Pru tries for a Scorching Ray--or rather, two, since that's how many the spell will give her. Two fiery rays shoot from her hands toward Rock Monster 3.

Her rays cast, she moves closer to Nikolai. Purely for strategic reasons. [Move to about D-5.]

Sigvar contemplates following Trayvin, healing would allow him to get back into the fight. He contemplates hitting the elemental that Akir and Prudence have wounded, but is not sure he can drop it, and if he doesn't, knows it will drop him. so he again withdraws moving to G,H/12,13.

With all of the other Agents retreating or having fallen back, Akir signals them to keep going and regroup. He had achieved his primary goal, giving Prudence room to work her magic.

Flying back out of it's range, significant damage already done, he starts peppering it with Ray of Frost, trying to keep it in the same area while the others heal and devise a new plan. In the mean time, he would keep harassing this one out of it's reach, and try to lure it into the auditorium, where there was a solid floor that might foil some of it's elemental bonuses, specifically it's Earth Mastery and it's Earth Glide.

Concentration check pass. Fly check pass.

He was thankful that being airborne would make it harder for it to hit him. (I think you've been accounting for it, but earth elementals are -4 to hit flying targets.)

Trayvin moves with Michael into the citadel. The two of them look around for support and combat crews. Strangely enough, there is no one to be found inside the citadel. Surely this is not the sign of an organized military command, but then again these are not normal times. They remember that there was a mass exodus from the cells and the citadel when the earth first started moving. There is rubble around near where the cells had been and a caved-in area there. The rest of the citadel seems to be standing, but there are a number of blocks slightly out of place and cracks in walls that are clearly new. There is a lot of dust on the ground from shifting blocks. If they head up one of the towers, there is sure to be heavy equipment up there.

Pru fires rays at rock monster 3. The fire clearly scorches the surface of the creature and the two large gem eyes turn towards Pru. It starts sliding across the ground towards her, but she quickly moves and back away from its slow approach, reaching Nikolai around the corner of some buildings.

Sigvar heads that direction, the large monster near him instead turning to attack the store on the other side of the road and crack. Sigvar can hear the splintering of the boards as it smashes them, and small bits of wood splinter and fly away in the wind. As Sigbar turns the corner, he grabs Pompous to keep him moving with the group, and he might spot the tiny bat flying over the edge of the wall, easily flying against the twirling winds above him. Akir moves as well along the side of the beast and a massive blob of dirt reaches into the sky for him, almost knocking him from the air (11 damage). He flies over the auditorium and freezes a small bit of the surface of the creature.

As Nikolai and Pru look back to see if the others are coming, they are distracted by a flash of light right next to them. A large circle appears and two very large figures appear in the circle, completely out of this air: minotaurs! The wind continues to whip and turn around the area and bits of dirt and rock fly through the air, propelled by the strong gusts.

Yes, I was using the -4 for flying creatures (I think everywhere), thanks for pointing that out.

Nikolai only expects more enemies or the gods themselves to appear during this chaos. Some struggle in the godly realms spilling over into their wold. Considering which gods they've had any sort divergent gods they've had contact with, it must be quite the chaos up there as well that they'd target the Mailed Fist.

This is it, she thinks. This is where I die. There's no way we can defeat these rock monsters and a couple of well-armed minotaurs.

But if she's going to go, she's going to take this stupid rock monster with her! She tries again to cast a spell.

A large white haired Minotaur with bronze horns, hooves and mane wearing a leather jerkin with a hood that covers most of his head, appears to look around quickly and seemingly make his decision.
Loud enough that the two closest other than Bosk can hear, "We're Iron Dragons, we've come to help with your problem. Unless you'd rather we leave and come back at a later time when you're not quite so busy?" Over their link, *Bosk, want to start with the closest one, I'll go to the far end, we'll meet in the middle, Haste coming in* (Dragon Consortium Rings allow communication over any distance on same plane, with any or all Dragon Ring bearers, Bosk will always hear what Zane says while we are here)

A dark mist that coalesces into into an ethereal shadow sweep across the land, slowly condensing into the solid form of a large minotaur...or at least you think it is minotaur. Tall even by taur standards, the 9 1/2 ft tall figure is a commanding presence. Perhaps it is the 10 ft bastard sword slung across his back, a third eye in the center of his forehead, or that he casts no shadow in the Wold.

Casually he picks a couple strands of the remaining shadow off his steelgrass armor and flick them into the wind where the instantly dissolve. Looking closer you notice his armor covered by a black pea-coat sewn of chimera skin. The material is strangely soft and warm, thick enough that it conceals any weapons or armor underneath yet light enough to be cool to wear in the sun, and the way the end sweeps just above the floor as he walks sends a chill down your spine...or perhaps it is that is is actually radiating cold as wisps of dark fog seep from underneath his cloak.

Where the armor doesn't cover you can see the scorpions moving through his fur. Not crawling on top of it or under it, within in it as a ghost passes through a wall or a tattoo through the skin. If that were not strange enough, a silver Holy Symbol like you have never seen before is emblazoned on his forehead and in the center of it is living third eye darting left and right.

On his breast is the adamantium emblem with the IA Shield worn by the Iron Adventurer's before they became known as the Iron Dragons.

Gripping his sword he turns towards the voice demanding he declare himself. In the common tongue he calls back, I speak common, and it looks like we do not have time for pleasantries. I am Bosk DeOx of the Iron Dragons. The Dragon Consortium sent us over here to see what is going on. Strange things as happening across the Wold. Most involve unusual attacks and bizarre weather happenings. So how bout you tell us whats going on and we help you deal with what ever has your hackles raised. In a joking tone he adds with a laugh, If you still want to fight after that we, can sell tickets and do it proper.

The Horned Cleric waits long enough for the others to explain what is going on, and for Zane to cast his spell. The blond taur then charges forward to meet elemental #3 head on. Take a moment to regroup and cast what spells you must. We can delay them that long. Can you heal yourselves? If so I will head off the closest elemental. If not, I will do what I can before stalling it.

Iron Dragons? Zane Stormfront and Bosk DeOx? Maybe they were not going to die today buried by some immense extraplanar pile of dirt after all. Sigvar knew of these two Taurs even though he had never met them. Realizing they are here to help he reports as best he can.
" Well met."
"There were four of the elementals, we put down one and damaged two of the others. They are heavily resistant to damage, but energy attacks seem unaffected. They came from the crack in the earth. I am unsure if there are more. Our cleric went inside the Citadel to try and raise some artillery, so no we are unable to heal ourselves at this juncture."

