job team. Let me get cleaned up and I will meet you down in the Dancing Pig." Eral will go down to the stream to clean off any left over oil from himself and to clean up the pie from his face. After getting clean Eral will get is gear back on and head to the Dancing Pig ready to cheer on Shel, Alouryn and Flimsipold.

Shel Breezelee Kromnite (Gerald) HP8/8; AC 14/14/11  d20+4=8 ; d20+4=18 ; d20+4=9 ; d20+4=15 ;
Wednesday September 4th, 2013 9:39:28 AM

Well, I can't dance as well as Alouryn, and I can't sing as well as Hin Billy. What to do?

"Murphy, would you mind if I did a dramatic reading of the song you did before? It looks like we have singing and dancing covered, so maybe a bit of a dramatic oration would be called for?" Assuming Murphy had no problem with her rearranging his song, she took to the stage.

In Crescent Vale they tell the tale
Of when the green grass grew
With twisted cords it wrapped and scored
The big'uns coming through

Past tall stone sentinels they fought
But deep deep magic flew
And pierced their limbs and made them doubt
The wisdom of Chief Gniew

Then hied the slingers came the knives
A-flying through the air
And giants saw the might of wives
Whose skillets broke their stare

Though ten times their size ungainly they
When little folk they thought would yield
The small ones made them richly pay
For messing up their green grass fields

So giants - 'ware the little folk
'Tis Wardd's own luck they make
You'll ne'er break the oxen's yoke
On halflings' lands you try to take!

In Crescent Vale they tell the tale
Of when the green grass grew
With twisted cords it wrapped and scored
The big'uns coming through

Unfortunately, Shel's nerves got to her and her performance was very up and down. About half of it was pleasant, but the other half, had some issues with her stressing the wrong word in the sentence, etc.

Hazel: 17/13/15 - CMD:14 - HP:13/13 (Corsario)
Wednesday September 4th, 2013 11:00:17 AM

Hazel cheers as Alouryn wins the History competition, and pats Murphy's back for his second place.

"Well done my friends! Well done indeed!" - he tells them with a huge smile.

At the swimming competition he flinches at Murphy's problems at the start, almost gets in the water to help Lotho, and cheers to heart content at the close finish.

"That was close, Murphy! Very close! Too bad the start cost you the race... but well, a first and a second, we can't ask you more than that."

At the races we gives Edric some water at the finish line.

"I don't get it... you had this one, I can 't understand how they beat you! Don't worry, we are in a good position still."

He cheers Odo and Hin Billy in their competitions, screaming at them between throws:

"Like they were yesterday's rats! Doing good!"

But he really goes wild at the darts competition, with Zylo and Shel doing the 1-2.

Well done! We have this one won! Congratulations! I just need to win the javalin competition, and we are set! - Says while shaking their hands.

After his own Javelin competition Hazel gets more serious, shamed by his 3rd place. He shakes Candy BadApples hand with a somber face.

"Beat me fair and square, congratulations!"

After that we goes to get ready for the riding competition, without paying attention to the wrestling one.

At Fosco greetings Hazel answers quickly:

"This is Faoil, and I am Bob Danderfluff LaRue, at your service, but please call me Hazel, yes, may the best rider win.

Hazel almost feels the tears coming up while he is losing the race, but braces himself, trust in Faoil and at the end he dismounts and embraces Faoil.

"Well done you damn dog! Well done indeed! Yes! Yes! YES!"

When Fosco arrives Hazel grabs his hand with both of his, and shakes it vigorously:

"Thank you! And I would love to hunt with a magnificent rider like yourself any day! I though you had me beaten, but obviously I got lucky to have won. You are the best rider I have seen. When this is over I'll buy you a drink, and of course we need to go hunting one day!"

All the way Hazel is looking around to see if Alouryn has seen him win the competition.

With his confidence back he cheers Odo and Eral dominates the pie eating contest.

"Well done team! I guess we have win this year competition. Now we only need to see the flower bloom in this field, and we are done." - he tells the team while in route to the performance competition.

Flimsipold "Hin Billy" Williewhim AC: 15/13/13 HP: 10/10 (C. Neagu)  d20+5=18 ; d20+7=19 ; d20+9=11 ; d20+9=17 ; d20+9=25 ;
Wednesday September 4th, 2013 12:55:10 PM

Flimsipold is more than eager to aid Alouryn with her performance if that's in order.
----
From behind the stage, a very high pitched, and somewhat nasal voice shouts out to the audience; "AND NOW, PLEASE WELCOME TO THE STAGE THE MOST GREATEST, MOST AMAZINGEST, MOST DELICIOUSSEST, MOST TALENTEST AND UNDENIABLY MEZMERIZINGEST, THE HIN WHAT Y'ALL BEEN WAITIN' FOR! THE ONE, THE ONLY, HIN BILLY!"

And were it not clear enough by now, Flimsipold comes up to the stage still pinching his nose. He drops his backpack to the floor and pulls out a small chair, which he unfolds and settles in the middle of the stage, taking his seat on it and bringing his mandolin up in his lap. "How y'all doin' tonight, HUMBLE'S FOOOOOOOOOOORD!?"

