OOC: I took the liberty of placing you on the map. If you disagree with your placement, e-mail me.

The attackers are ruthless and remorseless. They strike twice with two-handed falchions at Rogar and twice at Spire. They seem to be focusing in order to take down opponents fast.

Attacker 1 slashes at Rogar.

The first is a crit threat that confirms vs AC18 ... beating Rogar's 17! That one inflicts a massive 23 points of damage vs Rogar, and he is not only knocked unconscious, but at -12, he is very near death! [OOC: In Pathfinder, death comes at -Con, so Rogar dies at -16.]

Attacker 2 goes after Spire and just misses.

Attacker 3 aims at Baird and hits. Baird takes 11 damage. He's at -1.

Attacker 4 was going to attack Baird too, but now he can't. He readies an attack.

Map was sent in the mail. Two heroes are down with two blows! What is going on here?!

Dilantar, throwing caution to the wind as two of his companions are downed so quickly, throws a bomb just behind three of the attackers, hoping to at least distract them for a moment. (bomb placed behind attacker 3 to hit 2,3 & 4 with splash damage. Attack roll of 10 vs floor AC of 5 hit. 7 fire damage to all three attackers with a Reflex Save DC of 15 for half damage) Dilantar stands up from his seated position and directly faces the opponents.

(Burning Hands, DC 17 Reflex for half. Aimed at 3 and 4.)

Note: Even downed PCs can make a post. Keep the Pathfinder rules for dying in mind:

On the character's next turn, after being reduced to negative hit points (but not dead), and on all subsequent turns, the character must make a DC 10 Constitution check to become stable. The character takes a penalty on this roll equal to his negative hit point total. A character that is stable does not need to make this check. A natural 20 on this check is an automatic success. If the character fails this check, he loses 1 hit point. You can keep a dying character from losing any more hit points and make him stable with a DC 15 Heal check. If any sort of healing cures the dying character of even 1 point of damage, he becomes stable and stops losing hit points.

So make those Con checks!

Yel'kno lets out a yell in warning too late as his companions are cut down by the furry thugs before the yell turns into a scream of anger. The lanky sailor leaps onto the table while drawing his sword and after another step launches himself into the air and over their assailants to land on the table behind them.

If not dead from an AoO and still able, he'll lash out at thug 3 with his sword.

Action (Move I think?): On table, jump over men to the other table. Acrobatics: 17. I think this covers the 5' distance and the probably 3 feet height needed to go from table top to table top?

[OOC: Giada, please put your AC and current hit points in your post header with your name. Thanks!)

In the face of the sudden onslaught, Dilantar tosses a bomb behind the attackers. Attacker 2 saves for 3, and Attackers 3 and 4 take the full 7.

Spire follows with a spell that toasts foes 3 and 4 from the front. Both fail, and take 5 more.

Giada leaps forward to stand over Rogar, and she attacks the first foe with a sharp thrust. The blow lands home, inflicting a solid 8.

Alphonse makes a loud call to pay any who would aid the group. He casts a defensive spell and maneuvers around.

There are indeed other patrons in the place, some known by face, or even name to Alphonse. The mage's call for help (and promise of rich reward) brings one fellow to assist. A human known to Alphonse as Gretho the Great steps forward. He is a large human with a dwarvish ax sized for his own substantial frame. "What's this?" he bellows. "I know you're good for it, Alphie, so long as your pals don't burn me with their little flames!" The other patrons have made themselves scarce, especially after the explosion and flames.

Gregor raises his ax as he comes forward, and he attacks with a mighty critical hit! [DM rolled two 20s!] The ax falls fast and splits the skull of Attacker 2! The fellow takes 34 damage and falls down dead!

Yel'kno's acrobatics are enough to let him avoid AoOs as he makes a clever tactical move and draws his weapon. Attacker 4's readied attack is a clean miss with a natural 2. The positioning nets Yel'kno a +2 flanking bonus as he drives his sword home, bloodying Attacker 3 for 4.

Baird manages to stabilize, and is not in danger of passing on.

On the other hand, Rogar struggles to stay alive, but his cause is dire indeed! Without healing or first aid soon -- really soon -- he will die.

===== ===== =====

The three remaining attackers retaliate angrily.

Attacker 1 snarls at Gregor. "This is cult business, not yours. Get out now if you know what's good for you!"

Attacker 1 swings at Giada, and hits AC12, a miss.

