A Lord of the Pixies

Last Leg (DM Cayzle)
Thursday April 21st, 2005 7:30:12 AM

[This is the Wednesday DM Post]

Steadfast in your determination to get to the Lord of the Pixies as soon as you can, you dissuade the intrepid Monthor from exploring the wreck, at least for now.

As Jasper sets out in the lead, Sarigar notes that you are following the flight of the swans.

The rest of the trip is uneventful ... if you consider a herd of woolly mammoth, a swarm of dire bats, and a stinky swamp you have to skirt uneventful. One night you have to chase off a few sabre tooth tigers.

You have the feeling that if you were less powerful, or less well guided, you would have been in more trouble. As it is, nothing keeps you from your goal.

You reach the lake that Jasper believes is your destination. It is a dark black lake set in a vale. It is more or less circular, about a quater mile in diameter. Wooded hills surround it. Mists rise from it, even though it is midday. You see huge swans swimming on the lake. A small isle is in the middle.

Please make a listen check vs DC20. If you do, Please Highlight to display spoiler: {Do you hear some kind of ethereal music? Some unearthly strain? Some melody beyond time? Maybe you do. It is so faint, you are not sure.}

==========

[OOC: Not to be a whiner, but you guys! Come on! Please read the DM posts completely! If it calls for a check to read hidden text, please at least make a roll! Even Knowledge checks can be untrained Int checks. Jasper, one of the hidden texts was for you alone if you made a DC 12 Survival check, but you didn't even roll! LOL!]

Renik  d20+14=24
Thursday April 21st, 2005 8:14:04 AM

Renik has the impression he hears the faintest of music, though he can't be sure (listen 24). He turns to the others and says

"Well I'd guess we need to get the isle at the center of the lake. If I was a Pixie Lord living on a lake that's where I'd be. Suggestions as to how to get there? We could repeat the trick we used for crossing the chasm. The size of those swans gives me pause, though. With Monthor and I flying we'll be in trouble if those swans take exception to us. Still, unless anyone can think of another route me may have to give it a go."

Monthor  d20-2=16
Thursday April 21st, 2005 8:28:56 AM

The dwarve's ears perk up as he notices an unfamiliar sound ( role = 16) but he's not certain what it is.

{ Weird.... }

" Anyway.... Me think we may be over thinking this. If this pixie dude is so 'all powerfull', it probably knows we're here already and will find a way to get US there. Maybe that's what those big birdies are for. To carry us over. Not that me needs them. Me mammy's boots can get me across. Maybe we should search the shore line a bit before going over."

Monthor shrugs

" But what do me know. Me just the muscle. "

Monthor looks at Jasper.

" What do ye think little buddy? "

Sarigar and Black Paws  d20+16=32 d20+16=27 d20+12=16 d20+12=31 d20+16=22
Thursday April 21st, 2005 10:39:25 AM

With their keen hearing and their natural wariness, the brothers pick out the music (Listen 32/27). Not accustomed to hearing music, they're not sure what to make of it at first. They each tilt they head to the side as if a little confused. As they listen longer, they sit and listen, almost enthralled by the music. Apparently it's true that music soothes the savage beast.

When Renik begins speaking about crossing the lake, Sarigar comes up with a thought. He begins concentrating on the swans, especially if they come relatively close to the shore. He begins tossing them scraps of bread and seed from his rations. Talking calmly to them, he attempts to coax them closer (Wild Empathy 16). If they approach peacefully, he will then try to convince them to take the party across (Wild Empathy 31, Handle Animal 22).

"Brother's gonna need a way across too. These ain't big enough to carry him."

Tratain  d20+10=15 d20+10=11
Thursday April 21st, 2005 12:03:33 PM

Tratain oblivious to the music(listen 15) attempts to spot(11) if there is some boat or other means to reach the center of the lake. Tratain waits to see if Sarigar is successful in persuading the giant swans to take the party across. If he suggest walking around the lake to look for a way to the middle. If none can be found he can always get the party across tomorrow with a Water Walk spell.

