On The Road to Witchspawn. (SteveK)

Evaris confronts the boy. What happened?

Lanliss waits for more information. He looks about, knowing he is about a 1/2 mile from the village of Witchspawn to the west, and a couple hindred feet from the dust cloud the is... was... the collapsed tower.

Edson trots towards the tower. It is easily seen that they are too far to hear anything.

Barratorre steps away from the child and looks about to ensure there is no other enemy. The Minotaur sees nothing volutes the trees, stream, stone bridge, road, and the dust cloud where the tower used to be.

The boy sobs and falls into Evaris' arms. "I'm Connor. My twin sister, Willa, and I were picking mushrooms near the Sunrise Tower and the ground gave way. I could hear her screaming but couldn’t see her, please help!”

The boy, Connor, shudders and squeaks in pain, doubling up around his stomach. Heal Skill dc 15 Highlight to display spoiler: { Heal Check of DC 15 shows nothing wrong. He will tell the Heroes he can feel his sister between grunts of pain. }

Evaris quickly assesses the lad is unhurt, but he seems to be feeling his twin's pain, as sometimes happens. "Well," he says, striving for calm. "We'll just need to rescue her then, won't we? Is there anyone other than Willa in the tower?"

Brom looks to Barratore and with a nod starts running towards the dust cloud, which Brom believes is the location of the collapsed tower. Once at the tower, he looks for the collapsed ground. He looks into and listens to see if he can detect anything.

"Tut, tut. Shhh." The Shepherd lays a gentle hand on the lad's shoulder. "We will help your sister. Come, show us where to find this hole."

As they walk, Baslim asks, "How do you 'feel' her, lad? Are you connected to each other some way?"

Velarin also runs towards the tower with the others, hoping that they are not too late. As he approaches, he will look and see if he can spot the likely area where the ground collapsed. (perception 28)

Evaris and Baslim stay with the scared boy, Connor. The Shepherd is able to calm him down and the elf to get more information. "We've always known what each other is thinking and feeling. It just IS, Mister." And, "No, sir, just Willa and me. We were getting mushrooms for Momma for dinner."

Brom, Barratorre, Edson, and Velarin hustle towards the collapsed tower. It take s a couple minutes to get there, and the dust cloud has settled or blown away. What is left is a true jumble of worked stone and knotted roots of pulled up vines and saplings.

Barratorre grows (and was there the hint in the wind of a narrator in a nasally voice?) Velarin looks, and Brom does a search for tracks. Both Velarin and Brom can hear Willa feebly crying in fear and pain. She is somewhere below the rubble, but it is hard to be certain where. Brom can also tell that the rubble is unstable, loose, and can shift!

Velarin calls loudly into the collapse. "Willa! We are coming for you. your brother is ok, andwe will get you out. Just give us a few minutes, and we will get you out!

Turning to the others, "Alright fellas. We got issues on this one. up front, all I see is starting to dig out the rubble and hopefully not collapse it upon the poor girl. Anyone else have anything brilliant?"

After hearing if anyone else has anything great ideas, V remembers that he is supposed to be brilliant and tries to come up with another option.

"Alright. How bout this. I could summon another earth elemental, or better yet, several smaller ones. They move through the ground better than we move through the air. No ripple or movement is created, and no shifting of the land should occur. If i summon several, I can instruct one to find the girl first, and shield her from the harm of crushing or shifting rock, and instruct the others to excavate her as safely as possible from this pit. Nothing will know the earth or what it will do better than these beings, and they may be her best chance. What do you think? time is of the essence."

Brom looks about at the terrain. He looks about the forest around them. "Barratore, we need long trees." He looks at the others while he pulls rope from his pack. "And rope. We need to tie long beams together to make stable ground for us to stand. We run them along the outside edge of the unstable area to give a safe place to stand. Then we can start to remove debri. It'll be like putting boards on cracking ice."

He starts taking off his armor so he can move easier.

