The Shoals

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 17 (morning) (Co-DM Matt)   d20=8 ; d20=1 ; d20=9 ;
Monday September 4th, 2017 7:56:52 PM

Up ahead of the Herald is a monster of a storm. The winds kick up but Captain Cecil is ready. He has the crew and whoever is willing take down the sails. Perception vs DC 8 Highlight to display spoiler: { As they fall you notice the sails also have holes but these are real holes. It almost looks like this ship has been through a few rough periods. These holes make folding them and putting them away a bit difficult. }

After the sails are down the rain begins to pound the deck.
“Watch the shoals!” The captain shouts. His voice carries, you swear past the deck of the boat and through the storm. He digs four paws of claws into the deck to help his footing. The Captain spins the wheel to the left jerking the boat to the right then the opposite direction. Anyone sick after this is in good company. After a rough fight of a few hours the seas settle down and half the crew are standing at the sides of the boat.

The dark clouds of the storm disappear behind you, and soon reveal small islands jutting from the water. Some have groups of trees while others are just sand and rocks. The Captain calls to drop the anchor. Along the sides of the ship the anchors fall loudly into the water as the elementals holding the ship began to murmur to themselves.
The Captain steps to the side of the ship and speaks to one of the elementals in Aquan.
(OOC: I had something for Aquan speaker but I don’t see any characters with that ability. If I’m wrong let me know and I will add it to the next post. )

The liontaur captain then shouts to his crew to set up the long boats and help the Petals get aboard.

Perception vs DC 9: Highlight to display spoiler: { Outside of the Herald you find the remains of the shipwreck the Captain spoke about. The large boat is split in two. It looks like they cut left, toward the shoals and ran ground at a high speed. The wreckage sat in pieces 20 feet from the rear of the ship. A couple unlucky sailors sat within a longboat feet from the larger ship. They are unmoving and likely dead.}

“Ey, got any sailor about your crew,” the Captain asks. “If not I can give ya one of mine for a couple silver.”

(OOC: Garden Two XP: 300 XP each, +200 xp bonus for obtaining the Rose)

Kiwina (Steve M) (16/16 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:15) | Status: None  d20+7=27 ; d3=3 ; d20+7=26 ;
Monday September 4th, 2017 8:52:08 PM

(Rolls: perception = 27, 26; random light brushing of the tablet = 3)

"At least three of us are sailors," Kiwina tells the captain. "I'd prefer to check on those sailors in the longboat first. Probably dead, but if so they deserve rites. Your crew got anyone to perform them?"

Rolth Niheow (BatMark) (16/16 HP | AC: 14; Touch: 11; Flat: 12; CMD: 17) | Glaive +3 1d10+4 x3 | Paws (2) +1 1d4+1 x2| Status: None  d20+7=23 ; d20+7=15 ;
Monday September 4th, 2017 9:14:59 PM

Rolth aids in taking down the sails, eyeing the holes in them dubiously but working diligently. (Perception +7 = auto-success) He points to the wreckage of the other ship and boat, mouthing a quiet prayer to Domi to protect the Petals as they embark upon their own attempt. To the Captain's question, he answers, "Aye, Cap'n, we have three true sailors among us." If Rolth has noticed one or more among the crew who significantly surpass our abilities (OOC +7 & +5 are our top bonuses), however, he will ask the Petals if they want the additional help. (Perception = 15 to have noticed such skilled sailors)

OOC: How many longboats do we need?

Tsak Rezar (Damien) AC15 (T13/F12) 12/12 HP| Falchion +4 2D4+3|Status: Sea Sick  d20+5=19 ; d20+5=12 ;
Monday September 4th, 2017 9:24:21 PM

(Perception for spoiler 1=19, Perception for spoiler 2=12)
Tsak groans inwardly and outwardly. I used to think I was a sailor, but after that trip I'm not so sure? I've purged most everything in the last couple of hours, but I think I still have enough left in me to handle a long boat.

Sable (Don) (15/15 HP | AC: 15/17; Touch: 11; Flat: 13/15; CMD: 18) | Status: Stern  d20+6=8 ; d20+6=9 ;
Tuesday September 5th, 2017 3:14:32 AM

(Perception 8 & 9).
Sable is no sailor, but is quite strong so makes ready to help with lifting the bodies up from the longboat, as needed.

OOC: Yes, only one set of XP from what you provided just now...

Falco Ambersier (Ryan M) (7/7 HP | AC: 13; Touch: 13; Flat: 11; CMD: 12) | 7/7 Acid Dart | Lt Crossbow +3 1d6 x2 | Status: Mage Armor AC17  d20+2=22 ;
Tuesday September 5th, 2017 9:46:22 AM

In his sickened condition Falco is still not his chipper normal self. He does however look for quite a while at the shipwreck.