Jasper  d20+10=26
Thursday April 21st, 2005 12:32:49 PM

Jasper tilts his head (Listen 26) and, taking a scrap of cloth, attempts to clear his ear. "D'you 'ear that? Sounds like..." He shakes his head hard. "Neh. I lost it."

Oi can spell me over there, but oi'd rather have some sign we's welcome."

Jasper goes to the edge of the water, bows, and shouts, "Oi come seeking th' wise counsel of th' Pixie Lord, on a matter that concerns the Wood. If ye bid us enter, please milord, some sign?"

Jasper waits for a signal.

[OOC: Sorry about that. I made a DC 12 Int check, and even used the info I gathered, but I didn't indicate it in the post. I'll be more careful in the future.]

Draax  d20+3=15
Thursday April 21st, 2005 1:03:16 PM

Draax tries to listen for the sound that Jasper asked about but he cannot hear it.

As he watches Sarigar try to befriend the large swans Draax hopes the creatures are friendly. He waits with the others to see if the Lord of the Pixie will answer Jasper's call.

The Pixie Lord (DM Cayzle)
Friday April 22nd, 2005 12:07:08 AM

Renik, Monthor, Tratain, and Draax discuss ways to get across. They watch Jasper make an appeal to the Pixie Lord, and Sarigar, to the swans.

The two rangers speak their appeals, and there is an answer. The music that some people heard now grows louder, and everyone can hear it. But something is very strange ... where is it coming from? It seems almost crazy, but could it be coming from the sky?

If you look up and make a Search check vs DC15, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You see that the two moons and the sun are in the sky -- very close together.}

But you are distracted by the swans, who are coming closer to shore. They swim back and forth, in time with the music.

You see that the swans have riders, small people dressed in green. One, taller than the others, but still half Jasper's size, is in the lead. A circle of butterflies flutter above his head.

He comes within 50 feet of the shore, and he sings. His song is not the same melody as the strange music from above, but it is not discordant, either. Sometimes notes the small man sings fit perfectly with the music, sometimes not.

His song:

In ages past I laughed with you.
We fought the demon Teucri foe.
We dined on rain and honeydew.
You saved when I reeled from woe.

But you are rough, I can recall.
You smiled when you wounded me.
Your anger held me firm in thrall.
In fear, I could not disagree.

Should we arouse you, foe and friend?
Once woken, what would you intend?

Renik  d20+9=13
Friday April 22nd, 2005 8:36:16 AM

Renik glances distractedly up at the sky, looking for the source of the music. Noticing nothing unusual (search 13) he turns his attention once more to events unfolding before them.

"Good call, Jaspar" whispers the rogue as the Pixie Lord draws close. He steps forward and is about to address the diminutive fae when he breaks into song. Renik holds his breath to be sure to hear every word, and turns their meaning over carefully in his mind. They evoke in him a feeling of some other place or time, some mystical Xanadu long-since lost to the mortal races.

But the song also worries Renik. The Sleeper the Pixie Lord sings of does not sound like the unequivocal force for good the elves have been promoting. In fact it all sounds a little ominous. Anger? Fear? These emotions to not seem to match the promise of peace and love the elves have been espousing. At the very least the Sleeper this Pixie Lord sings of sounds like a two-edged sword.

"Greetings, Lord of Pixies" Renik cries, bowing low. Rising once more he calls out "You sing of the Sleeper, he whom the elves would awaken. Your words sound like ones of caution. Are we right to be wary of awakening He who Sleeps? I assume you were present when last the Sleeper walked the Wold. What more can you tell us of him? Does he have a name? Why is he now sleeping? Should we let sleeping Gods lie?"

Tratain  d20=9 d20+3=15
Friday April 22nd, 2005 9:35:32 AM

Tratain listens to the Pixie Lords song, searching(9) the sky for the source of the music but not finding anything.

Tratain says "We would like to hear stories about the Fae King, both good and bad so we can better understand who it is that the elves wish to awaken. Also have you any idea when this awakening will take place? We wish to tell what we find to those who may have influence over the descision while there is still time for discussion. It seems you are the only person with any first hand information about the Fae King, and we do not want such an important descision to be made blindly."

