Bosk watches as the others try out their gear and tries activating his bling ring once again.
(My flight was delayed coming back from Will's wedding. Catching up on what happened while I was out fo town.)

Tink points out their spells have unpredictable results. (OOC: Unless you move through the cloud you aren’t affected)

Restlin notes that conjuration magic doesn’t work as expected and that the spell cast when he tried he summoned was more potent than expected. He wonders if all conjuration magic is like that but decides the wiser course is not to experiment.

Garrett shakes of the effects of the pretty lights and then adopts a defensive stance as Tink approaches the wall.

Bosk attempts to activate his blink ring only to find himself the target of a 15 foot radius silent spell (DC 15 will save to negate)

Tink:Highlight to display spoiler: {You are happy you are flying 5 feet off the ground as it looks like the breach itself and the rubble on the other side would be considered difficult terrain. You notice that on the other side of the breach there is a pristine ruin. The destruction is there as if it happened an hour ago, but all the blood, bodies, and uncouth debris has been removed. The buildings are alabaster white with spires and other fantastic architecture, mixed with glorious nature. }

Garret continues to hover and replies to Sesha, "I think any fight we can avoid in here will be good. I'm not normally one to avoid a fight, but I think that should be our first option anywhere we go."

Restlin notes Bosk's ring failed as well. "Woah...that's not conjuration magic. That's transmutation. Are all my spells going to have random effects? That could be real bad."

He has a minor internal crisis, then decides to leave this one up to Wardd. Maybe he'll get lucky and this will work out for the best. He lifts off the ground to make sure his overland flight spell still works.

Sesha points out that things could bad or good, but Mhalice did find her way through the Mythal and they should expect some fighty minions.

Zane spreads his wings as it were and tries to remain even with the rest of the party about 15 feet above the ground.

Garrett also hovers and expresses a preference for avoiding fights.

Restlin takes note of the Blink fail and then has a minor internal conflict as he worries all his spells might not work. He decides to put his trust in Warrd before using his overland flight spell to also lift off the ground.

Tink telepathically tells the others to watch their steps as she adopts a vanguard position ahead of the group.

The party makes its way through the ruins. Waterfalls, fountains, and even elvish music are seen and heard in the odd city you find yourselves in. The thoroughfares are wide open with pavement in the center, and a narrow accompanying garden area on either side with separate paths meandering through them. The narrow “street gardens” allow folks to walk on a path to each building and between buildings both for convenience and for those who want to take the more beautiful scenic route.

The further you get into the city the more you realize your first impression was an illusion of what was. The roads are actually fairly torn up and the buildings are either haphazardly thrown together or are little more than rubble mounds. Smoke and screams occasionally rise from somewhere in the city, what could that mean?

Tink notices Mhalice's tower off in the distance but before she can say anything her attention is drawn to a skirmish to the right of the party.

A iron-skinned bull breathing green fog (Know Arcana DC 16 : Highlight to display spoiler: { Gorgon } ) and a large black dog in a chain shirt and breathing fire (Know Planes DC 17: Highlight to display spoiler: { Nyessian Hellhound } are in a running fight.) The gorgon turns and is killed by the hellhound and a “golden strand” appears tracing off into the city. The hellhound eyes the golden strand and begins to lope after it, only to have very loud stomping sounds heard and shaking the ground a bit. Suddenly the speed of the stomps increases showing a great speed and the hellhound shakes its head and runs.

Restlin remembers hearing that combat just brings more combat in this place. He crosses his fingers and casts a normal invisibility spell on himself, hoping to remain unnoticed.

Bosk curses under his breath when his ring fails and he finds his recent purchases worthless. Fortunately Gargul watches over him as he pushes back and negates the silent spell (auto pass).

Upon hearing Zane recommending cover Bosk hides in the shadows and slips from sight. (Stealth =34, Nat 20)

Sesha watches the conflict and looks up at the Mythal. For some reason, she kind of hoped the fight had lasted longer.

"Shame, I'd like to observe it's entire color wheel and effects now, before Mhalice."

She considers casting a spell to help hide, but realizes that she doesn't know just how tough it is to cast. Instead, she moves near a pile of rubble to hide, oblivious of the noisy crunch of rock and her broom jutting up above her hiding spot.

Zane dives from the sky to try to take cover

Restlin remembers hearing that conflict breeds conflict & tries to cast an invisibility spell and the spell functions as normal.

Bosk curses as his ring does not work as intended and then takes cover as well.

Garret finds a hidey hole for his halfling self fairly close to where he last saw Restlin

Sesha had hoped the fight would last longer so she could get a better chance to study the Mythal but alas. She tries to clumsily hide herself but dislodges some loose stones amid the rubble.

