Wil past the will save but waited within the cage. He felt guilty for missing the trap. He pulled out the rapier and waited.

[Everybody please take 200 XP for the previous scene.]

The cage closes and begins to ascent. Alizar is trapped inside. We'll assume Avin is, too, although we haven't heard from him in a while. Wilford could have avoided it but chose not to, so he is also inside the cage. Talanthrel leaps out of the cage, then changes his mind and tries to catch hold of it as it ascents. He barely succeeds, clinging for dear life as the cage rockets upward. Toston tries to follow suit, but isn't strong enough to hang on, and drops back to the tunnel. Var nimbly leaps out of the way of the cage door.

So, inside the cage are Alizar, Avin, and Wilford. Talanthrel is clinging to the bars on the outside. Toston and Var are left in the tunnel below.

Alizar, Avin, Wilford, and Talanthrel Highlight to display spoiler: { The cage ascends rapidly, with a tremendous rattling of chains and clanging of bars. Whoever set the trap can surely hear it coming. Heck, the entire City Above can probably hear it coming.

The cage comes to a stop, and the walls bang open. You are in a scarred, dirty courtyard. The ground here is covered with sharp bits of metal, and pieces of broken glass. Footing will be hazardous [OOC: difficult terrain]. Facing the cage are three figures. You recognize one of them: Anner, the were-rat who ran from the previous ambush. Oh, and you recognize another one: "old man" Jenkins, looking not so old. And there's a tough-looking dwarf holding a crossbow.

The dwarf fires at Alizar, and the bolt strikes him for 8 damage! Anner shifts into were-rat form, and so does "old man" Jenkins! The fight is on!

Alizar did not so much feel the bolt as much as he felt like he got punched in the chest. It took a moment for him to realise what had happened, and as he stumble backward a few steps, he looked down and saw the crossbow bolt sticking out of his armour. He managed to suck in a few breaths as he stumbled a few steps back behind the party, to try and get a bit of cover. His training took over, and he placed a hand on his chest, channeled the positive energy required, and released the healing force into himself.

(Cure Light Wounds: d8+2= 8 hp)

Alizar felt the magic flow through him and the crossbow bolt fell to the ground as the wound closed itself.
"That never hurts any less..."

(O.O.C.: Sorry, just a quick mechanics question on the scale of the map. How big is each square for purposes on movement?)

"Thorney puss-filled hells!" Var mutters once the realization sets in the he and Toston are stranded at the bottom of a pit while his comrades get murdered. Following Toston's lead he attempts to scale the walls.

(First roll should have +6 added to it. Climb: 18 & 19)
(Ooc: so a quarter of my move speed is 7.5, if I double move does that get me 15 feet up the wall?)

Looking up, Var tries to gauge how far up the tunnel goes (perception: 10), but has trouble climbing & craning his neck at the same time.

"Oh, you dirty rat," Wil begins. His voice baritone and the anger evident.
"Are we going to do this,now!" Wil's voice returned. "Are we going to fight over my body?"
"You bet," Wil replied to himself. His voice low. "After that pitiful fight last time someone has to do something."
Wil fired his hand crossbow, through the cage, at the rat 15 yards ahead of him.
(Attack: 5) (Hit: 4)
"Really! Wil you made me miss."
"Give me back my body and we can fire, right."
At this point Wil has lost out on the embarassment part and he is now just fighting to regain the ability to use his body.

Seeing the situation, Var and Toston begin climbing for all they're worth. [OOC: Yes, you can take 10 if you like.]

Meanwhile, Talanthrel extracts himself from the cage, and can act this round.

Alizar cures himself. The squares are 5-foot squares.

Wilford is distracted by the spirits, and misses his shot. Actually, now that he has a moment to process, he realizes that the spirits are furious. Not at him, but at those who made a mockery of them by faking a haunting. "Gut them!" shrieks a voice in his ear. "Make them paaaaay," hisses another.

Meanwhile, the were-rats advance, and both attack Wilford! Two rapiers pierce his armor and draw blood! Wilford is hit twice for a total of 14 damage.

Then the dwarf changes forms--into a bear! [OOC: I'm going to continue to use the dwarf icon, unless it's too confusing. Let me know.] Snarling, he moves up to Avin, but does not attack yet.

Talanthrel now standing upright, rolls his shoulders to loosen them, then smiling grimly removes the peace bond from his sword and draws his blade. Looking at the rat in front of him he says "Come closer so I can kill you, like the beast you are."

Alizar, recovered from his wounds, sees the two were-creatures attack Wil. Shifting forward the space between them, Alizar rested his hands on Wilford's back, channeled the forces of the divine, and poured the positive energy into Wilfords body.

His work done, Alizar shifts back into cover behind Avin.

Wil falls backward initially. The voices screaming many things within his head. "That damn rat," becomes prominent. Wil's spirit is weak but his body stands. The anger from the collection of spirits within him support him. The energy from Alizar is welcomed but you wouldn't be able to tell. Wil's eyes flashed red as he pulled the rapier that he held and slashed outward toward the enemy.

Var continues his ascent up the side of the tunnel (take 10 on double move: 16 for both), moving another 15 feet upwards, he checks again to see how much futher he has to go until the top of the shaft (Perception: 17).

"Toston!" Var shouts to the gnome "That...Dragon magic you did before, Does it give you claws or wings or something?"

"I can grow claws for a very short time now! They could be useful in battle but they aren't terribly beneficial for climbing. As for wings, maybe someday, but not now! How far away are we from the top?" Toston calls back to Var.

Var and [/b]Toston[/b] continue climbing. Var looks up and can see the top of the shaft now. One more surge, and you're there. [OOC: You can both reach the top next round. Toston, because of his slower speed, will require a full round of climbing. Var will use only a move action, and can act next round. Place your icons somewhere near the rest of the group.]

Talanthrel draws his weapon and gets ready.

Alizar heals Wilford, who takes a stab with his own rapier. He doesn't have much luck, however; perhaps the dead voices need to pipe down so he can concentrate!

Avin....does something, and one of the rats takes damage. [OOC: Thomas is swamped at work and will be taking a break from the Wold. I'm going to semi-NPC him here, because you guys are shorthanded as it is.]

The two were-rats step up to flank Wilford. Both attack! Both hit! Wilford takes 16 points of damage from two rapier strikes!

Meanwhile, the bear who used to be a dwarf steps over to engage Talanthrel. He rakes with his claws and hits! Talanthrel takes 9 damage.

"Just about there...!" Var says back to Toston, and pulls himself up the last few feet of the shaft. Ripping one of his Handaxes from it's peace-bonded sheath with one hand, and hauling himself up with the other, Var glares at the were-beasts and attacks the Wererat to the left of Wilford (Attack: 23 vs AC; 4 damage).

The situation was going from bad, to worse, to catastrophic very quickly. Alizar saw Wilford go down, but he needed to do something about the wererat to his right before he could safely move in to stabilise him. It was time for desperate gambit. Alizar pulled one of his sleeping arrows from his quiver and aimed at the wererat on the right hand side of Wilford. He pulled the string back, and touched his finger to the side of his mouth as he was taught. "I hope this works", and with that, he loosed his sleeping arrow.

(Attack: 11 Vs AC ; 7 Non-Lethal DMG - Will Save Vs DC 11against Sleep - Forgot to add +1 above for magic arrow)

With the arrow loose, Alizar steadied himself and steeled his resolve. He quickly placed a hand on Talanthrel's back, summoned the positive energy, and flowed healing magic into his compatriots body.

(Spending a Hero Point - Cure Light Wounds; +5 HP to Talanthrel)

Alizar could feel the exhaustion coming on. The tide of the battle needed to change, and fast, or there really would be no heroes left in Dirt City...

Toston takes another double move action (take 10 x 2) and emerges from the hole.

Seeing the dire straights that his companions are in he puts forth a heroic effort and casts shield on himself. (spending a hero point for another action)

He then taunts their assailants, "Hey traveling circus, why don't you take on me!"

