Sunny Days in Cinnamon Valley (DM Damarr)
Sunday May 14th, 2017 7:50:29 PM

OOC: I'll have to get back to you on the current XP total. For now, everyone go ahead and level up to 13th & we'll address any disparities shortly.

The Heroes return to a fitting welcome. With food and drink on their minds, there's arguably no place more relaxing than Magpie's Crossing. With it's numerous pools fed by the seemingly mystical waters of Magpie Lake, the town stands as half the cause for the Valley's continually warm weather, and a large source of the land's renowned fertility.

The welcomes continue as the heroes settle in at The Manor. Roel greets the Keepers with an update on their current holdings, and eagerly looks to Evaris for news of their adventures, a mixture of pride and longing in his eyes. He quickly (as he's able) sets about helping with the preparations.

Whillie & Ghillie run past, stopping to greet the heroes, before Finn & Glenda come into sight, chasing the troublesome teenagers, and the two boys run off again, laughing and tripping over each other.

As the heroes ready for their homecoming celebration, the farmers, merchants, and craftsmen of Magpie Crossing are more than happy to lend their services and wares to the cause, waving their hands at the suggestion that the heroes provide all the necessary provisions.

And what a feast it is! No less than five traveling bards turn out, in addition to nearly all the residents of Magpie Crossing (you have a chance to see & speak with everyone of note). Spirits are high all around, and everyone is eager to hear about your most recent adventure. There are a few good-natured scuffles, which no one is concerned enough to break up before they run their brief course, and the party-goers end the night as high-spirited as they began, although a few maybe a bit more sluggish. The good folks of Magpie Crossing say their farewells, and head home for the evening.

The next day dawns bright, nearly sparkling with promise. As the sun climbs into the sky, herders and farmers are already in pasture and field. Children are finishing chores before going to temple schools or, if old enough, apprenticeships and work of their own. Backyard gardens of vegetables, herbs, and flowers are being tended; aviaries of various species; and you can smell on a summer's breeze that smoke houses, ovens, and the nearby mineral baths are up and running.

It appears the day is yours to do as you wish!

At least half the party expressed interest in visiting the Catacombs to sell and restock, which you can reach through Maya's shop in Magpie Crossing.

If information or training is on your mind, there's a WLA Chapterhouse and a Mailed Fist Recruiting Office in Jarlswolf, an easy 2 hour walk down the road and around Wolf Hill (where there is also another entrance to the Catacombs).

There are two manned temples to Alemi & Domi in Magpie Crossing, as well as shrines to Pantheon, Gargul, Ffloy, Flower, and The Sisters, which are largely untended. Jarlswolf has a temple to Alemi and one for the King & Queen of the Fey, with a small, tended, shrine to Gargul, and unmanned shrines to the other Woldian gods and The Sisters.

Or perhaps just a relaxing visit to Tharen Brightsong's bathhouse is in order. The elven proprietor is well-known for keeping his ear to the street, after years of running the popular baths.

How would you like to spend this beautiful day in the Valley? Also please feel free to roleplay the homecoming celebration if you'd like.

Sunday May 14th, 2017 8:09:54 PM

Lanliss eats food and drink some fair amount of a good ale.
The gratitude of the Magpie Crossing folks and the surrounding makes him happy for a few minutes.
Some thought enters his mind, what if he can find a useful piece of magical artifact against the undead or perhaps should he pay a visit to a temple or shrine of Gragul.
He goes to sleep unsure of what to do the next day.
When he wakes up at the morning he says to himself, oh gods what should I do, he then begins to make a small preparations to go to the catacombs.

FRIDAY POST

Sensing a need for purification and communion with the Light, Shepherd Baslim retires to the chapel of Alemi. He spends the day in contemplative prayer. After hours of concentration, he receives a theophany just before supper. He emerges refreshed, despite going without food or water and spending the day prostrate. His countenance is brighter, and health seems to positively radiate from his body.

ooc: I gained a new ability. It affects the whole party.

"All creatures in medium range, including the paragon, both friend and foe, gain a +2 sacred bonus on all poison and disease saving throws."