Sigvar is what you would expect to see in a Fist raised Minotaur fighter. He is large, muscled and has a dark hide. His hair is worn in a warbraid that comes from the back of his head. Other than that he wears no hair, it is shaved so that if he chose, a helmet would fit properly. He has scars on his hide, lighter colored stripes mostly on hs forearms and torso. All of them appear to be battle wounds. The most conspicuous thing about him though is the eye patch that he wears. It covers the hole where his right eye used to be. A silver symbol of Gargul hangs around his neck. He wears heavy full plate and wields an adamantite longsword. At present he appears to have been used as a punching bag by more than one elemental. Fresh bruises overlay several more partially healed wounds on his body.

Akir, still in the air harassing the elementals, really doesn't have time to address, or notice, the newcomers at first. Scthe in hand, mithril armor covered with mud and dirt, he keeps up his game of tag with the Elder creatures.

When Bosk bursts into his field of vision, and barrels into his combat, it takes him a moment to realize it wasn't Sigvar coming back to the battle. Akir ponders the new arrival for a moment. It was attacking the elementals, so he wasn't going to say or do anything to stop him, even if it was a hostile force.

Instead, he figured he will take advantage of the newcomer. Akir flies close enough to get his spells in range for the next closest elemental, and fires another ray of cold into it, to pull it towards the new arrivals.

Concentration: Succes
Fly: Success, to X-10. Possibly, he can lure the elemental into the fires. It was worth a try.
Hit Touch AC 24 for 2 cold damage.

The earth is stable, but the winds are not. They continue to howl and twist. Just when you attempt to hold yourself against a strong wind in one direction, the winds change to push and shove you about. At the same time, small bits of rock and debris are blowing around, making it hard to get a good look at a distance. If you are not careful, you will get a mouthful of debris.

Sigvar runs up to the new arrivals, yelling at them in the wind, trying to determine if he should attack them or not. Nikolai turns as well and prepares for battle. Pru spots the new arrivals and turns her back to them, instead focusing on the rock monster. The rays strike true and the monster appears angered. It starts running down the road towards Pru.

Zane announces himself and takes to the air, hasting those around him. Bosk yells in the wind back at Sigvar’s challenge. He does not wait for a response and instead runs directly past the stunned Sigvar and drives straight into the giant pile of rock and dirt. He sword chops deep into the creature and chunks of rock fall to the ground, but other pieces of dirt appear to fill in at least part of the hole made by the sword. Anna watches them attack and decides to change into a dinosaur because she hasn’t changed into everything she knows quite yet. It is a little tight in the spaces between the auditorium and the buildings, but she can clearly move about.

Akir lets those on the ground handle such things, though one of the new arrivals has already taken to the air. Akir flies over and beyond the first elemental and towards the fire. He fires a cold ray at another of the piles of rock and watches as tiny bits of rock and dirt freeze and fall of the monster. The beast does not seem to notice and instead keeps smashing into and through the wooden building. Akir can see the other monster head across the field and towards other buildings.

Meanwhile, Trayvin and Michael quickly move into a tower. They can still hear the wind howling outside, but the jaunt up the stairs is a nice break from the twisting, non-stop winds. That break is short as they arrive at the top of the tower and step right back out into the wind. They arrive and look out over the town and the monsters. On the top of the tower is a ballista that can be used.

Ballista: a huge, heavy crossbow. Normal crew is one, so two working together will help. It does 3d8 damage. Normally it takes 2 rounds to load it, but I think two working together with Fist training can reduce that to one round. So one round to load, then one to fire.

Zane, still hovering in midair lets out a beastial roar and full volume, as he does so his entire form, except his wings begins to change and morph. In the mere moments that the change took, he shifted from a mostly white Minotaur with bronze wings and various parts, he turned into a full bronze dragon. With Haste he flies at 120' so he launches himself like an arrow towards one of the further elementals.
He puts himself between elemental #1 and Akir, staying in midair at a melee range of the creature.....

Sigvar is happy the Iron Dragons have shown up to help them, but he is not going to let them be the only ones to finish the fight they started. He steps around Bosk and as he draws even with the Grim Avenger he lashes out with his blade to help defeat the Elemental in front of them.

Pru's religious training momentarily fails her, but she is able to recognize that one of the minotaurs is an outsider, and wonders what it might mean.

But there is little time to ponder that. Pru looks up and realizes there are now some stalwart fighters between her and the rock monsters--and that the ground has stopped shaking. "Domi be praised," she murmurs.

She tries another spell. A sickly green ray springs from her hand and heads toward Rock Monster 3. [Wind check 70=success. Cast Ray of Enfeeblement. Hit Touch AC 14 for a 6-point penalty to Strength. A DC 18 Will save reduces that to a 3-point penalty.]

For the newcomers, Pru is a young human woman, quite pretty if you like that sort of thing. Her red-brown hair is pulled into a single long braid, which just now is whipping about in the wind like an agitated snake.

Normally, Nikolai would show any friendly newcomers the proper respect and welcome, but right now he's really in a bad mood. Not only has he been ineffective against these creatures, his Fist is split up, the Mailed Fist 'army' has disappeared, the town is being demolished, the evil sorceress that they took pains to catch and keep alive got away when the prison cell walls were busted, and all this wind is making a big mess with Pru's beautiful hair!

However he simmers down a little when the one called Bosk mentions the Dragon Consortium. His father, Alexi Komonv had mentioned the Dragon Consortium but that was all, he just heard his dad mention it once with some old friends. On the other hand, his father had not indicated any ill will or disdain towards the group either.

Nikolai answers back, "Normally, the Mailed Fist is the one to be called to solve problems, not call for help to solve our problems. However, since you appeared on your own volition, and seem willing and eager to bash a bunch of rock monsters into a gravel pile, I'd hate for you to have wasted your time in coming here. Perhaps we can use their remains in part of the rebuilding of the Citadel. We won't refuse any healing, that would be foolish considering we know not how many more lurk in that crevice. So heal who you can. The buildings can be rebuilt, but we don't really want to pay Gargul another visit."

Nikolai does not intend for his Fist to sit back and let these two go at it alone. Ana and the others are already back into the fight. At this point he needs to think of something he can do and this is the first time he's been able to take a look at things without getting pummeled.

In the air next to Zane, Akir suddenly feels a bit more emboldened. He finally recognizes the two, Bosk and Zane, Iron Dragons. Likely sent from the consortium to their aid, though how the Dragon Consortium could react so quickly was beyond him.

Or way it? It wasn't that long ago Pavillion was leading attacks into neutral territories. It made sense they might be watching the Citadel.

Akir is a broad man, strong muscled and with dark skin. His beard and hair are black, and his armor worn in a style that accented his heavy traveling robes. (Sort of like Moorish armor and weaponry). He brandishes his scythe at the elemental on the other side of Zane.

"Come along then you slab of rock! We will crush you to pieces and use you for mortar and gravel!"

To grab it's attention, he casts his last memorized spell. The guttural sounds of the language of Necromancy call out over the harsh winds, and a beam of black magic slams into the elemental.

