Anna reverts back to her normal form as she cannot speak in other forms yet.

"We were also thinking we could potentially help repair the damage done to the village before we head back. The Fist is more than just a bunch of mercenaries. We are a force for good in this Wold and we would like to do what we can to atone for the past behavior of some of our number." she says to the Malister.

Of course, while we expect no payment, nor do we desire any. It would be a benefit to us if you could mention our deeds to your Magistrate when it comes up, The Danegeld we must pay is burdensome, and the more good deeds we have on our side when accounts come up, the better. Now kind sir, if you could point me to a place where I can get a bath and a bed, I would be in your debt...I am weary to my bones, covered with giant octopus slime and Undead filth...I am truly not fit for the company of decent folk at this point.

Pru smiles. "We were successful, yes. I think, though, that everybody in town should be cautious for the next few days. We're pretty sure we got all the mercenaries, but I don't think we ever got an accurate count, so there could still be some at large. Although if there are, they would probably run away from here."

Nikolai greets the Malister. "Greetings. Seems like only yesterday great DOOM was hanging over this village. We are glad to announce that Cybrene, the orchestrater of your problems is no more. Her demise should put an ending chapter to her story and influence over your village.

Just to make sure no wandering bandits give you any more problem, we decided it would be best to stay here a few days and even help rebuild. If no further problems arise, we'll consider our contract to deal with the bandits in this area accomplished.

In the meantime, is there a cabin we could rest in?"

Luckily, the was not too much damage to the town, as it was being used as a staging area for the bandits, and they preferred a roof over their heads. The boathouse is singed badly, and has a rather large hole in the side. The Malister offers it to the Agents as a place to camp that is big enough to hold them all together. It may even be cozy once that hole is patched up! The Agents find that their wagon is already put away inside, with the heaps of armor and weapons seemingly untouched. The little wagon can barely hold it all, once their newest haul is piled on top.

Alternatively, the inn has rooms available, as well as bathing areas. Michael is quick to accept that offer, as he is more grime covered than anyone else.

Some of the villagers are surprised to hear that there was such a creature within walking distance of their little town, but they are more than happy to be rid of it and get back to their lives. There certainly won't be any townsfolk here that will say an ill word about the Agents and the Fist. A modest feast, largely consisting of roots and fish, is prepared for all. It's humble food, but warm and filling, and the Agents are celebrated as heroes, and promised that they will be reported as such when the next patrol from Ailthmar comes through Cove.

Tinker considers the sweat, dirt, and blood that is on him and his clothes from the town fight, compounded with getting wet, octopus slime, and pieces of undead... The dwarf joins Michael in the baths! Followed by clothes through the laundry and equipment cleaned and field-patched, it pretty much takes the rest of the day!

"Do these villagers need any of the weapons or armor we've collected? Not like the Fist needs yet another bow."

"I'd be okay with one of the composite bows actually." Anna says, "I am stronger now and could probably take advantage of one in certain situations. Especially since I don't really have a good range weapon."

"Are there separate baths for us girls or do I have to use my morphamancy to become a male for 5 minutes and take a quick bath?" Anna asks

She'll either use the separate bath or turn herself into male halfling to take a quick bath since she'll use less water and take less time to wash.

Nikolai laughs at Anna's possible solution to the bath situation.
"No Anna, you stay a woman just the way you are. Let those two take theirs, then you can take yours and take all the time you want. I don't ever want to have a picture of you as a male in my head!" and he laughs hard again.

For Nikolai, once he's set up in the boathouse he strips much of his clothing yet staying modest, and takes a swim in the ocean, enjoying the waves and even body surfing some.

Then, refreshed and salty-clean, he puts on a spare pair of pants to have his uniform washed and goes through their inventory of loot.

"Any of the mundane stuff we don't want we can leave here so as to lighten the load on our horse. We need some Detect Magic on the stuff too. The chain I'd like to keep for our trophy room. We can retell our stories by our trophies."

After the celebratory feast Nikolai thanks the Malister for everything and says they are glad they could help village by getting rid of the evil that was building up against it. He hopes that the word spread and bandits avoid the area from now on and they can have a long peaceful life.

Pru is a little ashamed that she is not covered with the dirt and gore of battle as her companions are. Her uniform is still pretty clean, and her hair still neatly braided. She joins Anna in bathing at the inn, but makes quick work of it before re-joining her companions.

Michael disrobes and with a bucket of water, soap and Oil gets his armor and gear cleaned and free of slime and undead funk. He then takes his bath and even manages to stay awake while soaking in the warm soapy water. He talks with tinker about small things and gets himself so clean he squeaks. He manages to make it through seveal plates of really excellent baked fish with potatos au gratin' and homemade cheddar cheese. and a surprisingly spicy and hearty Turtle soup with hard rye bread. His belly filled, he sets back to listen to the conversation and promptly falls asleep.

In his dreams he's standing in formation, his friends arrayed beside him, the line of men extend to the horizon on either side. Commander Palance is riding Ronin in full battle kit, if death incarnate was a woman and beautiful it would be Constance Palance. There is a feeling of being strong, unbeatable and of one mind. The battlefield in front is dark and forboding but we are ready for it. She raises her lance, bugles, bagpipes and drums sound. She points to the darksness and we as one draw our swords and move forward...it's heaven...or the closest Michael has ever been to heaven. He smiles in his sleep.

Trayvin waits for everyone else to finish and then washes up. After he is cleaned up and has eaten he takes a walk around the town, looking for any potential areas the Agents can help with repairs before their departure. It felt like a job well done.

People are cleaned and fed and entertained in no particular order. Life seems back to normal in this little town.

After the celebration dies down, they get down to business and sort the booty. It's amazing that no one had noticed the superb quality of these items before, but when Pru scans the pile with magical eyes, she is momentarily dazzled by the glow coming from them. (using potion rolls for items in order of the list)

Michael awakes in the morning feeling better, but still tired and sore. He goes and helps pru identify the items they got off the bandits. "Whistle" boy, these guys were loaded for bear, weren't they? I wonder if they used the money in the cavern to purchase all this stuff...maybe we should subpoena the Catacombs for access to their books to see who bought all this? Michael chuckles at that imagining the dour and meticulous Dhampir's discomfort at letting a bunch of adventurers behind the counter.

Anna grabs a scroll of CL 2 detect magic from her messenger bag and casts it (UMD: 25 vs 22) (OOC: 20 rounds enough time to attempt to identify everything)

She then starts examining the magic items laid out. (Spellcraft: 27, 10, 27, 15, 22, 23, 13, 27, 15, 11, 9, 22, 17, 18, 18, 23, 25)

She identifies: Cloak, 2 of the halberds, chain shirt, 1 breastplate, 2 great swords and 2 of the bows.

She also tries to perceive what the potions are (17, 26)

She tells her companions what she has discovered.

Nikolai awakens to find his friends fussing over the equipment they found. Some are magical, some mundane. He knows nothing of identifying magic so stays out of their way. He goes to the stonemason and requisitions a large stone plaque with a brief statement, "Gargul sits over you in Judgment, ye Pirates of the Ghost Cybrene, You chose to follow Evil, but The Mailed Fist proved the greater."

He also has the Mailed Fist, Wolf Regiment emblem carved on the slab of stone and requests the stone be placed over the spot the bandit remains were buried.

Pru sighs a little. "Sorry I couldn't be of more help," she says. She did pay attention in her magic classes, but she's just not as smart as other spellcasters and sometimes she has trouble remembering her lessons.

Michael gives Pru a hug.
We all have out strengths and weaknesses Miss Gundle, you blow things up and can reach things off high ledges.
Tinker picks locks and is a really good damage sponge,
Trayvin heals folks and can reach things on higher ledges,
Anna can turn herself into lots of neat things and can probably reach the highest ledges of all!
Nikolai, well he punches harder than anybody I've ever seen and looks good with his shirt off.
and well I'm sorta stabbity stab, stab on the baddies who are bad bad and I can walk under human tables without bumping my head!
We like folks for their skills and abilities but we love them for their struggles and vertical advantages.
...could you hand me that container of oil on that shelf over there, I wanna polish some of the grime off this breastplate and see if I can find a makers mark?