He strummed the mandolin a couple of times, pretending like he knew exactly what he was doing, but knowing him probably just showing off. "This is a song my good pal Otter Barfoot helped me wrote, ey! And it's 'bout the particular kind of apples what tastes no good, n'a mean? Bad Apples."

"Weeeeeeeeeeeell...." Began Flimsipold,

Took a bite out an apple,
Let me tell y'all it were bad;
Got the mushy-trashy feelin',
Just like ripe pus on the tongue!
I say, it gots the mushy-trashy feelin',
Yeah, it's mean, old'n putrid clad!

Well, y'know I ain't like spoiled stuff,
And BadApples most of all.
Was about to throw the damn thing,
Almost bust it 'cross the wall,
When a sick ol' worm goes wrigglin' out,
So queasy he could barely crawl.

Yeah, he looked deep in my soul,
With his fadin', beady eyes,
He said, "Don't you pick'em apples, cub."
Straight fo' sure, them words is wise,
"They'll go n' ruin ye dinner club."
Took a last breath an'he dies...

Well, given that I'm confused as to how to deal with Flimsipold's singin' and playin' at once, I'll pass one of the perform rolls to his voice performance, and the other two to his mandolinoreeing. Rolls are:

Craft (Song) - 18
Perform (Sing) - 19
Perform (Mandolin) - 11, 17

Last roll is Perform (Mandolin) - 25 assuming I am allowed to assist Alouryn with her performance.

(OOC Kent: Yes you may)

Odo cheers on the performers at the Pig. He's somewhat disappointed with his own performance, but applauds and congratulates the other team members for their good work, especially Eral once the pie-eating is done.

Edric Lowbrook (Damian); HP: 12/12

The wrestling victory helps Edric to get over the running loss. He gathers his gear, ready to meet at the Dancing Pig.

The Dancing Pig is fuller than any of you have ever seen it, in fact every table in the place has been removed and replaced with extra chairs set up in row behind row behind row, with just enough space inbetween for the barmaids to make their ways down the aisles to take orders and deliver drinks. And boy is the alcohol flowing freely. A performance area has been set up at the far end of the bar leaving a semicircular floor space with just enough room for the dancers and where the musicians can be right dead center of the crowd.

Miss Mulberry once again takes the center stage and once again calls for everyone's attention.

"All righty now folks! Let's quiet down just a bit, so we can try and get this final competition underway. If it please you all fine folk, let me once again introduce our Judges, "The Second Dinner Club. Miss Amaryllis GreenBottle, Mr. Tolman Montajay, and Mr. Theadric Redleaf." The three of them stand up in front of their front and center seats and wave toe polite applause running through the crowd.

"None of our performers have any Idea what order they will be perorming in as we are simply drawing the names from a hat.

So for our first performer tonight, we have from the Humble swords, Ms. Alouryn Buttercup Bumblebottom performing an interpretive dance choreographed around the battle for the Hill. She will be accompanied by Flimsibold Williewhim."

Alouryn's choreography is spot on and beautiful and she does a very nice job bringing the ppiece to life and she got stronger as the piece progressed. As she leapt and pranced across the floor throwing in arobesques and piroettes, she brings different characters from her story to life. When she is done she gets a strong set of applause and she exits the stage knowing she did the best she could do.

*******

Mulberry steps in as she leaves the stage. "Wow, that was amazing. So fluid and beautiful." She pauses a moment and then continues. Ok then, now we have Ms. Shel Breezelee Kromlite performing a dramatic reading of a song written by Flimsibold Williewhim.

Shel takes the stage a bit nervous to be following Alouryn's dance but that is the luck of the draw. Fortunately the nerves do not play a bit into the beginning of her piece and she gets into the proper rhythm, nearly immediately and the audience seems to be on the edge of their seat eating it up. By the middle though when speaking of the giants she seems have a moment or two where she stumbles a bit over the rhythms she concocted and while she recovers toward the end again, Shel knows it was not her best effort. As she ends she gets quite a bit of applause though it is plain that it was not equal to Alouryn's.

*********

Paldo BadApple comes next and while his voice is not great, his pipe work between the verses is quite good and the lyrics from a local favorite drinking song have the crowd hopping and singing along.

Paldo

When god made gnomes,
He didn't have to work,
But they're a damn sight better
Than those Goblin jerks!

Singing Glorious, Glorious!
Three kegs of beer for the four of us!
Singing Glory be to god
That there are no more of us,
For one of us could drink it all alone

When god made Dwarves
He didn't make much,
But they're a damn sight better
Than those ugly Yrch!

Singing Glorious, Glorious!
Three kegs of beer for the four of us!
Singing Glory be to god
That there are no more of us,
For one of us could drink it all alone

When god made Centaurs,
He must have lost his mind,
But they're a damn sight better
than Humankind!

Singing Glorious, Glorious!
Three kegs of beer for the four of us!
Singing Glory be to god
That there are no more of us,
For one of us could drink it all alone

When god made the elves,
He must have been at lunch,
For anything is better
Than that pointy-eared bunch!

Singing Glorious, Glorious!
Three kegs of beer for the four of us!
Singing Glory be to god
That there are no more of us,
For one of us could drink it all alone

When god made halflings,
He stopped right there
For they're damn near perfect,
Down to their very last hair

Singing Glorious, Glorious!
Three kegs of beer for the four of us!
Singing Glory be to god
That there are no more of us,
For one of us could drink it all alone

As he closes out the song on his pipes there is a thunderous roar of approval and soon the barmaids are overly busy bringing drinks to many inthe audience.

*********

Crystal BadApple is next to take the stage with yet another dance and while not as technically difficult as Alouryn's, the performance is nearly flawless and as she lays herself out on the floor as she dies at the end of her piece, the audience is totally silent for several seconds and then the applause comes steadily and heartily. Crystal looks almost embarassed from all the attention, as she makes her way from the stage area.

**********

Flimsibold himself is next and as he calls on the citizens of Humbles Ford they respond with a fervor and they seem ready for what he is about to give them. As he announces his song there is a peculiar hum that runs through the crowd like they weren't sure they heard him right about the song being about BadApples.

He goes through his song and while much of the audience is into it and tapping their feet and truly listening there is another component of the audience that is not very happy about the apparent dissing of their particular favorite team. He plays it very well with only a small let down in the middle and ends strongly get laughter and hillarious applause from those who like the song.

***********

The final performer of the night is Verna Ivyvine from the Forest Walkers and she takes the stage setting up a chair and placing a tall slender drum between her knees and after beginning a catchy little rhythm begins to sing a jig like drinikng song.

And, it's all from me vine,
Me jolly, jolly wine!
All gone for beer and tobaccer.
Sven told me Tim's, Out drinkin' gin.
So across the town we wander!

Oh, where is me hat,
Me noggy, noggin hat?
All gone for beer and tobaccer.
Well, the brim is wore out,
And the crown is kicked about,
And me hair is looking out for better weather!

And, it's all from me vine,
Me jolly, jolly wine!
All gone for beer and tobaccer.
Sven told me Tim's, Out drinkin' gin.
So, across the town we wander!

Oh, where is me shirt,
Me noggy, noggin shirt?
All gone for beer and tobaccer.
Well, the sleeves is wore out,
And the collar's kicked about,
And me tails is looking out for better weather!

And, it's all from me vine,

All gone for beer and tobaccer.
Sven told me Tim's, Out drinkin' gin,

And, it's all from me vine,
Me jolly, jolly wine!
All gone for beer and tobaccer.
Sven told me Tim's, Out drinkin' gin.
So, across the town we wander!

I'm sick and stony broke,
And parted from me smokes,
The sky is looking blacker than the thunder.
And the tavern keeper, too,
For I haven't got a sue...
That's the way you're treated when you're out and yonder!

And, it's all from me vine,
Me jolly, jolly wine!
All gone for beer and tobaccer.
Sven told me Tim's, Out drinkin' gin.
So, across the town we wander!

I'm sick to me head, Haven't een been to bed,
Since first we came ashore with me plunder.
I see centipedes and snakes,
I'm full of pains and aches,
So I guess we better push out over yonder!

And, it's all from me vine,
Me jolly, jolly wine!
All gone for beer and tobaccer.
Sven told me Tim's, Out drinkin' gin.

The very, by this time, lubricated audience eats the song up nearly screaming the chorus after each verse with a number of then actually moving some chairs and performing their own little jigs in the aisles much to the dismay of the barmaids and nearby patrons.

As she finishes her last chorus with a fancy drum roll the audience breaks into a loud roar of applause that seems to last forever, until Verna makes her way off the stage.

*******

Mulberry steps back up and quickly gets the attention of the crowd. Alright let's have a final round of applause and appreciation for all our performers tonight. The judges will confer for a few moments and we will announce the winner momentarily.

As she finishes speaking the audience breaks out with chants of support for their favorite act. If you listen closely you can hear supporters for all of the performers. Eventually this begins to die down and there is a bit of unease as the judges have not come up with the placing and seem to be taking a long tome conferring with each other. after what seems like forever but was in reality only about 10 minutes the judges wave Mulberry over and hand her a piece of parchment.

Making her way to center stage, Mulberry holds up the parchment. So the judges results are in and apparently it was a very close thing, but we do ahve the results.

In 1st place we have Ms. Verna Ivyvine. Second place goes to Crystal BadApple. and we have a tie for 3rd Place between Paldo badApple and Allouryn Buttercup Bumblebottom.

The crowd goes crazy chearing for the winners and som in disagreement about who they thought should have won. And all this time Mulberry is standing on stage waving the parchment trying to get everyone's attention again, finally things calm down and she continues.

So with that being the last of the individual events, we also have the final results of the points for the teams. In 1st Place and moving on to tomorrow's event, our own Humble Swords!!!!!!!! joining them tomorrow if the competition finals will be the BadApples!!!!!!

Congratualtions to all three teams but especially to the two still in the running. In a fewmoments the house band will be set up and everyone can dance!