Attacker 3 does the same, hitting AC19, inflicting 12 damage! That puts Giada at -1 hp, and she is down! (please roll Con check to stabilize).

Attacker 4 goes for Spire, hoping for an easy hit, but his attack on AC12 falls two short! Spire has been missed twice now by these battle-hardened ragers while his more sturdy friends drop like flies!

Noticing one of his companions in such dire straights, Dilantar decides to attpempt to stabilize the one in the most danger of dying. Crawling under the table to get to Rogar, Dilantar quickly does what he can to help out. Muttering a quick prayer to Alemi and hoping he isn't too late, Dilantar grabs a rag on the floor nearby to stop the bleeding. (rolled a 7 for Heal: First Aid check(DC 15), did not make the DC and used a hero Point to re roll the d20. New resulting roll is 13, still does not make the DC but if someone aids Dilantar he can stabilize Rogar) Realizing his inexperienced attempt at first aid will not be successful, Dilantar yells out, "If someone can help me, I am sure we can save Rogar from death!" He then proceeds to flip the table on its side as a barrier between himself and the combat (move action; move heavy object).

Dilantar makes a heroic effort to save Rogar, but it is not enough. He feels the dwarf's life slipping away. Rogar is at -15 hp and is about to die! (of course, Rogar has one more chance to stabilize himself, though it would take a natural 20!)

Alphonse seeks to magically break Attacker 1's weapon. [OOC to Alphonse: Your DM is so grateful when you post save DCs with your turn. Saves time.] The fellow's fort save is an 8, and his sword breaks!

Spire steps back five feet, draws his bow, and shoots attacker 4 for 1 hp damage.

Yel'kno swings and misses.

Giada is now at -2 and dropping. She is not stable, but it will be about a full minute before she expires. Maybe she will make her Con check.

Baird is at -1 hp and stable.

Gretho, grinning like a madman, takes a swing at attacker 3, hitting for 11 damage. That puts Attacker 3 down!

===== ===== =====

Attacker 1 drops his broken weapon. He takes a five foot step toward Dilantar and Spire, away from Gretho the Great. He bends down and picks up the weapon of his fallen friend. That provokes Attacks of Opportunity, so Spire and Dilantar can strike at the attacker if they have weapons at hand -- but I think that Spire likely has no weapon at hand but a bow, and you can't use a bow for AoOs, sorry. After taking any AoOs provoked by picking up an unbroken weapon, he swings at Spire. He hits AC13, a miss! Spire's run of luck continues!

Unfortunately, the brute had shifted his stance and dodged Alphonse's blow and Aplhonse trips, leaving him exposed on the floor.

Summoning up the all of his courage (and using a hero point for an extra action), Alphonse grabs the man's leg and tries again with his spell, which hits home this time. A blue-white arc of electricity flows from the man's boot to his sword (for 1 damage).

Spire and Alphonse work on the wounded, and Giada stops bleeding on her own. You manage to save the lives of two of your attackers. The third is as dead as can be.

After some care, Rogar, Giada, and Baird come around. They are all still in the negatives, and should not do anything strenuous, but they can look around and talk okay.

You figure you have a minute before the attackers come around. And about the same time before the tavern-keeper dares to show up. Anything you want to do immediately? Bind the villains? Check for loot?

Spire quickly hands Dilantar this vials, kicking the swords aside. "Those belong to the person that grabs them first." Quietly, he opens the coin purse and counts out the gold. He peers around at his allies, and shuffles his feet a bit. Anyone looking at him may be a bit confused as he turns halfway, then stops and turns back, then turns again, and stops once more. Letting out a grandiose sigh, Spire turns on his heel until he is facing everyone and says, "There's also the matter of this coin. I am not in need of any coin at the moment, so this should go towards covering any fees we've acquired here. The rest should go to Engev." With that, he puts the coin purse in his backpack, and kneels down once more to look at the amulets around the necks of the thugs. "Now this... this is interesting..." he mutters to himself, taking each of the amulets. He blinks, and his eyes glow once more with his Detect Magic spell, seeing if these amulets hold any magic to them.

Spire expresses some opinions on loot division (including Brother Engev) and takes a close look at the amulets. He determines that they are divine magic, and that they bestow upon the wearer a +1 sacred bonus to one attack and to one damage roll made each round in combat with a melee weapon or natural weapon. OOC: These are not stock magic items, and may not be bought or sold in the Catacombs. They take up the necklace/amulet slot. There are three of them.