"Kiwina, I agree we should check the shipwreck on the way. It would be a long-shot as there appears to be no..." Falco pauses for a large belch "Sorry. As I was saying there appears to be no movement but I would hate to leave someone that could be saved or something useful."

Knowing he is no sailor he remains quiet about the rest.

Lomocia (Koby) (HP:6/6; AC: 12; Touch: 10; Flat: 10; CMD: 10)
Tuesday September 5th, 2017 11:09:35 AM

"I am no sailor, and not so strong either. I'll do my best in helping row the long boats but I can't promise much. I also think that checking out the shipwreck would be smart, but we should hurry. I'd hate to be caught in another one of those storms out in the shoals."

Gothruk Gore (Logan) AC 12 (T11/F10) 12/12HP |Guisarme +3 2D6+4| Status: None  d20+5=24 ; d20+5=7 ;

Perception 1D20+5=24=Pass Perception 1D20+5=7=Fail

Gothruk agrees that checking the shipwreck could be both useful and dangerous. The size of these longboats will be needed if we are going to be able to board them and work out who will be with who.
We should partner good swimmers/rows up with less adapt members. Also taking into account that some of us have been left quite sick from the journey here. Gothruk says to the party.

Finnian (Zeke) (HP:10/11; AC: 16; Touch: 13; Flat: 13; CMD: 17) Status: Hurtin'  d20+4=19 ; d20+4=20 ;
Tuesday September 5th, 2017 4:18:11 PM

[perception=19, 20]

Now that Finnian is at least no longer throwing up he manages to notice the wreck and the men in the boat. "we should definitely check it out. It is possible that we could save them. Even if it is a long shot." Finnian says slowly as if he is worried that something more than words might come out of his mouth. He even volunteers to swim if the need arises. Though this last part is added with less enthusiasm.

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 17 (late morning) (Co-DM Matt)
Tuesday September 5th, 2017 6:24:30 PM

Rolth aids the Captain with taking down the sails during the storm. Later, seeing the wreckage, he mouths a quiet prayer to protect the Petals.

Kiwina and Rolth tell the Captain that three of the Petals are sailors. Kiwina then asks if the ship has anyone to give the proper rites and send off to the dead sailors.

Falco says, "Kiwina, I agree we should check the shipwreck on the way. It would be a long-shot as there appears to be no..." Falco pauses for a large belch "Sorry. As I was saying there appears to be no movement but I would hate to leave someone that could be saved or something useful."

Lomocia and Gorthruk also believe they should visit the wreckage. Gorthruk suggests they partner up with good swimmers.

The Captain frowns and replies to Rolth, “Ay, I can make that happen. As the captain, I know some words to say if none of you are religious types” He says that if you bring back any dead, he’ll have a ceremony here on the Herald.

The Herald’s crew begins to lower a pair of long boats. “Two should do ya,” the Captain says. Since you do not need sailors, he does not send any crew with you..

Tsak volunteers to handle a boat and the Captain assigns him to boat One. He slaps him kindly on the back with a laugh. “So sorry, me ship is a bit rough. Doesn’t get much better, but I will wait here for ya. If you will have me. We have a bit of work to do after that storm.”

The deck of the ship is a bit of a mess as tools and equipment are scattered across it.

Sable is prepared to help with the bodies so the Captain suggests he step into Boat One.

Finnian even offers to swim ... if you fail to navigate the reef safely, perhaps your swimming skill will come into play!

-----

Once the boats are lowered to the water there is a (free) climb to the long boats. Once aboard…

(OOC: Please advise who will ride in what ship -- Boat One or Two. Each longboat needs a Profession (sailor) check vs DC15 to successfully navigate the treacherous reef to the shipwreck. If you fail, speak up if you fail by more than 4.)

Rolth Niheow (BatMark) (16/16 HP | AC: 14; Touch: 11; Flat: 12; CMD: 17) | Glaive +3 1d10+4 x3 | Paws (2) +1 1d4+1 x2| Status: None

Rolth will join Tsak in Boat One, and suggests that Kiwina pilot Boat Two. That way we have one of our most experienced sailors in each boat, with Tsak able to assist Rolth, and Kiwina being our best sailor. That also puts a strong swimmer in each crew. Falco and Lomocia should probably go in separate boats, as our weakest swimmers. Perhaps they have some magicks that might assist us in this endeavor?

(OOC: I will make my roll once everyone else has chosen their boat, so there is no temptation to jump into the other after seeing how I do.)

Kiwina (Steve M) (16/16 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:15) | Status: None

Gothruk will join boat two.

He'll take his spices and rations out of his bag, wouldn't do if they got drenched. He'll leave them in the driest place he can find on the ship. Decides everything else would probably be fine getting wet before climbing down onto the boat.