Sesha may yet get her wish, Rounding the corner is a huge furry humanoid with extra large feet. (Know: Dungeon DC 19 Highlight to display spoiler: { “Stomper”}) It stops with a stomp and kicks the fleeing hellhound, which howls and two more hellhounds arrive! The Mythal turns red and begins to swirl with splotches of both red and blue.

It seems like the combatants have not yet observed you, do you continue to observe?

The Horned Cleric is all in favor of staying put and out of sight, both curious how the Mythal will react and not wanting to engage in combat if not absolutely necessary. For the moment he decides the best way to communicate this to the group is to remain hidden, unmoving and out of sight..but should the others charge into battle he will not allow them to have all the glory while he stays behind.

"Stay down. I want to see if the Mythal affects both of them, or the aggressor only, which in this case is our bigger friend. Also, anyone know how we could test the timing? What if one group is fighting when the Mythal loses it and the other is peaceful? If we learned the timing, we could take advantage of that."

Sesha readjusts her broom and then informs the others about how she wants to observe the Mythal.

Zane continues to hunker down.

A grinding sound is now heard and the road under the intersection heats up and melts. The creature that arrived last round spins and begins high tailing it away from the intersection. The hellhounds also ignore the golden trail as they flee the scene!

A colossal two-headed Linnorm bursts through the ground and, looking like it is king of the city, roars, then begins looking in all directions. It does not appear to see the party and is content that all his foes have fled. it trumpets and then follows after the golden trail.

After a moment where there are no beasts for once 10 creatures that look like large albino greyhounds with noses that resemble a star mole and possess glowing eyes show up behind you. They begin to growl. (Know Arcana DC 17: Highlight to display spoiler: {Sniffers})

Looks like those 10 newcomers might mean business.

"There's always something bigger (Int: 19). I bet that includes us as well. This could get dangerous." That's when he notices the sniffers (Know, Arcana: autopass).

OOC: What the heck are sniffers? I can't find anything on them. I'm going out on a limb here and figuring they have the scent ability and roleplaying accordingly.

He looks down at his invisible self, realizing that does nothing to stop these things from smelling them. "Hey, all the hiding in the world won't keep us hidden from these things. We should get out of here. Once we start fighting, we probably won't be able to stop."

Zane just watches as the fight ends, but when these new "sniffers" arrive....
"I can't tell from here, do those sniffers use those red eyes or are they blind. If they're blind maybe we should fly. I'm strong enough I can carry couple of the smaller of our group. That would confound them even if they can scent track us." Zane kicks in over the link.
He gets ready to lift whomever and if needed to cast fly on his other large friend, and take to the air.

That there's always something bigger doesn't really come as a surprise to Tink. As a halfling, most of the Wold was already bigger than her!

She tries to gauge whether the sniffers have picked up her scent, or are poking their heads in her direction. The "Pass Without Trace" spell on her should prevent any smell, but you never know.

Garret tries to figure out if the newcomers have spotted them.

Restlin realizes that there is always something bigger in this place, noticing the sniffers and realizes there is nothing to prevent the creatures from smelling them.

Zane suggests trying to fly to get away.

Tink doesn't find it surprising that there is always something bigger being a halfling.

One of the Sniffers let out a howl and rushes the party honing in at Zane seemingly going in for his cloak. The sniffer touches the cloak with its nose and Zane can feel his resistances weakening as the creature's nose touches the cloak inhaling deeply. The creature starts glowing as it follows up with a bite that easily misses the dragon disciple.

Over the link, Restlin fills his friends in on what these things do. "They suck the magic out of stuff, and magic only works on them like...half the time. We should get off the ground and flee."

Restlin takes his own advice, shooting straight up until he's safely out of range from their attacks.

Bosk wonders if an anti-magic field on the creatures would prevent them from smelling the group's magical items. He calls to Garret and Sesha over the link and tells them to climb on his back if they need a ride The cleric waits long enough to make sure Restlin doesn't experience any negative effects from flying and then casts fly on himself and follows close behind...quickly realizing he cannot keep up with Restlin's flying skill, but for now he is holding his own.

Fly = 22 (I forgot to add +5 for my CL level)

Zane sees the critter charging at him, froze momentarily. The critter's funny looking nose touched his cloak and he felt the magic being stripped away and sucked out of it. Sweat beaded and run out from under his hood as Zane drew on his draconic heritage and enforced his will to make the magic remain just where it was, woven into it's fabric. (used a hero point to reroll)
As soon as Zane finished making sure the magic remained, he spread his wings and took off, grabbing anyone else who had yet to leave the ground, gaining a height of 30'.

Garret moves with the others, quickly flying up. He attempts to fly high enough to be out of the reach of jumping dog-like things, but would like to remain below tops of buildings. He agrees with the others, "This is not a fight we need, let us move on quickly!"

Bosk telepathically commuicates to the others, Do you think they will follow us? Should we fight them or try fleeing?