Alphonse confirms the magical analysis. He also asks Gretho if he knows anyone who wants good swords. Gretho, sitting at the table where the attackers had sat and drinking their beer, says sure, he knows a guy who knows a guy who could get you top gold if you want to sell stuff.

Giada is also interested in the weaponry. The falchion is a two-handed weapon.

Baird looks at the broken falchion. Per the rules, a broken weapon imposes a --2 penalty on attack and damage rolls, only scores a critical hit on a natural 20 and only deals ×2 damage on a confirmed critical hit. Broken items are worth 75% of their normal value, and nonmagical broken items, such as this one, can be repaired with a mending or make whole spell or a DC 20 Craft check.

Dilantar identifies the potions and also has ideas about the division of loot.

Yel'kno watches the prisoners and is ready to interrogate them. But it will be a while before they come to, although magical healing (or even some really good Heal checks to "treat deadly wounds" (a DC20 Heal check) ) would bring them around a lot faster.

Rogar is also in favor of helping Engev. OOC: For the Core Rules and APG, I very highly recommend this site. Check out the first column of links under Core Rulebook and Advanced Player's Guide.

OOC: Your DM suggests that the players have a frank discussion to determine procedures for loot division, so as to avoid dissent and disagreement. You can have that discussion in character here or OOC in e-mail. That's my advice, not a requirement!

Dilantar straps his new dagger to his belt and his new sword to his back, and then picks up his backpack and settles it into place over his new sword. "I beleive we should settle up with the owner of this establishment and decide what we are keeping and selling, then leave for a more private location. Perhaps we can impose on Brother Engev again for a small period of time to discuss the things we need to." Dilantar waits to see what the others think of his suggestion.

[OOC: As far as loot goes, I think I should identify all the potions(I can do this with a Craft(Alchemy) check, and with my class bonuses, it will be a cakewalk) and the magic item identifying to the spell users and/or scrolls. As far as loot division, I suggest that if no one wants a particular item, we put it in the "party" pool and split the profits on selling it evenly. If we ever come to a situation where multiple people want the same item, a d100 should be rolled by all interested, with the highest result receiving the item in question. I can send an email later with these rules as bullet points, assuming no one has anything to add or has issue with one of the rules(I am always open to discussion, this is just a starting point)End of Wall of Text :P ]

Alphonse packs and lights his pipe, the smell of burning tobacco filling the air once again.

"My thoughts are this: We absolutely must pay the bartender for the damages. I recommend using the loot we found on these ruffians, then we can divvy up the spoils from whatever's left. Personally, I don't want anything, so you can split it up amongst yourselves. However," he says, as a dagger materializes in his hand (create gear), "I would suggest we let one of these two go."

Alphonse leans in close to thug 3 and holds the dagger next to his head for a moment, then swiftly cuts off a lock of the man's hair. Moving over, he does the same thing to thug 4.

"If we can find someone to scry on one of these fellows, they should lead us back to whatever cesspit they call home. Hopefully that should provide some clarity as to where Lansel has gone. Oh, and as for lodging, I recommend the Broken Lute Inn, it's where I've been staying. The rates are reasonable, the rats are small, and most importantly, they don't rob you in the night."

The Elf walks over to the unconscious men, grabbing the hair of one and pulling his head back. He lets it go, the head lolling around, and says, "We should at least get these fools out of here. They'll come about eventually, and we need to be ready for when that happens."

Giada and Dilantar watch carefully from within the room.

Rogar, Baird, and Spire wait outside.

Giada seems disappointed to learn that the group has little in the way of healing. Though she might take solace from the fact that although she has only 3 hp, she is not the hero closest to death in the group!

The intimidate works quite well, and the prisoner swears up and down that he'll tell you anything you want to know. Yel'kno asks what he has to say, and the prisoner blurts out, "My name is Ironclaw, and I'm sorry I tried to kill you. We had orders from the high priest to do it. Sorry!"

The prisoner, Ironclaw, tells Yel'kno that he comes from an island to the north, where they honor the spirits of nature, Wold, Bear, and Lion. In the fashion of his people, his name is Haearn Crafanc. The High Priest is a priest of his religion, and he is called Gwadd, the Mole. Ironclaw does not know why the priest ordered them to kill you, or where he is. He comes and goes as he wills.

Alphonse has heard a little about what he is talking about -- there are barbarians in the isles to the north, good for nothing but some trade in fur and pearls found in the waters nearby. They have shamans and priests and witches, it is said.