Tsak removes his armour, leaving it on the Herald and grabs a water skin, in case one of those bodies still has some life left in it.
Climbing down into the boat he finds that, whether it's the fickle seas or a result of his sea sickness, it is much harder to control than he had hoped.

(OOC apologies for late post)

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 17 (noon) (Co-DM Matt)   d20=19 ; d20=15 ;
Wednesday September 6th, 2017 7:10:33 PM

Rolth joins Tsak in Boat One and suggests Kiwina pilot Boat Two. Kiwina agrees to pilot Boat Two and takes off his armor. (OOC: If you remove your armor are you leaving it on the Herald or putting it beside you in the boat? There is very little room left in the long boat.)

Sable joins Rolth and [/b]Tsak[/b] in Boat One. Falco joins and the first long boat is ready to sail. Rolth attempts to get a feel for the boat, and at first has a lot of trouble mastering it. (see below for slight retcon).

Kiwina, Finnian, Gothruk and Lomocia step inside the second boat and it is ready to go.

----

With everyone aboard the long boats you head toward the wreckage. The water from the sea splashes against the wreckage cast up on the reef, and currents push the small long boats into danger of the same fate. The waves are plenty aggressive and it will take some skill to maneuver through to moor the boats to the wreck.

Perception vs DC: 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { You notice the two sailors but recall that both had their feet dangling from the side. As you look you notice that the legs and feet are missing for one of the sailors. }

OOC: Okay, friends, here we go. Please make a Profession Sailor check for each longboat. The sailor in each boat with the highest modifier makes the check. The other three in the longship can make an Aid Another check vs DC10 (even untrained) to help. If you make the check, you moor your longboat to the wreck and can board safely. Note that the sailor who is making the main check can use a hero point to add +8 if you use it before you roll, or +4 retroactively. An aider can use a hero point for a +4 or a +2 retroactively. There is also a reroll option.

An untrained Aid Another check is a Wisdom check.

If you roll an 11 to 14, you fail, and you return to the Herald. If you roll 10 or less, you crash onto the reef and the longboat is destroyed. If that happens, each swimmer must make a swiming check vs DC15 to swim back to the Herald. If you fail, take 1d3 nonlethal (fatigue) and 1d3 lethal (reef cuts) damage (roll your own damage) and try again. Keep on trying until you make the DC15 swim check or fall to less than zero hit points and succumb to the waves. You can also use hero points to help swim checks. Everybody should have a hero point, since no one has used one earlier in the module, I think.

ALSO, now that you know the full scale of the danger and the rolls required, note that one or both boats can choose to return to the Herald and admit defeat without rolling.

Note that your kindly DMs are negating Rolth’s hideous roll and allowing a reroll on the check, unless you go back, because we are just very nice like that.

In Boat One Rolth and Tsak are trained sailors. It is not a class skill for Rolth, and his bonus is +5. For Tsak, it IS a class skill, and his bonus is also +5 (note error on Tsak’s PC sheet). Your kindly DMs will allow a reroll for Rolth’s check, but you have to decide before hand whether Rolth or Tsak is the “captain” of the ship.

In Boat Two, the only trained sailor is Kiwina, with a +7 modifier. He is the “captain” of that boat.

Rolth feels uncomfortable in this strange boat, and cedes the tiller to Tsak. He will of course attempt to assist Captain Tsak in this task. (Profession Sailor = 14, success in aiding Tsak, giving him +2) When a break in the waves comes, he takes the opportunity to look toward the wreckage, where he is uncomfortable with the missing legs and feet of one of the sailors dangling over the side. "Could be sharks!" he notes to his companions, "Either that or the rocks are sharp enough to shear off the bones!"

Rolth cedes the tiller to Tsak and helps where is can. He notices the missing legs and feet, and the author should of explained it better, but the body of the one sailor sits within the middle of the boat. Tsak is hoping he can prove his worth and grabs the tiller. He expertly guides the boat onto the sand and holds it steady as Rolth and Sable step out.
Sable notices that the legs of one of the sailors is not missing but they are inside the boat. As Sable approaches he notices small movements within the longboat.
Falco decides, after nearly falling, to stay within the boat and turns his attention to the other sailors.
Kiwina (OOC: Did you mean to make your post private, Steve?) pilots the second boat almost at perfectly as Tsak and lands next to Boat One.
Finnian takes off his armor and puts it in the boat.
Gothruk laughs a bit too early as he stumbles a bit.
-----
Boat One reaches the longboat first. The large shipwreck is about 100 yards ahead of you. It is perched on large rocks sticking out of the water. Supplies are dumped in the water as birds of prey circle above it.
The longboat in front of you is parked on the sandbar. The sailor on the right side is clearly dead. The poor man died of head wound. It is bound with a dark colored rag but it doesn’t seem to of helped the bleeding. The sailor is pale and stiff.
The other sailor, a liontaur, lays within the boat. Her legs are curled underneath her large fawn-colored body. Her thin legs had been hanging out of the boat.