Concentraion Fail: Hero point to succeed.
Ray of Exhaustion hits touch AC 22. Fort save DC 18 or enemy is Exhausted, if passed, enemy is Fatigued and can become exhausted if it does anything strenuous, presumably to include combat.

As the others gather around him Bosk takes a step forward, hoping to draw the enemies attacks away from the others and casts mass cure moderate wounds on everyone within 105 ft of him. I am not the best healer, having sacrificed some of that ability for some more unique ones, but I will do what I can and hopefully soak of some of this things attacks as well. You guys focus on taking it down and not getting hit.

Zane turns into a bronze dragon and flies across the battlefield, right in front of Akir! Akir watches him arrive and continues his assault on the other elemental, striking it with a black ray that burns into the surface of the rock.

Sigvar, not to be outdone by the new arrivals, steps up to combat the rushing elemental. He jumps up and attacks the elemental, sword slicing into the creature deeply. At the same time, Pru fires a green ray at the pile of rock. The massive allasaurus jumps forward and takes out a chunk of mountain with a bite. That’s the final blow and the pile of dirt drops into a massive, unmoving heap as the wind blows small bits of rock and dirt off the top of the heap. Pompous watches the quick defeat of the huge creature while Bosk heals those around him.

Michael and Trayvin work together and manage to get the ballista loaded. They start to turn it as they pick out an enemy towards which to aim it.

Nikolai yells at the newcomers, unsettled by the events of the day. He moves around and takes in the battlefield.

Ballista: a huge, heavy crossbow. Normal crew is one, so two working together will help. It does 3d8 damage. Normally it takes 2 rounds to load it, but I think two working together with Fist training can reduce that to one round. So one round to load, then one to fire.

Flying requires a fly check, DC 12 to remain steady. Failure means you are blown away in the wind.
Flying combat maneuvers require a DC 15 fly check.
Casting a spell while flying in this wind requires a concentration check, DC 15+spell level

Anna-saurus lets out a bellow at the broken dirt pile and then pounces elemental number 1 this time.

This time three of her attacks strike true. She sinks her teeth into the rocks and then follows up with both a foreclaw and a rake from her hind leg.

Anna-saurus thinks her teeth have found purchase against it's graggy exterior and if possible she starts to grapple with the creature so that her friends and new allies should have an easier time hitting it.

Feeling healed and confident that the Iron Dragons are here to help, considering one is already bashing earth elementals, Nikolai focuses on getting back into the Citadel. None of his attacks will do any damage to the enemy and none of his distraction efforts were of any significant help so there was no point in putting his body through more torture by running around in front of the elementals. His team was working as best they could to dispatch the enemy and no order from him to do otherwise would be listened to, so he hastily skirts the battle zones and returns to the Citadel to find Commander Palance and report the progress of the battle.

Pru quickly moves up and around the group and strategically drops a fireball. The explosion is massive and fanned by the wind, hitting both of the rock monsters and a smaller building that quickly catches fire. Zane ignores the fire and slips closer to the massive beast, chopping into it and knocking very large pieces of rock and dirt off it and onto the ground. About the same time, a massive ballista bolt from Michael and Travin flies in from the side, slamming into the monster. Akir bashes the beast and Pompous sends arrows into the body of it while the massive Allosaurus pounces on the pile of rock and dirt. As it does, the pile crumbles into the mouth and arms of the best and Anna-saurus is left holding a pile of dirt and rock. The remaining creature heads for the buildings to the north.

Nikolai heads inside the citadel to find commander Palence and determine what is going on. He finds more rubble and cracked walls as he heads through the entrance.

Nikolai continues looking for the commander. Why were the Mailed Fist, the best fighting mercenary force with many veteran commanders simply vanished when the Citadel was under attack? Would Commander Palance be forced to abdicate her position considering the total lack of organization and discipline in defending the Citadel?

Or was this some strange game the gods of the Wold were playing with Nikolai's Fist?

Trayvin helps Michael reload the ballista, but the battle seems to be moving away from the Citadel, he wasn't sure how much longer the creature would still be in range. The Iron Dragons certainly turned the tide of the battle.

The horned cleric assesses the situation and watches the buildings blaze. Deciding the others have the elementals under control he charges towards one of the larger fires and prepares to cast stone shape on it in order to smother the fire. Over the dragon's magic communication ring he calls to Zane Help them with the elemental. I am going to try to stop the spread of this fire before it spreads to more buildings. If things look bad, let me know and I will join you.

THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT Michael screams as they maneuver the ballista into position. once loaded and ready to rock he screams LET'S TAKE TURNS FIRING IT! YOU MIGHT BE A BETTER SHOT THAN ME!, he takes a breath, lets it out slowly and squeezes the trigger.

To hit AC 23 for 17 damage.

He then drops the end, and starts working the windlass to pull the cable back. once done he switches places with Trayvin.

Zane appears to move casually through the twisting winds to the last elemental. He bites down and takes a large chunk of rock and dirt out of the creature, and it almost seems to stumble from the blow. Sigvar heads in that direction as Akir runs up to the monster and also slices deeply into it, another small pile of rock torn from it’s body. Anna-saurus runs along and pounces on the creature, trying to dig into it. Despite her large size, she has difficulty grasping the moving mounds of dirt and does not appear to bother it much. Pru fires some missiles at the monster and it seems almost like the creature is starting to reduce in size a little. Trayvin and Michael fire a ballista bolt at the creature and start the reloading process.

Bosk sees that the monster appears well in hand and heads over to the fires.

Meanwhile, Nikolai starts looking around the inside of the citadel. The place appears to be abandoned. He runs down a hallway or two and ends up heading for Palence’s office. When he arrives, he sees her sitting at her desk, staring into space. She is not saying anything, is not moving, and might not even be blinking. She doesn’t not have any visible injuries, but she does not appear to be moving at all.

Sigvar sees that he is never going to reach the last elemental before the others destroy it, so he heads back to the wall and retrieves his shield. He then starts looking for somewhere to secure a rope to go down into the crack to have a look around, His thoughts are that something down there wanted out and that is what caused all of this. Maybe if they can figure out what happened i will shed light on what is going on.

Bosk pulls out a scroll of stone shape and makes a low, thin dome to cover the flames in order to deprive them of air and snuff them out. He knows he doesn't have the resources to put out all the fires, but every bit helps. He then joins the others at the pit, figuring he can channel energy and heal the others of some of their wounds nothing else is crawling out.

One group surrounds the remaining monster and starts chopping away. While Trayvin and Michael reload the ballista, Zane is a flurry of wings and claws as he continues his assault. Pru summons some magic and is glad to see that it appears to be working normally as she launches more missiles at the beast. Anna-saurus jumps up and attacks while looking wistfully at the dragon above. Akir continues his assault as well and the third monster collapses as well into a large pile of inanimate dirt and rock. Very suddenly the wind stops howling. The air is suddenly quiet except for the cracking of the burning fires.