Dilantar strikes gold as he asks about Lansel. The prisoner says that his cult has captured the cleric and that Gwadd wants some information from him. He is being held in a warehouse on the edge of the waterfront district. Ironclaw also says it was their leader, who you killed, who knew where you would be. He thinks probably Gwadd told him where to go.

Rogar stays alert.

Alphonse returns to his room and gathers his belongings. Once his possessions are all packed, he walk over to the thug and draws an imposing-looking "magic" circle around the thug (prestidigitation to change the color of the floor where his finger touches it in some random arcane-looking pattern).

"There now, my friend," Alphonse says to the thug, "This room is paid for through tomorrow, at which point they'll find you in here and release you. One masterwork falchion (value roughly 320 gp)

One regular dagger (value roughly 2 gp)

===== ===== ===== ===== =====

Further interrogation of the prisoner by Dilantar and Giada reveals that there are no keys or passwords. The main and only door is barred on the inside and staffed by a guard who knows all the cultists in Bonetown. If he does not know you, you don't get in.

Moreover, in the daytime, there are only a few cultists likely to be there, say two to four. At night, before midnight, there are more, say six or eight, including, most likely, the high priest and beastmaster called The Mole. After midnight, the Mole usually leaves, but there will likely be eight or so sleeping in hammocks.

Any sensing motives think Ironclaw is telling the truth.

Alphonse and Yel'kno make arrangements to leave the prisoner undisturbed here. [OOC to Alphonse: no worries on the room. You are already paid up for the week.]

Spire suggests visiting Brother Engev and then finding a place to sleep.]

Baird suggests renting a room. He also heals everyone for four hit points!

Giada suggests healing up before going to the warehouse.

Alphonse wishes for a diviner to scry the cultists, but he knows that there is no such person in Bonetown proper.

If anyone can make a Knowledge (Local) check vs DC16, then Please Highlight to display spoiler: {You have heard that there's a witch living outside of town. Maybe she could scry for you?}

The party heads over to the teensy church that you slept so crampedly in last night. Brother Engev is done with the day's preaching, and is shocked to see you so wounded. He casts CLW on Giada, Baird, and Yel'kno, curing 9, 8, and 6 hp respectively. He is excited to hear that these cultists are holding Lansel.

Any other questions or comments for Engev? Will you squeeze in here to sleep or head somewhere else? Your choices include: The three taverns in town who have rooms, the two flophouses by the docks, and several houses of the night, where there is usually less sleeping, but hey, you can sleep there too, for a price. Or Lansel's flat, which is actually bigger than Engev's church and residence. Maybe the Lionfish, if it is still in port? Sleeping out of doors in or out of town? Or somewhere else?

Dilantar, after resting his feet for a few moments, suggests, "Let us stay at a tavern and rest up, before making our raid on the cultists. I also suggest that if anyone has any disguise magic, we make someone look like the cultist we captured and gain entry that way. Or, if no one is capable of that magic, I can rig some of my bombs to blow the door open. Be warned, it will be flashy and loud, but it should do the trick. From there, we could capture the door guard, close and bar the door against anyone else entering, and then find out where Lansel is being kept prisoner from the guard. Once we have secured Lansel, we can then proceed to dispose of any of the cultists who get in our way as we leave. Or alternatively, we can wipe out the cultists, to prevent anyone from finding us in our sleep. I would prefer as little bloodshed as possible, but with the way things have been going so far, we will probably not be able to avoid it." Dilantar awaits reactions to his statement.

Yel'kno remains silent on the walk to Brother Engrev's as he's lost in thought, planning for the coming raid on the warehouse and the hopeful rescue of a living, breathing Lansel. He remains alert as they move through the city, ever watchful of its inherent danger after the last two near death beatings he'd received in almost as many days.

After the situation is explained to Engrev, Yel'kno thanks the priest, but has no further questions for him, and adds his voice in agreement to finding another tavern to sleep in. "Between Baird and Brother Engrev I'm as good as I'm going to be. I'll take first watch in a hall way in case the cultist find us again..."

He does move over to Dilanter to inquire some into his bombs however, "Dilanter, if your bombs can blow the door do you think they could blow open a whole in a wall if it's made of wood? A door is likely guarded, but a section of wall?"

"If you can and we can get the witch Spire mentioned to scry Lansel's location in the warehouse we could make an opening in the wall near where he is, run in to grab Lansel and be out hopefully before the cultist even know what's going on. We might have a fight in the street afterwards, but at least that'd be in the open and not in a warehouse we don't know."