Rose Quest Day 17 at 1 PM (Co-DM Cayzle) Shipwreck Shoals
Friday September 8th, 2017 7:25:31 PM

The party has expertly sailed past the reef on which a ship has foundered and against which strong post-storm waves still beat fiercely! Just beyond the reef -- in a boat that maybe set out to escape the wreck? -- on a sandbar you find a survivor, a liontaur.

Lomocia is just glad to be alive! She and Finnian thank their sailing friend for his expertise.

If anyone looking at the victim make a perception check vs DC12, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {}You note that the gear and leather armor the liontaur wears is more typical of an “adventurer” than a sailor.

Kiwina looks the semi-conscious female liontaur over with a medic’s eye. Rolth and Finnian help with the diagnosis. The centaur deduces that the lone survivor is badly broken -- at least, a fore leg and a rear leg are. These broken bones will not magically heal just with cure spells. They will need that and some time to rest after being set. The rear leg is badly damaged. Evidently in her effort to stabilize her friend (a failed effort, alas), she did more damage to herself. The bone is exposed in a compound fracture, Kiwina sees.

Kiwina, Rolth, and Finnian work together on the poor soul, combining efforts. Your super nice DM uses Finnian’s roll of 17 as a base, and adds +2 for Kiwina and Rolth helping ... for a total 21. That’s medic enough to get both legs set and splinted. However, she cannot put any weight on it, and she is at best only semi-conscious. These three healers-in-training think that it would now take curing magic to get her conscious and hobbling at a speed of maybe 5.

Tsak looks to the huge wreck on the reef itself. He thinks about boarding it. But that would take a DC20 Sailing profession check, and the broken ship seems very unstable as the waves continue to pound on it.

Rolth looks at the little crabs scuttling around the sandbar, but they pose no threat.

Sable looks closely and feels confident that the liontaur with the broken legs is nobody has has ever met.

Falco wisely stays on watch while the others are busy. He is ready with a magic attack if a foe appears. But the lonely sandbar seems safe enough.

Gothruk stands nearby.

Over in the distance, the small island with palm trees and grasses awaits you. Surely that is the place you are supposed to go. But time is passing. How much of your valuable daylight and your scarece resources will you continue to spend, here on this sandbar? After taking a half hour to tend to the poor woman, it is about 1 pm. You think that you would not want to try to navigate back to the Herald in the dark. But this victim will surely slow you down ...

"We need to get this woman to the ship," Kiwina says. But before he tries to move the liontaur to a boat with help from the others, he looks over the situation. Everyone seems safe enough on the sand bar, for now. Is the trip to the small island easier than the trip through the reef back to the Herald? If so, Kiwina points out that they can use one boat to carry her to the ship without risking everyone, by having most people wait there. He also tries to estimate travel times for a round trip to the Herald, and one way to the island. Once they have considered this, the Petals can decide how to proceed.

Kiwina and Sable suggest moving the liontaur with the broken legs to the bigger island. Luckily, the sandbar and the grassy isle are both within the larger reef. It takes no special skill to row from one to the other. To return to the Herald, anchored beyond the reef, will mean another passage over the rocks, and more danger. (OOC: And more sailing rolls.)

Rolth asks Tsak to spare one of his healing potions but Finnian begins to feed the sailor-adventurer his berries.

The berries seem to help, as the liontaur begins to come around. She is dehydrated and asks for water. She thanks Tsak and drinks from the water skin.

Falco and Lomocia are on the side of moving toward the larger island.

The adventurer begins to sob. She asks about her partner, recalling his horrendous wound. She tells a harrowing story, including the fateful decision to turn toward the island instead of away from it. “With the storm and the reefs all around, it’s easy to make that mistake,” she reasons. “... but if we had a more experienced captain and crew this would have never happened.” She is pretty broken up about the loss of her friend in this boat, as well as the rest of her company in a second boat that must have been totally wrecked.

“Please take care of my friend,” she begs. “I don’t want those little crabs to eat him.”

She looks you all over and evidently comes to a conclusion about you all. “You are rose questers, aren’t you? Just like me and my friends were.” She pulls from her satchel a set of pan pipes.
Pipes of the Sewers

The liontaur adventurer tells you this can help you with your quest. She whistles a simple melody and then says, “Play that tune to summon rats.” She hands it to Finnian.

She then digs in her satchel and finds a second gift.
Elixer of Tumbling

She hands this to Tsak with a smile. “From what I heard of the Garden on this shoal you may want to be a bit quicker at times. This will help. The Garden is near -- just go up the way a bit. Head north past the high water mark and you will see it.”

