"Thanks Cameron. I was strongly motivated to not spend a second day feeling like that. I find no end of wonder in the things we will do to get a good nights rest."

When the question of our reaching our destination today is posed, 'Osul pulls a bit of something out of a pouch and clenches his left fist tightly around it and casts an Orizon.{Survival Check*: 25}
"I'm not sure about the urgency of our getting to the beacon, but I like the chances of this damp weather breaking for tomorrow, and we will travel faster not wrapped up against the rain. I think a day might be a fair trade for fairer weather and travel." He waits, expecting a full conversation on the matter, and scouts about for any more intact arrows amongst the fallen for their new found bows, and whatever else may present itself {Perception Check*: 27]

He pitches in on Camouflaging the digs {guessing a separate Survival Check*: 21 plus Zee's Touch of Destiny},

----OOC----
* All of these Checks would benefit from at least an additional +2 for the Forest Walker feat if we could be described as being in a wood or forest. Note: The Kanji for forest is written with two identical symbols, each meaning tree, so if you can see two trees you are in a forest!?!

Zee is ready to go back, unless other object.

Posting as Atlas (Cade R)
Thursday April 2nd, 2015 10:23:31 AM

Atlas hates the idea of losing another day, but a rest might be the best thing. Osul is confident that the weather will be terrible tonight and better tomorrow. The tactics of the situation might be improved by letting a few more goblins and orcs wear themselves down for a night. He says as much to the others.

As they walk in the rain Cameron reminds Carver that they are not the only defenders of the Tree. " We are just the front line of defenders for the Tree. We do the heavy lifting and go out to meet threats before they reach the Tree itself. The real defenders of the Tree train every day to defend it from threats like these. Imagine those goblins getting to the Tree and finding a couple of dozen archers out of their reach firing arrows down upon them. The same goes for the Ogres. If we are able to plant the seed that the Tree is well defended, not by cracking skulls but by convincing would be warloeds with our words... Then the Tree will be much safer."
Cameron is flattered that the rest of the group has so much faith in his beliefs in Jancassis that they let him lead the way to the Beacon. However he can't help but think that they might be there already if any of those trained in tracking had been leading. Jancassis teaches him to know enough to keep himself alive, but his tracking and wilderness skills pale in comparison to 'Osul's or Crosseye's. He has also seen how poorly they all fight when tired, so despite the fact that turning off the Beacon as soon as possible is very important, he agrees that returning to the shelter and trying again in the morning without this blasted rain, would be a better idea.
He pauses as they reach the campsite though and takes just a few minutes to hide himself and observe the shelter before actually approaching it. They camouflaged it, but that doesn't mean someone else in this crowded landscape hasn't found it and taken up residence in their absence. When he is sure the coast is clear he will continue on.

OOC: Graham, yes, you are in a forest... hill forest.
'Osul reads the clouds and the winds and prognosticates the next day the weather will improve, and that is better to wait for it and arrive to the beacon rested.
Walter, getting to know his new companions, also thinks tomorrow will be easier to travel.
Zee also asks to go back at least for today.
Atlas, even while lamenting the lost time, accepts.
Cameron reminds you the Tree is defended also by others, and that communicating that to the monstrous inhabitants of the Red hills could bring great benefits. Remembering the problems being fatigued carry, he also votes for returning.
Mack also thinks you should turn back.
Carver comments you need to buy another tent while returning to camp.
Crosseye follow quietly. As now 'Osul navigates, he is able to see the surrounding terrain with more detail.
---
Cameron approaches the camp cautiously, and find it intact. Your camouflage worked at least for that day.
Back at your camp 'Osul looks for more salvageable equipment, but finds nothing. He also improves the camouflage.
Zee plays with Pips for a while.
Carver spends a couple hours preparing his weapons and armor for the next day.
---
During the night the rain stops, and you can rest quietly and easy. The dawn brings a clear sunny day. The weather change was incredible.
Only the beacon piercing the night interrupts your rest...
You start advancing now at a great pace, in a dry terrain, a green day of flowers and birds chirping.
You arrive at the scene of the goblin battle you saw the previous day, and see carrion birds feeding on the carcasses.
You continue forward.
---
Some four hours before dusk you approach the beacon source. It should be beyond the next hill, you think.
How do you approach it?

