Fight in the Alchemist's Cellar

The Tunnel in the Cellar (DM Cayzle)
Friday November 13th, 2015 9:04:03 PM

More details on the situation ...

The lab has two long workbenches set up on the two long walls. The glowing pool is in the far corner. The continual flame provides normal light everywhere except under the benches, where it is dim and offers concealment due to shadows.

You have a hunch that there are more rodents or other scurrying things in the lab than the ones you see.

The glass on the floor does not block movement, unless you have bare feet, in which case you are slowed at half speed if you wish to avoid the glass; or you can take 1 hp per ten ft moved if you walk ignoring the glass. If you trip or fall prone, you also take a hp of damage.

And here is the map: Alchemy Lab Battle Round 1. TADA!

The brown numbered round shapes are dire rats. The cluster of green dots are four tiny glowing rats. Only the dire rats can threaten adjacent squares.

Actions round by round, please. Recall that you can move through an ally's square with no problem; but you cannot end move in an occupied square. Also keep the rules for Attacks of Opportunity in mind!

Pesmer Zerase (Ryan W.) HP: 8/8 AC:12/12/10  d4+1=5 ;
Friday November 13th, 2015 9:18:34 PM

Seeing only the dire rat 30 feet in front of him, Pesmer chants his magicks in elvish as he lets loose a magic missile against the furry creature, doing 5 points of force damage against the nasty vermin. He can see the faint glow of something in the room but doesn't know what source of substance could make such a color or effect.

Koh Shatterhorn (Alex F.) HP: 13/13 AC/TCH/FF: 14/13/12 CMB: +4 CMD: 16
Friday November 13th, 2015 9:24:36 PM

Koh can't do much from all the way in the back - or see much. At the very least, though, she should have a better time walking on glass with hooves instead of feet.

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 5/9 AC: 13/12/10 CMB: +4
Friday November 13th, 2015 9:40:01 PM

Stohp notes the light of Pesmer's spell and guesses a battle is starting. Shoving past everyone in front of her would be... rude. And probably painful for everyone involved. So she waits, putting out the torch since there seems to be plenty of light.

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 10/10 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13  d20+7=10 ;
Saturday November 14th, 2015 2:17:24 PM

Agrippa ducks as a painful light strikes at a rat in front of the party. She senses the tension from behind her, and will attempt to move out of the way of the Taurs and into the room.

(Acrobatics: 10 >_<) As she squeaks around Roland, she didn't expect to see two other rats so close to her, and in her attempt to move out of the way, will provoke two attacks of opportunity from rat 1 & 2.

If both attacks miss, she will continue to do her terrible acrobatics to G2 (also provoking from Rat 4), but if she is struck even once, she will end her movement at H3.

Roland (Andrew Z.)   d20+3=9 ;
Sunday November 15th, 2015 7:53:21 PM

Seeing Agrippa rushing into the fight, Roland takes a 5 foot step into the room and swings his hammer down onto rat 1, missing it in the confusion

Micah (John) HP: 10/10 AC: 17/10/17
Sunday November 15th, 2015 9:46:00 PM

Micah releases his readied power on Roland as he attacks (+1 to hit, making his roll a ten).

He then moves into the room directly into the square directly before Rat 4 (H3), moving diagonally from the square of Roland's original position. (This should provoke from Rat 1). If Agrippa ends up in H3, he will then go into G2.

Norr (David S.) HP: 18/18 AC: 18/11/16 CMB :+5
Monday November 16th, 2015 9:21:39 AM

Norr shuffles past Pesmer awkwardly, ending up in Agrippa's starting position.

Micah (John) HP: 10/10 AC: 17/10/17
Monday November 16th, 2015 10:05:06 PM

Despite the bustle and confusion of all rushing to attack, Micah keeps his calm as he strives to give his allies room to attack while pressing his own his own offensive against these baneful vermin.