(sorry for not posting, ive been rather ill lately)

Emrys mutters a few words of power and kneels down next to the frightened boy. "Now now, dear Connor ... have no worries, we will find your sister (Diplomacy: 42)." He then touches the boy's arm in a seemingly attempt at comfort. Once the touch is made, his Lore Keeper ability activates (knowledge domain). Emrys supernaturally receives information about the child

(immediately learning the child's race, strengths, weaknesses and abilities; as if he made a Knowledge check of 26).

"That sounds like a decent plan, Velarin," Evaris says. "Connor, do you have any way of sensing where in all that rubble we could find Willa? It's all right if you can't," he says, attempting to be reassuring. "We'll find her regardless. But it would be a big help if you could."

"That is a fine plan, master mage." Baslim claps Velarin on the shoulder. "There is a little something I can do to help, as well."

"Though I am flesh, the Light is ever present, and those I have called, they remember, and they shall endure. I shall sing with them the prayers, and all will know, we walk in the Light, and none shall stand before us."

Baslim stretches out his hand and wraps it around the end of his staff. A light suffuses the wood, causing it to shine like the midday sun. He holds it out over the precipice, lighting the space underneath.

Lanliss listens but can't hear anything over the other noises of the heroes working.

Velarin suggests conjuring several small earth elementals that could help protect Willa while the heroes dig her out.

Evaris agrees that the elementals are a good idea.

Emrys reaches out and magically determines that Connor is a young human with the normal human strengths and weaknesses.

Baslim goes to the ruined pile and casts Daylight. It doesn't do much right now (since it is daytime and there isn't a hole) but it will become useful after the heroes start to dig.

It is Barratorre who starts the process, his elnowledge of engineering supplemented by Brom's survival knowledge and Edison's willing helping hands. Together, they identify the unstable land and rubble and create a wooden truss that will keep the movement of the heroes from shifting the treacherous stone.

Connor stays near Evaris, Baslim, and Emrys, the three keeping him calm and eliciting answers. "I don't know exactly, we were near the base of the tower but now that it's fallen I don't know where that is anymore." He winces. "Ow! Willa is hurt but not really really hurt right now "

Calling loudly and listening very carefully is rewarded: a faint 'help' comes from one end of the ruined area near one set of wooden trusses that Barratorre, Brom, and Edson put down.

" when we get close enough to get her, let me grab her. No sense adding your weight to the rubble." Edson says to Brom and Barratore.

If they keep digging and locate her Edson will scoop her up and bring her away from the rubble.

Brom grabs an enlarge potion from his bag and drinks it. He grows in size. Together with Barratore there's very little the two powerhouses cannot move. He picks through the debris and choosing the safest pieces to remove, with Barratore using his knowledge along with his own.

"Edson, yur gonna have the worst of the jobs. Yur gonna have to snake in there to find and pull her out if we can't get this cleared enough."

If my elementals can protect her Brom, they can likely bring her out once we have cleared enough, but we will see what things look like when we get there.

While the others work to clear the rubble, V works to protect Willa from collapsing debris or shifting earth. V casts Summon Monster V, and chooses to call forth 3 medium sized earth elementals. Speaking to them in Terran, he asks the first two to locate the human child buried in the rubble and carefully position themselves around her, to protect her from further injury or death from moving rubble or ground. V then asks the third to go into the ground, also locate the girl, and work to carefully remove the dirt and debris above the girl, if possible, while we start removing the debris at the surface.

Lanliss keeps looking about, ready to help when needed.

Evaris keeps Conner calm, and praises the boy for the help he is providing the heroes. Dusty and worried, the boy seems to grow stronger under the praise.

Emrys touches a nearby LeyLine and uses the affinity of the twin to locate his sister. Emrys knows EXACTLY where Willa is buried!

Baslim keeps a reassuring presence near Connor and his staff ready as the others create a hole.

Velarin conjures three elementals, and as he is able to speak Terran, more spaecific instructions are easy. Two slide beneath the rubble where Emrys points and protects the girl. One goes down and back up, giving a thumb's up to Velarin

And Barratorre, Brom, and Edson keep digging.
....