Afterwards, Baslim prepares word of recall and designates the living room of their lodge as its destination.

After that or before, Lanliss goes to a shrine of Gragul and offers the following prayer.

Barratore listens with some interest to Roehl, but really only half hears the man. Barratore assumes Emrys or perhaps Shepard will handle anything dealing with the manor and upkeep. He does decide to give Roehl 100 in gold to put to restocking the larder and purchasing some barrels of good stout.

Barratore socializes, to an extent, but really that is a matter of simply moving about the party and eating and drinking. The uncharismatic minotaur is not a social creature or one to be at the center of attention, but he does like people. barratore finds himself drawn to the bards and their tales. Stories, stories of legendary deeds, heroics and battles for the ages. That is what drove his mind, his imagination and his whole self. To be a part of them, to live them. Adventure. He craved it like another would a strong drink and he had those about him who for their own rights and wants, were after the same thing. Life was good. And so was the beer

Barratore wakes neither late nor early and before departing to Jarlswolf and the WLA outpost, be wanders Magpie for some late baked goods and and fresh milk. He lets everyone in the group know he's headed to Jarlswolf, plans to spend a couple days at least at the outpost and so he's off

Brom is glad to see Magpie Crossing in the distance as they get close to home.

He takes a bath before the party and enjoys the long soak before dressing in his civilain attire. At the party, he is more than happy to regal the citizens of Magpie Crossing the exploits of his battle against the plague zombies, Performance DC 20. He eats, drinks, and tells his tale 'til late.

The next morning, he is up and ready to wander about the village. He grabs some food and drink and wanders about. He spends the day being lazy.

The next day, he is dressed and heads off to Jarlswolf to train at the WLA outpost.

Emrys would normally be the life's blood of any party. His alluring presence, his mesmerizing performances, both music and spoken word, and most of all, his overwhelming beauty has always brought joy and happiness to everyone around him. He normally allowed everyone the pleasure of drinking him in ... to the point of drunkenness. With great beauty comes great responsibility ... he must willingly share his countless gifts ... to deny his innumerable admirers would be a crime. However this time ... he holds back a little. He remains wonderful by anyone's standards, but he is distracted by unseen forces and not so quiet thoughts. He contemplates his next actions during a prolonged bath ... while his unseen servants pamper him in all matters of pampering.

He then pops over to the Catacombs for some shopping.

After his prolonged bath, instead of going to Wondrous-Mart (the Catacombs) with the others ... he dives into his long, overdue work. He decides to spend his time brewing potions and writing magical scrolls. A spark of inspiration comes to him while working his magic ... he finally figured out a spell that will destroy those cursed with undeath! For way too long he has had little no options when faced against the undead. With all his recent use of necromantic magic, he finally has discovered the power to unravel their dark and unnatural existences ... with a single word, and a little finger twiddling, permanently! IF only he had figured it out in time before their encounter with Garth. "That's right GARTH! Party time is OVER!"

Sunny Days in Cinnamon Valley (DM Damarr)
Tuesday May 16th, 2017 2:17:36 AM

The celebration is enjoyed by all; some humbly drinking the praise of the commoners, others drinking humbly with the praising commoners. A collective cry goes out at the critical points of Brom's tale; raucous cheers for his stand amidst the zombies.

Evaris prepares a private Heroes' Feast for his comrades, as Baslim's presence alone reveals the power of his recent revelation. Between the two, it seems poison and disease will soon be very distant enemies for the group.

Velarin, joined by a number of his companions, takes the heroes' loot to sell in the Catacombs. Lanliss offers a prayer to the god of death, and looks to arm himself against the undead ogre mage that's still at-large. Baslim donates a very specific fraction of his share to the temple of Alemi.

Emrys, similarly avowed to find a way to better deal with the undead, strikes an epiphany of his own after hours of brewing and tinkering.

Barratore, rousing in good spirits, heads off to Jarlswolf with Brom, a few days of training on their mind.

Time passes easy in the Valley. The days are cool, nights warm. Is there anything else you'd like to take care of?