Wil falls. The blood from the wounds pool under him. Darkness overwhelms him as he seems to float away.
"You killed my boy," Wil hears his mother say from a distance.
"I did not. He killed himself," replied the low baritone voice.
"What's your name?" Insisted his mother.
"Alexander," the other voice replied.
"Well, Alexander... what are we going to do now?"
A few unintelligible words but Alexander had no answer.
"I tell you what we are going to do," insisted his mother. "We are going to pray to Gargul that he stays alive."
"I didn't do anything," stated the voice of a little girl.
"I know but we all need to help," replied his mother.
Alexander remained quiet as the other voices began to chant. The voices slipping farther and farther away.

Talanthrel reeling from the bears attack, mutters "This is not good!" as he sees Will go down. Feelling the healing energy flow thru him from Alizar he smiles grimly and says "Thanks."
Steeling himself for what he is about to do and thinking "Armor don't fail me now!" Talanthrel reaches down and grabbing Will heaves him behind him (Standard Action), then reaches into his pouch and draws out a potion of Cure Light Wounds (Move Action) and trying to push himself just that much faster pours it down Will's throat. (Hero Point-Extra Action)(Cure Light for +4 to Will)

OOC: ok I am sure that drew a bunch of Attacks of Opportunity. Ouch I cringe.

Var comes surging out of the shaft and attacks one of the were-rats. His axe hits, but seems to do no damage. [OOC: your axe isn't silver, right?]

Alizar fires a sleep arrow, but it skips wide of the nimble were-rat. Making a heroic effort, he heals Talanthrel.

Toston comes out of the shaft a few steps behind Var. He, too, makes a heroic effort, and casts a protection spell on homself.

Wilford bleeds.

Avin does something else, and one of the were-rats drops. It shifts back into the form of "old man" Jenkins.

Talanthrel yanks Wilford behind him and draws a potion. Forcing it down Wilford's throat is a full-round action, so unfortunately a Hero Point isn't going to be enough to get it done this round. I'll consider that Hero Point unspent.

The good news is that Talanthrel only draws 2 attacks of opportunity, since one of the were-rats is down. The were-rat's rapier isn't strong enough to get through his armor, but the bear who used to be a dwarf rakes him with his claws! Talanthrel takes 8 damage.

Then the bad guys go. The bear attacks Talanthrel again, this time making two swipes with his claws! Only one of them hits, but Talanthrel takes another 9 damage.

The remaining were-rat jabs his rapier at Var, and this time he hits! Var takes 5 damage.

Var seems surprised that his weapon didn't seem to work on the beast, he was sure he hit it. Then he remembers "were-beasts, right..." Grimacing in pain at getting jabbed by the rapier, Var draws his masterwork Longbow and one of the two Silver arrows he purchased. Taking a risk on the opportunity attack Var fires the silver arrow at the Wererat, despite the risks. (14 vs AC; 2 damage - ignore the d6 roll)

Wil listened as the dead chanted. The distance between the voices and the void behind him seemed to stop growing. Wil suddenly recalled the chanting from his childhood. His family would often speak the words over the body of a dead relative. It never seemed to work so Wil had little faith it would help him.

Alizar's frustration grew as he watched his arrow sail past it's intended target. 'Stay Calm', he thought to himself. 'You can't do your job if you're worked up into a rage. The team needs you'.
At that moment, Tal hauled Wil's body towards Alizar in a mighty heave, coming to rest near his feet. Without time to even think, Alizar knelt down and attempted to stabilize his dying teammate.

(Heal - First Aid on Wil to Stabilze: 19 Vs DC 15)

His wounds were serious, but nothing Alizar had not treated before. He was able to stop the bleeding and Stabilize. Now to bring him back from the brink...

Toston draws his silver nunchaku, realizing that somewhere along the climb the peace bond cords had dematerialized as they had the first time he left the city below. You gotta love magic. He thinks to himself.

He takes a diagonal 5 foot step toward the were rat. He then flurries against the were rat with the nunchaku, "Hey haven't we done this before?" Toston asks the creature. "My name is Toston Lotor, you hurt my friends, prepare to taste silver."

Unfortunately both attacks are off target (13 vs AC; 9 vs AC) less taunting, more hitting the sorcerer monk thinks to himself.

Var changes weapons, and risks an attack of opportunity to get off a shot. The were-rat's rapier jabs Var's arm for 2 damage. Unfortunately, the were-rate dodges out of the way of his silver arrow.

Wilford remains unconscious, but Alizar is able to stabilize him, so at least he won't bleed to death.

Toston brings out his silver nunchaku, but the were-rat dodges these blows as well.

The were-rat attacks Var again, but doesn't quite manage to get through his armor. He takes a 5-foot step away, allowing the bear/dwarf to step in closer. The bear swipes twice with its claws--once at Talanthrel and once at Toston. The claws swish right over the head of the nimble gnome, but Talanthrel is hit again for 6 damage.

Aliar was fully into triage mode by this point, so when Talanthrel fell in front of him, Alizar immediately grabbed his body and hauled it backwards to try and get it out of harms way. With Wil stabilized, he set to work on Tal, who was in a pretty bad state by this point. Hopefully he would have enough time to stabilize before it was too late.

Lornak confirms the sounds are indeed cries of battle as he reaches the threshold, crossbow at the ready. "This has to be them." He thinks to himself. He takes a moment to make sure the peace bond will not stay his silver arrow, should the need arise. Familiar words enter his mind.

"Assess your surroundings." Lornak enters the room and skirts the wall.(Mover Action) The scene looks grim.
"Determine the threat, if any." The gangly Warerat reveals itself as the gnome recoils from his flurry of blows.
"Mark your target." Lornak focuses himself and raises his weapon, training it at the Warerat. "They are in great need."
"Let loose." Lornak pulls the trigger. (Attack Action) d20+7=9

Lornak backs against the wall (Free Action to roll Stealth) d20+4=20

OOC(I don't know if the stealth roll is free or not, if not, disregard)

"Gargul is a powerful god," replied his mother. "Thank the god he is now stabilized."
Wil took in a deep breath. His lungs filled with air but strained slightly. He then slept. Dreams begin dancing within his head.

Var draws his second (and last) silver arrow, and then shifts his aim to the werebear, firing off a quick shot over Toston. (attack 18 vs AC; 3 damage).

Var takes a quick five foot step to shield Alizar while he attends to the wounded.

Seeing Talanthrel fall, Alizar rushes over to stabilize him. [OOC: Any kind of magical healing also stabilizes. So Rebuke Death would stabilize.]

A drow appears in the courtyard. Some of you, remembering your earlier fight with the House of Silver, may be a little alarmed at this. Reinforcements? Then Lornak draws his bow and fires at the remaining were-rat. The shot flies wide, but it is apparent whose side the drow is on. He is, in fact, reinforcements, but for the good guys! [OOC: Stealth is part of a move action.]

Wilford is stable at -7 hit points. He is unconscious, dreaming of Gargul. [OOC: It's a relatively safe condition to be in, but a little challenging in play-by-post where you are required to post every day. Hopefully it won't be for too long. :) ]

Var fires at the bear, and does a small amount of damage.

Toston continues flailing at the were-rat with his nunchaku, but is unable to hit.

Avin does something to damage the were-rat.

On his turn, the were-rat steps closer to his bear friend and attacks Toston with his rapier. It's a decent stroke, but the monk is too well-protected.

The bear shifts over to take a swing at Avin and another at Var. Unbelievably, both miss! The bear belows in rage. And the DM heaves a sigh of relief. :)

Take aim. Take AIM!" He scolds himself. "I rushed into the fray, these men will think me a rank armature!" Alizar was so busy that he hardly noticed the arrival of the Drow. He had just finished up stabilizing Tal when the stupidity of his actions suddenly dawned on him. "Sweet heavenly grace, I'm a bafoon! A magically talented bafoon!" Alizar placed a hand Tal's shoulder, concentrated, murmured a soft prayer, and channeled positive energy into Tal's body.

