Name: Lang Madchel
Player: Matt Colegrove Campaign: Floating City Race: Human Class: Ranger Gender: Male Age: 24 Height: 5 ft.10 in. Weight: 175 lbs. |
Appearance:
Lang is slightly taller than average, has a lean, muscular build and is nimble
on his feet. He is usually seen in non-descript; functional clothes that have
an outdoors look to them (browns and greens). He is rarely seen without his
Composite Longbow, which is he proud to say he made himself, a quiver of arrows
and a walking stick (Quarterstaff). Sometimes, Lang is seen with 2 Short Swords
strapped at his waist. Within the past year, Lang has developed a friendship
with a large, light colored German shepherd named Sunshine. They have been
inseparable ever since.
Personality:
Unfortunately for Lang he was not blessed with a pretty face or much social
skills. From an early age he has always been an outsider from his peers due
to his homely appearance and lack of social graces. This led Lang to be somewhat
of a loner and led him to spend a lot of time exploring the woods near his
childhood home. Another by product of being a loner for Lang was that his
schooling was minimal.
Lang is very athletic and skilled with weapons. He is very accurate with his Composite Longbow and he has learned to swim & ride.
History:
Lang grew up on a farm with his family near the Floating City (before it moved!).
His father is a farmer that provided food for the Floating City. His mother
is a housewife, but comes from a family of carpenters. Lang’s brothers and
sisters have all shown the desire to follow in their dad or mom’s footsteps.
Lang’s childhood was enjoyable, but lonely. While all the other children his age were going to school and following their father’s footsteps, Lang was skipping school and exploring the large forest near his home. While in the forest he found out that he could track deer and other animals quite successfully, sometimes getting within arm’s length of them before they sensed his presence. As his skills grew Lang also found out he had a natural aptitude for calming wild animals. He could even get some of them to let him pet them or feed them. Lang enjoyed the forest so much that he would often spend days there living off the land.
When Lang was a late teen, two Ogres moved into the forest and began to prey on all the farms and animals in the area. Lang’s skills became very useful to the community, as he was able to observe the movements of the Ogres and warn the farmers when the Ogres were going to raid. As a result the loss of life and property was kept to a minimum. After a year of raiding, the time came for the farmers to kill the Ogres. Lang was called upon, by the farmers to track the Ogres to their lair. Before the battle to rid the area of the Ogres, Lang crafted his first bow. It was not a well-made bow, but Lang was able to wield it to kill his first humanoid.
After the battle with the Ogres, one of the farmers with an adventuring past suggested to Lang that he find a teacher to sharpen his woodland talents. So at the age of 18, Lang left home with only the clothes on his back, his homemade bow and the name of the teacher (a Ranger) from the farmer. Lang spent the next 5 years training under this individual and his companions, honing his skills. It was a good 5 years and the training; adventuring and mercenary work has made Lang a skilled melee and ranged weapon fighter.
When word came back to Lang that the Floating City had vanished, Lang bid farewell to his new friends and traveled home to his family to see how they fared. His family was very happy to see him and related their knowledge of the Floating City disappearing and subsequent “finding” of it when a messenger from the missing city appeared through a portal. Lang’s family and neighbors have struggled since the disappearance, as they have to travel farther to sell their farm goods. Lang decided that he would try to help his family by traveling through the portal to the city and see if he could find and help the group who are trying to get the city back where it belongs.
Before Lang left on his trip, a close friend of his fathers brought over a newborn German shepherd puppy for Lang to take care of. He explained that the puppy’s mother died during birth and that all his attempts at saving the puppies have failed. This is the last puppy and he is afraid that it will die also if someone more qualified doesn’t take over its care.
So once again Lang packs up his belongings and with his new companion Sunshine (named due to his light colored fur) leaves home and heads off to the Floating City. Once there he finds the Circle of the Alder. Lang relates his family’s dilemma and offers his services to the Circle. The Circle makes him an auxiliary member and instructs him to assist in the exploration of the Crying Woods forest.
So for the past year Lang has been assisting the Circle in their
exploration of the Crying Woods. He has also been rearing & training his
new found friend Sunshine.