OoC sorry about missing but Easter came up and ended up out of town

I agree with the Druid he is much more skilled at survival ten me right now, but I continue to learn each and everyday. That night I help with the camp duties again and get some sleep before my watch. I do agree with Carver we should get a tent or some sort of portable stealthier next time! While on watch I ask 'Osul more about his home and family life. I really like having another similar to me yet so much different . We compliment each other and I like working and learning from him.

The next day after breakfast and camp is cleaned ip I get ready to set off I let 'Osul take the lead and follow behind watch his skill trying to help and learn what I might of missed in the passed. I think to myself "You can and are always learning"

When the area where the beacon is (just I over the hill) I go stealth. I say to the group "Stay here I will try to scout ahead in stealth. But if anyone want to come lets do the quitetly and see what we might be in for!" I then fade into the shadows and quitetly head to see what is over the hill!

In the morning, Cameron asks Zee to do the opposite of what she normally does each morning to clean everyone up with her magic." Hear me out, I have a plan. If we show up as dirty, down on our luck adventurers that have been to the Tree and found it to be too tough of a nut to crack, we can make the monsters not want to go there. All that without having to fight them. I hope."
When they reach the goblin battle site Cameron takes a look around with detect magic, just incase the victors left anything behind.
At the edge of the site of the Beacon, Cameron waits for Zee to use her new spell to link them to her, so that they can relay information back to those who are not stealthy. Once that is done, he also slips off into the scrub and heads over the hill to see what he can see. He quietly whispers what he sees back to the others.

So, we go down there like we belong here and tell them that the Brothers sent us to the Beacon and we need to go inside. I wear my holy symbol on the outside and if they know what's good for them they let us in. If we blow this by looking like prey or like we don't belong or they just don't believe us, the plan AT LEAST gets us blade to blade with them with none of that running up and down hills like we did yesterday. These goblins are in, for lack of a better term, uniforms. They have goblins giving orders but none of them are hurt among all that carnage down there. I think they have leadership more than what we see. I also think they have some kind of caster, probably a healer since they are not hurt. If we attack them straight up, even with surprise and that leadership shows up unannounced we could be in trouble."
"If we try to bluff our way in we might succeed or if we have to fight we might get to see all their cards before they see ours. At the very least if we make it to the tunnel we can stop them from coming at us from 3 out of 4 directions. It is a much better place to fight."

At the same time, the fact that you unleashed some fire towards the enemy could be a signal for us to spring into action in case something goes wrong"

Walter pulls out his alchemist fire from his backpack and holds it in his hand.

The bluff thing sound interesting but how far will it get up who knows. Line the others I think we will still be in for a fight. But we must control it and take every advantage we can get. As to placement getting to the tunnel sounds good. It keeps all us all close and our fighters and excell there. With the support protected behind. It would limit the amount of attackers at one time, but what is in that tunnel? What might come from it who knows and if there we close off a lot of escape routes. Do to the size of group they are, open fight would be problem madic. We would get overrun. Could we divid them and then kill off in smaller groups? Also what special powers do their leader/s have? What of a night attack under darkness. Waiting them out from a distance and see if they move on or lower in size? These are things we need to consider and take into account working on our plan!"

OOC: The equipment you got from the golbins is small, so a medium character can used it with a -2 to their attack rolls, and damage is for small weapons.
The entrance to the cave is in the next hill, it would be impossible to reeach it without beign noticed...
This time you will be coming down a hill, into the goblins.
The battle don't seem recent.

Cameron checks around and finds a couple boulder that with some effort can be lossened and thrown down the hill into the goblins.
OOC: So what is the plan?

"Unless you disagree, I think that we need to have someone stay up here, when things go badly. We can roll boulders down on the goblins, and I will focus on taking out the robed one that uses the magic." Zee is skeptical of the plan that involves the bluff and wants to fight using the terrain to the party's advantage. That said, she urges a plan go forward, "We have planned enough, the longer we wait the more likely we will be found."