Roland (Andrew Z.)
Tuesday November 17th, 2015 12:25:07 AM

Roland quickly looks around the room to gain his bearings and analyze the situation. He is worried if the small glowing rats in the room, knowing that their bites must be worse than a normal rats. He worries for Agrippa, seeing her run into the fray makes sure he stays close by to protect the lightly armored rogue

Koh Shatterhorn (Alex F.) HP: 13/13 AC/TCH/FF: 14/13/12 CMB: +4 CMD: 16
Tuesday November 17th, 2015 12:44:21 AM

Koh still doesn't have much room to maneuver since she's at the back.

Pesmer Zerase (Ryan W.) HP: 8/8 AC:12/12/10  d8=2 ;
Tuesday November 17th, 2015 12:54:54 AM

Pesmer watches his comrades race into the room one by one, doing his best to give anyone room for those who wish to move past him. He figures he probably should let the heavy hitters wander into the room first before he steps in.

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 10/10 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13  d20+5=12 ;
Tuesday November 17th, 2015 2:22:34 AM

Agrippa will also try to find points of entry into the room other than the way we came in (Perception: 12). She's guessing there might be a hole or two under the desks, or that puddle. Either way, she's prepared for more to come out.

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 5/9 AC: 13/12/10 CMB: +4
Tuesday November 17th, 2015 7:57:55 AM

Stohp waits patiently for everyone to shuffle off the stairs.

ROUND ONE RESULTS

[OOC: As this combat begins, all creatures are aware of each other, none are surprised, and none are flat-footed. The heros go first, and then the enemies go.]

[OOC: ALL posts must include current and max hit points, AC, and resources used, such as spells and chennels per day, etc. Also, ALL headers must include a link to a current PC Sheet. I'm looking sternly at you, Roland!]

Group Actions

Pesmer fires a magic missile at Dire Rat 3, inflicting 5 damage and staggering it.

Koh does not act.

Stohp also chooses not to act. [OOC: You posted, "Shoving past everyone in front of her would be... rude. And probably painful for everyone involved." As a point of fact, rude I leave you to judge, but it does not harm an ally if you walk through their square. The rules say, "Friend: You can move through a square occupied by a friendly character, unless you are charging. When you move through a square occupied by a friendly character, that character doesn't provide you with cover."]

Agrippa enters and moves to the right (north). She is unlucky, and leaves herself open to two bites, from rats 1 and 2, and one lands home. Agrippa takes 3 damage! AND must make a DC`11 fort save vs disease. NOTE: Agrippa, you have only taken a move action this round (even moving carefully through the glass), and you therefore have a standard action left to you this round.

Roland steps into the room, swings, and misses.

Micah buffs Roland, then moves into the room, drawing an AoO from Rat 4 (Rats 1 and 2 have already used their only AoOs this round on Agrippa). Rat 4 misses.

Norr moves up past Pesmer.

Enemy Actions

Dire Rat 1 attacks Roland, hitting AC14 for 2 damage if that's a hit.

Dire Rat 2 attacks Roland, hitting AC7 (for 2 damage), but that is definitely a miss.

Dire Rat 3 limps away under a table.

Dire Rat 4 bites at Micah, hitting AC18 for 2 damage, plus save vs disease, DC11.

Glow Rats 1-2 take five ft steps into Rolands square and attack him. They hit AC16 and 24 (the latter is a crit threat but not a crit) for 2 hp and 3 hp damage. They have super sharp teeth for such tiny things. We really need your AC, Roland!

Glow Rats 3-4 take five ft steps into Agrippa's square and attack her. They hit AC6 (a miss) and AC21 for 1 hp damage.

Glow Rats 5-8 take double moves to enter the spaces of Agrippa and Micah this round. They provoke AoOs from Micah, Roland, Agrippa, and Norr (one each please unless you have Combat Reflexes). They will attack next round.

AND THE MAP!

The Tunnel in the Cellar (DM Cayzle)
Tuesday November 17th, 2015 11:44:02 AM

PS: Friends, be sure to keep your hp total up to date in your header.