The digging party soon finds Willa nearly ten feet down. They find the two elementals keeping a really large and sharp rock away from the girl's abdomen! The large and huge Brom and Barratorre make like pillars, holding back loose stone as Edson crawls down and carefully extracts Willa from her entombed state.

The girl is free!

Lanliss' casual eyes notice a woman on the road walking from Witchspawn towards the ruins at a fast pace.

He looks at the women with a watchful gaze to ensure it's really not a surprise attack of some sort.

As the girl is lifted from the ground, Emrys gives Connor a smile and a wink and says, "Didn't I tell you, no trouble at all."

Emrys is there to greet the girl as she is being lifted from the ground. "My lady, fear not. You're in the presence of friends. Your dear brother, Connor, requested that we'd find you ... and find you we did (diplomacy: 41).

He gently puts the girl down, figuring someone more equipped to check her health will want to step in.

V is pleased with the results of the rescue. All the group working in tandem to dissect and solve the problem without lengthy debate or wasted time, and to the most positive result possible.

Velarin seems about to dismiss his elementals, but then his mind starts possibly over-analyzing things. The fact that if the ground collapsed, then there must have been or still be tunnels or rooms under the ground. Perhaps unexplored, and perhaps leading into an underground cavity or area where kidnap victims may be taken. Wanting to make more use of the elementals before they go, he quickly instructs them to quickly check the area under the old keep, each in a different direction, for un-collapsed tunnels or caverns, and to return and tell him if they find any.

Willa is pulled from the ground and Emrys takes care of her spirits as Evaris takes care of her hurts. (Yes, she has a really bad abdominal bruise, and Evaris fixes it up with a Cure Light Wounds)

Barratorre gives congratulations to Edson, and the rogue wishes it wasn't so hard!

Velarin has his curiosity piqued, and the earth elementals do a search. When they come back, they report an underground portion of the stream did once carve tunnels, but they are all collapsed now.

Lanliss makes everyone aware of the woman arriving, and Baslim's question is answered by Connor who is fiercely hugging his twin. "That's not Mom, that's the Green Witch. She's nice."
....

And as the woman comes closer, the heroes can see she is a human woman wearing cloth and leathers the color of the forest leaves and bark. "I had a premonition I would be needed here, but as a rescue not a welcome committee. I am Kayleigh, the Green Witch. Thank you for rescuing Connor and Willa, and I would like to invite the Keepers of the Vale to dinner at Witchspawn!"

Barratore heavily, perhaps even more so the second time, clasps Edson's other shoulder. "Now where would the fun be in simple?"

The enlarge wears off, or Barratore dismisses it as the 'green witch' approaches. Barratore finds himself a bit surprised that she refers to herself as the Green Witch. When Conner has named her, he assumed it was a simple child's name. The thought, like many others, is easily and quickly dismissed as she mentions a feast of eating and drinking. It might not be what she said, but it is what he hears.

Brom grins back to Barratore. He was glad the girl was alright. "Well done." He says to Edson as he brings the girl out.

The witch arrives and Brom is glad he's not getting in a fight with his back covered this waist in building debris. He accepts the dinner invite and asks where one might find some barrels of ale to bring to the meal.

Baslim smiles, but it does not reach his eyes. "Yes, we would be delighted. Thank you. Glad we could help." He had been worried about this part of their journey. Witches are rather unsavory sorts. Or rather, they are more likely to be unsavory sorts. He furrowed his eyebrows and admonished himself. The Light shines in the darkest places. Perhaps it shines in Witchspawn, as well. He follows with the group, trying his best to be optimistic.

We are indeed in a mission to rescue 2 people that got kidnapped and as much as we all would be more than happy to be at your party , we might need to find them before any kind of party takes place, as every night that passes means uncertain future for those we seek to rescue.

Brom, distracted by the talk of food and drink, had forgotten the purpose of their travels.

"Another time." He says.

Once the kids are checked over and found fine, Brom heads back off to relocate the trail.