Between boulders, bows and magic we have a good chance of taking them from up here, but there's also a good chance that they just go into the tunnel and wait us out, or even worse, get backups. There's no perfect plan here and I like to stick with the simple approach when all things are considered equal.

"Anyone with a ranged weapon, let's line up. Carver and others, would you mind knocking a few of those boulders down on them when they start up the hill? The only thing remaining is to get them to come up. Cameron, I imagine you have something up your sleeve to get them to start charging up this hill?

Atlas pulls out his bow and realizes that it has been quite a while since he has shot it. He takes a few pulls on the string to get the feel for it again and then gets ready to head to the top of the hill after Cameron does his thing.

Cameron cocks his head for a moment, as if listening to someone none of the rest of you can hear. As he does a smile spreads across his face.
" Why not, it might work. Sure, I have a plan. Tell me when you are ready, and I will start fuming like a lone dwarf, in dwarven. At the very least it will get them to send the dogs. Best case they will all come. I would suggest being ready to drop the dogs as soon as they crest the hill. They are tough by canine standards but if we are ready for them we should be able to kill them as soon as they crest the ridge. If we do then we make it sound like the dwarf is hurt and the goblins will come to finish him. Then we roll the rocks through them and shoot them up. If they reach us or turn tail we finish them in melee. I think it'll work. I speak dwarven, the trick will be hitting the lower register that most dwarves use. I am confident I can do it. Tell me when those rocks are ready and I'll start the ruse."
Cameron additionally grabs one of the long spears the goblins were using to set against the expected charge by the dogs.

Pick whatever language they might even remotely understand, and add some spitting and angry faces to get the point across. I don't care if it is one or all of them, we have the advantage of the hill and I don't want to lose that by hiding while we hope the dogs come up and attack us on level ground. Two halflings should provide the perfect bait...no offense" Atlas cracks a smile thinking about that, but you can tell he meant no offense.

Lacking the patience to talk everyone through this, Atlas walks around and lines everyone up.

OOC: David...yeah, probably was a waste of a few days, but we're a group still getting to know each other and a forum game doesn't really allow us to have a quick back and forth to figure out the best approach. My goal was to get 3-4 of them to run up the hill after the halflings. After they get about half way up we all pop up and start attacking, then the rest rush up. Those few rounds of division, because we know how hard it is to climb a hill, would have been very helpful. Defeat the 3-4, then defeat the rest. However, I apparently failed to explain it well, because folks didn't do that. That falls on me. I'll try to explain better next time, but either way I would appreciate it if we accepted that this isn't going to be perfect and we just have fun with the way things happen and work with it. Had your post been in character I would have accepted it as playing it out (heck that sounds very Cameron to be honest with you), but your post was OOC, which has a completely different meaning IMO and I'm having a hard time finding positive intent in it.

She aims at the robed figure, and unleashes another magic missile toward the goonie [I will target the Chieftian if others have killed the wizard.] Zee is afraid of the tricky mind of goblins and watches for a trap.

OOC
Miguel, in a surprise round, which is what we just resolved, you get one action, move or standard. Thus alot of the actions that were posted never happened. Some were full round things like rapid fire, some folks thought we were on to the next round already, even my added shot was more than the surprise round allowed for, so we hit the guys that we hit, they react and mostly hid and now we take out the trash that's left in sight, namely the chief and the robed goblin. Probably, Corsario just downgraded any actions that were too much to single shots using the first roll any of us made.
To reiterate what John said, Trey, the range listed in the first range increment where no penalties apply for range. Most thrown weapons go out to I think 5 range categories, adding -2 for each, and bows and crossbows can go to 10 range categories at -2 for each. Believe it or not some battles we have fought in Agents of the Fist started at 10 range categories. They were against lightly armored foes and there were far out hits, but only for people with plenty of skill and spectacular rolls. At that kind of range you hope for a 20, anything else is just too low. I am up against a -4 for non-proficiency, but at only 1 range category I still have a shot so I am making the rolls. Like Cade, I am waiting for the other shoe to drop, because this is just too easy. We may need that big rock for whatever comes next. I am just afraid that whatever we roll it at, might throw it back.