Diplomacy 15

Monthor.
Friday April 22nd, 2005 10:53:37 AM

The dwarf knows full well that his strenghts are not in having discussions with pixies. Except of course if he needs to intimidate them a bit.
That said, Monthor stands on guard for any treachery and lets the others do the talking.

Sarigar and Black Paws  d20+1=15 d20-3=0 d20+16=33 d20+16=31
Friday April 22nd, 2005 12:18:22 PM

Now able to see the riders, Sarigar abandons his attempt to influence them as the riders can surely guide them regardless. The brothers look up in the sky, Sarigar takes note of the converging celestial bodies (Search 15), but his brother's attention is recaptured by the approaching pixies (Search 0).

"Ummm, didn't the pointy ears talk about moons and stuff coming together? Looks like their doing that now.

As he listens to the pixie's song some of the content sounds interesting, if not confusing. He looks to whichever party member that's nearest to him and asks...

"What's a Too-Kree?"
"Oooo, I like honey, I wonder if honeydew tastes like that too."
"What's a foe? Is being a foe and friend kinda like me being a wolf and man at the same time?"
"Sounds like the little un got hurt by this foe-friend, and the foe-friend liked hurting him. Hmmmm."

With their attention span pretty much completely exhausted, the brothers begin looking around the area. They each spot little unassuming things, like bugs they've never seen or an odd frog and begin watching them. Black Paws sniffs around the area, occasionally rolling a rock out of the way with his nose to find yet something new.

Feng
Friday April 22nd, 2005 12:32:15 PM

Feng cautiously watches Renik and the Lord of Pixies. There is no proof that he is any safer than the sleeper. He's just the one that knows more than the rest. The lord of pixies rides on the back of a swan which means he's probably alright.

Feng bows his head slightly, "It is good to finally meeet you."

Arien  d20+12=22
Friday April 22nd, 2005 1:37:17 PM

Arien blocks the sun with one hand to protect his eyes as he looks about and notices how close the moons and the sun are. (Search 22)

Stepping forward as the swans approach Arien says, "We wish to know of your time with the Fae King as well, what kind of man was he?"

Draax  d20+5=19
Friday April 22nd, 2005 9:11:18 PM

As he looks up at the moons and the sun (search 19) Draax realizes that that they might be running out of time.

The pixie lord's poem makes Draax very wary about awakening the sleeper. This does not sound like a being that is supposed to bring love to all. He thinks they will have to get a feel for the lord of the pixies before they can place a value on what he says.

Draax listens as the others begin to ask the pixie lord questions and waits to hear what the answers are.

The Pixie Lord Speaks (DM Cayzle)
Saturday April 23rd, 2005 2:54:38 AM

The small being directs his swan a little closer. He seems very rushed, but answers the first question asked by those who speak to him.

Renik: Are we right to be wary of awakening He who Sleeps?

"Wary? Oh, yes, be wary. That does not mean he is bad, or that he should not waken. But be wary, because the Fae King has his own mind.

Tratain: Also have you any idea when this awakening will take place?

"Indeed, his rebirth is nigh!"

Sarigar: Ummm, didn't the pointy ears talk about moons and stuff coming together?

"Indeed, this is the time of prophecy! The elves are deciding as we speak!"

Arien: We wish to know of your time with the Fae King as well, what kind of man was he?

"In a time now long gone, The Fae King was a powerful force of Nature. He did what seemed best to him: many great works that helped the Wold, and many acts of mischief or chaos, the purpose of which escaped me. He was potent, willful, kind-hearted, whimsical, petty, giving, and contradictory."

The music from the sky deepens and gets louder. There is no way to hear what else the pixie may be saying.

The elf-blooded in the group understand: At this moment, all the elves in the Wold are singing! In fact, you feel compelled to join in. Some sing to waken the Sleeper. Others to keep him at rest.

Elf-blooded, make your choice! Do you sing the Sleeper to awaken or to rest?

The Song
Saturday April 23rd, 2005 7:08:27 AM

The Wold stirs....

A breeze springs up, seemingly from out of nowhere. On the Sargass Plains, the unending grasses begin to move and toss, and the rapkes pace, restless and uneasy. In the Windbourne Hills, horses whinny and break into a run for no reason. In the tunnels beneath Dirt City, sewer rats begin to flee their hiding places, running into well-traveled corridors while the people wonder what it all could mean. And in the Emerald Kingdom, the anticipation is very nearly palpable as the animals awaken and the trees stir in the wind.