Wil sleeps.
"Isn't he cute when he sleeps?" His mother says as she stands over him.
Wil dreams but opens his eyes.. Above him stands his mother and a tall monster of a man. His face covered in hair. To the right of both is a young girl.
"What are you doing?" Wil says as he tries to stand. His body is tied to the ground with invisible restraints.
"You are unwell Wil. Alexander caused all this."
Alexander laughed. His voice boomed. "If you would of let me just take over I would of slaughtered all of them."
His mother began to reply when Wil stopped them.
"Where am I!" He shouted.
"Your dreaming. The rats gut you but your new friend Alizar stabilized you," said Alexander.
"Are they still fighting? I need to help them," Wil replied.
"Well that's not going to happen, but Gargul brought you back to this point," said his mother.
"I'm confused? Was is Gargul or Alizar?"
Alexander and his mother argued as Wil watched while lying upon his back. The young girl stepped away and disappeared into the darkness surrounding all of them.

Var changes weapons and re-positions, to give Toston a better chance at hitting the were-rat.

And Toston delivers! His silver nunchaku clonk the were-rat on the head and put him down!

Lornak berates himself, but it doesn't really help his aim. His second shot also misses.

Alizar berates himself, before healing Talanthrel. Talanthrel drinks a potion.

Wilford dreams.

Avin has run out of spells by this point, and begins using his crossbow. He's a wizard. It doesn't go well.

The bear once again attacks Avin and Var. He hits Avin, and the mage slumps to the ground. He hits Var, and the ranger takes 7 damage from the massive claw.

"So much for my romantic musings of being a silent hunter." The action was beginning to get uncomfortable close. Alizar shifted five feet back and to the left to try and stay out of the bears path of fury. The bolt that was sent screaming seemed to Lornak to be one of devastation, It felt so right when loosed. When the bold drove home Lornak realized that it was in fact not a killing blow. Upon inspection he noticed also that the creature in front of him was not a Ware-bear at all but just a normal one driven to rage. Lornak reached again for a new bolt to fill is Crossbow, but this time acquired one from its normal place(move action). He tersely drew the string back and fired.(attack action) d20=14 vs AC

The bear's claws rake Var, staggering him. His Orcish heritage, however, grants him a certain tenacity, and he does not go down (Orc Ferocity: 1/day fight for a round as Disabled instead of falling unconscious). Instead he reaches into his belt pouch and grabs a Potion of Cure Light Wounds, pulls the cork out with his teeth and downs it in one gulp. (+7 HP). Taking a moment to assess the situation while the potion courses through his body, Var takes a careful look at the bear (Nature check: 16).

Alizar continues rebuking death, this time on Avin. Avin is still unconscious, and I'm removing him from the board since his player has left the game.

Lornak realizes he doesn't have to go on wasting silver ammunition, and fires a regular bolt. However, the shot is unable to get through the bear's thick fur.

Var's half-orc heritage keeps him on his feet; he downs a potion to try to stay that way.

Toston also heals himself.

Wilford continues to slumber.

An auburn-haired human in dark clothing enters, and seems to want to help. He casts a spell at the bear, but the bear resists it. [Will save 25]

The bear roars and charges the new spellcaster! He provokes an Attack of Opportunity from Var as he passes. He swipes a claw at Dušan, and hits him for 9 damage! Hey, welcome to the game, Erik! :)

Lornak notices the mass of muscles undulate as the bear continue to swipe its claws at the party. He thinks to himself: "The Clerics hands are deft, I'll have to make friends with that one. The orc seems tough too...reminds me of the Greyman." Lornaks thoughts are interrupted as a rather disheveled man enters the scene and starts yelling loudly while slinging magic. "What is this? Another newcomer sent from Abel Boggs no doubt." Lornak nocks another bolt into his crossbow. As he pulls back the string(attack action) he thinks to himself; "An odd choice, the man looks indigent." Before Lornak can loose another bolt, the bear quickly charges out of his range towards the loud human. "Gah!" Lornak curses. "Fool, he should have kept quiet!" Lornak is forced to move to within his crossbow range. (move action).

His head swam. He adjusted his vision after a moment and realized the battle was still ongoing.
"Get up Wil," Shouted Alexander from within his head. Wil's body didn't want to move. His hands and legs were sandbags. "He ain't gonna get up," Alexander complained.
Suddenly his legs stood. They wobbled but he grabbed his hand crossbow and loaded a bolt to take on the bear.

Alizar pours a potion down Wilford. The rogue staggers to his feet and loads his crossbow.

Dušan pulls out a potion and engages in a little trash-talk.

Lornak re-positions himself. Toston casts a spell, but the Acid Splash misses its mark.

The bear, although wounded, is showing no signs of slowing down. It attacks Var and Dušan. Both claws hit! Var is hit for 10 damage; Dušan is hit for 9 damage.

"Perhaps taunting a bear was foolish idea." Was the last thought Dušan had before the pain became unbearable and unconsciousness took hold.

In a dream like state, Dušan ponders his decision to get involved in this mess. "It didn't concern me. I should have walked away."

He then hear's Johnathan, a childhood friend who he watch die unable to help at the hands of Minotaur with one broken horn. Johnathan's voice sounded closer than it ever had before. "No. You did the right thing. You may have distracted the bear long enough for the others to stop it. You know it had to be done."

"Dreg!" Alizar cursed as he saw both Var and the newcomer fall. "Has anyone checked his paw for a thorn?"

He shifted back to keep as many friends within 30 feet of himself as he could, keeping the bear out of range. While doing so he began to chant, focused a burst of positive energy, then released his will, filling the surrounding area with potent healing magic.

Toston moves to protect the unconscious Var

Alizar channels positive energy. Wilford, Talanthrel, Var, and Toston each heal 6 points of damage! And the bear does not! Nicely placed!

Of course, Dušan was out of range as well, so he needs to keep making stabilization checks.

The bear roars and turns its wrath on Toston, but the monk has bolstered his defenses and the claws do not connect!

And the map. Var's token is under Toston's, which took me a while to figure out. :)

Lornak watches the elf cover his fallen orc companion as the bear takes another savage swipe, spinning him. Lornak takes a five foot step to again get a clear view of the raging bear. (free action).
He loads another bolt into his crossbow from the familiar pouch against his leg. (move action) Lornak thinks to himself; "These fellows are stout. Whether foolishly or with cause, they fight to the bitter end." Lornak trains the bow on the bear and looses another arrow, this time hoping to bring the fight to a close so as to grant these fellows a well-earned reprieve. (attack action) d20=21 vs AC, d4=5 dmg.

"See, I told you! I told you I could hit the thing if you let me. Look!" Alexander spoke though Wil. His voice was excited. Wil shook and scolded the spirit. "Stop talking through my body."
The energy from Alizar's positive energy woke Wil from any pain and he loaded and fired another bolt.
The bolt struck again and Alexander jumped for joy causing Wil to leap awkwardly. "Gah!"
"Listen," he began and instructed Alexander that he could fire off the Crossbow but would have to allow Wil some space to operate his own body. Alexander agreed.
"Dusan is down. I should comfort him," said Lucy. The young girl that appears often.
"Offer him some comfort, Lucy. We are going to defeat this Bear together."
Wil's attitude is joyous and he urges the others to push on.

Toston feels reinvigorated by the positive energy that healed him and sees that Var is starting to come around too. Toston continues to fight defensively and moves 15 feet (soaking up an AOO) in order to both gain flanking and hopefully allow Var to stand up without taking damage from the bear.

Var's eyes shoot open, and he begins to loudly recite every profane word he knows in alphabetical order. Rolling onto his back, he sees the bear still menacingly attacking his comrades. As Toston draws the bear's attention, Var gets to his feet, pulling out his Wand of Cure Light Wounds simultaniously, and healing himself. (+7 HP)

The bear would not relent, or give Alizar enough space to make a ranged heal on the fallen new comer. He would need to try and move closer. Alizar focused once again, murmuring a soft prayer as he began to focus his magic for another wave of healing before moving to keep the bear from getting any of the magic.

Talanthrel's attack on the bear fails.

Lornak fires another bolt into the ursine.

Wil also hits the bear with a missile.

Toston moves to get a better tactical position and pull the bear's attention from Var. Once again the gnome deftly avoids the bear.

Var stands and heals himself.