Cameron's and Walter's arrows miss badly.
Crosseye fires at the goblin "wizard", which is taking cover behind a cart, almost invisible from your place. Those of you with good sight see how Crosseye's arrow falls just next to the cart border and digs itself on the goblin's eye, killing it instantly.
Mack fires at another goblin, covered by a tree, and the branches stops his arrow.
Zee fires a magic attack at the chieftain, whose pain howling reach even that far away. She looks around fearing an ambust, but sees nothing.
With no other "good sized boulders" around, both Carver and Atlas join forces trying to move the BBBoD (Big Bad Boulder of Destruction). The huge boulder starts to raise from his resting place, and sudently, and making a huge noise, starts rolling down the hill side.
Some of the goblins have the good sense to run away from the path, but a couple doesn't. The boulder tramples trees, ground, goblins, cart and chieftain leaving a swat of mud, splinters, blood and bone in his path.
There remain 5 goblin warrior and 6 goblin dogs. The goblin dogs, in the confusion after the BBBoD are freed to run towards you, charging, barking and howling while advancing! They should be on top of you next turn.
Only three goblins manage to fires their bows, against Carver, Atlas and Zee.
Carver is hit for 2 hp, and Zee for 1 hp.
OOC: No more boulders...

She had been in fights in the orphanage, she had had a scrap or two with the street kids that prowled the districts and quarters of Plateau City, but Orba dreaded this day. The day that she took damage in battle: Would she run scared, would she fail her team, or would she die from the wound?

As Zee pulled the poorly crafted arrow from her thigh it was not fear, or terror, or even despair that she felt... It was cold, furious rage! How dare those toady, little mug-whumps fire at her and hers! How dare they! She found quick resolve and furious focus hurled the next magic missile at a chattering, laughing goblin's oversized head. Maybe, Crosseye's arrow did get stopped by a tree, but Zee's wasn't.

Zee slipped her kukri from her scabbard. Maybe she had not been trained perfectly how to use the chopping tool, but goblin dogs had not been trained how to deal with her either!

'Osul mentioned in passing that as a rule, dogs, wolves, in general most canines use trip against their opponents. The Goblin dogs have done none of this. Zee is tougher than many of us and can take care of herself. If every 'guy' in the group rushes over to the 'girl' in the group every time she gets a boo boo we will all die horribly.
That was my out of character version, now Cameron will turn on his charm in character.
By the way, Cade you didn't add the 7 points of healing to your header, They might be reacting to the low HP total you still have up there.
Miguel if you can move and draw a weapon you can move and ready a shield.

IC
Cameron, the smallest and frailest of the group heads down the hill to take care of business and... half the group rushes over to take care of a functional and as far as he could tell, very angry Zee. Cameron had not failed to see the reaction she had when first wounded. It wasn't fear, it was anger and a desire for revenge. The Lady had special plans for Zee, Cameron had no doubt. Odd she could not see the threads of fate that danced around her. They found Zee, comfortably surviving in a forest that was ready and able to rip them apart without any problem. It will take far more than some goblin arrows to kill her. At least Mack is returning fire while gawking.
Cameron's acidic voice can be heard from below.
" Guys, the goblins with the bows are not going to stop shooting her if you make her look important by running over there to look at her wound. She has already manned up and rubbed some dirt in it and carried on. I suggest the rest of you do the same. I can't kill these by myself and if all the warriors stand up there fawning over Zee's boo boo you will have matching ones real soon. The mostly unmolested goblins with the bows and uniforms guarantee it. Now quit lollygagging and kill some goblins."
Cameron is sure he is not a popular guy right now. Sooner or later he may need to work on his social interactions with his friends. Apparently today would not be that day.

