"Nikolai has done something like that when we were fighting gnolls near the village of Hornfowl. Nikko had a necklace of fireballs and threw one at the group of gnolls surrounding me. And I dodged around one gnoll and didn't even get singed ". Tinker smiles thinking of the good memories.

"Well, you said 'don't mind me', and you'd probably gotten chopped up by the gnoll anyway," Nikolai laughs.

"Just let us know when it's time to duck. I'm not too good at dodging that kind of stuff."

"My abilities have changed a lot between the time prior to our battle and the time after our battle. I can't wait to try them in battle. True I have lost some things, like my knowledge of the druidic and elemental languages, but I gained much in other ways." Anna says

"Oh, I can cast Protection from Fire, too," Pru says. "I don't need it, though; I'm developing a natural resistance. And I'm not going to fireball my team--don't worry!"

The Agents enjoy a nice breakfast and pleasant chatter with each other, and theorize about new abilities and hair colours. Nikolai jokes that Pru may not know her own strength, and thinks about getting a group tattoo done in case she gets a little overzealous. Come to think of it, he did see a few good parlours in Wedding City, and they still have a date in the plains with an old man and some chocolate...

"I don't really think I need that armor anymore seeing as I can use mithril now, but I will gladly accompany you guys to Wedding City and beyond." Anna says to her fellow agents as she chews on another piece of bacon.

Tinker thinks of the little Manfri whistle, and the promise of the rewards for the chocolate. Then the dwarf frowns. He doesn't have two coppers to rub together, let alone the amount necessary to buy the necessary chocolate. The dwarf sighs and takes another drink of shandy.

I'm cash flush right now, the only thing I think I could use is a breast plate, I'd have to train on using it though. I was actually thinking of getting Pru a long spear made of the stuff, it's lighter so she'd have a better time carrying it.

Michael notices Tinker's frown, and realizes that he didn't get as much of a share as the rest with all the loot he aquired.

What were you thinking of getting from the Manfri Tinker? I'd be glad to float you a loan for the stuff if everybody wanted to go.

"What happened with the Manfri? That happened before I joined up with you."

It occurs to Nikolai that, in order to get that very special item from the Manfri, they'll all have to save up a good bit. In doing so, they keep stalling and stalling and stalling.

"I'm afraid that we'll keep waiting for that perfect moment when we have enough money to make it worthwhile our visit to that strange place that we are in danger of never going," he says with a disappointed look.

Prudence Gundle

Pru shrugs. "I don't really need a lighter spear," she says. "Trayvin can have my item; I'm sure he can make better use of it."

[OOC: without a heavier longspear, I'm not sure how I'll role-play Pru's low Strength score, LOL.]

Anna Morphling (Hugh C) -- AC 22/13/19 - HP 49/49 -- CMD 15

Anna says, "I have a decent amount of money myself now and will gladly loan it to another in our company. I personally am saving to get a costly enchantment placed on my armor so that as I grow as a morphling I will one day be able to shift the armor with me. I would like to still keep some on hand to refill my bag of tricks as pulling scrolls and other items out of it causes the magic to run out and I have to recharge it with gold, but I should still have some left after floating someone a loan."

Yeah, I think we may just need to buy him some chocolates and get some trade items from him.

A few months before you and Anna joined our group, a strange puzzle was sent to the Citadel, it had a curse on it, it would not let you sleep till you had solved it. when we solved it, we were transported to the Sargrass plains, the green ocean, There was a Manfri there on a boat floating on the grass. He was the chronicler of the Manfri people, immortal, he weaved a tapestry of the lives and times of the Manfri people. He had a boon to ask of us. He wanted some Chocolate from Wedding City, said it was the best he had ever had. said he would make us a steelgrass item for it. Steelgrass, when treated by a process, is as strong as steel and 1/4 the weight. We have been so busy of late, ain't had time to go. or the money either.

"And that's the key. Money. We get only one chance to visit the Chronicler and we want to make it worth it. We want as much chocolate as we can possibly carry." Nikolai finishes.

"I have several thousand gold i could lend to the cause. I think it will take a while to get the amount of gold I need to get someone at the catacombs to enchant my armor so I think between Michael and myself we may have 10,000 gold." Anna says.

Tinker grunts, pleased that the halfling and he understand each other so well. And the others too. The dwarf reflects on his friends;
Nikolai having to live up to a legacy and find his own way at the same time;
Prudence having been rejected by her original family and not fitting into the Fist at least at first;
Trayvin having to be wise and reflective in drastic opposition to what would be most people's first impression of the half-Orc;
Anna who is still trying to understand as her powers change nearly as fast as she can;
Michael, like Trayvin, not being anyone's first impression of how a halfling would behave;
And then there is Tinker, orphaned and brought up by gnomes, not knowing anything about dwarf family or history...

Sword-brothers and sisters. Yes, very fitting!

"Thank you Michael, I understand. So these items are pretty rare? You can't buy them at the Catacombs?"

Prudence Gundle
Monday April 25th, 2016 10:21:22 PM

"Yes," Pru answers Trayvin. "They are created from Steelgrass, which grows only on the Southern Continent. It is extremely difficult to get, and not generally available."

Nikolai (JonathanT) AC 17 Tch 17 Ffted 14 HP 53/53 CMD 26/28(Grapple)

"Not generally available and even if you came across enough to make something with it, it takes a master Steelgrass craftsman to do it. Not even elves have the skill to weave the steelgrass into anything without that special magical knowledge, and one can only get that knowledge from a near-mythical race of people that live on the Sargrass Plains on the Southern Continent.

My father was there, in the Southern Continent, for a short while, and heard some of those stories."

The Manfri are an interesting people, heck they make me feel tall! they seem to be really in tune with the Sargrass plains, I guess that's why they can weave Steelgrass.

The Agents enjoy a friendly breakfast for what seems like a long time. Sorry again! Had to light a couple fires. They spend the time getting to know each other better and planning how to make best use of their one trip to the plains. The good times can't last forever though, and as the last of the syrup is mopped up with some especially delicious bacon, Thogo the page comes to fetch them up to Knight Commander Palance's office for their assignment.

The Agents respond to Knight Commander Palance’s summons and report to her office. Her recent same cramped quarters, covered in papers, trinkets, weapons, and the souvenirs of a long life mercenary-ing are somewhat of a comfort, knowing that not everything in their lives has been turned topsy turvy.

”Welcome back, Agents. I’m glad you were able to start the rebuilding efforts. It does good for those people, and our reputation, and we sorely need the help right now. It is my job to restore the Mailed Fist’s good name. And if I’m to do that, I need your help.” Palance says this with deep conviction in her voice. It’s clear that she do all that is needed indeed to rebuild the Mailed Fist! She does seem to be quite nervous… perhaps because the Dragon Consortium that is looking over her shoulder to see how she’s holding up.

Not waiting for any reactions Palance continues: “As soon as I had word that you had disposed of Neutronis, I began correspondence with Ailthmar. I’ve offered them a limited amount of assignments free of charge, other than provisions, as a way to make reparations and prove that the real Fist does not stand with what Neutronis tried to do.”. She pauses a moment to see if the agents before her nod in agreement or shake heads… Not seeing any direct opposition she goes on, apparently pleased. ”So, as your next assignment, Ailthmar has requested that you investigate one of the small fishing communities to its north. They received a request for help from the community of ‘Cove’ concerning some bandits in the area and have sent a contingent of guardsmen over there to investigate. However it seems they have not heard from them since… We need you to go to the town and find out what happened to the squad and the town. Questions?”

Tinker sits straight and listens intently, only his fingers twitching, wishing for a lock to pick!

The dwarf doesn't need to speak, knowing they are going to take this job and will do a great job!

Michael looks down, pensive, thinks for a moment then looks up at his commander. He hates Ailthmar, it's an abomination in his eyes. He'd almost rather die than help them.

One of his old drill sergeants once said to him though Death is as light as a feather, but Duty's heavier than a mountain.

He nods his head.

Yes Commander, any idea of the size of the force we will be scouting? How big was the guard contingent that was sent to find them? With the paring down of the Fist, what are the odds that these bandits are expatriated Fist soldiers? and if they are, do we kill them for trying to survive or try to bring them back into the fold?

Trayvin AC 21/12touch Hp 59/59
Tuesday April 26th, 2016 9:17:52 PM

"This sounds like an excellent opportunity to help out Ailthmar, and work on our reputation at the same time. Are there any particular supplies we will need to complete the assignment? And are we reporting to Ailthmar authorities first, or should we proceed directly to Cove?"

Trayvin doubts there will be any dissenting votes on going, and he seems anxious to gather his gear and head out.

Prudence Gundle
Tuesday April 26th, 2016 10:31:45 PM

"Is there a map of the area?" Pru asks. "Is it best to approach Cove by land or by sea?"

His friends seem to have asked all the questions he was thinking of but he does really need to know who to report to.
"Who is our Official Alithmar Contact for this job? We need a formal contract written by you and signed by them when the job is done so there is a written record of our work."

Other than that, he's ready to go.

Anna Morphling (Hugh C) -- AC 22/13/19 - HP 49/49 -- CMD 15
Wednesday April 27th, 2016 7:12:51 AM

"Do you know of any factions within Alithmar that may still be harboring resentment towards the Mailed Fist that we should know to be wary of?" Anna asks her Commander.