Alouryn AC: 16/14/13 HP: 8/8 (Vaughn)
Wednesday September 4th, 2013 10:21:30 PM

Alouryn is flattered to have placed ahead of her friends and to make the podium in this event which meant even more to her than the history one. Once the crowd settles she steps in the middle of the floor and cracks her whip very loudly.
"To celebrate moving on and everyone's efforts today I would like to call Verna, Crystal, Paldo and Flim to the stage. Ladies and gent if you would entertain my notion, I would like to join Crystal and the whole bar in dancing to Verna's, Paldo's and Flimsipold's wonderful songs one more time! I want to see everyone from all three groups up here with us!"
Alouryn will insist Verna and Paldo and of course Hin Billy play again and will first dance with Crystal (if she agrees) and then with each of the other Humble's Swords members during the three songs; this time for the sake of merriment rather than competition.
Later she will sit down with Hazel,
"You and Faoil were really great today. The judges wouldn't let me help anyone but you didn't need the help anyway. I can't believe I did so well on the test. I just finished cleric school though so I guess that helps. Did you like my dance? It was really hard but I got through it OK. I wasn't expecting that out of Crystal though, wow! I wonder what we will have to do tomorrow?"

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood Credit where credit is due (Kim McCoy)
Thursday September 5th, 2013 5:38:41 AM

Murphy was right pleased with how well his teammates performed. He agrees with Hazel's enthusiastic approbations and encouragements.

He takes special delight in the performances for the evening. Although, when he realizes that Flim was actually carrying through on his 'BadApples' theme, he coves his face with a hand for about a verse, and, through his peripheral vision, tries to gauge the reaction of that team. The crowd is mixed on it, certainly.

Shel's Reading
"Written by Kendry, not Flimsipold!" calls out Murphy to Mulberry as she identifies the song Shel is using for the interpretive reading. "The Song of the Sentinel Towers was written by my brother about six, seven years ago. Kendry Leafwin Pipewood." Kendry is pretty well known in Humble's Ford, as it was just a bit over a month ago he left there to marry.

Murphy joins in with the merry making, and takes a bit of time to catch up if he can with his acquaintances from the Culverwood.

Eral loves all the songs and dances and spends most of the night on his feet cheering for his team mates.

"Well Done you ladies and Hin. You were amazing. Congratulations to the rest of the team as well."

Eral will avoid taking too many drinks because the pie from earlier is not sitting well in his stomach and he doesn't want to be slow in the morning. Once the merry making dies down he will try and gather the team before bed and discuss what tomorrow might hold.

"Well, Does anyone know what to expect for tomorrow? I would bring all your gear because I think it might be another adventure."

"Well, I can bring my dagger, but if it comes down to me using it for more than to cut a sausage, we are all in trouble, I'm afraid. Who knows what sort of competition they might come up with? It might be some sort of battle royale for all we know. I hope that isn't the case. A few of those Apples looked pretty tough. They probably want to hit Him Billy more than the rest of us though," Shel smirks, remembering a few of the particularly juicy lines from the ode to the Apples earlier.

Hazel: 17/13/15 - CMD:14 - HP:13/13 (Corsario)
Thursday September 5th, 2013 12:39:14 PM

Hazel feels very happy at Alouryn coming to talk to him.
"I think you danced better than anyone else. I guess the judges gave the 1st place to her so they didn't feel that bad that they lost in the other competitions. Thanks, but Faoil did all the 'Heavy Lifting', if you catch my meaning. I don't know what will be tomorrow's competition, but I am sure we will win."
In a lull in the festivities Hazel will go to Candy BadApple and invite her to dance again, with a charming smile:
"Can I ask for a dance? I promise I will try not to trip."

Alouryn invites all the performers up on stage for a final joint dance along with others and soon everyone is dancing with the exceptions of a few that choose not to like Odo and Flimsibold, and while Candy scowls mightily at Hazel when he asks her to dance, she doesn't say no and joins him on the for for a song or two.

Sort conversations are had as wondering what to expect on the morrow, but all they know is that they are to be at Humble's Field again in the morning, half an hour after sunup.

The party goes on for a couple of hours but the members of the Swords and the BadApples know that the morning will come early so they cut out for some well earned and needed sleep, leaving the rest of the town to party long into the morning.

The final morning finally arrives and the BadApples and the PCs arrive at the the field for the final competition. Surprisingly there are quite a number of townsfolk already there and seated on bleachers along the sides of the field, which has undergon an amazing transformation overnight. The mayor congratulates both teams, though it is obvious that congratulating the BadApples leaves a sour taste in his mouth. The mayor stands up behind the podium and announces "OK ladies and gentlemen, the final competition in the Crescent Valley Competition is the "War Game!" He then continues to explain the rules of the "War Game." (Think paintball, capture the flag.)

Today's game will take place within the battlefield set up in the field. As you see that it has been set up with many obstacles, bushes, trees, "bunkers," and makeshift forts for cover.

You will each be allowed to tak in all of your equipment. However before you go in all weapons will be magiced so as not to cause harm but to leave colored paint markings to mark strikes. BadApples your strikes and spells will mark the Swords bright orange, while Swords yours will mark the badApples in bright yellow marks. When you reach the point where you would be considered dead your body will temporarily be paralyzed and you will feel very cold. The rules are simple, and go as follows...

Rule #1: Anything goes.

Rule #2: When you feel cold and are paralyzed you will be removed from the field and un paralyzed.

Rule #3: You may not leave the confines of the field of combat unless you are deemed dead. If you do you will be disqualified.

Rule #4: Healing spells will work similarly hear as they would in a real combat!"

Rule #5: The first team to capture their opponent's pennant will be declared the winner.

Our judges will be over at the "War Game" tent in five minutes, and and you will find out which end of the field you will be defending. The Game will begin shortly after that. I suggest you all get on over there, scout out the terrain a bit and make some plans. Have fun everyone, Good luck to you all!