Alizar channels more positive energy and Dušan stabilizes.

The bear turns back into a dwarf. He has pale blue eyes and his beard is a hoarfrosted white. He wears chainmail and an amulet around his neck with a gem that swirls blue-ish white. Although no longer ursine the dwarf still has hands that end in wicked claws.

The dwarf moves to get into a better position and then attacks Talanthrel with one claw but the half-elve's armor turns the claw aside.

He then lashes out at Var with the other and is once again thwarted by armor.

Lornak has witnessed other animals perform similar changes of shape in his wanderings, but viewing the bears metamorphosis was slightly unsettling. He takes up position near the human cleric to improve his light of sight (move action) and loads his his crossbow with a fresh bolt. (attack action).

He hasn't been in Dirt City for very long but rumors fly unfettered in this place. Lornak tests his memory to see if this particular dwarf and his amulet have any significance (free action Knowledge: Local d20=21) realizing that he does in fact know who the dwarf is. Lornak mouths; "That's Bjorn Hrzhad...!"

Thankfully, the giant bear, distracted by the attacks of his comrades, moved away from Dusan, leaving him an opening to move in. Alizar knelt next to Dusan, laid his hands on his shoulders, said the prayer he was, by now, so familiar in saying during this battle, and channeled positive healing magic into Dusan's body.

While Alizar was healing, he could hear the other newcomer yell something,

"Johnathan, Don't go yet." Dušan cries as the consciousness creeps back into him.

He hear's another voice as he begins to wake up, the voice of a child, Lucy. "Don't worry, Dušan. Johnathan has to go now, and so do you."

Dušan still hears the voice echoing as the sudden rush of pain brings clarity to his situation. He sees an Elf praying over him. "Thanks, friend."

Remembering the potion he drew earlier, Dušan drinks greedily. (OOC d8+1 rerolled 1's twice, ouch, for healing = 6 healed)

Dušan's wounds begin to stitch back together and he shakily get's back to his feet. "Ahh, but that itches!"

Talanthrel takes a swing at the dwarf, but it is the Dwarf's armor that turned Talenthrel's blow.

Var attempts to aid Toston, but the dwarf doesn't find Var's wand very threatening.

Toston draws his kama and flurries with that. His first hit is off target but his second slices the dwarf a little. (OOC: Toston's AC should be at 22 this round and 18 next round)

Lornak moves up, loads his bow and recognizes the dwarf formerly seen as a bear as Bjorn Hrzhad, a dwarf ranger known for his ferocity and ruthlessness.

Wil chats with his spirits, fires a crossbow bolt and misses.

Alizar heals Dušan.

Dušan wakes thanks to Alizar's ministrations and then quaffs a potion before standing up.

Bjorn attacks Var and his claw rakes the half-orc for 14 damage, 4 of it being cold damage. The half-orc goes down again.

Bjorn then attacks Toston but the gnome's shield of force absorbs the blow, before dissipating.

Bjorn then takes a 5 foot step towards Toston spotting an opening in the gnome's defenses as the shield of force collapsed.

You see a tall lanky armored man approach from the South East. He has brown hair extending from the back of his helmet, intense green eyes and a square jaw. He carries 2 axes and a Woldian League of Adventurers badge is displayed proudly on his breast.

No sooner than had Alizar gotten the newcomer back on his feet, Var had taken another nasty swipe from the bear, sending him back down to the ground. A doctors work is never done. With the bear preoccupied, Alizar easier moved across the field to check on Var. His wounds were surrounded with frosty ice. Alizar looked up, thinking it strange for a bear to possess such power, when he finally noticed the bear had once again changed into a humanoid shape.

Something glittering and blue caught Alizar's eye, an amulet around his neck. That must be the source of the frost power! Alizar turned to his companions, "He's wearing some sort of magic frost amulet, be cautious!"

Alizar laid his hands on Vars chest, focused his magic, and released healing energies into the half Orc.

By this point, Alizar was breathing heavier than normal. The battle was certainly taking it's toll.

Lornak's pupil-less eyes widen at the realization that the groups assailant is known for his ruthlessness. Lornak swiftly takes a five foot step to find a better vantage. As he does he hears the Elf yell to the group to be cautious of Bjorns amulet. "The amulet!" Lornak thinks to himself. Lornak raises his crossbow without hesitation and fires it at the amulet.(attack action). Called Shot: Neck(amulet) using Hero point to add +8 to roll. d20=15. Lornak immediately reloads his crossbow.(move action)

Alizar uses rebuke death on Var and starts panting hard from the exertion. He also notices the amulet around the Dwarf's neck is the source of the cold damage Var took.

Talanthrel takes a swing at Bjorn and misses.

Hmerrin charges Bjorn with his axe, he too misses.

Lornak tries to hit the Amulet with a missile, but misses. (OOC: I don't know where that +8 came from but hero points per the house rules only confer a +2 bonus on a d20 roll)

Wil aims for Bjorn's chest, hitting the dwarf solidly, but missing the amulet.

Toston casts Shield on himself again, taking a step back and regrouping.

Var dreams of the Culverwood and Dušan casts bears endurance on Var

(OOC: I think the Amulet has hardness 12 and 15 hp being a plus 1 equivalent magic item, you could try to sunder it, but you have to deal at least 12 points of damage to start damaging it)

Bjorn attacks Hmerrin, one of his claws catching the charging fighter. for 9 physical damage and 6 cold damage. The other claw misses.

"I really need to figure out a way to selectively heal only those I want to." Alizar mumbles as he falls back to keep Bjorn out of his healing radius. Unfortunately this also leaves the new warrior in the midst without a heal for now, but hopefully he can handle himself for one more round. Checking his distance, Alizar once again channels the powers of all the is good in the Wold, and unleashes the healing energies on almost his entire party. This particular torrent of healing was not exactly potent...

Lornak was disappointed that the last shot he fired was off the mark. He felt so sure it would pierce the Dwarfs center of power. The battle had become a frenzy of bodies, the other exuberant newcomer rushed onto the scene as he did. Blundering about.

Lornak thinks to himself: "Well, at least its lively." and dashes into action. He steps to the side to get a clear view to the frenzied Bjorn ending up next to the elf healer. (free action - 5 foot step)

He then raises his crossbow and fires another bolt at the Northlander.(attack action) d20=23 vs AC. d4=4 dmg and readies another bolt(move action-reload)

(OOC, the +8 came from Pazio, Using Hero Points: "Bonus: If used before a roll is made, a hero point grants you a +8 luck bonus to any one d20 roll." I was unaware this was house ruled.[If I would have known it was a +2 I would not have wasted it...])

"I wish I had a better idea of what is going on here. I know a bear is a threat, but now..."

Dušan hears the familiar voice of Johnathan, most likely encouraging him to put himself in further danger for the greater good, yet again, "Help the newcomer."

Dušan lets out a beleaguered sigh. "If you say so." he responds to no one in evidence.

Maneuvering around the melee, Dušan positions himself behind the battered fighter. "I trust you won't turn around kill me if I lend you aid. Stand strong with the Bear's Endurance."

Wil looks but sees nothing. "I don't see anything Lucy. I can't really hear anything outside of Alexander's chatter. For a spirit he has a lot to say."

Lornak watches the dwarf's body contort in shock and then fall to the ground. If the dwarf had not reached the throes of death, the elf newcomer was going to make certain that he would make his way. Lornak releases the tension on the string of his crossbow and silently puts it away.

Lornak then calmly walks towards towards the group. As he does, he slowly pulls back his hood and addresses the jovial cleric. "With hands as adept as yours, I'm fairly certain everyone came through this unscathed." He nods towards the half-orc. "Then again, there may be those that are little worse for ware." Lornak holds out his hand in offering. In it is a potion of Cure Light wounds.

"If I could find some berries, I could take some of the edge off these wounds. Those of you I aided in battle may want to take it easy. I've seen people push themselves so hard, that they collapsed once the battle was over."

"That is not funny! That is certainly not funny," Wil shouted. Alexander laughed within Wil's head.
Wil closed his eyes tightly. He saw Alexander standing within the darkness. He saw the laughter and found that he could manifest a version of himself within the darkness.