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 6/10 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13  d20+3=23 ; d20+3=22 ; 2d4+2=10 ; d20+5=25 ; d20+3=18 ; d4+1=4 ; d20+7=9 ; d20+2=15 ;
Tuesday November 17th, 2015 11:51:29 AM

She finds an opening as the rats attempt to swarm her. Using her regular dagger, she strikes at one of the glowing rats, shouting, "In the name of cleanliness~!" (attack of opportunity on Rat #5: critical hit; 10 damage)

Agrippa notices that the Taurs will have trouble entering at this rate. She tries to find the area that dire rat 3 limped away into (Perception: 25 + dark vision). If she finds it, she will use the withdraw action to move adjacent to (or in front of) that disabled rat. This movement would still provoke an attack from dire rat #4, but not from the smaller rats.

If she can't see it anymore (it only got one move action, right?), she'll attempt to strike the dire rat next to her (#4) and move away using acrobatics. ((Forgot to fight defensively) Attack roll: 18; 4 damage) (Acrobatics: 9 again...) this action would likely provoke attacks from dire rat 4 and the rats in my square as I attempt to move to E3.

(Fortitude save: 15 success)

Stohp (Mitch) HP: 8/9 AC: 13/12/10 CMB: +4
Tuesday November 17th, 2015 1:28:35 PM

(While I know rule wise she can totally walk all over everyone in front of her without damaging them, RP wise it felt rather rude so she decided not to. The image of an 800 lbs Minotaur lady squeezing down the steps, apologizing for stepping on - and breaking - other peoples toes, while amusing, seems a bit out of character for her :P.

Also someone healed everyone 3 hp in the GG basement, and I forgot to bump my hp. I have done so now.)

Stohp advances to behind Pesmer, still unable to really see what's going on. The stairs creak ominously under her weight and that of the other taurs, and she nervously glances at them. She somehow doubts that they're made for a couple tons of weight, they certainly don't look so to her experienced eye for woodwork.

"Get out of the way guys before these stairs break under us!" she calls ahead.

Norr (David S.) HP: 18/18 AC: 18/11/16 CMB :+5  d20-1=15 ; 2d6+3=12 ; d20-1=15 ; 2d6+3=7 ; d20-3=11 ;
Tuesday November 17th, 2015 7:05:36 PM

Norr swipes at glow rat 6 as it makes its move and hits! (attack roll of 15, dealing 12 damage)

He looks over what he can of the field and decides to stay put and on the offensive, attacking dire rat 1 twice. The ax slash alone makes contact with the vermin. (Attack rolls 15 and 11, damage 7.)

Micah (John) HP: 10/10 AC: 17/10/17  d20+4=5 ; d20+2=7 ; d20+2=8 ;
Tuesday November 17th, 2015 8:34:30 PM

(Fort 5 fails)
Micah is hard pressed by the squealing pests. His attacks are unsuccessful, but he is confident his allies can enter and put them all to rest once the are able to join into the fray.

(AoO misses; main attack misses)

Tuesday November 17th, 2015 11:52:20 PM

Koh is waiting for a chance to get in, sticking behind Stohp.

Roland Gibbs (Andrew) HP: 12/15 AC: 18 Touch: 11 FF: 17  d20+4=18 ; d10+3=4 ; d20+4=17 ; d10+3=7 ;
Wednesday November 18th, 2015 12:33:10 AM

Seeing the rats skitter past him, Roland will take his attack of opportunity to rat 7, hitting it for 4 dmg.

Turning his attention back to the dire rat he tried to hit previously, Roland lines his swing and brings his hammer crashing down onto dire rat 2 for 7 damage

ROUND TWO RESULTS

Group Actions

Agrippa downs Glow Rat 5 as it approaches and stabs Dire Rat 4 for 4 damage, severely wounding it. She notes that the Glow Rat was hard, as if its fur were made of some strong substance. [OOC: The glow rats have Damage Resistance 5.]

Then Agrippa moves, provoking four AoOs. These hit ACs 2, 16, 24 (crit threat fails to confirm), and 21. Agrippa takes 4 hp damage as she makes her move.