Sigvar heads over to the massive crack in the ground and prepares to apparently rappel down into the massive hole from which the earth elementals appeared.

Bosk works on making some domes over a fire. He manages to put out one fire and leaves a dome of stone over where a house used to stand. Then he heads over to join Sigvar.

Pompous runs back to the citadel to find Nikolai. Nikolai looks over the commander, trying to determine what has happened to her. He is not an expert, but he thinks he sees her eyes move a slight bit as he moves across the room. Whatever this is, it looks magical. As he moves in to check her out, there is a slight flash and she blinks and moves. She turns to Nikolai and jumps to her feet. She cries out, “What just happened? I was sitting here, the earth started shaking, I heard that sorcerer you brought in, then nothing! I could not move!”

"We aren't sure what happened, Commander. We may never really know what happened. But it would seem that the gods are playing around with us. There are two we'd like you to meet. If you are up to it, follow us outside. These two appear to be friends and helped us in a vicious battle against monstrous earth elementals. They say they are from the Dragon Consortium. Bosk joins the young first members and offers Akir a fist bump. I am afraid I do not have much magic let capable of putting out fires. It has been a busy week and my scroll supply has dwindled. Are there people from these buildings safe? If there anything we need to rescue from the flames?

You all did good today, showing wisdom in a tactical retreat and bravery in re-engaging the enemy. The Fist should be proud of your work. Now, who needs some healing. I can change some healing energy and convert some healing spells if necessary.

Zane answers Anna...
"You do know that Dragons are special in the Wold, right? There are reasons I can turn into a Dragon, but the simplest is that my Father was or is a Dragon. My mother was full blooded Taur, but as you can see by my Dragon Wings my father was a Bronze Dragon. I expect that every time I shift into a Dragon, that the full blooded Dragons know it. I also expect every time I unleash the Dragon side of my heritage to be visited by one or more of the Dragons to find out why.
When I partially transform, I'm not worried about those visits, but the full change, yeah I'm very worried.
Your shifting was somewhat familiar to me as a couple of our Iron Dragons shapeshift all the time, but I think you are different somehow from them."

Zane reaches up and lowers his hood, showing his Bronze mane against the white fur as well as the fact he wears goggles of some sort. You also can easily see the kama hanging at his waist as well as a quiver, but no other weapons are in sight.

As the elemental falls and the Wold appears to return to normal, the group starts to relax a bit. As they do, a couple people start appearing from the ends of streets and behind buildings, looking to see if this is really the end. Akir reaches up for a fist bump, but Zane heads over to the crack in the ground with Sigvar. Sigvar agrees to the lift and gets ready to head into the hole (it is very dark in there, taking any lights or anything?) Bosk picks up the fist bump and the Allosaurus talks to them.

Nikolai explains a bit to the commander and leads her outside. She appears a bit stiff at first, as if she had been paralyzed, but she shakes out her joins and follows along. When they reach the courtyard, they are met by Michael and Trayvin coming down from the guard tower and Pompous just coming in.

There are still two larger fires around the area and Pru is putting up multiple walls of ice to slow them down. Without the fierce wind driving them, the fire are weaker and the melting ice quickly helps reduce the fires.

"I took some damage trying to peel the creature of off Prudence. I could use your attentions, please."

Akir is more than happy to knuckle up with Bosk, the Iron Dragon. While the others talk, he starts gathering bits of broken wood and fastening them against an otherwise ruined building some fifteen feet tall. He maintains his intellectual demeanor, but he seems to be up to something.

Using a prestidigitation spell, he "draws" a very ugly likeness of the elementals on the wooden bits. He harumphs at Michael, then uses his eyes to innuendo with Michael.

"You know Michael, we should probably double check that tower you were in. Structural damage is tricky, but I'm skilled in engineering. I'll teach you how to look for it. I also think, while we are there, it might do to make sure all that rumbling didn't throw off the sites of the ballista."

He gasps in mock surprise.

"And look! There's a fine target for such a chore. Well, duty calls, I think. Lets be off!"

Michaels eyes boggle a bit, first theres these massive minotars, with dragon wings and...stuff, then Akir asks him to go help check for structural damage while standing in front of the uglyest earth elementl that Michael has ever seen. Michaels stops..he brings his hands up in a vague effort to point at every thing.

As they reach the area everyone is gathering in, Trayvin looks over the Agents and the new arrivals for injuries. He heals everyone in the area with a channel and then greets the Iron dragons. He wonders if his parents ever met anyone from the Dragon Consortium.

AnnaSaurus says to Zane, "Yes well, I'm a Morphling and as far as I know I'm the only active one at this time. There was another guy but I'm not sure what happened to him. He used to be a Taur but Queen Ma'ab allowed him to become permanently human. I still have some time on my beast shape ability so I will turn into something else and also investigate the chasm."

AnnaSaurus shifts again and once again she has taken the form of the spider creature known as an Aranea again. Between her darkvision and her climbing ability she should be able to investigate the fissure.

Zane and Sigvar converse before heading down into the crack as Sigvar waves his flaming sword around. Anna speaks to Zane and turns into a spider, heading down into the crack as well. They head down into the darkness. There does not appear to be any additional magical darkness in the hole, just no light from outside (and since it is still overcast outside, just not a lot of light, period). They proceed down and find that the crack has fresh dirt on both sides, some still dribbling a bit down into the depths of the hole. The crack continues down at least 100 feet, but the further the group goes, the more narrow the crack becomes. By 100 feet down the crack is less than 6 feet wide. There is no evidence of anything out of the ordinary in the hole, at least as far as the adventurers can see. Then again, how many have seen the inside of an earthquake before?

Akir talks to Michael and prepares a target for the ballista. Michael is quite confused at the non-chlant attitude of Akir, but he follows Akir back into the tower to see about working the ballista more. Pompous goes over to a blob of now not-movng earth and pockets a bit of dead earth elemental.

Trayvin provdes some healing as he looks around in confusion and he thanks the iron dragons for their timely help. Pru continues casting walls of ice all around and her magic seems to be completely back to normal. She can manage to get enough walls up to stop the fires from spereading. A few more people come down the streets to see the ice putting out the fires and a couple break into applause for her efforts.

Nikolai leads the commander over to Bosk (since Zane went down into the crevasse). The commander walks up to Bosk and holds out her hand in greeting. She looks a little confused, but takes over a commanding presence quickly. She says, "Greetings, I am commander Palence. This," she gestures towards the citadel, "is the citadel of the Agents of the Fist. As I understand it, we owe you our thanks and gratitude. The Agents are eternally grateful if you need arms, we are at your service."

ooc: Bosk healed most the group for 26hp earlier

Bosk too channels his healing powers, curing the agents if an additional 12hp. If any remain injured Bosk will convert his low levels to heal then, or if several remain he will cast another mass cure to fully heal everyone.