OOC: Walter, you have a standard action and a move action. Put yourself in front of Zee is a move action. With your standard action you can make an attack, move again, or get your shield out. I will say you get your shield out.
OOC: David F: Yes, I "winged" Zee's falling to prone position. Just for "thrills". No harm done, I think. On the other hand, I think is very good RP from some of the others to try and protect a badly hurt companion (not necessarily because is a girl). In "real life" that happens a lot, you stop to help the hurt comrades instead of pursuing combat. And I think is VERY good RP for Cameron not to do it, and feel angry at the others for what they did.

-----
Before the goblin dog can attack 'Osul Carver uses his lance to try and kill it. He opens a big gash in the dog's flank, but even so the single mindedness of the dog makes it continue its attack.
He follows up trying to make attacks both with his longsword and shield but fails, as he is not used to use both.
Walter gets his shield out and stands in front of Zee, covering her with his own body.
Zee screams in pain, but manages to remember the magic apple she carries. She eat it and feel her wounds closing. She stands behind Walter.
Crosseye, worried, helps Zee stand.
'Osul feels a powerful itch in the zone where he was bitten, but manages to keep his mind in the fight ahead and kills the goblin dog using his Quarterstaff, with a well placed hit to its head.
Atlas braces against the dog attack and manages to avoid the nasty bite. He lashes out with his sword again and manages to catch the dog in front of him with the tip of his blade, carving a significant gash in the creatures neck and shoulder.
Cameron tries to move past the Goblin Dog, which in turn takes a bite on him (His Attack of Opportunity against Cameron moving away while threatened). Cameron feels the teeth on his thigh, but his armor protects him from harm.
He moves halfway the distance towards the archers (He can reach them next turn) and call for Jancassis protection.
Mack fires on an archer, hitting him.
-----
1 very hurt (2 HP remaining) in front of Atlas and another left behind by Cameron, unharmed.
5 Goblins archers left, only 1 hurt (3 hp left).
-----
The goblin dog in front of Atlas tries to bite him again. It clasp on Atlas leg, trying to shake the human warrior, but Atlas is unharmed and stable.
The other goblin dog attacks 'Osul, but while trying to pass over the dead dog in front of 'Osul its attack is far away from the Druid.
The archers see Cameron charging them, and proceed to let a rain of arrows fall on the lonely halfling.
The arrows are shot point back to the halfling body, but the observant within your group see how the arrows are magically deflected away, and only one of them manage to make a small flesh wound on the cleric (incredible only 1 hp of damage to Cameron).
One of the goblin archers have his bow break, and proceeds to draw a dogslicer, growling at the cleric.

With only one dog left, and it being wounded, Carver looks down the hill, smiles and charges at the closest Goblin. (remember he only needs 10' in a straight line to charge the rest can be twists and turns)

Attacking with his sword, he swings away at one of them.

Cameron smiles. As far as those archers are concerned, Carver is only the death aspect of Gargul. Grouped together he doubts that any of them will even hit the centaur before he tramples them into goo. The dog has left him in search of easier targets, he hopes that the new guy, Walter he thinks it was, can finish the dog that thought he was too tough. With cold detachment Cameron moves toward the archers. The nick to his cheek a strident reminder of The Lady's faith in him, as he puts his faith in her. The Lady's hand has protected him, and now he repays the favor by taking vengeance for all these goblins have ever done. The whip moves like a deadly viper in his hand. 10 feet from the one with the dogslicer Cameron stops, and the whip snaps out wrapping for the briefest instant around the dogclicer and ripping it from his grip. the weapon clatters to the ground out of his reach and now he stands with a stinging hand vs the raging centaur paladin. Cameron's cold smile and empty eyes tell the archer turned footman all that he needs to know. Death and vengeance have come for him today, and he will not leave this field alive.
" Disarmed the brave one Carver, slay them at your leisure. I have your back. Thanks for having mine brother."

Atttack to disarm succeeds vs a CMD of 24, if it can be critical it confirms to 14. The dogslicer should go spinning from his hand unless he has superglue to hold it there 8). Any goblins adjacent to Cameron ( I don't intend to let there be any, but it could happen) with melee weapons get an AoO vs Cameron for using the whip near them.
Any goblins that move toward Cameron that provoke an AoO he tries to trip beating CMD 8 ( so none, basically) Please remember that Cameron only threatens the squares near him, not the 15 foot reach of the whip ( odd, I know, but the rules as I read them)

The itching is really annoying.