Agrippa does not see the escaped wounded rat, but she does see a tunnel in the wall under the table to the north.

Koh and Stohp move up behind Pesmer.

Pesmer fails to act.

Reaching over and around Roland, Norr downs Dire Rat 1 and Glow Rat 6. [OOC: In the future, we can worry about whether allies act as soft cover for enemies, and whether attacking around a corner affects cover, etc.]

Micah swings and misses.

Roland hits a Glow Rat, but the blow bounces off the beast's supernaturally touch fur. On the other hand, his subsequent blow lays low Dire Rat 2.

Enemy Actions

Dire Rats 1-3 are fled or dead.

Dire Rat 4 bites at Micah, hitting AC17 for 4 damage.

Glow Rats 1-3 snap at Roland. They hit ACs 22 and 15, hitting once for 2 damage!

Glow Rats 3-4 move five ft and also attack Roland. They hit ACs 19 and 14, inflicting 1 more hp damage.

Glow Rats 5-6 are down. Rats 7-8 attack Micah. They hit ACs 13 and 9, missing both.

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 2/10 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13  d20+3=5 ;
Wednesday November 18th, 2015 5:52:27 PM

"Micah, hol' still!" Agrippa shouts as she takes aim with her silver dagger. She throws it at one of the rats biting him (attack roll: 5), and it clatters anti-climatically against the ground. "Nobody saw tha', alrigh'?" Shanking her head, she uses her remaining time to kick what glass is near her to the entrance of the tunnel with her boots. The adrenaline keeps her from noticing the pain of the bites for now.

"Rolan', step outa the way o' the doorway~" Agrippa gasps while kicking glass.

(Ooc: I either roll above a 15, or below a 4, don't I? *glares at dice*)

Pesmer Zerase (Ryan W.) HP: 8/8 AC:12/12/10
Wednesday November 18th, 2015 6:13:18 PM

(Spells used up for today: Shield and Magic Missile. Uses Magic Weapon now.)

Pesmer snaps out of the daze he was in; Seems that magic missile took more out of him then he would have believed. Hearing Stohp behind him, Pesmer 5 foot steps forward so he is right behind Norr. "Norr, can you move down the stairs any further?" He was having a hard time seeing past Norr but he could tell Roland was surrounded by furry rats.

Deciding to help the best he can, he grabs Norr's attention quickly as he touches the Minotaur's weapon (Battleaxe I believe), casting Magic weapon upon the cold steel. "This will make your weapon stronger." He tells Norr, giving the weapon a +1 to hit and +1 to damage for 1 minute.

Micah (John) HP: 4/10 AC: 17+2/10+2/17+2  d20=2 ;
Wednesday November 18th, 2015 10:41:54 PM

Micah is frustrated that he let himself become overwhelmed by these vicious vermin. He is no good to his allies if he drops unconscious and can not use his healing gifts for their benefit.

He guardedly attacks rat 4 then moves away from the glowing rats protectively standing before Agrippa.

(Fighting defensively with a five foot step to F3.)

Roland Gibbs (Andrew) HP: 9/15 AC: 18 Touch: 11 FF: 17  d20+3=10 ;
Wednesday November 18th, 2015 11:08:35 PM

Roland takes a 5 foot step to G3, hoping to allow the rest of the party to make their way into the room. He swings his hammer at glowing rat 3 but misses as he goes

Norr (David S.) HP: 18/18 AC: 18/11/16 CMB :+5  d20+4=17 ; 2d6+4=11 ;

"Aye. Looks like room there.." Norr steps off the staircase, stopping almost immediately after reaching sturdier ground.

He then uses his full range of motion to swing the now enchanted ax at dire rat 4. (Attack roll 17, damage 11)

ROUND THREE RESULTS

Group Actions

Micah swings, misses, and steps away. Two AoOs vs Micah miss as he steps away from the Glow Rats.

Agrippa swings and misses too.

Pesmer steps forward and buffs Norr's weapon.

Norr moves into the room, opening himself to the last dire rat as he does so. It misses, and Norr does not! He swings his Pesmer-enhanced weapon and kills the last dire rat.

Koh and Stohp move up some more. Stohp notices the alchemist in his bathrobe watching from behind her.

Roland swings, misses, and takes a five ft step forward.

Enemy Actions

Glow Rats 1-2 follow Roland. They hit ACs 15 and 10, both missing.

Glow Rats 3-4 and 7-8 move five ft and attack Norr. They hit ACs 10, 9, 21, and 17. Norr is hit once for 1 hp damage.

(Perception and Sense Motive Checks to try to figure out what the alchemist is up to.)

Still unable to see well down the stairs and past her sister, Stohp decides to stay where she's at and guard their back. She doesn't trust the alchemist and keeps her eye on him.

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 2/10 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13  d20+3=7 ;
Thursday November 19th, 2015 1:30:17 PM

Agrippa moves back to G2 where her silver dagger was dropped. She forgot to mention before,"Use yer silver weapons on the glowin rats."

(ooc: can you flank a tiny creature?)

Agrippa attempts to pry a rat off of Roland, but the chaos of movement makes that too difficult (attack roll : 7).

Norr (David S.) HP: 18/18 AC: 18/11/16 CMB :+5
Thursday November 19th, 2015 6:07:25 PM

Norr sheathes his ax and draws the silver 'long'sword, readying himself for the glowing menace...

Pesmer Zerase (Ryan W.) HP: 8/8 AC:12/12/10  d20+2=15 ; d6=1 ;
Thursday November 19th, 2015 7:03:44 PM

(I don't believe such small creatures can take attacks of opportunity but..Well, here we go..
Physical increase to strength due to transmutation. This bonus is always going to strength until otherwise noted.)

Seeing an opening into the room, Pesmer slips past Koh as he moves himself to the right, heading up to H2 where he stands in the corner with Quarterstaff in hand. Seeing both Norr and Roland being chewed at by little glowing rats, Pesmer attempts to give one of the glowing vermin nipping at Roland a good solid smack from his staff. (Hit with a 15 against one of the glowing rats. The damage is 3 instead of 1 because I forgot to add 2 from strength modifier before rolling.)

Roland Gibbs (Andrew) HP: 9/15 AC: 18 Touch: 11 FF: 17  d20+4=6 ;

Roland swings at the glowing rat nipping him at his feet, missing terribly

The Tunnel in the Cellar (DM Cayzle)
Thursday November 19th, 2015 10:22:34 PM

OOC: I'm assuming that since a tiny creature can attack a target in its own square, then it also threatens its own square. So if you are in a square with a tiny foe, and you leave the square with a move action, then you are "leaving a threatened square" and provoke an attack of opportunity doing so as you depart. Standard caveats for five ft steps and the withdraw action.

Micah (John) HP: 4/10 AC: 17+2/10+2/17+2  d8+1=3 ;
Thursday November 19th, 2015 10:24:28 PM

Micah moves further into the cellar to make room for his larger allies (5-step to D3).

Seeing the serious nature of Agrippa's wounds he calls upon his god to provide her healing (spontaneously cast CLW using prepared Command spell for 3 points).

Koh Shatterhorn (Alex F.) HP: 13/13 AC/TCH/FF: 14/13/12 CMB: +4 CMD: 16  d20+2=20 ; d8+3=5 ;

ROUND FOUR RESULTS

Group Actions

Stohp turns to see the alchemist actually and sincerely (she senses) weeping. He is upset and worried.

Micah steps next to Agrippa and restores 3 hp to her.

Then Agrippa moves next to Roland, attacks and misses.

Norr puts away his ax and gets out his silver sword.

Pesmer enters the fray next to Agrippa, lands a blow ... but it is ineffectual against the creature's stony fur.

Roland swings and misses.

Koh swings a mighty fist and hits ... but her five hp of damage is entirely negated by the stony fur's damage reduction.

Enemy Actions

Emboldened by the party's ineffectual flailing, the Glow Rats attack with renewed eagerness!

Glow Rats 1-2 follow Roland. They hit AC19 for 2 damage and AC6, a miss.

Glow Rats 3-4 and 7-8 attack Norr. They hit ACs 8, 22, 15, and 17. Norr is hit once for 3 more hp damage.

Friday November 20th, 2015 6:49:45 PM

(Spells used up: Magic Missile, Shield and Magic Weapon. Uses left of Telekinetic Fist: 6/7)

Huffing that his quarterstaff did no damage to the hairy little rodent, Pesmer decides to use his alternate means of attack. Summoning energies within his hand, he lets out a telekinetic assault against one of the glowing rats attacking Roland. (Taking the -4 to my attack due to using a ranged touch attack against a creature in melee combat.) If a 13 to the glowing rats touch ac hits, the creature takes 3 points of force damage.

Agrippa (Jacob) HP: 5/10 AC: 16.(t)13.(ff)13  d20+3=5 ;
Friday November 20th, 2015 9:00:36 PM

Agrippa feels Micah's hand and warmth bathes a wound. "Domi's warmth is mos' welcome," she pants as she picks up her silver dagger and attempts, once again, to pry a rat off of her friend (Attack roll : 5). It must be the stale air, she thinks to herself as the rat's reflexes get the better of her own.

Letting loose with a flurry of blows, Koh keeps attacking Roland's rats. Kick punch! One connects solidly, the fact that they have a resistance to her a bit perturbing.

His blade strikes true, but Norr has difficulty both seeing the small rat and goring it at the same time, and just hits the floor with his horn.

While moving next to Norr [E3] Micah shouts, "Pesmer, if your magic blows do not hurt these cursed glowing rats, destroy the dying rats. I can summon healing, but I cannot deflect it from healing all of them, too, even though they're unconscious".

He then touches Norr, calling upon Domi to grant him Battle Rage.

Pesmer thrusts with a burst of telekinesis, but misses. [OOC: Touch AC and regular AC are both 14. +2 dex, +2 size]

Micah buffs Norr, granting +1 damage to the taur next round.

"These small glowing one's are more of a pain than their drunken brothers!" Pesmer grumbles out as his blast attack misses. Maybe he really should have picked up a silver dagger or some such...

Deciding to switch back to his Quarterstaff, he would smack one of the glowing rats on Roland in the hopes he could bypass the damage reduction.

(Do I get a +2 from flanking since Norr is threatening adjacent to the rats that are on Roland?)

Swinging down his quarterstaff against the furry vermin, he possibly hits doing 6 points of damage. (12 if no flanking, 14 with flanking.)

One last rat, at a single hp, uses the withdraw action to escape. Norr, you only may take an AoO on it.

Slipping through the cracks of the party, Pesmer approaches the large puddle of glowing goop in the corner of the room, ever so curious as to discover its properties. Rielbel thanks you all profusely, and offers you some things he has saved for a rainy day ... a wand of Reduce Person with 23 charges left and four potions of Hide From Animals.

Meanwhile Pesmer looks hard at the glowing pool. The alchemist joins him. Together, the arcanists deduce that some odd combination of spilled potions has created a poison that slowly turns you to stone. But the rats, while you are only partway stone, gained a kind of stoneskin and sharp stone claws. It also looks like it has some mind-affecting properties, increasing aggression and removing inhibitions.

Citing his expertese and the lack of experience you have, the alchemist flat our refuses to allow experimentation.

"Oh no, you do not understand the danger. I would not perform any experiments with this poison myself. The only solution is to neutralize it. I am responsible for this mess, and I have to fix it."

"But I am so very grateful to you young men and women. You have reminded me that doing things for others is a noble calling. Let me know if ever I can do for you, as you have done for me."

Meanwhile, Agrippa is searching for tunnels. She sees the one big one, and finds several much smaller ones, those maybe carved out by the green glow rats. The one big one might be headed in the direction of the Giggling Ghost ... maybe the best way is to explore, but some survival checks to determine north might help too.

On the other hand, others in the party seem disinterested in the tunnel, and would prefer to head back to the Ghost by the easy route, above ground.

Roland and Agrippa stay here in the ruined lab.

Pesmer says farewell to the alchemist and heads for the exit to the street. Koh, and likely Stohp too, we'll assume, follow him.

Micah wants time to pray.

Norr waits for Micah, then follows Pesmer.

Agrippa waits to give Pesmer, Micah, and the three minotaurs time.

Those five head to the street, then to the Ghost (where a party seems to be shaping up, by the way), then to the wine celler to the tunnel entrance.

Agrippa heads into the tunnel, Roland at guard behind her.

She heads in. It is a tight fit, sure, but she wriggles in.

Is she using a light source, or just her darkvision?

If only darkvision, then she sees that the tunnel goes about 20 feet back to the Giggling Ghost. Hi guys!

BUT she also notes that there is a side tunnel that heads off in a different direction! It goes about 10 feet and then turns. She has not entered this side passage.

If Agrippa has a source of light, then Highlight to display spoiler: {She sees a trail of very fresh blood going from the lab and down the side tunnel, probably from the rat that dragged itself away.}

OOC: I'll likely post again once Agrippa posts what she does next. Also, is Agrippa being sneaky? No light helps that! Also Stealth checks.

(Stealth Roll: 19) Trying to remain as quiet as possible while wiggling around in the tunnel, she finds the turn that the rats must have fled through. She can imagine a blood trail going down the tunnel somewhere, but doesn't want to risk having a light to see it. Agrippa is relying on her darkvision as she sees another turn. She thinks to herself, This could very well lead into the same house if the turn is only 10 feet away. Better make sure before reporting back.

She crawls to the turn and pokes a head around a corner (Perception: 12 (or the one I rolled last post)).

Agrippa finds that the side passage turns and angles until it opens into a sewer. The 7 ft diameter sluiceway would allow a medium creature to walk upright, and even a large once could squeeze through. The sewer goes two ways. Agrippa is quite sneaky, and she sees a few rats (just normal ones) here and there. No sign of dire rats or glowing rats.

Roland at one end of the other tunnel and Pesmer, Micah, Koh, Stohp, and Norr at the other, all wait with whatever patience they can muster. They do not hear the quiet Agrippa.

Roland takes matters into his own hands with a call out to Agrippa. She hears it, and maybe she is glad there are no dangerous foes nearby to hear it too! :-)

If no one objects Stohp will take charge of the reduce person wand - we can use it to shrink the taurs and get them through the tunnel so we won't have to split up again. The Agrippa should get the potions to make the scouting she's doing safer.)

Hearing the call from Roland, Stohp face-palms and decides to give him a stern talking to on the concept of stealth. If he wasn't on the other side of the tunnel his yelling would have elicited a firm smack to the back of his head. Since he remains out of reach though, she just waits patiently with everyone else for Agrippa to return.

Good news though, if yer into chasin' em. There's another tunnel, an it's kinda wide. Even tall folk can duck their heads. Don' know about the horns though..."

In lieu of consuming charges from the wand we just received, Agrippa attempts to piece together her knowledge of the surrounding area to try and remember if there is an opening into the sewer near here. If so, it wouldn't be too hard to track those rats, as long as it isn't too far.

There is a side tunnel that bends down into a large sewer main. There would even be room for the Taurs.

A plan is discussed. [OOC: Please let me encourage the email conversation, but someone maybe could post an in-character recap?]

Agrippa thinks that this sewer may well be the same one the little boy showed you earlier. Squeezing down from the street may be just as hard, or harder, than entering this a-ways.

(Look under Use Magic Device, Stohp. I believe you must beat a DC 20 check in order to use a wand that casts a spell your character doesn't or cannot know. Here is a small bit from the Use Magic Device section: Use a Wand, Staff, or Other Spell Trigger Item: Normally, to use a wand, you must have the wand's spell on your class spell list. This use of the skill allows you to use a wand as if you had a particular spell on your class spell list. Failing the roll does not expend a charge.

You can use the wand if you make the DC 20 Use Magic Device check. I believe Pesmer can use the wand without the use of Use Magic Device and here is why;

Under the section of spell trigger for wands, it states: Spell Trigger: Spell trigger activation is similar to spell completion, but it's even simpler. No gestures or spell finishing is needed, just a special knowledge of spellcasting that an appropriate character would know, and a single word that must be spoken. Spell trigger items can be used by anyone whose class can cast the corresponding spell. This is the case even for a character who can't actually cast spells, such as a 3rd-level paladin. The user must still determine what spell is stored in the item before she can activate it. Activating a spell trigger item is a standard action and does not provoke attacks of opportunity.

This states that as long as my class is able to cast the spell, I can use the wand without actually having the spell in my spell book. Up to you DM. ^>^ )

Micah suggests tracking, and Agrippa does see a line of fresh blood, headed right.

Micah is not sure he could figure out the direction to the sewer opening you saw from the outside anyway (it would take Survival checks to sense direction.)

Pesmer makes it a priority to track the time so that the taurs do not expand unexpectedly.

You head to the right, and the sewer goes a good 100 feet. Pesmer taps the two Taurs again. (please track total charges. That's 4.)

The sewer is pretty foul. No wonder the rats carried disease. Ugh!

The sewer continues, but a big pile of refuse half-blocks it. It looks like a pile of casks, crates, and broken parts of crates. Looking up, it leads to a hole in the roof of the sewer.

Now she's once again the shortest person in the room, and it's reminding her of her homeland - not exactly happy memories. Add in the stink and general unpleasantness of sewers and you get a very sulky cow lady.

"Someone remind me how I got volunteered for this again? I'm trying to figure out who I should thawk upside the head." she grumps, gazing at the slippery, disgusting climb they'll probably have to endure.

Whispering back to reply to Roland, Pesmer's eyes dart somewhat back to Agrippa as he speaks to the group. Does the rats tracks lead us up through there or else where? Agrippa thought she was prepared for the atmosphere down here, but compared to this, the Trash Level smells like the billowing pollen of lillies. The sooner we track 'em, the sooner we can enjoy Happy's festivities, she thinks to herself. Remaining focused, she attempts to identify where the party is geographically under the Fence Level, and if they indeed are approaching that opening mentioned earlier (Survival = 20).

Upon finding the piles of broken barrels and refuse, Agrippa becomes curious. "This had to be placed ''ere, righ'? she asks openly. Keenly aware of how expensive charges are on wands, she will reserve searching it for a later time. At the moment, she'll make sure that what was left of the blood trail is evident on the hole in the ceiling (Perception = 19). If she doesn't see any, either way, they'll want to go through it and hold up for a while, so that the non-Taurs clear a path through the broken wood.

Norr is not sure this is wise. He sees that the sewer continues beyond the pile of crates, barrels, and broken stuff.

Agrippa feels that if you could rise through the ceiling like a ghost, you would likely be in the Lakeview Passage neighborhood.

She looks for more signs of passage, blood, etc -- and sees that this is a major trailway for rats of divers sizes.

Norr stows his shield and weapon, attempting the climb up the debris. He makes a decent attempt, despite his small frame. (climb 11)

"Koh has a rope, but she stayed behind. Did anyone else bring one, or should I run back to get hers?"

Rope? I have rope! Pesmer days excitedly as he quickly shifts through his backpack for his 50ft silk rope. Pulling it out and sealing his backpack back up while fastening his quarterstaff to it, he attempts to make the climb up to Micah. Failing so as he falls onto his rump, he decides to try a different approach. "Here you go Micah!" Aiming his best, Pesmer attempts to toss up one end of the rope to Micah in hopes that he would catch it. (21 dex check is what I guessed?)
