Chow time! - CoDM Corsario
Thursday March 5th, 2015 12:26:31 AM

Cameron feels sickened at the sight of the ogres eating, but braces himself and accept the food offering from them (well, the word "food" is used very loosely here).
The rest see him chewing, and a green tint appearing on his face, which shows the disgust he is feeling. But he doesn't throw up, and don't seem to be dying (at least not right away).
The ogres smile at the water, and drink greedily. Then answer the small cleric questions, in giant, with Cameron translating.
"We are brothers. We are friends. We saw the light, and we came to look for food. Many others coming too. Many food coming too."
The ogre then growls to the others, mainly in Carver direction (with a glance to Mack). The two armed one continues talking, but now Cameron don't translate.
The other ogre hears his "brother", and stops to growl at the others too.
Cameron only: Highlight to display spoiler: {"Are they friends? Will they eat? Do you want us to hurt and eat them? The other small one looks tasty..."}
---
I think I know what Cameron will answer, so I continue the action.
---
The ogres seem to relax at Cameron words, and the two armed one throw a piece of the beetle in front of you all.
He talks to you, and even if you don't know Giant you know what he is saying.
"Eat!"
Crosseye looses it there and then. He turns and pukes, unable to resist the sight of the slimy entrails in the dusty ground, and the idea of eating that putrid "delicacy".
But the ogre ignores him and turns back to the beetle, looking for more "food", not paying attention to you. They only grimace and make noises when Mack start to play, and after a couple seconds throw some insect innards in his general direction.
Everyone is a critic.
And then his one-armed brother reach for the beetle head, and tears one of the razor sharp jaws off.
He points to you all and asks for something. Cameron translate to you.
"He wants for you to fetch him a strong branch, straight and not too wide."
He turns and starts ripping other pieces form the insect innards.
'Osul discovers they seem to like the most "wet" parts of the insect. He also notices they seem to be affected by the poison of the insect too, but are too big (or dumb) to let them stop them from eating. You all can't believe he is so near of the Ogres, and seeing all the grisly details, without showing any sign of discomfort or revulsion.
Atlas feels how the strength is coming back to him. He hasn't feel so tired in a long time.
Zee, next to Carver, notices the one armed ogre has a sack hanging from what would pass from his belt. The sack seem to move by itself.
Carver looks all around the place (everything to avoid making eye contact with the beasts). I have to say it is a great idea, avoiding them from feeling challenged by the only creature they seem to be wary off.
Are you sure you want to camp next to the beetle, and near the ogres?

When asked if they should hurt the group Cameron speaks to them in Giant, (translated because I will tell the group later) " No, leave them alone. Jancassis sent them to me, to help me find the ones I have to hurt. They are a gift to me from her, and I like them."
Once they turn to making things from the bug remains he turns to Crosseye, the one who seems to most need to be away from here for a moment and says, In Common,
" Crosseye, Get the branch they need, in fact get two, so they both can make weapons. Strong branches, straight and not too wide. I will tell them it is the least you can do because you refused their 'offering'. I'm going to say my goodbyes to them and we can cover some more ground. Sleeping near them could lead to our group being smaller in the morning."
Cameron turns back to the creatures and tells them Crosseye will get their branches, but then he and his friends have to go. By way of a parting gesture, once Crosseye returns, Cameron touches each of the creatures on the forehead, tracing the symbol of Jancassis in thee grime on their skin with his finger tips. When that is done he is ready to go.

Atlas takes it all in as the scenario plays itself out. He bristles a little at the thought of doing what the Ogres want like he is some servant, "Sometimes you have to put your ego away Atlas, getting a friend killed because of it would not be acceptable."

As Cameron says his good-byes Atlas says to the group, "Looks like it is time to hit the road again, I'll cover the rear. Crosseye, please lead us forward, and warn us of any terrain concerns if you don't mind. I was tripping and falling all day yesterday. No comments from those of you that happen to be gifted with nimbleness." Atlas gives a fake mean stare at the halflings and Crosseye hoping to keep the atmosphere lite.

After they depart Atlas turns to Cameron, "Well done back there. I wouldn't have minded ridding the world of those foul beasts, but I don't know what else we'll run into today. It may be best to save our strength for our main goal. On the way back though..."

Upon seeing the moving bag Zee is all the more ready to leave the bug-eaters' company. Zee tries to stay subtle and calm, but concentrating on not throwing up makes her give up stealthy whisper, "Atlas, do you see the moving bag? Can we go now?"

Zee is happy to move past the beetle and the orgekin. She is also still pensive and inwardly drawn; she called a fight to the group. She doesn't yet know if the killing of the beetle saved them from the Shaggra, or if they could have avoided both... but the thoughts of what is destined and what is chance fill her afternoon hike. As per usual she takes the time to dry and clean the rain and mud from the group as they march.

Carver looks back when you leave the ogres, one of them now with a pole finished in a razor sharp beetle jaw in place of his missing arm.
They are evil.
The other ogre, with his two arms, scream to you.
"You are friends of us now. If you find others, tell them you are friends of the brothers. Tell them not to eat you!"
You keep advancing, and some 5 minutes later you find the missing ogre arm. A cloud of flies are starting to eat it.
In that moment Cameron feels his spell finishing, and goes to some tall grass to vomit his "meal".
You keep advancing some more, trying to cover as much distance as possible before the night.
So another Survival roll, please, and also Perception rolls.

'Osul looks at the soon fly-blown arm and with more than a little consideration wonders aloud, "It would be a great show of thanks to the brothers if we could clean that up, put it back where it belongs, and heal it appropriately...". He considers this for a few moments more before reaching a conclusion, "...but I feel the Wood would not grant me such a boon.

He looks again at the arm to see if the brother was wearing anything that he might clean and return when they next meet - he has that feeling, and if asked, he puts it precisely that way.

He contributes what he can towards their continued trek and safety. { Survival: 16, Perception: 26 }

OOC
Now, as to why we keep aiding what should be a "for free" skill. In our last adventure we went into part of the Culverwood. For a druid like you, who worships the wood that would be OK. For heathens like us who don't the wood is not amused and tries to redirect you out, when that fails it tries to kill you. We had to actually make checks to find north and stay on our heading and to avoid any pitfalls in the wood. Now we just do it because we like to think we learn from our mistakes, like feeding the evil ogres. So help me, if they weren't evil I was bringing two new disciples back to the tree with me. Once you comb their hair and brush their teeth they clean up real nice. Let THAT be a test of how tolerant and forgiving the tree is ... Um or something like that. <takes evil mastermind hat off> Um yeah.
IC
Cameron looks at Carver, " What? They were hurt, and if we didn't play nice they would have tried to kill us. They surely would have eaten Mack. And we just got our butts kicked by a monster bug. Another fight right there would not have been good. Besides, we learned some valuable things. We learned that they are dumber than dirt, like the bug but smart enough to talk. We learned that the lights ARE drawing things to them, and that we will probably find more not good and really tough monsters there. And we learned how to not get eaten by said monsters by telling them we know the Brothers. Evil or not, they now consider me a friend and might stop other monsters from hurting me, and my friends. Jancassis teaches survival over all and that was a big step toward surviving in a place that will chew us up and spit us out. Their natures and their harsh lifestyle have made them evil, sure. I could probably redeem them, given time. I think we did alright."
At this point the delay poison spell wear off and Cameron excuses himself. A few moments later, after the sounds of him being violently ill come from behind the bushes he returns, magically refilling his water skin. He looks pale but he starts looking better after a few sips of water.
" As to why they eat the bugs, I have a few theories. Carver's idea seems to be a good one, but might fall a little short. The Lady of Vengeance is known to test her followers through poison. In overcoming the poison they become stronger. Since the Brothers clearly know of her and probably follow her in their limited way, they might be seeking her favor. Second, the bug took from them, so by taking from the bug they fulfill another of her tenets. Third, they really are not very smart, they didn't even have individual names. I do think their devotion was real though, so it might be best if I do any further negotiations on this trip. Thank Jancassis that Uncle Morgan taught me giant."
"Finally some people also poison themselves on a regular basis. It sharpens your senses and sometimes grants you insight you might not otherwise have as parts of you start working to defeat the poison before it kills you. Soon, I will have to undergo a testing ceremony to become more devoted to The Lady, and it will involve all manner of poisons. If I pass the tests she will take me further into her faith and teachings. If I fail I may die. I welcome any chance to experience new poisons to prepare myself for that test."