Some of the heroes are distracted by the offer of food, but Evaris is the first one to point out they are following a trail and need to continue. Kayleigh looks at the setting sun and murmurs to herself (Perception DC 25 Highlight to display spoiler: { very focused, just like Sunrise Song}. She gestures in assent to the heroes wishes. "I wish you good journey then. If you are seeking something which is hidden, few things may remain that way from the Coven of Witchspawn when we give focus to our allies. My foster mother, Dulcet, has spoken well of your bravery and wisdom. Like the Sunrise Song", (and here she gestures to the ruin) "you strive to keep the people of Cinnamon Valley safe. I shall return Willa and Connor to their parents. Merry meet, merry part, and merry meet again!"

Kayleigh gathers up the complying children, who give hugs to each of the heroes (even the huge Barratorre and fierce Brom) and walk with the Green Witch.

Brom can see the trail is fading, but still follow-able in the dying light of day. The trail travels across the road and into the darkening woods.

Barratore had also forgotten what they were doing when the drinking and food had been brought up. The others were right of course and he follows their lead. Sunrise Song sounded a bit familiar to him, An adventuring group that was in the area. From the looks of the tower, it was sometime ago and from the Green Witch, perhaps a bit of a disappointment.

Kayleigh and the children go west along the road towards Witchspawn. The road to the east (the local knowledge folks know) go towards the main town of Cinnamon Valley, Jarlswolf. The road to the south is where the heroes came from.

And Brom can see the trail he is following goes north ... into the woods.

It takes the heroes only about 15 minutes before it is full dark, only Everburning torches and Baslim's Daylight spell keeping the ability to see (and be seen). 15 more minutes of travel through the open woods, and the Keepers find the remains of a campsite.

A quick check from Brom confirms he can't see any trail leaving the area.

Agreed. If we can't do any more tonight, might as well get some rest and try and be moving at sun up. I would suggest that we have at least two people on each watch. If we have been spotted, or the bad guy has figured out he is being followed, night time in the woods would be an ideal time for a sneak attack. Especially if he's gotten to any friends. I have a fully charged wand of darkvision that all may make use of. I will take first watch with Brom, and we will hand off the wand to the next watch.

Velarin then uses the wand to cast darkvision on himself and Brom.

Emrys prepares a comfortable spot near the fire layout his bedroll. He gracefully unfolds his blanket and removes a tiny, wrapped bundle of sweet smelling incense. The area around him fills with the sweet scent of lavender and sandalwood. However he still looks perturbed ... he is wanting something that he's missed since they were in the Floating City.

He casts a simple divination spell (leyline: 57. Casting Locate Object. Looking for his Mother Of Pearl snuffbox.)

Emrys immediately looks over in Lanliss' direction. A look of disappointment falls across his face. He gets up and walks over to Lanliss' backpack and opens up a side pouch. After reaching in, Emrys pulls out his missing snuffbox. "I suspected it was you, Lanliss, but I didn't want to believe it true. I've allowed you a good amount of time to return it, but tonight I MUST have a pinch ... if there is any of it left!"

And it was Summertime...

The heroes determine that camping right on top of the other campsite for the night.

Brom looks about and thinks the site has been abandoned for hours but less than a day. He also finds a small hollow tube, the kind Evaris or Velarin would keep a scroll.

Talk goes to watches and Rings of Sustenance, and Evaris offers a 'Heroes Feast'for the team.

The other conversation is between Emrys and Lanliss. It is cordial, it is reconciliatory, and then it is over. The silver snuff box is returned, both heroes agree that Cinnamon Valley is much better than Floating City, and there is a solemn promise for no more ltouching each other's stuff without permission! :-)

The night passes peacefully. Only once does everyone wake to the sound of thunder. How far off? They may sit and wonder. Maybe start humming a song from '62. And wonder how the night moves....

Brom locates the tube and hands it to Velarin. "Found this. Maybe yur seeing spell can find the owner." He says.