Greetings Commander. I believe your team had it under control, we just provided a little backup. As you may have heard, we are investigating strange attacks and weather phenomena across the World. We were not expecting to find a battle, but I also cannot say we were surprised. Can you please tell me what you encountered and anything you know about the situation? I have a feeling that while these are isolated attacks there must be an underlying thread that tired them together.

Zane flies back up to the surface, drops off his passenger and lands next to Bosk. His wings fold up tight to his body, but he doesn't make them vanish as some might.

"The smallest detail might be all we need to piece this scattered puzzle together, or at least enough of it to know what to do next, rather than run around putting out the fires. Know what I mean?"

Anna-Aranea climbs back up to join everyone else on the surface. She reverts back to her normal form. In place of a dinosaur or a spider magical beast stands a red haired woman wearing mithril full plate.

Anna says, "Well we had a wind storm and an earthquake here and a prisoner that we captured in the field somehow escaped while all this was going on. We also had a doomsday prophet take up camp close to the citadel."

Anna then asks Zane and Bosk, "What sort of things have been going down where you guys are from?"

OOC: added the 12hp healed.

IC: Since the commander was out of action for most of the action, Nikolai feels it best that she get back into action by getting the Fist members that are still about and organize a detail to stop the fire and rescue any trapped by the rubble. Her command presence is crucial if she intends to keep the moral up and the Mailed Fist reputation intact.

He suggest that to Commander Palance in a round about way. "Commander, we'll work with Zane and Bosk. You need to take command and get rescue operations going."

With that, he leads the two Iron Dragons to a less chaotic place where they can talk and be out of the way.

"There's not much. When we returned from our latest mission, there was this doomsayer outside the Citadel preaching about The End is Nigh! We were asked to check him out and see what he was up to as he was stirring up the townsfolk. Before we got the chance to question him about the source of this revelation, the windstorm began and the earth started to split. If that wasn't bad enough, the wind started whipping the bonfire flames into the buildings and these earth elementals came out of the crack and started bashing buildings. I took the old man into the Citadel and then came back to fight the elementals. They are tough and a lot of the damage we did to them seemed to heal over, so when you showed up, well, your help was certainly needed. Akir makes his way up the tower, Michael in tow.

"I appreciate the company Michael. It seems there's a bit of heroic intervention happening on our half today. Those two are from the Dragon Consortium, the biggest league of powerful heroes on either continent. They are made up of almost nothing but individuals who excel at combat or magic, and have a penchant for acting in the name of "good", so to speak."

He stops and looks out a tower window, watching the Taurs with the others.

"I prefer to shy away from hero worship nowadays, after Neutronis took advantage of many of our brothers. I wish the consortium well though, and appreciate their efforts."

They get to the ballista, and Akir helps Michael aim and load it.

"I felt bad you never got to fire a shot Michael. Though I don't share many of your enthusiasms, I recognize the importance for your type to have some excitement from time to time less you get bored and seek mischief instead."

Akir gazes over the destruction of the Citadel. It seems he wanted the higher vantage point to better survey as well. He points at his "dummy elemental.*, and encourages Michael. Akir does make some aiming calculations, clearly relying on mathematics and miscellaneous factors rather than his gut or some natural skill set.

"Shots clear! Clearly, we need to spot check this asset to make sure it's still acceptable for service. Fire away Michael!"

" The doomsayer was to be our task, but before we could leave the commander's office to attend to him our prisoner, a sorceress aligned with a green dragon named Slartanus somehow either blew her way out of a cell that has contained magic using prisoners before or was freed by an explosion. THEN the wind started and the earth shook. I don't know how far reaching this event has been. She may have been the focus for the trouble and we were allowed to capture her and bring her here to be at the center of it. He capture was quite easy, the dragon left her hanging and almost assured we would either kill her or capture her."
" By the way, the crack is just a crack in the earth, nothing notable down there"

Bosk checks around to make sure everyone is healed up. Then he greets commander Palence, asking for information and providing a bit about their own mission. Zane joins him in the introductions, also seeking information. Anna appears, as a normal woman in plate mail. She mentions the storms and earthquake to the new arrivals. Nikolai suggests that the commander deal with the citadel while he will deal with the new arrivals. He describes what he witnessed in the area and Sigvar joins him, adding information about a green dragon.

Commander Palence listens carefully to the various renditions of the recent occurrences. She looks down at the massive crack in the earth and the now-missing road. She also glances over at the various buildings that were destroyed or damaged by the earthquake and the fires. She looks tired. She says, “Well met, Bosk and Zane Stormfront. I am afraid I cannot add much to the discussion here, as I was held by some magical means just as the prisoner escaped. I imagine that she had something to do with that, but I’m not well-versed enough in magic to know what she did to me. I know that I could not move at all and could not hear, either.”

She sighs and continues, “I will leave you in the capable hands of my most reliable thumb, Nikolai. I have to…” She shakes her head and mumbles as she walks away, “I have to see to the citadel, or what is left of the citadel.” She looks again down the missing road, then puts her shoulders back, calling out loud towards the citadel, “Marcus! Delantan! Front and center! I’ve got messages that need to be gotten out to thumbs right now! Tolar, get the message horses ready!” She starts moving with purpose and confidence as she disappears into the citadel, trying to re-take control over the chaos.

Akir joins Michael in the tower and they talk about the dragon consortium. He helps work the ballista and prepares it for Michael to take a shot.

Pru addresses the crowd and tries to get them to work. When she points out that the fires aren’t actually out yet, a few people’s faces brighten as they realize there is still work to be done. Under Pru’s direction, they quickly set up a bucket brigade and the sizzling of fires going out is quickly heard around the small town.

Zane watches as the Commander basically walks away after handing them off. He gives a look to Bosk (read Hook board)
"So..... We started having troubles down south two days or so ago. Even though we've only been through about a day of it. I'll explain that in a moment.
We all were awoken by variations of the same dream, and apparently so was everyone else in Hook City.
The dream turned to a nightmare when each person was strangled, hung or some variation of the two involving the neck and breathing.
We then discovered some lackeys who were distributing coins which had Explosive Runes on them, which we took care of. After that we found a magical "Orb". When we explored it, I won't go into how it was decided to do the exploring, We ended up in what we think was a parallel Wold, we still aren't sure. That Wold was nothing but an ancient ruins where it seemed Marteaus seemed to have succeeded centuries ago. It was either that or we were way way far into the future. I tend to go with the second option. We were there for about what seemed an hour or so to us, when we returned, almost a day had transpired in Hook City. Where we were told of another Orb showing up.
We went and investigated that one as well. We arrived, but not all of us as some were taken elsewhere to assist a group, similar to what Bosk and I did here as well as over near Bonetown. Anyways, we were greeted by ourselves, but different, because they were arriving to investigate a giant chain that seemed anchored through a hole in the air. That was a brilliant idea of one of the Star Mages.
We got things settled, unanchored the chain and returned to our City.
About this time we started receiving calls from Consortium lookout I guess about the need for our help all over the Wold. So we split up into teams and scattered across the Wold to help out.
It sounds like this Doomsayer is somehow linked to what is going on."