I let it all soak in. Having a very strong interest in poisons myself, I am quite willing to help provide poisons to Cameron later.... as many and as much as possible. Actually, my interest is more in anti-venoms, but baby steps. :)

Letting Cameron negotiate for us concerns me, as his path seems to be going a different route than I usually like to take.... but I keep quiet for now, and just try to get a feel for how other people react to his speech. I DO like the path of staying alive, in most cases.

----OOC----
David: Maybe I chose my words poorly. I though I had read it somewhere, but could not put my fingers on it now I was considering having 'Osul commune for the spell, and hoped someone else might know of it. It was not intended as any sort of dig or slight, and I'm all in favor of the Aiding another - 'Osul even attempted this in the bug combat, however unsuccessfully. He is not immune to the misdirections of the Wood, and there were times in his back-story where having someone with him would have made a world of difference, but that would have likely meant he was a part of the society/circle, and that in turn would have made him unplayable as a PC. Consequently he has some limitations - such as having no understanding or experience with any magical items (Which I'm hoping some other characters have begun to realize - such as his response to the earlier discussion about the wand). When the Wood has turned him around, and he finally grasps it, he becomes evermore curious and cautious in equal measure. He used to just be curious, but he has also learned something from his mistakes.
----IC----
The druid nods in agreement with Carver - until the point the discussion turns to the new friends. Then he nods and agrees with everything he hears Cameron telling Carver, and the same when he addresses his own question. "Thank you, Cameron. That was considered and well put."

'Osul responds with a smile if he notices Zee looking in his direction, but she seems to him to be lost in her own thoughts. "Maybe she is thinking of spells.", he thinks, momentarily, before focusing again on the path to camp.

Oh, I just meant it as a little back story, something you and conversely 'Osul might not have heard. No slight taken, I and Cameron sometimes try make things seem more amusing than they really are. I thought you got a pass from your home wood messing with you. If not, you are not as useful as you first seemed and slip a little down the " who I need to save to live" list. 8) Just kidding, I don't write that list down, people might not understand.
Oh, and so you know, John and I are DMs too, so we can see posts to the DM, whether we choose to or not. Don't put anything life changing in there 8). We just have to act like we don't see them and not act on what we see. That's not too hard. Unless the post makes me start thinking in which case I may lose my white knuckled grip on reality.

IC
Cameron is almost stunned that Osul listened to the whole explanation he gave. Nobody else ever did. Usually once he said something involving Jancassis name everyone went "oh no, not again" inside their head and turned to look at the pretty flowers. This guy might be a good one to have around. Besides he kept Carver alive and could probably talk to the Tree and find out about the kid only Cameron could see. The Tree wouldn't throw up a big smokescreen like the residents were doing, would it?

OOC: No worries, hope your wife is ok. Tell her somebody said "Hi! Get well soon!" from México. need help with your posts for some days?
Glad you all could post.
Got it: Carver got a 2 Stealth check... A big difference there...

Cameron quickly and silently take cover, motioning the others to do the same.
Atlas, not as stealthy, moves behind him and looks for a way to avoid an encounter with the small humanoids.
'Osul hides while thinking if the Shaggra arm could have been useful in this situation.
Mack, taking advantage of his small size, disappears from sight without making any sound.
Crosseye and Zee moves behind, making no noise.
Carver also tries to hide, but his hooves hit a stone, and a flock of birds, hearing it, nervously fly away making noise...
You all flinch and look intently at the goblins, fearing they will detect you at any moment.
They don't, they seem to focused guarding and poking with sticks a medium humanoid in their midst.

OOC: Introducing your new adventure companion.

Goblins. Don't start me about Goblins.
Their small weapons poke you, forcing you to march.
Some birds move in the distance. Far away, some 250' feet away, on the top of the next hill over.
There... a horse... someone mounted on it. It seems to be other people there.
Is that help? Are those bandits?
What can you do?

OOC: It would probably be best if I waited for Crosseye to post, but I'm short on time today, so I'm going to assume...

At Crosseye's description of the situation Atlas bristles. "I cannot sit back and let them kill someone while we hide behind a hill. It won't be ideal, but sometimes you just have to do what is right in the moment. The hill is going to be a problem, but maybe they'll meet us in the valley. Anyone know goblin speak so we can get them riled up and maybe meet us half-way?"

Atlas stands up and starts over the hill and down the other side. He's fatigued already from the previous night, so he doesn't sprint like he normally would. As he does so he starts yelling at the Goblins, calling them green skins and all other sorts of names that will hopefully anger them enough to want to kill him. He bangs his sword against his shield to ensure that they know what he's up to if they don't understand his words.

Well, it looks like we won't be able to remain stealthy here for long. If I didn't fall asleep while hiding: "We're going to need to do something to rescue that captured humanoid down there, and get our party up to lucky #8! :)

"Do you want me to give you guys 2 minutes to circle around, and then I come walking over this hill playing harmonica in complete obvliousness (is that a word?)? I DO speak fluent Goblin!"
I wait for marching orders..... warming my harmonica up in the hopes someone asks for a distraction. :)

The priest lets out a sigh and looks up at Carver.
" Go ahead. You want to go get some goblins on your lance, I can see it in your eye. I'll sneak around this way and try to free their prisoner. There is a chance they are carrying tents, so do try not to damage their stuff if you can."
Cameron points around the side of the hill he will take to get to where he is going. He is far too tired to rush so his stealth should be assured, even to keen eyed goblins. Just in case he pulls out the whip, so that he is ready in case he runs into something else.

Walter: Yes, the

Atlas, Mack and Crosseye start moving down the hill, screaming at the goblins. There are 100' to the bottom of the hill, so they get halfway there (Atlas and Mack advance 40' with double move).
Carver pass them, his powerful legs making thundering noises while he almost reaches the bottom of the hill (70' with double move, for Crosseye 60').
Cameron starts moving silently to flank them, but he realizes he would take several minutes to reach them that way (250' away, not directly, so it's 400' away or more, at 20' per round, that is 20 rounds to reach them).
On the way down Mack sees that the capture creature seems to be a human male. He is being beaten up by some goblins, while others turn and start getting bows ready to fire.
'Osul and Zee stay back, seeing the attack unfold.

Walter realizes that was a bad idea when a couple of Goblins poke him with wooden spears (Take 2 Hp damage). Only 2 of the goblins remains guarding you, while the others start getting their small bows ready to fire on the attackers.

Finally, Zee has a little silver and gold butterfly/bird/dragonfly... the shape is amorphous, but it streaks out to Mack and Cameron

Atlas and Mack keep moving towards the goblins. They almost reach the end of the hill (80' of 250' advanced)
Cameron, hiding stops to eat a cookie, and feels how he is able to move much swifter. (20' of 400' advanced)
Crosseye fires and arrow that hits one of the goblins (or so it seems). He moves another 30' forward (90' of 250' advanced)
Carver keeps advancing in front of the others, he reach the base of the hill you are in (30'), and almost reach the start of the hill the goblins are at (40'). (140' of 250' advanced, he is 10' away from the start of the goblin's hill, and will move only half distance while climbing).

Walter stops moving and let the goblins do their thing.
Most of them (10) take bows and shoot the rescuers, but 3 (the biggest and meanest of them) take small lances and brace them to defend the archers.
The two remaining goblins, the smallest, remain to guard him, armed with dogslicers.
He sees that in the commotion they left his weapons in the ground, some 20' away.
If he just could get rid of the two goblins guarding him, he could get his weapons without the others realizing it.

Cameron is pretty sure that he can't be seen by the goblins so long as he takes this path around the hills to come up behind them. He still uses the available cover and moves cover to cover as fast as he can.
Cameron moves 100 feet closer along the 'hidden' path. As he goes he draws a dagger in his off hand, so that he has lethal options available to him. ( As far as I can tell it isn't two weapon fighting unless you use them both together, so I shouldn't take penalties)
-------------------------
I am double moving, the stealth rules say I can't hide while doing alot of things, but they don't list double move. I will roll with the -5 for moving fast and see what you want to do with the rolls. The cover to cover idea they list seems to support what I am attempting, I think.

OOC
A double move is when you use you move action to move, and then use your standard action as a move action to move again, a double move. Running, which fatigued folks can't do, sacrifices some AC I believe to move at 3x to 4x your speed, depending on your encumbrance I think.

[Using 1 Hero Point now] He musters all of his strength to try and break the rope. Hopefully this act scares the living daylights of the vile goblins.

The goblin dead march - CoDM Corsario  d10=2 ; d20+4=19 ; d20+4=10 ;
Friday March 13th, 2015 2:10:18 PM

OOC: All: The Fatigued condition prevents you to run.
If your speed is 20', you can "move" (and have a standard action) 20', double move 40' (without other action), or run 60' with medium or high encumbrance or 80' with light encumbrance (you can't do anything else, and lose your DEX bonus to AC).
Crosseye: You can fire and even kill goblins, you only rolled a poor damage the last time.

Mack moves to reach with him, while scanning the ground for something he could use as a shield for Crosseye. He sees a log that could grant some modicum of cover. (120' of 250' advanced).
Atlas talks to Carver, while almost reaching him. (120' of 250' advanced).
Carver, feeling the arrows cruelly piercing his back, stops to heal himself and assumes a completely defensive position, letting the rest to catch up with him. (140' of 250 advanced).
Zee, rested after a good night sleep, breaks into a run! She feels the rush of going down the hill at full speed, and for a moment she feels like she is going to
fall, but her agility and the lack of armor allow her to reach the bottom of the hill, and catch up with Carver. (140' of 250 advanced, you are in reach for using message on the goblins).
Crosseye advances another 50' an reaches Carver and Zee. (120' of 250' advanced)
'Osul sees Zee break out in a run, but he is unable to follow. He hopes they have a plan. He almost reaches the end of the first hill (90' of 250' advanced).
Cameron, on the other hand, uses his new magical speed to cover a lot of ground circumventing the hills. He thinks the goblins will see him, moving as fast as he is, but as far as he is able to say they haven't. (120' of 400' advanced)
You all look up, to the top of the hill, and see an enfilade of goblin archers ready to fire on you.
OOC: Remember, the last 100' are "upstream", and movement costs double.
Carver, Crosseye and Zee are 110' away from the Goblins.
Atlas and Mack are 130' away from the Goblins.
'Osul is on the rearguard, 160' away from the goblins.
Cameron has advanced 120' on the "panoramic" route of 400' to the goblins.

---
Walter sees the group at the bottom of the hill. They will be massacred because of him. He wont allow it, even if it costs his life.
With all his might he breaks his bonds and face the couple goblins guarding him.
They scream in shrieking voices, making all of the others turn around. That distracts some of the archers, which unsure what to do, don't fire.
The three "leaders", scream in turn, one of them unbracing his lance, and turning out to face Walter.
Only two of the archers fire, but both miss Carver.

Zee concentrates and beings to fashion a cantrip of mist and lightening in the shape of a bat/spider. It is whispering back to Zee her instructions, "Send my words to my enemies, make them fear the Taur of Death."

Zee launches her spell and whispers in her most dangerous, venomous growl, "Ag Zyg HorseyMug." Afterward, the sorceress might make eye contact with the Taur, and only then would she begin to question the sanity of this spell...

Oh well, time to look for cover. "Carver, I am going to try and hide here, I only have a few bullets left in me. But I can try and talk to the prisoner, or continue to scare the guards. What should I do?"

To make and unarmed strike roll 1d20+5, and if that is more than 16 roll 1d4+3 damage. The two goblins guarding will attack you in turn (unless you knockout on of them)..
To "roll away" your will need to do an Acrobatics check (1d20-1) and roll 14 or more. If you make it, those two won't be able to attack you, if you don't, you reach your weapons but they will attack.
All of your equipment is 20' from you, bu you will only have tome to grab sword and shield if you reach it.

One of the goblins bracing against Carver looks alarmed when Walter grabs his sword. He shrieks in Goblin, and half of the archers turn towards the former prisoner, sending a volley his way.

Cameron steps on a loose rock and sees some goblin eyes look his way, He has been found! But they seem to ignore him, attacking Walter and Carver instead.
He keeps advancing swiftly, and is now only 90' away from the prisoner!
OOC: You keep going "upstream", so movement costs double!
---
Carver keeps advancing, the steep hill slowing him down. He feels the tiredness in his legs, but he keeps going, his shield up. He streams at the goblins, who hoot and shriek, firing at him. He keeps his shield up, hoping that he will cover him from the fiends arrows.
Crosseye moves behind Carver, covering himself behind the centaur. He realizes that he can have time to fire and still keep behind the centaur.
OOC: Crosseye, if you want, you can move and fire, including an extra attack for this turn, besides the new one.
Mack finally reaches Crosseye, but sees that Carver gives them both all the cover they can have. He looks at the warrior, up there, alone and facing dozens of goblins, arrows protruding from his chest. He is a sight to behold. If it wasn't for him, dozen of arrows would have rained on you, with devastating effect. You should buy the guy a drink.
If he survives, that's it.
Mack hears how the goblins plan to will the warrior first, and then turn out to finish your group, the three on the front seem to be the "chieftains", giving orders to the others. Those three carry long spears, giving them 10' range to attack. They seem bent on killing the "horse-thing" first!
Atlas presses on, moving next to Carver.
'Osul goes behind the group, behind Crosseye.
Zee, still covering behind a tree, concentrates and tries to scare the goblins again, but seems this time it wasn't so effective!
OOC: You keep going "upstream", so movement costs double!
---
Walter boldly tries to kill the remaining goblin, but the arrows in his chest impede the normal flow of the swing, and he misses badly. But he keeps pushing his bravado, knowing that his sacrifice will allow those people climbing the hill to come and defeat the goblins... even if it costs him his life!
Anyway he moves behind a tree, trying to present a harder target to the archers.
---
The goblin guard moves after Walter, and tries to cut him again (he keeps shaken from Zee last successful intimidate). His dog-slicer aims true to Walter's shin, but his leg guards manage to deflect the blow!
Another five archers fire at him, now with difficulty because of the tree cover (and one is still intimidated). Two arrows have true aim, but one is deflected by the tree. But the other hit Walter. He feels the pain and is about to drop his sword, but a rush of adrenaline keeps him from making a mortal mistake!
OOC: Walter, another 3 hp damage, you are down to 4 hp.
The other five archers fire on Carver, and three of the arrows go completely wild. In fact, two archers had their poorly made goblin bows snap at the effort! Those two goblins draw a small dog-slicer and start to get their small wooden shield.
But the other two arrows go for Carver horse chest, and hit him. One of the arrows hit exactly here his heart is, but his barding protects the important organ, so the damage is minimal.
OOC: Carver, you got another 2 hp damage.

Cameron double moves again closing the gap on the goblin archer line(double move to 24/04). As he moves this time he starts chanting, in Giant, that the Lady of Venom and Vengeance has come for the goblins. They are not so far away from where they last saw the Brothers (which is why he is using Giant for the chanting) His first verse goes on about her halfling servant, bearer of the whip of pain. His second verse tells of the Shagrass pair. Brothers and eaters of that which is slower than they. Since he has been spotted now it really does him no harm. If the Goblins hear it and understand, they might recognize the Brothers and rethink their attack. If the Brothers hear it they might come see who is chanting on about them and saying they eat slow food. If no one understands it, it still makes Cameron feel better to be doing something that might save the warrior from his fate. He repeats these two verses over and over, hoping the others will catch on and be able to echo them. They may not know what the words mean, but added volume and more voices may just be enough to freak the goblins out, or summon the brothers. he also cracks his whip in time with the chant.

Zee has felt the bond of Cameron's message snap a few minutes ago, and she lets the lines to the goblins fail, the trick is wearing thin with them, but she keeps her line to the prisoner and Mack. "Be fierce, Stranger! If you speak goblin, cry war chants for the Hurt Goddess and the Brothers. I am Zee and my party has traded on those names before. Let me see if I can scare them some more. Be careful!"

Zee slips the treads of magic into the knots of another bullet. Soon, a pea-sized sphere of silver and gold light sparks and flares in her hand. She flings it at the unintimidated goblin attacking Walter, ((or at the lead archer if range is an issue))

OOC: Sorry for the missed post. I will make up for it on Saturday!
You keep going "upstream", so movement costs double!
Carver, last round you moved 20', this one 15' and so on...

Cameron keeps his mad dash towards the goblins (he reached 23,4) while chanting in giant. The goblins sees him, but don't seem to be taking much notice of him. They have a large monstrous 4-legged creature to worry about!
Atlas keeps pushing forward, he can almost feel the goblins breath on his nostrils! He even gains a little on Carver, who keeps keeping his shield in front of him!
Mack insults the chieftains while looking some cover (he only gets to 11.14, movement costs double, remember?)
'Osul keeps behind Carver, together with Crosseye, who fires a wide arrow, and another that hits the biggest chieftain, but fails to pierce his chain mail armor.
---
Walter musters all his strength in one last bid for glory. He will surely fall here, but he will take another Goblin with him to hell!
He starts his swinging motion when...
"Be fierce, Stranger!"
The sound on his ear, like a woman mumbling directly next to him, takes him out of balance and makes him fall to the ground, at the mercy of the goblin guard, who grinds widely and prepares to finish him!
The Goblin dog-slicer blade comes down when a tiny magic pea size orb impact the goblin on the temple, and kills it outright! The dog-slicer hits the ground next to Walter, while the small humanoid corpse falls on top of him!
OOC: Walter, you are prone.
Zee has saved Walter's life... for now.
---
The chieftains smile when they see the prisoner go down, and order the archers to fire on Carver again.
A rain of arrows hit the centaur's shield, and two of them pierce his barding's front (Carver: 4 hp damage)
Another of the bows snap, and the three Goblins, now armed with dog-slicers and small shields advance to the front, next to the chieftains.
A sadistic song starts to come to the Goblins throats.
Feeding time!

Cameron breaks cover and moves to 29/08. (I am assuming that the tan line is the hill top and there is no need to pay double once I cross it. I can attack from almost anywhere up here so if I am wrong please let me know and I'll alter my turn) His appearance is malice incarnate. As he breaks cover he grins likea skull at the goblins he passes. Once behind them he attempts to disable them since he can see that their armor will defeat his whip's attacks to hurt them. His whip flicks out (No goblins within 5' so no AoO provoked) attempting to wrap around the legs of the archer in 26/08.
Trip attack beats CMD 19
His whip strikes true and wraps around the goblins ankles. Cameron grins even more widely, knowing the chaos that is about to ensue.
As he does so he calls to the prisoner. " Strike now! My friends are only a moment behind me. The greenskins have the numbers but they have attacked the wrong people. Jancassis demands that they pay for this wrong with their lives."
The prisoner sees a small halfling, roughly three feet tall. He wears a military greatcoat over what appears to be a fine shirt of mail. He fights with a whip in one hand and a dagger, underhanded in his left. He has platinum blonde hair and a small goatee. Currently he is wet, dirty and a bit bedraggled looking. Around his neck is a holy symbol to Jancassis. Commonly Jancassis is known as the goddess of poison and revenge
" My name is Cameron. Once the others finish stomping these guys into a green goo I am sure they will introduce themselves. I'd try to stop your bleeding, but the brothers took all the healing I had."
"Oh, wait! I have a candied apple in my backpack that should help. If you are hurt too bad to wait until after the fight, grab it and eat it."

Carver, this round you advance 20', so you reach the tree, and get some cover.

Cameron reaches the hilltop and quick as an arrow moves behind the archer's line, near Walter. His whip snaps at the legs of the last archer in the line, making it fall heavily to the ground!
Zee informs the others what is happening, as well as she is able, while telling the prisoner to wake up! Don't go to the light!
Mack screams at the Goblins, getting some insults referring hairy feet in return, while getting cover behind a tree.
Atlas, Carver, Crosseye and 'Osul keep moving forward, Carver getting partially behind a small tree.
Atlas, standing as tall as he is, screams threats at the Goblins. HE is sure he would have demoralize them, except they are too far away for that to work.
Crosseye let another arrow fly against the goblin chieftain, but it misses him by a foot.
'Osul prepares to use his healing magic where it is needed more.

OOC: Walter, you are prone.
Walter feels the goblin fall on him, and thinks it is a good time to play dead. His ruse works, and no other goblin or arrow comes his way.
But then the fastest halfling you have seen in your life appears from nowhere, and makes a goblin archer fall with his whip!
He tells him his name is Cameron, and that he has an apple that can heal him!
He can still hear the whispered voice of a woman telling him to hang on. Has he become crazy? Is he dying?
OOC: You can stand up and move without problem, the goblin is small and light.
---
The middle chieftain barks orders in Goblin.
"You, kill the small pest back there, the rest, hold the line, archers, fire on the screaming warrior. Let's feast on their meat!"
The fallen archer gets up and grabs his bow again, looking at Cameron with hate.
One of the goblins charges against Cameron (you get an AoO against him). His dogslicer is short, and he avoids the attack.
The rest of the archers unleash against Atlas. Four arrows miss him, but he clearly sees one aimed squarely at his head. Before he is able to do anything it hits, and get stuck in, a tree branch. His relief is cut short by another arrow hitting his leg (2 HP damage).

OOC: You keep going "upstream", so movement costs double! Except for Cameron and Walter, that is...
Carver, this round you only advance 15'.

Cameron trips the goblin that charged against him, but fails to finish it with his knife.
Carver advances, and rears and screams at the goblins, trying to demoralize them. He looks in their black big eyes, and they show fear!
Atlas gains on Carver, but the goblins seem more afraid of the half horse monster than of him!
Osul moves behind Atlas, and now has both warriors in reach.
Crosseye keeps moving, and fires again, without success this time.
Walter stands carefully, looking at Cameron.
Zee observes the action, breathing more easily knowing Walter is alive.
OOC: Walter, you are not prone anymore.
---
The prone goblin at Cameron feet rise up, and the cleric fails to prevent it from doing so.
The goblin screams at Cameron, and attacks him! But the dog-slicer fails to cut through Cameron armor.
The goblin chieftain smiles. His plan has worked, he have you all where he wanted. He orders the remaining archers to fire in Goblin.
"Fire on the horse monster!"
The archers, intimidated by that figure of Gargul's power, obey, but his sight is not as good as it would be.
From the 7 arrows only two strike true. One of them gets really close to Carver's hip artery, but his armor deflects it enough to it doesn't impairs him.
OOC: Carver, another 6 hp damage.
The chieftain smile. he is weak, tired and hurt. time to finish him!
"Charge!" - he motions his lance forward indicating the goblins to attack...
... and nothing happens!
The goblins are scared! They wait for Carver to reach them!
He looks surprised, but grabs his lance and charges downhill! The other two "chieftains" follow his lead, one against Carver and another against Atlas!
But the tree of the charges fail!
OOC: They are 10' away from you, as they are using lances, with reach. If you close up you will provoke AoO's.
Only the "main" chieftain is 5' from Atlas

" The ones with spears are setting for a charge, watch out for them Carver!"
Despite his current situation, Cameron is still watching out for his friend. He knows that once Carver is close enough he will want to charge, and that is what the goblins are preparing for.
Looking to his own needs he tries to get this fighter moving. Cameron has been lucky that the goblins are terrified of Carver and focusing on him. If more than one or two come his way, Cameron will be in trouble.
" Look dude, you got yourself free so you can't be too dumb. Either get the apple out of my pack or kill something. I am a wee bit busy and cannot hold your hand right now. Your gonna have to do this on your own, I'm holding as still as I can while I try to stay alive."
He can feel the coldness of Jancassis seeping into his words as he addresses the man, but he didn't have time to be nice. This was serious business, and Jancassis was a harsh mistress that taught her lessons at the tip of the whip.
He didn't know how to use a dogslicer, and didn't have time to learn, so taking it away from the goblin would only make the critter want to grapple him. Cameron shuddered at the thought. He may not have the skills he once knew in the Fist, but he still had the memories. He remembered being held by that Flind and beaten by the gnolls it commanded. He didn't want to ever feel that again. Therefore he needed to keep this goblin busy until help arrived. Stepping around the corpses that this fighter had already killed he stands by the fighter's side and tries to trip the goblin again. This gives the fighter a chance to find the apple if he wants it and allows his a chance to gut the goblin when it came for Cameron, which it would, Cameron could tell, it was angry and wanted his blood.
Move to 30.11
whip attack beats CMD of 8 which fails to trip the goblin, no enemies within 5 feet so no AoO, unless Walter attacks me...(we don't actually know him yet)

I believe I can move to 21.15 and do an acrobatic roll to avoid an AoO (against Opponent's Combat Maneuver Defense).? I'm not sure if that also counts as both my move and action then, though, either. So doing all the rolls here, just in case I get an attack as well. Mostly, I'm trying to prevent the goblins from getting to Osul, and also provide Atlas with a flanking opportunity (wait, how does flanking work if they can see if every direction?).

OK, flanking is flanking Mack, it just works. As for your acrobatics roll it happens for free as you move through the threatened area. A flurry of blows is a full round action so if you are moving far enough to provoke an AoO ( IE not a 5 foot step) then you are not able to make a flurry of blows.
Good news Crosseye, I believe that you have critical hit the goblin. If you suspect you may have scored a critical hit roll the extra damage and list it as an if/then for the DM ( Hit AC 24 critical threat hit AC 18 to confirm for 16 damage if not a critical hit and XX damage if it is a critical) Likely this will not only kill the goblin but detonate him.

Zee rallies another round of Message, her fingers tingle and her nails are starting to crack from handling the magic, but when she sees the wounds in Carver's flesh she counts her weariness and discomforts as naught. She releases her spell onto the field of battle, adding Cameron and one other Goblin Chief. Now, the Goblin boss, one Chief, Atlas, Crosseye, Mack, Cameron, and Walter hear the woman's voice, seductive like black oil and threatening as desert scorpions, whispering in their ears, "I have tested and you failed, Green-skined Dog! Cameron steps to the crest of the hill (move to 25.10) and his whip snakes out for the ankles of the goblin at 22.11. His holy symbol prominent on his chest he reveals himself to the goblins. He is unsure how to feel about Zee using his goddess to cause fear and doubt in the goblins. On the one hand she is doing a pretty good, if stereotypical job at depicting Jancassis' demeanor. On the other, using her name and likeness when you are not one of hers could end up backfiring on the young girl. He hopes not, because it seems to be working. For now, playing the part of Jancassis' tool in the Wold was his job anyway, so he puts in his appearance at the top of the hill and trips the goblin in front of Crosseye, allowing the ranger to circle around the side and cut this goblin in half like he did the first one.

OOC: I'm going to be on vacation next week. There is a good chance that I will miss several days of posting. Eric is going to post for me on Friday of this week. Is anyone able to post for me next week? Otherwise I'll hit the LnB to find someone. Thanks!

Using his last Lay on Hands for the day, Carver heals again.(swift action) (I picture lay on hands as just touching, can be knuckles, fingers, in Carver's case, even his hooves, just making contact is needed.)
Carver attacks again with his lance.

OOC: Thanks for the correction on that goblin position, Corsario. That saved me the complications of moving and attacking. :)

IC: I like my current position between the Goblin Guard and Osul. I attack him with a flurry of blows (the goblin, not Osul.)

(flurry of blows: d20+4-1(-1) for each blow, and d4-1(-1) damage
Hit AC 11 for 1 damage, and AC 20 for 2 damage)

If I totally destroy that goblin with my devastating attack, I take a 5' step to 21.15 (or is that a 2.5 foot step going up hill?)..... also, only going there if it is out of AoO reach for the boss at 23.13.

Otherwise, I stay put between the Goblin and Osul.

I looked it up, you can't 5' step up a hill, or Carver would be on them and stomping them rather than striking with his lance. (any movement which is double is considered difficult, and no 5' step in difficult terrain)

OOC: You keep going "upstream", so movement costs double! Except for Cameron and Walter, that is...
5' steps can be taken sideways and "downstream", but "not upstream".

'Osul keeps behind Carver, ready to help in what he can...
Zee keeps distracting the goblins with her voice and magic.
The goblin prone at Walter's feet thinks he sees a hole in the human warrior defenses, and prepares to stand and put his dogslicer in the humans gut. Instead he gets a sword into an eyeball, killing him instantly.
Walter then moves to follow the archers, and manages to decapitate it. The other archer, panicking, drops his bow and makes a run for it (withdraw action, no AoO)
Seeing the way open, Cameron moves to the line of archers and manages to trip the first of them!
Atlas keeps attacking the goblin chieftain, but he keeps avoiding the attacks.
Carver spends the rest of Gargul's blessing to heal himself, and also tries to get the chieftain, but he is also unable to hit him.
Mack has more luck and hits the goblin in front of him. The goblin spit some blood at the punch in the face, but keeps standing.
(Will add Crosseye action when he post - Crosseye, you can post your action for this turn. and then for the next)
---
The archer tripped by Cameron stands, and fires an arrow against the halfling cleric. The arrow zooms at one side, missing him by a foot.
The other 4 archers keep firing against Carver, their quivers almost empty. all of the arrows miss Carver, only one hitting his shield.
The goblin team using longspears against the centaur manages to coordinate again, and the bigger chieftain manages to hit carver again! (Carver, 6 HP damage)
The other chieftain keeps attacking Atlas without success. He decides it is useful and also makes a run for it. (Move action, Atlas gets an AoO), the archers see him move next to them with afraid eyes.
The warrior in front of Mack also thinks he has been beaten enough, and run behind his chieftain. (Withdraw action, no AoO).
OOC: They are 10' away from you, as they are using lances, with reach. If you close up you will provoke AoO's.