Restlin takes to the air to try to evade the Sniffers warning his friends of the creatures capability.

Tink uses her flying ability to follow Restlin's lead.

Bosk wonders if an anti-magic field would prevent the sniffers from sensing their magic items. He tries to get the others to get on his back and then attempts to cast Fly however the Mythal reacts and instead of a fly spell Bosk finds himself the target of a 15 foot radius of silence (DC 15 will save to resist or else in zone of silence for 4 rounds)

Zane sees the creature running at him and uses a heroic effort to prevent his cloak from losing its magic before taking to the air.

Sesha casts magic broom and the Mythal lets the spell function as normal.

Garret flies upward with anyone else.

Beri cannot take to the air with Bosk as the Mythal has prevented the fly spell.

The pack of sniffers move forward and soon Beri and Bosk the only ground based combatants are surrounded by sniffers.

Sniffer 1 touches Bosk's shield(DC 23 will save or lose magic in shield) with its nose before following up with a bite that is turned by the taur's armor.
Sniffer 2 also tries to touch one of Bosk's items targeting Bosk's Ishgaran head band (DC 23 will save or lose magic) before following up with a bite that is also beaten by armor.
Sniffer 3 follows suit like the other 2 before it with its nose touching Bosk's Eberyon's tear (DC 23 Will save or lose magic)
Sniffer 4 targets Bosk's amulet of natural armor (DC 23 Will save or lose magic) before following up with another failed bite.

Sniffer 10 tries to sniff Beri's Vestments but the nose misses as does the followup bites.

As his spell backfires Bosk bares his teeth and raises his hackles. It appears the gods want you dead...you all have no manner of luck at all. As he say this he pushes back the silence spell and resists the sniffer's magical attacks.

A the sniffers approach Bosk hits them each in turn, taking advantage of his reach and making attacks of opportunity (although if it appears magic weapons are having an undesired effect he will switch from his sword to his non magical armor spikes after the first attack. (I am trusting the DM to interpret this as a player would. Also, please let me know if AoO 4 prevented an attack and saved my Iron Will re-roll)

Tink tries to determine if she can find any correlation between the mythal and the spells. She tries to note any specific sound she can hear, or color of the mythal when Bosk's fly spell failed.

She isn't readt to try and cast a spell just yet.

Instead, she looks (and listens) to see if they may have attracted the attention of something else.

Bosk will allow himself to be flown to safety and ponders why only his spell failed. Is it random? Could re trying his blink ring have a different outcome in the future?

If for some reason he cannot be he will fight to defend himself and his stuff starting with the lead dog (if there is one and continuug until it is dead and moving to the next one).

None of Bosk's attacks of opportunity strike true against the sniffers and he prevents all his items from losing their magic.

Garrett keeps his eyes open for any incoming attackers but things are still clear currently.

Restlin shouts down out to the group and Beri about lifting Bosk & turning into elementals.

Tink doesn't notice that their is anything coming but the Mythal did flash gold when the spell backfired.

Zane calls for a rope saying he'll change form if it is needed.

Beri transformed into a huge air elemental (OOC: sorry about that I kind of negated that when Bosk's fly failed b/c you said when you got out of reach & you never got out of reach) and tries to lift Bosk away (I'm going to rule that Beri can indeed lift Bosk) The sniffers surrounding the taur get AOOs as the elemental lifts the taurs. One of the bites hits for 16 damage.

Bosk messages the others. I have a 10 ft reach with most of my weapons and a 20 ft reach with my Guisarme. If Beri can time some drops and raises with my attacks or I pull out the long blade, then I can attack them without getting hit. Shall we try?

Tink Tells the others they can't be followed by the Sniffers because it will alert others and that maybe they should follow the thread to find a distraction for their pursuers.

Garret concurs and suggests they keep moving to find something that isn't flying.

Restlin also agrees and asks how long they can keep airborne for

Zane on his Dragon wings sends over the link that he is constrained by his stamina and the weight he has to carry so they need to find something else for the Sniffers to Sniff on.

Beri wonders if Bosk can strike w/ his long reach from the safety of the air.

Bosk outlines a strategy using either the 10 foot reach or 20 foot reach of his weapons in conjunction with Beri's maneuvering waiting for an agreement.

The Sniffers cannot do anything this round except get below you and howl, but all that racket did actually manage to draw something else from the Mystal.

Two Storm Giants Burst onto the Scene. They notice that you are airborne and 1 fires a barrage of 3 arrows at Bosk but all miss while the other uses a spell like ability (SpellCraft 26 : Highlight to display spoiler: {chain lightning}) and a bolt of lightning slams into Garrett for (38 electricity damage DC 18 half damage) and spreads out to any person who is not invisible.

Some of the Sniffers start to run away while others decide to attack the giants and a few decide to still yap at you. The 2 that attacked the giant fail to land a blow with their jaws.