Brom wakes the next watch then beds down after taking off his armor. After a few hours, he is awake again and donning the armor. He sits quietly in the night staring out into the darkness. The sound of thunder breaks up the night and the barbarian eyes gaze towards the night sky as he tries to determine direction and speed of the incoming storm.

As the sun pops up in the morning, Velarin arises as quickly as possible, and rouses those that are not already up. We need to get a move on. Our quarry seems to rest some by day, and move by night based on what Brom knows of the campfire, so we have to keep pushing. It would be ideal if we could catch up to him today. Brom wakes and wonders, and determines the storm is mostly going to miss the team.

And several heroes sing snippets of songs by the popular bard, Cigar Bob and the Silver Slingbullet Band.

Just before dawn, the rain begins to come down in a steady drizzle. Thunder is in the distance to the north, and the rain appears to be more heavy in that direction too.

Sadly, even in full light of day, Brom can't find any trail. The heroes seem to be at an impasse.

Scry is not in my capabilities either, but it seems like a good idea if someone will do it.. I will cast detect magic though, and look around the area, hoping to see that which may be magically hidden.

Edson looks about and can't find any traps.

Velarin looks about, carefully quartering the campground and looking for magic auras in a 60 degree cone (taking 36 seconds to move in the entire circle). He doesn't see any magic auras and any lingering auras from the night before are long gone.

Baslim and Velarin both admit they can't do divination much.

Evaris, Edson, and Lanliss agree that the Witch Coven may be able to provide the divination the heroes seek.

Velarin raises a spock like eyebrow as Brom begins his jest and allows him to finish. "Inconceivable! that you could doubt me my friend. Have you no respect for the massive physical wonder before you?" says V as he rolls up his sleeves and smiles as he shows off his less than worthy biceps. "But seriously? If the scry doesn't work, we are losing ground. The only spell I have capable of finding people is a locate person, but I need to know the person."

"As a thought? why would the big bad guy come all the way to this location if he had a magic scroll for transport? I would suggest a couple courses of action while Emrys and Evaris attempt to scry. Perhaps if it was a scroll, it would be simple. Perhaps something to hide tracks left behind. it might be smart for Brom to take a wide circle look around the area to see if the tracks are farther out. Second, As another unlikely but possible alternative, perhaps there is something invisible in the area...I will cast see invisibility and take a look around. Other than that, I'm running out of bright ideas.

Evaris attempts to Scry and knows that the previous owner of the scroll tube has resisted the Scrying spell.

It appears that going to the Witches is the only option until Brom comes back from his search of the nearby woods. Brom didn't see any tracks, but he did happen to come upon a hill in the woods that was bare except for some carved stones standing upright in a circle....

The morning continues it last steady drizzle from gray clouds as Brom shows the others what he has found.

Barratore tells the barbarian to lead o while Edson watches to see what may be found

Baslim suggests if nothing is found here then they should go back to the Witches, and Evaris thinks there may be an underground lair. You know, like last time.

Lanliss and Brom check the surroundings but there is no sign or mark they see that would show any trail. In fact, Brom hasn't been following a trail since last night.

Velarin thinks on his great and varied knowledge. He knows that in the Wold, there are points of power, nexuses that Witches would call nodes; where Ley Lines cross. Often, these places of power are marked in some way. Further, he remembers hearing something about a ring of standing stones near Witchspawn that has been used for power rituals in the past. This is probably the Stones in his stories. The elf casts a detection spell, and can see his knowledge is true; the Stones themselves glow strongly with a universal magic!

Emrys can feel it like goose bumps all over his skin. There is power here.

Well, I'm not seeing too much beyond what I have shared to give us a new direction. Either we go speak with the coven, or test these stones out a little. I could step into the middle of the ring, and see if anything happens. It appears to be based in magic and spell casters would be most likely to activate something or get an effect

So basically we might try to use the stones to ask help from witches ?
Lanliss asks Velarin, while trying to play with the stones to trigger some magical effects.

