Character: Arrack Von Palin (Rigging) |
Appearance:
Rigging is a handsome young man with dark hair, grey eyes and a nice build. He wears his hair in a pony tail to keep it out of his eyes. His clothes are well made but functional. He favors darker colors to blend in to those shadows better. He wears a silver necklace around his neck which shows a ship cresting a wave. He also has a signet ring on one of his fingers.
Personality:
Rigging is a study in contrasts. He is very fun loving but also very serious. He runs away from authority but expects respect for his own. He is naïve and shy with people he cares about, but at the same time is very street smart. He is very loyal to his friends and will lay down his life for them willingly, but will be ruthless with his enemies and lets nothing stand in the way of his mission. He is very conflicted with his leadership role because of this. He is very afraid that one of his friends will perish on “his watch” and will be extra cautious with their lives.
Background:
Arrack Von Palin comes from a very old and powerful noble family. His father, the Duke, recognized that his son was a genius at an early age and groomed him for his responsibilities from the age of four. Arrack was an accomplished engineer by 10 and could also navigate by the stairs. The Duke decided that Arrack should become a Mage, and apprenticed him to one of his ship’s wizards for training.
This is where Rigging developed his nickname. He would scramble around the ship like a monkey when he wasn’t being bored by his master. His natural dexterity came to the attention of the ships mate, who in years past led a life of crime. He taught Rigging the skills of seamanship and got him started on his thief skills. Rigging loved his new found abilities, and liked making decisions for himself even more.
When the time came to be impressed by Ga’al, Rigging decided that he didn’t want to do it. Most of his motivation was he was afraid that his father would find out that he had thief skills and would be ashamed. Rigging ran away with some other noble children who also decided that they didn’t want to serve Ga’al. They ended up living in the forest under the sway of a horrible beast called Godspawn. Rigging wasn’t very big at this point and was bullied by many of the others. None of the other children had his skill however and he got along by building shelters and telling stories. When the group came along, he gladly fled with them.
After joining this band of adventurers, and wandering around fighting against Ga’al informally they were introduced to the Pirates of Jack. Two life altering things happened to Rigging at this point. One was he fell in love with a beautiful ranger named Wynd. The second was he was thrust into a leadership role. Because he had the skills of a sailor and knew navigation, he was given a slightly higher rank than the rest of his friends. He was placed into a leadership role. He loved it!
He loved it until on a raid of the temple of Ga’al, Wynd his first love was slain in the battle. This shook his self confidence greatly. He was afraid that all of his friends would eventually perish under his command. As some of his friends left to pursue other endeavors, he has relaxed into his leadership more and more.
Rigging fell in love again. He was immediately stricken by the exotic but beautiful looks of Ashira. She wasn’t a member of his family to begin with but an advisor teamed with his team by the pirates. Later she became a permanent member of the family. As they adventured more and more his respect and love for her grew. He isn’t sure who was more surprised when he proposed marriage. Ashira or himself but he was elated when she agreed.
As Rigging’s love for Ashira grew, so did his determination that he must find a way to free his people from the enslavement of Ga’al and this one task more than any other drives him now. He was terribly disappointed when Ga’al was brought back to be one of the new gods. It has only reaffirmed his faith in his struggle to free the people.
The group and Rigging have found a cure for the heartseed in the holy waters of Alemi preserved in the Faybelle bottle. Now Rigging is tortured on how to administer the cure and on who. This problem is something he is mulling over as he rejoins the pirates and goes to see the pirate king.