Garret spots the massive giants as they are approaching. He reaches up a hand to point them out to the others just as one of them launches a massive lightning bolt. He quickly dodges out of the way as it crackles past him. He looks around for buildings and says, "We need to get out of sight quickly!"

If there are buildings he can put between him and the giants (and remain flying), he will move around behind them, hoping the sniffers and the giants decide to fight it out.

I didn't notice giants sneaking up on us? I must be losing my touch.

Beri makes sure he has a good grip on Bosk and takes flight with the others, doing his best to stay out of reach of the projectiles, or at the very least to be a hard target. Hopefully the giants will and the sniffers will decide that each other are better targets... or at least easier to reach targets.

Garret spots the giants, dodges the lightning & then says to find cover potentially in the buildings

Sesha is also unharmed but is annoyed and agrees they need to keep moving.

Zane also agrees about finding a hidey hole after the lightning misses him.

Beri makes sure he has a good grip on Bosk and takes flight with the others (OOC: The Giants came out of the Mystal itself)

Bosk takes a total defensive action and Bides his time.

The party manages to find a ramshakle structure they could hide behind

The howls start up again and the Sniffers round the corner on your heels, but still can't seem to reach you given your height.

The two storm giants follow and they fire 2 more arrows. 1 is aimed at Zane and the other at Sesha but both missiles fly wide of their intended target. The arrow aimed at Zane is deflected by the presence of Restlin but the wizard's invisibility protects the mage from being hit by the arrow.

The Mythal flashes as it looks like one of the Sniffers may have actually found some magic item in the ruins and attempted to drain it. Instead of draining the magic the Sniffer now has an awkward ginormous 3rd leg that does not match it's body and it flails around.

Hmm, I wonder if those golden threads are missing me because I don't have any magic items out in this form, or if I just can't see them from this angle.

...Good, everyone seems to be moving. If the Mythal is sent a couple of giants after us it would probably send reinforcements if we stayed and fought.

Oooh, smart move Restlin! Hmm, I wonder if creating an illusion to make that thread appear ten times thicker would result in everyone fighting over that item, or just lure more enemies.

Garrett asks if they should flee to another large building or stay in fight.

Tink suggests that heading due West in order to try to encourage the Sniffers and Giants to fight each other.

Restlin notices the golden threads and throws his wand of minor image between the giants and the sniffers.

Bosk wonders why Restlin is throwing his wand away and is of the opinion the Mystal is a trick for why would Mhalice go somewhere where magic is a liability.

Beri wonders about the gold threads as he is in an alternate form then notices he was just looking at it from the wrong angle as a thick gold thread is trailing from him. He also wonders if an illusion of a thread could be used to make creatures follow it before he holds onto Bosk and keeps flying.

Sesha agrees with Bosk's assessment of Mhalice and suggests she either is unaffected or in control.

Zane also notices the threads and says to continue to put cover between the party and the monsters. Zane also notices that threads are flowing towards him as well (OOC: everyone who notices the threads they have them; but I was using Bosk as a specific example as I didn't have time to go through everyone's sheet)

The party flies away from the conflict and Restlin's gambit seems to have worked as the Sniffers and the Giants are now fighting each other. It also seems like you did it at just the right time too as a colossal flying twin headed snake-like dragon(Know[Arcana]:35 Highlight to display spoiler: {Tarn Linnorm}) comes out of the Mythal and unloads a cone of acid on the giants and the sniffers.

As the party heads west from their vantage point they see half burnt and gnarled trees, ruined mansions, broken statues and fountains and other public works. The smaller vegetation, however, looks as though it has been lovingly tended; shrubs in exotic shapes, grass perfectly manicured, deadfall and detrius meticulously cleaned. It is as if the city has been perfectly preserved at a single moment of time… And all about is the light gray Mythal, nearly transparent, as if mocking all who are trapped within the ruined city.

After 2 minutes and 24 seconds of flying away as far as you can you have gone nearly a mile when all the flying has gotten to Zane and he needs a rest. It seems like you have successfully escaped the Sniffers, Giants and Linorms. What now?

She takes a moment to look around at the vegetation.

"We can't avoid combat forever. I'm thinking we need to head straight for that tower before our luck runs out. Anyone have any ideas?"

Tink will try a few experiments with the threads. Do they fade over time? Does the length vary? If she spins on the spot will the thread wrap around her? If she hides or turns invisible, can the trail still be seen?

Beri sets Bosk down gently, then remains hovering a little ways above him. In his whispy elemental he provides his thoughts to the group
We were told that the Mythal has protections to trap those that are greedy inside. Things kept coming as long as were were near where people were fighting, assuredly over magic items. I don't think we can kill things fast enough to last long against the mythal's reinforcements. We should avoid any further fights or any treasure randomly on the ground and just keep running, at the very least hopefully the mythal will recognize we aren't greedy and leave us alone should we be attacked.