Something is coming.

The Wold seems to hold its collective breath as the Sleeper stretches, turns, sighs ... and ...

[OOC: Please post now and I will post on Monday.]

Sarigar and Black Paws
Saturday April 23rd, 2005 9:51:51 AM

Caught up in all the singing, the brothers sit back, throw their heads up and bay at the converging celestial bodies.

Draax
Saturday April 23rd, 2005 10:47:59 PM

Draax listens to the Pixie Lord until he can no longer hear the king anymore because of the music and singing. It takes a moment before he realizes that he is one of the singers. Draax is a little surprised that he knows all the words because he is singing a song that he has never heard before. As he listens, Draax suddenly realizes the meaning of the words emerging from his mouth. Not sure if he is doing the right thing Draax continues to sing the song to put the sleeper to rest.

Renik  d20+9=18
Sunday April 24th, 2005 11:24:17 AM

As the wind springs up Renik looks around in alarm. It seems the Pixie Lord's warnings may have come too late... it feels like Something is coming. The hairs on the backs of his arms stand on end, as some ancient animal part of his brain responds to the enormity of the moment; he feels like he is teetering on the brink of a precipice.

Forcing himself back into the now he realises the singing seems to have caught up his elven companions. Not knowing a word of Elven, he is at a loss as to what they are singing about, but he hopes their song is one of sleeping, not waking. Looking up he notices the coming eclipse for the first time (Search 18). The rogue shakes his head, realising events are now entirely out of his hands. All he can do is wait, watch and hope.

Tratain
Sunday April 24th, 2005 8:13:09 PM

Tratain waits to see how the awakening turns out.

Monthor
Sunday April 24th, 2005 8:53:19 PM

The dwarven warrior doesn't seem to quite know what the heck is going on with the crazy elves it it seems to be an inappropriate time to be singing. All the same, no one seems to be getting hurt, so Monthor decides to sling his cross bow and draw his axe... just in case.

{Those skinny ones are a weird bunch of nutters}

Monthor shakes his head and waits to see what happens.

Jasper  d20+6=12
Monday April 25th, 2005 10:12:29 AM

Jasper cocks his ear, trying to absorb the music even though he cannot understand it. But the waning of one note is lost in the waxing of the next, and he gives up.

Jasper envies the elves for such a complete inclusion in the ceremony. He wonders how the elves know to sing, seeing no obvious cues in the world around him (Search 12). Are they aware of their own song, or obliviously enraptured?

At best, it seems like a longshot gamble. Like most forces of nature, the Fae King sounds like a mass of potential with no discernable direction. If what the Pixie Lord says is true, the elves can't hope to control him, only to unleash him and hope the outcome is for the best. Either way, the time of trial is coming, and Jasper hopes he's equal to the test.

Arien
Monday April 25th, 2005 11:19:18 AM

As the song swells about him Arien finds himself caught up in it, joining it. The Pixie Lord's warnings did not seem so bad, many would fit his description of the Fae King. Unable to convince himself otherwise Arien joins to song, trying to awaken the Sleeper.

The Awakening
Monday April 25th, 2005 12:30:08 PM

Two moons merge and cover the sun. The Wold is dark and all the songs blend into one glorious note. It holds ... the moons part ... and eyes the color of the seaopen, blink and focus. The Sleeper regards the Wold around him. The expanse of New Elenna, the great bulk of Shadow Mountain, the mysteries of the Southern Continent, even the wonder that is Floating City -- all of these are known to the Sleeper in a heartbeat. A frown of concentration crosses his face, then a satisfied smile as he begins to know what must be done.

The Sleeper takes a breath and stretches out his hand ...

Renik
Monday April 25th, 2005 2:30:12 PM

The rogue gulps.

"Oh boy..."

Sarigar and Black Paws
Monday April 25th, 2005 3:21:27 PM

The great hand reaching out of the sky itself may be awe inspiring to many, but to the brothers it's nothing short of soul shattering, terrifying sight.