Nikolai shakes his head at the idea the sorceress had anything to do with anything that just happened. "She may have orchestrated her own escape, but I'm pretty sure that the dragon Slartanus and her have nothing to do with the earth shattering events and the earth elementals. I think that she just took the advantage of the circumstances and skiddaddled. She had been dominated by Slartanus to attack us anyway so she's probably laughing at us at her fortuitous escape but with no intention of messing with us again, not voluntarily anyway.

As far as the old man, I left him at the gates with the guards. He was unconscious due to a punch in the nose by me. We should go looking for him. He should have been knocked out for a while considering his age and fragility. Who knows though. The entity or entities that caused all this could have whisked him away or he may lay crushed under a block of stone, circumstances of his own preaching. Let's go look."


With that, Nikolai leads the party to the gates and starts looking for the old man, asking here and there for him and looking for signs of splattered goo that once could have been the old man.

Michael takes his time sighting down the Ballista, he thinks deeply about what Akir has said. once satisfied he has the holdover right he trips the trigger and sends the bolt downrange.

I hear what you are saying, I think that battle killed almost everyone in the Fists hero worship. It's different with those guys though. We get and give respect in the fist because if we didn't it would erode Discipline and Morale and get folk killed and battles lost. We could go down there right now and treat those guys just as bad as we had the nerve to. it would not affect the Fist. Heck, they probably wouldn't even try to kill us, but we would not make any friends. I guess what I'm trying to say is that those guys are people just like we are. Taur people, Weird Half dragon, half spooky gaunt, moving tattoo Taur people but people just the same. I think they have different and more varied sources of information than we do so they can make more informed decisions, but they probably get it wrong sometimes too. Just like we do. Shoot from what I know of the Gods they are just People too, absolutly stupidly powerful people with knowledge far beyond ours, but even they get it wrong sometimes too. and they don't know everything, they just know a lot more than we do. So you get powerful, you become a Dragon, you are still the same guy that used to have trouble with goblins but now everybody treats you different. People lose their minds around you, fawn over you, go crazy over you, while others hate your guts, and plot your demise like its a job. there probably ain't' much in between. no just having a beer with the guys at the bar, or going out to eat or catching a play or even having a quiet day out by the creek. I'll bet they long for those days. I bet they get lonely.

Michael stares, deeply in thought, at the place where the bolt buried itself in the wooden Earth elemental effigy.

Bosk shrugs slightly at all the possible suggestions. So far there is no definitive proof of who could be orchestrating this. [b]I have thought of Queen Maab, The Fey King, and Marteaus. None of the above would surprise me.

As for Marteaus, it is not so much that he wants us to embrace our doom, but that he feels we have become soft and complacent. He wants us to constantly strive to be our best. To cull the weak and make us stronger. He wants what is best for the Wold, even if we disagree with his goals and methods.

Remember this, no mater what happens your fate and your future is in your hands. If we put our minds to it we can defeat even the gods. It has been done before. Likewise, we will weather this storm.

There's a snap as the ballistas line releases its bolt. Akir nods appreciatively at the shot.

"Excellent shot. This ballista seems unharmed. Though my crafted elemental is not as lucky. We should head down and see if Nikolai needs us I suppose."

Pru and Trayvin work with the fires and a few more citizens join them. Finally the fires are ending and there are just a few smoldering bit left. A few people stand in the street, just staring at the ruins. A couple other start sifting through the wreckage, looking for salvageable items. On one woman’s hip, a baby cries.

Akir and Michael work the ballista and gain some experience with it. They also have some philosophical discussions about men and gods. From the tower, they can spot a sole man limping down the street from the road to the east. He looks to be struggling to move and appears as if he may be injured.

Zane describes his experiences elsewhere in the Wold. Anna voices her theories about the events in the Wold and Bosk comments as well. Sigvar and Nikolai lead the group to search for the old man that Nikolai knocked out. He is quickly found still lying where he had been left by Nikolai. The guards that were there are nowhere to be found. He is not moving, but does not look as if he has any additional injuries.

Michael grins. He used to have conversations like this with Tinker, weighing the various merits of Utility vs Morality, The consequences of Evil acts in the context of universal law. He made Michael think, it's different with Akir, he's smoother, more light-hearted, in his way. Not so gruff and plain-spoken as Tink. but it fills a place in Michael and a part of him relaxes. he didn't know till this moment that he needed to think about things like this. the path of right and wrong is a narrow one, and walking it blind is hard.

He spies the lone man limping and points him out. then moves to go check on him.

Bosk nods in agreement as he casts cure spells on those in must need (converting his lvl 1 spells). Turning to Anna he says, you are probably right. The common thread here appears to be the involvement of nature. Earthquakes, storms, and fog. There has also been at least one mention of a sleeper, but that might be a local phenomena. I am not an expert on the gods, other than Gargul and Jancassis.

This could be a newly awakened power or some long forgotten god from before the first cataclysm. The teucri greening or daemons from some demi plane. It is just too early to tell.


The Horned Cleric gently shakes the old man in an attempt to wake him and uses his death watch ability to check on the man's state and will heal him with a cure spell if it looks like it will help.

The Grim Avenger then shakes Pru's have as she introduced herself and and what the doomsayer said.

Michael, Akir, and Trayvin move towards the limping man. When they arrive, the man looks in worse shape than he had appeared, and you’re not really sure how he is still moving. He is covered with dirt and blood and one leg’s knee actually appears to be bent at a strange angle. When you arrive, the collapses on the ground, spitting out blood. He says, “The Fist east of town – we were destroyed. The avalanche and earthquake was too much. Everyone dead…”

Zane, Pru, Bosk, Sigvar, Anna, and Nikolai head over to the old man. Nikolai checks out the vital signs and then Bosks casts a heal spell. The man’s lips are moving before his eyes open and you can hear him whisper, “Doom.” His eyes flutter open and he takes in the crowd gathered around him. He looks scared, but does not say anything.

There's been a man standing outside the Citadel every day since you left, setting up a bonfire at dusk and shouting for all to hear about dark days and the end of the world.

"Well, we don't know the exact message he was preaching. All we know is that he'd been outside the Citadel since we left on our latest mission. He'd set up a bonfire at dusk and start shouting for all to hear about dark days and the end of the world.