Leaving Magpie Crossing, Brom decides to make this trip more than a three hour tour. He decides that he will head to Merrydale first and visit the village of the little-folk before taking the road to the Pillar of Cnut, and then on to Jarlswolf.

As he walks, notes the gentle hills and wide open fields of the Vale. His mind drifts to pleasant things and he daydreams about the good things in life - the ale at the Shadfly tavern, the petite brunette he sees often working in the market, and of course the countless battles he has been in. His mind drifts to all of those things as me walks towards Merrydale.

In Merrydale, Brom partakes of the fine food and beverages of the village. He is willing to talk to anyone wanting to have a conversation with him. He doesn't make note of his membership with the Keepers, but if recognized, he says he is a member of the group and that he is on his way to Jarlswolf, but thought a stop by the lovely village of Merrydale to try their drink and food was a fine idea.

After spending several hours in Merrydale, he is off towards the Pillar of Cnut. From there, he turns west towards Jarlswolf. Again, he finds the walk peaceful.

In Jarlswolf, he locates the Broken Cauldron and sets himself up for a room and a meal. He eats and drinks and makes merry for many hours before retiring for the night.

Perception DC 29 for the trip

Two Scrolls of Mage's Magnificent Mansion @ 2,275 each
A Scroll of Force Cage @ 2,275
2 potions of cure serious @ 750 each
2 potions of lesser Restoration @ 300 each

and I also need the inks and materials necessary to pen the following scrolls myself. I already have the ointment and the dust for the stoneskins and the true sights (I used 12.5 x level of spell x 13 to calculate cost)

2 true sight @ 975 each
1 Greater Dispel @ 975

Arriving at Jarlswolf, he secures a place at the Cauldron and spends the rest of his first day in the market area listening to the goings on and spending some money on food and drink. That evening will be dinner at the Cauldron, hopefully listening to a tale or two over a stout or four.

The following day and for the next several, Barratore will be at the WLA outpost, reading, studying and training.

Sunny Days in Cinnamon Valley (DM Damarr)
Wednesday May 17th, 2017 3:47:36 AM

Velarin secludes himself in his room, scribing scrolls & learning new spells from his trip to the Catacombs.

Edson, after taking a well-deserved rest, catches up on some overdue training at the WLA Chapter in Jarlswolf.

Brom takes the scenic route to Jarlswolf, stopping in Merrydale to visit with the halflings living in the hills there. The villagers are happy for the adventurer's company, standing under the open-air awning built for the tall-folk at the Harvest Bounty Inn, but it's not until a bit later in the day when a young boy pipes up, tugging on the big man's sleeve, that the villagers recognize the hero. Brom says his farewells to a larger crowd at the inn than when he arrived, and continues on to Jarlswolf to retire for the night and seek out the WLA the next day

Lanliss is a bit more straightforward with his training at the WLA, taking the time to help out around Magpie Crossing after his brief trip to Jarlswolf. Feeling a bit bold, the quick-fingered half-elf tries to sneak a few of the scrolls that V isn't currently pouring over, planning a bit of extracurricular studies himself.

Evaris stops in the League Chapterhouse as well, hoping to aid his fellows with the lessons learned there while making sure to keep his dues current.

To Roel's dismay, Emrys takes over the kitchen at The Manor for some cooking of his own, in true princely fashion, with his unseen servants at his whim.

Crafting:
Highlight to display spoiler: {((Wold Crafting follows the Core Rules, except crafted items cost 75% of the market price, instead of 50%. Standard crafting time is 1 day/1,000gp in the item's market price, but lower level potions take only a couple hours each. I'll have to look at the Bloodwitch potion-crafting, because I know they do things differently but I'm not familiar with that myself yet))}

Baslim continues to relax and enjoy the comforting environs of Cinnamon Valley.