Then to one of the leaders (22,11) I say, out loud " Your next!!!!" and with that I take "Little Mack" back and swing at him. (Attack roll 9) Miss! "Next time you will not be so lucky"

Part two

With the fight carrying on, I face my attacker, take back "Little Mack" once again. This time trying to take his head off! (Attack roll hit AC 19 damage 12) This time the axe finds it mark sliceing into the goblin badly.

No, could this work? Zee sees the way the lines of magic have carried her voice to the others, and she suddenly sees, the magic can carry others things! Zee laces the magic in and around her fingers, she mumbles a series of strange words, and finally the spell is ready. With a fling of her hands and the command, "Eleftherosi," Zee flings the spell into the hilltop (square 21.10).

Zee takes up her harassment of the goblins, "See, see where your comrades dies, my will draws forth! Fear and tremble at the Hurt Goddess's man. You may serve his will, or perish, but you may not win! Ah! Ha, ha, ha!" The corpse of the goblin attacker is bathed in a green light, the light is green and burns like a torch. Here in the sunlight, it is hard to see but this light is growing intense. Finally, it rise off the corpse and starts to coalesce into a faintly glowing, vaguely humanoid(goblinoid) shape. The light show turns toward the Chieftain and waves its arms menacingly.

Crosseye moves ahead and attacks the northern chieftain, while evading the goblin long spear. he move sin to position, within the goblin reach, and proceeds to decapitate him.
Carver moves away from the goblin chieftain and prepares to charge next round.
Atlas just barely misses the escaping goblin, and also miss while attacking the last remaining chieftain.
Zee makes a glowing "ghost" come up from one dead goblins body. A cheap magic trick.
That is enough for the goblin archers. They turn around and make a run for it, followed by a charging and screaming Mack.
In their panic the goblins drop their weapons, trip, scream and cry. It is a rout.
One of them, prone, is killed by Walter before it can escape.
Cameron sees the goblins escape, and moves to prevent the chieftain escape.
---
The chieftain sees himself alone, and turns to run. But a very angry cleric of Jancassis is on his way. He turns to see the goblin dead, and then Walter's bloody body, Carver shield and armor covered with what seems a dozen arrows, and the others that don't seem even hurt (but really tired).
He drops his weapon, and speaks in Goblin.
"I am eat-twice, chieftain of the Blood Tribe. I am now your slave."
OOC: END COMBAT! Well done, you beat them! All of you take 1 hero point!

"Where is their home camp?"
"Who do they worship?"
"Have they seen the lights at night?"

"Where are the lights coming from?"
"Is this goblin sorry for all of the evil things he has done and willing to repent, or is he evil to the core? Listen close to this answer Mack, I may nor be able to tell if he is lying when he answers and I really think it will be the answer that decides his Fate going forward."

Cameron then moves off a little ways by himself to think. As he does he realizes that Zee still has the message spell going, so he starts whispering.
" Zee, I am not so sure the Lady will be pleased with how you impersonated her just now. I think it was a good job and the outcome went well, but she may not be amused that a non worshiper, heck non believer used her reputation like that. Maybe you should pray with me tonight and ask her for forgiveness since you did it to help save someone who needed to exact revenge on those Goblins. I think if it were brought to her that way, she would be OK with it. I will make sure my prayers can accommodate two tonight."
Cameron then goes to the new person they just found to see if he would like healing and if he would like to be more formal in his introductions now. Cameron knows nothing of this warrior except that he didn't shank Cameron when he had the chance, which is a good sign.
" Hi, we met before, up on the hill when I came and gave you my very last caramel apple. How was it? I always wanted to eat it but was never hurt enough. Like I said before, my name is Cameron, cleric of Jancassis. And you are?"
Cameron will look for some small spiders, scorpions and centipedes as he makes camp tonight, for his prayers. He also looks at the goblin's loot with detect magic and detect poison.

Zee huffs up to the group, starting with Carver- who never likes fussing- she prestidigitates clean adventures. She also works for a few minutes to do what minor repairs to the clothes and equipment, "...but it won't help much I am afraid."

Zee works through all of the party, and offers praise and small jokes for her troop. She really does love these men and she feels a deep relief that they have survived the encounter. Hopefully, a little healing from the others, a little cleaning from Zee, a smile, and a soft word. The truth is that she brings very little to the party, and she couldn't save them.

To Walter, Zee greets him and gets his name. She offers her assistance, but as usual she will not take the title wizard, mage, or sorcerer. She seems reluctant to advertise any role as a magic user, because her skills (in her mind) are paltry parlor tricks and light shows.

Cameron is that last that she checks on, and she can't help grin, "You are such a dwarf." Zee takes a seat next to the cleric, "Auntie Alemi always said that the gods of testing were there for the stubborn. So the pig-headed could learn what the gods of Wold taught to the gentle. You and I are very stubborn; maybe the Lady sent us a test: we tested the goblins and the goblins tested us. We let some of the archers escape alive, they are sure to rally more of the tribe and seek vengeance. Doesn't that make you happy, proud... I dunno satisfied?" Zee prestidigitates a clean cleric of Vengeance and then winks, "Besides, you have to help me decide the perfect revenge for our goblin guest, Eats-Twice. Shall I turn him rainbow colors for the next few hours, or do I magically steam-clean his gross-blood rag armbands?"

The goblin dead march - CoDM Corsario
Saturday March 28th, 2015 2:41:51 AM

OOC: Thanks for the party treasure spreadsheet Eric R.
The good berries are still good (pun!).
Cameron, you could spend it. But you can't finish the day with 3 hero points, only 2.
But you are right, you won 200 xp for the "brothers" encounter.
Walter, I forgot, your equipment was with the goblin treasure.

After making sure the archers leave for good, Mack goes back to translate for your new prisoner.
The Goblin answers Atlas first, while hitting the couple of bands on his arm.
"We are the blood tribe. I am chieftain eat-twice. We came looking for the food and treasures at the pillar of light."
He also answers Cameron questions:
"Why are they (the goblins) in the Red Hills?"
Looking for food and treasures
"Where is their home camp?"
1 week of travel north
"Who do they worship?"
The gods
"Have they seen the lights at night?"
Yes, that is why they came
"Does he know what the lights mean?"
Yes, there are treasures, and food, there
"Where are the lights coming from?"
He points in the general direction of the lights
"Is this goblin sorry for all of the evil things he has done and willing to repent, or is he evil to the core? Listen close to this answer Mack, I may nor be able to tell if he is lying when he answers and I really think it will be the answer that decides his Fate going forward."
He tells you he is a goblin. He does no evil, he just eats and takes what he wants, as is his right.
At 'Osul question about the blood soaked bands, he answers.
"We paint our bands red every time we eat. Of before, if needed. It is blood of our food, or whoever of us we need to eat, if we don't find food."
He seems to be telling the truth. And Carver can see, clearly, he is evil.
Cameron explains you how the politics of the Goblins work, and then he thinks you need to camp soon.
'Osul bandages all the wounds with expert hands.
Finally Cameron and Zee talk about her usage of Jancassis on her intimidation attempts.
Cameron is going to keep rebuking her when he sees 6 ogres coming from the north west, two of them eating what seems the remains of the goblin archer that escaped that way.
They seems hungry for more meat.

"Well, if this is a cruel joke I for one am not amused. Crosseye, please take back the wand and explain how to use it to Osul as you heal Our new friend. If these chaps don't know the Brothers, one of you will need to use it to stuff my insides back inside me."
"I'll deal with the ogres, the rest of you prepare to save me if this all goes horribly wrong."
"You, are coming with me."
Cameron says as hr points to the tied up goblin chief.
Cameron quickly casts a light orison, softly illuminating the symbol of Jancassis around his neck. Whip coiled in his right hand and the lead rope for the goblin in his left Cameron sets out at a purposeful speed towards the newly arrived Ogres. As he strides forward he squares his shoulders and tries not to think how quickly those ogres must have eaten the half dozen escaping archers.
He is unsure what the others might have in mind, but he heard the goblin's response loud and clear. It has no remorse for anything it may have ever done. It takes, maims, kills and eats it's foes. It is pure evil. Cameron can tell even without the look from Carver.
He has no hesitation when he addresses the Ogres in Giantish.
" Well met! The Brothers are our friends and have instructed me to let any others we find know this. We had just routed those goblins into the woods and thank you for finishing what we were too slow to do. This fat one here, says his name is Eats Twice and is their chief. Just look how fat he is! He and his band took one of the men I have under my protection as a prisoner and no doubt they would have eaten him tonight. The Lady of Vengeance begs me that he pay for this affront to one of her followers in kind. I have no taste for goblin myself, but you all seem to appreciate the flavor a fat goblin like this chief would have if he were to be slowly roasted over a fire. As a token of my respect I offer not only him, but the rest of his recently large and terrifying band as a nice dinner. Please honor the Lady's wishes and make him scream as long as you can as you prepare him for dinner tonight."
Cameron bows to the Ogres and offers the end of the rope holding the goblin.

Zee swears under her breath, she is tired and so are the others. It is still wet and rainy and now there are ogres. Ogres! She slips back among her men and starts to weave together some cantrips. Her power is all but exhausted, she can barely tie these messages together, but if she can, it maybe of use to the others...

Anyone who watches Zee instead of the Orges (so no one it is likely) can see that small paper thin cuts bite into Zee's palms and one index finger. Handling this much magic has been taxing, Zee cannot use anymore.

As I have no magic that I know of (yet) I really don't understand much just that I am able to use it but some us can't. It might be that just because of my skill with healing, but I really don't know. Do you know much of such things?" Cameron goes ahead to face the Ogres, pulling the Goblin Chieftain behind. You all think he has become mad, as he looks tiny in front of the hulking beasts.
After a couple of minutes of conversation, the ogres grab the Goblin Chieftain rope, and go away, going north.
Whoever rope that was, you lost it.
You all breath again, relieved....

Cameron explains you what transpired. The Ogres did in fact knew the brothers, and accepted the offer to "eat" together as a token of friendship. They had been marauding the zone as there is a lot of groups going to and from the place where the lights are coming from, and where even thinking in raiding the Tree of Parting.
Cameron explain them it was a bad idea, and he hopes he convinced them of it. But you realize that if the beacon is not turned off soon, more and more monsters will come, and eventually they will reach, and maybe overrun, the tree.

As the need for my goblin speaking abilities quickly grinds to a halt, I feel a little sorry for the goblin being handed over to the ogres, and the thoughts about how that is going to go for him.

I try to get the thought out of my head as I head over to meet the captive. "I'm Mack! Banjo player, and eater of much food. Glad we were able to get to you in time!"

I didn't see any tents among the goblin gear, but I give everything a second look over and see if there's anything we can possibly use.

As we discuss night watch, my first assumption is that Walter will join Pips and I on 2nd watch, but I'm completely open to whatever works. (Current night watch is on the WIKI.)

Zee has seen to all the party, and since there is no need for further lines of communication she allows the message to fade away. Supper tastes as bad as it looks, because Zee is sick about Cameron's negotiations. Several times she starts a question to Carver or to Atlas and it dies on her lips. That creature is a prisoner? or... She does not want to think about the alternatives. "Carver? Carver, was that goblin evil? Does Gargul tell you if things are evil?"

Zee withdraws to work out her thoughts, and clean and tidy. Walter Woodruff receives a complete magic wash and mend. Zee smiles at the man, "I think that we absolutely want you to travel with us. Some of this group's best additions joined on the road." she stage whispers (just to bait the dwarf-in-halfling's-clothing), "And so did Cameron!" Walter finds Zee very talkative and welcoming; he soon finds an invitation to practice sparing with Atlas and herself. Zee is zealously committed to the exercise.

Finally, Zee wants to know if the group can use the beetle wings and carapace to make a lean-to or extend the tent. "I am exhausted, but I will give others the dry spot by Carver in his tent if need be. I don't know if I will be able to keep us dry and clean if I do, but I don't want to be selfish."

Walter introduces himself and Carver waits till the others are finished before he speaks up.

Cameron returns to the group and sees the new guy still bleeding. He retrieves the wand from Crosseye again and uses it to heal their new arrival. He explains to 'Osul that it is almost completely identical to using divine power to heal, but the wand supplies the power instead of the caster.

Walter heal 9 points of damage. (Three charges are now used from the wand)

He then explains what went on with the Ogres.
" The Ogres knew the Brothers and took it as a friendly overture when I offered to 'share' our food with them. The goblin chief was clearly evil with no inkling of remorse for having killed, robbed, eaten and having done Jancassis knows what else to countless helpless captives that he had taken. He was the leader of his tribe and such practices were what he taught his underlings. Walter would have been another such meal come sundown, I have no doubt. I think Jancassis would have found it quite fitting that he should die by being eaten by something that had taken him captive. Hopefully she will look upon us favorably for having taken revenge for all of Eat's Twice's victims. All in all I think she would be pleased with today's progress."
"I think we can quite favorably fashion a shelter from the bug parts. Since there was empty space left in the tent last night while we were all being chivalrous to our fellow adventurers I will take a turn in there tonight. I will need a full nights sleep to overcome all of the poisons and such I have in my system and to beat this fatigue. If we start gathering for a camp now we should be able to put up something to keep us all dry."
" Oh, and I should also mention that the Ogres said they were drawn in by the beacon as well. They were even considering a raid on the Tree. I dissuaded them, mentioning how badly they would be mauled by a bunch of bow wielding elves, shooting from a tree too tall for them to reach their attackers from. That seemed to make up their minds against the raid. But we do need to stop that Beacon, and soon before anything nastier gets the same idea."

With the use of goblin tarps, beetle shell, and iridescent beetle wings this lean-to looks more and more like a dark fairy's hut.

Because I took the time and made the rolls Eric. Most of the time in PBP you have to bold, italicize and underline the healing for folks and sometimes they still don't take it. Merely saying you have berries available doesn't normally do it. Say that you feed them to the hurt people roll the healing for them for a better effect. It would work better and be easier face to face, honest.

" A good question. To the goblins, almost certainly. In the eyes of my goddess, not at all. To the rest of you, well that is up to all of you to decide."
" The goblin had a history of eating, killing and taking whatever he wanted from those unable to defend themselves from him and his tribe. He chose to attack us when we tried to get him to let his captive go. When the battle started to look bad for him he could have stood and fought, but he chose to run, abandoning all of his followers."
"No matter how dire our situation I have not put my survival ahead of any of the rest of you. I am small, weak and not a lot of good in a fight because of those things. But I am capable of making your opponents easier to hit and, when I have spells left, keeping you all alive. In the past I did turn my back on helping my friends, As I told most of you soon after we met, in order to mount a near suicide fight to save some helpless circus folk. I regret that I had to choose between my friends and total strangers, but I know I made the right choice in saving those people. I didn't know it then, but Jancassis was guiding my hand even then."
"If you all decide that I am evil because of my decisions and choose to have me leave I will not hold it against you. You are all moral people and have your own path to your morality. I have committed to a path that will most likely hurt myself and quite possibly those around me to gain revenge on someone that needs to be removed from society and is responsible for a great many deaths. Deaths of heroes that helped the downtrodden and were my extended family. That path will have some hard choices in it, including proving to Jancassis that I can put aside all emotion about a person and judge them by the facts that their deeds reveal. That goblin was a means to an end for me. That end is not winding up roasting over an ogre fire tonight to be their main course. For me, that decision has been made and I will not lose a moments sleep tonight over it. He got what he deserved."