He then proceeds to sing a song in the halfling language, a song about a halfling lost in the wood and playing it's rhythm on one of the stones in a rather amateurish way.
Lanliss then will stop at the end and say in loudly happy tone in Halfling, Help us oh great witches !

"Ok, so it's a big magical power place." He says somewhat disappointed. Like Barratore, he didn't much care for magic and certainly magical places. Unless it was a magical brewery, then he'd be okay with that.

"I'd rather prefer a demon." He says responding to Edson's comment.

Lanliss begins to do his thing, and Brom turns a watchful eye to him and the stones.

If nothing happens, he says "So, off the see the witches, the wonderful witches of Witchspawn?" He says and for some unknown reason he feels the need to click his booted heels together.

Emrys has been rendered speechless for some time since entering the standing stones. Almost entranced, somewhat euphoric ... he finally mutters, "There is ... great power here! Can't you feel it? Oooh, I feeels it! The sensation is beyond description ... even for one such as I. Can you not FEEL it? Wait, we can not leave it ... oh no, not yet!"

Emrys sits in the center of the circle and begins to remove items from his backpack. He whispers a few minor arcane words and incense begins to smoke and give off an exotic fragrance (leyline: 36. Prestidigitation, to create a spark to ignite the incense.).

"Here sit for a short while ... have something to eat and drink, this could take a short while."

Emrys begins to chant greater words of power, loud at first, then softer and deeper. The sweet scent of blood and the musty odor of deep, moist soil mixes with the air. Emrys taps into the mystical roots of memory and forgotten lore.

Most of the heroes are a little disappointed that all it is is a circle of Standing Stones.

Velarin suggests to try activating the stones.

Lanliss tries to activate the Magic available, and he does get the one stone to start glowing a light blue...

Emrys doesn't hesitate. He walks into the middle of the Stones and prepares to cast a spell but never gets the opportunity. As soon as the elf sits down, there appears a satyr sitting across from Emrys. He wasn't there on le moment, and now he is, sitting cross-legged and glowing faintly the same color as the Stone Lanliss was playing with.

"Nah nah, man. You don't have the Stones to cast spells here. But you got the ladies attention, that you did. So before you leave the ladies nemed, since I'm here, is there something I can help you with?"

Evaris's magic is different from Emrys's, but he doesn't doubt for a moment what his friend is reporting. "A place of great magic," he murmurs, and then is startled by the appearance of a satyr.

"Perhaps we should have accepted that dinner invitation after all," he says, but watches to see how this turns out.

Velarin watches Emrys with interest, initially curious as to whether the spell cast here may be extra powerful, until he is surprised by the appearance of the Satyr. He is about to answer him until Barratore responds with a succinct and to the point response.

"I believe that about covers it Barratore." Velarin turns to the satyr and adds "We tracked them to right near here, where they and their tracks disappeared. A scroll tube was left behind, and they are able to use magic to prevent scrying.

Edsons first reaction is to go for his weapon but he resists the urge. He was a city elf but part of him was always connected to the woods and nature.

He knew Satyrs were not inherently evil and were just more.mischevious. he calmly waited to see what transpired.

Barratorre speaks up, so does Velarin and Emrys. The blue glowing Satyr (very male) keeps sitting cross-legged within touching distance of Emrys who is also sitting in the middle of the Stones.

Velarin knows Emrys hasn't cast any spell.

Emrys instinctually knows that no amount of sweet talking is going to change the satyr's attitude, even if they stayed long enough to normally affect a conversation.

Evaris, Edson, and Baslim are less happy with witchy powers and fey creatures but are willing to wait and see what happens.

The Satyr raises its hands in a warding off gesture. "Hey, bombarded with questions, eh? So harsh But by the ladies, if I answer, you can go away, kapeesh?"

The Satyr stands and dances about the interior of the Stones and starts singing:

“ Lupine Lord of Cinnamon fame
A warehouse wooden will start the end game
Powers perverse I will not speak of
But young love’s lad will kiss the cheek of
A sign? Some words? Nay, don’t frown
See the sight at next sun down!"