Barratore spends a few days training and asks after tales at the WLA. You hear that the pirate-infested waters of the Middle Seas, far to the West, might soon see a bit more order, after an undead-crewed vessel, captained by a powerful necromancer, was sunk by a group of heroes. There's also mention of a new band of adventurers in that region, but another member of the WLA scoffs, "they ain't proved themselves yet... plenty upstarts think they can do what we do. Even now, ain't no easy feat trying to bring those taurs together for the others' good." The speaker gives Barratore and the torc about his neck a glance, then closes his mouth and turns back to his drink.

It does relieve you to hear that the Floating City seems to be in good hands, with another young group of heroes following in the footsteps of the Keepers to protect that Wonder of the Wold.

One man starts excitedly rambling about "beings from beyond the Wold," flying buildings, and heroes battling gods above the sky, but the others laugh him quiet pretty quick.

As you finish your tasks and enjoy this stint of personal time, you eventually all find yourselves back at The Manor. One morning, in the midst of breakfast, Kitten walks in, with Roel limping behind and clearly trying to catch the evasive feline. Cute and fluffy as ever, the gray and black striped cat carries the same little mini-word in her mouth, except now the sword is giving off a faint but very noticeable glow.

After having completed all his scribing, V sits down to a nice breakfast, and stretches his slightly cramped hands. As the wizard begins to eat, he once again sees their all too familiar friend the kitten, who once again has the mini sword.

V remembers retrieving the sword from the kitten prior to leaving on their last adventure. Apparently the feline located and reclaimed the sword. The obvious glow of the sword catches his attention, and he stands up and moves to retrieve the sword from the kitten once again. After doing so, V casts detect magic upon the weapon to learn that it has a moderate level Divination spell upon it. With a little closer look, (Spellcraft 40) V turns to the rest of the group and announces "It appears we are being scried upon. Does anyone have the ability to find out who?"

Well Lanliss, This mini sword is as scrying device. Wherever it goes, someone sees everything it's around. Which likely means that someone knows the layout of our place, probably the layout of the area, and who knows what else. Either way, probably not good. Sunny Days in Cinnamon Valley (DM Damarr)

Kitten, who Evaris notes may be overdue for a less literal name, winds about V's legs, purring, as the wizard retrieves the miniature weapon. Easily detecting the Scrying spell on the little sword, V turns to the others to see about tracing the spell's origin before they remove it.

Lanliss raises concerns about someone divining information about the Keepers' inner workings, while Evaris notes that he could return the favor with a Scrying spell of his own, but he would need more information to find the one scrying, and cannot otherwise trace the spell with his own divinations.

Baslim suggests they bring the sword to the WLA for further investigation, or contact the Sages' Guild for their helpful expertise.

As the weight of someone possibly spying on the heroes settles in, and ideas for finding the spy are played out, there comes a knock at The Manor door.

A tense moment. Or perhaps not, as Roel opens the door to reveal Lord Hmitri, accompanied by his usual guard and companion, Hmark.

The young noble is as high spirited as ever, with the Guard Captain standing in stark contrast with his usual serious demeanor.

"Well met on this fine day, Keepers of the Vale!" Hmitri greets the heroes. "I come with news of celebration! The leaves of the Glittermint tree have begun to fall, as sure a sign as any of the pending Day of Renewal!" He indicates one of the wondrous trees growing in the back of The Manor, which, sure enough, has begun to drop its colorful, fire-like leaves.

"I wish to invite you all to witness the coming Day of Renewal - an annual celebration of this hearty land we call home, with folks from all over the Valley coming together to watch Glitterox erupt and spread the blessings of Alemi and The Sisters across the Valley for the coming year. It would be a distinct honor for you to join us to witness the event."

Hmitri waits for your response with hopeful enthusiasm, eyes sparkling as if they had just fallen from the Glittermint tree themselves.

" Another party, it's as if you know us better then we know ourselves. " Edson says as he moves to greet the men. His eyes keep scanning for the kitten and it's glowing sword.

Even though he isn't overtly religious, the thought of a good year is a welcome idea

Barratore pays some additional gold to the WLA and gets recognized now as an Officer and through study of the area and the stories of the bards he becomes far more Cosmopolitan and learns a couple new languages. The fighter, being who he is, also spends a great deal of time training with his blade, bow and horns.