As it looks like the group has a moment to catch their breath Bosk scans the area for trouble and anything out of the ordinary. He also puts his mind to the task of figuring out what ever he can about the gold threads trailing him and his armor.

Tink reflects on the eclectic creatures, vegetation. She points out they can't avoid combat forever and experiments with the threads. The threads don't seem to fade over time and trail off into the Mystal. If she spins around the threads follow her. The Mythal allows her to turn invisible no problem but the threads still follow her.

Restlin thinks they should move toward the tower and looks for a path accessible by foot.

Garret watches Tink experiment before agreeing they need to be on their way.

Zane figures he was tired because he was fly running to keep up with his party members who could move faster through magic. (OOC: Running can go for con rounds = 20 before you have to start making con checks each round. I rolled the checks to save time)
He then points out the Mythal is linked to the strength of the magic & he is trying to figure out how but they should keep moving to the tower.

Beri sets Bosk down before laying out his observations on the Mythal. From what the druid can tell the Mythal seems to be indifferent to your presence but is ready to act if certain conditions are met. You get the sense that the Mythal is being compelled to act this way and your intentions wouldn't make a difference on it affecting you.

Bosk takes some time to catch his breath and looks to see if anything odd. He also studies the threads and notices that they are ending in the items the group is carrying. Bosk also notices that the girth of the thread seems to correspond to the worth of the item. The items with the thickest girth seem to be worth the most gold.

Restlin finds a path and you continue on your way to the tower.

After about a thousand feet of moving their way through the streets, the party rounds a corner of two nearly intact buildings to come to what was once a city square.

This square has the ruins of a tower in the center and the fractured stump of an ancient tree. While there used to be several ways in and out of the square, most of the egresses have been sealed with rubble. On one side of the tower is a large fire and two carcasses of humanoids are roasting. In a corner is a pit covered by an iron grill and sitting around grinning are a group of Ettins. “Sure wuz nice ter get them humans Bert.” “Ayup, dem gnomes had too much fat on em, Deen.” “An’ elves iz too stringalee, Clem.” “Hurr, Hurr, Hurr. Da black one sure pay nice, eh?” says one as it pokes a massive stick into the pit, and an angry voice responds. “Shut your pie hole, you filthy abominations! Kill any more of us and our ghosts will haunt you for the rest of your lives!” The ettins all think this is extremely funny.

Then an ettin looks up, sniffing. “GOLD!”, he greedily shouts, and all the Ettins turn their faces towards the heroes!

Garret shakes his head and takes to the air again. He says, "I don't know how much longer we're going to be able to avoid things, but let's try once again!"

Restlin pinches the bridge of his nose. "These ones seem to have hostages. We can't just run away and let them get eaten."

Without waiting for discussion, he unloads a (hopefully) maximized fireball right in the middle of ettins 2,3,4, and 5. He then attempts to get some height.

Beri also pays close attention for any odd tactics the insetting may employ that wold indicate an attempt to avoid the wrath of the Mythal.

As the group stumbles upon the strange scene Bosk takes in his surroundings, noting the enemies size (are they large sized), approximate reach, arms and armor, and roles (who is the leader, do any look like magic users, etc.). He also takes in the environment (I assume the captives are under the grate, the blue half circle if a ruined tower, the brown circle is a stump and the yellow if fire, is that correct?)

For an instant he is about to reach into his bag of holding of holding to retrieve a ladder, but suddenly remembers that he cannot access it in this land and decides it is for the better that the the likely unarmed and unarmored people stay out of combat until it is over.

His next instinct is to appeal to their apparent love of gold, but a sudden maximized fire ball makes that option unlikely...still he tries. You like gold? We will fight to help those you have captive, or you can let them go free and we will pay you in gold accordingly.

Garrett shakes his head while taking to the air hoping to avoid another fight.

Restlin points out that these monsters have hostages and attempts to drop a maximized fireball in the mist of the Ettin's but instead of a maximized fireball positive energy rains down on them in the form of a mass cure moderate wounds spell healing all ettin's for 17 damage had they been wounded but they are not.

Beri questions if there is someway to avoid the Mythal and hopes the others relay the message to the hostages before casting reverse gravity on the Ettin's. Not only does the spell work but the Mythal takes a sympathetic turn for the heroes as a cold wind suffuses the spell dealing each Ettin 6 damage. 9 of 10 Ettin's are caught in the spell. The Ettin with the Stick managed to wedge the stick into the grate to prevent from joining its Brethren.

Zane circles around in an attempt to rescue the people asking over the link if the people are evil.