(Sense motive = 14, fail) At the mention of the Garden he lifts his gaze to look about more carefully, sniffing the air for signs of danger. All he smells above the scent of the see is a familiar perfume, "Now where do I know that from?" he mutters. "Could it be a rose?" He considers where the boat was, and wonders whether she has already been to the Garden and brought one out. Maybe that is what she has in her satchel! Lomocia prepares for the task ahead as Rolth shoos away the crabs from the wemic’s friend. He and Sable wrap the body in a blanket then place it one of the other boats.

Rolth sniffs the air for signs of danger but can only smell the familiar stench of wet fur. That familiar perfume could possibly be a rose, but the wounded wemic is barely semi-conscious and not helpful in her state. After Tsak thanks her for the gifts, she falls completely unconscious upon the sand.

Tsak and Kiwina help drag the boats to the shore and secure them.

Tsak notes that he has left his armor on the Herald but has everything else. He looks for obvious paths or signs but there is just a small climb out of the sand and toward the direction the wemic pointed you. (OOC: You can always head back to the Herald to retrieve your armor. It will take about an hour depending on how well you roll the checks. Unless someone has some armor you can borrow?)

Falco then asks about watching over the wemic, then he and Kiwina go over clues for this part of the quest.
Gothruk offers to stay with the wemic and help her.
----

The liontaur settles into the sand and looks peaceful. The sun warms her wet fur. In front of you is a long beach and to the north (left), a sharp rise then tall grass and the tops of some trees. The rise should not be a problem for the taurs in the group. Any smaller creature may have to climb a bit but it’s not any trouble.

(So there are a couple choices here. What do you do? Head back to the Herald to recover Tsak’s armor? Stand and watch over the wemic or assign someone to watch her? Head over the rise toward the final Garden?)

What if Gothruk is attacked. And surely the group shouldn't face the maze at less than full strength?
Maybe the best course of action is to return to the Herald for the night and come back to the island in the morning? That way we have a full team and the wemic gets the best attention. Do we have a day up our sleeve? he asks the group in general.

His expression turns serious. “Now we’re shipwrecked. Can we get some help from you folks to get back home?”

Rolth is uncertain what to make of these words. (Sense Motive = 13) However, he examines them closely, looking for signs that they recently swam ashore, aside from looking a little raggedy. (Perception = 22) He then sternly interrogates them, "Who else was on your ship? All centaurs, were you? How many perished?" If they mention the liontaur lady, Rolth will try to trick them, "Ah yes, we saw her broken harp, she must have played it beautifully. What other talents did she have?" Kiwina does not believe the centaur. If the group were shipwrecked, knowing that questers would still be coming to the area, they should have made their made themselves evident and their plight obvious. That they were skulking around tells Kiwina that they would have tried stealing the boats.

"What was the name of your vessel?," Kiwina asks, looking for a ready answer. Meanwhile, he drops into formation as Rolth suggested. (Perception = 21 to notice any hesitation answering)

Rolth is uncertain what to make of the centaurs standing in front of him. On further inspection you can tell from the matted fur and patches of sea vegetation that they have been in the water recently.

Kiwina does not believe the group has been shipwrecked and asks further questions.

Tsak and Sable are prepared to fight but wait as Finnian steps back and to the side with his bow drawn.

Falco tries to reason and asks for them to remove their weapons but the leader shouts angrily, “You have drawn your weapons first!”

Gothruk yells out, “Gentletaurs, it wouldn't do to steal from us, we're well armed! Most definitely too much effort. Come into camp, we can set up a camp-fire. Get to know each other a bit better!” (OOC: diplomacy check?)

Falco takes offense and shoots back, "I get it you see a halfling and automatically think a thief who wants to take advantage of you? I am no thief, I am a craftsmen. We are all contestants so drop the pretense and put your weapons down so we can all get on with life."

Rolth defends himself and explains that they have rescued a liontaur. He asks for the group to describe this liontaur but the centaurs seem uninterested.

Finnian adds, "You must be speaking of the female centaur. We tended to her wounds as best we could and left on the beach eating some magical berries that I had." Finnian says, lowering his bow’s aim a hair. "perhaps she still has the rose, and my congratulations for obtaining one."

The centaur chief laughs. “You are trying to trick us. We know the race of our friend. She is not a centaur. She’s a liontaur, named Elarorn, the only liontaur left in our group, now that Jasper got himself killed in the Garden.”

Meanwhile, Tsak works on his Western war face.

The group tries to resolve the growing tension with diplomacy. In fact, these centaurs are already Hostile, and about to attack, so the Diplomacy DC to change their attitude is 25+ChrBonus, or DC27. Starting with Rolth’s 10 and then adding +6 gets you to 16, not enough. But if your DMs are very nice, and they are, start with Falco’s 21 and then add +6 to just barely make it!