He continues dancing about after he has stopped speaking. (Sense Motive DC 20 Highlight to display spoiler: { the Satyr is looking like he is watching the heroes to see if they can solve his riddle. } )

Brom listens to the satyr. Great riddles... He thinks. Brom puts some thought in to the riddle despite being annoyed by it. He thinks hard, but has no answer for the riddle. Evaris' answer seems good enough for him. Besides, thinking was not what he was good at.

Emrys smiles knowingly at the satyr after HE spoke his riddle. He notices that the satyr is attentively watching and assessing their scrutiny of his words ... however Emrys is certain there are more eyes watching them ...'we do have the Lady's attention after all.'

Emrys turns to Evaris with his knowing smile, now more smirk-like, "Evaris, you are quite astute. Jarlwolf does sound correct." (Knowledge [Local]: 20) "And we do know of a merchant from Jarlwolf, one who does business with the various caravans throughout the region ... a dwarf named Riverstone. Maybe you remember him, he attended our party just the other day. He maintains several warehouses in Jarlwolf ... he bragged about his vast inventory."

Edson stays outside of the circle, and scratches his chin in a show of thinking, but his brain is running at a hundred miles an hour and nothing is coming to mind.

I do seem to recall hearing of the warehouses. From the riddle, it seems to me that sparkle has possibly gone and found herself a boyfriend, possibly the other prisoner that Emrys saw in the first Scry. It seems this young man will be a victim sacrificed in some foul ceremony. The warehouse is only the starting point though. I'm guessing we will need to find a tunnel or such, that leads us underground.

How far from here is Jarlswolf?

All the talk about warehouses, wolves, and riddles makes Brom's head hurt. He racks his brain attempting to collect all the information and process it before his brain fries and he feels the need to destroy some to let off the mental strain. Brom and Baslim wait with different attitudes, waiting for the others to figure it out.

Barratorre tries to think about the local terrain, but he comes up a blank and soon waits as impatiently as the barbarian.

Edson suggests that with the 'next sundown' line, that wherever they need to go is less than a day away!

Evaris immediately jumps on the Lupine Lord must equal Jarlswolf, and Emrys and Velarin agree. In fact, the bard and wizard along with Lanliss remember that Jarlswolf has not one, but dozens of warehouses, mostly on the north edge of town, which is the starting point for caravans leaving Cinnamon Valley for Effacia and other locations in the Windbourne Hills. And yes, many of them are owned by the dwarven merchant, Dorik Riverstone who introduced himself with the Jarlswolf contingent during the heroes celebratory feast!

A quick reference to a map of Cinnamon Valley in several people's memory, and the heroes are sure Jarlswolf is only about 10 miles away. Getting back to the road and moving out, the heroes should get there by noon!

"Elf of the Culver, you are close but no cigar!" chortles the Satyr. "I am but a shape given to interact with mortals. And I do not serve one Lady, but the Sisters Four." He winks, and it is obvious he isn't going give any more information about that subject.

The slightly blue glowing Satyr gives a skip and hop. "Oh clever heroes, very clever! Now, I will tell you a secret and question. The secret is this: when it comes to knowledge given in situations where there are competing Immortal Powers, what one group is told, the other group can find out equal and opposing information. Now, knowing this, do you want me to explain any of the lines in the riddle?"

There is no more sensing; the Satyr has stopped dancing and is boldly looking at the heroes, his stance challenging and, you could say, curious.

Velarin looks to the others for agreement or disagreement. "I for one feel that we have likely figured it out enough to get us a good start, and track down those which we seek. If the Satyr gives us anything more or is more specific, our foes will also gain an advantage. I do not like the fact that immortal powers are involved in this, we are likely to face a very difficult foe, and any advantage we have will be a possibly needed one. Unless any are opposed, I say we head to Jarlswolf, and start to hunt down our prey, and they will likely be expecting company."

Barratore tries his best to follow the others as they talk and for the most part he thinks he has a handle on it. Jarlswolf and the northern area is where they needed to get.