Tink casts black tentacles and once again the Mythal takes a positive turn for our heroes making the tentacles slightly more grapply. However even with their enhanced grapply-ness the tentacles cannot gain purchase on 8-10 and they float away from them. (add + 2 to the CMB rolls of the tentacles)

Bosk studies the scene to get more information about their combatants. (OOC: semi-circle is ruined tower, circle is stump, yellow is fire & yes the captives are under the grate) The taur notices that the Ettin with the stick seems to be their leader and that they appear to have a 10 foot reach. He also notices that they are armed with flails and javelins and crude leather armor. The potion works as expected.

Garret notices some movement under the grate.

Sesha realizes that deep slumber could put a single Ettin to sleep

The Ettin's are floating away except for number 1 who is holding onto his wedged stick, he says, "This NO Fun." and launches a javelin at Zane but it is way off target.

The rest of the Ettin's unload with an unsteady barrage of javelins. Restlin is struck once for 16 damage, Tink is struck twice for 27 damage.

Tink shakes her head in disbelief. Even with the help of the mythal her black tentacles were just not up to scratch today. She decides it must have something to do with this city, and isn't a reflection on her abilities in any way.

She looked to be a fairly easy target for those javelins, so decides to try reactivating her ring of invisibility. If it works as it should, she will fly after Zane to try and assist him in freeing whoever is trapped. Or at least trying to discern WHO is trapped.

Zane dodges the projectile easily, he moves in to cage, and takes a closer look at the prisoners inside.
He uses his reach to stay away from the ettin. When he gets there he'll use his strength to open it unless theres a obvious way within his reach.

Bosk looks up to determine how high up the enemies are, and how far away they will be next round.

Bosk waits until ettins are high enough in the air to not be able to hit Bosk with melee weapons and then charges forth attempts to slice the reaming ettin's stick in half. He will then drop prone to avoid any incoming ranged attacks.

Zane circles around continuing moving toward the grate attempting to open it.

Tink seeing herself being the target of javelin fire attempts to activate her ring of invisibility but instead of turning invisible she finds herself encircled by jeweled butterflies that proceed to explode dealing 30 sonic damage to Tink and Sesha (reflex save DC 19 for half)

Garrett dive bombs the ettin standing by the grate and succeeds in staggering the beast.

Restlin follows Zane in attempting to help the people trapped under the grate.

Sesha moves with Restlin towards the grate.

Berri turns into a whirlwind following the others towards the grate.

Bosk attempts to break the stick of the remaining ettin as the other ettins are 60 feet off the ground. He successfully breaks the stick as Beri sucks up the staggered ettin into the vortex.

The Ettins do not have any further javelins to throw so they just keep floating away aside from the staggered one stuck in the whirlwind but he is otherwise preoccupied.

Under the grate are a pair of human men in ratty clothing and they don't need to be told twice. They climb out bow and say, "Thank you brave heroes for rescuing us. Too bad Rand and Len weren't saved. Do you have a way out of here? We need to get out of this heck-hole."

Still rubbing the ringing out of her ears. Sesha looks at Tink and shrugs.

"This probably won't be the worst I suffer today. Maybe those in our group who are magically inclined should consider keeping a healthy distance between ourselves and others?"

She ponders that for a moment, before she feels Pot-pot buzzing in her brain. She focuses on the pair of survivors.

"In this place, being on the menu isn't the same thing as being innocent. You've told us your dead allies names, but what about yours? Why are you here? You don't just accidentally stray into this place? Are you here to plunder the relics of my ancient ancestors? Maybe you live here, somehow? Whatever the answer is, I'd like to know it. We might need your help, and we don't want to offer a reward that doesn't interest you."

She nods at Restlin.

"Of course, you could just stay quiet. Like the Mage-priest said, the way out is that way, but so are the monsters."

She lets her voice trail off a bit and grabs a heavy gold coin from her purse. She rubs it on her lips, kisses it, and winks at the closest one.

"Oh, right. Lets talk while we walk? There's another drow here. A pretty one, too. I'm looking for her. We all are actually. Got any idea where she might be?

Restlin explains there is a job for the heroes to do and gets the impression that the grate prisoners are ok people and he points them to the Satyrs.

Garrett hovers near Restlin.

Tink keeps an eye out for other threats apologizing to [n]Sesha[/b] for the damage.

Beri encourages the others to pick up the javelins.

Bosk wanders over to the grate inspecting the freed prisoners, the area and the grate. He picks up one of the javelins on the way.

Sesha runs her ears and just shrugs at Tink. She questions the freed prisoners and offers them a coin in return for answers on Mhalice.

"I'm Lee and this is Lusi. We accidentally found our way here when we stepped through a tapestry in a library and have been trying to get back since. As for the drowess you speak of I think she is in that tower over yonder" The people say, "Say where is that other Ettin who took our gear?" they ask.

No sooner is the question asked then another Ettin bursts onto the scene from behind the rubble and attacks Bosk with a flail but misses. This Ettin has a sack tied to its belt with several threads leading into it.

