DM RobC - "Mind if I tag along?"
Thursday August 3rd, 2017 8:10:35 AM

Osul advises he would rather speak with a druid in the WLA. Meribel looks confused for a moment then answers "Well few members choose to stay here when there are so many others place in Plateau to visit. This is more a pit stop to conduct training or gather information. If it was me seeking a druid, I'd try the Druid Quarter. There's a holy park dedicated to the forces of nature, an amphitheatre for contemplations and gatherings and the lake of Serenity. I can't think of a particular druid member of the WLA off the top of my head, but asking around there would probably help"

Mack kicks back with Squeaver and enjoys the peace and quiet on the balcony. He can hear the murmurs of street noise below but it is just background noise to him now.

Nathaniel and Elyngael "Members are free to travel the Wold wherever the winds take them. Assignments are only made when direct focus is required, and the right party is chosen for the job. I'm sorry, but we can't allow parties to compete for assigments. The right party with the right skillset. But noone - noone is forced to take an assignment."

Elyngael continues to pursue her parents. Meribel looks sympathetic "Chapter houses tend to manage themselves. We do not have nor keep a complete register of all memebers. But that doesn't mean we can't try. We can spread word."

Atlas continues with the chase, but as friendly as she is, Meribel does not appear interested - in that way. With defeat looming, Atlas is ready to call it a day and head back to the tavern.

-------------------------------------------

Armand and Beordir engage the half-elf in the Sages Guild. He places a woven bookmark in his book and closes it to give the pair his full attention "Learning about the Sage's Guild?" the half-elf nods and smiles as he paraphrases Armand's words "Learning is good. If learning is an act of exploration, then the Sage's Guild equips the explorer for the journey of a lifetime."

He stands to shake hands "Master Yenfire Dewshining, Sage. But please, call me Yen. It would be my pleasure to share with you my knowledge of the Sage's Guild" Yen gestures to some chairs to sit down

"Is there anything in particular you wish to know? Personally, I view the Sage's Guild as a group of likeminded individuals who value knowledge and wish to spread it to every corner of the world. Any who appreciate knowledge and treat it with respect and diligence is welcome among us. We do not operate for profit. Knowledge should be freely shared." Yen pauses and takes on a more serious tone "Within reason. Some dark secrets should remain buried for the sake of the Wold"

"Does what I say make sense?"

"Hmm, hmm, I see. Seems to be a pretty good arrangement, all in all. But I'll still need some time to think about it."

He pouts slightly, mulling the situation over in his head. This isn't the only option, after all. I wonder how those two are doing over at the Sage's Guild?

"You wouldn't happen to have a pamphlet or something I can take away? I think my companions here are in the mood to move on from Plateau City, but it seems like the WLA has offices all over the place, so I doubt this is my only chance to sign up. By the time we stop in another town I'm sure I'll have come to a decision."

Atlas takes his time heading back to the tavern, taking in the sights and the people. As much as he prefers the tranquil nature of the tree, there is an energy here that is hard to ignore. It lifts his spirits and he decides to take a detour to the Trade Quarter to browse the wares. He isn't looking for anything special, he really just wants to soak in the atmosphere.

He does keep his eyes open for anything interesting, either something to buy or someone that intrigues him. He also ensures that his possessions are neatly tucked away or tied tightly should anyone try and take them without his permission.

"Oh...", replies Beordir wittily. After he recovers from his surprise, he continues in Elven.

"I didn't know this was an organization. I thought it was a library. How awesome!"

He pulls out his journal as a prop. "I've already been documenting the knowledge I'm learning every day. To think that there are an organized group of people who all do that! It's mind-boggling. Are there special ways you gather knowledge for the Sage's Guild?"

'manners! Armand silently berates himself for not introducing himself first.

"Hello Yen, My name is Armand." Armand takes the seat and then begins recounting how he has started collecting some books for a Library that was part of the residence they had built at the Tree of Parting. Most of it is fiction at this time, but Armand figures that anything to encourage the residents of the Tree to read a bit is welcome.

Once a little more of the guild is explained, Armand asks. "Well what is the difference in duties of a sage of acquisitions and a sage of records? I'm part of the group known as the Tree Wardens and we seem to travel around a lot. So while personally I would lean toward Records/Librarian I think that professionally I'm more apt to be of service as Acquisitions/hunter."

Elyngael likes Meribel, and likes what she has heard so far. "What you say sounds intriguing and fair as any guild, Meribel. I'm interested. Tell me the details about joining. How much and what's the process? I hope it doesn't take long, because my friends may not stick around too long."

"There's a Druid Quarter?..."

He takes whatever directions Meribel is happy to share, and shares that news with Mack when he and Squeaver return - everyone else who remains at the WLA having already heard.

"Travel days to a city to meet other druids... doesn't make sense to me, but I have to follow this up and anyone who wants to come along is welcome." He prepares to head off, after checking to see who is joining him.

DM RobC - "There's a Druid Quarter?..."
Friday August 4th, 2017 8:25:50 AM

Nathaniel is quite happy with what he hears, but isn't ready to commit just yet "No, no brouchures" Meribel chuckles "But you are right. We have outposts in all major cities, and most major outposts. Take your time and decide whether this is for you."

Elyngael is ready to take the next step. Meribel smiles. "The process is simple. Standing before me now, simply place your hand over your heart and make the following oath: "I, ... state your name ..., do solemnly swear to uphold the ideals of the League, to protect the innocent and combat evil wherever I may find it."

"It is then your decision as to how much responsibility you are ready for. Yes, there are dues, but we use these to help those who need it most. You will then be presented with your badge - a symbol recognised all throughout the Wold"

Mack has had enough fresh air and is ready to leave.

Osul, too, is ready to leave now that he knows there is a Druid Quarter. "You sound surprised there are druids here in Plateau? As I said, we have a whole quarter devoted to nature and its appreciation, or worship of you choose"

------------------------------------

Atlas heads back towards the tavern, taking everything in along the way, but can't but help to take a slight detour via the markets.

The stalls he finds in the Trade Quarter aren't as fancy as the rest of Plateau City, but they are humble and well tended.

------------------------------------

Beordir and Armand enquire further about the Sage's Guild.

"Special ways to gather knowledge? An interesting question. We gather and document all that we find so that later generations may learn. We send - no, send is the wrong word - we encourage members to travel the Wold to learn from others and to share knowledge gained with the guild. Divination is sometimes useful, but of course you need to know the right question to receive the right answer"

"As for the different Chambers, these have been established to fulfill our ethos: “Seek, Store, and Share.”.

The Chamber of Acquisition is for those who seek to discover new knowledge. This could be through days meticulously trawling through a private book collection, all the way to observations made in the heat of a battle.

The Chamber of Records is for those who are able to record information. This means making it available for others in the guild, recording it for future generations, and determining what knowledge should be shared and what should be guarded.

The Chamber of Instruction is for those who take pleasure in teaching others. Teaching is conducted through many means to many different types of students, and a good teacher should be versatile.

All chambers are equally valued."

Atlas finds a spot in the market to sit on a crate and lean against a wall. He pulls one knee up and lets the other leg dangle over the edge of the crate. He gets comfortable and decides to play a game with himself, trying to pick out people and figure out what each person does for a living. Farmer, merchant, tradesman, pickpocket, guard, adventurer, etc. He thoroughly enjoys himself, even if he gets the feeling he isn't very good at it at first.

Armand nods as Yen speaks. "Very well then I would like to join your organization. I believe I will go for the Chamber of Records. I've already started something of a Library back at the Tree."

Armand then recounts the Wardens trip to the Culverwood where a surface Drow was attempting to combine animal and plant life with disastrous results. "We were able to recover several items from the Drow's various books: Cross-Species Genetics for Ecological Succession, and a journal of Drachen (the Drow in question) where-in his thoughts and notes on his experiments are recorded. We also picked up: The Path of Alchemy, Real Alchemy: A Primer for Practical Alchemy, and Gray's & Burn's Anatomy."

"Also I picked up a few books from a traveling merchant recently; How to Make Friends and Kill Them, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Goblins, Dwarves are From Granite, Elves are From Wood, and Eat, Pray, Kill. Not real heady stuff but I've got a room of empty shelves to fill."

OOC what are the skill points in profession used for, ie do they apply to anything useful? Does Acquisitions give you a bonus on rolls to go through something to determine what it is? Etc.

'Osul smiles at the newest member of the WLA. "We are good to wait for the formalities to conclude, and I think congratulations are in order."

At a later point - likely in transit - he finally asks Elyngael the begging question. "Raised by Druids, you say? When it comes to talking about other druids, I can only tell you something about Mack, and even less about a lady known as "The Amb...", no, "The Emissary", though..." and he briefly looks over to Mack for acknowledgement or not before continuing, "I grow more sure that she is something else, or something more, but less sure what that is. In any case, you were saying...?"

He knows he has more to say, but he is keen to hear tales of druids, and meet other druids, and engage them in a discussion.

OOC: I get the impression that with the vast wonders of Plateau City at your feet that you guys are heading towards splitting up, going everywhere and seeing everything, and this could go on for a while. So, with adventure in mind I'm going to shepherd the flock :)

The party spend the rest of the afternoon seeing the sights of Plateau City. Organisations are joined, shopping is conducted, locals are met, and Mack is kept within sight at all times.

Back at the tavern the party are enjoying their evening meal after the exhaustion of their first day in Plateau City.

At the table behind the party are seated a few half-elves enjoying mugs of ale.
"Have you seen Arlisle tonight? He was supposed to be here. It's his shout after all"
"Typical. No doubt pretending to be sick to avoid taking a single coin from his purse"
"Nah, it's not that. He got called away. Some guy died in the prison and he had to go prepare the body."
"Anyone we know?"
"I don't know. All I know is he got called away."
"Last time he took hours to be done. I swear he does it on purpose. Should we eat without him?"
"I suppose. I was going to order something expensive, but if I have to pay I think I'll just have something small"

Tuesday August 8th, 2017 5:51:18 AM

Atlas determines that the death of someone in jail could be a good thing. Perhaps justice finally caught up with Gaston? The multitude of religious symbols has him wondering though.

Mack is roused from his daydreaming on overhearing the word "demon".

Osul posits that these guys might be Pantheonists - the type who follow the whole Pantheon of the Gods of the Wold rather than one in particular.

Armand though is a little more wary. There is more than one tale of a person escaping jail by feigning death. And Gaston is just smart/dumb enough to try.

Beordir is willing to lay down some gold that Gaston has escaped. Any takers on the wager?

Curiosity gets the better of him and Armand makes himself know to the half-elves. They seem a tad surprised, but pull up some chairs at the party table when Elyngael offers to buy a round. They order drinks before Elyngael can change her mind, and introduce themselves as Alben, Pankas, and Riorin

"Yeah, someone died again. It happens from time to time but it's pretty rare. The city looks after the prisoners so they can serve their sentence in full" Alben declares

"We didn't have any oldies in there at the moment though" Pankas rebuts

"True, true" Riorin nods sagely as he awaits his ale.

Armand offers his service as a cleric of Gargul. It draws grins and a slight chuckle from the three.

"I think we're covered on the cleric front" Pankas grins broadly

"You see, the four of us - us and Arlisle - we're kind of religious advisors to the prisoners. Well, not kind of, we ARE. We go in there to listen, pray with them, help them on the spiritual path, and if they die, see that their remains are treated with respect" Alben explains "That's why Arlisle probably got called away"

"Say, you guys have a unique line of work. I bet you meet a lot of interesting folks and have some stories you could tell. I'll buy another round if you could share some of your more interesting. What do you say? Any secret assassins, serial killers, or those of noble birth that came crashing down? You have to have something that would make for a good story. Atlas feels a little more at ease, and prompts the trio to share a story with the group.

They each lean back a little in their seats and shift a little uncomfortably

"We don't mean to be rude, but I'm sorry. It wouldn't be right to share the things that people have told us in private. A large part of what we do relies on trust. Whatever they choose to share is between us and the gods." Pankas sounds quite serious.

Armand tries a direct approach, and drops Gaston's name

"I'm sorry, I don't know who died. We don't find out until we get the call and arrive at the prison. Arlisle landed that task tonight." Riorin sounds quite apologetic

Beordir and Armand notice Pankas glace to the others and quickly back to his ale. You suspect he has heard the name Gaston before, but his strong sense of duty would seem to prevent him from going into any detail.

Elyngael asks about the tasks these priests seem to have "We don't only advise the dying. Though truth be told that is perhaps the hardest part of our profession. We work with all sorts in that prison. Kids that have fallen on the wrong side of the law, hardened criminals, even some of the guards. Sometimes we provide spiritual guidance, sometimes we are just there to lend a friendly ear." Alben once again holds his head high "In that regards, we choose to follow the Pantheon of the Gods. We carry various holy symbols to better relate to those we speak to. Sometimes we pray with them, sometimes it's just reassuring to see a friendly face bearing the symbol of your deity."

Pankas smiles to Elyngael "I meant no disrespect by referring to some of the prisoners as oldies. My apologies. What I meant was that there were relatively few prisoners of such old age as to be ready to die naturally"

Mack sits in the corner playing with a spider, and catches Riorin's eye

Riorin leans in to Beordir and speaks quietly "It looks like your friend's mind may have been touched by Warrd. I know of a fine temple that cares for people that suffer as he does. I would be happy to help you see him there"

Osul listens quietly, observing those around him. By all accounts these three take their roles very seriously, have a strong sense of duty, and genuinely seem like good spiritual advisors.

'Osul is happy with the words and actions of the Cle... spiritual advisors. He sits a little more comfortably with them, but no so much with the circumstances. "We need to confirm if it is Gaston, and if so we need to sit vigil with the corpse until it is brought to what passes for it final rest here."

"Mack, it may not be tonight, but I have no intention of heading back to The Tree, or Sawdust for that matter, until I have spent a good while in the Druid Quarter."

DM RobC - "they need to see that I am ready for whatever is to come"
Thursday August 10th, 2017 5:26:31 AM

Atlas becomes a little less interested in the trio when it becomes clear he won't be hearing any juicy stories.

Armand asks a little more about the process for disposing of the dead bodies "It all depends on the persons religion and their choices. Most opt for burial, some for cremation, some even want a burial at sea. If it is within reason we try and accomodate." Alben advises "Those who want to be buried here are given small plots in the Shanty Quarter. It's even earned the nickname Memorial Quarter. Unless the person who died followed Wardd, the burial won't happen tonight. Next of kin will be given the chance to say goodbye, and after that, well, the body goes to where it needs to go"

Beordir makes his way over to Mack and wonders why he hasn't squisked the spider already. Mack for his part is feeling cooped up. He wants to get out and about, not sit in the corner.

Osul also has no intention of leaving Plateau without a visit to the Druid Quarter.

He feels a little better with the "spiritual advisors", but expresses his desire to confirm the identity of the corpse and sit vigil with it.

That's about the time when Elyngael acuses the trio of being loud and indiscreet, and puts her hand to her blade.

It would seem that "spiritual advisors" have quite good perception skills.

Pankas stops drinking and holds his mug quite still. He slowly leans back in his chair, alarmed. Alben and Riorin also go silent. "Wait, we're having a drink wondering where our friend is. You eavesdrop on us, but invite us for a drink. Our job is no secret. In fact, I'm rather proud of it. I'm happy to tell people in the hope it will give them comfort that everyone - regardless of status - deserves faith and a kind ear. Indiscreet?!? You and your friends have been plying us with ale to try and get us to betray our oathes!" Pankas pauses and looks closely at Elyngael, before nodding "Oh. I see what's going on here now. You followed us here! This Gaston person is a friend of yours and you want us to give something away! Look! Despite the peacebond in force, she's already preparing to attack us! No doubt use us as hostages to help get her friend released" His voice is rising and gaining the attention of other patrons.

"Calm down, Pankas" Alben says calmly yet firmly to Pankas "I doubt they would attack us with so many witnesses around. Let's take it easy" The mood at the table has certainly changed.

Pankas shakes his head as he rises from the table. Riorin is quick to join him and Alben calmly follows suit. "If I see you come anywhere near us again I will be calling the guards" Pankas says very pointedly to Elyngael, before looking to the rest of the party. "Thanks for the drink"

The trio of clerics leave the tavern, looking over their shoulders as they do so.

A few of the patrons are looking at the party. Even the tavern owner looks a little nervous.

It has been a long day. Hopefully tomorrow will be easier.

His defensive posture not needed recently, he decides to practice that today. He starts completely barehanded working through Catching the Wind. Then with his sword edge, he works through the forms of Shield of Sticks.

Warmed up, he heads back into the inn to see if anyone wants to hit the marketplace for breakfast.

Seeing Atlas, Armand waves him over to the table. "Hope you slept well. I could get use to these soft beds. Then again, maybe not. Those cleric's last night were certainly a waste of time. I wonder if they have left many taverns because they can't interpret inquery versus outright intimidation." He laughs. "Remember that time we encountered the fur trader? Man that was great, he was shaking in fear, all because we got off on the wrong foot. But at least he stuck it out, and look how that turned out, good for us and for him."

Once the breakfast arrives Armand will eat. "I suppose we have to go see what Gaston may be up to today. If he's still alive. It had better be good or I vote we go back to the Tree."

Mack: awakens, the pretends to have...always..been awake??

Atlas: awakens and as quietly as a bull in a china shop dresses and goes down for breakfast.

Armand: rises early, eats a hearty breakfast and contemplates going to see Gaston today.

‘Osul: flys around the city, then comes back to the inn for breakfast.

Boerdir gets some strange looks as he practices his Kata's in the street, he does well though and a few towns people watch him with interest. when he finishes up they throw some coins at his feet. (you make 8 copper pieces for your performance.)

Elyngael it turns out is the most annoying of people. she is of the ones who wake up happy. Being so happy she agrees with Armond that today would be a good day to go see Gaston.

Once everyone is fed, the group sets off to go visit Gaston in Prison. The Prison is located adjunct to the Gladiators quarters but now walled off from the arena. The Vetting process to get in to see Gaston is fairly involved, and quite fascinating if you are into prisoner transfer and visitor protocol, but really really frustrating, embarrassing and somewhat scandalous. Luckily once you are in, you are in. A guard escorts you to Gastons cell.

His cell looks pristine compared to some that you have seen in the past. The walls are smooth, polished stone. The bars look… mithral? He has a comfortable bed, fresh linen, a clean latrine, a mirror, and even a few books. There are peasants who don’t have it this good! Gaston is lying on the bed, looking up at the ceiling.

“All prisoners have rights” the guard mentions “But don’t be fooled by the small luxuries we provide. Any breach of our orders is dealt with VERY swiftly”

“There are no warnings here. The rules are explained to the prisoners on their arrival. Failing to immediately obey an order will result in an immediate casting of ‘Binding’. The prisoner will only be freed for legal hearings or to meet with their attorney, after which they will be returned to their binds. The duration is indefinite and will only be dismissed if the prisoner can convince the Warden that they regret their actions”

“Of course, that can be difficult if the Warden chooses to put them in a slumber” he adds with a wink and a smile.

“Prisoner 24602 You have visitors!

Gaston stands and looks at the party. “No need to look so smug”

“Who says they caught me? Maybe I meant to be caught?”
The shaking of his bottom lip seems a strong indication this isn’t exactly true. In fact, it seems a flat out lie.

“Listen, I heard they called you here to tell them what you think of me. Maybe I have some information that will change your minds? Maybe I know something that’s worth something to you?”

I know we haven’t gotten along in the past, I don’t like you, and you don’t like me. That’s a given. I really don’t want to go to prison, and the information I have is valuable. Can we make a deal? I promise I will leave you alone from now on. I will be as dead to you at worst, and I’ll owe you big time at best.

Armand burst out laughing at Gaston's 'request'. "Oh, that's rich Gaston. Really. But you don't get it. You're in prison and I suspect you're going to stay here. The question is are you going to stay here for a nice long time or just a short time until they hang you?"

Armand pauses for dramatic effect, and to wipe the laughter tears from his eyes. "You see Gaston we've already given our depositions. The only thing you can really hope for is to appeal to the mercy of the court, maybe if you showed honest guilt and regret the court would be somewhat lenient. Because speaking for myself, nothing you say is going to change my opinion of you because I would not believe anything you said."

However, I'm usually the one that pays the biggest price. Atlas motions to show that he has no fur to show for their run in with the trader.

When the group runs into Gaston Atlas immediately feels the anger rise up in him again, but this time it is a cool, thoughtful anger. Not that burning flame that causes him to do stupid things. "Armand has the way of it. While I'm inclined to help you get out so that I can kill you, I suspect that at best you would be imprisoned for life and I wouldn't have that chance. Best to just watch you hang I guess. However, if there's something you want to give us to help out some innocent people then maybe we can work with the authorities to make your death a quick one."

"Let me see if I can explain because summing up may not get through to you."

"First off, what did you expect when you summoned us? Crying eyes? No we are not going to change our depositions and lie to get you out of something that your own actions got you in. In fact you really should be happy you are in such plush surroundings. If you were free, I'm fairly certain that Atlas," he points to Atlas and drops the bad cop intimidate sign, "and this young lady would make it their business to track you down and administer some street justice."

"Second. We don't have any kind of influence to get the court to change their stance on you. It doesn't mean we won't listen to what you have to say, report it to the court, and see if the COURT wants us to investigate, WHICH could lead to some form of lenience for you."

"Third. You've already tipped your hand. Two of us are now members of the Sages Guild, which means we record all that we see and hear for posterity. It also means, even if you don't tell us what's going on, we're still going to REPORT IT TO THE COURT and see what they intend to do about it. I should think that withholding information that could potentially lead to the deaths of many, will not bode well for your sentencing."

"Fourth. I've heard there's been some mysterious deaths in the prison." Armand is deliberately using the plural. "Seems strange. Have you been talking to other inmates? Do some of them know that you have precious information? DOES someone outside of prison know you have precious information and is trying to unsuccessfully eliminate that threat?"

"So you see Gaston, your best hope, no matter what, is option two, which is to tell us what you know. But it's up to you."

Away the cell, but not the jail, 'Osul asks, "Does anyone mind if I take a minute or two to try to mend fences after last evening? We are known to some people, as is our connection to The Tree. There is no gain for us or those at home in letting a poor first impression be the last impression. It was itinerant gentlemen such as those that would travel through small farming communities performing rites and ceremonies..."

Now hearing it said, a thought strikes 'Osul. Do any of the symbols relate to Culverwood, or otherwise look familiar from his childhood? This may be worth checking when (and if) he sees them again. Perception: 28, Knowledge (Religion): 10

He regains focus and continues as though he hadn't paused at all. "We don't need Liliput put on the wrong side of this, just as we don't want to make trade any more troublesome."

Mack: chaotic being that he is, pulls antics that would normally get him put in jail. Fortunately, since he is a halfling, nobody really pays attention to him.

Atlas: Hatches a plan to poison Gaston, drawing a look from the guard.

Armand: speaks eloquently to Gaston, but the man has clammed up and pointedly ignores you

‘Osul: is done with this and is ready to go.

Boerdir gets the feeling that nobody likes Gaston, he's ready to leave as well.

Elyngael Knows where to get what Atlas needs, but finds that she no longer needs Gaston.

the guard motions towards the door. Alright you lot, The man does not want your company. He walks you down the hall to the block exit. You'd be surprised how often that happens. Prison can to that to a man.... he prattles on as he unlocks the door but as the door opens multiple large beasts rise up out of the ground. the one in the lead punches the guard so hard it knocks him into the other wall , where he crumbles into a heap.
Make a DC 15 check vs Dungeoneering or a DC 13 check vs Planes to identify the creatures.
The other creatures actuall Phase through the walls to either side of the door to come into the hall. moving through the stone walls as if they weren't there.

Mack: You now have your belt of dexterity(email me your receipt please!) Much to your surprise the creature does not have a flank! This is so daunting that your blows miss the creature. Squeever though has no such failing and grabbes on to one of the creatures three legs.

Atlas: The advantage of flanking does not seem to work with this thing, the swing of your sword is good though and hits the beast soldly.

Mack: runs out the door, only to find that way is blocked by where the hall has collapsed. you can get in the hall, and even close the door, but the way is blocked.

Atlas: turns to run provoking an AOO his armor blocks all but one attack, he takes 6 points of damage during his retreat.

Armand: panics, forgetting that Xorn have DR5/bludgoning so that the arrows, swords, squirrel teeth and other pokey cutty bits don't do as much. His healing washes over the party easing their pain.

‘Osul: Summons an earth elemental, It appears rising up from the ground and moves to attack The Elemental and the Xorn both make noises in their language as they fight. If you speak Earth elemental
Highlight to display spoiler: { Elemental: Bob! what are you doing here?
Bob: Ah! Geplak, same as you, got summoned to do the bidding of some magic user. OOfff! good hit!
Geplak: Thanks! Hows your Agenepaw?
Bob: Ah you know, crystal formation and slow time, we enjoy the sauce.
Geplak: LOL!
}

Boerdir releases the power of his spell. Sticky webs fill the area and capture two of the elementals, but they also capture him as well! one of the Xorn is well and truely stick, but the other is merely blocked in by the wall of webs.

Elyngael brings the hammer down! but gets nothing but air! Her cat Khan though has more success. clawing and biting at the rocky mass to some effect.

The web trapped Xorn powers out of the webs around it, but it's still stuck in the middle of the web mass. the second trapped Xorn moves down and becomes trapped in the webs!

the Xorn at F6 splits it's attack between the Elemental, Atlas, and Elyngale. The elemental takes a bite for 20 and Elyngale takes a swipe for 4.

OOC: Thanks for the coverage everybody!!! :) I'm getting caught up. Looks like DR5, no flanking, so basically Squeaver and I are completely useless. We're trying to run away as fast as possible? ;)

I'll figure out what I can do to save as many as possible and post something useful here today. Need to get my stats updated here with my new item that came in before this battle started as well. Shane, you should have already received the item receipt via e-mail, but I will send again.

I think the map is now correct, I moved the web zone further back on the page so the under images are now on top. Mack you should be just outside the door, apparently that hallway is collapsed. Beordir, your square is half on half off, don't know if you need to save to get out of the web or not.

Armand shouts, "Fall back and reform. Guard your only chance is to come down this way!"

Armand casts Shield of Faith on Atlas, +3 to AC.
He then burns his last hero point and casts Shield of Faith on Elyngael. +3 to AC.

"Does anyone have acid flasks?"

And then he takes a 5 foot step back to E10.

OOC: I may be getting my games mixed up, but isn't this the game where I tried to stab someone in the back and was told that there "is no back... it's assumed we can see in all directions, and flanking is just attacking from both directions simultaneously regardless of where the enemy can see?" So do the Xorn truly have resistance to flanking because they have 3 eyes? And would that also apply to my extra rogue damage then as well? I'm guessing these are all irrelevant questions at this point, but just curious. ;)

If I'm understanding my predicament correctly, I attempt to move back towards the group (moving half speed towards H4, using an acrobatic maneuver if necessary to avoid an attack of opportunity and the webs).

(d20+25 acrobatics check of 43)

Is Gaston the only prisoner in the area? Does the Xorn seem to be moving in his general direction? If so, I have Squeaver attempt to free Gaston from his chamber so he can fight for his life. I don't see others on the map, so I'm assuming the other chambers are empty, but wanted to make sure.

Knowing the spell is going off, Beordir squats a little to make himself a smaller target, and tries to slide backwards as the spell fills up in front of him. Alas he is not fast enough and gets grabbed by his own spell.

Using his arms to help pull his legs free, Beordir is able to untangle himslef and step back five feet and out of the radius of effect. He turns to face the beastie next to him, bring his rapier between it and him.

"They're somewhat trapped. I don't want to let Gaston out, but I've bought us a little time to decide what to do about those other two."

Mack: with grace, good footwork and a bit of contortion, slips out of the webs.

Atlas: strikes, his sword whiffs past the xorn, bounces off it's stony hide and on the third strike finds it's way through the beast's flesh.

Armand: perhaps mistaking DR for regeneration calls the party to retreat, his shield of faith covers some of his comrades in protection.

‘Osul:'s elemental swings wildly at the Xorn, missing badly His lightning hits, but grounds out to the..ground.

Boerdir gets caught in his spell but manages to slip out. he speaks to the party offering advice to and time to get things done.

Elyngael swings her hammer once, twice, Three times. Four Times, smaking the Xron soundly with the third.

the guard moves towards the Exit at the bottom of the map. the two drow in the webs move slowly towards the battle.

the one in the battle becomes very interested in Elyngael, it seems that it does not like the hammer. it dedicates all of it's attacks her way, luckily Armands SOF helps to deflect all but one claw swipe for 5 points.

Elyngael suddenly surprised by the drow in the battle is alarmed even though they are caught in the web. Since they seem caught, she focuses her attack on the Xorn again. She swings her hammer and misses (d20 + 11 = 16). She tries again for a second miss (d20 + 6 = 19). She takes a five foot step back and is now at F9, and attempts to talk to the drow. "Greetings" in Elvish.

Channel energy, excluding the Xorn at F7. Everyone is healed 15 points. (including the earth elemental)

"I have no spells to effect these things. We have few weapons that can effect these things. That's why I'm calling for a retreat Mack. Maybe if we could face them one at a time, with a united front we'd have a chance. But with earthglide, these things could flank us way to easily. Gaston has been unusually quite. Check him out."