Dilantar thinks over what Spire was saying, and just as seriously replies in a low voice, "I agree that we should be more careful moving foward, but I must disagree regarding Alphonse and Giada. At least for this operation, for Alphonse did get someone to help us out in the tavern fight, and payed them off out of his own pocket, and Giada is a paladin, whom I cannot think would go so far as to betry our confidences. After this operation we should find some time to either get to know everyone better, and also find a more permanent place in this town. So for now, I just ask that you work with them, even if you have to keep an eye on them for your own reasons." Dilantar tries to keep his voice quiet so that he doesn't inadvertently offend anyone. Dilantar then eats his meal while awaiting the arrival of everyone.

Dilantar offers the idea of posing as Ironclaw and tricking the guard into opening the door.

Spire seems uncertain about that, and woke up on the paranoid side of the bed, it would seem. :-) Dilantar tries to reassure him.

Yel'kno wonders if Lansel is really dead, and if the witch could tell them.

Rogar proposes that the priest at the temple of Wardd is in cahoots with the barbarians.

Baird, a priest of Wardd, seems reluctant to embrace that idea. For some reason.

Alphonse asks Brother Engev if he can borrow a spare thurible. The cleric is confused. "Whatever do you need an incense-burner for?" he asks. But he is glad to offer Alphonse a slightly dinged thurible on loan.

And now the moment of decision and final planning is at hand! An explosive assault on a wall or door? A bit of trickery to get the guard to open the door, then a rush in, presumably? Or some other scented solution? The Wold (and your curious DM) hangs in anticipation!

Spire nods, thanking Dilantar for his time, and listens to everyone else's opinion in silence, finishing his food. "I wouldn't count the priest out of this yet," he says, putting his spellbook back into his bag. "Something doesn't fit. Hopefully we'll find out what today." Spire then waits for anyone else who was sleeping in the tavern, and heads over to Brother Engev's.

"Good morning gentlemen, Giada," Alphonse nods to each member of the party in turn, "I wonder if I might have a moment of your time. While the 'smash in the front door' approach may well work here, why don't we try something a bit more subtle? I have s quantity of cayenne pepper I acquired last night, and if we fill this thurible with it," he says, lifting a battered old incense burner, "and launch the smoldering ball into the warehouse, we may be able to get our enemies to flee their lair, at least temporarily. In the confusion, we could dispatch them one by one."

Alphonse puts the thurible back down on the table, pulls out his pipe, and begins to pack it.

"However, if you'd rather do this by brute force, I'll back you fully. Lansel is one of the only people in this pit of a town that I'd actually count among my friends, and I intend to see him safely home before this is through."

Lighting his pipe, Alphonse continues, "I also have an illusion spell prepared today, I'm not sure if it'll help, but I thought you should all know what we have in our arsenal."

Alphonse leans on the table and blows several smoke rings.

"Oh, and something I forgot yesterday in all the confusion. Everyone, this is crackerjack, my parrot."

The green macaw on Alphonse's shoulder shifts its feet and clacks its beak.

"Pleasure ta meet ya, RAAAWK!" it screeches.

"I am all for any option that doesn't involve us trying to charge in through a barred, well guarded door. Why not combine our ideas?" the lanky sailor says as he gestures with his hand to Dilantar, "Disguised as Ironclaw we can get them to open the

Open the door so we can lob in the. Errm, pepper ball. If that doesn't work to gett them out, we blow the wall." And at the introduction to Crackerjack, he moved his hand up to pet the birds beak if it lets him with a smile. "glad to have you with us,

With us, Crackerjack." He smile was wistful, thinking back to another wizard's familiar he once knew. When everyone was ready he asked, "to the witch?"

Dilantar listens to all the statements made, and begins, "And hello to you Crackerjack. I like the combination idea, with the stipulation that I do not receive pepper to the face." Dilantar looks a little worried at the prospect. "However, I suggest we make haste to ensure the greatest chance of success."

What if we're wrong and kill innocent people. We may want to consider the scrying idea. What if we blow a hole in the wall, toss a pepper bomb into the warehouse, and start hacking down people to find out that Lansel is not there? I think we might find ourselves the town outlaws.

If we cant scry to confirm his location, maybe send in Dilanter posing as Ironclaw to see if he's there. Once we know that he's there and alive, we can put everyone to the sword that kidnaps for profit.