“Umm … well, we were going to beat you all to a pulp and take back the Rose you stole,” the lead centaur declares, convinced by your diplomatic approaches, “But OK! I’m willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. Go do your quest, and we’ll figure something out after you return. The garden gate is just over that-a-ways. We can be friends after all.”

The centaur pauses a second and smiles. “Here’s a proof that we are friends. We got ourselves a wizard for the gate. You need to put a drop of fresh wizard’s blood on the gate to make it open. Bet you did not know that! See, now we are all friendly like!” His grin looks only a little more than somewhat forced.

Who'd have thought this lonely stretch of sand would have so many interesting inhabitants." While he waits on the wizard to hopefully make his way over, he inquires of the centaur leader, "So, friend, how did Jasper get killed in the garden? We would like to avoid his fate, and now that we are such fast friends, I'm sure you wouldn't want that now would you? Especially because we'll be taking all the oars with us into the garden, so that they don't get washed away by the tide or something," Rolth finishes with a grin that is not at all forced :)

Elyas has been laying on top of the rise for the last few minutes watching the confrontation. He slipped his bonds much quicker than the centaurs expected, and has been sizing up the group that is talking with his captors.

Elyad slowly stands and walks towards the group, hands raised, trying to look as un-threatening as possible, but preparing to use his hidden bonded dagger if needed.

While Rolth wonders whether the centaur is lying about the wizard’s blood. You find that he is not lying that he drew blood from the wizard to put at the gate. You do, however, sense that he is lying about something.

Rolth calls the wizard over, which causes all kinds of hems and haws from the centaur group. They are now even more unhappy that Elyas has escaped his bonds ands come over.

Elyas, the average-sized brown eyed human walks toward the Petals as the centaur watches him carefully.

The centaur leader is distracted by the presence of the wizard and does not hear the question about Jasper. He does hear Rolth’s statement about the oars and he is very unhappy.
Falco extends a friendly hand to the wizard and says,

"Falco, nice to meet another dabbler in the arcane. Please come join us so we can talk. I can assure you we are better mannered. So what area of magic is of particular interest to you?"

Sable mentions the wemic and something within her bag.

Gothruk challenges the centaurs and asks if they want to die.

Finnian tries to clear up his statement but the centaurs are having none of it.

“You’ll take the oars?! You’ll take the oars!!” the lead centaur bellows in a rage. “You’ll take that back!” he adds, a bit lamely, but his desire to get off a quip is perhaps secondary to his desire to teach you all a lesson for impertinence. ”Come on, boys!” he says.

All five centaurs draw their saps and step forward to attack!

Centaur Boss attacks Rolth, who cleverly came up with the oars idea! He hits AC8 and misses.
Centaur 2 attacks Gothruk and hits AC4, a wild miss.
Centaur 3 swings at Falco and hits AC14, which hits Falco for 3 hp nonlethal damage

(Claw 1 = 17 to hit, 4 hp of lethal damage; Claw 2 = 19 to hit, 6 damage; MISROLL; Glaive = 8 to hit, assuming no damage)

Note that if an enemy leaves his threatened range, he will strike with his glaive in an attack of opportunity (21 to hit, 11 hp damage)

Tsak Rezar (Damien) AC13 (T13/F10) 12/12 HP| Falchion +4 2D4+3|Status: None  d20=6 ;
Wednesday September 20th, 2017 9:29:43 PM

(attack =6)
Tsak swings again, but in the confusion of bodies everywhere, hits no one.

Kiwina (Steve M) (16/16 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:15) | Status: None  d20+2=4 ; d8+3=5 ; d20+2=14 ; d6+2=5 ; d20+2=16 ; d6+2=5 ;
Wednesday September 20th, 2017 10:47:27 PM

Assumption: Since we were falling into marching order, Kiwina is near Rolth. Kiwina's opponent, #4, is down from the color spray. Therefore, Kiwina can -- and does -- attack the centaur boss.

Kiwina attacks with longspear, takes a 5' step, and attacks with two hooves. (4 for the spear clearly misses, but at 14 and 16 the hooves may hit for 5 points each)

Sable (Don) (15/15 HP | AC: 15/17; Touch: 11; Flat: 13/15; CMD: 18) | Status: Stern  d20+5=22 ; 3d6+11=27 ; d20+5=9 ; 3d6+11=25 ;
Wednesday September 20th, 2017 11:18:13 PM

Sable moves on to next closest target, presuming that this is now Centaur 5 (one on Finnian) - Swing with power attack and Greatsword against 22 AC, 27 Damage if he hits.

If Sable did not have to move to engage Centaur 5, he takes a 5’ step back from combat so anyone approaching him would provoke an attack (9 to hit; 25 damage).

Elyas (Ben A.) (12/12 HP | AC: 13; Touch:13; Flat: 10; CMD:14) | Light Crossbow +3( 1D8, 19-20) | Status: Mage Armor AC 17  d20=13 ; d8=8 ;
Thursday September 21st, 2017 1:52:09 AM

Elyas is surprised and impressed at how quickly the centaurs are being taken down by the party. He slowly moves up and takes a shot with his crossbow at centaur 2.

(Ooc: I am not sure how close to the combat I was able to get. If i got within 30 ft of centaur 2, the attack should be +4 to hit, otherwise +3.

So, if I'm in range, it's a hit against AC 17 for 9 damage. Otherwise, it's a hit against 16 for 8 damage)

Falco Ambersier (Ryan M) (4/7 HP | AC: 13; Touch: 13; Flat: 11; CMD: 12) | 7/7 Acid Dart | Lt Crossbow +3 1d6 x2 | Status: Mage Armor AC17  d20+2=6 ; d6+1=4 ;
Thursday September 21st, 2017 7:10:14 AM

"We did give you folks a chance, remember that.

Falco take another step back, looks for a target and launches an Acid Dart at him

{ooc: 5ft step and casts Acid Dart at #5 Hit vs touch: 6 Damage: 4}

"Blast it all."

Gothruk Gore (Logan) AC 12 (T11/F10) 5/12HP (non-lethal) |Guisarme +3 2D6+4| Status: Sickened  d20+2=12 ; d8+4=9 ; d20+2=21 ; d8+4=6 ;

Gothruk again strikes out with a Flurry of blows at centaur 2, first a wild kick, then a solid, if somewhat light punch to the face.

To-hit=12 Non-lethal damage=9
Second attack
To-hit=21 non-lethal damage =6

Finnian (Zeke) (HP:5/11; AC: 16; Touch: 13; Flat: 13; CMD: 17) Status: Hurtin'
Thursday September 21st, 2017 12:00:04 PM

Finnian drops the arrow as he is hit in the head with the sap. His head starts reeling and is only exacerbated by already being sick. He turns and drops his hand to the ground pushing off and sprinting in the other direction. Not again, you use a bow, stay out of their range. Is it really that hard Finn He silently chastises himself as he gets 100 feet away from his attacker.

[OOC Full withdraw... I also edited my HP to reflect that I had healed up fully since your last encounter and then took the 6 damage]

(OOC: The centaur group is dead or unconscious. It's early evening. What would you like to do, next? )
=====

Centaur Boss falls dead
Centaur 2 and 4 are dead
Centaur 3 and Centaur 5 are unconscious

Rolth Niheow (BatMark) (10/16 HP | AC: 14; Touch: 11; Flat: 12; CMD: 17) | Glaive +3 1d10+5 x3 | Paws (2) +1 1d4+1 x2| Status: Fatigued  d20+7=11 ;
Thursday September 21st, 2017 8:54:06 PM

Rolth visibly deflates, the tide of his anger ebbing as quick as it came on. These honor-less scalawags were hardly worthy prey. Even sadder if they actually were Taurnament contestants. With a huff of fatigue, he turns to the grim task of stripping the dead of their weapons and other gear, starting with the boss, while suggesting that the others bind and stabilize the unconscious foes before doing the same. (Perception to notice anything interesting, unusual, or hidden on the bodies = 11)

Kiwina (Steve M) (16/16 HP | AC:14; Touch:11; Flat:12; CMD:15) | Status: None  d20+7=27 ;
Thursday September 21st, 2017 10:33:04 PM

Kiwina helps to secure and stabilize the unconscious centaurs after making sure that the remainder of the Petals are ok. He also sees if it is possible to stabilize any of the "dead" centaurs. (If it is, first aid roll is 27.)

Rolth, Gothruk, Falco, and Finnian are hurt, but if he remembers right, Rolth is the only one who took lethal damage. The others will be okay by morning (?).

He considers whether there is room on the boats for the Petals, the liontaur they aided, and two centaurs. Not that it matters at the moment, when they still have a rose to find.

"I assume we're camping out tonight. Let's make sure the boats are secured for high tide."

Sable (Don) (15/15 HP | AC: 15/17; Touch: 11; Flat: 13/15; CMD: 18) | Status: Stern  d20+8=15 ; d20+3=8 ; d20+8=22 ;
Friday September 22nd, 2017 1:48:30 AM

Sable agrees with Kiwina ”While I suspect we are not making it out tonight, we need to push on to the last Rose. Given that the female Wemic was ‘with’ these guys, maybe we should take a second look at her as well - at this point I don’t trust any of them”l

Search Dead Wemics (Perception 15).

Elyas (Ben A.) (12/12 HP | AC: 13; Touch:13; Flat: 10; CMD:14) | Light Crossbow +3( 1D8, 19-20) | Status: Mage Armor AC 17
Friday September 22nd, 2017 4:33:59 AM

Elyas joins the rest of the group.

"I don't know who you are, but thank you for saving me from these pirates!