Restlin goes total defense while urging Lee and Lusi to run opting not to use spells.

Tink tries to find some cover by the wall.

Zane flurries at the Ettin and his second blow lands.

Garret critically hits the Ettin and the creature is staggered by the blow.

Whirlwind Beri flies with his prisoner trying to get someone to help him lock the Ettin in the grate.

Bosk attacks the Ettin as it burst on the scene with his sword and then with the sword and armor spike.

Lusi and Lee take off into the myst in the direction of the Satyrs.

Looks like the Ettin wasn't the only incoming monsters. 8 sniffers have now joined the battle.

4 of the sniffers converge on the downed Ettin tearing into the sack at its side. The other 4 sniffers go for Garret, Bosk, Restlin and whirlwind Beri but none of their jaws find purchase against our heroes.

Not pleased, Sesha is stuck. Running seems the best option, but then everything catches up to them later. Fighting only brings bigger problems. What to do?

Still flying, she draws a pair of weights around and string and lets fly a tanglefoot bag into the mass of Sniffers fighting Restlin.

Hit Touch AC 15

A tanglefoot bag is a small sack filled with tar, resin, and other sticky substances. When you throw a tanglefoot bag at a creature (as a ranged touch attack with a range increment of 10 feet), the bag comes apart and goo bursts out, entangling the target and then becoming tough and resilient upon exposure to air. An entangled creature takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity and must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be glued to the floor, unable to move. Even on a successful save, it can move only at half speed. Huge or larger creatures are unaffected by a tanglefoot bag. A flying creature is not stuck to the floor, but it must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be unable to fly (assuming it uses its wings to fly) and fall to the ground. A tanglefoot bag does not function underwater.

A creature that is glued to the floor (or unable to fly) can break free by making a DC 17 Strength check or by dealing 15 points of damage to the goo with a slashing weapon. A creature trying to scrape goo off itself, or another creature assisting, does not need to make an attack roll; hitting the goo is automatic, after which the creature that hit makes a damage roll to see how much of the goo was scraped off. Once free, the creature can move (including flying) at half speed. If the entangled creature attempts to cast a spell, it must make a concentration check with a DC of 15 + the spell's level or be unable to cast the spell. The goo becomes brittle and fragile after 2d4 rounds, cracking apart and losing its effectiveness. An application of universal solvent to a stuck creature dissolves the alchemical goo immediately. Crafting this item is a DC 25 Craft (alchemy) check.

Restlin carefully backs away from the sniffers, avoiding giving them any opening as he does so.

He looks around, but finds the two men they rescued are gone. He silently wishes them luck, somewhat glad these sniffers are on the party's tails now, not theirs.

Once outside their range, he takes to the skies towards their destination, hoping his party comes along.

I... don't know if I can dismiss it, we haven't tried dismissing spells in the Mythal. It's possible it would make it permanent... but dismissing a spell is fundamentally different than casting a spell. I wouldn't expect any problems though.

Beri ejects his hostage and starts to flee with the others, attempting to drop the ettins on top of the sniffers once he's put some distance between himself and the fight (Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)).

Sesha tosses a tanglefoot bag at one of the sniffers but the creature nimbly avoids it.

Garrett takes to the air in order to avoid the sniffers.

Restlin withdraws from the sniffers.

Tink flies after Restlin.

Zane makes sure everyone is in the air and asks if Beri can drop the Ettins.

Beri ejects his hostage and starts fleeing with the others.

Bosk asks for help as he is the only landbound one and hits on his third AOO. He then quaffs a reduce potion.

Zane casts Fly on Bosk but the spell fizzles as the Mythal flashes orange.

The Ettins stand from prone.

Some of the sniffers continue to savage the fallen Ettin and his bag of goods. The 2 sniffers start glowing as they absorb magic from the items in the bag.

Some of the sniffers and Ettins do battle. Both sniffers miss with their bites. One of the Ettins hits one of the sniffers for 20 damage.

Bosk finds himself flanked by Sniffers and they both miss with bites but hit with their noses. Bosk needs to make 2 DC 23 will saves or have his belt of strength and his Ishgaran headband lose its magic.

Four Ettins also skirmish with 2 Sniffers. 2 of the sniffers bite two of the Ettins and both fall prone while 2 of the Ettins club 1 of the Sniffers.

I wish I knew Bosk was going to need rescuing before I left... If nobody has a better idea I can grab him in my whirlwind and make a run for it after. Bosk, if nobody has a better idea, see if you can move to where I can get at you a little more safely, I will drop down on top of you, picking you up, and make a mad dash out of there.

Should Bosk and the others agree (Beri will know via Telepathic Bond), Beri will use a hero point (extra move action), to fly on top of Bosk picking him up in his whirlwind, and then use his full turn to move as fast as he can away from combat.