"Here's one idea. If you all hold them off me for a few seconds, I can try to put one or two of them to sleep, and we could knock that particular Apple out of the contest with quickness before they even wake up. Also, I suppose instead, I could be the back line of defense, and if someone gets close to our flag, I could try and put them to sleep to recent them from taking it. I'm fine either way. Or if someone else has a better idea."

"I am not fast or stealthy but I can offer up a few spells that might be able to help people and I can take some hits. I'm thinking I might be best to take a mid field position and then move to wherever we might need help." Eral will go out and scout out the 06 and G4 area's thinking those two positions will offer the best vantage point to catch people coming in and to help those trying to get the flag. "If we need a distraction I could also go on the offensive while someone else sneaks around the edge. Edric and myself could stay up for a while even against multiple people while someone tries to sneak around.

"So... offensive or defensive? We can try and attack over one of the sides of the field, and get their "fort" from the side or back, surrounding them. Or we can go on the defensive, picking them up from the distance, taking cover and falling back towards out own fort."

Alouryn AC: 16/14/13 HP: 8/8 (Vaughn)

"I can do a lot of healing but i will be healing anyone close even the bad apples. Also let me bless everyone at the start. Lastly i can disarm and trip opponents from a 15' distance with my whip but it isnt designed to hurt anyone. Maybe I should stay near the fort too?"

Friday September 6th, 2013 8:29:28 PM

"The more I think about it, the more I think I like the plan of us going heavily on the defensive to start. Those mean ole Apples will no doubt come out hard and fast. If we hold a good defensive position, we might be able to pick them off and prepare to counter based off that."

Hazel: 17/13/15 - CMD:14 - HP:13/13 (Corsario)
Friday September 6th, 2013 9:54:13 PM

"Right! We set up a defensive perimeter, let them come at us, picking them up from a distance, flling back towards the fort little by little, and when they are weak we go to the offensive."

Shel Breezelee Kromnite (Gerald) HP8/8; AC 14/14/11
Friday September 6th, 2013 10:50:43 PM

"How about the ones who are good at spotting stay toward the front, so they can warn the rest of us where the trouble's comng from? Like I said, I think I'm best used hiding near the goal, so I can try a Sleep spell as a last line of defense, if one of them is ready to get our flag. Any other ideas?"

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood Scanning the field (Kim McCoy)
Saturday September 7th, 2013 12:03:37 AM

"Quick, run in lines back and forth, scan the grounds, see what is there." Murphy says. "What kinds of stones, what kinds of plant growth, shrubberies? Are there dips, rises? In as straight a line as you can, cross the field from one side to the other, see what you see." (perhaps make 4 spot checks each) He asks Hazel to start at a point on the left between 2 and 3 on the map; Alouryn 4/5; Zylo 6/7; Flimsipold 8/9; Edric 10/11. On the adjacent side, bottom of the map, Shel[/b] should walk a path between C/D; Eral between I/J; Murphy will take between O/P; Odo between R/S.

"Go!" Murphy hopes he does not need to explain this will give them, collectively, a fairly complete quick knowledge of the entire playing field.

Zylo Runefaust HP 9/9 AC:17/15/13 (Darin William's PC, post by Kim McCoy)  d20+6=13 ; d3=2 ; d20+6=9 ; d20+6=7 ; d20+6=15 ; d20+6=12 ;
Saturday September 7th, 2013 12:15:27 AM

Zylo picks up on Murphy's idea. He gets to a place roughly between 6 and 7. He glances quickly into the protected area, jumps up the wall, and down again, looks on both sides of the next wall (A6), looks left and right and ahead as he walks forward, checking out the brown object (wood? wooden fence?) at L7, continues, glances at the greenery at N8, looks at the object at P5 and environs (log? -if so - hollow in center?), sees the wall at R7, and looks at the stones on the ground along the way.

Perception (not spot, Murphy!) (and an unwanted d3): 13, 9, 7, 15, 12.

Murphy goes to a place at about O/P12, and walks to the other side of the field. He looks at what materials the various obstacles consist of. If the brown rectangle at O/P5 can be climbed up on, he does so - but if it is a bush or hedge, he goes around, looking inside at the about the middle. He continues. Then he goes to examine the U-shaped object and gravel (or whatever it is) found in the U and near it.

Perception: 17, 18, 26, 28, 18

As people head toward the judges, he says, "We need both. They'll use offense and defense. I'll entangle to cut off one line of approach. I can include some of us in a message spell, we can whisper to each other."

"Odo. At one point I will shoot an opponent with a slingshot - but no stone will come out. It will daze that person. Knock him or her out when I do it."

There isn't much more time than that to prepare.

With both teams checking out the field area there are a few times where people are bumping into each other and while the tempers don't flair you can tell there is no love lost between many of the members of each party.

Ok the field breakdown is a s follows:

The ground itself is firm no pitfalls there.

R/S 3/4 & C/D 6/7 are Bunkers built on top of some small raised earthen hills of roughly 10 feet. the walls are about 2 ft tall. [partial cover if standing from front]

R 9/10 J 4/5 Rock walls 2.5 ft tall [full cover from front]

O/P 4-6, H/G 10-11, M/N 11, G/H 4 double row hedges with a lengthwise passage 2 ft tall [partail cover from front]

N8, G/H 2, F 12, Q 1/2 thick bushes [full cover from front]

E 9/10, L7, N2, E/F 3 pits 2.5 ft deep sloped sides [partail cover from front at ground level]

K 2/3, B/C 10/11 brushpiles 1.5 ft tall [1/4 cover from front]

C 2/3, F 6, I 7/8 N 5/6, R/S 7, R 11/12 Wooden lattice walls 3 ft tall climbable can stand upon, [partial cover from front]

C 5, K 9 log pile 2 ft tall [partial cover from front]

Grey circular things large rocks [1/4 cover if prone and from ground level, otherwise no cover]

At the appointed time a whistle is blown and both groups leave the field of play and head over to the judges pavillion for final instructions.

Ok at the beginning all members of both teams must start out in their appointed bunker.

The game ends when:

1) All members of one team are incapacitated and no longer able to continue,
or
2) If the opponents flag is captured and returned to the other bunker.

Humble Swords as you won the individual competition you may choose the bunker you would like to defend.

You have 5 minutes to get to your bunker and finalize any plans you may need. When the whistle blow the war game begins.

Hazel: 17/13/15 - CMD:14 - HP:13/13 (Corsario)
Sunday September 8th, 2013 10:25:20 PM

Hazel makes a question to the judges:

"Do we need to start in the bunkers? Can we start on other place?"

After hearing the answer he moves towards the right bunker.

"This will be fun. The right bunker it is, then. First defensive, and if we see a chance for their flag, we take it."

If able he will try and start in the middle of the field, on N6, for example, taking cover.

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood I walk the line (Kim McCoy)
Monday September 9th, 2013 6:00:18 AM

Murphy gathers everyone together within the confines of the enclosure, and suggests most kneel down, with one or two keeping an eye out toward the BadApples' enclosure

"Good call on the bunker, Flim, Odo, Eral." The young druid hands some 'opera' glasses to whoever wants to use them. "See if you can see them talking, or gesturing." [Note: These are opera glasses which provide 5x magnification. They also will leave black circles around the eyes of the person using them - which Murphy neglected to mention. Suggestion: Roll Perception +5 for discerning what may be going on at our opponents' bunker - Kent may modify modification]

Suggesting a different approach, Murphy says, "No, not first defensive. First offensive. And defensive. And diversive. I mean diverting. We need to knock them off balance from the start.

Murphy gives Zylo a ghillie suit*. "Your job is to be as sneaky as possible. Put this on. It's yours now." [Helps stealth by +2 - see bottom of post for details]

"At the moment the whistle blows I will cast entangle to take in an area centered almost right in front of their bunker, forty feet out in a circle centered on that point.

"Then if anyone has some, sling thunderstones at them. If some are deafened, that will slow them up some, and make it harder for them to cast spells. A few tanglefoot bags would be lovely, too, then or later.

"I next can excavate right behind and a bit underneath the rock wall (R 9/10). Does anyone have a piece of cloth roughly the same color as the flag? And we'll need a stick or a staff to tie it to. We bury that in the hole, then a few of you need to work to cover it up with the dirt at the sides, with stones, with whatever. We want them to think we are burying the flag. Protect that hole, and their attention will go there.

"So, right away, several of us need to go on offense, getting close enough to rain missiles and spells upon them. A few of them likely will be able to move out of the area, some will be stuck for a while." He addresses Shel and Alouryn. "Remember, no one will be harmed overmuch, the weapons are abated, and this is a game to win."

"All of us should by now have had our weapons coated with that... whatever it is - arrows, daggers, swords, staffs, and the like. Who can shoot arrows? Crossbow bolts? Who can sling? Each one we knock out makes it that much easier to get their flag.

"Zylo, early on - you'll take the real flag and hide it within the double row hedges nearby. Should we use the nearby one (O/P 4-6), or the one [i](down by M/N 11)? Put it down low, cover it over with sticks, debris. Does someone have a cloak we can wrap the flag part in? What if we remove the flag banner, and someone hides that under their clothes, and we hide the pole elsewhere? They said, 'anything goes.' They would need to get BOTH of them together to win."

"I will cast an excavate spell after the entangle over behind the rock wall (at R 9/10). It opens a big hole in the ground, and I think I can place it so that the rock wall may fall back into it, by undercutting it a ways.

"Also, we need to wrap another false flag in a blanket - and keep it here in the enclosure.

"What other spells can we use? Can someone cast obscuring mist? Make them lose their line of sight to our enclosure - maybe also to the brambled area that Zylo will use, and to the excavated hole. I can cast one of those."

"Flimsipold - No doubt you can inspire us to heightened performance through your bardic talents. You also know, what, two spells? Anything we should know - quietly before we start?" he asks.

"I need at least three to go on the offensive to try to wear them down, and take their flag. Who volunteers? I'll stay in the vicinity of the flags so I can watch what's going on, and take appropriate action."

"Other spell casters - What spells, ideas, suggestions?"[/b] He looks around to his friends. "If you have another suggestion on the flag placement and protection, speak quickly."

(50gp, 1lb)" Murphy is giving it permanently to Zylo. It should hold together until July 20, 2014, per lotto rules. Will give Zylo stealth 11+2=13.