The saytr, or the thing in the shape of a saytr, now had him a bit more unnerved as it spoke of immortal powers. The opposition would gain knowledge as the Keepers did . Somehow, Barratore felt the kind of information exchanged would not be equal. "I for one say we more and do so quickly."

Evaris asks "I assume next sundown is our deadline?" And the blue Satyr nods. "After that time, the riddle may no longer be accurate, champion of Domi." He looks at the elf sideways and winks. "Which is one reason the Powers tend to speak in riddles, no?"

Velarin suggests to ask nothing else of the Satyr, and get to Jarlswolf as quickly as possible.

Lanliss doesn't ask a question, but he thinks it real hard!

Barratorre doesn't like the implications, and wants to finish this quickly.

Baslim would like to know the opposition, but realizes that since the Satyr didn't freely give that information, the opponents don't know that either!

The 'Satyr' winks and disappears. And the Stones stop glowing blue.

The heroes are left alone in the gray morning light, slowly getting soaked in the misty rain.

Emrys pulls his hood up over his head. Irritated that the rain is causing his lovely locks to go limp. This distraction is hindering his ability to recall things he should know.

"The fact that this quest involves the Powers and their struggle for dominance of the valley is troubling. I also don't like the idea that we are being used as pawns. This tale involves the Sisters Four? Four! That doesn't sound right. The stories I know of the Sisters speak of three... triplets. Unless I've forgotten. Evaris, do you recall anything about the Sisters? Who's the fourth? Very odd. My father taught me about Mittiri ... one of the daughters of Alemi. Many druids once worshiped her. We should visit the temples in Jarlswolf and educate ourselves."

Barratore looks up into the rain for a bit and then opens his mouth and sticks out his tongue. Rain always tasted good. He closes his mouth and gazes as the others, a joke coming to his mind about wet taurs. It brings a smirk as he recalls the teller more vividly than the joke. She was fun. The group rustles about and gets ready to go and he snaps from his day dream

"I think we are heading toward her Shepard, not leaving her." He gives the man a gentle pat to the shoulder .

Having finished with the spirit satyr, and decided on a direction, he says "Jarlswolf? Yur all gonna have to dig deep on this. Gonna be a hard run to get there."

Brom takes a moment to gather his bearings and jogging towards Jarlswolf. He knew he could keep the pace up for some time, but he wondered if the others would be able to keep up.

Evaris and Emrys get into a little bit of questioning debate. Three Sisters or Four? The stories Emrys knows from Cinnamon Valley say Three, the Serenbeth Maidens, Donyra, Mittani, and Teresalia. But Evaris thinks about the common knowledge from a worldly and religious standpoint, and the history of Jancassis says she was one of the original Serenbeth Sisters along with Serenbeth, Jantierri, and Karinthis. The link is the word Serenbeth, but the rest of the words are a mystery. Why, not even the names are the same!

The heroes this misty morning, however, have a mission, and, led by Brom, they get out of the woods. And then Edson takes the scout position as they hustle along (double move not run, so no endurance checks) the road towards Jarlswolf and arrive just after noon along the west road.

Jarlwolf is the largest town in the Cinnamon Valley, and the seat of government for the area. Following the overthrow of the Jarl, the Pitchfork Council was formed and convenes in the Jarlwolf Assembly Hall.

Jarlswolf is at least 1,500 people not including transient merchants, peddlers, surrounding farms or crafts. The major place for trade and the seat of the Pitchfork Council, it also boasts the only WLA Outpost, Mailed Fist Recruiter, and one of two Catacombs entrance in the Valley.

Barratore looks at Emrys and Evaris oddly, 'Oh My' He then wheels on a hoof and jogs after Brom, which quickly slows to a pleasant walk. Coming into Jarlswolf gets Barratore's snout going, questing for the aroma of food. It had been several hours and there was that walk just now as well.

"So after some food and drink, where should we start. Not likely to get any tours of the warehouses anytime soon."