We were headed out to hear his message when the earth started shaking, the wind picked up mighty furiously, the crack appeared and the elementals started attacking. As bad as all that was, it didn't end up to be the end of the world. Simply defeating a trio of earth elementals does not seem a heroic deed worthy of saving the entire world from destruction,"
Nikolai shrugs.

"It would seem that if the end was really here, there wouldn't be anything anyone, hero or peasant, could do to stop it. Just saying."

"That's just the thinking that will allow the Wold to end, Our group The Iron Dragons, just before our running around because we were needed, demolished a Death Cult, of an Ancient God trying to reassert itself. I don't know about your group in the Mailed Fist, but we will do anything, including sacrificing our own lives to stop that from happening. Or at least I'm willing to lay down my life if needed.
Our team, is currently broken into two person reaction groups, helping and learning. Or at least trying to learn, as well as hoping to show those we've been helping out just how far they can go to help the Wold in general.
No, those Elementals were not the end of the Wold, but with everything happening all over the Wold, our group scattered about helping out, I think they were just part of the over all. Because we as a group were just about to go visit a God to find out what he does and doesn't know about the ancient god who I believe is behind all of everything that is going on.
Everyone needing our help right now, is a great way to keep us distracted from what were about to do.
So, do you still the Elementals might not be the end of the Wold?"

It's obvious that Zane is irritated about that last comment, those that have met him at the Ghost, know he doesn't lose his calm very often or easily.....

Akir isn't sure where they are most useful. Should they head east? If they do and the people there are already dead, the trip was for nothing. If they wait around here, they might help some immediate suffering, but that was all.

He aids Michael in the responder care for the injured soldier, then joins the main group and Nikolai on the tail end of their conversation.

He briefly salutes his thumb as he interrupts.

"Nikolai, quick update."

Akir then relates the tale from the injured man, about the group to the east being decimated.

"I know the Knight-Captain left you to advise and inform the Dragon Consortium.. ah.. representatives, but if there's nothing left to be shared we have a decision to make. Do we stay here and help in the immediate? Or do we inform our Commander that we have received word of a new situation, and that we are riding out to deal with it? Akir shifts uncomfortably in the presence of the Dragons. While Nikolai considers his options, he takes a moment to thank them.

"Your healing and aid were most appreciated. Before you appeared Zane, my only real option was to delay the enemy for Pru to fall back enough to freely turn her spells on the elementals. Thanks to you, a delaying rear-guard was able to turn into a full counter attack."

He stretches his sore arms and legs.

"And thanks to Bosk, my injuries were reduced to cuts and bruises, so I won't have to send Prudence any medical bills for damages sustained while acting on her behalf."

Akir glances at Prudence, curious how she handled jokes aimed at her expense. For him, everything was a chance to learn and observe, even playful banter.

The old man shakes his head as Sigvar questions him. Anna peppers him with questions as well. Other conversations happen around the man and the group. A few citizens wander by, one still looking dazed from the recent events. Behind the group, one citizen has already taken to sorting through the debris that was once a house.

The man sits up and looks around at the questions. He tries to speak, but coughs as he opens his mouth. He mumbles, “The dreams… oh, the dreams…” He looks up at Sigvar and says, “The dreams told me about the coming doom.” He gestures over towards the massive crack in the ground and continues, “The dreams were right! Look at the destruction! The end of the Wold is here!”

Michael works to help the injured man with Akir. When they approach the citadel, Akir reports to Nikolai and asks for further orders. Commander Palence can be heard yelling from inside the citadel.

Nikolai pretends not to notice Zane's irritation, mainly because he didn't care if he was irritated nor not. He replies in an even tone as if this just was another day's work.

"Look, so you have insider information about some big thing going on. We didn't. All we had was half an hour of hearing this guy say doom was near. So we are to take every odd ball doomsayer at his word and go about as if it is our last days to live? Hey, we took action against foes that were intent on destroying this town and the last remaining Mailed Fist Citadel and were prepared to die doing just that. So get off your high horse about your Self Sacrifice and Greater Good pomposity. Each one does what he can where he is. I died defending the honor of the Mailed Fist and our group saved this area from a major civil war. So you've done and died heroicly as well. Don't jump all over us if we've not treated this as important as you'd like us to.

As for the elementals, they eventually would have been killed and the town and Citadel rebuilt. This crevice serves as a huge barrier along this side of the Citadel adding to it's protection and with some magic of our own we would either fill it in or incorporate it into our town. Good place to start a mining operation. You never know. Great tourist attraction. We can put cables across it and sell tickets to those brave souls that like the thrill of swinging over deep chasms or testing their climbing skills."


Nikolai gives the old man some water from his canteen then asks "Was there anyone in your dreams or was it just a voice? Did your dreams say you'd survive the End of the Wold? You are alive so far so the end isn't here yet, right? Is an earthquake and a large crevice the extent of the dreams or was your dreams so generic as not say how the end was going to come? Think hard. The dreams were sent to you for a reason. Warning us that the end is near does nothing to tell us which god to plead to in order to repent or follow or whatever."

The End of the Wold? Trayvin wasn't sure. There was a lot of damage from the storm and Earthquake, but bad storms don't mean and end to everything. Trayvin tries to put it all together and see what it might mean but he is distracted by the noise coming from the Citadel. Or what was left of it anyway.

"Come on, the Commander is yelling about something, let's go and make sure she is ok."

As he passes by, it seems like the Iron Dragons may be getting ready to depart. Trayvin thanks them both for their assistance. "You can count on the Fist to do our part to help protect the people of the Wold."

Anna says, "Well it was the dreams that warned him? Interesting. I must admit my Lady did come to me in my dreams once upon a time a while ago. I imagine once one becomes a member of a Dragon group and a hero at large of the Wold that the end of the Wold is just part of the package. Didn't you say that there were some bizarre dream activities going on in Hook City? Could this doomsayer be plugged in to whatever is going on over there? I mean I don't think anyone is suggesting giving up in the face of what is prophesied Doom. If I am familiar with the history of the Wold the heroes of the Wold at one point purposely became dead or undead in order to stand up to Marteus. I would have to imagine being around then would have seen things looking pretty grim but what else can one do but keep keeping on? To that end I don't think anyone is suggesting giving in even in the face of Doom"

She sings,

Bosk shakes everyone's hand. It was a pleasure fighting along side the first today. Your unit is well trained and very brave. There can be no denying that a tactical retreat is often the best course of action.

As for talking with the gods, we have met several gods and immortal powers. Gargul himself showed up at a bar and bought us a beer...and I do have a special connection to him. You may have noticed my shadow is missing. Gargul himself hung it in his throne room, and I have been there several times. I would never presume to demand an audience with him, but he and Gimp know when it is necessary.