Request to Kent: It would be good if we could have at least until Tuesday's post before the game begins, with tonight's post to wrap up, clarify whatever may need it. Absolutely your call, though! -Kim

Monday September 9th, 2013 6:37:06 AM

"I volunteer to head out to help take their flag. Great idea on hiding the flag, there were no rules against it. I will cast Bless and and a few other spells on the offensive group when we get closer" Eral looks around for more volunteers to go with him.

Odo Barfoot HP: 11/11, AC: 19/16/14 (Matthew)
Monday September 9th, 2013 6:36:38 PM

"I'd rather stay back and defend if I can, try to keep 'em back with Pebbledasher or my swords if they come close."

If no one argues against his suggestion, Odo will try to find a good spot near the bunker where he might be able to sling stones from (possibly the bushes at Q1/2).

OOC: Catalin mentioned that he might be having a bit of internet trouble, and so MIGHT be unable to post temporarily.

Alouryn AC: 16/14/13 HP: 8/8 (Vaughn)
Monday September 9th, 2013 7:29:25 PM

Alouryn will let the warriors determine the strategies as she has no knowledge of such things. She will get ready to cast Bless and wait to get trip and disarm oppies with her 15' reach whip

The decision seems to be that the Sowrds choose to take the eastern bunker (the one in the right corner of the map) as their base and as soon as they make that decision, their flag is suddenly flying high from a pole rising out of one corners of the bunker.

Hazel's question is answered quite firmly that ALL competitiors must start out in their respective bunker.

There is a bit of strategy discussed and a few things handed out.

There is some sort of to do over at the badApples end but nothing clear can be seen, though there flag is now flying high above there bunker as well.

The last 5 minutes of the preparation time passes quickly and suddenly the whistle is shilly blowing. The Wargames have begun.

Remember the squares are 10 ft not 5 foot

[DM Kent: This was all written before you posted, and I thought I had posted it (after Eral's post above), but then found it sitting here. I copied the text, refreshed, then saw you had posted.]

So, Zylo looks over the ghillie suit just handed him. He shrugs his shoulders and puts it on. "Nice." On hearing he is supposed to take the flag over to the hedge, he pulls out his brown bedroll from his backpack, and slices it lengthwise, up until about five inches from the end, so that he effectively nearly doubles the length of the bedroll, the better to wrap around a greater length of flagpole.

He peaks around the corner, head down low, at the hedge he is supposed to place the flag in, calculating the best spot to place it. Once the whistle blows, he will work with someone else to get the flag down (after Murphy casts his spell), breaks off the pole so that it's only about 4 or 5 feet from the top of the flag to the bottom of the pole, wraps in the bedroll, then, using stealth, and crawling, rolling along the ground (27: 11+2(ghillie suit)+2(circumstantial for low angle, line-of-sight blocking obstacles), goes to stash it in the hedge.

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood Whistle? Entangle! HP 9/9 AC:15/13/13 (Kim McCoy)
Tuesday September 10th, 2013 1:03:02 AM

Murphy casts entangle, centered at D/E 6/7. The area of effect can be seen in this map Humble field 1-Entangle D-E,6-7 40' radius 20130909. [What is in 'real life' a circle appears as an oval on the map, due to the differences in length of squares along X and Y axes.]

Murphy asks, "Thunderstones? Send 'em in if you've got 'em." Then, in an intense whisper - "Hazel, Shel, Odo, Flim, Edric[b] offensive team - [b]Hazel - go weaken them where they're stuck now. Shel - provide healing & other support as able. Eral - Bless us all, then take the offensive. Flim - Use your shortbow, pepper them with arrows, and fluster them with rhymes. Edric - sling their noggins, or whatever else needs doin'. Everyone - watch your noggins."

He drops his whisper, "Now, RUN!"

Continuing to whisper, he says, "Flag team - Odo - help Zylo break the flagpole, then take the lower part of the pole - cover the non-broken end so people can't see it, and bring it over to the stone wall (R9). Sneak with me. We'll bury it under stone and dirt. Then you can start slingin stones, or whatever is needed at that time."

If needed, he helps Odo and Zylo break the pole - by using his sickle, if needed.

He lifts the flag out of the socket, brings it down, and works with Odo - likely the strongest of the three - to get the pole cut or broken in half.

Once broken and wrapped, Zylo goes in to the end of the hedge at a point at the left side of P, middle of 4 on the map, entering on hands (first touching down within the hedge) and feet, crawling to the middle, and finding a good place to hide the flag. Stealth 16, Perception 20

Tuesday September 10th, 2013 4:39:47 AM

As they struggle with the flagpole, Murphy asks Alouryn, "Would you mind going to about the middle of the side over there," and he points near the hedge at M-11, "and cracking your whip to make some noise? In a short time I want them looking in that general direction. After that, do whatever you think needs doin'!!"

Ready with his war hammer when needed. Eral tells Alouryn he will be casting Shield of Faith and Magic Weapon on himself once the larger group of BadApples starts getting closer. (OOC everyone should take 400 Experience points for the Individual events.)

(OOC 2: Spell lists with current speels had best be posted where I can access them for if I check and your spell is not listed it will not go off.)