Toston seeing the dwarf dead looks for the 2 were rats. Certainly with as much positive energy Alizar was channeling during the battle it is possible that they were healed enough to escape.

Hmerrin is lanky teenage human with very green eyes and very long hair. His brown locks flow out from the back of his helm.
The lad looks suspiciously at his two clean axes, and stows them with a sigh. He pulls out a piece of cloth from somewhere and presses it to the side of his face.

"I'm Hmerrin," he replies to the half-orc. The 'H' is barely heard, just a slight aspiration before the m sound. "Hmerrin of Merrydale."
The lad winces as he hears what he just said.
"Hmerrin of Merrydale?" he says to himself. "That's just wrong."

Looking back up at Var, he continues.

"I came into town a few days ago on as a merchant caravan guard. Which is not nearly as exciting as it sounds, by the way. One of the guys told me to meet him at the Green Witch Inn, and, well, I've been looking for it for a while now.....
Anyway, it looked you could use a hand, and, uh...."

You can literally see the wheels spin as the teen starts working out the tactical situation should these nice folks he just met all alone in a dark alley during a deadly fight prove to be not so nice.

"I was just trying to help," he finishes softly, taking a step back in the direction he came.

In the aftermath of the battle, you assure yourselves that your teammates have survived the experience, and will continue to do so.

You also have questions to ask of the newcomers, which Hmarrin, at least, attempts to answer.

Toston is concerned about the welfare of the were-rats. He finds that both are stil alive, and seems to think that they will be "facing justice," which is adorable.

The dwarf-bear, however, is really dead.

His hand flourishes at chest level as he bows his torso and head slightly casting his eyes down in a gesture of service. Then to the half orc he says. "Abel Boggs sent me. I am to aid your group in its current endeavor." His eyes dart to the human rogue as he continues. "As far as how I found you... all I needed to do was follow the commotion. You seem a stout group, but none too subtle."

Wil then sees Hmerrin and offers the same greeting. Wil adjusts the tightly bound braid that falls down the back of his head and smiles. "I'm glad that you guys joined us. I was out with the first swing. No thanks to an imaginary guy name Alexander, but that is for another day... I'm very thankful for the healing and the assistance. "I helped you when you got up," Alexander replied through Wil. "Stop talking through me! ...I apologize." Wil stepped away and discussed the interruption with Alexander as the others continued to talk.

Dušan stands up in a start. He looks to be in his early 20's. He is a human on the short side of average height and slight of build, but there is a weird cast to his eyes that some may find unsettling. He ponders to himself what exactly he got himself into under the Half-Orcs gaze, but relaxes a bit at Wil's introduction.

"I'm Dušan, Dirt City born and bred. I was passing by as I heard the bear." Dušan glances at the dead dwarf and clears his throat apprehensively, "There was a bear here, right? Should I be concerned about the Knives at this point?"

Dušan looks to see if anyone else is joining their little party, but is distracted be all the attention from the various strangers.

Toston, whose 3' 8" frame is tall for a gnome, is wearing a nondescript traveler's outfit consisting of a charcoal grey shirt and breeches, dark boots and a black cloak and cloth gloves. The hood of the cloak is pulled up but you can see his purple eyes and orange skinned face and a hint of his close cropped green hair.

The sorcerer monk cleans his weapons and re-sheathes them. He walks up to Hmerrin and spots the WLA pin. "My name is Toston Lotor." Toston says extending a hand.

"You are in the WLA, yes?" Toston asks, "I too would like to join the WLA, do you know where I can go to do so?"

He then walks over to the new spellcaster and says to Dušan, "I too have some magical affinity, tell me how do you come by your powers? I'm somehow related to a gold dragon so that is where my magic comes from." Toston smiles.

Lastly he walks over to the dark elf, "Hullo, my name is Toston Lotor. You seem pretty handy with that bow."

Alizar was too busy treating the fallen Were-Rats to introduce himself to the newcomers. They might be the enemy, but he still had an oath of service to abide by, besides, maybe they might finally be able to give the group some answers. He made sure to bind their hands nice and tight with some lengths of rope from his kit, then used rebuke death to stabilize and heal them.

Alizar heard Var ask about Avin, he looked around the courtyard while brushing the hair from his eyes.
"I don't know what happened to Avin, he was here, then he was gone. Did anyone else see him leave?"

As you recover from the battle, the newcomers introduce themselves. Alizar is able to stabilize the fallen were-rats, who have reverted to their humanoid form now that they are unconscious. "Old Man" Jenkins is a human; Anner is a halfling.

Talanthrel recovers his weapons and thinks to search the fallen for valuables, sparing your group the indignity of having the DM remind you. :) Here is what he finds:

Bjorn: masterwork chain mail, light crossbow, miner's pick, 2 alchemical fires, 1 acid flask, some kind of magic amulet, a scroll, and 3 potions.

Anner: masterwork studded leather, light crossbow, thieves' tools, masterwork rapier, acid flask, 3 potions (all weapons and armor are Small)

Jenkins: masterwork studded leather, light crossbow, acid flask, thieves' tools, disguise kit (partly used), 2 potions

Dušan asks about the Knives, and indeed, you have made enough of a commotion that they will probably be here soon.

Var grabs the Masterwork Studded Leather Armor, and figures when the group is in less of a hurry later the rest of the loot can be divvied up. He uses the wand of Cure Light Wounds to give another +8 HP to Hmerrin.

"We need to locate the stolen goods...and probably leave the scene of the fight before the Knives show up." Var looks around for signs of what the 'House of Silver' did with the loot. (Perception check: 27)

"Are we leaving Anner and Jenkins to the knives?" Var asks.

Disappointed, Lornak looks around as everyone finishes their hurried introductions. "Not exactly Well Met, but it will have to suffice."

"I will put eyes on the tunnel." Lornak says as he moves to the hole where he entered the battle. He points to the cage of the center of the room along the way. "We can always drop that to cover our escape it they come that way."

He stops at the threshold and cranes his neck to focus his eyes and ears down the tunnel, searching for any sign of incoming "Knives." (Perception check d20=22)

Dušan waves back to the Talenthrel and nods to Toston. "Well, Mr. Lotor, I've always tended to bring out the best and worst in people and I guess my Magic helps in that. I had a mentor who taught me in the ways of the Blood Witch."

Dušan glances at the healer and then the rest of the party. He's found that some people harbor unfounded grudges to his kind. He takes a tentative step to leave when he hears Johnathan in his head again, "Dušan you haven't helped them enough. You can aid them more."

"Fine!" Dušan suddenly exclaims. he straightens himself and turns back to Toston, "It's been made evident that I should offer my services to you. If you require I could identify or help to identify those items and I could also aid in the interrogation. All that I would ask in return is one of those light crossbows if you are satisfied with my services. Although, I would much rather do both in another location if possible. I'm afraid I'm already carrying a load," he shrugs the backpack on his shoulders, "I will only slow us down if I carry any more, but I will help if I must."

Dušan casts Detect Magic to see if there are any magic aura's the group may have missed, but I will do the Spellcraft checks when we have more time.

If someone starts interrogating, Dušan will cast Touch of Glory to give the interragator a +2 to their charisma. Otherwise Dušan is prepared to leave the crime scene.

Alizar finished his work, and tied gags into the prisoners mouths as the rest of the party began looting the bodies of the fallen men. A regrettably necessary, although grisly ritual of this line of work. He turned to his companions and the newcomers.
"I suggest we leave, now. I'm not very optimistic on the prospects of getting any information from these two, but we should probably try regardless. Lets just try somewhere else. Do you guys have a safe house of any kind nearby we can hold up in, a warehouse or anything? I am out of healing spells and fear that I won't be any use to you in another fight until I can get some rest. I am also out of healing potions."

I for one would be happy to have you along, that is if no one else objects." He smiles, "Also Mr. Lotor is my father, please call me Toston."

"C'mon fellas," he calls. "If you got nowhere to take 'em and nuthin' you really, really, REALLY need from them, leave 'em and let's go. Or pick 'em up and let's go. The operative phrase being - 'Let's Go'"

Hmerrin pulls up next to Lornak.
"So, which way is out, exactly?"