Despite the possibility of a low area flooding, Cameron can see the tactical idea that Atlas puts forth. He adds to that idea that the fire needs to be dug into a pit to further conceal it and be inside the shelter if at all possible which will conceal it even more and keep the shelter warmer. He aids 'Osul as much as he can with the construction.
As for the bodies, if the Ogres did not take them to add to their feast, as Cameron suggested he will help drag the as far away as the group seems to think is needed to keep predators out of their camp.
Survival to aid 'Osul 12 (+2 to 'Osul's shelter building roll)
Perception on watch 10 (Yay a 1)

During his watch, Cameron goes outside the shelters and as he is accustomed, prays silently and alone in the dark. He eats a small poisonous creature that he has found while making camp and allows the poison to calm his mind and still his body. When he has become centered and calm, he mulls over the days activities and asks Jancassis to evaluate them for him.
Was he still following her teachings? He thinks so. He has done what he had to do both to survive and to keep his friends alive. He has taken revenge for all of those whom the Blood tribe have taken prisoner, killed and eaten. He has made the Red Hills and the Tree a safer place by his actions.
Was Zee out of line using the Lady's name and likeness to frighten the goblins? Again, he does not think so. She portrayed the Lady as she is commonly known. She used her powers to strike fear into the hearts of evildoers and break their spirits. She made them feel the fear they inflict on those they capture and terrify, in essence a small form of revenge.
Finally he thanks her for the protection that her name provides him and his friends in this wild place. He promises that he will soon undergo her trial and take the next steps toward becoming her tool of vengeance in this world.

The goblin dead march - CoDM Corsario
Wednesday April 1st, 2015 1:38:13 AM

OOC: Guys, you really have to pay more attention to each other's posts... 'Soul made a great Survival check and some of you keep trying to help Crosseye.
The night passes quickly, with rain and thunder. You realize spending it on the hilltop you not only be unwise, but downright dangerous.
You wake up to a cold wet morning, with light rain, but at least you are no longer fatigued.
Where to now? What is the new order of March? Any special precautions?

"Thank you Cameron and Crosseye both. That is the first wand I've seen - and it seems like something ... " His voice trails off. He has no words to explain, and he feels more than a bit like an idiot.

"Thank you Zee, in fact, thank you everyone for pitching in and getting the digs ready!"

OOC: Perception check for his part of the watch with Crosseye: 25

After which he looks forward to some reflection time in the sunrise.

---OOC---
...but until then 'Osul is fatigued, and can neither run nor charge, and takes a 2 point penalty to Strength and Dexterity (already accounted for). Doing anything that would normally cause fatigue causes the fatigued character to become exhausted. After 8 hours of complete rest, fatigued characters are no longer fatigued.

OOC: I wasn't questioning your boldness, David... I was questioning your boldness with the wrong items. :)

As to aiding another, again, maybe reading reality into it too much.... our characters wouldn't know who made the best role. Our character would be aiding the person that is inherently the most talented (in our minds) at a specific skill.

On vacation, so have to keep these to short bursts....

IC: I do what I can to aid in wherever we are going next.

base d20 roll or anything needed: 3. failure. ;)

Cameron ( I assume) watched the light show again last night and got an idea of where they needed to go to get to it. I the morning he awakes refreshed and poison free for the first time in days. He stretches and is an all around pleasant guy this morning. His prayers showed no displeasure from his Goddess and indeed he feels like he has passed several more of her tests. He suits up and prepares for the day.
" Based on how many and how tough the critters are that the lights are attracting we need to find them, today hopefully. They did not seem far last night. If we camouflage this dwelling a little we might make it there today and stop the lights and then return here to sleep before heading home. This was an excellent dwelling 'Osul. Thank you for spearheading the making of it."
" If the beacon as the monsters are calling it is guarded we might have to mislead them. What I propose, without any concrete knowledge of course, is that we figure out how to disable it and that we use it's power to summon all of the monsters in the area to let them know that the Tree is well protected by adventurers and will be impossible to take. If we can plant that seed in the dull minds of a great number of monsters and monstrous tribal leaders I think we can assure the safety of the Tree fr a long time and make our job that much easier in the future. Remember, Gaston is still out there. There are more threats to the Tree than just monsters."

Cameron does what he can to help camouflage the dwelling and then is ready to set off once 'Osul has had his time to commune with the natural forces of the wood.
Survival to help hide the dwelling 5
Survival to help find the Beacon 12
Perception along the way 12 (darn rain)
overall outlook on how this little project is going 100,000

Carver (John C) AC 16, AC 18 with shield, CMB 6, CMD 12, HP 21/21 Character Sheet
Wednesday April 1st, 2015 2:31:07 PM

"I see only one problem with that Cameron. Most of these monsters you wish to scare off, will only recognize brute force. I have no problem with using force, as you know, but we will be limited to the amount of force we can dish out at one time. If we run into more, call them bad guys, while we are recovering from delivering said force, I would expect them to apply the same type of logic against us.
So, we need to be very careful not to be overwhelmed.
I do agree we need to find this light show source and shut it off, so lets set that as our goal, and any misdirection as to the ability of defending the Tree and a very distant follow up."

Carver adds his thoughts while packing up his tent and is ready to go shortly afterwards....

Posting for ATLAS (Cade R)  d20+3=18 ;
Wednesday April 1st, 2015 6:04:55 PM

Atlas echoes the thoughts of Cameron and Carver. He soon hustles the group onto the trail, and as always he volunteers for the most dangerous assignment. The road is tedious place, and danger is everywhere. Atlas thinks of the focusing chants of the monks he grew up with and son his mind is void of all distraction. His thoughts are clear: What do I notice that could harm my allies? I want a cold beer, and I wanna see something nekked."

Zee awakes refreshed and soon has a terrible looking, delicious tasting gruel for everyone. That's right, Walter, the thin gruel is made with no campfire- in the rain- and tastes like a warm mushroom and cheese omelet. Zee is quick to wash up, and starts talking to Cameron, Osul, and Crosseye about camouflaging the camp

Zee spends one Touch of Destiny on each to improve the task, and she says, "I think if you pointed to some leaves and light twigs, I can place them on the roof, with out us climbing up there."

Zee finally tasks Pips to stay and hunt. She is small, but she has helped Zee in this way many times before the group, and it might be nice to have a brace of coney, or a pile of quail tonight.

Zee sets off in the middle of the group, and hopes they reach the lights soon. For the rest of the day she is happy to dry and clean the party as they pass in and out of the rain.

March, march and march - CoDM Corsario
Thursday April 2nd, 2015 1:11:52 AM

OOC: Yes, you are all healed and not fatigued, but also cold and wet with the morning's light rain.
Cameron tries to lead you towards the beacon's estimated position, but some creeks, mud and dense forests make the day progress poor.
A couple hours marching, Atlas finds a place of battle. Goblins. A dozen killed. Some have a black arrow tattooed on their cheeks, the others a red hand painted on their armor and clothes. They seem to have fought among themselves.
At half day you realize you won't be able to reach the beacon before nightfall.
What would you do?
- Return to camp and try tomorrow (maybe there will be no rain, and you know the way better)
- Camp at the place night catch you (and risk being fatigued the next day if the rain doesn't stop)
- Press on, and arrive at the beacon at night
Survival DC 10: Highlight to display spoiler: {There is a 50% chance rain stops during the night, and 50% chance it won't rain tomorrow}
Survival DC 20: Highlight to display spoiler: {There is a 30% chance rain stops during the night, and 75% chance it won't rain tomorrow}