Michael's Keen senses easily identify the potions, and Anna manages to discern the properties of most of the rest. Some aren't immediately apparent, but are similar enough to their partners that she can safely assume they are the same level of power.

Only the spiked chain seems to elude identification. Pru feels a little disappointed in herself that she is not better at identifying things. Michael points out that she should be proud of her strengths, her marvelous displays of power, her courageous leadership, and her natural charm, rather than get down on herself for her shortcomings. Tinker backs this up, proud of the high marks he got in his "Standing in Front of Other People 101" Class.

Nikolai finds a local mason, who seems happy to take on the work, and even offers a substantial discount, though Nikolai have to trust that it will be erected in the proper spot, as finding the right block of stone and doing the carving will take some time. He gets all the details of Nikolai's request, proofs the script, and then sets off towards the cliff to chisel out an appropriately sized block. A block with straight sides and writing set into the ground will cost 10 gold - larger pieces and fancier designs will take longer and be more costly.

Otherwise, things seem settled in town, the depredations of the last few days almost forgotten, since very little real harm was actually done, thanks to the quick work of the Agents. A five day journey back towards the Citadel awaits them at their leisure.

The dwarf doesn't claim any of the equipment, allowing his share to come from the cash in. He's going to need it for the training back at the Citadel.

And Tinker is happy to have a leisurely trip back to the Citadel, but doesn't trust the road like friendly territories. He keepers a watchful eye on the backtrack the whole trip back.

OOC: I missed where the potions were identified. What were they?

Nikolai could use the ring, the cloak, and one of the composite longbows. He would hate to show up at home without his dad's graduation present, his own magic cloak, so he passes on the magic cloak for now. The ring might be more useful to Pru or Anna. The longbow certainly has more utility than his crossbow, so he chooses one of the magic composite longbows, finding that his strength is quite sufficient for the pull.

He takes a look at the spiked chain and wonders what its magic is. He remembers the Flind Bar they have back home and how he had always wanted to learn how to use it but just never had the time. This chain certainly had a mystic about it but he knew that in the end, he'd never really spend the time necessary to learn how to use it without hurting himself or his friends.

Nikolai hands over ten gold pieces for the stone epitaph celebrating their victory over Cybrene. Not only would the village's story of the pirate be amended by the recent events, a permanent marker with the Mailed Fist's involvement would help prevent any distortion in that matter of the story over time.

When they are ready for the trip back home, Nikolai gathers up some fresh fruit and bread for the trip back, thanks the villagers for their hospitality, and takes the lead as they point their wagon homeward.

the potions smell like ?

Michael thanks the folk for the hospitality, makes sure that the wagon load is well secured and saddles up. he goes into watchful mode and scans the surroundings for signs of trouble.

Don't know Trayvin, I know I'd sure like to go after those griffons...but we go where we are told, How you getting along big man?

When they camp for the night he asks Trayvin if he can help him get his strenght back and also help with this burn on his throat where the Antipalidin grabbed him.

"I already have one of those rings," Pru says. "One of the cloaks might be useful, but the rest of that stuff does me no good."

If she can, Pru will try again to identify some of the things that haven't been identified yet, using Detect Magic and what she remembers of spell craft.

Well I don't know about y'all but that silver hilted rapier is calling my name. I also may get that Masterwork short sword, it's pretty sweet. That enchanted chain shirt would be nice if it were Mithril, but it would constrict my movements too much as is. I may get my shirt enchanted. Hey if we got some time lets run by wedding city and get that lil' guy his choclate, then I could get a grass breastplate. when I learn how to use medium armor I could get it encanted and wind up with a really nice set up...good protection and freedom of movement. I feel kind of bad, he's over there weveing tapistry, with no choclate...it's sad really.