He hits the catacombs and returns home

Barratore asks about the range of the scrying, as his thought is more direct. "Tie som twine around it and drop it down the latrine. Brom and me will give them some god stuff to see and hear later"

Another party? The Valley might just be the best place ever.

Barratore walks over and shakes Hmitri's hand. "We'll be there." He says definitively

Emrys gives his suggestion about Velarin's scrying discovery.

"There may be a way to find out who or what this peeper is. For now I can thwart the scryer by directing his divination to another creature or object. Perhaps one of the migrating birds outside."

When Hmitri arrives at their door, Emrys' face lights up with enthusiasm ... "Yes! It is that time of year, isn't it? Excellent! Thank you so much for inviting us. Yes, I can't wait to see Glitterox light up the sky!"

(sorry, I overslept last night.)

Although Barratore's idea has some merit, I think Emrys might have the best suggestion for the moment. I have a feeling we will be seeing more out of this little sword. I would just dispel it, but we may have need of it in the future. I'm starting to wonder if our little kitten friend here is a familiar.

V greets Lord Hmitri, and then let's the others accept on behalf of the Keepers.

(Ooc: catacombs is done, but I'm out of town and working by phone, so I can't really do all cutting, pasting, CC ing until I get back home Saturday. Should have everyone's cut then. Each person will get another 9000 to 10000 from sale of magic)

"She does seem to be fond of the sword," Evaris says of the kitten. "Maybe we should call her Valdor."

"But if we're concerned about the scrying, we could just shut the sword up in a box," he says. "Then the scrying person would only see the inside of the box, and that wouldn't be very interesting. And it would give us time to work on finding them."

He is also looking forward to the party.

Agreed. A box would be best. I do not have a familiar. I'm trying to think of a way to detect one, but am drawing a blank at the moment(know arcane/spellcraft 35/29). Anyone knowledgeable on detecting familiars or shape shifters?

Brom returns from Jarlswolf. He heads up to his room and drops off his stuff before coming down and asking what has been going on in Magpie Crossing. He tells the group about his trip to Merrydale and the halflings as well as his training at the WLA.

Hearing about the cat and the magical sword, he says "I'll just let you magic guys deal with that. It's over my pay grade."

Discussion of the Day of Renewal makes him take notice. Another party always gets the barbarian's attention. He decides before the celebration, he needed a bath and some new civilian clothes.

Divinations & Celebrations (DM Damarr)
Thursday May 18th, 2017 8:14:54 PM

Edson, watching the cat and the little sword with a bit of nervousness, says that a big celebration is right up the heroes' alley.

On his trip to Jarlswolf, Barratore rises to the rank of Officer in the WLA, and takes a few lessons to boost his people-person skills. The still less-than-couth minotaur suggests they give the Mysterious Scryer something humorously unpleasant to observe by dropping the sword down the privvy. He gives Hmitri a definitive yes on the Keeper's attendance for the Day of Renewal, enveloping the young lord's hand in his own.

Emrys agrees that they should work to figure out who the Scryer is before getting rid of the spell or sword, and offers to magically redirect the divination elsewhere for the time being. He also confirms the their attendance at the party, thanking Hmitri for the invitation and expressing his own eagerness to see the Wold-renowned event.

Velarin seems as concerned as Edson over the sword, and gives the guests a brief greeting before turning his mind back to the issue at-hand. It's a fairly simple matter to get rid of the unwanted spell, but the heroes are mostly agreed that it would be better done after they find out who cast it in the first place. Puzzling over the item, V suspects that the little cat may be a familiar - after all, many magic-users bond with the animals to further their spellcasting. He doesn't, however, notice any of the signs indicating this particular cat is a familiar to anyone (familiars are magical beasts, which would be K:Arcana to identify. Your roll was sufficient; the cat's not magical in any way).

Evaris offers the simplest solution to blocking the Scrying Spell - put it somewhere where there's nothing to see, like under a box. V agrees this may be the best temporary measure. Evaris also suggests a new name for Kitten - Valdor, in honor of one of the Wold's greatest heroes, after her fondness for the little sword.