Var looks around for the stolen goods, and finally locates a sack nearby, containing most (but not all) of the stolen items.

Lornak goes to look at the tunnel. Actually, it's difficult to see the tunnel from here. You are in the City Above. The tunnels are in the City Below. The House of Silver did dig a shaft of sorts, to bring you all up to the surface, but it is rough and uneven, and mostly blocked by the cage. Presumably, the Knives will want it filled in as soon as they discover it. Lornak himself approached the battle from the streets, not the tunnels.

Wilford begins picking up gear with rogue-like efficiency. Dušan checks, but finds no other magic items.

You agree that you need to leave. Your best bet for a place to hole up is probably Marsh House, but carrying unconscious prisoners through the streets to Marsh House is probably going to attract unwanted attention. So unless somebody says otherwise, I'll assume you leave the were-rats tied up here, and leave before the Knives arrive.

Lornak cautiously exits the room the way he came in keeping his senses keen for Knives.

Alizar packed his gear back into his pack and picked up his bow. "Right, back to the barn then." As they moved through the streets, Alizar melted back into his street persona, and tried to keep a keen eye to make sure they were not being followed.

The streets of Dirt City seemed somehow different to his eye now. Maybe it was the lingering adrenaline from that fight, it had been a while since his services had seen such combat. It was a little disturbing just how casually he was able to drop back into that role. No matter, everyone made it through the battle, the bad guys were defeated, at least for now. Not a terrible day...

Hmerrin takes a moment to tuck away his WLA pin into his pack. To Toston he notes, "the vets in the caravan said wearing this was a bad idea, and I forgot all about it. As for joining, hey, I'm not even sure if there's an office here."

The lad gives Lornak an impressed glance. "'Egress'? Really? Nice."

He accompanies the group back to wherever it is they're going, and it doesn't look like he's planning to leave.

Wil hears Dusan talking about Jonathan. "Did he say Jonathan?" Lucy asks. "I think so," Wil replied quietly. "I met Jonathan when I was checking on the Blood Witch."
"Does Dusan talk to spirits?"

"One..." Wil begins, "Leave my body alone. Two, make it known that we are similar. Personally, I'm a bit excited to share this curse with someone else."
"Hey, that is offensive," Alexander snapped.
"Then leave me alone." The others in his head suddenly became quiet. Wil smiled and turned back toward the group. Some of them had already left. Wil sped up to catch them.

"Couldn't we take the one known as Anner with us?" Toston asks his friends. "We can cover his bonds with a blanket and someone could lug him over their shoulder, seeing as he is small. I can use prestidigitation to make him smell like a bar for an hour and if anyone asks our 'friend' had too much to drink and we are taking him somewhere to sleep it off. When he comes to, we can get more information about the upstart House of Silver, seeing that Rundi didn't know much and he said that Anner did, plus he might know where the rest of the loot from the heist is." Toston proposes

If none of the taller members opt to help him, Toston will carry the were-rat halfling himself, after draping Anner with the blanket and using prestidigitation to make him smell like he had too much to drink (or better yet if allowed actually using the spell to soil the were rats clothes with strong smelling cheap wine.) Toston can actually lug Anner around seeing as Anner weighs 32 pounds and a heavy load for Toston is up to 75 pounds and Anner + his gear weighs only 56 pounds. Although Toston will be slowed and compromise his defenses, if no one else wants to help him, he feels the intelligence gathered from Anner is worth the risk, especially since w/ the wine smell + the blanket they now have a plausible explanation for carrying the halfling.

If Toston has to Carry Anner then this is the effects on him:
15 foot speed
+1 max dex to defense
-6 penalty to str and dex skills
Wis bonus to AC not active

For the time being, you scoop up Anner and take him with you to Marsh House. There are several windowless storage rooms there where you can stash him; without a way to orient himself, he won't know where he is. All you would need to do is ensure he is unconscious when he leaves.

The three newcomers, then, get their first sight of Marsh House. It is....well, it is unique. It sits near the edge of town, in the district known as Dockside. It is an odd amalgam of different architectural styles, with additions seemingly tacked on at random.

It is spacious, though, and has the aforementioned storage areas, where I will assume you leave Anner.

Given some time, Dušan is able to identify the magic items. The amulet is an Amulet of Mighty Fists, Frost. The scroll is a scroll of Magic Fang. There is one potion of Longstrider; the others are all Cure Light Wounds.

Following the group to Marsh House Lornak strikes casual conversation as the group travels. He answers Hmerrin's earlier comment. "As a Scribe, you pick up a word or two. Then winks at the young man. "A plethora of jargon."

As Lornak approaches Marsh House he is immediately struck by its odd layout. With anticipation and excitement he enters the Greatroom. His heart jumps when as he realizes the interior is as organic as the exterior. "This is wonderful." He says. "The corridors to nowhere, the curves where there should be angles, all the nooks and crannies..." And trails off. To Lornak constructed dwellings lack comfort being that they are created with mathematical precision. Then again, not everyone appreciates the beauty of stalactites.

Delighted, Lornak absently comments as he eyes the steps leading to The Round Room. "...It is my desire is to set my things in a space most cave-like, preferably one that is dark and cold."

Lornak realizes that this is neither the time nor place to let desire flood his duty. He shakes his head out of revelry and turns to the group. "I'm sorry, there are more pressing matters." (Held action- Sense Motive to aid whoever interrogates Anner) d20=20

After dressing he asks the party if anyone would like to take the amulet. Same with the Magic Fang scroll. "I prefer to fire from long range so anyone with any enhancements for my crossbow?"
"Where are we placing this rat. I am really not a big fan of these wereRats and may not be helpful in the interrogation. They knew we were coming after them."

Alizar slumped down into a chair when they reached Marsh House. He badly needed a nap. As the rest of the crew was going through the spoils, Alizar eyed a potion or two.
"I could use one of two of the potions, as I exhausted for stores in the last fight. Dump the rat in the storeroom, and we can interrogate him. Are any of you experienced with this, or do you need me? Otherwise, I could use a nap."

Alizar realized for the first time that he had been so busy, he did not introduce himself to the new folks. He stood up and walked over to the Drow and the Human, the elf fixed his hair and straightened his leather armor, which was a bit mussed from the action. His face softened, and the hard features that were there suddenly softened to a more youthful visage.
"I apologize for my rudeness, but there was business to be done. My name is Alizar Alegari, the kindly doctor of this group. I keep everyone pieced together, or at least try to. I'm not much help with the actual fighting, but I'm a pretty solid field surgeon. It's a pleasure to meet you all."

Dušan rubs his eyes after studying the objects. "Bah! Staring at auras so long is enough to make one cross-eyed."

He nods and smiles at Alizar's greeting and then collapses into a chair. "Toston, you mentioned that you were a sorcerer. I'd be happy to discuss the Arcane, but you may find my knowledge to be more practical than theoretical. Blood fuels some of our rituals, but it is the Ley Lines that truly empower a Witch's magic."

"As I offered earlier, I'd be happy to help with interviewing our rodent friend, but I'm afraid I still don't know what exactly is going on. I'm hoping I haven't overstepped your hospitality, but Johnathan says I should help you and he's rarely wrong with such things."


Once again Dušan prepares Touch of Glory to give +2 to a Charisma-based skill check if anyone starts the interrogation.

"Well I could use the amulet no doubt then all my punches, kicks, claws, elbows, knees and headbutts will do some cold damage, but it is my understanding that that amulet would fetch a pretty price at the catacombs, so would it be fair to the rest of you for me to keep something so costly from our spoils from a battle we all fought hard to win?" Toston opines.

(OOC: it's base price is listed at 4000 gp; meaning if we sold it, it would be 2000 so we could each have 250 gold or one of us could have something worth 4000 gp; does anyone else even have unarmed or natural attacks beside Toston? If so we could consider making it party treasure, but if not it seems kind of unfair from my perspective)

"As for Anner let's put him in the windowless storeroom with either a guard or the door barred. I will double check his bonds and then should we do good interrogator, bad interrogator, like last time? Though we don't have Ashley and he was a real good bad interrogator." Toston laments.

Once they have put Anner in his makeshift cell, Talanthrel hurries about the house getting several needed props. He gathers a stool, a clear glass of water, a file and a handful of silver coins. Once he has gather his props he heads back to the cell.
Looking at the others and grinning evilly he says "Well I don't think I should do the questioning but I can certainly provide a visual threat. Besides I always wanted to see what happens when you make a were rat drink a glass of water that's full of silver shavings!"

Talanthrel plans to stand off to the side of the interrogator , clearly visible to Anner and using the stool as a work bench file the silver coins into the glass water. Stirring it occasionally to really get the silver water sparkling.

You are glad for a few minutes' rest when you reach Marsh House, and indeed the large common room is able to accommodate the whole group. You discuss what you want to do with the prisoner.

Toston suggests "good questioner, bad questioner," which Hmerrin hilariously misunderstands. Talanthrel makes preparations to be intimidating while Var guards the door.

The decision is yours, of course, but knowing this group I'm thinking Alizar probably needs to be the "good questioner." What little Charisma this group has seems to be focused on Intimidate. :) Although, as I say, it's up to you.

You also discuss the disposition of the loot, an important discussion I recommend you continue. :)

Wil stood in the large common room. He handed Toston the amulet. "I would not be offended if you sold this for cash. I do not plan to be as close as I was with those wereRats. What about this Magic Fang scroll. I do not need this either? I could really use some items that help me pass some spirits to Gargul's domain."
Alexander protests within Wil's head but Wil ignored him.
"What are we going to figure out with these dirty rats? I really want to take down the House of Silver. I still think we should set up the House by notifying the House of Knives of their presence... but how to do it without causing problems for ourselves?"
"I have an idea. What if we place a sign on the wereRat that states they are House of Silver and hand them over to House of Knives guards?"

Lornak accepts Alizar's introduction. "Believe me, the pleasure is mine. If you ever attend my wounds in the manner that I witnessed this day I would be in your debt." Then Lornak slyly offers. "If you ever need to acquire obscure herbalistic components I humbly offer my ranger services." Lornak bows and flourishes his hand, then looks up and continues. "I am also quite an adept functionary of the scriptorium should you need diction and record keeping or creation of inks, dyes, parchment and the like."

Lornak then nods to Alizar and then truns away to enter the bounty conversation starting in the Great room and interjects. "I was not present when this mission was conceived. Therefore, I abstain from any decision concerning its bounty..." He pauses, then interjects with a smile. "...this time around.

"Oddly enough, on the topic of the Ware-rat I find myself in agreement with...Wilford? Lornak looks towards Wilford. "It is Wilford, isn't it? That is only after you procure the location of your possessions of course."

(OOC-I don't know the progression of time out of combat. I had a held action from my last post to help the interrogating roll but does that mean I don't post until it goes off?)

Alizar sat up,
"Right then, I'm going to go talk to our guest. Whoever wants to play 'bad constable', give me a couple minutes and then follow me in."

Alizar went back up to his room and changed back into his black physicians outfit, grabbed his medical kit, a container of water, and a lit candle, and walked down into the windowless cellar. He nodded to Var as he opened the door.

Bright light poured into the room as he entered, and was quickly cast back into darkness as he shut the door. His low light vision enabling him to see, he grabbed a table from the corner of the room, and set it in front of the halfling. Then he placed a candle at the centre of the table. Then, he moved to the other side of the room, grabbed a box, and slowing dragged it across the floor to the other side of the table, sat down, and stared at the halfling for a minute, before letting out a big sigh.
"How are you feeling, are you thirsty? I've read that the side effects of Lycanthropy can include Polydipsia."

Alizar smiled as he poured a small amount of water into a cup on the table in front of him, but did not push it forward towards the bound captive.

"Are you still injured in anyway? You're a very fortunate halfling, you're other compatriots from The House of Silver were not as lucky as you were."

"Yeah, I'm passing too. I was there for what, 15 seconds?"

In response to Talanthrel, the lad replies, "You know, it'd be a big help if somebody spilt the short version of what the heck is going on 'round here."

Alizar and Val go to talk to the ... "First question, what's a wererat?"

The brown-haired teen isn't planning to help with that, but should the situation present itself, he decides to go exploring through the house. Maybe there's an unused bed in here somewhere.....

"I don't know if we should notify the Knives, just yet." Toston opines

"Perhaps it would be best if we see how the interrogation goes first. Depending on what we learn, there may be a better play available. Also, maybe we could convince Anner to give up his wicked ways?" Toston says, "People deserve a second chance, if they are willing."

Toston then gives Hmerrin the short version of what happened. "There were reports from Clover Way that is was being haunted. We investigated and found some dyed gauze and reports of strange sights and sounds. After we returned from the city below we were ambushed by some thugs that told us to stay away from the House of Silver. After the battle we questioned one of the thugs and found out a bit more. This morning we learned that Clover Way had been robbed and the ghost story was cover for the noises of the tunnel being dug to steal from the merchants there. We followed the tunnel and it ended in an elevator trap that took us to the battle you found us in. That pretty much brings us to now."

Before Alizar and Var go into the room, Toston says, "We should try to find out where the rest of the loot is from the heist and whatever we can about the House of Silver. We know that they are new players on the scene and they were behind the Ghost of Clover Way Caper, that we just foiled and that they use the freelance go-between Stubby for recruitment sometimes. We should try to figure out what their goals are as a house and what else they could possibly be up to. Rundi said that Anner actually knew things and we now have Anner here. Also somehow they knew in short order that we were investigating what was going on in Clover Way. Was 'Old Man' Jenkins the only plant or could they have other informants? Also I'm not very good at being intimidating but I am good at reading people so I will sit in as an observer."

He then develops simple visual signals with Var and Alizar to communicate whether he thinks the rat is lying, telling the truth or can't tell. If Toston Scratches his ear it means truth, if he rubs his eyes it means lie and if he yawns, it means he doesn't know.

Toston casts the minotaur version of Toros Taur Try on Var (+1 perception / intimidate: 10 minutes) while outside the room.

Toston also enters the room, but only as an observer taking a spot out of the way in the corner. (Sense Motive: 23)

(OOC: I have made my position known as far as the treasure goes, I think we should sell the amulet because if we don't and Toston keeps it that thing will seriously propel forward Toston's WBL calculation by a lot. I might want something like that eventually, but it seems too early and too imbalanced to keep)

You discuss the loot, and seem inclined to sell most of it.

You also bring your new companions up to speed on what has been going on for the last day or two. Your mission was to investigate the alleged haunting, and you have solved it admirably. Everything you do from here on is "extra credit."

Alizar goes to interrogate the prisoner. Anner shakes his head when asked if he is thirsty. "What's poly-dipsy?" he asks. He shrugs when asked about injuries. "I guess I'll live," he says cautiously.

Toston, standing off to the side, detects no deception. Then again, Anner hasn't really said anything of substance yet.

Hmerrin, meanwhile, decides to explore the house. There are unused beds. The round room is currently unoccupied, as is the small servant's room off the kitchen. Only one of the beds in the very large bedroom is in use. I think Alizar claimed the front room earlier, or am I hallucinating?

As it seems his assistance is not needed by the other members of the group interrogating Anner, Lornak excuses himself from the Great Room. He shoulders his gear and expolres the Round Room that piqued his interest when first entering Marsh House. As he walks down the steps he notices the writing desk along the wall and notes how this would be the perfect place to do client work. He sits down on the bed he hears voices echo into the room on a wind that has a slight chill. "Just like back home..." He mumbles. He then stretches out on the bed and relief enters his body. He doesn't think he will sleep but today excitement took more of toll on him than he thought. His head propped up by his hands he sees the little alcove across on the other side of the room. " I could set up a little herbalism bench in there possibly..." and trails off as he yawns. Before he realizes whats happening, Lornak dozes off to sleep.