The black tentacles that Arien has conjured in the past scare the brothers mightly. Seeing this sight has them deathly afraid. In a state of panic, the brothers dash into the treeline. The others suspect at first that they are simple ducking in to hide, but their footsteps do not fade from stealth, but from distance.

==========

[Cayzle: LOL! Sorry, Philip! I was being metaphorical! None of the Hamleteers actually SEE a giant hand reaching out of the sky! At the most, they sense somehow that a great force has awoken, and is now active. The elves certainly sense that the Sleeper is now awake and active. No one sees a physical manifestation! LOL! Apologies for the confusion! Feel free to repost.]

Jasper
Monday April 25th, 2005 3:29:15 PM

Jasper darts furtive looks to his flanks. "Wot? Wot? Wot'd I miss?" He leans low in the saddle and pats Balthazar on the neck. "Wot do ya think, boy? Weal or woe?"

Jasper sighs. "Should be an interesting hike back."

Tratain
Monday April 25th, 2005 5:16:37 PM

Tratain says It seems the elves have chosen to awaken him.

He calls to the Pixie Lord How or why did the Fae king sleep in the first place? I admit that there is much Evil that he may be able to help us combat, but from your description of him it seems as though its only a matter of time before he turns upon the innocent for reasons known only to him. Is there a way to force him back to sleep or at least make him parlay with us if required? As powerful as you and others say he is and given his personality as you describe it he may not even listen or care what others have to say, is there a way to force him to listen or check his power should it become necessary?

Monthor
Monday April 25th, 2005 9:16:16 PM

Monthor chucles under his breath at the show presenting itself in front of him.

{ Crazy nutters. Oh, well. They're entertaining at least. }

Draax
Monday April 25th, 2005 10:03:00 PM

Draax realizes that his efforts to keep the sleeper at rest were wasted. He wonders if he was the only elf-blood that tried to do so and will he have to suffer consequences for his actions.

Feng
Monday April 25th, 2005 11:15:31 PM

Feng regards this even with a strange curiosity. All his life he has been touched by the gods. He's felt their divine presence in all things he does but this, this eludes him. An entity wakes and for the first time he's not included in this celestial event. He knows that he should not dwell on such a thing. It just feels...weird.

"I would have been shocked for them not too."

Sarigar and Black Paws
Monday April 25th, 2005 11:55:01 PM

The brothers howling ends shortly after the moons begin to part. They begin to look and sniff around the area to see if anything is different.

After the Eclipse (DM Cayzle)
Tuesday April 26th, 2005 7:33:52 AM

Arien and Draax sense that many elves -- maybe all the elves who ever existed -- sang for the decision. A large number sang to keep the King sleeping, but a much larger number sang to awaken him. By far, just about every elf in the Culverwood, especially those in the Emerald Kingdom, sang to waken the Sleeper.

As the song fades away, Renik, Monthor, Jasper, and Draax grapple with the implications.

Black Paws and Jasper's Companion, Balthazar, both prick up their ears, and give a little whine. If you can make a Listen check vs. DC 10, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You hear ... maybe feel is a better word ... a rumbling blast, as of an explosion that is tens, or hundreds, or thousands of miles away.}

To Sarigar, his friend's nervousness resonates with his nature-tuned soul. There's a smell in the air, a little like springtime.

Feng, too, has an intuition that there is a new wrinkle in the fabric of divinity on which the Wold is embroidered.

The Pixie Lord laughs and dances in glee. "Hee hee! The King has returned! Those elves did it!"

Tratain's questions put a small damper on the Pixie Lord's mirth. "What will the King do? What will happen? I surely don't know, but I expect it will be amazing! But already, I sense that he is active."

He looks thoughtful when Tratain asks about what why the Fae King went to sleep in the first place. "I can only tell you rumors. Some think he fell asleep, exhausted after his labors in teaching the Druidic Arts to mortals. Others say that his wife laid a sleep spell on him after she found him cavorting with nymphs. Maybe the Gods of Yore laid him down -- of course, only Pantheon has a memory to reach back that far."

Tratain has even more questions, which seem to annoy the pixie. "Inquisitive fellow, are you not? As to a check on his power, that may be beyond the reach of mortals. I think his wife would have the greatest hold over him, if the bonds of love still tie the two together."

"Now, off with you all! I have flowers to sprinkle with faerie dust and posts of gold to count!"

If you make a Sense Motive check vs. DC15, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You sense that he is annoyed and sarcastic.}

Monthor  d20=9
Tuesday April 26th, 2005 9:23:19 AM

With a loud grumble, Monthor turns and starts to walk away from the Pixie King.

" Works for me. Let's get out of here. Me have enough of the skinny tinker bells anyway. "

Tratain
Tuesday April 26th, 2005 10:42:20 AM

Tratain says Well, now that we've been dismissed, I suppose we could go check out that wrecked ship on our way back, since the sleeper is already awake haste isn't an Issue anymore.

The day the group gets close enough that they could check out the wreck Tratain will memorize a new set of spells.

Sarigar and Black Paws  d20+16=20 d20+1=13
Tuesday April 26th, 2005 12:29:18 PM

Black Paws ears perk up and his head turns to listen more intently. He walks a bit away from the party in the direction of what he's listening to.

For a moment, Sarigar doesn't notice his brother's actions as he's focused on the moons and the Pixie. Then suddenly, as if a feeling of deja vu passes over him, he perks his own head up and turns to look to his brother. A look of concern flows momentarily over his face quickly replaced by a smile.

He steps over to his brother, scratches him on the scruff of his neck. "What is it brother? What cha hearing?

Black Paws shifts restlessly and lets out a few small barks and whimpers, almost as if he were talking. Then, the brothers both begin sniffing the air and grins come over their faces.

"Big ground shaking, that way, many weeks of running we think. And now, the air smells like the time after the cold time. Many animals will be happy now I think."

Barely even noticing the Pixie Lord, the brothers could care less how he feels at the moment (Sense Motive 13). The world is waking up like a new spring and that has the brothers' full attention.

Jasper  d20+6=16 d20+3=21 d20=9
Tuesday April 26th, 2005 4:24:15 PM

Jasper leans down and presses his ear to Balthazar's head. Balthazar whimpers (Listen 16) and Jasper pats him soothingly. "'e certainly makes a 'elluva bumble when 'e awakens!"

Jasper sniffs the air. "'e's already 'aving an effect." Then, turning to the Pixie Lord, sensing the audience has come to an end (Sense Motive 21), he chances one last question (Diplomacy 9) "Milord, one last question then we're off! Do ye know where the Fey King's wife would be?" He says it a little too loudly, and even Balthazar gives him a sidelong glance, to which Jasper says, chagrined, "Whaaaaat? What'd I say NOW?"

Renik  d20+14=22 d20+3=12
Tuesday April 26th, 2005 4:34:31 PM

Renik feels the ground rumble through the soles of his boots more than he hears anything (Listen 22). He nods to Sarigar. "Aye, something a long way off. But for us to experience it here, it must be something pretty monumental. I wonder what it was."

He looks to his companions. "So the Sleeping King has awoken. Only time will tell if he will prove peacemaker or otherwise. Let us pray the elves have chosen wisely." He doesn't look too convinced, but tries to put a brave face on the situation.

"My Lord, my thanks for meeting with us, and for your helpful words. Pay no heed to the grumblings of a dour dwarf, he means no ill." Renik is not too sure how to read the Pixie Lord (Sense Motive 12), but he knows it is never wise to antagonize the faerie folk.

As the party prepare to take their leave he turns the Pixie Lord's parting words over in his mind.

Draax  d20=13
Tuesday April 26th, 2005 4:39:13 PM

Draax listens and hopes that the Pixie lord will answer Jasper's question. As long as there is a being that can oppose the sleeper if he gets out of hand makes Draax feel a lot better about the elves awakening him.

"His wife! His wife! He said his wife!" (DM Cayzle)
Wednesday April 27th, 2005 3:39:09 PM

Monthor and Tratain turn to leave. Sarigar, true to his nature, is more involved in sights, sounds, and smells than in words. But Jasper and Renik have the presence of mind to speak one last time with the Pixie Lord, as Draax observes, wondering.

Jasper's question -- "Do ye know where the Fey King's wife would be?" -- creates a tumult in the pixie folk. Mounted on their Dire Swans, they chant, in a sing-song voice, "His wife! His wife! He said his wife! His wife! His wife! He said his wife!"

As the Pixie Lord remounts his Swan, he calls out, "Everyone knows that Queen Maab rules the Valleys of Twilight."

The pixie nods his head at Renik's thanks, and the fey folk dive under the water.

Feng
Wednesday April 27th, 2005 4:51:46 PM

"It looks like we know where we are going next. I hope his wife can be reasoned with though I suspect that she will be of a like mind. I...I think that the rest of the gods may disaprove of the sleepers actions. While I think its unlikely I believe there is a chacne that things could get really bad."

Tratain  d20+7=19 d20=13

Tratain looks at the others and says Queen Maab? Can't say that ive heard of her, anyone know anything about her?

Draax
Wednesday April 27th, 2005 6:25:05 PM

"Before we jump to conclusions, we have no idea if awakening the Sleeper was a good or bad thing. Before we ask his wife for assistance we should make sure we need it. I for one have no idea who Queen Maab is and what would become of getting her involved. Unless the rest of you know something about the queen of the Valleys of Twilight we should find out what we can about her before we approach her. No matter what we find I believe that we should approach her and get a feel for her thoughts on the matter but I do not think we should ask her for assistance unless we are sure we are going to need it."

Draax realizes that trying to walk between to cultures have never been as hard for him as it is now.

Monthor  d20=5

Monthor scratches his beard...

" Hummm... no, me don't know nothing about no pixie queen (GK role, 5). But me with Draax. Me think we need to go back to the skinny tree lovers before we set off anywhere else. Me and me little buddy need to let them know what happened here. And don't forget, we have a busted up boat to check over.

So far this has been a pretty darn boring trip fellows. No gold, no brawl, there better be something on that boat."

:: Monthor's face lights up. Kinda like a light buld going off in his head.. ::

" Well, at least me got a perty, sweet smelling 1/2 orc to pal around with. Yep... that boy makes it worth while getting up in the morning. Ain't that right princess? "

:: Monthor bellows a loud belly laugh and slightly bend over with glee. ::

"Queen Maab... For some reason that name is familiar, but I'm not sure why" ponders the rogue. (Knowledge 10) "Where have I heard that before?"

"You're right, Monthor. We need to report back what we have heard to the elves, and we have no time to lose. If, as the Pixie Lord seemed to suggest, the Awakening of the Fae King is an event to be treated with reservation, we should spread the word of this wife of his.

There may yet be a way to speak to them and investigate your aquatic beastie however, Monthor. Arien, are you able to transport yourself back to the elven camp, then back here again? That way we could inform the elves of what we know, discover if they know anything of this Queen Maab, and then, our duty done, return to more 'entertaining' pursuits."

He glances over at Monthor with an amused eyebrow raised at this last part.

Hearing the name Queen Maab rouses Sarigar's attention as he turns around to face the others. Scratching his head as if trying to remember something he says, "I think the tree lady talked about her once. Hmmm, now what was that she said again?"

He walks around the area with a look of deep concentration on his face his brother following close behind with a similar look. His chaotic mind trying to grasp at information he may have heard long ago (General Knowledge 21 - Nat 20, Knowledge Nature 36 - Nat 20).

ooc: Ummm, WOW, 2 20's in a row.

Jasper
Thursday April 28th, 2005 1:06:19 AM

Jasper looks taken aback at the tumult his question creates among the fey. But he recovers in time to bow to the Pixie Lord before his departure.

"Oi'm not sure we be needin' to visit Queen Maab jes' yet. A courtesy visit might be wise, if we can bring her a gift wot befits 'er station. But we do 'ave to tell the elves of this meeting. An' there *is* that ship as well..."

Jasper mounts Balthazar and turns him away from the lake. "Shall we be movin' on gentlemen?"

Arien ponders a moment, trying to recall if he remembers anything of this Queen Maab or of the Valleys of Twilight. After a few minutes he says, "I agree with Jasper here, I say we head back and speak with the elves, perhaps they will know something of this that we can use.

Tratain (Second Post)
Thursday April 28th, 2005 7:01:06 PM

Tratain will make sure the Book for the Green Man is written in tonight so that he can know what is going on and send word if he needs too.

After comparing notes, Arien, Sarigar, and Tratain tell the group a little about Queen Maab. Her dwelling place is in the fabled Lands of Rest, where souls go after they die. In one part are sheparded the followers of Alemi's Pantheon. In another part are the followers of Marteaus's. The Valleys of Twilight are between. There Queen Maab rules over the fey, but in stories, she also pops up in other places.

The party heads back toward the ravine. The air smells fresher, greener. You can practically see the grass growing as you walk through meadows. You camp for the night, and you awaken to the smell of hundreds of flowers that have bloomed overnight. Your hair is growing fast, too -- by tomorrow, you'll all have full beards.

At length, you are close to the chasm.

"Well, as we are here we may as well investigate" grins the rogue through thick stubble. He whips out twin shortswords, floats up into the air and heads out over the chasm to reconoitre the area (Spot 23).

Jasper guides more carefully, trying to adjust now that the same landmarks have a brand new verdant carpet. He scratches his own new carpet, the tufts that push through his scarred face, as he chortles at the discovery of every plant that was once a rare sight in the forest.

Even so, he keeps his optimism restrained. "Oi don' know wot to think. Nature's always been a balancin' act between thrivin' and spoilin'. Ev'ry time Oi've seen too much o' one, it forbode a spell o' the other comin' soon. Nothin' in nature is bought wit' out payin' a price."

He scratches his thickening beard. "or mebbe its jus' me newfound scruff irritatin' me. Wot do Oi know?"

At the chasm Jasper looks over the edge to see if he can still spot (Spot 14) the wreckage. Then he'll wait for the fliers in the party to report back what they find.

Monthor
Friday April 29th, 2005 3:59:54 PM

Seeing Renik heading down, Monthor bellows out a loud cry.

" WHOOHOO!!! A FREY!!!! "

The dwarf clicks his heels, floats a few feet off the ground, draws his axe and joyfully follows Renik down.

Sarigar and Black Paws  d20+16=25 d20+16=32

The brothers feel the resurgance of nature as much as they see, hear and smell it. It infuses their beings and they find the world around them brighter and more alive than they ever could have dreamed. Even with the potential predators around, they feel a deep kinship with them and know they are safe.

Their spirits so bolstered, they are all but ready to leap off the edge of the chasm, so full of life that they know they will be unharmed. Despite their vigor, they know better and simply peer over the edge, without the slightest trepidation of the height (Spot 25/32).

As they look down, they suddenly wonder, why is this ship such a big deal to the others? Sure, it could be a good place to hide if needed, but it's too soggy. Some of them talked of treasure, why's that so important? And a beast to kill? How would they like being killed, just because they're there? Maybe that boat is that thing's den.

"Ummm, what're we doing here? I know it's the way back, but sounds like you wanna go down there."

Feng
Friday April 29th, 2005 4:14:02 PM

"Sarigar I'm wondering the same thing. I hope nothing happens because I can't make it down there." Feng says as he watches some of the group descend into the chasm.

Tratain  d20+10=16
Friday April 29th, 2005 5:09:10 PM

On the mourning that the group is going to encounter the boat Tratain Memorizes some new spells and tells the others his plans.

I have memorized some spells that will help us with the exploration and battle if it comes to that. First I have a spell which will allow us all to breath water, and I also have a spell which will allow us all to tread upon the water as if it were solid. I also have memorized 4 Freedom of Movement spells, those four should explore the wreck, the rest should stand away a bit.

Tratain will look for a way down that everyone can use(Spot 16). If a way down is found he will cast the spells on hte party and consult Renik for the four to recieve the Freedom of Movement spells.

Tratain Continued
Friday April 29th, 2005 5:11:24 PM

Tratain continues Sarigar or Jasper, do you think you could speak with the large beast if its still there? We just want to explore the wreck and see what we can find, you two seem in touch with nature and may be able to convince it to let us look in the wreck and avoid a fight.