Lanliss also recommends putting the sword in a box for now, and starts thinking about the upcoming festivities.

Returning from his own leisurely trip to Jarlswolf, Brom leaves the discussion of the glowing sword to the folks more accustomed to magic. He shares his news of Merrydale, which Lord Hmitri, as a member of the Pitchfork Council leading the Valley, is very glad to hear. It seems that celebrations are the Keepers' thing, as Brom starts making his own mental preparations, mostly wanting to pretty himself up.

Lord Hmitri, seeing the Keepers preoccupation with the glowing sword and their furry friend, offers his own unsolicited advice. "Bring the sword to Dulcet! Anything magical or inexplicably curious is just the stuff for her and her coven." His smile falters a moment as a slight blush slides into his cheeks. "Actually, I'm very glad to hear you'll join us for the Day of Renewal.. and... I have a request - we here in Magpie Crossing don't actually know the date Glitterox will erupt. We usually send an emissary to Witchspawn at this time to learn the exact date. You, uh, could kill two birds with one stone, now, I suppose, as, uh, I'm sure Dulcet can help you figure out what's up with your glowing trinket."

"We can make other arrangements to speak with the witches about the Day of Renewal, but I thought this might be a good chance for you to meet Dulcet, if you haven't, and it seems like you might have your own reasons to visit the witch. Can I count on you to bring back the details on the Day of Renewal from Witchspawn?"

Divinations & Celebrations (DM Damarr)
Sunday May 21st, 2017 4:20:17 PM

The heroes agree to get the information on the Day of Renewal for Hmitri, seeing as they were probably going to visit the witches anyway. The young lord thanks you for your service to Cinnamon Valley and the humble town of Magpie Crossing. He seems quite caught up in the excitement of the season, and immediately starts talking to Hmark about further preparations as they take their leave..

The journey to Witchspawn takes most of the day, but follows well-maintained roads, passing Jarlswolf a short 30 minutes before reaching the smaller, more eclectic village. Your trip is mostly uneventful; you see some wildlife along the way, and meet a few other travelers, who offer warm greetings while keeping about their business.

You arrive in Witchspawn at dusk, and quickly locate Dulcet's small manor home. The land all around the building looks like it's been left to nature. Long grasses, creeping vines, and scrubby bushes fill every inch. You find there's a certain beauty to the overgrown yard; even those plants that don't bear flowers display a variety of eye-catching colors in their stems and leaves.

Knowledge (nature) DC 20: Highlight to display spoiler: {You identify many of the plants as serving some medicinal or other functional purpose. Someone probably planted a good number of them, and the exotic garden, despite appearances, is very well-tended & cared for.}

As you stand at the foot of the main walk to the manor, possibly debating whether to call on the witch tonight or bed down for the night at the inn, the front door swings open, revealing a human woman well into her later years. Wrapped in a woven shawl, over a many-pocketed gray and brown robe, Dulcet stands hunched with one thin, bony hand beckoning you forward.

"Blessings of The Sisters upon you, Keepers of the Vale." She greets you. "I foresaw that we would meet again, though the reason for your visit was hidden in the shadows. Please, come in and we can discuss your request in comfort."

The witch leads you into a comfortable sitting room, lit by a number of candles that have since started melting onto the tables and shelves on which they rest. The crone takes a seat on one plush chair, her thin frame sinking into the cushions.

"Now, what would you ask of me? After saving the Vale's casters, I will do what I can, of course."

Thank you and good evening. We appreciate you seeing us at this hour, and entertaining our request. Our question is two fold... For Lord Hmitiri and the council, we bring the request of learning the date that the Glitterox will erupt. They wish to throw a large celebration which would be dependent upon knowing the date.

For us, we have a curiosity. My friend has a tiny sword in a box. A kitten has showed up more than once, carrying this little sword around. This most recent time, it had a glow of magic, and a detect magic spell revelaed it to be a moderate divination effect. following which, I learned it was being used to scry. We were wondering if you could help us learn who is scrying upon us, so that we might seek them out to ask them why?

Memorized Spells:
