Scene 6 - Dolp's Cave

Round 7-9

The two ogres lie dead upon the floor. The bodies are searched, next steps are discussed. Sky and Meko move toward the door. Sharp eyes reveal nothing more than you see now.

Murphy casts Detect Magic in a cone that includes the ogres, and senses magic in the area. As the bodies are searched, the group finds that one of the ogres has a string of dried ears, and each dried ear has an earring in the lobe. Each ogre has 30 gp in valuable items, jewelery, silverware, etc.

Murphy suggests using wolf urine as a seasoning in their plan to explain the wolf. Pressi asks how they’ll explain the halflings.

Alleah checks the roasted halfling for signs of trauma. She sees that the skull has been bashed in, and it is skewered and tied to a spit. Gross. She says a prayer to Gargul for it’s soul.

Bliss laments the effect a door has on his sneaking. Bliss can see that the door would open away from him.

Pressi pulls out a gold skull and suggests that she do the talking.

If nothing complicated is needed, 3 rounds pass and Murphy’s (and perhaps others’) Detect Magic shows that there are no magic items on these creatures, but there is an aura of moderate-strength magic throughout the area.

"Thank you, Alleah," Murphy says with gratitude for her attendance on their deceased cousin. He figures most halflings are his cousins, at least of a distant sort, some way or another. "Hmmm - there is a mild evocation magic throughout this area. - I wonder whether it is some sort of desecration, but could be something else." He shrugs his shoulders, drops the detect magic spell, and uses his wand of cure light wounds to relieve 7 hp of the bruising damage he suffered from the giant's club. "It would be nice if the blood on the ogres were not visible, and it just looked like they were snoozing, should any come along."

He is fine with the others picking up the various treasure items (and please, someone, do so and let us know). Regarding the string of ears - can we tell the race(s) of those to whom the ears belonged?

The druid glances out the mouth of the cave to see who might be outside, and whether they seem to be paying any attention, and steps a few fee away from the door (AT18), which is set to open away from them. He takes the looped rope out of his backpack, says, "Anyone here who looks like a halfling, put a wrist through one of the loops. Pressi - we're under your charge. Try to have a blank look in your eyes, halflings. One of our goblins can hold the front of the rope. Pressi - can you open up, step through, tell those inside you are charged with rounding up the halflings for the marinade, and can they direct you to where they are, if any are left alive?

"Any invisibles can see about preventing people from leaving to go to other areas. Let's go with the ruse if we can, and fight if we can't. Also, if one or more are invisible, then nearby exploring may be good.

"Pressi - want to open up?"

Figuring all this takes more than one round, he taps himself a second time, curing another 5 hp damage. Unless more time is taken, he puts away the wand in his bandolier, and again holds out the looped rope for others to place their wrists through. If all this looks to take more than two rounds, he will use the wand a third time (6 hp, fully cured) before putting it away (so, either 60 hp, or 66 hp current).

Alleah silently nods to Murphy, and forces a small smile.

"Well, I'm going to trust in my goblin disguise for a little longer" she says to Murphy "And if anyone asks I'll just say that Knucklehead sent me to try and find some food"

"I'm not liking the idea of trying to convince these ogres to do anything. They're brutish monsters who deserve to have their heads separated from their bodies. I don't think communication is going to win this for us, and if we can take them by surprise then we should"

Alleah has hardened her position on the ogres having seen first hand how they treat halflings. "Maybe I could go in in disguise and try and get one of them to come out this way with me? Then we jump him?"

"Regardless, perhaps I can help see if there is anything awaiting us on the other side of the door though"

During the three rounds of concentration, Bliss (1) makes sure his bah is set with 5 bolts in the clip; (2) recasts Mookie's Reduce Person; and then (3) casts Cat's Grace on himself from a scroll. He tells Mookie to stick with Miss Alleah.

Bliss sighs. It is hard to be a subtlety specialist when the ranks of Woldly heroes are so dominated by the "bash and blast" school of adventuring. Even his old friend Miss Alleah has no head for sneakiness, as she just showed.

Well, Bliss is not sure what the plan is, but he gets ready to sneak into the room as soon as someone else opens the door. Looks like Sky is about to pull the door open.

"Okay, but if this whole thing goes belly-up," Bliss says, "I'm totally sneaking out of here if I'm the only one left standing."

He mutters under his breath: "Maybe my next group can be only heroes with decent stealth."

Pressi gives everyone else time to disguise, hide or lock themselves in handcuffs, wondering how she became the one who had to turn on the charm. "You know, Kezzem. You're going to have to do one of these someday. And if you choose to tell them you're searching for the well of allsparks, be sure to let me watch."

Activating her hat of disguise, Pressi shaped her clothes and features to better match the uniforms she has seen thus far. She also collected the various items, making sure to place the string of ears where the ogres had them. "Ok, let's do this."

She raises her hand to knock, thinks better of it, and tries opening the door. If it's unlocked, she simply opens the door, walking in as if she owned the place. If the door is locked, then she knocks.

Shel casts Invisibility on herself, not trusting her hands to be tied even by a fake rope.

She will help Murphy with the detecting magic and trying to determine what she could about that particular magic. OOC: everyone, please read the Knowledge Arcana spoiler as I made the roll. I can't read spoilers on my phone, so if someone would post it or email it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks. . She recognized it and filled the group in on what she could divine.

Round 10

Plans continue to be discussed by all.

Murphy looks at the string of dried ears, and they seem to be a mix of human, halfling and elf. There’s also one orc ear in the mix. Eww. His Detect Magic takes 3 rounds, then he pulls out his knotted rope, and heals himself once for 7 points. Murphy feigns being bound by the rope with the loops. Sky likewise puts his hands in loops.

Bliss checks his weapon, casts some spells, and laments the lack of subtlety and stealth of his companions, muttering that he’ll pick his next friends better.

Shel leaves nothing to chance and vanishes from sight. Then she casts Detect Magic and concentrates. She is pretty far from the door.

In her goblin disguise, Alleah casts Detect Thoughts, concentrating on the door. On the last round, she detects thoughts of some kind.

Kezzem searches the door for traps, and finds none.

Pressi considers adjusting her clothing, but she hasn’t really seen anything here resembling a uniform. She holds a rope, though only Murphy and Sky appear to be bound. Kezzem is standing there, and so is a great big wolf. Add to that a goblin and a tiny goblin.

Just as Pressi is in front of the door, it opens, surprising her! Standing before her is an orc in a messy apron that just opened the door. He holds a rusty cleaver. In orcish, Highlight to display spoiler: {”Hey. What’s going on here? Where are the ogres, and who the heck are you? A wolf? You better not have eaten the roast!”}

He has a hard time seeing past your group.

You hear some clattering noises in the background down the corridor.

Bliss, still disguised as a goblin child, makes a move action to AO15. He hopes his HiPS ability will let him sneak right by the orc. If it doesn't (because the orc's darkvision defeats it? Because there are not enough shadows?) then Bliss will hopefully still be able to use stealth with the "breaking cover" rule. If not, he may provoke an AoO by moving, and then his Mobility feat kicks in for AC34.

Actually, when Bliss sees the wolf about 35-40 ft ahead, he stops in square AP16. He is afraid of that wolf, especially, of its ability to sniff him out. He stays put there, assuming his HiPS seems to be working.

With his remaining action, Bliss readies a crossbow shot if an enemy pinpoints his location ... att at +16 for 1d6+5.

Sky just attempts to add to the bluff, but pulling out his bow and sending arrows into this orcs skull is what he really wants to do.

For a moment, Pressi stared at the orc. She wondered how on earth they were going to get past this one, especially since it was never clear why Dolp would be so interested in marinades.

Skye's outburst gave her something she was better built to do: yank on the cord hard. "Quiet, scum. Be thankful I don't just use your insides for spring cleaning."

She turned to the orc, all smiles and sunshine. For an orc. For those who speak orcish, Highlight to display spoiler: {Gift from cave 601. Home of popular anthem 'Screw em all not in cave 601.' (She paused as the other orc stared at her.) It sound better in Eastern Orcish. We bring great man Dolp latest recipe in halfling marinades. Wolf urine really brings out the maggot taste with hint of dire weasel and cinammon. Halfling marinade keep halfling fresher longer. Use on these two and see how fresh they are. Also, forget goblin there. She get hold of not meat. See gold sparkly skull. This mean something.}

Round 11

(Remember, folks roped up need to stick together. Not quite sure what Pressi is doing with the hero point. I guess the Charm was an item and not casting a spell? Save DC was 11? When using items or spells, please specify the save DC - I can’t be checking character sheets to try to guess at what’s going on.)

The area is dim light. There are candles and small pots of burning fat here and there.

Pressi attempts to charm the orc. There is some wailing and whining and sneaking. Bliss moves around and moves back when he sees a wolf.

The orc looks puzzled, but eventually frowns and shrugs. Alleah is ignored, as he addreses Pressi.

In orcish, Highlight to display spoiler: {”Don’t try any stupid tricks here. And why is there a goblin kid running around. It should be in a pen.

”Goblin’s useful? For smellin my farts maybe. Cave sexohwun? Marynade? What the heck are you talking about?

“Look, I dunno who you guys are, but you can take those into the kitchen. Careful with that wolf - they bite, you know. Wolf piss? You let it pee on any of the food an you’ll be licking it off. You can see if that thing will go with the others, just but keep it away from the food!”

Alleah sneers to the orc when it mentions the use for goblins. The Comprehend Languages spell she cast earlier allowing her to perfectly understand what was being said. A pity she doesn't speak orcish so she can't respond.

For the rest, Alleah nods along and tries to mimic the orcs actions, hands on hips and such "Yeah, take their weapons away you idiots"

Grinning, Alleah then says to the orc "Ogres also called us idiots when they ate that roast. Said they wouldn't share with orcs and goblins. They gone now."

She's trying to keep the orc from checking on the halfling that was roasting and thus seeing the ogres

[OOC: Let me try again to explain what I was doing in the last post. Pressi tries to bluff her way past. As insurance, Pressi tries to also charm him using an item (gift). The issue is that a bluff can be a free or a standard action in round by round movements, and using an item is a standard action. So I was letting you know that I would spend a hero point for extra action if needed. I'm assuming from your question that it is not, and am keeping it accordingly.

Item acts as charm person at CL1, so the DC is 11, and it looks like the orc beat it.]

Bliss remains where he is. He is afraid to go closer to the Wolf at AK9 because he is afraid it will smell him. Besides, it looks like his friends have bluffed their way past that orc. Bliss will wait for other halflings (his friends) to enter, because they may well mask his own halfling scent.

Meanwhile, he braces himself for attack (total defense) because you just never know.

Mookie still keeps his low profile with Alleah.

Pressi cringes as Kezzem continues to goof around, and uses a spell slot to boot. THIS was the reason she continuously found herself trying to be the bluffer.

Pressi shrugged to the orc. Highlight to display spoiler: {No concern of yours is my assistant. He had the misfortune of being born without smarts like us.} In common, "also, he's a deaf mute, so..."

She hated how the orc shook off the charm - it would have been nice to have him controlled for a fast exit - but at least he was letting them in. She slowly led the group down the hallway, towards the table that she presumed was the kitchen.

Murphy follows directly behind Pressi, looking pitiful. [Am not moving on the map until I see where she goes - when she moves on the map, go ahead and move him right behind.]

Only should the orc start making noises about the ogres, or voicing serious suspicions in a voice that carries, then the druid will send a lightning bolt upon his head for 9 hp electrical damage. However - if the orc does not, then Murphy does not. If the orc cook falls down laughing due to Kezzem's spell, he leaves him alone for the moment.

Round 12
Posted, but the site ate my rolls - you'll have to trust me.

The area is dim light. There are candles and small pots of burning fat here and there.

Alleah mocks the orc, and then tells him in common that the ogres ate the roast and ran away. With a crow on her shoulder, feelin’ kinda bolder, she moves 5 feet back. (You cannot make a 5’ step diagonally around a hard corner.) The orc can still see her as she draws a slender stick out of her gear.

Kezzem decides to cast a spell on the orc, and falls prone when the orc points at him. The orc is not amused.

Pressi leads the two bound halflings down the wide corridor. Murphy, Sky, and even the invisible Shel follow along. Meko follows too.

Bliss waits where he is. Because, you know, a wolf. (“Wolf at AK9” A K9 - good one.)

As Pressi and the others enter the kitchen, they see two giantesses in dirty aprons. There are also a couple of orcs and a few goblins nearby, along with food stores and cooking and carving implements. There are good and bad smells here, but mostly bad.

One of the giantess comes around the table, with sweat on her brow. Her hair is in a bun, but hanging down in places. She almost squeals with delight, “Oh look Beatrix! More food!” As she does, she smacks Murphy in the head with a meat hammer for 14 damage (hit AC 21). She looks shocked when he doesn’t fall.

Meanwhile, the orc at the doorway waits for the group to get out of his way and moves into the room, with a glance at Alleah and her crow. He has no idea what that stupid goblin with the stick is up to. He looks at the prone Kezzem. In orcish, Highlight to display spoiler: {“Hey! You idiots forgot one!”}

He mutters, Highlight to display spoiler: {“Oooh, they better nota et that roast! The’ll be hell to pay when…...Whoa! What happened here?}

He sees the bloody ogres, and his look of contempt turns to panic as he realizes that things are very, very wrong here.

Pressi's mind boggles as several of her teammates attack. Even if no reinforcements come, there are clearly too many of them to be fought against. Oh well....

As the giant woman who just bopped him on the head spoke in common, Murphy tells her in common, "Don't prepare the food too early. You forgot the live marinade. Just for that, you get roasted." Murphy sends an electrical pulse from call lightning (13 hp) against her, centered on AR12. He lets the rope fall to the ground as he steps to AO13.

To the other giant, he holds out his hand, palm facing her, and says, "I am not the one you will want to eat, Beatrix."

So much for subtlety or subterfuge. Why did the others just let the orc walk into the entrance without stopping him or redirecting him? How, now, can they get in to Dolp without heavy opposition? Why did that stupid giant lady just hit him in the head, unprovoked? He thinks to himself, I've got to learn orcish.

Round 13

The area here is dim light. There are candles and small pots of burning fat here and there. (Dim light provides concealment to anyone without darkvision. Concealment means a 20% miss chance, and prevents sneak attack damage. I rolled to see if the giantess hit Murphy last round - she did.)

Alleah again mocks the orc as she casts a spell on him. He pulls away from her even as she moves away, “Ahhh, even the goblins can cast spells now! We’re under attack.” Confirming what the orc said, Bliss shoots him and the orc falls dead.

Kezzem stands up just as the orc dies and moves toward his friends.

Sky lets the rope fall from his hands as he moves 5’. He draws his bow and shoots, hitting the giantess Beatrix with a crit for 36 damage (drawing your bow is a move action, and Manyshot is a Full Attack action, so he only shot once.) Meko goes back to bite that stupid orc. He sniffs the orc, and decides it is indeed dead.

Pressi laments losing the element of surprise, and steps up to beat on the giantess Hitting her twice for 22 damage.

Murphy calls down lightning on the giantess that hit him, and tells the other one, “"I am not the one you will want to eat, Beatrix."

The invisible Shel moves up behind Sky and cast Confusion on Beatrix and a goblin, both of whom seem to shake it off. Shel is no longer invisible.

The giantess closest to the group speaks orcish to Pressi, saying, Highlight to display spoiler: {”Have you lost your mind? I'll teach you a thing or two...”} She strikes Pressi in her orc form once for 18 damage! Her second attack misses in this dim light.

The other giantess also wears a filthy apron covered in - you’re pretty sure you don’t want to know what those stains are. Her hair is a mop of greasy curls, and she carries has a big meat hammer. In giantish, Highlight to display spoiler: {“Gurtha, you get that one, and I’ll get this one. Oh my, I hate when these things get loose - they can just be so hard to catch!”} She charges Sky and brings her hammer down hard on the halfling for 24 damage!

From the other room, you hear a booming voice in giantish, Highlight to display spoiler: {”WHAT THE DEVIL IS GOING ON IN THERE? YOU’VE GONE AND SCARED THE DOGS.”}

The giantess cooks exchange nervous looks, and Beatrix responds in giantish,Highlight to display spoiler: { “No, no, it’s fine. Some food got out - that’s all!”}

Then they bark at the orc and goblins. “Well, don’t just stand there! Help out!” The orcs and goblins jump into action, but do little more than move around nervously.

Ooc: Sky's Icy longbow of seeking is immune to concealment miss chance. So the last arrow should have hit.

Just took a grand wack! My heads bleeding pretty bad, any chance of some relief or healing over here guys? he says to his team, in halfling.

CORRECTION: I did not know Sky's bow has the Seeking enhancement. So, Sky's arrow hit last round - I will amend the above move to include his crit. Just to clarify, manyshot is a full-attack action, which is a type of full round action. He was unable to take a full round action that since he needed to use a move aciton to draw his bow. Bear in mind that Monday's post will include an AOO against Sky since he is now shooting his bow while being threatened by the giantess.

Seeing that Pressi's acting skills are in play, Murphy plays the role of a halfling attempting to escape, by skedaddling back to AQ16, then lands a lightning bolt on Beatrix the murderous giant cook. In halfling, he says, "Sky, back up for healing - we can face them one at a time if they are in the corridor."

In common he projects forward, "You said we were going to be dipped alive in marinade and soaked for half a day or more, still alive, before being turned into food. Why don't the giants know about the new recipe?? Stupid orc."

Alleah begins summoning some help. Bliss moves up, losing sight of Alleah, and draws out a tuning fork as he goes. He seems to go unnoticed. Kezzem also moves toward the fight, chanting as he goes (his allies are affected by Inspire Courage +1 morale vs. fear, +1 competence to attacks and damage)

Pressi feigns stumbling around as she fails to grapple the giantess. The giantess recognizes the grapple attempt.

Shle casts Confusion on Beatrix, and draws her Staff of Fire. Her Confusion seems to have no effect.

Sky asks for healing as he unloads more arrows into the giantess before him. While he hits for a total of 43 damage, this provokes an attack from the Beatrix, and even in this dim light Sky is hit with a crit for 28 damage!

Murphy pulls back, muttering to Sky to do likewise. (FYI - this would normally provoke an AOO, but she already took an AOO against Sky.) As he does this he laments that the giants did not soak them in marinade, and then releases another lightning bolt against Beatrix for 9 damage. This is fortunate indeed, as the bolt causes the giantess to drop before she can land another blow on poor Sky.

The giantess Gurtha shrieks as she sees her friend fall. In giantish, Highlight to display spoiler: {“BEATRIX, NO!!! DOLP! DOLP! WE’RE UNDER ATTACK!”} She is no longer fooled by Pressi’s antics, but does seem surprised the orc is still standing, (in orcish) Highlight to display spoiler: {“Why aren’t you dead yet?”} She directs a mighty blow against Pressi’s, but misses in the dim light.

You notice the orcs and goblins seem to be cowering in the back of the kitchen area. You also hear the noise of movement from beyond the kitchen area. Movement from big things.

As he comes to the edge of the wall, he allows his eyes to peer out, just barely visible through the wall, about 10' above the floor. He looks to see what he can. Round 15

Murphy shouts out some directions for the battle, and then lets Alleah know before shifts into earth elemental form. He earth glides 10’ into the wall, and the sounds of his friends fighting falls away. He finds he cannot see within the stone. (Standard action to shift form, half-speed move action to move 10’ under stealth at +9.’)

Bliss scurries forward with an impossible to see stealth. The wolf does smell him and snaps in his general direction, missing. In his tiny form, he stands under the large table in the room. He believes the hill giant closest to him is directing the other two. Bliss can seem some terrified orcs and goblins in this room. Bliss only: Highlight to display spoiler: { Bliss perceives a shimmer in the air, suggesting there is an invisible creature about 5 feet above the table.}

Alleah finishes her summons and casts Prayer affecting all but Murphy. directs her leopard forward. It charges forward and kills the wolf (even though it did miss the wolf with it’s bite due to the dim light - scent does not negate this miss chance due to concealment.)

Kezzem deftly tumbles forward to flank the giantess. Sky steps back and drinks a potion.

Pressi lets loose a flurry of blows against the giantess for 35 damage and tries to rally the orcs and goblins in the room. All he gets from them are fearful looks. Then Shel lets loose a Magic Missle for 15 points.

Looking nearly dead, the giantess clutches the table as she staggers. And screams. Loudly.

One of the giants moves up and throws a rock at Shel, hitting her for 17 damage. Another giant moves up and lands a blow on the leopard, killing it (29 damage.)

The largest giant there barks in orcish, Highlight to display spoiler: {”MOVE UP AND ATTACK OR I’LL HAVE YOUR HIDES!”}

The orcs then tentatively move forward, clearly terrified.

Murphy moves to AK16, sinking halfway into ground (since he is 8' tall, figuring head and arms above ground, mid torso and legs beneath [using the acrobatics roll of 10 just before DM post, as this is the round he breached the wall]).

The elemental druid casts ice storm centered at the intersection between AH/AI and 9/10, getting the frontside of Giant 5; three (initally alive) wolves and one dead wolf; 4 orcs; Giant 3; and the backside of Giant 4, for 11 hp bludgeoning and 6 hp cold damage (no save), 17 hp total damage. This round, great magical hailstones pound down. For the duration of the spell (8 minutes), heavy snow and sleet rains down in the area. Creatures inside this area take a -4 penalty on Perception skill checks and the entire area is treated as difficult terrain.

Roll should have been 3d6 then 2d6 - but accidentally hit 8d6 roll, clicked 'Explain Previous Roll' and this is what showed on the last full line of roll summation: "= sum(5,2,4,1,5,3,4,1)". Thus: 5+2+4=11 bludgeoning, 1+5=6 cold damage, 17 hp total damage.

He takes a quick glance and listen around immediately after casting the spell.

Bliss sneaks to AD10, skirting the sleet, but not the reach of the wolves. (Move Action, Stealth 31. AC vs AoO with Mobility: 34) Then, fighting defensively in the Giant King's own space, Brave Bliss touches the tuning fork to that biggest giant, the one shouting orders. (that's G5, right?) (Standard Action, Attack ...

If that suceeds in hitting the giant's Touch AC, great. If not, Bliss rerolls with a hero point, and on the reroll, gets a 31.

Tuning Fork of the Planes - This simple tuning fork contains the spell Plane Shift. This may be used as a standard action, and the user must succeed on a touch attack. This will shift the foe to the Elemental Plane of Air (DC 19 Will save to negate.) This is a single use item worth 2,250 GP.

Will save DC19 to resist the magic.

If the magic works and the giant disappears, then Bliss shouts "HOORAY! THE GIANT KING IS DEAD!"

If the magic does not work and the giant king is not only alive but aware of Bliss standing in his space, then if Bliss has not yet used a hero point, he uses one (extra move action) to scurry out of there and scramble back under the table. His AC vs the AoO provoked is a 37 with mobility and fighting defensively. If HAS already used a hero point (to make the touch attack work), then he braces himself and tries to stand like a hero.

Round 16

In earth elemental form, Murphy moves out of the wall, ending his move halfway into the floor. He casts Ice Storm, attracting the attention of those in the room. Then Bliss moves into the largest giant’s square. He hits the giant with the tuning fork he carries. The tuning fork vanishes, but the giant does not (will save was 21.)

A small, disembodied voice from near the table says in giantishHighlight to display spoiler: {, “my lord, there is a small creature near your right heel.”} The giant looks around his feet, but does not seem to see Bliss, and responds Highlight to display spoiler: {”What’re ya talking about Castor? I don’t see nuthin.” } Then the giant moves, but as he does so he practically trips over Bliss. He swings his greatclub at the tiny halfing he cannot see, missing. The giant says, Highlight to display spoiler: {“Hey Castor - did I hit it?”} The goblin responds, Highlight to display spoiler: {, “No my lord, it’s still there..”}

Murphy and Bliss only: Highlight to display spoiler: { Murphy and Bliss perceive a shimmer in the air, suggesting there is an invisible creature about 5 feet above the table. This creature occupies a 5x5 area.} Suddenly, a small goblin with a bow appears in the air. Bliss feels drowsy for a moment, but shakes off the effect.

Alleah feels a bit cheated on the cheetah, and is sad about his short life as his carcass disappears. She casts Command on the nearest giant telling him to fall, but he does not seem to react.

Sky fires a volley of arrows at the giant before him (using a hero point to ensure a hit,) and inflicts a total of 35 damage. He then steps to the side out the giant’s sight, and tells Alleah he used his last healing potion.

Pressi is disappointed that the orcs and goblins did not rally with her against the giants. She falls back to heal Sky for 7 points, and tries to encourage the orcs. They respond first loudly in orcish, and then almost in a whisper, Highlight to display spoiler: {”NO WAY. WE’RE LOYAL TO DOLP. YOU SHOULD SURRENDER….(look, we’re not stupid. these giants will cream us if we act against em. if you run away, take is with you.)”}

Kezzem hits the giantess that was close to death, and pushes her all the way in. She falls with a satisfying THUMP. Then he continues to encourage his friends with a limerick.

Shel lets loose a fireball enveloping two of the giants, and momentarily clearing the ground in the area of the ice storm. (The ground there will return to difficult terrain after the next player’s turn.)

The giant says in giantish, Highlight to display spoiler: {“Hey Thom, they done kilt Beatrix an now they kilt Gurtha! An its just a bunch a little guys an a orc! This aint good.”} The giant looks pretty beat up, but moves up to throw a rock at Kezzem.

Murphy takes advantage of the giant's head bashing to make it appear that he has driven him all the way into the ground (sunk down 5', head not above the ground at all - about 2' below surface). Kezzem casts Grease on the floor, and scurries under the messy kitchen table to flank the giant. Pressi asks Alleah and Shel to help the orcs and goblins escape. Then she turns her attention on the giant, hitting him for 22 damage. He falls silent. Well, he’s silent. He grabs at the table as he falls, pulling down a large platter that shatters loudly on the ground.

Alleah heals Sky for 10 points. Sky thanks Alleah, calling her his potio. Then he steps sideways, ready to fire on the giant, only to see it lying still between Kezzem and Pressi.

Shel cast Invisibility on herself and vanishes from sight.

Murphy sinks just beneath the surface of the floor, and then heals himself twice for a total of 25 points. All is silent and dark for Murphy. (I backed Murphy up. His 5’ move does not provoke an AOO. He cannot take a 5’ move if he also moves, and withdraw would be a full round action.)

Bliss scurries beneath the table, and the giant attacks and misses the little guy.

At the flying goblin’s direction, the two giants move into position. Then the goblin silently releases a Cone of Cold, hoping the it would reveal the presence of Bliss. Alas, it does not.

As the magical cold blasts by, Bliss hopes his shadowdancer training and agility will come to his aid ... any chance for a cover bonus to reflex saves, being under the table and all?

Reflex save ... +2 heroism +2 cat's grace +1 prayer ... Normal +10 goes to +15 ... Bliss rolls a 28 and takes no damage with evasion. Cover bonuses moot.

Alleah says, "Where'd that snow storm come from? And the grease? How are we supposed to get through there now?"

Mookie replies to Alleah, "Look, sweetie, the kid felt disappointment, so probably the tuning fork trick was a bust. Then he felt confident, so he's probably holding his own in there. He hasn't even taken any damage, so ... draw your own conclusions. Also, PS: They got a caster in there, duh, prolly that gobbie."

Bliss, oblivious to his friends and the rest of the battle, decides it is time to shoot! He backs up five feet (still under the table), drops prone (the better to stay hid) and angles his bah up at the enemy. At the Giant King (G5)'s knee, to be exact.

He is at +2 cat's grace +1 prayer and +1 insp courage to hit, so he rolls at +17. He rolls a 36 ... what is that? A natural 19! Sweet! Crit Threat! Bliss follows up to confirm and confirms against AC27. OOOH! I see from the DM post that Dolp is AC26! Confirmed Crit!!! Bliss rolls 1d6+7 twice (that includes +1 prayer and +1 insp courage): 13+9 = 22 damage to the king!

Mookie comments to Alleah, "The kid seems pretty proud of himself. Something went right!"

That's the standard action part of sniping ... now the move action / stealthy part. Bliss rolls a 39 stealth check to stay hid after shooting.

Pressi frowns at Sky. "I intend to help anyone who needs help. If that's not your style, at least stay out of my way." Turning to the orcs, she assures them, in orcish, that the halflings won't harm them as they move past.

She kind of boggled as Kezzem entered the high cast area. Wasn't the point of the grease and the ice storm that we would stay on this side of it? But with half the team now in the next room, she figured she had to head there too.

Drinking her last cure potion, she gingerly squeezed her way around the dead body blocking the door and through the grease. "Oh my god, what did they do the orcs in here?"

Round 18

Alleah rallies the heros to charge forward. She scrambles nimbly over the bodies, but balks at the grease and ice and snow. She says to the orcs and goblins, “Stay out of our way and you won't get hurt. We're friends of Knucklehead and Scabby". Then she casts Hold Person on the flying goblin in the other room.

In answer to Alleah’s questions, Mookie exhibits an almost telepathic level of insight into Bliss’ actions. :|

Bliss backs up and goes prone before shooting Dolp in the knee for 20 damage (inspire courage ended.) The giant howls in pain. Bliss suspects he is glad he does not speak giantish. While he remains hidden, Dolp at least has a pretty good idea that something painful is under the table.

Kezzem moves carefully through the grease and ice and snow.

Pressi snaps at Sky, and assures the orcs they they will not be harmed. Then she drinks a potion and moves forward. (I moved her back a square. She cannot move diagonally past a hard corner, so she cannot skirt the bodies. Second diagonal counts as two squares and dead bodies are difficult terrain, that movement is rate is halved, so that one diagonal took 4 squares of movement to enter.)

Sky and Meko move forward. (Moved Sky back a couple squares - see note on Pressi’s movement.)

Murphy makes a 5’ move and begins casting a summoning spell. He hears a slightly muffled version of what’s going on above.

Shel casts Haste affecting all but Bliss and Murphy.

The orcs and goblins in the kitchen area creep forward, seemingly terrified and fascinated that anything so small could take on these giants.

If he does save or escape, he will be in AE14.)

The flying goblin vanishes from sight.

Murphy moves, and breaks the surface at AL16, just long enough to point backward and say, "Ilmava olento! Ole hyvä hyökkäys iso jättiläinen!" (mp3 sound file) in the Aurun tongue, which translates as Highlight to display spoiler: {"Airy creature! Please attack the big giant!"}, then continues moving forward into the walls of the cave, ending at AN16 (no going slowly for him right now - a full 20' movement).

In his summoning, he targeted a spot for the arrival of the air elemental about twenty feet up (if the ceiling is at least a little higher than that, else to a place a few feet below the ceiling), and ten feet east [assuming the top of the map is north], at about AJ18. The hawk-shaped lightweight air creature seems to shrug its wings at being summoned and instructed by an earth elemental, yet flies to AC18, diagonally to AB17, then transforms into a whirlwind, and circles round and round the giant's head, fluffing up his hair and eyebrows. Disregard the d20+2 - he doesn't 'attack' per se as a whirlwind, and the giant is too big to be caught up in it - but all that blowing in his face and ears may prove distracting. He continues his circling harassment. The whirlwind's height is 10', and is 5' at the base.

Bliss dodges the toppled table with a neat little roll. He hears Shel and Alleah and he wishes he could shout, "I'm fine, sure!" but doing so would tell the Giant King that he was lying underfoot.

As it is, Bliss looks up from the floor and gets quite an eyeful. "Although that's a smaller target than I mighta thought."

Still, a target is a target, and Bliss has three bolts yet left in this clip. He's not positive the light in the area has enough shadows for his power to work, but hey! We try things! He fires at the obvious target, hoping to inflict more pain on the giant king.

No inspire courage, so Bliss attacks at +16, for 1d6+6. He hits AC31, no second crit in a row. He hits for 12 damage though, that's max, so no complaining!

He reaches into the dim places of the room and pulls ... he gathers the shadows to stay unseen, with a stealth check of 39. He keeps his eyes and ears open, perception 29. His AC this round is 30.

Pressi, now hasted, makes her way through the ice storm, to... what? She surveys the situation the best she can (having missed even Mookie's commentary), but nothing strikes her as an obvious move.

Finally, she turns to the man who appears to be in charge. "Dolp," she calls in common. "You are a hard man to get a hold of, but it's over. We can still talk about this. We know about your battle with Hairshirt. We know how this war of yours ends, whether you kill us or not."

Spells like summoning spells require line of effect to where the creature is summoned. The summoning spell is a full round casting time that does not allow movement during the casting of the spell. Murphy, new to this whole earth gliding thing, finds that he cannot cast a summoning spell while encased in stone. The Air elemental does not appear and the spell is lost.

OOC: My thinking on the grease was that we could easily move in and out while the giants would struggle. Moving through grease is only a DC 10 Acrobatics check. Looking through our sheets, that's pretty much automatic for everyone in the party (remember you do not auto-fail on skill checks with a natural 1 like on attacks and saves). On the other hand, the giants (unless they have ranks in Acrobatics and/or high Dex scores) probably have about a 50% chance to move through and a 25% to fall on their butts.

reason with it? By all means sure. I bet most people are willing to reason with the chicken that pecks at their head when they try to cook it...

He shakes his head at Pressi as the arrow tears into giant flesh.
Meko howls and yells at Sky hop on so you can help your friends, you can't move near as quick as I can...

Meko moves closer to Sky, that way mounting is easier next round.

Round 19

Below the surface of the floor, Murphy completes his Summon Monster.spell. Then he moves and rising partway out of the floor and into a nearby wall. Though he realizes the Air Elemental he summoned did not appear, he calls to it as if it were there.

Alleah calls for Bliss. Wondering where the flying goblin disappeared to, she attempts to cast a spell, but as she reaches for the force that powers her spell, the ley lines slip away from her. She backs away. Shel drinks a potion and whispers to Alleah, offering to dispel the Grease spell.

Bliss neatly rolls away from the table as it’s brought down on her head. He assures Alleah he is alright, and he shoots the giant above him in the...nether regions for 12 damage. Bliss can see Dolp’s eyes cross as he yells in pain. Bliss pulls the shadows around him again.

Pressi moves into the room and tells Dolp, "You are a hard man to get a hold of, but it's over. We can still talk about this. We know about your battle with Hairshirt. We know how this war of yours ends, whether you kill us or not."

Kezzem attempts to goad the giant nearest him. Then he throws three daggers inflicting 21 damage. (He cannot take a 5’ move in difficult terrain.) Sky also moves in and shoots an arrow at Dolp for 20 damage. (Kezzem and Sky both need to roll for 20% miss chance on these blows unless they can see normally in this dim light.)

Dolp steps 5’ toward Pressi. As he swings, he says, “Look Thom, Hairshirt sends tiny assassins, eh?” He hits her once for 31 damage. His second blow goes wide in this dim light! Then Thom steps forward and swings at Kezzem, hitting him for 24 damage.

Then the a large portion if the kitchen area is plunged into darkness. You hear the goblins screaming as they and the orcs run out. Some of you can tell they are there in the darkness, and one of them says, ‘Ooo. You better run!”

Relying on her clerical abilities, Alleah casts a Dispel at the magical darkness that has enveloped her.

Warrd, however, has a sense of humour. Her dispel check fails miserably.

Murphy emerges from the cave wall at AP16, likely to the astonishment of the goblin and orc at AO15 and 14 (the goblin can take an OOA if he was not caught flatfooted), and stops his progression at AR16. His intent had been to ensure no one was coming into the cave - but it really would not do to have all of the cooks' helpers scurrying out of the cave, either. Murphy, beginning at the corner of the doorway nearest him, casts wind wall, blocking off with a two-foot thick vertical wall of fast moving air, extending upward as much as forty feet (or to the ceiling) a rectilinear line, 15' to the 90 degree corner cavern wall next to the goblin, thence 10' across the gap to the corner near the orc, along the wall away from the orc for five feet, then back parallel with with the wall in front of the two cooks' helpers, changing direction at the perfectly creased 90 degree cavern corner, five feet toward earth-Murphy, then along another line to the corner protruding into the hallway from AR14, along the inner wall back to the starting point, then across the ten foot opening (80' total), as indicated on the map by the red lines. Earth elemental Murphy shouts in goblin, "Stay on your side of the wind for safety. I cannot guarantee your safety if you try to pass them. There is danger outside. If you try, I shall need to stop you for everyone's benefit - including yours."

If any decide to try to come through the walls, he adopts a threatening posture, and will take advantage of their incoming proximity to take attacks of opportunity for non-lethal damage - as well as working to block their passage. {DM Mark - feel free to roll AoOs if needed.}

If they remain, or come through no more than the first wall, he tries to look as friendly as a hulking earth elemental can look, giving reassuring hand motions and toothy rocky smiles.

Round 20

Alleah is not happy her previous spell did not work. She tries to dispel the darkness and becomes more vexed when that does not work. Calling on her heroic reserves, she then manages to dispel the darkness. As the darkness lifts, Shel moves across the grease, into the room and casts Confusion. It occurs to Alleah and Shel that their usual reliance on charms and enchantments seem much less effective - which is odd for giants.

Kezzem moves out of the Ice Storm and throws a dagger at the giant, hitting him for 7 points.

Sky moves forward, but his shot goes wide.

Bliss hits Dolp again for 9 points, pulling the shadows around himself again.

Pressi is momentarily distracted by an idle thought, and then focuses on the task at hand. Even still, she misses and then becomes something of a blur as she tries to avoid the giant’s blows.

Murphy earth glides out of the wall and into the other room and creates a Wind Wall to stop the goblins and orcs from leaving. The Wind Wall follows a tortuous path, seemingly to punish the universe for using the word “rectilinear” elsewhere. :)

The goblins and orcs scream, “Aaaaaahhhhh. The wall are alive and moving. There’s a wind. We’re all gonna die. Aaaahhhhh!” They stream past Murphy in his elemental form. He is able to attack one of them, and a goblin lies dead.

Dolp looks at the orc Pressi, “So, you think to face me? I’ll grind your bones to make my bread.” With that, he strikes at Pressi. His first shot misses in the dim light, but his second blow lands true for 24 points. Pressi looks pretty shaky. Another hit like that would not be good for Pressi.

Thom throws a rock at Kezzem, missing him in the dim light.

Too late, Murphy realizes he should have just shut the doors. He hopes the poor goblin survives the (non-lethal) damage he took when he tried to gently knock him out. Rock is heavy, right.

Murphy double moves to AK17, and sees what he can see, so he can figure out what to do next. Dolp and orc-Pressi!. Drawing upon heroic resources (1 hero point), he energizes a flame strike upon the large hill giant who is attacking his lady love, causing 20 hp damage (save DC18 for half) to the leader. [blast! rolled sum(4,3,5,1,1,1,1,4) - only 2.5 average]

(OOC: Sorry, but I was looking over the dice rolls, and I'm not seeing any attack rolls that beat AC 31. Could you tell me which roll it was.)

Pressi had three thoughts. One, she had no idea how this guy was hitting her after that swift action. Two, she had no idea where Bliss was but having him in flanking position would be fantastic. Three, she felt exposed as Murphy tried in vain to bail her out.

Pressi rolled backwards away from the giants (Acrobatics 40 - that should take care of any AoOs) to find herself standing back in the ice storm, the water and hail streaming down her face. Quietly, she removed a small bar from her bandolier as her thoughts began to travel again....

Highlight to display spoiler: {Inside the giggling ghost, Jon the Janitor watched as Pressi removed something from a brightly wrapped box. "Never ending soap," he explained. "Use as much as you want and never run out. It lasts an entire year." Pressi had marveled at how much surface area such a product would produce, given enough moisture....}

Round 21

Murphy looks at the unconscious goblin lying on the floor next to him. He can see the creature is not dead. Probably not dead. But he wastes no time checking on him and moves back into the room where his friends are fighting giants, yelling at Dolp to get his attention. As he does so, he heroically casts Flame Strike. The giant’s eyes go wide, and he barely manages to avoid the worst of the damage, taking only 10 points from the divine flames.

Alleah wonders about that rotten little flying goblin, but points her wand at Dolp. Something streaks from the wand, hitting Dolp for 4 damage. Similar missiles shoot from Shel’s fingertips, hitting Dolp for 11 points.

Bliss shoots at at Dolp. It misses and he hides again, safe in the shadows.

Pressi tumbles out of the way of the giant. Then she takes a bar of soap and works to melt some of the snow in her hands to lather it up. (There was no water - it’s an ice storm. Save your hero point this round. Bear in mind it will be a longshot to use a thrown bar of soap to cause a grease effect.)

Kezzem’s dagger goes wide in this dim light.

Sky brings his seeking bow to bear on Dolp inflicting 48 points of damage. This really makes Dolp mad. And dead. So he’s not mad for long.

Thom says in giantish, Highlight to display spoiler: {“Oh my gods, they killed Dolp!”} He decides to make a break for it. He moves into the Ice Storm, which slows him. He continues into the grease, which slows him further, though he does manage to keep his feet. Then he sees Alleah and says, Highlight to display spoiler: {“More? How many of these things are loose?”}

This is not going well for Thom.

Round 22

Murphy looks at the last giant, and calls down a bolt of lightning into the creature. Then he slowly strides forward, disappearing into the wall. The giant is unable to react and takes 16 points of damage as his muscles convulse for a moment.

Bliss reloads his bah, not bothering to hide anymore. As he does so, he looks around the room for that flying goblin he saw before.

Alleah rebukes the giant, and casts Blindness on him. This provokes an attack from the giant, and he hits Alleah with his greatclub for 19 damage. (Alleah must make a concentration check of 31 to cast the spell on the giant. Unfortunately, even if she succeeds, he makes his fort save.) Mookie considers pecking the beast, but thinks better of it.

Kezzem throws three daggers at the giant, but the poor lighting here means only one lands - and that one bounces harmlessly off. Kezzem has unkind words for the darkness.

Pressi gestures wildly from where she is, showing that giant what she would do to him if she could reach him.

Sky draws his bow to shoot the giant. The giant tries to react in time, but his attention was on Alleah (already used his AOO). Sky shoots him three times, managing to hit him in the belly, the throat and one eye. He falls dead.

Shel begins casting a spell, but as she sees the giant fall, she stops before it’s lost.

Further on (down on the map,) the cave seems to end in another chamber where you see some sleeping skins. The kind you sleep on, the skins are not sleeping.

As the room falls quiet, you hear a low murmur of goblin voices above the ice and grease (up on the map). Those who can see in this dim light observe three goblins that seem to be pressed against the far wall, trying to look at as small and as inconspicuous as possible.

Murphy returns to AR16, and performs a cure light wounds on the unconscious goblin through the agency of his wand of cure light wounds (I know he can use it on himself, not certain whether he can use it on the goblin - but he touches him, trying to use the power of the wand through his touch) for 8 hp of healing. In the goblin tongue he says, "Sorry, little guy - I didn't mean to hit you so hard. Do you feel better now? Go ahead and join your friends, if you want." To those who seem to be waiting in the cave entrance, he says, "Are you all right? Was there someone your size who was invisible, talking to the giants? Aside from him, I think it's safe now in here. We may be able to reward with silver or gold any who help us."

He may or may not be able to perceive the invisible goblin if he is in the hallway or the first cave. Perhaps if there is any shift in the wind walls by someone coming through invisibly...

Alleah is a little surprised the giant was able to reach her from that far away, so isn't prepared for the blow. She's glad when the giant is dead though.

"Drop your spells, if you can" Alleah says in halfling to the party "Let's regroup in the main room and check for damage. Besides, it's easier for me to heal wounded in a group"

She casts a light cantrip on the end of her wand and carefully walks into the next room

Round 23

(Sorry for any confusion. Forgot to remove the fleeing goblins and orcs from the cave entrance)

Murphy steps into the cave where you entered, and finds that the fleeing orcs and goblins are gone. He heal’s the goblin he hit, which awakes. In goblin, Highlight to display spoiler: {”AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. The wall’s alive an gonna kill me again!”}

Alleah encourages the others to regroup, and casts Light as she checks out the other room. All she finds there are some sleeping furs that she would definately not sleep on. Unidentified vermin, almost too small to see, scurry when they are disturbed. She tells teh goblins pressed against the wall that these are good halflings.

Bliss talks so Mookie. Then he looks around and says, "Hey, there's still that invisible caster! He'll have the whole army after us! We gotta heal and go!" Sky chimes in, “Check The giants for sure. Show yourself caster! Do it now and we may spare your miserable life. Try and sneak away or attack and you'll not have a prayer to live.“

Sky searches the two dead giants in this room. On Dolp, he finds some decent hide armor, a greatclub, a belt, a cloak, and a potion bottle. On Thom, there is some hide armor, a greatclub, about 50 gp in loot, and a ratty looking teddy bear. All of it is giant sized.

Shel says she doesn’t want that goblin to escape, and asks if someone is manning the door.

Pressi moves to the table and looks to see what Dolp may have been working on. There is a plate of half eaten food, about 20 gold coins, and some crudely made drawiings - one is a wolf, and one seems to be a naked woman.

The three goblins remain pressed agains the wall, staring at you, not daring to move.

All in goblin, he says, "Don't worry, fella. The giants are dead. I will protect you. To do so, I need to pick you up to help shield your body. You want my help?" he asks as he holds out one hand for the fellow to take. If he does, he picks him up, wraps his arms around him. "Close your eyes for a moment to protect them, and hold your breath for a moment." If the halfling allows him, he picks him, closes the doors, and carries him toward the kitchen. If not, he says, "Then stand back for a moment," motioning for him to move to AQ17, "Watch me,"[/i] closes the doors, and walks down the hallway toward the kitchen. [If we are still round by round, I think he may have used up his move actions this round, so next round he will move - hopefully carrying the frightened goblin. If movement is more relaxed, he'll be at AO14 ('M?' on map).

Meanwhile, he is keeping eyes and ears out for any evidence of the small invisible fellow, as well as, just before closing the doors, any activity visible from here outside the cavern entrance.

She turns her back to the goblins and whispers to Pressi in halfling "They're trying to blend into the wall they're that scared of us. I don't think they'll give us any trouble. I wouldn't trust them to watch over us while we're sleeping, but they won't give us any trouble"

She walks away from the goblins and channels some healing energy for the group.

"Is taking out Dolp enough? Maybe we've just united all the giants under their other leader, and made them more dangerous?" Alleah asks aloud in halfling "If we want to rile them up we need to make it look or sound like an inside job. What was the other leaders name? Perhaps we can convince these goblins that he sent us? Start saying things like he just wanted the giants dead? That he better pay us what he promised? Things like that"

Round 24-25

Murphy closes the open door (move action.) As he does so, he can hear the noise of the giant camps but the goblins and orcs that fled are nowhere to be seen. Murphy then attempts to comfort the goblin he previously smacked into unconsciousness and then revived. As an unnatural wind howls around them, Murphy speaks to the goblin in a grating, gravelly version of the goblin tongue, Then he picks up to frightened creature (move action.)

Pressi checks one of the orcs for valuables, but finds nothing. Kezzem casts Dancing Lights, pushing back the dim light in a large part of the room. Bliss heals Kezzem and then moves.

Alleah gestures for the goblins to remain silent. Then she discusses strategy as she channels energy to heal her friends.

Shel casts Detect Magic. She detects magic in the area. Two rounds later, she determines the following:

Sky pulls out a potion as he moves with Meko back toward the door. He says, “ya hairshirt better pay up, even if that castor got away”

The goblins up by the wall remain there, trying to vanish into the wall. Pressi sees their eyes go wide at Sky’s mention of Hairshirt. You hear some low murmurs among them, but can’t quite make out what’s said.

Murphy, frightened goblin in arms, shields him as best he can as they brave the scary walls of wind.

Along the way, he has eyes and ears out, searching for any sign of the small invisible fellow he discerned over a minute ago, to see if the critter may be in the hallway [Perception 35]. Once at the edge of the entrance to the kitchen area, he focuses even more closely [Perception 39]. He asks the goblin his name, and says in his gravelly goblin voice, "Look, there are some of your fellow goblins inside. Why don't you go in to them, tell them to follow you, and, when you all come back, I'll see if we can get the hallway winds to calm down, so you can leave with them safely. I'll tell the others to keep you safe."

If the goblin agrees, he sets him down, tells the others that the goblin has safe passage to retrieve his fellows ... then continues looking about, high and low, left and right.

He does call out his recommendations in the halfling tongue, then in sylvan, for Bliss's benefit, "Do a quick search, please - heal up those who need it, then let's get going, within a minute or two, at most."

Alleah channels 2 more bursts of healing energy for those that need it. With her light spell still in effect, she holds her wand upwards to try and shed light for the rest of the party to see.

The combat was lengthy and has taken a toll on her abilities. She has used all her energy channels, and all her 2nd and 3rd level spells. If another combat occurs before days end she may likely find herself trying to fight with cantrips!

She tries to engage one of the "hiding" goblins (Diplomacy 10) but doesn't make too big a deal of it. "Honestly," she replies to Alleah in halfling, "I'm more curious about what they think of you guys being led by an orc and a goblin kid. I don't know if I started a slave uprising or a mass grave out there. At any rate, I'd rather we let the rumors swirl than attempt a false narrative."

Round 26

The light in the large main area is much improved.

Murphy carries the traumatized goblin into the next room, and then tells him to run along with the other goblins there. Murphy calls out for others to search the area and heal folks up.

Alleah heals his friends. She tries to maintain the ruse that the party was sent by Hairshirt.

Pressi moves up to rummage through some gear that has been stored in the cave. She find some giant sized weapons, roughly made hide armor, large sacks, canvas, rope, etc. Nothing of great value, but decent gear for exploring, camping - or waging war. She tries to engage the goblins.

Bliss becomes increasingly worried about impending doom from outside, and moves that way.

As Kezzem searches, he tells a story of a guy with a dead raven. It’s probably best that Bliss and Mookie are not there. Sky rides Meko into the room to help search with the others. She with Kezzem’s dancing lights in here, his sharp eyes make out the outline of a door in what was a shadowed alcove.

As Bliss went racing by a moment ago, Murphy asked in halfling, "Say, Bliss, did you get any look at the invisible fellow? Any idea where he might be?" But Bliss was in an awful hurry.

Murphy answers the poor goblin, "My orc lady friend will let you know if you can go - it is fine with me - the walls of wind will quiet down by about the time you get there - be careful on the grease," as he walks to AF12 (symbol M1), and looks about more, listening... and uses the wand to cure himself of 9 hp damage. He adds the question, in halfling, "Can we give them a few coins for their trouble - and their silence?"

He walks toward the alcove, getting to AD17 (symbol M2) by round 27, and heals up another 7 hp damage.

Pressi shoved as much rope and canvas into the large sacks as she figured the team could carry. (She won't touch the weapons and armor unless someone requests it.)

In response to Murphy's request, Alleah presses the 20 gp from Dolp's table into the goblin's hands. "We are sorry that you wound up in the middle of this, and won't hurt you so long as you remain in the middle. I cannot say the same for the giants. So run, hide, fight - but be forewarned. The days when you could just blend into the wall are over. The uprising has begun. Anything you can do to keep goblins from remaining slaves, you should do."

With her remaining move action, she made her way towards Kezzem and the secret door. In her bandolier, her invisibility injector waited to be used.

Round 27

(I’m being a little loose with the timing and moves here)

Murphy moves, talks, and heals.

Alleah tries to match giants to beds. That’s hard to do without some careful work. She remembers there was an area near the fire at the entrance where perhaps the ogres slept. There seemed to be a couple areas in the kitchen where perhaps the orcs, goblins and giantesses slept - not sure just who slept where though. In the area at the end of this large room, she can tell there are three sleeping areas for giant sized creatures, one of which is cleaner and separate from the other two.

Bliss is not able to move as fast as he thought, since there is a closed door near the wind walls. He goes through and peers out of the cave entrance, and is surprised that he does NOT see some orcs and goblins leading giants back to the cave to obliterate the party. In fact, the area seems as noisy, raucous and chaotic as then he first entered the cave. At least none of the giants seem to be looking toward him.

Sky is excited about the secret door. He and Kezzem both search the door for traps. Neither one is able to detect a trap on the door. They do see a simple hand-hold cleverly disguised to look like part of the rock, though there is no operational handle. The large stone door looks heavy. You suspect it opens inward, away from you.

Shel advises the goblins to flee. (Yes, in general, magic items resize to the wearer, with the exception of weapons and armor.)

Pressi, though still badly injured, tries to bag up some of the supplies she finds. She gives the 20 gp from the table to the goblins, who immediately begin to fight over who should get more. Pressi can see they’re occupied, and moves toward the secret door.

Murphy approaches, sees the hand hold as Sky and Kezzem poke about it, and offers in gravelly halfling, "Allow me." Since his current mass and strength are much more than normal at the moment, he sees if he might, by pressing in, up, or down on the hand hold, push the door open. If that does not work, and if the door is fashioned from stone, he tries to earthglide through to, presumably, the other side - where his darkvision may come in handy. If the latter is the way he is able to gain entrance, from the inside he looks to see if there is a way to pull open the door for his friends also to enter. Should none of that work... he goes through the stone to one side or the other, wending his way to the other side of the door.

If a huge monster attacks him once inside whatever is on the other side of the door, he quickly shuts the door, or earthglides back. He learned his lesson, somewhat, at the necromancer's place.

Pressi nods in regards to the potion. "I assume Sky still has it? I'd hate to use it if we are just going to leave now, but I probably should take it.... especially since I don't know what happens if bears endurance wears out before I can rest." (Pressi was going to politely insist on saving it or giving it to someone else, when this thought entered her head.) She lets Kezzem or Sky take the CLW and moves towards Sky to get the bottle. (If he gives it, she drinks it for 33 HP).
Pressi watched the goblins roll around on the floor for a while. "Getting these guys their freedom is clearly a task of hope over experience." (BTW, DM, I added rope, canvas and sacks to our list of rewards.)

She hangs back as the others continue to fiddle with the door.

Round 28

Kezzem steps aside for Murphy.

Murphy pushes on the door. Nothing happens - heavy door. Then he earth glides in through the door. As he enters, he sees the room is brightly lit, and though there is a large room beyond, all he can see is two large, scantily clad giant women. They immediately scream and strike at the stone monster. One misses, and the other hits for 14 points of damage. Almost in response screams are heard from behind them, which seems to make his attackers scream again. Then Murphy exits the room as quickly as he came in. Ouch.

Alleah waits to heal either Pressi or Sky when they come near. Neither do.

Bliss hides. Shel suggests using Dolp’s belt.

Outside the door, Murphy explains in halfling. Bliss is no where to be seen, so he does not translate into sylvan. "The room, perhaps rooms, beyond are well lit." He describes the interior dimensions he was able to discern, as well as any furniture, tapestries, beds, drapes he may have discerned. There are scantily clad giant women. Two of them frightened at my earthy appearance, tried to strike me. One succeeded - she packs a wallop. There are more than two of them behind those two, and do not know if all of them are females. But likely they are there to serve at Dolp's pleasure.

"Shall we leave them be? Take them down? Or, try to talk with them? They likely find halflings tasty, too. Perhaps tell them that those who eat halflings, who attack halfling lands, will be dealt with as those whose bodies lie without. If you wish to continue the ruse about Hairshirt, that I will leave to you. I am open to suggestions - however, we may want to spike the door, or risk having a harem of very large people come streaming out. Who has spikes?"


He uses his wand again, curing 8 hp damage [net -6 this round]. "Pressi, if you will come over, I can help heal you some. And take Alleah's help, too."

Pressi, tired of waiting, simply snatched the CSW bottle out of Sky's hands and drank it. (Using the prior rolled number of 33).

Pressi wasn't really comfortable about this so called rescue operation. All for saving the good guys, sure, but wasn't this team just pressing to get moving. And even if they guessed right, who knew what these giants they were helping would do to them - or what was with them.

But the rest of the party seems to have already decided killing Dolp wasn't hard enough, so...

"Oy," Pressi called through the door in orcish and common. "I am one of the orc commanders hired by Hairshirt. Do not panic. We have the situation under control and we will get you out shortly. Round 29

Murphy explains what he saw in a gravelly, grinding voice. Then he cures himself with his wand.

Alleah and Kezzem discusses what to do. Alleah casts Enlarge Person on Sky. Shel waits. Bliss runs back as fast at his little legs will carry him.

Pressi impatiently downs a healing potion, and tries to convince those beyond the door that they mean no harm.

Sky, enlarged, steps up, and with a mighty shove opens the door. It smells a little musty and musky in here.

A couple of semi naked ogre women scream and dash out of sight. Sky gets more than just an eyeful as a giantess hucks a rock, hitting him square in the face for 16 damage! She too dashes out of sight, and amidst the screams, you hear a shrieking voice, “Go away! Go away! Shooo! Oh you rotten little creatures! Where is my Dolpy! What have you done to my Dolpy!” That screaming is really annoying.

The goblins continue to fight. At the shrieks and screams, their heads jerk up and they freeze for an instant. They scramble for what coins they can grab, their quarrel seemingly forgotten, and scurry to leave the room.

Into the tableau runs our heroine, the roast chicken with a sword. "You can all relax now, for I am also female," the chicken announces.

"You remembered to keep trying to pass yourself off as a goblin, right? Because I don't see them responding well to halflings, slaves or otherwise," Pressi whispered to Alleah in halfling. "Murphy... I don't even know how you think you're calming them down. You just keep being you."

Pressi pushed her way in. "Coming through, everyone hold their fire," she spoke again in common and orc. "I understand how this must look to you but we need to just calm down everyone. I promise that everything will be okay-ish."

Through Tue message spell he says quietly, Ya, why are we here. That castor is going to be Tue end of us... It wouldn't take them to long to get across the valley. Either kill these freaks, or let's roll...

Round 30

(Clarification on use of the Message spell - The caster can whisper message to those she included when cast, but only she can hear the replies. This spell only allows those affected to communicate with the caster, not each other.)

As you enter the room, you see it is large. It’s also pretty stuffy in here and a little stinky. There are two ogresses wielding clubs, one giantess, and two orcs - all women, all scantily clad. One ogress seems a bit unsure about this whole situation. The other looks mad, as does the giantess who holds a rock and a club. The two orcs look terrified, and continue to scream. There is also a chest near the ogresses, and a large lumpy pile of sleeping furs behind them. There is other debris scattered about the room.

Murphy heals himself, and then in a gravelly voice, threatens them with an attack from all the elements them if they do not desist.

Alleah moves into the room, attempting to invoke some sort of understanding among all women. She readies an action should those in the room attack. One does, and Alleah begins casting spell in response. The ogress’ hits her for 8 damage. Alleah grits her teeth at the blow, and managed to concentrate enough to cast Calm Emotions in response (DC 20, Alleah rolls a 24).

Pressi has some morbid thoughts, but also tries to play the female card here. She moves into the room, whispering to Alleah as she does so.

Bliss moves further in, whispering to Alleah, asking why they are not leaving. (Is there some reason Cayzle cannot move Bliss on the map? If you cannot, please at least tell me what youR movement is so I don’t have to look this up each time.)

Kezzem throws a dagger at the ogress that hit Alleah, sinking it into her arm. She howls in pain.. (Because it was a readied action and took place at the same time as Alleah’s readied spell, it does not break the spell.)

Shel voices her concerns about the actions to the invisible goblin.

Sky, in his enlarged state, stays where he is. He whispers is concerns about the invisible goblin to Alleah.

Alleah’s spell seems to have had an effect. But not on everyone. The one Ogress that attacked Alleah, the same one Kezzem hit, strikes at Alleah again. This time she misses - barely. In giantish she says, Highlight to display spoiler: {“Sas, Jances! Why are you just standing there? These creatures surely mean us harm!”} The other ogress, the giantess and even the orcs just stand there. But at least the screaming has stopped.

Back in the hallway, the goblins run out past Bliss. Unfortunately, they could not see Bliss to avoid him, and two go down in a tangled heap with the tiny hafling as they trip over him. They are quite surprised, but do not attack.

He had thought to cast a spell, but does not want to counter Alleah's spell. He figures the next six seconds will decide whether they can talk, or rather will end up in a grand battle in close quarters.

Round 31

Bliss untangles himself from the clumsy goblins, and moves quickly toward the party. He realizes as he leaves that the goblins could have attacked him in the process, but seemed more interested in getting out of there.

Alleah continues concentrating on keeping most of the opponents in the room calm. It seems to be working on all but one.

Murphy tells the attacking Ogress to stand down so that all there may live. Sky, Kezzem and Shel are not so patient. Sky attacks, shooting the ogress. In doing so, he provokes an attack, though she misses. Sky, however, does not miss and unloads three arrows into the ogress and she falls. Kezzem twirls the daggers he intended to throw. Shel stands ready to unleash a spell.

The giantess, the other ogress and the two female orcs stand there passively as their friend falls. “Bummer.” says the giantess. “Double bummer,” says the ogress. The orcs look and shake their heads.

As noted before, it’s stuffy and a little stinky in here. The giantess and the ogess have clubs, and the giantess also has a rock. The two orcs seem to be unarmed. There is a chest near the ogress, and a large lumpy pile of sleeping furs behind them all. There is other debris scattered about the room.

Until the expiration of the Calm Emotions spell, they are at your mercy. What do you do?

Any dwindling hopes that Pressi had in talking her way out died as the battle raged around her, but it was too late to worry about it now.

"Hey, stupid question," Pressi began to Alleah. "When we leave, they aren't going to chase us, right? We don't need to kill them now or anything? Because that's something we might want to discuss soon."

Pressi's fingers brushed the tips of her hair. Slowly, the clothes of her body and facial features began to shimmer and twist. When she was done, she had the clothes of the orc workers she had seen before - and the face of one of the orcs that stood before her. "Ladies," she curtsied.

Kezzem seemed to have things under control, so Pressi turned and began to head back.

Take another minute, then we can go." And back in halfling, "Shel, can you cast detect magic as Alleah requested, check the chest with Kezzem? Press - can you help carry things from the chest? Might be something worth more than canvas in it - and possibly some information that could help us."

Round 32-34

Murphy tells Sas and Jances to drop their weapons. They do not, but they do take a step back from the group. Murphy heals himself.

Kezzem moves stealthly into the room. (To clarify for future reference, movement under stealth requires you begin from a place of cover, concealment or not being seen. You move at half movement, or at “greater than half but less than your normal speed” with a -5 penalty to the stealth check. So, Kezzem’s total stealth movement would only be 10’+10’=20’, or 15’+15’=30’ with a -5 penalty to the roll.)

Bliss peers into the room, clearly nervous enemies may descend upon them at any moment.
Sky keeps his bow ready. Pressi assumes the appearance of one of the orc women, and moves to leave the room. Murphy urges that those desiring to leave wait a moment.

Alleah concentrates on her Calm Emotions spell, suggesting that someone scan for magic. (She cast this in Round 30, it will last until Round 35.) Even as she concentrates, Alleah notices that two calmed orc women seem to be looking at a couple of particularly large lumps in the bedding area, and she senses that even in their calmed state they have something to hide. Alleah mentions this.

Shel moves and casts Detect Magic, and this first round, she will detect magic.

Moving matters ahead a bit, in Rounds 33 and 34, Alleah still manages to hold the women in a calmed state. They do not drop their weapons, and Alleah will warn you that disarming them will break the Calm Emotions spell.

Shel detects magic on the chest. Once Kezzem reaches it, he checks it for traps. Finding none, he opens it. In the next two rounds, Shel will detect that the magic comes from a Silver Raven (DC 26 Spellcraft to identify.) Also in this chest are 2,000 GP and 1,000 SP. Shel also notices this room does not have the aura of evocation magic that the other room did.

Murphy and Kezzem (and perhaps others) respond to Alleah’s mention of the orc women looking at the lumps. They work together to pull two chests from the beding area. Shel will tell you that they do not detect as magic, and Kezzem checks them for traps. Finding none, they are opened. One contains 2,000 GP in women’s jewelery, most sized for medium sized creatures. The other contains 6 rolls of a thin, soft, leathery material. You have not opened these rolls. The giantess Jances says in a flat tone, “Great, now those stupid orcs have given away the rest of Dolpy’s goods. You two will pay for that.” The orc women regard the giantess for a moment and then look away, showing neither fear nor concern.

You have one more round before Alleah’s spell expires and these women act as they normally would, whatever that means at this point.

Over the past couple of rounds, as they pull out the chests, and take what is inside, earth elemental Murphy has been presenting a case to the momentarily quiescent giant and her ladies-in-waiting.

As Jances speaks common, and the orcs, he tells them in common,
"Dolp sends hill giants and others against Crescent Valley. They attack, plunder, capture, and eat halflings.

"Hrapin and Krusk watched over a halfling roasting on a spit. Hrapin and Krusk are now dead.

"Gurtha struck a halfling on the head with a hammer, calling him 'food.' Beatrix also attacked. Gurtha and Beatrix are now dead.

"Thom and Jherry tried to kill the halflings. Thom and Jherry are dead.

"The halflings came to deal with Dolp. Dolp promised to eat one of this group. Dolp attacked the halflings. Dolp is dead.

"Do you see a pattern here?

"Are you a giant? Do you attack halflings? You will die.

"Do you plunder us? We plunder you."
To underscore that point, earth elemental Murphy gives one of the chests a shove toward the door, it coming to rest at about W17 or X17, providing Alleah a bit of cover perhaps, should the need arise, and also being close enough that perhaps Pressi or another can grab the contents. He knows that Kezzem has a handy haversack, so can carry a fair amount of the contents acquired, if not all of them. The rolls of leathery material he has some dark suspicions as to whose skin it may be. He has no available pockets, and likely soon will be again traveling through stone, so leaves it to his companions to take these as evidence against the giants - but indicates someone else should grab them.

He continues (I figure the above was last round or so, and here is the current round).
"It is not healthy to attack halflings anymore.

"By the way - did you know that Hairshirt plots against the hill giants? He considers you his tool, to be used, then discarded.

"Tell your people: Leave the halflings alone. Leave Crescent Valley alone. Because, if you do not, war will leave many, many of you dead. And you will never rule the valley. It is not yours."
In halfling he says, "Shel, be ready to roast them if they attack."

He drags the middle chest behind him as he moves to W17. His parting words are,
"We go, you remain."
Readied action, should only one try to attack us, call lightning upon that individual attacker, or upon Jances if she is among the attackers. [If a hero point is necessary to do this, then he will expend it. - DM may roll 3d6, DC17]

"Ok, I guess I can go back and help you raid a group that you insist won't fight us," she said. "Personally, I'm just done with this place. And yeah, that wavering spell looks not at all panic inducing."

"And don't you talk to those orcs like that," she yelled at Jances. "I will rip that weave from your head, followed by the rest of your body. I will drop you like a stage crew drops Dwarven mimes."

She moved over towards the other chest to take the contents. (If she has movement left - base speed 40 - she makes her way back.) As she took the contents, she softened.

"We can still help you," Pressi told the girls. "Do you have anywhere to go? Will you be safe here if we leave you, maybe with some money? You don't have to stay here or fight us. We had to kill Dolp for our lives and freedom. We can still give you your lives and freedom back."

Bliss is careful to make sure he and Mookie are out of the room and headed for the exit when Alleah's spell ends.

Round 35+

The treasure is gathered.

Murphy lays out his case that action against halflings is hazardous to their health. Then he readies an action to zap them if they attack. They seem to hear him, but are unimpressed.

Pressi admonishes the giantess’ beratement of the orc women. The orcs are clearly at the bottom of this totem pole. Perhaps Pressi sees something of the hopelessness in these women that she once knew, and takes pity on them. Nothing in their flat looks suggest anger or fear in any of them. She offers to help them or leave them some money. Almost in unison, the four not dead women quickly but calmly respond that leaving the money would be great. All of it.

Alleah continues to hold the Calm Emotions spell against these women. Concentrating, she leaves the room and recommends the others do the same.

Bliss leaves the room with Mookie. Bliss grabs the small, magic raven figurine.

Shel stays in the room, ready to cast a Fireball at the first sign of provocation. Sky back her up, also ready with his bow if there is trouble.

As Alleah’s spell expires, the women back away from you. They look both mad and fearful. And determined. The ogress looks at Pressi, “So, what about that gold?” The giantess asks, “What are you little pipsqueaks going to do with us?”

[We do not need to remain in combat rounds at this time. I’m still keeping track of relative time. What now?]

In halfling earth-Murphy says, "Go ahead, begin to exit, friends. Whoever has the silver, please put half of it into one or more bags, and hand it over to me. He touches Pressi, "I'll say a few words, you say what you like, then let's you and me be the last to leave." As he touches her, Pressi receives a CLW for 4 hp.

He turns to the four female biguns, speaking common.
"I have seen an ogre have halfling friends. I have worked with giants. Rather than trying to harm or take advantage of the other, there is mutual respect, and mutual help. I can tell by your use of the word 'pipsqueaks' that mutual respect is not yet in your mind, as though size determines merit.

"Of course you feel angry toward us. You think we violated your rights. However, seeing that your people kill and eat halfling kind, of course THEY are angry with you giants who do such, who support such. The right to life for the innocent should not be violated. Hill giants and ogres are guilty of that as regards the small ones.

"Through trade, giants and little ones could help each other. The halflings are excellent farmers. Are you giants good at farming? Yet, like as not, there are good things you could trade for with them for the food they grow. Maybe some of you could learn to farm well, too.

"But, if you think you can walk into halfling lands and kill and feast on them - those verdant lands would become as barren as the valley outside this cave has become, if you had your way. But, as we have demonstrated today, we and many many others will never allow that to come to pass.

"If all you understand is force, then we can speak that language. But, if you can be smarter than that, wiser than that - then, who knows - with mutual respect, perhaps those as large as you, and as small as my friends, could find a way to help each other, rather than kill each other. Eating sentient beings is evil. Stop doing that.

"Gold? Giants plunder our people. We want you to taste what that is like. No gold we leave. Half of the silver, though - you may keep. As a token that, at present, our goal is not to wipe your people out. However, if you feel some pain at loss, if you can find it in your soul to pity your own loss - loss of loved ones, loss of treasure, perhaps you may realize that you are causing similar pain to the 'pipsqueaks' you and your kind plan war against. Is there any possibility in the Wold that any one of you could find it in your heart to pity the poor family of the halfling your cooks have roasted, and perhaps some of you have eaten?

Once Pressi is done saying whatever she may have to say, he adds, "We will leave you here in this room. On the way out we will cast a few spells. It should be safe for you to leave this room after an hour. Think things over." He sets down with a solid clink the bag (or bags) filled with half of the silver off to one side, escorts orc-Pressi out the room, shuts the door.

One more thing: He has been considering what he might do as an earth elemental to move or shape stone, or at least break it, cause it to fall. He wants to try to meld or form the stone of the walls to join with that of the door. If he can think of a way, he will try it. If not, as a druid there may be a possibility. As he walks through the doorway, he prays earnestly to Eberyon that he grant him the power to shape stone, substituting stone shape for plant growth - and, along with the prayer, spending a hero point to allow the substitution. If this works, he casts stone shape, melding adjacent stone with the door(s). He figures that Jances and Sas are strong enough to break through, given a bit of time.

Murphy, in a stoney form and a gravelly voice, lectures the only remaining beings in the cave complex that the party has not killed about peace, love and understanding. Then he gives them some some silver pieces, explaining the party will take the rest of the gold so these concubines understand what it’s like to have their money taken. The women back away from him, and from the corpse of an ogress lying in a pool of blood on the floor.

Murphy prays to Eberyon to change his spells, but senses no change. He is unable to affect the stone door beyond what he could normally do.

Pressi seems to have a soft spot for these women. She even leaves about 50 GP of the jewelery for them.

As Pressi goes, the giantess says, “If you killed Dolp, then Hairshirt will be in charge now. I hope he rewards you well.” The others look sullen and remain silent.

As Alleah leaves, she grabs any papers from the central table. All she gets are a couple crudely made drawiings - one is a wolf, and one seems to be a naked woman. These hill giants do not seem to have been a very literate bunch.

Kezzem, Shel and Bliss move out. Sky and Meko follow along. Bliss peers out into the larger camp area. If anyone alerted others about what happened in Dolp’s cave either help has not yet arrived, or no one cared.

As you all exit the cave complex, you seem to go unnoticed. Maybe. What precautions do you take? Where do you go? Some of you are still injured.

Another player posed a couple questions. Here are come clarifications for all:

Time? Let's call it round 38 relative to the earlier tracking.

Hairshirt's cave? Last you recall, a goblin pointed you in a general direction. That was about a half a mile across this valley filled with encamped giants and ogres. You also see orcs and goblins scurrying around working and trying not to become a target. And wolves here and there.

Still disguised? Bliss is, though he is actually actually rather conspicuous when he's not hiding. There are no goblin children here - goblins raise their children in pens. Alleah looks like a goblin, Pressi looks like an orc, and Murphy looks like an ambulatory rock. Then you have Sky, Kezzem and Shel. And a wolf and a bird. You do see wolves about, but you notice it would be unusual to see a goblin leading or riding a wolf.

We would need invisibility for Sky, Kezzem and Shel, and would it last long enough for us to get to Hairshirt's Cave? Murphy can walk under us, right? Are we even up for tackling Hairshirt? How long would it take us to get there ... and find the right cave? Should we hide and rest up? Try for Hairshirt tomorrow?"

Mookie, entranced with the silver raven, looks it over for a word of command hidden on it. Mookie's Spellcraft to ID a magic item, at +1, is an 18! But oh well, he would need a nat 20.

"We need to rest, rejuvenate, before we even think about taking on Hairshirt, if that is what we are going to do," Murphy says in a gravelly whisper. "Four times a day I can change shape. I've done so three times - eagle, bat, and now earth elemental." He gives an earthy smile. "It's fun to swim through rock and dirt."

He adds, "I know right where Hairshirt's cavern is. I flew there a few hours ago." His countenance grows dark. "A halfling was partly chopped up, getting ready to be cooked." He broods for a moment. "Dolp's lady said that now Hairshirt is in charge, with Dolp gone."

"Ideally, we would go to attack him now. We might prevail. But our firepower will be much less. Also, would it be safe to return and remain overnight in our cave? A few of the goblins know where we are holed up. As the rest of you return there for now, I could burrow up the hillside a ways, and once up a few hundred feet, change into a smallish bird, first watch what happens as people discover what happened in the cave. After that, do some scouting, find another spot for us, then meet you at our current cave, and guide you to a new spot."

"By the way, friends all, you did well."

I think resting is a good idea as well. Stone giants are a bit tougher than the hill giants like Dolp. I'd bet Dolp has been second in command, now I doubt he was smart enough to realize that. While thanks to you all I'm cured and ready to go, but your alls magic helped out a lot, I'd say we'll need it again. I say we head back and use the illusion thing you mentioned Alleah.

Plans and next steps are discussed. The general consensus seems to be for rest before any more fighting. Alleah suggests that she could cover the entrance to a hiding cave with an illusion. Shel casts invisibility on herself.

The party moves cautiously out of the cave, back the direction you’d originally come from. Shortly after you start out, you are spotted by a goblin and he gestures silently for you to approach. As you advance, you recognize the goblin Knucklehead, and he seems very glad to see you. He rushes forward and grabs Alleah’s goblin hand.

“Oh, me so glad to see you survived, I tells you that pickle protect you! You comes back with us, the others want to see if you alive! Come!”

He accompanies you, and you arrive at the goblin camp you left. You see a mixture of happiness and anger at your appearance, and the goblins there seem to be muttering and exchanging coins and juicy bugs from losers to winners.

The one eyed goblin named Socket has his knife out and gestures with it as he speaks, but not in a threatening manner. “So. You survived. How far you get into Dolp’s lair before he sends you packing? Me surprised you ain’t been et.” The fat goblin named Bungleak says, “Yeah, me loose money on you. How’d you gets out?” Bizig whom you first met says, “Me knew you makes it back. What happen? Did you see Dolp? How you escape? Knucklehead sure happy you back, or one of you at least.”

Knuckle has not let go of Alleah’s hand. “Oooo so glad. You strong an brave! We make some brave babies! Wanna start now?”

There are other camps not far from you, some goblin and orc, some giant. Given the general din, it seem unlikely they’d overhear you unless you raise your voices.

If no one else thought of it, Murphy took the multiple ringed ears necklace belonging to one of the ogres. He changed back to his halfling self, stuck the necklace into a bag and then inside his haversack, just before the group left the caverns. His head he covers with a cloak, and some shabby piece of cloth torn from a non-bloody portion of one of the ogre's clothing.

"Thank you for the blessed pickle you gave her, there, Knuckle." He will leave it to the discretion of others as to how much they decide to tell their goblin allies.

He considers the multiplicity of empty caves he has looked into so far on both sides of the valley.

To the goblins, he says, "What do you say about going to the other side of the valley? Take us there, and we can get you a bit of silver, a bit of gold."

He expects within the next, oh, say half hour to hour, to hear some great din coming from the area the party left behind. In halfling (and Sylvan, for Bliss's sake), he suggests that before that happens, the group works its way across the valley, and holes up in one of the caves he found in the vicinity of the other leader's area.

Murphy is also keeping his eyes and ears alert to the presence of Castor, the invisible goblin whom they lost track of earlier.

Since nobody answered Socket, Pressi answered for them. "We walked out. Killed basically everyone in the cave that angered us, killed Dolp, raided their fridge, made some long distance phone calls, stole the ballots that would have made "La La Land" best picture.... standard operating procedure, really.

"So yeah, I think it might be time to find some place to rest, recover, and decide our second act."

As the rest of the group waits and plans, Pressi, back in her halfling form, sits by the side, the drawings of the naked woman and the wolf flipping through her hands. Any comments inevitably made by teammates gets ignored as she tries to figure out why these pictures....

"In my death I had a vision of two wolves in the forest," the priestess had said.

Setting the pictures down, she reached in her bag and pulled out one of the leathery rolls. "Lets see what secrets you have," she tells it as she unrolls the leather slowly.

Bliss feels anxious in the goblin camp. He stays hidden and thinks about either going scouting or summoning a cauldron to sleep under.

Mookie interrupts these musings, bringing over the wondrous figure of the silver raven to his master. "Kid! Hey, Kid! Show me how to turn on this fembot."

Bliss grins. "Well, you can start by buying her a drink."

Mookie caws and falls over, laughing. "I see I ain't wasting my time with you, after all, Kid!"

Bliss casts Detect Magic and Guidance, then peers at the magic item. Spellcraft check is a nat 1.

"Sorry, I got no idea, Mooks old pal. Go ask Miss Shel or Miss Alleah."

The raven walks over to the casters in the party.

"Hey! Any of youse dames got an Identify for this old thing?"

"Pretty please?"

She moves to Murphy, and adds, "That's a good plan, Murphy. If Dolp gets discovered, we need to be as far away as possible. The other side of the valley sounds good to me."

Murphy, having changed back to his halfling form, hides beneath his cloak. Then he removes some clothing from one of the ogres to throw over himself. Whew - what a stench! This ogre clothing has not been washed in a while. Murphy resists the urge to retch. He also makes sure he has that string of dried ears, which makes him want to retch again.

Most are amused at Alleah’s romantic dilemma. It even inspires Kezzem to poetry, which is no small feat, as he has to rhyme with the word “pickle.”

Alleah, however, is not amused by Knucklehead’s advances. She launches into the time honored it’s-not-you-it’s-me response to her would-be suitor. Knucklehead looks crestfallen. Once again, you see a mixture of happiness and anger amongst the goblins, as they exchange coins and juicy bugs from losers to winners. Knucklehead spits on the ground and walks away, sullen and silent.

Pressi responds to Socket’s question, answering that your group killed all in Dolp’s lair. This is met with scoffs and looks of disbelief, and a few shrewd and appraising looks at the halflings. Pressi puzzles over the crude drawings, and then looks at the 6 thick rolls of parchment. Her discovery is more horrific than the string of ears, as she finds that these are whole skins of human women, carefully preserved and rolled up. Rolled up in one of them is a piece of paper that reads, “Uthvas.”

Bliss and Mookie discuss the silver raven figurine, and they ask if anyone can identify it. Shel does, and finds that it is a:

Silver Raven Figurine of Wondrous Power - This silver figurine turns into a raven on command (but it retains its metallic consistency, which gives it hardness 10). Another command sends it off into the air, bearing a message just like a creature affected by an animal messenger spell. If not commanded to carry a message, the raven obeys the commands of its owner, although it has no special powers or telepathic Abilities. It can maintain its nonfigurine status for only 24 hours per week, but the duration need not be continuous.

At the offer of coin to lead you all across the valley, Bizig and Gutplug enthusiastically offer to lead you, but not for less than 5 gold for each of you, including the wolf - 40 gold in all! Mookie is offended he does not count, but is smart enough to keep his mouth shut. The rest of the goblins immediately begin to argue that this is not fair, and before you know it you have 8 goblins competing to lead you for this price. Even Knucklehead seems to have shaken off his sulking at the opportunity to earn some money. Eventually, all agree to go and split the coins.

The goblins show you that with cloaks drawn over your heads and carrying wood or rocks, you look much like the goblins moving through the camps at various tasks and chores. You also find that Meko can simply follow a few paces behind and go largely unnoticed. He makes the goblins nervous. You are occasionally stopped, but one of your new goblin friends quickly moves up to make a threat or an excuse, and you’re on your way again. It takes you about half an hour to cross the valley.

As you go, there is some commotion that erupts in the camp. You see stone giants moving here and there barking orders. The goblins will learn and tell you that rumors are spreading that Dolp was attempting to summon some demons to defeat the stone giants, but that the demons turned on him and he was torn to shreds for his folly. The stone giants offer that Hairshirt will bring together all the giants, and lead them to victory and riches and food. They say that Hairshirt is even negotiating for additional giant allies.

The goblins look at you all with a mixture of fear and respect. It seems they bear no loyalty or love for any giant here. Some murmur that you may all be demons in disguise. Having crossed the encampment, the goblin await their payment. What do you give them? Where now? How to you secure your area to rest?

Despite his early revulsion at the stench of the ogre's clothing, Murphy knows that, where olifactory issues are concerned, one can move from being overwhelmed to growing accustomed to, if not fond of, strong smells.

Murphy asks Kezzem to pull out 100 gp from what he gathered from the giants. He tells the goblins, "Here is what we promised to pay you," trying to distribute the pay in a manner that does not draw too much attention to the group, each one getting his 6 gold pieces - 42 gp total (two more than they had asked for - but there are 7 of them). As he is paying Knucklehead, he slips him a folded letter, and whispers, "This is a love letter. Write your name at the bottom. Write the name of your love at the top. Don't do it now - save it for later."

To the goblins in general, he says, "Take turns to watch over the area overnight. Some of us will sleep, some of us will watch. An hour before the sun rises, I will be awake. Tell me - tell us who are awake then - what you have learned overnight. Just listen. Don't ask too many questions. Just find out what others around the camp are saying. Each of you will get more gold pieces if you have good information, and a few silver pieces, too. Do you agree?"

Murphy earlier in the day had flown into or near several caves off to the left of Hairshirt's cave entrance. Based upon what he had seen, he recommends to the party whichever one seems to have the most to recommend it, and not too close to Hairshirt's place (maybe 5 to 15 caves down).

Once the cave is chosen, Murphy quietly discusses with the party members the following. He reminds them they were told that orcs and goblins usually sleep during the day; giants usually sleep at night - but these giants seem to stay up pretty late. "Best time to attack? Between 6 and 9 in the morning, maybe?"

Murphy prays for spells at about 7 every morning. "How does attack half past eight sound? We have breakfast, we prepare in other ways, then try operation decapitation phase two. How do we get in? This time around the guards may be on a higher stage of alertness."

He adds that the invisible goblin, Castor, may be informing or helping out Hairshirt, now that Dolp is gone.

He can shape-change into up to four creatures a day, including elementals, various birds, mammals, reptiles, and the like. He is also a perception monkey.

- A stage dagger. The unsharpened but dangerous-looking blade retracts into the handle for sparring practice or the theatre. (Works thus until February 20, 2018) (Shel and Cayzle have stage daggers, too)
- Large two-key lock. This large lock requires two keys to be turned in unison to open. The two keys are included - all kept in a velvet pouch. (Works until 1/3/2018)

Mookie bows to Shel, saying, "Thanks, toots, you're the tops."

He commands the silver raven to turn into a real raven, then to bow to Shel and say thank you, then to turn off. She does so.

Bliss and Mookie travel with the group to the new location, and he helps pitch in for goblin payment if needed. When it is time to rest, Bliss casts his Cauldron Summoning spell for shelter for the night. That's good for total cover, with Bliss and Mookie sleeping under it when it is not their watch.

From within the cauldron, Bliss says, "Mookie, your new girlfriend is too hard to make a good pillow."

The familiar caws, "Well, get your head off her then, duh. And next time call a bigger cauldron!"

There are many sounds of shifting and moving around in there until things settle down.

"You know Alleah, Knucklehead seems awfully keen to make those babies," says Kezzem. "Nothing crude, he's always talking about making babies. He must really want to be a dad. I bet he'd be a fun dad."

Kezzem assists Murphey in passing out the coins to the goblins. "You get some gold pieces! You get some gold pieces! Everybody get's some gold pieces!"

Alleah feels a little sad that she had to say no to Knucklehead. She didn't expect him to fall that hard or that quick. "I wonder what mother would have thought if I'd brought a goblin home?"

"I really need to rest and recover my spells. If I can do that during the first watch like I typically do, then I can create a silent image over the entrance to the cave for the remaining watches. Should help us a little I guess"

Shel agrees with Aleah. "I need to be on first or last watch, so I can get my rest and be prepared for the raid in the morning. Before we run off all half cocked, maybe Murphy and Bliss and Mookie can scout out Hairshirt's cave and make sure they haven't changed things around with the news about the hill Giant's death. We will need to be even more careful to get in and out unseen."

Pressi practically recoils from the rolls as she realizes what they are. Shoving them away, she rises to get up with the rest of the group.

She can't help but smile as the goblins begin to hear the rumors. "Do not listen to them arguing that it must be demons. They need you to believe, to fear, but even a goblin could kill Hairshirt when right is on his side. Just think about what you saw this evening."

Moving up in the order, she told Kezzem to knock it off. Turning to Alleah, she asked in all seriousness how the shy witch was doing. "I know that breaking up must be hard for you. Let me know if you ever need backup." She is capable of doing a middle watch and still recover her "spells" of punching and more punching. She also checks in with Murphy to see how he is doing.

As for his list of gear, since nobody else seems interested, she puts in a claim for the hammer or the stage dagger, leaving the enlarge mushroom for a non-shifter. As for the lock, she points out that there is only one purpose for a two key system - to make sure that the contents of the chest can't be reached by any outsider. She suggests that he either control the lock and first key or give it to someone he trusts, but someone else he trusts should get the second key.