----OOC----
'Osul is suffering an Allergic Reaction (Ex): A goblin dog's dander is highly irritating to all creatures save those with the goblinoid subtype. A non-goblinoid creature damaged by a goblin dog's bite, who deals damage to a goblin dog with a natural weapon or unarmed attack, or who otherwise comes into contact with a goblin dog (including attempts to grapple or ride the creature) must make a DC 12 Fortitude save or break out in an itching rash. A creature affected by this rash takes a -2 penalty to Dexterity and Charisma for 1 day (multiple allergic reactions do not stack). Remove disease or any magical healing removes the rash instantly. Zee stands at the top of the hill, and is all the sound, fury, and arcana that one can embody at this early stage of her career. Yes, there is rage and anger at being hurt... at her friends being attacked... at the general evil taint of the goblin race. It is rage, anger, but it is tempered, and Zee uses that temperament to hurl a silver and gold bullet straight past Cameron's left ear at a goblin archer.

More than just the angry thirst for justice, there is love and loyalty for her little family. Her little group of heroes in this horrible place that seems to grow each and every day. "Go, Walter, Cameron is going to be used for a pin cushion with out you." Zee smiles because she has more up her sleeve, "I can handle the next part." Zee slips her hand out and captures the last threads of the first spell and soon jerks a knot into the magic and unleashes a second spell. This one hurtles around Cameron's right year to hit yet another goblin. Complaining little dwarf in halfling breeches, she sneers to herself.

I put a "note" in your post to warn you about it, maybe you didn't see it. Also, you can't charge "around the area of entangle", only directly... But it is same to say you can move to reach one of them and "explode" him...

OOC: Read Centaur Charge... as a Centaur with the feat, you can move the full distance in any series of movements, and only the final 10' of movement is required to be in a straight line. Example... I start charging east, go 30', take a corner around a building and charge 10' traveling less than my full charge, but because the final10' are straight at my target, it's a charge move. If I wanted to, I run away from a target, charging, turn 180 degrees and charge straight back at the guy I went away from, as long as the final 10' are straight it's still a charge move. So yes, a Centaur with the feat can charge around the entangle.
This is why a map is important, because if they had split up to attack everyone as it seemed they had, the area in front of Carver should have been open enough to pass through, with out an AoO, but its neither here or there now.....

Carver will chase down the remaining Goblin, they're evil, they cause destruction, he's a paladin and killing him now just probably will save someones life in the future.

That is the plan anyway might be good to have a lead dog or searcher into the unknown. If possible.

Atlas watches Crosseye try to sooth the dog. The second time it seems to go better. However, if that is not enough then Atlas just tries to shoo the dog away. If that doesn't work and it's still looking like it is going to attack us then he tries to put it out of its misery. Unfortunately the dog is quite agile.

Atlas goes to the entry of the tunnel and inspects it to see what he observes.

End of Combat, A search of the camp
Wednesday April 22nd, 2015 11:06:46 PM

Carver chases down and kills the fleeing goblin.
Crosseye tries to communicate with the Goblin Dog. The resulting bristling if fur and growling hiss with bared teeth assures him of his failure to make headway on that front.
Mack stands at the ready in case the creature makes a move at Crosseye. It does not.
Osul voices his opinion the animal simply be allowed to run off.
Zee moves and provides it an avenue of escape.
Cameron assists any goblins in need to the next life and notices the Goblin Dog bolting through the escape route Zee provided
Walter stumbles upon a book, partially buried under some grass. Not likely from the goblins, but here before any arrived
Atlas stands watch as well

Combat oVer.

Searching the area and goblins you discover that each is branded with an elongated sideways oval with 3 dots in the center.
Detect Magic finds 2 potions, a set of small studded leather and small wooden shield on what was likely the leader.
A search of the camp brings some treasure as well an expanded view of what might be going on. The Camp consists of 6 tents, a fenced area and supplies of a general nature that would last the former owners several weeks. You also find a funeral pyre of sorts where some bodies have been burned. Inside one of the tents under a filthy piles of skins and furs, you find an iron bound chest. It is not locked and contains 2,500 gold and 200 silver

The camp has been set up about 120' from the small tunnel entrance.

Each PC receives 500xp

Atlas gives a hoot when he hears about the gold. "Well now, that's a treasure! Only problem is how we're going to carry it without it bogging us down. We could bury it and get it on the way out. I mean, we are going to have to go into that tunnel to finish this quest. It looks pretty tight in there as well, so the more agile we are the better. I'm open to other thoughts if you have them."

As the others look around Atlas takes up residence at the entrance to the tunnel. He's not going to let them get surprised with an army of kobolds or worse.

While on watch, he also eyes the tents, wondering if it would be a good idea to pack one of them up for the road.

Question of Treasure
Thursday April 23rd, 2015 11:21:15 PM

The group has a couple different views on what to do with the treasure. Stash it or carry it. If it going to be carried in something other than the chest it is currently in. folks need to start filling bags.
Cameron's healing washes over the group to mend any minor wounds
See and Crosseye are at the tunnel entrance keeping an eye out. It is a shallow 15' tunnel that ends in a granite slab with a stone door carved into it. The door is quite large, nearly 11' high and just over 5' wide. From the mouth of the tunnel you can see runes carved into it and there is a hum emanating from somewhere coming out of the tunnel.
Atlas looks closer at the tents, but they are little more than filthy rags layered over hickory poles
Mack offers Carver a few Goodberries to heal the last of his wounds (Eat and roll away Carver)

Only if you have at least 1 rank can you roll for this

The losers rot and the winners go in and either speak the runes aloud like Carver did, or touch them, which I will try if Carver speaking them didn't work. My guess is that if you get the combination or order wrong, you get burned by something like a jet of fire, hence the burn marks. I wonder what the reward is for getting it right? Probably all the tribes here rally to your banner and you get to tell them what to do."
"With that in mind, everyone get ut the tabbards that Zee made us. If we open it we need to provide a uniformed presence for them to recognize. Oh, and 'Osul, please stand by to put me out and restore life to my body if this goes the other way, eh?"

A granite door
Tuesday April 28th, 2015 9:04:19 AM

The group discusses the runes and what they might mean and to a greater extent what might lie beyond the door. The are a password perhaps, and so with Cameron's reading and Carvers organization of them, Cameron prepares to touch them in that same order.
The group exits the short tunnel and clears back to where they are no longer standing upon any scorched earth as Cameron drops some gear and then goes back in. The party stands just over 40' from Cameron and with the tunnel shadows and his short nature, he's hard to see if you don't know wheee you are looking.

Cameron extends a hand and slowly comes into contact with the smooth, cool granite of the door. Blinking he realizes that he wanted to touch the runes, but here he was, his hand pressed flat against the stone. Even while thinking about, still his hand is on the delightfully smooth, cool and refreshing stone. Thoughts of home, faded memories come to mind. The meat cooking over the low heat fires. The sounds of hammer on anvil, Dwarven work songs, the calm of being in the deep. Cameron's hand then slides to each of the runes, To Speak, The Gods, Gargul and Alemi, Gifts to Man, Creation, Fire, The Heavens.

Cameron takes a step back and inhales deeply. He is unharmed, the door remains closed.

Cameron seems mesmerized, one hand still resting flat on the door.
Home.
It had not been so long since he had been there, for Morgan's funeral, yet it felt like an eternity. The stone somehow reminded him of it, but it was more than just the feel of the door, it was something else. The door felt safe, comfortable, inviting. All he had to do was get the combination right. What was the combination though...

He hears Walter behind him and a soft chuckle escapes his lips.
" I get the feeling that a crack team of dwarven sappers would die of old age before they could open this by force. There is power here. Old power. Real power. It is in the stone, around the stone, maybe even it IS the stone. Force won't do us any good here. This is work for the soul."
He rests his cheek against the stone, wanting to feel the comfort and the safety of the dwarven halls again. His mind races about what they are missing. Either the order is wrong, or maybe, not all of the words are supposed to be used.
Through the touch of the stone, Cameron gets the vibe that there are two phrases that will work here. He thinks back to his religious training, scant though it was, it taught the history of the Gods, The stone definitely is offering comfort, acceptance and peace when he touches it, so he focuses on Alemi and words associated with him from those given. Zee's touch inspires his confidence in this path and in his memory of his classes.
Were he evil, Cameron figures he would see the older, Evil side of Gargul, before he tempered his role as the God of LIFE and death. for this reason, he focuses on Alemi and his history. He figures the evil combination is what activated the beacon, and that goodness will deactivate it. The only question he has is, Who turned it on and what will they do once it is shut off?
Alemi formed a school for good people to combat the evil monstrous races. He based this school at the house of Creation. When Gargul used the power of the dragons for evil, Alemi used the Gifts of the Gods To Speak to The Gods and solve the problem. These are the phrases Cameron concentrates on as he touches the door. If nothing happens while he does this he touches the phrases in this order.
Alemi, Creation, Gifts of the Gods, To Speak, The Gods

Atlas is getting frustrated that he cannot do more to help. Cameron, Zee, 'Osul, is there anything we can help with? We did check the door for traps right? I don't know why I didn't think of that before, I guess I just assumed. Anyway, keep up the good work, and keep speaking out loud like you are. Maybe it will spark an intelligent thought in the rest of us non-scholors."

Atlas keeps an eye on the horizon, waiting and watching.

A granite door
Wednesday April 29th, 2015 11:37:00 AM

At Atlas's suggestion, Mack and Crosseye head out to take a patrol around the area.
Cameron continues to work at the puzzle of the door. Hes tries another combination, Alemi; Creation; Gifts of the Gods; To Speak; The Gods.
The door remains closed.

Carver suggests that perhaps the group needs to offer a gift themselves.

Everyone but Cameron is at least 40' away. Mack and Crosseye are now much further taking a patrol route about the area. The vantage point on top of the hill allows for a few miles to be taken in and the pair sees nothing heading their direction. What they do find, however, is that the same spiderweb scorch marks are all bout the hilltop and hillsides. So far no other entrances into the hill have been discovered

The sun is high above the Red Hills and a warm breeze is blowing in from the south

Zee sets out on the ground and begins to clean and fiddle with her kukri, this strange downward curving sword/ax, she sits there pondering this new problem. What does this mean? How do Alemi and Gargul relate to this light? What should we do next? Why have I been brought here?

As the nascent sorceress ruminates on these things, small flittering prestidigitations take flight around her: a black and gold dragon, a sinewy silver and white dragon, the Old Woldian signs of the Gods, Alemi, and Gargul. Soon, it is hard to see the girl for all of the magic pictures between her and the world. When her eyes open, it is obvious that she has found a trance like state. Her eyes are filled with a warm gold light and she stares past you all toward the edifice.

OoC if Carver can carry the gold no trouble I let him carry it and if need be I will help with the over flow as I am near capacity. Just let me know so I can add to my sheet.

IC
"Mack, more burn marks! Let's try and find the direction and source of them? Maybe even the cause while the others work on the door thing." and with that I canine the burn more closely looking a pattern I might know that would cause such effect. Plus trying to determine the direction they might of cone from or even the source.

--------
Survival roll 27 on the burn marks to look for direction and source and ever follow track them
Perception roll 20 of the area for any clues and information of the area plus keep an eye on the area for any trouble

The new combination doesn't work either, but Cameron thinks he is on to something. Creation could also refer to life, one of Gargul's aspects. If that is the case he should probably remove that word fro the mix and maybe the door will open. There are eight runes so it would follow that 4 start the beacon and four stop it. Cameron used five on his last try, so now he edits it down to four. First he touches the door and thinks the phrases, then speaks the phrases, then if neither have worked he touches the runes. He uses these words this time. Alemi, Gift of the Gods, to Speak, the Gods