Spire nods as Giada speaks, and when she finishes, he adds, "I agree with the knight in shining armour. We can't jump to conclusions here. Lansel might not be in there. And accepting that he's alive in that warehouse, we can only assume that either the priest of Wardd was lying, or that they somehow tricked him. Either way, that does not bode well." Spire's bow is already in his hand, and he begins stroking his chin with the other. "I have also prepared an illusion spell today. Perhaps blowing a hole in the wall isn't the best idea. With careful timing and the proper use of our combined skill sets and spells, I'm sure we can get in there undetected. Perhaps prepare the bomb as an escape route? It would certainly carry the element of surprise and almost guarantee our escape."

Baird waits as the others suggest ideas and plan the attack jumping in only after Spire's suggestion. "I think that this plan has the highest chance of success. I would rather see this resolved with no innocent blood being spilled."

"We could question the priest again just to gauge his reaction. If he was being truthful and cast the spell to aid us without ill intent then what could be powerful enough to fool a high priest's magic? Is it possible that Lansel was beyond the mortal coil when the spell is cast and he's not now? Also why dont we go and take a personal look at this well defended warehouse before making any real plans. What we plan on and what we find may be quite different."

The party plans what to do. Different options are weighed. In the meantime, here is what you know:

The warehouse is set back from the docks, on the edge of the waterfront district. The building is about 60 feet wide by 40 feet long, one story, hastily put up. One big entrance. Flat roof. Made of wood.

Walking by again won't give you more info, and may seem odd. The question now is this: Visit the witch or go to the warehouse?

Spire leans back, still stroking his chin. "Having a better idea of what's going on in that warehouse would be better. And having another person scry Lansel would give us a better indication of what's really going on..." Spire trailed off, his eyes flicking to Baird, not wanting to bring up the priest again. "We could go to the witch right now. When we get backed, we should wait until it's dark out do attack the warehouse. That will give Dilantar time to make his explosive. Then, we sneak in, free Lansel... probably. And then we blow a hole in the wall and... well, run like hell, I suppose."

"I vote for visiting the witch and asking her to scry for us. This would help in getting the location of Lansel as well as giving us a little more information that we might need." Dilantar continues, "Should we choose the method of blowing a hole in the wall, once we find out where Lansel is, I have a few ideas about how to accomplish this. The one that seems to have the best chance of succeeding is this: four of us quickly drill a hole large enough for one of my bomb catalysts to stay placed in, in the four corners of a door outline. Then, once that is done, we draw the frame of the door in the wood, to further aid creating a door shaped hole in the wall, since these walls seem very rickety, it shouldn't take much pressure to weaken it. Then once that is completed, and all this should not take more than a minute or so, we all back away, after warning Lansel to step away from the wall, and I throw a last bomb at the wall, causing all of my catalysts to explode and hopefully taking the wall out in the rough shape of a door. Granted this will be quite loud, and if anyone notices us doing this then we might get stopped so I will be relying on our more magical allies to screen us somehow. This is all assuming we choose this route, we can still attempt to get in through tricking the guard, perhaps with a bandage around my mouth area, to make it assume I took an injury, thus excusing my voice from sounding different than usual. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated" Dilantar looks around and waits for a response, if any.

"I agree we should see the witch first," says alphonse, scratching his beard, "we should know what we're up against, and scrying is just about the best way to manage that that I can think of."

"We should talk on the way."

Yel'kno nods his agreement in heading towards the witch. "We'd be remember that these are NOT innocent men we're after. They already tried to kill us once and almost succeeded." He waves a hand at the buildings around them. "This is Bonetown. There's no law here that I've heard of other than the law of your sword arm and weight of coins. If we're going to stay, we need to understand that... If this witch is able to help us prove that Lansel is in there with these islanders I won't lose sleep over spilling their blood to get him out."

"Oh, I have no issue with spilling blood if its necessary," says Alphonse, pocketing his pipe and walking towards the door, "In fact I'd prefer not to have enemies skulking around Bonetown if I'm going to be living here for the forseeable future. I just don't want to tread on the toes of, say, the harbormaster. A bit of hot pepper is one thing, but a bomb... well that's going to cause some serious damage. It could even start a fire, and that's something I'd rather not be responsible for."

Alphonse walks into the morning sunshine and stretches his arms.

"Crackerjack," he says, turning to the parrot on his shoulder, "fly up ahead and make sure the path is clear, would you?"

"RAAWK! You know it!" replies the macaw, leaving Alphonse's shoulder and soaring up in a circular motion.