My name is Elyas, from Centaur Island. These ruffians kidnapped me and brought me here to help unlock a gate. Apparently someone told them they needed wizard blood.

If you're here on the same quest as them, take their rose and get off this island! But please, take me with you! I can't pay much, but I may be able to pay for passage in some way"

Falco Ambersier (Ryan M) (4/7 HP | AC: 13; Touch: 13; Flat: 11; CMD: 12) | 7/7 Acid Dart | Lt Crossbow +3 1d6 x2 | Status: Mage Armor AC17
Friday September 22nd, 2017 6:55:51 AM

Falco shakes his head at the sensless fight.

{Before Elyas speaks}
"They reaped what they sow but still, what a waste. I guess we should secure the two that are just unconscious, unless someone wants to just kill them. Personally I do not like that idea. A nights rest might be good, Elyas can you cast Detect Magic, I cannot today, it might be good to check their gear."

{After Elyas}
"Take there rose? Interesting. That seems an easy answer but not very sporting. We should discuss that idea. Beyond that of course we will take you with us and you will not pay.

If they kidnapped you were you part of the Taurnament or just here though bad fortune?"

Finnian (Zeke) (HP:5/11; AC: 16; Touch: 13; Flat: 13; CMD: 17) Status: Hurtin'  d20-2=4 ;
Friday September 22nd, 2017 4:01:30 PM

As he valiantly sprints away the sounds of combat fill his ears. When he feels like he is a sace distance Finnian whips around nocking an arrow in on fluid motion. As he comes around to eye his target he realizes that the foes have been defeated and the only people left standing are his allies, and the wizard.

With his cheeks flush with embarrassment he trots back to the group and looks to see if there is anything he can do, trying not to make eye contact woth any of his fellow rose questers.

He almost spills the contents of his stomach when he sees the carnage, particularly the one that Sable felled.

Looking around he sees that two are apparently still breathing and does what he can for them. Which is not much.[heal=4]

Tsak Rezar (Damien) AC13 (T13/F10) 12/12 HP| Falchion +4 2D4+3|Status: None
Friday September 22nd, 2017 6:13:43 PM

Tsak scrounges some rope/cord and makes sure the unconscious taurs are tied securely.
'You are safe wizard, we will return you to civilization. As for the rose I think we'd prefer to get our own, you are welcome to join our effort & share the reward'

(OOC apologies but I can't make the square bracket bold talky things on my mobile)

Gothruk Gore (Logan) AC 12 (T11/F10) 5/12HP (non-lethal) |Guisarme +3 2D6+4| Status: Sickened
Friday September 22nd, 2017 6:25:37 PM

Gothruk establishes which centaurs are unconscious and which are dead before dragging the two living centaur's a little away from the battlefield. Can I borrow some rope from someone to help tie these guys up?

We're not killing them he replies to Falco. Last time I looked I wasn't a cold blooded killer. Or even a killer at all really...

Matthew S. Co-DM - Rose Quest Day 17- (6:00 pm) (Co-DM Matt)
Friday September 22nd, 2017 9:03:51 PM

Rolth deflates and is sad they had to fight with Taurnament contestants.
He starts the grim task of collecting their things.
Sable adds, “While I suspect we are not making it out tonight, we need to push on to the last Rose. Given that the female Wemic was ‘with’ these guys, maybe we should take a second look at her as well - at this point I don’t trust any of them”
(OOC: You will have to pick one.. Search the dead centaur or the female wemic 30 feet down the beach and within the boat.)

Kiwina contemplates stabilizing the dead centaur but they are dead. He finds only Centaur 2 is still alive but, unconscious. He then says, "I assume we're camping out tonight. Let's make sure the boats are secured for high tide."
Falco says, "They reaped what they sow but still, what a waste. I guess we should secure the two that are just unconscious, unless someone wants to just kill them. Personally I do not like that idea. A nights rest might be good, Elyas can you cast Detect Magic, I cannot today, it might be good to check their gear."

Elyas thanks the group, "I don't know who you are, but thank you for saving me from these pirates!

Falco adds, "Take there rose? Interesting. That seems an easy answer but not very sporting. We should discuss that idea. Beyond that of course we will take you with us and you will not pay.

If they kidnapped you were you part of the Taurnament or just here though bad fortune?"

Finnian heads back to the group and tries to help the downed centaur or the Petals?
Gothruk asks to borrow some rope to tie up the remaining centaur, who begins to stir.
He responses to Falco advising he is not a killer.
---
A scream breaks up any sort of thought as the female wemic stands staring. She is shaken as she takes in what just happened. Lomocia comforts her as much as possible.

You find sap (5), dagger (1), bullets (2), MW studded leather armor (centaur) (250), rope (2), and coins (25)
You also gain 400 xp each for the fight and the scene.