As for the other God's, if you follow them they will usually respond to a commune spell if you are seeking guidance.

With that, we must be going. There are other areas of the Wold that we must check in with. If the doomsayer had any useful information please have your leaders send it to the dragons. And if the rest of the World is fighting as hard as you are, whatever is behind this will be finding themselves meeting much more resistance than I am sure they planned for.


With that Bosk says his goodbyes.

Michael is caught by the strangeness of the Minotaur with no shadow. his name is Bosk. hmmm...when he shakes his hand he holds the grip a bit longer than is perfunctory and stares hard at the big guy. I"m Michael...Michael Wittman....it's a pleasure to meet you Bosk. I would be honored if you would visit us again under more...auspicious circumstances...I'd like to hear your stories, buy you a beer at the last assignment and just generally get to know you. .

when they Dragon agents are gone. Michael gets back to work. He wonders what sacrifices his service will make of him. sure death. but to become so alien...He has a great deal of respect for someone who would give up so much of themselves for the greater good.

The conversation between the Iron Dragons and the Agents continues. Nikolai is clearly angry. Bosk and Zane say their peace and head off, back to the teleportation circle at the edge of town. The circle disappears as soon as they step into it. The Iron Dragons are gone from the company of the Agents of the Fist.

The old man takes the water and gulps it down. He gasps and says, “It was more than one voice. It was usually a woman’s voice. She sounded beautiful and terrifying at the same time. There were visions of death, fire, earthquakes, tornadoes, tidal waves, and death all around. It was horrible!” His body shakes and he sips the water again, his eyes unfocused as if lost in thought.

Commander Palence yells from inside the citadel, “I need someone to check on the exterior guards! I sent teams east and west of town to watch for trouble. They haven’t reported in!”

The old man's description wasn't much help. Why would a god advertise their doom with no purpose in mind? If you are going to destroy the Wold, why advertise it and give it's denizens a chance to fight back?

"Well, Zane and Bosk, your help is appreciated. At least from this area, the being responsible has a female voice. If that helps any. If some god is trying to destroy the Wold, this wasn't it. If anything, it was a distraction to your group to keep you away from the real thing. Is the whole Dragon Consortium involved or just your group?

Sigvar heads in and tells Commander Palence the fate of the eastern group. She appears quite upset: "Why? Why is this happening? I have soldiers running away, the ground exploding, wizards attacking me, and more just dying? This is unbelievable." She looks up at Sigvar and yells, "Get Nikolai and check out the team that was to the west, quickly!"

The group trods off to the west, down the road from the citadel. The area seems very quiet after the blistering winds. There is debris all around and many buildings have cracks and boards missing. There a bits of wood and other debris piled up where the wind blew them against normal wind breaks: hills, depressions, and buildings. There are few people here, a couple just wandering through the ruins of their house. Fences are gone and livestock appears to be missing.

As you reach the edge of the settled area, you see a group approaching you. It looks the right size to be a Fist team. You also spot weapons, including a pole arm and a very large longbow. The group is a varying sizes from tall human to halfling. They are hard to identify, as they are all covered in dirt and grime. They trudge down the road towards you, eyes on the ground.

Pru's heart aches for the simple people whose lives have been uprooted by this disaster. But there's little she can do for them now.

"Help each other," she says, cringing inwardly at how feeble and inadequate that sounds. "Go to the Citadel if you need shelter." She knows full well they will not--not with livestock missing--but she has to remind them that it's an option.

"We're on an assignment," she adds, "but maybe on the way back...."

When she sees the other group approaching, she is on alert. Yes, they look like the western Fist returning, but appearances can be deceiving and at this point nothing would surprise her.

Nikolai whispers, "Be on the alert. Look for uniforms, insignias, and such," knowing his Fist would do that anyway.

Nikolai looks for those things, the uniform, including boots, belts, anything that may not be covered in mud.

He calls out to the alleged Fist team, "ATTENTION! FALL IN! PRESENT ARMS! HEAD UP! CHEST OUT! REPORT!" and watches how they react. As members that trained under any of the groups, the training was standard and easy to recognize.

He concentrates on the group, detecting evil as his eye wanders over their uniforms. He knows how battered his fistmates look, and they battled elementals, how do these soldiers look?

The Agents take up positions and prepare for trickery. As Nikolai calls out, he recognizes the skill of the soldiers as they ignore him, but a larger man in the front holds his hand up to stay his own soldier's arms. He calls out to Nikolai, "Yertalan's Fist, reporting back. We were out to the west, holding the citadel."

He pauses and starts walking forward, his team in tow, as he continues, "It was rough out there. Winds and water all over the place. When the ground started shaking, a group of bandits decided they wanted to come to the citadel through us. We held them back, but there were avalanches and rain like we've never seen. The road west is blocked now to all but the most hardy traveler, so we figured we could do more good back here." He looks up, "Are things as bad here as well?"

Looking over the group, it is clear they are Agents as well. There is the occasional glint of a badge and they just look like experienced soldiers who are accustomed to working together.

Anna says, "We were pretty much dealing with the earthquake and the storm. A section of the outer wall of the citadel collapsed and we got into a battle with some earth elementals. We even met some of the Iron Dragons but in the wake of all that excitement we were ordered to check on your patrol out West as those on the East side suffered heavy casualties."

"It has been rough for everyone but the Citadel has held. Your post, though, is still West. However, if you have injuries we can attend to them and get you cleaned up. The road still needs to be watched. We would help you but we are circling the whole Citadel looking for gaps. Seeing that your Fist is intact, the Commander needs you back at your post," Nikolai says in an authoritarian tone.

OOC: as an aside, I've been thinking of taking the Leadership feat for situations just like this but only if it would help. Otherwise it would be a waste.

Nikolai asks Pru if she could use her magic to remove the mud and dirt from them as a moral booster. With that and some healing from Trayvin he expect them to return to their duties. If they don't, he won't stop them put warn them they'll go on Report.

We need you to keep watch for a bit, but we'll get you some relief as soon as we get back to the Citadel. detail a group of men to take the wounded in and bring back some chow. but keep a group up on watch, we don't know if this is over or not

Their leader bristles when Nikolai tells him what he's supposed to do. When the group is cleaned up by magic, he nods and says, "Well then, we can head back there, but the road's gone. No one is coming in that way. If you can, report in that we're not needed out here and can help out where else we're needed." With that he turns and heads back with his fist towards the west.

One of the other adds, "The bandit team was around 20. None survived."

Nikolai wanted to make the circuit but they were only asked to check out the west and report back. On the one hand he felt for that Fist that he sent back, but on the other hand, just because the road was impassible didn't mean nothing could come that way. Besides, if Commander Palance wants the Fist back, she can send for it.

"Very well, lets go back and report what we've found and have a relief fist sent to relieve the western fist."