"Polydipsia, it's a term for chronic thirst. Just figured you might have worked up a bit of a thirst from the heist on Clover Way, and then the fight afterwards. Hell of a fight by the way, you and your House of Silver friends certainly can hold your own."

Alizar placed a small parcel on the table and unwrapped it, revealing a small hunk of cheese.
"Speaking of the heist, I have to say, that was quite an ingenious idea, pretending to be a ghost and haunting the area, digging tunnels to the shops. Of course, that would be quite a job for just the three of you. Was that your idea or someone else? How many of the House of Silver were involved in the heist?"

The lad proceeds to size up the other two beds, his father's old sayings dancing through his head as he inspects their construction and levelness.

Alizar continues talking to Anner, and begins asking him about the House of Silver.

Anner gets right to the point. "What happens if I tell you?" he asks. "You going to let me go? Give me to the Knives? What?"

Talanthrel and Var do a pretty good job of showing Anner what might happen if he doesn't cooperate, and the halfling begins to look visibly uneasy. "Look," he says. "There's no need for the rough stuff. I'll give you all I got if you let me go after." Toston, looking on, senses no deception.

Meanwhile, Lornak seems to have found a place for himself in the round room, finding it rather homey. It's not exactly like home, of course--the numerous windows flood the room with daylight--but it does have all those lovely bookshelves.

Hmerrin makes his way to the very large bedroom and evaluates the beds. There are only two actual beds up there, although there is room for a third, and possibly more. So, selecting a bed is pretty easy. If he stays, he and Talanthrel will be roomies.

Alizar calmly took a bite of the cheese as his compatriots did the snarling and chest thumping routine. He let out a breath as Anner squirmed in his chair.

"Well Anner, here is how this works. As you know, in this city, information is a form of currency. I am sure if you provide enough of it, I can convince my friends here to let you leave here alive. Golly, provide a lot of it, and I can probably convince them that you're still going to need all of those limbs attached."

Lornak is gently nudged out of his dreamstate as his neck goes slack and his head drops. He doesn't open his eyes initially because he doesn't have to. The light coming in through the windows floods his all too sensitive to his vision. "If I am to keep this room assignment. I'm going to have to cover some of those windows..." He thinks to himself.

Lornak swings his feet to the floor as he sits up, turning his back to the light. He breaths a sigh of regret as he shakes his head. "First day on the job and I nod off...pitiful." As he shakes off his lethargy he hears the group's guarantees being pitched to the ware-rat should he not cooperate. He feels a smile shape his lips.

When he opens his eyes his peripheral vision is a bright blurred light. He squints his eyes in reaction. As his sight adjusts, his discarded pack comes into focus in a space on the floor. He picks it up and starts to lay out his things. "My abilities may not be needed at the moment, but I should not be idle." He thinks to himself. Lornak then starts laying out his belongings. He places his weapons on the iron staircase. All except his knife. If he sleeps again it will stay with him because old habits die hard. He hangs the scholar's outfit and cold weather gear into the wardrobe. He unpacks his Artisan tools and scribe paraphernalia onto the writing desk, keen to use them later if time allows.

As Lornak moves around the room, he listens to the interrogation. He takes a look at the books on the bookshelf to see if the rooms former occupants had any taste. (Perception d20=22)

Talanthrel pauses in shaving the silver to give the glass a swirl trying to see what the mixture of silver to water is. Deciding it is not enough he looks up at Anner and gives another bloodthirsty grin. And then continues to add more silver to glass. (Intimidate 9+4= 13 plus props)

Lornak settles into his new quarters, making a mental note to invest in some drapes later.

Hmerrin stows his gear and wanders off in search of something to eat. He is pondering the lump of meat in the pantry (crab maybe?) when Wilford comes in to take over cooking duties. Wilford is able to inform Hmerrin that the meat is from a giant scorpion the crew killed yesterday.

Meanwhile, the interrogation of the prisoner continues. Dušan casts Detect Thoughts and begins to concentrate. [OOC: Sorry, Erik; I didn't notice that you'd posted while I was posting.] Since Detect Thoughts is an area effect, he may also pick up some stray thoughts from his companions, but I'm going to leave that to role-play. Anner makes his save, so his thoughts are not readable.

From his expression, however, Anner knows he's in a bad spot, and he is quite thoroughly intimidated and ready to tell you all he knows.

"Okay, here it is," he says, his nervous glance darting from Var to Talanthrel and back again. "House of Silver started as a gang, right? Just another street gang. Selene changed that. Selene, she's smart and she knows stuff and she wants. Man, does she want! She said we could be a House, like the big Houses, if we was smart enough and tough enough and mean enough. So she took over the gang, started running it like a House. Lotta the gang was were-creatures, right? Were-rats, mostly, but there's others. Selene is a were-somthin', but I don't know what. So 'cause of that, she says we're the House of Silver. Kind of like a joke, see? 'Cause silver will hurt us. And she's the Boss, and she had under-bosses that run operations for her, and we hired some stuff done, too. I dunno where the rest of the stuff is at, and that's Flower's own truth. We split up after the heist, see? Some of us stayed to take out you guys, and the rest took Selene's cut to her. I know where Selene was, but by now they know I was captured, so they'll be long gone."

To cut down on the inevitiable back-and-forth, that is truly all Anner knows, because that's all the DM has worked out at this point. :) If you think there's some glaring piece of information that Anner would have to know that I haven't divulged, point it out; otherwise, this is really all you're getting. Also, he's telling the truth.

So, you guys press him for a bit, but get little else. And now you have to figure out what to do with him.

Alizar popped the last of the cheese into his mouth.
"Thanks Anner, I'm going to let my friends here arrange your ride home. I need to go take a nap."

With that, Alizar stood up, and exited. He walked straight into his bedroom, fell face first onto his bed, and fell fast asleep.

Feeling satisfied that his belongings are placed for easy access, Lornak walks to the landing outside his door. When he begins his climb up the stairs he is greeted by the smell of cooked meat coming from the kitchen. As he descends the second staircase he sees Alizar make a hasty exit out of the interrogation room. "Looks like we got what we need." He thinks to himself.

Lornak casually walks over to where Var is standing outside. Lornak addressees him quietly. "When we are done with him, we should take him out into the wild at dusk. He'll be too busy surviving the things that prowl the darkness then try to track us." Lornak then nods and turns and walks toward the kitchen.

As he approaches he hears someone say giant scorpion. Lornak greets Hmerrin with a smile and says to the room. "Giant Scorpion? You gentlemen have been busy. Taking on a massive and albeit nasty creature one day and then routing a den of thieving shape-shifters the next. Is this work conducive to a man as young as Hmerrin here? He may not last the week"

Lornak attempts to help Wilford prepare the afternoon meal. (Craft d20=11 to aid Wilford)

The scorpion gave off a sweet fish-like smell. "Doesn't smell too bad," Wil said as he searched for dishes. Once he found the dishes he placed them on a counter. "Broiled scorpion in two minutes," he shouted.

"Is that scorpion that I smell?" Toston asks, "Can it wait till after we eat?"

"We can then arrange Anner's passage and sell the excess loot. We should probably contact Boggs about returning the recovered stolen goods quietly and do that too."

"Scorpion?" Hmerrin asks in a startled voice. The lad looks on as Wil and Lornak prepare the critter.

He's still trying to figure out whether or not Lornak insulted him, when his mental gymnastics around 'conducive' is interrupted by the smell of cooked flesh.

"Smells kinda like crawdad," he muses. "And thems good eatin.'"
[pause]
"We ain't gotta worry about poison or nuthin'.... right?"

Hmerrin takes a seat with the rest, and gets ready for grub.

Dušan quits concentrating on Detect Thoughts as he realizes Anner was concealing his thoughts. It doesn't seem to matter much as everyone seems to be speaking their mind anyways.

That's when Dušan smells cooking meat and his stomach lets loose a ferocious growl. "I don't suppose you have room for one more at the table?"

Talanthrel puts on an outrageous pout. "Ahhh... I wanted to make him drink the silver water." he mock whines. "Well... If we are going to eat first; can you knock him out Toston? I would hate to come back from dinner only to find he has gnawed his way loose."