Tinker drives the wagon as the group travels to the Citadel. It was a good set of deeds they did, he thinks with satisfaction on his face. The conversation recalling combats and what they could do with the treasure and more homey things passes the time. The rhythmic clip of hooves and jingle of harness and that squeaky wheel no matter how much grease...

The Agents are pleased with their work, glad that things are getting back to normal for Cove. They begin the journey back to the Citadel with their heads held high. It is a less strenuous journey back, without the threat of a time sensitive mission looming, and they take their time to enjoy the towns they had to rush through on the way back.

On the way back, they are discussing options for the next mission, if Palance doesn't have something urgent that only the Agents can handle. They will find out when they report and debrief. And before they know it, they are pulling up to the gates of the Citadel, bundles of weapons and armor in tow, ready to be sold into the Fist's coffers and distributed to do the most good.

Not long after washing the dust of the road off of themselves, Thogo the page knocks and enters the main chamber of their suite. The Knight Commander is ready for you. You are to report for your debriefing at the next bell.

Tinker is happy to be home and quickly gets cleaned and dressed to get to the Knight Commander's office. He nearly goes back to their old barracks before he remembers the Agents have a suite of rooms in the Commanders Tower itself!

Coming out of the bath, vigorously rubbing his reddish-brown hair, beard, chest, back.... "This is still strange!"

He waits in their common room until everyone is ready and marches with the others to the meeting.

As usual, he lets Nikolai and the others talk, preferring to be quiet.

Nikolai is tempted to sit back and relax on their way back but good training keeps him and his friends on their toes. Nothing untoward happens though, perhaps word of bandit hunters has spread and any bandits or wanna-bees are in hiding.

Rolling into the Citadel, his first order of business was to get the horses to the stables and carry their aquired gear up to their rooms. Like Tinker, Nikolai feels sort of out of place in their new quarters. He's not been in them long enough yet to have it feel like home.

Cleaned, if not rested, Nikolai makes sure everyone knows of their appointment with their new Knight Commander and reviews his notes on their mission while waiting for the next bell.

Michael drops off his mule and takes care of any logistical or administrative tasks that need to be done, He then drops his gear off at his room, checks to make sure that everything is still in place, then grabs his toiletries and hits the baths, he has 5 days of road dust to wash off. On his way, he gets word that the Commander wants to see them at the next bell.. ah well, no long soak for me todayhe thinks. He gets a quick bath and spends a bit more time making sure his appearance is tight. He goes back to his room and thinks about what to wear. Eventually deciding on his clean black field leathers. it's a look that says "I'm not a slob, I'm here to work, and I'm dangerous." He scowles at the mirror, doing his best to look tough, then sticks his tongue out and crosses his eyes... he cracks himself up over that. Once his laughter dies down, he looks in the mirror once again, face calm and centered. it's a good face, a few scars, faint lines from magical healing barely visible, still young. but his eyes, they look through things, like he's looking at something far away. He does not remember having that kind of stare before...where did it come from? He thinks about all the folk, monsters and undead he has killed, how many times he's faced his own death, and he knows. his soul is not looking at this world, it's looking for the next. He chuckles at that. he's been living on borrowed time since he was born, if the end comes tomorrow, he will have lived more life than most folk. it's good.

Dressed and ready he arrives at the Commanders door a few minutes before the bell, he stands at ease and waits.

Anna takes time to take another bath when she gets back to the citadel. She then spends time polishing her mithril full plate so that it is nice and shiny when she meets with Constance. She considers turning herself into Constance's doppleganger prior to the meeting but thinks it may just cause unnecessary confusion. She really wants to try that trick in battle at some point to confuse the enemy as to which person really is their leader.

While waiting to see Constance, Michael gets to thinking...

Hey Anna, are any of your other forms so comfortable that you wanna stay as them? Is the form you are in now your original form? Can you do things like, grow 6 inches taller, gain 40lbs or change your eye color but still stay "you"? Can you change your voice? Man that would be neat...you could have like the best singing voice in the world! nine octaves of range and full power through every register! That's got to be the coolest power in the world!