Zane, seeing that the fly didn't work, picks a spot on the ground that will leave Bosk out of the Area of Effect but gets the majority of everything else inside it, he casts a Darkness spell. *Hope it helps them from noticing you, if you can get a lot smaller, I'll grab you, I just don't have the strength to pick you up, and I'm no weakling.*
If he reduces himself to medium size, Zane will drop down to a level where he can reach him, without landing and prepare to pick him up.
If those two things happen, Zane will use a HERO point to pick him up, getting him off the ground and ready to fly off next round.

As the enemies drop and approach Bosk grits his teeth and checks to see if any of them recieve an AoO from their approach. As the sniffers attack both his items lose their abilities. Quickly he downs another potion of reduce person. If you are not going to help fight them with me, then get me out of here! The cleric uses his dark vision to keep an eye on his rescuer.

ooc: The belt was a belt of physical might +4. I upgraded it, but have not updated my CS yet (I have been using the old stats as well). As for the headband, I have 2, a regular one (int) and two slotless ones (con and dex). I need you to specify which one it is... ... ... for some reason I felt it safer to have each stat a separate item so I couldn't lose them all at once.

Can Tink use one of her hero points to grant Bosk a +2 bonus to his first save? Beri suggests picking Bosk up in his whirlwind.

Zane casts a darkness spell and prepares to pick up Bosk

Restlin prepares to use shiny to cast fly on Bosk should Zane's attempt fail.

Bosk was about to lose both his belt of strength and his Ishgaran Intelligence item but Tink heroically instructs the taur to dodge saving the belt. He also quaffs a potion of reduce person neither Sniffer hit on their AOOs as the potion goes down smooth.

Zane picks reduced Bosk off the ground heroically.

Sniffers 1,3,5 & 8 continue to swarm the fallen Ettin chasing after the threads eminating from his torn bag and the goods inside sniffing up more of the magic items contained therein.

Ettins 9 & 10 give chase and 10 manages to clobber one of the sniffers for 13 damage.

Ettins 6, 7 and 8 decide that they have had enough of this and slink away.

Ettins 2, 3, 4 move towards the members of the party and pick up some of the javelins that have fallen on the ground.

Ettins 1,4, and 5 continue to battle sniffer 6 in the dim light with one hitting the dog creature for 15 damage.

Sniffer 6 attempts to bite back but has its jaw turned aside by the Ettin's armor.

The party appears to be leaving just in time as 3 huge blue serpentine creatures with horns and many legs arrive on the scene (Knowledge[arcana]:23 Highlight to display spoiler: {Behirs}. 2 of the creatures get involved in the fighting between the Ettins and the Sniffers over the fallen Ettin's bounty being driven by the golden threads of the items.

The last creature gives chase after you and fires a line of electricity at Zane and Bosk (DC 19 reflex save or take 19 electricity damage) but your collective speed allows you to outpace it.

You move towards Mhalice's tower and you manage to find a courtyard just shy of Mhalice's tower free of creatures where you can rest and catch your breath for a moment.

In the ruins here there is a bubbly fountain and softly playing elfin music.

(OOC: Please take 25,000 xp from the 2 battles in this scene; Hero points to Restlin for throwing away the wand in the first encounter, Zane for rescuing Bosk, Beri for using reverse gravity to delay fighting the Ettins will also take nominations via mail; Steve will take over tomorrow)

Restlin breathes a sigh of relief as he touches down.

"Well, that went about as well as can be expected. Hopefully we'll have enough magic once we're done here to get out."

He takes a moment to thank Wardd, then ask for a bit of healing. He also channels what little energy he has outwards.

He looks around, making sure they know where they're going, and that nothing's hiding and ready to pounce on them.

Tink lands gracefully in the courtyard, but wastes no time in relaxing. Her eyes dart around. Why was that fountain still working? Where's that music coming from? She's keenly aware they're still surrounded by danger.

She gives the place a good once over, determined to fulfill her role as scout.

Garret looks around as they arrive at the courtyard and remains hovering just above the ground. He looks around at the rest of the group and says, "Is everyone okay? This is crazy."

Zane shrugs and the electricity misses him by a few feet."I'd have let it hit me, but was worried it would carry over and you Bosk, My nature is resistant to some electric type attacks, as long as they are huge enough to turn one into a pile of ash that is."
He sets Bosk down with the others and then gains 20 feet altitude and hovers there, keeping a look out.

He looks around for signs of danger, both nearby and to detect others approaching. He tries to judge whether there are additional gold threads nearby, and whether there are a bunch in the direction they are heading to.
Let's not stay too long, we seem to be targets everywhere we go. I'll change form before we enter the castle, any thoughts on what would be most useful? Oh, and be careful of traps, remember not to be greedy.