(OOC 3: Ok all I am being a bit lenient here in that I am allowing some extra movement but unless you specify you are taking extra movement you can only move 1 and 1/2 square (which is 15 feet) each square is a 10 ft square as mentioned twice now.)

(OOC 4: Please make sure you post any Spell DCs and if you move where you are moving to)

*****************************

At the whistle there is a flurry of movement from both teams as things are being done and people start moving out.

Zylo and Odo make a quick move to bring down the flag pack it in Zylo's cut up bed roll and make a move out of the bunker. It is on a 8 foot pole of which they manage to break off about half of it.

Moving as much as he can, Zylo makes it to the back of the hedge but can not yet crawl to the side and get in.

Murphy cast his spell and then helps with the flag and grass and hedges in the are begin thashing around.

Flim and Alouryn sprint southward and find an are where they have some protection, as do Hazel and Shel. Haxel needs to make a Will save Dc 15

Eral casts his spell and hunkers down in the bunker.

Odo and Edric make short moves to their spot of shelter and ready their slings.

***********************

The BadApples move out as the whistle blows, most of them sprinting to the sides and forward moving to shelter as fast as they can.

A couple of the BadApples seem to be in the area of effect for the entangle though you can't be sure how many, though you can see Lotho moving through it like it is no problem

At this moment they apper to not be taking any offensive actions.

Ok Round 1 of combat (wargame) now begins.

Yes, there is some leniency about our movement speed, "CA" (guess Candy BadApple) moved at least 60'...

Kent: full rum movement for a 15' movement PC is 60 feet not to mention if there was any magic involved so please refrain from being so critical, as few to none of you specified anything about how you were moving.

OOC: My point being if the NPC's move that much there is not that much leniency in our case...

Hazel worries seeing that all the BadApples escaped Murphy's entanglement, and the speed they are moving. He realizes the only way to slow them out will be so make them redirect them, by sacrificing himself.

"Murphy! Drop the entanglement!" - he screams while continuing his mad dash into No-man's land!

The continues running in the middle of the field, as fast as he is able...

OOC: I think he can reach the Upper Right corner of I8, with his 80' running speed

Hazel moves very quickly to the center of the field yelling for Murphy to drop his spell,

Edric too moves forward a bit to better shelter.

Eral loads his cross bow and waits for a BadApple to show himself.

Zylo crawls into the hedge with his package.

Candy (her haste spell gone) sees Hazel and moves toward him sword drawn.

Crystal, Pearl and OdB all moves forward, Pearl still moving faster than what seems to be normal.

Lotho suddenly finds himself stuck in the edge of the weeds.

OOC: apologies about yesterday. I forgot to post...no excuses. My bad, and I hope that doesn't happen again.

Shel continues to crouch down in her current spot. She knew she'd be easy pickings for the Apples, so she decided to focus on defense for the team. She was trying to wait another few seconds, hoping a couple members of the Apples would group together and be easy pickings for her spell.

Hazel: 17/13/15 - CMD:14 - HP:13/13 (Corsario)
Thursday September 12th, 2013 2:52:20 PM

Hazel continues his mad dash for the BadApple's flag passing on the bottom part of the obstacle (to avoid Candy) and the dashing towards the fort, as fast as he can, hoping Murphy drop the entangle before he enters the area of effect.
OOC: It depends on several things... Is the entangle dropped? Do he provokes AoO? In any case, the intention is to run as close to the BadApple's flag as much as possible, with his 20' speed and 80' running speed, entering the entanglement Zone if needed, and provoking AoO if somebody is on the way. Beeline is the word here.

Now inside the hedge, Zylo quietly (stealth 25) and carefully (disable device 24 - closest I can figure for this task - same adjustment if sleight of hand would be better) hides his bundle midway through along the side closer to line P, down low.

Then, he goes to the edge he came in on, watches and listens, taking advantage of his ghillie suit to blend in, with rapier and dagger at the ready, but held out of sight.

Murphy Bumblebee Leafwin Pipewood HP 9/9 AC:15/13/13 (Kim McCoy) (link has updated character sheet)
Thursday September 12th, 2013 11:13:20 PM

Murphy, overcome by the shock that the spell he cast, which should have caught all or most of their opponents, was nearly totally eluded. The only conclusion he can come to is that:

A. They dimension doored out of the bunker. As he knows that dimension door is a pretty powerful spell, if this is the explanation, they have to have a ringer or two on the team ... which may or may not constitute cheating; or
B. They cheated, using illusory magic to make it look like they were still in the bunker when the whistle blew, but instead were really moving out a round or two before the whistle blew; or
C. They were all capable of bilocation; or
D. Some other explanation the druid cannot yet fathom, but which he is nearly certain could be considered a violation of the rules - that all must be in the bunker at the blowing of the whistle.

Some are, or were, hasted.

As they have a well-established reputation for cheating, yet have somehow managed to get this far in the games without having been caught at it, Murphy decides that they waited until this final event to pull out the stops. Realizing that he lacks full proof of it, but the evidence points in the direction of their breaking the rules, he decides to voice his suspicions in the accusatory case, so that all can hear.

"They CHEATED! The BadApples cheated again! Play on, friends, but let the judges beware!"

He runs flat out with the flagpole, the unbroken end on his left side, so that the banner - or lack thereof - cannot be discerned from afar, but the pole is visible behind him, directly toward S9.
